Fine dining restaurant
Located above the harbor in Portree, Scorrybreac Restaurant takes its name from the dark-stone cliffs below. The restaurant prides itself on offering thoughtful seasonal cuisine that heavily features local produce from the island. With distant mountain views and a simple yet elegant decor, this establishment showcases Scottish fine dining at its best.
I went to scorrybreac for a slightly odd special occasion as I was celebrating my recent redundancy. It was a superb place to do so. Although it was busy, I was very well looked after by all the staff, and ended up chatting to the chef when I was the last to leave. I had the tasting menu with wine matching which was a superb choice. The whisky selection is particularly interesting with a lot of niche (and non-Scottish!) choices. I loved it, and can’t wait to go again. Also: the upstairs bar is a superb spot and opens at 4pm with a beautiful view over Portree harbour.

We’d been looking forward to trying here for a while, but left disappointed in all honestly. The service was slow - we had an email prior to arrival saying the table had to be returned within 2 hours and after 1 hour we’d had the “first course” which was essentially an amuse bouche. I had to ask about the matching wine package as the first course arrived. The staff didn’t know what wine it was when asked (just a generic memorised description) & they had to ask a colleague what dish it paired with. The food was good but far too small - thank god for the bread that arrived mid-course. For fine dining, I’d expect better service and a higher quality overall.
Leighanne L — Google review
This fine dining restaurant is situated on the main road overlooking Loch Portree. All 8 dishes of the set degustation menu were expertly prepared which showcased the chef's skill, creativity, and culinary expertise. Staff were lovely, decor and very nice too. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Worth a visit. 👍👍👍
D F — Google review
We had the 8(or was it 7?) course tasting menu, 2 cocktails and a glass of wine and it was just under $400 for the two of us. Of course the exchange rate matters but for £95 PP and a service charge added for the menu itself its a meal you have for a special occasion. That said each course was beautifully presented and very tasty. The milk bread and whipped butter in between helped satiate any hunger half way through the meal but after the 8 courses we were plenty full. Staff are very nice and knowledgeable about the food, if you don’t get a front table you are in the back or a corner and there really isn’t a view or any other ambience. It was also a cold night out (just after Storm Amy) so it was very warm and toasty for us inside with each table filled and the kitchen right there. A bit too hot for our liking… but we were happy we experience this restaurant especially since the Munro family has long time ties/history to the area (and other establishments in Portree… Birch perhaps) as well.
Gemini T — Google review
Phenomenal vibe, service, and very creative food. There’s no menu - it’s just a tasting menu. Only complaint is I wish portion sizes were a little bigger - one bite each and a small main in the cod
Mak K — Google review
Delicious food - probably the best food you will get on Skye. Very nice for a special occasion. However they wont do anything “special”. Some things to consider- The restaurant is in an old living room in a terrace house. Some tables have a view of the harbour but others just stuck in a corner. Slightly on the expensive side in comparison to other tasting menus. as it is only a set menu you have to pay for the whole thing rather than just trying a main for example.
Fiona G — Google review
So unbelievably delicious and worth every penny - also such incredible service! We had 2 main waitresses who were both really wonderful! It’s going to be impossible to top this dinner!
Tanen C — Google review
Tasting menu (£99.50): Pacific oyster, smoked rhubarb vinaigrette - Good. Large and fresh with mineral taste. Halibut tartare, cucumber, sea plantain, larch - Excellent. Fresh and refreshing. Flashadder lamb with shallot, blue corn tortilla, nasturtium - Good. Barbecue scallop with foraged pesto, sea herbs, smoked corral - Outstanding. Fresh and large. The pesto, herbal sauce went well with it. Treacle soda bread, buerre noisette - Excellent. It had a cake-like texture. Mangalica pork with celeriac, white miso, nettle - Excellent. Both the loin and the belly were marbled and tender. The sweet sauce went well with it. Rhubarb with fresh crowdie sorbet, rose - Excellent combination of cheese flavour with sharper rhubarb. Connage yoghurt with orange blossom, Scots pine - Fine. Rather breakfast-like. Good service.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurant
Sea Breezes is a renowned seafood restaurant located in a 19th-century quayside building near Portree Harbour on the Isle of Skye. The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere and an award-winning chef who prepares dishes using local langoustines, salmon, hand-dived scallops, and other fresh produce from Skye. The menu showcases the best of Scottish seafood and is known for its delicious offerings.
We had the pleasure of dining here on two separate evenings. The service was outstanding – attentive, warm, and highly professional, leaving nothing to be desired. The food was fresh and exceptionally tasty, with every dish clearly prepared with care and quality ingredients. We highly recommend making a reservation in advance, as the restaurant is understandably popular.
Daniel V — Google review
The food here is good, we ordered a number of things as a large group. Some things were better than others. The sticky toffee pudding was great. The staff was friendly. I wouldn’t say it was worth the price however which was very high, else it would have gotten 4 stars.
R R — Google review
We visited this restaurant with my family in August and were absolutely delighted with both the food and the service. Even though we hadn’t booked a table in advance, the staff kindly offered us one at 9:15 pm (despite Google Maps saying they closed at 9). We had to wait a few hours, but it was definitely worth it. We ordered the Steamed Mussels, the soup of the day (pumpkin curry soup), and the Treacle & Whiskey Cured Salmon as starters, followed by the Pan Roasted Sea Trout for the main course. Every single dish was outstanding. These were the best mussels I have ever had in my life: everything was incredibly fresh and absolutely worth the price. Even after two courses, we couldn’t resist trying the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which turned out to be just as delicious. What truly made the evening unforgettable, though, was the service. The lovely and friendly Polish couple who looked after us were the heart and soul of this place. Chatting with them made the experience so special, and without them, the evening wouldn’t have felt as magical. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. You won’t regret it! We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in Portree.

Good place at the pier, well located. The food was really good, but “gourmet style” which is normally a small portion for a big price, but the quality was good. Short menu but all good I believe. The staff were good and efficient. Good place for a stop in Portree.
Arsenio F — Google review
Absolutely delicious! Definitely need a reservation, and it's a little unfortunate that you are only able to do that over the phone (since it was an international call for us) but it's worth it! The food was delicious, the location is fun and the staff is very friendly!

Best meal in Portree. Delicious seafood and friendliest service. We walked in without a booking and they accommodated us. Food was excellent and thought it was fairly priced for the quality. Would recommend to any of my friends visiting

The most amazing fresh and tasteful food. Service was friendly professional and very helpful. I could not recommend highly enough popping in for a bite to eat. It will not disappoint

Upscale seafood restaurant right on the harbor, serving delicious locally sourced cuisine. Make sure to call well ahead to make a reservation. Cured salmon was standout, as were the scallops.

Restaurant
Dulse & Brose is a stylish brasserie located in the heart of Portree, Isle of Skye. The restaurant offers elevated Scottish comfort food and drinks in a cottage-style building with rustic bistro interiors. The young chef, a graduate of Skye's renowned restaurant, The Three Chimneys, showcases exceptional cooking using locally sourced ingredients such as west-coast fish, mussels with chili and basil, and Skye mutton with harissa, apricot, and coriander.
Had fantastic dinner. From starter to desert everything was delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Restaurant itself was nicely decorated. Reservation well in advance is recommended.
Dominic — Google review
Overall good experience. The staff were really lovely, attentive & were helpful in changing our booking (there was a family health emergency so we were really delayed making it to Skye). Nice atmosphere. Our starters & mains were good but found dessert was quite basic. Also, the Caramelised onion soup for starter was nothing special. I would give 4 star over 5 as I think for what it is, it is overpriced. £21 for Fish & Chips, £29 for duck. Which is similar, if not higher to price points of The Ivy Restaurants in London. The banana crumble was good, however, small for £9 a portion. I found the Sticky Toffee a bit dry/plain and the ice cream quite basic (which the menu states comes as 3 scoops, so you end up paying £7.50 for ice cream). For parking, there is limited space directly outside the hotel/restaurant, so I would factor in time to find a parking spot when arriving.
Mi-Chu K — Google review
Food was really tasty and service was quick, would have been nice if there wasn’t only one veggie main option. Found the interior of the restaurant to be a bit off though as it was very cold, and had overly bright overhead lighting.
B W — Google review
Really disappointing experience. I'd booked this for our final night in Skye, hoping for a dining experience that matched the prices. Service was scant. We saw other tables receive the kind of service I'd expect, with detailed explanation of food, careful attention and engagement. We were sat in a dark corner, given menus and left to our own devices. There was no interaction, no sense that we were anything other than three customers to be processed. We ordered wine which wasn't brought until we asked for it a second time, and well after our main courses arrived. I had to ask for cutlery (no hardship, but not what I'd expect in a restaurant that styles itself as offering "an unforgettable dining experience"). There was a definite sense that the team needed much more support and training to be able to do their jobs. We were compensated for the delayed wine, which was appreciated - but again we had to remind the team that this had been offered. There was no apology from any of the waiting staff, or the restaurant manager - just the bar manager who was exceptionally busy and the only member of the team who had any sense of how to make customers feel welcome. Dulse and Brose need to either improve service or offer a less elevated menu - the prices imply a much better experience than is given. We stayed only because I know restaurants in Portree are hopelessly oversubscribed, but honestly I wish we'd grabbed fish and chips and eaten them on the harbour wall.
Kathryn A — Google review
Fantastic service and food. We popped in for a light dinner and some drinks. Servers and hosts were all very friendly. Food was very tasty too. The soup of the day was fantastic and I wish I could remember what it was because they need to make that soup a regular dish! Will be back next time we're in Portree.
Jason G — Google review
Dulse & Brose exceeded expectations! The cozy atmosphere and warm service made for a lovely evening. The lamb was a true standout—perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with rich flavor. A must-try for a taste of authentic, top-tier Scottish cuisine.
William F — Google review
Delicious food served in a beautiful restaurant. I loved every bite of the food we had. They change their menu season wise, so do look out for that. We were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional hospitality. Don’t miss it.
Maharshi V — Google review
Far too overpriced for the quality of the food and service of the waitstaff. I had written a super long review detailing every criticism with my dining experience at Dulse and Brose, but it comes down to overpriced food, a kitchen staff that doesn’t really know how to manage the menu and servers who weren’t rude but were not well trained for a dining experience this expensive. For those interested, kitchen was out of two mains - their seafood and beef. We opted for the salmon trio, venison and butternut squash risotto. The portions were too small for £30-40pp not including wine. Diners behind us found a long hair in their food. My husband’s wine glass had lipstick smudges all around the edges. There is just a lack of attention to detail here, both in service and in the food. Would not recommend.

The Old School Restaurant is a charming family-owned establishment located in a former village schoolhouse, offering a delightful experience of Modern Scottish cuisine. Situated in Dunvegan, Isle of Skye, the restaurant provides an elegant yet cozy atmosphere with friendly service. The menu features locally sourced ingredients such as venison, shellfish, and foraged vegetables prepared skillfully into delectable dishes.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner while visiting Skye. The staff was all very friendly, the food was delicious. My husband had the liver pate to start and Fish and Chips. I had the trio of fish and the special scallops. Very delicious and enjoyable. Make sure to book a table in advance as the place was busy and many people had no table.
Cayman S — Google review
The venison was delicious and scallops were sumptuous. However, while the staff were friendly and courteous, they could have been more attentive and we had to ask for our first drinks. Food was delivered promptly which was great. The apple crumble promised much but sadly was disappointingly bland - great vanilla custard, though!

