Pub
The Ship Inn is a charming country pub located in Low Newton By The Sea. It boasts a picturesque beer garden, exposed stone interiors, and an inviting open fire. Recognized as one of the best beach bars in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller, it offers a perfect setting next to the stunning Northumberland Coast. With its own microbrewery on-site, visitors can enjoy a pint under endless blue skies.
We stopped for a couple of beers at the end of a day's walking before the minibus arrived. It's set in a beautiful horseshoe shaped set of fisherman cottages around a green looking right over the coast. What a fantastic location!!!! Staff friendly and happy to explain the history, very relaxed ambience, local beer, seating inside ( if its cold) and outside in the sun on benches chairs and on the lawn (obvs)

Excellent pub in one of the most beautiful little fishing hamlets on the NE coast. Friendly service, decent range of beers (including their own micro brewery), and sitting out on the green facing the sea is amazing. They usually have pub meals, but when we visited they only had a barbie offered, but the food was delicious!
Stephen P — Google review
A wonderful wee pub in a stunning Hamlet. Great pies, sandwiches, and salads. They brew their own ales, which are excellent. It is very dog friendly and just a few metres from a stunning beach. A superb watering hole for Northumberland coast hikers.

Fab pub right by the beach. Great choice of real ales, got it's own brewery, if you can grab a table outside in the sun we'll you've made it 😊☀️🌞
Simon L — Google review
Quite a small pub but served absolutely fantastic crab sandwiches so if you can then try to find a seat. Would be nice if they served chips but I can understand why they don't. Really lovely location.
Rosa — Google review
Cosy 18th C pub by the shore....tables outside.....inside not a lot of space so people seem to get there early and the queue can be out the door! What they produce from the tiny kitchen and bar is amazing Dogs are allowed inside. Food is tasty but no frills...just excellent ingredients simply cooked....no desserts but there was an amazing fruit cake on the bar which had to be tried! You have to try the crab stottie this close to the sea ...its scrummy.

Lovely place to stop when walking from Craster to Seahouses along the coast. Very welcome Three sheets to the wind ale. Very memorable walk and lunch stop.
Tony E — Google review
A lovely pub in a fabulous spot. Was doubtful that the food would be good... but it was brilliant some really good, surprising choices and quick to arrive... I don't know how they do it in such a small place. Well worth the visit. Almost on the beach so good for a walk after your meal.

The Jolly Fisherman Inn is a charming low-ceilinged pub located in Craster, offering a cozy atmosphere with features like a brick fireplace, banquettes, and stripped floors. The dining area provides stunning sea views, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal. While it can get quite busy due to its popularity, the inn comes highly recommended by locals and online sources for its excellent food and drink options.
Fabulous pub in a fantastic location right on the cliff and on the coastal path. Great choice of real ales and wines. Good food if a bit pricey. Recommend the famous Craster Crab sandwiches. Great views of the harbour, Dunstanburgh Castle and the sea.
Simon L — Google review
We enjoyed a lovely meal here on Friday night. The food was lovely and we enjoyed it. The Seafood share board was huge so we had left overs to take away. The only negatives are that as a dog owner you are seated away from the view which is a shame and that other dog owners had dogs on large leads that were not near their tables. It meant that certain dogs were approaching other diners and we had to climb over the dog or the lead to get out from our table. It’s such a small space that it should be monitored a little more.
Hollie K — Google review
Craster is a Lovely little fishing village with a couple of pubs, and the Jolly Fisherman is in a perfect location overlooking the sea. Loads of outside seating both at the front and rear. Great drinks menu, including a good non alcoholic menu. Food selection is great if you love fish. We had the crab soup followed by the fish board and sea trout. Pudding the pannacotta. Dog friendly in the bar. Menus and food pictures at the end.
Simon B — Google review
Called in for a drink and ended up staying for dinner as the menu was very enticing. After much deliberation I had the seafood platter for one and my wife had the soup and a bowl of beef dripping cooked chips. All the food was very tasty, very well presented and enjoyed with a amazing view up to Dunstanburgh Castle (we sat outside as the weather was lovely). For desert we both had the trio of ice cream. All washed down with a nice pint from a decent selection. All areas outside were dog friendly
Neil G — Google review
Due to no time and busy in the restaurant part, we just stopped by the fish&chips trailer to get a sandwich. We got a prawn and crayfish sandwich and chips. The chips turned very good. The sandwich was nice and fresh, served with a little bit of crisps and side on coleslaw which was really nice. We didn't wait long for food. I think the food from trailer is a bit overpriced but I would love to get back and try the food in the restaurant. Great location of the place, there are lots of tables in front and back of the restaurant, the water station for dogs too.
Klaudia — Google review
The Jolly Fisherman in Craster is a must-visit place if you like seafood. We had a wonderful meal there, and the fish platter was a definite highlight. It was packed with a fantastic variety of fresh, perfectly cooked seafood, showcasing the best of what the Northumberland coast has to offer. Beyond the superb food, the staff were incredibly accommodating, finding us a spot in the bar area where we could comfortably enjoy our meal with our Labrador, Benji. The place itself has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and provides stunning views of the harbour, adding to the overall charm. The service was excellent - attentive but not intrusive - and their dog-friendly approach makes it an ideal spot for a special occasion or a memorable meal after exploring the beautiful coastal paths.

Fabulous location with a terrace overlooking the sea which is dog friendly. Staff were lovely very helpful and attentive. The Kipper was sublime direct from the smokehouse over the road, delicious. Highly recommend.

Gastropub
Pub
Nestled in the picturesque Tyne Valley, The Rat Inn is a delightful sandstone establishment surrounded by lush gardens. This charming gastropub features a rustic bar adorned with beams and offers an ever-evolving menu that highlights local, seasonal, and ethical ingredients.
Popped into The Rat after visiting Hexham. Hadn’t been here for years and had forgotten what a beautiful location for a pub it is. A warm welcome awaited us. We both ordered a cheeseburger with chips and weren’t disappointed. The service was spot on and we left feeling that we’d definitely like to return soon.
Louise A — Google review
The Rat Inn has been on my list of places I want to visit for some time. Absolutely delighted to finally dine here. Friday afternoon in September, there were still some tables available inside, plenty outside. Lovely atmosphere and ambience inside. Great selection of specials on the boards. Very good bloody mary, terrine of the day was excellent, delicious bread and huge portion. Followed by an outstanding sea bream dish for my main. We were a party of 5. We all had starters, mains and most had puddings. All dishes bar one main course were absolutely first class. The one which was slightly disappointing was a sausage baguette, it had same chutney as starter, felt quite basic, sausages and bread under whelming. However all the other dishes really were great. Proper quality. Excellent and friendly service. Thoroughly recommend and would love to go back.
Kate — Google review
We turned up to the Rat without a booking, just about to start the Northumberland 250. The staff were really welcoming. They were clear that the the kitchen was short staffed at that lunch time, so we may have a wait, which we were happy with. Within 20 minutes someone came over and took our order, and our food arrived shortly after - I was really impressed how quickly this was and that we were remembered! The mackerel starter was outstanding and stood up to ones I've had in fine dining restaurants. The burger was classic, and well made - it was simple and excited perfectly. My partner had the truffle mac and cheese... obviously I tried some. I'm not a mac and cheese person, but that was amazing and I would eat it all. Local beers delicious too, and everything a fair price.
Jonathan M — Google review
This is a beautiful bar with a nice beer garden set in the breathtaking scenery of the Tyne valley. The beer was nice, the service was friendly and it was an excellent place to enjoy the sunshine in the afternoon. I felt like the burger wasn't worth the £19.00 I paid for it although it was very nice and the soup was excellent. I guess that's the price you pay for the location.
Joshua — Google review
The Rat Inn, perched above the Tyne Valley, never quite gives it all away in one go. I've been alone, with my partner and with friends and every time there's something new to discover (though the view is always the same, thankfully 😉). A pub with charm, good food and enough character to keep you coming back for another round🐾.
Valeria K — Google review
Went to The Rat Inn for a Sunday lunch, a choice of two or three courses. I was very disappointed in my starter, smoked mackerel and salad, and was quite expensive for a lot of salad with a couple of flakes of mackerel, I expected a nice piece of fish for the price. For my main course I went for the beef which was an extra cost on top of which was already priced quite high, I expected something very special, but no unfortunately not, just two small slices of beef, even though it was nice and pink it was still a little tough. The potatoes & vegetables were very al dente. If I'm going to dine out & be charged these kinds of prices, I would be expecting some very specially cooked food. Staff are not very friendly or welcoming. We didn't just walk in expecting a table, but we still felt as if we were putting them out. We actually booked well in advance, so they were expecting us. They could have at least greeted us with a smile. It wasn't as if they were full. We arrived just as they were opening with only a couple of other guests already seated. There are no excuses in my book. All staff, especially the owners, need to be more attentive to anyone who visits. The view was gorgeous.
Mick C — Google review
A medley of mediocrity, the Rat Inn labours under the illusion of its own charm. There was nothing inherently terrible about the Sunday Lunch, yet there was objectively nothing good. The local sirloin was thin and gristly, and the subsequent surcharge did little to satiate, and on a similar note, the thin-stemmed wine glasses are "reserved for the specials." The cauliflower was plain, the cabbage was fine; meanwhile, the Yorkshire had the same qualities as Icarus. The pallid potatoes are the last sigh in a story not worth telling. The desserts remained good for a bite, maybe two, but they were about as complex as simple addition and the same could be said for the gravy. The restaurant itself has an enviable ambiance in a beautiful setting, but the buck stops short with the men’s toilets personifying the food; a tired affair battling with clear complacency. The window of accolades tells a different story, surely of a bygone time.
Alexander C — Google review
We wanted to try somewhere new for Sunday dinner and this award-winning pub seemed to be just what we were looking for. However, we were all so dissatisfied and disappointed with the experience. The restaurant itself is in a lovey location with a beautiful view, the desserts were nice and some of the staff were friendly. On a Sunday there is only a 2 or 3 course menu to choose from. It is definitely not a place for vegetarians. When we phoned the day before, they were unable to tell us what was on the menu, but we decided to give it a try anyway. There was only one choice and that was cauliflower risotto. I hoped to have a starter and a dessert, but was told that it would still be the two course set price of £28.95. If you wanted beef, it was another £4 on top. One of us went for that and another one of us had the lamb. The lamb and beef arrived tepid, the Yorkshire puddings were dry and we had to send the cauliflower back because of some unattractive black spots on it. We were told it was black pepper! Instead, it just wasn't fresh. The vegetarian option proved to be the most tasty of the main courses. I came home and read some of the other lower star reviews and I am in agreement with them. Very similar experiences. We expected something really special, especially for the price and it really wasn't. We'll be going back to our usual, friendly place where you can eat much better for less.

