Cuckoo Dough is a popular eatery known for its double-fermented sourdough pizza and creative cocktails. The restaurant features a nature-inspired roof terrace and offers a bottomless brunch option at 29.50 per person, available every day with last bookings at 4 pm. Reviewers have praised the friendly staff, upbeat atmosphere, and delicious food. While some minor issues with facilities were noted, overall experiences were positive, with patrons recommending the pizzas and starters as standout dishes.
Amazing food especially if you're pasta & Pizza lovers. They have great options in cocktails I loved their kiwi dream it was so good. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Ambience is another plus point. You must try tiramisu it's out of the world extremely delicious. We loved it.

Dining at this establishment is a genuine pleasure from start to finish. The kitchen, led by Chef Liam, delivers dishes that are not only expertly crafted but clearly prepared with pride and precision. Every plate that leaves his kitchen speaks of dedication — flavors are balanced, textures thoughtfully considered, and presentation impeccable without feeling forced. Equally commendable is Arif, the gracious host and owner, whose presence sets the tone for the entire experience. Personable and genuinely invested, he ensures that guests feel welcomed and cared for, while his hands-on approach keeps the service running seamlessly. It’s rare to see such harmony between the kitchen and the front of house — a true reflection of teamwork and shared passion. This is not just a meal; it’s an encounter with people who love what they do and do it exceedingly well. A place where hospitality meets heart, and every bite reminds you why dining out can still feel special, I will be surely back to explore more 💥💥

I love this place! Beautiful aesthetics inside and for once a restaurant which has have really comfortable chairs! Although a paired back menu, easier and clearer to choose from. Pizza was delicious and you can taste the dough was handmade! Staff front house and in the kitchen were so welcoming and just made it feel comfortable and relaxed! 10/10 will be back and recommend to my friend and family

Cuckoo Dough is a fantastic find right in the heart of Colchester City Centre, it’s just a short walk from nearby parking. The atmosphere is relaxed and stylish, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a laid-back meal. The service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. The food from the starter to the main course was absolutely delicious, packed with flavour and clearly made with care. Everything from the presentation to the taste was spot on. If you’re in Colchester and looking for great food, top service, and a convenient location, Cuckoo Dough is definitely worth a visit. I’ll absolutely be coming back

Must “go to”Italian restaurant in Colchester town centre. The food was so delicious and the service was really great, too!” We ordered salmon spaghetti it was so yummy and I ate the whole thing, even though it was quite heavy for one person. King prawns were tender and went well with the sauce and with the breads. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal and for a drink. 😍😇

First time in Colchester and a friend recommended this place. It is a hidden gem with a warm and inviting ambiance. The service was attentive and genuinely friendly, thanks Mira! Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented, proving the kitchen knows its craft. For the quality of food and service, the prices are more than fair—definitely great value for money. Highly recommended!

I came in here with my son (3) and my husband. Can’t believe I have never been here before- food was lovely- we all had pizza and it is authentic Italian so tasty! My son had the teddy bear pizza it is big for a child portion so could easily share. Service was great the people are very friendly. Good music and cocktails looked great too. We will be coming back!

The food was so delicious. I and my family members visited Cuckoo Dough restaurant and we ordered prawn and calamari for starters, pasta and pizza for the main dish and biscoff cheese cake and Tiramisu for desert. The food was so delicious and tasty, and the portion size was very filling. The customer service was excellent and fantastic. The restaurant is beautiful and very clean. The location is in time and very perfect and it is very easy to find. I will recommend Cuckoo Dough to anyone that want to have good meal with great service. We will definitely visit Cuckoo Dough again 😁. Chioma Queen

During my recent adventure to Moto Pizza in Colchester, I was truly impressed by their innovative approach to dining. This isn't your average pizzeria; it's a bottomless pizza experience that allows you to sample an array of delicious slices. The concept is simple yet brilliant: as pizzas are freshly made right before your eyes, they come straight from the oven to your table, where friendly staff explain each unique topping and let you decide if you'd like a slice. The variety is astounding!
Tried for the first time and loved the place! From the minute we walked in the door we were so welcomed, Luke was so friendly and kind and helped get the pram inside. He explained everything about how it all works really well. Pizza was incredible, we’re all vegetarian so felt like we’d be super limited on options but there were actually so many options and not just basic vegetable ones. Got loads of slices for our £18.50 so felt worth it. Dessert pizza we tried was Nutella and we loved it. Great atmosphere, absolutely amazing staff (again Luke in particular was amazing) and good value for money. 4 year old loved it too, £6.50 for him to have a good few slices of pizza was also worth it! Will definitely be back with the whole family again!

