We stumbled upon this establishment tucked away overlooking the small beach, a dirt track hides this gem behind a locked gate. Menu and conversation is all in French, the patrons were all french as were the staff, although some of them do speak English. Service is quick, very helpful and friendly. The menu is fresh every day - lots of choices in the fish as wel as for meat lovers. But mostly fish of course! Lovely cocktails. Nice choice of wines. We attended just before the summer school vacations. I imagine in the summer it is hard to get a table. So reservation needed!

Stunning setting and lovely food. We had a fabulous meal here while on holiday. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic, they seemed to appreciate our attempts at speaking French but they were probably just being nice. The food, cocktails and wine were all excellent and the views are beautiful. I wouldn't bring very young children just because it's quite small and intimate but older children are fine. Access is down a small track and through locked gates. The tables overlook a small private cove with views to the islands. Would definitely recommend as somewhere special to eat.

I had booked a table months in advance before arriving to France. When we arrived the waiter seated us at the table below the main area of the restaurant but didn't give us a menu or nor did he pay any attention to us for about 5 minutes. We instantly felt uncomfortable and disengaged so we asked for another table. The waiter was surprised and questioned us in a very rude tone as to why we are wanting to change the seats because apparently this is one of their best seats and one that is very hard to book. We then explained that we much prefered to sit at the top floor to soak in the wonderful views this place had to offer while also being part of the ambience. We both felt that the waiter was very rude and unprofessional dealing with the whole situation. We felt that asking for a change of table set us off on a wrong foot to start with. Our food arrived and to my surprise, my dish Fruits De Mare was nothing I expected and I ended up eating only the prawns leaving the rest on a plate. The pasta shells were enormous, the bisque overpowering, the big chunks of parmesan cheese covering the dish completely out of balance and heavy. I could barely taste any seafood because the bisque was so strong and unedible. The waiter then arrived and asked how was our meal, after which I politely explained that this is not what I expected. He then looked at me with his eyes full of amusement and said that this is how that dish is prepared in France. He was goijg around circles justifying to us why this dish was prepared the way it was served but did not offer to remove the charges from the bill or offer me anything else instead. We would not be returning to this restaurant after that given the disappointment.

If I could give this more stars I would. The food here was very very good. All the fish options were spectacular and the desserts were amazing. The setting was quiet and the view beautiful.

Want to eat bouillabaisse? Look no further. We've come here for 10 years and have never been disappointed. Lovely presentation on a cork plate. Friendly and competent service, who at request will also help to remove the bones and describe the fish.

This was the best Bouillabaisse I have ever had. It was not just a meal; it was a delectable Provençal ritual in food that needs to be respected and cherished. Prepared and overseen by fantastic artists from sea to table. This must be somewhere near the pinnacle of food with its humble beginnings as a fisherman’s soup made from what was available to this majestic feast that cannot be improved and Restaurant le Pothuau is the basilica. Give them 24 hrs to create it.

Five stars for the great seafood, especially the generous and semi-elaborate fish soup service. Three stars for making us feel so small when we asked to pack up some leftover food and received a snide remark of "I don't have 50 boxes". We were allowed to take the fish, but were made to throw away the potatoes and delicious ratatouille.

We were greeted by several of the staff as we arrived which made us feel very welcome. We came for the 'soupe des poissons' which we enjoyed here a few years ago. Rich and brown, it's served the provencal way with cloves of garlic, croutons, rouilles and grated cheese. The tureen for two was huge and the quality as we remembered. This serves as the base for the bouillabaise - which is available without ordering in advance, but is pricey at 54 euro per person (minimum 2). The grilled dorade off the 34 euro menu filled us up to the extent we barely had room for the dessert of tarte tatin, or creme brulee etc. A feast to remember!

Nice place by the port, with nice staff. Unfortunately I am allergic to one of the item not written on the menu. When the dish arrived I asked why this item was not indicated on the menu and I was told that it was part of the condiments. I felt a bit frustrated as I did not want to bother them but kind of expected a gesture from them for miscommunication (coffee offered or else). This reflects only my own experience.

