Botanical garden
Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria - Melbourne Gardens, established in 1846, covers 36 hectares and features Australian species as well as non-native gardens. Similar to New York's Central Park, it occupies a significant portion of the city and offers various attractions such as the Melbourne Observatory, Guilfoyles Volcano, and Fern Gully. The gardens are home to diverse wildlife including black swans, kookaburras, and cockatoos.
The Botanical Gardens are very well maintained and set out. Got it split up into different areas. It is well worth a wonder through there to see. Seats are around to sit and enjoy the tranquility. Plenty of bird life. Quite a wide range of plants through out the grounds. A must see. Not too far from the city.
Christine B — Google review
Beautiful paradise hidden next to the Shrine. Plenty of space for you find your peaceful spot and plenty of room for you to enjoy a walk/jog of any length. Make sure to grab a map of the gardens if you are specifically looking to learn more about the plants. We especially love the Sensory Garden next to the lake. Just a beautiful, peaceful place to be quiet, still the mind and be present. The sounds of nature is a powerful healer. Do hope they will fix up the greenhouses - the tropical greenhouse looks enchanting and wished it was open.

Excellent garden with different types of flowers and trees from different parts of the world. Lake was quite & good. This my 2nd visit in garden. We loved it. Good place for family, friends and even for picnic.
Dr B — Google review
Fabulous day spent walking around the beautiful grounds, we did the bus tour too and it gave us some very interesting information and history and other ideas of places to visit and plants to look into format home. Eugenie our bus guide was fabulous! Highly recommend for families of all kinds.

A breathtaking garden in the heart of Melbourne! I visited the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria – Melbourne Gardens in early October, during springtime, and the whole place was bursting with color and life. The air was filled with the scent of flowers, and the lake reflected the blue sky beautifully. There are thousands of plant species from around the world, peaceful walking paths, and plenty of spots to sit and relax. The Japanese Garden area and the blooming cherry blossoms were absolutely stunning. What I loved most was the sense of peace — just a few minutes from the busy city, yet it feels like a different world. Whether you come for a morning walk, photography, or a quiet picnic, this garden is a must-visit in Melbourne.

### Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne: A Moody Spring Gem Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens is a lush urban oasis, especially magical in spring under dramatic cloudy skies—perfect for moody, high-contrast photos. The star? The vast Cacti and Succulent Collection: 3,000+ spiky survivors like towering saguaros and night-blooming Echinopsis, thriving in the redeveloped Arid Garden. Nearby, the new drought-friendly forest of hardy eucalypts and acacias nods to climate resilience with rugged beauty. Spring explodes in color—cherry blossoms, magnolias, tulips, and vibrant perennials—against silvered skies, buzzing with life. A serene, free escape. Five stars.

Absolutely loved visiting the Melbourne Botanic Gardens! The parks are beautiful, very well maintained, and feature an impressive variety of plants. It’s a perfect spot to relax, go for a walk, or even a run. The gardens are also close to the river, which adds an extra charm and makes the surroundings even more peaceful. A great place to spend a few hours enjoying nature right in the city.

Just beautiful. An oasis in the heart of the city, perfect for a quiet walk. Sit by the lake, enjoy a coffee and watch and listen to the variety of birds.

The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is a massive rotating wheel offering 360-degree views and glass-enclosed cabins for up to 20 people. It provides a unique introduction to the color, history, and culture of the city. Whether you're familiar with Melbourne or visiting for the first time, it offers a spectacular way to get your bearings. The 30-minute rotation allows you to take in ever-changing views of inner Melbourne, lush gardens, sports stadiums, cultural precincts, and Port Phillip Bay.
The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel may soon “spin” again in Docklands The Melbourne Star (previously Southern Star) is a closed 120 metre tall ferris wheel in the suburb of Docklands in Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. Aerial perspective of the Docklands: Melbourne Flyer, the District and Docklands film studio Described by its operators as an "observation wheel" and claimed to be "the Southern Hemisphere's only giant observation wheel" it is 120 m (394 ft) tall and has seven spokes, reflecting the seven-pointed star of the Australian flag. It opened two years behind schedule in December 2008, but closed 40 days later due to structural defects. The wheel itself was scrapped and replaced, but the original support structure and passenger cabins were retained. It was originally thought that reconstruction might be completed in late 2010, but repeated delays meant it did not reopen until 23 December 2013. A ride (one complete rotation) takes 30 minutes and, according to the Star's website, provides uninterrupted 360-degree views of up to 40 kilometres (25 mi) "encompassing the Docklands precinct, Melbourne’s CBD, Port Phillip Bay and as far as Mount Macedon, Arthurs Seat and the Dandenong Ranges. The Wheel permanently closed on 6 September 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's a pity that it's closed now. If you come at night, I think it will be very romantic.
KE B — Google review
Great place to visit with family and friends. Kids enjoyed it a lot. Nice views of Melbourne and great to visit during nice and clear day. Night views are also great. During night time they lit up the wheel which looks great from distance. We visited during school holidays and have to wait about 2 hours due to the long queue however due to the wait we get to see both day and night views of Melbourne. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great cafes and restaurants available. Toilets are available on site. Lots of on street and undercover parking available.
Nitin B — Google review
Really wish this iconic landmark would reopen. It's such a must-see and has been since I was young and visiting Melbourne in the early 2010s. Visiting docklands isn't the same without this operating.
Caesey P — Google review
A Melbourne icon and a fantastic place to see thhis beautiful city from a new perspective. The pods are climate controlled and the wheel turns so slowly that you barely feel it moving. Views are just phenomenal. Plenty of close parking and restaurants nearby for a fun day or night out.
Robert B — Google review
Wonderful experience, the staff were lovely and the pricing was good, you can even go around again straight away for $2. The view is amazing at night or during the day. I would definitely recommend checking this out!
Shakira J — Google review
We visited on a Sunday afternoon and the queues were small, which was a bonus. An even better bonus was getting a cabin all to ourselves as there were not many other visitors at the time. The views were great and the commentary was good too, however we thought there could have been some ambient music or something whilst there was no commentary. The staff were lovely and helpful, also there is an impressive Lego model of the wheel in the gift shop which is a must see!
Sarah C — Google review
This is my second time to take on. The first the lady attendant was real rude and didn't allow my friend and I have our own cabin while there less than 10 clients. That's the main reason I took off one star for it. This time the friendly male attendant give me a way much better experience! Got amazing photos and really enjoyed my journey.

