Restaurant
The Bothy Braemar is a charming café located in a picturesque setting, making it a popular spot for hikers and bikers. The staff are friendly and attentive, providing excellent service even during busy times. The menu offers delicious options such as cheese toasties and soup of the day at reasonable prices. Additionally, the cooked breakfast is highly recommended, featuring high-quality meats and generous portions.
We popped in here at about 4:30pm on a Sunday and were delighted by the service and warm welcome we received. Even at that time of day, there were still a few people dining - the fact they close at 5:30pm every day feels rare for a cafe! They have a few dog friendly seating spots and we found a great table outside. We had three different slices of cake (all tasted fresh and were delicious!) and even when the person in front ordered the last of the lemon drizzle, the server very kindly sourced a lemon sponge shortcake (which was divine!) to make up for it. One of the kitchen members also popped outside with a bone biscuit for our dog which was a nice gesture. It's a lovely spot with lots of space in a beautiful location.

Great place!! Popped in for breakfast and the lady serving was super lovely and helpful. The breakfast was good value and tasty, as were the hot chocolates. Lots of variety of seating with nice views. Would definitely visit again.
Holly N — Google review
Came here as part of a day trip. Children had scrambled eggs on toast and ham and cheese sandwich. Adults both had bacon, brie and cranberry toasties (one had with soup of the day which was lentil). Food was lovely and clean plates all round. Staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty of seating throughout. Clean and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.
Vicki S — Google review
I had the vegan suitable full breakfast (small - but it was big) delish. Though could have been cooked a bit longer (hash brown soggy and pale. Sausage the same. ) well worth the money. The views insane. Staff really helpful and a clean, spacious cafe. Loo was clean. No immediate parking but tons within walking distance.
Joni P — Google review
What a lovely place! Great veggie options. We sat outside with our whippet and enjoyed a lovely meal in the Scottish sunshine. Relaxed and friendly service and the sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup was absolutely delicious. Oat milk lattes also great.

Excellent beautiful place with amazing view! Loved! The food average to good but much better in other places in the arean

Bar & grill
The Cairn Grill Restaurant & Bar is a top-notch dining spot located on the luxurious Mar estate. The restaurant offers a wonderful and relaxed atmosphere, with attentive professional staff providing superbly cooked food using top-quality ingredients. Guests have praised the faultless steak, venison, and fish dishes, as well as the accommodating nature of the staff in catering to dietary needs such as gluten-free, vegan, and allergies.
Fantastic food. Excellent for Gluten Free. Vegan and vegetarian options available also. Very helpful and nice staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait to go back
Elaine W — Google review
When I booked dinner last week it sounded as if they were so short of staff we might not get fed at all. However on the day we were welcomed, shown to a table and our order taken promptly. The food, wild venison arrived with a lovely bottle of red wine. An excellent meal.
J B — Google review
Good COVID setup, well spaced tables and ventilated. Food was good quality, had two courses, would recommend the burger, great value and taste although difficult to eat. Only slight issue was no whisky on the drinks menu, so when we ordered a single (and were served a double) it was unexpectedly expensive (£18).
Ben — Google review
A wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Superbly cooked food. The staff were friendly and good humoured. The steak, venison and fish were faultless. Many more exclusive and more expensive restaurants could learn alot from them. As a side note (but an important one) they were also brilliant with dietary needs including gluten free and allergies.
David S — Google review
Delicious meal, sizeable portions, local beers and nice gin selection. The staff was friendly and welcoming, even though it was busy they found a table for us.
Dominika — Google review
Cozy restaurant with good variety of local and international food. We had four different main courses and all were tasty and fresh.
Martti R — Google review
Good service, Food was good and well presented. Only issue the onion rings and french fries had similar taste, maybe oil change or cooked in different fryer
B R — Google review
Tempted out of our usual veggie inclinations by the great range of steaks and venison. Well worth it: absolutely delicious! And the profiteroles were outstanding! Excellent service, despite being short-staffed. You have to book though, as they're limiting numbers at the moment.

