The Saracens Head Inn is a charming B&B located by the river, offering comfortable rooms with picturesque water views. Guests can enjoy a delicious hot breakfast and locally sourced dining options. The inn provides an ideal base for exploring the natural beauty of Symonds Yat, including opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding along the River Wye.
Situated overlooking the river Rye with lovely views from the bar terrace. Access is via a single bridge and winding road, on which we encountered some deer on our journey back to the hotel on our first evening. We were warmly welcomed by all the staff, from reception, to bar and restaurant staff and cleaners. The (standard twin) room was compact but modern and simply decorated to high quality. Bathroom was nicely decorated with spacious shower and much appreciated fluffy towels. Everything was spotlessly clean. I mean really really clean! Good quality bedding and no noise from adjoining rooms helped make for a good nights sleep. Breakfast staff were great, prompt and friendly service. Breakfast was delicious; especially the bacon and poached eggs. Highly recommend the hotel and food. Many guests said they would definitely be returning.

I stayed here with my girlfriends for birthday celebrations and we had such a lovely time. We ate dinner on the Friday and Saturday in the restaurant and the food was delicious especially the burgers. Breakfast was delicious, I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon both days. The rooms were lovely. I think my only criticism was how hot my room was. We had to sleep with the patio doors open 😬 The staff were lovely and very accomodating. Perfect location 👌
Lynne S — Google review
Great location to spend a few days. Very busy in high season, but the staff was amazing and looked after us. Generous freshly cooked breakfast. Our room looked over the river. Noisy because of the many day-trip tourists but all quiet around 21.30 h. The river and its surroundings are beautiful. Many nice places to visit. Or just walk around the neighbourhood. It was our second time visiting Symonds Yat. We might go there again.
Wendi P — Google review
Just drove here for a pint. Location great BUT be warned you have to pay £5 to park for anything up to 4 hours, customers included!!! Husband went in to check that signage was right and say we just wanted one quick drink. He was told car park still had to be paid, even though it clearly wasn’t busy. It was a fair and narrow drive, out of our way, so think it’s worth warning others if you’re considering a pm pint. Now other side of river in Ye Old Ferry Inn, far more welcoming and lots of free parking, quite rightly, for customers - go there!
Zoe A — Google review
Excellent pub food. We called in after visiting Symonds Yat Rock, and were impressed with the quality of food and service. Only a small menu, but changes everyday, and had a few vegetarian options to choose from. The vegetarian mushroom burger was one of the best we'd ever tasted, and the chips were excellent.
Matthew W — Google review
We dropped in for dinner after a canoe trip down The Wye. The setting is beautiful and a great spot for a drink. However, £22 for a very average burger and chips is ridiculous. Being a bank holiday Sunday we didn't really have much of an option but to suck it up and pay the price. Had the prices been more reasonable we probably would have stuck around and had dessert and possibly a few more drinks. There was also a £5 charge for the car park, as you can only pay for the whole day, not necessarily the fault of the pub. In the end we ate and left, not feeling like we'd had good value for money.
James H — Google review
Not our first visit, such a great location right on the river. Had a lovely river walk and then stopped here for lunch just managing to grab the last outside table. Sadly the food wasn’t very good on this occasion although it came very quickly. I had the smashed burger but it was overcooked and also not very smashed. The Missus had the squid which was very greasy. Our friends had chicken and bacon sandwiches which looked a safer option. Will still come back if walking along the Wye just for the lovely ambience and views
Robert C — Google review
came in for dinner, we booked in advance (as we had our dog with us and that was advised on the website) and came in right around 6 when they started serving food at 6. food came really quick and was all really delicious, amazing quality and clearly super fresh. Also ordered some ice cream/pudding which, again, was lovely. A couple things to note: was quite expensive as pubs go, and not all the serving sizes were very generous. + there was a sign directing you to a bar to order food at, but we had a couple of confused waiters come to us and ask if we’d ordered, please pick one! order at table or at bar.

