Fish and seafood restaurant
Located in the heart of Whitstable, Wheelers Oyster Bar is a historic gem that has been serving market-fresh seafood since 1856. The iconic pink-and-blue painted building is a must-visit spot for both visitors and locals. This bring-your-own-affair restaurant offers an array of fresh local seafood, including oysters, crab, mussels, whelks, and more.
Loved the food here! Quick service and very fresh. We had Guinness oysters and Yuzu oysters. There was a lot of ice on the Yuzu oysters so just be careful if you have sensitive teeth. The Guinness oysters were very light and delicious. To start they give a delicious home made bread and pesto. Thanks!

First place you need to visit if you are traveling to Whitstable. What an incredible place to have seafood, it was amazing. Delicious, tasty, we arrived just 4 min before they closed the kitchen and we managed to order 3 plates and 1 starter. The plating, the taste, the service everything worth it! Super recommend it. We will come back!
Laura M — Google review
The dining areas are compact and bijou so it does pay to book as they like to pace the kitchen. The food is unctuous and packed with flavour. Many of the dishes on offer have Far Eastern influences and flavours. This is unusually a BYO but there is a brilliant off licence opposite. The tiny but… for us was some of the fish was a tiny bit overcooked but it’s a delicious place for lunch and we will return.
Alison M — Google review
Definitely a busy place. When we got there, only a handle of seats was available and they were all taken. We ordered takeout. We just needed to tell what we wanted to the staff with our names. When the food is ready, your name would be shouted out. Price is ok compared to other oysters 🦪 shops around. We found the deep fried oysters were quite interesting. The raw ones were fresh, no incidents afterwards.
J. Q — Google review
We read about this place in the timeout magazine article about day trips from London. The town is absolutely charming, and this place was definitely worth a stop in. I would say that the staff could be a little bit kinder, they seemed a little bit stressed out and not really happy to deal with some basic questions. i’m sure it is difficult to operate this kind of an establishment in a tourist town, but you guys can do a little bit better. Our oysters were delicious and it seemed like everybody enjoyed what they had. You would think so since this is a fishing port and they’re getting everything fresh from the sea. I would say it seems a bit pricey for what it is. Pro tip, the place is BYOB and you can get a bottle of something nice very close by to bring in with you. The interior is very cute.

Delicious Guinness fried oysters. Waited a while but shows the love and care they put in to make sure what you eat is top notch. No need to add anything, just pick them up and enjoy each bite of something you must experience when in Whitstable.

You will never regret getting a table at this charming small restaurant no matter the time of the day. Same some space for real tasty fresh seafood !! Oh also BYOB !!

British restaurant
The Pearsons Arms is a charming pub and restaurant located by the beach, offering a delightful dining experience with its modern British cuisine featuring locally sourced seafood, meat, and cheese. The establishment boasts an inviting decor with driftwood walls, comfortable seating options including leather armchairs and captain's chairs, as well as thoughtful details such as beautiful flower arrangements on the bar counter.
Best place for a Sunday Roast in Whitstable. Traditional, cosy seaside pub. Me and my bf have tried the chicken, beef and pork roast and all taste flavourful & delicious! Staff are extremely attentive and they do not put a large service charge on the bill (unless in a larger group) which is a bonus as you are free to tip as you please (which we do because they deserve it). Live music is always a nice touch and you have a lovely view of the seafront. Surprised by some of the bad reviews on here, they seem quite harsh in my opinion.

Booked table 10 upstairs - table with a view of the sea. There are a few stairs to get to the top if you have mobility issues. There is also seating in the main entrance which is the bar area and down a few steps is another seating area and the toilets (the only toilets) staff were really friendly and attentive without being overwhelming and the food was excellent. We had Orzotto - creamy and. Dry delightful with a side of mozzarella and tomatoes - which went very well. Coffee to finish and well worth the visit .

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Pearson's Arms in Whitstable, and honestly, it’s exactly what you want from a seaside pub. While the exterior might look unassuming, stepping inside is like getting a warm hug. It instantly feels welcoming, especially on a chilly day, thanks to that lovely open fire crackling away in the hearth. When I visited it was very busy, and there was nowhere to sit which was a pity. What I particularly appreciate is that The Pearson’s Arms operates as a genuine free house. This means they aren’t tied to one single brewery, and it shows in their selection. The range of real ales, local Kentish brews, and fine wines on offer is genuinely impressive and clearly curated with care. It's fantastic to have such freedom of choice when you're looking for the perfect accompaniment to the sea air. I went for lunch, opting for a seasonal seafood dish, which was clearly made with locally-sourced ingredients and expertly cooked. The upstairs dining area, with its fantastic views over the bay, gives it a gastro-pub feel, while the bar downstairs retains that proper, cozy English pub charm. Now, a crucial tip: if you plan on visiting for their renowned Sunday roast or just a weekend meal, booking a table is absolutely advisable. I saw just how busy it gets—the place was absolutely packed! Don't risk turning up without a reservation, or you'll likely face a long wait. It's a highly popular spot for a very good reason. I’m already planning my next trip back; it’s a perfect slice of Kentish coastal hospitality.

Once again delved into the Kent seaside after hearing rumblings around The Pearsons arms, after a brief scan of the menu online we had little choice but to immediately book. So a table for 4 it was. This pub and restaurant offers up some of the finest cocktails and food around, I’m sure it is adored by locals and what a Sunday it was. Without hesitation my partner and I opted for no starter however going off the lunch we had I wouldn’t hesitate to try any and all of them. Upon arrival I went straight into the drinks menu, we would usually opt for wine however I am a sucker for a Bloody Mary. And despite it taking what seemed a long time to prepare (not a criticism as it was absolutely perfect) I can say with some certainty it has raised the Bloody Mary bar exceptionally high. We were seated upstairs and the views are stunning looking out over the bay. My friends decided on lamb and beef, and raved about it. Everything cooked to utter perfection, we decided on the roast sharer, it is hard to put into words and pictures how wonderfully it is presented, with various cuts of delightfully succulent meats. I was torn between it all, the pork comes with a crackling that pretty much knocked my socks off, the chicken was so tender, the lamb and beef cooked to a perfect medium rare. A massive selection of veg, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, gravy, the list goes on. I was sceptical around the price tag however you are getting every pennies worth of food and plenty left that they happily bagged up for us to take. I couldn’t recommend this place enough, and am eager to head along to some of there specials nights to see what else the wizards in the kitchen can prepare. After stuffing my face and enjoying a lovely bottle of Sauvignon we headed downstairs just in time to catch the amazing Thomas Abrahams. I have seen him on a few occasions but he literally had the entire pub bouncing with his solo guitar performances, rarely stopping for air. The atmosphere was incredible, everyone in such a positive mood and dancing I’m sure long after we left. I often find I’m looking for things that maybe could be different, but I wouldn’t change a single thing, it’s a solid 5*, if you get the chance to experience this Sunday greatness don’t turn it down. I look forward to returning in the near future. Hats off to the bar team, chefs, restaurant team and everyone involved in making it quite possibly the finest Sunday lunch cuisine we have experienced to date. You will not be disappointed.

Wow what a fantastic bar. Great warm welcome from the staff. We had the 5 small plates OMG they were so tasty, especially the chipolatas from Jim's family butchers down the road. Prawns were amazing as was the whipped feta just gorgeous. We were extra greedy and also had the Tel pork burger and crab monsieur and on a Monday they have draft beer for £5. Will definitely be back. They are also dog friendly 🐕
Jacqueline C — Google review
Absolutely fantastic pub! The atmosphere was brilliant from the moment we walked in — warm, lively, and welcoming. The fireplace adds a lovely touch, especially on a chilly evening, and the live music gave the place a great vibe without being too loud. It’s also dog-friendly, which makes it even better. The selection of beers and gins seemed endless — something for everyone, and all top quality. We were genuinely impressed and left very pleased. Definitely coming back!
Dzintars G — Google review
Have previously eaten here and was not at all impressed with the roast, we very nearly went elsewhere for food. We decided to give it another chance though and just had the most amazing Saturday afternoon in Pearson's. We lucked out and got the best seats in the house with comfy chairs and a roaring fire. The food was to die for. Best onion rings I've ever had, and my mussels were beautiful. Chicken burger was delicious (although a bit messy!) with a really good curry sauce. Had a rose aperol spritz which was divine. Lovely to see local produce on the menu, meat from the local butcher, bread from the bakery in town. Whitstable is famed for it's oysters however and the ones on the menu were from Maldon. Baffling. Menu was a little bit confusing as it didn't say that mussels as a main came with fries. Staff were lovely although a bit slow to serve, four of them stood behind the bar and it took a good minute for them to acknowledge me. I was the only person at the bar. Very minor points though, just a shame as otherwise perfect.