Restaurant
Gordon's Tearoom and Restaurant offers a warm reception to visitors after their outdoor adventures at Lairig Ghru. The coffee is superb, and even though the soup might have been frozen, it is still appreciated. The cheese scones are delicious, and the second cup of coffee matches the quality of the first. This establishment is now part of the Fife Arms empire and is definitely worth a visit while exploring Royal Deeside. Despite their busy day, the staff remains friendly and fantastic.
Such a lovely stuff for a light lunch and tea! I highly recommend trying this place out, we really enjoyed our tea and food! I had the ham and cheese sandwich and it was delicious, and the bacon roll was great as well. A great location with street parking, and there is a few cute shops to check out near here as well.
Marina F — Google review
Friendly service, plenty avaliable table when arrived. Food was good, the beans was slightly on a warm side instead of hot, but overall was a nice Scottish breakfast and very fresh scone and good haggis to.
Gyorgy V — Google review
Nice little cafe in the town, friendly staff and lots of yummy things to choose from.
Safeer N — Google review
Was most disappointed with this tea room I had visitors up staying and I recommend we go into here for something to eat. I had been in a few years ago and it was really nice. Not now. The staff were chatting in the kitchen, all the tables were needing cleared, when ordering the staff member didn't get the order correct and one item we asked for was finished ,so was the next item but 3rd time lucky. My apple crumble cake came out and couldn't even cut with a knife it was that hard, and guess what no more as it was finished so had to choose something else. The teas came out after we were served the food. But the toasty never appeared and we had to ask where it was no sorry was given. Staff back in kitchen speaking to each other and still tables not cleaned. Will not recommend or be back Shame as it used to be a lovely tea room.

This must be the best place for coffee and light meals in Braemar ! Everything in the restaurant is very pleasant and well presented and looks new. The manager is very friendly and gives a very friendly welcome when you arrive. There is a great variety of food on offer. We had Parsnip and Neep soup served with homemade bread and a Cheese and Tomato toastie along with some tea. We can’t wait to go back for more it was so good, thanks.
DOVETAIL — Google review
We stopped by as we explored Royal Deeside. The staff were fantastic and really friendly despite having such a busy day! The food was brilliant: especially the pork pie - I think I’ll be hard pressed to find another as tasty! Lovely wee place: we really enjoyed our little pit stop there!
Trudie — Google review
The food was very good (and of good quality). Both the chef and the waitress were lovely !

5The Clunie Dining Room

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
The Clunie Dining Room is an upscale restaurant located in a hotel, offering modern Scottish cuisine crafted by executive chef Tim Kensett. The menu showcases seasonal produce such as fresh seafood, highland beef, and game sourced from local suppliers. The restaurant's ambiance is enhanced by a dramatic mural created by artist Guillermo Kuitca, inspired by the nearby Clunie river and surrounding landscapes. Guests can also enjoy cocktails at the stylish Elsas Bar before or after dining.
Absolutely the perfect place to have afternoon tea and our anniversary dinner this year! Gorgeous surroundings, delicious and well-curated food selections, and the most outstanding service. We couldn’t help but feel a bit like royalty during our afternoon tea in the living room and during our anniversary dinner the next evening in the dining room. The staff is so welcoming and elevates the experience to world class levels. And can we talk about the wine list? Beyond excellent! We capped off our dinner meal with a few fabulous cocktails from Elsa’s and enjoyed them by the fire with the piano adding more beauty to the ambience. Memories were created that will keep us thankful and smiling until the next time we make it to Braemar and The Fife Arms. Thank you to all the staff at The Clunie and Elsa’s Bar
Darren M — Google review
Stepping from our room at The Fife Arms into the Clunie felt like swapping hallways for Highlands theatre: cubist-patterned walls, chandeliers that glow like embers, and a stag presiding over the open wood-fire grill. Our server, Cameron, suggested the fire-licked Invercauld venison loin—charred edges, rosy center, while Mom’s North Sea trout arrived, paired with sautéed greens. Smoke-forward yet precise: lobster claw over birch-ember leeks, and each plate shouts Scottish provenance without fuss. Michelin is right, the kitchen lets prime local produce and that blazing hearth do the talking. Staff balance warmth with razor-sharp timing; glasses refilled before you notice, menus walked through like a fireside story. The separate vegan/vegetarian list means everyone’s covered, and tables can be angled away from the taxidermy if that’s your preference. Mains run £40-£48, but when the last forkful disappears you grasp the premium: provenance, fire, and hospitality flowing seamlessly. After a day of Highland air and Swiss lager in the Flying Stag, this was the restorative supper I needed and the leisurely two-minute wobble back upstairs sure beats a cold taxi queue.