I had a great experience for lunch with beautiful views of the harbor, quick service, big and delicious salads at reasonable prices. Because we enjoyed our lunch we returned with friends for dinner a couple of evenings later and had the plate of the day of souris d'agneau for 19€ paired with a delicious recommended red wine. Part of a tourist location, we weren't let down.

Very pleasant restaurant overlooking the boats at the port. Had a steak with a cep sauce, which was really tasty. The service could be a little slow at times and the meal could've done with a bigger portion of salad.

Our food was on our table working 2 mins of ordering and somewhat luke warm. The kitchen pre prepare the plates in advance, not freshly prepared to order. The staff unfriendly and seem to take it personally when we complained, they told us ‘this is not a five star restaurant’ They gave us a small discount after complaining to the manger but what we really wanted was good freshly prepared restaurant food. If you looking for freshly prepared food, this is not the place to go.

Waiter and waitress were perfect Food was ok Pastas overcooked and it’s impossible to choose how you want the meat of your burger cooked. That remind me of a restaurant which has been closed for sanitary reasons, they were pre cooking the meat of their burger among several other problems.

Cosy evening for our family dinner. Very friendly personable fast service. Huge portions of fish and seafood. We took some of it home. Great organic wine. And dessert was shared as this too was generous! Menu also in English.

Rude service, not polite to the customers, no smile at all; long waiting for ordering. The wine brought to the table was different as it's indicated on the menu. The beaf steak was very hard, tasted like rubber. The tuna steak was served with frozen sauce and the french fries were old. I would not go back again. Very disappointed experience!

Restaurant was located in a very busy alley which, during Covid times, is not ideal. Despite that we had a very nice experience here and would highly recommend it! We had the lamb shank and squid pasta which was delicious. On top of that the waiter was very friendly!

We went on a Tuesday evening and got a table without a reservation quickly. The door with a fish on it already invited us to and after climing up the stairs, we were not at all disappointed by the nice view over the little port and the sea. The furniture is modern (plastic seats in various colours outside) The menu is reasonably long and the restaurant offers special lunch menus most of the days as well as a menu of the season for dinner. Service personnel is friendly but not the most attentive. The food was very good in any ways. Well combined flavours well prepared, although there could have been a little more finesse for the preselected menu, maybe the a la carte menu offers more.

We dropped in for a quick snack and wow, what a surprise.... The hummus is the best I've ever tasted and the presentation is top notch. The crudo de thon (like a tuna ceviche) was equally as tasty and beautifully presented. Even the crunchy wholegrain bread was delicious. Decent portions and prices too along with friendly service. I speak French, mind you, but my partner and I were talking to each other in English - I assume that’s why this waitress felt the need to treat us like she did? Great restaurant on the beach in l'Almanar commune de Hyeres in the south of France. The Soup de Poisson was excellent as well as the Brochettes de Mouton. Highly recommend it. Better call to reserve.

It is quite pricey. we had one of their fish of the day which was exquisite and their vongole pasta which was kept quite simple. That one was not crazy but still a very lovely restaurant.

Overpriced, was exited to have diner there based on the menu, but did not match expectation at all, my lobster spaghetti dish was poor for a price tag of € 45, almost insulting, didn’t want to complain at the table we just pay the bill without taking any dessert or coffee, do not wright review normally as I am an Executive chef myself but he had to be said. Was excepting a better quality and at least home made spaghetti but they were clearly bought in. Minimum amount of lobster lucky if I had 70 to 80g in the plate, we are travelling every year since 2016 in the Provence region and being s family of foodies we are eating in several restaurants during our stay but never been that disappointed before. Staff were friendly I enjoyed the wine but the food was a disappointment. I know from previous reviews that the owner do not take criticism very well, but you just need sometime to take in on the shin recognise that you could do better for the price you are charging and make sure you are meeting client expectation, this is the nature of our business. We loved this place - they opened early for us even though we didn’t ask - great service - fabulous fresh fish with table side deboning - very nice touch. My beef was delicious- cooked perfectly but would have liked a bit more meat for the price. I would go back and order a seafood platter to share. The local red wine I had was delicious. Their friendly staff were professional and warm and even indulged us as native English speakers. Excellent spot.