A Hidden Gem, Genuine Care and Exceptional Food at The Old School It’s rare to find truly great food in the UK, but we can say with complete honesty that we were blown away by The Old School Restaurant on the Isle of Skye. My partner and I aren’t fussy eaters, but we do have high standards, and this place exceeded them in every way. We’re from England and have dined all over, across England, Scotland, Wales, and abroad, yet this meal truly stood out as something special, and is on our list of one of the more memorable meal experiences. We hadn’t set any expectations before visiting, as we came in without a booking, just looking for a spontaneous evening meal out before leaving the Isle of Skye. The presentation of the food was elegant, the flavours perfectly balanced, and you could truly taste the thought behind each element of the meal. From the moment our meals arrived, it was clear how much care and pride goes into the food here. The presentation was beautiful, the portions generous, and the balance of flavours exceptional. I usually avoid chicken when dining out after too many dry, overcooked versions elsewhere, but this was perfect. The chicken was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, wrapped in bacon that added a gentle smokiness without being greasy or heavy. The gravy was rich and silky tying the flavours together beautifully. The roast vegetables and potatoes were golden, crisp-edged. Everything was full of flavour, and every part of the dish complemented the other with great execution of taste and balance. My partner’s slow-cooked beef was equally outstanding, melt-in-the-mouth soft and full of depth flavour, paired perfectly with smooth mash and a hint of sweetness from the puréed vegetables. Even the smaller details spoke volumes, from the warm, freshly baked bread and butter served with the starter soup, to the attentive yet unpretentious service. Everything felt genuine, cared for, and thoughtfully done. We visited in October 2023, yet we still talk about this meal as one of the best we’ve had. The Old School truly embodies what dining should be, honest, heartfelt, and full of pride in what they do. We sincerely hope they continue with the same passion and standard, because we can’t wait to return one day and relive that wonderful experience.
Suzie G — Google review
100% recommend! The food was amazing. Generous portions and so freshly prepared. I had the mussels with chips and my partner had the beef cheek. Followed by an incredible chocolate mousse and the biggest slab of sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever seen. The service was faultless too and the staff were so friendly. An absolute gem of a place! Make sure you book ahead as they get busy.
Sophie C — Google review
Stopped in after a day of hiking and sightseeing on Skye. Unfortunately, we were unlucky, and there were no tables available when we stepped in (the people ahead of us got the last table, then another couple got in after us and got in after a cancelation). We had already ordered takeout at that point, which was done really quickly. The takeout menu is small, maybe 4 or 5 mains, only 1 of them vegetarian (Indian curry). I got the fish and chips, which came with a big piece of fish that barely fit inside the container on top of plenty of chips. We had each ordered a beverage to have while we waited, but the food came out so fast we hadn't finished the drinks. The fish was crispy, flaky and had decent chips. They had self serve condiments (ketchup, brown sauce, tartar sauce, vinegar) and cutlery by the entrance. My vegetarian friend enjoyed the butternut squash curry and rice, despite not being a huge fan of Indian food, but it upset her stomach later. More offerings for takeout would be ideal. Didn't think I would need a reservation on a Monday, but I did not know when we would make it to the restaurant.
Alison K — Google review
Stellar food - the mussels are fresh, the slow cooked beef cheek and lamb ragu are fork tender and the portions are generous. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for. So good I went there 3 times during my stay in Skye.
Caleb L — Google review
We had a fantastic dinner. The soup was great. We had to get an additional order because we enjoyed it so much. We had 4 different entrees, and each was fantastic. We also had 4 different deserts, each was delicious with the sticky toffee being the winner. All together, we would highly recommend Old School Restaurants. It has been a highlight for food as we traveled all over Scotland.

I wanted to love this place so badly! Our server, Clarice, was a 10! Absolute perfection. Informed. Knowledgeable. Friendly. Enthusiastic. They should be in charge of the whole restaurant. The issue was entirely with the kitchen and their utter lack of knowledge regarding the ingredients in the food they had prepared. One member of our party was a vegetarian who also had a nut allergy. He tried to order the veggie burger, but nobody on the kitchen crew had any idea if the veggie burger patties they prepared had any nuts in them. We were told the chef that prepared those patties had left earlier so there was no way to guarantee it was nut free. Okay.. so he ordered the Lentil Patties instead. Same thing. No one in the kitchen knew if nuts were included that day. Seriously? So, he tried to order a third time. This time he asked for the cauliflower tacos. Poor Clarice had to come back once again and tell us they were not available. At this point, we wanted to leave but because there was a music festival in town, every restaurant was slammed.. so he tried a FOURTH order.. he settled for the nachos. They arrived and were absolute mediocrity. My beef burger had more cheese on it than his order of nachos. It was really upsetting, after everything! And sooo irresponsible. Is there not a standard recipe used when preparing menu items? Do the chefs have total freedom to prepare whatever they want, HOWEVER they want, each and every day? If only one person on staff is informed on what items include allergens and that person leaves early, how can this cafe ever guarantee their food is safe to eat for anyone? If they want to give their chef creative liberties each day, fine. But set the standard on certain items, vegetarian and not, to have never contain major allergens. Get the chef’s phone number so you can call and ASK if they are not present. OR, mind blowing concept apparently, stick to one recipe. OR, have the chef write down the ingredients used in the food they made for that day. It was absolutely ridiculous. Do not recommend. Clarice, however, was perfection.

A wonderful cafe with a cozy atmosphere with relaxing and chill vibes and a nice place to read a great novel or write a great story. The staff here are very friendly here and even made a couple of recommendations when we didn’t know what to get. The food here is pretty good especially the breakfast which is the speciality that they put most effort into. The Korean chicken with rice is pretty tasty too. The cheese used for the nachos is really good.

Red Skye Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in a repurposed 1876 schoolhouse, offering seasonal Scottish cuisine with a focus on seafood and traditional options like Cullen skink and mussels. The restaurant also serves venison, pork, beef, and red lentil burgers. With friendly staff and amazing food, it's recommended to make reservations due to its popularity. The picturesque setting provides stunning views while enjoying wine, gin, or whisky.
Really wanted to recommend this lovely restaurant and the wonderful service we experienced. Kind and friendly, the service was second to none, and the food was some of the best we experienced whilst eating out on Skye. We managed to get a walk in at 5pm for the a la carte menu, the blue cheese, spinach and walnut risotto was heaven! Interesting building with lots of fascinating details. Thank you all for a fabulous meal.

My partner and I came in a bit late today, and they were still happily serving food. We shared the Cullen skink, scallops, risotto, and chocolate fondant — everything was well-seasoned, generously portioned, and very reasonably priced. Everything was so perfectly cooked as well. The Skye Gold beer was smooth and soft in texture, a perfect pairing. Friendly and welcoming service throughout. Would 100% recommend!

Most delicious food we had during our Scotland trip so far. The salmon was perfect fried and the spinach and potatoes were amazing. The burger was also very juicy and tasty. The restaurant looks so inconspicuous but is definitely worth a visit.

What a lovely way to start discovering Skye… We had a top quality dinner, from the the oysters, the salmon and the garlic focaccia to the best burger so far in the UK!!! And a special award to our waitresses…you rock!
Christiane C — Google review
The food? The starters were absolutely delicious— my taste buds threw a party. The mains for the price the quality was expected of a medium entry restaurant, so it was disappointing. The wait time, however? Interstellar. I'm pretty sure we entered a new time zone between starters and mains. We had so much spare time, we ended up doing a deep dive into the restaurant's replies to bad reviews. Let me tell you, Gordon Ramsay wishes he had this level of sass. If you're hungry and patient — or just here for the drama — this place delivers on both counts. For context: it took about 30 minutes to get our starters then we waited almost an hour for our main. On the bright side, we now have a favorite soap opera and it’s in the review section. Save yourself some time and just go to the vastly superior restaurant The Sprig just a couple minutes down the road!
Amy S — Google review
The food here was great. Person who had salmon said it was the best salmon they had ever had in their life. My venison burger was quite good and those who had beef burgers also enjoyed theirs. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent. The price was very high (hence lost a star) and service was friendly.
R R — Google review
What a place!!! Would love it to stay a hidden gem but considering the few options on Skye, have to talk about it. Firstly the food...Had multiple items across 2 visits..Fav were the Risotto, the Gnocchi and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Each of these lip smacking and worth coming back multiple times. Service...Feel guilty to take away a star but definitely understaffed and time management was not the best on both occasions. However, do not let that deter you from visiting here. Have to visit. Warm and cosy ambience with some books and games for kids. Easily the best restaurant on the Isle of Skye and one of our top 5 restaurants across our 14 day holiday in London and Scotland.
Just J — Google review
Honestly the best restaurant we’ve been to in Scotland, or even the UK overall. We had the mini lobsters, oysters, salmon, and the lamb burger. My husband and I are from the US and South Korea, where fish restaurants are quite common and we both agreed that the salmon was the best we’ve ever had, hands down. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, we did have to wait a little while after the starter, but honestly, we didn’t mind. After tasting the mains, we completely understood — each plate was so thoughtful and full of care. I’m currently 7 months pregnant, and the staff (especially the lovely lady who looked after us) was incredibly attentive, making sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. Only downside? My pregnancy brain forgot to think straight, and I accidentally left my bag on the chair! 😭😂 We’re still trying to call the restaurant to pick it up, but it opens at 5pm — so yeah, don’t be like me and triple check your chair before you leave!

Coffee store
Cafe Sia & Siaway is a charming spot on the Isle of Skye, offering a delightful menu featuring wood-fired pizzas, bistro dishes, and traditional British breakfast options. The cafe takes pride in its artisanal coffee, which is roasted in-house using drum-fire methods. In addition to their exceptional coffee selection, they also serve locally roasted artisan teas and an array of freshly made pizzas from a Tuscan wood-fired oven.
These pizza's are amazing, cooked perfectly in a stone bake oven using locally sourced wood. The smell walking in is heavenly, watching the pizza being made was great, also just enough time to squeeze in a glass of delightful whiskey whilst the pizza cooks.

Sometimes, when one bites into a slice of pizza, one doesn’t merely taste cheese or sauce, one confronts the mysteries of existence itself. Your kind words reached us like a message slipped under the door of an unknown bureaucracy of flavor confirming that, perhaps, our humble oven does whisper truths in tomato and smoke. The crust, imperfect yet persistent; the cheese, molten yet merciful together they strive, as we all do, to make sense of this strange, delicious world. Thank you kindly from Australia, New Zealand and Germany.

Great food, including gluten free pizza! Which is not amazing but still good enough to enjoy. The staff is very friendly, with a good taste in music, which volume is not too loud. Great place if you need some comfort food and a happy stomach.

If you like meat, order the Deamhan pizza. And thank me later. I added feta & basil oil and it was next level. Easily the best pizza I’ve had outside of Italy. The special cocktail (Limoncello Sunrise) was lovely and really well priced. Service staff were super cool too, we really felt at home here. Don’t miss this place, the 4.3 rating is a lie!

Stoped at Gin Distillery located beside restaurant and popped in for quick bite. Pleasantly surprised by an outstanding meal all around. Great soup specials and wow. Loved the Pesto Ravioli on the special board. Five star meal in an unassuming road house.

I was expecting more based on the reviews. The pizza crust had a limp mealy texture and was a bit soggy, not the crisp chewy texture you want from wood fired. The sauce and toppings were good. The soup was pretty good, but overall it wasn’t worth it. The best I can say is that it came out really fast and the people were nice. We won’t be back.

Restaurant
The Isles Inn, located in a serene area of Somerled Square, is just a short distance from the bustling Shops, Harbour and Swimming Pool in Portree. This traditional pub offers simple yet comfortable rooms along with a restaurant, garden, and complimentary breakfast and WiFi. The inn's convenient location in the heart of the Isle of Skye makes it an excellent base for exploring not only Skye but also the neighboring islands such as Lewis and Harris.
This is a review of the pub: The catch of the day--sea bass on our day--was delicious and beautifully presented. Focus on their seafood offerings, which are lovely. Much of the rest of the menu is solid pub fare. Do have a look at the specials board and then look at what others have been served. "Salad" with their burgers refers to the lettuce IN the sandwich. They can get busy, so plan ahead. The servers are helpful and friendly. Good selection of local single-malts and beers.

Get to this place early if you’re expecting dinner. 1700 was perfect. Make sure to put your name on the list. We got a pint at the bar, sat and hung out for about 45 minutes until our table was ready. Service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious. My wife got the Chicken Schnitzel and I had the Steak Pie. Great vibes, highly recommend! BUT, like I mentioned, get there early as they don’t take reservations.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting Portree, and we found the meals to be very tasty. Service might have been a touch slow, but it was not a problem for us. Nice veg options for my wife.