The Lobster Shack is a warm and inviting eatery that offers a variety of seafood dishes, from lobster to fried fish, all accompanied by a selection of beers. It's the perfect place for a sit-down meal or a more casual beachside experience. With its canteen-style setup, this bustling beach shack serves up delicious plates of lobster and fish and chips at quite a pace. Additionally, it features an oyster bar with various shellfish options and toppings.
some of the most delicious oysters i’ve ever had! juicy and large even tho not prime season. the fish is also so fresh, and there are gluten free options available too. the lobster and shrimp roll was also a showstopper, loaded and delectable! reasonable prices for the quality you’re getting. also amazing views and breeze to be right on the water. seating was fast and ordering was easy via qr but you could go up to ask any questions without worry and everyone was accommodating. great vibes!

The food and atmosphere was excellent! Decided to splurge a little to try the grilled lobster half and it didn’t disappoint at all. It was so fresh and delicious! Paired well with the white wine. The oysters were very fresh and amazing with Tabasco sauce. Service was good but I’m only giving 4 stars because the staffs were not very proactive to welcome me upon arrival. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon slightly after 12:00pm when the restaurant had only 20% customers. Highly recommend to come before 12:30pm on a weekend because the restaurant was completely full by 1:00pm. Indoor and outdoor dining had good atmosphere. Worth a visit!

Bustling shack by the sea with tasty classics. The Lobster Shack turned out to be a wonderfully atmospheric place. I found it thanks to a GPT chat recommendation, and the fish and chips were truly delicious. We skipped the oysters—though they’re clearly a highlight for many visitors— as well as the huge seafood platter that’s very popular. From what I’d read, I expected a fine-dining spot, but in reality it feels more like a big, lively seaside fish-and-chips bar. And honestly, that suits the location perfectly. Right on the shore, with plenty of outdoor seating, it has a relaxed, authentic charm. We visited during the May Bank Holidays; it was windy, so we sat inside. It was crowded and a little noisy, but the food was worth it. The stainless-steel tables add to the down-to-earth vibe—almost as if they were once used for fish prep and simply left for diners. Parking is available nearby, though finding a space can be tricky. Overall: tasty, atmospheric, and definitely worth trying.

A simple birthday treat. Sat outside and enjoyed great quality oysters, lobster, shrimp & lobster baguette, good chips, zero beer for me and a glass of champagne for the birthday lady! Efficient and friendly service. Order from the table via QR codes. View...looking out across the estuary. Very cool and laid back.

My first time in Whitstable. My husband suggested we try the Lobster Shack. We tried to make a booking, but he was told it was fully booked. We would have gone somewhere else but we went in and asked for a table for tro and we're given a choice of tables. You book your order via a QR code on the table. It worked very well our drinks arrive quickly. Not long after the food we ordered. We both had lobster thermidor a full and half lobster 🦞 it comes with chips and a salad. The food is delicious 😋 and piping hot. If you sit inside you can see the staff cooking everything, it's amazing how quick they work with a full restaurant and customers sitting outside. I definitely recommend eating here. There is a good choice of food on the menu and the service is quick.

Easily the best fish and chips Ive had. Os delicious! Highly recommend. Staff was great as well! Arrived moments after they opened, and was quickly served.

My boyfriend and I came here for the holidays. We ordered half a lobster and chips, butter shrimp with salad, and fried shrimp with chips. The restaurant atmosphere is very good. It is next to the sea, quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. There are seats inside and outside by the sea. The staff is friendly and attentive to service.

This place was an unexpected surprise to us. When I was looking for directions on the Google map, I saw the lobster 🦞 shack and we immediately decided to head there. We weren't disappointed at all. Lobster was ver tasty, nicely done served with plenty of chips and salad. I loved the oysters. I ordered some twice. They have happy oysters hours from 5pm to 6pm for half price. We had lunch then went fie a long walk along the beach then came back for the happy hour to eat more oysters. Whitstable is the place for oysters lovers. Love it.

Harbour Street Tapas is a small, simply decorated restaurant in Whitstable that offers an updated take on Spanish sharing plates with a focus on local seafood. The intimate yet airy space was opened by owner Lee Murray, who is well-known for selling the best Kentish produce at Murrays General Store in Canterbury. The menu features straight-up Spanish tapas like tortillas, ham croqueta balls, and grilled octopus with spicy Canarian mojo picon.
First time coming to the harbour street tapas and it won’t be the last! Started with some delicious tinto de verano which definitely went down a treat. And then the service was quick, attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, generous and beautiful. What more could you want?

Not been here for a long time and wish we had come back sooner. Very busy and fortunately dropped in ahead of time to reserve a table. Despite being busy the service was friendly and helpful, food almost came too quickly as would have happily lingered longer. Whitebean Hummus and the asparagus tortilla were delicious but hard to find fault with any of the dishes we tried.

OMG it's just so good...after 2 weeks in Andlusian Spain (predominantly eating our weight in octopus) we just needed a foodie fix, and boy did HST deliver; great service, amazing food & good choice of wine....& delighted to find Galician Octopus (pictured here with the accompanying potatoes) as their special....and yes it was...very special.

We had a wonderful time here as the food was amazing. Some highlights would be the fried baby squid and grilled tiger pawns. We also ordered pan con tomate, padron peppers and duroc pork ribs. The portions were relatively large and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Spanish food.

Delish lunch with my son 😋, it was a pretty dreary day, so put some sunshine in it! Octopus was our favourite, superb balance of flavours. Fluffy crispy patatas bravas, croquetas chicken and leek, could have eaten a bowl full !!

Such a fantastic meal! Everything we ordered was beyond delicious! So so tasty and one of the best meals we have had in a long time. All the staff were so welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. My partner has an egg allergy and the staff were so kind and helpful, they really took the time to go through the menu to show him what he could have and were extremely accommodating. A special thank you to waitress Leah who was especially considerate and knowledgable about allergies. Sometimes eating out can be a little tricky but she made the whole experience very easy and enjoyable for us :-)

The Forge is a no-frills oyster shack located by the beach in Whitstable. It offers a selection of local seafood, including juicy oysters that can be enjoyed while sitting on the wall overlooking the sea. The unassuming shack also serves local beer, coffee, scampi and chips, and sugary hot donuts. Visitors can watch the staff shuck oysters on-site before purchasing their own.
Great spot for some fresh oysters. The native oysters are meaty, but they also have rock oysters as an option. The chips are chunky and great. Good range of drinks on tap (& bottles). Fast service. Very popular with tourists and locals - location is key. There's outdoor seating available.

This is our go to fish and chips in Whitstable. We always return as it’s so fresh and you can sit and look out to sea while you eat. The portions are really big so we like to share a large cod and chips between two and grab a set of oysters to go with. The drinks are all local which is lovely, I would particularly recommend the oyster stouts. You can also get donuts fresh to order and proper ice cream. The staff are always very friendly and laid back even when you can see that they’re under pressure. It’s such a nice atmosphere to be able to see the oysters being shucked on the seafront or watch your donuts go through the machine. Will always recommend the Forge and will always return!

There is a happy hour between 5 pm to o 6 pm for oysters everyday. The oysters is fresh and delicious 😋 Their chicken dishes are great, too. I highly recommend this place when you visit Whitstable.

Lovely rustic experience right by the seashore and yacht club. Delicious breakfast barms and good coffee. Perfect spot for a midway stop on a walk along the beachfront. Very very handy for our stay at the Whitstable beach house. Shame missed the happy hour oysters - fantastic value
David P — Google review
Does exactly what it says - no frills oyster shack! Happy hour 5-6pm for £1.25 oysters or 6 for £6.25. We sadly missed it by 10 minutes but even full priced it isn’t too bad (£2.50 per oyster or 6 for £12.50). Would definitely recommend for the oysters and al fresco beachside drinks. As other reviewers have said - probably not the best spot in Whitstable for fish and chips.