The Plough is a charming accommodation housed in a well-maintained 1896 townhouse, featuring cozy country-style rooms and serving up classic British cuisine. Additionally, the establishment boasts a stylish pub nearby, perfect for evening outings. For those with carnivorous inclinations, the renovated rough-luxe smokehouse known as the Dirty Bottles offers a delectable selection of meats and sides. Nearby attractions include the renowned Barter Books, an expansive literary haven set within an old railway station.
Eight Ladies who Lunch. Our first visit to the Plough in Alnwick. Excellent varied menu. Plus a small lunch with a drink followed by a coffee with a small sweet. Ideal for us older ladies. Fantastic service from all the staff, especially Reece, who made our visit extra special. Not easy keeping eight old ladies happy!! Warning we will be back!!

Review only for the pub (dinner), did not stay. Standard pub fare, the food was pretty good and very reasonably priced. The service and atmosphere I'd say was a little weird, felt a bit ghost town. The staff were nice, but felt like they might all be quite new, they seemed to be a bit unsure of themselves. We waited quite a while to get the bill, despite hardly any other customers, but the rest of the service (ordering, drinks, food) were all done in good time. Definitely recommend the steak and ale pie, it was darn tasty.
Zara L — Google review
It's rare that I leave negative reviews, but having just returned from a family meal I feel compelled to share our experiences. We ordered from the set menu. Our main courses took over 50 minutes to arrive at our table. One of our party ordered steak, cooked medium rare as recommended on the menu. Sadly the steak was well done but we darent send it back for fear or a very long wait for a replacement. The garden peas had that tell tale look of having been left under heat lamps for some time, which might explain the woefully over done steak. The mains took so long to arrive that we had finished our drinks, so ordered more. After almost 30 minutes of staring at our empty mains plates we cancelled the drinks, hopeful that our desserts would arrive and we could end this disappointing meal. Alas, it was another 20 minutes before our desserts arrived. To be fair, my daughter enjoyed her main course and we all enjoyed the puddings, but the experience was disappointing on the whole. I don't think we'll be back.
Colin S — Google review
Gorgeous room, really warm welcome, but it all kind of fell apart when I tried to go downstairs for breakfast. Signs said breakfast from 8am, left my room to find my door alarmed and shut, so used the fire escape to get out of the hotel. Entire place locked up and in darkness, no sign of another person or any breakfast. So I had super noodles in a tea mug for breakfast in my room before a precarious exit down the fire escape with my luggage. Contacted the hotel by phone, no answer, via Facebook, no answer. It was a shame as ideal location for Alnwick Gardens, a 2 minute walk away and a lovely room and friendly welcome from staff member the evening before.
Catherine W — Google review
A disappointing evening visit to The Plough, not entirely the junior barman’s fault - but painfully slow to make a cocktail, and a shot, as well as being overwhelmed when refunding an item of food that was sold out. Moreover there was an entire lack of leadership from any bar management which should be addressed. 3 separate customers offered assistance to the poor barman. Overall a nice location with a good selection but it was underwhelming and thankfully I shan’t be coming back, good luck on your visit…
Richard S — Google review
I do not usually post negative comments about a business but after today's experience thought that I had to give a poor rating for today's dining experience at The Plough at Alnwick. We booked a table in advance and turned up a bit early. Had a drink whilst we waited to be seated. Our reservation was for 4.30pm. We were seated and told that kitchen was being set up and that things would be ready in 5 minutes or so (at 4.20pm). We also asked about ordering the food and we're told that a member of staff would let us know when kitchen was open. After 20 minutes we asked at bar if kitchen was open and we're told it would be at 5pm and that someone would let us know when food was being served. At 5.10pm we went once again to the bar and were told that food orders were being taken since 5pm! We placed an order and were surprised that although the venue sold "fish and chips" dog meals, we could not buy one as the server did not know how to put this through the till. We than had to wait almost 40 minutes for the food to be served. This was most surprising as we were the only people eating at this time! I can accept waiting a while for good food to be prepared, however, the quality of the food was very poor for the price we paid and the portions were very small. The food seemed to be similar to that served at a supermarket cafe where frozen foods are heated and served. When paying at the bar a member of staff asked how we enjoyed our visit. In response I asked him if he really wanted to know. He shook his head and said that he only worked at the venue and people should let the manager know. Interesting to note that the manager was not directed to our group ( if the manager was in). I really hope this venue ups their game on customer service and either improve the quality of food on offer or reduce the price.

Family of 6 decided to pop in for a meal and wasn't disappointed from a good selection of drinks to us all enjoying our meals I would definitely return! Big thanks to our servers who were very attentive.

We’re to start!!! Parked in the car park round the back. No clear way to the reception. Staff failed to was an issue with the kitchen and no food that evening. Once shown to our room the staff only told one of the couples the doors to downstairs would be locked at 11pm at night. But the staff regularly closed the door early!! The only way to each floor was by the fire escapes that were permanently left open and unlock. So anyone could walk into the place. Rooms are very basic and need some attention. Very unloved and very much an after thought. We went to book a table for our evening meal we found at the kitchen wasn’t opening till 6.30pm. So booked for 6.30pm but instead the waitress booked us in for 7pm. We ordered our food to be told 10 mins later they couldn’t do once of the starts 2 people had ordered. It take 2hr in a very quiet restaurant to have two course!! Then we weren’t given an option to have any pudding as the staff wanted to close. No apologies are offered of complimenty drinks for the delay in food are with the fact we only got part of the meal. The food was nice.

The pub also features a beer garden with a pizza shack and an ice cream stall serving dog-friendly treats, making it an ideal spot for visitors with furry friends.
Managed to get a table on Christmas Eve. Wow! Dog friendly and incredible vegan options on the menu, that have been given thought and are actually exciting to order. We had a beyond burger and the vegan fish. Both came with everything you'd expect. The battered banana blossom was out of this world. Would visit again without hesitation.

