Friendly service. We got there early and were serviced quickly. Food was good. Nothing was not good, but nothing was outstanding. Will be back for sure. Keen to try a few other things to see if there is a gem of a dish. Quite fussy when it comes to food.

What a great find. Tucked away off the main road this place has a very welcoming vibe, and the food was very nice. We shared a few entrees taps style and loved it. The octopus balls were very very good and the seaweed salad! Spicy karage chicken and prawn horns also. Will go again if back in town.

This restaurant is all about the entrees! The food is exquisite. Basically it's like tapas , shared plates. You do not need to go past them. 4-5 entrées between 2 is plenty. It's a popular place so maybe book.

Wow, great service, great food, quite a small place so not too loud. More expensive than other places but worth it if you are looking to go to the next level with dining in Whanganui

May 2025 I had seafood basket, was quite nice. The fish pieces were the tastiest of everything. I struggled to get through the lot and ended up leaving most of the chips. Could have done with more tartare sauce, also I didn't get any tomato sauce that should have been with this meal. My wife had the pork belly meal, she said it was OK. She thought it was more like roast pork than twice cooked pork belly. Also the mash potatoes were lumpy. She says 6 out of 10. We both think we would dine here again if we were back this way.

This place was a fine stop for dinner. Steak was cooked well and the ribs were a great deal on rib night ($20 and you get an extra couple of ribs to the normal portion), served with a finger bowl too. They had ran out of several beers on tap which was a shame but still a few to choose between. I had a margarita which was nice - they had cocktails and some mocktails which is always nice to see! We were seated by the window which was nice, although meant we were right by the door which was less pleasant, thankfully they weren't too busy so it didn't ruin the evening

Honest review here! We eat out quite a lot, I ordered the serloin steak which was cooked really well, good amount of chips and some salad. My partner had fish which was cooked well and was nice and fresh. Nothing flash here but tasty. If I could put any constructive criticism, it would be the price, a little bit pricey and when it was time to pay I noticed a sneaky milkshake added to the bill, but that was sorted no problem.Thanks guys an enjoyable meal.

My husband’s steak was cooked perfectly, but unfortunately, my pork ribs were the worst I’ve ever had. I’m not a professional chef, but I do cook a lot at home, and honestly, my own ribs turn out much better. Before anyone asks, “Then why eat out?” because it was a date night. We wanted to enjoy a nice meal together. The ribs were incredibly tough, and the sauce tasted like it came straight from a Wattie’s BBQ bottle, veryyy very sweet. I’m not the type to complain at the table, so we forced ourselves to finish, but we both ended up feeling sick afterwards. I really hope this was just an off night and that they improve for future diners, but unfortunately, we won’t be rushing back any time soon.

Very poor customer service. We booked a table and turned up, but it seems the new staff member made an error with the booking — totally understandable, and we don’t blame her at all. However, the way the manager handled it was shocking. Instead of apologising, he was rude, dismissive, and basically asked us to leave. Imagine trying to explain that to an 8-year-old who was excited for a nice family meal. Terrible attitude and absolutely no customer service skills — definitely not the right person for that role.

First time a chef makea my meat medium, hot and tasty.

We had booked a table, but when we arrived, we were told the booking hadn’t been entered properly — apparently a new staff member took the call. That’s totally understandable; mistakes happen. What really disappointed us was the way it was handled. The manager (I assume) was extremely rude, offered no apology, and asked us to leave. We had our whole family with us and were looking forward to a nice meal, but instead we were made to feel unwelcome and basically kicked us out.

Decent restaurant, okay food for a good price. Portion size is perfect. The girls were very friendly, the guy seemed more to be rolling on autopilot. Music within the restaurant was a bit too loud and some of the chairs and tables definitely have had their best time.

I ordered a takeaway for Chickken Tikka & Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan. Food is fresh and feels homey. I ordered both mild for both cuisine but it lacks some more taste, maybe I should have ordered medium. Also I would commend for the generous servings. I just wished a little bit more taste. Service took like 42 mins (contrasted to what they said was 25mins max) to prepare the food for takeaway. But they compensated with a free drink which is appreciated. Thanks =). The atmosphere is fine and comfortable. Clean setup, clean environment and clean bathroom as well. I am not sure if the serving time is same for dine in, you must try it for yourself.

We had an amazing dinner with our friends. The food was super yummy and service was excellent and friendly. We were nine friends and all the orders were correct and freshly cooked. Boneless tikka chicken and prawn biryanis were awesome. Definitely my place when visiting Whanganui next time.

Bit disappointed with this recent dining experience. Luckily we realised when ordering the waiter missed one guests entire order. The main meal, side dish and beverage were not taken. One bowl of rice was served for two mains to share. A butter chicken and chicken korma usually has a rice each. We did bring this to staff attention and extra rice was offered. However not good had it been takeaways it would've been to late to rectify. Food was below average for above average prices.

Wanted last minute take aways on Friday night and were pleasantly surprised with the online order system. So easy and fast. Good size portions, very delicious, good amount of meat in the curry. Ready on time .

Bed is very comfortable. Pillows are not so good. Lie down and they deflate. May as well have nothing… Then the Shower…Woeful. I am surprised hot water came out. No elevator either. So if you are staying with elderly or disabled look elsewhere. ..On a bright note…great place to say. Close to everything..Food in the restaurant is fantastic. Staff are awesome. For me it is the little things.Get the little things right and the big things follow.

Have been many times. It's a great environment and the food is always beautiful. However some previous visits have left me as the only one left at the table without a meal, which I had to chase upl! In recent times this has improved and today we all received our meals at the same time. I have to say they do one of the best omelets in town.

What a charming hotel and beautiful luxury rooms. Loved the decor and ornate high ceilings. Nice restaurant downstairs with plenty of quality craftbeer options. The continental breakfast was delicious especially the homemade muesli. Great location right in the city centre by the river. Nice to be able to park the car safely in the hotel carpark.

Hello there I would like to tell you how much we enjoyed staying with you, but when we found out you were on the first floor with no lift, the same day I booked I had to regretfully cancel. I did ask if you could recommend anywhere else, but unfortunately, you were only able to reply with a standard computer form, acknowledging my cancellation. You can imagine my surprise when I received an email asking if we had enjoyed our stay with you, but as you offered a reply, here it is. May I suggest that you look more carefully at personal service for your guests. I am sure your hotel is quite special looking at the photos of your rooms, but please remember there are humans at the other end of the reservation requests. And as humans we really appreciate receiving good service, not from a computer, but from another human.

Our food was ready SO fast we were all shocked. Food was beautiful. We got the eggs bene and the fish and chips, both super fresh and delicious. Environment is really nice and we loved it.

I can not fault this place. Old English charm right down to the gorgeous toiletries. A great range of NZ wines and unreal food. A fireplace and the owner is amazing too.

Great ambience! The fish takcos and steak sandwich is lovely, love the presentation and variety of vegetables in the burger. The green curry could be a bit more spicy. Overall enjoy the food is good!!

Best place we found, small menu down really. Undercover outdoor seating, indoor seating. The staff where lovely if we are ever in the area we will be back.

Excellent lunch. For me the pork Belly Burger while Julie went with the toasted sandwich special of the day. The Lads Hazy IPA topped off my burger while Julie’s piccolo was top class

Dined out at Mud Ducks on a busy Thursday lunchtime. Arrived early and grabbed a good table before it filled up. Salmon Eggs-Bennedict was a sumptuous treat, packed with smoked salmon 😋 👌. I've got to say this was great value for money!

