Exceptional place! Worth recommending! The food was exceptional quality, the team is very knowledgeable. Try oysters with gin, tiny sliced ham with bruschetta, or duck, fish, meet- all dishes were awesome. The dessert Norwegian omelette is outstanding!

One of the better restaurants in town with the highlight being the Entrecôte and Veal steaks, which were both cooked perfectly. The langostinos were also good by the avocado and Lobster salad was a bit bland. Profiteroles were also good but the chocolate cake wasn't memorable. Overall we enjoyed it and would recommend

Quite a strange experience - the room was lovely and the service was good, but unfortunately it was let down by the food. We went mid week and had a fixed price lunch - me a starter and main, my uncle a main and dessert, with the food arriving so that we both had two courses at the same time. My squid starter was good, but my uncle's main of 'flying bird' (it turned out to be chicken) looked pretty tough and over-cooked. We asked about this, because I had ordered the same for my main, and the dish that appeared for me a few minutes later was almost unrecognisable as the same course! So - a good experience overall, but it's a shame when a restaurant with good service can be let down by quality control in the kitchen.

There were good and not so good things. Let’s start with the good: The atmosphere and deco is very nice. Staff is welcoming and kind. Some of the food we tried were tasty and not very ordinary. Not so good: The chairs at the terrace are metal without cushions so in a slow dining place, it makes painful to sit for a long period of time. My son chose lamb chops and he asked well done. Finally the meat was rare and very hard. Since they didn’t ask us if we were happy with the food we didn’t give this feedback, not to make a fuss. The dessert we chose was the worst part. It was a raspberry red pepper tartare, so sounded very interesting and experimental. It was experimental but not tasty at all, two random ingredients put together to experiment. And even though we said we didn’t want aperitifs, that we would have wine with our meal, they made us chose the wine before we chose our food and the glasses arrived long before our meal. So I think this restaurant has a great potential but it really needs a good counselor. We left the place neither happy or unhappy.

I did not quite understood why this place has a michelin plate. It is a bistro with extremely high prices for the food they offer. Presentation is bad - one dessert looked like it came from supermarket. It also did not taste that good The meat and fish were mediocre - too basic for 30+ eur price. This is the main complaint - if the price was 30 eur per person for at least 2 plats - it was serviceable. For 60 eur per person with 1 glass of wine - you better get better! It was hot inside and no air conditioning was on. The waiter was kind and really happy to help but was really hard to catch.

Chose this restaurant from the Michelin recommended list for Cognac. The restaurant was a short walk from the hotel. We had an early reservation and we were given our choice of tables upon arrival. Upon seating, a board with warm gougeres was served. The menu is one page and features a variety of things to share and main course plates. We shared the fish tartare which was similar to ceviche but came with a delicious creamy paste. No cocktail menu, but you can order pretty much anything and they will make it. I had a delicious gin and tonic. With our main course we requested wine pairing and each plate came with its own wine. There were 3 choices for dessert but we considered our choice a miss (peach and brie) - flavors didn't work for either of us. All in all a delicious meal otherwise.

On a cognac tour through France and we stumbled upon this outstanding restaurant. This restaurant is the real deal. The interior of the restaurant is modern and clean. The wait staff was attentive and passionate about enhancing their patrons’ experience. Recommend the fixed menu (approximately 32 euros) and asking the sommelier for a complementary wine pairing, you won’t be disappointed. Note for foreign tourists: the staff we encountered spoke English, which was important as only of one of our group spoke French. Reservations are required, so book at least one day in advance. Highly recommend. Google ratings are accurate.

The interior courtyard seating is great. Arrive just after opening time to get a table there. The food is creative and well executed. My favorite dish was the foie gras with strawberries and balsamic vinegar.

Nice interior for nice British type pub. Ribeye steak was delicious, though a lot more fat than needed. But biggest disappoinment was the pork tenderloin, it was 3 small mignons that were pretty dry, but tons of potatoes that are yummy,lol. But when the dessert came, I was so happy, really nice asst'd platter. The bottle of 2014 St Emilion was an added surprise that was delicious and well priced.

We saw the reviews for this restaurant and were intrigued. We visited after our tour at Remy Martin and was greeted nicely. The atmosphere was nice and the service great but the food came up short. Although everything was beautiful it all lacked any type of flavor. We had to ask for salt, pepper, ketchup and mayo.

A delightful French apple tart: crisp pastry with tender, caramelized apple slices, balanced by fresh whipped cream and a touch of citrus. Simple, elegant, and full of flavor.