As all you can eat pizza buffets go, this is first class. Exceptional quality pizza, delightful staff, reasonably priced and great music. Cannot fault it, second time we have been here. The staff on shift 6th of march lunchtime made us feel so welcome, really impressive experience today. Random comment but the toilets are great also, really nice design and very clean.
Tom R — Google review
We had a lovely evening at Moto Pizza celebrating friends’ joint birthdays. This restaurant is fantastic and never fails to impress and satisfy one’s pizza cravings. For £18.50 (dinner and weekends) or £13.50 (Tuesday-Friday lunch 12-4pm) you can enjoy bottomless pizza brought to your table, with a wide range of varied and interesting pizza toppings alongside more classic options such as Margherita and Pepperoni. Dips are charged as extra, however chilli oil is available on the table to add a bit of heat to your pizza. The staff are friendly and attentive, bringing round a different pizza flavour every five minutes or less. There is a green glass bottle on the table with fairy lights inside, this can be switched on and off to indicate to the staff when you would like to be offered pizza. I tried a range of pizza toppings on this visit including cheesy garlic bread, other flavours available included Bolognese, Pulled Pork and pizzas garnished with rocket and mascarpone on top. Dessert pizzas are also available for an extra charge, these consisting of Nutella and Biscoff pizzas with mini marshmallows which have been enjoyable when tried previously. If you are a fan of pizza this restaurant is a must try. I went to Gordon Ramsay’s Pizza Street in London a few years ago, the pizza at Moto Pizza is hands down the nicer pizza out of the two.
Louise — Google review
Moto Pizza in Colchester is a fun and modern dining experience that’s great for pizza lovers. The “unlimited pizza” concept is very appealing, you pay a set price, and their team brings out a rotation of freshly baked slices straight to your table. It’s a fantastic way to try different flavours, from the classics like margherita to more creative options. The crust is light and crispy, and the ingredients taste fresh and high-quality. The atmosphere is casual and trendy, with a cool, industrial style interior that gives it a relaxed vibe. It’s ideal for a casual dinner with friends and family or a laid-back date night. The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars is the service. While the staff were polite, the service was noticeably slow, even before the place got busy. There were longer than expected gaps between rounds of pizza. It’s understandable during peak hours but should be better when there is fewer people, it did take away slightly from the overall experience. That said, I would definitely come back. The food is great, the concept is fun, and I love that it offers something a little different in Colchester’s food scene.
Toosha A — Google review
Quality pizza with a fun premise, all you can eat with table side service. The chef's make whatever pizza they want, and they'll come around and offer you slices. It's a lot of fun and keeps it fresh to try so many different types. Staff is very friendly and they do a good job of serving each table equally. It's moderately priced, well worth it every once in a while. The lunch discount is great. If you can eat a lot you can certainly get your money's worth. They also do take away, walk in only. Less expensive than the all you can eat price if you know you'll have less than 1 whole pizza per person. They cook fast and in our experience we waited less than 10min for 2 pizzas.
Charlie P — Google review
One of the best pizza places I have ever been to. Love the concept of being able to try hot fresh slices of different kind of pizzas. Must have had at least 10 different kinds and that's all vegetarian as well 🤩 and all you can eat is definitely a big bonus. Lovely staff and lovely venue 🍕🍕🍕 next time defo gonna try the desert pizza
Darren M — Google review
I love this place, the staff are so helpful and quick and the pizza is top notch with really interesting combinations you do t normally get in most places with standard offering. Very much looking forward to coming back here! I didnt understand the bottomless pizza idea at first but basically it's all you can eat buffet but instead of going to get more pizza they bring it around the tables and ask if you want any. Insanely good value for money.
Jon L — Google review
My fiance is an absolute fanatic of pizza and this place has such a great, fresh, new idea, we are still talking about it weeks later. We were lucky we sat right by the kitchen and watched every single pizza be made and topped. They serve it straight out of the oven, come to your table, explain what it is and you can choose if want a slice or not. And like that, all the way until you can't no more! There were some classics like pepperoni and garlic bread and some great unexpected combinations too! We loved it, can't wait to go back.

Went with my partner last night and it didn’t disappoint, delicious food. You can tell the chef is passionate about their craft and is made with love. Also the waiter was very charming and friendly. Will definitely be going back!

Just wow!! What a fabulous dining experience. Our first visit but definitely not our last. Whenever in Colchester, we will come here! Very attentive waiter and chef. Absolutely delicious food, wine and company. What more can you ask for. What a little gem!

We had lunch here on a Saturday. This restaurant has great decor, almost feels like an Italian restaurant you’d expect to experience in Italy. The service was 10/10. Very attentive staff. All three courses came out in a decent time, piping hot food and very tasty. The mussels were so fresh ! The calzone was amazing also. Far better than the “mainstream” Italian restaurants in town.
Trafalgar R — Google review
We went here after exhausting ourselves at the Roman and Medieval festival. Any place where we could sit for a bit and get some food would have pleased us. However, it quickly became clear that we struck gold with Miseria. The staff from front of house to kitchen were nothing short of exceptional. They welcomed us and talked with us like we were old friends. The food was divine and such good value that I had to double check the prices. We're already looking forward to returning next year.

