Italian restaurant
Il Cavatappi is a charming trattoria located in an alley near the main square of Varenna, Lombardy. The restaurant offers a variety of European, Italian, and Mediterranean dishes including pasta, seafood, and vegetarian options. With its modest ambiance and creatively plated regional dishes, Il Cavatappi provides an authentic taste of Italian cuisine. Visitors can also enjoy outdoor seating along the water while savoring their meals.
We sat in the covered alleyway just outside the restaurant, enjoying a delicious dinner accompanied by the warm breeze from the lake. The food was both flavourful and beautifully presented, and the service was attentive and genuinely pleasant. I had made the reservation the day before by visiting the restaurant in person and leaving an €80 cash deposit — a practice that seems fairly common in Varenna. For a restaurant of this quality, I wouldn’t hesitate to put cash down again.

Food was good and tasty, quick to come out as well. Didn’t wait long for a table but there were 2 hairs in my food, the waitress immediately ordered another one for me. Had to order a drink though, wouldn’t let me just order food. Atmosphere 3 due to no view. Nice menu, has wifi and toilet.

Incredible food! Lunch / dinner slots fill up fast! Food here was very good. The octopus starter was to die for. One of my favorite starters I’ve ever had. Best octopus dish. It was cooked perfect and tasted amazing. Went well with the chickpea purée underneath. So delicious. The gnocchi was delicious as well. Cooked perfect. The lamb shank was huge and great. Service was good as well. The guy was very nice and friendly! Super great server to have

My wife and I went to Il Cavatappi on our very first night in Italy as part of our honeymoon, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable meals we’ve ever had. We did all four courses and stayed for about two and a half hours—it was perfect. The servers were so kind, fun, and welcoming, which made the evening even more special. We arrived early without a reservation and were lucky to get a table outside, but I highly recommend making a reservation. Don’t be fooled by the line at the neighboring spot—this is where you want to eat. The food was outstanding: the creamiest, freshest burrata, incredible pasta, and perfectly cooked lamb. We shared a bottle of delicious wine from Cascina Chicco, and everything paired beautifully. The atmosphere outside in the center of Varenna was magical—great for people-watching and just soaking in the town. Il Cavatappi is truly a gem, and we can’t wait to return on our next trip to Varenna. Absolutely unforgettable.

Amazing food and very good service. The people are extremely nice and the quality of the food and wine was excellent. People complaining about not getting a table should come early and not put a one star for no reason....

The food was absolutely fabulous! The service was stellar and if you come here you won’t be disappointed! We were very happy with our choice! Il miglior ristorante sul Lago di Como!!!!
Kent B — Google review
My wife and I ate here when we stayed in Varenna this past May. We had the meat and cheese board followed by the pasta with Duck Ragu accomplices by a lovely Barolo. We were in Italy for 23 days and this one of our highlights. The food was fresh and flavourful and the location with the tables set right along the narrow street is magical. I will be chasing that Duck Ragu flavour for a while.
Donald H — Google review
Me and my wife had our honeymoon meal in Il Cavatappi. We were welcomed without a reservation and the service from the moment you enter is impeccable. We decided to have the Caprese salad to start which was wonderful. The stand out of the evening however was the highly recommended lamb shank with berries. It falls off the bone and is the best meal I've had since being in Italy. My wife had the lemon ravioli which was bursting with lemon flavour and obviously skillfully made. I felt like every place I'd been to in Varenna and Belaggio up until that point was a little tourist trap, however Il Cavatappi felt different. It felt as if we were somewhere special, somewhere we'd been looking for. It really was worth the hype.

Italian restaurant
Al Prato Restaurant is a delightful dining spot nestled in the picturesque village of Varenna on Lake Como. The restaurant boasts a menu featuring authentic Italian dishes crafted from locally sourced, fresh ingredients and lake fish. Its inviting ambiance includes outdoor seating for enjoying meals during pleasant weather. Guests can savor delectable offerings such as pumpkin ravioli, sea bass, and rack of lamb, all expertly prepared.
This restaurant doesn’t accept reservations online or by phone. So upon arriving in the enchanting town of Varenna, I immediately left a €100 cash deposit in person to secure a dinner reservation for three nights later. When the evening finally arrived, we were completely blown away by the presentation and flavor of every dish. Service was friendly and attentive. The entire experience exceeded my already high expectations and was easily one of the finest Italian dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Lei L — Google review
Got a table towards the end of lunch without a reservation and it was one of the best (if not best) meals of the trip. The pasta was amazing, with the flavors of the cheese perfectly shining through. Eggplant Parmesan was incredible; everything about it felt elevated. Affogato was a delicious end to the meal. While we didn't need to put down a 100 Euro deposit for a reservation, I wouldn't hesitate to do it. This place is definitely worth it!
Cromulent R — Google review
I was super nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get a table as they don’t accept reservations online or by phone. For dinner, you can secure a reservation for a €100+ cash deposit. I arrived at exactly noon for lunch and despite their signage stating that they were full and stanchions blocking entry, I called over the host and asked for a table for two. He sat us immediately. Despite the restaurant being rather empty, the host did cherry pick who he allowed to dine there. I couldn’t really tell what the requirements were but he seemed to choose tourists that weren’t dressed like tourists, those that greeted him, and those with small parties. If a crowd formed, he would deny everyone lined up. Despite the reviews about the host and staff, they treated us incredibly well, stopping by multiple times to check in and ensure we were enjoying our meals. The food was also good! I got the lamp chops which i’d recommend. If you can’t get in for dinner, try lunch! I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re visiting Varenna.
KJ J — Google review
Sublime and spectacular. We shared the piping-hot melted tomme cheese and grilled vegetable starter. My husband devoured his gorgeous rib-eye steak while I had the sea bass. For dessert? A shared cheesecake topped with crumbled crisp meringue and perfect raspberries. We feel so well fed and cared for.