Great, fresh oysters, turnover so fast you know they've never been lying around for long. Big portion of cod and chips and locally brewed beer, including the famous oyster stout. Would go back, without a doubt.
Kev H — Google review
Nestled near the scenic shores of Tinkerton, Forge offers a delightful open-air dining experience that perfectly complements its standout fish and chips. The fresh sea breeze and relaxed beachside atmosphere set the stage for a meal that’s both comforting and memorable. The fish was beautifully cooked—golden and crispy on the outside, with tender, flaky white meat inside. The batter had just the right balance of seasoning and crunch, never overpowering the delicate flavor of the fish. Paired with perfectly cooked chips—crisp on the outside, fluffy within—it was a classic done exceptionally well. What elevates the experience is the setting. The open-air layout lets you soak in the coastal views and ambiance, making it ideal for a laid-back lunch or early evening meal. Friendly service rounds out the visit, making Forge a must-visit spot for anyone craving a quality seaside fish and chips.

Old Neptune is a charming Victorian inn located right on the beach, featuring period decor and offering pub-grub along with live music. Known as "Neppy" to locals, it is one of the few pubs found on the beaches of Britain. The pub provides an ideal spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of the sea while sipping a beer on the beach.
It's very rare to find a pub in England built right on the coast, so I really was excited to stop in here. The food and the beer were phenomenal. I literally had the best beer I've ever had in my life here, and it was at no other pub in town or anywhere else I've ever been. Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter. Apparently the owner keeps it on tap here, and I think that is a great decision. All the staff were very friendly, they accommodated us when we arrived late by keeping the kitchen open for us. They do trivia night once a week here that seems like a good time. They have a patio out back that offers a great view of the setting Sun over the Thames Estuary. Parking would be an issue, there aren't many spots here. But I feel like a lot of people are within walking distance and the pub is right off of the waterfront trail. It was also a bit more expensive than other pubs, but I can understand that given it's fantastic location and good food.

This is a great pub right on the beach at Whitstable!! Always very busy because of where it is! We were lucky and got a seat inside, just before the lunchtime rush! We had the fish and chips as the fish is fresh from the harbour! There was a bit of a wait for lunch but it wasn't too long! There's real ale and plenty of other drinks to choose!! The food was hot and delicious as well!

This charming old pub right on the beach is a must if you are visiting this cute town of Whitstable. It was definitely hopping on the early August day that we stopped in and we were able to secure a beachside picnic table for our group of three adults and three children. We did see some reservation signs on certain tables so it seems you can plan for an outdoor table in advance. We had the fish and chips which was very tasty and a couple of pints of ale, which was also good, the ladies working behind the counter were very sweet and helpful.

Great old timey quirky pub with plenty of tap choice, great selection of top shelf liquor and BBQ food outside on the terrace literally at the top of the beach. Sounds of people enjoying themselves all around the massive seating area, waves lapping the beach 40 ft away and very friendly accommodating staff serving drinks to tables with hot & cold food. Will be returning.

To be honest, the "Taps" is our go-to bar in Whitstable. Craft Beer and Gin... They don't sell vodka or larger, saying that they recently had a very good "Smoked Lager".. The cocktail menu is mainly Gin based, has you would expect, and they have an amazing range of Negroni's (Chestnut) being the Christmas/Winter special. It's a smallish bar, ideal for couples, small groups of friends or individuals reading a book, and enjoying a "crafty" pint. The things that work about the taps is the welcoming staff, a good ever changing selection of craft beers, stouts, porters & sours and an impressive Gin selection (including a few distilled by the Taps, unavailable elsewhere, but if you like them, you can actually buy a bottle to take home). If you are unsure what "beer" to have off of the 12 Taps menu, then I'd recommend a flight that gives you 3 glasses a third of a pint of 3 different beers. So you can go all out and have an IPA, a Stout, and a Sour to try.. Or has I do, go 3 dark beers 🍻 But they don't sell the well-known Irish Stout or cask beers. If unsure, speak with the staff, they are knowledgeable about beer and their stock. Just so you know, the board can be found on the wall opposite the bar, you only have to remember the number, not the full name 😉😋 If you're in Whitstable and are not really one for the big high st "pubs" but prefer a good pint in a friendly bar, then the Taps is for you. They don't sell food, just bar snacks 👍🏽

Finally made it here, i visit Whitstable regularly and always miss this little beauty. Decor is fun modern and shabby, seating is varying in chair heights and size, with tables to match which adds to the fun cobbled together feel. lots of choice for all alcoholic drinks. Decent, not huge selection of alcohol free beers but decent. Small but cosy garden, which on a sunny day i can imagine is a sun trap. Staff are warm and friendly. Will pop back soon 👍

Outstanding tap beer selection here. The left handed Giant hazy was superb and fabulous service. Cosy pub, with warm lighting. A must visit if you’re in there area.

Lovely pub with an excellent selection of really good craft beers - 12 of them on tap, hence the name. Really nice offering of a tasting selection of any three one third pints if you’re struggling to choose! Their own Whitstable gin is also well worth trying - very smooth with refreshing rosemary and kelp. Nice snacks to accompany and a selection of card and board games. Nice little garden at the back as well. Good music too.

What a find. I am the kind of guy who asks the landlady if they sell gin 🫠 Gin menu acquired and the beer tap menu containing funnily 12 options. 3rds in a flight tray are always a bonus to try a few things. The soft drinks options for our little one was not run of the mill which she enjoyed. Spent a few hours here which was wonderful in the sun trapped garden out the back. 10/10 would return without hesitation. Thank you for having an uneducated tourist.

I had a fantastic experience at this pub. They have an impressive selection of craft beers. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and perfect for relaxing with friends or enjoying a solo pint. The staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and really knew their stuff. Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast or just getting into it, this place is well worth a visit.

We had just finished our meal at the Star of Bengal. It was late and we just wanted a quick drink. Clearly they had gins! Nice place.
Ian F — Google review
Whilst I was sat in this pub enjoying a refreshing pint, I decided to go through the reviews and I noticed a common statement that a particular member of staff was getting quite a lot of grief for being 'unpleasant'. It's safe to say, sometimes you hear things from others that don't appear to be true. As when I went to this bar with my family she was lovely, she went as far as to bring treats for the dogs and a bowl of water. I absolutely loved sitting in this pub and I really don't think she deserves the stick given, however, I always like to think we all have our off days so perhaps those reviews are from a group on that day. Either way, enough of that, why is this a good pub? Well it's self explanatory, it has 12 taps of different cask beverages and my assumption is this changes quite regularly so there's always something new to try.

Samphire is a charming bistro in Whitstable, offering a rustic ambiance and an elegant black and gold Art Deco inspired exterior. The menu features local fish, meat, and seasonal greens, with a focus on fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Open all day, the bistro serves up breakfast favorites like kedgeree and eggs benedict prepared by chef Billy Stock.
One word, WOW! This place did not disappoint. We had the crab rarebit to start, and this was a 20/10. My sister had the prawns and she said they were super meaty and flavoursome. The focaccia was the best we’ve ever had! We then had roast dinners, chicken supreme and beef, with a side of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. The portion sizes were ample, and great value for money. The staff were warm and friendly and super attentive. Will definitely be returning!

I searched for a resturant in Whitstable for a Saturday evening dinner with my partner. After looking at various resturants I picked Samphire based on the great reviews and enticing food pics. On arrival we received a warm welcome and was shown to our seat. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. We ordered some cocktails which were okay. We ordered starters which arrived separately and I had finished mine before my partner's came which the server apologised for. I chose the oysters which were really fresh and tasty. Unfortunately my partners grilled prawns really lacked in flavour. After 40 mins the mains arrived. For my main I ordered the fish pie which many reviewers absolutely raved about. It was okay at best. . . Really under seasoned and bland unfortunately. My partner ordered the steak which came with no accompaniments, so he chose the potatoe pave. The steak itself was tasty and the potatoes were okay but quite bland. The overall experience was lacking based on the reviews of others and in my opinion not worth the price. Not worth a second visit.