We came for the food but stayed for the atmosphere. The first night we came, it was packed, but we sat and had a few drinks while we waited. The staff made us feel so comfortable and at ease. When we were sat, they seen to us promptly and politely. The food was great and ticked all the boxes for us. When my partner started to not feel well, they were considerate and accommodating. We promised to come back the next day for the dessert we didn't have. When we came back the next night, they remembered us and saw to us quickly, and the dessert was worth the wait! For anyone coming outside of Scotland, this is the place to get a feel for the best of our culture. We stayed for the live music and had a great last night in Skye. Thank you to the staff, we'll see you again.

Average food, below average service. Cosy bar well located in Portree. From when we were greeted at around 4pm the bar half was full, food served from 5pm in the restaurant half. The staff member who greeted us was very blunt and short. As was the service we experienced and witnessed from then until when we left. The venue should be grateful for a heavy footfall not make it seem that everyone that walked in was an inconvenience that they were busy. The receipt and card machine just put on the table no conversation or anything, haven't pressed 'no tip' as quickly as that ever. Little things go a long way.

Avoid We didn’t have much choices in this town as it is not very dog friendly (as dog unfriendly as the rest of Scotland to be fair) so this was one of the few places that we could go to as we were with our golden retriever. Anyway, we went to this pub and got on the waiting list. Once our time was to come to the table after 30-45 minutes waiting and been called by a very rude server (the lady in glasses and a piercing), we placed our order and didn’t get our food (or an update nor an apology) for 45 minutes. The food came to the table after we asked for it 30 minutes into the waiting. One of the dishes was of good quality but the fish and chips was the worse one I have ever had. Summary: terrible place, terrible service, terrible food. Avoid

We arrived to the pub later on a Wednesday evening. Everyone had us worried that we had no reservations. Well no problem here. We came in sat at the bar for a pint and for a short 25 minute wait and then enjoyed a gigantic Meat pie, way too big for my mom to finish and a burger with salad, which sometimes mean lettuce and tomato on the burger or it means a little side salad. The food was wonderful, the waiter was very nice.

Stayed here for three nights in a triple room which was very spacious and clean! There was a kettle, a very small mini fridge (fit about three small bottles of water) and some hot beverage options. The bathroom was quite large. Lots of issues with keeping the shower water hot and needing to flush the toilet twice to make sure it worked properly. We were on the third floor and there is no lift, which was fine for us, but may be an issue for people who have mobility issues. It was surprisingly quiet at night, even over the weekend. The staff were very friendly and we did eat one meal here which was delicious. It is directly across from the bus station and close to many restaurants and shops. There is a rather unfortunate smell of cat pee at the entrance to the stairs; unsure if it was the men’s washroom or the carpet on the stairs but it was very off putting. Overall it was a good experience and would stay again!

Seafood restaurant
Loch Bay Restaurant is a charming spot known for its unpretentious atmosphere and locally sourced seafood, particularly hand-dived scallops. Situated on the waterfront, this black-and-white restaurant is a favorite among Skye foodies and top chefs who come to unwind. Renowned chef Michael Smith prepares the freshly caught seafood with a focus on enhancing natural flavors rather than overwhelming them with sauces.
We are here with our pals and had the most amazing time. The food is truly delicious and most is landed like 20 metres from the kitchen. The wine matching was really good too with my pal coming across two wines which he’d not heard of before. We were lucky enough to be seated in a booth which really made it feel like a personal dining experience. Staff great and very knowledgeable. Expectations were high as (probably) the place to dine on Skye but this place is truly special.

An absolute gem of a place with just a couple of tables. Felt very warm and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed the adventure of going through all the beautifully cooked seafood. Was a shame I wasn't near this time and had to drive so could not enjoy the wine flights!

What an amazing experience! The staff were so welcoming to everyone who came! There are only a few tables and you NEED to make reservations well in advance- if you can, several days to weeks. Staff were so wonderful about explaining the intricacy of each dish and answering and further questions we had. We did not have a dish we didn’t enjoy. You aren’t rushed at all and can savor the meal and wine over several hours. Thanking the chef was also a treat!

We had a fantastic dinner experience at the restaurant. The staff was friendly, attentive, and an absolute delight. As for the food, it's hard to put into words just how amazing it was; the flavors were outstanding, and the seafood was incredibly fresh. What truly stood out was the laid-back atmosphere, making the evening even more enjoyable.

I had a wonderful dinner at Loch Bay. I emailed the restaurant for reservations and pre-paid for the meal using the link provided. The entire meal was seafood focused and featured things like oysters, scallops, langoustines, lobster, monkfish, and mussels. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. For dessert, we were able to choose between a warm almond tart with rhubarb and strawberry, blood orange sorbet, and lemon & ginger ice cream or a cheese plate. The warm almond tart was delicious! I would highly recommend making time to eat at Loch Bay Restaurant if you are visiting Isle of Skye.

In August I had the pleasure of going back to Lochbay again for the third time and if you are a seafood lover you won't be disappointed. Lochbay is about a local as it get can. Excellent local seafood paired with lovely and experienced staff who have all worked there since the beginning. The atmosphere is very cosy as the restaurant has only 18 seats. Yes you have to book in advance. A real hidden gem in the heart of the lovely little village Stein. Would return in a heartbeat and thanks so much for that memorable experience.

Outstanding. Remote location which is settled within a row of fisherman cottages. Cosy, romantic and professional. We arrived during the covid fallout. Only 2 staff - chef Michael Smith and front of house. Both looking after 4 tables. Everything was respectful, friendly and unpretentious. We were lucky to experience a seafood extravaganza of a tasting menu. As expected the ingredients and produce is fresh and matched with delightful wines. Chef treats you to a flavourable trip around Skye's best offerings from the sea. In particular the happiness of tasting the Langoustine bisque will stick in the memory. Then we were later spoiled with a half bay lobster with chanterelles. I understand the buzz surrounding the restaurant and it certainly backs this up. Enjoy.

We had the opportunity to taste these delights on our Isle of the Skye Tour with WOW Tours. The lunches were very tasty. 3 of my group selected the Vegan sandwiches and said they were the best they've ever had. Desserts included with the Vegan option were delicious chocolate cakes with Expresso cream frosting. I had the Mushroom Quiche that was delightful and it included a small side salad and 2 small cup cake Desserts that were delicious. I added a cheese and butter scone and fruit bar. Everything was scrumptious and gobbled up rather quickly. This have us the fuel to complete the 3 mile hike at the Fairy Pools. When we picked up our lunches on our tour route, the art gallery / bakery showcased some amazing local artwork.

Ordered through the tour company WOW and the online process was super easy. Great options and easy checkout. I was able to ask for no dairy and she was most definitely able to make adjustments. We picked up our lunch sacks and the orders were correct. The sandwich was delicious (gammon and chutney & the vegan with hummus). The added pastry was a surprise and much appreciated. Great value great meal and great experience.

We did a tour through WOW Scotland and had Lisa fix us lunch. It was amazing! I had the bacon and leek quiche and my friend had a pasta salad. The cookies were delicious and there was a Walnut Zucchini muffin that was the highlight of the lunch (for me). If you stop by, you have to see the art gallery. So many unique pieces to browse. I bought one to bring back home with me. I’ll definitely return when I come back to the Isle of Skye. ❤️ Thank you, Lisa, for your hospitality!

I ordered lunch during my tour of Skye (via WOW Scotland, also highly recommended) and was delighted with the quality of the ingredients, the preparation, and the gluten-free options! Liza was very kind and welcoming, and I was able to pick up a beautiful piece of vintage jewellery in the art gallery upstairs during our stop. A series of delightful surprises!

I was on a tour of the Isle of Skye through Wow Scotland. The tour company arranged for lunch to go. We individually ordered online, picked up the lunches on the way. I had the bacon & leek quiche, salad, a little cake. I also ordered an apple scone. Everything was fabulous! The quiche was delicious even cold! The scone only had butter (I didn’t order the extra jam) I didn’t need it. So good! Treat yourself and stop by. You won’t regret it!

We ordered a packed lunch from the Isle of Skye Baking Company and it was absolutely perfect—from the thoughtful presentation to the delicious, homemade flavors. Everything was clearly made and packed with care, down to the smallest detail. The gammon ham sandwich (slow-roasted for 10 hours!) on potato bread with apple relish was a standout—flavorful, fresh, and genuinely comforting. The snack box was a hit with my daughter: a generous mix of cheese, fresh fruit, ham, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, bread, and the perfect little slice of chocolate cake to end on a sweet note. This is clearly a small, heart-driven local business run by a lovely couple, and it shows.

We loved everything we got from the Isle of Skye Baking company. We stopped by while we were on a WOW tour of the Isle of Skye from Inverness (also wonderful) and picked up takeaway lunches. We ordered ahead of time and had several great options. We had the spicy sweet potato stuffed bread and the ham pizza. Both were delicious! Not pictured because we ate them too fast to stop and take a photo. Also included in our meals were shortbread cookies, a zucchini cake, and a chocolate espresso cake. We loved everything we had. We also added on a lemon drizzle cake which we saved for our train ride back to Edinburgh, and even a day later it was incredible. If you have a chance to stop by for some pastries, for lunch, or to look at the lovely art gallery that’s connected, we would highly recommend it! We also purchased some art from the gallery that was hand made by a local artist, they have some beautiful pieces mostly depicting the Isle of Skye.

Dunvegan Castle & Gardens is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and offers tours, beautiful gardens, and boat trips to a seal colony. Nearby dining options include The Old School Restaurant and Dunvegan Bar & Restaurant. The castle has a rich history as the ancestral home of the MacLeod clan. Visitors can explore the reconstructed mock-up of an earlier Keep and Hall blockhouse, while also enjoying proximity to other attractions such as St Andrews Aquarium and West Sands beach.
We spent all day here! It was great! We started off with the seals boat tour - saw 9 in total plus a seagull chick. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Then had a picnic in the gardens which were so peaceful, beautiful and well maintained. Then we finished in the castle. The rooms are fabulous. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, worth the £17.50 for the castle and gardens and the £13.50 for the seals! Not good for mobility though.
Amie D — Google review
A nice castle and grounds. Lovely waterfalls, flowers and scenery. The castle itself was nice but I've been to better. All the staff were friendly and provided some extra information when asked. Also saw a couple of seals not far from the castle walls. A short video at the end of the tour also gives some history to the castle, told by the current owner. Not suitable for those using wheelchairs as a lot of the paths in the gardens were either quite narrow or very bumpy. Inside the castle, it being from the middle ages, had a lot of stairs and no lift (pretty sure this would be mentioned on the official website). There is, of course, a gift shop, in fact two, one inside the castle and one outside along with a cafe. Prices are as expected in these kinds of places.
Chris M — Google review
I was there on a bit of a rainy day, do I have not seen much of the gardens. What I saw was nice and well kept. The castle tour itself is small, but nice and everything is lovingly arranged. The absolute highlight was the seal tour! When I saw the size of the boats, I second guessed my decision, but it turned out amazing! We where lucky that a lot of seals where out and we got really close, while respectfully keeping our distance. The seals did not seem to bother. The staff throughout was really friendly and helpful. The combo ticket garden & castle might be a bit expensive with 17£ (the seal tour is extra) but I still enjoyed it very much
Silke K — Google review
All the staff we encountered were friendly and polite. The castle itself is great - a few surprises on the way round. The exhibits are interesting and varied. I was with my father who needs a wheelchair for walking long distances. The staff at the payment counter and at the entrance to the castle were courteous and thoughtful. The website is also open and honest about its accessibility. An excellent visit.

A great day out, lovely to go inside the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland. Some wonderful art and artifacts on display. Wouldn't fancy a spell in the dungeon. A nice welcome from one of the guides. The views from the castle were amazing. We spent a couple of hours wandering around the beautiful gardens, so well laid out, a beautiful waterfall, and the giant 2.7 tonne pebble you can spin around. The trees 🌳 and plants were spectacular. We had a delicious late lunch in the café, good toilet facilities in the car park. Large car park, busy because it was a hot sunny day. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Friendly welcoming staff. Beautifully kept castle and garden grounds. Garden feature of waterful is beautifully landscaped. The Walled garden with vegetable patch glasshouse with exotic plants was pretty. They have boat tours to see the seals dependent on weather. The Food at the cafe was really tasty. Husband had brie and bacon panini and I had a very nice quiche.
Ann-Marie T — Google review
Great way to spend a day with children. The castle has keys hidden in every room for kids to find, and they get a prize at the end if they find them! Great way to keep them interested. The outdoor play area is wonderful. There’s even a seal boat and a hike that leads you to a tree tunnel.