Diner
Vue de Monde is an upscale dining spot located in the Rialto building, offering sweeping city views from its 55th-floor location. The restaurant provides a luxurious experience with modern Australian cuisine and an impressive 18-course feast using the finest native ingredients. The elegant ambiance features black walls, celestial lighting, and twinkling city lights below, creating a unique dining atmosphere.
Can’t believe this was my first time here! Wonderful service, with really attentive staff, even the chef team say hi! Felt like there were servers flitting around us the whole time we were there. Generous portions, you’ll definitely not leave hungry, and good wine pairings (I got the most basic one). The cheese course was wonderful! Loved the theatre, and interactions with staff and tour of the kitchen and some hands on activities. The view is of course, wonderful, seating and atmosphere is very comfortable, and I can’t wait to come back again!
Holly K — Google review
Superlative food n fantastic service. They are very attentive n on hand to anticipate any of your needs. Will recommend this as a bucket list item. The only reason why I gave 4 stars for atmosphere was: by the time it was our turn to tour the kitchen, most of the food preparation had finished so there's nothing much to observe. The schedule should be more flexible
K W — Google review
The set menu is coherent, celebrating native ingredients. Very innovative. Enjoyed most of the savoury but love the desserts most, especially the soufflé. Probably the best i have ever tasted. Was told the recipe was kept since restaurant opening. Definitely the signature dish! The little tour to open kitchen is a bonus. It is a bit pricey but worthwhile given good food, great ambience and night view.
Shane Y — Google review
My partner and I had dinner at Vue de Monde to celebrate our 5th anniversary, and the entire experience was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. It was clear that the team is passionate about every single detail. The food was extraordinary. Each course was a work of art, showcasing innovative combinations and visually stunning presentations that truly highlighted the quality of the ingredients. But what made the evening truly unforgettable was the personal and attentive service. The staff made our celebration feel incredibly special by presenting us with a personalized card signed by the team to commemorate our anniversary. A major highlight was the post-meal tour of their kitchen, where a staff member graciously showed us their operations and answered our questions. It was a fascinating look behind the scenes and a perfect end to the meal. It was a experience made memorable by a team that genuinely cares. Highly recommended for any special occasion.
Angus L — Google review
Highly recommend for any special occasions. The experience starts from the moment you enter the foyer at street level where you are greeted and it continues as you take the lift to the 55th floor. The views are spectacular looking out to Melbourne high above the city at sunset. The wait staff were truly amazing and really did everything to break the mold of robot waiters, they added their own personal touch which was well received. The dining area was spacious and left the experience very intiment. The food was a absolute culinary masterpiece. The flavors and the textures and unique paintings of some foods left an orgasmic explosion in your mouth. We celebrated our 40th birthdays at Vue we made the most perfect choice of restaurants for this momentous occasion. The chefs tour of the kitchen added a whole new element to the experience, With Wealth of knowledge and overall experience every section of the kitchen was explaon in great detail by the Sous Chef who was a very funny yet very professional man. We enjoyed a photo with the chefs and the topped out the experience for us it was beautiful. After this we returned to our table to find beautiful personalized birthday cards signed by the staff. It was truly a night and experience that we will remember forever and pass on the message to as many people as possible. Highly recommended
Edward H — Google review
We celebrated my birthday at Vue de Monde (2 Oct 2025), and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The team (especially Silvia, Barbara, Mia, and Neil) were outstanding, attentive, intuitive, and genuinely kind. They struck the perfect balance between engagement and giving us space, making the evening feel effortless. From the lobby welcome to our farewell, every interaction was thoughtful and polished. They handled complex allergy requirements with remarkable care, never once making us feel like an inconvenience. Each of the 11 or so courses were perfectly portioned and timed. We had to decline the cheese course as we were so full! Every dish flowed into the next with thoughtful precision, each complementing the previous and what was to come. My highlights included; the garlic and leek tart, wagyu and damper, and the ice cream sandwich. The Million Dollar Baby cocktail was a heavenly must from Lui Bar. This paired with the views made the evening even more memorable. At the end, they presented a handwritten birthday card, which was a beautiful personal touch. It’s those small gestures, paired with flawless service and exceptional food, that make the Vue de Monde team truly world class. We are so grateful to the team for making the night unforgettable, and we will definitely be back.
Taylor S — Google review
One of the best restaurants if not the best restaurant in the Southern Hemisphere. From the time we got there till the time I left, the entire experience was amazing. The somm team, the wait staff were just exceptional. Explaining every single dish, element of the restaurant and the the inspiration behind. A special shout out to Raj, for being the absolutely lovely host and to the lovely team Barbie, Nicole, Danny, Ben, PJ, Cody, Maite and Fergus and everyone. (I couldn’t remember everyone’s names). The service, the atmosphere and the food were nothing short of exceptional. It was an absolute pleasure to visit this place and I can’t stress enough to visit it again! Much Love!
Uday K — Google review
The food is perfection and every dish is a work of art - so beautiful and creative and the tableware uses gorgeous natural materials. But it’s the team that work there that make it such a special experience! Our fave part of the night was the kitchen tour and the interactive station with the patisserie chef. Shoutout to Andy for the tour - we loved meeting the team that brings it all to life, like Jack, the apprentice, he was all smiles and full of energy!

St Kilda Pier is a popular spot in Melbourne, offering stunning views of the city skyline and Port Phillip Bay. During the day, visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the pier, bask in the sunshine, and admire the panoramic vistas. The heritage-listed St Kilda Pier Kiosk at the end of the pier provides an opportunity to grab a coffee or snack. As evening falls, it becomes an ideal location for spotting Little Penguins as they make their way back home.
It is a lovely place to visit if you are located close to the city, particularly on a sunny day. The sunset views are to die for, and one can also see a beautiful view of the city skyline. The pier has been recently renovated and is now open from the morning till 5 PM. There are ample places to sit, few cafes nearby to enjoy a cup of hot coffee and has nice walking tracks too. Summers are quite crowded. The best part about this pier is one can see little penguins near the rocks by the pier, particularly during sunset. It is advisable to keep silence near the rocks so as to not disturb the penguins while clicking their photos.
Manini D — Google review
St Kilda Pier is an absolute gem in Melbourne’s vibrant coastal scene, and my visit was nothing short of spectacular! This iconic spot offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, lively atmosphere, and convenient amenities that make it a must-visit destination🙂. The pier itself is a scenic delight, stretching out into Port Phillip Bay with breathtaking views of the city skyline and the shimmering water. Visiting in the evening was a brilliant choice—the sunset paints the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple, creating a magical backdrop for a leisurely stroll. The gentle sea breeze and the sound of waves lapping against the pier add to the serene yet lively vibe. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the resident fairy penguins waddling back to their burrows at dusk—an adorable highlight! One of the standout features is the accessibility and convenience. The parking area near the pier is well-organized, with plenty of spots available even during peak evening hours. While parking isn’t free, the rates are quite reasonable for such a prime location, making it hassle-free to drive in and enjoy the experience without breaking the bank. The pay for amenities and nearby facilities is also very fair. The kiosks and cafes along the foreshore offer a range of delicious food and drinks at decent prices, perfect for grabbing a coffee or fish and chips to enjoy while soaking in the views. The area feels safe and well-maintained, with clean pathways and ample seating to relax and take it all in. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, St Kilda Pier in the evening is an unforgettable experience. The combination of stunning scenery, affordable parking, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a top-tier destination

Beautiful newly built pier with amazing views of the city. Beautiful spot to watch the sunset and see the city beautifully lit up at night. Def worth visiting and going for a walk to the end of the jetty. Also lots of seating all the x way along the pier for those that need to take a rest or to sit and see the beautiful city views. I love this pier.
Linda B — Google review
This is such a beautiful addition to St Kilda. The pier is lovely, the beaches are clean, and if you’re lucky enough you’ll see one of the local penguins. This is a free tourist attraction so that’s a great thing. Plenty to see as there are great restaurants from takeaways to fine dining (Donovan’s).
Raelene R — Google review
My first visit to St Kilda pier since its been upgraded. I love what has been done with it. It's a very pleasant walk with the sunset and view of the city skyline. Plenty of places to sit and relax along the way and I love how they've kept the historical kiosk.
Lisa M — Google review
A must-visit when in Melbourne. St Kilda Pier offers stunning views of the city skyline and Port Phillip Bay, especially during sunrise and sunset. The walk is peaceful, with plenty of spots for photos. If you’re lucky, you might spot the famous little penguins near the breakwater at dusk. Clean, well-maintained, and a perfect place to relax and soak in the fresh sea breeze.
Proride M — Google review
Here's where you can see wild tiny penguin at its natural habitat. Btw note that this is not a penguin parade so you have to patient search and wait for the penguins! Usually they are in between some rocks so look carefully. Don't get your hope up too high if you are expecting a lot of penguins visible in close proximity. This is not your place
Pui L — Google review
Went on a Saturday afternoon with nice weather and sunshine. It was a big change from before. There were a lot of people. There was a boat tour to see penguins. There was an ice cream shop at the end of the road. It was delicious. The atmosphere was good for visiting. The walkway was convenient, but there were no trash cans.

Outdoor Activities
Brighton Beach, also known as the Brighton Beach in Melbourne, is a popular and iconic destination known for its colorful Victorian bathing boxes that line the shore. Originally used as changing sheds in Victorian times, these huts are now adorned with bright colors and bold artwork, making them a favorite spot for Instagram photos. Visitors can also enjoy swimming at the historic Brighton Baths or relax at Middle Brighton Beach, where they can swim in sea water or enjoy the shallow beach sheltered by the pier.
Brighton Beach is one of those places that instantly lifts your mood the moment you arrive. The first thing that catches your eye is the row of colourful bathing boxes along the sand. each one is unique, painted with quirky designs and bright hues that make the whole beach feel cheerful and welcoming. It’s almost impossible not to stop for a photo or two, and you’ll often see families, couples, and friends snapping away, laughing, and enjoying the laid-back vibe. The beach itself is clean and spacious, with soft golden sand and gentle waves that are perfect for swimming or just dipping your toes in. Even on busy days, there’s enough room to find your own spot to relax. I loved watching kids build sandcastles while parents picnicked on the grass nearby, and the friendly atmosphere made it easy to strike up a conversation with locals or fellow visitors. The walking and cycling paths along the foreshore are great for a morning stroll or a sunset walk, and the view of the Melbourne skyline in the distance is just stunning. One of my favourite parts of visiting Brighton Beach was exploring the nearby Church Street area. There are plenty of cute cafés and boutique shops, so it’s easy to grab a coffee or a bite to eat before or after your time on the sand. Everything feels very safe and family-friendly, and the area is well-maintained with clean facilities and lifeguards on duty during the busy season. Brighton Beach is the kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Whether you’re after a fun day out, a scenic spot for photos, or just a peaceful place to unwind by the water, it has something for everyone. Highly recommend spending a few hours here, you’ll leave with great memories and probably a few extra grains of sand in your shoes!

