Deli
The Market Chef is a delightful restaurant and gourmet deli in Friday Harbor, specializing in American cuisine crafted from the freshest local ingredients. The cheery deli offers made-to-order sandwiches, prepared food, and a selection of wines. Open Monday through Friday, with limited hours on Saturday, this spot is perfect for those seeking fresh and high-quality meals. In addition to its delicious offerings, The Market Chef also features an espresso bar and bakes delectable chocolate-chip cookies.
Delicious sandwich (Roast Beef and Rocket), lots of items suitable for gifts. But unfortunately they are closed 3 days/week. Happy they were open when we were downtown. We sat outside (a non-typical sunny day!).
Kathleen R — Google review
The hours at the market chef are crazy, I’ve been trying to get one of these gorgeous sandwiches for the last 4 years! We visit San Juan twice a year and I’ve just never been in town on the right day or time. So happy I finally was able to try! Super delicious sandwiches and salads, everything you want from an elevated deli situation. I had the roast beef with rocket sandwich and it was gorgeous. Love the poppy seed bread and the olives are beautiful. Comes with a little pickle. I also got a little container of the quinoa salad and it was awesome. Adorable interior with good wine and snacks and little gifts.
Gabi M — Google review
Absolutely loved my visit to The Market Chef! I tried the Spicy Italian and the Summer Garden sandwiches—both were incredibly fresh and clearly made with high-quality, clean ingredients. The portions were generous for the price, and the overall vibe of the cafe is super cute, with some cozy seating options in both the front and back. My only wish is that they were open more than four days a week! Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area—you won’t be disappointed.
Samarth B — Google review
A must go! My absolute fav spot to eat or take out for picnic. Food quality and service are top notch! They do such wonderful job. Store has finest curated items like spices, Italian pasta, sauces, etc. Patio dining is great! Check schedule. It would be great they would open seven days a week during summer.
Jose C — Google review
Really enjoyed this restaurant! I loved the tuna sandwich and recommend upgrading to the tuna melt- it’s worth it :) Staff is very friendly and helpful. Lovely to sit and eat with the view of the harbor. Stopped by for lunch here after arriving from the Anacortes ferry. Just a short 3-5 minute walk from the dock. Sandwiches are made from 11a-3p. This place is worth checking out!
Hakeem W — Google review
Everyone in our group loved the food! We got the Deer Haze, Victory Garden, and kids grilled cheese. The customer service was probably the best on the island. Guy was super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place. The bread and fillings inside the sandwich was amazing. Definitely a different kind of sandwich but one I would go back to.
Ryan W — Google review
WOW! I lived the roast beef and rocket sandwich. I guess the Rocket is the horseradish? I normally avoid horseradish, but this was awesome. The sandwich got better with every bite. The blueberry croissant was also incredible. Fresh peach kombucha on tap, so good. The owner greeted many customers by name, so clearly the locals love it. Seating outside, we enjoyed the sun. It's not cheap but SO WHAT. Treat yourself.
Richard P — Google review
The roast beef sandwich was AMAZING and bathrooms were nice and clean. The salmon chowder was not great and more of a chicken noodle soup with barely any salmon so that was pretty disappointing. But I would come back for the sandwiches for sure!!

Bakery
Bakery San Juan is a local favorite that has been serving its signature pizzas, bread, and delectable pastries since 2008. Their thin-crust New York-style gourmet pizzas are topped with locally sourced ingredients, with the Salsiccia being a popular choice among visitors. In addition to their savory offerings, Bakery San Juan also provides fresh baked bread and homemade pastries like the irresistible carrot muffins.
The pizza (dough especially) is amazing here. I love to come in for a late lunch slice. Team is always kind no matter the line. Coffee is superb You don’t come here for location or atmosphere — though it’s pleasant for sure.
Matt E — Google review
Cute little bakery! The girls working the front were sweet and quick getting our food. We ordered a Berry Scone, a Cinnamon Roll, a Honey Pecan Roll, a Scone, a Brownie, and 3 small milks. Everything was delicious and soft, no dried out pastries here. The parking was a little crazy, the gravel lot was very full and it seems like people were just making up their own parking spots. We ended up deciding to park out on the street.
Amber S — Google review
My bf’s favorite dessert is Key Lime Pie and he claims the key lime pie he got here was the best he’s ever had and said the pizza was really good too. We tried an assortment of things and there were so many hits. The brownie and chocolate croissant were solid but the berry scone, apple tart, and coffee key were INCREDIBLE. Might be one in my top three bakeries I’ve ever been to.
Riley J — Google review
Okay, yum! Pizzas, muffins, breads, cinnamon rolls, sandwiches, and more! Delicious! Made fresh! Get in here and enjoy! Or take it to go! Great seating, inside or out. Nice staff.
MyVisit M — Google review
On a Tuesday morning in October, there wasn't a wait. The selection of breakfast foods was wide. We had a cinnamon roll and a blueberry cream cheese danish, which were both delightful. The hot cocoa was flavorful but a bit watery.
Ben Z — Google review
Stepping into this bakery was great, I was immediately welcomed by wonderful scents from all the baked goods. Everything looked divine, but I finally settled on the pecan butter tart which was great. Although it wasn't quite like pecan pie/tarts that I'm used to in the south, it was well made and just sweet enough to satisfy the craving! The staff were friendly and chill, the vibe seemed great. Good place for a sweet treat in the San Juans
Holden T — Google review
Best almond croissant I’ve ever had. Go early! I randomly popped by after my ferry ride just looking for some coffee and left wishing I had taken a few carrot muffins for the road. Also incredibly reasonably priced for the quality of the pastry and the size. 11/10 stars

