Tapas restaurant
Bar 44 Penarth is a vibrant and well-liked Spanish-inspired eatery located in the center of Penarth. It is part of the Grupo 44 chain, founded by Welsh brothers with a passion for Spanish cuisine. The menu at Bar 44 focuses on contemporary tapas, featuring dishes like sticky sherry chicken, jamon croquetas, and confit duck burgers. The establishment also offers an extensive selection of Spanish wines, beers, sherries, and cocktails.
Lovely Spanish style bistro. We enjoyed the lunch Tapas, which I thought (3 Tapas and a drink) was a bargain for £20. The market fish was especially good. Would also recommend the sherry flight. Service was excellent.

Located in Penarth town centre, offers a mix of high table seating and standard tables. The atmosphere is inviting, though the layout feels slightly divided between casual and a bar. The Negroni was disappointing as overly diluted and lacking the bold bitterness that makes the cocktail shine. The burnt orange garnish added a pleasant smokiness, but it couldn’t save the overall balance. The red mullet itself was fairly basic, but the dish was elevated by the hospitable cabbage and a flavorful green sauce with sobrasada butter. The artichoke had great flavor, but some pieces were excessively chewy and would have benefited from a longer grill time. However, the almond romesco with truffled Manchego was excellent and rich, nutty, and deeply satisfying. The baby squid with Fino, garlic, and herbs was well-executed, delivering delicate flavors with just the right amount of seasoning. For January, they offer a roll of the dice for a discount of up to 44% off , I landed 22%, which was a fun touch. While some dishes showed promise, a few missteps held the experience back. Worth a visit, but with tempered expectations.

Had a great time out at Bar 44. It was a busy night but that contributed to a lively atmosphere. The table service was excellent, friendly with great recommendations for food, and the food was served in a timely manner. The food was also delicious. Had 5 dishes for the main course with some bread, which was delicious when dipped into the sauce from the shrimp! Well worth a visit! Looking forward to going back!

I haven't been to Bar44 for a few years and popped in for their croquettes which I used to have. I didn't see the menu but was asked how many I would like as they are now charged per croquette. The young man didn't tell me the cost and I didn't ask, wrongly assuming the dish would be about £6 to £7. How wrong was I!!! Terribly expensive at £2.80 per croquette!! They were the size of half a golf ball and bland. I was very disappointed, paid seeing no point in complaining and won't be returning.
Mavis J — Google review
Overall a nice place But small portions & expensive 3 small pieces of cheese with honey £7, the manchego looks the same as the Costco cheese selection! 3 small pieces of chicken for £8.50 3 baby squid for £9 which went cold quickly due to the plates being cold cold

Fantastic food and service was outstanding. Made to feel very welcome by the team who made sure that we had the best experience. Food was 5 star. If you want tapas this is the place to visit!

Consistently one of the best places to eat in Wales. Love all of the food, great Vermut and wine, the UVA44 red is delicious. Staff are always friendly. No point recommending certain dishes because it's all delicious.

Ego at The Schooner Inn in Penarth is a beloved destination for families, especially those looking to honor cherished memories. With a diverse menu that caters to various appetites, including lighter fare and gluten-free options, there's something for everyone. Guests appreciate the friendly staff who create a welcoming atmosphere, although some have noted that service could be more attentive at times. The restaurant has successfully adapted post-lockdown with safety measures in place, allowing diners to feel secure while enjoying their meals.
The service was very good, impossible to fault. The food was very tasty, not the cheapest place to visit but I think it was worth it.
Scott L — Google review
Had lunch here 12/10/24 and compared to our last visit two years ago the food and service was disappointing; the two younger ladies were perhaps lacking in humour, one knocking over a bottle of beer which fortunately had little left in it, perhaps it had been a busy day for them. Regarding the food, the Iberian style pork I had two years ago was exceptional; but it was not on the menu today. The Moroccan lamb I chose was pleasant but not in the same class. My wife’s vegetarian pizza had a tasty base but the topping was also uninspiring. We were asked when being served if we would like any sauces to go with the meals; when we enquired of some balsamic glaze for the pizza (a fairly common accompaniment for pizza) we were told they didn’t do it. However, the venue is very nice indeed and the deco tastefully done and is kept well. It is also good that they have a section where you can dine accompanied by your pets. Will I rush back? Probably not for a while. But, it may have just been an off day for them, which happens at any establishment now and again.

Been wanting to come here for awhile, so what a time than for my birthday. We were early for our booking but we were allowed in which was great. Staff really attentive and helpful. We planned on having a 3 course meal each but couldn’t fit it in. We all had starters and a main. Great tasting food and really good portions. You can also sign up for vouchers off which is good too. I used a birthday voucher which entitles me to a “free” 3 course meal so long as someone else in the group ordered a starter, main and dessert. But they regularly send me vouchers for 20% off too. Would recommend!
Danielle T — Google review
Delicious meal at the Ego restaurant. I had a slightly more expensive starter of scallops and prawns, whereas my partner had the soup of the day, both of which were delicious. My main was sea bass and one of the nicest dishes I have had in a long time. Dessert was a lemon tart with raspberry ice cream. The cocktails were lovely and reasonably priced. They didn't have the wine I wanted ( Picpoul), so I went with a Sauvignon that was lovely. The service was excellent, and the restaurant looked lovely and was wonderfully air-conditioned. It was a fabulous evening with family, and it's always a pleasure to come here.

Staff were nice. Pleasant surroundings inside. Outdoor area. Decent sized car park. Popped in for soft drinks. They were a bit expensive though. Ladies toilet was tiny. Quash against the toilet bowl to get in and out 😬😬😬

It was my husband’s 40th birthday and we came in with our daughters to celebrate at lunchtime. Charlotte (P) our server was incredible throughout. She was great with the children and brought them an activity pack. Drinks and food were very quick and delicious. And they made a fuss of my husband with a sparkler and message for his bday for his dessert. We came in on a Wednesday so had the Wed dining deal and they reduced costs on our daughter’s meals for half term voucher. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. :-) Thank you, especially Charlotte!

From a former Harvester to a upper class dining experience with a warm, trendy and stylish vibe. This is not a place to go under dressed but it's certainly not top hat and tails. The food being served all around was excellent and so colourful with excellent service and speed.

The food was great, particularly enjoyed the Prawns and Scallops as well as the duo of pork. Our server Liesl was brilliant! She was was polite and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Located on Windsor Street in Penarth, Ocho Lounge offers a fantastic range of food and drinks, including options for kids, gluten-free and vegan diets. The spacious two-floor restaurant features lovely floral wallpaper and a mix of patrons of all ages. While the atmosphere is generally great, some guests have experienced interruptions from loud dogs at nearby tables. Despite this, the lounge is perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee before heading out to explore the town.
I recently visited Coho Lounge in Penarth and had a fantastic experience. The service was really good from the moment we walked in—polite staff made us feel welcome and were attentive without being overbearing. The food was tasty, with a great variety of options that catered to different dietary needs. What really stood out was the quirky and interesting decor—it gives the place a unique character that makes it more than just another café-bar. There’s a relaxed and good vibe throughout, perfect whether you’re there for a casual drink or a full meal. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a laid-back spot in Penarth with great food, a fun atmosphere, and genuinely friendly service.

We came in for a late lunch. Upstairs enough tables to choose from. A Good manu with gluten free and vegan options. Friendly and helpful staff. When visiting Penarth is recommended to make a stop here for something to eat. Worth it 100%

Have not visited a lounge before, but had been looking online to find a place that matches my husband's traditional taste with my vegetarian preference (not just veg lasagne from the freezer!). I haven't found anywhere that is as good locally. Food was lovely, the gentleman who served us, was helpful but not pushy, good atmosphere with a mix of ages. Overall lovely experience. Will definitely be back.
Bea B — Google review
The atmosphere is friendly, but it could use a bit more warmth. Although I haven't dined here myself, I've noticed that many others do, which speaks to its popularity. The menu is comprehensive, with tapas being a particular highlight. While the beer selection isn't extensive, it is satisfactory. Overall, it's a nice spot worth considering!