Had evening meal with wife on Friday. Firstly don't be put off by uninspiring outside because inside you get simple italian decor with superb quality family made food , fantastic service and very reasonable prices. Nice freindly quiet place unlike most other restaurants in locality which tend to be large and very noisy. Highly recommended if you like good food, service, prices and to be able to talk and hear yourselves whilst dining. Kind regards David Churchill

Enjoyed a nice meal booked at short notice on a wet Friday night in Colchester.Excellent food and friendly service. Nice authentic atmosphere. I particularly appreciated the background music of 60s Italian music. Beats all the chain faux Italian high street places. Good value too.

Lovely little family run authentic Italian restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly. The prices were reasonable. The red wine was delicious and the food was incredible. I can't say enough lovely things about this restaurant! We stumbled across it after a place we went to said they weren't serving food. I don't know why this place didn't show up in our search. Instantly we were met by a lovely server who asked if we had any allergies. When I said mushrooms he explained in detail that I could find a complete list of ingredients for their most popular dishes by using a bar code or in a notebook he provided to me. He said the kitchen would take my allergy very seriously and was very kind about it - clearly they care about their clientele. We ordered the cheese fondu starter and OH MY GOODNESS was it amazing! The thin, crispy, garlic bread pieces they serve with it were incredible (it turns out it is the same thing they use for pizza crust.) I could have eaten just the fondue and been thrilled. I also got the burrata carbonara and it was to die for! So delicious! My husband got the meat pizza which was spectacular. My 5 year old got the tomato pasta and said "this is the best pasta and tomato sauce I have ever had!" and ate the entire bowl - that literally has NEVER happened at a restaurant her entire life! The server we started with left half way through our meal but our new server was even nicer! Super cheerful, helpful, kind and attentive! He was so sweet to my daughter when she was done her dinner and wanted a dessert. They even made her a free "babycinno" which was frothy milk and chocolate powder - soooooo adorable (I forgot to take a picture which is sad). The little sunday they made for her was so cute. The kids menu is amazing! Super sweet and loads of options. They even have a tiny kids menu with baby portions so you don't have to get the full kid options. I have never seen that before and was so impressed! Clearly the person who owns this place has kids. The restaurant was immaculate! Super clean. Bright, beautifully decorated. It was a perfect lunch and if I lived in the UK/the area, it would be my go to place regularly! You can't go wrong here! They even give you a small taste of their yummy homemade lemonade when you arrive - soooo delicious. I can't recommend this place enough!

The service was good, the food and drinks tasted nice, the ambience was calm; but we weren't told before hand that the number of our group would attract an additional price.

Scott who was assigned to our table was amazing. He checked that we did not have allergies and provided a list and then catered to our specific needs where that was concerned. The Pizza was amazing! The best I've ever had. I highly recommend Ask Italian North Hill, Cholchester Town Centre.

A really good example of this chain, they have a really lovely space available this table at the front of the restaurant and a back room which is really nicely styled and a generous size garden area. Lovely to be able to eat out in the Sun. Would recommend the garlic chicken pizza, the good choice of wines and beers, very pleasant, staff, attentive and quick service

26/3/2025 Absolutely amazing team, beautiful fantastic food, and great cocktails. A massive Thank you to Scott for his help and amazing customer service and going the extra mile and kindness tonight, helping me organise an amazing night where i proposed to my now Fiancee. My favourite restaurant in Colchester. The staff and manager and his wife are all 10/10 at their job. The food is amazing every single time. If you want the best seafood in colchester then come here!

the starters were lovely, the turbot main was okay but was a bit bland. the steak was raw on either end but cooked in the middle which was a bit confusing but i suppose it’s not a steak restaurant so somewhat understandable. the tables were way too close together so it felt like we were dining with strangers.

Went for breakfast and was pretty quiet for around 10:00am. We each had a coffee and Eggs Royal and eggs florentine. Coffee was nice and strong the waiter quick to take our order. Food didn't take too long to arrive either and I was quite surprised by the size of the portions as I ordered a extra sausage just encase. Needless to say the food was very tasty and will definitely return to try some dinner as I heard the pasta dishes are supposed to be really nice.

Nestled in the heart of Colchester, DOUGH&co Woodfired Pizza is a delightful spot that marries traditional pizza-making techniques with contemporary flair. While you can only place orders online, this charming eatery is conveniently located near Sir Isaacs Artisan Coffee. Renowned for its consistently delicious pizzas, DOUGH&co prides itself on using a mix of authentic Italian and locally sourced ingredients to create mouthwatering dishes.
To start off, I am AMAZED by this place’s service, food and atmosphere. Starting off with the service, our waitress was a lovely lady named ‘Karolina’. My partner and I had ordered the “couples night in” deal. Which consists of 2 pizzas/pasta, 2 dips, 2 soft drinks and 1 side. Karolina, our waitress, was amazing in the way she gave us time to order, allowed us to order cocktails instead of beer/wine and her general interaction with us. She is lovely and is full of joy and made the general experience really enjoyable and for that I have to go back there again! Now following this, the food was phenomenal. I personally never had DOUGH&co, but my partner did and he knew what was coming. I was mind blown by my buffalo chicken pizza and with how it wasn’t too greasy, to thick and sickly, but rather it was flavourful, light and didn’t make me feel sick after. My partner really enjoyed his Spanish pizza and the smokiness from the pizza was delightful. The overall atmosphere was enjoyable and something I’m looking forward to return to!!