Rocky Bay Cafe & Delicatessen is a popular breakfast spot in Friday Harbor, offering hearty portions of classic diner dishes. The menu features a variety of morning starters such as Eggs Benedict, corned beef hash, loaded breakfast burritos, and French toast. Daily specials like bacon, garlic, mushroom, and Swiss omelet provide additional options for diners.
We went early and were easily able to grab a spot for six people during a busy holiday weekend. Two of us got chai lattes before the machine unfortunately broke. The food was great -- I got a half order of biscuits and gravy and it was still a ton of food. Overall, a lovely spot for breakfast!
Leilani O — Google review
Located in the heart of town & less than a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal, skip the overpriced options (unless you want to pay for the harbor view) and enjoy breakfast served all day at the Rocky Bay Cafe. Quick, friendly service, reasonable prices, good rye toast, greasy spoon standards. Can get busy; small dining room; no outdoor seating; restrooms could be cleaner; limited free 2 hr street parking. Support your local small businesses & restaurants 👍
John K — Google review
Excellent breakfast food on Friday Harbor. The restaurant is small inside with not much seating but we were able to get the last table about 8am. Menu has enough variety for any appetite. The pancakes are HUGE!! Our family could eat off the whole stack. Kids menu is perfect for the little ones. I had the American Burrito. It was also delicious. Chicken fried steak was good. You can’t go wrong. Prices are a little expensive. $100 breakfast for 5 people. We didn’t order any drinks.
Jill H — Google review
We visited Rocky Bay Café on both mornings of our stay in Friday Harbor—and for good reason! Located right in the heart of town, it's a popular spot, and the crowd speaks for itself. Despite the rush, the service was warm and efficient, and the food was simply outstanding. Between the three of us, we tried the Eggs Benedict, Healthy Breakfast, Chilaquiles, and our ultimate favorite—the Pesto Bacon Omelet. Every dish was delicious and cooked to perfection. But the real surprise winner for me? Their CHOCOLATE MILK. I loved it so much, I had it three times! It was rich, comforting, and honestly the best I’ve had in a long time. The place has a warm, welcoming vibe and makes you feel right at home. It was absolutely worth the wait and also very budget-friendly. I’d return to San Juan just for breakfast at Rocky Bay again—it’s that good!
Prarthana N — Google review
Upon a local recommendation, we went to Rocky Bay Café for breakfast. It was busy, but they took our phone number and called when our table was available Thankful it was a gorgeous day so we walked around town just a bit before we were seated. It’s not an extravagant place by any means, but the folks working there were just wonderful. Our coffee cup was always filled and the kitchen created a breakfast that was the best we’ve had on our trip so far! I had the senior egg platter and my husband had the French toast which was supposedly one of their specialties. I got a bite and it was scrumptious. Definitely a go to - just realize you may have to wait.
Paula D — Google review
The food is delicious. The menu is for all ages. I eat very little, and they have a menu for me. The service is wonderful. The coffee is the best, and the atmosphere is very cozy. I loved it. The clean plates because the food was really delicious
Vanessa C — Google review
Food was delicious, I got the eggs Benedict with nova lox. The server was very sweet and attentive. Enjoyed it all very much!
Adeana — Google review
The food is really good! Definitely a step up from tourist traps closer to the ferry terminal. It’s also very reasonably priced. But gosh, the service was so unfriendly! A man, I think the owner, was nice. But the server we had was unwelcoming from the second we walked in. It’s unclear what you’re supposed to do, so you just sort of stand in the entry way waiting for something to happen. Apparently there’s a sign up sheet on top of a pastry case at the back of the restaurant, which you’re somehow just supposed to know about. I made eye contact with a server there several times, but she ignored us. I heard the owner say to her “when you see people waiting at the front door, you need to acknowledge them” and she said “I honestly didn’t see them” which was clearly a lie. She was then given us as a table and was borderline mean. She clearly hates her job, and made it seem like she was doing us a huge favor just by letting us eat there. Snapped at us several times. The food really is good, but I’d probably take my food to go if I came back.

Brown Bear Baking is a charming bakery located on Main Street, offering small-batch French pastries, breads, and sandwiches alongside coffee drinks. It's the perfect spot to grab a pre-hike coffee and indulge in their delectable pastries like the flaky kouign-amann and gooey sticky buns. The bakery provides a quaint space to enjoy these treats before heading out for island adventures.
Very cute bakery, lots of delicious options. Great for a quick breakfast, everything is ready right when you order. Interior is cute and cozy, not a lot of seating inside in the winter but it would be easy to take your food to go as well. Quiche and orange morning bun were delicious!
Emmaline L — Google review
Everything at Brown Bear is amazing, including the owners and staff. Recently gluten-free I found that they do offer a tasty gluten-free berry muffin and their Turtleback Trail cookie (wheat free) is memorable. Get them early, they sell out! A trip to Orcas Island isn't complete without visiting Brown Bear Bakery.
LJ C — Google review
We visited Brown Bear every morning on our recent trip to Orcas. We particularly enjoyed the quiche and croque monsieur paired with a new pastry every morning. The garden is a lovely place to enjoy your breakfast, but we also found ourselves entranced at the small bar inside where you can watch the kitchen staff at work (where are my GBB lovers at?). It was a delight watching the bread being shaped, pastries filled and decorated, and the chaos of the kitchen executed like a dance. Both owners made a point of chatting with us and were extremely kind. We can’t fault such a lovely establishment and hope to return someday!
Kimberly R — Google review
TLDR; the best croissant in Washington We came in a quick bite not expecting much but were absolutely blown away by how good the croissants and coffee is here. They’re the Goldilocks of croissants - just flaky enough, just buttery enough, just soft enough. I cannot tell you how hard it is to find one that checks all the boxes. We tried the plain croissant, ham and cheese croissant and the pain au chocolat- all of them were absolutely incredible. We tried the mocha (one iced and one regular) and that was super good too - not over sweet, no hint of bitterness, absolutely smooth and silky. There are lines to order throughout the day but thankfully they do move fairly quickly.
Pooja C — Google review
You step inside the rustic and welcoming bakery and you immediately feel warm and cozy. Then you wait in line to order, are immediately given the food items from your order so you can go find an open table to sit and eat… drinks are picked up at the far end of the bar. There is a small number of tables/seats inside… but a decent number of seats outside. Right by the cash register (that you order at) is a display of all the pastries, croissants, quiches, and croque options. The croque options here are unique in that they are open faced on one large slice of bread (rather than in sandwich form) and have roasted asparagus & no bechamel. There were three of us and we ordered the ham & leak quiches for dine in, and a couple pastries to enjoy after the quiche were finished and then also a couple things to go. I was very impressed by everything we got. The ham & leak quiche is rich & full of flavor but also still very light and delicate. The almond fruit crumble is amazing: it’s light, rich, but mildly sweet and the crumble topping is a nice addition of texture and savory sweet. The sides are kind of a cut off and toss though, as they are overcooked. I’d order a center piece on my next visit, rather than a border piece from the tray. The currant scone was also a big hit. The scone is very mildly sweet which is such a nice change from the overly sweet everything in America. There’s a sugar dusting on top which gives the scone a nice crunch and also just the right amount of sweetness to the treat. I would definitely come back to try other items and also to watch the baked goods being prepared and baked, as the kitchen is entirely open and in full view from anywhere inside the establishment. 11/10 recommend.
Wesley P — Google review
the pastries were amazing ! The latte was super disappointing. It was only one shot of espresso for a large lavender latte (watched them make them :/ ) and did not taste like lavender (or coffee) at all. All my friends who ordered lattes also felt it was just milk. Get the pastries, find coffee elsewhere !
Madeline C — Google review
Got a pain au chocolat and orange morning bun. Both were very dry and flavorless. The pain au chocolate had sooo much bread and two thin toothpaste strips of chocolate. Proportion of bread to chocolate was completely off. Orange morning bun was so dry. You know when you eat mediocre bread and think, “this is a waste of calories.” Well this is your place.
Liz Y — Google review
Quaint little cafe with delicious baked goods. The staff were all super friendly and decked out in rainbow tie dye shirts. Everything I tried (and I went there multiple times) was tasty. I particularly enjoyed the bear claw, savoury mushroom pasty, and the almond berry coffee cake. The lamination on the pastries was sublime, you can tell these guys know what they’re doing. I liked that they served the savoury pastries with a side salad. Coffee was great too. Limited indoor and outdoor seating available. There were long lines on the weekend.