This restaurant is one of, if not the best restaurants in Varenna. The food was prepared perfectly and presentation was breathtaking. Service excellent. And very reasonably priced
Paul V — Google review
The lamb chops were sooo good!! The bread they served was also fresh and delicious — I especially loved the green one, maybe it had pistachio in it. I’ll definitely visit this restaurant again if I come back to Varenna!
X. X — Google review
Beautiful patio, impeccable service, amazing food! I think you'll almost certainly need a reservation made in person a day or more before. We stopped by on Wednesday to reserve a table for Thursday, and had no trouble. But during dinner we watched everyone without a reservation get turned away! Very worth the effort.
Jared G — Google review
One of the best meals we had in Italy, everything we ordered was a standout dish. Highly recommend the lake fish mains or the tasting platter which came with fish pâté, grilled fish and their smoked local speciality. We also enjoyed the lamb chops and porcini beef lasagna, which were plated wonderfully and packed full of flavour — even the sautéed veggies, potato gratin and small fruits on the side were top-notch! The pavlova and warmed peach cake with ice cream were the perfect sweet notes to end our meal. Really appreciate the service here too. The staff were so kind to seat us even though we arrived 30min before their closing time for lunch, and never rushed us through the meal even past their lunch opening hours. They remained friendly and attentive throughout! Thank you for a great meal here.

La Vista is a hotel that offers a relaxing retreat with various types of rooms and apartments. It's an ideal place to unwind and savor life at a leisurely pace. The hotel provides gourmet dining experiences with diverse cuisine options, including vegan and vegetarian dishes. The wine cellar is well-stocked with a focus on regional wines, organic options, and craft beers. The service is known for being quick and friendly, making it a great choice for those seeking a pleasant dining experience.
Had a great experience! Good food in an unbeatable atmosphere. I would improve the service though which was lacking for us. It was hard to get our server’s attention. The Ragu was good and so was the ravioli. The lamb chops were super tender and good. Ask of the good was great. You do pay extra for the view. They could get a perfect score with better service although it is still a great restaurant
Pat Z — Google review
If you are staying multiple nights in Varena, then La Vista should be on your list as the view at sunset is unparalleled! Like most nice restaurants in Italy, make sure you have a reservation for dinner no matter what day of the week it is. The service here was slow and they seemed to continually assist other tables over our own. We sat with not even wine or bread for almost 30 minutes. The food was hit or miss for us. The risotto was by far the most tasty dish and all of us enjoyed the main courses; however, the desserts all fell short. The tiramisu was dry in the middle and the crème brûlée had split. All in all, we would still go back for the breathtaking view of Lake Como!
Sarah K — Google review
La Vista delivered an absolutely stunning experience—both on the plate and beyond it. The food was exquisite, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. But what truly elevated the evening were the breathtaking lake views that framed every bite. The ambiance was romantic and serene, perfect for a special night out. Service was attentive without being intrusive, making us feel welcomed and relaxed. If you're in Varenna, this is a must-visit spot for a memorable meal with an amazing view.
Joe H — Google review
We showed up at the perfect time as someone was just leaving and so we were seated within a few minutes for dinner without a reservation. We were seated right by the window and enjoyed a beautiful view for a few minutes while the sun set. I got the risotto special which was perfectly cooked and incredible flavor. My husband got the mushroom ravioli which he really liked. I also got the dessert special of the day which was caramelized peaches with a cream and crumble and it was amazing!! My husband got the chocolate mousse which he said was so chocolatey and paired perfectly with the raspberry sauce they give you.
Fiona H — Google review
After a challenging journey to Italy, dinner at La Vista Ristorante was exactly what we needed — a perfect evening that made all the travel troubles worthwhile. The restaurant’s renowned sunset views over the mountains live up to their reputation. The lighting creates a magical atmosphere, and the peaceful lakeside setting is truly breathtaking. Beyond the spectacular views, the food is outstanding. Standout dishes included the cod ravioli with yogurt wasabi, the salmon confit, and the chocolate mousse — each expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The service was exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal, and they graciously accommodated our request to modify our reservation when we were delayed getting into town. I highly recommend La Vista Ristorante for anyone visiting Lake Como. It’s an essential dining experience that perfectly complements a weekend on the lake.
Neil T — Google review
The best of dining in Varena! Delicious menu, local focused, great service and the most outstanding view (especially at sunset!) lovely owner and hard working staff! Reservations a must!

The only restaurant I can recommend in mid-range-price in Italy. After many overpriced or just mediocre-taste places we finally left satisfied.

Bar Il Molo is a lively lakefront cafe in Varenna, offering an elegant terrace with beautiful views of the lake and town. It provides a variety of casual Italian favorites such as pizza, pasta, panini, salads, and gelato at reasonable prices. The bar is open from morning to late at night and is known for its stunning sunset views over the water.
Bar Il Molo is an absolute gem in Varenna! If you're planning to dine here, make sure to arrive early—the best seats fill up fast, and for good reason. The view overlooking Lake Como is truly breathtaking—one of the most scenic spots we've ever had a meal. We had two perfectly made cappuccinos, pancakes with fresh fruit, and scrambled eggs with bacon. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is hard to beat. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, brunch, or just a coffee with a view, this place is a must-visit when in Varenna.