British restaurant
The Ostrich Inn is a delightful and historic pub located in the picturesque village of Newland, surrounded by the stunning Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Dating back to the 13th century, this charming establishment has a rich history, having originally housed workers involved in building the nearby medieval church. Today, it prides itself on offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere, an impressive selection of real ales, and most notably, delicious food.
Ok so this place is a proper 5 star pub - we were in town locally for the night and this was ticking all the boxes. Went and was blown away by a quintessential British pub. Phoned ahead to book and got a fab table. Delicious food on offer and more importantly plenty of cask ale. Had a lovely conversation with people at the pub. Keen to come back
Peter F — Google review
A nice old boozer. Butty Bach was well kept, the garden was charming with rickety pub furniture on stepped levels up the slope. What I saw of the food didn't look unpleasant in any way but didn't ... give it a go. Dog friendly and easy going atmosphere.
James B — Google review
Found this amazing pub in a village called Newland just off the main road to Monmouth. The food, service and atmosphere were great. It was a Fish Friday so we had Whitebait, S&P Squid and Moules Frites and the staff were really nice. The garden out back is lush too but parking a bit limited in the village.
Darrin D — Google review
Brilliant food & perfect for dietary needs We loved this place so much we went back twice! The food quality genuinely impressed us - restaurant-standard dishes that far exceed typical pub fare. As dairy-free and gluten-free diners, we felt completely at ease. The chef's knowledge and willingness to accommodate was outstanding, and we never felt like a burden - crucial when you have food intolerances. The daily specials were exceptional, showing real thought and skill. My husband was thrilled to discover gluten-free IPA on tap - a rare find that shows they truly care about all customers. Make sure to book, especially on the weekend! Very popular and you can book online. Dog-friendly too, making this a winner all round. Highly recommended for quality food with genuine care for dietary needs.

Lovely pub, great food and great beer. If you like Moules Frites you’ll love the Moules Frites here!
Phil H — Google review
What a great little country pub the Ostrich is. Doesnt look much from the outside but highly recommended. The sunday roast we had was lovely, actually forgot to take photos this time 🙈. The service and bar staff were friendly and helpful. I would have given 5 stars, the lack of parking makes it awkward but it is in a small village with tight roads. Id say visit for food or a drink and help keep these locals going. The church across the road is also worth a visit and look inside, its beautiful.
Roger B — Google review
Great little pub with friendly staff, great food and I am a big fan of the wye valley brewery ‘HopFather’ 👍👍 We spent the weekend in Newland with friends and ate here twice. Really recommend to anyone travelling in the area. Good job Ostrich Inn.

A lovely, genuine pub feel. A bustling bar, and tables with eaters by the open log fire. Lovely proper pub grub, large beer garden…..although up a flight of stairs for access. If I’m passing again, I’ll ll be in again for some food and drink.

With its rustic stone-walled rooms, it serves up hearty British meals and delectable desserts, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring the stunning surroundings.
Food were well priced and pretty decent. The portion of mash for the pie 🥧 could've been a little more generous. Otherwise, couldn't really fault. The fish was out of this world! So fresh and crisp! Extremely dog friendly and they accommodated our needy boys amazingly!!

Popped in here for the wife's birthday. We had booked in advance but when we arrived they could find our booking, they where very apologetic and found us a table. Food was great the calamari was amazing. Glad we went. Overall a great experience, only let down by the booking mistake.

Stopped in on the off chance of a Sunday dinner. Great service, very welcoming. Food was amazing for a good price. Atmosphere was great, football on the TV but not to rowdy. Deffinalty visiting again.

Very nice Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price. Good service and helpful staff. I had the Farmyard choice which includes all the meat options, great to! Veg comes in a separate dish. Very busy at lunchtime so glad we booked. Would definitely recommend.