Brighton Beach in Melbourne is a great spot for photos, especially with its colorful bathing boxes lined up along the shore. They're part of the area's history, and still well-preserved. The beach has a nice view of the city skyline across the bay, and it's a good place for a quiet walk or to just sit and look out at the water.

A great choice would be Brighton Beach, especially if you go right before sunset — you’ll get to enjoy the beautiful Melbourne city skyline as the sun goes down over the water.

I love love walking alongside the water. Seeing all the tourists here actually makes me happy to see as I’m glad people enjoy the little beach houses and that it’s a sight that’s fun to visit. I also feel the water is super clear here and it makes the colour of the water really nice. I’ve come here with friends, family, and on a school excursion when I was in high school and I’ve always had nice memories here.

Ashcombe Maze is a 40 acre garden that features a hedge maze, lavender gardens, and the Great Gnome Hunt. The garden was established in the late 1970s and has since grown to include other parts of the property such as a rose maze with the 'oldest circular rose maze in the world' status, lavender gardens, and the Garden Discovery Trail.
We absolutely love using Ashcombe Maze for our proposals – it’s such a magical and romantic spot! Mat and Carly are amazing to deal with – so friendly, accommodating, and always go above and beyond to help us create unforgettable moments. Highly recommend!

I had an absolutely great afternoon over here. The maze was fun to move and get out of it. The play area was clean and big. The best part was lavender garden which was in full bloom. They have free coffee for all visitors and nice open seating to enjoy. Must visit place

Painter’s Dream From the moment you step onto the grounds, the air is filled with the soothscent of lavender, if you like lavender of course. Soft, floral, and calming. The gardens are a painter’s dream, endless rows of vibrant purple stretch toward the horizon. No matter the season, there’s always something in bloom, with European, French, and native lavender varieties creating a sensory tapestry that enchants all who visit. But Ashcombe is more than its famed lavender. The Hedge Maze—Australia’s oldest and most famous whimsical touch to your lavender experience. Highly recommend

Actually a really wonderful experience. Reasonably priced food for Mornington Area, free coffee, beautiful and well maintained garden full of the local birds, even the dang bees were relaxed. We even got a little prize for doing their scavenger hunt. Come here on a nice day and you'll have a whimsical time. Staff was also kind, warm and welcoming.

Small cafe for a quick rest , toilets were very clean too. Keep up the great work guys 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This place is absolutely amazing! My son, who has profound autism, really loves it here. Every time we visit, he wants to stay for hours because he enjoys the beautiful play areas and mazes so much. My daughter also loves it, especially the fairy hunt—kids get a little prize for finding all the hidden fairies in the gardens, which is super fun. The staff is really friendly too, and they even offer free tea and coffee at the café. It’s definitely one of our staple places to go, especially when the weather is nice!

Was staying across the road for the long weekend with my wife and two sons and stopped by for a look at around 3:00pm and realised we needed more time to do the mazes and Gnome/Fairy scavenger hunt. The owner, Matt was absolutely terrific and said we were welcome to come back the following day at no extra cost to finish exploring and gave the boys bubble wands and a couple of snacks. Had a great time both days running around the maze and searching for gnomes and the eldest loved the playground. Beautiful gardens and games and will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

I thought I’d seen the best cornhole around after Ol’ Grammy Donüte showed us her cornhole. For over two decades, her cornhole reigned supreme in my mind. Unchallenged and steadfast as a core cornhole memory. Today, Ol’ Grammy’s cornhole has been removed from its mantle and tucked behind a figurative bookshelf to gather dust in my mind. This is thanks to Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Garden’s cornhole. The new prime cornhole experience that made Ol Grammy’s cornhole look like a 2-ply bean board. Regulation weighted Verao corn pouches meeting the 2023 ICHCB standards for Grade A comps. A stained walnut Verao GA-014B cornhole board completed the set which is my second favourite ICHCB compliant board. The scenic grounds adjacent the North and South Mazes provided a lovely lawn for 3 rounds of cornhole before getting lost in the South Maze for over 4.5hrs.

The Brighton Bathing Boxes, located about 12km south of Melbourne city center at Brighton Beach, are a collection of 82 brightly colored wooden beach huts dating back to the early 1900s. Originally used for changing into swimwear during the Victorian era, these iconic and much-photographed structures have become a staple of the beachfront. Each hut has its own unique design and character, making them a popular spot for tourists and locals alike to capture memorable photos.
I recently visited the Brighton Bath Box on a day with a beautiful clear blue sky, and it was an amazing experience. The vibrant colors of the beach boxes looked even more striking against the bright sky and sparkling water. Walking along the shoreline, I felt relaxed and inspired by the peaceful atmosphere and the gentle sound of the waves. The area was easy to access, and there was plenty of space to enjoy a stroll or just sit and take in the views. I couldn’t resist taking lots of photos—the combination of the colorful boxes, golden sand, and blue sky made every shot look incredible. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Brighton Bath Box, especially on a sunny day. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing day out, capturing great photos, and enjoying the unique charm of Melbourne’s coastline.

Loved the place. Picturesque. But Nothing much to do if you aint swimming though. 1 cafe near, and far from public transport. Idea. Can walk for an hour to Point ormond for a great look at the cbd and another 30 mins walk to st kilda. Bring water :) enjoy the waves
Paul V — Google review
The Brighton Beach bathing boxes were quite interesting and are definitely a popular spot for tourists. They’re also a good option if you enjoy hiking, as you can walk along the coast to places like the Red Bluff Lookout. That said, the bathing boxes themselves weren’t as special as I expected, though maybe the gloomy weather on the day I visited played a part. Still, it was nice to learn about the historical purpose behind them.

Easy to navigate here from Brighton Beach Station (can take from Flinders Street). Just a 15~ min walk to the boxes from the station. Worth a visit especially if you’re on the way to Phillip Island!

A famous spot to visit when in Melbourne. We stopped here briefly just to “check-in” and take some photos with the brightly coloured bathing boxes lining the beach. Each one is uniquely painted and looks great in pictures. The area was smaller than I expected, but still worth a short visit. We took a stroll, snapped some photos, and left after a while. There’s also a café if you want to sit and enjoy the beach view.

An iconic Melbourne landmark that’s as colourful in person as it is in photos. The Brighton Bathing Boxes line the beach with unique designs, making it a perfect spot for photography. The beach itself is clean, peaceful, and offers a great view of the city skyline in the distance. Best visited on a sunny day for those postcard-perfect shots. A must-see for visitors and locals alike.

Brighton Bathing Boxes are an iconic Melbourne highlight—rows of brightly painted beach huts along Dendy Street Beach that are perfect for photos at sunrise or sunset. The beach is clean with gentle waves, and there’s a long walking path if you want a scenic stroll. Parking is available nearby (often paid and busy on weekends), and cafés are within a short drive. Remember the huts are privately owned, so admire from outside and be respectful. A must-visit for visitors and locals alike.

The Yarra River is a 242 km river that begins in the Yarra Ranges before winding its way through south central Victoria and through Melbourne before emptying into Hobsons Bay. In Melbourne, we enjoyed the riverside areas between St. Kilda and South Wharf Promenade, taking in monuments, numerous bridge crossings, urban space, mall, convention centre, restaurants and bars along the way. Environs are very pleasant and there are plenty of opportunities for people to enjoy leisure time near the river.

Fitzroy Gardens, a historic 26-hectare site located in the city center, offers a picturesque setting with its lush lawns, tree-lined walking paths, and charming cafes. The gardens boast a rich history spanning 150 years and feature various attractions such as fountains, sculptures, historic buildings, ornamental follies like the old bandstand and Temple of the Winds Rotunda.
Absolutely beautiful park, perfect spot for a picnic or a stroll. There's lots of mature trees that provide plenty of shade along the majority of the paths and dotted across the lawns. The miniature village is pretty cute - it's a shame you can't actually walk through it anymore, but you can still get a really good view from every angle. The little streams and waterfalls are so peaceful, it's easy to forget you're actually in the CBD while walking through the secluded trails. The sculptures and details on the fountains are lovely, too. We didn't go inside the historic cottage on the grounds, but it looks absolutely charming from the outside and having the tour guides dressed in period clothing and acting the part out in the front garden was a great touch. We'll definitely be doing that tour next time we visit.