What a great place to eat! They do not take reservations, first come first serve, which is so nice. Food was good, service was great, the atmosphere was clean and cozy. Highly recommend. I had the chicken Caesar salad, with a side of chips & gravy. My friend had the cheese and chutney board.

We came out of desperation because all the other places on easter Saturday in Portree were booked out. Turned out to be a decent spot, there are quite bright tables in front of the restaurant or booth-like tables at back, where we were sitting. They were a bit darker tho. The service was fast and friendly. The food was also decent, we recommend the mussels (with a positively surprising sauce) and the fish soup - it was great. Other than that fish and chips and salads were good. We havent tried any cocktails but they looked great

Menu wasn't clear that fries were included. So we ordered fries as everything was listed seperately that you had to pay for such as lettuce, tomatoe etc. When the burgers came it had fries with it and then they brought out the sides of fries. When we said the menu wasn't clear, they did apologise and take the side of fries back and didn't charge us. But they charge you £1 to have a slice of tomatoe on your burger, and if you want a leaf of lettuce it's another £1! Burgers also came wrapped in foil, assuming they precook them and it's to keep them warm, but it meant the buns were slightly moist and the beef burger was very thin. The chicken burger was better quality. Atmosphere and decor was good, and it was clean.
Elizabeth M — Google review
The menu for food is burger or nothing. It's a sort of build your own burger - choose the meat, then add extras. The extras include things like tomato £1, lettuce £1, gherkins, sauces etc - very expensive in my opinion. Not even bacon or cheese. We therefore assumed you had to choose and pay for your side so ordered fries. When they brought the food out, the burger came with fries already and then they brought out the extras we had unwittingly ordered. To their credit, they instantly took the extra fries away and we didn't have to pay for them. But it needs to be made clearer on the menu. The waiter did at least tell the table next to ours that the burger came with fries when they also ordered them from the list of sides. I had the chicken burger which was ok, my friend's hamburger was very pathetic looking. It's also served to you with the burger wrapped in tin foil. This is either a monumental waste of resources for a reason I can't fathom, or more likely, they're cooked in advance and kept warm until ordered in foil. It did make the bun somewhat soggy. The fries were nice but mine had an insane amount of salt on them (see photo of all the salt left at the end) to the point that I was having to shake each one or scrape it on the dish before I ate it. However, it's only fair to say my friend's fries were salty but not as bad. We also had a side of onion rings which were nothing to write home about - I've had much better in pubs at home. Service is automatically added to the bill which I don't like. The staff however were very friendly. 😀

The Edinbane Inn, located in the charming village of Edinbane, is a rural inn that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Originally built as a farmhouse, it has retained traditional elements such as an open fire and exposed stone walls. The inn's restaurant serves a mix of traditional Scottish dishes and gastro pub style plates, with options like Cullen Skink for starters and roast blade of beef for mains.
We had a wonderful meal here. Perfect fish & chips and one of the best burgers I've ever had. The sticky toffee pudding was worth the trip alone. The staff were very polite and apologized for the kitchen being slow but we hardly noticed. A wonderful and welcoming place all around!

We dropped in for lunch. Really good fish and chips. Nice, light and crispy beer batter on the fish and a decent sized portion. Also came with peas which if were minted and mushy would have elevated it to the next level. The scallops with black pudding were delicious and came with a garlicky pea puree. The prices were a little higher than other places but it was well above average. The staff were friendly and helpful. Poor beer selection though.

Wonderful place! The restaurant seems family-run and has a warm, very Scottish atmosphere. It’s attached to a hotel but open to everyone, and we noticed many locals dining there too. The menu is small but offers excellent dishes with something for everyone. My husband and I had the fajitas – huge portions and absolutely delicious. Truly recommend!

As we crossed the Isle of Skye, we were overwhelmed by its beauty and peace — and arriving at Edinbane Inn was a perfect continuation of that feeling. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly and humorous gentleman. Our room had everything we needed — very clean, comfortable, and with a spacious bathroom. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was absolutely divine! We tried the traditional fish and chips and a salmon dish — both delicious. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive, with plenty of variety. We had fresh fruit salad and toast with scrambled eggs and salmon. The lady who served us was exceptionally kind and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed. A truly special stay — highly recommended!

Stayed for one night with my wife & had a wonderful time! Located right near the Dunvegan Castle. Outstanding dinner & breakfast, very clean accommodations. Would personally recommend the Homemade Wild Skye venison burger in a homemade bun & the Edinbane Inn chocolate brownie, vanilla ice cream. Would recommend & the manager was extremely helpful/kind. Thanks again!

Called in with my wife for dinner without a reservation. We were given a table straight away. This was a weekday so I'm not sure if this would have been possible at a weekend. The staff were pleasant and friendly. The menu was not extensive but offered a good choice. We shared as a starter the charcutery board which looked impressive and was delicious as were the other courses. A very pleasant evening.

This review is for the restaurant only. Quite disappointed by our visit to Edinbane Inn, given the reviews were good. The food especially was disappointing; my partner had a lamb, black pudding and haggis burger, which was over £20 but was miniscule, the chicken for the fatijas was overcooked and dry, while the pie was sadly not a pie. Really disappointing. The service was fantastic, which is why I've gone for 3 stars instead of 2. Lovely people, but disappointing food.

Got charged £80 for one of the most underwhelming meals I’ve ever had. I never send food back anywhere, or write reviews, but this was rough. Staff were pleasant, but avoid Indian themed night. That was NOT Indian food. Way overpriced for a meal I didn’t even eat.

Seafood restaurant
The Lower Deck Seafood Restaurant is a waterfront dining spot that offers a casual atmosphere and specializes in serving the island's fresh bounty. The restaurant takes advantage of Skye produce, including seafood, lamb, and game. It is located near Portree Harbour, adding to its unique cultural experience. With an award-winning chef at the helm, this restaurant provides a relaxed setting for enjoying expertly cooked fresh seafood and other local delicacies.
We had a great experience here! The fish and chips were excellent, and we absolutely loved the fish pie. The fried calamari was delicious — crispy, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The Cullen skink soup was also a lovely surprise — it was our first time trying it, and we really enjoyed it. The staff were all incredibly kind and accommodating. As Muslims who avoid alcohol, we really appreciated that they took the time to double-check with us before preparing the fish pie, as it contains alcohol. That level of consideration meant a lot. We did have to wait about 30 minutes outside for a table, as the restaurant is quite small — but honestly, it was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend!
Howaida A — Google review
To begin with, the mussels we ordered were nicely sauced and quite tasty. The calamari was decent. For the main course, we tried four different dishes, and unfortunately, none of them were particularly good. Fish and chips, shrimp and chips, fish pie, and grilled salmon — all were mediocre at best. There are lots of small flies right in front of the restaurant, and some make their way inside. They were biting us while we ate, which was quite unpleasant. This is definitely something that should be addressed. The beers were local and nice. However, there was no draft beer, and the bottled beers were not cold. The service staff was friendly. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Egemen D — Google review
Perfectly located to view the water and boats, we enjoyed our meal. We did have to wait, but the staff were so nice and accommodated our family of 5! Once seated, we didnt wait long on our food. The food was okay. I would definitely say my fish pie was the best out of the scampi, fish and chips, scallops, and fish pie.
Carrie O — Google review
Good seafood restaurant by the pier. The service was great, the food was served quickly and our order tasted as expected. Mussels was delicious with cream sauce added to the better than average meal. The sea bass pesto was average.
Peter P — Google review
We were able to get seats at Lower Deck right away at around 7 pm on a Saturday (party of 3). However, they were pretty busy and there was a constant stream of people waiting. They don't take reservations so you have no choice but to wait. I got the fisherman's pie and a side salad. The fisherman's pie is like a shepherd's pie except with a dish filling. It has a good amount of fish and a nice warm meal. We also tried the sticky toffee pudding. It seemed to have some extra spice in it like a ginger cake and that was hit or miss for our group.
Vivian A — Google review
We got in immediately at lunchtime on a Sunday. I had the calamari, which I was told was fresh caught. It was quite good and not chewy at all. Cullen skink was good, a bit thin for my liking, but still delicious. We had the sticky toffee pudding to share and it was delightful! Several gluten free options available.
Kelsie B — Google review
The Lower Deck is Portree's quintessential seafood spot! The fresh, local catch—especially the Cullen Skink and salmon—is absolutely delicious and full of flavour. The harbour views are unbeatable, and the warm, friendly service makes the whole dining experience a true highlight of any Skye trip. A must-visit!
William F — Google review
After attempting to have lunch at the Lower Deck in Portree, we were refused entry to the restaurant because of an assistance dog for epilepsy. We were told that they did not care, accused of lying, and were asked to leave. Staff also stated that the law did not apply to them. This is deeply disappointing, particularly as we had heard positive things about this restaurant. Such treatment not only reflects poor customer service but also appears to be in breach of the Equality Act 2010, which protects the rights of individuals with disabilities and requires businesses to make reasonable adjustments, including allowing access for assistance dogs.

Cuchullin Restaurant in Portree is a top choice for those seeking seafood and quality meals. Situated on the main square, this restaurant offers a carefully curated menu that showcases the finest local catches. While the menu may change periodically, it consistently appeals to seafood enthusiasts. With its prime location and focus on highlighting fresh, local ingredients, Cuchullin Restaurant provides an excellent dining experience for visitors looking to savor Scottish cuisine.
Cuchullin Restaurant was one of my favorite meals in Portree. They don't take reservations so we waited 30 minutes in the rain and it was totally worth it. We did the 3 course menu and I had the mussels, scallops, and sticky toffee pudding. All of the food was outstanding and the service was very friendly. I would definitely recommend having a meal at Cuchullin while in Portree.
Vivian A — Google review
We had the fish and chips and onion tarte tatin. The fish was fresh, batter was crisp. I don’t usually like fries, but these were well seasoned, crispy and fluffy inside. The onion tarte tatin was a highlight. The tart was cruchy, onions caramelised and the balsamic vinegar brings refreshing balance. The service staff were inviting and enthusiastic about the food themselves. We arrived at 6pm on a Wednesday (late July) and waited for 15-20minutes.
Melina L — Google review
This place was wonderful! Maybe one of the best meals we have had here in Scotland. The seafood was amazing! The service was wonderful and the sticky toffee pudding was an absolute miracle! My wife and I had the seafood platter for two and it was perfection. The mussels we had were flavored perfectly. Our friends both had the catch of the day and it was wonderful as well. They don’t take reservations so you need to queue up, but worth the wait. Sister restaurant to the Sea Breezes.
Brandon R — Google review
Such good seafood! Fresh and in very very fair portions! Mussels were buttery and delicious. Scallops were seared very well. Salmon was cooked perfectly and came in a large fillet. Good portion of potatoes and seasoning. We shared one platter for 2 people! Delicious. Busy for a reason, expect a slight wait!
Priscilla W — Google review
Good quality seafood. Servers and bartenders were very friendly, although service was a bit less polished than we expected. The walk-in system was a bit slipshod around the door. Scallops were a standout.