We are from Cardiff and staying near by, we happen to find this pub, glad we did. Greeted at the door, the food was amazing, especially the pizza, my partner really enjoyed it, he wanted more. Overall we had a lovely time with great food and great service. We would definitely come back if we lived closer.

Had a great experience at The Woodman! I ordered the Big Stuff Pizza and it was absolutely delicious – generous toppings, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. Definitely one of the best pub pizzas I’ve had in a while. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the barman was lovely – friendly, attentive, and made the whole visit even better. Great service really makes a difference, and he nailed it. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving good pizza and a relaxed pub vibe!

After not booking soon enough at another local.. got booked in here instead, sadly the food was very 2nd par, if your happy with it fried burger and micro convenience meal this is your place…. Shame as the feel when you enter was very accommodating , nice staff but didn’t seem much care for quality from owner 😔

We had a lovely meal last night at the moody cow! We booked last minute and they managed to fit us in on their outdoor table which was heated by the fire and was surprisingly warm! The service was great and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be returning!

We came for Sunday lunch which turned out to be one of the best we'd had in recent memory. Starters were excellent and the deserts were almost dangerous in how good they were.... Staff were professional, polite and very helpful. The building is full of quirky touches. 5 stars isn't justice

This establishment is quite simply superb. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in safe hands. Chris, the owner runs through the menu with an exemplary mix of knowledge and passion. The quality of the food was some of the very best we’ve ever tasted. The waiting team were all friendly efficient and added to the whole experience. It’s a long time since we have been so pleasantly surprised at a dining pub this good. Chris deserves every accolade there is.

My wife and I had a fantastic meal at The Moody Cow for our wedding anniversary and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The food was outstanding, the service was friendly and the pub itself has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. We also had a great chat with Chris, the proprietor, who clearly cares deeply about the place. It really shows in everything from the menu to the decor and overall vibe. You can tell it's in good hands. A proper gem of a pub and one we'd happily recommend to anyone.

An absolute gem and a must if you're in the area. Probably the best food we've had in a very long time with fantastic service. Wish we lived closer but a 4 hour drive might be pushing it. 10/10

Such a lovely pub! Came for my friends 21st and would have given 5 stars on the food alone but with the added extras they deserve more!! Custom cocktails as per request and attentive staff overall. Food surpassed expectations and decorations are amazing. Overall atmosphere is perfect paired with the food served. Just a great pub!

staff very friendly and welcoming. it was a busy saturday lunchtime but easy to get served at the table or at the bar. went for the steak frites lunch deal which was flavourful and a good price. i wanted it medium but the waiter explained it was as it comes… but steak still had a nice pink hue 😝🥩 would happily come again for lunch with family and friends.

A fantastic experience all round. Very cool and tidy interior with a good vibe, friendly knowledgeable service and great beer + food. I had the Nebula NEIPA and a single cheeseburger and it was all fantastic, especially for the pricing. Even bought one of their 5L kegs to take back with me! Would definitely come again if I were local

Large U shaped room with wooden floors throughout. Usual tap beers and a few real ales available. Camra discount available. Wheelchair and dog friendly too. Nice clean and tidy place. Staff were friendly and polite. Overlooking the canal with a patio area at the front. Beer was good. Enjoyed my visit.

I had the roast beef which was really nice, the only thing I would say it was not boiling hot on serving but that didn't take away how good it tasted. There was only one lady serving tables which meant we did have a little wait for food. Overall good and I would definitely go back.again.
Mel C — Google review
Every time we come here it’s always amazing service from both front of house and kitchen. On both occasions Bernie serves us and she goes above and beyond to make sure we get our order right and offers us options when we are indecisive. Also, the chef Connor makes sure our food gets the little changes that we want and it’s always delicious. Thank you very much both of you for making us feel so welcome.
Larisa I — Google review
Really good experience. Staff couldn't do enough to help, and we went just to get a roast on a Sunday and so wasn't expecting too much, but the food was great, great value for what you got. My child ate for free as she was under 6, which was also plenty enough of a portion. Think it will be our default place to take out of town family when we just need somewhere decent and can sit and watch the water.
Philippa T — Google review
What a lovely friendly place. This is situated on Gloucester Quays overlooking the canal. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Outside can relax and watch the water. They have music inside and outside but chilled level. Inside is really lovely decorated one table has a fire in the middle. The staff friendly and welcoming.. This place brews own beer which there is a variety of different ones. There is a variety of different drinks.. We had the roast dinner yesterday 09/07/2023 and have to say personally best roast for me in Gloucester.. They do different things on nights so if need more information worth contacting them.. Reasonably priced and worth the money. Definitely going again and would recommend..

