We were excited to try Cafe One Love because of its strong social media presence, but it turned out to be the only bad dining experience of our 10-day trip across Sri Lanka. • Food safety issues: The fish in the fish-and-chips smelled rotten and was clearly off, we took a single bite and stopped for fear of food poisoning. Chicken nuggets were undercooked and pink inside. The devilled chicken was also undercooked, while the garlic bread came out burnt. • Poor handling of feedback: We ordered tacos after the waiter specifically promised a hard shell. He brought soft shells, and when we mentioned it, he simply took the food back and over-fried them until the tacos were dripping in oil. • Service attitude: When the four of us raised these concerns, the waiter ignored our points and arrogantly put the blame on us, even suggesting we had ordered too much and were complaining just to lower the bill. Every other restaurant we visited in Sri Lanka was hospitable and served excellent food. This cafe was the lone exception. The only impressive thing about Cafe One Love seems to be its marketing. Strong online buzz lured us here, but the reality was severely disappointing. If you value food safety and respectful service, give this place a miss.

🌟 The gluten-free pizza was absolutely amazing, and the quinoa salad was great too—just could’ve used a bit more quinoa 😄 Our first visit was a bit challenging because the waiter didn’t quite understand us, but the second time we had Kavi and Neela, who were the sweetest and most attentive servers ever. They understood us right away! If you have any sensitivities or special requests, I definitely recommend speaking with them. Overall, the owner is super friendly, and the place itself is beautiful with a fun, relaxed vibe. Highly recommended!

We had a great experience at Café One Love. Staff was super nice and the food was amazing, especially the turkish pizza which is one of the best pizza we ever ate. We came back the next day to eat it again! Brownie was also to die for. The restaurant in itself is very cute and cozy.

My burger was 4 out of 5, the bolognese 5 out of 5. Drinks are good 😊🙌 I defo would recommend the place. You can pay by card, no language barrier. Also good choice for vegetarians.

We went to Cafe One Love and really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is great, there is nice music but not too loud. There are a lot of seat possibilities, but it remains cozy and chill. Saman was a great waiter who was very friendly and attentive. Happy hour arrack attack drinks delicious. Food was great, as vegetarians we enjoyed the egg fried rice in pineapple and the vegetable roti! Pizza was also tasty. Live music was nice in the background. Recommend for a dinner in Ella :)

We were served by a lovely gentleman Daniel. He was very helpful in everyway from the moment we walked into 360. He came regularly to check everything was good, food served was very quick and tasted lovely. He maintained our table to an exceptionally high standard. Great location in Ella on the main strip. Live music however proper pub singer! One of the busier spots on the strip. Food was pretty standard for a bar…ordered the steak sub and butter chicken. Bread and rice were very dry. Good selection of drinks tho. Service was ok nothing amazing tbh

Me and my husband had a lovely dinner with amazing love music. Our personal steward was Daniel was a great host, who invited us during a walk in town, and when we visited during dinner remembered us, and offered a great service, with pleasant conversation. Once he knew we were on our honeymoon, he also asked the band to play two of songs of our request. The food was amazing, best butter chicken I tasted! The pizza was also pretty good. And we loved the happy hour offer on cocktails. Definitely the place to enjoy a good dinner with great music, and impeccable service!

After a few days of eating local food in more traditional spots, we were craving something more international like pizza or burgers. This place looked great and it did not disappoint at all! 🍕 The Neapolitan style wood-fired pizzas were delicious, so good that we came back the very next day. We also tried the crispy chicken burger and it was honestly the juiciest chicken we’ve had in the whole country. Usually it’s overcooked and dry, but here it was perfectly cooked and really tender. Service was super friendly and fast. Special thanks to our waiter Pradeep who looked after us both times. Definitely recommend!