Visiting Le Coq d'Or was a pleasant experience. I went with a party of 14 and then alone. Both days the food was delicious. The atmosphere felt inviting. The staff was attentive and patient, though sometimes forgot to bring things that were ordered.

It was a beautiful evening to enjoy a meal outside by the river, but the grumpy guy at the bar gruffly shut that suggestion down. Should have turned around and left right then because the 4 mains we had were below average, except the beef - which was as tough as a mule’s hind leg! Definitely one to avoid.

I loved this restaurant in the summer. So I decided to treat a friend and husband to a special meal. Sadly not to be. We arrived having booked for 7.30. We were seated and our order taken. Then we didn't see anyone for 1 hour and 10mins, fortunately we caught the eye of our server she apologises, and promptly brought 2 of the 3 drinks ordered. After a while they brought our main , so we asked for our starters. Which we finally got. Our water jug, was clearly empty which never got refilled our glasses removed when our starter was cleared, never asked if we would like another drink and then our reheated main meal arrived. We decided against a desert and coffee, when presented with our bill there was a short apology but no compensation offered. The food was very nice. So perhaps I shall revisit in the summer.

I have given this place multiple chances to get it right. The food is mediocre at best and there’s zero spice. They don’t even give you the option for spice. Service is abysmal. They all young and clearly have management oversight or training. They all act like they’re doing you a favor. Deliver the wrong order and don’t even apologize. It’s very rushed. And last time my companion was sick for several days after. Won’t go back

Excellent service and food. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. We went at lunchtime and I certainly recommend booking. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food and drinks arrived very quickly but with sufficient time between courses. The food was excellent, well spiced but not spicy hot and very tasty. We will certainly go back. Recommended.

The Shrimp Pad Thai is delicious. All the best restaurants have a sofa, like this one. The two waiting staff were attentive, the food arrived quickly, and there was a relaxing ambience. The toilet was clean. The only improvement I can suggest is that they should add prawn crackers to the menu.

Sat in the garden and enjoyed a wonderful ambience. Food was delicious, with a wide range of starters and mains. Fine selection of wine and cocktails. Also Thai and local beers on offer. Friendly and attentive service. The quality of the ingredients was easy to see and brought the dishes to the next level.

They are suppose to close at 2:30 but at 1:15 when we arrive, they very rudely shooed u away. Unacceptable ! Not sure if is because we are not of European descent and/or because we don't speak French. I can't recommend.

Awesome find in Cognac after searching for a highly rated place. I guess the Cognacais are a tough bunch to please, most places not rated well. The scallop dish was amazing as well as the mini desert platter. This place is great, wonderful food, cool decor, I would just change the hip hop music to something more aligned with the clientele, which all had grey hair. Very nice presentation and tasty food. Great wine list and menu. So many places in cognac have a very small selection of entress and plats.

We’ve been there twice, it’s a really good place for a small town. The meat (entrecôte) was very tasty, home potatoes was also good. Both risottos are good, but I recommend the vegetarian risotto with mushrooms.

Two words, PERFECTLY AMAZING During a two week road trip round France myself and my partner went here. The food was AMAZING. The portion sizes meant three courses was nicely done. Foie gras was so light and fluffy, the steak tartare in bone marrow was amazing and the cookie with lemon curd was a perfect finish. The service was great, they were there for us without an ask whenever we needed anything and the wine menu more than sufficient.

Family-friendly and quick service. Although the English language is not a strong point, they really tried, and for once we had English menus... Food is very good, and the service matches it. All in all a very pleasant experience!

A second visit to Chez Aristide. Food is actually quite good (if you get any), but quite possibly the worst service I’ve ever received anywhere. 55 minutes for some tap water, 1.5hrs for food. 3 times asking for some bread for the children to accompany the butter… never arrived. 160 euros. Zero apology.

Horrible experience. very long to see a waiter and get the menu, and no knowledge on allergies which is very important for my family. Our waiter was nice enough, but the manager didn't care to come talk about our experience. If you are looking for a nice professionnel family lunch or dinner this is absolutely not the place.

Excellent service and reasonable set menu. It's obviously a favoured local spot as lots of people known to the owners came in to drink and later eat. Good background music despite the TV screen shoeing the local rugby game - TV was muted! Food is good - not excellent - but tasty and plenty of it. Nice ambiance.

Good place to experience traditional French cuisine. A little on the expensive side for us. Needless to say we have been and won't be in a hurry to return. No complaints about the food.....just not our style.