Really great food - a cut above your standard pub grub. A friend and I met up there and had a really nice meal. The service was great, the staff very friendly and helpful. The food was reasonably priced. I live locally and I'll definitely bring the family here, they'll love it. The bar also seemed nice, it had a good atmosphere and is clearly a popular choice in the area.

All 3 courses delicious!! The Whitebait was light and crispy, the roast was wonderful and the sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I’ve had. No pictures as I scoffed it down too quickly. The bar area and garden are dog friendly and they even have a little dog menu!

The pub's ambiance is described as quintessentially forest-like, with friendly staff and delightful resident dogs adding to the experience. Best Sunday dinner meal out for a long time. I had roast pork and my husband had liver, the meals came with perfectly cooked veg and it was all served with a smile. I had tiramisu for dessert and my husband had almond and pear both were fab. Well done all 👍

Traditional British meals, but absolutely great quality! We had a peppered pork pie, and some liver and onions. Never had liver cooked that well before, spot on! The staff were super friendly, and as an added bonus there were two pub dogs walking around. Loved our visit

I don't usually say this but my whole experience here was amazing start to finish. We were staying at Forest of Dean for a week and decided to go here on a whim and it was such a good choice! Best service I have ever recieved, the staff were so lovely and friendly and you weren't waiting long at all. The food arrived hot and quickly. I had midweek roast and my husband had toad under the hole. It was all very well presented and the food tasted superb! I honestly don't have a bad word to say about it. Dessert was also lovely. The prices were cheap too for what you are getting I am so used to paying higher London prices. Another great addition was the dogs in the pub which are so friendly. I wish I had this pub where I live as I would be coming here every weekend! Thank you.

Dropped in without a reservation and ate a quick meal in the lovely garden. Food quality really good, service with a smile, and reasonable prices. Definitely going back for the roast dinner.

What an absolute gem of a place!! We went here for a birthday celebration meal and the food was beyond delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The venue was gorgeous with lovely low lighting and a couple of very well behaved dogs.

What a gem! We were staying in the local area and had been told about this restaurant but didn’t look it up first and stupidly didn’t book! It was busy, however, we weren’t turned away we were offered the garden which we took as it was a nice evening. The menus looked a little pricey but we were hungry and when the food arrived it was clear this was going to be an excellent meal. Thoughtful staff then came out to let us know that a table had become free inside as it was getting chilly so we had our main course inside. I think this was one of the best meals we have ever had at a pub. The menu was not large but this often means the food will be better and it was absolutely superb and worth every penny we paid. Portion sizes perfect. The service was second to none and they didn’t automatically slap on a service charge, but we added one of course. Atmosphere was great and staff were friendly and worked so hard. Please do book a table you won’t be disappointed.
Suzanne F — Google review
Can’t fault the service and food! We are not from the area and was looking for somewhere for 14 people to have a roast. After a google search I found The White Horse Inn and I’m so glad I did! Everybody was happy with their meals with some saying it was the best roast they have had in ages. Service was speedy and staff were great. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved The White Horse. Very friendly welcome. Small but good selection of well kept beers. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Toad under the hole being a highlight. Varied menu but definitely sticks to 'pub food' with a few twists. Everything a proper pub should be.