Bar & grill
American restaurant
Blue Water Bar & Grill is a cozy waterfront restaurant and tavern located at 7 Spring Street, offering picturesque views of the port of Friday Harbor. The eatery prides itself on serving up a variety of dishes including steak, seafood, burgers, and breakfast options at reasonable prices. The establishment aims to provide quality food with enthusiastic service in a lively atmosphere. While the service may not be lightning-fast, the staff is known for their excellent hospitality.
Can't beat the location! Good selection of food, typical island pricing. Service was friendly but a little on island 🏝️ time , not a huge deal. Chicken Alfredo was pretty good and the buffalo burger was great! Recommend 😁
Kale H — Google review
We had two servings of the steamers and it was abysmal. $18 per plate for maybe $4 worth of food if I’m being generous. The size of the clams was laughable… but in a really sad, pathetic, and painful way. There were the size of my pinky nail, and the actual meat was half that. We honestly just paid for the shells. We were also just trying to get a substitute of vegetables instead of fries for our child and even that reasonable request was a chore to get ordered. You would have thought we were trying to buy a car here. Honestly just really disappointing and expected more. I would recommend eating at Spud Fish & Chips for an affordable and tasty eating experience.
Monred G — Google review
Amazing view, food was okay, owner and the waitress both were pretty attentive. Can’t beat the convenience of the location - just 20 feet away from the ferry terminal.
Julia L — Google review
Hadn't gone here in over maybe 15 years since moving away and back again. Wow things are different. Went for a birthday dinner and the whole table was happy. My sister loved her fried California roll, Grandpa liked his burger, and I was very pleased with my Alfredo pasta. The chicken in mine wasn't very good, but the rest of the dish was so filling and delicious. Also shared a lava cake for desert and it was perfect. Had a great time. Wait staff were very nice too. I will be going back again.
Dahlis C — Google review
This cozy spot is a wonderful place to recharge, and refuel while you're waiting for your ferry. The fish light fixtures really caught my eye. Recommend the clam chowder and steamer clams
Leise K — Google review
Great view of ferry dock and to sit and people watch. Good drink selection. We just stopped for a quick drink and appetizer.
Dave — Google review
We enjoyed our meal so much we returned the next night.
Anne M — Google review
I went here with family back in August before we went on the ferry back to Anacortes, and at first I wasn't hungry but I just decided why not try it. I ordered some type of chicken burger. It took a little longer than I thought but it was pretty busy that day. While we waited we got some water, and enjoyed the view as there was a nice area overlooking the docks. Once we got our food it was amazing and the really good part was the "Blue Water sauce" which is the secret ingredient they put in burgers. It was great mostly besides waiting, and crying babies, but that's expected.

A quick stop in to get a cappuccino and a muffin before boarding my ferry bd k to Anacortes. Funky, old school vibe — this is literally an old wooden house with lots of windows — with great views of the harbor. My capp cane out hot and foamy, and service was super cheery and efficient. Busy spot right near the main strip, but very pleasant.

The mocha and cinnamon bun were delicious! The baristas were very friendly. Quaint cafe with a gorgeous view of the harbor.

While waiting to board the ferry in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island we were able to park our car and walk over to the Salty Fox coffee shop. I was able to enjoy a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie while my wife indulged in the cookie with lots of gluten. 😜 The shop itself is very cute and has an unreal view of the harbor. We were able to sit in a shady spot on the front porch surrounded by flowers and chirping birds and watch the hustle and bustle of ferries come and go. I'm surprised more people don't take advantage of this rather than just sit in their cars. The coffee was good and the atmosphere is great.

Rustic vibe coffee shop, cute coffee shop with some baked items, small gift shop, walk up window, or go inside. Enjoy your experience inside or out. I will say upon ordering we were told ten minutes for our coffee, impatient as we are, we almost canceled. Thank goodness we didn’t! My oat, mocha was the best! The chocolate was amazing, not too sweet, just perfect. Staff was friendly, coffee shop was clean. Great fun in Friday harbor!

Sweet spot. Convenient spot located right at the harbor. With parking right at the front of it it’s very accessible to get in and out. Looks like it has a walk up drive thru. Coffee shop vibes with good indoor seating to be able to study or do work or even to Lounge. Their bagels are very tasteful & the açaí bowls are a must. A little pricey and they close early so it’s kind of inconvenient. Stuff are kind and patient as we didn’t know what to order.

Nice coffee shop down by the ferry. They have breakfast items and coffee for those early morning rides. And they are right in front of the ferry as well! Very convenient. Hands down coffee - had a fantastic experience at this café in Friday Harbor! The water view and outdoor seating is absolutely stunning, providing a peaceful backdrop to enjoy your coffee. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. We got to celebrate birthday of one of the baristas while we were there :) The coffee and pastries both savory and sweet are yummy —perfectly brewed, baked and fresh. Excellent option for a quick breakfast before starting a day of exploring. We went at prime time - Saturday at 10 am, and were served very quickly, waiting only minutes for food and coffee. Avocado toast has an abundance of toppings. Cold brew was DELICIOUS. Staff was friendly and efficient. Would recommend and will definitely return.
Laura S — Google review
TLDR; Best coffee and small breakfast bites on the island, and possibly also Washington. We stopped by and got a few mochas, an avocado toast and a breakfast sandwich which were all so incredibly in terms of flavor that I wish this cafe was close to home and not a 2 hour drive and 1 hour ferry ride away. :( I’ve never had better mocha anywhere in the state, and the flavors on their avocado toast are absolutely on point. To top it off, their prices are reasonable too! Will be back, and this will always be my coffee place on Friday Harbor.
Pooja C — Google review
We had multiple great experiences at Riptide during our vacation in Friday Harbor. We tried most of the smoothies on the menu, and every one of them was delicious. The coffee and watermelon lemonade were also refreshing. The staff was very kind each visit! The view is incredible from the outdoor seating. We really appreciated the variety of vegan options available for my wife—it made it easy for both of us to enjoy everything.

American restaurant
Located in Roche Harbor, Lime Kiln Cafe is a popular spot known for its in-house made doughnuts and traditional American fare. The cafe offers a wide range of classic entrees and sides, making it an ideal place for families to enjoy breakfast or lunch with its casual, counter-style service. With big windows providing views of the marina, visitors can savor dishes like chowder and fish and chips while watching boats come in.
It’s a little spendy but there’s not many options on this side of the island. The food was great though and the beer garden had live music. We saw a bald eagle too! Eating by the water and marina was super relaxing too. The servers were all really nice too. It gets busy so you may have to poke around to find a seat and you might get looks if you don’t vacate after eating but that’s kinda par for the course with busy establishments in tourist spots.

Nice spot to relax and enjoy breakfast. The food is decent—nothing extraordinary—but the atmosphere is pleasant. Service was a bit slow

The scenery is beautiful, food and service is good. We came for lunch mid-week and waited about 40 minutes for our food. The Green Chili Chicken Dilla was very good. Carnitas Pork Dilla was ok.