A real treat. Hearty and flavourful meals. Delicious ham with creamed leeks, fish pie and Creole mussels. Brilliant vegetarian options which everybody enjoyed. Traditional desserts with excellent textures. Very long and interesting wine list. Friendly staff and jolly atmosphere. The only thing that spoiled it was that a children’s dish from the children’s menu was spicy, it didn’t state this, and she didn’t eat much.

Samphire is a wonderful independent, family-run bistro in the heart of Whitstable, offering a true taste of Kent and the South East. Their commitment to fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms, fishermen, and producers is evident in every dish. The ½ dozen oysters with juniper mignonette are a must-try—exceptionally fresh, plump, and bursting with flavor. For dessert, the Miso & sea salt brownie with miso & caramel ice cream is an absolute delight. The touch of sea salt elevates the flavors, creating a perfect balance of sweetness and umami. A fantastic spot to experience local cuisine with a warm and welcoming atmosphere!

We went to Samphire for the lunch menu. I had the Oysters with Pickled Apple to start, and they were amazing, followed by Holy Trinity Mussels and Bread & Butter Pudding. My wife had the Terrine to start followed by Holy Trinity Mussels and Sticky toffee pudding. All the food was exceptional and the staff were really friendly.

Great food. I understand some people like the patatas bravas served where the sauce and potatoes are separate, but we don't. They could have given us a choice. Not being in the area, I've not been here for years. Great Long Island Iced Tea Jojo's style. Definitely be back now I'm back in the area.

an amazing spot with lots of unique and delicious tapas! their seasonal menu is full of gems and the croquetas i had were absolutely delectable, full of flavour and the perfect balance of crispiness and softness. they were so unique to anything i’ve had and unforgettable! the hummus and tzatziki with bread was delicious and refreshing, the gluten free bread being made in house was such a nice treat! the desserts are also showstopping, we had the sticky toffee ice cream, lemon posset, and cinnamon/blood orange ice cream and everything was so fresh and bespoke. we had an amazing time here, sitting outside with the breeze, and al the staff were super lovely as well — in particular edie was a complete star, double checking what we ordered with the kitchen to insure there was no risk to allergies, recommending amazing food, and all around being kind and great. 100% recommendations and wish we could come back everyday!

Jojo’s 19:45 - July 12th - 150£ The food was good. Enjoyed it. 2 starters, salad, and one or two other things, no dessert and 4 drinks, came to about 150£. Was to be expected as this restaurant is set in a lovely location and stand alone. Service was good. One thing I did like is that I was called prior to booking to be told that my table of preference wouldn’t be available but that we’d be close to a window (which, it turned out, the entire place is pretty much windows) and that extra care prior to visiting was nice. In house service, was nice, a little rushed, but pleasant, polite and nice. Very simple and lovely dining experience. When in the area again, will definitely return! Keep up the good work guys.

I booked Jojos as the venue for my 60th Birthday party and I could not have been more delighted with the way the evening went. In fact, even before the night itself, Joe was helpful, approachable and professional when we discussed what I might want for my event. On the night, the setting was stunning with the sun setting over Tankerton Slopes. The space is warm, beautiful and tastefully decorated. I’d booked a swing band who set up in a dedicated space with plenty of room for dancing, and a Prosecco bar welcomed my guests. The food was, as ever, delicious and plentiful and the staff super friendly, helpful and obliging. I am so grateful for all their help in ensuring I was able to throw such a fun evening. Honestly, my guests are still talking about the fabulous food. Special mention must go to the selection of cheeses! Incredible.

Visiting a year later, Jojo’s continues to impress once again. The service is excellent, friendly and attentive staff without being too much. The view is incredible and the ambiance in the evening is stunning. The drinks are always good with a great choice of cocktails and the food is brilliant, feels like London quality but very reasonably priced. With this being our second trip whilst on holiday, we decided it’s probably one of our favourite restaurants in the UK when all elements are considered. If you’re visiting the area, this is a MUST visit.

First time in the New Inn pub I’m from London. Great experience polite staff very friendly & helpful. The was a bit of commotion Friday evening regarding a group of people who booked in for 5 people but turned up with 10 people all wanted pizzas and then demanded to pay for their bill after waiting half an hour for freshly made pizzas which they could only cook 2 at a time due to small oven. The customers were rude and very in your face towards the staff. They were shouting in the female staffs face and not just one of them 5 of them leaning over bar but the pub carried out all the procedures with the Covid situation all in place in which they were breaking the rules.

What happened to this pub? It used to be so friendly and welcoming. Now, we feel we have two heads when we’re in here and the bar staff are not interested in making this a pleasurable pub. Thank goodness there’s a pub nearby who actually want to see you drink there.

This is an absolutely brilliant find - service was warm and friendly and prompt, food was superb and price was good too. We visited Ossies Best Fish and Chips and had a fantastic experience. We ordered cod and haddock with chips, along with curry sauce and tartar sauce. Both types of fish were excellent – the cod was fresh and flaky, while the haddock had a lovely rich flavour, all coated in perfectly crisp batter. The chips were golden and delicious, and the sauces really complemented the meal. The portions were generous and great value for money. The location makes it even better, as it’s right by the beach – the perfect setting to enjoy classic fish and chips by the sea. We decided to eat in. Me and my wife ordered a cod and haddock with chips and mushy peas respectively. Took a little while to arrive but it was all hot, fresh and tasty. The batter on the fish was crispy, you could taste the full flavour of the fish. The portion was quite big even for the regular, particularly the fish. My wife said the chips were anemic but no issues with flavour.

We visited Whitstable and the only reason we end up buying some wine at the Offy is because the restaurant in front, The wheeler Fish Bar, doesn’t not offer wine in their menu but recommends to buy it from The Offy. While my wife was sat at the restaurant table I rapidly went to The Offy, with the hope of finding a cold bottle of a good white wine. I asked Anna, lovely lady behind the counter, if they had Albariño white wine, and she, very kindly and knowledgeable, showed me the 2 cold options available. The Portuguese and the Spanish that they had in the fridge. However, Anna recommended me another Spanish white wine that would perfectly pair with the food that the restaurant in front serves. I kindly appreciated her suggestions but bought what, in my opinion, was the best pairing option for seafood. We enjoyed very much the bottle of Spanish Albariño and, when we left the restaurant, we came back to The Offy, and bought the bottle that Anna suggested to try it at home whenever we prepare a great fish meal. I will update this review when I try the Rueda wine you recommended. Thank you very much Anna.

Visited during the early afternoon on a Sunday in late July. Good variety of drinks. Solid selection of beers and it was good to see that most are kept in a refrigerator. Also nice to see that they have a decent emphasis on local breweries. Prices seemed about or for the course. Organised shop, well stocked without seeming overly stuffed. Likely one of the better if not the best options for beer selection in Whitstable. I would happily return.

Having just gone for a brisk walk with my husband and daughter. I decided I wanted to see the weekend in with a nice bottle of wine, I popped into the Offy to scope out their selection of wines. Two gentleman walked in maybe ten minutes after me, looking for sweet wine for their wives, they preceded to ask the women behind the counter for some help, to which she was more then happy to serve. They chose two bottles of wine, when they went to pay she asked them if they were locals to which they replied “yes” she said great, locals get 5% off wine. Obviously they were please to hear, I’m sure any local would be. After they left, having spent about 20 minutes in the shop just looking at the various bottles, I grab myself a Pinot Noir took it to the counter, to the same lady who served the two men 10 minutes earlier-we went through a normal transactional conversation. Before taking out my card to pay I said “I heard that locals get 5% off, to which she looked at me and said “Yes. Are you local, living here 24 hours a day all the time”. I said “Yes”. We then completed our transaction. I walked out the shop jumped in the car, where my husband and daughter sat and waited for me. We drove down the road I told my husband what went down, and he said “Well that’s unacceptable, why did she ask you that and not the other men” I shrugged it off when I walked out, but it was my husband who I’ll add is Caucasian highlighting this unconscious racism to me. I would have been prepared to forget about it however when I got home I felt very unsettled and hurt, which is why I’m writing this review. I’ve lived in Whitstable for 7 years I’ve actually been in the Offy quite a few times to buy wine and served by a lovely gentleman. Unfortunately he wasn’t serving today, a shame really as I won’t be going back and I feel the women behind the counter needs to think when she’s offering two white men the chance to save money because their locals and how questioning a black women about if she is local and lives here 24 hours, every day. There are still times in Whitstable when you are reminded that you are still the “other”. The wine is nice though. Thanks

The Whitstable Oyster Company is a charming seafood restaurant located in a whitewashed former oyster store, offering a classic rustic setting and stunning views of the oyster grounds. Situated right on the beachfront, this establishment serves mouthwatering seafood, including fresh oysters, fish, and lobster. With its large terrace, wood-paneled rooms, and trendy lounge bar, it provides an ideal spot for enjoying delectable dishes by the sea.
The food here is amazing! We visit Whitstable from time to time just to eat here in this restaurant. The fish and sea food is mega fresh and prepared in a delicious way. There is plenty of space in a few rooms and a garden in front of the sea but I would suggest to book a table especially over the weekend and Summer time. The stuff improved from our last visit. The service was quick and very friendly. The food was amazing as always. The choice of a sea food is pretty good here. They also serve very nice desserts and good coffee. The toilets are spacious and clean. Highly recommend.