We went to The Barn for dinner and got Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Pepperoni Pizza. Both were really good! The mocktails were also delicious. The place had a really fun vibe with amazing live singing; the singer had a beautiful voice! The staff were super helpful and courteous. We went back the following morning for some coffee and asked if they had any breakfast item with oatmeal for our baby. The server showed us muesli mentioned on the menu but it was a big portion so we requested if a baby-sized portion of plain oats could be made. Not only did the server get the oatmeal ready for our baby, he also refused to take the payment for it, saying that it was for the baby and we don’t need to pay! Such a sweet gesture by an amazing gentleman (we forgot to ask his name!). Hats off to the servers at this place. Will definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Ella. P.S. They serve halal chicken, which was a big plus for us!

We stopped here for a quick drink break and tried the Café Mocha and Frozen Strawberry Margarita. The mocha was good, similar to other cafés in Ella, but the margarita really stood out—refreshing and perfect for a sunny daytime drink. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The atmosphere is relaxed, though since it’s located by the roadside you may hear some vehicle noise. If you prefer a quieter spot, you can sit inside or on the rooftop (inside the cafe - covered space), which has a nice vibe. During the day, it’s less crowded and a great place to sit and spend time, while at night it becomes quite lively with more people. Overall, it’s a popular café worth visiting, and I’d love to come back next time I’m in Ella.

Came here the second time during my stay in Ella and tried the amazing Pizza - if you crave some in between western food, thats your place to go to. The staff is super fast, polite and attentive. We ate here several times during our stay in Ella. Everything ordered was outstanding, highly recommend if you are passing. The waffles with banana and butterscotch were amazing for breakfast or brunch! Great coffee too. The atmosphere was very chilled and the staff were exceptional. We even had a few beers one of the night when the had live music playing. Definitely worth a stop!!

We had our lunch at the rooftop restaurant. I can give 10 out of 10 for the location. We ordered pizza, fried Cashewnuts and mix meat platter. We ordered the mix platter cost Rs 6,500 for two persons. But it enough for 4 persons. Worth for money. Cocktails also good. I highly recommend this place for both locals and foreigners.

Food is a hit and miss. We ordered 2 sandwiches - both lacking flavour and very oily. We also ordered a fish and chips which was fine - although not close to traditional, and a veg kottu which was good. The cafe also had a lot of flies and was difficult to enjoy our visit.

We went here for breakfast and the food was not good, especially based on the price. I had the yogurt and fruit with french toast. The fruit used appeared to be from a tin, with the syrup causing the yoghurt to be less thick and watery. The french toast did not have a good flavour. My partner got the omelette which has a fishy taste to it. Coffee was also not great. Overall we would not recommend.

Staff is attentive and lovely. We had avocado toast and fruit smoothie bowls, accompanied by lotus flower tea and The sky meets sea tea. All was perfectly presented and delicious. Also,ordering the cake of the day helps to support local street dog, today it was an amazing vegan chocolate. When paying for the bill we thanked them for the great food and service, and the reply was so heartwarming, they said, in summary, that as long as the customers were happy they were happy 😊

Had a really good experience at Rainbow Café in Ella. We tried koththu and nachos for dinner and went back for lunch and had fried rice, everything was super flavorful, and the portion sizes were much bigger than we expected, especially for a place in Ella. The staff were genuinely kind and attentive, and the manager, Jason, made us feel really welcomed from the moment we arrived. They also cater to different dietary needs with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices, which was nice to see. The place has a cozy atmosphere, but it fills up quite fast. So going a bit early or booking ahead might be a good idea. Would definitely recommend stopping by.

We visited this place after reading several positive reviews about their pizza, hoping to take a break from eating rice or noodles. I’d love to know where those who left glowing reviews about this pizza actually ate theirs. Now, as a local guide, I feel obligated to be objective, honest, and fair to prevent others from being misled. The pizza was genuinely disappointing—the crust was crispy, but the ingredients were of very low quality, and the flavors had nothing to do with what pizza should taste like. As for the service, it was a mess. The waiter struggled to understand us and seemed completely confused. It took half an hour to get our first beer despite asking multiple times, and I even had to request napkins myself. Every time, he’d just say, 'You’re right, sir.' I mean, if you’re doing a job, do it well—should I really have to tell you what’s needed to set a table? The first bottled beer arrived warm, so we switched to a canned one, which was slightly better. The only positive thing about this place is the unique atmosphere—comfortable seating on big couch-like beds. In the end, we paid 14,000 rupees, about €50, for three pizzas and two beers—a ridiculous price for the location, food quality, and service. To sum it up, we won’t be coming back. .

