Mallard Cottage is a charming and rustic restaurant located in the quaint fishing hamlet of Quidi Vidi, St. Johns. Housed in one of the oldest wooden buildings in the area, this former residence for local fisherfolk and antiques shop has been transformed into an outstanding dining spot. The ever-changing menu features locally sourced seasonal dishes like molasses-glazed pork belly, chicken crepes, and halibut cheeks. The relaxed atmosphere is occasionally accompanied by live local music.
Absolutely stunning experience, start to finish. Brilliant atmosphere and location, but pales in comparison to the service and food, which were both out of this world. Our server was relatively new to the team, though you’d never know it! She was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly- made us feel like family all the way through. The food was delightful, and we even got to see a picture from earlier that day of the tuna that ended up as the catch of the day on my dad’s plate! Super accommodating of my sister’s vegan diet, despite being at the tail end of service for the day. All in all, would highly recommend and cannot WAIT to go back

Mallard Cottage is such a quaint and charming spot with a rotating daily menu that focuses on quality over quantity. I went with the pork chops while my wife had the fish (tilapia, I believe) — both were absolutely delicious! Some people might be thrown off by the smaller menu (like the table next to us), but don’t let that discourage you — there’s always a burger option if nothing else appeals that day. They’ve also got some great local beer options, thanks to being right near Quidi Vidi Brewery, and the service here was warm and friendly. If you’re looking for a cozy dining experience with fresh, rotating dishes, Mallard Cottage is well worth a stop!

Disappointing Evening We were really looking forward to the meal, but were disappointed. The restaurant is very lovingly and invitingly decorated. The open kitchen and the bar area fit well into the concept. When we visited, the restaurant was practically empty and the restaurant staff talked more to each other than to the guests. There was also no catch of the day and no mussels available. The presentation of the dishes was minimalist and we had to add more salt to all of the dishes because salt apparently isn't used in the kitchen. The batter on the cod tongues was soft and there was no truffle to taste or see in the truffle gnocchi. We ordered three short ribs. All three portions were different sizes. When I asked, I was told that that's just the way it is.

We had a great time and enjoyed our meal. Definitely not a place you should go and rush through. We had the Brussel sprout salad and it was amazing! My cod was very fresh and the drinks were delicious. Service was great! By the end of the night we had two servers and the chef at our table talking and giving us recommendations where to go on our trip. I think it is worth a stop while visiting St. John’s.
Krista S — Google review
We had a TRULY incredible experience at Mallard Cottage! I am vegan, and the chef was so accommodating - he made me an incredible appetizer with a parsnip puree that I will surely dream of. The waitress so was kind, the service was wonderful, and the ginger mocktail was delicious! My friend who is not vegan said the fish of the day dish was the best thing she has ever eaten. We will definitely be back.
Chantelle P — Google review
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in St. John’s! The service was warm and friendly, willing to give recommendations and attentive. The food was excellent and their drinks were strong and delicious. The restaurant atmosphere was beautiful, cozy and welcoming. Definitely will come back soon!
John F — Google review
This is constantly rated as one of the best restaurants in Newfoundland so I had to come try it out. Situated in a historic building inhabited by the Mallard family for over a century, the decor is very rustic and cozy. The service was very professional. We came in mid-May (during tourist off-season) and the place was packed, so I would recommend making reservations in advance. The dishes change daily based on what's in stock; I personally really liked their bread and their refreshing lobster salad. They also have a special menu that's prone to selling out quickly so I would recommend ordering from that menu first, before you order from the main menu. The flavours were decent and the price (and portions) feel in-between fine and casual dining.
Andy Z — Google review
So great! SARA, our server tended to our every need. Make a reservation in advance.. Busy time is 6:30 to 7 Great locally sourced fare, fresh fish ( COD THE DAY WE WERE THERE) oysters, with my team enjoying a warm beet salad and the chicken...with shared accompaniments of potatoes and Brussel sprouts Yum yum! Atmosphere, service, food... you need to go here!

Bar
The Merchant Tavern is a popular restaurant located in downtown St. Johns, offering a relaxed atmosphere and delicious local cuisine. The industrial space is adorned with wood and iron, creating a modern-meets-rustic style decor with vaulted ceilings and original artwork. The menu features seasonal meals made from locally sourced ingredients such as halibut caught off the coast of Newfoundland and wild mushrooms from nearby hiking trails.
Tonight was not my first visit to Merchant Tavern, and I have always enjoyed the food and service. This evening was another dining pleasure. We started with the bread and butter (a sundried tomato version), which was simply delicious. Next, the generously sized salad of arugula with sweetened whole cranberries, orange slivers, and pepitas in a light and creamy dressing. On to the NL cod entree. I can't say enough about the thin and seasoned crispy top crust covering a perfectly cooked cod filet - moist yet held together. It melted in the mouth. Served with a caper sauce, roasted mini potatoes, and crisp asparagus. Next, bigoli (thick pasta noodles) in a leek cream sauce with roasted mushrooms and parmesan. We finished with an exquisite and aptly named Celebration of Parsnip - a parsnip and brown butter cake topped with parsnip ice cream and crispy parsnip curls. The ice cream was more like butter. The flavours were subtle, and the varying textures created a unique dessert experience that elevated the lowly parsnip to rock-star status. If my cod photo appears to show a small serving, it's because it's just my portion of the shared plate. Interior - The seating areas are dim and romantic on the right side of the restaurant with standard-height tables. On the left side are the hightop tables and bright, tall windows. The centre square is a large bar with seating on three sides. Lots of options to suit your mood. Make sure you make a reservation. This is a busy, vibey spot showcasing both casual and business attire. Final note: Although we ordered from the menu, there was a chef's tasting menu.

Absolutely loved my dinner at The Merchant Tavern. The wonderful service, to the amazing food down to me ordering the the seared scallops on the night specials twice. The experience was exceptional. Thank you to the chef. Would definitely recommend :)

Spectacular! Excellent choice when booking reservations in NL. The food was unbelievable, service was prompt and friendly & I honestly wish I ate there more than once on my trip. It was soooo delicious!!!
Taylor S — Google review
The location and building are impressive. We did not make a reservation but they accommodated us at the bar for full service. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The food was exceptional. The swordfish sashimi was so delicate and balanced flavours expertly. The tuna carpaccio was also very good, although they can cut back a bit on the banana peppers so the tuna can shine through. Our mains were the NL Cod and the Shrimp Conchiglie. Both extraordinary! Highly recommend for a night out.

We are from Ottawa and came here for dinner tonight based on a recommendation, and immediately the place is stunning, the vibe is great. The staff is warm and energetic and all seem to be actively enjoying their nights. The food was also excellent. The only issue we faced was that our server, Chloe, seemed to be struggling. We waited a long time for her to come to the table. Things didn't get cleared, drinks didn't get refilled. She walked by and would say she'd be right back and not return. She also seemed to struggle with menu knowledge and described a few things incorrectly, but thankfully we aren't picky eaters. I'm not sure if it was just a tough night for her, or if she needs more training but the restaurant is blessed that the rest of the service staff stepped up and ensured we were taken care of. One of the bartenders came and cleared our dishes and took our dessert orders, other servers came with our bill and checked in offering us water and such. Honestly the rest of the night here was excellent, loved seeing the staff having fun dancing around, laughing and working hard. Just maybe an off night for Chloe, thankfully she has some great support that saved the experience for us.
Mell M — Google review
Experienced my first ever tasting menu Started the night with some sparkling and white 🍷 First course was an assortment of tuna crudo, scallop cheviche, NL snowcrabs and merasheen bay oysters. The crudo was a burst of umami. The sour and refreshing flavour of the cheviche wakes up your mouth perfectly before all other courses. Second course was a pan fried Newfoundland cod with a lemon-butter sauce. The brininess from the capers was wonderfully unique to my south asian palette. Most favorite dish of the night. Third course was a lobster spaghettini with lobster bisk. Al dente pasta, creamy bisk, sweet lobster. What more you can ask for! Fourth and the main course was a rendered duck breast with parsnip purée and butter roasted parsnip and mushrooms. Finished with a smoky jus. Fifth and the final course was a coffee cake topped with orange mascarpone on a base of caramel sauce. Perfectly sweet, balanced with the mascarpone whip. The Sauternes at the end felt like a course by itself

The Adelaide Oyster House is a vibrant seafood destination known for its diverse menu of small plates, including the popular Kobe beef lettuce wrap and fish tacos with breaded cod. This bustling eatery offers an extensive selection of local craft beers, wines, and signature cocktails like the Autumn Sangria and Oyster Stout Caesar.
By far the best oysters I’ve had any where in the world.. nothing compares to the oysters you can find here vs the US. Small bar vibe, friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Easy to become a regular here, especially on 1/2 marg Monday. I love everything on their menu.

A pleasant surprise & a treat to one’s palette. Variety of Asian fusion flavours bursting in the mouth, which makes it unique from the rest of the surrounding restaurants. Great quality & selection of Oysters & the spicy tuna sticky rice, kobe beef lettuce wrap & korean fried chicken is a must to try. The afternoon non alcoholic drinks are amazing as well to relax. A fabulous team of bar tenders, waitresses always smiling, interactive & engage well. Overall a pleasant experience twice in a row will bring us back for the third time in just 7days trip. If you are around Water Street, St. Johns you must swing by & try the mouth watering delights. Cheers to “The Adelaide Oyster House Team” keep up with your unique flavours & twists with huge smiles & laughter.

I’m from Toronto and LOVE East Coast oysters, and Adelaide Oyster House did not disappoint! My first visit was Sunday afternoon (Aug 3) while on vacation for my friend’s 50th. I ordered a dozen, which happened to be PEI Lucky Limes and they were incredibly fresh, plump, briny, and delicious. Loved the blueberry habanero sauce, lemon wedges, perfect mignonette, and especially the freshly shaved horseradish. I was impressed watching the shucker smell each oyster to ensure freshness, such a great touch! My second visit was Sat evening (Aug 23) when I returned to NL for a funeral. I brought my sister (she prefers smaller oysters; I love the plump ones). This time they were a mix of PEI, NB, and NL – tasty, though not quite as plump and missing the shaved horseradish from my first visit. I get oyster sizes vary, but I’d love more consistency with the condiments. That said, both visits were fantastic overall. Great vibes – chill on Sunday afternoon, lively and fun Saturday night. The kimchi oyster Caesar is a must-try! Service was excellent both times, even when it was packed. Thanks for two memorable visits – I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Food here is delicious. Went twice. Sat outside as weather was good. Our servers were super helpful and friendly. Lobster roll was delicious, and so were the Cod fish tacos. Made a nice Caesar too (Canadian Bloody Mary). RECOMMEND.

We decided to have breakfast here and it was a great decision. Our waiter was very polite and gave us some important advice. Аll the dishes were very tasty (they serve the best french fries in town). Merci.

Sampled oysters from four provinces and washed them down with an iceberg beer! Delicious! Atmosphere and staff were solid. Very friendly place!

The serving staff made a series of good choices not just for the food but also for the local beer. I couldn't understand why they kept on turning the lights down. Seriously guys, that's so old-fashioned. Anyone would think you are trying to save electricity on your energy-saving light bulbs.

Had my very first oyster today!! Which then lead to 18 more because it was SO GOOD! The atmosphere is awesome and so are the fine folks working here. Cannot wait to come back! I recommend their Kimchi Oyster Caesar and Shuckers Special 🥰✨

Cafe
Hungry Heart Cafe & Catering is a charming daytime venue that serves up a variety of seasonally inspired dishes, including sandwiches, salads, and pasta. The cafe not only offers delicious food but also provides culinary training opportunities to support individuals facing barriers to inclusion in the community. Their menu features enormous scones, Eggs Benedict with yogurt-based hollandaise, grilled beet salad with local goat cheese, and homemade pasta.
We came here for lunch after landing in St Johns. After sitting on a plane, this simple to the point meal was perfect. I didn't leave feeling heavy or hungry. I loved it even more after finding out that they do this as a social enterprise to help vulnerable adults and help get them into the food service industry. The service was really good and the food and atmosphere is perfect. There is a small outside area to eat but we just sat inside by the window. It's a lovely cafe to have lunch. We didn't need reservations or have to wait in line and came in 30 minutes before they were expected to close. We never felt rushed or like we were being waited for. I would say the cost is acceptable and for the cause, I would say that it is well worth paying for. Would definitely return to have lunch.
Deborah K — Google review
The ambiance of the place is good with giant windows. It's very bright and clean. The fresh little flower vase was a nice touch. The food is alright. Although it's unique, it's a little bit pricey. I liked the Mimosas here. Tried the soft shell moose tacos and breakfast on the bun with potatoes and salad. The dessert was delicious. The covid protocols are being practiced and the tables spread apart.
Nitish N — Google review
We came here for lunch and ordered the frittata with the side of the daily soup and fried cod cakes with the side of potato wedges. The food was lovely, filling, and not greasy at all. The fried cod cakes were absolutely delicious!
Elizabeth H — Google review
I'm gonna give an objective review since I'm not from NL and because I've only been there once. The cafe in itself is cute with a warm ambiance. First I was disappointed because I expected them to offer a variety of coffee like espresso but they only have regular filter coffee which isn't bad. Then, the service wasn't bad, but it was kinda strange.. From what I could grasp, I think employees there are being rehabilitated to society by being offered a job at this cafe by the church. Please, tell me if I'm wrong. I think it's great! More places should do this. But like I said it was kinda strange.. I think one of the server didn't like my boyfriend and he was giving him weird intense looks. I had to point it out. Then, the food was good. I had the applebutter grilled cheese. But the portion is too small for the price. I can't give a better rating because of these reasons. I'm still glad I tried it.
Alexandra — Google review
This teeny café is delightful. It’s not cramped, there is no uncomfortable banquette seating (thank the gods!) and it’s open and sunny in the morning. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was delicious (we both had the hearty breakfast with sausage) and we were tempted by dessert afterwards but couldn’t have fit it in! We will definitely return though.
Lisa-Marie S — Google review
Really fantastic cafe. Came here for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was delicious without feeling too heavy or over-seasoned, and there was a good mix of traditional fare as well as more contemporary/creative options. Ambience was cozy but not cramped and space was well-lit. Service was friendly and very quick.
Jonathan C — Google review
Short menu, short wine list and the very freshest ingredients at the Hungry Heart Cafe! Plus, the restaurant has a mission to train people who have barriers to employment. A feel good experience, all way 'round!

Terre Restaurant, located inside the ALT Hotel St. Johns, is a new dining establishment with an impressive culinary team. Chef Matthew Swift, formerly of Joe Beef and other renowned restaurants, leads the kitchen while Stelios Doussis, previously at establishments like The Merchant Tavern and Fogo Island Inn, serves as general manager. Terre has gained recognition for its delectable dishes and was even featured in enRoute Magazine's Canada's Best New Restaurants list this year.
We so enjoyed our visit with Terre. The staff were friendly, knew the menu well and bartender made a fine lemon drop martini. The food was creative and delicious. The razor clams were a treat! Smoked arctic char a must. The broccolini with shredded beef very tasty and strip bass all worth choosing. We shared it all so it was not too much food.

We came for dinner with a friend. The food was incredible, the drinks fantastic, and the service outstanding! Thank you Chase and head chef for the surprise dishes. Both the Tuna and Mussels were exceptional! And the cocktails….crafted to perfection. Thank you Delaney!
Tamara G — Google review
Wow, just wow! Terre completely exceeded my expectations — both the food and service were phenomenal. We went with the “let us cook for you” option, and every single dish was a masterpiece. This restaurant truly deserves a standing ovation.
Thu V — Google review
This isn't the starter series. This is advanced dining. We ate the chef's menu which came with perhaps 6 starters/salads, 2 mains, and a dessert. I couldn't tell you what it all included because each dish was complex with various vegetables, herbs, spices and many included a protein. Delicious. The foods are fresh, seasonal and crafted with care. The service was patient, helpful and pleasant. I'd highly recommend.
Paul M — Google review
Terre is an absolute must if you want an upscale dining experience. From the second you walk in, its interior decor is professional designed with fantastic attention to detail; the bar is beautiful. The service was excellent from the host’s greeting through till the end of the meal. The food was plated elegantly, and delicious. We savoured the snow crab, and the PEI oysters. My husband has been here many times, and says every dish is delightful. We also ordered cocktails which were also delicious. One was the mixologist’s take on a negroni, the other was a type of spicy margarita — both were savoured. Reserve in advance, because they are understandably in very high demand.

Jakob our server was warm, knowledgeable and efficient. His recommendations for wine, dessert and entree menu options were spot on. The ambiance of restaurant offers lovely view of harbours, contemporary and wonderful option for hotel guests.
Mar D — Google review
I've been to this beautiful place a few times, but I went back for my fiancé's birthday because it's one of his favorite restaurants. The drinks that day tasted like absolutely nothing; they were like water. I liked the food; I ordered the cōte de boeuf, which was okay, but way too small—almost the size of a regular $40 cut, and the price was quite different. The salad was sour, and the potatoes were way too salty. The service was very friendly, although they took a long time to take our order. I paid over $500; I would have expected a better experience, but maybe next time will be better. 😊

Highly recommend “let the kitchen cook for you” option. It was dish after dish of interesting flavors and with the freshest ingredients! The staff were also incredibly warm and friendly. Definitely an amazing experience!