TLDR; really good food, but misses the mark on presentation given their prices. We came in the late afternoon for lunch on the weekend are were surprised to find that there were plenty of tables available! The vegetarian options are on the light side unfortunately but they did have a bean patty substitution for their burgers (for an extra $3, which irks me a bit, to be honest - I can’t figure out why there’s an extra charge to substitute an ingredient when it burger is already $17) - regardless, the burger was very very good. We also got the half clam chowder/ half fish and chips - this was a good decision too, although next time around we’ll stick to just the fish and chips because they are simply amazing. Overall, even though the food was great, I’m docking a star for that irksome $3 charge and the plastic cutlery in spite of the fairly pricey food.

Had lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Service was quick, but the fish and chips weren't good. The chips were cold (and the restaurant was reasonably busy so they should have been hot) and the fish was thin, breaded and I would guess previously frozen and not very tasty. The clam chowder was luke warm not hot. Overall, quite disappointing and not worth the money.

We were here for about 5 days for the 4th of July holiday on our boat. They do a great job keeping up with the demands of the hundreds of boaters that come in, and really do accomplish it with a smile. The service was always very friendly and welcoming. We had the donuts on several days, the coffee, the pizza, a few different things at breakfast and then the pork tacos off the lunch menu over the time we were there. All yummy and hit the spot that was needed :)

Came around 11 on a Saturday. Staff was friendly, vibes were good, plenty of people hanging out but also plenty of tables. Good views and good food. We got -carnitas skillet -pancakes -bacon was awesome, just a side came with 4 big thick strips, cooked well, not floppy not crispy -vanilla sprinkles donut Definitely would come back here!

Waited in line for 20 minutes to order at the counter and then waited for nearly an hour (54 minutes) to get our food. Hash was cold, in a cold skillet. Has browns and sunny side egg were burnt. Vegetables we cold. And the whole thing was swimming in oil. The other dish was supposed to have soft poached eggs which came to us as hard poach. The toast wasn't even warm enough to melt butter. The only good part was the cinnamon and sugar doughnut.

Crows Nest Coffee Shoppe is a small, walk-in coffee joint with a variety of drink and food options. While it may not be the best spot for a family breakfast due to limited seating and menu options, the delicious Americano and friendly service make it worth visiting. The long lines are a testament to the excellent coffee and welcoming atmosphere, where regulars are known by name and orders. The barista is knowledgeable about the island, adding to the overall experience.
Great hole in the wall for counter service caffeine. Friendly, good vibes, and delicious matcha latte. Great selection of Alt milks. Plant milks included oat, hemp, soy, etc.

Awesome coffee tucked between 2 buildings after a fire destroyed the original spot- they have 2 locations - this spot is to go only. The owner is awesome and efficient. The espresso is delicious, all the drink offerings are great. So much character packed into a small space, what a great experience!

This is your best local barista. We tried multiple coffees and cafes in the Friday Harbor area and Crows Nest Coffee rose above all of them. John is a thoughtful Barista that puts his full attention into all of his drinks. They have a variety of selections and every latte we tried was bursting with unique flavor. He is a master of his craft. The atmosphere is pleasant and we appreciated the authenticity and kindness with every serving. Wish we lived here so we could support this local business more.

OMG! So I stopped for a hot drink and felt like grabbing something to eat real quick. I ordered the burger and was blown away by how delicious it was. In addition to this they gave the best service ever! David your the best! if your on the island make sure you stop by and David will take care of you :)

Really good food at a decent price. Only wish the portions were larger. We had dinner and breakfast here. There’s no place to sit and enjoy your meal so you gotta take it to go. Huge selection of ice creams and other sweets. We didn’t try them because it was so cold outside but next time, we will have to! Service is super friendly and food is served with a smile even though they are busy.

Stopped by for a bagel, smoothie and lotus before our ferry ride out. I have to say this place was really good and I actually liked it more than the sit down restaurants. They have good ways to add some extra flavor( potato’s, chipotle sauce) but I kept it simple with just egg and cheese on the bagel and it was good. You can tell they use real eggs and cheese.

Olga Rising is a charming spot located in the heart of Eastsound, offering a delightful array of freshly baked goods and aromatic coffee. The menu features delectable buttermilk biscuit sandwiches for breakfast and classic made-to-order sandwiches for lunch, all prepared with simple ingredients and fresh produce. Visitors rave about the warm and friendly service, as well as the option to enjoy their treats in a lovely outdoor area.
Stayed on the island for 5 days and ate lunch here once and breakfast twice. Being a part of the food industry, I can attest that this food was truly something special. The curry chicken sandwich and boysenberry lemonade (which I had them make sparkling) were exceptional, but what I’m still thinking about was that Olga rising breakfast sandwich and their cinnamon rolls. I’m going to wake up thinking about them for at least 3 months, if not longer. I’m back home and trying to figure out how to make my own homemade version of that sandwich. I probably won’t be able to, and for that reason alone I have to get back there asap. Mostly the same people working there each time we went and they were crushing it with smiles on their faces. The inside market was really dope as well and I wish I had space in my bags to bring some local stuff home. Great patio right outside, but also a nice little park across the street you can eat at. Give this place your money.

I definitely recommend stopping here. The first time I went the baked goods were sold out but the second time I went a little earlier in the day and the cold case had such amazing looking baked goods I had to try one of strawberry cupcakes which was absolutely insane! Chocolatey and fresh fruit! The breakfast sandwiches on the homemade biscuits are unforgettable! It’s a must try! Homemade meals make the island what it is!

Loooong line and pretty pricey for an egg sandwich but it was excellent. The biscuits are flakey and buttery and we enjoyed a soft scone too

This was our first stop on Eastsound. It was a great welcome. I got a chai latte (delicious!) and breakfast sandwich. They had a vegetarian sausage patty and it was such a nice touch. I love when places offer that option. They had delicious looking pastries but we didn’t get any this round. They have some cute items for sale around the shop (great ideas for gifts). And there is plenty of seating outside in their little courtyard. The food came out quickly and the people working were friendly.

This place is fantastic! The food is great, especially the sandwiches and pastries—they’re fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The seating area is cute and cozy, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome, which adds to the overall experience. The store itself is charming, with lots of awesome items to browse and buy, making it more than just a cafe. I’ll definitely be coming back for both the food and the delightful atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Had the biscuit breakfast sandwhich a few days ago and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. I’ve brought it up to my boyfriend possibly 20 times since our visit just to say “I can’t stop thinking about that breakfast sandwhich”. I cry knowing that I left the island and can’t get it everyday. The lattes were also very good.