Visited this very busy restaurant three times while in the area. For breakfast and two dinners. The staff is busy but quick. The food comes out hot and quickly. Not the greatest meal, but the view makes up for it for any disappointments. It’s worth the visit.
Krissy S — Google review
Service was quick and the waiters very attentive. This spot seems to get mixed reviews but we had a wonderful time. Pizza was enjoyable but nothing special. However the real highlight is that this is THE BEST spot in Varrena for a sunset drink, if you get lucky enough to have one of the frontline tables!
Louis P — Google review
Don't be fooled by the tiktok videos. The location is nice but looks better on video. There's not much in Varenna and this restaurant has a good location which gives it an advantage. The food and service is average. I ordered the salmon breakfast and it is something that I could make at home easily. For the views and the price, I think it is reasonable.
Alexi L — Google review
Good restaurant near the lake. Good food. Fresh orange juice was a good choice (freshly squeezed). They served the food and drinks really fast. The staffs were friendly, and helpful, but some of them looked tired. Toilet for customers is available.
Marta D — Google review
The lavender cocktail didn’t taste like lavender at all. The waiter was the rudest I’ve ever encountered — literally scolding customers and making us feel tense just to ask for something, as if we should apologize for ordering. His attitude was truly unacceptable. The pinsa was quite ordinary. However, the place has an absolutely stunning view. I’d say come here just for the scenery, not for the food or the service.
Elif G — Google review
Absolute worst food I’ve ever had point blank period. Which is crazy to say for being in Italy. The food including the salad was all either canned food and sauce or they were playing a practical joke. I have gotten better food from a Wawa.
David M — Google review
The drinks were decent, coffee was nice. They came along with chips and pistachio. Most important that everything, the terrace and view was fantastic. Definitely recommend. By the way, be aware of the pigeons and sparrows, if you feed them once and jump into your dish in groups 😄

Visitors can easily reach Caffe Varenna by taking the car ferry from Menaggio to Varenna. Additionally, the cafe is praised for its friendly staff and great location.
This place is right below our Airbnb. We’ve been here 3 days and have eaten here 3 times - twice for breakfast and once for dinner. Service has been great! Food has been better than expected. Get dessert at dinner and get a made fresh croissant for breakfast! Eggs, yogurt, and more available! Location is amazing!
Sue F — Google review
The only good thing about this place is the view of the lake. The food is pretty awful so does the drinks. I had the bolognese pasta the portion is tiny and the noodle is undercooked and there’s barely meat in the sauce. My partner had lasagna , it looks nothing like a lasagna and didn’t taste good either. There’s a very big menu of cocktails. I had the basil smash, but it’s overly sweet and artificial flavor and color added looks lime green. The outdoor space with view is limited and very tight. Service is pretty bad, can hardly get anyone’s attention.
Alex Z — Google review
Stopped by Varenna Café Bistrot for a quick break. The pistachio and berry tart and coffee were just okay—nothing exceptional, but still enjoyable. What really stood out were the serene views, which made for a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, which took away from the overall experience slightly, but the setting definitely made up for it. A nice spot to unwind by the water, just be prepared for a bit of a wait.
Ace — Google review
The ambience is unbeatable! The view of the Lake Como with the sun setting is mesmerizing. The Carbonara and tortellini was good but not amazing. The cocktails complimented the food good well. The service was courteous too..
Rahul R — Google review
The location by the lake is absolutely stunning. Our waiter was friendly, fun, and gave excellent recommendations for drinks—perfect if you want an authentic Italian experience. Both the main courses and desserts were delicious—simple, pure, and very satisfying. We especially enjoyed the saffron risotto and the Bolognese tortellini. Highly recommended!
Leander T — Google review
Magical place for breakfast/lunch/dinner. At the foot of the Lago de Como, it is inspiring place. The coffee shop is a mix of sophistication with the town italian style that makes it truly worth to visit. The waiters are attentive and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ele P — Google review
No frills- solid food at fair prices with one of the best views in town. We ordered bruschetta, which was two large thick slices of bread with very tasty toppings. They also offer regional wines that they will recommend if you ask. And if you like negronis, definitely order their green negroni! It was one of the best I’d had- still bitter and balanced but a little more herbaceous.
Matt S — Google review
Varenna Caffè Bistrot became our go-to breakfast spot—and for good reason! The menu offered a delicious variety of options, from fresh pastries to hearty plates, all beautifully prepared. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, with lovely views of the lake. Best of all, the service was consistently excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It was the kind of place that made mornings feel special. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a great breakfast in a beautiful lakeside setting.

Vecchia Varenna is a charming restaurant in Varenna, Italy, offering a delightful dining experience with creative northern Italian antipasti, pasta, and freshwater fish. The restaurant features a terrace that overlooks the stunning Lake Como, providing a picturesque backdrop for enjoying delicious meals. While Vecchia Varenna is known for its beautiful setting and delectable cuisine, it's important to note that the overall dining experience can vary based on individual preferences and expectations.
A fantastic location with the terrace overlooking the lake. No reservations possible. We were told we would need to wait an hour but it was only about 10mins. We chose this place for the location and because it has vegan options on the menu. The menu is limited but we like that. You can view it on the website and there and at the restaurant it is in Italian and English. The pasta dishes and cheese platter were both high quality delicious as were the desserts. Service was a little slow and it is quite pricey but we think justified. This is for a slow quality meal with a great view, not a rushed one.
Nicky R — Google review
Had dinner there during our stay in Varenna. Lovely food and cocktails, like all places along the lake, it's a "minimum effort and maximum gain" as the location does ALL the work for them. So, the menu is all the usual Italian carbs, and hasn't changed in forever. All places have the tourist stuff you'd expect. Staff are exhausted, and short, they hop from customer to customer, everyone is so hard-working and switched on. The food is nice and fresh, speed of service hit-and-miss, location is the best, and honestly, that's all you need.
S F — Google review
We had the lasagna and pizza, they were both decent. We came just before it became crowded, but we were still seated at an akward table. Service was fast
Iulia D — Google review
We were seated at a table that still had used dishes from the previous guests. The restaurant was clearly busy, so we didn’t complain—we were just glad to be seated. My husband moved the used plates and silverware to the side to make room. A waiter saw him and said, “Am I not moving fast enough for you?”—which surprised us, as we hadn’t said a word. Later, when my husband asked for a dry red wine, the same waiter snapped, “Am I supposed to just pick it for you?” The tone throughout felt unnecessarily hostile. I originally posted a review similar to this one, but it was removed - TWICE. After doing some research, I learned that in Italy, businesses can request the deletion of reviews they claim are unfair—even if they’re honest accounts. It appears this restaurant actively removes negative feedback. Still, many older reviews are visible, as they were unsuccessful in removing them - and the recurring theme is clear: disrespectful service, rude comments, and poor treatment of customers. I recommend reading through the 1-star reviews carefully—they paint a very consistent picture. Unfortunately, our experience matched theirs.