Frequented this establishment many times. Always had great food and service. Had a friend's dog to look after so was perfect choice.

10 of us went for breakfast for my sons birthday, I had reserved a table, it was all set up when we arrived. 5 stars all around , great service the food was well presented and really tasty , a real good variety to choose from too . The staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Claire D — Google review
Waitress with Curley hair in pony tails attitude after dropping the food on delivery to the table was terrible after she asked us if we would like another and I responded with yes. She picks the chicken up and walks off returning 1minute later with the same chicken. After stating this to the waitress she comes back and says it’s been back in the fryer so it kills all the bacteria after she’s handled it with her grubby hands. That’s pretty much makes it the same as if it falls on the floor it’s fine to eat if it’s been recooked. We’re went born yesterday to not realise.

Cider bar
Located in the heart of Cardiff city center, The Cardiff Stable is a popular pub offering two floors of top-notch service. Established in 2009, this pub is renowned for its wide selection of over eighty different types of cider sourced from large and small orchards. It's not just about the drinks though; the industrial-chic aesthetic and sports appeal make it a favorite among sports enthusiasts. The interior, food, and drinks all contribute to the overall satisfaction of patrons.
Lovely warm welcome upon arrival, wasn’t sure what lager to order and was offered a sample which I obliged. Ordered one lager, margarita pizza and a side salad total was £20.30 Lager was very nice and different from the usual brands. The pizza was made with fresh dough, and cooked to perfection. Salad was also nice and a very generous portion. A well deserved 5 stars 🌟

Amazing food and cider flight! Pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely be returning
Rachel B — Google review
Food is decent but I’m not a fan of places where all the ordering is done on an app. The staff were friendly but one star for service given the process of ordering from your phone.
Alastair W — Google review
If I could recommend this place a thousand times, I would! We booked a table before going to the Utilita Arena, I would highly recommend booking in advance if you’re going to an event because it can get busy. There are QR codes on the table for you to order but unfortunately ours didn’t work, so we had to go to the bar to order. I had the Green Machine Mac & Cheese which was delicious. My partner had the Rocket Man pizza which he said was great, it was quite big but it was thin so not too filling. We also had to have the tater tots which are always among the best I’ve ever had!! It was busy when we arrived, but service was still impeccable and we didn’t wait too long for food. If I’m ever in the arena for an event, I absolutely will be coming here.
B — Google review
Nice and clean place. Staff are amazing and friendly. Prices are reasonable. Pizza was okayish, wasn’t the best. Too thin and bit greasy. My wine was very good though.

Food and drinks at Stable today, I forget how great this place is. Firstly booked for 6 but ended up being 8 which was accommodated with no fuss. Pizza's were insane. The best selection of ciders and beers. Staff amazing too. Great, straightforward, no fuss, good value, delicious food, great service. Just what we all needed after Cardiff Half.
L H — Google review
Absolutely amazing service by Charlotte and Alex, made sure we had enough food and drink, would 100% recommend as it’s fabulous, £37 for bottomless cocktails and food!!! Please make sure Charlotte and Alex get a congratulations and are rewarded for their great service!! Sean was also lovely during the night. Great team overall!!
Bec J — Google review
Bottomless brunch is really good value for money. As a group of 5 we shared bowls of tater tots, garlic bread and nachos to start. This was probably enough food, but then also had a pizza each! The staff were great, really friendly and helpful. I think our waiters name was Evan and he was exceptional. We had booked a table on a day there was a big concert in the castle so everywhere was extremely busy, however this did not reflect in the service. We didn’t have to wait long for our food or drinks. Would highly recommend

Bar
Nestled in the charming town of Penarth, The Touring Club is a delightful bar and restaurant that brings together the culinary expertise of founders Dylan Griffith, Rowan Hobbs, Grant Maunder, and celebrity chef Bryn Williams. Drawing inspiration from a rustic watering hole in Patagonia, this unique venue features an inviting open kitchen and a cozy wood burner. Guests can indulge in a thoughtfully curated drinks menu alongside modern small plates that showcase local ingredients with South American flair.
I visited this restaurant twice, for lunch and dinner, and I loved every moment. The service is friendly, and the warm welcome makes the experience very enjoyable. The atmosphere is modern and cozy, perfect for a night out with friends or a date. I particularly enjoyed the Welsh rarebit, which was rich and flavorful, as well as the cawl, a comforting Welsh stew that was perfectly seasoned. Overall, it’s a place I highly recommend for its delicious food and inviting atmosphere!
Dominique — Google review
11/5/25: This was my fourth or fifth visit to The Touring Club, and while it’s consistently enjoyable, there are still a few quirks. Their online booking system doesn’t seem to allow lunchtime reservations for the day when looked at lunch time —only later in the day—which can be a bit frustrating. Had a 5 star review write up from the Telegraph and was very busy the last few visits. That said, I arrived around 2pm on a sunny Sunday (about 24°C), and it was quiet, with just a couple of other tables occupied. The staff kindly opened up the windows, and one group sat half inside and half out, making the most of the weather. We were seated in the upstairs lounge area, which has a cocktail bar feel more than a typical dining setup—leather stools without backrests, and a more casual atmosphere. Food-wise, the crab on sourdough was generous and well-prepared, with both white and brown meat. A special on offer, described as a roulade but more like a terrine of pork with herbs and apple, was nicely balanced and came with crisp fried sourdough slices, salad, and a light dressing. Service was attentive and friendly throughout. Drinks are always a highlight here. The special cocktail of the day—a rum and orange blend—was refreshing and served in a margarita glass. The basil cocktail remains their standout signature, though its quality can vary slightly depending on who’s behind the bar. This time, it was spot-on. Overall, another solid visit—good food, great drinks, and relaxed service in a stylish space. Second Visit: Disappointing Compared to the First! My first visit to The Touring Club left a lasting impression—minimalistic Scandinavian design, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent food and drinks. Unfortunately, my second experience didn’t quite live up to the same standards. The sleek black exterior and Scandi-inspired interior remain highlights. The glass roof and open kitchen add charm, while the mix of bar seating, window stools, and cozy tables offers versatility. On this visit, I sat upstairs at the long communal table before moving downstairs as seats became available. However, space management remains an issue. By 2:15 PM, the venue felt cramped when a group of five arrived. The food aromas were present but not overwhelming, and the view of the chefs from the bar seating is still a nice touch. The Beef Sliders: Disappointingly dry, with average-quality meat. The kimchi and cheese added some flavor but lacked the moisture or richness a good sauce could have provided. The Crab and mango Salad: A lackluster dish with a small portion for the price. While the pesto was passable, the crab was underwhelming, and the accompanying vegetables didn’t elevate the dish. Gin Basil Smash cocktail : A letdown this time—less intensity and balance compared to my previous visit. The drink lacked the vibrant flavors I had enjoyed the first time. The team is warm but seemed somewhat overwhelmed - the wait for order was long and had to come down to ground level to prompt. Also be aware of a food service break between breakfast and lunch (12:30–1:00 PM) creates a gap where no food is served, which could be inconvenient for some diners.
Travelling D — Google review
We found this spot on the Michelin guide and it was wonderful. The aesthetic of the restaurant is amazing. It is so well thought out, and creates such a cool vibe, from the large log burn, to the open kitchen and open window and bar style seating. The staff and chef were so friendly and the food was delicious. A great hidden gem.
Anastasia Q — Google review
First visit to the Touring Club and I would say it was a mixed experience. Food overall was very good, although the potato terrine was slightly misdescribed as it was covered in a mayo style sauce which wasn't mentioned anywhere on the menu. Service very mixed. Attentive and friendly to start with, but we were never offered a drink beyond when we first arrived and sat with dirty plates and empty glasses for around half an hour. We were going to order cocktails to end our night but just decided to leave in the end. Slightly disappointing end to what was overall a good experience.
Stacey-Jo S — Google review
Visited the Touring Club for an early Valentine's dinner. Unique atmosphere - would recommend sitting in the bar area to see the open kitchen and live cooking. We found the menu slightly limited especially in terms of main dishes with the only two meat options both having beef, however I would totally recommend the beef cheeks! Overall pleasant experience with great service, but slightly disappointed with the menu options; quality was great though! Street parking available after 8pm but be aware that kitchen closes quite early.