We had the BEST brunch (and best hot chocolate) we have had in NZ so far - in the 18 months we have lived here - at Mud Ducks this morning! Our food was unbelievably delicious, the service was fantastic and we can't wait to go back!

Service is always top notch, always served by a Maori Man everytime we go, he should open his own business and train others, he honestly is superb and his job. The food however, not sure what’s happened but the food really has gone down hill. Never have i before been served eggs bene on toast, especially not from this place. Price does not reflect the food. This was always our go to place for breakfast or lunch, not sure if we will be returning!!

Nice place to catch up for a coffee. Super friendly staff. Not sure of my choice of loaded fries. The satay sauce wasn't to my taste.

Lunch on a Saturday. We are returning customers as we enjoyed our first visit here and were keen to return. Unfortunately our second experience wasn’t as good as the first. Menu seemed to be reduced with limited options compared to previous. Overall we had: cream and jam scone - average; pineapple ham savoury muffin - average; lamb burger - good; loaded wedges good. From this we concluded cabinet food is so so and the menu is the go.

Had a scone 5.50$ and a coffee5$ . Acceptable. Will try other items next time. Although looking at the prices they are generic 30+$ for a breakfast with coffee

Convenient and simple spot for coffee and a bite to eat. Good variety of cabinet food. Love the Chai Coconut Banana smoothie! Slices were a little dry and could be served with cream or yogurt to improve service. Maybe I just needed to request it? Service and environment was otherwise ovely.

Every time I come here the meals and coffee are amazing. I can always count on a good experience here. There is gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. The yellow atmosphere is happy and very welcome. Thanks. Love the art on the walls too!

Lovely little cafe situated in an old house in a rather convenient place, providing plenty of parking. It looks well frequented by the locals, creating a homely atmosphere. The food was excellent, fresh and tasty. When I visit Whanganui next time, I'll be back.

If you're looking for best place in Whanganui for a coffee and snacks, you've just found it! We had amazing drinks and sweet and savoury treats. Service was super warm. 5 stars aren't enough 👌

The food here is amazing, I got a kumara orange salad which was very tasty, the stuffed chicken breast-delish and a well seasoned, well proportioned , very well made beef casserole! Their food is consistently good and the staff are always polite and friendly even when they are busy, which is regularly!

Taste: 3/5 Portions: large Price: $-$$ We bought the grazing platter as 2 people. The fish was tasty. Everything else was either bland or just not tasty. The kofta tasted like a weird sausage, the pork was drenched in a sickly sweet sauce, what we assumed was the plum sauce tasted like pure sugar and we couldn’t taste the plum the bread was soft and bland, and the sauce they’d drizzled on the bread (which we assumed was meant to be balsamic vinegar) was sweet but had no tang to it. On the whole, the platter lacked flavour and they tried to make up for it by adding more sugar, which didn’t work. Would not recommend.

Popped in for lunch on the way back to Wellington. Saturday afternoon, place was busy as. Staff very friendly on arrival and let us know the kaupapa on service. Was told a 45-60min wait due to how busy they were. We took a spot out in the garden bar over looking over the Wanganui River. Menu had plenty of options and pricing was really good. Food arrived within 30mins. I went for the fish burger & fries. Option of pan fried snapper was offered my staff. Best advice as the fish was amazing. Size of the meal (pictured) was very generous and so delicious. One of my friends was so happy with her chicken breast burger. Definitely worth a stop if heading to Wanganui. Also, dog friendly venue. Staff: Made us feel very welcome. Kai: Generous & very tasty. Venue: Great views from the garden bar.

Have been eating here for years. Usually it's 10/10 but the day we went it was lacking. Waited over an hour for our starters to come out, then had to wait longer coz they'd given our cheese platter to someone else. The food was good and I'll no doubt be eating here again

Food was very very good and it was busy on the night we were there with a few mountain biking friends. My lamb dish was very good and well priced at $33. The Eton mess and sticky date deserts were excellent as well.

Have been here multiple times. Burgers are always awesome. Was good to go with a group to see different dishes I may not otherwise order. Out at sea (something like that) fish with lots of different types of sea food looked incredible! $40 platter. Lots of fried goodness, I think there may have been a salad to help Chicken salad. This one looked really yum. Grliied chicken, bacon, mushrooms, on a bed of salad and those hard noodles? Looked good. I had the boat shed chicken burger. Huge and deliciousm always. Someone had a fish burger which was also huge and looked delicious. All in all very positive outing. Only real downside was the wait time, but honestly, when you're in a big group it's gonna take some time. Thought I'd better add something negative. Highly recommend

Been several times to Caroline's. Always a good vibe, plenty to choose from on the menu and always generous and hearty food. This time I had steak perfectly cooked to order (rare). She had the salmon, which was good but the potatoes accompanying were too much and a little under done with the lemon and caper sauce just a little flat. Overall though very enjoyable, definitely a good spot to visit.

I attended a milestone birthday there which was held on one side of the venue. The food was delicious and well presented. The staff were absolutely amazing and made sure that there was plenty of food and drink available. The music was great and added to the lively atmosphere. A lovely celebration in a great venue. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal and quality service.

We went for breakfast on Saturday morning early. There is indoor or outside dining space. My husband had a pancake. Great taste. I had pulled pork with a poached egg and holandiase.This combination went down really well.

This wasn’t our first visit & we will keep coming back here every time we come to Whanganui (oftentimes). Service is consistently amazing. The staffs are customer friendly and truly attentive. Bridgette did exactly just that with us. She patiently waited and attentively listened to our dietary restrictions. Thanks Bridgette! You are a superstar. Food was okay and we enjoyed it but not too exciting. I’m sure we had it better somewhere but the service is also a great reason to come back for.

Very good whole of experience. Large table and staff were very good. I enjoyed my loaded fries with pork bites. Others enjoyed their burgers. Prices reasonable. I would go again.

Excellent service, great coffee and food. Easy parking and plenty of space. Has a secure playground, so great if you have younger children.

I recently visited Kristy's Cafe and was a bit disappointed with my experience. The food was average and the prices were quite expensive for what you got. I had the kids hamburger with fries, which was okay but definitely could have been better for the price. Overall, I would give Kristy's Cafe a 3.5 out of 5 stars. While the atmosphere and service were nice, the food and prices didn't quite live up to my expectations. It's not a bad place to eat, but there are likely better options in the area for the same price or less. That being said, the cafe has some redeeming qualities such as friendly staff, so it's worth considering if you're in the area and looking for a quick bite to eat.

August 2022. I must say after Christy’s sold her restaurant the quality hasn’t dropped. The new owners maintained the tradition of delicious pastries and the venison pie is no longer on the menu, but my new favorite is Mince with Mushrooms. Best venison pie in New Zealand. Christy is up for sale that’s a little bit sad. We were lucky to get this legendary pie

Nice place to take children, great concept. I was a little disappointed with the breakfast though overall it lacked in taste. Asked for over easy eggs and it didn't quite meet expectations even after we sent them back for a touch up they came back as shown. 3 stars overall as it is a nice place and deserves another try but 2 stars for the meal on the day.

Great pies!! Very nice pastry and filling. Coffee was excellent- hot and good flavour! Kids enjoyed. Perfect highway side stop- cozy ambience and nice outdoor seating.

What a Gem! Beautiful setting for a Friday arvo drink. We were not planning to stay for more than 1 drink and going to head up the road. Shared the Korean chicken as a snack, had to have an icy cold beer! Seriously lovely food, falafel also devine. We couldn't tear ourselves away. Espresso Martini was the best ever! I love the thought, love and care that Belinda, very friendly owner, has dreamt up and delivered! Well done. We will be back for more next time we are down this way. It a great place.