Perched on a hilltop, The Rooms in St. Johns is a multifaceted cultural center housing the Provincial Museum, Archives, and Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador. This modern facility offers interactive programs and exhibits that showcase local art, natural history, and cultural heritage. Visitors can engage in various activities such as meeting Newfoundland dogs, sampling local cuisine, enjoying traditional music performances, and exploring the province's contribution to air travel development.
We visited The Rooms in St. John's, yesterday. It was Canada Day, and entry was free — we didn’t know that in advance, so it was a nice surprise! The place was beautiful and very interesting. It includes two art galleries and three museum sections. If you enjoy museums, this is definitely a place you'll love. To explore everything properly and take your time reading through the exhibits, expect to spend at least two hours or more. The washrooms were clean, and the gift shop was lovely, it had a great selection of local products at reasonable prices, which isn’t always the case in museum gift shops. Highly recommended for anyone visiting St. John's!

I visited a few weeks ago with my child and had a great time. The WWI exhibit for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was well put together and very informative. They had also many activities for children throughout. It was interesting to see all the Canada Games medals in the archives area. The view of the harbour was great too.

A true gem in the heart of St. John's, The Rooms is an absolute must-visit for locals and tourists alike. The experience begins before you even step inside; the building itself is a gorgeous piece of architecture that beautifully complements the city's skyline. One of the first things you'll appreciate is the fair and reasonable admission price. It’s great value for the quality and scale of the facility. They also have special times when students can get in for free, which is a fantastic initiative to make arts and culture accessible to everyone. Once inside, the art gallery and museum collections are simply stunning. Everything is so wonderfully put together and immaculately kept. You can feel the passion and care that goes into every exhibit. It's clear that whoever is in charge of the galleries has a great love for what they do, as the attention to detail is evident everywhere you look. It makes for a truly immersive and enjoyable experience as you explore Newfoundland and Labrador's rich history and vibrant arts scene. Beyond the exhibits, the amenities are top-notch. The gift shop is incredibly cute and boasts a wide selection of amazing Newfoundland merchandise, as well as items specific to The Rooms. And while it deserves its own separate review, I have to mention that the on-site cafe is amazing. Overall, The Rooms is a world-class facility that St. John's should be incredibly proud of. I can't recommend it enough.
Kenneth G — Google review
Fantastic museum, I really enjoy the art gallery of the Newfoundland local artist. Amazing pieces. And we learned about the history of indigenous people. It was so touching. And we found the interaction between the public the organizers is also very interesting. Ppl are creating their art pieces in The Rooms at night on Friday. Then there’s a wall full of their artwork.
Kay D — Google review
The Rooms turned out to be one of the must explore stops in St. John’s. I spent a couple of hours exploring and could’ve easily stayed longer. The exhibits on Newfoundland’s history, especially the personal artifacts from people before and during the world wars, really made me pause. The whale section was another highlight, something you don’t forget quickly, the carved whale skull alone is massive, stretching several feet across, and it really gives you a sense of just how enormous these creatures are. And of course, the view from upstairs is worth the visit on its own, looking out over the harbour and Signal Hill is just beautiful. If you like reading through every exhibit, plan for most of a day. Otherwise, a few hours is enough to get a real feel. Either way, it’s a place that leaves an impression.

Wealthy in history! Walking through the history of the First World War and learning about its profound impact on Newfoundland and Labrador wells deep emotions. The layout and storytelling style is nothing short of Spectacular! This is a must visit for lovers of history.

A great experience. Loved the way it was set up. Museum and art and archives. Lots of displays on history of the area and the indigenous people. Well done. Enjoyed the section on the War effort and how it affected the Area. Great displays of uniforms and many photos. There was a Manders O’Bryne who played music for almost the entire time we were there. He was wonderful. Added a lot to the experience since we could hear him all through the museum.
Alexandra M — Google review
Very well put together museum with a few floors to explore. There's even a bistro type restaurant on the top floor to eat or have food and drink. This is one place I wanted to visit on my trip and it certainly didn't disappoint. There was so much information about the island with so many exhibits and explanations to go with everything. It's an awesome place to visit if it's your first time visiting and want to spend an afternoon or the day somewhere by yourself or others. It was also surprisingly clean with how big it is. I don't think I even got to see everything but my favorite is seeing all the preserved artifacts of real life things they used to use over the years for transport etc.

Located at 325 Duckworth Street, The Duke of Duckworth is a vibrant and lively pub in St. Johns, Newfoundland. It has been an integral part of the city's social scene for over 25 years. The cozy interior features a small bar, dining area, and pool table. The pub offers classic bar bites and an extensive selection of draft beers. However, when it comes to the best Fish & Chips in St.
Friendliest loveliest people my husband wanted to come here because of television series Republic of Doyle we stopped in for a beer and an appetiser cod bites. It is more like a meal. It was huge portion. Great atmosphere, nice vibes. You can get your pint engraved with any picture you want. It was fun. I guess you need to have a good head of foam so we chose Guinness poured by an expert. Fish chowder with out shell fish! It was delicious. We plant to return here tomorrow! Came back 2 days later the fish and chips were perfect!!

Down the steps; nearly always a queue - BUT worth it. Great atmosphere and great servers. Have Premier league football matches on multiple screens. Had the Newfoundland special of Fish and chips with a side of gravy and dressing (which is how locals eat their fish+chips Chips). I was skeptical but it was really good. RECOMMEND

I tried the fish and chips at The Duke of Duckworth in St. John’s, and it was a treat. I had fresh cod: one perfectly golden-fried and the other gently baked. The fried piece practically melted in my mouth, that wide-eyed moment of pure delight. The tartar sauce, possibly house-made, was far better than the usual kind I’ve had. I also got a side salad, which was fresh and crisp. Overall, the meal was fantastic, and the whole place gives off a cozy english pub vibe that made the experience even better.

It was a Saturday evening so tables were in high demand. I didn't realise how small the place was. I shared a table. The staff brought over a place setting, but never came back for my order. So I went to the bar instead and was served by a lovely lady. The fish and chips were as advertised - very good. So was the local beer.
Perry T — Google review
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. It’s light yet flavourful - definitely worth the hype. Decent portion size as well. I got gravy on the side (not pictured) which was good but I don’t think necessary as the fish is good on its own, or with tartar sauce+vinegar which comes free. They also take AMEX. I’d come back and will be recommending to friends and family! 😋

Great place! Went I walked in, I felt I walked in a pub in Europe. I had the pan fried fish & chip and it was delicious! Fish was well seasoned, tasty and perfectly cooked. Fries were also perfect. I accompanied my meal with black horse beer. Noah explained to me it is only brewed in NL. I remember the brand name from when I was a child and have not seen that beer for a very long time…. Noah came back after he served me to make sure everything was good.

Down a narrow street, The Duke Of Duckworth is an iconic St. Johns bar that has been around for a while now. The first thing you will notice is the ambience. Basically, its your standard small bar with tapered history all along the walls. I decided to order their fish and chips with dressing and gravy. The fish was super moist, flakey, and fresh. While the batter was melt in your mouth, seasoned well, and had an airiness to it. The fries were also fresh and tasted even better with the gravy. I always cover my fish and chips with malt vinegar and tartar sauce for extra acidity to cut the extreme savouriness of the fried foods. Overall, everything was quite nice. The only downsides are the pricing. The fish and chips and quite expensive in comparison to a lot of other spots in the area. If you are a tourist, its a worthwhile visit for sure.

A local favourite, and for good reason! This cozy spot has a fun atmosphere, great staff, and absolutely delicious food and beer. We both went with the fish & chips, and you can choose fried or baked — we went fried. Our server recommended upgrading the fries to Newfoundland style (bread crumbs and gravy on top), and wow… well worth it! The fish was super fresh and flavorful. For drinks, we tried the famous Iceberg beer from Quidi Vidi Brewery, brewed with 15,000-year-old iceberg water. While the concept is really cool and unique to Newfoundland, the beer itself was honestly a bit mid in my opinion. I’d recommend trying other brews from Quidi Vidi instead. Overall, we had a great time here — fresh food, cozy vibes, and a true local staple. Can definitely see why both tourists and locals love it!

Raymonds Restaurant is a classy dining spot located in a 1915 building, offering refined meals made from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant is known for its creative menu crafted by head chef Jeremy Charles and sommelier Jeremy Bonia. Diners can enjoy dishes like roasted Quebec duck, roasted cod, and smoked pork shoulder while taking in the view across St. Johns harbour.
Absolutely fabulous! Like the new menu structure. The wine pairing was amazing. Update: menu has changed again. Always makes it fresh. If you're going to do the tasting menu, go all in and do the full 7 course. The 5 course tends to be a bit sparse. The 3 course now has much better variety then in the past. Recommend this with wine pairing as well.

Amazing. Pretty expensive. We had the 5 course tasting menu + wine pairing. Worth the price. Highlight of our trip. Special thanks to the sommelier she did an amazing job. Local and high quality food.

Excellent service as always! Seated immediately, has a beautiful window view. Offered drinks by waiter extremely fast. Explained the specialty items clearly. Was given bread to start which seemed very fresh. Meals came out fast on hot plates which helped keep the meal warm while eating. Delicious flavors. Plenty of food/bang for your buck. On the way out, got a thank you from the owner Jerry. Offered us discounts to come back in new year. Fantastic evening! 10/10

Had an amazing meal here! Came here because Anthony Bourdain dined here during his last trip to Canada. It is the nicest restaurant I’ve seen in St John’s. I did the 7 course menu because I wanted to try everything they had to offer. The portions were small, which I didn’t mind because I don’t eat a lot. The bread wasn’t very good. The razor clams were very fresh. The pasta dish was probably my favourite. It also came with 2 fish dishes, which I didn’t really enjoy as much as I enjoyed the duck. And the set dessert was a strawberry one, which I switched out for a chocolate one. So I’m glad they were able to accommodate me. The service was fabulous and what you’d expect at a fine dining setting. I highly recommend locals and tourists to dine here.

I don’t believe there’s anything quite like it other than in Montreal - perhaps! This is fine dining at its best in Canada. Attention is paid down to the last and finest detail. You won’t find better quality, taste and presentation anywhere. Their building is indicative of what you may expect. When the owner goes to such lengths to locate inside such such a beautiful building, you may imagine the enormous effort put into each plate by the chef. The staff is second to none. You will not be disappointed.
Angus M — Google review
This is a fantastic place to have a meal prepared by one of the greatest chefs in Canada, the famous Jeremy Charles. The menu is a tasting menu, so your selection is limited to one of three set menus... But there is plenty of flexibility within those menus, and as someone that doesn't enjoy seafood, there were enough options that I was able to enjoy every bite.
Bryan B — Google review
The service and food were spectacular, hence the reason this place is one of the top restaruants in Newfoundland. Yes the price might be a little high for some, but well worth it. Not a place to come to if you're looking for a burger or wings.

So Disappointed...... My wife and I spend 3-4 month a year traveling around checking out cool restaurants, breweries and wineries. We have visited some of the best in North America. When we heard about Raymond’s while searching the best restaurants in St. John’s I quickly made a reservation 9pm on a Wednesday. We arrived about 8:50 to a very welcoming happy host and were promptly seated in the corner of the great room. Water was brought to the table (we opted for tap water) and we started checking out the menu. Then it all falls apart. 25 minutes pass before our server returns, she jokes how we have had lots of time reviewing the menu, she takes our drink order and my wife kind of indicates we are ready to order noticing how slow the service is. The server says she will be back with the drinks then take the order another 10 minutes go by and she returns. 35 minutes in now to get a $14 cocktail. Again she jokes how long it takes her to serve us. We place our order for a cheese board and 3 course meal (recommended by a local). Nearly 15 minutes later it arrived (6 small pieces of cheese $35) it only took a few moments to eat since we have had nothing to this point and have been there 60 minutes. At this point we have had enough of the poor service (as were were not checked on between any of the previous visits by server, our water glasses sat empty for 15 a couple times) We get up and head to the front where we are met by the amazing server whom had been serving the table beside (4+ courses while we were there) she knew what the problem was without even hearing it and promptly get the manager. The manager is great! He convinces us to stay and be personally looked after by him. He covers our two cocktails and cheese board ($63) Quickly brings out a tasty well balanced raw scallop on lettuce. (5/5) Next we have a fried scallop with white turnip ribbon with beurre blanc sauce. This dish was very bland and tasteless, the scallop was well cooked. (2/5) Our main course was the duck it was delicious, initially thought it to be bland but it ended up well cooked. The duck came with roasted broccoli a little arugula and parsnip. The vegetables were not creative or well seasoned. (3/5) To finish I had the blueberry dessert it was like a yoghurt parfait with a delicious blueberry gelato. It was good but for the cost of the meal I would expect something more creative. (3/5) Service by the manager was just as you would expect, he was prompt, kept our water glasses full, folder our napkins when we got up. The level of service you would expect at this type of restaurant. Overall I think you might have to order the 5 or 8 course meals to have a creative food experience. The building is beautiful, some servers are great (the table beside us got to meet the chef) maybe because we were young (~35) and started with tap water we did not receive great service. Overall ended up being over $250 with the cheese board and 1st round of drinks covered. I am a business owner and feel the only way to make up for such a horrible start would be to cover the entire meal or at-least do something above and beyond. Save your money, go to Mallard Cottage!

Indian restaurant
India Gate Restaurant is a long-standing, family-owned establishment located at 286 Duckworth Street near the Supreme Court Building. It offers an extensive Indian menu and a seasonal lunch buffet, making it a popular choice for both seasoned curry connoisseurs and those new to Indian cuisine. Despite facing challenges such as a fire and temporary closure, India Gate has stood the test of time and continues to be a go-to destination for authentic Indian flavors in St. Johns.
This was my first visit to India gate . I liked the vibe here , soft music , spacious and dim lights dining and good customer service they provide . Servers are very polite and friendly and make sure you enjoy your food . In St. John’s so far this was the only place where you can get tasty Indian food . Quality and Quantity was pleasant. I would recommend this place for sure 💯
Manjinder K — Google review
In search of something different than pub food, we went to India Gate for vegetarian fare and were not disappointed. Mains don't come with rice, but a single order of rice plus plain naan was more than enough for our two dishes. Flavorful and a good amount of spice, plus friendly service made this a good dinner decision.
Amanda W — Google review
India Gate delivers a fantastic atmosphere — warm, stylish, and welcoming. The décor strikes a perfect balance between traditional Indian charm and modern comfort, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The food was rich in flavor with a solid variety of dishes, and the pricing was fair — offering good value without being overpriced. However, while the setting was excellent, the service left a bit to be desired. Staff were generally polite, but the overall attentiveness and responsiveness could use some improvement. One important point: tipping should never feel like an obligation. It should be a gesture of appreciation — given when the customer feels genuinely satisfied with the service. Moreover, the amount should be left entirely to the discretion of the customer, not presented as a fixed percentage. Good service earns a good tip, but it should be voluntary, not expected by default. In short, India Gate is definitely worth visiting for the food and ambiance. With some attention to service and a more respectful approach to tipping, it could easily become a top favorite.

One of our favorite restaurants in the city! The butter chicken is unbeatable and their willingness to always accommodate our lengthy list of allergies is always so appreciated! The service and food here is so amazing. Also appreciate that they don’t blare the music like so many places nowadays. Those with nut or gluten allergies, rejoice— you are welcomed here! They even accommodate a separate butter chicken without cashew!

Ordered a very simple thing to get some food for the road, samosas and spring rolls. Was told 5-10 minutes - waited for a half hour. Half the spring rolls were cold and soggy. The samosas are not like any samosa I’ve had with this strange overpowering seasoning salt that they coat the outside with. Sauce supplied wasn’t anything i have ever had at an Indian restaurant, strange mayo based dip, didn’t even use it more than once. Overall pretty rough, would not recommend, far from authentic Indian that’s for sure.

The tandoori chicken, laacha paratha, roti and butter chicken were very tasty. Best I have had in St John’s. Service and ambience is also great. I would go back again. I did not like dessert so much though. The saffron cake tasted like a normal tea cake and the gulab jamun was a bit rubbery. I’m okay with the 18% tip but don’t understand why it’s applied on the total bill including hst.

Chinched is a relaxed neighborhood bistro that offers an ever-changing menu of small plates featuring local ingredients and bold flavors. The restaurant, run by Chef Shaun Hussey, is known for its eclectic dishes such as charbroiled squid with Amatriciana, pok pok turkey wings, and pork rillette with crostini. In addition to their renowned charcuterie boards, Chinched also operates a deli serving up sandwiches like Mortadella and patty melts for lunch.
Excellent experience here. Our server went above and beyond to look after us and we had a great yarn in the process - really made a difference. Had the large charcuterie board which was excellent as always with great variety. Also tried one of the cocktails which was done very well. Atmosphere was quieter but great for a good yarn with your company. Will be back again to try some mains !

Reserved a spot at the bar as I was traveling solo. Danny and everyone else at Chinched made me feel welcome from the second I walked in! I had a custom mocktail, which started the experience off right. I’m pescatarian so I ignored the recommended charcuterie and pigs ears, but hear they are delicious. I settled on Lobster, poached and served cold with leche de Tigre sauce. Amazing! By far best lobster dish I’ve ever tasted. Also had the beets and pears, which was superbly prepared. I didn’t leave room for dessert, but had some anyway. Glad I did. Although the food was amazing, the overall experience of dining here was even better. Danny made me feel so welcome. He suggested other great restaurants and experiences in St John’s. Sadly it was my last evening there, so I’ll have to go back! I would highly recommend this place!

