We came during the Lebaran period and the shop was closed. When they finally reopened on 04-Apr-2025, it was packed, even at 3pm midday. Was told a full house during dinner is normal for this establishment.
On to the food, there is nothing comparable. The noodles are in a league of their own. My wife who is a regular patron since her Uni days told me to take the wet version (basah) and it did not disappoint.
We will definitely revisit when we come back to Medan City.

The spices here is quite spicy, I usually go for Mie Aceh Basah and Nasi goreng aceh which is very affordable and if you wish to go for the special one, I would recommend Mie Aceh SPC
A standard food resto/stall which sells mie aceh, nasi goreng aceh, martabak and roti canai. The mie aceh is very tasty and a bit spicy from the spices.
This restaurant is always busy full of mie Aceh fans. People said that you haven't visited Medan if not tasting menus of this cafe. You can order mie with many kind of additional mixes such as seafood, meat, innards with variety of spicy. Taste is very good.
The best Mie Aceh I've ever tasted. The taste is just right, the portion also just enough. I ordered Mie Aceh with Shrimp and Squid. The shrimp was plenty. Even after I've finished all the noodles, there were still some shrimps left. I also ordered Roti Cane with condensed milk. It also tasted amazing. You can taste some kind of butter in Roti Cane. Really great. I've come here twice and it was always crowded. But no wonder, with this kind of great dish, people will always come here
This is one of medan most popular Mie Aceh you should try. Price are really affordable. You can mix and match the toppings : shrimps, calamari, beef and the most favorite here is crab.

Mie Zhou is a delicious and spicy noodle shop that offers a variety of noodles in different sizes. The noodles are very tasty, and the shop also has a variety of appetizers and main dishes to choose from. Prices start at around IDR 20,000.
I have been a loyal customer of this place for at least 5 years now. Everything on the menu is so good (tasted so delicious). If you are a first timer coming to this place with empty tummy you should try their signature “Mie dandan kuah”, you can adjust the spicyness of the soup.. and my current favorite is “Nasi Sapi”, but unfortunately they don’t serve Nasi sapi everyday, it is available on the weekend and wont last long, so make sure you come earlier. ( and i think this is Halal place for muslim, since they don’t serve pork).

TLDR : This place is worth to try for a noodle lover. While the price is slightly above average, the quality and taste make it worth trying. The shop's accessibility and comfortable environment add to its appeal. If you're in Medan and craving hearty noodles, Mie Zhou is a place to consider.
Recently visited this place and ordered the Dan Dan Noodle Jumbo. It costs at IDR 45,000, which I think is on higher end compared to other competitor like Sinar Utama. The noodles were chewy and satisfying, topped with minced chicken, and a spicy sesame-based sauce. The flavor was bold and aromatic, though the spice level was quite intense, even at level 2. For those sensitive to heat, it's better to order for Level 1.
The place is quite simple, It's clean and well-maintained, but with no air conditioning, only fans to keep the place comfortable. During my visit, the place was not crowded, allowing for a relaxed meal. Parking is convenient, with spaces available across the street.

I must have 2 bowls of noodle here everytime I visit this store. The Dan Dan noodle and Ayam Special noodle. Prices are a bit premium for the local standard but it's worth the taste in my personal opinion.
We ate a “spicy” noodle soup which to my surprise was seasoned with a lot of pepper (instead of chillies). Being used to spicy Thai food, the pepper killed in my opinion the whole dish. We then tried pangsit udang nano nano, which tasted good

Lontong Kak Lin is a popular food stall in Medan, known for serving delicious traditional vegetable rice cake breakfast. Located across SMA 1, it offers a variety of tempting side dishes such as eggs, fried chicken, and rendang. We tried variety of lontong and they all tasted superb. But their daun singkong in my meal were bitter, kinda ruined the breakfast.
Ordered teh tarik but the waitress forgot abt it and it didn't came. The rest were good - fast service, friendly waitress explaining the menu.

After looking at some recommendations for authentic Indonesian the cuisine (non-chinese influenced), i decided to give this a try and it was near my hotel.
I ordered lontong sayur, lupis and had sate kerang (cockles). The lontong was good for my taste buds - delicious but not noteworthy. Portion is decent. The gravy is quite spicy. The crackers don't heighten the flavor profile either. Lupis had the right texture not too hard, the syrup was sweeter.
Staff was quick to take order and not offering me a look at the menu. It was my first time, perhaps should not assume I know the menu? Upon payment, they do not provide receipt as well.
For non-indonesians, don't be surprised when they serve you sate kerang and an assortment of fried snacks when you dine in even though you didn't order. You won't be charged for these unless you consume them.
I would recommend this place for tourists who are seeking authentic Indonesian cuisine. As for me, it's not something I would visit often.
Great authentic food here. You must try their Lontong Medan, which is their specialty here. It tastes very good. I think they put some peanut paste in the Lontong menu, which makes its flavor rather unique and delicious. Recommended
I ordered Lontong with beef rendang. The food taste okay overall, I had better before. The lontong is firm and cooked perfectly. It is spicy, be careful if you dont like to eat spicy food, you might want to ask the waiter/server not to put the sambal or spicy vegetable dishes.

Legend cuisine when you visit Medan City. The best food is nasi goreng, served with a delicious crumble or sunny egg. But less people know, the Satay was yummy as well, sold right beside it.
People are here for the fried rice (dinner) and it used to be the best. This was during the 90s. The recent dinner there was just ordinary. Order the orange juice here and other side dishes like satay and martabak to complete your meal. Tables may be full on most evenings (weekend).
One of the oldest fried rice in Medan city centre. One plate of fried rice comes with topping either chicken or beef, and fried egg costs. It costs Rp16,000 (S$1.60). Fried rice is tasty and full of "wok hei". The egg is fried with margerine and its aroma is awesome.