Additionally, the restaurant at Friday Harbor House boasts a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking Friday Harbor, where guests can enjoy a raw bar or a simple menu featuring American-style cuisine.
We stayed for a three day birthday trip for the hubby. We paid for a Marine view room. Was not disappointed. Location can’t be beat..it was literally a minute drive from the Ferry landing. Room was quiet, bed was comfortable, and it had two big comfy chairs where I spent plenty of time watching the ferries come and go and Kenmore air land in the harbor. Jacuzzi tub and L’occtaine bath products made us feel super pampered. Service was lovely - breakfast in the dining room was beyond fabulous - their potatoes were the best I’ve had. Water, coffee and snacks located on the 3rd floor. They left a birthday greeting and come chocolates in the room when we arrived. Budget wise - it is a pretty penny - but totally worth it. Will for sure stay here again!

My overall experience was amazing. The hotel was in a great location and the staff were incredible. I gave this place an overall 5 stars even though we had problems with our room. Despite the problems, it was the manager, Molly who handled it well that made a difference to the situation. We had problems with our toilet and brought it up to her attention and she immediately attempted to fix it. At dinner, she once again apologized for the inconvenience. The food at the restaurant was very nice. Our server Austen was attentive and personable which made our dining experience memorable. Back to the toilet, middle of the night it was not fixed and on top of that, the sensor light also didn’t turn off. So needless to say, we had terrible sleep. We brought it up to Molly again in the morning and she really tried to rectify the problem. I appreciate hotels that genuinely do their best to try to make things right which is why I will stay again and highly recommend this place. Our room was a one off experience and the way the hotel managed the situation was nice. I felt they really took care of us.
Corrina C — Google review
Excellent rooms, especially the suites, and the staff (Rebecca, Zoe, and all) was very helpful. We changed rooms during our stay, just because they were fully booked when we made reservations, and they helped move our luggage from one room to the other. Clean rooms and nice Jacuzzis in the rooms. Internet access could have been more consistent, but vacationing on San Juan Island means enjoying the area outside the room!
David A — Google review
The quality was not as expected for the price. I paid $560 for a night in a harbor view hotel room. There were some weird planters with huge unsightly bars blocking much of the view. Maybe it was a trellis at one point but the plants were unkempt and completely dead so it just added no aesthetic value. But why block the view with anything at all? That is the main thing this hotel has as a selling point. The design was off. There was some carpet in the room that looked like it belonged in a warehouse, not in a hotel at this price point. The bed and pillows were just ok. At this price you really expect a wow factor for everything and it just didn't have that wow factor for most aspects of the stay. The breakfast food was very good. The daytime front desk person was amazing, very helpful and kind. I loved the products in the bathroom, they were one of the highlights of the stay. Unfortunately I was trying to find out more about what conditioner was in the bathroom because it looked like a different product line than the shampoo and I didn't catch what it was. When I called to ask, the night time front desk person just gaslit me and told me that she was going to send me an email with a list of the products in the bathroom. After awhile of not recieving the email, I called back in case she didn't have my email address and confirmed that she had it. She said she was busy but was "writing the email right now." That email never came. So, she lied to not have to deal with me. At that price point, everything should wow you. The service should be amazing all around and not one person should leave you with a bad feeling, beds should be so comfortable that you don't want to leave, the design details should be very aesthetically appealing and the view of the harbor should be as unobstructed as possible. It's just not worth the money as it is. It felt like a rip off.

The Mansion Restaurant at Rosario Resort & Spa is a charming waterfront dining spot on Orcas Island, offering seasonal American cuisine and a selection of beverages. Situated on the original veranda of the Moran Mansion, it provides casual dining with picturesque views of Cascade Bay. The property holds historical significance as the former home of Robert Moran, a prominent Seattle Shipbuilder. Guests can make reservations online to enjoy this unique dining experience.
Really amazing cocktails and food! Was recommended by our B&B host at otters pond and way exceeded our expectations. We had the halibut tartare and local greens salad, with duck breast and pan seared halibut. Complex, interesting flavors, and well prepared with fine attention to detail. We had two cocktails, then ordered another once we tasted the first ones! Some of the best drinks we’ve ever had anywhere, creative, well balanced, and unique. Add to that the setting, in the Moran mansion house, with dramatic views over the water, this can’t be beat!

Orcas Island is a favorite of ours. We visit at least once a year in February as a break from the winter weather at home. Most trips, we visit Rosario and the Mansion, because it is such a beautifuland historic spot. The Mansion changed hands a few years ago and another sale has just been completed. We are hopeful that will bring it back to the 5 star restaurant it should be. The main dining room has been closed for years, but is more impressive than the hallway where the restaurant serves these days. The food is still delicious, but the atmosphere and service have declined. Let's hope our next visit takes it back to the stellar level it should be.

Gorgeous views from the windows of the Rosario Mansion Restaurant, but nothing to write home about in terms of service. We stayed at the Rosario for a milestone wedding anniversary and made a reservation at the Mansion Restaurant for our anniversary dinner a month in advance of our stay. Staff made no mention of our celebration, and were at a bare minimum with interactions throughout our meal despite there being almost no other tables filled during the time we were dining. Never once asked if we enjoyed any of the 3 courses we ordered. We absolutely loved our stay on the island and will be back, but will not be dining at the Mansion Restaurant for a special dinner in the future. When spending $200+ on dinner, guests should be treated with service that equates to the cost, and special celebrations should be acknowledged - this is basic 101 hospitality knowledge. The menu had a great variety if you’re a meat eater. We opted to start with the Smoked Halibut Dip - wonderful comfort dip with great balance of fish, cheese, and herbs. Shared the Grilled Pear & Burrata Salad - oddly this salad had no grilled pears. We could not figure that piece out, but otherwise was a delicious salad. Both of us ordered the Brodetto di Pesce as our entree - if you don't love spice, do not order this pasta! Nowhere does the menu mention hot peppers/chili being used in the tomato & garlic sauce, but our mouths were on fire. A great variety of seafood in the pasta, but felt more like a soup than a seafood pasta. Overall, gorgeous presentation of food, but not worth the hype for the price and service.

We stumbled across this resort as we were planning on just fueling up our boat. We decided to get a slip and stay. This resort was quaint and relaxing. The history of this area is amazing- restaurant located inside the mansion museum. This restaurant was so good. They had the best crab cakes we had on the islands so far. The pork sliders were unlike any I have had. I had the salmon with bacon onion relish and my husband had the newyork strip steak. His brussel sprouts were slightly undercooked but overall the meal was still great. My meal was perfect. Gary was our waiter. He was pleasant and fun to chat with. The view was amazing.

Visiting Rosario was a step back in time for me as I had worked there back in the 60s. While there have been several additions that could have been better designed to fit the original architecture the place is still magnificent. The lodge has wonderful interior woodwork. The library with it's pipe organ is a grand place. The grounds looked great.

We've stayed at the Rosario Resort a number of times over the years. Generally good experiences. This time around staff went above and beyond to make mealtimes a positive experience. Staff were friendly and hard working. They were very understaffed for breakfasts, which impacted the timeliness of service, but that was at no fault of the servers. Food and drinks were good. Mostly pleased with our experience and applaud the serving staff and cooks for their dedication and care.

