I rarely leave reviews but this place is truly amazing and full of character. I was worried that Calcata would be full of tourist traps, but here the food was incredible and the owner's passion for cooking was evident from every little detail of our experience. Highly recommend the porchetta with the seven herbs.... Easily the best I've ever had! He doesn't speak much english, but Google Translate is your friend. It's worth it.

We we're in earlier in the afternoon waiting to get into our accommodations next door and to have some wine. When we did not order food the owner was rude and was sure to remind us this was a restaurant. We assured him we would be back later for dinner but he was not understanding of this. When we did in fact return later for dinner he again was very rude reminding us that this was a restaurant. When we reminded him that we told him we would be back he said he speaks poor English and speaks better "macaroni"? Whatever that means? The place and owner looked dirty anyway in his dirty track pants so kinda glad we didn't stay but it was the only place in town to eat tonight. Thankfully our accommodation provided us with a bite to eat and some wine.

We ordered a range of dishes from starters to mains, but everything came at once and the food was not quite thrown at us, but not far off. Some people's meals arrived much later than others. Decent family restaurant just outside of the gates. We were there in low season and the place was packed, mainly with locals. The portions a big, but the wine is cheap. Three halls are interestingly decorated: first hall with movie stars like Alain Delon and Marcello Mastroianni; second hall with classic cars and the owners apparent mascotte Mussolini; the third hall dedicated to the almost mythical legends of Bus Spencer and Terence Hill. We had a lovely evening in this beautiful village in early July. Attentive lovely waiter and delicious wine.. (I believe owners have a vineyard) was tricky as I’m vegan so very little on menu but all the vegetarian food was great! I was a bit surprised that a green salad was just a bowl of undressed iceberg lettuce but I think I am not used to formal Italian dining and what to expect! We still had a brilliant time.. the desserts and wine were especially superb!

A wonderful lunch and friendly excellent service. We had lamb and Peperosa (calf). Both were rich, tender and abundant. Vegetables also perfectly prepared. Desserts were all homemade, light and exquisite. The position was lovely, in the centre of the village. Chef and waiting staff friendly and attentive. We will return!