We're staying at a traditional hotel in Portree on the Isle of Skye, which is right opposite The Cuchullin restaurant. The hotel is in a great location in the town centre. The restaurant offers excellent fish cakes and a large size seafood platter, with pricing at £45 for one or £80 for two. Their two or three-course set menu options are also quite decent.
W H — Google review
Oh my gosh, 5 stars just isn’t enough for a place like this! The food here is amazing. The quality and portion of the food for their 3 course meal is outstanding and on top of that the staff are so so friendly and attentive! Even when it was packed they still had seats quickly available for people walking in. Also, the atmosphere is so warm and cozy! I was on a bus tour visiting for the evening and was torn between what restaurant to choose as apparently they all are great but I genuinely think this one has to be the best! Try the other places but come here first!!
Roux F — Google review
The attitude of the staff is a problem and the food is terrible! Look to the chips ! I asked them if they are overcooked and the young man said it is nice cooked! It is really unbelievable to what i see and hear ! They cannot even cook a proper fish and chips , so do you think they can make anything else better? For years i can see this restaurants are going to downhill ! Please skip this restaurant and do not waste time &money there! If you really want something nice , portree hotel is a good choice and the bakery shop next to the bank of scotland is great as well

Nestled in the picturesque hamlet of Broadford, Claymore Restaurant is a family-run establishment offering a delightful dining experience with stunning sea views and a backdrop of Beinn na Caillich. The newly-furbished deck provides an ideal spot to savor fresh seafood and locally sourced Scottish Rib Eye Steaks and Stornaway Black Pudding during the summer months.
Superb dinner & great attentive service! Highly recommend mussels pot, I had special of the day - sweet potato soup & cod, both delicious, so is fish & chips super fresh! Save room for sumptuous dessert, toffee pudding is the best! Highly recommended while in Broadford, they do not take reservations but walk in only :) you won’t be disappointed!
Jackie H — Google review
We stopped here for dinner and had a mixed experience. The Cajun chicken was unexpectedly delicious — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. However, the seafood platter was underwhelming. It lacked freshness and excitement, and the oyster in particular seemed dry and not very fresh, which was disappointing. That said, the meal ended on a high note with the sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely fantastic — rich, warm, and satisfying. The coffee was also enjoyable, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. A decent spot overall, but we’d probably skip the seafood next time and stick to the other dishes.
Asmita U — Google review
The Claymore is what you’d wish to see after a long cold day on the Isle of Skye. It’s sturdy, hearty food with no-nonsense attitude is exactly what we needed after a long day on the road. We visited in late June, and the restaurant is completely packed. Visited at 6:30 and it is packed to the rim, and we waited 30 minutes to be seated. Diners were still piling when we left at 9:00. No reservations, so do pop in early to guarantee a table. Service is stellar and quick (compared to other restaurants in town which could be a bit of a wait). The front of house was welcoming and our waitress is superb. Food and drinks - a bit of hit and miss. We ordered the soup of the day (lentil soup) [Good], Skye Ale [not good, go for the regular pint instead], Fish with tomato and chorizo [Alright], and Burger and chips [Below average pub quality]. We didn’t order dessert but heard great feedback from our neighbours. Overall, a good spot to dine, good and quick service.

So delighted to have this pop up on our search for a restaurant en-route. There weren't many open on a Sunday and the first we called in to didn't suit our taste in food or ambiance. The Claymore was next to try, a seafood restaurant with a lovely ambience, delightful staff and a menu that served our tastes. I chose a cod dish with a langoustine, mussels and squats (a first for me! - delicious); hubby chose a burger with haggis - perfect for him! As I am gluten-free, I then followed with the sticky-toffee pudding with ice cream, as such gf desserts are not common. It, too, was delicious, although the portion was exceedingly generous and I will need a few workouts to work it off! When we get the opportunity, we'd love to come back. They don't take bookings, first-come, first served. We were seated promptly, but by the time we left, there was a long queue of peeps waiting.

staff very friendly and helpful. the seafood platter was fantastic. I'll definitely be trying to use again before leaving. chicken wings for a starter so no point in adding a picture of them

Very cozy little restaurant off the main road as you drive through to Skye. We stopped here without a reservation and, as a group of 6 (including a dog and 2 kids), we were lucky to get a big table at the front to accommodate us. Service was nice but slow...they were very busy though. Good drink variety; menu as well. Not a TON if you don't like fish. No kids menu so just shared our adult meals to make them a plate. The food was delicious. The sticky toffee pudding though not traditional, was amazing.

We really enjoyed this spot! After a long day of hiking and wanting to enjoy some delicious food, we were so thrilled to have some amazing Indian with a kick! Service was a little slow (but we came at a busy time) but the manager came by to check on us frequently! Lovely time, incredible food, and considerate staff!

We arrived at night after a long trip. The food was great. The chicken was tender and tasty. The garlic naan was pleasant. Our server (a young man) was very nice. We had a good time there. I was hesitant to visit this restaurant because of the lower reviews. My wife insisted to try because the low reviews were not about the food. As our food arrived I was glad she insisted because it was very good. Our server was nice and helpful. I didn't know what to pick and he gave me very good recommendations based on my needs.

After a walk to The Old Man of Stor we were all very hungry. We climbed the stairs to the restaurant. It was early evening and quiet. We ordered drinks. An extensive menu offering the usual favourites and Bengali and Hindu dishes. We selected onion Bhaji, followed by a Bengali fish dish, chicken dhansak, chicken bhoona and Relaz chicken. We shared rice and nann bread. Everyone agreed it was a good curry and what we needed after a long hike.

HMD ! — Google review
I genuinely did not expect to find Indian food in one of the farthest corners of the Isle of Skye, so stumbling upon Taste of India felt like a pleasant surprise. After days in the cold October–November weather, I was really craving something warm and familiar, and I was happy to see Indian cuisine on offer in such a remote location. The food itself was… decent to okay. Warm, comforting, and it satisfied the craving, but the flavours and quality felt average to sub-standard. I understand the challenges—different water, local ingredient sourcing, and adapting dishes to suit local Highland tastes can naturally result in a modified, “pseudo-Indian” profile. Given the geographics, I wasn’t expecting Michelin-star authenticity; I was still glad to get a hot curry in the Highlands! However, the service was the biggest let-down. One staff member in particular was extremely rude to guests who politely asked about waiting times, bluntly saying: “If you want fresh food here, you wait, or leave.” A simple smile and polite communication could have changed the entire atmosphere. What bothered me more was noticing this attitude directed mainly at Indians or Asian-looking guests, while the tone with others seemed notably different — which was disappointing and uncomfortable to witness. Being from London (though originally Indian), I experienced something similar myself when paying. Their card system had a network issue, and before I could explain, the manager assumed I had a foreign card and brusquely told me to “go get cash.” When I clarified I had a UK bank card, the tone shifted instantly and suddenly card arrangements were made — which shouldn't be the case at a professional establishment. Overall, while I’m grateful to have found Indian food in such a remote part of Scotland, the service experience overshadowed the meal. With some warmth, cultural sensitivity, and customer-care training, this restaurant could easily offer a much more welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone. I hope they take this feedback constructively, because it really could be a wonderful stop for travellers craving a taste of home.

One of the best lunches we’ve had in Scotland! Make sure to arrive early as it’s limited eating and can get crowded with tourists. The goat cheese burger was phenomenal great flavors and a slight sweetness but not overwhelming. Caesar salad was fresh and dressed appropriately. Chidakasha Skye is a seasonal cafe located in the picturesque and vast area of Glendale in the far North West of Skye. It offers locally sourced vegetarian/vegan fare and a variety of teas in a cosy, homely space. The region surrounding Chidakasha Skye showcases stunning natural landscapes, making it an ideal spot for a low-cost lunch with excellent vegan and vegetarian food options.
After driving down a single lane country road for an hour, the last thing I expected was to find a gorgeous, quaint, and unique dining experience! We lucked out with finding this place on a quick google search while exploring Isle of Skye, making an online booking before heading over. The building’s outside appearance was deceptive, because on the inside was a gorgeously decorated interior with fresh flowers, antique tea pots, and fresh loaves of homemade sourdough on display. Calming “spa music” immersed us into a relaxing evening, watching the local sheep walk past the window. The service was impeccable and the vegetarian 3 course meal was delicious. There were thought out tea pairings for each course and every item of food was made in house. All vegetarian food and no alcohol served, but don’t let that deter you from choosing this place! I would say this is easily my favourite small business restaurant I’ve ever visited.

We came here for dinner on our last night in Skye and it ended up being the best meal of our trip! It’s in a remote area of island with a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The food was incredible. Such a unique spot, it’s worthy of a Michelin! Thank you for a wonderful meal

Absolutely delicious food, and the tea pairings were a lot of fun It is a small intimate restaurant offering a unique experience, and I am so glad we got the opportunity to go. We were staying up the road and our B&B owner recommended this restaurant, saying that her guests always rated it incredibly highly. It absolutely did not disappoint. The restaurant has received positive feedback for its friendly staff and reasonable prices. Despite the appearance of the location, the cuisine is highly recommended for its quality and taste. Customers have particularly enjoyed dishes such as chicken biriyani, chicken tikka biriyani, and beef biriyani for their flavorful and spicy flavors.
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! I visited to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and the staff were very welcoming and provided excellent hospitality. Payment was cash only, but that wasn’t a problem for me. It also seems to be quite common in this town. The food was amazing as well. I ordered the Lamb Tikka Balti Masala, and it was absolutely delicious. I have nothing to complain about — I really liked this restaurant and would love to visit again.

“Prince of India” - Not sure why they use “India” in their restaurant name for a Bangladeshi restaurant. Very rude behaviour from the staff. They don’t accept card / bank transfer & force you to pay in cash. The table cloth wasn’t even clean & had food stains. We were asked to order for minimum £12.95 per person. Staff cleaned up the dishes even before us finished eating. Would never recommend it. There is no signal in the area which is why we ended up in this restaurant without checking reviews! Huge regret.
Veenamol M — Google review
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Well what can I say? We saw the average rating of 2.6 stars on google maps but really fancied an Indian. So went in with an open mind. Very quickly, that open mind, began to narrow. Upon entering the establishment we were greeted with what smelt like old, dirty ‘PE kit’ aroma filling the seating area. The place reminded me of an old 70’s horror movie scene where the couple enter a very shady looking place before getting murdered. We were shown to our quite small table, given menus and time to read them. The decor is a weird mixture of old English pub (lots of countryside framed pictures) surrounded by Indian themed paraphernalia. Each corner of the room also had an automatic air freshener. Perhaps they had run out? Amongst all that were three CCTV cameras, probably more. Let’s not forget the garish flashing/colour changing (Blackpool illuminations?) LEDs around the bar which seemed to be in competition with a broken flashing bulb on a wall lamp opposite. It was a bit like morse code and no doubt was desperately messaging ‘get me and yourselves outta here!’ Not a great start. Perhaps I should have learnt morse code so that we could have done a runner there and then. The waiter took our order whilst telling us that naan breads were not available until 6pm. I’m we asked if they did any fruity ciders to which he said yes. Turns out the only cider they do is a small bottle of Magners. I suppose apple is a fruit. As we were eating our poppadum starters we were serenaded by the clattering and sucking noises of a waiter who had decided to vacuum the restaurant with a Henry Hoover. Other customers had started to arrive who had to raise their voices to be heard by each other, even across their small tables. At least our chances of being murdered had lowered. I thought perhaps something had been spilt and this was an emergency cleanup. Wrong! He had almost done half of the restaurant by the time our small and flat onion bhajis arrived. I asked our waiter if the vacuuming would be going on much longer. Thankfully he took the hint and got the guy to stop. My chicken jalfrezi was pleasantly nice and of a decent sized portion. The pilau rice was good but very small portion. The wife’s tikka masala looked a bit fluorescent, tasted bland and was too watery. I finished quite quickly without feeling full. Perhaps due to the small rice, small bhaji, lack of naan and small table? Whilst the wife finished savouring her watery masala I thought I’d take a trip to the WC. OMG! What a treat for the eyes! Yes this must be where the murdering takes place I thought to myself. It was like a scene from a Saw movie. Red, concrete, stained and peeling floor, dripping in some form of liquid. The spy hole in the cubicle door expertly filled with tatty bog roll. And the sink tap wobbling if you tried to use it. But hey, at least the hot water worked. Previous reviews mention their credit card machine wasn’t working. I was impressed they’d taken the time to get permanent signs manufactured stating this. Looks like cash only, for the foreseeable. We managed to peel our seats and feet off of the sticky carpet and go to the bar where you ‘have’ to pay the bill. So whilst the decor was dire, the toilet terrible and the food small, the bill certainly wasn’t. It was full whack premier restaurant prices. The lack of an after meal chocolate/mint inspired me to write this truthful if somewhat disturbing review. We went late afternoon 4.30pm in June 2025. Oh dear, they still have time to kill us! I’ve just looked up the food hygiene rating.. IMPROVEMENT REQUIRED!!!. Says it all really.. not just about the food.
D42mat — Google review
First of all, they only accept cash—card payments are not an option, which is quite inconvenient for tourists. Secondly, I’m not sure why it’s labeled an Indian restaurant when the food is clearly Bangladeshi, with none of the authentic Indian flavors. The dishes also lacked seasoning, particularly salt. On the positive side, the interior design is impressive, but cleanliness could definitely be improved
Badhon K — Google review
Only Indian in name—unfriendly staff, no card payment option, and no bill provided. I do not recommend this place. The whole place felt like a tourist trap rather than a genuine restaurant.

