Very cosy and very crowded place to eat. The dinner we had was really good. We had a burger, duck breast, double kids platter and a beef steak. On the side we had 2 scales of fries with spicy mayonnaise. That side dish was not included with the main course.

They were so cute, vintage and so Dutch. * Food: although they add some Asian ingredients to their menu but it's still very Dutch to me. We ordered Bordje doe maar lekker, bigbanger burger and bavette. The starter was ok. Not bad but not impressed. Bigbanger burger was ok too. The burger was a bit dry but could be fixed. Bavette steak was well cooked as requested: medium rare. Soft and juicy. However, chili oil was not matching with the dish. If the restaurant would like to add some spicy tastes please consider something else. Because the bavette steak was seasoning with sea salt, then the chili oil was also salty so together they made the dish too salty. Mashed potatoes also couldn't go well with chili oil with peanut. For me, it's totally failed. * Service: nice, kind and charming. No complaints. *Price: its reasonable, not so crazy expensive and the quality was decent too. The portions were fine. In general, I think it's a lovely restaurant to visit if you are in Alkmaar!

Great place! Super friendly staff, food is very tasty, asmosphere is great, and price is very reasonable. Very recommendable: Alkmaar's De Heeren van Sonoy is an impressive location, with a high ceiling, stone walls, wooden furniture, historical artefacts and windows, which let in a warm and special, mild light. The guest's view goes outside onto a beautiful garden court, with additonal seating facilities. You are very well served here: in a friendly, decent, cheering manner. The delicious, fresh and in a positive way traditional Dutch meals correspond happily to the light, cheerful ambiance. High tea and wine are offered here as well. Conclusively: a beautiful location with an outstanding atmosphere and fine dishes, fairly priced.

Came here for a wedding, it's a lovely place (although not the largest) with nice decor and very friendly staff. It made for a lovely weekend! The food was great too.

It's a nice place, full of charm, the staff are nice, but that's about it. I've never eaten such a bad pancake ! And what can I say about the panini, made with a “French” molded baguette, not roasted. It's just a sandwich. Huge disappointment ! Go there for the setting, but above all, don't eat anything there !!! By the way, at the end of the meal, we pointed out that we'd been disappointed by the dishes, as evidenced by one of the almost uneaten panecakes.

Ordered a vegetarian farmers omelet. Got a regular one instead. After letting the waitress know, I got a non vegetarian one. Because we were hungry I ate it and left out the meat. After complaining again to the waitress, she just went away. When asking for the bill, there was not even the slightest apology or remark on the event. I said I wouldn't pay for the omelet because of what happened and then she started to explain why it went wrong according to her, instead of just making apologies and trying to find a solution. After that, the floormanager(?) arrived and we settled it in a nice manner. Then, after suggesting it might be handled a bit more guest-friendly to the same waitress that arrived to handle the payment, she just started arguing again. On the food-side, it was not bad but not very inspiring. The place itself has very nice atmosphere and beautiful location. Nice bar/pub in Alkmaar, friendly staff, a great selection of beers and a nice outdoor terrace on the canal with heaters. They have an additional space with tables outdoor on top of a boat. Acceptable and fully reasonable prices...

Cracking spot for a beer on a sunny day. The outside area is actually on the water and you can watch the many boats touring the canals as they pass. I even saw some boats pulling up to be served drinks at the side of the canal so this is one to stop off at if you hire a boat (which I'd also highly recommend if you're visiting the city on a nice day). Also serves the classic traditional Dutch bar snacks like bitterballen

I understand that koninginnedag must be celebrated. But the fact that you got drunk... And you were not able to work properly. This is sad.

De Buren never fails! We have been here on multiple occasions and have always been happy. There are multiple seating choices-outside underneath the roof, in front of the restaurant, on the terrace or indoors. Although it is a lot the staff is really organised and you never have to wait too long. They have a great memory even if you decide to change where you sit. When going on a Saturday I recommend booking in advance as the locals know this is the place to be! The staff is attentive, we were being asked throughout dinner if we needed anything. They spoke English, noticed a missing napkin after our starter almost immediately and explained the specials to us. Do not miss this and go for lunch on the terrace when the sun is out! ☀️After dark, the cosy ambience indoors makes you feel really relaxed. There is no loud music, the beers on the menu change throughout the year and the signature onion soup is a MUST! 🥣👌🏻there are two warm options for vegetarians (Moussaka and pumpkin risotto) and a couple of veggie salads too! 🌱

The location and ambience were great but the food was more like typical tourist fare. I am usually an organic, clean food eater but can't always do that on vacation. Reviews were so good, but the onion soup was just OK, the bread was mediocre. My husbands Thai soup was better. The location was excellent and the interior and variety of eating areas make it worth a visit.