Checked reviews on Google and as we were staying locally we decided to drop in for evening meal, we were not disappointed. I had the steak and ale pie which had come highly recommended and for good reason, it has to be one of the best I’ve had. My wife had the scampi which was lovely. Proper home cooked chips and good portion sizes too. They had a good selection of drinks and the atmosphere was great considering it was a Saturday evening and there was football on the TV! The music was at a nice level and the TV was muted so not distracting if you weren’t interested. The staff were really welcoming and the service was excellent we didn’t wait long for our cutlery to be brought to us and the food came out really quickly too, again considering it was very busy. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back

Loved it. The food was so tasty and plentiful. My husband had the steak and ale pie, there was alot of juicy chunky beef in his pie, it looked so tasty. I had the lamb balti, the lamb was so tender and it was not that spicy which I was so pleased about.

We’ve been coming to The Mason’s Arms in Warkworth for years, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, with just the right mix of a traditional pub feel and thoughtful updates. The menu is consistently good, with regular tweaks that keep things fresh while still offering the favourites we’ve come to love. The staff are always friendly and helpful, creating a genuinely relaxed and enjoyable experience every time. It’s incredibly dog friendly too – our four-legged friend is always made to feel as welcome as we are! We were especially pleased to see you can now book a table, which makes visiting even easier – especially as it’s such a popular spot (for good reason). Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is a place you’ll want to keep coming back to.

Not being from the area and it being late in the evening on a Fri we stopped in and were seated immediately. It was busy and upstairs was half full however service was prompt & it wasn’t too loud. Food was excellent, hot & plentiful in portion size. Calzone was stuffed, crispy with a sumptuous tomato sauce on the side. Perfectly cooked pasta retaining its bite with an excellent balance of ingredients in the sauce. Sid of chips were crunchy & fluffy. The decor is modern, classsic, open & even the bathrooms are nice. You can see the pizza oven & prep. Also seen a private room for bigger parties but equally as cute a restaurant for an intimate date. Downstairs has a disabled bathroom.

Great restaurant, been going for years. And they love a birthday! We go for a dinner just to get out and be casual for an hour or so, or quit often more formal with others and make a night of it there. They even have a cafe next door that does lovely coffee and some very nive quick food which is also very good.

We had two great appetizers - meatballs and scallops - the meatballs had a little kick (spice) and the scallops were perfectly prepared. We capped it off with a pizza which was top notch. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were fantastic! Highly recommend - you won't be disappointed.

Lollo Rosso in Morpeth is hands down one of my all-time favourite restaurants – and it just keeps getting better and better. I’ve been coming here for years, and every visit reminds me why I love it so much. The food is absolutely gorgeous – always fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and it means so much that they always remember our preferences and go the extra mile to make us feel at home. Whether it’s a special occasion or a casual meal out, Lollo Rosso never disappoints. Highly recommend!

What an amazing meal and fabulous customer service. My seafood linguine looked and tasted amazing. A generous portion with a variety of seafood. The pizza was delicious too, not to mention the tiramisu we squeezed in for dessert. We came following a recommendation from a customer in an antiques shop, and it was a great way to celebrate the last night of our holiday. We weren't disappointed. My only regret is that it's not closer to my home town! We will definitely make a special detour if we are anywhere close.

The Bamburgh Castle Inn is a charming harbourside inn located in the picturesque fishing village of Seahouses. The inn offers bright and airy rooms with sea views and balconies, catering to a diverse range of guests from walkers to divers. Overlooking the harbor with distant views of Bamburgh Castle, this award-winning establishment serves as a gateway to the Farne Islands, known for its historical significance and abundant wildlife.
A lovely pub/restaurant set right in the centre of Seahouses. It is quite large but set out in such a way as it feels like a cosy country pub. Lovely food with great friendly service from the staff. The garden overlooks the harbour with great views. Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne to tbe north and the Farne islands to the east. The photo looks north.

Very good visit - beer was good, service good and excellent location. I had the venison which I was not overly impressed with - over cooked, and we were not checked on so was unable to provide any feedback. Starters were good, as were the other mains on the table. I have visited since so it has not put me off the place but I would be a bit more cautious in meal choice.

Stayed here for one night for bed & breakfast in the annexe via the car park. The room was lovely, clean, quiet & comfortable with just a sunroof for a view but I was told about that. The breakfast was help yourself & plentiful & of a better than average quality, the highlight being the fresh bread for toasting. The overall experience though I felt was overpriced. On the night I arrived they were clearly understaffed & didn't have any real ale to try & as informed by the barman, he hadn't got time to change the barrels so I went across the road. It can get very busy because of the location.

Very jolly pub, huge inside and quick service. Staff working really hard. Some interesting things on the menu. Was surprised how quickly the meals arrived. Can only imagine they were partly prepared. We're on holiday, looking to treat ourselves with holiday spending money. The food was very average. Nobody was hanging around it was more of a conveyor belt feeding the hungry. I appreciate this works for others. Only 2 real ales on, sometimes 1. The pub opposite had 7-8 ales on offer. We tried the Bamburgh 3 times.

Large pub with good views. Food was disappointing, limited selection of beer and wine. Need to get the reservation policy in the restaurant fixed, tried to move us and the table next to us to other areas for bookings that came in after we were seated and told we were able to sit anywhere as long as it didn’t have a reserved sign on it.

A great night's stop over in this centrally located inn. Friendly staff, a very pleasant room and a fab full English brekky included in the room rate. Our only niggle was that the room was too warm but it cooled down overnight. Would definitely stay again.

Great pub. Sit out side for spectacular views, lovely food or just go for the quiz night or open mike. We had a couple of really good nights there and the locals are friendly as long as you dont win the quiz 😛 which we didn't

Nice hotel but a bit overpriced, stayed in better for less. Had the steak and chips on the first night, very nice. Breakfast was good. Parking a big problem as you probibly have to use local pay and display. If rhe price was a little lower would use more oftern.

Nestled in the charming village of Newton on the Moor, The Cook & Barker Inn is a delightful stone-built establishment that exudes rustic charm. This traditional Northumbrian country inn has been a beloved dining spot for over 25 years, maintaining its character and warm atmosphere. Guests can enjoy informal rooms alongside a cozy restaurant that serves up hearty meals, including an enticing weekday lunch offer and an extensive à la carte menu in the evenings.
This is a beautiful friendly pub restaurant fabulous food and staff. Not the cheapest for food but more than excellent value for your money the quality of the food and variety on the menu far outweighs the cost. A three course meal for two and drinks cost just over £100 but we did chose the most expensive on the menu. Be prepared for big portion size excellent quality and value for money will definitely be going again. This has become a must on our visits to the north east.

We booked this hotel on the day of arrival, a last minute thing, but what a lovely warm welcome we got as we entered the public bar. It was busy and friendly, just what pubs of old used to be. A fire roaring at one end and filled with charm. The room was nicely decorated with quality curtains and bedding and spotlessly clean. We booked dinner and opted for a special offer available on Monday and Tuesday nights. All of you food was delicious, well cooked, made with high quality ingredients and well presented by really pleasant staff. At breakfast there was a broad selection dishes. I had kedgeree topped with a poached egg and my husband had the full English. Again I couldn't fault it for quality and flavour, and the service was excellent too. All in all this was a terrific surprise overnight stay. Highly recommend it and look forward to coming back.

Lovely country pub with great service and good food. It has one of the best vegetarian selections I have seen anywhere. The staff were very kind and understanding when my sister became unwell. (It was nothing to do with the food!) I would highly recommend it and will visit again next time I am holidaying in the area.

Rooms are lovely and cosy, plenty of parking and nice little bear garden. I would definitely stay over again as there is plenty to do in the area if you want to go out, which we did! The food was unbelievable, I got oysters to start and we got the sharing steak board and bottles of wine - best steak I’ve ever had, also really well priced! Breakfast was also so good.

Our first visit to Cook & Barker, Monday-Wednesday this week, and it will not be our last. It was fantastic, nothing to fault. Food was excellent, huge portions, elegantly served piping hot dishes, lots of choice. Nice dining room. Friendly staff. Breakfasts were good with a lot of choice. Room was very good - we were lucky to be given an upgrade, again nothing to fault. Will be returning for sure

Delightful Sunday meal. The menu has to be the best one I’ve seen for ages. Plenty selection. Kids menu for a 2 year old was good. Portion size was massive. Service was excellent. But if you want a slot I’d book a table, hint to everyone to how good it was you’ll see the car park it was full. Will go back because it never disappointed.