Lovely quiet spot away from the town. Chilled atmosphere with big comfy sofas and a pool table. The younger waiters struggled a little but Mano is attentive and friendly. We had the potato and red bean burgers which were yummy. We would come back!

Upper floor dining offered a wonderful experience due to the views of Welimada plateau, surrounding mountain range from Haputale to Rahangala. Also the beautiful view of the Haputale railway station and the trains moving in front of the cafe. Food portions and the taste were average. Overall a good experience.

Stopped by for a latte and some cake. The latte was lovely, but the cake lacked flavour. It was coloured with some weird pink food dye, which literally made me look like Count Dracula! I also think the food colour contains saccharine, hence the lack of flavour. On a positive note, the staff were super friendly and happily recommended places for me to visit. If you are looking for a real good taste of tea, then this is a must go. Located at the center of Ella. The Ceylon Tea Centre has different teas available which also you can try before buying them. The seller who is Madushankar is a well-experienced for the tea in its health benefits and right preparation which affects the overall taste of the tea. Something I learned there. So I bought their Greentea & Infused Soursoup Greentea which are their best sellers. White tea as well.

The worst shopping experience in Sri Lanka. PLEASE DO NOT SHOP HERE! The same products are the most expensive in the entire country! Even the airport is cheaper than here! 🙄🙄🙄 We bought a red box with elephant pictures on it, and the store sold it for LKR 6,000. But another place sold it for only LKR 2,400. At the airport, it was USD 18. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 We spent 10 days in Sri Lanka and passed through many cities. The cheapest price was in Galle. Even other cities are not as expensive as that.🙄

Most of the teas with "fruit" flavour are just black tea with perfume, smell very intense and absolutly fantastic in your nose but after put them in hot water that's just blacktea.

Kalindu helped me select the right teas as I didn’t have much knowledge on the difference. He even let me try a few teas before I bought them which I really appreciated. The tea is definitely high quality and Kalindu helped educate me on which temperature to steep and for how long. Also really affordable pricing! These would make for great gifts for friends and family back home. I’m really happy I came to this tea shop in Ella and highly recommend.

We had a wonderful private cooking class with Ayesha and her mom. During 2h we cooked 10 local dishes and learned about Sri Lankan food, cooking & habits. All in cosy open tarrace kitchen where we enjoyed later on what we have prepared. It was an interesting cultural experience (try hand coconut grater!) which we would definitely recommend!

We had delicious food and lassi there and we also went on two day trips to Udawalawe and Yala National parks organised by Coco! Both trips were super well organised and we were provided with great breakfast and snacks! The driver was so nice and punctual. We didn’t need to think about anything else and enjoyed the parks and the animals! All the people at Coco were super nice, welcoming and kind! We highly recommend this place, their food and all the activities/services they offer!

We had a cooking class with Ayesha and her mother and it was great. We had fun while cooking and they even gave us a small language class! The cooking class consists of cutting, mixing and cooking several Sri Lankan dishes. Such as coconut roti, coconut sambol, chicken curry and more. You do the cutting, Ayesha and her mother do the spicing & actual cooking. The amount of food that is cooked is so much that you can take it home in a doggy bag. Strongly recommend going here, ask for the recipes afterwards so you can cook it at home!

At 5 min from the train station, this guesthouse is ideally located. The owners can help you to rent motorcycles, at good price, then you can go at Nine Arches or Little Adam’s Peak in about 30 minutes from the hotel. The atmosphere is so chill and the breakfast was delicious !

We did breakfast at this place, food was great and serving was also decent size (not that you eat and still feel hungry). Breakfast for 2 was coat around $10 (LKR 2900) Ruwantha is very kind person, he took us a trip to 9 arches bridge for $10 (LKR 3000) and showed us how they pluck the tea leaves on return.