We walked past this restaurant so many times on our way downtown but never stopped in until it was recommended to us as one of the better restaurants in St. John’s. We are very glad we came! The ambiance upstairs is nice enough, but we eventually moved downstairs and ate at the bar which we enjoyed much better. The staff was very friendly, and the food and cocktails we had were fantastic. We started with a charcuterie board, which is one of their specialties (they also seemed to have a storefront that sold meats). We then had some curried fish cakes which were excellent and spent the rest of the evening sipping cocktails and nibbling on fried pig ears in buffalo sauce (don’t let the name scare you, these are FANTASTIC). Highly recommended and should be a priority for any trip to St. John’s
P M — Google review
We got a reservation here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised with the food and cozy atmosphere. The charcuterie board is a must get and they even have a small storefront inside which sells the meats and cheeses individually. I did find the cod too be on the saltier side, though.

Had a nice dinner experience at chinched! The staff was very friendly and welcoming and seem to enjoy what they do. The food was so so for me, got try the local oyster, the merasheen bay oysters with house hot sauce which were food, the cod dumplings were ok and the tuna putanesca ok, excellent risotto but unfortunately the tuna was quite salty.

Ouuuu baby was this restaurant good! We got the Lamb chop, cavatelli with mussels and cod dumplings, all of which were fantastic. The dumplings might have been the best $18 I’ve ever spent. The cheesecake for dinner was solid. Ambiance was great and the service was top notch. I’ll be back if I’m ever in the city.

Great food, friendly staff, nice ambiance. We had candied walnuts, the boards (combo), grilled charcuterie platter, herb roasted beets, and cheesecake as the final touch. All were excellent. The charcuterie for both the boards and the grilled platter were outstanding. The selections of cheese fit my taste buds very well. Just love the place. There were parking spots but unlikely to handle all the guests. Fortunately we went on a Saturday and street parking spots were not too hard to find. The front entrance has several steps. Wheelchair customers'd better check if there is another entrance.

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. I ate the pan fried cod and it was amazing. I’ve had an incredible amount of fish living in Newfoundland and this has been one of the best. Very flaky and just the right amount of salt. I would recommend this restaurant to ANYONE. Such a great variety of different plates, so there are options for everyone. Charcuterie board was also fantastic. The cheese was AMAZING. I believe that the one I enjoyed the most was the five brothers? (Don’t quote me on that! It definitely has the word five in it) Regardless, great cheese, great meat, great food. All around fantastic. Thanks for the great meal and service!

Additionally, the restaurant serves as the flagship store for the renowned tea blends of the company.
Delicious food! The scallop linguine was rich and creamy and the scallops were cooked perfectly! Took my mom out for a nice dinner and she is very picky but she loved the French onion soup. I had their specialty iced tea and it was delicious too as well as the baguette was soft and crunchy at the same time! I bought so many souvenirs for my family and friends back home too! Will definitely visit again!

Delicious and healthy food! This restaurant is beautiful and clean inside. They sell teas and crafts/art from local artisans. The menu is amazing (and apparently changes). We both had a salad starter. My husband had the pork belly and I had the butternut squash ravioli - both delicious! They also have a couple cocktails that are made with their teas; I had the Rum Runner and it was amazing. Fantastic service. We will be returning on our next trip to Newfoundland for sure!

Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere! Felt very welcome and warm the whole time with such a nice server, the steak sandwich was innovative and had great flavor if you like goat cheese and something a little different. The cheese balls were flavorful with a great tomato sauce and balance with cheese and risotto, the butternut squash soup was beautifully light and tasty and went so well with the bread with it. The chili was not crazy but it was a nice warm meal that satisfyed my girlfriend so it must have been pretty good. Lastly, the partridge berry flake made with crispy phyllo dough, whipped cream and an intensely tart but sweet partridge berry sauce was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had! It was so crispy and went together so well with the lightly sweet cream and sauce and the plating was very clean and well put together. Overall the Newfoundland tea Co. is one of the best restaurants in central with amazing food, atmosphere, and a friendly staff, the prices can get a bit high but it’s worth the cash for this experience. Plus the tea is really good:), 10/10 would go again.

Pizza restaurant
Piatto Pizzeria + Enoteca in St. Johns offers a traditional Italian Aperitivo experience, featuring classic drinks like Aperol Spritz and local draft beers paired with delectable bites such as fried gnocchi, corn fritters, and wood-fired vegetable spread. The restaurant is renowned for its authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas made with high-quality ingredients and baked to perfection.
It goes without saying that the Pizzeria serves delicious, authentic pizzas—but this post is really to appreciate the amazing staff. The servers are some of the kindest and most thoughtful I’ve encountered. I have a dietary restriction and completely forgot to mention it when ordering. When the food arrived and I realized my mistake, the server listened patiently and happily had it fixed for me without any fuss. Truly exceptional
Muhammad U — Google review
Piatto Pizza was once my go-to spot for a delicious, authentic Neapolitan pizza, but unfortunately, it has fallen from grace. What used to be a delightful, well-crafted pizza is now a sloppy, wet mess. Over the past year and a half, I’ve given this place multiple chances—five visits in total—hoping they would get back to their former quality, but each time it’s been a disappointment. The pizza crust, which used to be perfectly crispy, now turns soggy within minutes, leaving the toppings in an oily, unappetizing heap that slides right off. The quality of the ingredients seems to have dropped as well. The pies are no longer that delicate balance of fresh, flavorful, and satisfying—they're simply a mess on a plate. The service has also taken a hit. On a few occasions, I’ve had rude and disengaged servers who seemed indifferent to the experience they were providing. For a place charging premium prices, this is unacceptable. I won’t be returning. Blaze Pizza, which is half the price, offers a far superior experience both in terms of taste and value. Piatto, you really need to do better.

Came here for lunch with a friend when I was visiting St Johns! We chose this location as the parking is easier! Service was fantastic, and the food was incredible. My friend and I both had pizzas! I wish I dined at Piatto in the first day of my trip and not the last day. It is excellent. Great vibe as one would experience in a traditional Italian eatery. The lunch menu was great and offered a lot of options for every taste. The staff were very attentive and service was excellent! I ordered the gluten-friendly Margherita and was very happy. I noted that the server took care to cut the pizza with a new cutter to prevent cross contamination. Knowing this kind of attention to detail is practiced made my dining experienced relaxed and enjoyable. The tomato sauce is one of the best I've ever had. I strongly encourage people to try this restaurant or use it more frequently! Well done.

What an incredible experience at Piatto Pizza on Elizabeth Street! Even though the restaurant was packed and the staff were running around to keep up, the energy in the room felt exciting rather than overwhelming. You could really see how much pride the team takes in their work — friendly faces, professional service, and genuine care for their guests. We did wait a little longer than expected, but honestly, the service and atmosphere more than made up for it. Mary was absolutely amazing — attentive, kind, and made us feel so well taken care of. Leah greeted us with such a warm and welcoming smile that set the tone for the night. Brett went above and beyond as a waiter, paying attention to every little detail and making sure we had everything we needed. And we can’t forget Johnny! And also watching prakash stretch dough right in front of us was like a show! We left feeling full, happy, and very grateful for such a memorable evening. It’s not just about the food (which was delicious) — it’s about the people who make the experience so special. Thank you, Piatto team, for making our night one to remember. We’ll definitely be back!
Jerrica C — Google review
I worked for an Italian company for seventeen years and regularly traveled to Italy for meetings. Piatto is the ONLY pizza I have eaten outside of Italy that is a faithful representation of true Neopolitan Pizza. They got it right, even down to the wood they use in the Italian made wood-fired ovens that run at about 480°C/900°F. The pizza may cost a few $$ more, but the ingredients are the real deal...no shortcuts or cheap substitutes. Menu options beyond pizza are solid. Quick, friendly service for a working lunch. The only thing they could improve on is their selection of "affordable" Italian red wines. Italians almost never eat pizza without a local wine...it enhances the experience and is truly cultural (but obviously a decent glass of wine in Italy costs about the same as a glass of Coca-Cola).

We had a wonderful experience. They have new menu, and we tried half of the items. Everything came out quick and was delicious. Beer was not bad. I expected better beer choices and flavours. But we still all found something to enjoy. I would definitely come back and recommend that place, because overall it was great experience. Service was quick and friendly

This place has beer AND coffee. Repeat, good beer AND good coffee. Plus the breakfast wrap was 'wholesome' good, not like a 'so-greasy-feel-like-have-to-walk-it-off-after' type one. To top it off, the choc chip cookie was so soft and tasty that you knew it had been baked that day. High praise to the different spaces too - traditional cafe seating, with high tops and couches, every setting covered 👌

While I was visiting St. John’s I went to quite a few local craft brewery locations and taste some others in restaurants. Bannerman Brewing Co. is by far my favourite. You will see in my photos that they have a beer for every palette. I’m an East Coast IPA fan, my server brilliantly led me to the right choices. I was happy with both. I also had two delicious beef tacos. I’d say they were a cut above bar food and better than I’d had in the city until then. I’d like to add that based on wonderful aromas wafting from my neighbours table there are other delights to eat. It was a Monday evening so I was lucky to hear a set of acoustic and vocal music by a band with a lot of talent. I was blown away by them. The space itself is very warm and inviting and the service spot on. I was also happy to see that they are Rainbow friendly!

Great spot to unwind after exploring downtown St. John’s. Located at the end of the street, this cozy brewery offers a wide selection of local beers and light snacks — perfect for a casual break. While it’s not the best place for a full dinner, it’s definitely worth a visit for drinks and a relaxed atmosphere.

Great beer I had the back pocket vienna lager 6%. Service was lovely...larger open patio and huge space! Its accessible so people in mobile devices can enter and the washer is accessible!!

This was the first thing my fiancé and I did when we landed in St. John's. Amazing vibe and even more amazing drinks!! You can't go wrong with any of them. We loved this place so much that we came back later on in the night for more beer!

Great in-house beer brewing bar. Service is excellent as well as the atmosphere. Not that I’ve eaten here however, the food coming out looked good. A very busy place too for coffee, beer and food. Worth a visit if you’re in St John’s. Just adding to this as I’ve been back a few time this week, it’s a fantastic bar and my favourite in St John’s.

Good burger, fries were very much like leftover shoestring fries warmed up lukewarm in an air fryer. Not a fan of seasoned fries, but these were terrible. Not just me, my wife and the couple at the next table said the same. I'm sure some other things on their menu are great, as was the burger, but unfortunately no option to skip or substitute the fries. Even lots of ketchup struggled to make them palatable.

Toslow, a cozy cafe and bar located in downtown St. Johns, initially gained popularity for its unique natural wines and cocktails. After relocating to 108 Duckworth Street, the establishment expanded its menu to include an array of delectable pastries such as bagel danishes and raspberry hibiscus curd brioche. In addition to their morning offerings, Toslow also serves up great espresso drinks and breakfast sandwiches, with the Mac Combo being a popular choice.
Toslow is my go-to for a vegan breakfast and the hands-down best coffee I've had in St John's. The groovy vibe of local crowd hangout, Nanny's basement, and childhood summers at the cabin makes this place cool and inviting. The location on Duckworth Street, the harbour views from the upstairs picture window, and the gracious and engaging staff make this place, for me at least, a must-stop when in St. John's. And carnivores rest easy, the menu has you covered. We had the vegan Griddle sandwich made from scrambled tofu and vegan sausage and cheese, wholly caramelized in maple syrup. And the BLT on housemade focaccia. And, you guessed it, the BEST coffee! Five stars all around.

The espresso coffee was very sour and I couldn't finish it byonde the first sip. The place was not very clean, and the service was rather slow. They have a nice view, though, and a nice selection of vegan/ vegetarian food that I did not try.

Stopped in for a vanilla latte and a flat white, and ended up getting a full-on coffee education from the barista — who was equal parts skilled and entertaining. Honestly, I think I learned more about beans and milk textures in five minutes than I did in four years of school. We took our drinks upstairs, where the vibe is cozy, a little old-soul, and the kind of place you could easily “accidentally” spend an afternoon in. The coffee was excellent, the atmosphere even better — and if I could hire that barista as my personal coffee tutor, I’d never touch a drip machine again. Highly recommend for anyone who likes their caffeine with a side of character.

A cute coffee place with grandma style charm. We went with a matcha latte and iced chai latte, both were really good, also got a breakfast sandwich which was good.

Very sweet staff, great cappuccino and cortado’s. The cookies are fresh and gooey 🤤 . Bring your own mug and get a discount. Free wifi and sunny window seats. More tables available upstairs. They sell beans and merch and local wine!

Went this morning as it was near the hotel. The music and environment was perfect. Coffee was excellent. Dirty chai was actually made with tea and perfect espresso. Exceptional overall experience. I was originally just getting coffees to go but decided to stay and read a bit.

The “Three Chocolates” cake was absolutely delicious! Perfect balance of flavors, rich but not too sweet, and the texture was so smooth and creamy. Beautifully decorated too — you can really taste the love and skill that went into it. Everyone loved it!

Rocket Bakery & Fresh Food is a charming French-inspired bakery and cafe located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This locally owned establishment offers a delightful array of gourmet prepared foods for both dine-in and takeout. Known for its delicious homemade offerings, Rocket Bakery serves up everything from fresh-baked breads and pastries to hearty soups and sandwiches, all made with care.
A must-stop for a casual breakfast or lunch when in St. John's. Don't pass on trying the delicious fish cakes. While I prefer mustard pickles with mine, the tartar sauce was tasty. I also tried the schnecke - croissant pastry with coconut, honey, and lemon curd. Quite sweet and sticky, but great with a cup of coffee. There are so many delicious-looking baked goods, salads, and more at Rocket Bakery - Water Street. The cafe is eclectic Newfoundland, fun and friendly. Lots of seating on a weekday morning. Friendly staff, too. There's an all-day menu, a vegan lunch menu, and a gluten-free menu to help you choose. I go every time I'm in town. P.S. If you're watching the latest season of Reacher on Amazon Prime, you will recognize the filming location on Water Street. 😃

We had to wait for the truck to come in with the food we should’ve known better does that means fish cakes were made elsewhere? Well we had them; they were microwave hot with that characteristic steamy soft texture. They were very salty not edible. The cinnamon bun had the appearance of a Tim Hortons apple fritter. It seemed to be a baking powder /baking soda and not yeast base; not a lot of flavour. lThe cheese onion scone was not crisp but at least it was edible.

Fantastic food and staff, wonderful patio. The blackened salmon was the best meal I've had on the island. They brought a bowl of water out for my pup on the patio. The lemon cheesecake was the perfect finish to the evening.

We got married at Gypsy Tea Room on November 8, 2025. In the months leading up to our wedding both Doug and MJ were prompt in answering any questions I had. Our walkthrough prior to the wedding answered any and all other questions and helped make our day much more structured. Doug conveniently offered to play his own music for our reception as I did not opt for a DJ. Our wedding day went off without a hitch. Doug, MJ and Cassie were very attentive to both us and our guests during dinner service and for the entire event. Dinner was served quickly and efficiently, our guests raved about their meals and many commented that it was the best meal they have ever had at a wedding. We served wine with dinner and no one had an empty glass the entire time. We opted to give our guests drink tickets as wedding favours and Doug and his team ensured the bar was well stocked ahead of time, and everyone was very pleased with that aspect of our celebration as well. Our day was absolutely perfect from our ceremony at Gypsy to the end of our reception. I cannot thank Doug, MJ, and Cassie enough for the impeccable service and attention paid to both ourselves and our guests, and the chefs that evening for our delicious meals. We are all still talking about it. Thank you all so much for helping to make our day so special and see you all again soon for our Gypsy dates.

We were recommended this place by locals a few times so we decided to try it out and are very glad we did! Staff is very friendly and also gave good food recommendations. We both got the Candied Apple cocktail and it was the best cocktail of our trip. For an appetizer we got the Brie; it was pricey but so delicious and looked pretty. Woulda like just a couple more crostinis but either way, we still enjoyed it very much. For our mains I ordered the Cajun Chicken Fettuccini and my fiancée got the Blackened Salmon and we both absolutely loved our meals, everything was cooked and presented to perfection. Highly recommend stopping by!

I am visiting St. John's, NL for business. I asked the Delta Concierge for restaurant recommendations and he suggested The Gypsy Tea Room. The Blackened Salmon was excellent, I would have licked my plate if I was home. I didn't have any dessert, but the options looked divine! Cassie, the waitress is the epitome of waitresses! Very attentive, responsive, accommodating (for dietary restrictions), simply delightful!

A really nice place to dine! Great atmosphere, decor, menu of food and drinks, with a daily special menu as well. Patrick, our waiter was great, helpful w recommendations, personal and excellent, wuth very professional service skills. Prices can be on the high side, but overall experience was very good. I ordered the Newfoundland oysters, lots of sea flavour but a little disappointing as they were seasonally very small. The accompanying fresh shaved horseradish was a very unique add on enhancing the dish. The Cod dish was done well with a slight hoisin like sauce, very flavourful. My wifes 1.5 lbs(small size) Newfoundland lobster plate of was delicious, however I was found the Newfoundland lobster to be a tougher version than Maine/Atlantic lobster that I'm used to, but still overall full of flavour. My friends had the 2.5lb version while an even larger 3.5lb version was available. Overall, a great dining experience, but be sure to make reservations early as getting a table is exceptionally challenging. Highly recommended.