We sat for a coffe and sweet desert. The view was wonderful at the afternoon. The cheesecake was horrible, stale. The spoon for the capuccino was dirty and reused. The cappuccino had something like crumbs . I woudnt recomend the place except for the view
Babis C — Google review
This restaurant offers unrivaled views of the lake from the veranda. It is a perfect location to done and just outside the very small and busy lake front of Varenna, but close enough to feel the ambience. The food was good and it has a good varied menu. The service could have been better though. We were left several times wondering what, or if, we had ordered. We also had to ask several times for service. However, this did not detract too much from what turned out to be a lovely lunch.
David A — Google review
Lovely restaurant directly overlooking the lake. The prices are a bit steep but in line with the rest of the restaurants in Varenna. Highly recommend their goat cheese salad, I've had it twice already and will be coming back for more on my next trip to Varenna!

Ristorante il Portichetto a Vezio is a charming 3-star restaurant located in a historic neighborhood, just a short distance from Agueglio Pass and Lago de Lecco. Visitors rave about the authentic Italian cuisine, particularly praising the sublime pasta, divine bruschetta with pesto cream, and amazing pizzas. The welcoming atmosphere and excellent service make it an ideal stop for lunch or dinner after hiking to Vezio from Varenna.
This was a wonderful surprise of a tiny restaurant, which I ate at every night for a week. I enjoyed the outdoors of the restaurant more than the indoors. You can make a reservation which guarantees you a table (indoor or outdoor). I enjoyed practicing my Italian with the staff, and they were kind in helping me! Some locals eat here and some tourists. Most people dined here multiple times, and to my knowledge, this is the only restaurant in Vezio. For a comparison, I ate in many restaurants in Varenna and other towns in the Lake Como area. Although the food portions were larger in Varenna and other towns, the service was much better here. I was never treated disrespectfully as a "tourist", which happened consistently in other areas. If you are a tourist, be aware this is a tourist area, so prices comparatively higher in the Lake Como area as a standard. People that walk up to Vezio also enjoy grabbing a snack, a fruit smoothie, or an adult beverage, as this is the first place they come to after climbing the steep 20 min. climb from Varenna. I'd like to thank the owners, who took time to talk to me, other couples, and families, showing kindness by asking about our days and being friendly. That's the true spirit of being Italian, and I thank you.

Situated in a cute little alley. Friendly staff, food was ok but we were happy with the restaurant so close to our accommodation.
Uti V — Google review
It was such a lovely cozy experience to have dinner hear! The restaurant is set in a little alleyway and the staff welcomes you like you are family; so nice! The food was very good, we had the gnocchi & the spring beef serloin, along with the housewine! We absolutely loved it. ❤️
Chrissy O — Google review
Quite a disappointment! Although meals seem inexpensive for the area, portion sizes are small with very few toppings. The "daily meal" poke bowl was the worst: cost 14€ and had only a few crumbs of fish (almost couldn't tell there was any). Not authentic and very overpriced for the poor quality of the food. It's normal to have higher prices in popular areas, but this is definitely a tourist trap and certainly doesn't meet Italian standards.
Mia M — Google review
Amazing place, really nice staff (taught me some Italian!), and the food was insanely good!!
Filip N — Google review
Unacceptable service. My husband and I wanted to order lunch for our very hungry 2 year old daughter. We also orderd 1 drink per person and a meal for my husband. We were refused service because I didn't want to eat anything and they only accept patrons who order one meal per person. We were sitting in an otherwise empty restaurant, so we weren't blocking a table from other higher paying patrons. Very disappointing and not family friendly. Great experience. A great place, away from the usual tourist crowds. The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is warm and the restaurant has an authentic charm full of character. The people are fiendly and make you feel truly comfortable. Next year we're coming back.

Enoteca Cava Turacciolo is a charming cellar in Bellagio, offering a selection of regional wines alongside delectable cured meats and cheeses. The cozy ambiance with exposed stone walls adds to the allure of this must-visit spot. Whether you're seeking an authentic wine-tasting experience or a delightful evening indulging in local flavors, Enoteca Cava Turacciolo promises a memorable time for visitors in Bellagio.
We stopped by just for a glass of wine and ended up having a truly memorable experience. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful – surrounded by bottles of wine and set beneath a rock wall, it feels both cozy and unique. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the service was outstanding. To our surprise, they even treated us to a plate of local delicacies to enjoy with our wine. Such a lovely and generous gesture! Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

If you make one stop to drink and eat while in Bellagio, let this be it! Was recommended by our local host and the experience was so good we returned multiple times during our stay in Bellagio. Incredible selection of wines and very friendly and knowledgeable staff (special shoutout to Matteo!). They will ship wines all over the world as well for reasonable prices so a great opportunity to get your hands on some Italian wines from small producers that you will not find in the States.

A Hidden Gem in a Cave! Cava Curacciolo is an absolute must-visit. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable—special thanks to Norberto, who made our experience even more enjoyable with his warm hospitality and great wine recommendations. The wine menu is fantastic, with a well-curated selection to suit any palate. It’s the perfect spot for meats, cheeses, and a light lunch. The ambiance is truly unique, set inside a cool cave that gives it a cozy, intimate feel. Highly recommend for wine lovers or anyone looking for a memorable and relaxing stop.

A hole in the wall wine bar with some of the nicest, most hospitable staff we’ve had the pleasure of encountering. Due to the rain, seating was limited so we were invited to the bar while we waited where we were given tasters of different products, both meats and wines, while we waited for a table to be ready. All the staff were so kind to us, and were chatting along even though they were busy. The staff is all clearly passionate, and they put out super high quality products. I couldn’t recommend it more.

