Located near York Minster, The Block is a cozy eatery known for its handmade pizzas and variety of meat and veggie toppings. The place has a NY dive bar vibe with an enormous photo of The Clash on one wall and offers Roman-style rectangular pizza slices with unique combinations like roasted squash, chilli, thyme, goats cheese and spinach. Customers praise the vegetarian options available as well as the great selection of hot sauces.
We stumbled upon Block Pizza while walking through York city center, and it turned out to be a great find! The pizza was absolutely amazing, with fresh ingredients and a perfect crust. The service was excellent too, friendly and efficient. If you're in York and craving a great pizza, totally recommend this place! 🍕🔥

Top pizza, top customer service. No menu, they personally run you through the options which is a great touch. Hot honey pizza was 👨‍🍳🤌🏻. My girlfriend is vegan and had a tomato garlic pizza which, although no cheese, was really good and fresh. 10/10, will be going again!

What an awesome little pizza place! Fresh ingredients and a super fun atmosphere! Great prices and friendly staff! Don't miss out!

One of the best margarita pizza slices I've ever had! Music was a bit loud when we arrived but might have been just that track as it was soon turned down. Overall a fantastic little place for a meal or especially if you're just after a light bite as we were.
Veefource — Google review
Been here a few times for pizza time, great tasting reasonable sized slices. Costs about a fiver, large diverse selection of pizza to choose from. Nice vibe inside, decent staff working here. Perfect casual eating.
James E — Google review
The Block is a great spot for pizza, we popped in for a quick bite and a pint with not much time to spare. You can select which pizzas you want varying from £4-5 and they do you a large rectangular slice cut into 2 (we shared). As a recommendation, it's the perfect spot for a quick bite before doing something else for the evening. Staff were friendly, pizza was nice and they had good music on and a good selection of drinks, including brooklyn lager on draught!
Warrick B — Google review
The Block is great. Amazing Pizza, great atmosphere, fantastic decor and brilliant service. I've walked passed here loads but never been in until today, we'll definitely be back. I love the concept of being able to order different flavoured pizzas rather that just one. They also have a brilliant selection of hot sauces which is rare to find; usually there's a choice or 1 or 2 but there were 10 here (I even got a cheeky sample to take home with me).
James C — Google review
Its such a good place. In Italy we loved these kind of places where you can taste few bits of different pizzas. I would love to have same concept place in our region. Me and my husband ordered each two slices and I was full for all day. Also the staff is so friendly. This place is very popular it was packed with people once we visited.

Falafel Guys is a popular eatery in Leeds known for its relaxed atmosphere and delicious Middle Eastern street food. Originally a street food stall, it has now found a permanent home in Assembly Underground. The menu features a variety of options including meat and veggie falafel wraps, salad bowls, chicken shawarma, halloumi wraps, and mezze options.
Visited Falafel Guys in the Northern Markets and it did not disappoint! Lovely food and even better service. Staff are so lovely and welcoming. The Falafel and Halloumi is their best-seller for a reason! Definitely my new go-to in Leeds :) 5 out of 5.
Aaminah F — Google review
Today was my first time trying falafel guys and I was thoroughly impressed and will definitely be visiting again! I usually find falafel to be hit and miss, but these were the best I’ve ever had - they make, press and cook them right in front of you. These had a nice crispy crust that I’ve not had before. I ordered the Falafel and Halloumi salad box which cost £6. The portion sizes were really perfect - very filling but no food wastage either. My only downside it that they didn’t offer me a pickled chilli (but I very easily could have asked for one so that’s very minor). The service was excellent, they were very friendly and chatty but also fast so I didn’t wait long (4 mins max). They gave me a loyalty card and generously gave me 4 stamps! I would love it if there was a place that I could eat closer to there so I could have the falafel fresh off the press and meet up with friends there at lunch (as my office is 20 mins away) however with the location that isn’t doable so I’ll likely be trying their northern market stall. In summary, the food was excellent. I’ll be going back with friends and family. The pricing is really reasonable with good portion sizes. The perfect treat lunch!
Issy C — Google review
Unfortunately it was not good experience. The guy was slicing the vegies out of the box to the container all at one place with no cleaning or washing. The status of trailer is not represent full and the quality of the food is low. The falafel are fried in old oil, its too obvious. The sauces are mediocre and the bread was not fresh. I dont know but this was my experience, i know falafel the proper way of Egypt, syria, lebanon.. So unfortunately this one was beyond below the bar. Am sorry i know they might be doing thier job and living but the standards are too low The staff was mice patient and helpful.
Nossor B — Google review
My go-to lunch spot for the best freshly made falafel in the area combined with fresh salads and tasty hummus. Wraps, salad bowls, great halloumi and tasty chicken too all with pleasant service and keen prices. Don't be put off by the basic old caravan setup, it works... and if that's not for you they have two other locations in the city.
Michael — Google review
I ordered the falafel and chicken shawarma wrap. All of the ingredients tasted very fresh and delicious especially the falafel and sauce were very tasty. However I do feel like there was not much chicken in the wrap at all. The chicken was also a little dry and under seasoned, even though it was fresh, it didn’t taste like shawarma style chicken That said it was still very delicious overall and I’ll definitely go back here when I want falafel
Adam A — Google review
Best falafel wrap in Leeds ❤️ Vj is the best, he makes you feel welcomed and explains all the ingredients with a smile on his face. The portion is generous and the food is fresh, definitely recommend ❤️🥰

first time here and got their combo deal 1, food was great, tasty, big portions and worth the money! man working there was excellent as well as he offered me a little taster of their hummus! would recommend

The menu also features cakes, smoothies, wraps, and daily soups. This eatery prides itself on using local ingredients and cooking everything from scratch.
We ordered the chicken burrito and the jackfruit one. They were absolutely magnificent, unbelievable! Excellent portion and service. The lad who served us, called goose was very friendly, and the lady with him too. Will definitely come again.