The Captains Wife is a spacious, country-style pub that has been painted in a bright white color. It offers a selection of classic pub dishes and serves cask ales. Recently, customers enjoyed a pleasant meal at the establishment with their partner. They ordered a burger and a vegetarian wrap, accompanied by a delicious pint of Tribute beer. The attentive waitress provided excellent service throughout the visit.
What a beautiful pub set in a beautiful location. The staff were very polite and welcoming and the food was perfect. Very reasonably priced as well. Just one small negative comment, I think the gents toilet requires some TLC.

Delicious food with a view. I visited by chance, but will surely visit again. I had the Fish and Chips which was authentic and home cooked. Had a fantastic meal at The Captain’s Wife in Cardiff! The food was delicious, the seaside views were stunning, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Waited for 1.5 hour for my fish and chips which was average at best. They got me sweet chilly when I asked for tobacco or any spicy alternative.. after asking a few more times got some fresh chillies My both friends had a roast dinner which was absolutely dry and barely any gravy on it, one came with starters and another one hour later. No one would be apologetic or friendly. Food is not worth it, I would definitely give it a miss, there are many far more better places in the area

We booked a private room at The Captain’s Friend in Sully for a baby shower, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Katy, was absolutely lovely and shared a bit of the building’s history, and she sorted everything out perfectly. The room already had fairy lights on the ceiling, so we just added our own bunting, balloons, and banners. The food was delicious, and there were no issues at all. Considering the room itself was free and we just paid for food and drinks, it was a brilliant deal. We’d absolutely recommend it!

We have a lovely time whenever we go. It’s dog friendly so that’s a massive plus whether we sit inside or outside. The staff are always lovely and helpful as well as making a fuss of the dog. Revolución de Cuba in Cardiff is a vibrant bar and restaurant that has quickly become a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Located near the lively Friary and Cardiff Castle, it offers a taste of Latin American and Caribbean culture with live bands and an extensive menu of tapas dishes. The venue boasts sultry lounge areas, alluring lighting, and an impressive selection of cocktails including Tiki Classics like The Zombie and the fruity Strawbana Rumrise.
Fantastic place for drinks and food! The atmosphere here is amazing and the Cuban-inspired food here is delicious and offers something a bit different. Aside from the food choices there are so many great cocktail options. We even got to make some in our own masterclass behind the bar which was so much fun.

We booked a cocktail class for a hen and it was so much fun. The class was for 15 people, aged between 22 and 76, Luke our cocktail master was amazing! He made the class fun for everyone, catered for allergies and made sure everyone could take part. With a mix of aged and physical abilities, we are a tough crowd (plus we had an additional 3 people join us but not take part in the class), we all had such a good time! The class really got us in the mood for the rest of the day and we would definitely book in again. Thank you so much!

Booked for bottomless brunch, which comes with a welcome drink, a dish, bottomless drinks (from a selection)... And a 90min time limit 25 mins into our booking and nobody had taken any order for drinks or food. They eventually did, after one of our group searched someone down. Welcome drinks arrived about 40mins in (surely these should be arriving more like 5 mins after arrival!), food arrived 75 mins in. I'd asked for the sauce on the side, but that didn't happen. While the waitress was dropping drinks to our table, we asked to make another order as they were taking a while to get to us. We were told that we weren't her table and she was flustered and shirty with us. When drinks did arrive, they were unceramoniously dumped at the end of the table, leading to lots of confusion about what had arrived and who for. We had a table booked elsewhere for 2 hours after brunch started, but had to delay it due to the slow service at Cuba. It was very loud and difficult to chat. Definitely won't be rushing back.

Worst meal and service that I have had in Cardiff. Thirty minutes after ordering online, we finally had to stop a waitress AND ask at the bar where our orders were at. We were told the orders were coming! Thirty minutes later they finally came. The chicken was microwaved until it was so dry it was inedible. In addition I have had better Cubanos at the neighborhood sub shop. The whole experience was beyond disappointing. Take my advice and go down the street.

Bar 44 Cardiff is a stylish bar-restaurant located near the Millennium Stadium, offering a refined selection of Spanish tapas. The venue features decorative Spanish elements and vintage Tio Pepe adverts, creating an elegant atmosphere. The menu includes daily-changing one-pots and traditional dishes like Galician fish stew and slow-cooked meat-and-chickpea concoction cocido.
We had an excellent meal here and it couldn’t be improved. Each dish was amazing and not too pricey, with quality ingredients. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and happy to answer any questions. The atmosphere was warm and cosy - couldn’t recommend enough.

The most perfect way to spend an early evening or lunch. The 3 tapas and a drink for £22 offer is outstanding value for the quality of food you get. I’ve been all over Spain and the U.K. and other than in very few Spanish places, it has to be the best tortilla I’ve had. Runny and gooey like it’s meant to be, not stone cold and dry like a lot of U.K. places. The chicken was so soft and tender. Machego with honey.. need I say more. My only criticism is they might want to invest in some kind of sound proofing as it does get very noisy. Otherwise definitely coming back!
Victoria P — Google review
Loved the authentic Spanish tapas here. Each dish felt thoughtfully crafted, and the flavors reminded me of being in Spain. The staff were knowledgeable about the wines — a fantastic dining experience overall.

A fantastic tapas bar/restaurant! We opted for the early evening menu which offers a drink and 3 tapas for £24 which we found to be excellent value. We enjoyed every dish and also the red berry sangria very much. Portion sizes were generous for tapas at the price point. We could easily have ordered more but decided to go for dessert, both of which were again, excellent. Very tasty food. If we return to Cardiff we will definitely try the sherry flight tastings which also looked good value! In short - lovely surroundings, friendly staff, excellent food and a great choice of dishes. Highly recommend.

We arrived without and booking and were welcomed by Gemma, who was really accommodating and offered us a big table even though it was a Saturday evening. We ended up taking one for two as it was quieter, but the flexiblity already made a really good impression. Gemma knew the menu inside out and made exellent recommendation on both food and drink. This was the type of service you normally only get in the US. Every dish was amazing (shrimps, fish, anchovy cesar salad, artichoke, blue cheese and Basque Cheese cake) and the house sherry and brandy excellent. This is the best dinner I have had this year. I would actually come to Cardiff to eat here agin, The food and drink is better than Spain!

I recently visited Slug & Lettuce with my colleagues, and we had such a lovely time. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, perfect for winding down after work. Our server, Joe, was absolutely fantastic: friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. The food and drinks were great, and the whole experience felt easy and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend, and we’ll be back again soon. Thanks, Joe!

I visited slug and lettuce to celebrate my birthday. We arrived early and the team let us sit down anyways and within five minutes we had our first of many drink orders. The drinks were continuous and the service was spot on. The food was lovely, however could have been a better variety. Overall I enjoyed my time very much, drinks were amazing and atmosphere was brilliant 🤩

Had such a great time here! Jasmine was absolutely amazing — so friendly and attentive throughout. The food was delicious, and the bottomless drinks came quickly, even with the busy crowd. The music was a bit loud for us and it got quite warm upstairs, but the lively vibe made up for it. Overall, a fantastic experience with brilliant service — we’ll definitely be back!

