Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Falun Municipality

Visited in February 2024. Like all Basta restaurants - great interior, makes sense. Pizza dough was partly dry, not really airy and juicy. Toppings were fine and general service at the level. Of course, Basta is good choice always.

The pizzas were moderately burned, strangely chewy and they weren’t very balanced taste-wise. The margarita we ordered was abnormally sour and so oily I felt like I could see my reflection in it. The Gamberi was decent and the Risotto was pretty good. The atmosphere and interior was amazingly beautiful and had some real character. With colourful bottles and art combined with constant Italian music playing the vibe wasn’t bad at all. All the prices were on the higher side of the average and I wouldn’t consider it worth the money, even considering the amazing interior. The staff were nice but service was quite slow but understandable since the place was slowly filling up.

My friends took some pasta and the recipe was not the Italian one, but since I’m Italian I must say the pizza was very good :) almost like in Italy!! I recommend it

Ive ordered coffee, but service dosent knew if they have any. And sugestted me to order anything else from menu... But the food was good and cheap.

Amazing interior and excellent staff! The food and the cocktails was as always tasty and good and can't wait for the next time I visit. Visit on an Saturday at 17 was an busy moment but anyway really fast service and got our pizzas fast.

Nice looking restaurant in Falun. The pizza were not that great (I'm Italian), indeed the restaurant is not owned by an Italian. The atmosphere is on the contrary really nice and cozy. I would rather suggest it for a drink pre or post dinner rather than for the food. The staff was kind and professional.

BlackStone in Falun is a must-visit destination; the food is exceptionally delicious, and the "Chocolate Bomb" dessert is aptly named. Felice provided professional and friendly service; the industry would benefit from more employees like her. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Nice atmosphere and its cool that you can grill your own meat. The side dish was pretty bad, soggy old salad and dry baked potato. For this price I expected better quality.

A very pleasant place to have dinner. You can cook your own meal while at the table and therefore you are able to prepare your meat the way you like it. The waiters/waitress are nice and helpful and smile a lot. If you are here, go inside and have a great evening! Oh, try the chocolate bomb!

One of the best, as per the location. Pros - Rates are genuine. Quality is ok. Humble and polite staff. Provides good services. In case they are short of the product, they try to arrange it taking the responsibility. The place is easily reachable and has ample space for parking. Lots of varieties and traditional cuisines, wines, ritual and regional sweet cupcakes, pastries, cakes and confectioneries.

Slow but delicious! We took the six persons set tapas menu, an it took more than 2h of serving. But everything was excellent!

Service tends to be a little like the lottery. Some days it's there, some days it's not. It's the one thing that keeps the place from becoming a top spot. On the upside, food is of high quality and beverage selection is large. Prices are also deemed good for what you get.

Tried Banken Friday night as my daughter wanted good meat and I had heard great things about the place. Walking in, first impressions were great, looks like a really nice place, then the service was fantastic. Wanting beef, we asked what the nicest cut was and we were recommended the Entrecote. This is where disappointed came. I managed to eat mine (medium rare). I have never worked so hard to eat a piece of meat, and usually I can eat the whole piece and fat doesn't bother me, my daughter got half way through hers and gave up trying. (Same cut cooked medium. My partner had a dish with both oxfile and flaskfile. The oxfile was absolutely sensation but the flaskfile was dry. Who ever cut mine and my daughters meat should have known it wasn't good enough to serve, if you really have to serve meat that quality, use it for something else or use it for well done so it melts more fat. Over all, I was very disappointed with my visit, paying top dollar for substandard cuts of meat just doesn't seem right. Great atmosphere. Good service that would rate higher if they knew the meat quality when we enquired. 2 out of 3 meals should never have made it onto a table, other meal was partly fantastic.

Great food but missed some sallad for the main course. Friendly and good service. We were seated in an inner room that was much quieter than the outer room. Which was very nice!

A really nice place in a real former Bank building. The food is high quality, the service good and you can spend a nice evening with friends or colleagues. Prices are according to the quality which I find just fair.