The worst entrecote ever, wished i ordered tuna steak with goat cheese (I really find goat cheese disgusting). Horrible service as well...avoid this place. The knife was not sharp enough to cut through the too rare entrecote, the picture is what is my plate after I gave up When ordering a second glass of €23 XO cognac they bring a different (not as good), after complaining they still can't get you the same as you had before...

The place is lovely, but the food could've been better. The pancakes and the waffles were sold out, and the drinks tasted very watery too. Our service forgot one drink and served another drink wrongly. Maybe that's a thing to work on. Otherwise, the people who worked there were very nice.

This used to be a lovely place which we visited every year time we came back to Cognac but tonight it was a disappointment. The staff were not welcoming, service was flat, no atmosphere despite it being a busy Saturday evening. Food was just okay. The Mojito was not a mojito (it was missing a key ingredient), the menu has been slimmed down from what it was, offering less choice, such a pity as it's in a great spot but we won't be returning. Updated on 16/08/22 suffered from food poisoning have eaten the beef tartare here, definitely not returning.

Beautiful place and location, but service was slow and overrun and not overly friendly... We enjoyed the Cognac cocktail we tried, and they have original choices such as Mexican beers and sodas. We didn't try the food as kitchen is only available from 19.00 (and probably for lunch, I guess)

Beef with salad and bake potato was all very good! The duck with baked potato and salad were magnificent! Tender and sooo flavorful. Desserts beyond perfect! Dame Blanche and lle flotante au caramel Maison, Tres bien!

Food was nice enough, if very greasy. Be very careful if ordering a cognac with your pudding, as you might end up buying a glass costing more than your meal! Always ask for the price around here if something is recommended

This is a hidden (quite literally) gem. The square is busy and noisy, yet this little bar with the hotel building is well designed, calm, and served the best cocktails. Perfect for a chilled pre- or after dinner drink.

Damien, the bartender, is very professional and makes amazing cocktails. His entire staff is very friendly and courteous. Whether you stay at the hotel that the bar is a part of or not, you should make a stop here and have a drink. I definitely recommend this bar.

The Royal Cheese I had here was possibly the best McDonald's hamburger I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked and nice and warm. McDonald's at it's very best! The employees I interacted with were all very nice. It was easy to order from the kiosk in English, grab a number and enter it into my order so that it was brought to my table. The best part is that they use reusable plastic glasses and french fry containers for people who are dining in, cutting down on waste. Fantastic!

Usual high standards as are shown throughout France. First encounter with solid plastic re-useable French Fry holder and drinking cup. Only in France apparently, even the Americans don't have them. Quiet and calm atmosphere. In the the heart of Cognac.

McDonald's for breakfast. Well a fast food restaurant that wasn't. No coffee. Not available. McDonald's without no coffee available who ever heard of such a thing? As for the pancakes.......the size leaves a lot to be desired.

My wife went into this McDonald's in cognac for chips,coffee she was actually the only customer there and it took them 30 minutes to serve her, and the chips were cold and limp and the coffee was like warm ! Your lucky to get one star,do yourself a favor and go a little further up the road to burger King,much more pleasant.

So glad to find this open on a Sunday evening. Everything was excellent. The staff were welcoming and super-helpful. The food was good value. Quite a standard menu but with some nice twists. Generous portions. You can't fault the location. One of the best views in Cognac. Also (my particular obsession), the music was not intrusive. That wins an extra star from me.

The food in this restaurant is mind blowing. Very delicious and beautifully presented. One of the best dinners I had in the region and it was not over priced. It deserves a Michelin star. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the cognac region.

First time here and wasn't disappointed. We booked a table for 6 to celebrate my wife birthday. On arrival the table was set for 4. The staff quickly rectified the situation and the celebrations began. The menu was varied and vegetarians were accommodated. The set menu at 29€ is very reasonably priced and good quality. The specials board were explained in detail by the friendly and attentive staff. The wine and Cognac selection is extensive. The location is perfect, on the banks of the Charente opposite the Hennessey building. The staff made my wife feel very special and the whole experience was wonderful. Excellent food and service.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was clean and the floors and surfaces looked spotless. We had 4 mid sized pizzas for a family of 6. They were tasty and good value. If you have more boys the girls in your family you may need to get 4 bigger pizzas but for us it worked out well. With a clue of bottles of water and a couple Desparatos the bill came to just under €50 which we thought represented excellent value. I would eat here again.