If you want the most amazing sandwich of your life I recommend you stop here for lunch. Oh my god, it was so delicious! The staff where also super lovely and accommodated or preferences to make the sandwich to our exact taste. Trust me, if you're in York you want to eat here!
Alisha R — Google review
Visited shambles kitchen as they are very popular on socials and wanting to try the famous can’t even remember what it is called😂 I think Guy something😂😂well I won’t say it was bad but It just ordinary,( we all have different preferences) not out of the world and definitely didn’t hit my taste bud in the slightest as I have had sandwiches way more tastier and less expensive and that’s why I am giving it a 3! Will definitely try other things from shambles kitchen

My other half was served by a very pleasant young man. He chose the Guy Fawkes beef brisket wrap and it came with a sparkler! We've never seen anything like it! Delicious and what a visionary masterpiece! Well done 👏 😋😍
Krissy P — Google review
The taste was average, but when you get the sandwich they bring out a little firework, which is fun for photos.
Vincent C — Google review
Tried the Truffle Puff sandwich — pulled pork, truffle mayo, lettuce, and parmesan.🥪🧀 I really liked the smoky flavour of the pulled pork, and the bread was nice and soft.
Lucy L — Google review
The sandwich taste is ok. However, the kids all love it.
Amanda L — Google review
Honestly, the sandwich’s and food throughout the year and at Christmas are next level, packed with flavour, perfectly balanced, and made with ingredients that actually taste fresh and real. The meat was tender, the sauces were unreal, and the bread? Fluffy with just the right crunch. To die for. Shambles Kitchen never misses. If you haven’t tried it yet…. you’re seriously missing out.

Poco Sicilian Street Food is a cheerful and casual eatery located at 360 Kirkstall Road, LS4 2HQ. It offers a variety of Italian fare, from pizza to pasta to salads. The restaurant specializes in the delicious and sun-kissed foods of Sicily, offering grab-and-go options like arancini snacks as well as sit-down meals with great coffee and pistachio-filled pastries.
Don't make the mistake that I did and assumed there was some seating area as there is not. I love coming for the cannolis (although they are a bit pricey for the size you get) and this time I got the chocolate filled croissant which was nice. Overall a 7/10
Yasser Y — Google review
So we went in today to get some Pizza and something sweet from our favourite store….sadly it has gone massively down hill, the pizza tasted really old and not as soft as we remember! Then to top it off we took the sweet treats home and went to go eat the Tiramisu Croissant to see MOULD inside! Will not be going back……………..
Kyle B — Google review
Have walked past here a few times and the window display always looks beautiful, and it seems busy whenever I drive or walk past. So decided to have lunch from here on Wednesday. Its different to the "normal" Italian places, it just tastes different, I'm assuming they make and bake everything here, it tasted like they did and there was a chef bringing out food from the back. Anyway, we ordered some pizza slices and a cannoli each, it all tasted great, especially the cannoli 😁 My only gripe is that I prefer thin crust pizzas and they are a little thick here, but they still tasted great. They do a lot of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, if that's what you like. Parking is available at the back or in other side streets and prices are reasonable too. This road is becoming ace for cool food places, it's not far from Smak the Polish kitchen, another of my favourites. I'll definitely come back again and recommend this place highly, if only to stare at the amazing window display 😊👌
Manjit D — Google review
£4 for a simple slice seems a little steep to me Quite a standard slide to be honest I wouldn't say the bread or the toppings stand out in quality to justify the price
Stoby S — Google review
My partner (Italian) recommended this so we made the trip yesterday and it did not disappoint! As we're leaving Leeds soon we won't get another chance to visit so we decided to splash out & spent £34 getting a wide selection!! The food was delicious, so fresh & full of flavour and was filling too - we ended up having it for dinner & tea! Highly recommended!!
Darren B — Google review
Wow just amazing... We are big street food fans... so this place was high up on our list of eateries. As they say best to last. The food is made on the day and is to die for. We ordered calzone which I've eating many but none as good as this. Easy a 10/10 An Italian style sandwich/toastie very very nice. A trio of pastry stuffed with Nutella. You can imagine how good they were. ** edit 06/05/2019 We returned a second time for poco on our way to Manchester for a gig. That's how good this place is we diverted to Leeds for our tea at POCO. It was worth every bite, Sicilian pizza, sandwich and arancini balls pure heaven. So cheap too, can't wait for our next visit. Leeds is so lucky having POCO! **update June 2019 No trip to leeds is complete without a trip to POCO. The food is simply divine. The staff are helpful and cleary very talented. The little cafe is perfect for sitting in or taking away. We took away on this occasion and had a car picnic. Our visit before last we detoured just to eat here. We love POCO. What's even more impressive is how attentive the manager is replying to the reviews that gave negative comments. Clearly only the best will do for this guy, its evident in his food. Now to think of an excuse to visit poco again. *Update 08/09/2019 We popped into POCO on the way to manchester. We got hearty meal between us and as always we were not disappointed. Spicy pizza, parma ham sandwich and a trio of Italian desserts. Definitely worth the detour into leeds.
The W — Google review
Cute selection of traditional Italian savouries and snacks on outside display, and dessert options inside. Prices reasonable. Delicious authentic Italian hot chocolate which I've never had before. Long narrow table for dining in, can take about 3 people max. Seen another Poco on Maps in Headingley too, might check it out.
Arun A — Google review
I have tasted the fantastic pizza many times, but this time I wanted to threat myself to some pastries. Tried the viennese and a couple of the cannoli, was not disappointed. Prices are aligned with the average ones in Leeds, but at least here you can taste a little bit of the Sicilian tradition in pasticceria. Highly recommended.