Cozy and recommended. Located on a cute corner in the city centre, the atmosphere inside this restaurant is Dutch-style 'gezellig'. Service is good and so is the food. Fig carpaccio is a nice starter, salmon skewer was great and this is one of the few places where I can really recommend the spare ribs. Limoncello tiramisu was delicious. The beer selection is not exotic, but there is no need for that with Affligem on tap. Wine selection is limited (but I did not feel limited with the available choices). Several whiskies are available, but somehow they are not mentioned on the menu's - ask at the bar.

Food is good but service is slow and not very attentive. Wait-staff not well-trained. We stood for 10mins and no one came to show us a table so we had to go looking for a wait-staff instead. Throughout service, also spotted a few times when a wait-staff would appear with plates of food looking totally lost as to which tables they belong to. Made a reservation and requested for vegetarian afternoon tea and still got served smoked salmon and raw beef spread. Didn't bother to send it back as service was already slow and had a movie to catch. Good thing friend and I are not vegetarians but just wanted to go meatless yesterday. Am a frequent customer at IJkgebouw. Nothing wrong with the food but service always lets it down as it's very inconsistent.

It was a great atmosphere with an open bar and kitchen concept that feels very honest and lets the costumers appreciate the service more. I ordered a Hemingway sour, which wasn't on the menu but the bartender was very nice and looked up the recipe for me. The interaction with the waitress was more than pleasant and you felt that the staff really cared for your comfort and well being. To the drink I ordered a Burrata Salad and it was the best salad I've had in my life really. It is on the spicy side but in the best ways. I ordered the duck which was delicious but maybe slightly chewier than I prefer. Location was phenomenal and the experience was very positive! The waitress was amazing as was her assistant. The best part was they set aside my telephone I mistakenly left at the table. When I returned an hour later looking for it the waitress happily went to the back where she had safeguarded it for me and then happily returned it to me. My belief in humanity was restored!!! This dark forest cake was super. Appel pie and coffee was also very good. Personal are very helpful and offered us a place to change our babies diapers.

I am a vegan, the menu was very limiting but I was in a group going into the restaurant. The menu was very small for my options. But the thing that I didn't enjoy was that everything was very sticky from all the children touching everything from seats, tables and spices on each table.

There's quite some noise sitting upstairs when it's busy, the place is a bit of an echo chamber. The food and drinks are a bit overpriced for what it is (e.g. 3.6 for some water), but maybe that's because of the location near the centre. Even though it was busy, the drinks and food came reasonably fast though.

I strongly recommend you try everything from the cold side to the warm side. The extraordinary vitello and burrata parma salads were so delicious. I would like to mention the Risotto separately, you must try it, its delicate and unusual taste. Also, the tastiest pizzas will surprise you with their sweet and sour mixers, which are definitely replaced by people who like something unusual. Food was delicious. However, I found the description of spice level in the menu not matching the reality. Almost all dishes in the photos were super spicy and they were not mentioned in the menu. Very easy to put a chili sign next to the text. When I explained about the situation, they said: “ Yes some dishes are more spicy than the others” finally they gave me a big glass of hot milk. Nonetheless, I would come back again to try more dishes and I recommend this place when you visit Alkmaar.

Nice street food. Ecleptic restaurant in terms of food, it fuses different Asian foods. The ribeye buns were delicious, juicy. The main dish had a great flavour, quite intense peanutsauce. The chicken skewers were very good. Nice experience.

Nice place but we weren't allowed to sit down. We got send away from our table by a server. He said the table was taken but it was empty for half an hour after which we left. This is btw not a place where you can reserve a table after dinner. It's a pub.

We were attracted to the fun terrace and the idea of nice Hawaiian cocktails. We ordered the pulled pork nachos and pina coladas (the only tropical-esque drink). The portion was generous but flavor was lack luster. We asked before we ordered the drinks if they were blended and they said yes, but they were not, which defeats the purpose of pina colada. Honestly the aloha thing is clearly just a marketing gimmick, there is no tropical or Hawaiian food or drinks here. Overall I imagine this to be an amazing Thursday night spot that students love to frequent. The full page of shots basically as long as the cocktail list should have been a clue.

It was crowded but outside so we sit inside it was nice, the burger could be better, meat was not flavorful and so much sauces was added. But the chicken club was delicious and huge.I enjoyed its sauce and flavor with a nice toasted bread.but the burger bread was not so tasty. Cezar salad had various breads and was nice.the staff and timing was good too.

The waiter was nice buy my burger took forever. The burger and fries were nice, but the burger patty had a strange texture not like ground beef. We had a lot of Heinekens and for the appetizer we had a nice plate with various Dutch snacks. That was good. The location is very nice, right along the canal with other nice restaurants and cafes.