The service is satisfactory and the restaurant itself is decent. However, it should be noted that for Muslims, the prayer room is situated separately from the restaurant, requiring a short walk to reach it. During busy hours, this place can become extremely crowded so it's advisable to visit outside of peak times.

The food overall tastes good, but the chicken noodle soup and meatballs taste really good! The drinks, especially the aloe vera tastes good too. Service is okay, the place is not bad, but for muslims, the prayer room is located separately from the restaurant so you'll need to walk a little bit (approx. 100 m) to reach it. In peak hours this place can get really really crowded, so it's best to visit before or after peak hours.

Another local speciality with a notable taste. It called mie sop, a bowl of various noodle with chicken soup. A bowl of mie sop here could be noodle, beehoon, or kwetiaw with soup, the toppings are chopped javanese-style fried chicken and chicken meatball. The soup and beehoon remarkably delicious I must say. While the chopped-chicken will leave a good impression and make you keep coming back another days to get more. Talk about the atmosphere of the place, it won't make us stay too long after done eating. You'll feel a little crowded and warm inside. Toilet available.

Customers have the option to choose from various accompaniments such as chicken, shrimp, lungs, or babat. A side of perkedel pairs perfectly with the soto and warm rice.
Fast service. Good soto broth, not too salty or peppery. I picked the beef and lungs option (daging + paru) with no rice and accompanied it with two hash browns (perkedel), although three would have been better.

A big bowl of Mie Pansit Akun will change the day. The broth is very rich in taste, I think they use 2 or more kinds of broth on the soup. The noodle, which is Keriting apparantely, taste smooth and soft crunchy at the same time. They also got Chicken Noodle for you who bored of pork.

Very successful noodle seller started in Beruang wet-market, and have now been selling in town. If you like a tasty dry noodle packed with strong flavors, then u must give this a try. The texture of its noodle is very good, not too soft or too hard. Remember to add egg on it and its chili is pack with additional flavor that is worth trying even if u cant take spiciness.
The noodle taste is really meaty and strong. Accompanied with herbal based soup, you will find an interesting combination of flavours in your mouth. When you pay you will realise that this is one of the most underrated noodle in Medan as of now.

Rooms were clean and adequate. No aircon but with Berastagi being in highlands it wasn’t necessary for us.

The owner is very helpful to let you arrange things, beautiful view from the balcony and peaceful location outside the centre. The pizzas were good enough for the price but don't get high expectations if you like Italian pizza. The room was comfortable but poor WiFi connection. The guide prayogi was also very helpful and friendly.

We had two lovely days in Berastagi with Leo ! He takes care of us and was very nice. He recommanded good adresses.
The volcano trek was so good with a beautiful sunrise.

A very cosy and lovely place to stay. Just off of the main road so it is very peaceful to stay here. The breakfast was nice and the pizza was good enough if you fancy some western food. The room was very clean, bed was super comfy and the owner and staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. We would highly recommend staying here and renting a scooter from them to explore Berastagi!

I haven't personally dined in at Ayam Goreng Lombok Ijo yet, so this review will solely focus on their food. From what I've heard, their ayam bakar is possibly the best in Medan. The sauce is delicious and has a smoky-sweet flavor without being overly spicy. The chicken itself is tender and comes in a good portion size.

Served with a perfect scoop of white rice, a few slices of cucumber and both a sweet sambal (similar if not identical to the glaze on the grilled chicken) and a more traditional pure-spicy sambal.

Only the live guitar music saved it from a one star. Decor looks attractive and Friday music attracted us. However, frustrated as it took 1 1/4 hour to get ONE pizza ( there were only 12 customers in the place!). What arrived was a sad excuse for a pizza - layer of crispy dough smothered with melted commercial cheese sandwich slices. With limited customers, a lot of competition, frankly, Franky needs a lot of improvement to stay in business, without the music.

I'm having this #mieaceh becek which is recommended by one of my 'Food Ohana'.
The thick yellow noodle are served in rich, #hot and #spicy curry-like soup.
The #bumbu spice mixture consist of black pepper, red chili pepper, shallot, garlic, cardamom, caraway, cumin and star anise.
The #noodle and spices are cooked with bean sprouts, tomato, cabbage and celery.
Then sprinkled with fried shallot, and served with #emping , slices of shallots, cucumber and dash of kaffir lime.
It's slightly sweet, hot, not too spicy and seasoned perfectly.

This dish is so unique.
I can't think of how does #indomie with lontong stir-fried with an egg taste like?
But believe me or not..
It works somehow.
The lontong is soft and firm.
The #instantnoodle is cooked to perfection - not too soft and still has a bite to it.
Both of them are stir-fried in homemade "mamak" sauce and reduced to slightly thick consistency.
It's slightly sweet, slightly spicy, unique, delicious and addicting.
And also the additional crackers, pickled shallot & pickled carrot brings another layer of flavor.
I highly recommend you guys to try this out and shout out to young and handsome foodie @tommyfu9 for recommending me this dish.

This is why: the broth might contains a lot MSG based on my tried, then they didnt put any chicken meat on my plate (since its a must), they will charge your bill if you ask for an extra fried shallot (hey it should be free!), there are so many flies around and only 1 ceiling fan in whole room (i didnt believe it when i came here for my first time and forever), the last thing is you will have some bad service and experience here. The only good thing here is they have some fresh coconut.