The restaurant looks really nice, inside is clean and airy. We had scallops which were good, and the pasta with truffles and chorizo which was a desaster. Chorizo was hard as rock and the pasta was cold and looked that it was seating on the counter for an hour. My husband asked to change the dish, the waitress put the fork and knife on the table and left with the dish. They warmed it up in a microwave which made it even more gross. My kids pasta with clams was similar. The bill was 180 euros for this horrible dinner and experience. I am usually eager to give a positive review and happy to pay the high cost of the restaurant for a great meal and service but this was disappointing. A dinner that was promising was horrible. We all left in terrible mood.

I’m putting a 3/5 because it was okay overall. The food was not the best to be honest. It was beautifully decorated but for the price, it’s a bit too high for “normal” food. The service was very bad. The waiters were really nice, but we waited 15-20 mins to order, we waited more than 1h30 mins to get the food and then we waited another 20 mins to get the check. We were very tired and it was just too long.

Returning now with my wife, I was filled with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation. I'm absolutely delighted to report that this restaurant has not only maintained its exceptional standards but seemingly elevated them. From the warm welcome to the attentive service, the entire experience was a delight. And the food? Simply superb. Each dish was a testament to the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the kitchen. Maurin des Maures is more than just a restaurant; it's an institution. It's a place where culinary tradition meets unwavering quality. Bravo to the entire team for preserving such a wonderful dining experience over the years. We had the fish of the day, which was beautifully presented and tasted excellent. Sitting by the window we had a clear view of the sea and apparently it was jazz night because we were surprised by four talented musicians who made it a memorable dinner experience. We arrived a little too late for the daily lunch menu (starter, entree and dessert) and were told that we can only order from the regular menu. The item we all picked out was not available (beef stew) so we decided on the cheeseburger with fries and salad. The beef patty was delicious but the burger was built wrong. All condiments were put on the bottom which made the bun really soggy. The fries and the side salad were good but the ketchup (bottle) was expired back in July. Other than that it was a decent lunch. 4 burgers with 2 glasses of wine and 2 Cokes came to 90 Euros, so not necessarily cheap but since there are not many options at the end of January, you have to take what's available.

We were 2 tourists from Canada. We found the restaurant to be way way below average in quality and nowhere near the prices commanded. The staff were arrogant and the owner walked around with a huge chip on his shoulder. A question we asked was met with a shrug as he walked away. We do not recommend this restaurant.

We went to have late lunch and it was fully booked however the guy at the restaurant was very kind and cooperative he managed to get us a table for 2. Was just traveling through a few nights ago and they were absolutely wonderful. Our waitress was so kind and lovely to us! One of the best restaurants we‘ve been to during our trip to the Côte d’Azur. They have a good vegetarian selection as well as some vegan dishes. The staff was super friendly and welcoming and the food just delicious. We can only recommend that you visit this restaurant! The fries as a starter were really good, my highlight was the octopus risotto and also the cappucchino creme brulee as a desert was amazing.

Lovely ambience, really enjoyed dining under a large tree in a leafy, cosy garden. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us. The food was truly delicious! I was so happy to be able to have a vegan pannacotta.

The pizza ingredients were good quality and well baked. It was nice to be able to customize our pizzas including having a large selection of cheeses. The only true disappointment to the meal came at the end when I ordered the coffee which must have been improperly prepared because the espresso served to me was quite diluted and not terribly tasty. When I complained about the coffee the manager showed me that they were indeed using authentic Italian coffee (Caffe Vergnano)…but didn’t offer to rectify the problem by making me another correctly made espresso (despite himself having said the he suspected that whoever had made my espresso probably hadn’t tamped the coffee powder well enough).

Hidden Gem in Les Salins. Best restaurant in the area. Can’t wait to go back. Menu items were typical local fare. Had a perfectly executed “bleu” steak and wife had delicious grilled whole fish. Should have accepted offer to debone but decided to go it alone. Place was packed with locals shortly after we walked in without reservation. Great wine for both and they have a lovely wine shop attached. Will get a seafood platter next time.