Came here for a bottomless brunch with a friend we had a great time. We were served by Tilly who had an amazing attitude, was so lovely, and good drinks knowledge. Drinks came out quickly and food was good too. Would definitely come back for a bottomless or just drinks again!

Had an afternoon bottomless brunch with my choir ladies (26 of us) the service was excellent. Jess our main gal was so sweet, efficient and professional. The drinks were great and the food excellent. We sang happy birthday to 3 different parties and did a rendtion of O Gymru on the stairs for the whole pub before leaving. Great afternoon. Great atmosphere and great value for money. We will be back.

Very poor for what I envisaged a decent establishment. Food very mediocre, service was non existent. Had to order food at bar, we were a table of 9 and food came out for 3 of us.. 3 others about 5 mins later, 2 others another 5 mins and 1 had to wait another 15 mins as you can see on photo all finished and guy on end just started.. its just poor, you ensure everones meals are ready together. Had to ask for cutlery. No one asked if we needed any sauces. No one asked if we enjoyed food. No apology for lateness of the 1 meal. Totally sterile waiting staff..

The restaurant brews six core beers on-site, serving them fresh from the tank without any additives. Additionally, they offer limited-edition special brews each month and wood-fired oven-baked pizzas made to order. Visitors can also book brewery tours to see behind the scenes.
Dog friendly micro brewery serving good food and a very large selection of unusual beers. Staff happy to help you choose, that's why I ever up with a black lager! Very nice though.

Not bad not great. It seems to have loads of potential but I just wasn't overly fond of the beers I had. We ate there later on as everywhere was rammed and the food was OK. The pizza dough tasted quite dry. I suspect the hydration needs to be higher. Much better than chain pubs but sub standard for a micro brewery

Friendly and welcoming staff, guided us through the options and were very welcoming to whatever we wanted to customise. Loved the beers and cocktails. Didn't get any food.

Excellent craft beer and pizza restaurant, really great service, fun, polite and professional, good craft beer, good offers on steins, and amazing pizza. We shared the pear and Gorgonzola, and goats cheese pizza, with rosemary garlic bread. All fantastic, brilliantly cooked, great dough base and generous toppings.

An absolute unwelcoming place. Came in today, group of three. No smiles, greetings.. We ordered food and watched the chef make our amazing pizzas. Our food was ready but no servers. . The lovely lady in the kitchen then had to serve us food as nowhere to see anybody for more then 30minutes. The chef even did checkback. And offered to help us cut the pizza's. After an eternity two staff members came out from the office and continued chatting on bar. The couple on the bar gave us an absolute horrible service and as a fellow hospitality worker.. it was the most ignorant service ever .. Thanks to the chef for the amazing pizzas and kind service. My advice change the front of the house staff as they are letting down this place more and more.

We visited Zero Degrees for an informal working dinner with colleagues from several countries. The venue seemed ideal — relaxed, flexible, and well-suited to our group’s staggered arrival times. Unfortunately, the evening was disrupted by extremely loud karaoke, which made it impossible to hold any meaningful conversation. For a large group booking, we would have expected to be informed in advance about such events, as it significantly affected the purpose of our gathering.

Had an enjoyable Sunday lunch here. The space is huge! Can only imagine the buzz when it’s filled with people on Friday night! First, excellent beers, I tried their signature mango beer - delicious. The pizzas were alright, we ordered one capricciosa that was great and one with pear and gorgonzola, which was a slight disappointment. Great dough but there was too much of everything apart from pear and gorgonzola, other cheeses, red base, some rocket and sprinkles of spicy mayo(?). So overall a nice impression, but next time I’ll get another pizza ;)

I rarely put 5 stars for a restaurant in this type of cuisine (and I'm coming from a foodie island in Malaysia) but this is 5 stars - everything from the service to the flavours - bursting - I was astounded and very pleased from the appetizers to the desserts of the Sunday menu. The chef even recommended me an item (skate) off-menu as he found out I liked fish! Definitely will be coming back

Had the Thursday promo (buy one get one free). T-bone steak was tender, delicately seasoned and perfectly medium rare. Chicken in tomato sauce was fine, but stick with the steaks (which can compete with the best I've had all over the world). Enjoyed the beers they recommended too. Warm, responsive staff. Got a great table in front of the bar- spacing is enough that you can enjoy the bustling environment and yet have a private conversation. Would revisit. Update 5/4/2025. Visited again 2 days later to try more of their dishes. Crispy fish and chips, lamb rump paired well with harissa jus and generous sides (savoury sausages, couscous and ratatouille). Appreciated the crispy edges of the lamb fat (at the cost of some parts of the lamb being closer to medium well than medium). I conclude that my favourite thing here is still the steaks, and I should follow my own advice and stick with those.

Superb hidden gem of a pub / restaurant. Stumbled across this excellent venue while staying in the area. We went on Wednesday steak night and had the T-Bone. Everything about the food was heavenly from the perfect cooked chips to the delicious steak with the incredible peppercorn sauce. The chef certainly can cook, no question! Staff were very friendly and attentive and the selection of drinks was varied. Especially enjoyed the choice of craft beers on tap. We are already planning another visit before we leave the area and head home… it was THAT good.

We popped in for a belated Valentine’s Day on Friday and despite it being busy, we thankfully managed to get a table (thanks Cat!). The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks while browsing the menu. I ordered the Camembert Samosa while my partner ordered the Breakfast Scotch Egg for starters. The portions were great and the food was gorgeous! Now for the mains, I opted for the Slow Braised Brisket of Beef, while my partner ordered the Roasted Lamb Rump. Both were amazing and again the portion sizes were generous. I couldn’t fault a thing. The atmosphere in there was great and we’ll definitely be back! Thank you! I can’t wait to see what Francois and Serge do with the place!

Just popped in for lunch and chose the Ultimate Veggie Burger. One of the best I have had in a long while. It included super tasty cauliflower bites and cheese sauce. Gorgeous! I was introduced to this pub by a friend, and now I find myself coming here every couple of days. As a writer, I love the inspiring atmosphere—it’s the perfect place to work, reflect, and connect with like-minded people. I haven’t had the chance to try the food yet, but if it’s anything like the tea, coffee, and draught beers, I’m sure it’s fantastic. The warm and welcoming environment makes every visit enjoyable, whether I’m writing, meeting friends, or just soaking in the ambiance. Highly recommend!

Pear tree is a Gem with Character and Warmth:) Pear Tree has become my go-to spot to unwind with friends or get lost in writing. It has a vintage charm that gives it a character of its own—cozy, inviting, and filled with a warm atmosphere. The staff, including the manager, are incredibly friendly and well-mannered, always making sure you feel welcomed. Their service is top-notch, and I was pleasantly surprised by the little details that make a difference. I ordered a simple tomato soup, and the chef went full MasterChef mode—beautifully plating it with neatly cut bread on the side and delicate crumbs on top. It’s the kind of attention to detail that elevates the experience. Another big plus? The waiting time is surprisingly short, making it even easier to enjoy a relaxed visit. Whether you're looking for a chill hangout or a cozy writing nook, I’d definitely recommend Pear Tree Pub!