Nice place to go after a day of shopping. The restaurant looks very rustic (a lot of wood). The appetizers were very tasty. Especially the avocado salad. I keep forgetting that garlic bread is not garlic bread in the UK. It’s really a garlic pizza. I had the caprese salad which was small but nice. Our server was very nice and very good.

Absolutely amazing pizza. Stone baked. The buffalo chicken has a nice kick to it. The children's deal of mini pizza, ice cream and squash is good value. The dining space isn't huge so booking is recommended. Also as it got busier it was a bit noisy. However it was a great experience

We had a lovely reception meal there and would definitely recommend it. Karolina and her husband jointly organised a memorable, beautifully decorated, intimate reception venue. Their quality of food and service was exceptional!!! She gave us her time weeks in advance with assisting us in setting up a menu catering for adults and children, vegetarians, and vegans all catered for on a great budget. They have just made us their loyal lifelong customers Thank you for giving our parents a beautiful and memorable wedding reception venue!!! Siyam & Sheena

I think I have finally found a good-quality go-to. This is the best burger place I have ever ordered from. Not to mention the amazing taste but look at the size of that burger! If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out! The staff was really kind and helpful when ordering through the phone, also the delivery driver was kind and quick and didn't even want to take the tip I offered! I mean we will definitely order again, my partner was starving after work and he couldn't finish the burger that's how massive it was. The doughnuts were still warm and delicious. And my nachos came so packed it looked like a whole main meal instead of a side! They are sure to expect us to come in sometime soon.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon with my girlfriend. We were the only ones there being late afternoon. We chose to sit out underneath the pergola. Garlic bread with cheese The Classic One The Pepperoni One Garlic Butter dip Delicious wood fired oven pizzas. Fluffy crusts, vibrant tomato sauce and oozey cheese. Good food, a fun time had by all.

First time eating here tonight, will be returning. Amazing food, nearly every table was occupied but was calm quiet and could hear your companion well. Lovely waitress who made the experience. Believe her name was Namente. Was quick and friendly without being overbearing. Only wish the card machine had the option to tip on the card as we didn't have a lot of cash on us so the tip was not reflecting the service.

We were walking past the restaurant and felt drawn in by the beautiful lights and relaxed atmosphere, so ordered the 'couples night in' deal, x2 pizza or pasta, x1 side, x2 dips and x2 beers as a takeaway for just £36, which was all made fresh to order right in front of us. We had the bruscetta, Buffalo Chicken pizza and the High Protein pizza. Every dish was amazing, the ingredients were so fresh and no grease at all. The staff were really friendly, kind and went out of their way to be helpful, perfect customer service! We'll definitely be back and would love to dine in next time.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Colchester, Al Pacino Italy stands out not only for its delectable Italian cuisine but also for its prime location adjacent to the historic Colchester Castle Park and museum. This charming restaurant boasts ample space both indoors and outdoors, with a delightful terrace that sets the stage for a relaxing evening under the stars. Upon entering, guests are greeted by warm and friendly staff who create an inviting atmosphere complemented by soothing Italian melodies playing softly in the background.
Checked out the Special Lunchtime Menu today, outstanding value for money. We enjoyed all three generous sized courses, delicious. Will definitely return to check out Evening Menu, my partner was complimentary about her cocktail as well.

We sat in the gardens but no one showed up to pick up the order, so I went into the restaurant to order, I found a very boring staff there. After another15 min the food was finally on the table but a waffle the ice cream was out of date, but when I said it to the waitress she started pretending she didn't understand…

Delicious fresh food, and lovely atmosphere. Staff were really accommodating. We visited for my birthday and the resteraunt came out with the most authentic piece of tiramasu signing happy birthday, really lovely of them! Can't wait to go back and try their pizza

The restaurant is situated close to the museum. On entering, I was welcomed by the most pleasant waiters I have ever met with lovely Italian songs playing in the background, the interior is nicely decorated with rare exotic pieces and a pleasant aroma, and the temperature was warm despite the harsh cold outside making it cozy and homely, it is an amazing spot for a romantic candle dinner. On Saturdays, they have a saxophonist play all through the evening. Meals are very tasty and it is worth every penny spent. You can have your birthday party, child christening, and even a wedding reception as the ground floor can seat about 45 to 60 people. It is the best Italian restaurant in Colchester and its environs, a visit will convince you.