Pizza restaurant
Cresci Pizzeria is a charming, unpretentious restaurant located on Piccadilly that offers a delightful selection of traditional Neapolitan pizzas and Italian dishes. Since its opening in 2020, it has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors seeking authentic and delectable cuisine at reasonable prices.
I can't give this place anything less than a 5. It's a proper and delicious Neapolitan style pizza. Maybe it's not the best such pizza I've ever had in my life. Maybe vegetarian/vegan options could be more interesting. Maybe hidden tiramisu could be more visible in dessert menu. It doesn't change the fact I left the place super happy, with a stomach full of goodies. And the staff was top-notch! Happy to come back one day again.
Fulbert F — Google review
Absolutely perfect! We tried here for the first time today, while on a short holiday to York. After reading lots of reviews we booked a table for midday - and I’m very glad we did as it filled up almost immediately upon sitting at our table and every table was taken by the time we left! Always a good sign but for a random Wednesday lunch time I was surprised it was as busy as it was! The lady who showed us to our table was so friendly and helpful and the service from start to finish was perfect. She was lovely. We both had the Frittatina Di Bucatini Napoletana Classica to start and this was absolutely delicious - rich and full of flavour. Never able to resist a spicy pizza, we then both had the Calabrese pizza. This was just beautiful. A true, fresh, traditional Neapolitan pizza which had exactly the right amount of fresh and great quality toppings. Fresh, spicy and full of flavour. Cooked perfectly on a wonderful, fresh dough. Just wonderful. Service, atmosphere and value were all perfect and we will definitely return when we are next in York. A true hidden gem, you won’t be disappointed but make sure you book as it is, rightly, very popular! Can’t recommend it highly enough. Wish it was closer to home!
Deb — Google review
We saw this small pizzeria and decided to visit for dinner. We had no reservation but they said they could accommodate us. It only looked a tiny place from the outside, but there was an upstairs dining area. We were quickly seated and told abput the "specials". We decided on a Diavolo and Calabrese pizza and a Moretti beer and Italian sparkling rosè cider. The pizzas were delicious with an authentic stone baked base, straight from the oven. The place was almost full when we left at 7.00pm, says a lot! We paid £37 amd left happy and satisfied.
Wendy S — Google review
Cresci is a stunning independent pizza eatery in the heart of York, and definitely lives up to its outstandingly good reviews. I came here last weekend with my friends and the staff here were so incredibly lovely and welcoming, they made us feel right at home. The restaurant is quite small and intimate, but this is something I personally love and look out for when I’m choosing where I want to eat! The interior is laden with charming Italian style paintings and mosaics, even on the tables where you are eating (which I adored!). If you’re seated by the windows you have a great view of the York streets. I ordered a Capricciosa pizza which had olives, ham and artichokes, with my friends ordering pizzas such as the La Norma, Provola and Napoletana. We all thought the taste and quality of the pizzas were top class, and actually all didn’t speak for the first 15 minutes of tucking into our pizzas as they were that good! The only small** thing I would say that would make the experience here even better would be if the range of teas was more extensive!! I know this is a pizza restaurant so maybe isn’t the top of their priorities but I would have loved to have an Earl Grey tea or something like that, especially as I don’t like carbonated drinks and didn’t fancy a juice or alcohol! This is more my preference though and is no slight to the restaurant! The last thing I would say is that even though we had a 1hr 45 reservation slot and one of my friends was running late, we did not feel rushed at all by the staff. This was greatly appreciated as I have often been to places where they can be borderline rude in trying to get you to hurry up and leave the establishment but we all felt totally relaxed and un-pressured here. Overall, I would highly recommend trying Cresci out for a truly authentic Italian experience in York. The prices are great for the quality of the food you’re getting, it’s located in a great spot, the staff are attentive and friendly and the choice of pizzas is extensive! I can’t wait to come back and try your tiramisu!
Seetal P — Google review
Had to try this pizza place that everyone raves about in York. I ordered the Diavola. Personally I was not blown away (Neapolitan pizzas taste better in Napoli to me) but the pizza was good and done the Neapolitan way: light and spongy dough that can be folded easily, slightly dark spots on the crust and base, and a creamy / acidic sauce that was very tasty. In terms of flavour, you can tell the ingredients are fresh. Very friendly service.
Juan H — Google review
a little bit of italy in york 🍕⭐️! the sauce was delicious, light yet flavory, made us wish we could bottle it and take it home with us!! big enough to share as one pizza is cut in 4 slices. also--try the tiramisu and thank me later!

Silver Street Fisheries is a cozy counter-serve eatery located just a short distance from the harbor in Whitby. It has been highly praised by visitors for serving up traditional and delicious fish and chips. The shop offers outdoor seating, making it a great spot to enjoy your meal during the summer months, or you can opt for takeaway and wander around the charming harbor area.
If you want the best Fish & Chips and to feel like a local, then this is the place to go. You could be in a long queue and pay over the odds for F&C along the main seafront areas...but I paid less than £10 for a decent sized Haddock & Chips, where it would have been £12 on the main stretches...and the only wait is because the food is cooked fresh to order!!!
Steve N — Google review
Your budget will find all possible means of escape in Whitby. This place bucks the trend. Found it on a general walk around & explore. Very friendly, great portions and a fraction of the price of anywhere else I've seen. Was told the chips were made using a first fry at lower temperature followed by a high temperature fry so means a crisper, full-flavoured chip. Had large sausage and chips, curry sauce, a pickled eggs with a shandy for around £7. Top quality. Nice benches terrace/patio at the front to sit in whilst I demolished. Destroyed the wooden fork but they didn't bat an eyelid and gave me two replacements. It's hidden away but well worth making the effort to find. So good I returned the following night.