I have been coming here for years and now I like it even more. Their food and drinks seem to be better than before. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the bay. You can take a walk around the campus, look at the museum, and come in for a nice lunch/dinner or drink. They also offer a nice brunch. I stayed here many years ago and was not too impressed with the room because is pretty out of date, Look like an old apartment got converted into a resort. They do have a pretty nice balcony overlooking the bay and their outdoor heated pool is nice.

The Friday Harbor House Inn offers a Pacific Northwest dining experience with stunning views of the harbor. The restaurant is comfortable, romantic, and artistic with local art adorning the walls. The food is excellent and reasonably priced, making it a great choice for a date night or special occasion. The puffy jacket pop-up was amazing - four courses for $59 was an incredible value!
The breakfast is my favorite but they have great dinners also. The staff is very kind and accommodating at all hours of the day whether you are with a tour group or having an intimate dinner for two. Very much recommend. My only complaint is that they are not open for lunch very often.

Amazing views and the staff were attentive, welcoming and fun. The beef short rib came with interesting flavors as it had pesto and hazelnuts. I am not sure if I would have it again if I came back or try to make a similar dish. The seafood pasta was also had and enjoyed with no complaints. The best was the warm brownie with ice cream and caramel for dessert. It melted in my mouth. Save room for dessert! Our server was attentive and had great humor too.

2-star food, 5-star location. Beautiful view from the deck. We thought we’d try again with the change in chef. The scallops were very tender, but the sauce was tasteless. The waitress recommended that we get the bread to use with the scallops sauce. It didn’t seem to add anything to the bland bread. The seasoned butter that came with the bread was similarly bland. The Brussel sprout appetizer was savory and there was a good amount. My wife had a Hearth Chicken. The chicken and the onion bed the chicken was on didn’t have much taste. The chicken itself was moist and tender. She had Grilled Carrots with pistachios, but some were thicker than my thumb and hard as an uncooked carrot. I had a prawn dish with a raspberry sauce. I couldn’t taste much raspberry over the ?chili powder on the tiny prawns. The virgin pina coladas were great! We went for our 45th anniversary, hoping for an improvement over our last anniversary meal there a few years ago. I doubt we’ll be back. $164 is a lot for a disappointing meal. Couldn’t beat the view though. Update: Well, after two years, we tried again Rib appetizer was very tough and bland. We might have been able to cut with a steak knife, but our butter knife wouldn’t tear the meat and there was little flavor. The king salmon was excellent but the pasta underlying it was tasteless. The halibut was excellent also, but the risotto was bland. Yet again we were disappointed. We keep trying as chefs come and go. Beautiful view of the harbor and service was excellent.

5/5 on the service and atmosphere, and presentation. However the food itself as other reviews here have mentioned is mediocre at best. I ordered the blackberry prawns and hominy and everything on my plate was so over-smoked it was almost like eating straight cigarette smoke. Sad because the dish has so much potential for flavor. My boyfriend ordered the wild king salmon and his salmon was a little undercooked and had hardly any flavor. They should have smoked his and not mine. His cabbage salad was so bitter neither of us could eat it and we both love cabbage and greens. The appetizers weren’t bad, but overpriced as well in my opinion for what you get. The only thing that blew us away was surprisingly the tortilla chips that came with the crab dip. They were really good. We love settings and atmospheres like this restaurant provides, but unfortunately the food just did not measure up.

Best food on the island. Amazing service very caring and patient. Celebrated our 5 year anniversary and they made us feel wanted and important. Even came in very early for our reservation and they had a seat ready for us anyways .as well as offered us a better seat as it opened up . Food was amazing. Had a few cocktails that were probably in my top 3 .

We had a really great time at the Friday Harbor House restaurant although it took us awhile to find the entrance. We started out with morning cocktails which was good and refreshing. The boyfriend had the avocado toast which he said was good. I had the beyond burger and boy let me tell you, i have my fair share of plant based burgers and this is THE BEST!! $25 can be steep for a burger but if it's that good I will be back to Friday Harbor just to have it again!! Burger was juicy, and just full of flavor. Amazing! The service was so friendly and quick. Since it's fall season the deck is fully closed so seats are limited What a way to start our day! We'll definitely be back!

It's a great little market. It has a nice hot bar and salad bar, a nice selection of drinks, both adult and other. It can get a little crowded during the spring and summer. And be careful about the intersection in front of the market it can sometimes be nearly impossible to get through.

It has all the outdoor gear you could need and groceries if you’re in a pinch! 3/5 because of cleanliness and organization, as well as the pricing. I would call this grocery store and “emergency stop.” But the local vibes were there and we love the staff!
Kalani P — Google review
Has a great market selection as well as a fun upper space with outdoor clothing from some fantastic brands. Worth it!

This is a great local market. They have everything you could need while you are on the islands. They have a great local assortment of products and their wine and liquors selections are many.

Always a great place to shop very helpful staff. The store always has a great supply of produce and hard to find items

We always visit this store when we are in the area. There is a good selection of groceries and a great trendy outdoor clothing section upstairs.

Vita's Wildly Delicious is a great cafe for local residents and tourists alike. They offer amazing food and wines, as well as live music on select Tuesdays and Fridays.
Funky, eclectic, Delicious and fun. A beautiful late summer night out with my family for local music and hand crafted food. Go on a Tuesday night for the wood fired pizza it is seasonal and won't open up again until spring, I can hardly wait until I pull into fishermans bay and tie up at the dock again. One of my favourite summer traditions.

The food is fresh and the service is friendly - what more could you want? We had delicious shrimp cakes, flank steak skewers, chicken skewers, chard salad, and flatbread. Looking forward to trying the desserts next time.

We are visiting from out of town and decided to stop in for a late lunch after whale watching. Service was good, food was fantastic and they had plenty of different choices. We also had a glass of local wine, which was also nice. Outdoor patio was perfect on a summer day and peaceful. We would highly recommend visiting when on Lopez island.
Vincent G — Google review
We stumbled upon Vita's almost by accident and what a pleasant surprise. The delicious Panini's were just what we needed after hours of biking around the island. Very small place so I imagine it could get crowded, but on a Wednesday summer afternoon it wasn't bad at all and we got our food quickly. After several hit and miss lunch/dinner experiences on Lopez I've had on different visits to the island, I know exactly where I am coming back to for lunch on my next visit.

We have just spent the last week on Lopez Island and have eaten at Vita’s 3 times, including Friday night, with music. The food is excellent and fresh. There is much variety to choose from. Friday night musical dinner was outstanding with the ambience of the evening and the music being fantastic. Of course, the food was also excellent. We are looking forward to returning next summer to another week of excellent dining at Vita’s.