We did have to wait a little while but server came over & apologised as it was very busy. But the wait was worth it. I had a large plate filled with fish chips & peas. The battered fish was one of the best to die for. Big & chunky fish with a delicious batter. The chips tasted great too. I am a visitor to Cardiff & will return. Highly recommend their food

Can't leave a zero star review. That's what this place deserves. Really disappointed. Haven't been in for a while won't go again. Pear tree is advertised to be open all day for serving food. When told there is no food for an hour is not good, because kitchen is on a break. Especially on a bank holiday. Final straw was the rude bar staff. Returned to bar because the glass was dirty. 2 glasses later and no apology. We left.
Susana L — Google review
Had a lovely breakfast with family here on Sunday, it was quiet and the staff were really accommodating with us ordering things that weren't strictly on the menu. Really fair prices, especially for the coffee which was so good!! We had a toddler with us and felt really welcomed. And it was nice and clean when we visited too. There are seasonal drinks and board games so I see potential for tipsy Scrabble in the future. A couple of years ago my boyfriend and I used to come here for dates which was always really nice.
Emma P — Google review
Where to start.. Bear in mind this is one of my locals and I literally just left the place. The pub has loads of potential and it's in a good location. Unfortunately, it's run by incompetent people. The management has recently changed and I was hoping for some improvements and some changes in the menu or beer selection at least. I was wrong. They kept exactly the same boring selection of food and beers, and just put up the prices. The place is always understaffed (I just left and there were 10 people queuing and only one person behind the bar on a Friday evening). The toilets are dirty. The guys behind the bar are actually nice and they do their best given the circumstances. Clearly the problem here lies entirely with the management. I come to the PT as it's 30 seconds from my house and there is not much choice in the area, let's be honest. This is the only reason. Advice for the management: either quit or if you decide to take over a pub, try at least to make some changes and offer something new to your clients, as the place is screaming for it and laziness doesn't pay off.

I first visited Villa Napoli in early June 2025 and I should have written this then. I was very impressed by the waiter/manager on that occasion. I am dairy intolerant and I feel so reassured when the waiter knows all the dishes in their head, exactly what’s in each of them and how they can recommend or adapt to suit my dairy intolerance. It gives you the feeling that you are safe and being looked after (which means a lot). The meal was really good too. Very tasty. Definitely somewhere to come back to. Probably a good idea to book ahead though.

Lovely service and good ambience. The quality of the food and presentation is good. My calzone could have spent another minute in the oven as some of the bread on the end was not cooked. My wife's carbonara contained more pepper than she likes so was unable to finish it.

I stayed in the rooms above. I cannot recommend the place enough. My work had messed up my booking, meaning I booked here at the very last minute and my allowance of £25 was carried over as I arrived super late. They spoiled me. Gave me a bottle of wine as I missed a night of food to take home for the Mrs. The food was some of the best food I have ever had, especially the lamb.... Honestly. I will come back just to eat and I'm over 3hrs away. Many thanks.

Restaurant
Thomas by Tom Simmons is a high-end brasserie in Pontcanna, Cardiff, offering French-inspired dishes made with Welsh ingredients. Since its opening in February 2020, it has gained popularity among celebrities and national restaurant critics. The restaurant's elegant ambiance complements the exquisite menu curated by Pembrokeshire-born chef Tom Simmons. Dishes like Welsh lamb cannon with crispy lamb belly and black garlic showcase the fusion of French technique and Welsh produce.
We had vouchers for here, which expired in December 2024. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemo, so I emailed to see if we could extend the voucher, which the restaurant said was no problem. I then needed radio added on so had to extend the vouchers another two times, which they were more than happy to accommodate. Once we were there (finally!) the experience was fantastic, everything from the staff, the atmosphere, the food was phenomenal. Due to the radio my mouth is quite sensitive, the staff were more than happy to provide me with some samples of wine and whiskey to see which worked best for me. Our first meal out since our boy was born and since I finished treatment. It was a great experience.

Visited here on a Saturday night, the place seems very hectic for what’s meant to be fine dining. We went for the £85 tasting menu, a few glasses of wine each etc and the food just felt flat. The food lacked seasoning, although the presentation was beautiful, I had to ask for Salt which you don’t expect especially for that price point. I’d been to Hiraeth a few days before and it just didn’t match up to it on service, atmosphere or food quality. I think they’re out pricing themselves for the quality & atmosphere vs other comparable tasting menu places in the area.
Victoria P — Google review
Menu’s on the pricey side, portions are small (as you’d expect for a fine dining restaurant) but can’t complain about the quality of food - we ordered all the mains except the chateaubriand and a few starters and desserts, all were great and sophisticated but I liked the desserts best - try the peanut butter parfait and yuzu cake! Overall for the price we paid everything is up to standard but not mind-blowing good. Would love to visit again for their lunch menu.

From the second we arrived we were made to feel welcome and cared for. This was a celebration meal for a promotion and the card on the table was a lovely gesture, which I will treasure. I explained at the start of the meal that I wanted to have the wine tasting experience aswell, however due to medical reasons I am unable to drink that much alcohol. We were offered the chance to have 1 glass of each shared between the 2 of us. Each The food was out of this world, I felt like I should try everything, including the marmite butter, I am not sure what sort of wizardry they had done but I actually loved it! The whole experience was amazing unique experience, well worth spending more than you would normally.......

We visited Thomas yesterday for my birthday and were so impressed. The staff were friendly and welcoming but very knowledgeable about the menu and wines. Thoroughly impressed with the space and the services offered. I think one improvement that could be made is to the seating area on the ground floor. It crowds the bar a bit which can quickly become a bottleneck when the venue is busy. The theatre rooms themselves were brill, great to see the sound and stage effects team working behind the scenes at the rear of the seating area. Seating was perfect for a 1-2 hour showing, any longer might be rougher on the knees and back. Staff were super friendly, offered all sorts of recommendations. Beautiful outside seating area with heatlamps provided.

Today I attended an event at Chapter Arts Centre focused on patients, medication, and our health.. bringing together doctors, pharmacists, clinics, advocacy groups, and patients alike. The event itself was wonderful: informative, inclusive, and full of positive conversations about how we can better support one another. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the venue’s actions. Attendees were asked to leave because the staff were not up to date on what CBMPs (Cannabis-Based Medicinal Products) are. This decision felt deeply discriminatory toward people who rely on prescribed medication for legitimate health conditions. It’s important to remember that the Equality Act exists for exactly this reason.. to ensure no one is treated unfairly due to their health or medical needs. Stigma should never override the law or compassion. Many of us attending were simply trying to participate in an event about health and wellbeing, yet we were made to feel excluded for managing our health responsibly. I truly hope Chapter Arts Centre takes this as an opportunity to educate their team, review their policies, and work toward becoming a more inclusive and understanding venue. No patient should have to fear being discriminated against for their prescribed treatment.

Great venue. All refurbished since I last visited (more than 10 years ago). Friendly, spacious cafe and bar and comfortable cinema screens. We parked a few minutes walk away

Great location and space It's fab they have vynil music evenings. BUT I have not seen a decent exhibition here for the last three years. They always look like random items from the charity shop bin. I went there again today, and they have empty picture frames on display.. Give local artists a chance, employ local people who are in touch with the community.
Oksana Z — Google review
Me and my dad went just for the gallery and we absolutely loved and analyzed the current exhibition. We really like what the artists were expressing and felt the difficulties endured by those immigrant women. It was thought provoking. We got a pleasant and interesting visit. I recommend this place especially if you're into modern art.

I discover this beautiful Centre during my last time in Cardiff. Stop over for a coffee and a cake in the large coffee bar. A wonderful ample room, with a lovely atmosphere, where to socialise over a coffee, but there is much than a cafe: cinemas, theatres, exhibition spaces, studios, etc. Im coming back.
A A — Google review
I've been coming to Chapter for 6 years and it's such a fantastic and valuable centre for arts and culture in Cardiff. The cinema programme is always really interesting - a mix of films that would be shown at the bigger chains, smaller films that I don't see elsewhere, and series/festivals (e.g. animation film festival, short films etc). I've only been to see a theatre show here once but it was great. The Caffi Bar serves excellent food and drink and is a lovely place to chill out by yourself or with friends. Diolch yn fawr to the Chapter team!