Very nice restaurant & varied menu. The staff very friendly & were happy to modify a dish from the menu to my friend's preference. Good portion sizes. My only grumble was the food arrived at the table luke warm and as we had waited a little while for the order to arrive we went with it. We went on a Wednesday evening and it was quiet with only 4 other busy tables. Overall though I would recommend & would return.

Overall experience was present. Good atmosphere with good service and freshly made food. The food was tasty and as per menu. Advice to book in advance as very busy. The choices for Vegetarian are limited and non for Vegans. The place is located centrally and attracts a trendy crowd. The place was moderately expensive. Choices for desserts are limited especially if you are a veg/ vegan.

What a shame. Food was good, pizza arrived with different toppings from menu but was quickly changed. Priced rather fairly for what we had I thought. Service was bad, we were seated inside, next to the door, so I asked if we could move (inside area was empty) which was greeted with a huff. As we sat I asked if we could order some drinks, huffed. Didn’t get the chance to order another round as we couldn’t find the waitress. No hand towels or dryers in the toilet I used. Had to go to the bar to request the bill. Bit of an off day perhaps.

McDonald's is a classic fast-food institution that has been delighting customers with its iconic burgers and fries for decades. Known for its commitment to diversity and respect, this beloved chain has seen dedicated delivery partners working tirelessly to ensure orders are fulfilled efficiently, even during challenging times like the UK lockdown. While visiting one of their locations, patrons may find the staff friendly and accommodating; however, navigating with a buggy can be tricky due to limited seating on the ground floor.
It's usually pretty good. I go there quite often. I've only had one or two minor issues and that's like after 100+ trips. It's pretty solid.

Looked pretty grimy from the street front, with food on the floor and rubbish on the tables. The wait times were long but the staff were pleasant. The food looked like the pictures, and we all enjoyed it when it came. The disabled toilet on ground floor was taped off, the gents upstairs smelled pleasant but had no mirrors and the floor needed mopping.

I work in Colchester as a bus driver. I had a 20 minute stand time, more than adequate I thought to order breakfast. Mcmuffin meal ordered. 3 minutes later my drink is made and 2 minutes after that my mcmuffin is bagged. Staff dithered and then proceeded to fulfill just about every order except mine. I wait a full 15 minutes (now making myself late), tried to attract staff attention, no joy. It wasn't even busy! I had no choice but to walk out to continue my route (late) Thank you McDonald's. £5.09 of my hard earned for nothing. It's a good job you don't run breweries....

A cashier named Lucy (blonde woman with a ponytail) gave my order to some random lady without even checking with her. I had to wait for my order to be remade by another cashier. Lucy girl didn’t even apologise for her mistake and ignored me altogether. I don’t think people like her should work with clients… ruined my day and absolutely strange behaviour. First time something like that happening to me at McDonalds. Big thank you to another female cashier who kindly apologised three times not even for her mistake and redid my order in 5 min

So there is extra seating upstairs which is good but it was quite full. I put my order through on the app, but it said there was a problem and removed the whole order. So I tried again but once again it removed my order. So we went to Greggs.

It's just so small for a city centre McDonald's. It's very busy but only has two stands. The stairs are really steep and there's no lifts making it hard for prams and impossible for disabled people. There are much better McDonald's out of town. My burger was a shambles too and the Lettuce brown and the chips chewy.

Bakery
This bakery, known as Greggs, is a popular chain that offers a variety of baked goods including breads, savory snacks, sandwiches, and sweet treats. Located in Colchester on the high street and another road, it provides all the expected items at affordable prices. The size of this establishment allows for plenty of seating options, accommodating large groups even during busy times like Saturday lunchtime. With counters located at both ends of the bakery, customers can easily find what they are looking for.
Breakfast at a Greggs is always a good start to any day. This branch in Colchester has plenty of seating upstairs, so I guaranteed a seat. Service this morning with a smile, and a tasty bacon roll yo accompany my coffee!

Not much choice for vegans or vegetarians especially those allergic to certain things, the service is ok but rushed. I have to clean trays when using to bring something up stairs, also the tables are never cleaned and the toilets are a mess
Nadine B — Google review
The shop is spacious but unfortunately, there is no clear sign how to queue. People who bought bakery and drinks were forced to stick to the same queue, making the process utterly slow and confusing. Visitors who are not familiar with this practice, like myself, were thought to be queue-jumping but we were not aware of the random people standing next to the fridge and are actually "sort of" a queue. The shopping experience is disappointing and not enjoyable at all. The staff at the till also chatted for too long even when there's a queue, holding the queue off. As there are no signs or stanchions to guide the shoppers to properly control the crowd, if you go there, make sure you stand from the fridge or your will be deemed queue-jumping and get frowned upon. (It's not your fault but the shop's!)