A wonderful spot to enjoy excellent fish. The quality is superb, with extremely fresh fish caught daily. The beach is just outside the restaurant truly a beautiful place. The interior is classy, very clean, and welcoming. All the staff are absolutely very kind and helpful. A little gem facing the sea. Prices are fair, considering the extremely high quality of the freshly caught fish. Absolutely recommended. Booking is mandatory. There is an indoor restroom, also accessible for those who use a wheelchair.

Thought this may just be a tourist cliche but we were very pleasantly surprised. Looks almost like a Disney ye olde pirate set but very nicely done and the food was superb. Nice staff. Even though drinks aren’t cheap it felt like money very well spent.

We came in to have a lunch on a busy Saturday and were kindly seated in the bar area since we didn't have a reservation in the restaurant which was full. The service was welcoming and we didn't have to wait long for the mains. We went for grilled mackerel and grilled plaice and both were good but the plaice really stood out and was absolutely deliciously cooked. I would really recommend it to anyone who loves fish. Overall the place is nice and you could also accompany your meal with local ales and stouts.

Good food, nice ambience but let down by slow service. Starters (crab & scallops) were great, the grey mullet fish was a bit chewy and overcooked. I appreciated that the service moved us outside when space became available. But the servers were not attentive, our drinks did not come until we asked about them when we were eating the starters already. Great beers from their brewery next door.

Amazing dining 5 course tasting menu experience. From the snacks right through the courses of Breads, Oysters, Slip Sole, Roast Venison and Cheeseboard, and the wines were reasonably priced - everything was spot, including the service and atmosphere.

Fantastic Michelin quality meal experience near the seaside. Very relaxed atmosphere. Local garden produce, good wine and beautiful creations by the chefs. Atmosphere is a bit dry but that was just for lunch. Highly recommended

Excellent food - I had oysters with caviar, monkfish, rib eye of roast beef, chocolate mouse, bottle of Chapel Down Brut. Stayed in one of the cabins which was idyllic. They leave you lots of breakfast fixings too. Paradise.

This place is a little out of the way but it is more than worth a visit. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu but my favourite dishes were the hors d'oeuvres (they aren't listed on the menu but they are brilliant,)the turbot and the quince soufflé. If you're visiting Whitstable it is well worth the detour to try out.

Fantastic meal. I’ve been wanting to visit for many years and it did not disappoint. Everything was spot on - highlights were the breads, the oysters, the sea bass, the sauces (classical French) and the soufflé. The wine list was also very affordable.

A fantastic experience worth the three hour trip from Norfolk!! We chose from the five course tasting menu including snacks and an amazing pre desert. Highlights included smoked eel snack!! 10/10 from all of us , Oysters!!Turbot in an amazing broth again 10/10 … lamb cooked to perfection … panna cotta with strawberry sauce… almond and cherry cake …. Superb cheese … fabulously attentive staff and forgot to mention the spicy ‘Bloody Mary!! We will be back !!!

Have been to this restaurant on several occasions and have enjoyed the five course tasting menu at every visit. The food is fabulous and beautifully presented with a wine price list that is well priced. My wife loves the oysters, and I go for the souffle dessert every time

The staff are known for being extremely friendly and accommodating, with the deputy manager going out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant and pub provide ample seating, including a busy outdoor area, and offer the usual menu and drinks expected from a Hungry Horse establishment. Additionally, free parking with plenty of spaces is available for patrons.
Highly recommend! We were a large group of 8 adults, 3 under 5s and 2 dogs and were very well looked after. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was good pub grub. The play area outside came in very handy with the little ones. Would definitely go back.

Not good start by oldies tutting at grandchildren. Ordered burgers for 3 ...and fish finger wrap. The burgers and buns were actually burnt n black. How the chef felt it decent to serve I do not know. Complained and to be fair got a refund of 9.00. But fail to see how anyone would have felt good to serve burnt food. I took granddaughter in disabled loo as more space. The toilet seat was literally falling off. The garden were we sat was full of over flowing ashtrays and cigarette butts everywhere. Total waste of money. Staff were lovely though. Only plus side.

Lively atmosphere, friendly staff, great service and great burgers, especially the hot honey chicken burger. Comfortable seating inside, or nice big garden outside to enjoy in the sun, and a play area for children to enjoy too. Family and dog friendly.

Went for lunch table of 5 and baby. Waitress recommended getting the Greene King app, tried this all signed in. The first problem was drinks, not all on the app, and some dishes as well. So when I asked behind the bar, the lady said there was an issue with drinks going to the machine in the bar. So we placed our order at the till. I ordered the older person's menu, three items etc only the desert I wanted was not available, so I only had 2 tomato soup and scampi. The mixed grill was ok except the chicken piece was rock hard and only warm. The lasagne again was only warm. The hunters chicken was small and again dry and hard to cut see pictures of the left pieces as inedible. The steak and ale pie failed to arrive, so this was hot but 14 minutes late. Time for desert tried the app also didn't work, will try again hoping for hotter food, which will be returned and also any food issues, which I don't normally do. <<<< Second visit 26th Jan >>>> Fairly busy, table for 2 this time. Went to the bar to order a bit of a que only one serving, so I thought I would try the app again as I cannot stand for long. App issues so back to the till. Ordered chicken sliders, cheesey garlic bread, scampi, and onion rings. Drinks one tea and one Latte sorry I can not make coffee's today, so I had tea. I made an error when ordering with the chicken sliders. I said the other chicken on the small plates after paying, so I went back he said, "No worries, he would change the order." Little wait for food. The sliders came first these were only lukewarm. The rest of the order followed a couple of minutes later. All hot the food was a lot better this time.

We came across this pub after getting lost and was pleasantly surprised, they managed to find us a table even tho it was fully booked for eating. We ordered a roast (Sunday) and was nice and tasty, the pub was clean, the service was great and very welcoming, outside space was fab, there is plenty to choose from on the menu and the prices were reasonable too.

Chestfield Barn is a charming venue with a lovely interior and a pleasant atmosphere. The food is generally great, although there have been some inconsistencies in the preparation of certain dishes. Despite this, the service is outstanding, making for an overall fantastic experience. The balcony offers a beautifully lit setting for events and gatherings. Additionally, the venue maintains high cleanliness and COVID standards, adding to its appeal as a wonderful place to dine or host an event.
Lovely pub with great food and service. We arrived early on a rainy Saturday and got in for lunch but recommend booking- beautiful garden on a sunny day too, will be back. Had the filthy fries and a great burger with a real bun- no brioche here, hooray!

We went to Chestfield Barn for my grandmother’s 86th birthday and had such a lovely time. We were a group of 7 adults plus my toddler, and it was perfect for all of us. The place is beautiful and full of charm, with a lovely fish pond outside. They even gave us food to feed the fish, which absolutely made my baby’s day! The food was great (I had the lamb risotto with mushrooms and it was delicious), and the service was super friendly and attentive. It really felt like the perfect spot for a relaxed, special afternoon. Would definitely recommend!

Great staff, great food, great atmosphere. Even though we went on a busy Friday evening for a meal the service was good. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, good portions of food at a fair price. If you plan to eat I would suggest booking a table in advance. Lots of parking at the rear of the venue and lots of indoor and outdoor space. We'd definitely return and recommend it.

