Booked a 3-4 day stay with friends travelling from Australia. Welcoming and friendly staff, and efficient service. Found us a table for dinner at short notice on one of the nights. Absolutely delicious menu of outstanding quality with lots of choice,temptingly presented, and reasonably-priced drinks, . Superior to many city restaurants! Rooms were functional and spacious with comfortable beds and good lighting and storage. Shower taps in one room were stiff and difficult to operate, but plentiful hot water. Altogether a delightful base for our reunion with old friends, and we will recommend it to anyone staying in the beautiful Glenkens area.

What an amazing traditional Scottish pub! 🍻 A good friend recommended The Clachan, and we went together last night — what a treat. The pub is spacious, with three distinct areas: the main pub, the dining room, and Wully’s Bothy. The handwritten menu hints at regularly changing dishes, which definitely gives us a reason to return and try something new. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented — almost Michelin star–style plating in a cozy pub setting. I especially loved the open fires in both the pub and dining areas. I can already picture being here in the middle of winter — snow falling outside, fire crackling inside, enjoying hearty Scottish cuisine with a pint in hand. The Clachan is also pet-friendly, which means next time we’ll be bringing our labradoodle along. We’re even planning to stay in the Inn on our next visit. Loch Ken is just nearby, and the thought of an early autumn morning walk around the loch after a stay here sounds absolutely perfect. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Scottish charm, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere!

We went for a meal at the pub, it was great, I had the steak and my wife had the Salmo, the best of the lot was the chocolate cheese cake, absolutely fantastic. You will not eat better. I will return Allan

What a gem of a find this stunning wee 'DOG-FRIENDLY' inn is. Very traditional and has a lovely old bar but also lovely and comfortable. As we were passing we only stopped off for a couple of drinks. The staff were so attentive and friendly. We were so impressed we intend to return and stay a few nights. One of the nicest pubs we have ever visited.

Nothing too much trouble. We absolutely loved our overnight stay in this brilliant pub. Wonderful food and beer, together with a lovely clean room. What more could anyone ask for. The dog loved it too.

From hero to zero. As D&G locals, we have visited The Clachan Inn several times but not for a year or so. The food has always been sensationally good. Great cooking, with imaginative menus and local produce. On this occasion, one of the dishes ordered was the worst in many years. A fried chicken burger, dry and overcooked smothered in a claggy sauce with nonexistent Kimchi on brioche bun (nope a stale bread roll). Just terrible. We also ordered fish and chips, asked for veg or potatoes instead of fries and got a ramekin with endive and cherry tomato doused in a dreadful salad dressing. When asked how our meal was by the server, they had no clue as to how to address our polite complaints and explained away the vegetable request as a misinterpretation. We even heard the barmaid say that it was so quiet the kitchen staff were arguing over tasks. There were 4 or 5 clients but we were the only ones eating. This is the second or third time recently whereby our eating experience in Dumfries and Galloway has been a let down. Are there any decent restaurants in this region? Please let us know.

We stopped here for lunch and had an amazing time - EXCELLENT food and amazing service. Such a cozy little pub! 10/10 recommend (and don’t leave without trying the scotch eggs!)

Lovely pub inside, great looking, well stocked bar. Visited with 2 dogs and were made very welcome. Other dogs were already in and caused no issues. Supplied dogs with water bowls too. The food was nice, and chip shop style chips were especially tasty. Staff were very attentive, helpful, and pleasant. Well done, team. Overall, it was a good experience and would recommend for a spot of food in a lovely environment in Dumfries.

It's a cold place. The staff are obviously so busy there is absolutely no warmth or real welcome. Good bits - fabulous cheesy garlic bread starter. Really fabulous. Improvement points - give staff and customers time to enjoy themselves. Actually bother to ask at some stage if the food was good - not once did this happen. If you claim the sirloin is quality, 1/3 should not be inedible gristle. Spice the haggis - it was bland. £32+ for gristly sirloin. No thanks. Being a sked the very second your bums hit the seats - no thanks. Never once being asked if the food was good or not - no thanks. It's a very popular place but not sure why.

Yet another amazing meal. Every single surface in this place is spotlessly clean. Food was outstanding, portions are massive. Best place to eat out in Dumfries. And they don't allow anyone under 14 which makes the whole experience even better - no screaming kids!

First time l have eaten here, and would def go back, cannot fault the service, all the staff members we encountered were polite and friendly, food was served quickly. The steak pie in particular was delicious. I removed one star as l felt it was a little overpriced and the chips weren't the best, but there were other options for an accompanying side available.

Asked for my steak to be medium. Steak came & was rare & tough as old boots. Nice beer tried the Orchney ale. Over all with both meals very disappointed. no one came to the table while we were eating to check if everything was ok. The contact with staff was very rushed. Won't be back

I would say booking is a must. We had a party of 9. If we did not book, we would not have got in. Great atmosphere in here for a Sunday tea time. The tables were full. The food was very good, and gluten-free options were available. I had the fillet of pork and creamy whiskey sauce with chunky chips and veg off the Christmas menu. Very delicious. And to top it off gluten-free Christmas pudding with ice cream. Service was good and staff were very friendly and helpful. Good place to go for food.

Five of us visited earlier tonight for the special 2-course menu at 22.50 each. I had the tikka prawns for starters and then the steak for mains. Both were beautiful and well seasoned. Others had the haggis cigars for starters and the Chicken Milanese and the Haddock in red Thai curry. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. For desserts, we ordered the rocky road tart, which was rich and delicious, the sundae, and ice cream. Beautiful place with immaculate toilets and great service. We'll be back. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a lovely meal.

We were booked into Casa Mia for an evening meal after a long day travelling. Our server was called Sylvia and she made our evening from her friendly greeting, snippets of chat while taking our order, friendly disposition and, having observed her with other diners, somebody who is a people person who enjoys her job. The food was excellent but what made the meal was the service. Good food and a good ambiance can be ruined by a bad, disinterested service.........

This is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Food is amazing and the presentation is beautiful! I’ll have to come back for the corn dogs…They were so good! They did a birthday presentation plate for my son which was much appreciated, thank you. Attentive and friendly service. Looking forward to coming back for the Christmas menu.

We had an absolutely incredible meal here! We turned up without a booking and the staff were really welcoming and helpful in finding us a table. We had delicious vegan starters, mains and desserts, all of which were beautifully presented. They tasted so, so good! The staff were very friendly and attentive throughout. Really impressed by the amount of vegan options. We had a brilliant time and can't recommend it enough! Full marks across the board!

There is no doubt that the food here is good, as many reviews will testify. It is also obvious that a great deal has been spent on providing a comfortable and pleasant dining area. It is therefore a great disappointment that there are no toilet facilities for wheelchair users, as we discovered during a birthday celebration for my son. Although we were told beforehand that facilities were available, we soon discovered this was not the case. When my son commented to a male member of staff that he would have no option but to go outside for the purpose, he declined to comment and just walked away. I wonder how customers at this restaurant would feel about having to go out in the carpark, in the darkness and the rain, in order to relieve themselves? This is what my son, a man in his forties, was obliged to do. There is an obligation for a business providing services to the public, to make reasonable adjustments to enable disabled people to have access to the same facilities as everyone else. I hope this restaurant will step up and provide an accessible wc, considering there is ample space to do so. How about it, Casa Mia??

Went for Saturday lunch with a large family group. The service was excellent, and the waitress did everything she could to accommodate our needs. The food was excellent. The restaurant was very busy but meals were served in good time. I really enjoyed our visit here and would definitely return.

Just had an excellent experience eating at Brodies. A friendly welcome with cocktails in their lounge area - and an extensive range of gins to choose from (with a few other cocktail options for those less keen on gins). Then a very good meal - a limited menu (which in my book is a good sign) with friendly, efficient service and a very relaxed atmosphere. If your looking for a quick meal to then move on, Brodies may not be for you. But for a really good, relaxed meal with great service it's one to look out. For us it was a Sunday evening and other local options were limited, so booking is advised. If/when we're in Moffat again, Brodies will certainly be somewhere to return to.

Couldn’t recommend more! The decor and the impecable service created an instant sense of comfort. As a walk in we let them know we were vegan and they provided a fully plant based menu, thank you so much for the beautiful evening can’t wait to return!

A lovely cafe with good tea and food in the heart of Moffat. We came by for lunch on-route to Penrith and the relaxed stylish vibe fitted perfectly. Service was also friendly and on-point. We loved their good quality tea - very flavorful and fragrant. Food was a mixed bag - the homemade tart was alright, the sweet potato fries could’ve been better, the fish croquettes were good, though the lemon cake was too sweet IMHO. Nonetheless we had a pleasant time and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

We booked here for an evening meal and I cannot fault this place at all. Had a lovely relaxed vibe and the staff where so friendly and chatty. I love that you get to enjoy the gin bar in a relaxed atmosphere before the take you through to the restaurant. The service was not rushed so you had plenty of time to enjoy the amazing food, cooked to perfection with amazing flavours. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful place , we did not book but we were very welcome by our host. The service was perfect , the staff are all all very nice and professional. The place is beautiful and well maintained. Stopped here for a light lunch - had coffee and crispy chicken with ginger mayo - very nice indeed. The service was quick and efficient. It did get very busy after I arrived - to the extent that they were turning people away at one point, as the kitchen was getting backed up. So if you want to be sure of service, it would be best to book at busy times /days.