I have lived in this city long enough to fairly evaluate its restaurants, and unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had. We were a group of nearly 20 people celebrating a colleague, yet we were seated at four separate tables despite the availability of long tables that could have accommodated us together. The service was far from satisfactory, and the food quality was quite poor/ the fish and chips, which I honestly couldn’t rate even 1 out of 5 ! Additionally, there was an issue with the payment system that caused significant delay. I don’t think I will be returning, nor would I recommend this place to others.

After some years of been here for first time, I came back and I tried this delicious and beautiful Crème Brûlée. The service, the environment and the place are really good! Happy to come back and totally recommend.

This was by far the best Pitcher’s I’ve been to in Sweden. The kalvschnitzel was simply fantastic, and the kids also loved their food. The owners are super friendly and the kitchen was very fast. They make their own mayo and other sauces. I will definitely come back here to eat and for drinks whenever I am back in Falun.

Ordered the Caesar sallad. The portion was very small and it felt a little cheap to only get a total of one (1!) small cherry tomtato when the dish costs 209:- but aside from that there was nothing wrong with the food and it tasted good. The service could be a lot better and it was hard to hear what the staff was saying.

Terrible service. I did not even get seated or attended in any way after more than 5 minutes, also there were very few people at the place, so I just left.

I ordered the tempura udon for 165 SEK which is a bit on the higher side. The shrimp tempura was drowning in the soup which made it extremely soggy by the time it got to the table. The soup was spicy which I didn’t expect (since udon tend not to be) and the noodles were so overcooked they felt like tofu. I suspect that both the tempura and noodles were frozen which really doesn’t make the price worth it at all. The Oyakodon was good and tasted very authentic with a nice crunchy chicken. The California rolls were also pretty good but the flavours just melted together. The ingredients didn’t really play their own part but felt more like they blended into echother. I felt that two out of the three staff we interacted with were quite nonchalant and almost rude. A staff member came to light the candle at our table, which is nice, but they just came up, said “hi”, lit the candle, left it at the edge of the table and walked away. I’d personally ask if I could light the candle and maybe how the food was while lighting the candle, so it felt a bit odd. It’s almost a nitpick but it felt like being in another strange dimension because the way the staff acted didn’t really feel ‘normal’. Something in the back part of the restaurant gives off a faint smell of urine and sometimes a breeze of burned food the nose. The guest toilet is in the back part which could explain the smell. —Edit as a reply to the owners’ comment:— The parts about how I went to complain about the udon texture, how we got free sushi and how full the restaurant was is completely false. I never went to complain about the softness of the udon directly to the staff. I personally asked the waitress about the spicyness of the udon, nothing else. We never got any sushi other than the California rolls we ordered. The restaurant was almost completely empty when we ordered and around the time we got our food. The place only started to fill up slightly when we were eating (about 6 more people). We came to eat the 27/1 at around 15:30 so I believe you’re confusing this matter with another.

The flavours made my evening. I enjoyed the Ebi katsu and the okonpmiyaki. And the service was amazing. I'll come again. Especially for the robot.

They have good food with decent price. The food was served by a robot. Only the kimchi was a bit saucy than a normal kimchi which we find a bit weird but the taste was good.

Love the atmosphere in the restaurant feels like home, love the tiny robot waiter. The quality of the food is beyond great, super fresh almost feels like I'm eating a live fish. However I did have to wait almost 30 minutes for my food, I understand it was due to the restaurant being full.

If you're looking for some good, playful sushi north of uppsala, this is it. Last time we ended up here by mistake, this time we drove about 6 hours to see if that mistake was a lucky day or not. It wasn't. Sushi is fun, hot dishes in general is good (karaage was great, wish they'd do it Korean style though) and all our sides delivered deliciously. Get in. Sit down. Enjoy.

I been here about 3 times and from that I learned that they got good customer service, perfect soup and delicious food. For more details: Their soup is perfectly made the best taste of these soups I had, their soy sauce is so perfectly mixed to mix with the fried chicken and rice. I don't often eat salad but the ones with these topping I don't resist eating them cause the sweet taste. What I had and what's on the photo is their "Karaage" which I personally recommend.