I visited the cafe with the hope of enjoying a good cup of coffee, given their reputation as a “torréfacteur” and the high review score. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. The flat white I ordered was the worst I've ever had, surpassing even those from vending machines. A red flag was raised when I was asked if I wanted a small or large – not a great start. The drink was disappointingly "water-y," with the milk foam resembling more of a cafe au lait than a proper flat white. The milk was steamed excessively hot - boiled?, forcing me to wait several minutes before being able to take a sip. I can't comment on the coffee itself since I couldn't bring myself to finish the drink. The most alarming aspect was the waiter's neglect in cleaning the steam wand after frothing the milk. While the interior didn’t suit my taste, it might appeal to others.

Coffee was excellent and the boutique offers a wide range of products (including Nespresso-ready capsules ) from very diverse origins (Columbia, Costa Rica and even Yemen )

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Service was terrible, we got 2/6 of the of the food dishes and none of the drinks we ordered- waited forever and then left without eating, only for the staff to ask if we wanted dessert. They need to sort out their service.

This is one of the few times a restaurant has cancelled my pre-authorozed reservation for lunch because "the have a large group of guests". Terrible service! Unacceptable!

Lovely setting and amazing hotel. The restaurant was a real disappointment. We ate here with a large group of friends and we waited over an hour for our food and it came out cold.

The surroundings and location of this place are amazing. The service a long time however (over an hour and a half for the main course) and the servings were so meager that I left hungry. Definitely not up to expectations and little value for money.

For a hotel with first class luxury qualification the brasserie did not cope at all. Disappointning. Service was very very bad not worth spending the budget.

Very enjoyable lunch with good service in a pleasant environment. A well priced two / three course Formule lunch is available, which we opted for this time. The portion sizes are generous and we found the quality has remained equally consistant to our previous visits.

Absolutely love this place! I’ve heard about the mixed reviews this place has recently received but must admit our experience was wonderful! We were served by a well experienced and funny bald waiter whose name I wish I knew to mention him. It was quite busy but there were a few tables free for walk ins inside although the balcony was fully booked. Inside however the setting is gorgeous and so creatively put together, not to mention the food was superb. As a group we had pizzas, calzone, a burger and a risotto, all of which where delicious, perfectly cooked and elegantly served. If you haven’t visited this place before or for a while then I would definitely recommend. Although we were too full for pudding these also looked amazing and the cocktails were very good meaning there’s something here for just about everyone! A special thankyou to the waiter that served us despite our terrible french and complicated order- you made our evening a delight 😊

We came for Dessert and a Digestive and really enjoyed. The Ambience + decoration is really lovely. The desserts were amazing! I can really recommend the Brioche Caramel Beurre Salé.

Crêperie Olympia is a well-established favorite in Cognac – and for good reason. We came for galletes and left with very happy faces and bellies. I really enjoyed the Bretonne, perhaps my best single plate of food during our visit to Charente, and tried KREMMIG for the first ever time on an ice cream crepe. Awesome. Also the variety is so huge, there's something for every taste. Fine interior from a converted cinema lobby. It would be my first place to revisit in Cognac!

Outside it looks quite dated. But it is beautiful inside. The food and service is excellent. The fixed lunch menu is €12.80. It was full so reservations are often needed. We’ve noticed on a regular basis they have a sign up outside saying only reservations. There is lots of space between the tables so not crammed in. It has an open kitchen. It is certainly a place we will be coming back to (very very soon).

Lovely family run restaurant with homemade food of a really fantastic quality. All the dishes are really understated. I had the salmon gravalax and it turned out to be beautiful slices of salmon that the chef had taken himself from a whole salmon he'd bought. The fish of the day was superb as was the chicken dish. Service was incredibly friendly and efficient and the prices are great value. A gem in Cognac. It was so good we came twice!

You could easily walk by this place and miss out on one of the best meals you've ever had. The risotto is a gem, and the chocolate cake was amazing, something I will revisit in my mind often. Restaurant ambiance was quant and clean, friendly staff. Location is right in the middle of the town center.

Friendly service from a waitress who was more than happy to attempt English. Quiet atmosphere, civilised but not uptight decor. We had the cheaper entree + plat option, great value for money. The pork terrine was a huge helping, must have, and then the chef's dish of the day which was a thin rump steak with frites and pepper sauce, at medium rare it was tender and flavoursome. For dessert one simply must have their fancy ice creams, comes with some sort of sweet whipped cream, one serving is enough for two!

I've been in France for about a week now and this was the best meal I've had yet. The staff is very friendly and patient with our language barrier. I will be returning before this trip is over.