Well that was disappointing we booked a table for 6pm and once we were seated were told that we had to be gone by 8pm as the table was re-booked again and we had to be finished. (Great start) The whole time we sat there the waitress was sorting the clean cutlery throwing it into the containers ready for laying the tables you couldn't here yourself think let alone have a conversation over the din. Then the same women waitresses had such bad attitude and seamed as though they really didn't want to be there and we really didn't appreciate listening to them bad mouthing the clients which left as we where eating our meal. The male waiter was really good and was engaging. The food was edible but decidlbly average. We do not recommend.

A gem of a place just off the main street. Lovely atmosphere and friendly folks that welcome you from the door to the table. The service was very efficient, a little banter here and there and we were well looked after. Definitely a restaurant worthy of a second and third visit, or a few more.

Beautiful meal here for my brother’s birthday. Attentive, accommodating and friendly staff. We had booked but they let us in early. Food was well-cooked, fresh and tasty, with good sized portions without over-feeding us. Good menu with lots of choice. The tables are in lots of different spaces throughout the building which makes for privacy but did not result in us being overlooked at any point. Definitely worth the journey!

Wonderful atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious food. This was a perfect find on the edge of town. We had the marinara - it was packed full of seafood and had the most delicious taste, reasonably priced too.

Was here with a group for a meal. I had the mac and cheese it was 18 pounds and came with 2 slices of garlic bread. Sides were extra. It tasted good but even though it was on the main meal side of the menu i would suggest that portion size was more for toddlers. And priced rather high for what you get. That being said every one enjoyed the time there and the food they had.

Henrys is becoming our regular place for Sunday lunch. Lovely view's over the bay. The pod's are a little different if there's a few of you as you feel like it's just you in the restaurant.. we had soup which was very nice. Roast beef is exceptional just melts in your mouth with veggies and yorkshire pudding.. chicken sizzler which my partner says is brilliant.. pudding is their cheesecake which has been different flavour every time it's absolutely to die for .. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic position on the shore.of Loch Ryan. Lovely outdoor patio area with pods if needed from cold winds. I had Cullen Skink one of my favourite soups and it didn't disappoint. Followed that with Roadt Beef, veggies, a Yorkshire pudding and the most delicious gravy. Gave in and had a dessert when I spotted Creme Brulee on the menu. It was one of the best Creme Brulees I've ever had Beautifully appointed venue. Delightful cheery, knowledgeable staff, , first class toikt facilities. Disabled parking. Definitely Italy a not to.be missed restaurant in Stranraer

We usually have Sunday lunch at Henry's as the food quality is so good, eating from the Sunday menu the roast beef is excellent with just enough on the plate so as not to over face you, I have tried all the dishes on the menu and could not fault any of them, and the cheese cake is very much worth the reputation it carries no matter what the flavour and there are quite a few to choose from. The staff are very attentive with youngsters who carry out the serving tasks very well and the older members of the team backing them up with great sense of humour and really friendly chatter and funny banter. Nothing is to much trouble for any of them to make your meal memorable.

Absolute gem of a place. Very tasty food. Generous portions... The seafood was particularly good (We had a seafood platter starter for 2 which was huge) - definitely could have been a main if you had some chips with it. Would not hesitate to return if / when I'm back in the area.

We came all the way to Stranraer, Scotland, to visit a dear old friend, who recommended Henry's Bay House for dinner. This lovely restaurant, facing the sea, has a full bar and a menu featuring a variety of seafood dishes, alongside classic standard fare. Our party of five was seated at a comfortable half-booth table, and the service was great from start to finish. I enjoyed a roast dinner with all the fixings - Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, roast potatoes with a glass of rosé. While there doesn't appear to be a dedicated kids' menu, there were options like mac and cheese and chicken tenders for the kiddos. The rest of our group had grilled chicken, fish pie, and a burger, and it seemed everyone was happy with their meals. Overall, I'd highly recommend Henry's Bay House for either lunch or dinner!

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at Henry's Bay House. Food was frsh and tasty we enjoyed Soup and garlic mushrooms followed by roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. My daughter said her macaroni cheese was the best she had tasted. Price was reasonable and staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem for them.

My family and I are in Dumfries for a short break and to celebrate my Dads birthday. The staff were brilliant, I'm in a wheelchair and they made sure I had space and felt comfortable. The food was amazing, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Again, the staff were so nice. The restaurant was really busy but we got all our food & drinks pretty fast and the atmosphere was lovely. Thanks for a lovely evening, I'd highly recommend checking them out.

We had a lovely meal at Bruno’s. The food was brilliant, service was quick. The front of house staff were very accommodating after we asked to move outside wear it was cooling. It was no problem at all to them. We were made to feel very welcome. Thank you to them. We will be back!!

Great food and great service. My daughter and father shared the garlic mushroom starter and there was plenty. We had the salmon pasta, pizzas and chicken. All were good. They kindly did a smaller portion of pasta for my elderly mother, which was still bigger than I would serve at home. Sticky toffee pudding and ice creams were also delicious, but the profiteroles were a little odd with runny, rather than pastry custard. We dined early at 5pm so only 4/5 for atmosphere, but I'm sure it would pick up later in the evening.

I'm so happy we found this gem of a place in Dumfries! We were kindly seated quickly even though we hadn't booked. The staff were polite and attentive. We opted to dine on the 2 course pizza/pasta offer , which is very reasonably priced. The food arrived in good time and was very nice. We enjoyed ourselves that much, that we returned a week later. My husband stated that the steak he had ordered was "the best he's ever eaten out". Highly recommend. The pastas, the pizzas, the steaks are all just fantastic! We can't wait to return again on our next holiday to Dumfries! Thank you to all of the staff at Bruno's!

Wow, this place was excellent! The staff were awesome! Extremely friendly, welcoming, and highly efficient. They were super busy—so I’d recommend making a reservation. However, I was by myself and they kindly squeezed me in. I had the fish served on a scoop of mashed potatoes, with carrots, asparagus, and their mixed salad. I asked for goat cheese on the salad, and it was warm, gooey, and absolutely delicious!

Went for a family 3 generation lunch. The mussels (starter) was overloaded with chilli 🌶 for my taste. It has a casual lunch atmosphere which was appreciated. The toilets are down steep stairs.

Good food choices. Service very good given the young age of staff. That implies good managers. Decent enough fayre without breaking the bank too much. It is a bit dim in there so more dramatic focused lighting with some colour would really help. Recommended.

Nestled in the heart of Dumfries, La Dolce Vita offers an inviting, well-presented setting in a building with unique character—an old bank transformed into an Italian eatery. My guest and I stopped in for lunch, drawn in by the appealing prices on their midday menu and the charming ambiance. From the outset, the experience started on a good note. The staff were warm, attentive, and welcoming, adding to the overall positive first impression. For starters, I chose the stuffed mushroom, and my guest opted for the soup of the day: a pea and pancetta soup. The soup had a delightful, fresh flavor, though the bread served alongside was disappointingly stale. My stuffed mushroom, on the other hand, delivered with an enjoyable depth of flavor. Moving to the mains, however, the experience began to falter. I ordered the chicken Milanese, which arrived with a side of tomato pasta. Unfortunately, the Milanese resembled a breaded chicken you might find prepackaged at the supermarket, lacking the crisp freshness one expects. The pasta was overcooked, and the sauce tasted unexpectedly sweet and bland, like a store-bought jar of sauce rather than a house-made Italian tomato sauce. My guest’s Bolognese, which I sampled, was similarly lacking in complexity—a one-note sauce without the hearty, rich flavors typical of a good Bolognese. While the price point was indeed budget-friendly, the quality of the dishes left us underwhelmed. With some improvements, La Dolce Vita has the potential to create meals as delightful as its atmosphere, but until then, it’s a thumbs down from me.

What a grand old building and an amazing restaurant inside. Love the high ceilings and period features throughout. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food..... Well Ama-zing! We both had the Pollo Dolce Vita and asked for it to be extra spicy and it was perfect. Nice tingle, full of flavour and we loved the potato loaf thingy whatever it's called? Totally loved it and definitely recommend 💯

Fast service, good, tasty meals, nice atmosphere. Bruschettas as entrees are rather odd, as the original ones are on small pieces of toast, while the restaurant serves one big slice of bread.