Review: Great Food, But the Stay Fell Short We ate twice in the bar and the food was genuinely good—well-cooked, satisfying, and served in a cosy setting. Credit where it’s due: the kitchen knows what it’s doing. But the positives end there. A single glass of wine cost £10.95. That’s steep even by London standards, where you’d expect more competitive pricing. It felt out of touch with the rest of the offering. Room & Cleanliness The room was just ok. Not bad, not great—just forgettable. Cleaning was inconsistent. One day, dirty coffee cups were left untouched and no coffee or milk was replenished. Basic hospitality missed. Room 19 deserves a warning: the mattress was worn out and rock hard. If you like sleeping on concrete, it might suit you. Otherwise, it’s overdue for replacement. Noise & Management What truly ruined the stay was the behaviour of three young children running wild on the landing—banging doors, screaming, and treating the corridor like a playground. I asked them to stop and was met with “yeah right” from the eldest. At 8:45pm, I challenged them again and was told, “it’s not your place.” I tried calling the Cook & Barker six times to ask for help. No answer. I considered going down in person, but if the children were that rude and entitled, I dreaded what the parents might be like. Arrival & Service Check-in was chaotic. We waited for our key while the bar staff struggled to manage who was next. No system, no training—just confusion. Final Thoughts It’s a shame. The inn has potential, and the food was spot on. But the lack of basic service, poor room upkeep, and total absence of management when things went wrong mean we won’t be returning. We’ve already booked elsewhere for future visits—and we’re up here three times a year. We thought this might be our base. Sadly, it’s not.

The Apple Inn is a cozy pub with modern rooms and a country-chic restaurant that offers free breakfast. Located near Belford, just 3.8 miles from Bamburgh, this dog-friendly gastro pub in Lucker village serves an exceptional Sunday lunch, as well as lunch and dinner menus with plenty of options for the whole family. The inn also boasts a great selection of local spirits, liqueur coffees, gin, real ales, and cocktails.
This pub/restaurant is outstanding in all aspects: great location, comfortable dining areas with a great atmosphere. Excellent, friendly service and a varied menu to suit all tastes. I had the beef Sunday roast and the beef just melted in the mouth. My wife's chicken Sunday roast was equally excellent. No complaints whatsoever and we will definitely be visiting again!

We had a lovely family meal at The Apple Inn. The roast dinners were delicious and Lindsay and the team were fantastic. My daughter is anaphylatic to milk and they catered to her allergy brilliantly. They gave us a menu for her with all the unsafe food crossed out and for her sorbet dessert they ensured a fresh scoop was used. I felt very comfortable and confident eating here and would thoroughly recommend. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Thank you!

Amazing place to stay for a few days. Close to the coast but easy to get to off the A1. The Braeburn room was fantastic, clean, tidy and cosy. The food was amazing for breakfast and evening meal. Loads of choice. The staff were friendly and attentive. Local beers and spirits at the bar. Definitely would stay there again.

Had breakfast here, it was a buffet service. It's a fixed price of £20 which seemed a bit high, especially if you only had a sausage bap. But the full English breakfast was great, but perhaps individual prices of the items of the menu would be better.

Incredible dinner and service. Perfect location in the centre of the village with fantastic views. We had dinner in the ‘dog friendly’ room - service was exceptional. I had the prawn cocktail which was one of the best we have ever had. The specials were very tasty too. Thank you for a fabulous dinner

Lovely location opposite the Castle. The room we stayed in had a roll top bath. The evening meal was delicious- Breakfast was also very tasty and freshly cooked. Parking is the issue here, there are a few spaces outside the front door. We were very lucky , we drove from the castle and a Range Rover was leaving so was able to park outside the front door.

Came here for Sunday Lunch and had the three course meal deal. Was absolutely amazing! Had scallops to start which were gorgeous, followed by Roast Beef/Roast Pork with all the trimmings. Again couldn't fault it, beef was delicious and melted in the mouth. We finished with a Creme Brule and the Strawberry roulade which were both fantastic. Amazing food/service and all for £32 each (excluding drinks) for three courses. Will be coming here again!

Can't comment on the accommodation but had walked past the restaurant a few times in a week and it looks premium so thought we'd try it one night. Unfortunately it did not live up to the impression it makes from the outside. The staff are lovely, and the bar made a fine cocktail but thats where the good ends, the food just did not live up to the standard you would expect for the location, atmosphere and menu, made worse by the price. I don't mind paying good money for good food and experience, this delivered a good experience but poor food and high price left a bitter taste. If they can sort the menu, and up the performance in the kitchen this would be as good as it looks. Thanks for the great service and drinks, but please improve the food.

We had lunch here today. Superb food. Fantastic service. Great atmosphere. My husband and I booked in upon recommendation from a friend. We ordered 2 soft drinks from the bar, served promptly. He chose the seafood platter and I couldn't resist the lobster thermidor!!! We had a separate plate in the middle so we could share.....! Well, wowser.....so fresh, full of flavour and presented beautifully. Definitely recommend these dishes. It all felt quite special yet quite relaxed. The lady to our left ordered a fish finger sandwich and it wasn't your bulk standard...Next level indeed! The Gentleman serving us was lovely. Very attentive but not over the top. Well presented, great welcoming smile and glided around the room effortlessly. Thank you....we will be back! Mr&Mrs Miller x

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! On entry, we were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome. Shown quickly to a nice table and asked for drinks and poppadoms. Staff are very friendly and chatty with a smile. We were given time to look at the menu, and ordering was easy. The pickle tray was amazing. The yoghurt sauce 😋 was the best! The food arrived and looked great! Wow, we were not wrong it was delicious!! We travel a lot and eat a lot of curry and this was by far definitely one of the best! Everything was very fresh and tasty, and the chicken just melted. All the ingredients used were clearly very freshly prepared. Enjoyed every bit!! We gave constructive criticism of the naan bread as this was super freshly made, just lacked flavour to the ones we chose. Still tasty! The guy (Mr. Newcastle fan!!) Came to ask if everything had been OK at the end, and we had a good chat and were made to feel very welcome! I requested he thanked the chefs for amazing food!

Highly recommend! We were visiting the area and looked for somewhere Halal. This family owned restaurant came up, so we thought to give it a try. We called ahead and they kindly accommodated us. From that initial call and on everyone was so polite with great customer service and care. We ordered the samosa chaat, chicken punjabi karahi, 2 naan, steemed rice and gulab jamon with ice cream all to share between 2 adults - which was the perfect amount of food. They kindly catered for our blend of drink, pineapple juice mixed with mango juice (you have to try this mix). The background music was great too. Overall an excellent eatery, with not a single fault whatsoever and prices seem fair. Btw I am someone who frequents Indian/ Pakistani restaurants in the capital of curry and trust me when I say, this is really that good - I had to leave a review. PS sorry about the photos, couldn't wait to tuck in, then I remembered to take photos!

Third visit to this fabulous curry house, as family recently moved to the area. Each visit has been amazing…chicken shashlik the first two times and chicken Punjabi Karai tonight. The shashlik was incredible but the karai was even better! Garlic and coriander naan cooked perfectly. Best karai I’ve ever had. Lovely, friendly and efficient service, from Abdul, and a great atmosphere too. 😀

The most delicious Indian food we’ve had - 10/10! Main dishes were beautifully presented, and the salad we ordered was the best we’ve had and complemented our food perfectly. Everything was hot, you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. The service was fantastic - the staff are just the right amount of attentive, ensuring you have drinks and that you’re not sitting too long between courses. Both the restaurant and staff are immaculate; glasses and crockery are beautifully clean and polished. We will be travelling from North Tyneside to Alnwick every time we want Indian food from now on!

We booked a table on a busy Friday night and were treated to a genuinely delicious, well priced meal. All the dishes we tried were excellent, as was the service. As well as the attentive and friendly service we received, I couldn't help notice the friendly, respectful attentiveness one of the waiters showed to an elderly couple sat nearby. We had eaten here before and been impressed, but this time was even better. You can tell when people working in a restaurant take pride in their business and that clearly, abundantly, visible here and rightly so. My wife and I fully intend to return when we are next in Northumberland.

Nestled in the charming fishing village of Boulmer, The Fishing Boat Inn boasts a rich history as England's gin smuggling hub from two centuries ago. This delightful inn offers three stylish rooms, each featuring balconies that provide stunning views of the beach and North Sea. Guests can indulge in fresh seafood at the on-site restaurant, which is set within a conservatory that enhances the dining experience with breathtaking vistas.
The food and drink was impeccable and so was the service. We couldn't fault it, it is definitely on the pricier side of somewhere to eat but was worth every single penny including the service charge. The food was absolutely stunning. The only minor complaint was that the scallops starter felt a bit tight with only two scallops for the price, but the flavours were there. We would all very much come back without a doubt! Was a real highlight of our trip. In addition such beautiful views of the sea at the back!