Loved this small family run restaurant. Food was of the highest quality, great presentation and friendly service with a great range of choices including for vegetarians and fish eaters which is rare in France! They also have a huge range of cognacs and liqueurs for tasting and were happy not to rush us over a relaxed lunch with friends.

I asked for a spoon, first the waitress came to verify that I was telling the truth by checking under my plate, kir cocktail was served in a wine glass and when asking what is in the café gourmand, I was told that she doesn't know without offering to go check from the kitchen. The food was mediocre. I ordered filled raviolli with cèpes, duck magret and foie gras sauce. I was served in a bowl, everything was swimming in sauce and there were 2 slices of duck magret. It would have been more inviting to be served in a plate with much less sauce. And with more magret.

Food was really good and very fresh. It came very quickly and the service was very friendly. We searched Cognac for a pizzeria and couldn’t find anything of any quality other than here. I had half and half pizza as couldn’t decide what to have. A great idea. The outside looks a bit dodgy but don’t let that fool you as it is a lovely smart modern interior. Very family orientated, open plan kitchen, clean toilets. Fully recommend.

This place is a good family restaurant. At first, the choice of recipes makes you doubt about it but the size of the kitchen explains it. There is an inner terrasse. This is really nice and secure for young children. The service is efficient and they have fries for the youngest!

The food was very good! I had a true french omelette which had a wonderful crust on the exterior and was creamy on the interior. The rest of dishes were as good, and tasted home made. We ended with a cafe gourmand and crepes. I highly recommend the cafe gourmet especially the crème brûlée 😁

We ordered chicken and received sausage. I had duck which was supposed to be with vegetables and it came with salad and the worst fries I have ever seen. Not good, in fact it was terrible.

Shame to have to be constantly bothered by wasps from a nest above our heads. The location of which was pointed out to the management. I trust they will deal with it. Otherwise it was a great location with great food prices.

On the 16th of May this year we were a party of 4 people who ordered the stake tatar at this restaurant. All of us got sick the day after, me worse than the others;( But the weekend was destroyed and I can absolutely not recommend this restaurant after this incident. I hope the French Health department is making a visit soon.

A charming hotel on the outskirts of Cognac. The focus on locally sourced produce provides for an exceptional dining experience - cheeses, jams, vegetables, not to mention the cognacs (displayed in a magnificent, fireplace-scented library). My wife remarked the herbal tea was the best she'd ever tasted - all procured from the grounds. Breakfast is a treat with a bewildering variety of locally created jams: pear-safran-cognac, mirabelle-reineclaude-cognac, peach-basil, to name a few. A visit of the parc, extending out to to the Charente River is a sheer delight. A very memorable weekend.

Great value for money, the AC was a lifesaver, we had temperatures rising above 41 degrees outside. Had a bit of a mixup with the dinner, due to a new employee not booking our dinner table. So we ended up having quite a late dinner, the ebtree being served just before 10pm. Other than that, a free hour of private spa, a pool and the facilities themselves were awesome.

Great stay expérience in general - highly recommend the gourmet dinner and the staff is super friendly! The room is slightly old fashioned but well equipped and big enough for a couple. Only thing can be improved is the breakfast - limited choice for the ones who prefer British breakfast (scrambled eggs only) - considering the price (19.8 euros) which cannot be satisfying. Must visit the jardin respectueux!

I wanted to add the review for the restaurant, but google always directed back to the hotel, so here we go. Loved it! The view, the food, the services, nothing to complain! The infusion of cognac into everything from cocktail (cocktail du moment) to coffee (french coffee) and dessert (choux crème) was perfect. Absolutely recommend.

We loved the positioning of this charming hotel, with views on the Charente valley. The staff was very positive, and the restaurant just charming, with delicious plates with mostly local produce. I would like to mention the Cognacoteque, with a pretty extensive list, from Lheraud to Hennessy Paradis or Louis XXIII, with pretty good prices. The only thing that bothered me was the pool, which was not heated( and it was raining) and the smell in the spa >>there was a strong Chlorine smell. But the massage was just 🤩 wow! I usually have low expectations for a massage in hotels in France, but Emmanuel just proved me I can be wrong. 😁 Just try the massage, but be sure to book in advance.

Nice to find a place where you can eat at 3pm. Most places in France close between 14h30 and 19h00, this can be annoying especially when you are ravenous 😅 They had a lot of customers when we arrived and they warned that there would be a wait, nice that they did that.

I love Garen Ice Cafe. It was right next to the hotel I stayed at. Food was great, service, and drinks. I came here every day and the view is beautiful.