Wow, what a brilliant place. Had dinner here with friends. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal with none of the pretence you can get with other fine dining establishments. Make no mistake - this is fine dining - every course was a delight. A great experience, loved by locals and the national press alike. I'll be back.

Drove over from Glasgow to eat at Mr Pook's. Was not disappointed! Absolutely fantastic. Painstakingly made, all ingredients were locally sourced and the open kitchen was a treat to watch. Edward has really elevated the dining scene in the region and beyond! Word of advice; book well in advance!

Superb from start to finish. I emailed to book and Chef Pook fitted us in at the time we wanted. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly front of house team, who showed us to our table, talked through the specials, provided a bottle of water and took our drinks order. There is an extensive drinks menu, plenty of good cocktails, wines and beers. I opted for a negroni which was excellent. We were then brought a caramelised onion, goats cheese and pickle crostini, very nice. This was quickly followed by home made bread and then a soup in an espresso cup, made from foraged mushrooms, the best mushroom soup I have ever tasted. We ordered our meal, I must admit this was difficult as I could have chosen everything on the menu and specials! The menu offered fantastic Scottish produce, local and in season. All starters looked fantastic and the scallop and mushroom dish I had was absolutely superb and went well with the Grenache blanc The mains arrived, all looked to die for. The braised beef cheek with polenta and foraged mushrooms was my choice and I was not dissapointed, it was a lovely dish washed down with a good pinot. We could not resist the deserts and I could not resist a glass of tokaji to go with it. Our group loved the food, service and environment, thoroughly enjoying the experience. I will definately return when the opportunity arises. Edward Pook is a brilliant chef, with a great team and his restaraunt is amazing, a must visit for anyone looking for amazing food at good value,

A pleasant dining experience. We booked the table through email from the night before and had a response back the next following morning.. the food was excellent had given a complimentary appetiser and soup which was a surprise and a nice start for the meal. Ordered pea and early season garlic risotto for starter it was amazing and slow braised ox cheek to tasty.. can't fault it however the only thing we noticed is one of our server put our cutleries on the wrong position but it's nothing major over all would recommend this place and would definitely coming back again..

Can’t believe I recently found out about this place. Had a wonderful family evening for mum’s birthday. The staff was amazing and the food extremely delicious. Highly recommend it for anyone in Castle Douglas or just visiting and looking for a place to dine in a good atmosphere.

Had dinner here with my partner last night and can honestly say it was one if the nicest meals I've ever had in a restaurant. The starter, main and dessert were all on par with each other and so beautifully presented. We both had the Ox cheek raviolo, the lamb, and then I finished with the chocolate and raspberry dessert. The service was also great. Thank you so much for a beautiful meal, this is the highlight of our holiday so far!

We decided to try The Ship Inn for dinner. We did not have reservations but we were there early enough that they were able to get us I. Right away. I ordered the lamb rump roast and my wife had the fish curry. Both were outstanding and well presented. The service was prompt and the staff courteous. The place is clean and appears well run. We enjoyed ourselves in more ways than just the food since the banter with the staff was fun too. The inside is not what we expected in that it was modernized and not left traditional. Overall it was an excellent choice for us. If you haven’t been here, you must go. If you have been here, you must go back. We know we will!

A very nice, friendly welcome, very good atmosphere in this pub. Dined here whilst on a day visit to the Gatehouse of Fleet. Steak pie was very nice, good to have different vegetables as opposed to the usual peas and carrots. Chips could have been better, were nice enough but would have preferred them to be chunkier. Cup of tea was really quite small and would have been better if hotter. Desserts were very, very nice, sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. All food nicely presented and the service really good.

A very friendly pub with very welcoming staff that serves great food and drink. Visited as part of a large group (plus a dog) and had a lovely evening. Would recommend the duck confit, which was delicious, best to book ahead as the pub is popular.

Food wasn't what I'd expected. Salmon was quite hard like it had been left out. Maybe less salmon and more prawns would be a good idea. Steak pie for main (moved this from centre of veg to the side for picture). Wasn't impressed with that either. Pie was over seasoned as well as the gravy. The mash was just strange and the veg was just a little on the hard side. Friends had the haddock and chips and said it was brilliant and husband had lamb and said it was lovely. Expected better for the price. Presentation was lovely on all dishes. Warm welcoming atmosphere and nice surroundings to have a meal.

Had a lovely time. Food was good. We had steaks, salmon pasta and steak pie as well as starters and desserts. The six of us enjoyed our meals. Tasty and well presented. Dogs welcome. Excellent, friendly service. We also had pizza, burgers and fish as takeaway on other nights. Pizzas were very good in particular. Would recommend.

Bit disappointed really. The service was very friendly and my main course of chicken kebab was fine but the sides were just plain boiled veg and quite dull. There's a balance to be had between waiting too long for food and being rushed. Our starters were barely finished when the mains came and we felt very rushed. In and out in 45 minutes.

Food is amazing. Service is great. Staff are really friendly. Prices are really reasonable. My wife and I both had steaks. Best steaks we've ever had. Cooked to perfection. It gets busy, so book in advance. Next time we're in Scotland, we will be back.

Lovely mix of herbs and spices all cooked fresh. Chef even popped out for feedback and ensure everything okay. Definately going back. As a chef myself I really find eating steak in restaurants difficult.... however Carlo's chef cooked my steak perfectly the attention to detail was lovely and refreshing! my prawns were huge, punching full of flavour! Came here the first time and had dinner with friends. Such a lively place. Food is nice , especially the starter. Garlic bread is so soft , focaccia is yummy , salmon sauce is the best !

Very friendly and accommodating staff. We were walk ins and they still managed to find us a nice table. I would highly recommend this place if you love italian food, remember that pizza is not italian ;) so no pizzas there. Wine list a little expensive but it is a very nice restaurant. This is a very high end restaurant compared to the little town however my chicken was done with it being a little too chewy/dry in parts and others a little off texture. (Basically too high heat when cooking). There was a bit too much sauce with this meal, could have done with a sprinkling of cheese. My friends has a great meal and stated 5 stars. I would higly recommend this place with a solid 4 stars. Still room for a little improvement.

One of our favourite places to eat in Castle Douglas, if not our outright one. Proper authentic Italian food of really high quality, and they know how to entertain our 4 year old every time he's in. The fact they remember him is even better. Cannot recommend more highly.

The food was really nice. Fries looked and tasted like fresh home made ones. We ordered spicy chicken and chicken curry and in both cases we were very happy with our dishes. Staff is very nice, there is outside and inside sitting locations. We came on motorbike and parking felt safe, plus there is space on the back with road access so you can see your bike all the time.

Something was wrong here today. Peoples food was coming out in good time but the drinks were taking ages. We saw three customers walk out. Food was ok but the onion rings were soaking in oil. The leaking tea pot set it all off nicely. It was busy so I doubt its normally like that. £28 inc tea and coffee.

Lovely little hidden cafe just off the main road. The food was cooked to perfection and really hit and fresh. The drinks were lovely too and they had a good amount of options. Being dog friendly was also a bonus. They do also have a car park right outside.

We are regular visitors to the Beltie Galloway Cafe. The staff are very friendly and always have a warm welcome 😊. The food is very nice with a varied choice on the menu. There is always a great selection of home baking if you fancied dropping in for a coffee ☕. There are a lot of seats inside and on dry days outside seating. We always phone ahead to book our seat as it is usually busy . There is easy access for the disabled also . Plenty of parking . The last time we visited we had an afternoon (this needs 24 hours notice). Really recommend the Beltie Cafe.

Very welcoming, decent portions, food arrived in good time and clean. Has a cute little gift shop. Recommend a mocha with a sprinkling of marshmallows if you have a sweet tooth and love coffee. It’s a nice little stop off point.

Fantastic place to eat and drink 👍 Has a odd location next to the main Car Park (that's free) but don't let that put you off. Food and drink are very good and the staff are really friendly and helpful - they make lovely Flat Whites 🙂 Inside it is decorated with lots of pictures and paraphernalia that can keep you occupied for hours whilst you eat there 🙂 They also have Maps and lots of info on local walks. You can also buy little souveniers and little gifts. Absolutely top place to visit 👍

The eating area is quite odd as you are seated in a foyer so if you are wanting a little privacy, this is not for you. The server was quick to attend and polite. The food is really good but I would have liked to be told the chips had skin on as I prefer them without. I would also like to point out the wedge of lemon was quite old so keep it off the plate. The prices are reasonable and overall, not a bad dining experience.