Food was AMAZING, but service was lacking. Waitress laughed when we told her we had a reservation for 10 ppl and said she thought we were joking? I am Canadian so I had to get help interpreting the menu, cuz it was all in Swedish. I pointed to what I wanted on the menu and she still got my order wrong. They need better help, but again the food was spectacular. She was pretty and sweet but not very smart. Sorry but it's the truth.

Bishops Arms provides wide variety of foods and drinks. In my personal oppinion I would say it's aesthetically pleasing and has good lighting. It also has an outside seating area and a wheelchair lift. All this combined makes a good bar/restaurant.

It's nice with nice staff, ok to good food and a huge selection of beers. (few eco tho) Franchise so if you've been to any Bishops Arms before you know what to expect. Enjoy!

The food was delicious, especially the starter and main course. Exquisite! The ice cream for dessert was a little lacking and monotonous. I think they can do better. Service is super. Attentive, kind and relaxed. The atmosphere is a little weird. It’s supposed to be like eating at someone’s home but I feel like I’m eating at my grandmas old place. Meh.

The place is nice and service was great. We love the main course, it was delicious. We had skaldjuraflld ravioli for our appetizer, it was not so good but it was okey. We will definitely come back but I think we would order different appetizer next time. Overall, we had a good time.

Yeah, this was just a bad experience, ordered the "hamburger" however you can't call it a hamburger, they just give you a minced steak with lettuce and bbq sauce, that is right no bread, you can't call it a burger if it does not have bread.

De stämde bra fick vi erfara, bra avvägda rätter då vi valde ”kockens val Femman” som visade sig vara en sjua, några fina smårätter serverades mellan de övriga, över lag bra, något okryddad/osaltat rentartar men i övrigt väldigt gott och trevligt serverat, några höjdpunkter var tirskrygg i sås av havskräfta och en suverän äppelsorbet med calvados som kocken själv smög in som en ”liten förrätt innan efterrätten” väldigt uppskattat och trevligt att träffa den som var skyldig till smakupplevelsen. Great place with fun concept. You need to use an app to order, because we're tourists tha app didn't work for us but the staff were super nice and took our order. The food was nice, a bit greasy.

It's a great experience to dine here! Everything is ordered via an app and you get a message in your phone when you can pick up your drinks and your food. The food was delicious, served in tapas sizes, but not just Spanish food, but food from different countries. And the furniture and decoration create a cozy atmosphere of a circus.

Not really well a priced menu, the fish and chips are literarly fish sticks with sweet potato fries, and the crispy Bao doesn't have any resemblance to the menu picture. The lunch was okay overall. It tends to get quite crowded during lunch hours, and while the payment counter moves fairly quickly, the wait for food to be refilled can be long. I ended up skipping the queue for one of the warm dishes and just sat down to eat. The salad buffet looked a bit sad, some items were practically just water with barely any salad left. Staff could definitely do a better job checking and replenishing the food counters more frequently, especially during peak times. There's potential here, but the experience could be improved with better crowd management and quicker food restocking.

I had a very nice meal here during a trip around Sweden. The fish taco burger was really tasty, as were the fries and aioli. The in-house brewed IPA was pretty good too. I’d go back in a heartbeat. But like most things in Sweden - it wasn’t cheap.

Very good burgers at this place and craft beers (from a local brewery : Villovägens) The restaurant is one of the best spot in town with a big terrace along the water. Perfect for a summer lunch.

The place is really nice and the boss is also really cool to talk to. He told me about the history of the building and why red houses are red. He also made me taste that red beer. It was a very nice stop to Falun and the food is also good, that’s important for a restaurant I guess. I recommend this place at 100%

I went there for dinner. They had good selection of natural wines and the Italian red was amazing. Burger was really good, very juicy, spicy and well grilled. Taco fish was just ok, pricy for that small portion. Overall I enjoyed it!

Very nice atmosphere. It's a very small restaurant and if you're not careful you're going to hit your head on the beams in the ceiling BUT the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. One of us is vegetarian and it was no problem at all to order from the menu and have it modified to their dietary restrictions. Big plus!

The stars is for the location and for the cosy atmosphere, right next to the water. Unfortunately they did not allow us to pay in cash, which cuts down the stars. We ended up taking a coffee, sitting outside which was nice.