This brasserie is a good choice in the middle of old town de Cognac. Their burgers and moules aux frites are good. The vibes are nice and the staff was very welcoming.

Prepare to wait 1 hour for a simple menu of the day, then it will be brought half cold. Service is terrible. When you ask waiters for the order they suddenly fail a simple English question. A place to be avoided!

A regular visitor here, food is generally ok, although much better off season. Staff are friendly & accommodating to those in our party who spoke little French.

The food was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but it filled a small gap. We had been walking in warm weather for a while so our first drink was a beer and it was beautiful. My wife went for a croque madame which she enjoyed and I had the plait du jour. I started with some chorizo and filo pastry affair which was quite strange. The chorizo was absolutely gorgeous though, cooked to perfection. I then had chips with a couple of small breaded fish fillets. Whilst they were ok that is probably about it. I closed off with a coffee and three mini desserts, all good. My wife had a scoop each of strawberry and pistachio ice cream that strangely came in a bowl each. She made both magically disappear and sat there smiling The staff were three young folk, and they were really good. They were seeing to a decent lunchtime trade and did so with efficiency and lots of smiles. All really rather decent. Edit; We returned here and enjoyed a really good crepe. I had chocolate sauce and cream, my wife had butterscotch sauce and cream, yum yum!

We came to cognac for 1day and really enjoyed LUNCH here. Friendly service, of course & nice ambiance. Open kitchen as you can see the chef prepare your dishes. Beside the flavor and presentation on the plate and quantity was very generous. Highly recommend this establishment. See pictures for reference but menu change base on season. For a complete lunch menu only cost €34.00 per person. We will definitely come back to Cognac for this restaurant again.

We stayed in Cognac for one night and went to this restaurant for an evening meal. Not cheap but absolutely delicious. I had a veal dish and my partner had a fish dish. Both were presented beautifully and the taste was packed full of flavour and textures. The chocolate dessert was just as delicious. If you want that casual but high quality French cuisine experience, I highly recommend eating here. Keep in mind that they have a reduced menu - less choices but the quality of the food is impeccable.

If I could award six stars, I would. I don’t post many reviews, but Poulpette is truly outstanding. Amongst the best cooking I’ve experienced anywhere, not just in France. And I’ve been fortunate enough to eat in some spectacular places. Perfectly judged and imaginative dishes that will live long in our memories. And don’t bother choosing the wine, just leave it to them and try something wonderful that you’ve likely never tasted - or even heard of. It was so good that we cancelled our reservation at the Michelin starred Les Foudres in Cognac so we could go to Poulpette a second time. If Poulpette was in London or New York, you wouldn’t be able to get a table less than three months ahead of time. Honestly, if you can get a table, don’t bother with anywhere else.

Amazing experience, 3 course lunch menu is 32 euros, but totally worth it. Vegetables are incredible, the tomato tastes naturally sweet, the fish is tender and fragrant. The dessert is fantastic, very rich chocolate with sorbet that’s is not too sweet, delicate and elegant. Hats off to the chef!

Lovely little place. Went on a Saturday lunchtime. Had a choice of 2 starters and two mains, and both were well received by our party. Wonderful flavour combinations. Not cheap, but well worth it.

From a teen: the waiting time for the food was very long, we waited for the food for at least 45 minutes. The bread was so soggy and no longer crispy because they were drenched, DRENCHED in cheese, way too much ( and that’s said from a person who loves cheese). The fries were also soggy. The service was alright, misunderstood an order and missed a drink.

Rude waiter, rude taking the order for drinks and when delivered to the table they were slammed down. Definitely one to avoid. We moved after one drink to the Brasserie l’express qnd the difference in service was amazing.

It was a busy Saturday with the Blues festival in full swing, but we were able to get a table in the shade and enjoy a pleasant lunch. The waiter was working very hard, but could have used some help as he was very stretched. Good simple food, nice coffee, recommended.

We had dinner at Les Foudres in Cognac the other night, and honestly, it was a great surprise. The place is inside these old Cognac cellars, with huge wooden barrels all around — very atmospheric but not over the top. The menu is creative without being too complicated, and you can really feel the focus on local ingredients. Service was kind and easy-going. It's the kind of spot where you enjoy a slow evening, good wine, and dishes that actually make sense. I’d definitely go back.

A Michelin experience as only found in France. Went for the extended prestige menu, which did not dissapoint. Excellent wine pairing and service. The menu dessert was a bit dissapointing, went for the hommage a ma maman instead, which was amazing.