Ours was a one night only stay, to break our journey south to Yorkshire after a holiday further north in Scotland. Had we appreciated the high standard, comfortable accommodation offered at this historic former village inn, & definitely the warm welcoming on-site owner, Morag, we would certainly have considered visiting sooner. It was lovely to have a comfortable room, but also to have open access to the cosey ground floor sitting rooms & dining area at our leisure. Such an individual, stylish interior combining modern facilities within a beautifully preserved building. Breakfast was brilliant: A selection of cereals, fruits & yogurts to start, followed by a choice of cooked food, plenty of tea & toast. Morag cooked our food to order - so could not be fresher - & was at pains to ensure everything was as we liked it. Such a caring, convivial host who loved to chat with us. Great craic! Hightae b&b is a few miles outside of Lockerbie - so a short drive along narrow country lanes, but well worth those few minutes! Immediately adjacent, level car parking. Would highly recommend. Indeed we already have done to several people. And we will definitely look to stay again when travelling to & from Scotland.

This Inn is a lovely place to stay. We stayed on our way to the Highlands to break our journey. We have stayed there before a few years ago, and were looked after really well both times. The accomodation was wonderful, the food brilliant, and the whole experience great. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

We had a great stay with Morag, at the Hightae Inn, last weekend. The room and facilities were very good and very clean. The included breakfast was delicious, as was the evening meal. As others have stated, nothing was too much trouble for Morag and her hosting skills are exceptional. This was our first stay, at the Hightae Inn, but we're already making plans to visit again. Although the location is rural, there are lots of interesting places and sights within a short drive (you do need a vehicle in order to make the most of your stay). An ideal stopover if your heading further into Scotland. Highly recommended!

Charming little hotel with great breakfast and home-cooked evening meals that are delicious.

Spent three nights here and had dinner twice. Top notch food, Morag cooks a perfect steak. Room was clean, bed really comfortable. Would highly recommend staying here. I loved it and hope to return. They really make you feel at home.

Can't get away from Robert Burns! Visited lots of sites associated with him earlier this year and by chance the place we decide to have lunch at, also has a connection. That aside, we had a good family lunch in the restaurant. Between us we had a battered haddock, 2 macaroni cheeses and a macaroni cheese pie. Portions are decent and we took advantage of asking for a doggy bag to take excess chips home. There is a varied menu with good options for kids and vegetarians.

Love this place, whenever we're near by we make sure we eat here. Staff are always friendly and cheery. Freshly cooked food, crisp and fluffy chips and lightly battered haddock - deeeeelish!

Wow such a lovely cafe! We stopped on the drive back home from our holiday for breakfasts as I had seen a photo of their cooked breakfasts on Facebook and we were not disappointed! The breakfast had everything I hoped for and it was gorgeous. Lorne sausages, tattie scones, haggis and bacon to name a few things that were on the plate. We also had French toast with cherries which I am craving now is was so yummy. The staff here are very happy and friendly and the toilets were immaculate which always reassures me in eating places! Would definitely come here again and recommend. Lots of seating inside and I saw some outside too and there is a big town car park at the back too which makes it very handy for stopping by.

Nice cafe in the centre of Annan serving a variety of traditional dishes such as fish and chips, steak pie and chips, burger and chips, etc. The staff were particularly friendly, when I spilled my drink they rushed to sort it out for me and service was very quick in general. The food was good quality, the chips were particularly good, they hadn't fried them to death like some places. Value wise, not really much different to a lot of places these days, prices were fair for what you got. Establishment was very clean. Thanks 👍

I ordered a gourmet burger today ordered 47, too much slop in the burger could not ever difference if it was grass fed or not. Too much sauce I just fed it to the dog very disappointed. Never had a bad meal but this was one inedible.

It's a chippy. While everything was fine, nothing was impressive. The fish and chips were OK, as were the soup and Panini, but I've had much better in other places. The portion size is good. If you're thinking about eating here, go for it, you won't leave disappointed, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Reading reviews I found this place and it was fantastic. We had a large breakfast for a good price. The table service was fantastic and the food really good. The restaurant is very big and also the menu with lots of choices. It is cash payment required. Situated in the town centre and easy to find.

Currently staying in Stranraer on business. Needed something away from the hotel food (bloody expensive) and after exiting Tesco Express I saw this place right opposite. Having coeliac disease I need to be careful so I did highlight this to the chap behind the counter and he said he could make me a nice Gluten Free cod and chips. Sounded good to me so took a seat and waited for me grub. Called me up and took a stroll back to the hotel. Opened up and still red hot. The only negative thing I have got to say and the reason for 4 stars is it would have been better to have left the fish drain off for a couple of minutes and let the batter crisp up. The food itself was really good and the fish was full of flavour. I will be returning tomorrow evening for my last meal in Stranraer. Would definitely recommend this little gem. Place looked spotlessly clean and in a great location.

Really good breaded fish, chips are good too. Sat indoors and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Very good prices and staff are really friendly. A great place and great value.

Chips were great and the fish was both a decent size and nicely battered, although my personal taste would be to have the batter a little more crispy. The Haggis whilst a good size could have done with a little more pepper. Not a moan just constructive criticism - we both enjoyed our meal and it was very reasonably priced. Thanks

Absolutely disgusting over cooked fish at least been cooked and reheated twice chips half cooked even the seagulls woukd take it.

Booked a wee last minute away and headed to Stranraer. Nipped in here for something quick to eat and we both got fish suppers - fish was delicious and battered was nice and crispy. Decided to go back the next night and if anything the food was better! And a shout out to the guy that served us - polite, friendly & chatty and even remembered us the next night - it's staff like this that make a place!!!

Oh dear lord, what a terrible place. Firstly, the floor is all badly damaged and screwed down in places. It needs replacing. Then comes the food! I say food, but then again, it's not edible, so I can't call it that. Husband ordered battered sausage and chips. The chips were white! I've never seen cooked chips so anaemic before. Sausage is really poor quality. Then came my chicken burger. Again, it certainly wasn't chicken. Some weird processed patty made to look like chicken. The kind of thing Jamie Oliver campaigned against getting thrown off menus, the poor quality frozen mulch made to resemble chicken. Even the bacon didn't look right. Needless to say, we didn't bother eating them. I know it's a chippy and I'm not expecting Michelin Star Food, but an actual chicken breast, battered and in a roll is all that's needed for a good chicken burger! Sorry, but avoid this place if you want actual food.

Visited after comparing local fish and chip shops online (reviews, websites, pictures etc), decided to visit Moore's chip shop as it appeared to be the best option. I had the breaded haddock supper £10.50; whilst the fish itself was tasty, it was very thin (too crunchy therefore, and much thinner than a normal chip shop haddock) and was comparatively small. Chips were cooked well and there was a reasonable portion of them. The (80p) homemade tartare sauce was tasty. Took 25 minutes from the point of order for cooking and serving, which is perfectly acceptable. Friendly service and well organised operation, particularly given the busy queue. Overall due to the fish, whilst it tasted good, it did not represent good value for money when compared to fellow fish and chip shops.

Fish and chips at its best, freshly prepared, good size portions even for regular size. Very pleasant staff. Reasonable prices, £20.00 for 2, some may find this a little costly but you get what you pay for and the quality was so very good. We will be back before we go home 😁

Enjoyed a large haddock and chips supper with a side of (veggie) gravy. Perfectly cooked with crisp batter. Very popular when we visited with a decent queue, which is a good sign, but we were served quickly. You can also purchase a large range of ice cream too.

This is my favourite chip shop in Scotland. I just wanted to thank Abby and Lynne for all my chippy dinners. Amazing food and they always have it ready before I get through the door. Love this place, you're the best 😋

I'm often suspicious of chippy's that do burgers, pizzas and other stuff but we were passing and decided to get fish and chips for lunch. It was busy which, to us, was a good sign and we weren't disappointed. The fish was cooked fresh, nice and crispy, excellent tasty mushy peas and.tartare sauce. Very friendly staff too. Would 💯 go again!

Never in my life have we had such a disgusting meal from here. Me, my partner and my son had 2 haddock suppers and sausage supper, the chips were disgusting, the batter on the fish was soggy and full of grease. All 3 of us ended up ill. For a good chip shop the standards have gone drastically down hill. Waste of £ 33.00.would never ever recommend this place for what we received.

Had a superb fish supper from Moores recently - i've seen bigger portions but the food was top quality. What was most remarkable, was that even after a 20 minute car journey the chips and fish batter remained crisp and delicious! some sort of witchcraft on the go here i think.

It's in an old church /or in an old chappel according to size ;) you have a cafe and craft shop in one place. Good range of products for craft in the shop, Caffe is a family-run business with very friendly owners. The food was fresh and tasty too !

So so glad we called in here for a late lunch. It's very dog friendly with biscuits at the counter for them. The staff are lovely and friendly and the food was lush. The presentation matched the taste. I had the pear and goats cheese salad and my partner the olive and feta plus a carrot cake and yummy hot chocolate. If you're near here call in and you won't be sorry. We will definitely be back.

What a little gem of a place! Only had pizza (which was excellent 👌🏼), but the cakes looked delicious too - shame I was stuffed. Definitely need to come back.