Whay a little gem! We were staying in Boulmer and spent a couple of evenings on the deck at the Fishing boat inn. We had 2 evening meals there, both were excellent. The staff are friendly and were great with our 8 yr old. Would highly recommend the dinner menu or just a drink on the back deck taking in the views!! Other reviews stated dogs were not welcome, which I understand is a policy for inside the pub, but the best views are on the back deck and dogs are very much welcome there.

We’ve eaten here several times when on holiday but decided, this time, to book in for two nights. It was certainly the best thing we’d ever done. We stayed in Beach House as it is all on the level and it was perfect . The room was immaculate with everything you could possibly need and a balcony looking out over the sea. We were very lucky with the weather so incredible sunrises and sunsets. To waken to the sea lapping was just the best- so relaxing. The staff can’t do enough for you and make you feel so welcome ( thank you Lisa and Lisa) . The food is superb and breakfast was part of the deal - and whatever you wanted. ( thank you Chef) . We ate there both nights and the restaurant was always full which speaks for itself. We can’t thank everyone enough for the best weekend ever- which is why we are already booked for next year again.

Genuinely one of the best Sunday Roasts we have had for a while. My wife had the nut roast and it was hands down one of the best she’s ever had (and she’s been veggie for over 5 years)! Incredible portions and they were super accommodating in providing an empty plate for our daughter to share our meals. Was slightly frustrating that it was cash only on the Sunday we visited. Service was great and overall vibe of the place was stellar.

We planned a long dog from our holiday cottage especially to visit this pub for lunch, researched on line and were looking forward to our day out. The forecast wasn’t great but the prospect of a warm pub lunch was exactly what we had in mind before heading back the same way. We were then shocked to discover that dogs were not allowed anywhere in the pub. Despite having a separate bar area to the main restaurant we were not welcome with our 1 well behaved dog, to the point that the manageress wouldn’t even let my husband stand in the large separate foyer to keep out of the cold Northumberland rain whilst our children had a quick bite to eat before heading home. So my husband and dog were forced to sit outside in the freezing rain. If I had the option of 0* I would have put this. If you plan to exclude the 1/3 of the UK population that have a dog perhaps you could let people know in advance on your website. Especially when you are situated on the coastal path that is so popular with dog owners.

Pub visit; thought about staying but they don't have an online presence and dident answer phone (thank God) or get back to us through emails, that was 2+ months ago.. Reviews were "interesting" the lady manager featured in negative comments. Pub is directly over beach but you can't sit near a window unless your eating. Bar is small so staying isn't recommended on many levels. Manager micro manages your presence, so not relaxing. Nothing here apart from the beach & a car park up road. It was raining heavily the day we visited. When I said we tried booking but no one answered the phone, no response given, not interested. That sums up this establishment and this review.! They have a glass door separating the bar from restaurant area, an enforced no go zone. Resultant you cannot even hear the sea, can't see the sea when drinking in the bar. What's the attraction of a pub beside the sea if you cannot experience the location over a drink?. I looked for scotch eggs on the menu as it was deemed "a substantial meal" during covid, but no. Menu +£30 for a main. Eating crisps wont get you a sea view!

Nestled in the charming village of Rennington, The Horseshoes Inn is a delightful traditional pub with a rich history dating back to 1841. This family-owned establishment has been serving up hearty meals for over three decades, earning a reputation for generous portions and an inviting atmosphere. Guests rave about the locally sourced ingredients that enhance their dining experience, making each meal not just satisfying but also fresh and flavorful.
After stumbling across The Horseshoes Inn we decided to stop for a bite to eat. We were a little apprehensive to learn it was under a new ownership and they had only opened the day previous. We decided to stay as we were starving and I am so glad we did. Despite having only been open two days the team at the pub were amazing. So attentive and work amazingly well together. When the food arrived it was beautiful. Presentation and taste were both exceptional. The atmosphere and feel of the pub fits with the cute quaint village it’s located in. We loved it so much we went back the following day for lunch

We really enjoyed our visit to The Horseshoes Inn. The staff were really friendly and professional in their duties and the food was top notch. It's very reasonably priced for the area where you can be paying double the rate for things with not much better quality. A nice little pub in the heart of Rennington village. We visited for an evening meal and catch up with friends. The food and service was really good. As well as the usual pub classics, the menu also included several dishes with a South East Asian twist. Three of us opted for the chicken, lime and coconut curry and and the forth had a Korean inspired chicken dish served on flat bread. All agreed the food was delicious and piping hot. The desserts were also very good. Friendly atmosphere and attentive staff made for a great evening and it's certainly a place worthy of a return visit.

Family of 3 with a dog had a beautifully presented Sunday dinner. We had roast pork loin and a beef dinner. Vegetables were nicely cooked and seasoned. Yorkshire pudding well risen and light. Will definitely be returning. Made sure we had room for dessert lemon posset and homemade shortbread, light and refreshing and a sticky toffee pudding to die for. On arrival staff were genuinely welcoming and efficient. Pub is clean and inviting. Plenty of room for people to move around and dogs not to be overwhelmed. Price and quality of food spot on. What a find.

Rang on Wednesday 2nd July to try to book a table for the evening, phone answered by Lisa in such a cheerful happy way! Great first impression. We then met her and fellow waitress that evening and both were really lovely, a real credit to you. The food was absolutely delicious, top quality, homemade, so tasty. Scotch Egg starter and the Chicken Pie (jug of sauce completely lush! Greens fab!) main absolutely faultless and proper flavoursome. Ham hock terrine also top nosh. Really so very pleased you fitted us in. Beautiful picturesque beer garden too (hopefully a drier day when we return!) and Rennington itself a smashing spot for a leg stretch post-meal too. Ace!

We tried to book online but weren’t successful, so we decided to walk in—and luckily, we got a table for two. The table was reserved later for 5 PM, so the timing worked out perfectly. My husband had the Sunday roast beef, and I ordered the sea bass. We both really enjoyed our meals! We’ll definitely be back to try other dishes. The service was excellent. Even though it was busy when we arrived, a friendly staff member from the bar accommodated us and even took our order himself. The manager was lovely as well—she came over for a nice chat with us. A great experience overall!

Me and my wife stayed here Friday night and what a fantastic place it is. We were shown to our room which is stunning and beautifully decorated and clean. We enjoyed drinks in the bar before having a meal which was delicious. All the staff including William at the bar really made our stay. This place is perfectly located and a pure gem. Thank you from Mark and gayle.

Stopped by for a drink on a Saturday and decided to eat on the Sunday evening. Good menu, local produce, generous servings - next level up on most pubs. Great value. Friendly, quick service. Always busy, so booking advised.

Tried here for a Sunday roast and was not disappointed. Food was delicious and plentiful. My husband tried the burger which was really nice. His chips looked anemic but tasted light and fluffy, delicious. Prices were cheaper than the likes of Bamburgh so great value for money. Service was good and friendly. We will be back. Would highly recommend

Lovely rural inn with delicious, beautiful, well cooked food from local sources. Staff are very friendly and fantastically helpful. Compliments to the chefs on the day as our roast dinners and desserts were lovely and my husband really enjoyed his Pagan Queen pint. (Apt as we were celebrating our handfasting anniversary). Can only say if you are looking for good service, delicious food and a nice atmosphere then try The Black Bull Inn. Prices were on point too. Thank you.

An absolute must visit. Came for the first time today and found our new favourite cafe - Came with all the family and all of us were blown away with how amazing it was here. I had the corned beef pie with a latte, and took a couple of cakes and scones home with us. Very generous portion sizes and delicious food. Had lots of different things to choose from and never seen such a variety of scones. Bit of a treck for us but will 100% be back. Keep up the hard work.

I went for coffee and a scone (huge and delicious scones ) and came back later for lunch because the menu is so good. The French onion soup with cheesy toast was superb, goats cheese toasted sandwich with it also excellent. First class service and very helpful staff, knowledgeable about in ingredients. The building has loads of character and the toilet is spotless with a range of handwash and hand creams. My dogs loved it too, they got free bacon. Definitely my favourite place to eat in Alnwick, always come here when I visit. Highly recommended.