We went to Lopez Island for 2 nights… ended up going 3 times during our stay because this place was so amazing!! One night they had wood fired pizzas and live music, the whole town showed up for the event. The wine is an amazing selection, all the food was great, and the coconut macaroon was out of this world.
Jaclyn T — Google review
We stayed on Lopez for two nights and Vita's Wildly Delicious was the only option on the second night other than the Islander (not on our list at all, due to some negative reviews) and the grocery store. We arrived expecting pizza, but they had a limited take out à la carte selection. We took two servings each of crab cakes, croquettes, potato salad, spring salad, corn cakes, and some bread and sweets. We went to Blossom around the corner and picked up a bottle of nice wine and two big Holly B cookies (I need this recipe). We made a meal of it at out room and watched the sun set. Thank you Vita's for providing most of the provisions for a wonderful night!
Ben N — Google review
Vita's is a local gem. Both a wine shop and cafe, the food is fresh, delicious, seasonal, and always local, even if their wine is not. You'll find unique combination of flavors with lots of herbs. I recommend the panini and any dessert offering. I recommend his salmon or lamb kebabs. The salted caramel candies and ginger cake are a real treat. The atmosphere is perfect for an afternoon lounge. Come on a warm summer night and feel like you dinning somewhere in France. Best of all, not that many people know about it, so you'll feel right at home instead of standing in a long line elsewhere.

The Orcas Hotel Cafe is a historic landmark in the San Juan Islands, welcoming guests since 1904. The hotel offers Victorian rooms and a charming cafe with views of the Salish Sea and Orcas Ferry Landing. Its proximity to the ferry terminal makes it convenient for exploring the area. Visitors can enjoy delicious meals, such as beignets, while taking in stunning views of Shaw Island from the patio.
Wonderful! I was tired and the ferry I was due to take was canceled. I was allowed to stay past close and I felt very welcomed, and I also hand an excellent dinner! I'm really considering having my next bday here. Thanks again for the hospitality, the atmosphere was great.

Best view for coffee on the island. I arrive early to the ferry so I can grab a cup of coffee and some food. It overlooks the ferry dock so you can see your ferry coming in from a relaxing, historic venue. Great front porch for the warmer months. New owners have really upgraded the menu and quality of baked goods. We had a gluten free torte that was delicious.
Kevin A — Google review
Great breakfast burrito while waiting for the ferry. I ate at the cafe / counter service side. Decent menu (posted). The barista was accommodating and well versed. We hung out on the porch rocking chairs and waited for the ferry to come in.
James S — Google review
What a gem. We ate at the Cafe almost everyday of our stay. A small menu made it easy to choose from and the entrees were all very well prepared and tasty. Indoor seating offered a lively mix of tourist and locals energy while outside seating offered fresh air and a relaxing view of the bay. Every one on staff was friendly and had a lot of pride in providing excellent service.

The burgers here are phenomenal! And there's no better view for your dining than you'll find looking over a ferry dock and the Salish Sea

Beautiful spot for a lovely lunch outside while waiting for the ferry. Had a cup of clam chowder and a visit from a couple of cute bunnies while I ate my lunch in the garden area. A little pricey but delicious.
Jen O — Google review
Hands down BEST burger you will ever have! Everything is fresh and served on a perfectly toasted brioche bun. Not only that but the owner was an absolute rockstar dealing with our class reunion group of 25 or more. So gracious and definitely cares that his customers receive the BEST food with good service! A+++

Orcas Island is a beautiful, relaxing place to recharge, but if you're looking for a place to have dinner during the week, you won't have a lot of choices. Most of the restaurants are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but many of them are only open for 4 days. I happened to Google for places to eat at tonight and found the Orcas Hotel Cafe. This is their informal, casual eatery and you order your food at the counter, find a seat, and then they bring out your food. It's located right by the ferry so it's very easy to find and the view there was magnificent!! The main dining area had a packaged deal that offered food and jazz music for $68 tonight but we chose the casual dining option. My companions had fish and chips and the order was large enough to share.

Ernie's Aviation Cafe is a unique restaurant located right on the airport, housed in the original terminal building from the 1950s. The place is filled with aviation memorabilia, offering a great atmosphere for aviation enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy tasty food while taking in views of landing traffic. It's a popular spot among locals, known for its delicious popovers and low-key ambiance. Although it doesn't have a website, it's highly recommended by those who have visited.
Flew in, and enjoyed walking around the airport before dining here. Food was tasty, good views watching the landing traffic, and a fun lowkey spot. I’d love to stop in again when flying through the area!
Anders M — Google review
We waited for 45min for the food when restaurant is still quite empty. Korean sandwich is tasty. I love the vegetable scrambled egg. But the Adobo bowl is very disappointing. Only come with four wings and it cost 16 dollars.
Xiyun L — Google review
Initial thoughts are mixed. This was our first visit since Ernie's reopened. The Korean Beef Bulgogi rice bowl was good and tasty, the quality of beef very good; it was juicy and seasoned well. But the Fish Sandwich was tasteless and the bottom bun was as hard as a hockey puck and impossible to bite through! Prices seemed good until the tiny portion sizes and inedible sandwich were delivered to our table. Nice chef and good drink and chip choices, but not really wowed by the food. And for the small amount you get (btw, rice is too damn cheap to be charging $15 a bowl for it), it was not worth the cost. Better sandwich buns and decent portion sizes would go a long way to improve the place.

It looks tacky on the outside, but DO NOT LET THAT FOOL YOU!! This place is awesome!!! Once you step through the front door, the atmosphere changes entirely to a sweet, home like feel. The back patio looks like a garden you might expect to have in your backyard at home and has a cool view of the airport landing strip where you can watch cesnas land and take off. It's not loud at all like I thought it would be. They use fresh ingredients and even grow their own veggies for soups and such. The menu is limited, but based on what I had, I'd say everything is delicious. The hostess was friendly and sassy which made me laugh. She took very good care of us. I definitely recommend this place as a must go to spot when visiting Friday harbor.

Flew in and dined in. A great place to eat. James (owner) is friendly and cooks amazing food. A must eat for all general aviation pilots.
Sheheryar A — Google review
Kids may enjoy watching airplanes take off and land. A huge assortment of model planes hang from the ceiling. Also, a lot of original Ernie memorabilia displayed on the walls. In my opinion, the food was so-so at best. How it got 4.5 stars is beyond me. I wish there was less ketchup-like sauce on my katsu meat. Was it pork or chicken? I couldn't tell. The lumpia was a disappointment too especially since I was looking forward to some good lumpia. The parking was free.
C T — Google review
You can see a good view of small airplanes if you sit by the window seat. I should had opted for the turkey sandwich, like my friend did. It was still a good place to stop for lunch.
Jo D — Google review
My wife loved her Korean BBQ dish. I stuck with a tried and true bacon cheeseburger and fries. The food was great, as was the service with a smile. Hours are limited. Prices are normal for the island. We have only been twice and both times it was packed, which is a great sign.