Modern European restaurant
Silures, a delightful new addition to Cardiff's dining scene, has reopened its charming garden space and roof terrace as of May 7th, 2024. This dog-friendly venue invites guests to savor lunch, drinks, or small plates inspired by modern European cuisine from Tuesday to Sunday. Nestled on Wellfield Road in Roath, Silures is the brainchild of two industry veterans who have previously worked at prestigious establishments like The Savoy in London.
This is one of the top restaurants in Cardiff. Me and my partner booked this restaurant as we like to explore new dishes and this place did not disappoint. We went for a la carte dinner. Everything exceeded our expectations. Ideal for date night. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.
Palida S — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Silures in Cardiff, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was greeted with warm and friendly smiles from the staff. The ambiance of the restaurant was cosy and inviting, creating the perfect atmosphere for a delightful meal. Speaking of the meal, the food at Silures truly exceeded my expectations. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was a masterpiece, bursting with flavours that left my taste buds dancing with joy. The menu offered a wide range of options, ensuring there was something to satisfy every palate. What impressed me even more was the reasonable prices for such high-quality cuisine. It's not often you find a restaurant that offers such a fantastic dining experience at such affordable prices. The staff at Silures played a significant role in making my visit memorable. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about their craft. Their friendly and accommodating nature made me feel right at home, and their recommendations were spot-on. I simply cannot speak highly enough about Silures. If you're looking for a restaurant that combines delicious food, reasonable prices, and a welcoming atmosphere, then look no further. Silures is the place to be. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

When you first enter Silures, it feels like an elevated pub but lo and behold, you will soon be transported to a fantastic, mouthwatering and well curated dining experience when you ascend the stairs. Never one to shy away from an expensive menu, I did find some of the entrées to be a bit overpriced. Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about the meal, including the soft lighting and intimate decor on the first floor. I highly recommend this restaurant when in Cardiff.

Dined in the new terrace outside which was beautiful! Salmon rillete was one of the nicest things I’ve eaten in Cardiff! Staff lovely. Risotto and prawns were epic tasted so fresh!

My wife & I had another amazing evening at Silures. We started with cocktails in the quaint and private garden. Our meal was in the main restaurant which is wonderfully decorated. We always start our meal with olive oil sourdough, which is amazingly grilled without a hint of oiliness. The Buffalo Burrata was a starter we tried as well and worth a mention. Go to mains for us are the fillet steaks which are always perfectly grilled with amazing sides. Silures is a gem in the heart of the city on Wellfield Road and highly recommended for quality of drinks, amazing food and a great ambience.

Absolutely incredible venue. Everything about it. The most pleasant, professional friendly staff. Beautiful food so elegantly done. A rare find in Cardiff. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a drink, food or nibble. Divine

Such a beautiful restaurant, we went to Silures for a birthday meal with a large group. Had the prawns to start, sea bass for main, and basque cheesecake for dessert. The prawns and sea bass were delicious, the cheesecake wasn’t the best basque cheesecake I’ve ever had, it could have been more creamy. I was really impressed with the mocktails, they weren’t just fruit juice, actual thought has gone into creating this menu. The waiters were amazing, the only reason I’ve marked down the service is because there were quite long waits in between courses and I appreciate with a large group this does happen, but even the desserts took 30/40 minutes to arrive and only a few of us had them. I would definitely go back, top quality food 👌
Alanna D — Google review
We visited Silures last year for our anniversary dinner and were genuinely impressed, it set the standard for special occasions. The team went above and beyond, with a personalised anniversary card and a celebratory cake on the house. It made us feel truly valued, and we couldn’t wait to return this year. Unfortunately, our recent visit was the complete opposite. From the start, the service felt inattentive and disorganised. Staff seemed unsure about the menu and unable to provide any helpful suggestions. The manager, who eventually came over, was polite and seemed to care, but our main server remained disengaged and unfriendly. We even had to ask to place our order, despite clearly being ready, the servers were preoccupied relaying tables next to us and avoiding eye contact. At one point, they disappeared to stand in the hallway, out of sight entirely. It wasn’t until my girlfriend leaned over and waved to get their attention that we were finally able to order. The food itself was fine but didn’t justify the experience. The duck portion was noticeably small and left me feeling hungry, especially given the restaurant’s pricing and reputation. There was no check-in once our food arrived, and after our plates were cleared, we waited around 15 minutes before anyone offered a dessert menu. We had planned to stay for another drink, but as soon as we declined dessert, the bill was placed on our table without a word — abrupt and frankly rude. We mentioned our disappointment to the host on the way out and were met with a blunt apology. Steps of service clearly need to be re-taught to the team, as the experience fell far below the standard Silures once set. Such a shame, especially as it’s within walking distance and used to feel like a special local treat. I’ve always recommended this restaurant for special occasions, but after this visit, I’ll be suggesting elsewhere from now on.

Team away day and ended up here. Food was good and plentiful. I had the chilli loved fries and was more than enough on the plate. Menu had, pizza, gyros, burgers and different loaded fries. Live music on and we were told before we ordered incase we all wanted somewhere quiet. Great food, great different Ales and if you're after a night out with Live music, would highly recommend.

What a great place! The food was really good and I found it hard to choose from such an amazing selection of beer. The bar staff, Louise, helped me choose and was a great recommendation. She was funny and made the visit more than worth it. Really enjoyed my visit and I will definitely go again.

Whenever I am in town and want to meet up with someone for a drink, I always recommend Head of Steam. Classic pub feel but still feels like a modern establishment. Staff have always been very friendly and quick to serve. They have a great selection of beer and cider which allows me to try something different every time. These two things keep me coming back time and time again, highly recommend dropping by for a drink.

The gentlemen behind the bar were as welcoming as warm urine to a hydrated mouth. Zero communication at all and I mean zero… in fact I retract the gentlemen comment. Guinness was nice 👍🏼

The staff are rude and the food is awful!!! There was a mistake with my order and then when i expressed this issue to the waiter he told me to talk to the manager. When i went up to talk to the manager they ignored me, were rude and unhelpful. The waiter was vaping over customers and inconsiderate. The food was cold and unappetising would NOT recommend such a shockingly bad experience. I came to the pub on Tuesday 1st at around 6-7pm.

Loved how quirky the place is. Food was delish, only criticism is crayfish was a bit small however, the taste was lovely! Potato’s were a little hard but it did not ruin anything. Prawns were really good! We also had greens, cajun fries and mac n cheese and they did not disappoint and complimented the food. Great choice of drinks too! Cannot wait to try Gravy fondue (at Winter) next😁
Elis A — Google review
The place is small but personable. There are 3 booths which can probably fit 3 on each side (6 in total) but better suited to 4 people per table, otherwise there's not much elbow room. There is also a counter top by the window which can seat 3-4 people and there are also seats outside (which you can see on their website, although with the busy traffic, fumes and rubbish in the area I'm not sure I'd want to eat outside. They supply you with plastic bibs (which is just as well as it can get pretty messy) but I expected that, so not a problem. Given that I didn't know what else to expect, I was open minded and hungry - I love sea food and shellfish of all types so was really looking forward to it. There were plenty of sides and extras to choose from the menu and the corn bread sounded just the thing, being described as "Fluffy cornbread baked to perfection. Perfect for soaking up those craw’ juices". When the food came, there was a lovely mixture of craw fish, king prawns, potatoes and spicy sausage almost like a stew. Unfortunately though, there was nothing to actually mop up, as they turn the entire bowl out onto the table, so everything got soaked up by the paper as you can see in the picture. It would have been nice if it was on a serving platter or tray or similar so you still had something to mop up. While we were given a nice chunk of corn bread each, it ended up being rather dry with nothing to dip it in. There is only 1 toilet, so expect a queue if it is busy. When I came to settle the bill, I was quite surprised to be charged £52 when I'd already paid a £30 deposit, so a main meal for 2 to share with 2 sides (1 x collard greens (which was in a small ramekin dish for us to share at £6) and the other being the bread) no desert and 1 drink each came to £82. All in all, not too bad and would probably go again depending on what's on the menu as it changes quite a lot.