Fitzroy Gardens isn’t very close to our place, but every time we visit the Melbourne Museum, I prefer parking here and walking through the gardens to get there. This is also where we had our wedding photos taken, which makes it even more special for us. The gardens are beautiful and full of interesting things to explore. My daughter can easily spend a couple of hours having little adventures here. It’s a really great spot.

Luna Park Melbourne is a historic amusement park located in St. Kilda, a vibrant beachside suburb in Melbourne. Since its opening in 1912, this enduring attraction has been captivating both locals and tourists with its blend of old-school charm and modern rides. The park's star attraction is the Great Scenic Railway, the world's oldest continually operating roller coaster, offering stunning views of Port Phillip Bay.
Oldest still operating Luna Park in the world! Love it! I really love the classic scentic railway! A roller coaster that run on momentum, with the right level of excitement and stunning scenery along the track! Riding on scentic railway is my most romantic moment in Melbourne!
Isa W — Google review
Overall, the amusement park makes a good impression, offering a variety of interesting attractions. However, in 4-5 hours, we were only able to go on two rides. The queues for each attraction ranged from 1 to 3 hours. Even in the afternoon, the wait for a simple slide for a small child was 40 minutes. I queued for my child, but he wasn't allowed to go ahead. Therefore, queuing for someone else seems impossible. I would rather call this place a zoo than an amusement park. Unfortunately, such a large number of visitors undoubtedly has a negative impact on the experience of this historical site. I understand that even on weekdays it can be crowded, and during school holidays, it’s likely a real nightmare. It would be sensible to consider the option of selling tickets online and to have separate hours for tourists. After all, standing in line for two hours is certainly very exhausting! Moreover, it’s completely impossible to step away to the toilet for fear of losing your spot.
K K — Google review
🎡 Luna Park Melbourne is one of the city’s most famous amusement parks, but its design may not appeal to everyone. The entrance features the iconic giant clown face with a wide open mouth, which some find creepy and unsettling rather than fun. Personally, I found the design not so nice and a bit scary, so I decided not to enter. While the park is popular with families and thrill-seekers, the overall look might not be inviting if you’re sensitive to bold or unusual designs.
Min M — Google review
Luna Park Melbourne is fun if you’re looking for a throwback, carnival-style amusement park. The heritage roller coaster is a standout, and the park has a quirky, vintage vibe that families and tourists might enjoy. It’s a great spot for kids or for those wanting a more laid-back experience—not a high-adrenaline thrill park. However, some of the rides feel outdated, and the pricing can feel steep considering the size and condition of the park. Queues get long on weekends, and a few rides are sometimes closed without clear notice. It’s charming in its own way, but don’t expect modern theme park standards. Still worth a visit if you’re in the area, but probably more for the atmosphere and photos than for the rides themselves.

Luna Park Melbourne – A Timeless Experience of Joy and Connection I recently visited Luna Park Melbourne with a group of friends, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, the energy of the park was contagious, vibrant, welcoming, and full of life. The blend of classic rides and modern attractions created a perfect balance of nostalgia and excitement. The staff were friendly and professional, ensuring a smooth experience for every visitor. Beyond the fun and laughter, what stood out most was the sense of community and shared joy that Luna Park inspires. Moments like these are a reminder that great experiences go beyond entertainment; they connect people, spark joy, and create lasting memories.

- We experienced a delay in being seated, despite the counter appearing unoccupied for five minutes. - The long coats were not taken and were left hanging on the chairs, touching the floor. We kindly requested that they be removed. - The ambiance was quite loud, with numerous tables occupied by groups. - The cocktail, ordered at the beginning of the meal, did not arrive before the food or with the starters, only appearing with the main courses. - One member of the staff seemed to struggle with their duties. When presenting the bread selection, they asked, "Which bread you want uh?" - The menu seemed to contain several hidden charges. Ordering the first dessert, the 'Tart tatin,' which was not explicitly mentioned, would result in a twenty-dollar surcharge as per the waiter once you have asked for it in your order. The Waygu beef, priced at fifteen dollars on the menu, would result in an additional seventy-dollar charge when ordered separately. I was afraid of ordering by the end of it as everything I wanted to order... I was informed to have a surcharge. - The food and cutlery were served in a manner that crossed in front of the guests. - My unlocked phone was taken for payment with the Accor card. (I acknowledge that I should have been more cautious in this instance.) - The tatin was way to sweet, overdid the suggar - The rest of the food was good and yummy, specially rhe eye fillet.

We celebrated my dad’s 85th birthday at Number 35 and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The food was exceptional, every dish was five star, and the cocktails were fantastic. The service was outstanding from start to finish, and the views from the 35th floor of the Sofitel were absolutely spectacular. Watching the city transform from daylight to a glittering night skyline made the evening even more special. Highly recommend for any occasion.

Had the weekend high tea located on the 35th floor which has a nice view and atmosphere. The high tea came with a tier stand of sweets and savouries, followed with some scones after. The warm vol-au-vent filled with chicken was like a proper entrée dish, pastry was flaky and buttery and the chicken was tender and well seasoned. The sandwiches and wraps were also fresh and tasty, enjoyed the selection of ingredients and pairing of flavours; favourite was the prosciutto gruyere bun and the roast beef wrap. Sweets were a delight, thought I would enjoy the chocolate hazelnut lamington the most but the other fruity ones were more interesting and tasty, especially the tropical tartlet and the mandarin white chocolate pebble. Scones were served warm with free refill and the condiments were pretty good; the lemon curd was sweet and not too sour which was perfect. Overall a tasty and satisfying high tea experience; the staffs were very friendly and attentive so it was easy to order drinks, and the live piano was an added bonus.

What an experience! Took the family here and was able to have almost everything off the menu. All the dishes were amazing and exactly what you’d hope for with an amazing restaurant like this. Have been here a couple other times and never disappointed. Desserts are definitely recommended to share and go for a ratio of 1 dish per 1.5 people (I.e. 3 dishes for 5 people). We’ll be back!

Had a great night at this bar! The atmosphere was lively with great music—not too loud, just right for conversations. The staff was friendly and attentive, even on a busy night. Cocktails were creative and well-balanced, though a bit pricey. The highlight was the outdoor seating area, which added a relaxed vibe. Only downside was the wait time for drinks during peak hours, but it was worth it. The crowd was mixed and the overall energy was upbeat. Perfect for a weekend hangout with friends or a casual date night. Will definitely be coming back soon!

Haven't been down to Eau De Vie for awhile. Me and my partner went there on Saturday night (13/09), atmosphere was buzzing with lovely people. Staff are amazing as always, wiped down the tables twice as we sat down. We didn't order food as we had dinner beforehand. We ordered 3 drinks. Don Giovanni - citrus floral champagne style fizz - Delicious!! Tomorrow's Party - Watermelon, lime, banana with henny VS cognac - bit strong but punchy and fruity. Great notes together. Doc Mason's Dragon - Pineapple, lime, Dragon fruit, coconut water with tequila - And what a small performance beforehand. Fire torch dusted with cinnamon (I think) to create a fire breathing dragon) - Would definitely order again! Overall, such a great night, lovely staff, and ambience. Must Try and visit. Many drinks on the menu, you can't go wrong!!

My wife and I had an awesome time. A gentleman with a moustache served us the quintessential package and had excellent presentation skills and later recommended a fantastic Whiskey (it was Scottish aged in smoked barrels I wish I remembered the name..)We’ve visited a few times over the years it a great establishment.

An impressive hidden bar with an overwhelming amount of drinks to choose from. The bartender really knew his stuff inside and out, which turned the evening into a lovely experience. I’d certainly like to return to try the Australian whisky flight. Highly recommend!