Amazing food, great staff and awesome atmosphere!! We stayed up the road and often found ourselves here: working on our laptops (good free WIFI & power outlets), eating (good price range starting at roughly 500lkr - must try any of their roti sweet or savoury! Also their brownie), and just relaxing with the chill music (couches, tables, egg chairs, daybeds, verandah). We were here during the off season so it was a really nice relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The staff were super friendly & helpful (helped us with train times, local recommendations, even leant us an umbrella to take home one night).

Great location and well thought out place. They just know the basics a traveller needs. Everything in this place was carefully selected to create the vibe it has. Common areas were big, had plenty of couches and chairs. Rooms were comfy, beds were comfy and bathrooms were clean and in very good working condition. The water filter and the fridge they had were pretty handy additions you can't get in many places. Guys at the hostel were mighty helpful. They took their time to explain us how to get buses to far away towns. Overall, highly recommend this place

We had lunch here 3 times during our stay in Ella, we just had to keep coming back. Delicious food and great service.

Try to avoid this place if you value your time. Had to wait an hour to get all our food. I.e. a plate of pasta and two smoothie bowls. I mean how long should it take to make a smoothie? A group of tourists were quite frustrated that they canceled and left. The prices too were too much for the small portions they give. They've got a very nice spot with good parking, but couldn't be seated in their loft area that had comfortable seats because their A/C was apparently broken, so had to shift to the iron chairs in the next level. The toilets are outside and not maintained well. The only plus was their coffee: tasted good and got it 10 mins within ordering. So, go there only for their coffee.

May be the worst coffee shop in this area. We orders a cappuccino and a hot chocolate. Cappuccino was juat a milk tea which was cost Rs.800 and hot chocolate was just a sugar solution which was cost Rs.950. When we discussed with the boy who prepre drinks for us., we could know he is not a qualified person for this subject.So it's better to hire a well-qualified person for such creative things rather than spoilling the name of the country. Washrooms also very unpleasant due to unclenliness.

Most items on the menu and display were not available. Tea pot had two Wijaya tea bags on hotwater, tasted almost like water 💦 Cups were very dirty and when we asked for fresh cups they washed the same ones. +View from the location is good -Food service and facilities are below bad 😔 Wash rooms were almost unusable and not maintained Overall avoid the place at all costs.

We made a stop here on our way to Ella. At the time we were here, there was no food available. We ordered coffee but I received the wrong one and not the one I ordered originally. I got double espresso even though I ordered cappuccino. The view was worth every second of it and that's why the 4 stars. Otherwise 2 stars.

We stopped here for a quick bite on one of our day tours. Good pizza with fresh ingredients, quick and friendly service plus you get a pretty decent view of the valley.

The Sri Lankan breakfast is SO delicious. So much flavour! It made my day. The coffee is also delicious, and can do takeout too. I kept coming back. Especially since the cafe is so beautiful. But mainly because of how tasty the breakfasts are, perfect portion size too.

Had breakfast at Kiri Kopi and it was such a vibe! The place is super chill with white sand and bean bag, definitely something different and fun. Tried the hot chocolate, which was pretty good, and a passion fruit juice that came without sugar (probably to keep it natural), but honestly, it wasn’t my thing. For food, the creamy mushroom with waffles was a win, so tasty! But the gluten-free pancake with berries? Not so much. Maybe it would’ve been better with waffles instead. Overall, the food presentation was on point, the service was solid, and the ambiance was just perfect.

The food was absolutely delicious—beautifully presented and full of flavor! We tried several places for breakfast, and this one was by far our favorite. The service was also excellent; our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive. Highly recommend!

Kiri Kopi was a fantastic spot in Ella that kept us coming back throughout our stay. The coffee was exceptional, with rich flavors and a great selection of options. The cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and attention to detail in the decor made it a perfect place to relax. They have a cool set up. I was surprised that it was sandy i didnt expect that. I thought that was a great idea! Staff weren't the friendliest tho. I felt the vibe was off so i had to go to another cafe after to get another flat white because i didnt really feel happy about the overall service here. But i have to commend their flat white was good! The waffle breakfast was kind of disappointing. It didnt live up to my expectations when i trusted their high ratings. It was hard to slice and hard to chew. It says on the menu it has pesto but the pesto was not even a teaspoon. It was like a drop just to say there was pesto on it (I included a photo of that).