We wanted fresh Newfoundland lobster. This is the place! It has a somewhat large menu, not that it’s a bad thing.. just that there were SO many items we wanted to try. Ultimately we ordered the Mussels in White Wine sauce and Ahi Tuna tacos for Apps, mains were Seared Halibut and Whole Fresh Lobster. Everything was full of flavour and a good portion size. The only hiccup of the night was when we found hair in my vegetables, which was taken care of instantly and without question. The atmosphere is a decent dim lighting so you can enjoy the views of the harbour yet still eat abs maneuver through the restaurant. Overall I highly recommend SJFX and will make sure it’s a stop on our next adventure to St. John’s.

This is my second time at fish exchange, i had fish and chips the first time. It was good, not memorable. I decided to go back and try the crab legs, which were absolutely devine and the cajun butter was perfect. My entree however, a tuna tartar was bland and not cut properly which was a disappointment. Id go back for their crab legs. My friend asked me to take a lobster mac n cheese to go for her. The waitress said it was her favourite thing in the menu... wish she'd had mention that when I asked her what were the most popular things on n the menu. I tried the mac as well, ill know what to oder nxt time!!! It was delicious.

This was the first time that we’ve tried Lobster and Crab, and it was an awesome experience. Well cooked and seasoned food. Seafood chowder was full of flavour and i think it can be a best choice of starter to include during cold weather.

We walked in around 5PM & it was surprisingly busy! Brought my boyfriend for his birthday & when I looked online there was nowhere to make a reso. The hosted asked if we had one, I said no there wasn’t anymore to make one on the website, then she said you have to call in.. very inconvenient & not well advertised! Anyways, we got a table luckily. The website & Instagram said they had happy hour but apparently only at the bar? Again, not well advertised. Our server was very nice & offered us our first drink at happy hour pricing. We ordered a couple margaritas which tasted a little watery but otherwise good. We ordered the steak sandwiches with mashed potatoes & baby potatoes which saved the day! Absolutely delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend!

The place is beautiful; I loved the decor and the atmosphere. I must say our server, Patrick, was excellent. The food was good, but the calamari and bruschetta were too sweet for my taste.

If you're looking to have a good seafood experience with a good atmosphere, it's worth the wait. It's Saturday 7pm and the wait time for sitting at the bar is 40mins to 1hr. We didn't have a reservation, walked in and put our names on the wait-list. We waited 50 minutes and sat down at one of their high tops. The place is very busy and the staff are quite friendly and hospitable. Ordered the lobster and shrimp pappardelle and overall was tasty but didn't have much of a seafood taste. Unfortunately we found our seafood portions to be quite chewy. Overall would return.

Beware of the parking lot run by honk directly in front of this restaurant, it's not run by the restaurant has nothing to do with them. Just want you to be aware paid for my parking extended my parking because the wait was longer than anticipated for our seat. When I came out, noticed there was a ticket on my car as well as a boot so I couldn't move we were six minutes late. They charged $149 to remove the boot. They said that they send you an email giving you details to extend never received anything several cars in the parking lot experiencing the exact same thing the restaurant is worth going to the food was exceptional. We didn't have a reservation so we waited longer than anticipated, but the food was well worth it. These people are vultures, visiting this island for the first time absolutely disgusted by the treatment from this parking lot. not sure how the city would allow something like this I can understand six minutes late giving me a ticket for 20 or $30 but to put a boot on a car is absolutely ridiculous. after speaking to the restaurant, they said that this happens very frequently. Something should be posted to warn their patrons about this.

Its dining room is renowned for serving up hearty comfort cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients, including game meats and seafood as well as produce from its own organic garden.
We stopped here for lunch in our way north, good thing we did, the food was delicious. We ordered the seafood chowder, the mussels and a garden salad. The chowder was the best I’ve had, I would say ever, with chunky pieces of fish and seafood, perfectly seasoned. Loved it. The mussels were in a pesto sauce, very unique and tasted perfect. The only comment is that wish it came with a plain dinner roll or a piece of bread. The service is excellent, and prompt. The restaurant is so cozy, very clean and beautifully decorated.

Came here for dinner after hearing good things about this restaurant. I don’t know if it was an off night, but aside from the seafood chowder, I can best describe everything else as being aggressively bland tasting. Very little (or boring) flavours across the board. It was an extremely surprising dining experience. All that aside, the service was great with a comfortable dining atmosphere.
Alison — Google review
The restaurant is located at a beautiful spot and offers some amazing views. We went to this resturaunt for their dinner time which begins serving at 5 PM. Before that, they are closed and usually only accept reservations for dinner (can be done through the website). Food was good, however, super over priced for the amount that you’re getting. For example, the mussels (categorized under Starters) were $16 and the portion was HUGE. However when we got the main popular dish - “seafood bubbly bake” which when asked, we were told by the server that it was “huge” and that 2 people can definitely share it, was super small in comparison. The food is delicious and fresh, however, the portion and price did not make sense to me at all. If given the choice again, I would probably dine at a different place.

This is the best food that we’ve had in Rocky Harbour. We regret not visiting Java Jacks sooner in our visit as we’d have kept coming back for the duration of our stay. The Moose En Croute dish was incredible. The pesto mussels were fantastic and the Irish soda bread was a great extra. Service was impeccable. The young man was very attentive, accommodated us with no reservation and was helpful when we were deciding on which menu items to order. Highly recommend Java Jacks!!

Note: While we ate here in late August, I believe it is now closed for the season. My wife and I stumbled across this restaurant after our evening plans fell through. Not sure what to expect, we entered what looked like a private home that had been converted to a cafe. When we said we were there for dinner, we were brought to the second floor, where various couples / groups of friends were seated at different tables. After ordering, we ate some of the best food I have had in years. The tomato basil soup was delicious, the mussels in pesto sauce that my wife got were fantastic, my lobster sandwich and salad were crazy good, while the dessert we ordered was also wonderful. To make a great situation even better, our server was excellent, friendly, and fun. If I could, I would give this eatery more than five stars.

We visited for my nephew‘s 21st birthday. First they made space for us in a very crowded restaurant, which on its own was great service. Then on top of that, we lucked into the most amazing waiter. Lloyde was fabulous from start to finish. He made us feel welcome and was very attentive and efficient. Despite how busy it was he had a warm smile on his face each time he stopped by. I stopped by given this place was right in front of the hotel I was staying at and had a great experience. I ordered the prime rib, asked for medium rare, and did they ever deliver! The prime rib was tender and very flavourful on its own. A forewarning, their horseradish is fresh and insanely powerful, good pairing to the prime rib as with the aux-juis. Likewise, the service was wonderful and food came in a timely manner, tables and area was clean and staff was very welcoming and friendly. This place has great scenery and views of the port and docked vessels!!

Good vegetarian and vegan options which is often difficult to find! The homemade lentil burger was phenomenal and the chilli and rice was delicious and filling.

Decent place that may not really be worth the hype. Took us 15 minutes to be seated while we stood cramped up against the door with people outside wanting to come stand in but barely any place available. Once seated, food was bland and overpriced. We had the moose burger, fish and chips, seafood linguini pasta, and chowder. The pasta was at least creamy and tasty, the fish was fresh, but other than that nothing to write home about. The servers are nice people.

We tried the Fish n Chips. The food was good. Batter was cooked to the perfect degree. The Cod fish was well maintained and tasty. Served with coleslaw and French fries. The tartare sauce was ready made. Chocolate Lava cake was very good though the Cheese Cake was average. The service was very good. The server was friendly and helpful. Meal was a value for money.

We had to wait outside for a bit because the place was super busy but the service once inside was great ai it made up for the wait. We tried the pan fried cod, pan fried salmon, the linguini pasta and the ribs and it was was well seasoned and good portions but for the price I was expecting something a bit better tasting or better looking than the what I can cook at home, regardless we all came out satisfied overall and would probably go again to try the fish and chips which were less pricey.

I wanted my wife to have some fresh delicious fish on our visit to Newfoundland and we were recommended this place by a local. It was an hour out of the way of where we were planning to go, but hey, we are on a road trip. Lets do it. We came down here and got some great pictures of the bay and its surrounding areas. So for that it was already worth it. The restaurant was quite busy. We didnt have to wait, but there was a steady stream of people pouring in with almost all tables taken around lunch time. The menu was very dated. I mean you can see years of grime built up on the edges and on the pages. The prices have been whited out and repriced with a pen countless times. I know its a fisherman's town and you have some hard working people touching it as they come in, but this is was beyond that. Im sure it doesn't cost a lot to update it a bit so that it looks... hygienic. I had a cheese burger and my wife had the fisherman's delight dinner and a serving of jiggs dinner (available on Wednesday only) which she was going to take on the road. My burger and fries were delicious. Well cooked with fresh vegetables and big serving of fries. My wife loved her dinner. Everything was prepared and seasoned well. Best food by far on the island. The price point was fair for the quality and portions. The atmosphere within the restaurant could use a bit of an update as well. Verdict: If youre looking for the best food around, we drove an hour and were not disappointed.

Twine Loft Dining, nestled within the Artisan Inn in Trinity, is a must-visit culinary gem that offers an intimate dining experience with only 20-25 seats per sitting. Reservations are highly recommended to secure your spot at this casual-fine dining establishment. Guests can indulge in a carefully curated set menu that caters even to picky eaters, ensuring satisfaction for all palates.
Our dining experience at Twine Loft was absolute perfection. We had made reservations in advance, and received excellent communication via email about our upcoming dining. The day before we were emailed our 2 options to choose from. My husband chose the pork with the rhubarb chutney and I chose the cod with walnuts. The day of, we arrived 45 minutes early and enjoyed drinks in the sunshine on the deck overlooking the water. At 5:15 we came inside. We started off with bread and herbed butter, and then were given an option of a soup or salad for appetizer. The soup was apple parsnip - which I never would have thought of as a combo, but was amazing. We then had mains, followed by a Newfoundland Spice Cake with a screech sauce. Absolutely every bite of our meal was exquisite. It is simple Newfoundland ingredients, prepared perfectly. The service was excellent - warm and welcoming from beginning to end. I would highly recommend dining here.

Excellent fixed menu…we had a choice of chicken or salmon and we both chose the chicken because we liked the potato option that came with the chicken better. The chicken had a fantastic spice rub, was perfectly cooked, and finished with a blueberry sauce. Appetizer was a choice of zucchini soup or a salad. We got both and both were excellent. Wine list was extensive for such a remote location.

Visited beautiful Trinity with my 85 year old mother and aunt in late June 2025 and made sure to make a reservation at the Twine Loft. Simply put, it was a lovely experience. Right from the conversation about our dining party preferences, I knew it would be wonderful. The atmosphere is simply delightful (if the weather permits take in pre dinner drinks on the waterfront deck). Service was friendly, attentive and professional. And the food was delicious, whether it was the sweet potato and apple soup, the mixed greens with apricots, the pork or salmon entree, or the bread pudding with rum sauce - nothing was left on our plates. Yum, yum, yummy! Highly recommend if you are in the Trinity area (and I’d suggest making reservations early).

If you’re looking for a food experience, this is the place to go. It’s a preset menu for a 3-course meal. Everything tasted so delicious. Sitting on the back deck as the sun was going down was most beautiful.

This is a wonderful dining experience. Don’t expect to get in and out in an hour though, the meal with all its courses takes 2 hours. Highly recommend going early for cocktails on the deck!!!

An absolutely amazing experience. The food tasted well with all the senses. It looked wonderful, you could smell it before you even entered the restaurant. And the taste to die for. The service was wonderful, Glenn made us fell comfortable from the moment we walked in the door, until the we left. We enjoyed it so much the first time, we were lucky enough that the had availability the next day. Highly recommend eating here if you are in Trinity.
Andrea M — Google review
I am a chef by trade and this was the best dining experience me and my wife have both had in years. Years! Accept the early invitation and enjoy some beverages on the deck before dinner. Watch the sunset out there if possible. Let the knowledgeable staff recommend a bottle of wine that will go best with your menu choices. I had a lamb shank that was unreal, my wife had cod en papillote. Pretty different dishes but our wonderful server Lisa hit the nail on the head with a Chardonnay recommendation. She was awesome and this place is awesome!! 20 out of 10 would recommend to just about anyone!

The Lightkeepers Cafe is a charming seafood restaurant located in Fishing Point, offering stunning views of the harbor and the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can enjoy delicious seafood dishes while taking in the breathtaking scenery, including the occasional iceberg sighting. The restaurant's location on a lighthouse cliff adds to its unique appeal. Guests can savor fine dining options such as seafood platters and shrimp chowder while being treated to excellent service.
Had dinner here based on a recommendation. Views are outstanding, service was friendly and quick, and the food was outstanding. Best fish and chips I have had in a long time - better than in St. Johns. Had the local rum with the iceberg ice that our server picked out of the ocean! My wife had seafood pasta and said it was excellent as well. We will definitely be back.
Steve A — Google review
Great location for a restaurant. The view is, of course, weather sensitive. One can only imagine the vista when skies are clear. The atmosphere was plain, adequate for the purpose of dining. The service was like an early rehearsal for a complex play, a few performance issues that remained to be mastered. Our server was very pleasant despite a demanding workload. As for the food, it was quite enjoyable. I did not have room for a dessert portion. I'm certain, however, that it would have been a treat.

The Lightkeepers Cafe, nestled in the former residence of the Fishing Point Lighthouse keeper, offers a truly unique dining experience. Its panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, coupled with the rich history of the building, create an unforgettable atmosphere. We were captivated by the cafe's charm and the friendly service. The menu boasts a delicious array of Newfoundland classics, and we were particularly impressed by the fish cakes, often hailed as the best in Atlantic Canada. The fresh seafood, sourced locally, was undeniably the star of the show. Beyond the culinary delights, the cafe offers a fantastic vantage point for whale watching and iceberg spotting. The restaurant provides binoculars near the windows so you can dine and view. With binoculars in hand, we spent a delightful afternoon enjoying the scenery and indulging in delicious food. The cafe's outdoor seating area is the perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun. While we didn't bring our furry friend on this occasion, the cafe is dog-friendly, making it a welcoming spot for those traveling with pets. A visit to the Lightkeepers Cafe is more than just a meal; it's an experience that encapsulates the essence of Newfoundland. The combination of history, delicious food, and breathtaking views makes it a must-visit destination for any traveler to the area.

Such a little gem. If you are in St Anthony’s Newfoundland, go you won’t regret it. But try to make a reservation they are always busy.

Great views, but overpriced. Had Cod Au Gratin that looked like it was served in a butter dish, and had barely any cod. Thought I had ordered the lunch portion, but nope. Wife ordered dinner salad that was similar to a side portion. The only saving grace was our server. She was fantastic, and basically apologized for the portions.

This was highly recommended by the Northlands Discovery Iceberg Tour. So right after our tour, we went for lunch. The place was awesome! We sat by the window overlooking the ocean. Amazing view! The food were great too. We ordered the lightkeeper’s seafood chowder, calamari and fish-n-chips. My spouse and I shared these between us and we were both full. As shown on the photo, we split up the fish-n-chips in 2 separate plates. Ashley was our server and she was friendly, fast and efficient. This place is highly recommended! Their prices are reasonable too.

Went here for supper and really enjoyed the food and the service. Marine layer came in so missed out on the view but could still see a little. We had the cod and halibut dinners. Both were amazing! Husband had a drink made with iceberg ice. Could see the bubbles in the ice. Service was great sparkling clean tables. Quick service and super friendly. Also did the Viking Feast here and that food was good as well

Stunning views from this amazing little restaurant. Food was amazing even though we arrived on opening day! Met the owner, Patty, and our waitress Latistia, both wonderful, friendly people. We were lucky to see 1 iceberg fairly close and 4 others further out. The area is famous for whale watching. Stunning beautiful cove. A must to see. We went up 4 times in 2 days.

The friendly and efficient service complements the stunning ocean view from the windows. Guests can also enjoy a relaxed sunset walk along low tide rocks to a sea cave after their memorable evening meal.
What a gem of a place! Best dinner we have had so far on our 7 week journey across Canada. Everything from the cocktails, to appetizer, to entrees, to dessert was delicious! This restaurant exceeded our expectations and we would recommend to anyone visiting the area. We felt the prices were reasonable for the portions and more importantly the quality. The service was also top notch, very personable and attentive.

We loved this place. We had a balladeer serenade us while we ate. In spite of being amidst a bus full of vacationers, we were seated and served promptly. These servers know how to handle a crowd. There is a bar and curio shop in the back with local hand made items. The scenery at this location is amazing. This restaurant is truly at the end of the road in Newfoundland. There isn’t much else out here. This restaurant is near the Viking site in Newfoundland.
Keith N — Google review
We loved the quiet music and peaceful atmosphere with all the art on the walls, as well as the view of the water. We were really looking forward to nice dining, but all our dishes were just a little bit disappointing. The special of moose dumplings were only 4 in nice thin wrappers, but it was just a little nugget of essentially moose sausage. The baby shrimp on a pea pancake was my favorite of the night, with a nice balsamic drizzle. The duck confit was very dry. The 1/2 rack of lamb was very tasty. Service was very friendly and well paced. The wine list was surprisingly good, given the location.