We visited this restaurant for the first time and were singularly impressed not only by how delicious the food was but by the creativity in design and presentation shown by the chef. We were a party of three and we each chose different dishes. Every course was delicious. The simple sounding artichoke was incredible. It was designed to look like a little artichoke but was made up of artichoke tempura, little green basil raviolis with a mousse of artichoke heart in the centre all beautifully flavoured and absolutely delicious. Lobster is one of my favourite foods but it is very difficult to have it perfectly cooked. This chef produced a fabulous lobster dish with all the succulent opulence one hopes for trimmed with delicious vegetables in a beautiful, intense lobster sauce. The attention to detail particularly with regard to the vegetables, which were a treat in themselves, was truly remarkable. This restaurant is not cheap but the quality is very well worth the price. The restaurant itself is stunning the service was excellent without the over formal behaviour of waiters sometimes found in Michelin starred restaurants (they were smiling and friendly). We could not recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Though professional the staff are somewhat pretentious and the dishes are unnecessarily complicated. Everything is perfectly cooked but the result left us with a heavy feeling. Delicate is perhaps subjective, but little about this dining experience came across as such. Good selection of wines of course and good sommelier.

Horrible. Very sad experience which could have be solved by head chef Paulo Boscaro, but ultimately inflamed by him. A few notable reasons for the assessment: (1) The fish course had lives WORMS in it. Explained by Paulo himself as seasonal and a result of the heat, and was unapologetic for the incident. (2) We had babysitters organised and asked for the duration of the Degustation Menu, and informed it would be 2.5-3.0 hrs. 4 hours later and members of our party having to leave we were served the final dessert chocolates. (3) For the duration of the sitting we had to serve ourselves our water, and remind the sommellier what of the two reds we were drinking for our respective meals. Below par for a “1 star” Michelin. (4) Upon raising an issue with Paulo directly, he cornered a member of our dining party in the lift to explain herself for her complaints. She was exiting with two other dining members (female). The incident has been offed with the hotel management, and the police. Ultimately, this venue calls itself a Michelin One star but falls disgustingly short. Much of the food we consumed was fantastic, but the experience was well short of what we all hold in the highest regard; the Michelin assessment. Paulo should be removed and hopefully formal proceedings will deal with that, and Michelin should assess its criteria for stars beyond a few good courses. Respect and experience should be prime.

We had high hopes that this would be excellent. However when we arrived we had trouble finding the restaurant, lack of signage and no staff. When we did fins it there was no one to welcome us and the staff were positively surly. The food was very average and the service was terrible. When I paid the bill, which had a couple of items that we did not have on it, I gave the girl my feedback on the evening to which she just shrugged. I would not go back to this restaurant. Overpriced and under delivered.

Had lunch at this restaurant during our visit in Cognac. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Service was efficient and prompt (given our short timing). We had one of the main course with Cod which was fabulous and the beef tartare was excellent, so well seasoned and with a great dressing. The fries were so good. Would return there without any hesitation.

Lovely meal great service with a smile

We stopped here for a quick break and a glass of wine (delicious!), and have been very positively surprised by the warm welcome and lovely service. They even allowed us to stay and sit outside beyond the opening hours. Highly recommend French conviviality.

With hindsight, I feel less stressed by the place so the rating is higher than it would have been on the evening of our visit. We had reserved our table and arrived precisely on time. But then, after being seated, we had to wait for 28 minutes before the next interaction. (!!) We proceeded to order two starters to share between 3 people, received both in a timely fashion, but with only 2 sets of silverware and no extra plates... The "palourdes with moules" were a lot of moules with only a few palourdes and the chicken was slightly burnt and the mushrooms in my opinion did not reflect what was announced on the menu. We could have complained, I realize that, but we were tired and just happy to fill our stomachs. From the gorgeous setting and the ravishing smile from the owner when we arrived, we had probably expected too much.

Second time here and not disappointed. Fabulous menu, reasonably priced. Attentive staff and nice decor makes this a great place to share a moment with family and friends

Eating under a canopy of lighted trees in a beautiful private courtyard. Service was exemplary. The menu is not extensive but each dish we ordered was exquisite, 3 of us we had one of each option. The menu changes weekly according to what is fresh and seasonal on the market. Everyone was rolling their eyes back in their head in delight. I’m a veggie eater and the dish they made for me was flavorful, delicious and beautifully plated. The desert was so good we ordered an extra to share! Reserve you will be happy you did!!