A Hidden Gem in Bellagio Bellagio in Lake Como is filled with seemingly nice restaurants—some are tourist traps, while others are the real deal. Enoteca is tucked away on one of the tiny, winding uphill streets of Bellagio, and it truly is a hidden gem. The food is simple yet very tasty, and the service was good as well. I highly recommend trying the cold fish dish, which is the local version of lox—absolutely delicious! If you’re looking for an authentic experience away from the crowds, Enoteca is definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful spot. Delicious wine and I was obsessed with the honey (almost bought some) that came with the cold cuts platter. Olives were fantastic, too.

We had a fabulous wine tasting and lunch here. They had incredible charcuterie boards that were gluten free and fresh (you could watch them shave the meats) The wine collection was INCREDIBLE. Off the beaten path and def recommend!

Nilus Bar is a charming lakeside restaurant located in a romantic setting, offering stunning views of the water and the surrounding nature. The restaurant serves Italian cuisine, with a focus on delicious pizzas. Despite some minor issues like dirty glasses, guests appreciate the efficient service and enjoyable dining experience. The location is popular among tourists due to its picturesque views of the lake, making it a pleasant spot for an evening meal or a relaxing aperitif.
One of the nicest staff and service in Varenna , after having the racist experience with couple of their neighboring restaurants, we felt very welcoming in this cute little restaurant on the lake. The staff was very friendly and food was so delicious. Everything we ordered was fresh and served hot , tells their efficient service , considering their kitchen is little up on the hill . They also have very clean washroom. We enjoyed our dinner with peace , they didn’t rush us , we took our time . Highly recommend them ….

We stopped by Nilu’s Bar in Verena on a rainy afternoon when most of our planned restaurants were either closed or fully booked — and it turned out to be a great choice! To start, we ordered drinks — I had a tropical fruit punch and my husband had martini. Both were excellent. For lunch, we tried the bruschetta with mozzarella and a prawn sandwich, which were delicious, well-prepared, and nicely presented. For dessert, we went for a Nutella dark chocolate crepe, and honestly, it was the star of the meal — absolutely delightful! The restaurant setup was cozy and inviting, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a pleasant surprise and a lovely experience despite the rainy weather. Highly recommended if you’re in the area!

The view is beautiful. The ribs and the paprika mash was a wonderful surprise, very tasty. The seafood pasta was a bit dry but a good meal. The service was very disappointing, slow and rude staff. No one bothers to see if the meal is ok and when we ask for something it is seems too much trouble for them.

Located on the water in a busy location, this restaurant offers views and a rich menu of typical as well as unique items. This spot is busy, and so are the waiters. Be prepared to order quickly and don't expect a lot of pleasantries:). I recommend the dried beef salad and the prosciutto pizza.

The food was MEH.. I ordered fish spaghetti and I was surprised it was only spaghetti with fish smell 😂 no real fish! Also the waiters are SUUUUUUPER RUDE SUPER SUPER RUDE more than waiters in France. It was the views for me honestly. Forgot to mention I had to order a pizza from another place coz I wasn’t full at all.

Located on Lake Como, Varenna, this location is a must-visit. The restaurant is very busy, so you have to expect to wait in long queues during busy seasons. The view was something else; breathtaking!!!! We ordered the pizza de aglio and caprese salad. The pizza was the best we have tried in Italy. The service was quite fast and the waiters are very nice.

With a great view of the lake and therefore very touristy but nevertheless pleasurable. We had a lovely aperitif here and decided to have a little bit to eat. The arugula salad was simple and delicious and I very much enjoyed my pillowy gnocchi with saffron and zucchini in cheese sauce. Since I’m no pizza expert, my husband ensured me his pizza (diavola?) was very tasty too. I couldn’t believe the staff though. They were so kind and professional, despite the incredible amount of walking they had to do from the kitchen (higher up in one of the streets) and the restaurant. Major kudos to them!

Start your day at III Binario Bar, a charming cafe located by the train station in Varenna. Indulge in freshly baked croissants and hot coffee for breakfast. The cozy atmosphere and Christmas decorations add to the experience. While they offer a nice selection of breakfast items, some visitors feel that the portion sizes could be more generous for the price. However, their thick and creamy hot chocolate is highly recommended.
III Binario Bar at the Veranna train station is a small yet very nice cafe. The cafe, croissants, and pastries are displayed beautifully and taste delicious. The service was very friendly and welcoming. This a beautiful location to enjoy a cafe with a family member or friend while eating something to your liking. There are numerous items and souvenirs to purchase during your visit. It is a refreshing place with a warm and enjoyable atmosphere either before you make your walk down to the ferries on Lago di Como, are after your visit while you await your train. A highly recommended bar.