2023 Edit Still the best Fish and Chips in Whitby by a long shot. Every cooked fresh. Reasonable prices. out of the way . Great place. New favourite spot in Whitby 2022 update: by far the best dish and chips in Whitby. Avoid the crowds at the Magpie and go here instead, you will not be disappointed. Freshly cooked, friendly staff, small seating area outside. Definitely recommend
Karl W — Google review
I’m staggered by some of the previous posts I ordered two haddock and one portion of chips and a portion of 4 small fish for our dog 🐶 the fish was thick and meaty you could actually taste the freshness the batter could have done with cooking a little longer has it was soggy in the middle the girl who served us didn’t seem to be listening too much either I would prefer to see the fish being cooked inside the shop didn’t like the open serving hatch enjoyed what we had
Tony N — Google review
I saw a review online saying this was the best fish and chips - I wasn't disappointed! Freshly cooked fish in the crispiest batter and really good chips too! I'd recommend it to anyone 😊
Ann H — Google review
If you want the best fish and chips in Whitby to take away, Silver Street Fisheries simply can't be beaten. Been coming here for about 10 years now and the quality is as good today as when I first discovered this place.
Timothy W — Google review
Really good fish and chips. A bit of a walk up the hill from the harbour but definitely worth it. Fish cooked fresh and much cheaper than the other chippies in and around the harbour. There are no tables outside now, I assume due to Covid so there is nowhere to sit but there is a bench down the hill and opposite the church.
Peter B — Google review
Wow. I've eaten a LOT of fish and chips over the years, and after a while you get used to the sweaty, mushy chips and thick, greasy, flavourless batter. Enter Silver Street Fisheries. The cod and chips I had was so fresh, the batter so crisp and flavourful, the fish so plump and clean. I've fallen back and love with fish and chips again, bloody delicious! Fish & chips restaurant
"The Chippie" is a traditional fish and chip shop located in Hawes, offering a delightful menu of classic British fare. Visitors can enjoy high-quality fish, such as cod or haddock, served in crispy batter cooked in beef dripping. The establishment provides the option for takeaway or dining in and has received praise for its fresh and delicious offerings. Customers have highlighted the exceptional quality of the food, with crispy chips and flavorful battered fish.
Wow wow wow! Large servings and the cod was amazing! The best part for me was the curry sauce which was magnificent! Ordered a 2nd round of it. Manage to dine in on a Sat Evening & saw a queue for takeaways! It feels like Chippies is making the town feel alive! Must try when in Hawes!
Aaron C — Google review
The best chip shop in the area! The food was so good, I forgot to take a picture until I was halfway through... Safe to say, everything is delicious, freshly made, and high quality. There is a long queue every evening for dinner so get there in good time, even if you want takeaway. The queue is closed at 8pm, but they usually continue serving until the existing queue has been served. There is a free car park with public toilets only a minute walk up the road.

Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Wensleydale Creamery. The fish and chips were overcooked and was too oily (oil temperature too low?). It wasn't really seasoned much either so had to add a lot of malt vinegar and salt. The mayo, tartar sauce, and HP sauce were given in small packets and some of them were expired. Honestly didn't expect much for fish and chips in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales, so I'm not devastated or anything, and I honestly doubt anything else in the area would do much better food-wise. Service was quick and staff were lovely though!

Superb quality fish, fried to perfection, unfortunately the chips weren’t as good as the fish, really scrappy and dry, not terrible, but no way as good as the fish. Having said that, will definitely return if in the area

Visitors have likened it to iconic establishments in major cities, highlighting its inviting atmosphere without exorbitant prices.
Literally the best fish and chips I've had in a long time!!! Fish was thick and delicious. The batter was amazing and crunchy. Mushy peas were good. Service was fast and very friendly. Shame we're on holiday!!! If you're in Filey ...go!!!! 2nd visit. Still bloody amazing again!!!!!!!

Called in here today for dinner. We had fish and chips expecting it to be excellent as we had been before. Oh dear. No longer appears to be cooked in beef dripping. The fish was nice inside unfortunately the batter was a bit greasy as were the chips. We left feeling disappointed as it was so nice last time.
Thomas — Google review
We had the small haddock & chips with mushy peas. All piping hot and nicely cooked. Arrived quickly via the polite and attentive server. £11.30 per head was good value for the quality of food.
David B — Google review
Really sad to be editing my review to a one star.. My dad is a born and bred Yorkshire man so we have been coming up to Filey and Scarborough since I was a young kid. A few months ago we tried the Brown Room as a family and had a wonderful experience when my Dad was there with us to order the food - not sure if this was a coincidence now? I’ve brought my partner up with me on holiday and was excited to show him this wonderful food place that I’d raved about. Unfortunately, we had a starkly different experience when we went last night for a takeaway. Due to the number of other people in there at the time, I can only think our accents or another seemingly personal reason was why we were treated so poorly. We’re both sticklers for manners and to say we felt spoken down to is an understatement. There was a very clear difference to how we were treated compared to the other people in there, how we were spoken to, time for our order to be taken, response to us speaking to her… Truly, it was odd. Neither me or my partner are the type of people to make a scene over that however we both immediately turned to each other upon leaving and said the same. Filthy looks, snide comments and a poor attitude don’t exactly leave a pleasant taste in our mouths… My advice, approach the lady with blonde and brown hair with caution 👍 Food was nice as I had said in my now-deleted review… however a poor attitude soured the entire experience for us. I felt embarrassed having hyped it up immensely to my partner. No other member of staff was rude to us, only her, but it’s surprising how much one person can ruin for you.
Alicia — Google review
Been coming here for many years always enjoyed the fish and chips, but the last twice have been very disappointing the fish was over cooked and very dry. Not the same man frying anymore. Won't go again.
Carol C — Google review
Came here last year so was really looking forward to lunch. I left feeling quite disappointed, the staff were nice but that's where it kind of ended for me. I don't think that beef dripping is used anymore and the price was high for 3 people which came to £44, yes i get that prices have risen but oof!!
Kiggy — Google review
We have dined in here and had takeout when we have stayed in Filey. Unfortunately, the service received today was non existent from the member of staff who took the order in fact downright rude! Filey is a very quiet place when the tourists don’t come. Would be even quieter for some businesses if the staff don’t remember customer service!

Nice fish and chips. They have an eat in restaurant and takeaway. Food was okay but portion could have been bigger for the price.