Pretty good 'pub grub' 👍 but not great value when you add in the pricy drinks. Staff were really lovely but busy. Chairs were uncomfortable and we were sat on a slope with not enough room. OK, I know it's called 'the Barn' but level off the floor! A beautiful building but needs the food to match the quality of the setting.

I made a reservation at The Monument, a family-friendly pub known for its extensive indoor and outdoor seating. While enjoying drinks at the bar, I noticed bunnies and a play structure that kept the kids entertained. Unfortunately, they were out of prawns that evening. My nephew opted for the pulled pork nachos which had an abundant amount of pork and could have easily been a meal on its own. Although not exactly like traditional California Mexican nachos, it appeared to be satisfyingly filling.
We visited on a Tuesday night and the pub and restaurant were quite busy. We had a warm welcome and friendly from the landlord and waitress. The food was lovely traditional pub food, local sausages and mash and a chicken and ham pie and mash. Served with fresh vegetables which were included in the price (as they should be imo!). We had a very nice evening and will return next time we’re in Whitstable. The owner of our Airbnb recommended two other places to eat and I’ll tell her to recommend The Monument too!

August, 2024 review I come here to eat sometimes. Some staff are more friendly than others, but all staff are polite. Food is usually good, and when there's issues they are quick to fix them. Portion sizes are good too. Can be hard to get a hold of someone as its a pub if dining in. Locals discount is a nice addition. Toilet room is good. Nice smelling soap, powerful hands dryer. Clean. Could do with larger windows without panes, but I guess it's a historic building so they're limited with what they can do. Can't fault the place. Would recommend. - Update Dec 2024 Beef lasagna was terrible. Cheap cheese is now used, almost no lasagna sheets and no flavour. Massive portion but just pure grease from the cheap cheese. This dish used to be a safe bet. Sadly not anymore. Thai green curry good... Except there's a weird taste of ghee but like it's gone bad. Cost £28 - Photos added Having now been here a lot, I'll say, the food is very inconsistent. Both in what you get on the plate portion wise... For example sometimes there's less veg, and flavour wise. Sometimes it's really bad. Last few times has been really bad.

Had an epic Easter Sunday lunch for the family. My wife had the soup which she said was the best she had for a very long time. It was leek and potato but had a mint oil dressing. Starters of Parma ham and cheese and chorizo balls went down well. We all had roast. Lamb, chicken and several of us had beef. Perfectly cooked. Masses of roast potatoes and fresh veg. Can’t fault it. Highly recommended

We reserved a table for dinner with family. Got drinks at the bar. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. There were bunnies and a play structure for the kids. Sadly, they were out of prawns that night. Nephew ordered the pulled pork nachos that had a lot of pork. He could have had it as a meal. It was not quite like a California Mexican nachos but it looked filling. I had the crab dip for an appetizer and the chicken Caesar salad for my main dish. They were generous with the chicken and the anchovies. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the two Catman pieces painted outside. I love his art and discovered him when we were here 3 years ago.

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Whitstable, The East Kent is a vibrant tavern that perfectly blends a warm atmosphere with an eclectic menu. This inviting spot features exposed red brick walls and ample natural light, creating a cozy yet modern pub experience. With its fantastic covered beer garden, it's the only place in town to enjoy delicious wood-fired pizzas alongside classic British dishes reimagined with a contemporary twist.
Popped in to check out our yet again reopened East Kent. To the eye very similar to before but once settled in it is so so different. There is a fun loving guy called Rufus who greets you with all the enthusiasm and zest to please and make you welcome. Such a quality especially if you simply pop in on your own from the beach with your dogs. We were all made extremely welcome with drink recommendations and dog treats. Talk about the right guy to have on your staff. He's a credit to the establishment. So after chatting about the food with Rufus I decided to stay longer and ordered bruschetta OMG loaded with different coloured Isle of Wight tomatoes and massive lumps of burrata drizzled with hot honey. Rufus suggested the Asian noodle salad and the whole lunch certainly did not disappoint. Here I am again today with my sister. Pulled lamb and hummus flatbreads, crispy chilli beef, salt and szechuan pepper calamari all small plates as some food with our Long Beach Ice Tea cocktails. Finally we have our East Kent back and it's a joy to go to. Feel welcomed, comfortable and relaxed here. Ticks all my boxes

Lovely food, however £18 shepherd pie and 'buttered greens' resulted in a tiny, shallow dish of pie and quarter of a cabbage. Staff and ambience were lovely, however the price did absolutely not match the value of the food.

Birthday dinner with my daughter and husband. My daughter knew that there was a new chef and he definitely did not disappoint. Food was exceptional. Quality and presentation were excellent. Starters we had were crispy chilli beef and scallops with bacon. Both were delicious. Mains we had were pork belly, pulled lamb shepherds pie and fish and chips. Again excellent quality, presentation and delicious. Only gave 4 stars for atmosphere due to firstly being showed to a table in a anti-room that was so dark you would have needed a torch to see what you were eating and also the chandelier had bulbs that flickered which was distracting so we asked to be moved. Also, I felt that the waitress could have shown a little more enthusiasm too. But would definitely recommend a visit.

The East Kent is a lovely pub in a great location in Whitstable. Near the station and the town, so ideal for a spot of lunch if you're visiting for the day. The prices are very reasonable too. I happened to come across Quayside Bar while searching for restaurants that are both dog and baby friendly. Despite being quite busy at 5pm, the staff managed to find a great table near the window. The drinks were served quickly and the food followed in a timely manner. The dishes were delicious, well-portioned, and the service was attentive. Compared to similar establishments I've tried before, Quayside Bar offered great value for money.
Wowzer the new management have got this!!! Well done Fiona and team. Just had the roast dinner party of 7 and every single one was on point. Staff are lovely and make you feel welcome. We will be back next week 🥰🥰

Came here for dinner with my family and sister's family. Service was fantastic, the guy looking after us (and the whole pub it seemed!) Was brilliant. Super friendly, knew his stuff and was great with the kids. Food was really yummy. It was actually nice to have a menu that didn't have loads on! A good simple menu that had good classics on, and done well. Great value for money too. We will definitely be back!

The Quayside bar & kitchen is a cut above the usual pub food found along Weymouth quayside. You won’t find fried fish here. Instead you’ll find some thoughtful recipes designed to bring out the exquisite qualities of fresh sea food. I’ll state straight away I’m not a great sea food fan. However there is some fish I like, and it should be noted that this restaurant does have choices for those like me, or indeed for those not liking any sea food. I had salmon pasta and very nice it was too. Another person in my party loves sea food and he absolutely loved his dish. All in all we were very satisfied. There was a minor hiccup in that one dish was meant to come with diced fried potato and not fries, but they’d run out of the former. That was a shame because the person who ordered it specifically wanted to take a break from fries/chips. As I say, this was a minor hiccup. The service was fantastic. The waiter was very helpful. Also he skilfully steered himself around the cringeworthy jokes from an elderly member of our group. He gave 100% and for that I am most appreciative. On leaving the restaurant I recommend that you take in the nice surroundings of the restaurant, with a walk by the water. There are many other pubs in that area, ideal for a nightcap. Enjoy!

Nestled just a stone's throw from the picturesque Whitstable Beach, The Duke of Cumberland Hotel is a charming community pub that beckons travelers seeking both relaxation and culinary delights. This Grade-II listed gem offers not only an inviting atmosphere but also a delightful menu featuring locally sourced seafood, including the must-try crab Thermidor on sourdough toast.
Went for lunch to try the Mussels Bar and wasn't disappointed. A lovely decorated bar area and restaurant which is contemporary but cozy. Service is excellent. The Mussels Bar represents one of the best value places to get decent mussels in the whole of Whitstable. They were cooked well and there's a great selection of tastes from Thai to traditional. The fish pie is good too. I highly recommend this place and will definitely visit again.