The starter didn’t fully meet our expectations, but the main courses were absolutely delicious and offered excellent value for the price. The desserts were wonderful as well. Our waiter Ali’s warmth and attentiveness made the experience perfect despite the our language barrier. Five stars for the food and service!

Top. Went there for a Easter lunch. We had a full menu formula (starter, main, dessert) with a variety of tasty dishes. The service and food were fantastic. Decent portions for fair price value (in this area), especially if one decides to go for the mentioned full menu formula for 29€. They also served us free bread with an olive pesto as antipasto. The whole service, our waitress and the rest of the staff were friendly, hospitable, and with a welcoming vibe. Highly recommend to check this place out if you're in Hyéres and would like to eat good food in a lovely restaurant with authentic cuisine. Absolutely shocking, frozen fish with tikka sauce and rice from the packet served for 21 euro. We only went as the place has many good reviews but honestly there are so many nicer restaurants at the sea front. This was so so disappointing!

The best food we had in a restaurant in the south of France, the food was excellent, plated beautifully and the food pairings were extraodinary. My foie gras with gingerbread was the best starter i have ever had. The owners are very welcoming. If you are ever in Hyerès, it’s a must-visit spot.

In the center of old town Hyères, this restaurant is straight out of the 1970s. The decor is all Middle Ages with chastity belts hanging from the ceiling. The wait staff is particular. One criticized our choice of an “out of region” wine while the other was a Tim Burton character. The food is traditional French fare, heavy on the red meat but well prepared.

Rude waitress, mediocre food, expensive for what it is. AVOID. The restaurant has a cute/tacky medieval ambience. The mood was very quiet, there were only 2 tables seated, and we were placed at the corner of the terrace (the farthest spot away from the door, this is important) despite there being plenty of room elsewhere. We were also keen to take a look inside the restaurant because there are all sorts of decorations inside, and were told that we were being a nuisance by distracting the staff. At first, everything was fine (aside from our odd encounter with the server who did not want us to see inside the restaurant). The medieval drinks we ordered were tasty, the menu seemed fun and we were excited to try our dishes. We ordered a few round of drinks, and the server started making us feel as if we were being a bother (for ordering for more drinks at a restaurant!). After our very mediocre starters, as the waitress collected our dishes, I asked for another glass of wine and the was told that we were being too demanding, and that she “could not come and serve us every 2 minutes”. It was shocking, rude, and completely uncalled for. Two minutes later, she arrived with our mains, acting as if nothing had happened. I spoke my mind, told her that her comment was rude and she should not speak to customers that way. Instead of apologizing, she blamed me for not ordering all my glasses of wine at the same time. I was appalled. As for the food, the burger was alright, and the steak tartare (facon Thai, in a medieval restaurant) was bland and virtually inedible. Without eating our food, I asked for the bill and we left immediately. The bill was 132 euros, the biggest waste of money I’ve ever spent in my 20 years visiting Hyeres as an adult. Overall a very negative experience. Of the 2 wait staff, the brown haired lady was incredibly unpleasant. They placed us as far from the door as possible, and then complained to us that we were ordering drinks. I understand that as a waiter you sometimes feel overwhelmed, at which point you politely ask your clients to be patient, which would have been no problem at all, but the contemptuous nature of her discourse was unfortunate. Don’t waste your money here.

A restaurant with a nice ambience. We ate fish and rib of steak. The fish was very good, had a nice taste and wasn't dry at all. But the steak was not that good, also the price was a little bit high

Food and service were both fabulous. I don’t understand why there are so many negative reviews. We enjoyed the three foi gras. The scallops were delicious. The Thai salmon was perfectly prepared. And the chocolate mousse was great for two to share.

We found ourselves very well in this restaurant, although at the table we were served by a person who did not know English, she was always smiling and made every effort to try to accommodate our requests. Thank you. The fish is excellent and fresh and the prices of food and wine are absolutely acceptable, so keep it up. Bravo!!