I pop in regularly: solo and with friends and the menu is just getting better and better. They have a $25 pasta + wine special on Tue/Wed/Thu right now and the Wednesday pumpkin gnocchi is to die for. You can’t beat the flavour and value. There’s nothing else like it in town and having recently moved to town it’s a godsend. I’ve hear new winter menu is coming so will be back again soon!

Lovely environment! I got the pulled lamb, it is definitely a much smaller meal. Doesn’t come with any sides which is fine, it just wasn’t a huge amount of food (I’m still kinda hungry) My partner got the beef cheeks and I was majorly jealous as his was a huge portion and absolutely delicious hahah. Dessert was fantastic, 10/10. I got Devines Plum Cheesecake and I wish I had another right now. I forgot to take a pic of the food but I wish I had of the beef cheek cos it was so good hehe. Also my lemon lime & bitter was fantastic. Actually hard to find a decent one.

Ate here a week ago and was completely blown away. Great service. Cool Brooklyn vibe. Interesting and delicious choices on the menu (I had a vegan gluten free salad and was totally satisfied, go figure... ). Desert was equally good.

Loved it, we are from out of town, no booking, very helpful, lovely food, loved the red wine. The manager was so helpful we will definitely head back here from wellington. We had koren chicken, lamb, garlic bread and market fish just delish.

Lovely old building with great space and perfect for groups. Staff very friendly and service was good. However, they need to up their game with the food. I can't vouch for the whole menu but my salad was very below par. I'm sure they can do better.

Not gonna lie, best steak I have had in a hot while. Expectations were exceeded. Staff were wonderful, food was faultless. I had scotch fillet [medium] cooked to perfection. Opted for veges so cheese cauli, cabbage, peas carrots, a roast potato and a scoop if mashed potato, added an egg.... perfection. Not sure what this building used to be but it reeked of Whanganui history. Had to post before and after photos lol. Well done Brick House ... Five Stars

Had a Roast Beef meal on the 7th Sep Meat a bit tough not sliced nicely. Not much gravy for such a good size meal. Service very good were very busy. Loved the sticky date pudding. Meal served a bit cold. But maybe because they were so busy. Probably won't be back.

Great casual place for dinning. Staff were friendly and inviting. Ordered from counter and food was delivered to our table. Wait was minimal and good spacing between courses. Food was well presented with a home cooked feel. Fantastic flavors and well proportioned. Very well priced.

Excellent servicethe young apologised for a mistake that was not hers. Made a booking for 5 adults 2 children. While booking a table we ordered ahead as well. Definitely a wise decision. Everything was delicious. The flounder was huge so shared. Portions great. I loved my desert Doris plumb pie. Perfect amount of sweet and sour.

Got to hand it to The Brick house they never disappoint. Many occasions we have come here to enjoy good quality homely style meals and it's always worth it. From there $10 breakfast menu which is of course plentiful, to the lunch menu and then dinner. All very affordable prices in my opinion whether you wanting to do a function or enjoy a date night with a loved one. Grab a bite to eat with a friend or colleague they got ya covered there at the brickhouse. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is lively even when it's a busy time of the day. Gorgeous style to the place and there's plenty of places to sit and enjoy your meals. Child friendly I celebrated my 30th here 3 years ago and had my niece and nephews and they let them play and enjoy themselves as well. There's the option of making a meal a half size because they are very big portions which is great, an entire kids menu as well.

Went for a birthday dinner with friends, the younger staff were awesome ,went out of their way,to keep us all happy,food pretty good, could do with a bit more selection, otherwise good food that was served.

Awesome food! Had tried the Suicide bomber chicken! As an Indian can confirm this was spicy! Great taste and good portion size absolute value for money! Service time took slightly longer as they were jam packed on a Saturday evening and the atmosphere and the music wasn’t apt for the environment but overall decent food experience would definitely recommend this place if you’re craving for something spicy!

This place was a nice surprise. Is it authentic Mexican food, no, but it still has a Mexican vibe in some of the food flavor profiles. As someone who has visited and eaten in Mexican A LOT, I never have super high hopes for NZ Mexican to be authentic, mostly due to product availability. That being said, the esquites were really good and had a nice flavor when you added the sour cream to it; very reminiscent of elote. The guacamole was ok, but needed needed a bit of lime to really brighten it, that being said I would order it again. The cauliflower taco was very plain, as in the crispy cauliflower lacked flavor and was overpowered by the spicy crema that was slathered on, and my least favorite. The mushroom fajitas were a huge surprise and really delicious. The coconut flavor described on the menu threw me off, but I couldn't really taste it in the dish, plus it's so NICE to finally see fajitas on an NZ Mexican restaurant menu! The rice needed some more flavor, salt, acid, and cilantro. The black beans were nice, but again a tad bland. I had to ask for the black beans as a side. I wish they included the beans with the fajitas as a side, which is more traditional. I also had to ask for a side of their tomato pico, but that is not tomato pico. What is served is all chopped onion and a tiny bit of tomato, no garlic, not slat, no lime, no cilantro; calling this onion pico would probably be more on point. The margarita traditional is good and not too sweet, which is what I prefer. The decor is fabulous and reminded me of American Mexican restaurants. The service was very slow and not very attentive with staff standing behind the bar/register just hanging out. I had to get up and ask for our plates to be cleared after 20 mins. Overall I would recommend this place and I would go back again.

Went down the Ave wanting to try something different from the usual meal and always wanted to try this place out. Looking at the menu I wasn't sure what to order,the friendly staff gave honest suggestions and we went with it. The taste of the food is very good. Naughty lb was good .

We went over the Easter weekend so the staff told us the kitchen was 15-20 behind, which sounded ok for us. But reality was way different... They took around 10-15 minutes only to take the order (the first time). After 25 minutes I asked another waitress how much longer where they to at least the entry - a simple guacamole and chips... She came back saying that our order was mixed up with someone else's and she took it again. The same waitress came back 5 -10 minutes after, for taking the order for a 3rd time. We finally waited 1 hour since we sat down to get our entry.... No apologies or explanations whatsoever. Food was ok, but honestly nothing special or great. The salad was very small and the chicken fajita's only good thing was the chicken all the sides were average, as you might see in the photos. In my personal everything we tried was overpriced, just not worth the price or the wait. Unfortunately I would not recommend it.

Recommended. We shared four soft-shelled tacos (cauliflower, fish, lamb and coffee beef) between two and were comfortably full. Our wait staff were attentive without being overwhelming and looked after us well. We tried the drink special - lychee margherita 🍹 - out of this world! Will visit again.

I like the fish and chips at George's. Its a local institution. Chicken salt can be asked for to be sprinkled on the food. Fish fillet is a decent size and chips are crispy.

George's know how to cook fish to my liking. Under Done. Smells and tastes like the Ocean. No salt if I'm traveling, pile on the sea salt at home or plenty of salt if eating on the run. Professional workers, friendly service

I’m not normally one to post a review but this time I had to. We ordered Georges last night and it was the worst fish I have EVER come across. Tasted & smelt so strong I felt like I was at a trawlers. Couldn’t eat more than a bite. Had to wash my hands straight away as the smell was all over them. My fish burger was ruined as the fish inside was the same. Chips were soggy & potato fritters undercooked. Won’t be having Georges again. If I could give no stars, I would.

Great atmosphere and marvellous hot and cold food, with wonderful staff. This is a cafe not a restaurant yet if it were to introduce table service it would make an awesome restaurant with a great menu. Although I never went out there, they also have an outdoor dining patio at the rear. We took friends there for lunch and we were all very, very impressed... great value. (Noticed a dog inside therefore must be dog friendly)

Quite big inside, a little echoey. Outside area was ideal for us, as quieter. Food/coffee was lovely. I had a corn fritter stack. Very nice. Plenty of options- cabinet and menu. Unfortunately by 12.30 not many slices etc left.