Finding the door to Eau de Vie is half the fun — tucked away like Melbourne’s best-kept secret. Once inside, you're transported into a moody, intimate speakeasy full of charm and character. Now let’s talk about the Espresso Zabaione — the true star of the night. It’s rich, velvety, and indulgent with just the right kick. Served with flair, it’s not just a cocktail, it’s dessert, drama, and caffeine all in one glorious glass. An absolute must-order. Whether you're after date night magic or just a top-tier drink with serious style, Eau de Vie delivers — once you find the door, that is. 😉
Kim J — Google review
Kinda shocking considering what you hear about the place. Atmosphere is ok but if you've ever been to a speakeasy themed bar, you've been to this one. Drinks and food are nice I guess, but not worth the prices you're being charged for them. Lots of gimmicks with no follow through. Disappointing. If you even get them that is. Took 30 minutes to get a round. The last one didn't show up at all. Seemed short-staffed, which could have been acceptable if it was communicated at all. Instead serves run around taking more orders and one guy was seemingly left to make every single drink for the entire place by himself. Strange strategy. It's a cocktail bar and it was a struggle getting a drink. Don't waste your time.
Peter B — Google review
Really loved the experience! The place has a cozy vibe and serves amazing drinks with great attention to detail. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming. It’s a little hidden but worth finding for the quality and creativity of the drinks. Would have been perfect if there was a bit more time and some snacks to go with the drinks, but overall it was a wonderful experience that I’d happily recommend. 🥃✨

Perched within the Dandenong Ranges, SkyHigh Mount Dandenong offers a unique dining experience with stunning panoramic views of Melbourne. The casual eatery provides a perfect setting for lunch or dinner, while the seasonal terrace allows visitors to enjoy their meals amidst breathtaking scenery. Whether you choose to dine inside the award-winning restaurant or set up a picnic on the lawn using the available facilities, SkyHigh promises an escape from city life and an opportunity to appreciate Melbourne from a whole new perspective.
hazy beauty, characteristic of a sunset or sunrise viewed from an elevated vantage point. In the foreground, the dark silhouettes of trees create a textured edge, their forms softened by the distance and the atmospheric perspective. Beyond the trees, a vast expanse of land stretches out, gradually fading into a soft, muted palette of grays and browns. The air seems thick with a light mist or perhaps the remnants of the day's heat, obscuring the details of the landscape below and lending an ethereal quality to the view. In the far distance, a faint suggestion of a city skyline emerges from the haze. The buildings appear as delicate, almost dreamlike shapes on the horizon, their presence a subtle reminder of human activity amidst the grandeur of nature. The sky above is a gradient of soft, warm tones. To the right, the light is more intense, hinting at the sun's recent presence or imminent arrival, casting a gentle golden glow. This light gradually softens towards the left, blending into pale blues and creams, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The overall impression is one of peacefulness and quiet contemplation. The hazy distance softens the harshness of the world, inviting the viewer to appreciate the subtle beauty of the landscape and the gentle transition of light across the sky. It's a moment captured in time, where the vastness of nature meets the delicate touch of light and atmosphere.

We love every visit to this place. The cafe up there is great. The prices are reasonable and the food and coffee is amazing. There are toilets outside and inside the cafe area. It is very kid friendly as there is alot to see. There is an entrance fee for the maze, and an entrance fee to enter the sky high area — from memory you need to pay per car.

Drove here from Melbourne city for the beautiful views and a lunch. The views were great but the lunch was chaotic, too many people to be offered a good service at the restaurant. They tried their best though. Although, we wanted a quit lunch and didn’t really get it. The food was not great just decent enough now that we were there and had no other options. We had chicken with veggies in mushroom sauce, and a beef burger.

Amazing atmosphere atop Mt Dandedong. Their dessert options are incredible! Their delectable New York cheesecake is the best I’ve had. Pair that with their delicious hot chocolate and you have a perfect evening of bliss and serenity! Their service needs a bit of work though, took a while for the order to arrive and getting multiple table buzzers was annoyingly redundant.

Gorgeous views of Melbourne city! We came here for a birthday lunch. Nice cosy place inside. staff where lovely!
Bart — Google review
I attended the Mother’s Day special buffet lunch, priced at $90 per adult, with a large group. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the menu. The food did not match the price point at all – it looked disorganised and felt more like a nursing home setup. To make matters worse, there was no dedicated kids’ option, and when we requested a more child-friendly meal, the staff seemed hesitant to accommodate. We ended up having to pay extra for accomodating a kids meal, which felt unreasonable. How can you host a Mother’s Day buffet without considering families and providing kid-friendly options? While the service was overall excellent and the views were beautiful as always, the food itself was underwhelming and certainly not worth $90 per person. Regrettably, I wouldn’t choose to dine there again.
Meekee D — Google review
On July 13th last year I went here with my date at the time. We only went here as we were looking for something else. To get in to the area you have to pay for parking. So, we decided to go to the cafe and get some coffee to make the most of it. When we entered the cafe we were going to order and noticed the manager yelling at a worker there at the register. Then the manager took our order. We dined in and were served takeaway cups regardless and each coffee cost $10. The whole experience definitely was not worth it. The view is nice but everything else honestly did not seem worth it. The one thing that really put my date and I off was the manager yelling at a worker and then serving us and then not even during covid serving us takeaway cups. I honestly thought this cafe/restaurant (hence the name, view and all) would've been a lot fancier. I remember the dining area be seemingly small and there were a fair amount of people there but not packed. It's definitely worth going somewhere else for nicer coffee and a much nicer view honestly. I am very disappointed in this place and I hope the manager treats his staff and customers better or change managers. Everyone has a bad day but that did not live up to the standards and expectations of this place.

Really beautiful public garden. Some nice small lakes that always have cute baby ducks with their parents. A lot of nice grass areas for picnics. Great views of the royal exhibition building and the fountain. A kids playground. Great for running around or through as well.

Carlton Gardens is one of my favourite places in Melbourne. It’s a peaceful and beautifully maintained park right in the city. The gardens are full of tall trees, colourful flowers, and wide green spaces, making it perfect for a walk, a picnic, or just relaxing under the shade. What I really love is the combination of nature and history – the Royal Exhibition Building is stunning, and the Melbourne Museum is just nearby, so there’s always something interesting to see or do. The park feels safe and welcoming, with plenty of benches and open areas where families, tourists, and locals gather. It’s also a nice spot to take photos or enjoy some quiet time away from the busy streets. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Melbourne!
Quynh N — Google review
The Carlton Gardens are extremely beautiful and peaceful. The Royal Exhibition Building sits at the centre and makes a stunning backdrop for photos, complemented by a lovely fountain nearby. Keep an eye out for the many species of ducks that live here, along with the occasional corella and kookaburra. I was even lucky enough to spot a powerful owl in the trees, clutching a beheaded bat in its claws while magpies tried to steal its catch. To top it off, it actually regurgitated the bat’s head right in front of us! Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy birdwatching.

This is a great place to stroll to Carlton Gardens in winter, many of the autumn trees have shed their leaves to wait for the next season, but it creates a truly enchanting scene, walking around this place makes me feel relaxed, the natural scenery is wonderful and the grass here is also very green, it is beautiful like a picture. This place is famous as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the northeastern edge of the Central Business District, in the suburb of Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This is mainly due to the Royal Exhibition Building located on the premises. The garden is a popular recreational area, with large lawns, ancient trees, ornamental ponds, fountains and many other attractions. Next to the gardens is one of Australia's largest museums. So great to have the opportunity to go to a beautiful place like this, highly recommended 😊

Half Moon Bay Beach, located in Melbourne, offers a stunning and relaxing environment with soft sand and clear waters. The iconic cliffs and calm waters create a picturesque setting, perfect for a leisurely day out. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and coastline from the cliffs. While the beach is well-suited for swimming and picnicking, it can get crowded during peak times. The serene ambiance makes it an ideal place to unwind and soak up the sun.
The beach was nice, and the water was clean. Not much else to add—water was wet, and the sand was sandy!

Though we missed the sunset, it was still a wonderful experience being here. The beach offered such a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere — the sound of the waves, the cool breeze, and the beautiful view made it the perfect spot to unwind and forget about everything for a while. I truly enjoyed my time here, and I will definitely come back to this place to catch that sunset next time.

A large sandy beach with clear shallow water and some spots with small interesting rocks and shells and occasionally some pretty seaglass. The lovely cliffs frame the beach with views of the shipwreck and a pier. Access down a very long ramp path or from a carpark at the vary end where there is a cafe and a lifesaving club which has unisex toilets and outdoor cold rinse shower. Recommend.

We visited this nice beach based on a recommendation of a friend and we spent an enjoyable time. A clean beach with soft sands and interesting red cliffs, which attracts many visitors especially on a sunny day. Care must be taken while crossing over the cliffs to access the other part of the beach and enjoy the great view.

Breath taking bay with red ochre cliffs. Beautiful pathways to different view points. Family place with ample parking. But rocky area underwater. Need to be careful while walking barefoot. Good view points. Pier is a nice walkway.