Absolutely delicious, we had haddock , which was really firm and meaty. The batter was a good coverage and crispy even after the drive home. Chips had perfect consistency and taste and the curry sauce was nicely balanced a solid 8.3 and the service was lovey, the staff seemed very jolly and happy. Will definitely eat from there again.
Matthew H — Google review
Overall to me this is a proper fish and chip shop it's a bonus finding a place that sells both cod and haddock. The ladies behind the counter both friendly and polite. The fish was moist and flakey, the batter even though I asked for lightly battered wasn't over cooked lovely crisp batter. The don't mess about with stupid portion sizes for chips just a decent yorkshire portion which would feed 2 southerners. Only niggle for me was menu board was other side from the till and they call a large fish and fish special and instead of having it under the normal fish it's on other side of the menu board. But other than that I would highly recommend this place if you've got a hankering for something decent and filling. Oh one last thing there's not many places nowadays where you can get fish and chips for a tad under a tenner well chuffed. Will definitely be going back for my Friday fish supper.
Rik L — Google review
Been to Blakleys before, always enjoyed but not yesterday. Chips looked as though they had been warmed up, fish cooked too long so that it broke up when trying to cut it up and fish inside was dry. Did explain to waitress, won't be visiting again

Middle Feast is a Lebanese restaurant in York which serves delicious wraps and boxes, as well as vegetarian options. The service is excellent and the food is of high standards, making it a favourite spot for lunch or dinner. The baklava, sweet sticky nutty goodness is a bonus!
A great takeaway with dining in options. The lamb shwarma was delicious, succulent, perfectly spiced meats with smoky charred edges paired with warm, fluffy flatbread. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with friendly staff who made great recommendations. Portions were generous, and everything felt freshly prepared. If you’re craving real shawarma, mezze, or just a taste of the Mediterranean, Middle Feast is a great option in York. Can’t wait to go back!

I stopped here for some food today whilst walking around york. Got the mixed shawarma with lamb and chicken and the plain chicken shawarma. The food was pretty good, above average, although a little expensive, I think for what it is. I'm not sure if I may have paid a bit more for sitting in. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

Was planning on a burger takeaway and then this popped up so thought we’d give it ago as I know they have an excellent reputation, and they upheld that no doubt. We got a large chicken and halloumi wrap (to share), chips, pickle and olives and 2 baklava. Food was unreal, it’s very rare I finish a full meal, and every single mouthful was devoured. I’ve told everyone about how amazing it was. Will be ordering again 100% thank you middle feast 🥳

We were starving and found this lovely place to eat. The brother let us try sample of the lamb and delicious chicken. Spoilt for choice We ordered a mixed shawarma. The size was amazing- We had to share 1 between us two. Such good value for money and absolutely delicious full of flavour. We tried the spicy sauced version. Loved it.
Sofia B — Google review
Ordered a mixed kebab with rice, hot and spicy chicken wings, chips, mozzarella sticks and chicken bites. The portion of chicken wings included 2x chicken wings and a few chips in the box- how can this be classed as a portion of chicken wings for nearly £5. The food was all cold when delivered, meaning had to reheat on arrival. Salad in kebab was not fresh at all. The mixed kebab did not include enough meat- few pieces of chicken and lamb. We paid just under £40 for this- absolute waste of money and will not be ordering again.

The Street Food Chef in Sheffield is a popular spot known for its vibrant flavors of Mexico and fantastic food. The restaurant was started as a family business with the aim of offering a healthy alternative to fast food, and it has since become a hidden gem in the city. With two locations, one in the city center on Arundel Street and another on Sharrow Vale Road, The Street Food Chef continues to draw inspiration from Mexico while maintaining a conscious approach to all aspects of their business.
Nice and cosy place with a very tasty burrito. I can just recommend the place. Price wise not the cheapest, but that's prices in UK this day's unfortunately 🙂

Got the silver bullet burrito. Cochinita pibil pork with Mexican rice, black beans, salsa verde and chipotle mayo. Decent burrito and excellent size, though the pork wasn’t the most flavourful sadly. Open to trying it again and getting a different combination, but for the most part a very nice burrito.
Daryl M — Google review
The burrito was okay. The ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was prepared well, just a bit lacking in flavor for our taste. The staff were polite and got the food out in a reasonable time. The place was clean and had a relaxed vibe. It's a decent spot if you're nearby and in the mood for something simple and filling.

The Fisherman offers a delightful dining experience with its thick, white and flaky fish, perfectly cooked chips, and delicious mushy peas. While some customers feel that there have been changes in the quality of certain items like the chips, others still find the meals to be tasty and good value for money.
Fantastic chippy! Lovely chips. Amazing batter!!! I really appreciate that when having fish and chips they salt and vinegar the chips, put the fish on and S&V again. The pies were top, amazing flavour and great pastry. Definitely in the top 3 of Yorkshire Chippies

I absolutely love proper, Yorkshire-cooked fish and chips. I wasn't planning to eat here, but I was passing and was drawn in... 1 had haddock, chips and mushy peas. They were delicious! Light, crispy batter on the fresh, flaky fish. Crispy chips with fluffy centres and unctuous mushy peas. Perfect. Very satisfying! Very friendly staff. Definitely recommended.
Dave — Google review
Excellent Fish & Chips. Not cheap, but most places aren't these days. The portion size was decent; with tasty chips & an excellent piece of haddock. The only minor criticism - the fish batter could be improved if it was a bit crispier.

me and my girlfriend visited yesterday (27/6, for our anniversary) based off recommendations and great reviews and it more than lived up to expectations, by far and away the best pizza both of us have ever had. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and made our day even better. would 100% recommend and come back again.

What a hidden gem this restaurant is. Don't let the rather ordinary exterior fool you, this is a really good traditional Italian eatery. Best pizza outside Italy! I've never seen such a magnificent calzone and certainly never eaten one so delicious- thank you Marcos. Will return anytime I'm within an hours drive.
Keith L — Google review
Late lunch was calling for us after exploring Heptonstall. We stumbled across Marco's café seeing their big menu on the windows as well as how busy they were. We chose to sit outside looking over the River Calder. We ordered Margherita and Mediterranean Salad to share between us two, an Italian beer, and Santal peach juice. First of all, the outside view and vibe were excellent. Food and drinks came at reasonable time. Generous portion. Mediterranean Salad was flavoursome with their own special dressing. It was loaded with a variety of ingredients including their homemade focaccia but it may seem a little confused on what kind of salad it really was... Margherita was crispy thin with rich tomato sauce, mild cheese, and a hint of basil. The drinks were also brilliant too. I'd definitely recommend the Santal peach juice especially in this warm weather! The service was good. They were friendly and attentive but there was an issue when settling the bill which was resolved straightaway. I'd suggest putting a number to the table to avoid confusion in the future. We were really full which was good to walk it off exploring Hebden Bridge. We enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend Marco's café for authentic Italian food and homemade focaccia.