Friendly staff, a cabinet of tasty food and blackboard menu of classics with a twist welcomed us. We don’t usually stop in Wanganui. We’re glad we did. The coffee is good (according to the one who knows). There’s a calm little outdoor space. And of course the food is good. Gluten free and vegan options included. Always a plus.

The food, service and atmosphere if this restaurant was just amazing! The people working there are very nice and friendly. They take their time to talk to you and make you feel good. I was very interested in where the staff there was coming from and was able to get a lot of interesting knowledge of Indian culture. Besides that, most importantly: The food was just amazing. One of the best Indian restaurants I visited so far. We drove all the way from Palmy just to give Tasty Indian in Whanganui a try — and honestly, it was worth every kilometre. The paneer was soft and perfectly cooked, the curry was rich and full of flavour, and the chicken tikka with chutney was absolutely delicious. Even the fried veggies and naan were spot on. Didn’t expect it to be this good, but I was genuinely impressed. We’ll definitely be back.

Haven't had such good Indian food in years. Every dish was delicious, their garlic Naan was the best I ever had.

Watery, flavourless and the worst Indian I’ve ever had. Very expensive too - $55 for two butter chicken, rice, plain naan and a cheese naan that was also awful. Very disappointing.

This was a great little find in Whanganui! Food was delicious. Perfect amount of spice for all the different dishes we ordered. Really fast and friendly service. Totally recommend! We will definitely visit again next time we are in town.

Ordered two entrees, veg samosa, and two naans as take-away and HOLY CRAP best Indian food I’ve had in ages! Bread was hot and delicious, entrees were flavorful, meat was juicy. 10/10 and will become a regular place for me and can’t wait to try it all! Cheers!

Very nice cafe, first time here. My dad and I got a bacon and egg thing which was very nice, very filling also. Egg was runny which was great. The Nutella brownie was amazing probably the best brownie I've had. Soft, just like melts in your mouth. I also had half a cheese scone and that was really nice also. Very good service, good vibes. Will be back

I love business succeeding- but value for money within reason and a professional look is vital to me and places I recommend in Whanganui .Golden rule in the food industry -How clean and the presentation on the out side, revels the pride/cleanliness taken in the kitchen. Prices are the top end in this location but sadly is starting to look run down- attempted tables been haphazardly half painted yellow with yellow paint drop over the concrete in the process shows a lack of pride in their premises.This makes a difference to me and in recommending to friends visiting or social gatherings. I wish the new owners well, but a more refined approach to how their premises are presented goes a long way with the clientel that can afford to go there. Food is still presented well but a professional premises are just as important.

Food is really nice, coffee is a bit small but still good, the prices are a little expensive but overall it’s a nice place. They also don’t make you wait long. It’s usually pretty busy when I come here which means something 🙂

Granted it was very busy when we came so expected a bit of a wait for food. Was a little disappointed by the fact they served one of us who had cabinet food almost immediately then we had a huge wait for the cooked food so didn't get to eat at the same time. Also when she bought the food out she just slammed it down on the table rudely. Disappointing experience, however it's obviously a popular destination based on the amount of customers.

Arrived at the busiest time (just after midday). Queued to place our orders, and advised a wait of approximately 30 minutes. When the food arrived it was wonderful: Fried Haloumi with salad, Fried Haloumi with Cajun Potatoes and Spinach, followed by Raspberry and Almond cake with yogurt. (See pictures)

Very good food and surprisingly quick service given how busy it was. Came in at 1130 on a Saturday (the busiest time of the week) and it was lucky to find a table. Quite a few tables were reserved for events.

Food and coffee were average. I had a tulip flat white and had to pay xtra for a double shot. Lots of noise coming out of the kitchen. Staff obviously having a good time but I found it intrusive and distracting.

We shared both the rainbow chicken dish and the beef hot plate. Both were really tasty and perfectly cooked. There was plenty of rice as each dish came with a generous serve.

Enjoyed a great meal on Sunday evening. The entrées were absolutely delicious. The Hot Thai Chicken Pad Thai was also amazing. Great delicious Mango Lassi and Desserts too! Traditional Thai music would have been an improvement. Also needed an additional waitress. But we will definitely be going back for another lovely meal like the one we had.

What really made it extra special was the owner’s kindness in opening up just for us so we could enjoy lunch. Such warm hospitality and delicious food – highly recommend!

Lovely meal here last night. We shared the best spring rolls I’ve had for ages, stir fried basil with chicken and the chiili paste chicken. Lots of lovely fresh vegetables and spicy as requested. Great service as well.

We visited the beautiful Thai Villa restaurant as a family of six and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. We chose the banquet meal, and every dish was absolutely delicious and fresh. The flavours were spot on, and the service was just as impressive. Definitely a 10 out of 5 – highly recommend!

Unfortunately we had to vacate our table as there was a 7pm booking. Our reservation was for 5.30pm. It would have been better if the other party has been booked for 7.30 as that would have given us two hours for the meal and we wouldn't have felt unimportant and rushed. We drove from Bulls which is 40 km away for a 70th birthday dinner and admittedly we're 10 minutes late but an hour and a half just wasn't enough time even if we were bang on time. The food was excellent and the staff friendly. Just a shame we were not given enough time to enjoy the meal.

Updating review time. 😌 This would have to be one of the best, if not the best locations in Whanganui for a street-side cafe. Honestly, you're sitting in Heritage Heartland... The coffee could have been a little hotter, but everything was quite pleasant.

Nice decor, and friendly staff. But the food was below average and over priced compared to other amazing cafes. Two of us had a pie each from the cabinet was very dissapointed - hardly much filling inside. My son's burger was dissapointing too and so expensive. The bathroom/toilet was filthy. The toilet bowl was black. My Mother-in-law also mentioned how discusting it was.

Couldn’t serve alcohol because manager was away, food was actually cold (not even luke warm). The nachos had about 50g of mince amongst the sour cream and chips, a rip off for 27 bucks! Coffee was burnt, steak was chewy and service was poor. Won’t be coming back.

Nice café at the city centre. Everything ticks the list especially the ambience. Can be more clean(not food or tables). The dust on the light fittings, decors or wall fittings.

We've visited this cafe before earlier in the year and it was run by a diverse, super friendly bunch of people. The food amazing. This visit the food, service and friendliness surpassed our previous experience. We sat outside and enjoyed the early afternoon sun, the lunch crowd must have gone as it was nice and quiet, with the incoming foot traffic being stable and many people leaving with smiles. We enjoyed the Hash Stack and the Eggs Bene, both were superb! Eggs for the Bene were perfect served with tangy hollandaise sauce, and the HS was en pointe accompanied by a creamy mushroom side. Tea for two with a round of freshly baked shortbread, hit the spot as well. The carrot cake, was full of flavour, with plump sultanas and delicious cream-cheese icing. We'll return to sample the dinner menu soon. The only photos I remembered to take was of the tea set (the food was all gone by then!) and carrot cake.