I ordered a cheese and honey mustard toastie today as part of a meal deal. Disappointed is not the word I would use as the toasties had loads of honey mustard inside but all I could see of the cheese was a small bit of melted cheese on the outside in the middle of 1 slice of bread. Terrible. Please see pictures.

Nestled in the heart of Colchester, Ci Voleva is a delightful Italian restaurant that embodies the true spirit of traditional Italian dining. As soon as you step through its doors, you're enveloped in a warm and welcoming ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home. The talented chefs here are passionate about their craft, creating dishes that are both delicious and beautifully presented. After hearing rave reviews online, I decided to experience it for myself and was thoroughly impressed.
A lovely environment. The food was spot on (I had the seafood linguine), the service was incredibly friendly, and the overall atmosphere was positive and welcoming. The place is quite small, but cosy, and I'd recommend booking! The waiting time was short, and they made a special occasion very special. We even got a shot of Limoncello on the house! Overall, if you're looking for a warming atmosphere with fantastic Italian food, this is the place to be!

We had a lovely evening at Ci Voleva, it was the perfect venue for a romantic first date. The restaurant was small and cosy with interesting décor, what really stood out were the friendly and attentive staff members. I was complimented that I looked like Adele, which was really funny and made us laugh. I reckon Adele would be happy with the food at this restaurant. The menu was nice and reasonably priced with the Italian classics of pasta and pizza alongside a small selection of main courses. We were offered the dessert menu following our meal though were too well fed to sample this as well though gladly would have if we had space. There were Italian breadsticks on our table as well which was a nice added extra. For our starter we ordered the Antipasto ‘Ci Voleva’ sharing board for two, this was fantastic and well sized to share. The nicest parts for me were the burrata and green olives. The bread, meats and cheeses were very nice as well. The only ways in which this could be nicer would be to have a balsamic vinegar dip for the bread and Italian salami rather than Spanish chorizo. For my main I went for the Traditional Rigatoni Carbonara, the staff were very accommodating in my request to change this to spaghetti initially, then pappardelle. This dish was lovely and was different to other carbonaras that I’ve tried in Italian restaurants. Both main courses were also garnished with parsley and Italian hard cheese which was a nice touch. The atmosphere was really nice in the restaurant which brought on holiday vibe feelings, there was traditional Italian music playing at one point. The staff were happy for us to stay and talk for a little while after our meal which was really nice, given the small amount of tables in the venue. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to this restaurant to try some more of their dishes, in particular their pizzas.

AMAZING!! truly a hidden gem, Real and delicious food, some of the BEST and I mean best pasta of my life, I got the salmon pasta, the quality cannot compare to anything! The atmosphere was very nice, staff were very polite and on point with everything, chefs came out and spoke to us at the end of the meal, the hospitality setting was just on point, best meal I’ve ever had out!! There is no signage about student discount but they did give us an offer on our bowl even asked if we were students! Went in with the expectation of paying full price but they were very generous, portion sizes was perfect, anymore it would have been too much, less would have been too small and great value for how much it does cost, will defo be going again. Thank you for an amazing meal and environment!

A very small restaurant with about 20 seats but absolutely perfect food for a good price. Both the pasta with seafood and a pasta al salmone were delicious and our son had a very tasty pizza. The service was convival, as was the atmosphere. We really enjoyed our meal. Most certainly recommended!

I’ve been here a couple of times, most recently for my wife’s birthday. Both times I’ve really enjoyed the experience! All of the staff are lovely, the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is good, with the option to sit outside on a hot day. The medium pizza (photo 1) is actually quite large and very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. The XL pizza (photo 3) is enormous, so make sure you’re hungry! The waiting staff will happily pack up leftovers to take away. If you’ve got room, it’s well worth trying the tiramisu, it’s delicious!

Excellent little restaurant. Good service, great food and nice little ending with the limoncello. Pricing for the food is great, some of the best pasta I've had in the UK (even better than many places in london). Would definitely recommend to any and all.

Received multiple orders from this place through Uber Eats. I haven't received a straw a single time, even though I had beverages that require one.... One of the most basic things, they even have to PLUG the hole the straw goes into for it to be delivered through Uber Eats, but apparently that doesn't trigger the thought of adding straws to the bag..... Also even though the delivery driver was speedy, the ice in one of the drinks was already completely gone.
Mandy B — Google review
Staff always forget my straw for delivery orders. Cannot drink a Frappuccino without a straw which just makes my whole order pointless. Absolute waste of money when I’m not even given the basic utensils needed to consume my drink. Can’t even get hold of the store to remind them of something they should be doing on autopilot anyway. It’s literal common sense to provide a straw when making a beverage that requires one.

Sainsbury's also houses other businesses like Specsavers and Argos, offering eye tests and various products such as kids' scooters.