Amazing Calzone, pizza & pasta!! Small cafe atmosphere where Italian is freely spoken. Small menu but what they do, they do so well. Everything is freshly made & authentically Italian. Deffo worth a visit when in Hebden!!
Debbie D — Google review
Wow, what a place! First, the decor: Tins of chopped tomato line the shelves - more varieties of chopped tomato than I knew existed - and the walls are adorned with both local artwork and stunning relics from the restaurants Marco’s father had owned in Italy. A highlight was a painted plate, depicting Marco’s father and mother as a chef and what can only be described as a seductress (neither depiction accurate, according to Marco) under the watchful eye of Il Passatore - a roguish Italian highwayman and Robin Hood figure. Second, the welcome: Marco is a delightful man. He came and chatted to us. He told us about Il Passatore. He brought us appetisers made with friarelli, a Neapolitan broccoli so nice my colleague left with a jar! He gave us a delicious and very boozy alpine digestif as we left. He is an excellent host and restaurateur! Third, the food: I had a puttanesca pizza - divine. Homemade chilli sauce to dip the crusts - divine. Friarelli and red pesto appetiser - divine. My colleague had a calzone the size of three-year-old. We ate like kings. I cannot recommend a meal at Marco’s enough. I was in Hebden Bridge for only one week. I simply popped in on my lunch break, and was treated to a meal I will remember for years. I left with a Marco’s Cafe T-shirt - the design a collaboration between his daughter’s artwork and Marco’s own AI skills - which I will wear fondly for a long time. Thank you Marco!
Adam M — Google review

First trip to Marco's cafe on Saturday. Decided to sit outside, it's compact and more suited to 2 persons per table (3 on ours so a bit of jiggling about required but we managed) Basic menu, had pizza, a couple of beers and a glass of wine. The pizzas smelled & tasted great, you get the freshness in the toppings, very nice indeed. The set up won't be for everyone but the food was the star of the show!

A well established bar/social venue. Lovingly themed in a retro style. It's fairly unpretentious and diverse, as long as you can get up the stairs (I don't think there's a lift). It's also dog friendly. The drinks tend to be a really interesting selection, with a lean to craft and independent breweries. There are non-alcoholic beer options. The food is good, although pretty much limited to pizza or a couple of salads. There are several vegan pizza options. As it's open plan, it can be pretty loud at busy times - difficult to have a quiet conversation.

Was lured here by all the rave reviews, but left feeling slightly puzzled by them. I guess Villaggio just had an iffy day at the office; we all have them. The waiters were pleasant enough when we had their attention, but we largely felt a bit invisible to them. Felt like the tables had been divvied up among the waiters, and ours had been left off the divvy-up. The food itself was fine, but no more than that. Didn’t really feel it warranted the superlatives we’d read in the reviews.

We booked for an evening meal based on what we saw through the window as we walked past on a weekend break to York, and we weren't disappointed, far from it, the waitresses were attentive, the food was delicious and good value. Best pizza of our entire UK trip. If we lived in the area this would be our go to pizza spot. Wish we had one at home!!! Fantastic pizza and drinks! We highly recommend a visit here for the most delicious pizza!! We absolutely loved all four different pizzas we tried here including the spicy Spinata, Quattro Formaggi, and Salami, and the Margherita. The amaretto sour was also raved about by our resident expert on such matters. Our party of 6 had a table in the basement party room which was great. Highly recommend a gathering of any size here to enjoy amazing pizza and conversation. It looked like you could easily fit 15 of your family and friends together in lower level if you are interested in booking entire room. Otherwise tables accommodate parties of all sizes either upstairs or downstairs.

The quality of ingredients, flavour combinations, the taste, the craftsmanship and authenticity - Think it's the first time I've eaten a whole pizza and not felt heavy and gross after haha!! 1000000/10 recommend these guys for anyone looking for pizza in York. Thanks for making my Birthday extra brill ❤️

Very tasty food and fantastic service from the personnel. They try to do anything to help you . Definitely I recommend the place if you want to have pizza ( it is the base baked in Copper oven that makes the difference). I recommend also to try the cherry draft beer.

Basically, it’s the best pizza in York and it’s probably equally in the running with one other establishment to be the best pizza I’ve had in this country. But it’s so much more than that , brilliant, cool dining room ,even on a hot day like today. Cool tunes ,just the right relaxed atmosphere , great staff , and incredible food. This Pizza restaurant represents the very best of the modern world ,the young modern world from the staff to the atmosphere to the food everything is to be applauded . And this isn’t a one off , consistency is 100%.

We were in York for the food festival so there are plenty of spots to eat, and we walked past Dough Eyed a few times with full intention of eating there. We went on our last day before leaving and were gutted we didn't have another one sooner 😂 Amazing pizza, light and crispy, good quality ingredients and the guy who served us was fantastic, and likes his death metal too so bonus points 🤘🏼 Deffo pop in if you're in York and want Pizza because you won't get it better anywhere else in the City.

Although not immediately obvious from a first glance at the menu, there are lots of vegan pizzas catered for. In the end, and with the help of a super helpful member of staff who was also vegan, I ordered the vegan version of the Pumpkin Spice pizza and I have to say, it was amazing, quite possibly the nicest vegan pizza I have ever had. If you are in town and fancy a pizza, and especially if like me you are vegan, then I would highly recommend.

This must be one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in England! The crust is chewy and puffy, with a very soft thin base, so the pizza does melt in your mouth😋 The toppings tastes really fresh and the Parmesan shavings on the side of the crust gives it a bit more flavour and depth. Will definitely come back to try different flavours!