Nice place to sit, very cute. The thing is it's soooo expensive for what it is. There are no prices of the items in the display so the lady at the counter sums it up in her head and tells you the number. I asked for a receipt and I just got a varied item with the final price. I felt scammed all the time I was there. The food was fine, the coffee also okay. Shame because the place is cute and convenient.
Tatiana M — Google review
The food was delicious, but what lowered my rating of the place was the customer service. The waitress was rude from the start. I don't pay to be mistreated or treated like a dog, as she treated us. I come from a family with values; I always treat people with respect, especially as someone who works in the same field in her home country. I can understand the stress of a place where it's a tourist attraction, but that's no justification for such treatment. The young woman should learn to manage her emotions or, if she doesn't like her job, change fields. In my case, I'm not one to cause conflict or complain, but it warrants it when the treatment isn't fair. Clearly, I won't return on future trips. Keep this in mind because if it's a place where customers always return to the city, it will end up being one to avoid.
Mailen I — Google review
AVOID THIS PLACE!! I’d have given it 0 stars if I could. This is the worst cafe we’ve been to in our 20 days in Italy. We ordered a breakfast set and everything was burned!! Their other dishes were either uncooked, burned or not well-seasoned. The service also wasn’t good. The waitress was grumpy and asked for us to pay even when we hadn’t finished. (And there were no people waiting.) The quality of the food here is really bad. And it’s way too expensive for the price. The atmosphere & location are OK, but everything apart from that is horrible. The restroom here was also broken (as of April 25th 2024.) You need to go to the station to use the restroom.
Sra C — Google review
Dear Owner I find it unreasonable for a tourist-area business near the train station to require a minimum 10-euro order and to accept card payments only, excluding cash. This is inconvenient for travelers who may need a small purchase like water. Please consider: - Accepting cash in addition to cards - Removing or lowering the minimum order, especially for essential items like water Thank you
Hunor N — Google review
If I could give zero stars, I would. First of all, if you dare to speak English, the price magically doubles. apparently, I’m paying for the privilege of being treated like garbage. I ordered an Americano, but what I got was basically a cup of lukewarm toilet water boiled to a mighty 50°C. Honestly, I’ve had hospital pills with more flavor. And no, they don’t give you a receipt. The waiter serves you with t complete disgust Terrible service, awful drinks, the prices for cookies muffins and other desserts are not even written. (Again, so they can charge based on foreigner)
Irina B — Google review
A complete SCAM! We were told that the hot chocolate was €5 for takeaway, but we were charged €6. When we pointed it out, the staff refused to refund us. After checking the menu, the takeaway hot chocolate is actually €4.50! Totally unacceptable to deceive customers like this. I strongly advise against going there — dishonest and disrespectful service.
Axelle D — Google review
This place had bad service and boring food. We were hungry after the rain ride and wanted a quick meal. But the waitress was so rude it felt lid she wanted to kick us out of there fast. We had a foccacio sandwich and hamburger and the flavor was sad and lacking, but also expensive so making it feel worse. There are nicer places to eat ahead, save yourself the heartbreak and don't go here.

La Dolce Vita in Bellagio is a charming restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It's known for its delightful atmosphere and skilled chefs who prepare pizzas using fresh ingredients. While some visitors found the service to be a bit slow, many praised the delicious food, including steak cooked to perfection, flavorful spaghetti with clams, and amazing desserts. The restaurant is family-owned and offers terrific service along with some of the best food in Bellagio.
Dolce Vita is an absolute gem in Bellagio—one of those rare finds that feels both authentic and welcoming from the moment you step in. Tucked away in a picture-perfect alley, the setting is cozy, charming, and full of character. It doesn’t have that overly touristy vibe you often find in popular towns—it feels like a place locals love too. The service was exceptional. Kiara and Fabian were warm, friendly, and attentive, making us feel right at home. There was another gentleman helping as well—just as wonderful, though we didn’t catch his name. And the food? Truly unforgettable. We had one of the best buffalo mozzarella pizzas we’ve ever tasted—light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The pesto linguine was equally incredible—fresh, aromatic, and bursting with flavor. Every bite felt like a celebration of Italian cuisine. From start to finish, the experience felt personal and truly special. If you’re in Bellagio and want real Italian hospitality and food that makes you smile, Dolce Vita is a must-visit.
Dr S — Google review
I wish we tried this place earlier during our trip so we could’ve eaten here more than once. We had tried a handful of other fine dining spots close by and nothing really stuck quite like La Dolce Vita. We ordered the seafood pizza which was pretty solid. But the star was the pasta with fresh pesto sauce. So memorable for me that I can still taste the photos I took. This is probably one of two places I would look forward to returning to if I’m back in Bellagio again for food!

The best pasta I’ve had in a very long time. Tagliatelle with mushrooms. A local white wine that paired perfectly with my pasta. And to finish, a delicious tiramisu! La Dolce Vita!!! The service is good but lacks some friendliness which is why I gave it a 4-star but a 5-star overall!
Patrice O — Google review
The beef tartare with burrata and truffle was absolutely delicious — rich, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The focaccia was warm and the wine was a perfect pairing. However, the food came out very quickly, and we felt a bit rushed. We had ordered a side of vegetables and the staff tried to clear the plate before we were done, which took away from the otherwise great experience. Still worth a visit for the food, just wish we had a bit more time to enjoy it!
Gabriella G — Google review
I had dinner at La Dolce Vita with three of my friends, and we all absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was charming and the service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Every dish we ordered was delicious, but the highlight of the evening was definitely the pistachio crème brûlée — creamy, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. If you’re visiting Bellagio, I highly recommend stopping by La Dolce Vita for an amazing meal and a lovely dining experience.
Salome H — Google review
We ended up at La Dolce Vita after finding out Dispensa 63 was closed, and this hidden spot next door was a decent fallback. It’s tough to find on Google and only open on Fridays, which we almost missed. The carbonara pizza was quite good, with bold flavors, though the crust was a bit too soft for my taste. The pasta was average, nothing special. The staff was okay, handling things efficiently but not particularly memorable. For those looking for a view, I’d suggest sitting outside by the stairs—it adds a nice touch of ambiance, but be prepared for a lot of foot traffic going up and down, which can be a bit distracting. Overall, La Dolce Vita is a solid option for a casual meal if you’re in the area on a Friday and Dispensa 63 isn’t open, but it’s not a standout experience
Stephen P — Google review
The pizza with sea food my partner had was good. However, I was very disappointed with the beef tartare that I had (28€). There was no seasoning at all, no flavour. The truffle on the top did not have any flavour either. Nevertheless, the place is great, we were sitting on the terrace with a great Italian atmosphere and the service was good.

La Cambusa is a charming lakeside café located at the foot of the ferry stop in Varenna. It offers a diverse menu featuring hot dishes, pizzas, bruschettas, sandwiches, and house specialties. The casual and friendly atmosphere makes it a delightful place to relax while waiting for the ferry. Visitors can enjoy delicious food and drinks including Aperol spritz and Italian beer.
We’ve tried many restaurants around Lake Como, and I have to say—this one is among the best, if not the best. The atmosphere was incredible, with the restaurant located right in front of Lago di Como and nothing obstructing the view of the lake. The service was excellent; we didn’t wait more than 15 minutes for our food and drinks. We ordered four different Aperol Spritz to really experience the variety, and I can confidently say they don’t hold back on flavor—each one was truly great. We also had the Italian classic, Pizza Margherita with pesto, which came on a thin crust and featured two types of cheese. It was bursting with flavor and the tomatoes tasted incredibly fresh. The pasta was cooked to perfection with an elite level of taste—absolutely delicious. While the pasta portion was a bit small, the reasonable pricing of each dish made it well worth it. Lastly, the potatoes were perfectly crunchy and full of flavor and the tiramisu was delicious. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Como, and I would definitely go again. The prices aren’t too high, so your expectations might start off modest—but the flavor and service go far beyond. Well done!