I recently visited Half Moon Beach in Melbourne and I must say, it is a truly beautiful and relaxing place. The beach itself is stunning, with soft sand and crystal-clear waters. It's the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun. From the cliff, you can enjoy panoramic vistas of the ocean and the surrounding coastline. It's a sight that is truly breathtaking and one that shouldn't be missed. The atmosphere at Half Moon Beach is also very serene and peaceful. It's not overly crowded, which adds to the overall tranquility of the place. Whether you're looking to take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline or simply sit back and enjoy the scenery, this beach offers the perfect environment to unwind and recharge. It's a hidden gem.

Peninsula Hot Springs, located in Fingal on the Mornington Peninsula, offers a range of bathing and wellness experiences. The expansive 42-acre site features over 70 globally inspired bathing experiences, including geothermal mineral waters flowing from deep underground. Visitors can explore various pools, saunas, steam baths, and reflexology walks set amidst rolling hills and coastal bush.
Always such a lovely day out visiting the Hot Springs! Absolutely love the steam room! Doing your own body scrub leaves your skin feeling soft & leaves you nice & relaxed! All the bathing spots are very relaxing, especially the ones with jets. It’s a very nice way to spend the day pampering yourself & spending time with friends & family. Weekdays aren’t as busy & less kids if you’re wanting to escape their noise. There are a few areas that are kid free (but could do with a few more). The pop-up adult only tapas & wine bar was beautifully styled & the food was amazing! The service was friendly. The clay body painting activity was fun! Locker, robe & towel hire is great, no need to bring your own & have wet things to go home with (also it can leave a permanent funny smell to your towels/bathers so easier to use theirs). One trip recently we had all of our dry dressing gowns taken intentionally & the people left behind their soaking wet ones grrrr, management replaced them without hesitation, so after that we now tie our thongs to the belt of the dressing gowns so no one could take ours! A little bit pricey the last few years, it jumped up significantly after Covid, bit expensive now for a family day out, but still well worth a trip! Highly recommend!

We had a truly wonderful day out at Peninsula Hot Springs on the Mornington Peninsula. The whole experience, bathhouse, food, drink and setting, was just superb. From the moment we arrived the peaceful natural surroundings set the tone. We enjoyed lunch as part of our visit, opting for a delicious platter set for 2 which came with a drink. The platter was beautifully prepared, generous in portion and filled with great flavours. The included drink was the perfect addition to our meal. The attention to detail in the dining room (by the springs), fresh, thoughtful and relaxing. The seamless transition from lunch to spa/bathing with ease and comfort. The staff were attentive and welcoming, making what could have been a routine outing feel like a real treat. The location on the Mornington Peninsula is ideal: scenic, easy to get to and far enough from the city to feel like an escape.

We visited Peninsula Hot Springs ♨️ in the late evening with family, and it was such a relaxing experience. Though a bit crowded, the atmosphere was calm and enjoyable. The place is very kids-friendly, with pools of different temperatures perfect for all ages. The hilltop pool was the highlight offering a stunning panoramic view, especially during sunset. The warm water and cool evening air made it unforgettable. Despite the crowd, it was worth it and a great family experience overall.

For my birthday celebration, we had made a reservation to experience this unique offering in Melbourne, and we thoroughly enjoyed the location and everything the peninsula had to offer. It is highly recommended, especially during the winter months, for relaxation and quality time with a partner or a group. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, and the view was absolutely stunning. It was truly the best experience. Thank you very much.✨️🥂

I always have a wonderful time at Peninsula Hot Springs. I do the Fire and Ice experience whenever I am there. I dread it but I love the challenge and how fantastic I feel afterwards. On my latest visit (10-10-2025) they had the Sauna Aufguss experience on offer and apparently only for a limited time of a few weeks so if you are seeing this and the time frame suits, I highly recommend the Sauna Aufguss experience. I loved it so much that after it was finished I went and booked in for the next session so that I could do it twice. The atmosphere at the Hot Springs is so relaxing and totally beautiful. It really is very well landscaped and planned. There are so many different themed areas where you can visit and all of them are beautiful and comfortable. The staff are always smiling, helpful and friendly. The food on offer in the cafe is reasonably priced and very nice. This is one of my favourite places and I love to visit quite a few times a year and have always had a wonderful time and a positive experience.
Mandy — Google review
My husband and I went here for a day visit. Firstly the lady's at reception are super welcoming and very friendly. There are plenty of pool options, you will have to get comfortable with the idea of bathing with strangers 😂 because it is super busy, but once you move past that it is really quite lovely. Even the walk around to the different pools is lovely. They offer lots of options to relax, hammocks, bean bag style chairs, benches and big domes you can go into to lay down. The hill top pool was definitely a highlight, offering a 360° view of the surrounding hills. But a personal favourite was the cave pool. I will definitely be coming back on my next Melbourne trip!

I had an incredible experience at the Hot Springs! We opted for the Dine & Bath package, and it was absolutely worth it. I’d visited before for general bathing, but this took it to a whole new level. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional throughout our visit. One of the highlights was spending time in the Spa Dreaming Centre — it was incredibly calming and relaxing. We also enjoyed the general bathing area, which was just as lovely. The entire property is serene and beautifully maintained, with immaculate gardens that added to the peaceful atmosphere. Truly, it felt like a little slice of heaven. I look forward to returning again

Very enjoyable visit. Loved all the different bathing pools. Our dip in bathing barrels was amazing. Our light lunch was perfect. The hill top bathing was very busy and unfortunately people swapped our dry robes for wet ones - recommend you keep an eye on your robes. Flinders Street Railway Station is a true gem nestled in the heart of Melbourne, boasting a stunning yellow facade and an iconic dome that has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike since its opening in 1909. This architectural marvel, with its grand arched entrance and Romanesque Revival style, serves as both a bustling transport hub and a beloved meeting point for generations.
Flinders street railway station is an absolute icon of Melbourne. Known for its spectacular architecture, this train station is a landmark and a central hub for trains. A lot of trams and trains pass by, and through the station day, after day, after day. Buy hey, it's a station, and that's what it's made for. It's a very busy and packed station, so try not to miss your train. Anyways, what I'm saying is, it's a great station. It just is. Would like to see again.

Notably, it was also the location of Australia's first Parliament in 1901.
Such a beautiful place to spend a peaceful afternoon! The Royal Exhibition Building looks stunning — the architecture is just amazing, especially with the fountains in front. The Carlton Gardens around it are so calm and green, perfect for a walk, photos, or just sitting by the pond watching the ducks. It’s one of those spots that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. It looks extra majestic in the lovely Carlton Gardens, and the Dome Tour you can do through the Melbourne Museum is absolutely wonderful, providing a lot of detailed history and some really unique and incredible views. Definitely worth checking out an expo here even if its just to admore the building. Photos attached are from when I went to the flower show

The building is marvelous just like Melbourne’s old name, the Marvelous Melbourne. The Dome Guided Tour is fantastic, the professional guide Phil told us loads of fascinating stories about the building and the city it is located in. In the main hall, Phil showed us the paintings and their history. And then we went upstairs to the rooftop, enjoyed the great views and checked out the golden top which is made of real gold. We went into the basement with a little exhibition about the building. And we went back to the main hall to end this tour. I love this experience. It’s a great landmark of Melbourne. It represents the good old times of its city. And we should do more to conserve it and make it last for our future generations.

Nestled in the Dandenong Ranges, the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden spans 36 hectares and is renowned as Melbourne's premier cool-climate garden. Formerly known as The National Rhododendron Garden, it boasts a vibrant display of over 15,000 rhododendrons, 12,000 azaleas, 3,000 camellias, and 250,000 daffodils.
The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden is honestly stunning. The colours in spring are next level rhododendrons, azaleas, cherry blossoms everywhere. It’s big enough that you can wander for ages, but it still feels peaceful and not overcrowded. What I love most is how calm it feels. You’re just walking, surrounded by flowers and fresh mountain air, and it kind of forces you to slow down. If you’re into nature, photography, or just want a break from the city, this place is a gem. Totally worth the trip.

We got there a little too late to do it justice. But WOW! The rhododendrons were magnificent. The colour range simply amazing. The trees and ferns going there were also beautiful. The beds of azaleas were also stunning and I think there are still a few weeks of god flowering to come. It was super busy parking and a little crazy.