Let me give the a short and long review of this place based on my experiences. The short review: Don't eat here. Just don't. It's the absolute worst. The long review: So, where to begin in terms of everything that's wrong with this place.. 🤔 OK. Getting in, we found that there are no self service machines like in almost every other fast food restaurant you'd visit. This means people have to queue to place orders. This is where the nightmare begins. Apparently they have a system where they take a person's order, then take their sweet sweet time preparing that order while everyone else is still standing in queue. When the order finally comes through (it'll be cold actually), they then go to the next person in queue. 45 long minutes we waited in that queue! 😲 The service is horrible. Employees are completely disinterested in offering any service... It's like you're actually disturbing their peace by walking in to make an order. The food is well below par. The jalapeño fries I love are abysmal here. They just squirt a little bit of some strange thick sauce in there, leaving the whole thing dry, pathetic. I left this on the table untouched. I saved the worst for last: This is the most filthy, disgusting McDonald's outlet I have ever seen in the whole wide world! 🤢🤮 It's absolutely horrible, the floors are sticky with spilled unknown substances, several chairs and tables are littered with leftover food, sauces, and food/drink containers. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, we struggled to find a place to sit since every table was an absolute mess. Clearly none of the tables had been cleared for the entire day. Even the bins inside are overflowing with garbage!? 🤢 I shudder to imagine what it's really like inside the kitchen area. Again I say, don't try to eat here. You'll regret the long wait, cold meal, filthy seating, etc. I made sure to take several pictures for you to see and make your own choice.

One of the slowest serving McDonalds that I know. Otherwise it’s usual McDonald’s standard for meals and seating. There is an indoor and outdoor playground at the location, this may be good for families with young children. I give it one star due to the slow service compared to other restaurants of this kind and that it is dirty on floors and tables. The time to receive food was 21 minutes today, there were four customers in line in front of me.

Because they don't have the option to order on a computer I had to order over the counter which took WAY TOO LONG! The cashier (who btw did not wear a name tag) seemed like he was all over the place and it also took forever to get my order which was incomplete. He used his phone in front of the customers and did not wash his hands. The coffee was burnt. Hands down the worst McDonald's experience I've ever had! The only positive things were the fries and the toy that came with the Happy Meal.

This place sucks. The other mcdonalds are better. This one took ages to get food. The soda machines was spreading cola all over and most of the things were empty. Toilets were not cleaned for ages.

We decided to dine at this restaurant for lunch while traveling from Rättvik to Stockholm, as it was advertised as an Indian restaurant with a 4.6/5 rating on Google Maps. Upon entering, the ambiance was impressive—clearly themed as an Indian-inspired restaurant. However, it felt more like an Indian-themed setting than an authentic Indian food-serving establishment. A notable feature was a large painting of the cricket legend Imran Khan on the wall. We ordered Chicken Biryani and Seekh Kebab Masala. Unfortunately, there was no lunch buffet available. Each dish cost around 180 SEK, which seemed reasonable at first. The food arrived after about 20 minutes. To our dismay, the Biryani tasted like Butter Chicken Masala mixed with basmati rice and a few dry, fried chicken breast pieces. Being from Kerala, we found it bland, lacking the depth and authentic flavors of real Biryani. The Seekh Kebab Masala was another disappointment, consisting of smoky kebabs dunked in a plain tomato sauce. The rice served alongside was undercooked and had a rubbery texture. When we requested boiled rice as a replacement, the second serving had the same issue. Overall, the experience was deeply disappointing. We cannot recommend this place as an Indian restaurant—it does not represent the true taste of Indian cuisine.

Ismail who was our waiter made this a very nice visit for us. I hope the owners appreciate him. Relatively fragrance free and allergy and vegan friendly. A lot of choices on the menu but the two dishes we ordered tasted the same. Was quite nice but a little on the sour side. The naan was good. It felt a little bit overpriced but costs are rising. We paid 500 kr for two people including two fizzy water drinks, two dishes with rice and naan. Nice and quiet place to sit with an upstairs balcony. All in all I would recommend it- especially thanks to Ismail the waiter.