It's clearly one of the best restaurant we ate in the north island. The scallops we tasty. The butter bread with cheese - great but you'd want to give the extra cheese - too fat. the lamb and the steak were AWESOME but the quantity was quite small for 41- or 43 NZ$ price. The creme brûlée was grate and so the coffee. Many thanks to Grica who served us nicely

We were in Wanganui for the weekend and had already dined where we were staying so for our second night we ventured across the road to a restaurant the locals didn't know too much about because it had only recently opened. Well let me tell the locals this - they should dine at High-Kut Bistro as soon as possible. Because the food is that good. Unfortunately our and many others romantic night was ruined by a table of trailer park trash celebrating a birthday party at the same time. I know they were trailer park trash because everytime a male from the group, either young or old, went the toilet, they had to tell everyone about it when they came back. And thats after all the belching and food throwing. I can only wish they weren't local and don't go to High-Kut Bistro often. Thanks team for a great meal, can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Especially the toasted almonds bit.

Most Ludicrous price in this while entire country for a small snap squeeze tomato sauce to enjoy with my daughter's savoury potato top pie. $1.50!!!!! Can you believe? Never in my life have I ever come across it, ever. The owners of this cafeteria should seriously rethink about this. Wouldn't you prefer to know that your patrons were enjoying their powers properly with tomato sauce rather with none. For I witnessed every single person eating pieces in here today, all without sauce. As they weren't mad enough to spend that rediculous price on such a thing.

So extremely disappointed. Paid $27.50 for the bacon pancakes to find the pancakes similar to the ones I buy in the supermarket, not fresh, dry and all perfectly shaped and thickness all round… these were not made fresh, I ordered and it came out 9 minutes later. As for the banana, I had to remove the skin off it myself. The bacon was enough for half of the pancakes. The only decent thing on this plate was the maple syrup and the garden they threw on top to make it look pretty. 27.50 for this is extremely unacceptable

We visit this cafe every time we come to Whanganui. Everything is always very good. Today we were very disappointed in the scones. We always get a cheese scone with our coffee. Today both the cheese scone and date scone were well below the usual standard. They just crumbled everywhere. Definitely a different recipe or baker. Sorry. Please go back to your old recipe/baker. 😢🙏

Stop by here to grab breakfast - we got the king and the Franz Kafka. Both were delicious, but I’m a sucker for eggs for breakfast so the king was definitely my favorite 😍 coffee was delicious. The vibe of this café is super cozy and nice. I would recommend eating in. the staff are really friendly and overall we had a great experience. We were just passing through visiting the town, but if I were a local, I would be there every day!

If you're looking for perfect coffee and a charming atmosphere with vintage decor, tucked away from the bustle of town - this café nails it. The ambience alone makes it worth a visit for coffee enthusiasts. However, despite "Bagel" being in their name and their menu focusing exclusively on bagels, my experience with the food was disappointing. I ordered their Shakespeare (bacon, lettuce, tomato) which lacked sufficient sauce, featured overcooked bacon, and came on a mediocre bagel. The combination resulted in an unfortunately dry breakfast that didn't match the quality of their excellent coffee. Given their specialisation in bagels, better quality control for their signature food items would elevate this café from a great coffee spot to an all-around excellent breakfast or brunch experience. Still worth visiting for the coffee and atmosphere, but temper your expectations for the bagels.

I’m a traveller from the UK. I was passing through town on the way to Wellington. I stopped and had a coffee & king bagel. Both were amazing! Proper coffee and the bagel was delicious. Reasonable prices too!

The best little bagel shop in New Zealand (probably the world). This friendly and welcoming team craft some of the most delicious gourmet bagels you can imagine, as well as simpler ones with cream cheese or spreads. My favourites are the Great Gatsby (add a hash brown!) and the Stuart Little. The coffee is good and there are a variety of other beverage options for the non coffee drinkers too. The cafe is beautifully renovated with a homey feel, and as well as the many indoor tables it has a range of good outdoor seating options (and a couple of blankets for the cold days). Dog-friendly, kid-friendly! Hands down the best breakfast or lunch spot in Whanganui.

An almost authentic Texan- Mexican restaurant with a kiwi touch. The foods we ordered are quite tasty though the guacamole can do a bit of salt. The service can be better. The music is louder than normal.

Gracias Tex-Mex is located on the Whanganui River waterfront in the down town area. The location, food and service is very good. The Burritos and Fifita was huge as were the plate of chips which need more cooking. Overall a good experience and value for money.

The warm ambience of the restaurant upon entering is comforting, open and welcoming. Seating space generously roomy, can move around with ease, for plus size people that is awesome!! All staff accommodating and kind. The host greeted our table with a cheerful charming manner and the gorgeous waitress serves with genuine care and friendliness. Now for the food - WOW! Generous portions at amazing prices. We shared the Jalapeno Bites which are crispy, oozing with smooth flavoured Jalapeno melting cheese, served with freshly sliced Jalapeno that added extra heat absolutely exquisite!! For my main I chose the 'Loaded Quesadillas with Beef Brisket served with lightly toasted tortillas and four sides of dipping or filling sauces! Beef mildly spicy and melted in mouth, coupled with the crunch of the tortilla oozing with a blend of sauces, it was a roll my eyes back experience!! Desert - one single serve of a massive waffle, berries, sauce, ice cream and cream served 3 adults! The only criticism is, wasn't enough sauce lol. To be honest we didn't need dessert honestly we were all so full and more than pleasantly satisfied we were determined to complete the three course experience! I'm disappointed that I didn't take photos!!! There will be a next time. This restaurant is outstanding on all fronts!! Thank you Graham (host)

Brought a large group of 9 kids for dinner. We all loved the food. I had the beef/steak fajita and the loaded fries. The plate sizes are very generous we had so much food we couldn't eat it all. I definately recommend the churro bites for dessert. Great value for money and really friendly staff. Will be back.

Very bad rude service. There are terrible food safety problems. Food looks disgusting and taste terrible. Do not recommend at all. Evicting a customer before closing time, customer just starting to eat a bowl of hot noodle soup. He said he was going to close the restaurant but he didn't, and he didn't say he was going to close soon when we ordered, otherwise we will not eating here. Forcing customers to stand outside and eat hot noodle soup. I found two bugs in the bowl under pieces of vegs shortly. And then we asked the owner what's going on here. He started making some ridiculous excuses, and he even asked why we were eating out of his restaurant（He quibbled that bugs flew into the bowl because we were eating outside. That's impossible, because we found bugs under vegs). Why?! Because you kicked us out.

Brought honey chicken noodles today ,instead got given not only wrong order but my son also got a healthy dose of food poisoning. As we live out of town we only noticed when we stopped at rest area to have the meal that it wasnt one he ordered. He consumed his meal and said it didnt taste like chicken but instead tasted like fish . Glad I never had any but sad for him as he has been vomiting all night . Eat here at your own peril will be last time we ever go to that store.... yuck

Delicious Teriyaki Chicken Noodles. Hot,fresh,tasty and reccomend. Good value for money but do wish they had size options as the bowl is a massive serving enough for 2-3 people.

Absolutely beautiful full of delicious flavour noodles with super fresh everything from the veges and meat that goes in of your choice it was cool that we could order a specific selection and choose different noodles to go with it rather then the ones it says Not all noodles canteens actually do this, this was the first time I've asked and they happily switch. when you ask for extra added wether veges or meat they Definitely add extra (for an extra cost of corse) , friendly staff who are amazing cooks as well. You Definitely get your money's worth, portions and taste wise. Also its nice and clean to sit in and eat its a 5/5 from us.

Yummy kai, friendly team and the best coffee in Whanganui. There’s also the opportunity to browse the cool clothing, locally made jewellery and crafts and buy some coffee beans to take home.

I love this establishment. It’s one of our favourite date spots. We also inevitably end up striking some kind of conversation with a friendly local or getting the opportunity to pat a sweet pupper. Jack’s taste is impeccable. The food selection isn’t really what this place is about but it’s all delicious and theres usually a little something for everyone, no matter your dietary needs/prefs. It’s full of lots of other treasure too - retro wonders, funky clothes, locally crafted jewellery and art. Oh, and let’s not forget the epic teaspoon collection! Whanganui is so lucky to have a spot like this. Long may it reign!