An Absolutely Amazing Day Out at the Dandenong Ranges National Rhododendron Garden! My recent visit to the National Rhododendron Garden was absolutely amazing—a truly beautiful escape into nature! The colours and scents of the gardens were breathtaking, providing a serene and relaxing environment perfect for strolling and exploring. I was particularly impressed with the facilities and overall accessibility. Finding a ( not very well-maintained) toilet was not easy, but having at least such a thing in the middle of the garden was very helpful. And the on-site shop was a wonderful surprise. I loved that we could buy some plants to take home and enjoy the garden's beauty a little longer while having ice creams. Crucially, the garden is highly commendable for its wheelchair entrance, ensuring that this stunning natural retreat is accessible to everyone. The staff have clearly made an effort to make the experience comfortable and enjoyable for all visitors. If you are looking for a beautiful, tranquil, and well-equipped garden experience in the Dandenongs, I highly recommend a visit. We can't wait to return!

Visited in mid-October with an elderly. The flowers were stunningly beautiful. We did not walk through the entire garden, only the area near the entrance including Chelsea Australian Garden, and it was already enough for us. We spent about two hours there. My mother really enjoyed taking her time to admire the flowers slowly. It is great and free to visit. There are several toilets in the garden. The souvenirs were not overpriced as well. Highly recommended.

Beautiful gardens!! Very well maintained. Gentle slopes, saw kookaburras and a lyre bird, was hoping to see a wombat but just saw some signs saying they were causing mischief instead. Get there before or around 10am if you want to enjoy the peace and scerenity and avoid crowds.

Stunning Botanical Garden! Gorgeous trees and flowers and huge variety of plants, the Australian Garden is not only beautiful but extremely interesting and has lots of informative plaques to go with it. Parking can fill up quick, especially on spring days with good weather so I recommend getting in early! You'll want lots of time to look at everything anyway, it's a huge park.

Beautiful and peaceful! One of my favorite places in Victoria — stunning gardens, fresh mountain air, and vibrant colors in this sping season. A perfect spot to relax, walk, and enjoy nature. 🌿✨

Beautiful place to explore and appreciate God’s creation. Have been coming back to see the Rhododendrons in Oct/Nov with the family for many years now and it’s always amazing to see newer parts of the garden becoming more established. Parking is reasonable, but you may have to drive around for a bit on busy days.

The Sun Theatre is an art-deco cinema located near Yarraville train station that offers a diverse range of arthouse films with excellent digital picture and sound quality. The venue has been well-maintained over the years, featuring period decor and comfortable armchairs with ample space. The cinema fosters a great vibe and ambiance, complemented by small tables between seats for added convenience. In addition to its cinematic offerings, there are many dining options available in the surrounding neighbourhood.
Been a local western suburbs person for most of my life, and amazingly, this was my first visit to the Sun Theatre. First, I was greeted by a very friendly young man at the counter/kiosk who advised me where to go to the right cinema room and provided hot, fresh popcorn and a drink. Both were lovely. I watched "The Accountant 2" in the La Scala theatre room. The lounge chairs were extremely comfortable. The cinematic experience was fantastic in the retro-style room. The vision and sound were excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend the Sun Theatre. I'll definitely be going again and have even signed up as a member. Thank you for a wonderful day.

Loved the theater, seats comfy and popcorn great. Movie stared 16 minutes latest stopped 15 minutes at end an someone had to get staff in to fix. This made next session late too.

Absolutely love this cinema. Wish I lived closer. Incredible vibe and decor. Amazing staff. Delicious popcorn.

A great cinema experience reminding me of the old cinemas of the past. If you like Art Deco, this is an ideal place to visit. Catching the train to Yarraville Station is one of the easiest ways to get there. Unique selection of choc tops too! If you arrive too earlier, go to the adjoining book shop for a browse.

Sun Theatre in Yarraville was awesome – not packed like the usual theatres, so you could actually enjoy the movie. Seats were comfy as hell, legroom was decent, and the whole vibe felt relaxed and classy. None of that commercial chaos, just a solid, smooth cinema experience. Will definitely go again.

I only discovered Sun Theatre recently, but after 20 years of avoiding cinemas I'm now seeing a movie a week. Great, classic venue with super comfy seats (even better if your film is showing in one of the 2-3 rooms with two-person lounges), cheap popcorn and drinks, really nice staff and the membership pays for itself the first time you use it then keeps on paying. Surrounded by great bars and restaurants, and shows a great mix of new releases and classics. So happy I found it :)

Beautiful restored art-deco cinema and a genuine jewel of the West. If you're a regular movie-goer the Sun membership is fantastic value and a great way to show support to such a lovely establishment.

Lovely little cinema, tucked away in a lovely little strip of shops and cafe's. Very friendly staff. We were in the Grand cinema which was completely accessible, as well as the cinemas entry and it had a fully accessible restroom in the lobby. Would recommend and we'll definitely be back again.

A beautiful and peaceful spot for a picnic! The low crowds make it worth paying for a memorial picnic if you plan to spend more than a couple of hours here. Please note that a separate ticket is required to visit the mansion, in addition to the entry fee. There’s a guided tour available approximately every hour. The estate is well-maintained, with several charming bridges crossing the lake, offering unique views. If you're up for a little adventure, there’s also a viewpoint accessible via a short climb.

Impressive place. Some interesting history. Highly recommend the mansion your. However you don't get to see all the rooms and no access to the tower. Nice place for a picnic. Cafe is very limited so byo food and drink.

The mansion is very beautiful and well preserved. The tour was just a small group of 10-15 people so it’s not overcrowded. The tour guide who is a local is very informative of the estate and its surroundings’ history. You can also explore the garden and grounds after the tour. The garden tour was $15pp and for an additional $10pp, you get to have a guided tour inside the mansion as well.

Rippon Lea Estate is one of Melbourne’s most breathtaking wedding venues - rich in history, elegance, and charm. As a wedding stylist, it’s an absolute joy to work within such a stunning and well-preserved heritage space. The venue’s versatility is a dream - whether couples are after a romantic garden ceremony, a sophisticated outdoor reception, or an intimate dinner inside the mansion, Rippon Lea can bring it all to life. Beyond the beauty of the estate itself, the team is a true standout. They are professional, accommodating, and deeply experienced when it comes to hosting seamless, high-end events. Their attention to detail and collaborative approach make the planning and execution process smooth from start to finish, which is so important from a stylist's perspective. Abbotsford Convent, a nonprofit cultural center located in a picturesque and historically rich setting, is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and admirers of architecture. Once a convent for thousands of girls, it has been transformed into a thriving hub for arts and culture. The site offers diverse attractions such as galleries, studios, cafes, and sprawling gardens to explore. Visitors can participate in art classes or workshops, enjoy live music performances, or savor meals at on-site eateries.
This place is very close to the city, yet the buildings from the 1800s are so well preserved. The surrounding architecture and nature are absolutely beautiful. It felt like a scene from a movie or a painting — I was completely satisfied with the atmosphere.

I’ve photographed many weddings at Abbotsford Convent and it’s such an iconic Melbourne venue. The mix of historic architecture and lush gardens create endless photo opportunities. I love wandering the grounds with my couples and never having to go too far to find beautiful spots. The reception space is such a great blank canvas to make your own. Always love working here!

As a photography enthusiast, Abbotsford Convent is an absolute dream location! The grounds are stunning, with a mix of beautiful gardens, historical buildings, and incredible textures that make for endless creative opportunities. The atmosphere is so peaceful and inspiring. A special shout-out to the bakery - the ham, cheese, and tomato croissant was, without a doubt, the best I've ever had!
Christine's P — Google review
Went to Abbotsford Convent recently for a walk in the afternoon and had a fantastic time! If you enjoy art, gardens, good food and just wandering, this place ticks a lot of boxes. The buildings are beautiful with its old convent architecture, courtyards, heritage mix. There are art studios, galleries, creative workshops going on, so there’s always something interesting to see. You don't have to participate, but you can walk along, take a peek and feel inspired by the artistry. The grounds are big enough that it never feels too crowded. The gardens, lawns, shady trees are great for sitting with a book, having a picnic, or meeting a friend for coffee. The cafe and bakery near the entrance are solid. Good treats with nice settings. Around the back of the property there's a nice walking path where you can see some animals like ponies and sheep, which are a favourite with the kids. Parking can be a bit tricky, so plan a bit ahead of time. And wear comfy shoes, because there’s quite a bit of walking if you want to explore all the corners. Overall, it’s one of my favourite inner‑Melbourne spots to relax, soak up some art, and enjoy a nice food & nature combo. Would go back easily.