My boyfriend and I loved our meal here. The vibe was warm, chic but also not stuffy. We had spent all day hiking around the area and really wanted to treat ourselves. The sommelier was so approachable and her recommendation was spot on for us and our Beef Wellington! We enjoyed the food, presentation, the staff and the dessert. Overall a lovely evening!
Lynn F — Google review
We really enjoyed our honeymoon stay! The Inn is stunning and was perfect for our road trip through Scotland. The sauna right in the room was great for a day full of hiking. Dinner and Breakfast were incredible and the staff was incredibly friendly. The views!!! The Inn is kind of all on its own surrounded by nothing but beautiful scenery. The road is pretty close, but at night there are not many drivers on the road.
Ayla B — Google review
Went for afternoon tea with my wife and mother-in-law, we all thoroughly enjoyed the food, tea and service. The hotel itself has a great country ambience about it.

Wonderful food, service, ambiance
Matthew S — Google review
Overall the experience was great and exactly what we came for. The food was fantastic - we had the beef wellington. Unfortunately it was let down a bit by the service. Most of the staff were friendly and attentive however when I sent some wine back as it tasted off and had pieces of cork in it the Sommelier came out to challenge me which isn’t something I’ve ever had happen to me before. Overall it was great as a one-off experience.
Richard B — Google review
We had a fantastic meal at the Clunie Dining Room. We had a beautiful table for 6 overlooking the wood fires in the kitchen and the dining room setting is really excellent. We were really well looked after by the team throughout the evening from cocktails in the bar to service at dinner. The food was absolutely fantastic - so good we booked to come back to the Flying Stag as we were leaving the dinner! Thank you to everyone who looked after us so well throughout our two evenings at the restaurant and pub this week.

Nestled in the heart of Braemar, The Kings Larder is a hidden gem that exudes charm and warmth. As you descend the steps into this cozy pub, you're greeted by an inviting atmosphere filled with laughter and great music. Malcolm, the gracious owner, along with his friendly staff, ensures every guest feels right at home. The menu may be concise but offers delightful options like their renowned venison burgers paired with crispy thin chips—truly a must-try!
The best place to eat in all of Braemar. Lovely people and really cool vibe. A very Scottish feel without trying too hard. Give me five of those venison burgers, dear goodness they are good
John M — Google review
This vibrant pub is brimming with unique charm. The proprietor, Malcolm, is a true gentleman, and he, along with his staff, provided a warm welcome that immediately made us feel at home. The establishment offers an impressive selection of beers, perfectly complementing a sophisticated food menu. The lemon posset was a culinary delight, truly extraordinary. Our entire experience was amplified by the pub's lively atmosphere, filled with laughter, quality music, and undeniable camaraderie.
Seb C — Google review
Cosy atmosphere, very welcoming and accomodating. Family of 10 enjoyed this out of hour service. Exceptionally well done, going above and beyond.
Gayathri S — Google review
A real find in Braemar when Findlayson's was fully booked. You could walk past without noticing it, but down some steps you find a cosy restaurant with cool and quirky decor. Amazing ceiling! Menu not too extensive which is nice - decision-making easier. All three of us had the venison burgers (what else in Braemar?) - delicious, came with nice thin chips. There were veggie/vegan options too. Desserts a notch or two down in quality than the main, but overall an excellent dining experience with friendly welcoming staff. We'd certainly come back when we're next in the area.
Ros R — Google review
Such a fantastic place. Greeted by big smiles and excellent service from all staff upon arrival through to departure. Tabby offered incredible waiting service, Malcolm couldn't have been more hospitable and welcoming if he tried and Charlie plated up flawless food. What a treat of an experience, I can't wait to return! Thank you to all the team
John G — Google review
Myself and my family were here for dinner. We had pre-ordered as requested by the venue due to their being 13 of us. Despite this it took quite a long time for the food to arrive and there was quite a long gap between everyone’s food arriving. The service was not particularly attentive. There was work being carried out outside with a cherry picker that was beeping constantly, and we were sat right next to where this was. The kitchen is quite open and when walking to the toilets we could see the chef actually sitting on the worktops which is not particularly hygienic. The food was perfectly fine. Not a terrible visit but not great either. Judging by the reviews this was maybe just a bad night for them
Mike S — Google review
My family and I were blown away by the amazing accommodations made at Kings Larder last night. Such a wonderful staff and the very best food. Being that it was the night of my Fiancé and I’s engagement, I really can’t thank them enough for making us feel special. They went above and beyond in serving us.