Perfect place for breakfast with a view near the lake. We arrived early in Varenna from Como and came across this hidden gem. The breakfast menu was great, with plenty of options for lunch and dinner too. The kids had the salted caramel and chocolate pancakes, which were a big hit, and the blueberry muffin was light and fluffy. I was really happy to find a halal panini on offer—it was delicious and not something you often see. The Italian coffee was strong and just what we needed. Service was with a smile—polite, friendly, and really accommodating. Highly recommend!

We came here after 3 days in Italy, and 10km walk. This place rejuvenated us completely. It makes so much sense this is highly rated. The staff are friendly and warm, the atmosphere is perfect and the food, well, it speaks for itself. The tiramisu is the best we’ve ever ate. One of the only things we (as a 6 person family) agree on. Cannot recommend enough, this place should be a chain.

We had a quick lunch before catching the next ferry. Due to close proximity to the dock, the place was crowded and we had to wait in a line for a table but not for too long. We ordered pizzas and sandwiches. Food was served quite quickly. All dishes were tasty and filling. The staff was efficient and friendly. I think this place is a good choice for quick affordable food

We went there for an early dinner (before 6 p.m.). It is not a huge place but seating is o.k. with views over the lake. We had a tomato-mozzarella salad and pizza which were both excellent. The young staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and made an effort to find a local wine to our taste. Very good food and wine, surprisingly low-priced, excellent service!

From the excellent food and astounding view we had, to one of the nicest servers we encountered during our stay in Italy. This restaurant really did not disappoint. And the price was quite reasonable compared to the other restaurants offering the same view on the lake with double the price. Would definitely recommend ! 6. I repeat. *SIX* vegan gelatos here. If you are vegan, this is one of the good choices for gelato. It's right by the walk, right by the water, and has good choices. If anything it's a victim of it's own success as they almost ran out of some of the vegan gelatos by early afternoon. Do come here or the store next door for gelato. Good choices all around.

This is where we used our breakfast vouchers from nearby Fio&Gio. After we got our complementary Cappuccino and pistachio cornetti-one of us chose muesli, we went back to our accommodation and sat on the roof terrace; although, Al Barilott is located in a small piazza where you sit at an outside table and enjoy views of a nearby church and clock tower, as well as Lake Como and the mountains surrounding the lake. Bar Milano is a charming spot nestled in the heart of Perledo, offering an authentic Italian experience that captures the essence of local life. Known for its lively atmosphere, especially during sporting events and karaoke nights, it can get quite noisy but adds to its unique character. The highlight here is undoubtedly the pizza—delicious and generously portioned—best enjoyed on their terrace with breathtaking views. While pizza dominates the menu, visitors may find themselves wishing for more variety.
We stopped for a beer and pizza at an odd time of day. The kitchen still served us. The views from the terrace and balcony tables are some of the best in the world. There is a small 8 car parking lot behind and below the restaurant. Weekend evenings this place is loud with lots of drinkers and karaoke. The drive up from Varenna is very narrow with lots of hairpin turns. Be careful.
Matt K — Google review
The pizza was excellent, with generous portions and paired with an amazing view. However, I was slightly disappointed to find that pizza was the only option on the menu. Additionally, I noticed I was overcharged on a few items—for instance, wine glasses were listed at 3 euros but I was charged 4 euros each. While it wasn't a significant difference, and I didn’t want to make a fuss in front of the owner and locals at the bar, it did leave me feeling somewhat taken advantage of. The service was efficient but unremarkable.

In Perledo there are two places where you can have a drink and eat, with bar Milano being one of them. The place has beautiful views, but the overall atmosphere is very down to earth. It seems to be popular among locals so it tends to be quite loud. The menu features pastas , grilled fish , meat dishes and pizzas. Food is pretty ok, you won’t be disappointed. However for those looking for a serene lakeview atmosphere, this may not be the best choice. Prices are slightly higher for the level of food and service. Note that tip is already included.

Myself and my boyfriend visited this place on a day trip to varenna. Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable, we really enjoyed our long talk. Beautiful restaurant/bar, perfect location, amazingly friendly staff and the atmosphere is just perfect.

It was absolutely lovely. We sat on the terrace and watched lake Como. The view is spectacular and the drinks are phenomenal. We saw turtles and fish and had a lovely vanilla gelato that I highly recommend. The service was attentive and nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. It is much like a hidden sanctuary away from the noise of the town. I definitely would come here again.

Delicious dinner! The pasta is fantastic - particularly the lobster linguine and the beef ragu. They've changed up the menu which hasn't been reprinted yet but the staff did a great job of explaining what has been replaced so you know what to expect. Super friendly staff, great wine and a nice indoor location.

My husband and I rented lounge chairs for the afternoon for 30 euros each and it was one of our favorite days during our stay in Varenna! The service was amazing, great drinks and food, and you can’t beat that pool with the view of the lake. If you want a relaxing activity away from the tourist traps, go here!!
Natalie G — Google review
came here for drinks and dessert! ordered their peach juice and affogato - this place had the vibes… they were bumping music, sunset views were gorgeous - we stayed for a while! the view really reminded me of LA lol :’) but drinks and dessert were great! everyone working there seemed chill and easygoing - we enjoyed our stay here!