Loved the service and the smiling staff here. The food was fantastic and the lovely, covered courtyard garden made for a great setting for our last meal of our holiday in Cognac. Not sure not sure if they are on commission with the local distilleries as there was pressure to drink Cognac (€12 a glass) but why not :) if you're in the region, get involved. Had a really great evening here.

Disappointed I had found this place on Google and had it recommended by people in cognac. I was excited to enjoy an evening here with my wife for our birthday/anniversary celebrations. We were turned away Saturday night as we did not make a reservation but returned Sunday at 19:30 for a spot on the river. Whilst taking our order the waiter walked off halfway through our order, I assume it was because of an issue with his hand held device but there was no explanation given. We got the attention of a second waiter who was helpful, we placed our drinks order which we received quickly and we ordered our food. This is where things fell apart. Our main courses came out whilst we were still enjoying our aperitifs and before our starters had arrived. Our wine never arrived and we were ignored for the rest of our short stay. The restaurant was not busy, they did not seem to be understaffed so I cannot understand what went so wrong. What should have been an enjoyable, relaxing long evening was instead an uncomfortable, hurried experience, we were out the door before 20:00! The food was good, but it was horrendously let down by the service. Not impressed at all.

Such a disappointing visit. We had seen lots of reviews saying how great the food was, but it was just fine. Not bad but nothing special. What really affected our enjoyment was the really poor and frankly unfriendly service we received on our visit. Upon entering the restaurant for the first time we were greeted by who I assumed was the maitre d', but it was not a warm welcome we were met with, rather a "is there a problem here?". Very strange. We were sat, and ordered a couple of aperitifs, which arrived quickly, no problems. Then we ordered a mixed platter to start, plus 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine. The waiter disappeared half way through taking our order with no explanation, and so we had to flag down one of his colleagues to ensure our order was taken in full. Unfortunately the mains arrived about 3 minutes after ordering, at which point we had not yet had our starters and were still enjoying (trying to, anyway) our aperitifs. So we decided to cancel our starter. To add to this, the wine failed to make an appearance at all, but we had decided by now that we did not care to wait for it, as we just wanted to eat and escape to another venue asap. The restaurant was not busy at all, but we were ignored for the rest of our stay. We were looking forward to spending an enjoyable couple of hours on their terrace, and instead we were in and out within 15 minutes. I'm not sure if they were having an off night, or just didn't like the look of us, but either way I begrudged paying €60 for the displeasure.

My favorite restaurant in Charente. Amazing cocktails along fantastically creative food of which half are vegetarian. The staff is friendly but also very professional. The lunch menu has 2 appetizers, 2 entrées and 2 deserts of which at least one of each is vegetarian. The dinner menu has many more dishes.

Delicious food and cocktails! I love that it’s tucked away from the main street, giving it a unique vibe. Can’t wait to come back for the midi-menu and to enjoy the cute terrace in summertime. We haven’t tried every restaurant in Cognac (yet), but this one is definitely in our top 3!

Twice in one week, that’s how good l’Arty Show is. The staff and the service they provide are simply delightful. Pleasant, polite and always with a smile. The food is innovative, something different every day (check instagram), local, seasonal and fresh ingredients, with the portions just the right size. At EUR 24 for the full 3 course menu this is very good value. If only every town had an independent restaurant like the Arty Show, the world would be a much better place.

Super simple but tasty food with great service at a decent price. Just needs to add a zero alcohol beer to the menu ant it would be perfect.

Checked online reservation site that a table for two is bookable before walking there. Didn't bother to book online as our hotel is just a 5 minute walk away. When we arrived, noticed that there were still lots of tables available, but the receptionists told us no tables were available and bluntly asked us to leave. Perhaps they just don't welcome Asian people. Discrimination at its best.

Fantastic burger! So much flavour, fresh ingredients, the bread and chips were also 10/10. Excellent beer selection and amazing staff, they were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Cannot fault this place, if you're coming to cognac then le garage bar should be on you list! Also geared up for live music! Definitely will be visiting again when I return.

WOW! We had a fabulous lunch at Le Garage. I had the burger with hash browns, which was delicious and so different. My husband had the steak and was very pleased with his choice. The wine was also excellent, and the café gourmand is not to be missed! We were made to feel very welcome, especially our two small dogs (they even made friend's with the bar's sweet dog, Joyeux). If we return to Cognac, we will definitely go back for lunch or dinner!

Wonderful bilingual service and fantastic food. Burgers and classic bistro fare with a wide selection of wines and beers. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Really great stop for an uncomplicated lunch or a casual evening meal. Live music at various times of the year - we will have to come back in the autumn to experience that!
