The Church of Our Lady, located in Bruges, Belgium, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture with a soaring tower that reaches 115.6 meters high. Dating back to the 13th century, it holds great historical and artistic significance. The church is home to several notable art pieces, including Michelangelo's 'Madonna and Child,' a rare work that left Italy during the artist's lifetime.
A trip to Bruges usually conjures images of colourful centuries old buildings, the most popular of which are found in The Markt or Market Square.
However, for my 2nd visit to the city, I requested a friend to bring me to the statue of the "Madonna of Bruges" located in the Church of Our Lady. This Michelangelo sculpture was prominently featured in the movie "Monuments Men" as one of the art treasures looted by Nazi Germany.
The moment I entered the church, I was super excited as it has been on my bucket list since 2014. To pay homage to the Virgin Mary is part of the Devotion of a Catholic. To see the sculpture of Michelangelo is an art lover's cherished desire. To be near an object with historical significance is top wish for every student of history. Thus, it was truly a dream fulfilled for me to see the Madonna.
The Church of Our Lady (Dutch: Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) is a Roman Catholic church in Bruges, Belgium, dating mainly from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its 115.6-metre-high (379 ft) tower remains the tallest structure in the city and the third tallest brickwork tower in the world. The tower can be nicely seen from the canals during a boat tour.
Just like in any gothic church, the interior is splendid. The stained-glass windows are beautiful with ornate decorations and with a sense of mystery. I was surprised to see open burial stone coffins with paintings or markings inside. Truly bizarre. In contrast, the ornately decorated resting places of Mary of Burgundy and her father were pleasant surprises.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially for Catholics, lovers of history, and the arts.

Stepping inside this church is an awe-inspiring experience. The scale of the architecture is simply breathtaking, with soaring ceilings and a real sense of historic grandeur.
The church is filled with incredible works of art, from masterpiece paintings to intricate sculptures. The stained-glass windows are particularly beautiful, filling the space with colored light and creating a truly peaceful atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, art, and stunning architecture.
Amazing artwork - paintings, exquisitely carved wooden pulpit and confessionals and the treasure of Bruges, Madonna and Child. Worth every penny to get into the paid area. Even if you are not strongly religious, the artwork is awe inspiring and worth it for the history and the beauty.
This is a must-see see church when visiting Bruges. The church is famous for housing a Michelangelo sculpture of Madonna with child. Entrance into the church is free but you have to purchase a ticket to view the sculpture. The church tower is the tallest structure in the city and 3rd tallest brick tower in the world. Take time to admire the flying butresses that support the massive tower.
What an amazing church, not just for Michelangelo's sculpture, but all the history and intricacies. Don't miss out on it! I would definitely visit again.

Beguinage 'Ten Wijngaerde' is a serene complex that was once occupied by the Beguines, a group of religious women dedicated to their faith. After the last Beguine passed away in 2013, the movement ceased to exist. Today, visitors can explore the grounds featuring open green spaces, gardens, a 17th-century church, and a small museum showcasing the life of these women. The tranquil convent garden is now inhabited by nuns of the St.
I’ve been here several times during spring and also summer. To be honest, spring is munch prettier as you will see flowers blooming instead of just green grass in summer.
It’s very peaceful historic Béguinage. We will be surrounded by those white houses so it make you feel calm and make it’s quite popular to take pictures.
There is a few signs to keep silence and not step on grass. Let’s follow those rules so everyone can still enjoy it.

Begijnhof in Bruges is a peaceful courtyard tucked behind a simple gate, offering a quiet serene walk through their gardens. It was originally founded in the 13th century as a community for Beguines lay religious women who lived together in devotion without taking formal vows like nuns. These women led independent lives, often working as nurses or teachers, and the Begijnhof gave them a safe and structured place to live.
Today, the whitewashed houses and tranquil garden still reflect that sense of simplicity and reflection. A small chapel sits at the heart of the grounds, and swans drift quietly along the nearby canal. It is not just a historical site, it still houses Benedictine nuns.
Beautiful, peaceful place to walk around away from the hustle of the tourist streets. There are signs to ensure you keep quiet and respectful of the area which helps the overall atmosphere.