A hidden gem this , fantastic food and great personal service but it can get slow as every pizza is handmade and when we visited the ovens had just been turned on so we had to wait for them to heat up , we had the Mexicana and the Wild Mushroom pizza both of which were excellent , if you dont mind a wait this is a great place for a bite to eat

We have been here a few times and being on holiday in the area decided to come back. I can’t fault the food but service wasn’t great. We had ordered 2 pizzas and garlic bread with dips spent around £30 to take away. We sat in the ship inn beer garden which they were happy for us to do so as they were closed for food today. I then decided it would be good to go back in to the crafty crow to grab some cheese cake to take back to our cottage but was met with a girl racing over to tell me the kitchen is closed 🤷🏻‍♂️ - so we didn’t get anything, it’s funny I can place orders for food right now on their website and there advertised as open to 8pm, plus all I was looking for was some cake to take away 🫣 I’ve attached a picture of the food as it was nice 👍🏻

Popped here today, saw the sign on the door saying no dogs allowed! (Was just me and my dog) but the staff were fantastic and helped me get my order without leaving my dog outside! And the food was fab, best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time, fish was in a lovely thin crispy batter and chips were perfect, no grease on anything! And the dog loved his sausage! Just lovely thank you!

Have purchased from here in the past whilst on my travels. Stopped today to give my daughter a treat as she was visiting from Aberdeen. Quality really gone done hill, fish supper portion size very small - I initially asked for more chips, as the portion was so poor, then upon reflection, I decided to take the fish supper, and single fish back as it wasn’t worth almost £17. Add to that the chips were floppy and didn’t look fresh. Didn’t sample the fish. Gentleman serving said he’s never had any previous complaints - I think that’s because most folk are too embarrassed and just decided not to go back. I did get a refund, which was the only positive.

This is my second time using this chippy. First time was great. Unfortunately we had a bad meal. Spicy chicken kebab, I love spicy hot food. This nearly kilked my husband, I think they has cooked the chicken in a full tub of hot chilli powder, straight in the bin it went, waste of good money.

I rang this place as a vegetarian with dietary requirements asking a simple question; which oil their chips were fried in and if they did any meat products and if so, if it was fried separately. The woman on the phone was extremely rude and sarcastic, for instance when I asked if they serve meat products she replied with ‘we are a chip shop.’ Wouldn’t even touch this place with a barge pole after this disgusting experience on a short phone call. Learn how to speak to potential customers and sort out your attitude. EDIT: the owner read my review and shortly called to discuss my experience. They were very polite and understanding of the situation, which I really appreciate. +score to service.

For Morrisons, the food is subpar. It used to be good here. There is a disconnect also between what's available on the app Vs what's available on the counter, like the cakes for example. The quality of the food was poor, it wasn't cook very well, chips were under done, eggs were overdone. The staff seem under duress so if they weren't very helpful I can see why. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Also find it bizarre they use bad ingredients like tinned peas and run out of square sausages when there is a fully stocked supermarket next to it!

Wow this place needs closing, diabolical food and cutlery was filthy and smelly. It is basic microwave precooked breakfast items. Utter vile. The staff are very rude, don’t dare ask for any changes you will be scolded for it. The place is just not nice at all. I used to go to Morrisons cafe on a stop off but the services are far cleaner and nicer. Sort it out Morrisons.

Absolutely horrendous customer service and qaulity of food. I ordered a chicken burger with chips and salad. The salad had plastic in it and my girlfriend was served a frozen cheesecake. I tried to tell a server about the plastic I had found and she dismissed me by saying "I'm busy serving customers" and walked away as if I wasn't also a customer. Initially I was only telling them because I didn't want it to happen to anyone else, I didn't even want a refund. After the atrocious customer service I logged the complaint formally and did receive a refund. Awful experience.

Came in ages ago,forgot to post my review. I asked for make my own breakfast items on the terminal before you go in the cafe I chose a poached egg a member of staff came out after I had put the order through saying sorry no poached eggs today really more like laziness on their part.Breakfast was cold when it came out.No cappuccino as the coffee machine was broken they never mentioned it was broken.Haven't been back since.

I had a vegan breakfast. It arrived quickly but everything was barely warm. Sausages had been microwaved and had no taste. Tea was nice though

The cafe was dirty understaffed no white rolls for a chip butty despite plenty on supermarket shelf. Chips were cold and cake in chilly was dried out and tasted stale. No cuttlery i.e. tea spoons no cartons of milk and no servietes. What else can you expect. Customer services only direct you to going on line to complain. No customer skills. This is a regular place for me and my wife but we give the cafe a wide birth from now on. The place and the supermarket are going down hill fast. Even the shelves are half empty at 1500 hrs. No bread and nothing being baked. Head for Tesco Lidl or Aldi where they have stock on the shelves. Even the staff I spoke to agreed with my points. Come on Morrison's buck your ideas up.

Stopped off on the way home from the ferry from Belfast, absolutely hit the spot; fish was nicely battered, chips good, curry sauce excellent. Also ordered a pizza and that was also confirmed as very nice. Lots of staff, really busy place and had a nice relaxed atmosphere sitting in.

Amazing place, and the food was awesome! Especially the fries, shakes, and fish and chips. Clean bathrooms for when you have to go. Employees were nice, and the ambiance is good. Highly recommend. 👌

We got stranded in Dumfries due to a breakdown but found a warm welcome at the Palmerston Cafe. The staff were great and the food a real treat for us (NB we didn't get home until 4am so would not recommend the RAC for breakdown cover!). Thank you so much to everyone! Will have to pop in again next time we are travelling though. ☺️

Just pick up 2 meals from dumfries KFC and honestly worse takeaway ever. Chips were cold, soggy & limp and chicken lukewarm! Phoned to complain and was met by an obnoxious worker who couldn't care less about the state of the meal or the complaint. Basically said tough luck take it or leave it...I'd give zero star if I could!!

I've been a loyal customer but not any more. Chip portions now tiny, chips a little under cooked and soggy and missing seasoning. Chicken was anemic and soggy, not crispy, again, seasoning seems to be missing. I won't be buying my weekly fried chicken from KFC again. Rather disgusting actually. And cold. EDIT: So, I tried again, a couple of weeks later. Same. Cold. Batter wet and soggy instead of crispy. Chips unseasoned. And this time, the drink i ordered and paid for was completely missing from my delivery. I guess the store is under a new team manager. I suppose that they are probably certified in all sorts of things to do with food service. Yet apparently, they can't run a fried chicken shop well.

Never again. Food good - service horrendous. Too busy talking to a friend in the queue to ask what I wanted on my sandwich. Asked for 2 caramel lattes and a normal latte. 1 drink came half way through our food. Asked is that a caramel one told no normal. 2 more came - are these the caramel - no we don’t sell caramel - but that is what I asked for - well we don’t sell it. 1st coffee that came was awful. Looked totally different to the other coffees. Took it back and said this is not a latte or the same - sorry we don’t sell latte - it’s all the same - will be giving this a wide berth next time. Service and attitude shocking.

Popped in for a subway and despite there being no customers in when we arrived the assistant couldn’t have been more disinterested. Felt like we were a bother and the server was unhelpful and abrupt. Obviously didn’t want to be there which is a poor reflection on the business!

Just want to say a big thanks to the staff on 26 August 2024. They had closed as it was 6 pm already but still managed to served us as with 3 sandwiches as we were hungry and tired. Thank you so much guys. Relished our dinner 😋👍🏼

Went on the 19th of August... the 5 girls that were behind the counter seemed more interested in flirting with one young lad... it took 4 of them to pay one order and when we asked for a veggie pattie was told I don't think we do them but I'll check... not overly impressed by any rate

Sandwiches just ok . Slightly overheated, burnt and hard on some bits. Had Waffle chips which were actually not edible, soggy and some green bits . Expensive . Coffee machine not working. Asked for Regular Coke but when I got to machine only Diet available! Staff member ok , seem no joy or heart in their work though . I know it might only be a fast food takeaway but still have some passion in your work . Can't say we will rush back . Disappointed

Felling a little hungry we visited here. It was packed with what I think was an old lady’s group and boy it was loud and you could Not concentrate with the noise. The staff weee fantastic and the service was first class. Very friendly and jolly staff. I always like it when the staff are naturally happy and it’s not put on for the customers. The food was ok, I would not say it’s anything to shout about but it’s good and I had no cause to complain.

Looked for a dog friendly place. No dogs inside but we sat outside and asked if we could order a meal for our dog. They had multiple choices from cooked sausage, chicken, scrambled ahh etc. came in some dog bowls 😊 service was lovely and the food was good too.