First (and probably last) time using the newly positioned click and collect. Signage from the entrance to it is remarkably small and easily missed. Who's bright idea was it to relocate it from an area of the carpark that's hardly used to a very busy area and removing loads of parent and child places to do so. Upon arrival you need to press a button and speak name and order number into a machine - obviously the order number is a nice long 10 digit number. Cars backed up queueing whilst waiting for orders to be collected and packed into cars. No longer get a stack of empty crates so that you don't need to bend to the ground. Can't think of anything positive to say about the new location unless you need to use the inpost lockers at the same time.
Marion M — Google review
New collection position and service at Stanway store is a disgrace. Only two bags located in main car park. This is no longer a convenient service but now a total inconvenience. Previous location and service was fantastic. No consideration for customers. I don’t normally post a review but represents a total lack of respect for us customers
Steve P — Google review
Just realised that they have removed a load of parent and child spaces to make a drive thru click and collect. Great idea to get rid of a handful of spaces that were already a struggle to find given that there wasn't many in the first place! This drive thru could have been done and the other end of the car park where no one wants to park as it is leaving parents with kids better parking options.
Mike S — Google review
This Sainsbury’s is large and not cramped inside. However, the car park entrance is horrible for cars and pedestrians. (I drive and walk there, so experience both). From a pedestrian’s point of view you can enter from the somerford road side reasonably easily, if you don’t mind walking in the mud to avoid the haze that surrounds the smoking shelter. From the petrol station side, you get the zebra crossing across the only entrance/exit to the car park. To be fair many drivers do see you waiting or about to cross, but some don’t and you either stand and wait, and wait, and wait …… or as you start across a car drives at you. Two reactions from drivers as they fail to see (hit) you: many apologetic waves, or a lot of obscene signs and gesticulations. The trouble is that the roadway is narrow so there is no room for a car to swerve out of the way without hitting another car or a post.
Kate D — Google review
It’s disappointed that the breakfast corner is closed. No notice displayed outside. You only find it’s closed after you parked, go inside and walked upstairs. What a waste of time!
Alice W — Google review
Sainsbury's are rolling out facial recognition in their stores. Sainsbury's are a private company that want to harvest and store a persons biometric data without oversight, this is a gross invasion of privacy and there are several examples of this technology misidentifying people, causing public humiliation. I will not be spending any more money in any of your stores.
J B — Google review

The cheapest shop in colchester, located more or less in the city centre. Good quality of products. They does not have any parking for bikes, which is minor fault. upd: it is still 5 stars, cheap products with self-service is an efficient combo.

Staff brilliant, good value for money, obsessed with the middle aisle. Only downside is a bloke who's always walking about in the car park asking shoppers for money especially when they come out of the store
Nadine B — Google review
Friendly staff, a majority of my shopping was done here whilst at university, I believe that this is one of the friendliest shops in Colchester for student shopping. Car park is not great as received parking ticket for being there for over an hour and a half. Shame about the down and outs that ruin the presentation of the shop. Especially the man that smells very bad and hovers around the car park. Another instance that put me off the shop was one of the young people that works here asked me to check my bag even tho it was empty and I’ve been here for about a year and a half now shopping. Does feel a bit rude as I am a student not going to shoplift when I live next door.

This aldi seems to be very bad at customer services. They often ask customer to open their bags so that staff can check in case anything has been stolen. If you visit this aldi, do not wear gym wear as they are very stereotypical. And will only deem a search upon someone wearing tracksuit bottoms appose to someone wearing jeans.

Just a quick thank you for heroic looking after my uncle today. He is diabetic and may have had a low sugar moment and came over a bit dizzy. He said you had tried to call an ambulance without success. Difficult for you but I am not so sure you should have let him drive home but we miraculously met him as we came in to the store. One of your ladies was looking after him and taking him back to his car. I was able to chauffeur him home safely. Thanks for your efforts.

Helen F — Google review
The store is usually open until midnight, arrived today just before 22:00 and was immediately bombarded with employees telling me to hurry up because they’re about to close… five, maybe six employees told us to hurry up from the minute I walked and the security guard even tried to usher me out of the door but I was adamant I only needed teabags. I appreciate they were closing but not a single person there was polite about it, an employee even told me to hurry up as I got to the self checkout as if I wasn’t about to pay and leave. Rude, unhelpful and downright disrespectful towards customers.
R A — Google review
On Apple Maps it states this store is open until midnight and I have been to the store around that time. However, tonight I turned up admittedly at 9:58 and was told the store was closing in a few minutes and I need to be quick by the lady on the door. As soon as I stepped into the store every 3 steps I was stopped by someone telling me the store is closed and I need to be quick or leave; it was crazy they literally saw their other colleague tell me and came over and told me again within seconds? They massively slowed me down when all I wanted was a single item. The security guard rudely told me the store was shut, blocked my path in the aisle and told me I needed to leave. When I went to the checkouts the lady told me to hurry up despite there being loads of other costumers with baskets full of stuff and I was literally at the till with my 1 item in hand about to pay. I was in and out by the time the shop closed at 10pm. Staff need to not be so rude and why was I let in if I was going to be told to leave immediately? Doesn't make sense they obviously need to communicate between themselves and the opening times need to be updated!!!! Reminds me why I don't come here if I can avoid it......