Minnewater Park, also known as the Lake of Love, is a serene public green space in Brugge. It features the picturesque Minnewater Lake and the gatehouse of a former castle. The park is a hidden gem located just outside the Brugge train station and offers a delightful surprise for visitors. While many tourists head straight to the historic center, taking a detour to Minnewater Park first is highly recommended.

Minnewater Park surrounds the Minnewater Lake or the Lake of Love. It is a romantic spot and ideal for romance, family time or picnic. One can walk or take a horse carriage rideto the Bruges Market Square or Belfry from Minnewater Park. It has postcard perfect scenic beauty and curated gardens and lush green lawns. Great views during Fall or Autums season.
Bruges is a beautiful city with delightful old buildings and lots of tourists. We stayed at the motorhome stop on the canal and the short walk to the city centre brought us through Minnewater Park. A lovely peaceful green place in the middle of the city with some spectacular views over the water.

It’s soooooo romantic when walking along the river. We were there in winter. Not too much tourists (of course there were still some, but not crowd indeed). There was such a silent small town and it brought us back to the old days. It seems we were going into the cartoon scene. This was such a wonderful & fantastic tour in Belgium. We liked this place soooo much and this must be a “must visit” when travelling in Belgium. This is even more impressive than Brussels to be honest.

Probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been! Definitely worth getting g a guided tour for all of the wonderful stories. We had a guy called Jan I’m afraid I can’t remember the company we booked with but he was great!
Must visit if you are in Bruges for the serene and beautiful lake view with a legend. You can take beautiful shots in front of the lake. Legend has it that you can make your love eternal by kissing on the bridge or get your wish fulfilled by bringing a lock and putting it on the bridge.
This place is beyond beautiful. You must watch the #sunrise at this park.

Beautiful, picturesque bridge overlooking part of the city, however was absolutely swarmed with tourists when I visited. There were around thirty or so people trying to get on this tiny bridge all at once. Kinda makes you feel sorry for the locals that this is what they have to deal with on a daily basis.
It is a subtle but romantic gem of Bruges, built in the early 20th century. Although it is one of the newest bridges in the city, exudes an air of an older romance — brick and stone, historic architectural elements and scenes that look like they came out of a fairy tale.

This place features in the film ‘In Brugge’. It’s a wonderful and small open area, with playground, bandstand, fountain with pond and ample green space to have picnics and a good amount of benches if you just want to relax and not chase the world.

Not only is this beautiful park mentioned in the iconic movie In Bruges, it’s serene and hosts some of the most wonderful events featuring local food growers, gift makers and beer brewers. They also sometimes have musicians but check out the park whether or not there’s an event as it’s beautiful even all on its own.
A peaceful and well kept garden in the heart of the city. It features benches, shaded corners, and open green areas where people can rest, read, or simply enjoy some quiet time. Toward the back there is a small children’s playground, making the space comfortable for families as well as individuals who want a calm urban break.

This hidden gem boasts an extensive selection of unique beers, including craft beers on tap from De Struise Brouwers, making it a haven for beer enthusiasts.
This was a great little place for tapas and beer. We received a recommendation from our local tour guide earlier in the day who said that this place caters to locals and tourist alike. Taking his recommendation turned out to be a great idea. We tried three different tapas and three different beers and I was more impressed after each item came out. Great food, great beer, great atmosphere, great service. I’ll be back.

We went to the bar for drinks and dinner. Amazing place. Really great food with a fantastic menu full of great choices for almost every taste. Everything we tried was delicious and we'll prepared. They also had an interesting selection of beers with lots to choose and again something for everyone and every taste. On top of this all, the staff were fun, polite, efficient and very welcoming. A truly all-round great experience. I wish we had visited it more than once. Lots still on the menu that we wanted to order.

Fabulous little restaurant serving amazing sharing plates. All the dishes we had were superb, and such a variety. Also a really nice cosy relaxed vibe.
It was busy and we hadn't booked (I suggest you do as its popular!). But the staff fitted us in an hour later, which was fine and well worth the wait!

We stopped in for a drink whilst walking around the city. Service was excellent and helpful with advice with what beers to have from the extensive menu! Wife and I had a brilliant experience here. Great selection of beers, and good quality food at a reasonable price. The bartender, Ray, was really welcoming and knowledgeable and made it a highlight for us.
So glad we found this off the beaten path, hidden gem of a bar! Great bottle of wine and we ordered half the menu…amazing shareable apps. Young, friendly, energetic staff. Great atmosphere. Would be back again tomorrow if we were staying in Bruges.