Authentic Newfoundland! Great service in a beautiful setting. We had mussels for an appetizer, pan fried cod for the main and figgy duff for dessert.

The Norseman was in just about every guide I looked at while researching this trip and now I’ve seen why. All those recommendations are well-deserved. The menu is a perfect combination of sophisticated and approachable. Everything was exceptionally well-executed with lovely presentation. In addition to delicious food, the service was fantastic. They have a great staff who are very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is tasteful but unpretentious. The gallery/shop is a nice addition and a good place to find local art, handmade items, collectibles, and books (including some very sweet and highly-giftable children’s books by the restaurant’s owner).

The restaurant boasts an ocean-view panoramic deck where patrons can enjoy their meals. While some reviewers found the food to be of high quality and the staff friendly and helpful, others noted that it was quite expensive and had long wait times for food.
The best meal I’ve had in a long time and hands down the best place I’ve eaten in all of Newfoundland! Staff is friendly, decor is modern and thoughtful and the menu is incredible! They do take-away for lunch as well, so we had a gourmet meal as we stopped along our hike. Obviously we came back for dinner and the Burger + cod were delicious—the dessert was out of this world. Couldn’t decide on one so we shared a slice of vinegar pie (don’t be fooled, it’s sweet & tasty) and blueberry peach pie. Make sure to stop here if you’re in Twillingate, first-class bistro! ❤️

When you visit Twillingate at the end of September, there’s not much left open! We were sure glad Georgie’s stays open!! The food was excellent and the service friendly and attentive. The star of the show for us had to be the mussels! You’ll need to order extra bread for the broth. Yum. And I can’t forget to mention their dessert take on the Touton. Absolutely delicious.

We were here in early June and were staying in The Annex up on the hill behind The Anchor Inn. Being early in the season there weren't many others around yet. Our server was great, very friendly and prompt. We ordered their "Local cod in a crispy Quidi Vidi beer batter. Served with tartar sauce, fresh lemon, house-made slaw and fries". And the dessert we got was a very tasty "NAN'S MINI PIES" -3 traditional "mini pie" shells filled with a choice of local berry compote and topped with Fussell's Cream." Unfortunately they were so tasty looking that we gobbled them down before I thought to get a picture. So delicious! The paintings on the wall were beautiful scenes of the area. Also there is a great view of the harbour!

Went to Georgie’s for anniversary dinner. The food and service were second to none. We had a charcuterie board as an appetizer, and it was filled with lots of different goodies I had the pan fried cod, and my wife had the blackened salmon.. I highly recommend trying Georgie’s out if you’re in the area.
Jeff B — Google review
With limited late-night dining options in the Newfoundland suburbs, we ended up at Georgie’s more out of necessity than choice. We both ordered the Seafood platter, which was decent overall. The cod and the salmon were flaky and fresh, but the dish itself wasn’t particularly memorable—just fine. The dining room ambiance could use a little help: it lacked warmth and felt a bit stark. Some softer lighting and a more attentive service would have gone a long way in elevating the experience. That said, we had a pleasant enough meal, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression.
Cynthia T — Google review
We wanted to have a nice dinner at this place but it did not work out. When we came on Monday at 5 pm, the place was almost empty with only 3 tables occupied. The waitress dined sitting us suggesting that we have no reservation and it is all booked. She did not even make an effort to suggest options and they clearly would not be full within an hour or so as the restaurant is fairly big and has 15-20 tables.
Sergii T — Google review
We visited Georgie’s in October when it was the only place open in Twillingate. I’d suggest if you have other options, take them. The food was meh at best - chicken souvlaki was dry and the rice was plain minute rice with some herb sprinkled on top. Fish was soggy in fish and chips and the fries were overcooked. Side salad was nice with a homemade dressing - highlight of the meal. $80 we wish we could get back - grilled cheese and soup at airbnb would have been better.
Paula C — Google review
Went for dinner with my mother and sister and we had a wonderful evening. My sister and I had salmon and it was cooked perfectly with fresh, delicious veg sides. My mum loved the seafood linguine. I have been often and have always enjoyed the hospitality and service. Huge thanks to all at Georgie's for a great night.

Jonna was lovely, provided amazing service for us first timers. We loved the fries and homemade gravy. Fish was decent - a good price! And the snowballs were tasty. Very laid back atmosphere for some comfort food.

Rumoured to be the best place in town for fish and chips, but I came for the chips, dressing and gravy! This place is a step back into time. Old style diner type vibes. Plenty of indoor seating and a menu that pretty much revolves around a fryer. My chips, dressing and gravy was legit a comfort food dish I never knew I needed!!! Why is this only happening in Newfoundland?? Definitely worth a visit if you want to try a local favorite.

Cool place to dine in family, we arrive the whole family of 17 and we kindly ask if they could accommodate us, without blinking the lady opened the private area and staff cleaned the entire table for us to sit, such a proactive employee and nice people, she apologized for only having plastic glasses but we were completely happy and didn’t even pay attention to the glasses, food was served in a reasonable time , good very generous and everyone was happy, they divided the bill in 3 i have never seen that , they divided the entire bill like one fish and schips is like 12 bucks and we got each 4 bucks to pay, that was so smart and so easy to pay attention the counter. We gave a generous tip because they were very effective

An old style diner, has a nice atmosphere, lots of seating, and appeared clean. I ordered a two piece fish & chips, cod tongues and cheeks. The fish tasted fresh and had a fluffy, crispy, light tasting batter without seasoning. The cheeks and tongues were both tasty, the tongues were a bit slimy. In all, it was an average but good meal. The portion size for the meal was good and it was a decent price. They have a nice homemade vinegar. The Iceberg Beer was great, but I didn't get a glass with it. Our server, Tracy, was friendly and attentive. We had an enjoyable, relaxing dinner here.

If you are ever in St. John’s, I would definitely recommend giving a spot a try.

Solid fish and chips with crispy batter over very fresh cod, unseasoned. Fries were good but not as crunchy as I would like, gravy was delicious. Cod tongue app was just ok. If you’re looking for an exceptional dine-in experience in Corner Brook, this place is a must-visit. The food was outstanding—I tried the sashimi, and the presentation was absolutely stunning. I also had the stir-fry and vegetable ramen, and both were fantastic. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The restaurant is always busy, so I’d highly recommend making a reservation. Best sushi show in west Newfoundland, different variety of sushi and other kind of dishes available. Must try, Quick Tip don’t order any sushi plate which is over 18 dollar, try to order more plates as each serve have 8 to 10 sushi approx. I had an absolutely incredible experience at Newfound sushi, and a big part of that was thanks to Anna, our amazing server! From the moment we arrived, she made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to make our visit special. We were celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday, and Anna made it unforgettable by surprising us with a delicious cheesecake for dessert. Her thoughtful gesture, warm personality, and impeccable service truly made our evening feel personal and memorable. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—some of the best we’ve ever had. Combined with the outstanding service from Anna and the cozy atmosphere, it made for a perfect dining experience. Thank you, Anna, and the entire team, for making our celebration so special. We’ll definitely be back soon!

This sushi was absolutely incredible, you can definitely taste the freshness from the local seafood. They weren’t slacking on stuffing their rolls or the size of them. It was a bit of a wait for them to make everything and pricey, but for the amount you’re getting and the quality I had no regrets. Only issue is, I wish I got more, it was the best sushi I’ve ever had. And with such a large menu I had trouble choosing what to get.

Went there for Ramen. Appetizers are like every Japanese restaurant elsewhere. Had the shoyu ramen. The Chiashu Pork and the Tamago were done great. Missing the aromatics. Broth was salty. Noodles were overcooked. I told the server the noodles were overcooked and asked for noodles separately, they were still overcooked. Will have to go back for sushi. Servers were great. Ambiance is nice. Location has got quite a view of the waters and mountain.

My favourite spot in St. John’s so far.. Came for brunch on the weekend so there was some wait, but maybe less than ten minutes, so worth it. Food and service were great. Loved the atmosphere. Got a cheese omelette.. Had to try to the Touton which was delicious. Coffee is also pretty good. Will definitely come back when in St. John’s.

Had breakfast while staying in the area, a nice spot that opens at 8 am. Friendly service with frequent top ups of coffee. Had to try their Fish & Brewis, a traditional Newfoundland dish. Also had their Western Omelette. Tasty food! I've never had hard tack or scrunchions before, so it was a culinary experience. Thankfully, the fresh fruit side balanced out the greasiness of the fried food and salted cod. A nice morning meal to end off our travels in the city.

Amazing breakfast! Go early before the rush. It’s worth the wait if you don’t get there early and there is a line. Stick around anyway! We ordered coffees, always topped up and hot. Great unlimited coffee! Service is excellent! Staff all working so hard as a team to keep customers happy. The Toutons are fantastic! Tried one with molasses and the other with syrup. It was our first time trying Toutons and we loved them very much. Must try! We also ordered Fish & Brewis, Fish cake, Western omelette and added sausages on the side. Best breakfast and kept us full all day!

A real classic! 😋 🍳 This was my first breakfast spot during my short Newfoundland trip. I chose this place out of the abundance of upvotes from Reddit. Had a CLASSIC 2-egg breakfast with bacon and toast. But I also tried out the touton, a local NL delicacy. It reminds me a lot of like bannock, except this is served with molasses. All very delicious. Amazing little restaurant! I came here for breakfast and had the french toast and fish cakes. Everything tasted fresh and was served quickly. The service was great: refills on coffee, checking on the food, and making you feel like you're welcome and appreciated as a customer. If you're looking for a place where you can enjoy a nice Newfoundland breakfast and leave smiling and full, this is the restaurant for you!
KV190 — Google review
A very typical diner style restaurant. They had a number of Newfoundland specialties. I had a breakfast with eggs and bacon. The bacon was well cooked and the eggs fresh. The homefries were just OK. Most important was the service was excellent. The waitress was very patient as the "tourists" asked lots of questions on our first morning in Newfoundland. A reasonably priced place serving good food.

Great classic east coast diner! Solid portions and really tasty stuff. Simple fare but perfect after or before a long hike. Staff are super friendly and the place is always full. Probably the best Touton in Saint John’s!! Prices are super reasonable. I highly recommend the fish and brewis for a classic dish. Would fully recommend!!

The cutest little diner downtown with a great menu and great prices. Didn't look like a lot of indoor seating but they were very fast at serving. Their fish & brewis with toast was incredible, large portion and delicious. A great start to my day.

Anchor Cafe is a family-friendly spot located near The Rooms in Georgestown. It offers delicious meals and great service, making it highly recommended for a satisfying dining experience. The cafe is accessible with a ramp at the rear entrance and has a homey atmosphere. While some dishes like the lobster roll may not meet expectations, other options such as the seafood chowder and fisherman's platter are delightful.
Best halibut and chips I’ve ever had. I Liked having the bottle of tartar sauce on the table (can’t stand when restaurants just give out a tiny cup full). Really great and friendly service and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. We really enjoyed our meal. Wife had the moose burger which she loved and our son was hooked on the homemade fries. Highly recommend this place!

Meals are huge! We had seafood club with home fries and fish tacos with a side of their daily soup. The side soup was like a full bowl. It was excellent. The fish tacos had a heavier coating than I like but they were still good.
Sharon W — Google review
The food is ok. The lobster roll was a little bit dry and local shrimp didn't have bright taste. The newfoundland chowder with garlic tostes was good. Halibut tongs as an exotic local dish was interesting to try and very tasty.

Found this hidden jem on our way from L'Anse aux Meadows. The best seafood chowder I've tasted so far. Chunky, with lots of seafood, and very hearty. The cod, scallops and cod tongue on the Fishernan's platter were to die for. Blackened cod and halibut combo was a rare treat. The service was exceptional and the staff very attentive and accomodationg. Definitely worth a detour if you're in the area.

“Sarah”, the one that made me eat all that fish at the Anchor Cafe in Port aux Choix. Even though it was fried, I had to break down and get it. It was halibut and a nice thick portion of it. Actually two nice big portions of it. Fresh caught from the local fishermen. Note: I only ate half of the fries. I loved the restaurant and Sarah was very friendly and made me feel very welcomed.

The Boreal Diner, located in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada, is a charming restaurant known for its small yet delightful menu featuring local and seasonal dishes with a focus on seafood and vegetables. The diner offers outdoor seating and attentive waiter service for lunch, dinner, drinks, and coffee. Guests can also opt for takeout as the meals are freshly prepared to order. The desserts are particularly exquisite.
We each had the three-course tasting menu and really enjoyed it! The food was well presented with incredible flavours, and uniquely combined local ingredients. The service was more laid-back but still attentive and friendly. Taste sensation! Highly recommend for a special meal.

Delicious food, very creative, loved the carrots especially. Unfortunately they'd run out of pork fillet so we were left a choice of either lobster or a beef tenderloin for two, neither of which we fancied. The steamed potatoes with white truffle and dandelion and capers were great and original too. Overall I loved it.
Brian C — Google review
Absolutely delicious spot with creative and beautiful dishes. The smoked beet dish, cod, and Koji marinated beef were particularly stellar. Everything was great, fun eclectic twists on local ingredients. I'd say dessert is the weakest link here but even that was solid. They accommodated a gluten-free member of the party with a special menu (we forgot to give them prior notice to do this, but if you have allergies let them know ahead of time and I'm sure they'll do even better).

I live in a large city with a lot of dining options and this was hands down of the best meals I have ever had. Everything was prepared perfectly. The menu was very creative and the service was excellent. We also loved the cozy space. Cannot recommend this place enough if you are looking for a higher end meal in this area. Definitely book ahead!

The best restaurant in two weeks of travel in Newfoundland, and I would say one of the best we have met in Canada (both East and West coast). I would give this restaurant a Michelin star, a recommendation at least;) Beautiful food presentation, local products, cooked perfectly, everything was so fresh and well balanced! Came there for dinner two days in a row😁 Fast and friendly service, simple cozy interior😍Highly recommend!
Kate S — Google review
After reading the reviews, we had high hopes for this place as a special meal out during our mini break in Bonavista. The beef tartare, steamed carrot buns, steak, and grilled cabbage wedge were delicious with wonderful flavors and textures. Sadly, though, the crab and lobster dishes were disappointing. The crab was rather bland, and the lobster's rich flavour was lost, buried under a spicy, too strongly flavored sauce. While we enjoyed our time here overall, it was a bit disappointing that it was the seafood that wasn't quite up to par.
Karen M — Google review
I hyped myself up for this place because I read the reviews about how it’s a great place for special occasions with an amazing fine dining experience (some even say it’s Michelin star worthy). I tried so hard to like this place but the aftertaste here is worse than the scallops they served me. Even a month later I am writing this review just to warn others about how bad it truly is. If you’re coming from a big city, this place is not even close to what you could get from a Michelin guide restaurant. And the staff is hilariously undertrained. Go here if you want an overpriced meal while children scream downstairs and the waiter asks what you need and then dismisses your request to bring the side dish you ordered. They charge fine dining prices and make unique dishes but their seafood quality is extremely lacking while their steaks are sous vide to mush. Enjoy your special occasion here because I’ll never forget how bad it was.

Lighthouse Picnics offers a delightful culinary experience nestled in the serene coastal beauty of Ferryland, just an hour's drive from St. John's. This unique dining option allows visitors to indulge in gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads, and delectable desserts packed into takeaway picnic baskets. Each meal is crafted with care using local ingredients and can be enjoyed on a cozy blanket while soaking up stunning views or diving into a good book from the Lighthouse Library.
Great experience for everyone - visited back in August booked the night prior as weather was looking spotty prior to and I think a lot of people cancelled (which meant a less busy lighthouse), but ended up being a well-worth it experience. Curry chicken sandwich and lemonade were good. Staff were friendly. Atmosphere and view are stunning. Note that the walk to the lighthouse is about 20-30 min (washrooms at the lighthouse), so arrive well in advance! There is a man with an ATV that can take you for a small fee.

The location and views are breathtaking! The sandwiches, salads and desserts are really delicious and fresh. We especially loved the carrot cake. Highly recommend. Remember to book well in advance.