Located in the heart of Eastsound, Island Skillet is a casual daytime eatery offering generous portions of breakfast classics, sandwiches, and wraps. The airy digs with patio tables make it a perfect spot for enjoying fresh and classic dishes while exploring Orcas Island. Visitors rave about the ham and cheese omelette, breakfast burritos, eggs Benedict, and bacon egg & cheese omelette. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming experience at this popular breakfast spot.
Was really impressed by this place! We were craving a more hearty diner style breakfast and they for sure delivered! The breakfast burrito was HUGE and very delicious. Packed with all kinds of toppings you can customize. Loved the little hot sauce rack they had with a bunch of varieties of sauces. The omelet was also perfectly cooked and tasty. Service was excellent. Great little breakfast spot on orcas island

Great spot for brunch after the ferry. I got the bacon and cheese omelette- which was enormous and amazing!! Great hash browns! My husband got the waffle, bacon and refried beans! He loved his meal and the beans had a really good flavor! We had to wait about 15 minutes but worth it! It is a very small place. Solid service!
Stephanie S — Google review
Island Skillet was recommended to me by one of my friends and it did not disappoint! We ended up eating here for breakfast/lunch 2 days in a row. The ham and cheese omelette was good overall. It was very cheesey but the eggs were a little overcooked. It came with a side of hash browns which were perfectly crunchy on the top as well as a side of toast (sour dough) which was delicious. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Breakfast burritos are phenomenal! We tried one with sausage and another with bacon and enjoyed them both. They are stuffed full of eggs, cheese, hash browns and meat of choice. For the price, it's a great deal! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ TBA (turkey bacon avocado) was a lunch time dish. It was a little pricey compared to the breakfast dishes, but was good. We ended up getting a side of Caesar salad which was a good break from sides of fries. The sandwich was stacked, the deli turkey was thick cut and grilled, the avocado was fresh, with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on sourdough bread. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I ordered a hot chocolate as well. It came in a big cup with whipped cream, I really enjoyed it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ We really enjoyed Island Skillet and highly recommend them!
Kevin R — Google review
We waited 30 minutes for a table and another 30 minutes for food..for what? Instant coffee (the worst coffee I ever had in my life), the sad and uncooked hash browns, and frozen waffles you can get in frozen section at supermarket...not only this, entire restaurant seemed disorganized also, one employee kid running around dining hall and kitchen didn't give us pleasant/relax weekend breakfast atmosphere.... Food quality was low and service was so slow. If you're looking to waste time and money, this place has you covered.
Juyeon T — Google review
The food is quite good probably the best breakfast food on the island (unless you want just espresso and a pastry), but it's in-person waiting line only, so you'd better have 30-60 minutes to wait before you eat, and they don't take phone reservations. The staff is weirdly combative and can be rude at times, although that might be because they're understaffed for the amount of volume they get.
Mike — Google review
Terrible experience with employee Rob. We were told the wait would be 15-20 min and at 35 min we were treated super rudely and flippantly by Rob when we asked how much longer it would be. We left and went to another shop that was great. We also saw multiple groups of people who the employees knew personally given seats before others who had been waiting. Highly recommend going anywhere else - so many other great options out here.
Heather P — Google review
We had a great breakfast at the skillet. Staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Limited seating in this place so make a Rez or get takeout. They have some very good burritos and breakfast sandwiches to go as well.
C L — Google review
The Service was great, friendly staff, it can be busy, however the waiting for it is worth it. The food was amazing, tasty, soft, done to perfection, they even have their very own Spicy 🔥🔥🔥 Hot Sauce Rack. The price is good and the portion is perfect. Delicious Breakfast. Definitely, I will return here again. Has indoor and outdoor seating.

Medio Cafe is a charming spot known for its simple yet high-quality food. The warm and sweet doughy perfection of the ugly donut left a lasting impression, striking the right balance between sweetness and saltiness. The breakfast chorizo burrito, while slightly plain in taste, was well-executed and left no greasy or heavy feeling after consumption. The friendly staff were accommodating to special drink orders and offered reassurance about customizing drinks to satisfaction.
Wow, what a gem!! We wandered in unbeknownst to us, an hour before they closed for the season. Luckily for us, we found the best coffee of our week-long vacation to Vancouver, BC and Friday Harbor. Even more impressive, though, was the super friendly service, kind conversation, and recommendations from two locals to us tourists. We enjoyed our pour overs, and were grateful to get some donuts, lattes, and beans. Everything was out of this world! Our son loved the little play area as well. Highly recommended for anyone in need of exceptional coffee!!
Dana V — Google review
Cute cafe inside a hotel. They have indoor and outdoor seating and tons of kids toys to play with outside so family friendly. I had the breakfast burrito, and ugly donut, and a honey lavender matcha latte for breakfast. The donut was big but a little too doughy and bland in flavor. Tons of sugar on the outside but somehow still lacking in flavor. My kid didn't even finish it and she loves donuts with sugar lol. Breakfast burrito was delicious. Big portion and filling. Like that it came with a side of hot sauce. Oh we also had the kimbap which was not bad but nothing spectacular that I've had at Korean restaurants. The honey lavender matcha was delicious though. Love their technique and the matcha is legit. Came back another day just for another drink. This time I got the strawberry matcha and my husband got the strawberry hojicha latte. Highly recommend both! The hojicha was earthy, smooth and so delicious. Definitely a must try if you're on San Juan Islands.

Really friendly staff. Much better food than you would expect in a small hotel lobby. Everything is really fresh and customizable. The quality of ingredients is superior to places outside around the hotel so definitely have your breakfast here! The coffee roast is amazing super smooth.

Tucked away in a hotel, this cafe is a hidden gem! All organic, bread made in house it was incredibly delicious!! We had the bacon and egg bagels and avocado toast with egg. Drip coffee was amazing too. Eating outside on the back patio made a great start for our day. Highly recommend!!
Amy R — Google review
Very simple but high quality food. We got an ugly donut and a breakfast chorizo burrito. The donut is a warm sweet doughy perfection.. Haven't had anything like it before. It wasn't over the top, just right in the ammount of sweetness to salty. The burrito on the other hand tasted slightly plain but there was no grease, no mess and more importantly I didn't feel bad after eating it. It was a very simple, healthy and superbly executed burrito. No complaints. This place is slightly pricey but you are on an island, paying extra costs for everything. It's about right when factoring inflation. 3.50 for the donut. 13 for the burrito. Also, water is avaliable self serve. The only other thing I'd like to add is the inside is beautifully designed. It's inside a hotel lobby, but Medio is a different vibe.

A Hidden Gem in Friday Harbor! Medio Café is an absolute delight! The service is consistently warm and welcoming, making every visit a pleasure. Their menu is fantastic, offering something delicious for everyone, and the pour-over coffee is truly next level—smooth, rich, and perfectly brewed. Prices are very reasonable, and it’s a great spot to bring the kids, too. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in town!
Joe V — Google review
We stopped at this little café for lunch and had a great experience. Even on a Saturday it wasn’t too busy, which made it easy to relax. While we didn’t try the coffee, the food was tasty and they offer some healthy options along with some baked goods made in-house. The kids play area was a great touch, and the whole place had a calm, peaceful atmosphere that made it an enjoyable stop.

As a local and telecommuter I have really appreciated Medio Cafe this summer. Team is kind, plenty of space to set up for a spell. Food is good to great. Coffee & tea is great to ballad-worthy. Hoping they can stay open deep into the off-season here. Parking is great