Bistro Zwart Huis is a captivating establishment nestled in the heart of Bruges, housed in a 15th-century black mansion that seamlessly blends Gothic architecture with a touch of whimsy. The interior boasts high ceilings, wooden beams, iron latticework, and stained glass windows, creating an enchanting ambiance. This stylish bar and restaurant offers bistro-style Belgian cuisine featuring generous portions of Flemish stews, succulent steaks, and even exotic meats like kangaroo.
I visited for dinner at 6:30 PM, while the live music was scheduled to start at 8:30 PM. The beverage selection was excellent—I enjoyed three different Belgian beers, with La Chouffe being the standout. My wife opted for champagne and a well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc.
For appetizers, we tried the mushroom toast and cheese croquettes. The mushroom toast had good flavor, but I believe it would have been better served on higher-quality bread rather than standard sandwich bread. The cheese croquettes were enjoyable, though they had a slightly pre-made texture.
For the main course, I had the sole, which was outstanding—the best dish of the evening. It was so good that I completely forgot to take a photo!
Overall, the food was honest and well-prepared, and the drink selection was excellent. Although we left before the live music due to other commitments, the ambiance was a highlight. I particularly appreciated the retro decor and high ceilings, which added to the venue’s charm. Service was attentive and efficient.
I would certainly recommend this place and would consider returning, perhaps next time to enjoy the live music!

I visited this restaurant 10 years ago and had a fantastic experience, which led me to book again, particularly because the website advertised live music on Friday evenings featuring local artists. Unfortunately, upon arrival, there was no live music, and the atmosphere was quite lackluster. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, we were seated between two other tables, creating a cramped dining experience. Interestingly, the couple seated next to us mentioned they had also booked expecting live music.
The food was mediocre. We ordered the beef stew, which had good quality meat but was served lukewarm.
Overall, it was a disappointing evening. While I understand the experience might differ during peak season, the website's promotion of live music was misleading and left us dissatisfied.

We visited Zwart Huis during our trip to Bruges, and it turned out to be one of the highlights! The atmosphere is truly special — dim lighting, live jazz (or great music), and a stylish interior in a beautiful historic building. The food was outstanding: the meat was cooked perfectly, and gave a great insight into Belgian cuisine. The service was super friendly and attentive without being intrusive, but also very welcoming and cosy, as if you were visiting old friends. A perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a dreamy evening with friends over wine. Would absolutely come back! ❤️
We came here for dinner and ordered a Caesar salad and goat's cheese salad. The goat's cheese salad was absolutely beautiful, probably one of the best I've had. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel at home which was great.

Lovely restaurant with a little bar area. Great service, excellent food! Beware large portions! We had a starter and a main each but probably should have had a starter to share, as 3 out of 4 of us couldn't finish our main even though it was delicious! Croquettes & Belgian stew were fantastic! Delicious food it took a while for us to get our food but it was worth the wait. We seem to have been maybe forgotten? The décor is fantastic the fireplace adds so much to the ambiance of the whole place. One derful music playing kept the place lively, very crowded when we were there as they told us it is like that all the time!

The park offers a tranquil setting for leisurely strolls and romantic picnics, with hundreds of swans gracefully gliding on the lake adding to the enchanting ambiance. The iconic Lovers Bridge spans the canal, where legend has it that sharing a kiss with your beloved ensures everlasting love.
It's a lovely, charming, and romantic park. The bridges provide delightful views of the impressive manor house across the lake, and the walk is very pleasant overall. It's also quite clean, and there are geese swimming gracefully in the lake.

We could not have been happier with our decision to book here for our first trip to Belgium from the states. Our suite was impeccable, from the massive bathroom to the comfy bed and the warm fireplace to retreat to after a chilly day exploring the city. Our host, Anna, was warm and welcoming and provided the most exquisite breakfast each morning.