Have been here three times and pizzas have always been amazing but the service is so so slow. Over 20mins to get a couple drinks and 40mins just for a scoop of tiramisu :( its a shame because we love the food but the wait is longer than necessary

The menu offers traditional options cooked to a high standard as well as unique dishes like the Fiery Fish. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff and family-friendly environment.
Had it a few days ago was the best fish and chips I’ve had everything was so fresh and tast . Will definitely try again

Been to various different branches before... Ordered some fish fillet sandwiches, spicy chicken sandwiches, fiery fish sandwiches and some curry sauce Crispy fish fillet tasted lovely, spicy chicken sandwiches had a little spice to it and tasted There was nothing fiery about the fiery fish sandwiches, just some masala on the fish, nevertheless they was tasty. Chunky fish fillets

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I absolutely love Mother Hubbard’s on Leeds Road! The food is always top quality, fresh, and full of flavour. The service is just as impressive – quick, friendly, and consistent every time I visit. A special mention to Shona, Donna and Evie – they are amazing! Always welcoming with a smile and they truly go the extra mile to make sure everything is spot on. It’s rare to find staff who genuinely care this much about their customers, and it makes every visit such a pleasure. The Leeds Road branch is by far my favourite. The food here is always top quality – fresh, tasty, and consistently excellent. Highly recommend – easily one of the best places around for great food and even better service!

I went with family. Ordered few thing. I personally ordered fish, chips and mushy peas. The chips were undercooked and lukewarm. The mushy peas were lukewarm. The fish was hot, but the portion was small. Very disappointing.

Fish was fresh. Big portion size and reasonable price. Great menu selection. Good range of soft drinks. Good amount of seating. Staff was friendly. Service was relatively quick.

Absolutely the best food around! Everything was cooked perfectly — fresh, hot, and full of flavour. The customer service was spot on from start to finish. A special mention to Donna, who was absolutely amazing — so kind, caring, and polite. She really went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Couldn’t recommend Mother Hubbard’s enough! Will definitely be coming back again. 👏🍽️

I recently purchased your "special offer for 2" fish and chips, (spent £40) and I have to say I’m really disappointed. The portion size was more like a children's meal, definitely not suitable for two adults, and not what I expected based on the promotion. It felt like very poor value for money — honestly, a rip-off. I don’t feel like I got what I paid for at all. I’d appreciate it if you could look into this or at least pass on the feedback to whoever handles your offers and pricing. Thanks..

Nestled in the vibrant heart of York, The Sea Catcher is a charming fish and chip shop that captures the essence of classic British cuisine. With its cozy, no-frills ambiance adorned with green interior accents, this family-run establishment has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 2014. Known for serving some of the finest fish and chips in the city, The Sea Catcher prides itself on using marine certified fish paired with locally sourced potatoes to ensure quality in every bite.
Went to this chippy based on the fact it has the highest average Google reviews in York. The chippy is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from city centre. I would say the chippy is very good. The fish and chips were good quality and at a fair price. There is seating indoors with a few tables and window seats on the ground floor and more seating upstairs If you like your fish and chips this place is worth checking out.
Baz Z — Google review
Looked at various chippies online and decided to give this a go. Parking on the car park adds a fiver straight away. Cod and chips is the preferred route but I think Haddock is mains up this neck of the woods. Delivered on a tray - somewhat different but I guess it's aimed at the tourist that comes to York, but a plate would have been classier. Fish, didn't look like the cod I'm used to eating although I did query it and was told it was. Overall it was OK.
Mad N — Google review
The restaurant is small but nice and clean. The staff is nice and the food is good but a little to oily. If coming with a group you need to call ahead. Take away is available. It' situated next to the car park and around 20-25 minutes walk from York centre. If busy expect queues for a table or to get your order.
Daniel M — Google review
Cheery, quintessential Yorkshire service. On the edge of the tourist area; witnessed a table of Tour Coach drivers eating their lunch upstairs while the tourist cluster into the pricier cafes and restaurants. Lovely owner, cooked- to- order battered fish and hand-cut (?) chips. Perfect.
Maria — Google review
York is a stunning walled city, founded by the ancient Romans, and truly a beautiful place to visit. Thankfully, we had a lovely dry day to visit The Sea Catcher, where we ate our meals from the back of a pickup truck, though there is also a lovely seating area inside the chippy. The staff were pleasant and polite, and you could easily see the pride they took in their establishment and its years of trading, and which was spotlessly clean. The haddock was deliciously fresh and a good portion size, as were the chips, which were fresh, crispy, and plump. The mushy peas were thick, with a plain pea taste, just as they should be. The battered sausage had a thick batter that clung to the perfectly cooked sausage inside, and the beef dripping always makes a difference. The fishcakes were made from a mash of potato and fish, and they were a good size, though the beef dripping did cling to the batter. There is also a large pay-and-display car park right next door, so even though the chippy is situated in the heart of the city, it’s ideally located for those not so steady on their legs. I have been buying fish and chips from different places central in York, and this place outshines the others by far. The fish is fresh, not reheated. The chips are perfect. Haddock or cod comes with tartare sauce, and mayo upon request. Add your own vinegar and salt to your own taste preferences. This place eclipses the others, and the value is sublime. Tasty too.
David R — Google review
It is fish&chips take away with tables inside (first floor). Lovely fish in crispy batter with chips and mushy peas topped with tartare sauce made a good ending to a nice day. Charming gentleman helped us to make sure choice and delivered food straight to the table upstairs. P.S. Toilet was clean and tidy.

Despite the warm welcome and nice guy serving me at the desk the food was pretty dismal. My wife ordered a plain chicken burger and the photo speaks for itself. We ate in once and it was lovely but I just don't think takeaway is the thing for Bear Kitchen. Very expensive for what we received. Maybe look at reducing the prices or increasing the quality?

Great concept and fantastic menu developed by a chef who is clearly passionate about great tasting food! Parking is problematic and if you want to eat in its going to be a gamble as to if you can get a table because there’s only 3. My milkshake was fantastic and well thought out the toasted marshmallow a great addition. Burger was a disappointment for me the patty inside was over cooked and a little tough, the fried pickles were a triumph as was the corn! Whilst it’s great to have an extensive menu I would question if in needs reducing in order that you can concentrate on getting your main items (Burgers) to the very best standard you can. Worth a visit!