Food review: a very mixed bag. We came in and ate in the bar as the restaurant was fully booked and had a very mixed experience. Service wise was a real mix, lots of staff around and some friendly but some made you feel like they were doing you a favour. The menu variety was wide with food options and the starters were brilliant, we couldn’t wait for our mains but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The special which was the fish stew was good but our other mains very poor. We had two fish and chips which, while they tasted average were tiny portions, especially for the price and the chips were poor. We also ordered the linguine which had barely any taste and required a lot of salt to give it some flavour. When our mains were bought over, our server offered sauces and we asked for some Parmesan for the linguine. When they returned, we were told that we would have to come back to the bar to pay an additional £2 if we wanted Parmesan. Honestly I was taken back as I’ve never had this before when ordering pasta. I do understand that the price of everything is going up but, if you really have to charge, this is something I should have been asked if I wanted to add when ordering at the bar with pasta dishes rather than being asked to come back to the bar to pay with my food getting cold. Overall, come for a snack but there are much better places in Whitstable

I haven’t stayed in the hotel so based rating of rooms on pub areas. I’ve been to the pub a few times and had drinks in the garden. On a weekday visit a few years ago it was very quiet but on a Sunday afternoon recently it was very lively with a lovely atmosphere and a live guitarist who was amazing. It looks like it’s been redecorated since my last visit. Very pleasant garden. Lots of cocktails were not on offer but enjoyed what I did have and would return.

We (2 adults, daughters aged 8 and 6) dined in. Super kid friendly- menus to colour and puzzles. 2 course kids menu plus drink was just £10. Food was amazing: I had the seafood spaghetti which was loaded with mussels and had two huge tiger prawns on top. Very good quality food for price point. Friendly service.

A family group of 11 of us ate lunch here today for a birthday celebration, and it was all-round excellent! Our waitress was lovely, and the service from the whole team was great. We had lots of different items from the menu and they were all top-notch - roast chicken, roast beef (both cooked to perfection with superb roast spuds, and lovely veg including swede and red cabbage) burger, fish pie, sea bass and more - all really tasty. This is the second time I’ve eaten here and it does not disappoint. Highly recommended

I’ve just had a fabulous 2 night stay at the Duke of Cumberland. This centrally located pub and restaurant has boutique hotel rooms and is 2 minutes walk from the beach/coastal path. I stayed in ‘Bluebell’ and it was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was snow white and. crisp. The towels were of a good size and were white and soft. Toiletries and tea/coffee/biscuits were all of a very good quality. There were 2 complimentary bottles of Whitstable Bay Ale waiting in the room, which was a nice touch. Breakfast is delicious and well presented. Hannah welcomed me each day at breakfast and is very cheerful and helpful. A nice start to the day. Another member of staff that me ed s a special mention, is Aidan. I was struggling with a baby, pushchair and heavy bag after getting caught in a rain shower and Aidan immediately approached me and asked what he could do to help. This was such excellent customer service and was genuinely appreciated. Aidan is a credit to your establishment. There is a really nice feel to the Duke of Cumberland and I will definitely be returning as there is so much to see and go in the area.

If you want to enjoy a pleasant meal or drink with your family while visiting Whitstable, please do yourself a favour and SKIP THIS PLACE! My husband and I stopped by The Duke of Cumberland for a relaxing lunch. Our 15-year old son, who had already eaten, simply wanted to sit with us while enjoying a small crepe he had picked up from a nearby stand. The staff refused to let him in because of the crepe. Yes, you read that correctly.... We asked if they served crepes themselves (hoping to somehow make this work), and they said no. So they denied access to a quiet, polite teenager for brining in a snack they don't even offer. No flexibility, no grace, no hospitality, no customer service at all... just a hard no. Thankfully, this all happened before we ordered food-so we finished our drinks and took our business elsewhere. What could have been a lovely family moment became an absurd and disappointing episode. A real shame, considering how welcoming and kind most places in Whitstable have been. Hospitality, after all, is not just about food and drink. It's about the humans you serve. It's a pity when charm ends at the threshold. Whitstable deserves better. TWO THUMBS DOWN and a real minus-10 STAR review!
Paola W — Google review
Super unfriendly staff. We make a booking and wasn’t notified that no dogs allowed. Lady in restaurants gave me attitude when I was asking her if we could possibly put dog in pram and that will sort the problem. She then said go next door you can stay there with dog but we don’t do any service there. I’ve asked if we can order food at least for kids and she snapped you have to order on bar, no willingness to help to guide you or give menu, explain or something. Basically, go sort yourself. We love our cottage in Whitstable and this pub does great food of all the time, shame staff in restaurant just getting worst each time we visit.

Nestled along the picturesque Thames Estuary in Whitstable, Kent, East Quay Venue is a delightful harbourside restaurant that perfectly blends delectable local seafood with breathtaking views. With its rustic charm and airy ambiance, this venue is an ideal choice for weddings and special events. Guests can enjoy both indoor and outdoor spaces that showcase stunning sea vistas, creating a memorable backdrop for any celebration.
For a venue that's as close to the sea as you can get, East Quay is pretty epic. The space is big enough for a large wedding and there's ample dancefloor space too. What's also fantastic is that you've got options to choose from for where to have your ceremony with the different areas within East Quay. A great wedding venue for anybody that loves the sea!

Upon arrival we were greeted by Lucy and her team who made sure we had everything we needed, including asking staff to move their cars so we were able to have access for unloading. We were provided with drinks and a green room, and even had a totally delicious fish & chip supper while our clients were dining. The ambience of the venue is stunning. Sunsets on the beach & rustic seaside charm. If you are looking somewhere that supports live music and looks stunning, you've found it!!!

Being a manager of a wine bar and having worked in hospitality I can happily say that Lucy and her team have been nothing but AMAZING making sure my friends were celebrated for their special day. The attention to details was beyond this world, all the staff were coming round with a smile on their faces without any ask too big for them. Venue has the most breathtaking views of the beach and the food was absolutely delicious (honourable mention to the chefs and the oyster crew as God know they have to shuck a few...). Couldn't recommend this place more as well as its sister venue the Lobster Shack for something more relax and cure the hangovers! Will 100% be back :)

We had our wedding here last summer and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better place. It’s the most beautiful setting, having your wedding photos directly on the beach. The ceremony area and the downstairs area for dinner are beautifully set up and the stage and dance floor with the DJ are made space for a great evening party! The food was incredible, we have had so many compliments from the guests, that is the best wedding food they have ever had. The oyster and canapé drinks reception so special with such a good selection and we still think about how delicious those evening pizzas were! Lucy was amazing throughout the whole process, extremely well organised, everything ran so smoothly during the lead up and on the day which took any stress away. All the staff on the day were so friendly, helpful and really did go the extra mile. It is an incredible, unique and very memorable venue. I can’t recommend it enough!
Anna F — Google review
Our dream venue, it couldn’t have been more perfect for us. Being able to see the sea whilst we got married was just magical and the scenery around the venue was the perfect backdrop for some beautiful pictures. Lucy was incredible throughout the whole process, she helped us out with decisions we needed to make by recommending what other couples had done and ensured we had everything we wanted for our special day. Lucy and her team went above and beyond, showing how much they genuinely care about every couple that gets married at East Quay Venue. The food was absolutely delicious with all allergies catered for. We cannot recommend this venue enough and will definitely go back and visit on our future trips to Whitstable.

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph lots of weddings at East Quay and it’s without doubt one of the best venues to get married in Kent. The venue has a great, cool aesthetic, and you can literally just step out on to Whitstable beach which provides an amazing backdrop for some great photos. The team at East Quay are awesome aswell and always keep the day running super smoothly! I’d highly recommend them if you’re looking for your wedding venue : )

Great wedding venue with lots of authentic seaside charm. I photographed a wedding there recently and loved the interior as well the surroundings. Especially the beach as a backdrop to some beautiful photos we had from the day. Oh, and the food (fish and chips) was excellent and the staff very helpful.