So I went to Neighbourhood Kitchen to try their Lobster menu, thoroughly enjoyed it. The place is slightly on the small side, but it makes it more manageable for the team working there. I would recommend you book way in advance if you want to visit, especially on the weekend as it will get booked up. We went at 13:30 -15:00 on a Saturday, and by the time we left the other guests were waiting for the table. For the two of us we paid £75. That included 2 x Lobster, 1 x Crab Donuts, 1 x Corn Riblets with a side of garlic and herb butter, and 2 x cocktails. Was it value for money??? I leave that for you to decide.
THE R — Google review
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Payed £54 for the crawfish boil, however the amount of eatable seafood you get is simply a scam. Seafood may of totalled about 4 mouthfuls which came with hotdog quality sausage and potatoes. Service was okay as you’d expect however the atmosphere was degraded by the flies that drowned in my expensive drink. Overall, it was a scam.
Jacob E — Google review
Overall : really good experience!! We got : - IPA on tap (cheap and good) - watermelon and lime mocktail (refreshing and £7!) - 2 £10 lobsters (slay✨ - all the little tools were there to eat the lobster which was really handy and the lobster was yummy and fresh🤩) - crab doughnuts (DO NOT GET THIS - they were small cold and hard doughnuts cut in half with some crab filling for like £10 - if they had put the filling on some crackers or warmed up the doughnuts at least, and put the price down, would’ve been better but as it is, so not worth it, never ordering again) - truffle fries (good portions, hot and fresh, could do with some more salt as the truffle was a bit overpowering but would order again) - soft shell crab burger (SLAPPED- slaw was yummy and added a bit of meat to the meal - would recommend) Atmosphere was cute, a bit small though - we asked to move to a table instead of the stools by the window - staff were lovely and friendly :) - will say the service was a littleee slow and we waited for about 15 minutes before we were served and then about 45 minutes for food - we only had about half an hour to actually eat lol before the time they said they needed the table back by. Would go again! But since we ordered like £30 of sides anyway, next time we would pay an extra £10 for another lobster🫡
Mina S — Google review
Food was amazing and great value for money lovely cozy atmosphere and service was friendly. Great choice of margaritas 🌟
Chloe H — Google review
Came here for the crawfish boil a few months ago. Unfortunately for the price not only were the portions very small (there were two of us) but also did not taste great - we had barely any actual crawfish which was a big let down, it was mainly shell. We added some chicken wings for £9 and I think we had 4 in total which seemed very pricey. Service was lovely - the staff were very welcoming. Overall left feeling we’d paid a lot for very little.

Guests can expect warm hospitality and unique cocktail creations like the delightful "Peaches" that are sure to impress even the most discerning palates.
I only knew about the existence of Nightshade due to a TikTok video, and my husband and I happened to eat at Parallel by Pasture for his birthday, so we decided to ask the obliging waitress if she could get us into Nightshade. The selection of drinks available was excellent and the pricing structure is in keeping with the other cocktail bars and upmarket restaurants in the area. The staff are very pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable. The decor is very stylish and art deco, and the atmosphere is calm and sophisticated. We can happily recommend.

If you're looking for a place that nails both exclusivity and an amazing vibe, Nightshade is it. Pasture recommended this spot after an excellent meal, and wow, did it live up to the hype! From the moment we walked in, we were treated like VIPs – no long lines or waiting around. The staff were on point, super attentive without being overbearing, and made sure our night was top-tier. The ambiance? Perfect. Dim lighting, killer decor, and a cosy atmosphere. But what really stood out was how they made us feel like we had our own little slice of the place. We had our own private area, and it felt like we were in on a secret that not everyone gets to experience. Drinks were expertly crafted, and they even customised a few based on what we liked. If you're after a night out that feels special and a bit exclusive, Nightshade should be at the top of your list. Can't recommend it enough!

It made our night complete. The cocktails are perfectly balanced and delivered with care and attention. It's clear that every element of this venue has been considered. Hands down the highlight of our evening and we cant wait to come back.

I’ve been a few times the last few years and always had a great time. This time we did pizza and Prosecco. When we first arrived we noticed we were 2 bottles short but staff quickly rectified this and were more than helpful. Busy and lovely, always a good day/night here.

Myself and my partner went in and asked to do a walk in for some darts and some food. We were greeted with such enthusiasm in such a gorgeous venue! Everyone who we interacted with, especially Randall, were an absolute pleasure to have met and dealt with! We played some darts and ordered some drinks delicious pizzas! I have an allergy for diary and my partner a gluten allergy and the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with what we could and couldn’t have. There were also lots of options for gluten free beers and drinks! Such an amazing experience to remember and I can’t wait to visit again! Thank you so much to the team! The venue has such gorgeous decor too, I’d recommend this spot to anyone wanting an enjoyable evening in Cardiff.

I’ve visited flight club twice, once with a group of friends and once for a works Christmas night out. Thoroughly enjoyed both times! After going the first time I knew it would be a great option for the Christmas do, and it was such a good laugh, we played over two boards, next to each other meaning you can still socialise with everyone. You can order drinks to the area but the bar was close by too. After we finished our session we went out to the rooftop area which was great, plenty of space and a great atmosphere. Although you’re outside there are plenty of heat lamps to keep you warm no matter the temperature.

The place to be in Cardiff. First floor has darts and lounging areas. Second floor is more to eat, and of course last floor has the rooftop. The food is good, the service is very polite, and the overall vibe was great. I'll be back and you should try it out.
Charles D — Google review
Visited back in May but forgot to leave an insight into our experience. Probably one of the worst starts to a evening in town. With a table and darts booked, we arrived a little ahead of time and the table was ready, drinks ordered, some food ordered we thought we were in for a decent night. Nearly an hour later and we ask about our food and some of it comes, a further 30 mins we ask about the rest. 3 different staff members say "they'll go check on it" each time 10/15 minutes goes past and we have no update. Nearly 2 hours passes and we ask to speak to a manger, who said "oh there's system issues and none of it came through" nearly 2 hours after ordering to get told that it was an issue on their side. A very brief apology and no real effort to resolve or admit it was a mistake out of our control. We finally get our food but at that point we had wasted 30 mins speaking to multiple staff and trying to get some food to go on and enjoy our night. Such a shame as the top floor beer garden was lovely with a decent vibe. If they could get food done to even just and acceptable standard and some empathetic and accountable staff, this would be worth the visit. With this in mind, I would avoid at all costs unfortunately.

We had a really great time. Darts was way more fun than we expected. Thinking 30mins was enough, we were still going strong 90mins later 😅. Big thanks to kind staff on the rooftop bar and the darts concierge with the cool nails 🏆

Lab 22 is a trendy cocktail bar and speakeasy known for its eclectic style and molecular food and drink menu. It's a popular spot for post-work or pre-club cocktails, offering a unique experience with its two floors and roof terrace. The Main Stage Cabaret Bar hosts live music, cabaret, and drag acts, while The Kings is a modern bar attracting a young gay/lesbian/mixed crowd.
Came down for a work trip and was served by Sam, he took the time to educate and inspire our whole group. The service, vibe, and atmosphere were absolutely phenomenal. I cannot recommend a better venue, group of bartenders and bar backs. The level of detail and attention to the craft is outstanding and I will definitely make another trip in the future. Absolutely amazing and makes me jealous that as a bartender that I don’t work there. An inspiration to any aspiring bartender. Give Sam and the team a raise!!

We were recommended Lab22 by a waiter in another restaurant, and it was absolutely excellent. Lovely cocktail bar, tucked away with a “speakeasy” vibe. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, and superb cocktails - an excellent way to spend an evening.

The best cocktails! I had the “Grapes of Taft” tequila drinks with homemade grape soda and local grown wine. I then had a cocktail made with locally sourced rose hips! Cannot recommend this place enough - what a treat!