Fun night at Whanganui's first Gay Pride event

Cool place for the slightly older crowd, live music most weekends and a nice relaxed vibe. I always have a good time when I go to Lucky Bar. There is a nice outdoor section to, which is great in the summer and gives a nice space to get away from the live music if it's not your thing. They mostly do bar snacking food, and it was fine, nothing amazing but adequate. A good night out and recommend giving the place a try!

Very impressed by this place, we gathered here in a rather large group after a funeral (with around 8 kiddies in tow.) The staff were welcoming and attentive not only to the adults but to the little guests too. What was intended to be a drink and debrief after the ceremony became dinner and a really wonderful evening. When it came time to order meals there was a range of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available so everybody was catered for. I believe they make everything on the menu in house too? Guys, it shows. The food was delicious. I'm a Whanganui expat living overseas now and I can't tell you what a delight it was to come home and find such a beautiful little addition to the city, go Lucky Bar. Top notch hospitality. Only bummed we had to head off before the live music!

A comfortable place to be for our large group of friends gathering after a funeral. Food was delicious and we appreciated the large area we were able to use despite dinner guests arriving. The late evening transformation into a music venue showed our out of town guests that Whanganui is a town of many surprises.

I went there to listen to a couple of bands playing. I had some questions before I went and was rang back very promptly. On arrival I was made to feel very welcome and I had a meal there, steak and salad, and was very impressed it. Will definitely go back and Will recommend Lucky Bar & Kitchen to my friends.

Went there to watch rapper STZ perform alongside and with Taking care of Business we were treated to over 4 hours of music and raps absolutely fantastic. Mathew and Georgia the hosts provided excellent service and nothing was too much trouble and the food is delicious I totally recommend the Lucky Bar and Kitchen

Great little place to catch up with friends - concerts are a little lacking, they kind of need a stage or raised area so that you can see the performers (it would make it feel like a concert rather than having a band in your living room)

A little disappointed with our waffles. They were quite doughy. I got a banana split and it was lucky to have had 10 small slices of banana on it. There was also only one girl working amd a long queue of people. The girl was apologetic and very friendly. The sorbet was delicious. Will definitely try again when we go to Whanganui. Maybe it was just an off night.

Frosty first timers tonight, brought my sons friend from Perth in with us. Cute shop, cool vibe lots of flavors and so cool to see some old school candy favs! But what did it for me, the girl who served us said thankyou and it was genuine. Happy to support small buisness!

Lovely ice cream! Not too sweet, which is great. Good selection of dairy and dairy free options. Waffles and other menu items available. Friendly service. The service area has been set up with lots of character and the side room also, but if full you are left to sit in the main area which at night is extremely bright, too bright. Subtle changes to the lighting would take this lovely spot to the next level. Wouldn't even need new lights, just something to diffuse the brightness. All in all, recommend trying this sweet spot

The best Espresso Martini I've ever had, period, hands down, not up for debate. Super friendly service, amazing atmosphere, and all for a great price. Come here, you can't go wrong.

The espresso martinis are boom chicka wow wow. Get in and have a hoon. Constantly changing and evolving menu so there is always something new to try.

I have been eating in Thai Express and now I got to experience their delivery through DeliverEasy. I ordered Crispy Pork and Fried Rice. From the app. the menu says 21. Crispy BBQ pork but I made sure to enter in instructions that I only want Crispy Pork and not BBQ pork, they read it and pay attention to all my notes. The Fried Rice was good texture, still warm and good amount. I rate it as 4 since it could use more soy sauce. The Crispy Pork amount is just enough, crispiness is good but not the best maybe because it had been covered for long. I'll try it again dining in. Taste needs some more salt hence the rating is 4. The takeaway presentation is well kept. This is far the most reliable asian fastfood in Whanganui.

Ordered meal with no mushroom plse as I have an allergic reaction. Got meal n full of guess what, mushrooms! Sent the meal back politely. The kitchen then sent the same meal back n had tried to take mushrooms out.....but missed some. Asked for refund n won't go back. We use to go there often on n off.....not any more!! Be careful people!!

A large room with tables and chairs doesn't add much to the ambience, but it does great value, authentic Thai food very quickly. You choose from a large menu which shows photos of what you can expect, then pay and sit down and your food arrives very soon afterwards.

Great franchise, has always the same food quality, it’s always very delicious. I had the spicy noodles and the spicy fried rice. If you’re vegetarian, you can choose tofu, that’s also suoer tasty.

After being loyal customers of Thai House Express Whanganui, we have been more and more disappointed over the last year with food standards and quantity. Meals have got smaller. More sauce with some meat and few vegetables. But tonight was a new low, photos show the chicken satay meal as it came.

Best Thai restaurant in Wanganui! Hot and spicy dishes you can request. Many dishes to try, both main and side dishes. Every staff in the restaurant is super friendly. They serve us with a beautiful smile and professionalism. I'm impressed with both food and service. Definitely be back again!

I visited on a recommendation and I was not disappointed. The salads were lovely and fresh. I had a small dish of both choices,, namely a Thai salad and an asparagus and egg. I also had a lovely slice of carrot cake which was moist and delicious. The shop stocks different brands of tea and deli products. There is also a small outside court yard where you can sit and eat/drink. I would go again.

The 3 berries smoothie was so good. Got a cabinet croissant both times I've eaten here and was always pleased with what I got. Staff is always very kind.

This is a delicatessen which offers up away from the the Main Street bustle a delightful coffee bar where you can enjoy your surroundings whilst sipping a very tasty flat white. I usually pick a single item from the cabinet and can certainly say everything I have tasted to date is very good. These have ranged from muffins, scones, brioches, almond croissants to the likes of almond and orange cake. The staff without exception are friendly and polite and give excellent service. This is a great plus in Covid times. Ambrosia is at the highest level in the Whanganui coffee scene and deserves full houses.

We grabbed a quick bite here in town. Nice sandwich and pastry selection with lots of beverage options. Indoor and outdoor cafe seating. Gifts and food items for purchase. A pleasant place for a stop.

Warm on a cold winter's day. Warm greeting at the door. Excellent coffee and hot chocolate, warm savoury scones with real butter, a great selection in the cabinet including a KETO bacon and egg pie and a menu to choose from also. Excellent quality service.

I ordered take-away: a wrap, two salads, and app of the cheesy bread. I was impressed at the place inside while waiting the last few minutes for my order. Looks really sleek. Food at home was amazing, fresh, delicious! Will eat there again, and maybe inside this time! Cheers

Takeaway chicken sandwich, with garlic yoghurt. Absolutely delicious! I was afraid I might still be hungry after just the sandwich but nope, very filling. Easily recommend, AND they have Baklava! 🤤

Was here on the evening of Wednesday 7th June 2023. After standing looking at the menu board for a while, I was going to sit in and eat, but decided I really couldn't be bothered listening to 3 of the girls talking loudly and laughing loudly enough that I knew I didn't want to stay. I was served by another young small built girl who was trying to learn the job but I believe struggled with taking my order because of the distraction from the noise of the other 3 girls. Anyway I ordered as a 'takeaway', paid and left. I couldn't help but wonder why the smaller Turkish place two doors along had 4 or people in it yet Anatolia had no one but myself. 🤔 The food I got was the lamb and chips and the bread and dips. It wasn't bad however the lamb obviously seemed a bit old or reheated or something. Value for money - it was ok I guess but not something I would go back for. Photos attached. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

Fair enough taste, tried multiple dishes and most were average tasting nothing too special. Tables were not clean, only 1 staff member was working so looked like she was over worked Gozlemes are terrible unfortunatly. The kebabs were ok, chips was good and large portion. Self order machines are a great idea. Would not goto again in the future

I can Highly recommend this place. The Authenticity of the food takes you to Turkey.. with amazing Kebabs to Gourmet Sandwiches that fill your mouth with an explosive Turkish sensation. The price is perfect for the amazing quality of food, definitely worth every penny. The restaurant is in a great location with a peaceful atmosphere, though the noise can be a bit loud and the wait can be a little.. it's worth it. The staff are great and very friendly with really good Hygiene standards. I will be back here again for sure

The Pukekos Nest Café is really nice. The service is definitely friendly. After a short time of waiting we get our food fast. The burger was big and hot. The ingredients were fresh and tasty also the combination. The service offered also boxes for foot which we would like to take away afterwards.