Very nice and cozy location! Food was great and service excellent! We had a nice chat and were also given good advices for grocery shopping 😁 Keep to good Work! Grazie mille!
Eka T — Google review
What a charming place with good food and conversation. They loved our dog and I loved their large Aperol Spritz! Highly recommend this charming restaurant!
Scott A — Google review
Our dining experience was marred by the food being not just different, but also unappetizing. The shrimp stuffed ravioli, ordered by three individuals, was particularly disappointing, with a fishy taste and a lukewarm serving temperature. The drinks were also subpar, with the Old Fashion and Martinis being the worst we have ever had. As we left, we couldn't help but wonder what issues plagued this establishment.

Bistro
Bar
Bistro Varenna is a charming Italian eatery with a rich history dating back to 1893. Nestled in the historic Piazza San Giorgio di Varenna, this bistro offers a mix of traditional and innovative Mediterranean, regional, and local dishes. The menu features authentic Italian and regional flavors that promise to delight your palate. Visitors praise the friendly staff, delicious lasagna, delightful drinks, and delectable chocolate croissants.
One of the best desserts i ever tried in my life. We had 2 capucchinos, one mocachino and a Ginseng coffe. It was all very good. Keep in mind the Ginseng (big size) coffe has the same size as the typicall espresso shot. Still it was worth it. Loved the taste. 👍🏻 I recommend the pistachio tart for the sweet toothed people 😁
Khoa F — Google review
One of my favorite parts of Varenna was this cafe! We came for our honeymoon to Italy and loved waking up early to enjoy coffee together. The coffee is truly better in Italy, my cappuccino every morning was incredible, coming from a coffee connoisseur! I also enjoyed the best pistachio croissant each morning, and all of the staff are filled with joy. I already look forward to my next visit and next cappuccino at this cafe!

This sandwich was called the cotoletto. It is exactly how it is written. My school dinners had more nutrients and flavour than this piece of cardboard. The best thing about this place is the location. A bird came to try the food and even that thought it was poison. Come here if you're drunk. The drinks are good.
Sebastian S — Google review
Food and service were very good and timely!
Cheyenne S — Google review
Horrible place with horrible food. Pizza means 2 small squares 10 cm each and risotto with fish means 2 small pieces of fish on the rice
Robert R — Google review
Service was great, servers were much kinder than many other places we visited around Lake Como. The server Michele (? Not sure if I’m butchering his name. He has dark hair and a band tattoo on his upper forearm) was so kind and welcoming. He served us 3 mornings in a row, and made delicious cappuccinos. The vibe is very cute, and prices are good. If I was a local I’d be here every day. We saw several locals visiting this bistro in the mornings, which shows you it’s actually GOOD and not just for tourists. Thank you for positively contributing to our visit to Varenna!! 💛

It's a nice stop to get some refreshments and good cakes. Pleasant service and chill atmosphere.

Best place in Varenna to soak in all the charm of this lake town and Lake Como itself. You'll be able to see Bellagio from here and also take some stunning pictures of the village and the lake with great backdrops.

📍 Passeggiata degli Innamorati – Varenna, Lake Como, Italy 🇮🇹 A romantic lakeside walkway 🌊🌹 that connects the ferry terminal ⛴️ to Varenna’s old town. From there you can walk uphill and through staircases 🚶‍♂️⬆️ to reach 📍 Villa Monastero 🌿🏛️, then return down to the ferry station in time to board for Bellagio ⛴️. The path is short but very scenic, with red railings, flowers 🌸, and stunning views of Lake Como 🏞️—especially beautiful at sunset 🌅. A charming walk, though be ready for some steps along the way.

The “Lovers’ Walk” along Lake Como is more than just a path—it feels like stepping into a postcard. The views of the lake shimmer with changing light, and every turn reveals another breathtaking perspective framed by mountains and water. There is a quiet romance in the air, whether you are walking as a couple, with friends, or simply alone with your thoughts. The stroll is short but unforgettable, offering a rare mix of beauty, serenity, and timeless charm.

A tranquil place with beautiful views and crystal clear water when it is not too busy. The swan family bathing in the area is definitely a plus.
Joyce L — Google review
Beautiful walk. It’s best to go prior to 9am during weekday, there will be no crowds.
Matt F — Google review
Beautiful views to take photos of!! Sometimes it gets crowded, but it has never stopped me from taking stunning photos like these!
Simona L — Google review
Lovely 15 minutes walk. Lots of stops for pictures and romantic spots.
Ele P — Google review
Hopefully you know this is not a hike. A stroll along the lake and a lovely one. The crowds can make this less pleasurable, early morning or evening after the day trippers are best. Take time to stop where you can appreciate the view of the lake.

Good cappuccino and great croissants with lots of different fillings. Cream and chocolate, pistachio, cream, lemon cream... plus a refreshing one with cream and fruits.
Lorenzo C — Google review
Not the best experience. Food took a while to bring. All we ordered was a sandwich and a bagel. Good option if you just got off the train and are about to die from starvation. Otherwise, I’d look somewhere else to eat.
Brian N — Google review
Nice place, but nothing special. Good sandwiches, but very expensive. Also I wait 15 minutes for sandwich that was already prepared and ready to take.
Natalia K — Google review
Awful sour americana, too dry, too sweet snacks Cannoncini type. Looks better than tastes. Rude young waitress. Totally don't recommend.
Dominika L — Google review
The service is quite rude. They also tried to make us pay for more than we ordered. Unfortunately, the waitress doesn't speak a word in English, so it was very difficult to communicate and get our money back (we didn't notice at first that they overcharged us), but eventually they gave the money back.
Asia S — Google review
Very bad service!!! Waitresses are very rude for no reason. They’re grumpy and can’t speak a word in English. Very bad vibes in this place. No wonder they didn’t have any customers. Would not recommend, especially not for tourists! 🤢
YB — Google review
If you dont speak Italian you won't receive any cips or olives next to beer or wine. The staff is not friendly, i can say that they are bored ...
Bogdan M — Google review
The place looks ok. But the cocktails were super expensive oh god...