Every time I’ve been to this place it has been amazing. The service is amazing and the staff is kind. In my experience the waiting times are short and they often check if you need anything. I’m a picky eater but there is still multiple things they have that I liked. 10/10 would recommend.

I spent my evening at Mojo's. The place was nice and big and the food was good! We were 'lucky' when we ordered only a snack but the waitresses didn't notice that order so we ordered burgers. Bun was surprised hard but really good. I would eat there another time.

Great spot for people watching on a sunny day. Right outside the charming cathedral in a curious old building that feels like a castle on the inside. We had food and drinks and were happy with our choice. Nothing too adventurous on the menu but the sandwiches and snacks we got were decent and the staff were all friendly and polite

Nice environment, well cooked food, excellent service. If I could, I would put one extra point for the service. We had booked a table for six, but we appeared seven. Instead of squeezing us in a table (which would had been fine too) they moved us to a bigger one the moment it was available. I will definitely go back again!

I never had an eggs benedict is perfect as that! The eggs were perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of yolk coming out. The service was fast and very helpful as a friend who is allergic to gluten asked if they had any gluten free bread and they responded instantly with a yes. The atmosphere was amazing if you sit outside you have a perfect view of some historic listed buildings and you get to watch the world go by!

I think they forgot us to serve dinner, because it took more than 30 minutes before we got our starter. (My baby wasn't happy anymore) It took 1,5hour before we got our main dish. However, the food tasted delicious. The tastes of the chicken and and the veggie dish 'naan brood' where amazing. It should be better that the food would have been served faster: that would give this restaurant 5+++ star!

Chicken was raw :( We were so excited to go back to a restaurant opening up after the corona crisis lockdown and support the business and local community. Unfortunately we ended up with a “crispy chicken” which was actually raw... not half cooked... RAW... the waitress was very polite and apologetic and our drinks were eventually on the house but we all know what health impacts can raw chicken have... the person cooking (because they are certainly not chefs) should go back to school to learn the basics... a big pity....

Pretty cool place to hang around, it is self service based, and a very relaxed ambient with sand floor, right next to the river. Espresso is not so good, but they have variety of beers, so I guess you can find one for your taste. Good thing is a huge parking lot right across the street, so the location is great, although many would bike to this one usually, but for tourists it helps a lot.

Miss Central is one of my favorite spots for lunch. The place is warm and charming, serving beautifully presented fusion dishes that taste just as good as they look. They also have great coffee, homemade cakes, and fresh bread every time I visit. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a cozy place to relax and enjoy delicious food and a lovely atmosphere! 💛

Came for French toast and that's exactly what I got! Great coffee, the French toast was unique and delicious. The portion is probably a little on the small side in terms of one slice, but worth it still and really good. The atmosphere is wonderful and relaxed, whilst also still lively. A new favourite for Alkmaar!

March 2024 This is a stunning place. The inside is just awesome. Staff greets when entering although they were busy (that already is a huge plus) also very attending and quick. Next time try the menu, just had a dirty chai and something sweet from the menu.

Hands down for the afternoon tea set menu! My family took me here for a last minute afternoon tea bridal shower. Booked in the morning, and within the limited time they prepared most wonderful table set up. Food is 10 out of 10. Love the sandwiches options and all the cakes. Such a beautiful presentation. They also served different option of loose tea. Must try if you’re around Alkmaar!

Beautiful cafe with delicious lunch options. The inside is lovely and has a very uplifting vibe. Ordered the broccoli soup and sweet potato fries. The soup was flavorful and the fries had a great crunch. Also ordered a stroopwaffle apple dessert (not pictured) and it was delightful! Not too sweet and went perfectly with an espresso. The second time we enjoyed afternoon tea. The savory items were better than the dessert, but everything was still delicious for the price. Also, we really enjoyed the selection of tea and the unlimited hot water. Would definitely recommend a high tea here with friends! While this is definitely a place to go to meet up with friends, they did have a little table with coloring books for kids in the corner. I look forward to returning in the future and trying their high tea or high gin!

I had the goat cheese "broodje" (bread) with apple compote and rucola and it was lovely. We had our seats on the terrace and showers came and went but the parasol above us kept us dry. For a place in the center prices were reasonable.

I was walking by with my friend while visiting the cheese market. We were so amazed by the warm cocktail, and the service is also very kind! A great place to stay to have a meal!

Best selection of beer in town, with knowledgeable service and great vibe. It's relaxed and friendly, a great place to enjoy your new favorite beer. The prices are reasonable and there is definitely plenty of choice. I also loved that the music wasn't so loud you couldn't understand each other, but just nice enough to still hold a conversation.

Very nice beer tasting bar in the centre of Alkmaar with lots of craft beers on tap as well as bottled (over 100 different beers in total!). Very friendly service, they even have card decks for guests to play. Can definitely recommend!