We loved our lighthouse picnic experience. I booked online 2 weeks before our trip. In the day of, you drive up the gravel road to the parking lot, and then hike (uphill on the way there) 1.0 km to the lighthouse. We reserved our picnic for the 12:00 pick up, and arrived early so we could explore the area around the lighthouse before the picnic pick up time. The area is beautiful. At noon we went in the room at the bottom of the lighthouse to pick up our food. Everything was ready and in a bag for us to take with us. They have baskets and blankets for you to borrow and bring your stuff out to the area around the light house. There is also a single washroom for use inside, that is only accessible from 12-3 when picnics are being served. There are benches and picnic tables, as well as lots of green space to picnic on the ground with your blanket. I really enjoyed the cookies and orzo salad. By husband loves his curried chicken sandwich, though for me, I don’t love the jam and Brie as much. The sandwiches are huge with very thick slices of bread. Enjoying the picnic with the view of the tuna jumping in the ocean was special. We are so glad we arranged for this picnic and would definitely recommend it.
Alyssa B — Google review
We visited the lighthouse picnic, but unlike many others, I hadn’t pre-ordered. I only realized once we got there that food has to be booked ahead, and when searched in google maps, “about” section or menu doesn’t really say that clearly. It would be helpful if they added that note up front so first-time visitors don’t miss it. Since I couldn’t get the full picnic, I just grabbed a brownie and a lemonade instead. Both were really good, and the spot itself is beautiful, so I still enjoyed the visit. But if you’re planning to go, make sure you pre-order your picnic in advance, otherwise you’ll end up like me, wishing you had.
Ramya S — Google review
Whether a local or come-from-away, a lighthouse picnic is not to be missed! The service provided by the truly lovely staff is outstanding. The food is some of the most delicious on the island & beyond - fresh, flavorful, generous servings of everything. The setting? Spectacular. We sat hillside over the cliffs watching the surf pound & splash against the craggy shore as a pod of seals frolicked not 100ft away under most brilliant sunshine. Heaven on earth.
Lavetta G — Google review
A very original lunch idea surrounded by nature that creates a truly memorable moment as the coastal setting on the eastern part of Newfoundland (Canada) is remarkable. The food is all home made: great tasty sandwiches, salad, lemonade and desserts. If you are lucky you may see passing by icebergs while you eat.
Antonio S — Google review
Omg this was the most amazing experience! The food, location and experience....all incredible! I had the veggie sandwich and my husband had the chicken curry. Both exceptional! You pick your picnic up inside the lighthouse. They also have cookies there so bring cash. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. They even had blankets! It is about a 10min easy hike from parking lot in medow to lighthouse. A must do experience!
Meghan K — Google review
The concept sounds nice. Except you have to reserve and make your order before arriving on site. We looked at the website and didn’t notice this. So we drove, walked 20 min to the lighthouse and they told us that they needed a reservation. We had to walk back 20 min to our car the stomach empty. They only this is that a little sign mentioning the reservation is NEEDED should be at the parking lot so people don’t make the trek to be told to go back. I’m on vacation and didn’t plan to reserve a sandwich place

Wow wow wow! We absolutely *loved* this place. As vegans, it was honestly the BEST dining experience we’ve had since visiting Newfoundland over the last ten days! From the absolutely delicious food, incredible atmosphere / music & friendly staff - we were not disappointed to say the least. I’ve got it starred for our next visit! Excellent vegetarian and vegan food options. One of the only healthier restaurants we could find in St. John’s, which was a great break from pub food. Sandwiches were huge and bread was delicious. Highly recommend the maple tofu and the fresh lemonade!
Kayla M — Google review
First day in St.John's. As vegetarians, we were so happy to find such a cute & cozy spot with such healthy and flavourful food options. We had the soup of the day - butternut squash. Perfect on a cool October afternoon. We then had the Enchilada. Stuffed full of flavour. My only ask would have been to have an authentic, fresh, spicy salsa option. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. The price for some of the add-on options are a little high, but otherwise the actual item prices are very reasonable.
Seema P — Google review
Got some takeout, and staff were so helpful with helping to choose celiac-friendly options! Not only was the food great, but pricing was very reasonable. Would 100% eat there again.
Alex A — Google review
Had the enchilada with refried beans and it was AMAZING - I was surprised I was able to eat the whole thing…and even more surprised I felt great after! Also so cutely decorated inside - love the vibes. Only reason for the missing stars on service / atmosphere are the prices weren’t posted on the blackboard (though they are on the menus at the table - just realized late), and some of the music was a little intense for my personal tastes haha. But would definitely come back - I have my eye on the curry, the Pad Thai, the teriyaki bowl or one of the sandwiches next. The super saiyan salad also looked delicious!
Sophia C — Google review
Some of the best vegan food I have ever eaten! They make their own cashew-based vegan cheese. Flavours of the marinated tofu sandwich are yum. Some flavour of umami and hummus. The tacos are made with a neat chewy skin... I've eaten something similar but I can't name it. It's way better than a traditional tortilla. The avocado taco was good. The CHKN taco was good too. Be careful with the buffalo sauce; it's got tang and heat.

Sushi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Basho Restaurant & Lounge is a sophisticated dining spot known for its Japanese fusion cuisine, wine, and cocktails. Chef Tak Ishiwata, who learned from NYC's Nobu, has been serving up top-notch maki rolls and sushi in St. John's for over a decade. The restaurant also offers excellent steak options like the Dry Aged Striploin with Prosciutto cream.
Amazing dinner at Basho! This place is really incredible. From the atmosphere walking in, to the relaxing vibe, and a 10/10 dinner. We had the loveliest waitress, who was very personable and took the time to chat with us. The food is well thought out and with very creative taste combinations. Everything from the starter salad to the mains and the dessert was top quality. I highly recommend checking out Basho. Reserving a table is a good idea, as it’s not a big place. Dishes pictured: the ‘surf-n-turf’ beef tenderloin and scallops with crispy onion rings starter, lamb shanks with ratatouille main course, and chocolate moose dessert.
Kassia F — Google review
Not sure why the reviews are so high here because our dinner was absolutely terrible. For starters, what kind of fine dining restaurant uses a QR code for their menu? We were served watery martinis with ice cubes floating in them and a random shot glass of weak miso soup and burnt sweet potatoes to start. Next, we shared a plate of sushi which was decent - but not worth the price. For our main, we ordered the filet mignon and what we were served was a beautiful filet mignon with a disgusting wad of cream sauce!! There was no sake in it, it tasted sweet and putrid. It completely ruined the meat. To top it off, we had about about pound each of broccolini on our plates for some reason - no one could possibly eat that much and it was such a waste. And then we had random rice balls and a cold sweet potato croquette on that plate. Honestly, I would not recommend this place. There are plenty of better restaurants that you can go drop $250 on and this isn't one of them.

Great recommendations by the staff, food was amazing! I feel the interior could get a lifting to match the quality of the food! But overall still a great experience!

Loved the food at Basho, the sushi was really fresh, the tuna tartar was very tasty. The beef tartar was devine, it was my first time trying a asian inspired beef tartar and I really enjoyed it, something id go back for. The steak is definitely a star on the menu, this coming from a girl who's not really a steak girl. It was soooooo good, the sauce and the mushrooms were such a good marriage. Would return :)

My first time here & will definitely have to check out again. Servers were 💯, the girls were super nice, explained everything in detail & were super accommodating for tastes/restrictions. The bar is beautiful & was still able to have a cozy dinner with friends while the place was packed. The sushi is really beautiful plated & innovative. Would recommend ✅✅✅

Amazing food!! Highly recommended the foot, the dining room could make some upgrades, but overall definitely recommended!
Sally N — Google review
I was disappointed with my experience at Basho. I’ve heard rave reviews about the place so I went in with high expectations. When we first arrived it was apparent that the hostess greeting us was intoxicated. Enough that each member of our party noticed. We had to wait a half hour after our reservation to be seated at our table. Our reservation was for 8:30 and we got our food at 10. The drinks were good but service was slow and “our ticket got lost” on our second round of drinks which left us sat at our table empty handed for over 30 minutes. I will say the steak was cooked well and delicious. The sides of greens and fries felt more like a filler to have the portions feel bigger. My biggest problem was by far the intoxicated staff. She was very obviously intoxicated to the point where my friend walked in on her throwing up in the bathroom. We brought it up to our waitress and were informed the intoxicated staff member was the owners wife. This paired having to wait an hour and a half for our food would make me very hesitant to return or recommend the place to anyone.

My wife and I stopped by for lunch. What a warm and cozy vibe this place has! The sweet potato soup that my wife had was like a warm hug on the rainy day we were there, and the smoked salmon bagel I had really hit the spot. The only thing I would change is that I would have preferred the bagel be open-faced, as it was a little bit hard to manage as a sandwich, but it was still very good.

Family restaurant
RJ Pinoy Yum, located on Ropewalk Lane, is a popular Filipino restaurant in St. Johns. The restaurant offers a variety of flavorful dishes such as sizzling pork belly, crispy tofu, and tangy sauces served on cast iron platters.
Finally checked this place out today and was not disappointed! No wait for a table, pleasant staff, very well organized menu, and a very clean and comfortable setting. Had the tempura shrimp taco and my friend had the pork belly taco, and they were both amazing, he even got more to take home! For dessert we split the halo-halo and it was amazing! Cold, creamy, and a mix of so many different but complimentary flavors and textures. Couldn't recommend it enough, definitely will be back to try more of their dishes!

It was a fantastic experience again for 2nd time! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it perfect for a casual meal. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring felt right at home. The food Lomi Overload was delicious, with authentic Filipino flavors that truly impressed. Each one was cooked to perfection. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I can't wait to return!
Ye Z — Google review
TL;DR: RJ Pinoy Yum is a great place to have a full meal or a quick bite, try out the filipino cuisine and have a great experience altogether, in terms of both taste and service. When we ordered our food, we grossly underestimated the portion sizes they offered! This makes it a great value for money and also a good place for a group visit! We tried the Wonton Nachos, Lomi Overload, Mango Graham Shake and Pansit Canton. The milkshake felt like a breath of fresh, tropical air with the snow outside. We felt everything that was offered was fresh and generous. Seasoning was a bit on the lower side, but that's reasonable since you could adjust much of it later and leaves room for preferences. The Wonton Nachos was such a simple but savoury dish! Overall, I wouldn't say everything was mouthwateringly delicious, but fulfilling enough to go back time and again! The people here took great care of informing you about components of a dish that you could possibly have an issue with, offering replacements if possible. They were also very amiable and pleasantly concerned about your comfort and experience. The place looks minimal but pretty, with bold colours and gorgeous photos of their dishes. There's a board at the entrance where you could leave a note - that's a singular feature which would stand out to you in terms of aesthetics.

Courtney C — Google review
This was my first foray into Filipino food and I had a great experience. The portions here are moderate and the food tastes great. The spicy foods aren't over spiced as a tolerance test, but instead rely on the blend of spices to achieve the desired result. The non-spicy dishes were similarly flavourful. There are choices for either end of the preferred palate spectrum. The service was speedy and polite. The atmosphere of the restaurant is well suited to table conversation. I was pleased to note the complete absence of any wall mounted TVs, or loud music competing with the table talk.
Adam B — Google review
Stopped in for a quick lunch of a different flavour so i ordered the Pansit with Shrimp and Spring Rolls. The Pansit was a really nice fresh plate of noodles and shrimp that livened up with a squeeze of lime. Very good. The Spring Rolls were thick and crisp. Nice light flavour very filling. Prices were reasonable and the service was friendly and informative. They are celebrating a 3 year anniversary and I wish them many more years of service .

Leo's Restaurant & Take-Out is a Newfoundland and Labrador fish and chips restaurant that serves up some seriously delicious food. The prices are a bit high, but the quality of the food makes it worth it. They could use more brine in their chicken marinade to give it a little more flavor, but overall this is a great restaurant.
This place is a local gem. I make it a point to come here every trip or vacation I take here. Skip out on the shiny tourist traps. Come here and visit Olde St. John's hospitality. Delicious food and friendly staff.

One word describes this place… OUTSTANDING! If you’re from out of town, and searching for the BEST fish and chips, Leo’s is the place to be. Been in St.John’s for a week, so I’ve tried fish and chips elsewhere of coarse, no one beats Leo’s, had to come back several times to eat, only because I know it would be a while before having their fish and chips again. Literally a Momma and son spot, mom the owner serving you like you’ve know her your whole life and son cooking away. It’s a corner restaurant you’d think twice about walking into, don’t make the mistake, walk in and enjoy their fresh fish, absolutely friendly service and, not that it matters, best prices for the amount of food they offer. You will not regret it, a must try. ENJOY! The fish and chip picture I posted is a half portion I shared with my wife, so you have an idea.
Phil C — Google review
Initial opinion on location is what seems to be a mom n pop fish and chips store. The furniture is a bit old but does the job. The food was fresh prepared, and it took around 10 minutes from order to delivery. However, it did not disappoint. I had the large fish and fries with all the fixing. Had all the wonderful flavors and fixtures you would want in a St. John's fish and chips. I would think the plate is sharable as I was full from lunch to dinner!
Jeff L — Google review
When I said to the person behind the counter “it’s been 20 years since I’ve been here” she replied “we haven’t changed!!”. I’m so glad that was true. The fish n chips were exactly how I remembered them: the BEST in St. John’s!!

I found out about Leo's when I watched a number of Mark Royle YouTube videos about Newfoundland fish and chips. Along with all his other recommendations Leo's didn't disappoint. The fries had a different taste than the other fish and chip places that I loved. The staff were friendly and welcomed me as newcomer with characteristic Newfoundland hospitality. Delightful server, DELICIOUS food!! Date night for us and it was just grand!! Ordered the 2-piece fish and chips. So good!
Christine N — Google review
The fish and chips are great! The batter is very crispy and the fries are just so good. It's a very popular place for the locals and it just has a few seats. You might have to wait bit during peak hours. But you won't be disappointed. A must try if you're looking for some good fish and chips. Very friendly service as well.

Since it’s in Newfoundland and I have been to other fish places I have to give it a 3-star. If this restaurant is in Toronto I’ll give it a 4. I went to Ches’s next door and it’s a solid 5. The waiting time is very very long although there aren’t many customers. Food is semi burnt. The fish is soggy. Batter is also soggy. Staff not pleasant. Fries are so-so. Gravy has a burnt taste, it’s thick but it’s tasteless. Fish (cod) is good but the soggy batter ruins it. My suggestion is to go to Ches’s next door instead. Ches’s is cheaper too.

Blue Ocean Dining Room, located at the Bonne Bay Inn, offers stunning panoramic views of the ocean and mountains. This signature restaurant showcases a diverse menu that combines international flavors with traditional Newfoundland cuisine. Experience delectable dishes like moose samosas, lobster dumplings, hazelnut-crusted cod, and decadent chocolate pudding. The attentive and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere in this picturesque location.
We went there for lunch in September while visiting NL. The restaurant was quiet and did not have lots of people. The food and service were excellent. The best thing in this place is the view. We sat by the window in front of the open ocean—great location and view.

If you are in the area, make a reservation and enjoy some fine dining. Not only is the food great, but you can not beat the view. As we enjoyed our dinner, a few Minke Whale starred in the show. Have a chat with Darlene, she is a peach. Erika was lovely as our server.

I was so impressed with this restaurant that I came twice during my one week vacation. For starters the view is amazing, especially at sunset. Appreciated the cool air conditioned dining room and the free parking lot behind the building. If you only have one dish at this restaurant get the lobster linguini, it is delicious. I also loved the scallop appetizer and the nice wine selection (especially the Sav Blanc). The blueberry cheesecake is a baked cheesecake slice that is divine. I would highly recommend coming here and I will definitely be back next year. Ownership has done a fantastic job turning this place around. Cheers.

Fork Restaurant, located near St. Johns, offers a unique dining experience that feels like being nestled in the woods with a view of the ocean. Whether it's brunch after a hike on the East Coast Trail or dinner, the menu features delectable dishes such as Dirty Bird breakfast sandwich and seafood risotto. After operating from a different location for two summers, Fork has now established its own space in Mobile with stunning Atlantic views.
What can we possibly say to do justice to this experience????? It was simply brilliant!! The food is incredible, the place is modern&cosy& peaceful (not noisy at all), and the service is truly excellent. We had a most memorable evening and will keep thinking of it forever. One of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at,and we have been around the world. Hope to be able to make a reservation when we return. Thanks a million!!!!!!

Simply UNREAL food (like mindblowing. And I don't ever say that lightly). Fantastic service. Cozy and inviting and intimate atmosphere. Tucked away down a side road with a beautiful view. If I was rich I would eat here every night, it is simply that good. Prices aren't even that high for this incredible fine dining experience. Simply can't say enough good about it. We had the anchovy-caper-bacon-parmesan Brussels sprouts and they were to die for. Tuna with cucumber, dill and chili oil was also spectacular and I'm not even a big raw tuna fan. We also had the feature tagliatelle pasta (handmade noodles!) dish with braised beef and scallops, and a tomato and cream sauce - simply delicious as well. We'll be back!

Fork Restaurant is an absolute gem. From the moment we arrived, the service was prompt and friendly—everyone made us feel welcome without being overbearing. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance: modern yet cozy, and full of vibrant energy that adds to the experience without ever feeling too loud or crowded. But let’s be real—the star of the show here is the food. It’s hands down the best restaurant breakfast I’ve ever had in Newfoundland. The quality is just unmatched. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. You can really tell they care about what they’re serving. I went with The Basic Breakfast, and at only $20, it’s an unbelievable value. The pork sausage was absolutely unreal—fresh, salty, fatty in the best way, and bursting with flavor. The toutons were cooked to perfection, the hash browns were exactly what hash browns should be, crispy and golden on the outside, soft inside. And the eggs? Knowing they come from the very chickens wandering around outside the restaurant just adds a beautiful, local touch that sets Fork apart even more. I can’t recommend this place enough. Well done, guys. You've set a new standard.
Kenneth G — Google review
Our best dining experience during our two week stay in Newfoundland. Ingredients were freshly prepared, dishes were delicious with many interesting textures and flavours. Service was excellent as well, and the view from the restaurant was also gorgeous. Prices were extremely reasonable for the overall dining experience (we shared three starters and one main and one dessert between two people). If we had more time, we would have returned to try the rest of the menu.