East Quay is a venue that I love coming back to photograph at! One of the best wedding venues around for sure. It's on the beach, it's got really cool decor and the food is amazing. The staff are super friendly and I'm excited to be back this Summer! Olly (Olly Knight Photography)

Bar
Nestled in the charming coastal town of Whitstable, Smack Inn is a delightful pub that captures the essence of seaside relaxation. Originally two 19th-century fishermen's cottages, this inviting establishment boasts a spacious beer garden reminiscent of a shingle beach, complete with vibrant beach huts available for booking. Just a short stroll from the shoreline, it offers an extensive selection of drinks and traditional pub fare that caters to all tastes.
Tried this for a very late lunch/early dinner on a Tuesday afternoon. Was really nice to sit in the beer garden under a cover but of the deck with our dog, we needed the shade! We ordered lemon pepper squid, scampi and chips a side of sweet potato fries, the dressed crab salad (special) and a plain burger for our dog which came with chips. The squid was my favourite!! Scampi was also amazing as were the sweet potato fries! The dressed crab was very nicely down, just wasn't my thing (personal taste), my partner loved it. Burger was a flip, burnt and dry, even our not very picky dock didn't care for it. Chips were okay but didn't have more than 2 personally as we had enough food and I've had better before. Also had I mixed myself mocktails with sprite zero and Schweppes pineapple juice with some mint leaves (I was keeping it alcohol free and didn't want coke zero), my partner had a perfect Guinness. The also had dog treats (duck, venison boar and rabbit) and dog ice cream and pupsicles. We'll be going back here for sure. There is also a non smoking/vaping area in the beer garden. Helpful staff.

Popped in here whilst in Whitstable for the day to have a pint of my favourite Whitstable blonde. Tasty bar snacks and dog friendly as well, nice little pub with a good atmosphere, off the beaten track so slightly less busy than others.

What a lovely little pub with a huuuge beer garden! Visited from London today and the lady who runs the place (Tracey or Stacey?) was so sweet and such a good host. The fish and chips was insane! Thank you so much

We popped in there today. The food was very good. The Salmon and prawn, avocado salad was excellent, well presented and a generous portion too. I had the tuna baguette mayo very good too. Full marks, would highly recommend this pub

A great place to sit and drink during the summer days in Whitstable. My partner and I came back twice on the same day to have some drinks at this place as it is so lovely with their decorations. Indoors it might look a bit more tame, but the backside outside has vivid colours which catches the eye in the best way. Service was good, so was the drinks we had. Hope to come back and try their food!

Popped in on the first day of our little getaway, didn't try the food but the service was great, very friendly and welcoming. Drinks prices weren't too bad either,

Nestled at the end of Harbour Street, Porto Wine Bar is a delightful gem in Whitstable that invites you to indulge in an extensive selection of Portuguese wines. This charming venue offers a cozy atmosphere where you can savor delicious sharing platters featuring meats and cheeses while enjoying the vibrant ambiance. The fire-warmed garden adds an enchanting touch, making it perfect for any weather. Guests have raved about the attentive service, even on busy evenings without prior reservations.
We had passed the Porto Wine bar in Whitstable a few times but we were always too early. We visited a week ago as a couple and met the wife's sister. The ladies decided on a Port tasting and I had a Portuguese Stout. We had a lovely couple of hours, the service was very attentive and the help and knowledge about the ports were fantastic. We will certainly be visiting again.

Popped in for a quick drink and so glad we did. Warm, friendly welcome and shown to seats at the rear. Great choice of wines and the bowl of popcorn was a nice touch. Small space but very cosy. Will definitely be back to try the food.
Linda — Google review
We decided to pop in for a glass of wine as the interior looked so cosy and inviting. We were warmly welcomed and lucky to get a seat. As the hours passed we tried several wines, ports and plates of food which were all fantastic. We should also give a special mention to Angel whom was friendly and helpful. This place had a lovely feel with wines being very reasonable priced. Highly recommend and will be returning regularly.

Great selection of wines, excellent food and amazing service. We announced ourselves without a prior booking on a busy Saturday evening, but we were still attended to with a smile and we were told we will get a call in 30 minutes when the tables become available. And we did get a call. We had a bottle of Cabriz, some olives, sourdough bread and chicken and chorizo. The food was excellent, wine was nice, the ambience was amazing and to top it all, the service was brilliant. Special call out to Harvey who served us. Great chap, made our evening special.
Subhrangsu B — Google review
Being Madeiran/ Portuguese I saw this place on line yesterday and because we live nearby Canterbury we decided to book for today at 1pm We was welcomed by friendly staff who showed us to our table then a few minutes later took our order. The wine red Cabriz ( 2nd on the list under red wines) was 10/10 obviously I knew the wine. For food we had grilled chorico, chicken and chorrico skewers ( very good value we thought £12) served on a bed of salad and two slices of bread. The atmosphere inside is super chilled with jazz music playing softly on the back ground. Did I mention the have super Bock on draft! Brilliant place for couples. Over all well worth it Filipe Da Silva

We went here for a drink before a meal out in Whitstable. We both had a glass of delicious wine which came with a small snack. Martin, the friendly host, on finding out that it was my wife’s birthday, brought over a delicious glass of port each to celebrate. A fantastic atmosphere, small and cosy, and perfect for a glass of wine or two!

We went there when they were fully booked. They took our number to call back when they had availability which they did just an hour later. Was superb, great food and wine and lovely atmosphere. Exactly what Whitstable needs. Thanks!

We had a, great meal last night with 2 friends at the royal. The food was delicious, the curry I had was very tasty, highly recommend. The fish and chips were very good quality and 2, had steak & ale pie. All of an excellent quality. Staff are very happy & attentive, especially Tom, who is an amazing Manager. Worth joining the Birthday Club as you get free meal, and several emails with vouchers/offers. Lovely atmosphere in such a lovely setting right by the sea. Can't fault this royal

All the food we had was very good. Went there for a group of 6 and everyone’s meal looked delicious. I got the Fish and Chips which I think was the winner (I would say that though) and the chicken wings to start. But the pie looked good, pasta was awesome, tacos looked delicious - so many good options

The Royal is an absolute treasure, perfectly situated adjacent to the beautiful Tankerton Slopes, offering one of the most iconic and breathtaking views of Whitstable and Tankerton coastline. If you’re looking for a tranquil spot to unwind with a chilled beer or a refreshing drink, The Royal is the place to be. It’s the perfect spot to experience the most astonishing sunset with sundowners in hand — a truly unforgettable and magical experience, made even better by the sound of the sea and the peaceful surroundings. The food is delicious, with a great selection of dishes that pair wonderfully with their excellent choice of beers and spirits. The service is outstanding — always warm and welcoming. A special thank you to Tom, and Carly, who consistently go above and beyond to make every visit memorable. Whether you’re stopping by for a quiet drink, a tasty meal, or simply to soak up the scenery, The Royal is an absolute treat. Highly recommended!

Great visit here yesterday and delicious fresh food. We sat at the back as had 2 small children with us, very spacious and welcoming. The food was fantastic, especially the beef goulash soup! We had to wait a while but it was worth it as it all arrived fresh & hot. Also had the curry wurst chips & baguettes. We all had clear plates! Lovely service too, smiley & chatty, highly recommend. Excellent locals pub, which also gives a wonderful welcome to visitors like myself.. I've never seen it close early, which in Whitstable is sadly rare... The Real Ale is top-notch, Adnams famously "doesn't travel" just checked Southwold is currently 3:15 hours away, but I can report that this bitter is perfect, just as good as if it had come directly out of the Brewery!

Clearly the best pub in Whitstable. There are no enough boozers like this anymore. In a world full of gastro pubs and restaurants masquerading as traditional boozers, this place really is a hark back to the glory days. A good (but not hipster) range of beers, traditional food, and awesome locals vibe. The best pub in Whitstable without question.

Nestled in the charming town of Whitstable, The Two Brewers stands as a testament to history, being the oldest surviving pub in the area. Originally two farm cottages from around 1500, it transformed into an inn by 1690 and has since become a beloved community hub. Visitors can enjoy traditional pub activities alongside live music events that keep the atmosphere lively.
Great little pub in the older area of the village. Had Sunday roast with potatoes, veg and dessert...very well prepared meat, veg crisp and tender, potato with crispy outside and tender inside. Several desserts to choose from all excellent. If you have the opportunity, have the homemade Stilton and broccoli soup, heaven in a bowl, esp. on a cold day. Jazz Pilgrims traditional jazz band plays Friday afternoon, a must see group!

Beautiful place to sit and have a drink in the garden of an evening in the sun. Great staff, with fantastic local knowledge. And advised us on where to eat. And the regulars are really friendly. Prices for drinks very reasonable and fantastic pictures of the pub way back in the day. This history of the pub is amazing. Its off the main road into Whitstable High Street on the left. Had a chat with Nick the Landlord and what a lovley fella. Highly recommended 5* Very much looking forward to a Sunday roast in the future on our return visit. Thanks Nick.