The restaurant within the establishment, known as The Treehouse Restaurant, provides a unique dining experience set within the world's largest treehouse at Alnwick Garden. The Market Tavern serves a variety of dishes suitable for solo travelers, couples, families, and large groups.
The team at the Market Tavern really made the effort to accommodate our party, which was not easy, and I am so grateful. We were five adults, two children and a dog, and we turned up without a reservation. They were almost fully booked, but they did some careful shuffling of bookings and seatings, and managed to squeeze us in, which felt like a work of magic. Following on from that auspicious start, everything was fantastic. The food was great quality, generous portions and very reasonably priced, the service was friendly and responsive and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommend!

Stopped in at The Market Tavern in Alnwick with my partner and we both went for the fish and chips — honestly, some of the best I’ve ever had. The batter was light and crispy, the fish perfectly cooked, and the portions were really generous. Lovely, cosy atmosphere too with friendly service that made us feel right at home. Couldn’t have asked for a better pub meal!

An excellent experience for Sunday Roast. Our B&B host recommended it and it was very good information. We love a traditional Sunday Roast and this delivered mightily. The signature roast beef, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were amazing. The local beers and wines selection was excellent. A great dining experience.

Really nice atmosphere and enthusiastic staff. Definitely worth booking as it was quite busy on a Thursday night. Food was lovely with a decent selection of vegetarian options. The onion rings in particular was delicious. Would be nice if the cheeseboard was more local cheeses but it was nice either way.

Lovely spot in the centre of Alnwick — great food and service! We dropped into the Market Tavern for lunch yesterday and today, and we really enjoyed ourselves. The place has a proper welcoming pub feel — warm, relaxed and friendly without being noisy. I had the chicken in the basket main while my partner went for the chili con carne, and both dishes were spot on. The chicken was tender with a crisp skin and nicely seasoned, and the chili had that slow-cooked depth with just enough spice to keep things interesting. Service was quick and cheerful too, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to have you there. Prices were fair for the quality, and portions were generous without going overboard. A great choice if you want proper pub food done well in Alnwick. Would happily come back next time we’re in town.

We went here because one of our party is vegetarian. The menu selection was very good and varied. However, when the food arrived, the seafood linguine was exceptional, really really tasty! Really comfortable inn, friendly helpful staff. Accommodated us with our dirty bikes, showed us a hosepipe and a place to store them. The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. The pub is characterful and the food and beer are good. Service is excellent. Dinner was filling and tasty. Breakfast was also good. Packed lunches are supplied at extra cost.

Superb food. Lamb melted in our mouths. Desserts perfect. Staff friendly, engaging and efficient. Enjoyed it so much we were the last to leave! Food intolerance accepted kindly. Large range of gins & whiskeys. Lots to look at on the walls and spark discussions (therefore great place for a first date?!). Chefs are 5*, one of which is the owner who is accommodating and friendly. If this pub was local to me, I wouldn’t tell you about it because I’d want to keep it all to myself!

Cant comment on the rooms as we didn't stay overnight. We came in to eat, after a long walk. Party of 6, 3 adults and 3 children. The Food was lovely, prices appropriate for pubs in similar areas, staff were friendly and accommodating. The place is welcoming, very cute and quaint. The Oxford cheeks were to die for ... as well as the steak.

We stayed one night, over all it was nice, room a bit small but lovely and clean. Bed very comfortable. Please get a new bell for the bar as we waited a while when we got there to check in as it wasn't very loud and I had to shout through hello!! 😊 We had evening meal which was lovely my husband had the ox cheeks which he said were delicious, I had the butter chicken which was lovely, really tasty and it's not badly priced. I think my only two critisms are that if you are staying there, there's literally nothing to do, it's very food focused which is nice as it's lovely inside but it needs something, a TV, a pool table, chess board or playing cards. Just something as we like to have a few drinks after a meal and socialise together. Also I'm sorry to say but some not all staff make little attempt to interact with you apart from what do you want basically, one In particular I believe she may have been called Monica although I may be wrong (dark hair all in white) was quite rude, condescending and personally appeared to pick on another lovely member of staff called Alice. when we had an issue with one drink that needed changing after one sip, she made out like we were wrong, the manager I think Annabel who was lovely and interacted with people checked it said it was the syrup and replace it,once sorted she then told said person just to apologise and give the new drink, however she decide to ask my husband in a condescending manner "would you like to taste it first SIR" and stood there with an attitude while he took a drink making us feel uncomfortable, Now I'm sorry I work in this industry first of all it wasn't her fault as you don't know the syrup is off until someone returns a drink so we weren't complaint we just needed it rectified, secondly you certainly don't imply that the customer is lying and thirdly the attitude she had towards customers was just off and towards the young girl Alice to the point I turned to my husband and commented that she was picking on her. Very rude and abrupt with her. And if your customers notice this then is something that needs addressed. However the owners are lovely and I believe one is the chef, hats off to him very nice.

Walking in the area and dropped in for a beer. We have a dog and they are not allowed in , so we sat outside. The pub was immaculate and very cosy. The bar staff very welcoming and It was busy for eaters. Pity about the dog rule, however, dogs in pubs aren't to everyones liking.

Really enjoyed eating at the Pheasant Inn tonight. They squeezed us in at very short notice, food was delicious and the service was brilliant. The staff were all friendly and helpful and honestly went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after. Stayed here for a cycle touring trip along the Borderers route. Rooms are lovely, staff are friendly, dinner looked great but I was a bit exhausted when I got there. Breakfast was exactly what I needed when I woke up. The man who checked me in and showed me to my room offered to store my bike in their cycle storage. I had already locked it up outside, but it's always much appreciated to have the option of locking in a shed. Would definitely stay again!

This is a fantastic find. In a small village the staff obviously work very hard to make this pub a great place to eat and drink. It always seems busy and has a buzz which is testament to them. The food is brilliant, I've had the the steak and it is tender and tasty. We had five of the pizzas with my daughter's family and we loved them. All this with some great local beers on tap and lovely staff.

We didn’t stay here, just ate here. Food was amazing. Beautiful pizza and the best homemade chips I’ve had for a long time. The only negative was asking customers to keep a hold of their dirty cutlery to use again if having more than one course. Please invest in some more cutlery so not to cheapen an amazing place.

We were out for a drive today when we came across this lovely pub. Stopped off for lunch and a beer. So pleased we did. The food is amazing. We both chose the salmon risotto. Wow. It was fantastic. The salmon beautifully fresh and perfectly cooked. The amount of risotto with prawns, huge portion. The rest of the menu looked good as well. We will return to sample what other delights are available. Five stars without a doubt. The whole place is well kept. Nice seating area outside and a handy shop attached. Friendly and welcoming .

Buzzing basement vibes and cocktails with flair—book ahead. Atmosphere: Underground speakeasy feel with low lighting and a mixture of groups and couples chatting. Service: Efficient despite the crowd. Staff kept pace with table service as we finished each round. Drinks: Tried four cocktails—standout was the Voodoo Zombie, served in a glass that looked like a cursed artefact. The Twist of Fate margarita spin added some variety. Tip: Book ahead—walk-ins some found a space but others lost out to booked guests.

Great espresso Martini. Had a couple of other variations on classic cocktails and they missed the mark a little for me but just personal taste. The service was lovely.

We were recommended by another bar - the continental. It was so strange just tucked right out the way in the cloth market, down in the basement. This place is table service and right from the start we really enjoyed it. We were sat and a jug of water for the table was provided which I think is a nice touch. The music was fantastic, and really set the mood of the whole place, playing original R n B and rap. The place kind of had a jazz vibe with the small round tables, architecture and low ceilings. As there were so many cocktails to choose from we asked for recommendations and we went for a sours which was delicious. We also played the can't decide random choice thing which was really cool too. The bar staff were super friendly and very helpful and we really enjoyed our night.

An independent camra award winning pub with a heart! A great selection of local ales with 8-9 different taps, I particularly loved the two by two. It's beaming with conviviality, people are here to drink together, if there are spare seats at your table they are free to anyone, makes for an intimate warm atmosphere. The best of the area is showcased here, people are so friendly. Definitely the best pub in Alnwick! No food served but we grabbed a pie to go just so we could come back here.

Wandered in whilst strolling around alnwick and were really pleasantly surprised by the warm welcoming atmosphere. We tried a few of the local ales and the bar staff were helpful in recommending which ones to try according to our preferences. We managed to get a seat, the bar isn't very big but we invited another couple over to share the table as it seemed like others were doing similar. Great atmosphere would have liked it to be my local!