Amazing experience! The food is next level , the staff are wonderful and the setting couldn’t be better. I highly recommend this, “in the middle of nowhere “ spot. We share some appetizers… both delicious. Both mains, NL cod and the seafood pasta were fantastic. Only regret, we didn’t leave room for dessert. Thank you, Fork, for creating one of our highlights in Tors Cove.
Lola M — Google review
I absolutely loved this restaurant! The food was incredibly tasty and perfectly cooked. You can really tell they use fresh, high-quality ingredients. We ordered the duck breast and the Braised Beef Brisket , and both were cooked to perfection — absolutely delicious! I’ll definitely be coming back!

I attended the August Field to Fork series that included a foraging tour with Shawn Dawson and am a beautiful 5 course meal with foraged ingredients and had such an amazing experience. I was blown away by the tour and the delightful ingredients found all around us. I loved the opportunity to connect with others during the tour and the communal dinner. Kyle and Kayla's menu hit it out of the park, with the most creative and fun dishes included a "lobster roll" made with Lobster Mushrooms. I can't wait to do it again!
Amber F — Google review
Been here multiple times. I take people who come to visit here. Love the supper menu more than the brunch, but both are good. We often order a bunch of dishes and share at the table for all to try because it is all so good. The surprise dish for us this trip was the capeline, a traditional NL treat elevated and improved.

Ramen restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Noodle shop
Bad Bones Ramen is a cozy spot on Water Street that has gained popularity for its delicious ramen and Japanese small plates. Despite being relatively new to the restaurant scene, it has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The restaurant offers a variety of slurpable ramen bowls, such as Pork Belly Tonkotsu with Duck Egg Noodle and Vegetable Shoyu with Mushroom Dashi and Rice Noodle.
Food was truly delicious - haven't had a meal I enjoyed this thoroughly in a long time. We were smiling ear to ear from the first sip of broth. The Pork Tantanmen was particularly yummy! Our waiter, whose name I sadly didn't get, was energetic, welcoming, cheerful, and happy to help explain any of the dishes we weren't familiar with. The atmosphere is very laid back and informal, which honestly just adds to the ambiance of the place. Not cheap, but the servings reflect what you are paying, my partner and I both got two meals out of our ramen bowls. We will definitely be back for more whenever we are next in town.
Owen B — Google review
Bad Bones Ramen provides great food, ample service, and a wonderfully unique and refreshing atmosphere. The chicken shoyu was a delight. The portions were generous, the ingredients were fresh, and the presentation was lovely. It was easy to see the effort put into the dish. The service provided was more than sufficient. I never had to ask for a refill on my water, and the waiter checked in often enough without being a nuisance. There was plenty of seating available during dinner hours. The dining area was clean, well-lit, and pleasantly quiet, allowing for proper conversation. The decor was good, and the staff music taste was on point. The ceilings near the bathrooms are a bit low, especially if you're a taller person like myself. However, that's a given for most buildings in the downtown area. I absolutely can't recommend this place enough. Considering the steep decline in quality for most other dine-in restaurants, Bad Bones absolutely knocks it out of the park in comparison. I will be eating here again in the future.
Nick B — Google review
We definitely enjoyed our ramen here. We had the pork belly shoyu. The broth is well developed and pork belly and egg were perfect. The broth is a little rich, and sits heavier than most ramens. It’s a few tweaks away to go from good to great, in our opinion. Service was good. We could see them working in the kitchen, and it was clean how much attention and care was given to presentation and preparing each bowl fresh. It was definitely worth the wait.
Alyssa B — Google review
This is such a lovely spot, and I have to say, the staff was so friendly! We came down during the pedestrian mall, and had no trouble finding a spot to sit down at around 1PM. Everything was decorated nicely, and it was really clean too. We ordered almost right away and had some dumplings, which were honestly my favorite! And before we could even finish those, we had our main dish come out. The broth was absolutely amazing, and all the toppings were fresh and cooked really well. Our server was so kind, and the atmosphere was wonderful! We seen a few people pick up some orders too, so if you didn't want to eat in, that seems like a great option.
Amber K — Google review
Bad Bones Ramen has a cute and fun location that immediately catches your eye. The ambiance is lively and inviting, making it a great spot for a casual meal or a hangout with friends. The staff here are excellent—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. However, while the atmosphere and service shine, the ramen itself doesn't quite hit the mark. It's not bad, but it falls short of the high expectations set by the rather steep prices. For the cost, one would anticipate a more memorable culinary experience. If you’re looking for a fun spot with great service, Bad Bones Ramen is worth a visit, but ramen aficionados might find the quality doesn’t justify the price tag.
Kenneth G — Google review
Generous with meat Cooked to perfection pork belly and chicken kastu The broth is tasty but not too salty. Overall the food is authentic at the meatier side( better for Canadians) . Also it's presentable topped up with lots of healthy veggies. We found our ramen place in this city!
Shuai H — Google review
Over the last 2.5 years I’ve tried all of their main broths - Miso, Shoyu, Tantanmen, and Dirty shrimp. Initially, they were pretty good; however, recently all of them have been bland and lacking in flavour. It has been a constant let down in the past year. Ironically, as their quality of ramen constantly decreased, their prices continuously increased, and it gets harder and harder to justify the price of their unappetizing ramen. Noodle Nami on Rowan St. has arguably better ramen for ~$4-5 less. The one good thing Bad Bones has going for them are their side dishes - they are a great bang for your buck. All in all, if you’ve ever had half-decent ramen in another city, I’d recommend you skip out on Bad Bones for your ramen cravings in St. John’s.
Wooje C — Google review
Exceeded my expectations. We ordered the Pork Tantanmen and Pork Belly Shoyu. Both had plenty of pork and a good amount of noodles and vegetables. Also added the homemade hot sauce which was sweet and spicy. It's not quite traditional but was quite good. Service was good and efficient for having only one person on staff for the whole restaurant. Decor was familiar for a ramen restaurant with the menu on a wall chalkboard and benches along the wall and chairs on the other side. Would definitely recommend.

Rustic and old kinda of atmosphere, I didn't mind at first but when our booth was shaking everytime someone had to move or stand up, it was getting annoying. Food itself was good, not great, but for what it is, it does the job. Nothing too original or out of pocket, except the apple/bacon sandwich which was a good surprise, otherwise everything was pretty standard (or a bit below). Would not necessarily recommend this place unless you're in the region.
Martha M — Google review
We stopped in here on a whim while driving across the island. WOW, what a spot. I've never eaten anywhere with such a view. It's entirely worth it just for that. The food was good, too, and the service was prompt. It was much too hot to sit at about half the tables outside. So, we ended up having to move to a different table once it became available. I recommend snagging one of the shaded tables if you choose to sit out. Which I HIGHLY recommend

The best!! A short drive out of town you will find the most charming and worthwhile cafe! The Third Place has an amazingly unique menu, with some familiar favorites in place as well. The coffee drinks are just superb! While in town for business I went three different times, and still didn't have enough time to try all the food offerings I wanted to! The staff are helpful, very knowledgeable, and kind! You must go here! Also, they have a patio that faces the falls, just delightful.

Awesome hidden nice cafe to have lunch. The building looks bit dreadful but the moment you open the cafe door, it looks amazing. All furnitures are unique. We immediately love this place. They also have nice coffee, lunch, reading corner & stage for performing. It is a must visit place.

UPDATE: JULY 1, 2022 Today we returned to give this cafe a 2nd go, & there was some improvement from our last visit. Original post (a month prior) Very Disappointed with the service this morning at the new location. We went to have a nice light breakfast & a hot beverage. The sign says "please wait to be seated" which we did for 5 minutes before we sat ourselves to a table. There was no Beverage menu offered so when the server asked what we wanted to drink we didn't know what to order. The server said "well what do you want & I'll see if we got it". The same was said when we asked if there was any fresh baked good other than the one lonely cupcake & date square. There were no breakfast baked goods like fresh bagels, protein balls or muffins. Since we didn't have a beverage menu & the sever couldn't tell us what was available we just had coffee & hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was warm milk & a no name ice cream syrup mix which all settled at the bottom of the mug.

Absolutely delightful spot, and the food was phenomenal. Best nachos I can remember having in a long time.
Maggie B — Google review
A neat little place, the food was a bit overated however. In terms of their cold foods, I get the impression that the chef is trying to do something different with a variety of different flavor profiles all mashed up but there's a difference between a harmonious variety with tastes and textures that compliment one another and just a mash up of stuff that could be good individually.

Restaurant
Bernard Kavanagh's Million Dollar View Restaurant is a must-visit spot in Ferryland, especially if you're craving classic Newfoundland cuisine. Diners rave about the fish and chips, often touted as the best on the Irish Loop. The menu also features hearty appetizers like wings and seafood chowder, perfect for sharing. While indulging in delicious meals, guests are treated to stunning views of the bay—an experience made even more memorable by occasional whale sightings!
For appetizers, we had wings, seafood chowder, garlic bread with cheese (this was good!!!) and we each had the Kitchen Sink because we were mighty hungry. It came with a heap of fries. The fries alone in one order is good for people. Best to order one Kitchen Sink and do other items without fries. That way the fries aren’t wasted. Service was friendly, helpful and patient. It was a lot of fried food but we enjoyed our lunch here overall. We went in the middle of the afternoon so it wasn’t a busy time. It was a foggy and rainy day when we went so the view wasn’t the best on that day but we could only imagine how beautiful it could have been on a clear day.
Anna M — Google review
This was a lovely spot! It was a lucky find on our drive around the Irish loop! The ladies were so kind and helpful, and it felt like we were sitting down at our grandparents house for dinner. The food was delicious, and the view is second to none!
Amanda F — Google review
Take a moment to read this: Driving through the Irish Loop with the family, the four of us were excited to stop at the Million Dollar View Restaurant with decent reviews from Google. The views were indeed stunning, and we were pleasantly greeted by staff. The interior was okay. We ordered shrimp, calamari, scallops, the kitchen sink, chicken wings, and a burger. We awaited with excitement with stomachs rumbling. The shrimp and scallops were deep fried and came in a concession basket reminiscent of an old hockey rink. The calamari was deep fried. The entire contents of the kitchen sink were deep fried. The chicken wings were breaded and deep fried. Thankfully, the burger was not deep fried. We attempted to eat, but the million dollar view was overshadowed by the grease and we could eat hardly any of it. We left the majority of food on the table and asked for the bill. The amount of the bill symbolized a decent meal, which it was not. We departed the restaurant, took one last look at the million dollar view, and sped away, still hungry. Unless you like spending $177 on deep fried food, choose another restaurant with, sadly, a not-as-good view.
Voytek L — Google review
2.5 stars, service was kind, nice ocean view, food avg at best, bun on chicken burger seemed freezer burnt, tomato was mushy, homemade fries looked great but were dried out some how, cod was greasy, service was the only thing that kept visit a bit positive
Ty P — Google review
Best view in Canada and the food was excellent. The ladies are charming as well.
Chris B — Google review
We ordered a takeaway. The chowder, 1 piece fish and kitchen sink. Chowder and fish were very good. Unfortunately the kitchen sink was not up to our expectations. The shrimp was freezer burned and the scallop chewy and tasted fishy. Everything seemed stale and very oily. We threw it away.
V G — Google review
Shiela is the nicest person. So ultra friendly and really warm. She told us all about 'dressing and gravy' with fish and chips. Great and authentic NFL. Stunning view. Great seating outside on the clifftop if the black flies are not out, if they are great picture windows inside to look at the fab view too. Food is normal pub food. They sell beer and wine too. Would recommend and ask for Shiela.

Had the burger and fries wife had the scallops. Food quality is well below par unfortunately. The redeeming factors are the service and the view is spectacular.

Awesome experience on the Zodiac to see icebergs! Felt very safe with Kier & Stacey on board. Wonderful to hear the history and stories they shared. Best food I've had in Newfoundland. In addition to the pics shown I had a partridgeberry latte and wife had cloudberry tea. Both excellent. Wonderful ambiance and views as well. Go here when you visit viking spot or do whale/iceberg tours. Nice gift shop downstairs as well.

We had an amazing multi-level experience with this company. We did an iceberg excursion, shopped in the locally focused gift shop and ate in the cafe. I highly reccomend doing all three. The tour was fantastic and shared a lot of local knowledge. It was also very safe, we were provided with flotation suits. The vage was delicious and has a great mix of breakfast, lunch, alcohol beverages and speciality coffees/teas. Make sure to try the homemade ice cream and screech tea!

My wife and I (celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary) took the zodiac iceberg tour on a morning in late May. We were fortunate enough to have the boat all to ourselves. The people working at Dark Tickle could not have been friendlier and made us feel very welcome. We had Varrick (and Alexia!) as our guides on the zodiac tour and it was perfect. Not only did we get to see a variety of icebergs (that were stunning!) but we saw a variety of marine life and learned of the history and cultures of the surrounding area. I can’t recommend them enough and will probably return with my Dad and brother somewhere down the line! Thanks so much Varrick and the folks at Dark Tickle! Ps. If you have the time hit the Nymphe Cafe after your tour!

Came in on a whim to try "The Sculpin Cone" which we did and were very happy with, but while we were enjoying our ice cream we got food envy from the other patrons and decided to try the fish cakes ... we were so grateful we did! A delicious, generous portion for a very reasonable price and the dark tickle partridgeberry relish was such an amazing flavor on the plate. We've fallen in love with this place and its Newfoundland hospitality. Highly recommended!

The ice cream (and other food) is excellent. But I would skip the fish cone. It's more like cake and takes away from the ice cream, which is SO GOOD. Just so big scoops in a cup.

Nestled within the lush surroundings of Murray's Garden Centre, The Grounds Cafe in Portugal Cove-St. Philips is a hidden gem that has captured the hearts of many. This charming cafe boasts a modern aesthetic with soaring cathedral ceilings adorned with hanging plants and vibrant local artwork, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for relaxation. Whether you're stopping by for a delightful weekend brunch or enjoying an afternoon coffee paired with delectable pastries, The Grounds Cafe offers something special for everyone.
The Grounds Cafe is a fantastic spot for breakfast or brunch. I find that the place is bright and spacey however, seats are limited. They have a small menu but they're all delicious with fair prices. The staff is friendly however note that this place is a self serve kind of place, so you'd have to clean up your own table, especially if the previous diners left their own dirty dishes. Not sure if that's suppose to be like that but regardless we had a great time in this restaurant and we'll for sure to come back when we can.

Great cafe for brunch! Tried the bagel sandwich and it was delicious! Coffee was great as well. Only thing they are missing is an espresso machine to have more variety of coffee beverages. Didn’t try any sweets but they looked amazing! Can’t wait to go back and try some more things on the menu

We visited Ground Murray’s Café in Portugal Cove about a month ago and really enjoyed the atmosphere—it’s such a nice and cozy spot. We ordered the strawberry flaky, cheesecake, the Ground omelette, and two dark roast coffees. The food was tasty and fresh, and the cheesecake was a real highlight! The only thing we found a little disappointing was the coffee selection. They only serve brewed coffee (self-serve with milk, cream, or sugar), so I couldn’t get a latte, which I would have preferred. For the price, it would be nice to see more coffee options on the menu. Overall, it’s a lovely place to stop by, with great food and a welcoming vibe.

Beautiful coffee house with a beautiful ocean view. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Polite service. Well I hate to leave a negative review and I didn’t think I would judging by the look of this place. Very cute cafe, lots of seating, a nice big patio, and a wonderful view. Unfortunately the coffee/food did not live up to the expectations. My iced latte tasted way more like milk than coffee and the flat white tasted a bit like old coffee grounds. The grilled cheese was decent but a bit overpriced considering the portion size and the sides that were provided. However, I think if they up their coffee/food game a bit more this place could be special!

The space and people were nice but the coffee was extremely acidic, tasted burnt, and the steamed milk was just warm milk, no steam or froth at all. Very disappointed but bad coffee in a “coffee house” is hard to look past. As for the food the grilled cheese was fine but small and the side of chips, pickle, and carrot was nice but it couldn’t make up for the coffee. When it comes to grilled cheese I am a fan of the original cheese + bread combo so I wasn’t blown away by their addition of pesto, tomato, bacon, etc. to the sandwich. It wasn’t bad tho, just not necessary. It is totally possible that my bad coffee was an anomaly in which case disregard this review. Guess I’ll have to give it another shot sometime 🤷

The place is decorated beautifully. Great day to sit out on the patio and enjoy the view. The food was reasonably priced and very tasty. The server did not know what a macchiato was. Instead settled for a latte that was not incredible. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I would definitely come here again but probably just try the drip coffee.

We were back in Clarenville area today so we stopped by Bare Mountain Coffee and enjoyed a Blueberry Scone and a lemonade. My wife had cheesecake and coffee, my daughter had Hot Chocolate and a Blueberry Scone and her BF had latte. As usual the food was delicious and the service great. It was warm so we sat in the Adirondack Chairs on the deck overlooking the Ocean. Exceptional local business offering great food and service in a restored home on the water right in Clarenville.

Best coffee so far. It was so creamy and delicious. We ordered iced latte and hot soy latte. It’s worth of a trip! Great view and super Friendly staff!!