We visited the coffee bean for breakfast this morning and I’m pleased to report that it was delicious. The service from our waitress (Megan) was second to none, she was so polite and friendly and made us feel so very welcome. The Scottish breakfast was amazing and the coffee was fantastic too. We highly recommend 👍

I really like to write a good review but we were quite disappointed with our breakfast because it was not good at all. For the price, it wasn't enough food on the plate and what it was, it wasn't fresh... The sausage, the bread, no baked beans and a big plate that make the breakfast small. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Halloween and the staff is very friendly and served the clients with a smile, they clear the tables quickly but need love and top up salt and pepper dispensers, swipe the entrance and keep an eye to small details. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for breakfast having other places near by much better in price, quality and quantity. The WiFi wasn't working either...

I had a cappuccino with oat and a vegetarian pizza. The cappuccino tasted very watery, maybe because they don't use barista milk. The pizza seemed not to have tomato sauce and the vegetables tasted raw. The dough was very bready underbaked. My partner's egg and avocado toast could have been crispier and the avocado was warm, as if put in the microwave. The staff was very friendly.

Great little cafe situated in the centre of Stranraer. Spacious inside with tables outside too if the weather is good. All pastries are homemade and there is plenty to choose from. The coffee is great too. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, getting you seated and served in no time. Definitely will be back. Thank you!

Great place with some very good food which is served by some very friendly staff. Have stopped here a few times and always had a very good experience. The coffee is great as well as the food. Their Chili cheese nachos are fantastic and definitely worth some indulgence.

Food was great, full English breakfasts. Super friendly owner, very easy to chat with! First time here but will come back. Would recommend for bikers passing through Stranraer looking for filling and good quality food. Cafe is in the city centre, easily accessible. Space for motorcycles definitely can be found. Had a great meal before boarding our 7:30 pm ferry to Belfast this evening . Much cheaper than eating on board and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The macaroni was lovely and the chips freshly cooked and tasty. Would recommend 👍

My sister and I are spending a few days holiday in Stranraer and decided to eat our main evening meal here. I can truly say the food was lovely and we would not hesitate to recommend

Large coffee is half a cup not to mention crap all down the sides. I swapped it once and then told that's what the machine does. Also the coffee is bitter and burned. Nobody cared.

This was hands down the worst McDonald’s experience I’ve ever had. I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for my order to arrive. By the time it finally came, the food was completely cold, soggy, and honestly inedible. For a global brand like McDonald’s, this level of service is disgraceful. Delivery is supposed to be convenient, but instead it turned into a frustrating waste of nearly two hours, only to end up with food that should never have been sent out in the first place. If this branch can’t handle delivery orders properly, they shouldn’t be offering the service. Absolutely unacceptable, I would strongly advise avoiding ordering from here.

Will never order from this one again would rather travel to glasgow. Thankfully I plated up my "food" after it had arrived only to find a dead fly or wasp in a small fries. I normally order a large and small fries since they never fill it that much anyways, but thankfully I was the unfortunate that got a dead bug in the small fries as imagine that went in a kids happy meal! Disgrace risking getting kids sick. Couldn't even eat the rest after throwing up.

I thought it was great until I was sent a letter advising I had been charged for overstaying the parking limit. As I had not been to a McDonalds before I was informed by a relative there was a time limit. I asked staff and they said I had 2hrs and we left before that and I got fined. Not only that they said it was a final notice and I had never received a letter before. Absolute disgrace. I won’t be visiting again.

I came in McDonald’s for breakfast before school I arrived at 9 and ordered my stuff by 5 past 9 AND WAITED half an HOUR. for my order for them to not of even processed it. Mind you I DID order it and then they proceeded to give us the wrong receipts. Mind YOU not busy AT ALL. and I have school. So this is just gonna make me EVEN more late. NOT ON MCDONALDS! NOT ON.

Best kebab and pizza..... Well, I guess seeing as it's the only one in the Village, it would be hard to disagree. However, whilst the exterior and interior are nice. I can't say the same of food or service. Ordered spicy Italian pizza. It was anything but. Very bland in taste and watery. Imo too many peppers, olives, and celery pieces, not enough fresh chillies, peperoni. Noticed the chef asked the previous customer if he wanted salt & vinegar on his chips. I wasn't (didn't bother me), but when I got home, the chips were covered with salt (no vinegar) Also ordered a large kebab with chilli sauce. Got home, the meat grease had soaked the pitta bread, also covered in red cabbage, with only a tiny amount of meat. If you have to eat here, make sure it's your last resort.

Visiting the area for a week so had to have a takeaway night ended up with bad belly’s for the next 2 days. 2 x Pizza and chips ordered. Tasted 4* tbh & chips were amazing and pricing is amazing too pricing back home but had bad belly’s over this meal. Myself partner and little one shared this meal only and all suffered.

Hawaiian pizza was very tasty. Ordered a burger (not cheeseburger, which is listed separately on the menu). Came with a huge mound of cheese melted on it, all the same. Didn't come with anything else - no sauce, salad, etc. Really very boring to eat. Also ordered fish and chips - which I thought would be a specialty as they have a big sign outside advertising then. The chips were waxy and solid, the batter rather bland. Fish eat big and good quality, but deserved better treatment. Overall fine if you're hungry. Not much other choice in the area that I could find open.

The guy in there was so helpful .. I wanted a fish without batter … he baked it in the pizza oven … it was seriously the best fish I’ve ever eaten … I’m from East Yorkshire .. really wish I lived closer it was that good

Typical pub in a village that was very quiet for a Saturday evening. The portions are quite generous but the quality is average to low.

Nice little pub. Made welcome with the dogs. Ordered the burger and added the cartel dirty fries. Wow so much food. Stranraer is so run down now since the ferries moved to Cairnryan and this was the only pub that actually looked like you would want to go through the door, all the others were very rough looking.

Traditional Pub. Nice Pint of Guinness and very tasty and well presented Fish and Chips. The lady who served me was very attentive and friendly. Toilets were very clean.

Food service and atmosphere is 2nd to none in Stranraer. Live music from Thursday to Sunday at night. Specials change on the menu every few weeks. The food is top notch. Reasonably priced for drinks, offers on some selected drinks/shots. Great atmosphere for all.

The place is always busy for a small town chippie which is a good indication that it’s popular and that the food is good. Ordered a number of times from this establishment and never disappointed. Food is good and portions good too. There is a varied menu with plenty of other options like chicken nuggets, battered sausages etc and including the battered mars bar!! Staff are always friendly and efficient. Great place for a quick bit for hungry folks and small folks.

We had a slight mix with orders but hadn’t noticed until arriving back at our accommodation, we phoned through to report this and the staff could have not been more apologetic and helpful 😌 they immediately offered to remake the whole order and then swiftly delivered it to us which was a good 15 minute drive away. Superb customer service and equally as good food - highly recommended 👍

Cooked to order 4 small fish suppers and a medium fish supper 3 large mushy peas. Honestly some of the nicest F&C we’ve ever had. Perfect portion sizes, delicious and served by really friendly staff. Highly recommended. Thank you!

Ordered a takeaway meal from Phoenix, but unfortunately didn't enjoy it and wasn't that impressed with the quality of the food. The salt and chilli chips were not too bad, however the portion wasn't great. The breast of chicken curry was stodgy, the chicken was tough and question whether it was breast at all. The portion size was decent though. On a positive note, the service was quick and the staff were pleasant.

Until tonight I would have recommended Phoenix to anyone. Called in an order and was told 35 mins so I made my way in and the lady told me it wasn't quite ready, no problem as I didn't mind waiting. I then waited almost 35 minutes. Just as I was thinking to go and ask how long my order would be, I watched a lady take a box of food out of what was obviously their hotbox. She spoke very sternly to the lady serving and looked to be feeling to see how warm the food was. The server then brought the box over, called my name and passed the box over and I walked out. There was no apology, no offer of fresh chips as they weren't very warm and no offer of money off. They were completely oblivious to the fact I had watched them discover the food which was likely already in there when I arrived. I understand that mistakes happen and if she had apologised I probably wouldn't have left this review but the fact they passed over the food and pretended like it had just been made was disappointing. I should have said at the time but the shop was really busy and I couldn't be bothered having to wait even longer for fresh food. The rice and chow mein were dried out by the time I got it home to eat, likely as it had sat for so long as it isnt usually. We used to love Phoenix but after this and them not being upfront and honest we will go elsewhere.

I order from Phoenix regularly, always friendly service from Lisa, the Peking Chicken is really good as is the Chicken Fried Rice and Garlic Chips. We usually get the same meals so haven't tried alot of the food.

I've recently moved here from Glasgow, where there is a huge choice of excellent takeaways, so I was keen to see how Phoenix measured up. It doesn't look much from the outside and could maybe do with a lick of paint, but our food was plentiful, tasty and good value (including a free sack of prawn crackers). There's also gluten-free and some specials not on the regular menu. Phoenix doesn't offer the huge choice that big city places do and delivery doesn't seem to be an option, plus - don't get caught out - it's cash only.