Had an amazing experience! The food was tasty and nicely presented. The place was super clean, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Loved the Chicken Jalfrezi Balti and venison bhuna — it was full of flavor and perfectly cooked! 😋 I’ll definitely be coming back again soon! 🍽️✨

The attitude of personnel was great. He was very polite and accepted us Even thouh we had not hace a reservation before. We were twelve senior tourists and not many spoke English fluently. He was extremelly patient in spite of the difficulties of comunicación. The food was good, some of the dishes were a bit spicy for our taste. I was surpried that rice was not a side dish but a complete dish in itself. However, it was delicious The deserts we're very good, too. It deserves to be given a chance to improve comunication and customs which we're probably the base of the poor reviews he's had. On the other hand there sre other restaurantes like eighteen teenty which denied our previous reservation and lied to our face

This place is an absolute disgrace, and I have no idea how it’s still operating. We arrived in Portree, starving and desperate for a decent meal, only to stumble into what can only be described as a culinary nightmare. The food arrived quickly, but that was the only positive. The taste? Horrendous and downright inedible. We ordered 1 Butter Prawn (£14.95), 1 Pasanda Chicken Tikka (£10.95), 1 Fried Rice (£4.95), and 2 Parathas (£4.95), totaling £44.75 (including a service charge for what, exactly?). The so-called “food” was an insult to taste buds everywhere. To call it “authentic” is false advertising at its finest—it was barely worthy of being called food, let alone authentic. The dishes were so bad we couldn’t wait to pay and leave. Then came the next shock: no card payments accepted! There was a tiny sign inside, conveniently placed out of sight, saying the card machine wasn’t working. We weren’t informed about this before ordering, which was incredibly misleading. With no cash or cards on hand (they were left on our tour bus), we were left scrambling. Turns out, they were happy to take a bank transfer and even had their account details readily available—clearly, this isn’t a one-off issue. The fact they don’t have a sign on the front door is appalling and reeks of shady business practices. To add insult to injury, they don’t even offer tap water! You’re forced to pay for bottled water, squeezing every last penny out of you. The area barely has any signal, so I couldn’t check reviews beforehand—otherwise, I would’ve stayed far away from this so-called restaurant. Honestly, they should be fined for false advertising and shut down. Disgusting, disappointing, and utterly pathetic. Avoid this place at all costs.

Am Praban is a bustling bar in Sleat, with great views out over the Sound of Sleat. It has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, perfect for meeting friends or enjoying a pleasant evening drink. In wintertime the open fire will add to the rustic feel. The bar serves excellent British food as well as traditional Scottish drinks, and accepts credit cards. Live music is occasionally played here.
Favorite meal we have on Isle of Skye!! Really friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere! Even had gluten free fish and chips!! Mussels were perfect.

This is a lovely, rustic hotel and restaurant right on the edge of the Isle of Skye with stunning views. The bar man was very helpful and welcoming and found us a table and served us straight away. I had the soup of the day, which was delicious but a little runny for my taste. It was a stormy day outside, so I was rather disappointed that they didn't have the open fireplace burning as I was cold and wet. The food was very nice but quite pricey. Ideal for an occasional treat but not something we could afford to do regularly. Overall, this place is nice but I wouldn't visit again

Best shellfish platter I've had in a long long long time! Amazing value for money and extra fresh. The staff was adorable and the beers were very tasty. The location is also quite special if you are lucky enough to have sunshine when you visit. I'd be there at least once a week if I could!

We stopped in for dinner our first night in Skye and were able to grab a table before the dinner rush started. The pub is small and traditional. The venison burger and langoustines were delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

Excellent and fresh local food. Look at the specials written on the boards that are not included in the menu, and enjoy the wide selection of Scottish beers. You can enjoy the scenery around the place crowned by Ornsay lighthouse.

We happened upon Bar Am Prabam our first of three nights on the sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye. We were a bit tired from our trip and we didn’t want anything too fancy and Bar Am Prabam fit the bill. We were warmly greeted, the selection of single malt scotch was outstanding (great beers too) and the food was great. The local mussels, langoustines, and the seafood chowder were standouts, as was the chicken and the many appetizers we had! We returned again our last night and enjoyed another fine meal and fun evening. The music s great too. All the wait staff was great, but a special shout out to Savanah, Josh, and Colin is in order.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fast food restaurant
The Chippy Portree, located on Bank Street, is a popular spot for a casual fish supper. Visitors rave about the jumbo fish and chips, with fresh fish and crispy batter. The restaurant is known for its great customer service and the option to enjoy your meal outside under an awning. While it may be small and somewhat run down, it's the perfect place to grab some tasty takeaway food, especially if you're looking for a quick bite without needing a reservation.
Just arrived in Portree and were on the way down to the harbour. It was well past lunchtime and we just stumbled upon this Chippy shop and took a seat (tables available since peak time was over). Ordered some Fish'n'Chips, fried shrimp, some soda and a few minutes later also grilled chicken breast (seen it on another table, looked good). Staff was very friendly, prices fair for a hotspot like this. The fries were alright...just about as in any regular Chippy shop. The fish though was really great. Firstly it was actually two very sizeable pieces. Very crispy, inside fresh, juicy and tender. As it should be. The fried shrimp were really wonderful. Again: tasted nice and fresh. Hot and crispy. The good looking chicken breast was actually very good. And not just a chicken breast - it was pretty much half of a chicken. Very nicely grilled with great flavours. We really had a great time here. Location is very convenient, not much of a view. But a cheerful atmosphere. Food was great as was the service. Prices fair. An enjoyable lunch.
Alex H — Google review
The fish was nice and fresh but the chips must have definitely been a re-fry of yesterdays 😕 they were stale and very dark. I can only assume we were the first customers of the day but not what I expect from a harbour chippy!! Nice view and they've put some gazebos up to shelter from the rain.
Nicola W — Google review
I'm not an expert but the fish I received was delicious and the chips were good too. Sit at the picnic tables and enjoy the food!
Richard P — Google review
I was so excited to try from all the amazing reviews here on Google but unfortunately was disappointed. I hope we got an “off” day. We got the fish, scampi, haggis, onion rings. And cheese chips. The cod was dry and tough and tasteless. Everything was very oily. The chips were not good :( I do appreciate that the cheese was NOT nacho cheese. Service was good, the lady was very nice.
Sarah T — Google review
Visited on a busy Tuesday afternoon, ordered 4 chip butties, £12 (cash only) - delicious 👌
Matthew B — Google review
It's takeaway with picnic benches, so not much atmosphere to comment on. Service was good. Prompt and person taking orders was very kind. Food was mixed. We got fish and chips. Fish was a generous potion and well cooked. Quite tasty. Chips were somewhat mealy and lacking flavor. Needed to be somewhat thinner and to spend a bit more time in the fryer.
Sascha T — Google review
Terrible. Ordered a steak pie and a chicken burger. Pie was ordinary. Chicken burger was a stale bun with a dry deep fried piece of chicken on it, and nothing else! Spend your cash elsewhere
Luke D — Google review
We basically stumbled upon this chippy following the amazing scent of freshly fried food from up the street. The spiced fried chicken was amazing, and the fish was not too shabby either - flaky fresh. The chips were a little on the grease-laden side, which we didn’t quite enjoy, but it did smell amazing (it’s fried in beef fat). I really loved the chicken though - would have a bucket of it any day!

Restaurant
The Merchant Bar is a wood and stone-accented tavern located at the Bosville Hotel. It has a wide and varied drinks list, as well as Scottish gins and single malts. The barman was very welcoming and recognized where I was from. Although reservations were required, he was able to find me a table nonetheless. The pasta I had with wild mushroom and chestnut cream was delicious.
We went for drinks only. The bar was lovely, beautiful modern decor. Really lucky nice atmosphere everytime we went. Good range of beers, wines, whiskey and gins. They don’t really do cocktails, but the barmen was happy to make me an old fashioned with whisky, which was great.

An amazing bar to sit in all evening and work your way through their extensive whisky collection. Dragan and his colleagues behind the bar really know their stuff. A fun place to hang out.
Alex R — Google review
I had a very disappointing and unpleasant experience during my recent visit. The guy at counter was extremely rude which made the entire interaction uncomfortable. Instead of being helpful or courteous, their attitude came across as dismissive and disrespectful. Good customer service goes a long way, but unfortunately, that was completely lacking here. I expected a basic level of politeness and respect, but that wasn’t the case. I truly hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures better training for their staff, so that future customers don’t have to go through a similar experience.
Rachel P — Google review
Gorgeous restaurant, beautiful atmosphere, only drank here but beer was cold and bartender was friendly. Feels authentically Scottish
Kara S — Google review
Let me tell you about the disastrous experience we had at this bar. The Routard guide recommends it for its good atmosphere, so we decided to have an aperitif. The service was appalling. The waiter casually poured beers, pretending to be unsure how to do it, all while touching his private parts. The beers were sticky, poorly filled, and served with a nasty look. We ordered a second glass to see if we were imagining things or just being paranoid, but no, we were definitely dealing with a salesman. Avoid at all costs. Oh, and it stank of cheap wine.
Arthur P — Google review
Rude server, bartender treated as if we are asking something for free.. disastrous experience. The bartender bald man needs to go to a retreat, learn manners and then come back serve again.

Convenient location near the centre and the car park, but everything is close by in Portree. Good music, nice selection of craft beers and single malt served with crisps or other snacks. Charming, eclectic, and so incredibly cozy! We enjoyed a great pot of tea (they even had decaf Earl Grey which I appreciated!) and some lovely soup. This place is a dream on a foggy rainy day!

The Isle of Skye is spoilt for choice when it comes to cafes, bakeries and lunch options, but Bog Myrtle is definitely one of the best. It definitely feels special as soon as you enter and it just gets better from there on in. Service is super friendly and kind. Staff genuinely seem to care about what their customers think and experience. And the food is outstanding. Imaginative and beautifully presented, it also delivers on taste. We had a delicious courgette, pea, mint and lime soup, plus the Scotch Reuben, and the salted caramel doughnut was pure joy!! I'm still dreaming about it now. The interior is interesting and beautifully designed with lots of fascinating areas to relax in. Don't hesitate to visit this lovely cafe with superb staff and a beautiful view. We absolutely loved it.

The seaweed smashed potatoes and Turkish eggs were truly some of the best things we've eaten in Scotland! I also got their latte with Heather honey and it was divine. Incredible place - decor and ambience was so sweet, food delicious, and service lovely. Had a more quiet feeling even through the busy lunch hour. Actually changed my life. Come here!

What a dreamy place… the atmosphere is so welcoming and the food looks amazing. I regret arriving here with a full stomach, just for a quick stop. As a local I would spend so much time here, reading, eating, drinking lattes and kombuchas in conversation with friends.

The place is well located near the center. They have both sit in and take out. Staff is helpful and kind. We ordered both soups of the day, which were chicken and rice soup, and sweet potato and coconut soup. The sweet potato soup was so good we ordered the second bowl. Good quick lunch!

Exceptionally friendly staff and a great range of gluten-free options. The fish and chips were outstanding—crispy, flavorful, and generously portioned. A must-visit spot if you're in town!
Ritchie H — Google review
We stopped here while on a tour of the Isle of Skye. While we were in Portree, a cruise ship was also ported there, so the city was very busy. You couldn't get into most places or at least not in a timely manner when on a tour. Relish was one of the few places we could get in. It's an interesting restaurant in that you order downstairs, then they have cameras upstairs to tell them if seats are available, and if so, which table you can claim. From a service perspective, they were so busy there wasn't a ton of time for banter. That's not to say they weren't friendly, but they were just taking orders, seating people, and cleaning up. For lunch, I ordered the venison burger minus the black pudding. It was good, but the texture was a little odd, a little soft. I don't eat venison often, so maybe that's normal. Flavor was decent, but not the best burger I've had. My wife had chicken noodle soup, which she described as just ok, and a bland piece of bread.