The place itself was beautiful and great view of the ocean. The food was tasty but the coffee and tea could improve. My wife had a $4.25 chai tea latte however the tea bag was from superstore. The coffee was weak and size of the cup was very small.

When visiting the Bonavista peninsula, a must-stop destination is Oh My Cheeses, the on-site food truck at Port Rexton Brewing. Originally starting at St. Johns Farmers Market and still present there, Oh My Cheeses has gained popularity by offering unique grilled cheese sandwiches like The Violet with blueberry jam, bacon, aged cheddar cheese, basil and balsamic glaze.
Not a grilled cheese fan, but Oh My Cheeses changed my mind! The cheese was fantastic, the bread toasted well, and the blueberry jam was the perfect sweetness. I am now a grilled cheese fan! They were also quick to fill your order and had a nice place to sit.

Great grilled cheese sandwiches and fries and poutine varieties. Great complement to the excellent beer at the brewery. Save room, these are hefty portions!
Chris M — Google review
The name of this food truck lives up to its billing as their gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches are delicious! My family enjoyed our tasty lunch on the picnic tables in front of the truck, as we sampled some of their different sandwiches. As for drinks, we ordered some from the Port Rexton Brewing Co., which is located next door.

We went to the book fair at the old metrobus station on Freshwater Road. We decided to grab some lunch. I had the gull island (partridgeberry and brie). She had the cupids (old cheddar and blue berry ). Both were super tasty. Both were reasonably priced. I highly recommend going out of your way to go grab a sandwich there or anywhere they pop up :)
Michael S — Google review
Grilled cheeses were incredible - soo many options but our favourite was the Gull Island (brie and partridgeberry on sourdough). Poutine was delicious and the street fries were also great - they came with green onion, cilantro and spicy mayo.
Mahdi G — Google review
Rather expensive grilled cheese. Expect to pay $9.25 to $14.00 for a sandwich with no sides. Parking problems. (There is very little, and the neighbours are clearly annoyed judging by the signage.) This is a trailer operating outside the bar. Seating is limited. It was clearly popular. Great paging system for when your order is ready. I had the Hot Mess sandwich and the Street Fries. Wouldn't order the street fries again. The Hot Mess was nice, but I didn’t leave full after spending $24. But it was a nice stop. The staff were friendly. We had a seat at one of the picnic tables outside in a nice evening breeze. I don't regret trying the place out.
Barrett D — Google review
The grilled cheese at Oh My Cheeses was absolutely delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the cheese was gooey and satisfying. However, I did encounter a minor issue with the service. The buzzer system for letting customers know their food is ready seemed to malfunction after 15 minutes, leading to a slightly longer wait than expected. It would be helpful if staff could communicate this information upfront to avoid confusion. Overall, I would definitely recommend Oh My Cheeses for their delicious grilled cheese, but I hope they can improve their service to provide an even better experience for customers. Oh My Cheeses, located within the charming Quidi Vidi Brewery, is a must-visit for cheese lovers in St. John's. This popular food truck offers a delicious and diverse menu featuring creative grilled cheese sandwiches. From the classic to the daring, there's something to satisfy every palate. Menu Highlights: The Classic: A simple yet satisfying combination of cheddar cheese and butter on sourdough bread. The Bacon Jam: A savory twist with bacon jam, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions. The Caprese: A Mediterranean-inspired delight featuring mozzarella, tomato, basil, and balsamic glaze. The Spicy: A fiery option with jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and a spicy mayo spread. The Vegan: A plant-based treat with vegan cheese, roasted vegetables, and a tangy sauce. Enjoy with Your Furry Friend: Quidi Vidi Brewery's patio is dog-friendly, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious grilled cheese sandwich and a refreshing beer with your furry companion.

Unique menu that offers plenty of appealing items that can be customized for vegetarians. The Gull Island (partridgeberry and brie) was absolutely delicious. The bread had a grilled flavor and was toasted just right, the jam was soo yummy. The cheese was perfectly melty. The atmosphere was fun, cozy, hipster, local vibes. This place is a MUST.

The Nook and Cannery, located in the old Big R location on Harvey Road, seamlessly blends into its surroundings. Chef Amy Anthony's ever-changing menu features sandwiches with jammy eggs, comforting soups, Asian-influenced grain bowls, and messy fries. A must-try is the Trini Doubles - a fusion of Newfoundland and Trinidadian cuisines using curry-yellowed toutons filled with black beans, chickpeas, zucchini, and pickled shallots.
Loved the space with all the colours, the charm of staff greeting and serving us. One of the best meals in St. John's with great creative vegetarian options. We shared two dishes: Glory bowl made of seasoned fried marinated tofu, puffed rice, cherry tomatoes, seared broccoli and kale with picked sweet onion and Poached Pear with fennel and goat cheese salad. Note that their updated menu is on their Facebook page. Their butterfly pea flower and rhubarb lemonade was quite nice and refreshing. Make sure you stop by here before or after visiting The Rooms.
Titka S — Google review
The Nook and Cannery feels like a homely place. The food feels fresh, rich, flavourful and made with care, complimenting the decor and atmosphere of the place. Many of their dishes have a touch of fusion, combining elements from different parts of the world, and it's done well in my opinion. They'll also ask you about elements you'd like to exclude/include in a dish, and if not, feel free to ask them. Lot of gluten-free options! They also have a lot of pretty and tasty baked goods. Had my friend invite us here because he loves the place, and after visiting, "Will definitely come back again!" felt like a hearty and honest review of the place. Prices are alright - even if it feels slightly on the higher side, the portions are adequate. When we visited on a Saturday evening, the place wasn't that crowded.

I’ve eaten here numerous times and have loved every bite. The food is delicious, fresh, interesting and hearty and will fill you up. Salads and bowls are a feast for your eyes too. Definitely a must if you’re in St. John’s! It’s a tiny place so go early to beat the lines - cause you know a place with a line up means good things inside.

Nook and Cannery is our favourite spot in the city. Amazing and nourishing food with lots of options for everyone. There’s finally a place in the city where the gluten free (celiac) vegetarian can eat with friends and family and everyone gets what they want! We cannot say enough good about this place and how important they are to the community.
Kelsey P — Google review
One of the more creative diners in town. Great food, flexible for gluten free options, vegan or vegetarian. I still go for the chicken or meat options but haven’t had a bad meal here. The popcorn chicken that I had last time was fun and tasty. The pot stickers were also great. Highly recommended.

Megan and crew have nice energy and seem to enjoy working with each other. Creates a nice atmosphere. Really liked the varied menu options. Husband liked the large portion. Lots of flavor to their dishes. LGBTQ+ friendly eatery. Sitting by door was not the best option at this time of year. All else was great.

I've been here five times now and have had excellent experiences every time. Excellent service and food. Great atmosphere with nan-chic decor and good music vibes. A wonderfully queer-friendly space, I can't recommend this place enough. It's honestly my favourite spot in town.

Excellent spot for a healthy hearty lunch. I had the glory bowl and oh my goodness it was...glorious. the sauce was incredible. Tofu done perfectly. A wonderful assortment of perfectly prepped veggies to go with it. My husband had the black bean burger and fries which were amazing. We often have trouble finding good vegan food when we travel but this place hits the spot and has many vegan options. Our server was delightful as well. We ordered one of each of their vegan pastries to go and had them for breakfast the next morning. I don't know how they make their vegan puff pastry but I'm going to be asking for the recipe next time.

The menu changes based on garden availability, offering a variety of fresh flavors such as pizzas, soups, sandwiches, and salads.

Tasty food make from local ingredients, including a variety of pizzas by the slide made in their awesome brick oven. Pizza and baked goods are already made and ready when you order, served on paper plates, making for quick and friendly service. Dining outdoors in the sunroom is a warm and sunny experience. Food 3.5 stars, other 4.5 stars — overall 4 stars.

1. Good meals and snacks, interesting place to visit. Small restaurant so can get quite busy during peak tourist season. 2. Visited again, great food and service. PLEASE bring back the moose burger :( Recommended if you’re in the area!

I happened across Bonavista while I was travelling across Newfoundland. While having dinner in Deer Lake, a local bartender suggested we go out of our way on our drive to St John’s to try this place out. Glad to say, this was probably the highlight of the trip! They have a garden where they grown their own vegetables, the location is very serene and intimate. If you’re lucky, you can even spot some whales if luck is on your side. This will forever serve as a core memory!

Excellent personal pizzas. Lobster asparagus pasta was very expensive for the portion size but delicious. Desserts were excellent. Beautiful location with views of whales from the dining area. We took out and ate back at our camp site.
Chris S — Google review
We had a wonderful time here and the food was fresh and tasty. The lobster pasta was to die for. It was our anniversary and they put a sparkler in our dessert. Servers were very friendly and helpful. The view from the enclosed patio makes it extra special.

A bit of a drive over some rough roads to get there, yet they have fantastic food with top shelf service (thanks Lori). The brick oven pizza was fabulous with a wonderful atmosphere. It was worth the short wait to be able to sit outside to eat after we had our appetizers. We had ceasar salad, parsnip soup (amazing), awesome individual pizzas, carrot cake, and partridge berry bread pudding. You also never know who will drop in as we saw Mark Critch (the Canadian comedian and actor) and Jeremy Charles, the chef from Raymond's (one of the top 5 restaurants in Canada). We highly appreciate the experience that we received as we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the atmosphere as well.

Lottie's Place is a popular bar in downtown Halifax that offers great music, friendly staff and no cover charge. It's a great place to come for a drink or for some fun night out with friends.
I've been going to Lottie's every time I've been to Newfoundland for the past 20 years. Nothing says 'I've arrived' on George Street like a White Russian in a plastic cup! Beyond friendly service, and everyone having a great time. This bar is most definitely a stand out, and worth it just to even chat with the bartenders (assuming it's not past 10 pm on Thu / Fri / Sat). A must-visit.

Staff are on edge and have 0 people skills , they need to hire people with life experience rather than people who have barely left school. They have just lost 10 people's order , hope the owner can afford it , seems to be every week this . Maybe some training is in order.

I tried to go into Lotties today and was just pointed at to exit the door by the older female bartender. I didn’t even step foot into the bar before nor anything. I was just trying to enjoy one of their specialty White Russians, I would’ve given a better review, I had tons of money to spend in there and everything, I guess it’s cause I’m a little darker skinned or something but I don’t like how they just did that towards me.

YellowBelly Brewery is a brewpub located in a historic building in St. John's, Newfoundland. It has been a key player in the island's craft beer scene since its opening in 2008. The brewery offers house craft beers and serves wood-fired pizzas and burgers, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Additionally, YellowBelly Brewery provides brewery tours for those interested in learning about the beer-making process.
Had an amazing time at YellowBelly Brewery in St. John's! The atmosphere is unique—historic building, cozy vibe, and great downtown location. I tried a couple of their house beers, and they were excellent—fresh, flavorful, and just the right balance. The food was also top-notch; the wood-fired pizza really stood out. Staff were friendly and made great recommendations. Definitely a place I'd come back to, whether for a casual drink or a full meal.
Volodymyr S — Google review
It's a bit crammed, even upstairs but it is better upstairs. Everything (chairs, table, floor etc.,) was a little sticky though which was uncomfortable. However, the beer is good and they have quite the variety. I got their signature fish and chips and the fish is really fresh as you'd expect from Newfoundland but I would've preferred a bit more seasoning especially since it's supposed to be herb-crusted. The tartar sauce seems to be made in house and really carried the dish. I'd have it again ☺️ but I'm still looking for the best fish and chips in St. John's
Tiffany C — Google review
First night in St. John’s I had to try this place. It was top of my wish list and the food did not disappoint. Started with a dip that was amazing, cream cheese, green onion, bacon and chips. Then we shared a two piece fish and chips. They knew we were sharing so that spilt it onto two plates for us. The fish was so good, light, flaky, the coating was not greasy. The fries were hand cut and really good too. The dipping sauce with the fries was a nice touch. The waitress recommended a really good beer that fit my needs. It was really busy so service was a little slow but with the amount of people it was understandable.

I just happened upon this place. Its a local brewpub. A great selection of beers. A very nice menu. Staff is friendly. It's just a cool brewpub to come have a beer and or some food. They have two happy hours. 3 to 5 and 10 to close! Gotta love it! I'm here for work and took drive downtown and found Yellowbelly! Glad I did!!! I ordered the wood fired pepperoni pizza! Another... "Glad I did!"

I booked a table in advance to come here. The place is very popular! We were in the old hall, where there were still traces of a big fire. It creates an atmosphere. If you want a noisier atmosphere, book a table in the main hall. The food is very tasty, but we came for the beer, which they brew themselves. There is a lot to choose from. Thank you.
Yuliia — Google review
One of our go to restaurants when in St.john’s. I always order the braised short rib, and it never disappoints. So much flavour, beef is literally falling off the bone! Pair it with Wexford Wheat beer, you’ll be glad you did. Be sure you ask to be seated in the Underbelly, the more secluded area downstairs.
Jeff B — Google review
I discovered this historic brewery through their website and decided to pay a visit—and it did not disappoint. Their beers are exceptional, even surpassing what I’ve tried in Toronto. I ordered the YYT Cream Ale, which had a uniquely distinctive aroma that stood out. As for the food, the salt and vinegar cod bites and the seafood chowder are must-tries. After all, you can’t visit Newfoundland without enjoying its renowned seafood.

Oliver's Restaurant is a contemporary neighborhood eatery located on Water Street, offering a cozy and intimate atmosphere for diners. The restaurant features leather booths and banquettes, creating a relaxing ambiance to enjoy a variety of dishes. Whether it's brunch favorites like breakfast banana splits and eggs benedict or evening staples such as seafood pasta, portobello mushroom wellington, and lamb shank, Oliver's has something for everyone.
We had the best dinner to celebrate our friend’s birthday at Oliver’s Restaurant. We had the most amazing experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, washroom was clean, and the music was very pleasant. The service was excellent, our server Cecilia was super sweet, very friendly and knowledgeable. We definitely had the best moment because of her, and she was the only server + bartender, and we never felt that we were missing attention even if the place was half full. Now the food, it was just delicious, we ordered: - Lemon pepper Calamari - Local Mussels - Seafood platter - Balsamic chicken fettuccine - a Daily special that was a halibut on top of risotto with Brie cheese, so delicious! All the food was amazing, we shared all for 4 people and we were more than full. The table favourites were the risotto and the fettuccine. Also bread and maple butter was provided and was perfect, warm and whipped butter on a fresh baguette, yummy ! We also received a special dessert to celebrate our friend birthday and we were so amazing about the amazing chocolate brownie and the caramel cheesecake, we will definitely come back for more !

Everything was great! The restaurant was clean, with a cozy and comfortable seating area. The staff and servers were kind, friendly, and welcoming. The food was reasonably priced, with generous portions and good quality. The only issue for me personally was the salt level — the food was a bit too salty for my taste. If you're someone who enjoys more salt in your meals, it might be fine for you, but I found it a bit overwhelming. In my opinion, restaurant food should be seasoned more moderately, since customers have different preferences. You can always add more salt, but you can’t take it out. Because of this, I wouldn’t recommend it for people with high blood pressure or salt sensitivity — even though the food was really delicious. Personally, due to my sensitivity to salt, I probably wouldn’t go back.

We had a wonderful experience at Oliver’s Restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the cozy atmosphere and courteous service made us feel welcome and relaxed. I ordered the halibut over risotto, and my partner had the seafood platter —both dishes were absolutely delicious. I also tried the Seafood chowder, which turned out to be one of the best meals we've had in Newfoundland. We were a bit tired of eating m fried food - which unfortunately you find a lot in the suburb- so we were thrilled to find such flavorful and well-prepared options. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a refined yet comfortable dining experience.

We had a wonderful time at Oliver’s, our server Danielle was great and very helpful. One person in our group had a celiac allergy and they were very accommodating. She could eat everything except for the chowder. We had just flown into St. John’s and it was the perfect place to go. The food was amazing.

From being greeted so nicely to the absolutely amazing food. Great experience. Both of our meals were incredible, great portion size and so fresh. Our waitress was wonderful and very friendly. Welcomed us so nicely. We enjoyed it so much we may have it at least one more time on our trip.
Amelie D — Google review
The food is good but not great. We orders the Oliver Salad, which was by far the best thing we ordered and it is a great salad that we shared. We ordered the Korean Duck Wings. This is a dish orders might think is unique and great tasting. It did not taste like duck, the BBQ sauce slightly overwhelmed the duck taste. We shared the Seafood Platter for a main course. It was average with the scallops overcooked. Many menu items are ambitious so would I come back? Yes I would but without improvement, no more for me. The service here is excellent among the best we had in NL.

We travelled from Calgary to St, Johns for a short visit and stopped in this restaurant for a dinner. We had fettuccini with mussels and shrimps. Highly recommended, food is tasteful, great portion and reasonable price. Staff are very friendly, great customer service from the waitresses. I also met the chef Omaima where I appreciated her magic hands on preparing such a delicious food. We will definitely come back again.

Had the chowder and pan-fried cod, both were absolutely amazing! The cod was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Definitely a must-try for a true taste of Newfoundland cuisine. The service was okay, it wasn’t bad, but it felt a bit rushed and less attentive than expected. Still, the food made up for it. Would go back for the chowder alone!