Really nice ‘tree house’ just above railway line. Chilled out atmosphere at the top. You have to take shoes off which is nice too. Very good cocktails (especially Tree house special) but bottle Lion beer not cold enough… very slow service for evening meal & food freshly cooked but not amazing.

Three House Cafe is a hidden gem in Ella! The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the owner is very flexible and helpful. The location is perfect — just a short walk to Ella Railway Station and only 5 minutes to the town. You’ll enjoy breathtaking views overlooking the tea plantations, truly one of the best in the area. The property is open to nature, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. They also offer an Ayurvedic spa and a lovely restaurant on-site. It’s definitely worth the price, especially with a delicious breakfast included. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ella!

While the vibe is magnificent and the location is very practical, you have to have super tough skin. The walls of the rooms are not closed and only made of clay, so you hear everything. The train, upstairs music, people walking, people whispering and most of all the techno music from down the road till 3am. The breakfast is great and lovely tho

One of my favorite places — that’s why I extended my stay. Even though it sometimes rained outside, it never rained inside. The energy of the people here is charming — so kind and helpful, it felt like they were my family. The menu is great, and the bathroom is always clean. There's a beautiful panoramic view — you can even watch the train pass by. The rhythm of the train. The rhythm of the Carrom games we played. The rhythm of drinking tea, which they generously offered many times. These rhythms — I’ll never forget them. I'm grateful and I will return. There will be sadness in leaving, which means there will be joy when I come back. The simple reason is: they are my family.

I found a nice place on Google Maps, it is located in a place that is a few minutes walk from Ella town. The staff is very friendly, their food and drinks are at the lowest prices, I ate their lump rice and it tasted very good, I recommend this place for travelers, it is in a very good location. If you are going to Ella tourist town, check it out.

A very beautiful place, with tea gardens on one side, Ella town and the railway station on the other, a very peaceful place, the staff is very friendly and the food is very delicious, the cocktails and mango juice are also very tasty. I recommend it to family travelers.

We went to have lunch with high expectations due to good reviews. But it was a disaster. Tge carries served were all stone cold. Food was also cold. We then ordered two egg rotis in the hope of getting hot item. But they served it with some of the egg raw and runny. The cup of milk tea i ordered had un dissolved milk powder clots. Don't go there. And finally ended up having serious indigestion.

If you in Badulla, go to this place! The food and drinks were fabulous! Unbelievable and so tastfull. We also had a mix fruit juice, mango and lime/ mint juice which were all lovely! We ordered cuttlefish, very fresh! And mix noodles, paratha and dosa. Service was great!quality also. Less dan 5000 rps, so good tip for them.

From the moment I walked in, the aroma was incredible — a sign of the fresh, quality ingredients they use. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do.

Their chicken biriyani is highly recommended. It was really tasty and 1 portion is more than enough for 2 people. Also had a ghee dose and undu wade which were in the best quality

The coffee I had at the Avocado Cafe was really good. I also tried the Chocolate Avocado Bowl, and it was a nice treat. Creamy, not too sweet, with a great mix of textures. It felt like a healthy option but still very satisfying. Overall, a cozy spot with good vibes, very nice staff and tasty food. Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby.

Was recommended Avocado Café for the food and its famous avocado coffee and it didn't disappoint! I had the shakshouka with Arabic bread and a cappuccino which was delicious and full of flavour. A nice hearty and filling meal. The cafe itself has a proper high quality coffee machine and trained staff who are able to produce great coffee too! Do yourself a favour and try their famous avocado coffee aswell for something unique and different! It's happiness in a glass! 10/10!

Such a kind family. I tried the cashew curry, the salad made from a local plant, coconut & lime and the avocado toast. They were all so good, really recommend this family run spot 🍛🥑🤤