I have tried a variety of dishes from the menu. All have very good with high quality finish. Quantity is good value for money. Everything is fresh and well presented. Lisa and Andrew are lovely and will help with any specific requirements you have.

Does exactly what it says on the tin! I had food from here this evening and I was very happy. I chose to drive there, order and wait. I parked in a residential street opposite, so no problems with convenience, the menu was simple, with a good choice of foods, and, the prices were pretty standard for a Chinese takeaway, so no issues there. The kitchen is visible from the order counter and I can honestly say that it was clean and tidy, everything was labelled and the meats were stored separate, and with fridge spaces clearly separated of cooked, from raw. It seems to be a well run kitchen. The food was hot and we'll packaged so no issues of sauces spilling in the bag, or it getting cold when taking it back to my hotel in the car (although the hotel was less than a mile straight up the road, so not really a big issue to be honest). finally, the food was really very tastey and I enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely be back next time I'm working in Dumfries, and I would definitely recommend this takeaway to anyone. Also, I had the Chinese (katsu style) chicken curry, and it was honestly the best I've had in a really long time. This is a very good takeaway.

Rice overcooked. Barely any curry sauce chips tasted like fish. There's better chineses in the town.

Couldn't give it less stars if I tried. My wife and I got fish and chips each. And the fish was inedible. Bones sticking through the soggy batter. Not surprised as the fish looked half starved too it was that thin. Soggy horrible chips. My wife stopped me going back and throwing them back at them.. I'd rather eat rat, than ever eat there again, my wife bless her actually tasted the fish, but spat it out in disgust. The whole lot went in the bin. What a total waste of money. Do better.

Not much of a chippies guy, but the low prices and generous proportions make this one of my go-to places in Lockerbie for a quick meal before a train. Only ever had positive interactions with the staff, who seem to genuinely care about the community.

Fish @ chips and breadcake . The fish in the batter was none existent iv seen more in a birdseye fish finger the breadcake was dry because it had no butter on it on the plus side the chips were great . We always stop off here for fish and chips when passing through but never again

This is my local chippy. Usually ok but tonight I got 2 fish suppers at £16.40 and so disappointed. One of the fish was so small and more batter than fish. My fish was better but still on the small side. The chips were like re-heated chips and not nice. We both left over half of then as they were so chewy and small. For the price I would expect first class chips and better fish. My option is go to the Starfish cafe as better all round.

++night time review++ So about 1130pm....only 2 staff, a out 40 customers waiting. Food was awful, fries were soggy and cold. One star as they turned off the order board TV so you couldn't see the order ahead of you..... cynical If I'd known the wait of 25 mins I wouldn't have ordered. Poor (Picture on daytime including order board working, as if by magic)

Food looked nothing like what it should. Zero effort from kitchen staff in making a QP & cheese

Used the App to order food from car then pickup to Eat In from the counter. By the time I'd walked from car to counter, the order had been removed from the screen and despite enquiry to counter personnel, the order was left to cool on the side and was packaged as takeaway. My advice, don't bother with App.

Food arrived pretty quickly. Quality wasn't great, one set of fries were hot, the other stone cold. Burger was drenched in mayo, to the point it overpowered the actual burger.

Clean store with lots of different options to cater for everyone. Staff looks a little stressed but it was busy so that’s understandable. Have to pay 10p for a take away bag so be warned!

About 2pm Sunday. Busy. Overhead did not show orders preparing nor ready. Eat in - expected a tray, not a sack. Food ready: what, no tray? It was offered, but later, when I looked around, nobody was given the courtesy of a tray. Clearly, it is a policy to suit the operator and not the paying customer. Drinks followed, and I had to ask for milk for my tea. Little points, yes, but basic service. The fries were tepid, and the burgers were barely warm. It seems they don't really care, so be careful.

We visited this services and walked our dogs around the lake which was lovely. We had a meal.from.chozen which was lovely as we don't eat rubbish. Great services on m6, annondale.

A rare time I wanted a Chinese, but got a dbl cooked roast pork, pekine style, but the dish was over cooked and dry, the meat was chewy. So as it was late, tried to eat, but continued to be dissapointed., it has been better in the recent past. So won't be back there. Cooking is easy enough, but to get this wrong, well, just shouldn't happen.

Lots of difficulty ordering as the menu on Google maps wasn't the same as the current menu. We had two veg curries and they were tasteless. Very disappointed. The seasoned veg spring rolls were fantastic though

Not a local here ,so asked a few people where the best place to go was and they all said here ,was not disappointed, very busy s about a 10 minute wait but we'll worth it ,good food ,decent price ,and very helpful and pleasant locals .

Best takeaway i have had for a very long time!

Really tasty food, very good service and reasonable prices. On holiday in Kirkcudbright and decided to try Canton House, had 3 lots of meals whilst here (hasten to add we did stay for a month)! Really nice food, tasted fresh, great to have decent sized king prawns as opposed to some we have had in the past which claimed to be king prawns but were so small we struggled to find them! These were lovely. Would recommend the sweet and sour chicken as well and the chicken or prawn curry. Definitely coming back the next time we are here.

Terrible service, they get food wrong and when contacted they turn it around on the customer saying it’s not wrong and not willing to change it. Disgusting service on the phone giving abuse towards to the people communicating with them. Would not recommend due to the way they act on the phone and not wanting to discuss their mistakes which is easy made but they won’t accept their wrongs. Disgusting customer service!!

Stood in queue for 40 minutes waiting patiently. At least 10 customer's some before some after us got served and then 3 Turkish guy's came in went to front of queue and got served within 10 minutes. Not good when you have stood patiently. Won't be standing again

Visited Stranraer on holiday with my partner, we fancied a pizza so we went to Istanbul after seeing the reviews and I can happily 100% recommend visiting here! The staff are all so lovely and so chatty. Will definitely come back here when we are back in Stranraer!

Do not order. Dont accept card payment in shop, over phone or online. Money laundering clearly. They make plenty money so no reason not to offer card, over phone or online payments.

Geez ohh, ordered mixed kebab special, got an absolute meat feast. Enjoyed it which you normally can't say about carry out food in Stranraer. Chilli sauce left a bit to be desired but otherwise highly recommended. 2days later ordered same, much more Donner meat this time sadly but Pakora sauce rather than chilli was a very good move. Marked down one star for too much Donner meat. Shop was busy which tells its own story. 3rd visit Shish Kebab, loved it. Back to 5 stars 4th visit they got the order wrong, probably as it was so busy, drops a star. When it's busy they do get orders wrong!! I am being picky, best kebab shop in UK deserves 5 stars. Well done gals and guys

I ordered a lamb doner, with all salad and only garlic mayonnaise and an order of vegetable pakora - after waiting 20 minutes confirming my order 3 times i got home to discover pakora been in the oil too long and was burnt - the doner box was full of doner meat and an uncut pita sitting on top - no salad at all and a little pot of mayo in the bag - very disappointing i will never be near this shop again

Called in today for the first time, 3 lovely ladies there, we ordered a hot sandwich, and a cold one for the journey. I had to grab some home made cake too. The sandwiches were packed full, absolutely delicious and the coffee too. . I would highly recommend calling in, and for what you get, they should charge more. A great deal for a great meal. Went into Rico's 17th at lunch time got served by a young man with long hair and a beard,ask for rolls he made one walked away to have a conversation and a laugh with his co worker when asked a question,stood there for a few minutes and then the lady came over to make the other roll not good customer service on his part,any way another reason for this review is when he came back to the front to serve another person he was picking his nose and then made there roll not very good hygiene,

Stopped for a breakfast, was really good and fairly priced. Only thing I would say is usually get tea and toast with breakfast but was extra. But they may just do things different in my home town/area. But overall very good. Have a large selection (but a love a full breaky)

Spent 3 days in Castle Douglas recently and had a filled roll from here each day. The savoury cheese was lovely ! Food so fresh and tasty and good amounts of filling and salad. Staff friendly and helpful. Top rated and highly recommended !

We had a delicious Mexican chicken baguette and caramel cake with coffee to share which was plenty, it was £11.50!! We sat and looked out at the rain but food made up for that. Delightful staff, lots of regulars in too.

Haven't tried the food yet but it looks lovely and fresh and the sandwiches are made to order. Ciabattas, rolls or baguettes! Cakes look fantastic. I always like Lavazza coffee but the service here makes it even better! Thank you!

This is my go-to sandwich stop when I'm travelling Dumfries to Stranraer. Great variety of fillings, and the granary baguettes are really very good. The selection of cakes makes choosing so hard. Top it all off with staff that are so friendly and take real pride in what they do. Dog friendly too.