Great coffee, had a sausage roll and a Bakewell slice both were lovely. Staff happy and friendly. If you are visiting Portree I highly recommend this place.

Great place for a proper hearty breakfast. All of the meat tasted like it was high quality.
Alex R — Google review
Had a sit in breakfast today and unfortunately very unimpressed. Service was not the best especially when ordering at the till, drinks order was wrong and when the full breakfast arrived it was very small plus the sausage and bacon looked barely cooked. For £12 for a full breakfast it was very disappointing and felt like a rip off. My boyfriend did not finish his breakfast so we will not be back. There must be way better places to have a breakfast in the centre of Portree that are better value for money.

A nice cafe to grab a hot meal and drink on a winter’s day with a blue theme and very atmospheric vibe to it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially since I forgot my book in the cafe and one of them ran out to hand it back to me. The food was pretty good too. The soup of the day; “Roasted Red Pepper Tomato” was very warm and tasty! The calamari was scrumptious too; not too hard or soft, just the right amount of crisp to it. The beef burger I had wasn’t half bad at all too; the fries were alright but could be better and the patty wasn’t bad at all. Cool cafe!

We stopped in here at lunchtime straight from the ferry from Tarbert and to our amazement still scored a table without a reservation. We were to,d 10 minutes wait, and top marks to the staff who cleared tables at lightning speed, handed out menus while we waited, and then the food came out super fast. We had the langoustines and crab salad and both were superb. They also serve a good range of local beers. There’s plenty of parking on site, but book ahead as this place is deservedly super popular, and a few people had to be turned away.

A real gem of a place - love coming here. Consistently fantastic food (a nice mixture of comforting staples and specials with interesting twists), great coffee and cakes, warm service and incredible views. Good for vegetarian and gluten-free options (and possibly others) and they do take-away. Often a bit quieter than some of the more tourist-visited places between Kyle and Portree, so worth travelling that bit further. It's popular with locals and you'll often hear Gaelic conversation (tha e sgoinneil!). Not the cheapest but you'll certainly have no trouble paying more for lower quality food, elsewhere on the island - so would say it good value (especially given quality of everything and decent portions sizes). Not always open in the evening, so do check the opening hours. The cafe (and the attached hall and shop, which is also great) is owned by the community, so all the money goes back to the community.

This was my favorite meal of the entire trip! The food was incredibly authentic to real Asian cuisine, and the cook was so friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place to anyone who can speak Chinese, as the menu is quite different from the English counterpart and might be hard to navigate otherwise. The braised lamb soup was absolutely divine – rich and full of flavor. The seafood was also super fresh. A big bowl of homemade chilies oil to add to the flavor. I’d definitely come back if I get the chance!

Looks unassuming, but I assure you that the food really packs a solid punch. I’m not someone who usually eats beef, but their signature beef noodle soup is so, so flavourful! Was already full but I can’t stop drinking the soup. Portion size is big too! For our Asian friends who miss chicken rice, do order their Chinese-style cucumber salad. It will scratch your chicken rice itch! The special combo has a good mix of flavours. Well-balanced. Just like what someone said, we really had one of the best meals here for this trip!! Ps. Their chilli is really really spicy too :’) hits the spot

It's hard to believe that such authentic Chinese cuisine could be called "inauthentic" by some. The braised pork and marinated beef absolutely blew my mind—the moment I finished the entire bowl of rice with toppings, I felt a sense of complete fulfillment in life. The chili oil seasoning was also incredibly authentic and flavorful. This is the kind of culinary excellence that would be considered masterful even in China.

Arrived in Portree where every fish and chips restaurant was fully booked. Instead of some just fried dishes we found this nice, cozy little surprise at the end. Enjoyed a hot spicy noodle soup at a rainy cold day. Friendly and hearthly owner. Thanks for the service, soup and of course the green tea (:

Udon noodles with beef, shrimp, tomato scrambled eggs, half a braised egg, and two McNuggets. It feels novel and the taste is acceptable. The beef noodles are average. The best food is the cold cucumber salad, which is fragrant with sesame oil and sweet.

Went here for lunch and got the beef noodle soup. By far the most flavorful food we’ve had since we arrived in Scotland. There was chili oil available and it was a great addition to the soup! Staff was very friendly!

Not sure if this is typical dining for Scottish Chinese food, as we are from America. But wow just utterly the worst Chinese food ive ever had. First sign should have been we were the only ones in there. I actually laughed when we received what looked like McDonalds chicken nuggets. The beef and potatoes were like stew meat and seemed out of place. No sauce on the noodles. Not sure if tomatoes and egg are supposed to go together but it grossed me out. Wouldnt recommend to ANYONE.
Erika W — Google review
Honestly, this was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in Scotland. The prices are shockingly high, £20 for just a tiny plate of cucumber salad. The service was even worse! The waiter’s attitude was so rude that we completely lost our appetite. We ended up leaving without eating anything because we were just too upset. Definitely not recommended.

Elgol Bistro is a hidden gem in the small fishing village of Elgol on the Isle of Skye. The village offers stunning views of the Cullin Mountains, making it a photographer's dream. The bistro serves fantastic food, with their Fish and Chips being highly recommended. Visitors can also enjoy homemade ice cream in flavors like White Chocolate and Whisky. The owner, Donald, is known for being welcoming and informative.
The owners are adorable and generous. We arrived a little bit late, but they took really good care of us. The smoked salmon is super fresh and tasty, and so are the haddock and tomato one. The local sky beer is very refreshing. A must stop !

Another lovely meal at the bistro. Greats service from Donald and the new waitress in training doing very well! Advised to contact to book via email or Facebook to ensure you can get a table. We booked the day before and left extremely happy! Highly recommend the fish & chips, 5 cheese macaroni, brownie & ice cream! Local Skye Gold to wash it all down. Hope to be back next time!

Stopped by for a quick bite through the wilderness and nothingness. It’s warm and cosy, with cute music playing, and a welcoming host. The food was good too, only tried the vegetarian soup. Good vibes all around, and a must stop on your visit to Elgol. It is an unexpectedly welcome rest stop, where the earth ends and the sea begins (or maybe the sea ends too and the earth flattens out? Your guess is as good as mine). If you’re lucky, you’ll find some sheep grazing in the surrounding area of the cafe!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The menu is short, creative, and locally focused. All of our dishes were delicious and well-executed. Service was terrific, and the atmosphere was relaxed: a mix of locals and travelers. Highly recommend the whisky/chocolate flight for dessert!

The best Cullen Skink in the Isle of Skye. The owner was really kind and warm. He taught us about local music from Skye which become our road trip soundtrack. We are sure that he will win the next cullen skink championship! The road to reach Elgol was really beautiful during the golden hour - sunset. Reservation is really recommended (via Instagram).

We travelled from Fort William and booked a table by emailing the restaurant. Donald was very responsive and promptly confirmed our reservation by email. I recommend booking in advance, as the restaurant was full when we arrived. The food was excellent, and the service was warm and friendly. Thank you, Elgol Bistro!

This was a beautiful and friendly place to eat. My husband and I count it as the best food we had during our trip to Scotland. Our B&B host recommended it and encouraged us to message them on Facebook for a reservation which they seemed to appreciate. The food was amazing, but the ice cream really blew us away. Highly recommend getting some (we got the white chocolate and whisky flavor) as we will forever be missing it now.

The french restaurant Creelers is a great place to enjoy delicious seafood dishes, served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It is well worth making a reservation, as it can get quite busy at times. The food is always fresh and of high quality, with mussels being the standout dish.
Exceptionally good seafood in Broadford, Isle of Skye. Pricey, yet completely common and laid back restaurant. Reservation is a must, since this place, inconspicuous from outside and in, is packed. At all times. The awards this place received are well deserved. A Michelin star may be upcoming. Service was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, food was on-point, well cooked and generally speaking: perfect. Can wholeheartedly recommend to all seafood lovers!

Small seafood Reasturant with good views out over Broadside Bay. Quite cramped inside with basic decor so not particularly cozy or relaxing for a long meal. Food was quickly delivered and was very nice if a little overpriced. The menu does have a good selection with a good selection of specials too (which we had - king scallops and crayfish tails). Overall, not bad but for the price would expect excellent food or much better decor.

When visiting the Isle of Skye, make sure to stop by The Noost for a delightful experience. This charming spot offers delicious homemade cakes, incredible coffee, and mouthwatering sandwiches in a beautiful setting with breathtaking views. It's an ideal place to enjoy a quick lunch while taking in the stunning surroundings. With its friendly staff and inviting atmosphere, it's perfect for both adults and kids alike.
Beautiful setting, friendly staff (owners?) and delicious toasties! We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed the incredible views. Kids played on the old boat and on the beach. Adults sat in comfortable chairs overlooking the beach, water and hills. We bought the ham/cheese/chutney and the pastrami toasties and then went back for more! This place is definitely a great option for lunch on any dry day.

Portree Youth Hostel is a budget-friendly accommodation option that caters to walkers and travelers exploring Skye. The hostel offers a variety of rooms, from private en-suites to shared dorms, with many featuring stunning views of the Sound of Rasaay. Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi, a communal kitchen, and a cozy dining area. The comfortable lounge provides fantastic views, while the staff is friendly and helpful.
Simple and cheap accommodation in the centre of Portree. Very friendly staff. Well equipped although very busy kitchen. Nice lounge area with a nice view. Bathrooms were small and the shower head would benefit from replacement, I would also suggest plug splitters to be added to the sockets near the beds because there were no spare plug sockets for a phone charger without unplugging a lamp. Enjoyable experience overall and great price especially if you book direct! Added bonus if you ask nicely you can do your laundry for free, they'll even let you use their washing powder :)

Pros: Great location, clean, and friendly staff. Cons: Feels more like a basic hostel; rooms are run-down; beds in the double rooms are only 185 cm from headboard to footboard—seriously, who came up with that idea? Sleeping comfortably is a challenge. Conclusion: There are likely better options available in the area. /Family with teenagers

Stayed here last summer and had a great stay! Staff on reception were super friendly, let me leave my big bag after/before check in/out so I could still go off and explore without lugging it around, gave me suggestions of nearby hikes, what buses to get and gave me some maps. Really really great service. Hostel inside was clean, charging port and light by each bed, toilet/shower in the dorm (6 bed female dorm). Will definitely be back when I come back to Skye.
Laura P — Google review
The photo doesn't do this place any harm. It's just a photo of low cloud rolling across the mountains. The hostel is staffed by pleasant staff who have a responsible position in making the customer feel very welcome. The hostel is a bit smaller than some I've visited in the past, but that being said, it's facilities are top notch. Each bunk room has its own bathroom, with a sink, toilet and shower. Would I recommend it, most definitely. Thank you for the experience.
Colin H — Google review
I had a terrible experience at this hotel. There was no heating in the room, and it was freezing cold. To make things worse, no one was available at reception to help or address the issue. The window was in awful condition, letting in cold air all night and making the room even more uncomfortable. Overall, it was a very unpleasant stay — I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone until they fix these problems.
Salimda88 — Google review
In the room the wi-fi did not work once during the whole stay, it barely worked once in the lounge (but the yankees where very loudly explaining their new "eat, travel, love" philosophy to everyone as if they've just discovered travelling). The room was spacious, but as always no luggage rack or comfortable place to put/open any luggage.
S — Google review
The room for 4 was tiny, so much so that two people walk past each other. Hardly any room for luggage. The bed had not been change before or after my stay! Disgusting!!! The steps to reception are dangerous because of missing slabs, in particular when carrying a suitcase. Male staff were indifferent and not very helpful. Absolute rip off! Too expensive for what you get. The mattress was hard and noisy. There is no charger by each bed. One of my worst hostel experiences. The only good thing about this place was the view from the lounge.