Wow. PTMY never seems to disappoint. The food is outstanding, service incredible and so attentive. These pictures say it all. Highly recommend we will be back!

Very trendy busy rustic restaurant with attached cool bar. Popped in December enjoyed a drink from huge gin menu and booked Valtentines after spotting restaurant and food being served. Scallops, arincini 5/5, Chateaubriand looked amazing cooked perfect but went cold quick unsure if the board or just every time door opened rush of air hit our area. Manager and staff great and attentive drinks slightly slow but manager chased up. Definitely go back but sit in upper area away from door. Thanks guys.

The toast with the mushrooms was a huge sized portion. The mushroom flavor was creamy and bold. I had the sirloin as the main course and it was paired with red wine. The Black truffle butter sauce was unique and it complimented the steak. The chips were not super starchy, and the crispy texture had you reaching for the next one. The waitresses knew the menu, as I had questions about what to order. Oh and they were friendly.

Great Sunday family early dinner, had Sunday lunch menu. Food was great as well as service. Nice, suitably quiet atmosphere despite being busy, easy to have a conversation. We came with kids, they were also really well catered for. One wheelchair user in our group, the restaurant is nice and spacious, it was easy to move around. There is one section level with the entry (where we were seated) and another section up 2 steps.

Hazel has been absolutely brilliant. Attentive to details but not overstepping. Food was delicious, we chose to go for a rib eye and a fillet steak, both cooked perfectly and accompanied by a lovely red wine. All in all, a great evening. Definitely “pleased to meet you”. Thank you, Hazel, for looking after us

Nestled in the heart of the village, The Hermitage Inn is a delightful 18th-century pub that exudes charm with its rustic decor and lively atmosphere. Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi in cozy rooms or relax outside in the sun-trapped seating area while soaking up the local ambiance.
Had an overnight stop here last Friday whilst walking the Northumberland coast path. The landlord was welcoming and friendly, the room was spotless and comfortable, and as we decided to eat in the pub that evening we sampled both the vegan and non vegan menus. Food was delicious and well priced for what it was. Will definitely return next time we're in The area

I stayed one night while walking St Oswald's trail. Good price for a fair sized room including a good breakfast. 5 minutes walk downhill from Northumberland's best castle. Very friendly staff. Had scampi for dinner with chips and mushy peas. Was really nice. Would definitely come back.

Food is always delicious every time we visit. So reasonably priced and the staff are always lovely with a warm welcome. Sunday carverys are absolutely delicious. Even the puppy enjoyed himself getting spoiled off the staff members.

The atmosphere was amazing with the lights and the TV on and everyone laughing and talking and the service wow! The workers WERE the atmosphere! They were so friendly and funny to talk to! Me and my family had such a good time! DEFINITELY recommend 💗

After visiting Warkworth Castle, there’s not muck to see or do in Warkworth and after walking down the main street, I had given up and was about to head home when I found this pub with a sign in the window saying they welcome “muddy paws”. So on I went with my little doggy Taylor Swift the Westie who sat at my feet as I waited for my scampi and chips. It did take quite a while and I was just about to ask had they forgotten about me when the food arrived and it was hearty and delicious. Tis a rare jewel, a food establishment that accepts doggies.

We’ve been a couple of times now and it’s always such a great experience. The guy behind the bar is incredibly friendly and welcoming. But what really blew us away this time was the food. We only had the cheese scones and the cheese & bacon scones, but oh my god – they were absolutely outstanding. Fresh, warm, packed with flavour, and genuinely some of the best we’ve ever tasted.

The Hog's Head Inn is a modern hotel with casual rooms and traditional pub cuisine, offering free breakfast and Wi-Fi. The inn features a wide range of meal options, including the best carvery in Alnwick on Sundays. It is named after the fictional pub in Hogsmeade from Harry Potter, making it a must-visit for Potter fans. The family and dog-friendly inn offers unfussy rooms, including twin, family, and accessible options.
We booked this place as it is very accessible to where we are attending a wedding. At the entrance, there were different brochures of attractions in the area that are good to visit. The room was big, cozy, clean, and had a nice view from our window. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was fine. I ordered the crispy pork, though it tasted good, I was expecting it to be crispy, but it wasn't. It's more like it was cooked in marination rather than deep-fried to make it crispy. Nevertheless, the staff were accommodating, especially the gentleman who served our food (I didn't catch his name), as well as the lady named Liv, who took our orders and helped us to print a document needed for the wedding the following day. Overall, our stay here so far is amazing, and I can't wait for the free breakfast included in all their room rates.
Jose M — Google review
As a family of 5 its always hard to find a hotel which will accommodate us in 1 room but the Hogs Head was brilliant. We had a very large family room with room for 6 and everything you need. Tea and Coffee facilities with some nice biscuits. Iron, ironing board and even a safe. The room was clean and modern. Then there was the breakfast which was included in the price. This was a nice buffet style breakfast with everything you want. The bar is great with plenty of drinks to chose from and lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Conveniently located at the side of the a1 on the way in to Alnwick the Hogs Head is a modern building with ample parking. Very pleasant staff on arrival. I was dining alone and I did not feel uncomfortable. I had a very nice sausage and mash and cabbage which was delicious Around £15 so quite good value. This establishment has rooms so I might give them a try next time I'm in the area.

Just got back from a one-night stay and I can’t stop raving about it! The room was spotless, perfectly warm, and the bathroom was just lovely. I enjoyed two meals at the restaurant, and the food and service were top-notch. The team really made me feel welcome from check-in to the end of my stay. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this gem!
Dave G — Google review
Visited for drinks over a year ago before a friend's wedding, and went back when we needed to travel to Alnwick. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We visited during a muggy summer and the room was cool despite no air-con - they did provide a fan, but we barely need to use it. Perks of a stone building. The bed was so comfortable we both slept straight through. The bathroom was cosy, but the shower was nice and powerful. We had dinner, and I'd recommend booking a table when you book your room, as they are always busy - for good reason. Unfortunately some of the menu was unavailable, but the food was incredible, as was the service, and the drinks were really good too. Breakfast was another level entirely, being so closer to the border, you can enjoy the best of English and Scottish breakfasts, proper food to set you up right for the day. If you're ever going through Alnwick, definitely make a stop at The Hog's Head Inn, you won't be disappointed.
Rachel B — Google review
A sour start to my stay here. They cancelled my booking then had me stood at reception 20 minutes whilst they tried to work out where to put me. Then they had the cheek to tell me they'd need me to change rooms part way through my stay. I declined as I was working nights and they expected me to wake up to change rooms. The food was forgettable. The rooms are a good size, but basic. Tiny non smart tv, no air con, no fridge, no gym, no pool. Most staff seemed nice, I think the reservation people cancelled it, not the hotel staff. The phone at check in is so quiet that staff can't hear it, had it worked they would have known I was running late and maybe avoided all the aggro they caused.
Ben C — Google review
Very good value for a really lovely and massive room, extremely clean and quiet. Dinner was exceptional quality and again very reasonable price wise. Looking forward to returning and gutted it’s only one night.

I can not praise the Hoggs Head Inn highly enough. We are staying for a long weekend to explore the county, great location. The room has all you need and is very comfortable. The restaurant is very pleasant and the staff are busy, maybe a little under staffed, but friendly and nothing is a bother. The food is very generous, tasty and a menu that is above the ordinary. Well done 👏 ✔️

Brilliant place. We are a party of fisherman that visit Amble every year. We usually book closer to town. We also don't pay for expensive places. Well you get what you pay for they say. Big rooms that were spotless. Fantastic meal in evening. Secure place and friendly staff. The breakfast was amazing and the place is dog friendly. We are coming back next year. We stayed for 4 nights at the Amble Inn in Morpeth and had a really lovely time. The hotel was a lovely place to stay with friendly helpful staff that kept on smiling even when extremely busy. The breakfast menu was outstanding with every breakfast need catered for, we enjoyed an energy boosting full cooked breakfast every morning before our days of adventure began. All the things we wanted to visit were all within 20 miles of the hotel, such as Seahouses, Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and Barter books and more. We got lost once because of a road closure but we enjoyed trying to find our way around on the enchanting country roads, the scenery is beautiful. In the end we were sad to leave which tells me that we had a very good holiday and a holiday that we will repeat at some point in the near future.

Specifically chose The Inn Collection hotel because we knew it was wheelchair accessible. (We stayed in Blyth last year.) Bathroom and toilets were accessible. Good location to use as a base to visit other places. As you can tell on maps, not in a particularly scenic location. However, their outdoor area is pleasant. Comfortable room. Enjoyed our breakfast- self-service. Good coffee. Good music. Would recommend and will be staying in another Inn Collection next year.