Great little Cafe, first time dropped in and had a good coffee break. Nicely set up, good parking and there are a number of places nearby for visitors, botanic gardens, natural reserves and poultry farm.

Always enjoy my time here whenever I come for lunch. Staff are friendly and the food tastes great! Great serving sizes for great prices.

I have eaten here before and remember a delicious soup they use to have on the menu, hot and sour soup, I requested this and the chef prepared two 🙏😍 the soup was delicious! The chicken dosa was incredible and the lamb ishtoo 🤤🤤 spicy and delicious. Love this restaurant!! Consistantly amazing highly recommended!! Treat yourself if you haven't eaten here before.

The sizzling coriander fish was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend it! For those who hate coriander I reckon this dish will be just as good without it :)

Tonight I have had the best Indian I have ever eaten. All of the dishes were absolutely delicious, with beautiful flavors, cooked to perfection. I can't wait to dine in next time and there will definitely be a next time. Thank you Kungfu Yoga

Dinner there on a quiet Wednesday night. Better than normal run of the mill Indian food - this was great with lovely flavours. They also understood and listened when I said VERY low chili - it was so I really enjoyed it. Friendly staff and would definitely go back there again.

This place does very, very good curries. It's not your usual "butter chicken" BS western curry it's proper Indian curry and it's delicious. Just remember that it takes time to make decent curry, so be prepared to wait for a bit if you don't order ahead. If you ask for hot its decently hot, I'd say Kiwi hot, medium is about as it should be and I don't know about mild cause what would be the point? Decent vegetarian options on offer which is nice. Recommended checking this place out, you won't regret it.

If you want excellent South India food Kungfuyoga does the business. Me second visit a d again impressed with the quality and quantity of the food representing very good value. The Masala dosa was sublime. Highly recommended if you are in Whanganui. Pleasant surroundings. Good service and a good selection of beer and wine. I will be going again next time I'm back in town.

Wow what a breath of fresh air this little restaurant is. My favorite dishes were the heavenly drumsticks and the sizzling fish. But their curries are also so tasty with complex flavours and so different to North indian curry. I really love Kerala cuisine! Now on my list of fave eating places in Whanganui. Highly recommend a visit!

Not sure what’s happened but Frank has significantly gone downhill 😢 Waited an hour for mains, even though there was only 2 other tables occupied tonight (Friday night). Steak so overcooked husband had to send it back, seafood tortellini was cold and tasted like it was out of a can. $43-$45 for each dish. Really disappointing as it’s been over a year since we’ve been to Frank, which used to be the most amazing restaurant in Whanganui, with the best food / menu / atmosphere ever! Love to support local, but sorry, no stars from us 🙁

My mother, daughter and I, had come down from Auckland to stay in Waverley during the holidays and had a look over places to eat in Whanganui. We decided on Franks! I'm so glad we did because (besides the yummy food and great ambiance) we had the most amazing server. Cassidy was funny, she was kind and went above and beyond. I really enjoyed the Playlist playing and she unplugged the phone to show me how to follow on Spotify. Cassidy helped us pick the perfect wine by giving us some testers. She helped us pick our dinner options when we were stuck on 2 choices. She was just 10/10. Made a lasting impact. Even though we are all the way from Auckland, we will be back. Great atmosphere in this place, the staff are friendly. The food is constantly good here as are the cocktails. This Wellington or Auckland CBD type venue, very nice fit out and bar. Well worth a visit. if you are in party mood, later at night it is also a night club, so , you might be there a while.

Best meal we've had in Whanganui since moving here 7 years ago. I had the fish and the flavors were fresh and delicious. Hubby's pasta was tasty and filling. 100x better than the usual pub bistro meals you normally get at other eaterys. Nice vibe with a great crowd there.

We ordered the pork roast. Kids done free. Also had the cob loaf it was delicious. Food was hot when served.

Excellent place to visit, day or night. Friendly staff and a great variety of things to do for the family. A first class restaurant is on site which caters for the most discerning tastes. A good variety of entertainment is put on each Friday and Saturday nights so you can dance the night away to your hearts content. There's pool/Snooker for the enthusiastic bunch if you want to have a bit of a challenge or simply go in for the atmosphere.

Had my Mother-in-laws 80th birthday here. A very good meal of a generous serving size. Service was generally good except the bar lady who a number of people had a rude experience with her. We would go back again as everyone had a great time.

A terrible experience. I ordered the 'Deluxe Chicken Hot Plate' which is described as marinated chicken with fresh salad and rice. I received CHICKEN NUGGETS fried with pineapple, celery and carrot. No marinated chicken, no salad. All for $26. This was after a long day of driving and a tangihanga (funeral). All we wanted was a simple meal after a long day. Due to the circumstances, we didn't have the energy to drive all the way back and complain. Really disappointing and a rip off.

Nice place to sit in and nice staff. Food is not traditional and a bad balance of flavour. Ordered a Pork Belly Banh Mi. Came out on a 12" baguette that was fresh, crunchy and looked great but it was full of mayo and sweet chilli, which drowned the flavour of the pork. Had one pit of parsley instead of coriander. Might suit others, but in the end for me a mayo soaked French roll doesn't cut it if you want a traditional Banh Mi.

We just enjoyed a delicious meal that included pho and sweet and sour chicken soup. I have to say, the sweet and sour chicken soup stood out with its rich, well-balanced flavor - it's the best version of dish I've ever had. The taste was unforgettable. The pho was also very tasty and carefully prepared. I truly hope this review reaches the restaurant's chef so they know how much their cooking is appreciated and how it leaves a lasting impression on customers like us. We'll definitely come back and recommend this place to our friends !!!

Went to Banh Mi Craft Restaurant tonighy, it is a great place to satisfy your cravings for pho ga. The broth is flavorful and the chicken is tender. The ambiance is cozy and the service is friendly. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. Overall, a solid choice for Vietnamese cuisine.

Had a really lovely meal with my husband. The food was delicious and portions were very generous. My husband really enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee. Loved the decor and the service was awesome. Will definitely be back!

If you like a traditional Banh Mi, don't come here. Mayo and sweet chilli sauce makes it inedible. Far to sweet. Plus was size and bread roll crispyness... but one bite and I walked away, and didn't eat it. Just call it a mayo roll.

Fabulous Vietnamese restaurant in Whanganui open for lunch. The food is fresh & tasty. The photo of the spring rolls actually came with 6 but they looked so delicious we were eating them before I remembered to take the photo.

The food here is very very good. I especially like the Iskenders, good value for money. To me this is the best Turkish restaurant in town, if you’re visiting here please try here first. Next doors kebab shop is ok but not as nice as this one. .