One of the best bars I’ve ever been to anywhere. Stunningly well thought out cocktails, fab service, and an incredible menu. I’d have happily have completed the menu if I hadn’t needed to dash off after a few rounds, but I would travel to Cardiff to specifically go to this bar. Go here; you won’t regret it.

Popped in briefly to check what the place was like and loved the vibes despite it being a very busy Saturday night with zero chance for seating. I had a Samba myself and it was very nice to drink. I will definitely be coming here again next time im spending time in Cardiff.

This is literally the best cocktail bar in Cardiff by far! We tried 4 different cocktails and enjoyed them all. Voyager was the best one in my view! I like it upstairs, it feels bit private and far from the crowd on the street. Staff are absolutely nice and helpful. We will definitely visit again!

We had a work social event and hired the skittle alley. We enjoyed having a private space and made use of the skittle alley, the dart board and the piano! Service at the bar was incredibly friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. We’d definitely consider coming back again for another event!
Jenny H — Google review
The pub was busy and that’s fine but the food took a while, when the starter came (nacho’s) it looked like a kids portion. The waiter that brought it over saw the look on my face and asked if it was ok, I politely asked where’s the rest of it? Not long after a female bar staff came over and said us everything ok and I said the same thing again, she said bare with my I’ll ask the manager if we can add more. She came back and explained the manager refused and said we’ll refund. I found this odd, what’s better for the business a few extra nachos n cheese or refund the cost of the starter? Strange decision, anyway I thanked her for the refund. I was dreading the main at this point to be honest. The kids chicken nuggets came out, god knows what chicken nuggets were used but they looked like a very very cheap quality. The beans looked white and my 8 yr old didn’t looo impressed, she eat the food though as she was so hungry. Now my main, I did want half and half but was told it was £2.00 extra, strange to charge extra for the same amount of food but split it between chips and rice? Ok, they don’t do this at most curry houses but ok. I declined. So my curry, I initially thought there was a lot of curry to discover it was rice all underneath so wasn’t as much as it looked, ok not the end of the world but I’m starving at this point. The curry, well it was tasteless, didn’t seem like there was any kind of seasoning it even a grain garam/ masala/spices any kind of Indian seasoning it was bland besides the taste of tomato. A manager (I think) came over and asked me how it was, I explained it was pretty tasteless and rather underwhelming. She was apooogetic in all fairness and offered to get me an alternative. I declined as it was nearing 5pm and I have to get my daughter back to my ex partner at 6, so wouldn’t have the time to wait again. Quite disappointing and ruined our little dinner date, my daughter who’s only 8 was seemingly sad that dad didn’t have food with her. Anyhow, I just said I just wanna send the food back to be honest the manager said that’s ok and took it. 10 minutes went by, nobody came back about a refund etc, now it’s edging towards 5.20 and I’ve gotta get my daughter home by 6pm. The manager finally came over with a refund receipt and 2 wafer biscuits, a nice little touch. But overall, the food was awful and the service was as slow, staff were polite enough but overall for my first eating experience there it was pretty poor and obviously my daughter being a little upset and disappointed just amplified the situation. I very much doubt I’d ever return for food ever again, I’d be inclined to warn family and friends about it but wouldn’t particularly want to go out of my way to do so.

Great pub! We have been a few times recently for a pint, and although it only does Brains SA and Brains Bitter, they have always been in great condition. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere. We've watched a few of the football games here and there are several TVs in the main bar, with seats with a good view. We shared the nachos sharer plate which was very nice and a good size for the price. Only comment is myself wanting more Real Ale, but other than that it is a great pub

NQ64 Cardiff is a unique bar located in the city center, offering a retro arcade gaming experience paired with themed cocktails. The ambiance is vibrant with neon signs and glow-in-the-dark paint, reminiscent of the 80s and 90s era. Visitors can enjoy popular arcade games like Street Fighter and Guitar Hero while sipping on creatively crafted game-themed cocktails. The bar also offers non-alcoholic options for those who prefer them.
That was a real walk down nostalgia lane!! Fun themed cocktails, good music playing, fun retro games!! I liked the spray paint themed walls and UV lights. Overall, really enjoyed the night there!! Brandon was an absolute gem, so shout out to him (apologies if I spelt his name wrong)!!!. He made the night awesome and was a great barman! Always had a smile and was easy to talk to. I came here with friends at the weekend and had another brill time. We are regulars here and just love the vibe, cocktails (shoutout out to Peach on the Beach and Jurassic Marg), retro games and lovely staff. Richard B — Google review
Such a unique venue and so much to do! The different cocktails and drinks themed around video games and their characters is so fun. So much to do inside too, although on a very busy weekend, you might find yourself standing around until groups stop hogging the machines. It’s a shame there isn’t a larger venue available as I think a larger venue would suit NQ64 so well! Found myself struggling to hear people at times too, but it’s a club/bar after all, but when you’re in there for a while, it does get a bit overwhelming and the neon paint and art is so cool, but again, can make your eyes go a bit weird after a while! I’ve been multiple times now, and will happily come again! But maybe not on a busy weekend! Drinks can be pricey but the cocktails are worth it. You need to purchase tokens that can then be used in the machines, and I found a lot of people were offering their left over tokens when they had enough, so you’d end up with loads of “free” tokens if you were in there long enough!
Ashley — Google review
Absolutely love this place! Was lucky enough to be invited down to an advanced opening back in Novemeber 2021 to get a general feel for the place and provide feedback. It's a great atmosphere and quite a unique place as I believe it's the only arcade bar in Cardiff. Staff are always very welcoming and friendly! Whenever I've needed any assistance they're always happy to help. Drinks are reasonably priced for a city center and they have loads of amazing game themed cocktails on offer as well as your standard beer wines and spirits. The arcade games are reasonably priced and there's a good variety to keep you busy for hours!

We had the best time at the cocktail masterclass I organised for a hen do with 23 girls! The whole experience was so much fun—super interactive, with lots of laughs and delicious cocktails (plus really great mocktail alternatives too!). Bouncers wouldn’t let us in because apparently the male is too drunk. However every door member of staff from other bars have allowed us in no questions asked. We were only trying to access somewhere that is classed as a safe space. It’s absolutely ridiculous that your door staff turn away people that are looking for a safe space to enjoy their night. Try having door staff that are acutually gay and that actually want to let people in to enjoy their nights. Good luck with enjoying our night out in Mary’s, If your face fits, maybe you’ll have an enjoyable night. Very disappointing.

Come to Cardiff for the weekend with my husband, and this looked a great venue. Apparently though you have to dress a certain way, and they don’t let you be yourself. If you’re wearing trackies they will refuse you entry. Avoid, and a bad first experience. Won’t be returning if back this way again

WHERE DO I START!!! First I want to say a massive thank you to Gordan and the team at Mary's for an amazing birthday night, not only was I spoilt with having a balloon and champagne on our table, but also I recieved a birthday card off the staff to. Such a kind and lovely thought. I'm incredibly greatful and I can't thank you enough. After a brilliant afternoon playing bingo, we also had the company of our favourite QUEEN Jolene and the best DJ who may I had plays the best music!! Also a massive thank you to the door staff who not only made sure our night was free of trouble but for also making sure myself, my partner and friends was okay. Highly recommend and once again thank you. ❤️

Booked a table on Sunday evening as a surprise for my friend, we travelled up from Torquay in Devon to experience the Auntie's Bingo and the show afterwards. Arrived on time only to be refused entry as there was an annual charity thing on, which hadn't been put on the website when I booked. Was told to either wait outside in the rain or come back at 8pm, after the bingo had finished. The bouncer was very dismissive and unwilling to even let us in the door, let alone to the table I had reserved. Very frustrating and disappointing, as we were excited to go and travelled 200 miles to get there. What a waste of time.