It's a very nice pub! The food was excellent and the staff were polite and friendly. Service was prompt and it all came at good value for money. It's a fairly new build, but it has a lovely cosy feeling to it. We would definitely recommend it.
Marc B — Google review
Pleasant environment and front of house staff were friendly enough. The allergy menu was easy to find and user friendly, however I really struggled to find much that was dairy free. I tried to have Korean Venison Ribs but they had run out so I just went with a vegan burger. It was easily the worst thing I've been served in a long time. The bun was wet underneath and at the same time completely solid (couldn't even get a fork in). I ended up taking the burger out and eating it on its own with the chips. The chips at least we're quite nice. Noone asked whether the food had been ok. I wondered if that was because they already knew it wasn't. Anyway what my friend and I really wanted was somewhere to sit and chat which we did and had a good laugh. We both agreed we would go back for a drink but wouldn't eat there again.
Hannah S — Google review
We have stayed here 3 times now but this is the first time we have booked an adaptive room due to my husband having his leg amputated earlier this year. We really like this place but, unfortunately, the 'wet room' was unable to be used by my husband as, due to the wrong camber on the floor, the water never fully drained away leaving the floor too risky for my husband to risk having a shower. He managed to get to the toilet and sink ( very small with no plug!) in his wheelchair, but never risked a shower. Apart from that the stay was, as always very enjoyable, especially as we could get to the microbrewery down the road ( opens at 4pm, very busy, great place). We will be back to the Amble but I won't bother booking an adaptive room again.

Music night Saturday and we had a couple of Pizzas that defeated us. Should have just had the one. The Porter on tap was excellent and owner super friendly and saved us a table. Dog friendly with lots of dogs there. The place was very busy and vibrant with locals. Great to be in a pub doing well. Would recommend, the food is not haute cuisine but sturdy pub grub.

Nice friendly welcome, nice drinks but both of us had fish and chips. The chips were greasy, fish were small and peas like bullets served on cold plates. We didn't enjoy the food at all and won't be back to eat. Ok for a drink but that's it.

After stopping at a few places on the way back from from a trip to Holy Island and being told, sorry no capacity fully booked. We called The Black Swan and the staff made an effort to get us a table. Pub and staff was very friendly, good northern atmosphere inside. Child and pet friendly with great food. Steak pie with black pudding was delicious, both kids had clean plates, the burger was huge, and the Missus paid!! (Must have been reasonable) A great old traditional Pub. Highly recommended

What a great night, we popped in here after the waiter at limoncello recommended. We enjoyed a few drinks. My friends and I had great laugh when they bring out the big red button when you buy a drink to generate 1. If you get 10% off 2. If you get it for free 3. You have to pay. Well we got 10% off then the next we got a free round, what a great laugh. Staff were so friendly hi fives all round when we got our free round. Simple customer service bonus. Keep up the good work. The only reason not five stars is the toilet just me being picky I think. 👊

Corbridge was absolutely full - nowhere to park, so couldn't stop where we wanted to. Drove just outside and found this place. Very friendly staff, simple meal of scampi and chips - frankly the best cooked scampi I've ever had in a pub. Tapped again and tried to get the bar maids attention, as no one came back to me I took my drink outside. Manager then came and told me my drink had not been paid for. I told him I'm shouted for the barmaid. He said shouting "at" staff is no way to get served. I tried to explain that I didn't shout at her but for her to check. He accused me of being aggressive. It was lovely sitting outside in the sunshine with a lovely drink. Excellent prices. Only shame was the number of smokers in the same space

My server Tori was kind, attentive and gave 110% service. She check on me a few times to make sure I was enjoying the food and service, I’ll come back again and hopefully she’ll be serving me! Atmosphere is really nice, it was a bit quieter than the other pubs in the area but I was very happy about that! Pub was clean and looked after and the food was good, would recommend here!

This is a great little pub in Cramlington village. It has a large outdoor seating area at the front of the pub which is ideal for breakfast. The breakfasts are very reasonably priced and delicious. There is a massive beer garden at the rear which often has live entertainment. I would highly recommend this pub.

At night, the atmosphere transforms into a lively and vibrant bar where patrons can enjoy an impressive selection of cocktails at great value. The friendly staff and well-mixed drinks make for an enjoyable experience. Additionally, live music on Fridays adds to the appeal of this popular spot in Hexham.
241 cocktails are unbelievable value! Two for £10.95 and there’s a large selection to choose from! Well mixed and presented and the gent behind the bar was really friendly and welcoming (27.07.23)! Definitely worth a visit if you’re out for a drink!

Quite a quirky little cocktail bar. Visually, looked like something you might find in the 1980s American Mid-West. Lots of high stools around tables, a little leather sofa in the corner. Didn't try the cocktails but the menu was impressive! Staff were lovely and accommodating. Very relaxed atmosphere, and the Hexham local clientele were both harmless and self-contained. The smell of smoking from outside did creep in through the door, so sit at the back if this concerns you.

Pub
Popped in late one night atmosphere is great. Friendly staff indeed, knowledgeable on everything in his bar where things came from e.g. a programme that took 3yrs to get back to the bar after being round the world getting signed by players! Do not miss this lovely gem.Prices are reasonable too.

Good selection of drinks. Live music, pool table in a back room.

A decent pub. Seemed busy and lively, the staff were friendly. Several big TV screens showing sports. Some "pub grub" available, not a huge choice of beers, but good enough. Also a pool table and a dart board. They seem to like their Newcastle teams, and have a load of Beetles themed musical instruments on the wall...

Wine bar
Flinders is a relatively new venue that has been receiving exceptional ratings and positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Visitors have praised the relaxed and cozy atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, as well as the good selection of drinks. The bar is also known for its delicious cheese board and welcoming attitude towards dogs, providing treats and water for them. It's described as an absolute gem with excellent hospitality, making visitors feel like they are visiting a friend's house.
Wow - what a place! Was so glad to try here and it was certainly not disappointing. The service was very welcoming and friendly (and incredibly dog friendly). The cheese board was brilliant and has possibly ruined all future cheese boards for me as I don’t think it can be matched! We didn’t have much to drink but the menu looked comprehensive. Beers, spirits and soft drinks were available, as well as wine. I’d definitely recommend a visit here.

Stunning little palace 😍 fine wines and the cheese board charcuterie was fabulous. Well worth a look see if your in town 😉 👌 great service, this place is recommended by many I suspect. Many thanks to the owner great place you have very good indeed 👍 Darren & Andrea

Stumbled upon this place wandering around Berwick & so glad we did. The waitress was amazing, very friendly but her knowledge of all the wines was great. She gave us a couple to taste, not on the wine list, but after talking to us thought we would like& we did! We also had the cheese, bread & charcuterie board which was delicious. Again her knowledge of the cheeses & breads was very good. And of course most importantly our dog had water & treats delivered as soon as we sat down. If you're looking to diversify Mr Flinders I can recommend a large village in Nottinghamshire where you would be very welcome 🤪🍷🤪🥂

Always enjoy sampling the great range of wines although i have latched onto a particular red. Great place for a chat and meet up with freinds. Looking forward to the introduction of the platters.

Delightful local wine bar with an amazing selection of wines, great snacks, board games on every table, and wonderfully dog friendly. Strongly recommend a visit!

This is the least pretentious wine bar I have ever visited. The hosts were wonderful and really knowledgeable about wine without being even slightly stuck up about it. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Great prices on spirits. Lovely selection of real ale. Great Beer garden overlooking the river. Very busy bar filled with locals and dogs. Lovely separate lounge with double doors onto a beer garden. No loud music. Old music videos on tvs but not turned up loud (good!) monthly live music on Sunday afternoons.

Went for a wake in the function room, nice size and a cosy place. Be careful parking in the cul-de-sac outside it's residents only and I got a fine. Not the pubs fault in any way.

Fantastic pub. Great selection of real ale and single malt. Very dog friendly, lovely bar staff. We went there to meet friends, the pub is their local, and we had a really great time. Would definitely recommend.

Had a few drinks on a Monday so wasn't busy. Really nice setup with outdoor space, nice 'posh' end and very pleasant bar area. Good selection of cask ales, the several I tried were all spot on. There's also a many keg beers on offer too. Both afternoon and evening staff were great so all in all a good day was had.