Nice little place, comfortable and friendly service. They take your order at the table. I ordered the full breakfast which comes with a nice cup of coffee and 2 slices of toast. Unfortunately the breakfast itself was lacklustre due to the small portion. One sausage, as nice as it was, didn't cut it. One egg with one small tinned tomato and a small portion of beans also disappointed. Then the two slice of bacon was spoiled by the edges of the meat being burned black which completely ruined the flavour and enjoyment of the entire breakfast. The only plus was that the mushrooms were cooked too perfection. In my opinion a full breakfast comes with two of each item plus hash browns and at least one slice of black pudding. Then it would be worth the price of £9.60 which simply isn't worth the price for such a small breakfast.

Probably the best (by a long way) coffee I’ve had in Leeds. The pizza slices are nigh on perfect. Generous, quality ingredients on a perfectly crispy ciabatta style base. And lovely little Italian pastries to go with the coffee. Would give it 6/5 if I could. Will be back.

Colleague suggested I try this place out and I was blown away by how tasty it was. The pizza itself is perfectly cooked, soft on the top with a crusty bottom. The onions were caramelised and truly incredible, topped with goats cheese it was the best combination. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back here again in the future, thanks for an amazing pizza slice!
Luke — Google review
Put this place in your favourites. It’s simply the best pizza slice you will find in Leeds. Admittedly on first look the pizza looks thick with dough but underneath the luscious toppings is a crispy base almost sour dough / ciabatta style that is an absolute joy! The Roman style of pizza is relatively unheard of because of the American style chains that are common but once tasted you’ll struggle to want any other pizza. Highly recommended. We had the meat feast (oh yeah) and the margarita for the little one, they didn’t last long, wolfed them down!!

The pizza here is phenomenal - proper tray style slices and always with a fantastic variety of toppings to choose from. There's a lunchtime deal which is a bargain, and the suppli are worth getting too! You can get slices to take out, or there's loads of seating upstairs and in the arcade. Good choice of beer too.

Napoli Centro is a cozy eatery on Glossop Road in Sheffield, known for its Neapolitan-style pizzas and selection of wine and beer. The restaurant prides itself on offering authentic Italian pizzas with slow-proofed dough, cooked in a blazing hot oven for just 90 seconds. Their focus on high-quality ingredients sourced from local producers and Italy ensures an unforgettable pizza experience. The best pizza I’ve had in a long time in the UK. Visited during a weekend trip to Sheffield. Top notch ingredients, service and atmosphere. The owner was incredibly welcoming and made sure we were well looked after. Authentic tastes. Will definitely be coming back.

The place is a small and busy Neapolitan pizzeria that delivers a solid experience. The space is a bit tight, but I think it adds to its charm. A very small restaurant with around 5 tables so would recommend booking ahead on a weekend evening. Lovely pizza with plenty of toppings and excellent service, they kept our water jug constantly refilled. Would recommend the nutellamisu as dessert, a big portion size which is perfect to share
Osha P — Google review
The menu runs through the Neapolitan canon: marinara and margherita, seasonal specials, fritti, and signatures like salsiccia e friarielli or the playful “Sofia Loren.” Flavours scream authenticity – San Marzano tomatoes, Fior di Latte from Campania, and artisanal dough that’s tangy, light, and properly proven. The wood-fired crust blisters just as it should. Having eaten pizze across southern Italy, including at Caserta’s world champion, I can say Napoli Centro holds its own with the best. Sheffield is lucky to have it.

The Rooftop Cafe is a great place to stop for a drink or meal, with lovely views of Bradfords Cathedral. It benefits from some lovely outdoor space, and there is also a brunch club from 10am-2pm every Saturday.
Fat Friday again folks and we were able to eat out, instead of taking away 😁 We chose this place for its rooftop dining area, lucky for us, the weather was ace, sunshine and 18c! You have to wear face masks as you enter the building, we then walked up to the Rooftop Cafe floor, there is a small lift, but we didnt use it. The staff who greeted us were friendly and helped with the menu he let us choose a table in the sun with a really nice view of the cathedral too. We ordered a battered fish on flatbread and a chicken wrap, they both came with salad, but chips cost extra, only 90p I think. We ordered 2 soft drinks too, they do San Pellagrino here, which is my favourite soft drink brand 👌 Service was good food was good, prices are not bad, I think it cost around £16 for 2. Location is perfect, especially in the sun, parking, obviously will need planning as it's in the city centre. They actually serve some beers and wine here, so might pop back in for that some day after work. I'll definitely come back for lunch and I highly recommend this hidden gem 😊👌

The cafe itself feels relaxed and open, with a lovely and usual view of part of the catherdral and gardens. There is some local merchandise eg bradford tea towels and pictures too. My beetroot, humous and pepper hot sandwhich was very tasty and a good salad too. My husband was very happy with his kebab sandwich (from the specials). Also there are some Nov and Dec Christmas special group bookings although get booked now as places are going fast. Just a stones throw away from the Broadway shopping centre, this is more than worth a visit.

If you don't like fish in a harbour town I HIGHLY recommend the Greedy Pig. Hog roast buns are filling and made infront of you. Meat is succulent and you can add at no extra charge, apple sauce, stuffing and if any available crackling too! Great alternative to Pasties etc. I always go there whether working or pleasure.

apple sauce bap. Honestly? It’s suexcellent—so good it deserves its own postcode. The pork is tender and juicy, the stuffing is rich and herby, and the apple sauce adds that perfect sweet tang to tie it all together. It’s the kind of bap that makes you close your eyes after the first bite and reconsider your life choices (in a good way). The bap itself is soft but sturdy—no soggy bottoms here—and it’s packed generously, so you’re not left chasing bits of pork around the edges. It’s messy in the best possible way, and absolutely worth it. Whether you’re grabbing lunch on the go or hunting down the best hog roast in town, The Greedy Pig delivers every time. Just be warned: once you’ve had that bap, you’ll be dreaming about it for days.

Delicious roast pork, stuffing and apple sauce bap! The service was fantastic, the owner was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. The pork was tender and moist, the stuffing was very flavourful and the apple sauce topped it off. The owner also very kindly placed a large piece of crackling on top which really made the bap. Would highly recommend eating here, top class!