The service was absolutely brilliant — warm, attentive, and welcoming from the moment we walked in. I had only tried Indian food once many many years ago and, for some reason, I didn’t enjoy it back then. That one experience put me off for a long time… until yesterday. Me and my company decided to give Indian food another shot, and I’ll admit, I was a bit nervous at first. I did a little research to find dishes I might like, and once we arrived, we all ended up ordering different kinds of Indian food to try a variety. And I’m so glad we did, everything was incredibly flavorful, rich, and delicious. This visit completely changed my perception of Indian cuisine. It was a delightful surprise and such a great experience overall. If you’re hesitant or new to Indian food like I was — trust me, this restaurant is the perfect place to start. Give it a chance. You won’t regret it!

We originally wanted to have lunch here but found out they only serve cold food after Midsummer Day, so we skipped it since we prefer a warm meal for lunch. That said, we visited the café twice in a week — both times for their homemade ice cream and a cup of black coffee. The lemon sorbet is to die for! It reminded us of the one we had in Capri. The other flavours were nice too, not overly sweet or sugary, but the lemon sorbet really stood out. Highly recommended if you're stopping by! Not to forget, the view up here is so peaceful. A lovely spot to pause and soak it all in.

Falun Bowling is a wonderful all in one place where you have a bowling hall, a pub/night club and a restaurant. This place has something for all ages. All young ages are admitted att daytime. I strongly recommend to visit this place especially if you are new in Falun😊

I went there with a group of friends on an evening where the entrance was free. We had a great time, the music was good and the club in general is really nice. Usually when travelling in Dalarna you're looking for the rural fika place or local dala cuisine. And that's fine, but that means missing this urban gem in central Falun. Their pulled pork and karré burgers are delicious, well balanced, exquisite sauce that embraces the meat and the bun and makes is well-balanced. The home-made sliced pickled cucumber gives it perfect moist and makes you lick your fingers. Should be served with the cajun potatoes and not with crisps though or perhaps spicy sweet potatoes. That'd be quite something. Still the best of two worlds. Southern slow smokery and Dalarna's hospitality and kindness. Service is awsome, staff humble and down to earth with a calm and friendly atmosphere. Like Dalarna but smoky and with a southern cajun touch.

Overpriced, we ordered the Back Breaker for three people with some extra stuff for about 1150 SEK. The meat is barely lukewarm and for a 100g of pulled pork you can get almost a whole meal somewhere else. The staff wasn’t anything outstanding but the atmosphere was really nice. There wasn’t a band playing there at the time which could be a reason to why it was enjoyable.

The pulled pork was really really dry. The hot chicken wings were of really low quality and the hot sauce on top was horrible. The only good thing was the cocktail, really really tasty. Also, the don’t serve fries but just give you cheap chips.

There service was excellent, even though they were under-stafft. They were very nice to us guests and were very helpfull. But there atmosphere was almost so good that I felt like I was a part of them. They were not a typical Italian restaurant. They were not that fancy but very wellcoming.

We had a good time on our kayak provided by Human by nature, the lake and scenery were amazing ! Unfortunately one of the kayak was not well adjusted (the backseat and feet were not well maintained) so that it was not as pleasant as it could have been. It hurted quite a lot during the whole session. Please make sure to adjust the kayak according to the person height and weight between each session.

We booked 2 days at the RV parking area and prolonged our visit with two additional days. The RV area is great. Large spots, fresh showers and toilets, emptying of trash, gray and black water and fresh water refill. Small Beach and water equipment rental, restaurant and small shop at the reception (nothing useful though). Great weather, great swimming, great stay! Warmly recommended.

Clean, cozy & well designed cabins. The cabins are perfectly placed on a beautiful hill near a lovely lake. Went here to ice skate and ski, lake was snow shoved a few times a day, and skiing resort was half an hour away. Good WiFi in the cabins, really enjoyed my stay.

We stayed just for a day and rented a canoe for a trip on the lake. It was fantastic. The price was very good, very friendly personnel that we're all fluent in English. The service and contact was very, very good. We asked for some additional items for the trip and it was no problem and free of charge.