It’s overall a very good store with a wide variety of products! I can find some really good produce here. Only disadvantage is that the club card does not give that many discounts and fruits go bad kind of quickly 🥲
Vasiliki K — Google review
I live within walking distance of Tesco, Lidl and Waitrose, but I come here more regularly than the others because there's more of a selection of items, and having a clubcard makes a difference. My only gripe is that the bakery malfunctions more regularly than it should so fresh bread isn't always available, and same with malfunctions on the freezer section, although not as regular. Day staff are always helpful and friendly.
L C — Google review
The worst Tesco I've been in my life keep changing things around confusing customer to small to shop even though they think that's big and to busy in here not enough tills and workers on the tills and workers there are rude and stuck up some of them don't go here go Aldi

Subway is a popular casual dining spot where you can customize your own sandwiches and salads, making it an ideal choice for those who prioritize health-conscious eating. With a vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff, like the attentive server Afonso, you're sure to enjoy your experience. While the food quality could use some improvement, Subway remains a go-to destination for a quick and satisfying meal on the go. So why not indulge in something delicious that suits your taste?
I came here when I was in first year (2020) living at quays and the service and quality was… pretty terrible. Now, 5 years later, my girlfriend is living at quays and, frankly, wow. They’ve really turned this place around. Service and quality is now excellent, easily the best subway in Colchester, and I know my subways. Special thanks to Alfonso who is always friendly and makes my sandwiches just how I like ‘em, and the guy who just made my sandwich whose name I do not know who is also great. Frankly all the staff are great. I’ve been in so often they actually know my order now which is a little sad on my part, but, hey, keep up the good work guys :)

I love coming to this subway. The sandwich experts Ram and Ishan make the subs just like you want. The best you can get close to the uni and this place tends to your instant cravings. Love coming here and the behaviour of the staff are amazing.
Sayantika R — Google review
I am a regular customer and when I am served by Ram it makes my experience all the more better. He is professional and always gives me recommendations that I am not able to deny. I highly recommend sandwiches prepared by him as they are apt in flavour and the dressings and salads are also in a perfect amount. Looking forward for more

Hello sir , I would like to address you my experience for my today’s sub. I ordered rotisserie chicken sub. The ingredients were fine, but the sandwich was really poorly made. Hardly any sauce or salad was added, making it dry and disappointing. I am a regular customer and never had this experience before but today’s order was very disappointing from my end . I hope you will get some better sandwich artist . Thank you

Was just expecting a normal service on a normal day. Came in, the person working on the till was named Eshan. He brightened up my day, gave me an excellent service, was conversating and had humour. You do not get that in 99% of shops, it just regular service. This was beyond expectations. Brilliant service, I will definitely come again because of Eshan.

The service was good, the food was amazing too I would recommend this branch
BAM P — Google review
Esshan has been present everyone I ordered and he was always very polite and quick with his servings.

We showed up late, but honestly staffs looked even more desperate to leave than we were. Ingredients were just thrown together, sauces casually squeezed…

Marks and Spencer has been making waves on social media, particularly with its scrumptious offerings like the 420-calorie pizza that TikToker @readymealqueen raved about, calling it "Banging!" This delightful treat has captured the attention of many, amassing nearly 300,000 views in just a minute-long video. The store is known for providing quality food to hospital staff and visitors alike, even if it's a smaller location where stock can sometimes be limited.
Always friendly and helpful staff. A great asset whilst working. A small shop but produce always fresh and good sell by dates. The bakery is yummy x

18/11/23 went for a coffee and scone. Scone was dry.... tables were piled high with used plates ect. No one was clearing. Wanted another coffee 3.30pm manager closed ordering points. No apology and was rude. On a good note the coffee was excellent

I brought 2 bottles of Snow globe gin, and when I got home only one of them lit up so on Sun 25th I headed to town to find you haven’t got any left, so on this Sunday I went again and spoke to a very nice lady who told me they had once again ran out, but she said I could go I could take it back to any M and S store and get it exchanged. So on my way home from the Hospital where I work I went to the M&S by the park and ride, they had some I was so pleased, so I took it to the till with my bottle of gin and my receipt to be told they couldn’t exchange it as they only sold M&S food and were a BP garage so couldn’t exchange it anything brought in a M&S shop. I was furious as they only had to swap it over but they wouldn’t even listen to what I had to say. Now with the lock down I won’t be able to change it, it’s so disappointing.

Great croissants, freshly made 👌 Donna was really helpful 😀 excellent customer service 👏 👍
Dionysios V — Google review
Thanks for providing hospital staff, patients and visitors with all the lovely food. It is a small M&S and sometimes stock does run low but it's still a luxury!