Ordered Food to Castle Douglas which is well within the delivery area. Food was nearly an hour late with no update to the customer, I expected a phone call at best to tell me my order was going to be late. Ice cream was a milkshake and the food which was all wrapped in a plastic bag was unrecognisable. I expect some condensation from delivery, however it was honestly inedible. Would it have been good fresh? Possibly, it sounded good. Sadly we'll never know.

Pizza nice, base made from something sweeter than normal reminded me of McDonald's muffin. Their garlic sauce is awful though so tried next door the next night which was a huge mistake

You can't grab a coffee or a milkshake here. They have limited menu now so I've had to stop using this place. I can't use the KFC with a garlic allergy......

Beware when you order off their plant based menu (e.g. vegan royale), that at least one of their kitchen staff member are so poorly trained that you may end up with the meat version in a plant based wrapper. This has happened at least twice, the last time being late May 2025.

Usually decent but it was like staff just put anything in the bag to get the order completed, made customisation changes to my burger staff making it ignored it and gave me my burger including stuff I removed.

Stopped at Gretna services, food good, service good but printer failed to print receipt. Then stood 10 mins and gave up waiting on a copy of the receipt. Just not good enough.

Worst burger King I have visited. Lot of staff standing doing nothing. The place was packed one till on and I order booth working what a disaster. 3 members of staff trying to figure out how to enter a discount code for a customer mean while the que is getting longer and longer. One manager/ supervisor good at shouting.

We stopped by to get our dinner. Service was perfect, very quick and efficient. Shop wasn't very busy and atmosphere was nice and friendly. There is a car park 2 minutes walk away.

Opened at 7 walked in at 7:45 looked at not spoken to carried on putting oil on sausages after 2 trays walked off into back left me stood there. Ended up walking out can’t review the food as never offered any.

Every Subway I go in, the card machine doesn't take contactless payment from my phone (Google Pixel 4a). Same problem every time! Aside from that, the girls were lovely and sandwich was as good as usual.

Ran by children who are completely out of their depth. Thankfully the most senior of them (looked maybe 15) had enough brain to not argue about my refund. Honestly wouldn't go here if I was starving.

It's a Subway, it is exactly what you think it is, if you don't know what it is you may have been in a coma for the past 20 years. In that case it is basically a sandwich shop that sells tasty filled baguette subs, toasted with cheese or not, selection of meats and whatever vegetarians and vegans eat, there is even a vegan meatless meatball marinara.

I often go here for a samdwhich on my lunch break. The staff have always been friendly and the food has always been fresh. Sometimes they may run out of bread later in the day so its better to go in before 5pm to avoid dissapointment.

My husband and I thought it’d be nice to ‘pop’ in for breakfast before picking our click and collect up, what a disappointment! We had to wait 35mins for our food to arrive, no apology was made for the wait just a ‘good job you get free refills eh?’ The food delivered was what we ordered BUT some of it was inedible - I had ordered a link sausage which cost an extra £1.20 and was burnt and full of grissle, the bacon as my husband said ‘you could of used to hammer nails in the wall’, the mushrooms were stone cold, the fried bread was nice but I had to eat it with my hands cos I couldn’t get my fork into it. There were people in front of us that had to ask for their food in take away boxes because they’d waited so long. The staff were friendly enough considering how busy they were, we blame Morrisons for not staffing the cafe sufficiently!

This without a doubt is the worst eating experience we have ever had. Ordered 2 full Scottish breakfasts and pot of tea. £18. Due to the fact that we added black pudding a £1.75 a slice. Breakfast came reasonably quickly but it was disgusting. Every thing seems to have been dumped in a deep fat fryer. Fried egg was hard bacon was cold sausages were nearly back. It was just bad. This is an insult to what we call the full Scottish breakfast. This was fit for pigs. Never again will I eat at a morrisons food cafe.

Over priced, small portions. Price on menu was different to what they tried to charge on the computer screen. Clean, tidy, food was tasty enough, friendly staff. But bigger portions would have been in line with what they were charging.

A nice breakfast before the 250 mile drive home, ordered at the touch screen. Served to the table by a friendly lady with a smile. Food came out hot and delicious.

Visited Morrisons Restaurant Stranraer September 2022 . Food was fine & reasonably priced. Loses two stars for the rather fierce little lady who served us & hovered over the restaurant like a hawk (Was told by a waitress that she was the manager!) Innocently went to use the coffee machine to top up but was sternly told off by the manager that top ups were not allowed ! She snatched the cup from my hand and stormed off like a demented cat ! The waitress commented that she was always that rude ! The same lady then gave off to one of our party at another table about coffee top ups not being allowed and mumbled something else under her breath as she scurried away! ( Perhaps she was just having a bad day) I certainly would not have this lady working with the public, she clearly needs training with regards customer service! It was actually quite amusing in the end, it was like a bad cafe comedy sketch !

Stop off before heading for the ferry. Had a large and small breakfast, bacon under cooked, eggs and sausage well done, beans Luke warm. Definitely not value for money.

Not the first visit here and the food has been very mixed in quality. Poached eggs were undercooked and luke warm, beans were luke warm and toast was just warm bread.Was overcharged Twice and needed to go back to the till about this. On the second visit after standing at the till for quite some time a member of the kitchen staff popped out to tell me to order at the self service machine (not working ) ,back to the counter again for another long stand, three staff working in the kitchen,no one in the cafe and all showing a reluctance to serve. This cafe needs a regular visit from someone in authority to give it a good shake up.

First time in Ginos as i was passing by. Best fish and chips and battered sausage i have had in Dumfries. Freshly made and batter was crispy. Will for sure be back.

Hot freshly cooked food, cooked in clean oil, friendly helpful staff, pricing wasn't expensive and you received a good portion to check this place out on Google has a menu on there to 👍👍we will be using them again

Just had 2 fish suppers from here & the fish was inedible.. The fish had 2 big air pockets at both ends with the tiniest bit of fish in the middle, was probably less then a centimetre in thickness & only about 5 centimetres wide & to top it off it was so overcooked that you you couldn't get your cutlery though the batter, let alone eat it.... ended up in the bin

They make a mean Haggis bap using locally sourced haggis. Was just what I needed after a drive from England. Even saw a salmon jumping in the waterfall across the road which was a great spot to eat this wonderful quickly prepared and cost effective meal. I will return if ever in Dumfries again!

I was welcomed with the broadest smile, that’s the first excellent service! Location: easy to locate; just along the main road opposite the river. Services: It’s a takeaway (dine out) service. Super quick and meal served pretty fresh and hot. The opening hour starts as early as 05:30 so you could order your wee breakfast. Payment: you can pay either by cash or card. Expansive parking spaces available while you wait for your order to be ready. Overall: Excellent service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Probably the best hot filled rolls in town, but you have to stand outside and wait, and will probably see those who order online get served before you… Still, that’s the way the young folks do things these days, so go with the flow!

Hot and cold food to take away - very good prices and there's a couple of chairs outside if you want to sit and eat your roll and have a coffee/tea and have a smoke .

The best thing about this Subway is the staff, they were amazing today when we were in and gave us lots of info on what to do on our stay. Subs were fresh and tasty and the shop was clean and tidy.

We love subway and always make a point of calling in whenever we are in stranraer as it's our nearest (but still 32 miles away!) The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful, the food is always great, very fresh and super tasty. Just wish there was a branch nearer to home.

Good food and coffee served by friendly staff. Nice and warm in seating area which was very welcome on a cold December day. Hard to rate the atmosphere as it's essentially a take away.

The young girl that served me, wasn't exactly paying attention, she put 2 scoops of steak on my foot long it bearly covered the roll I got red onion and mayo on it,it was £8 with a cup drink.. I was absolutely gob smacked..the other girl that was serving made my mum the same roll and what a difference in the filling.. It was worth every penny of the £8

I got a salad bowl,extremely small and not a lot of variety.Quite pricey for what i got.Probably won't use this place again even thought it is very close to my home.

Disappointing, most choices on menu not available at 1430 on a Monday. Katsu prawn with rice was one of the limited options left. Katsu taste of aniseed. Only 2 prawns provided, when challenged told this was their standard serving. Very unappetising. £7.95

Phillis just served me the most scrumptious, delicious, gorgeous bacon, sausage, egg and mushroom bap I have ever had. She even asked me if I’d like my egg yolk broken. What a lady.

I go to a lot of services through work and I don't usually leave reviews, but on this occasion I was very surprised at the service I received at chozen noodle. The young blonde girl with glasses on had outstanding customer service, very attentive and chatty, she seemed to actually care about her job despite being really busy. The food was fresh and tasty, with plentiful portions. I will definitely make a point of stopping by more often. The katsu chicken is to die for. A+

Popped in today on my way home, lovely staff, brilliant service and a good choice of food available. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the sticky chicken.

Last time I ate out of here the standard of hygiene was very poor because the workers hair wasn't tied back they where playing with it when serving food and the other thing is they weren't washing there hands after touching there hair they also kept touching there face and playing with their make up