The Bosville Hotel is a charming property offering comfortable rooms and a cottage, along with two dining options and a stylish bar. The hotel's restaurant boasts a relaxed atmosphere, an acclaimed chef, and a menu highlighting local Skye produce such as lamb, game, and seafood. Situated near Portree Harbour, the hotel provides easy access to the unique culture of the area.
Still dreaming of our stay at The Bosville! We (family of three) stayed in The Cottage, directly across from the main hotel/restaurant, it was so lovely, spacious, and a welcome retreat from our busy hotel in Edinburgh. The check in process was simple and met with a welcoming hostess! Our breakfast each day was absolutely delicious and the service was wonderful. I thought this was going to be a bit of a splurge hotel but it was 100% worth the cost, I will definitely stay here again if we're ever back in Portree.
Paige D — Google review
For the money and location, the room was decent. However, the walls are paper thin and you hear everything through the walls from a block away from your room to the stairwell. Don’t stay here if you intend on getting any sleep. Other than that, the staff was impeccable. The food was good.
Connie C — Google review
Location great! Hotel itself is definitely nothing special. Hallways very narrow, dark and dirty. Walls very thin. We faced the street directly over the bar so was very noisy. In the USA this would be equivalent to a 2 star, 3 star max. Breakfast in adjoining restaurant was very clean and very good. Great service at restaurant. Parking terrible- Has 7 spots total first come first serve. Otherwise have to park a few blocks away and hall your luggage through town and pay to park. Definitely not work the $500/night! Very overpriced for midweek.
Glen G — Google review
We had an excellent three days at the Bosville while exploring Skye. The Family of 4 room was plenty of space and extremely quiet. There is one large bed and two chairs that fold out into singles. I wouldn’t recommend the fold-puts for adults. It seems to be in the back of the hotel away from the street and bar/restaurant noise. The staff was very kind, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Breakfast is excellent, as is the dinner if you choose to reserve a table there in the evening. As others have mentioned, parking is a limited and not reserved. However, we always managed to snag a space when returning in the evening. This place is in the heart of Portree and you can walk anywhere in town easily. Would definitely return.
Brenden N — Google review
My favourite hotel on Skye (but I have never stayed anywhere else because I keep coming back)! Nice rooms: good size, well appointed, larger than normal shower, excellent breakfast. Most importantly, the staff is kind and attentive.
Michelle D — Google review
If you stay here, ask for a room away from the street front view and also not over the bar. The delivery trucks start early 6:30am and the bar music plays loudly until 11pm. Windows are open to cool the rooms so you get all of the noise. Low tech room with few charging options. Not worth the high price per night in my opinion.
Phil F — Google review
A very basic nothing special hotel and room. Clean for sure, but other than that not worth the price. Well-located but the town is so small any other hotel in the area will also be well-located. Dark room as well. I guess they are labeled as 4 star? Definitely not. What a rip off at 330 GBP/night.

Restaurant
Marmalade Hotel is a refined establishment housed in a 19th-century Georgian building that has been recently renovated to a high standard. The hotel boasts mature gardens with stunning views of Portree village, the loch, and the Cuillin Mountains. Guests can dine at the chic restaurant either indoors or outside in the beautiful gardens. The hotel's location offers both seclusion and proximity to downtown Portree, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
We had a great stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable. As others have commented, the staffing appears to be an issue at the restaurant and bar,. However, that being said, the young men working there hustled and provided excellent service. In particular Sean is a wonderful young man who went above and beyond to ensure great service with a ready smile. It is a short walk into Portree down the hill and provided a quiet room for sleep. I can highly recommend the food, the dinner and breakfast were both quite good with a nice menu selection.
Olds D — Google review
We loved our time at Marmalade hotel in Portree. Beautiful view from our window, very comfortable room and spotlessly clean. The breakfast and team were lovely, even though they had to attend to some very demanding guests (not us!) they remained unfazed. Great job guys! The easy walk down to the little village and square for some souvenir shops. Loved it!
Jennifer B — Google review
The Marmalade was a great place to stay in the highlands. It is situated on a quiet hill that is only a short walk into town. Storr, the Quiraing, and other outdoor activities all within 45 mins of the Marmalade. Yes, the rooms can be on the expensive side but they are pretty spacious and there is a full bar, a full restaurant, and a sauna all on hotel grounds.
Sean C — Google review
The Marmalade Hotel is in a prime location near downtown Portree, which seems to be the main justification for the very steep price—nearly $700 per night during our stay. While the rooms were clean and comfortable, they didn’t quite live up to the luxury price tag. Ours was located at the end of the hall, and although we had a window, the view was mostly blocked by a large tree. On the positive side, the breakfast was lovely—fresh, well-prepared, and served in a pleasant setting. Overall, we enjoyed our time in Portree, but given the cost, we expected a bit more in terms of amenities, service, or room quality.
Amy M — Google review
Overall a Pleasant Stay, But a Few Amenities Missed the Mark I recently stayed here and overall had a great experience — the rooms were clean and comfortable and the atmosphere was relaxing. However, a couple of things did fall short. The sauna was unfortunately out of service during my visit, which was disappointing as it was one of the main reasons I booked this property. Additionally, the coffee machine in the relaxation room was broken, which took away from the post-spa experience. The *night receptionist*was also bit hesitant to let us go to the relaxation room citing rules that only sauna goers can use the relaxation room. Upon being insisted that sauna was anyways not working she finally let us go to the relaxation room. *****The soap caddy in the shower was broken ******. They could have fixed it if they are charging a premium rate of 500 GBP per night. That said, the rest of the facilities were well-maintained and I appreciated the quiet, restful vibe of the hotel. If those small issues were addressed, it would easily be a five-star stay.
B R — Google review
Mixed Review - needs some serious leadership / management. To start with the positives, the room was lovely and bed super comfy. The sheets were gorgeous, and well equipped and clean. Decor throughout was nice. However, there are many shortfalls. Only small things, but they really made a negative impact. First impression of outside space and parking was very poor. Looked run down and not great signage. Reception greeting / check in was strange, disengaged staff and not particularly helpful. The reception area was messy and it stayed like that for the full 3 day stay. There was a delivery of boxes that was there when we arrived and they weren't moved. The bar / lounge was unwelcoming and not clear how to relax or get a drink. The restaurant was OK, breakfast 1 morning was nice the 2nd morning, below par. Dinner OK - but the staff were obviously disengaged and poorly trained. 2 young girl waitresses spent about an hour flirting with the bar man, when they could have been clearing up, prepping for the next day etc. They also seemed short staffed in all areas. Restaurant had no ambience. Overall, poor attention to detail - very dead flowers with stagnant water in restaurant, floors / rugs needed a good clean, empty diffusers, nowhere to dry your hands in the reception WCs....It seemed overall that it was really lacking a strong leader / manager to make sure everything is up to scratch and to keep all the staff accountable and high standards throughout. We paid £800 for 2 nights, definitely not worth that. The fact that there are no replies to any recent Google Reviews reflects their lack of interest in maintaining standards. Not sure there is a long term future if they don't start making an effort unfortunately.
F M — Google review
This is NOT a 4 Star Hotel. No Bell service was offered or available. Marks on walls and furniture. No turndown service. Reception was on the phone and did not acknowledge us until terminating the call 5 minutes later when checking in. Like the Restaurant, overpriced as well. Host said "Follow me Guys" when leading My elderly Mother, My Wife, and me to our formica top table, with paper napkins. After being asked the type of water preference, the bottle was just place on the table. Lounge floor was filthy, and I can go on and on. After coming from the Isle of Eriska and The Balmoral in Edinburgh, this was like a Youth Hostel.
Toby&Marcie B — Google review
I stayed at the Marmalade Hotel while visiting the Isle of Skye and loved the hotel. The room was spacious, well maintained, and clean. The hotel has daily housekeeping, a very friendly front desk, and the included breakfast is quite good. The hotel also has free onsite parking and we never had an issue parking the car at the hotel. The hotel is about a 5 min walk from the main Portree area, which was fine for us. The hotel rooms do not have a fridge and there is no onsite gym or laundry. If you are visiting Isle of Skye and want to stay in Portree, I would highly recommend Marmalade Hotel.

Fast food restaurant
Fat Panda Takeaway is a popular local spot in Portree, offering strictly takeaway options and open six days a week. To avoid long waits, it's recommended to pre-order earlier in the day or use their online ordering system. In addition to Chinese cuisine, they now have a noodle bar and sushi place. Customers rave about the salt and pepper onion dish as well as the duck options on the menu. The portions are generous, with delicious vegetable and chicken dishes available until late at night.
First night on Skye and didn’t want to cook. Found this, ordered over the phone, collected within 15 minutes. Food was tasty, lady in the takeaway was friendly. Slightly pricey but then we ordered more than we needed so our thought really. Would order again 👌
Matthew B — Google review
Not great. We got beef curry and egg fried rice. Rice was good, but the curry was bland, had a whole onion in it, and the beef was very low quality and tasted of water (not sure how that's even possible, but it did) and was ready in a matter of minutes which means it probably wasn't cooked fresh. We were wondering how good this would be give the polar opposite reviews. But not recommended.
Holly H — Google review
My experience here was disappointing. The food tasted like it had been pre-cooked and reheated, lacking freshness. Additionally, the service was not welcoming, and I felt that the staff could have been more polite. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it based on my visit.
Nan A — Google review
Its takeaway there isnt much atmosphere but it was a refreshing one for our asian parents who wanted asian food after awhile. Food was great. We got the sweet and sour pork, fried rice with roast duck and they were both great at 7/10 for taste. Food is probably reheated but thats usually the case for these kinds of food/establishment.
William L — Google review
After camping in Portree for 4 nights and living off packet cereal bars and pot noodles, we needed to find some decent hot food to combat the wind and rain. We found limited vegan/veggie options in most places so decided to get a takeaway to eat in our tent. I am so glad we did, it was exactly what we needed. The tofu in black bean sauce was great, so was the vegetable curry. Would really recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy vegetarian/vegan meal!
Lucia J — Google review
Had the special and chicken curry, not great. The chicken was rubbery and the curry sauce was like slime/goo with curry powder in it. I do not think it was made by them. The rice was good.

Don't know what has happened to this place, but the prices have gone up and the food quality has gone down severely. It now tastes like pre cooked stuff you buy in a shop. I drive to Kyle and back now as its cheaper and much tastier.

The Siaway Fish & Chips restaurant is a great place to go for a quick bite of fish and chips. The fish is always fresh, the chips are delicious, and they have plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. If you're looking for a good seafood option in Broadford, this is definitely the place to go.
Great to see vegan and gluten free options on the menu. Staff were polite and helpful. Curry sauce was lovely too. Phoned our order through and collected 30 minutes later as we noticed a large queue the day before...
Mark A — Google review
A busy place and not surprising as the food is very good. The fact that it was queued out the door on a Tuesday evening was a good sign and we were happy to wait the ten minutes or so. Order was taken and we had our food in about ten minutes. Great chips and fantastic crispy batter on our fish and smoked sausage. Highly recommend.
Will M — Google review
Siaway offers a wide range of takeaway dishes, with plenty of classic and modern options to choose from. It's primarily a takeaway spot – there are a few seats inside, but no proper tables, so it's not really intended for dining in. Service was fine and the food came out fairly quickly. This was actually my very first time trying fish & chips, and overall I really enjoyed it! The portion was generous, the fish was crispy, and the chips were okay. Next time, though, I’d skip the vinegar – a personal preference, but it slightly overpowered the flavour for me. All in all, a nice and easy place to grab a traditional meal. I’d happily return.
Teemu T — Google review
The best fish and chips I’ve tasted in a long while. I went early afternoon so it wasn’t busy so my fish and chips got made fresh. The fish was cooked to perfection and the chips super crispy. The staff are friendly. Take your fish and chips across the road to the benches overlooking the water.

£10 for battered haddock wouldn't have minded if it was a large crispy bit of fish......avoid and go to their pizza place as it was OK. Totally disappointed - sunglasses for perspective of this soggy poor offering. Chips at £1.90 were passable

Top quality black pudding with lorne sausage roll. Nice brioche bun top. Served by a very friendly (and busy!) chap It is only food option immediately outside Quiraing, but don't let that fool you. Quality of the food speaks for itself.

We had Lorne sausage, egg and cheese on brioche rolls. Absolutely sensational! Will come again on our way back.

Friendly guy, happy to have a wee chat. We had a great lorne sausage and egg roll, all cooked fresh in front of us. Small snacks and hot/cold drinks also available.

Great spot to grab a snack and a hot drink. Be prepared to wait as this is a very busy location. Well worth it if you do. Accepts card payments too which is handy as its a tad windy up there. Chap that served me was courteous and friendly.