Let us start with the good. The location is wonderful and they serve a terrific breakfast. The bad was were were there at a very hot time. We were on the upper floor. There is a book in the room that tells you not to open the windows at night because we are on the canal and there are mosquitoes. The air conditioning did not work. It was acknowledged by the staff, but when we contacted the owner she told us that it did work. She then told us to open the windows, but it was very warm out which is why we needed the air-conditioning. We were with friends and their air worked just fine, so that proved to us that it was only our room. Not only did no cold air come out the vents, no air came out the vents. When we were checking out after 3 sleepless nights, the staff told us the were sorry and that they had a repairman coming to address the problem in a few days. To bad the owner wasn't honest with us.
What can I say about this wonderful place! I hate to tell people all about it or it might not be available when I want to return! The location is fantastic! Yet it is so serene and quiet! An absolutely charming delightful place. The people there are so kind and thoughtful. It’s a warm, welcoming place, with some of the best breakfast ever! Plus parking which is very important! This B&B is beautiful. Our room was spotlessly clean, great size and had everything you could need (and want!). Amazing fireplace for cosy nights in, gorgeous view of the canal. Breakfast was lovely, and the setting is so quaint. Appreciated the chocolate and beer on arrival and cake on the second day too. Faultless! Can't wait to return.
My husband and I spent a few lovely nights at this beautiful bed and breakfast. Everything about this B&B was perfect; the delicious breakfast every morning, the picture-perfect canal view from the room, a semi private garden area, the wood burning fireplace for the cool evenings, the comfortable bed, the luxurious bath & shower, little sweet treats every day, and two cold local beers in the refrigerator upon arrival. This charming bed and breakfast was clean, comfortable, and quiet and the location could not have been better-everything we wanted to see and do was within walking distance. The hosts provided many wonderful recommendations for everything from chocolate, to restaurants, to bars. We felt so well taken care of and all the staff were so kind and helpful.
I had made a mistake when booking this accommodation and booked one less night than we needed which I was not aware of until we got a call from the staff saying we were past our check out time and that we need to come get our bags so they could clean the room for the next guest. I was so embarrassed and upset with myself that I had made this mistake, but the staff were so kind and understanding. They even helped us find another place to stay for the night. This was truly the best accommodation we have ever stayed at and would absolutely come back if we are ever in Brugge again. I will be recommending this place to all of our family and friends that are visiting Brugge!
B&B Canal Deluxe was beyond awesome. We absolutely loved our stay. The breakfast was incredible with so much love and attention to detail. Our room was massive with the entire deck bordering the canal itself. Could we have stayed longer, yes! Would we like to have brought the chef home with us, YES!

Amazing hotel perfectly located to discover Brugge. It's a small hotel, so it's quiet. We had a room just in front of the pool. The room was spacious, with nice amenities and good A/C. The lady at the reception was super friendly. Breakfast was great and they offer parking for a much better price than the parking on the area. Will definitely come back again.

The owners try hard to make this a nice space and experience. However, the parking situation is a disaster. They should warn you!! I arrived via Google Maps and at first couldn’t find the hotel or any signs regarding where to park. I approached the reception who told me to reverse backwards into a one-way street (dangerous!). There were bikes and cars coming from behind all the time. I got so stressed by this. Then she told me to drive into an underground garage which I refused because it was way too narrow for an SUV! Then she told me to park right beyond the gates of the hotel, which was challenging because, again, the entrance was so god damn narrow. While I was trying to navigate all this as a someone from abroad, she made snarky comments (“seeing how you reverse…”). The next day the problems continued because the other owner tried to navigate me out of the property plot through the gates. He didn’t pay attention while doing so, so the side of my car got scratched. Sure, that was ultimately my mistake. Even so, the attitude was shocking and rude and communication around driving and parking extremely poor. This ruined my experience.
This place is great value for money. My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. The owners are very friendly and helpful, the room (we had an outside room with patio) was more than comfortable and well equipped. The breakfast is very generous and delicious. For the price you won’t go wrong here.
Booked a last minute spa day. 2 hours of relaxation did us really good, the host was very friendly. The spa room with jaccuzi and sauna was great 👍 We enjoyed our time here and will definitely come back.

Absolutely charming place packed with style and good vibes 😎 Kind of OJ is a boutique hotel with a perfect host. The area is silent and located close to the Brugge historic centre. Coffee during breakfast was what I was looking for during breakfasts. Delicious ingredients and proper portions made us ready to explore the city. It was easy to find the hotel and get used to its location within any area we’ve been. Hope to get back here soon.