I recently had the pleasure of conducting a wedding at the Abbotsford Convent in Collingwood, and it was absolutely beautiful. The chapel is stunning — elegant, peaceful, and with exceptional acoustics that made the ceremony feel so special. The staff were wonderfully helpful and accommodating, ensuring everything ran smoothly. The grounds are also breathtaking, offering so many picturesque spots for photos and quiet reflection. A truly memorable venue for any wedding or special occasion!

Beautiful and restful picnic on the grass under the gorgeous trees or enjoy the cafe. The staff are so friendly and I loved the food. Delicious croissants. Great coffee. If you want to see native birds in Victoria, this is one of the best places to visit. Dandenong Ranges forest is gorgeous wherever you go in all seasons, beautiful forest with lovely picnic grounds and walking paths. Cockatoos were all over the place, and they are not a shy lot that’s for sure 😅 The shop was closed as we were there quite late in the afternoon (althought the area was full of visitors) so I can’t give a review on that, we’ll have to be back to check it out.

Bird feeding has been permanently closed since 2020. The souvenir shop is also leaving by the end of June. Unsure about the future of Cafe. It is a shame to lose the bird feeding experience but I guess it’s better for the health of wildlife.

A nice area to view the wildlife and take a moment to relax. The bird viewing platform and ground area is a nice tourist idea but sadly takes away from the joy of the location that it once had. Overall parking is fairly good and well spaced, the nearby shops offer a number of food items and tourist trinkets and souvenirs for the average tourist.

Visited in 11.06.2023. Nature at its best. It was a great place to walk on a winter morning or summer. Though in winter the tracks can be a little slippy, wear good shoes. After the walk, make sure to stop at the cafe for a bite, and the souvenir shop is filled with wonderful things.

Just about 50kms from CBD. Quite and not crowded at all. Went on a weekend. Few trails that are even accessible by people with limited mobility. Kids will love these short but immersive walks. Good roads to reach this place. Cafe right by the entrance. Heaps of parking for cars and even buses. BBQ area available, not just one but saw few areas, very near to the parking bays. Can get real close to small birds, but make sure you don’t feed them. Make sure you go for walks and look for wildlife, I was not lucky enough to spot any. Toilet available. Few sheds with roofs, just in case if it rains. Cafe and the gift shop looked attractive. Will recommend spending 2 to 3 hrs for walk and bonus is that the famous Puffing billy is not very far from this place.

Graeme F — Google review
We ate at The Conservatory Restaurant upstairs at Studley Park Boathouse. The battered rockling with salad and chips was very good. My friends also enjoyed their green bowls and burger. This area has recently been renovated and looks great. The bar area has green tiles, copper and brass fittings and a high counter where you pay the bill. Toilets are clean and sympathetically reflect the Victorian period of the Studley Park Boathouse. Some tables are located near the windows which overlook the Yarra River and outdoor dining area. We chose to sit closer to the bar area as there was a large and noisy group sitting at a long table close to the windows and the view. More staff are needed. We waited quite some time to place our orders and then to receive our food and drinks. Food is not wildly overpriced, but still $32 for fish and chips is more than I usually pay. The outdoor dining areas have tables with umbrellas and also a covered outdoor area. This has a curved canopy with a plastic roof and a vinyl cover on sides so it's protected from the elements, but you can see the beautiful surroundings. Cute Ice Cream Caravan in the grounds. I've taken grandchildren to buy icecreams and they're yummy. The Halloween decorations looked fantastic too.

What a find, so close to the city. We love bringing our dogs for a long walk along the rough track (which admittedly can be a bit cluttered at peak times, like every place in Melbourne) and love stopping in at the boathouse for a coffee. Such a great spot

This place is really nice for an outing. There’s a nice bbq and picnic area by the Yarra river, and also a casual dining restaurant with indoors and outdoor seatings with great views. We saw someone catch a big fish here, so you can do that here too. The bridge shake a little if you stomp on it, but you can see people canoeing, ducks, and nice scenery of the brown river. Food: order and pay with the QR code. The menu options were good, everything looked good and couldn’t decide. The pricing is a little bit on the expensive side - average $30pp. Overall: Nice ambience, location, vibe, boat/canoe hire available, good food. Great for families, birthday or a date.

Was on the tour yesterday at 15.00. From the moment we redeemed our tickets I should have known we wouldn’t have a good experience. The 2 girls on the booth didn’t have very good customer service. By all means it wasn’t awful it was just very blunt. When we got on the boat it was nice. I don’t think it was dated like a lot of reviews say. There were free hot drinks, but no milk on the table. That was rectified shortly after. Captain started speaking and I was like okay this sounds good and then he hands it over to the mate. A young guy who we couldn’t understand 60% of the time. He mumbled, spoke quickly and his delivery was so flat. There was no enthusiasm like there was with the captain. I’ve never felt so bored and robbed of my money. The way back, music just played and both were on their phones. I would not recommend as a must when visiting Melbourne

With gentle waves lapping the shore and a fresh sea breeze in the air, it’s an ideal retreat whether you’re there to unwind, swim, or simply soak in the natural beauty. Above the waterline, the sky opens up in a vast, serene canvas of blue, painted with fluffy clouds that drift lazily overhead. The atmosphere is open and welcoming — not just from nature, but from the people too. Locals and visitors alike exude a genuine politeness and warmth, creating a space where you can truly relax and feel at home. Whether you’re watching boats glide peacefully across Port Phillip Bay, admiring the distant rolling hills, or just strolling along the foreshore with an ice cream in hand, Sorrento Beach is a peaceful gem where nature and kindness meet.

Sorento Beach is awesome! Perfect for a walk, picnic, or a splash in calm waters. Heads up: parking's tough on busy days. Great for families with kids – the shallow water stays warm and peaceful, even when it's windy. Lots of shady spots, grass, benches, and clear water. Super nice place!

One of my all time favourite places just beautiful

This beach is really connected to my heart. I love this beach ❤️ and people who visit this place have a great time for sure. Except for car parking, that is why i have always plan to visit the London bridge first then I come here before my ferry time. And drive from Queens cliff to all the way to home. Never disappointed on my last four trips. 🤟
Rohit P — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful spots for a picnic lunch. The weather is fab and the area is super vibrant. There are nice cafes and beautiful lanes around. A ferry ride from Queenscliff, picnic at the beach here and having quick bites at a cafe nearby would mean a perfect day!

Melbourne Street Art Tours offer a captivating exploration of the city's vibrant street art scene. Visitors can join guided walking tours or opt for an electric bike tour to get up close to iconic graffiti pieces in laneways like Hosier Lane, Degraves Street, and AC/DC Lane. These tours provide ample opportunities for photos and insights into the artistic styles and stories behind the artworks. Additionally, exploring Melbourne on foot or by bike along the 29.
We had a wonderful tour today with David. Although we are Melbourne locals, David was able to give us insight into both the street art scene, as well as lots of other aspects of Melbourne we didn’t know. The tour ended up in the studio where we were warmly welcomed by all the artists and given a comprehensive tour of the artists work spaces. The tour was a gift to my wife and won me many brownie points! The standard of the art we saw was amazing. This tour gave us a better understanding of the amount of thought and talent that went into creating these works of art. We have a new found appreciation of street art which adds to our enjoyment of all these special spaces.

What an immersive experience. Our tour guide Tom was passionate and knowledgeable about all the street art, artist and culture. Getting to see the studios of lots of the artist was just the icing on the cake. I saw my own City with new eyes. Absolutely loved it.

We had a great time walking around Melbourne to see the street art from graffiti, to murals. David is such a wonderful tour guide, he brought us to all the great art on the street and he explained all the art clearly. He was very informative and we enjoyed the experience.

Highly recommend this tour if you’re into exploring the city with a local guide who can show you street art you would never find otherwise. Matt was awesome and told us stories about the art and artists you’re looking at - he was very genuine as one of the street artists himself, quite special. It was the perfect way to start a 4 day stay in Melbourne. Loved ending with visiting his co-op art space and an explanation on how these tours fund them all - thanks!

SO COOL! Had a wonderful day. the blenders crew is a bunch of beautiful people and Barek is such a kind tour guide with heaps of knowledge ! Loved it

I took my daughter, who is a young artist on this tour and it was amazing. The artist who took us on the tour was outstanding, she talked art with my daughter(which I didn’t understand much😂), inspiring her to follow her passion even though it’s not street art. We really enjoy Melbourne from different angles, different view points, it was really interesting.