Amazing service and amazing food to share! The lovely bloke serving the food could not be a more beautiful soul. Atmosphere is (what the young kids call) peak and lit. I may not live locally but the beautiful man has made a new regular.

An excellent spot. Smooth hummus, crispy and flavoursome falafel, and delicious flat bread. The owner was friendly and helpful, and pointed us to great indoor and outdoor seating options to enjoy our meal. The turkish delight and baklava on the counter looked very tempting. Highly recommend!

I am going to say that it's quite difficult getting vegetarian options in NZ. Burger Cartel actually gave us two options so we had one of each(with fries). These were hands down the best burgers we have had in NZ if not ever. I am so glad we popped in as we were about to give up and have a cheese sandwich in the campervan

Excellent meal, we had garlic bread on an unusual bun, followed by Sicaro de Pollo, a deconstructed chicken burger, waffle fries, bacon and Excellent sauce. Delicious. If you want a fast burger on a cheap bun, go elsewhere. If you want hand made food and prepared to pay more, this is my recommendation. Oh, and the donuts are great too

We ordered the shared meal for 2 and every single dish was beautiful! The Entree felt like the popular tiktok craze eating off a hotplate & then the Main included 3 curries & every single one of them were 10/10. Especially the butter chicken & im not a spice fan however it was perfect. They even put our leftovers in their containers for us! 10/10 experience. Definitely visiting again, thankyou very much.

This used to be my favourite and only place I would enjoy butter chicken. Until, they changed owners. The old owners even handed over their butter chicken recipe. Then it was obviously changed. Now it is too spicy and there's nowhere else in town I enjoy a butter chicken anymore. Was so disappointed

Would of been a great meal, we ordered mild and got it way more spicy than what we expected. This is the second time it has happened, the first time we took it back but didnt this time. Hopefully next time we order (if we come back) mild actually means mild.

Ordered a butter chicken combo lastnight. Unfortunately after lastnights order, I won't be back. For the price, I expected more chicken. I counted 5 or 6 small pieces. I also ordered mild, this was too spicy. The sauce was also quite watery, rather than creamy. The Garlic naan was very tasty. And the rice was good.

Great food at prices that are hard to match. Very friendly and helpful staff and you can have a wine or beer with your meal or a coffee & muffin from the cafe. I have always found a park easily. You can go to the RSA main bar and hear bands play some nights or have a quiet drink with members.

Bit disappointed with the staff sniffing my glass of wine as she handed it to me. Food is responsible, roast was Luke warm, staff re-heated it.

Not a lot of sushi options in Whanganui, rice is a bit gluggy, pieces are very small and the salmon was oozing.

First off the time given for preparation was over estimated so the food was sitting on the counter waiting (not being kept warm) 🙁 We ordered lamb korma; the lamb was tough and rubbery and the korma was hot and light brown, Not creamy and mild. Onion bhaji was nice flavours however sadly it was cold and rubbery.

We were excited to try this takeaway, since that was the first Indian cuisine for my parents. Luckily, they loved it. They tried the mildly spicy Chicken Madras, which is a great choice if you want to introduce someone to Indian food. I ordered the Karahi lamb, which was tasty and had a great balance of spices. The takeaway restaurant has long opening hours, and the portions are decent.

Tried this place for the first time yesterday, the lunch special is good value for money. We had the beef vindaloo medium yesterday, was very good. Just now I finished my butter lamb (mild) and it was bloody delicious!!! 👌 Just like the name says, no lies there. It's soo creamy, stupid creamy, and the lamb is so soft. Highly recommend ☺️

I have been returning here the past 5 years for the Best butter chicken in town. I always refer friends and take my out of town visitors here, they have all been overly impressed saying it was the best Butter chicken they had tasted. Delicious every time. Love the garlic Naan, Homemade vegetable Samosa and Onion Bhjai are also extremely tasty. Excellent lunch deals at an affordable price.

Great assortment of very well made and delicious sushi. Whether you're a chicken, tuna, salmon or vegetarian sushi lover they're all here and glorious. You can choose to eat in or take away, and they do bento boxes too. The service is awesome, very friendly. All in all I recommend checking the place out if you like sushi.

Great sushi! Tried this place 2 times. Well made and the owner is very lovely. One huge draw back though!!!. Condiments make sushi great. There was no where near enough ginger and Wasabi. And the Wasabi is not hot. Smallest amount of condiments I've ever had from ordering sushi. Constructive criticism so hopefully this improves or they could offer customers the option of having more... much more and sourcing the Wasabi elsewhere :) The everything else was brilliant and 5 stars for everything else . 1 star for condiments.

I just bought a Fried rice and Wonton Soup for takeaway. I used to eat here and buy takeaways and had some good experience on the foods but right now, the food was not that great. For fried rice, rice texture is fine but it taste nothing. It could use some salt and better soy sauce seasoning. For Wonton Soup, it got a lot of wontons which is a positive thing but it does not taste like a wonton soup at all. It lacks the umami taste and the pork is less tasty as well. The service is fine and they are approachable. And it took only 10mins to serve as takeaway. The atmosphere is ok but could do some better presentation.

Unfortunately very disappointing. The staff were very friendly but the food was low quality, particularly the lemon sauce and sweet and sour both too sweet and weird consistencies/colour. Very few vegetables and the rice was also old. For $22 per dish we left feeling very unsatisfied and wish we hadn’t bothered.

Great food. Ordered combination fried rice, sweet and sour pork and chicken chow mein. It was all delicious and the people are so friendly. One of the best Chinese takeaways we've had.

The food is delightfully unexpected from this humble place. The service is calm and orderly. We got what we ordered, plus more. First night we had fish and chips. Last night we had Chinese. Delicious and hot with plenty of vegies.

The few reviews led us to expect above average food but Mothership fully exceeded our expectations. I had crispy salmon and an improved ice cream sundae, and finished off a friend's creme brule. The salmon with salad was tasty and perfectly cooked, though smaller than I desired. Of the rest, the Arancini Ball entree was the best. Overall, our dinner was a definite 9 out of 10. The food was excellent, the staff were helpful and friendly, and the ambience was comfortable. For the same price as a good feed at the Whangamomona Hotel we got a proper dining experience here.

What outstanding place. We were there on a Wednesday night it was quiet, but the service and the food was something to rave about. They have a great selection of craft beer, some of their own, and other craft breweries. It's a small but exciting menu, I had chicken, and it doesn't get any better than what I expected tonight. Keep up the great work team, and I will be back. Trust me

Angus Pure Eye Fillet, Salt and Pepper Squid and Mothership Ocean Platter 😋

Went there because my friends wanted to try the beer. We had dinner too - What a mistake that was. I ordered the mussels and they were off. I couldn't eat them cos they stank. My friends' meals were served cold and when they finally came back they were mediocre. My partner enjoyed the fillet but pretty overpriced with not many fries etc. Atmosphere was non-existent and the music was terrible. Nice service though and most staff were friendly and helpful. Apparently the beer was great.

I wasn't expecting much from a pub I just found around the corner from my motel but I was pleasantly surprised. Buffalo cauliflower was well cooked and perfectly seasoned with a crispy coat. A large serving for a starter. This was followed by the chicken and brie roulade with seasonal vegetables which was absolutely divine. Will definitely look at returning if I'm back in the area.

Unfortunately we were not impressed on this visit, Several beers were unavailable. The beer I then chose couldn’t be served because the pump line was frozen. Obviously they don’t know how to look after their craft beers. The beer I did order was OK, but nothing special. There were also items missing from the food menu. Absolutely no atmosphere.