Pub
Ye Old Ferrie Inn is a relaxing and historic pub located on the banks of the River Wye. It offers cozy rooms and a bunkhouse for groups, as well as classic meals. The inn is perfect for a cold evening with friends, and its history makes it an interesting place to visit.
I came across this pub by l recommendation from another café that was closing when I called. I was traveling from Port Talbot and wanted somewhere for lunch about halfway to my destination. They suggested this place and I can absolutely see why! The pub itself has a very traditional feel, with friendly young staff who welcomed me right away (though they did look a little surprised when I asked for a table for one, as I was traveling for work). They seated me by a roaring fire, which was just perfect on a cold, windy, and wet day. While waiting for my meal, I could not help noticing the Sunday dinners coming out of the kitchen. They looked incredible, to the point where I almost regretted not ordering one. Instead, I had the “Doward” chicken burger, and it was outstanding. The chicken was tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly, while the chips were wonderfully crisp. The pub is in a beautiful setting by a river, which seems to make it a popular spot for hikers, cyclists, and runners. It was buzzing with activity when I arrived around 2 p.m. The crowd around the bar only added to the atmosphere. A couple of practical notes: parking is quite limited for the size of the building and the number of people it attracts. The road down to it is also very narrow, so I would not recommend trying to get there with a large caravan. On the plus side, it is both child friendly (with games to keep little ones entertained) and dog friendly, which makes it even more welcoming. Overall, a charming traditional pub in a lovely location, serving excellent food with a warm, lively atmosphere. I would definitely return.

Lovely location and lots of outside seating which was great given first nice day that week. As nice location by river we wanted to make the most of it. Had 2 x dogs with us but very disappointed to be told we had to eat indoors and then when someone else came out with their cultery etc it became apparent they were going to eat outside so left to find somewhere that catered to our needs and found an amazing alternative. Very disappointed

We had a really lovely and relaxing stay in Otters' Lodge and enjoyed food in the restaurant. Otters' Lodge is decorated beautifully, a great size for sharing and is well equipped, especially the kitchen (with generous coffee and biscuit supplies!) and clean. There are beautiful views of the river from all of the rooms. The restaurant menu has a great selection. We enjoyed a Sunday Roast, desserts and coffee, loved them all, especially the beetroot with the roast! They also sell delicious Kelsmor ice cream in tubs to take away.

My Wife and I visited the Ferry Inn Tuesday 30th sept for lunch. We were greeted and seated by the window overlooking the beautiful river Wye. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, I had Sausage and mash with Red wine with baby onions sauce, Whilst my wife enjoyed the Ploughmans lunch . All Locally sourced fresh products even down to the Gin and tonic water that my wife ordered . We cannot fault the Food it was fresh ,local and presented really well on the plate. As for the staff and waitress they were welcoming and friendly . we will be returning asap and fully recommend this lovely little jewel on the Wye. Thank you Paul & Suzanne

Great pub with superb views and food. Booking a pain as they asked for an app to be used so we phoned. We left early due to a noisy feral child but that’s not the pubs fault. Deserts were overpriced.

We did not stay in the rooms but ate here several times during our recent trip. This was the best place we ate at during our holiday. Lovely location and atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff. The steak was exceptional. Special shout out to Chloe who served us multiple times and was so friendly and welcoming. We hope to be back!

Lovely pub in great location if staying in nearby house/cottage/cabin get away! Food was really good and reasonably priced, same goes for drinks. Staff were lovely and friendly, pub super cosy with darker nights and extension looking over the river lovely place to eat 😊

Haven't stayed as yet but am seriously considering for next year. This review is concerning your food. It was absolutely fabulous. Ist class. I had the Guinea Fowl. The sauce, accompanied by the cabbage & fondant potato was delicious. The last time I had this similar type of dish was in a Michelin Star restaurant & this was definitely of the same standard. Your hazelnut chocolate brownie was also gorgeous. I told our lovely waitress to complement your chef. Also mentioning that the other eateries across the way could learn a thing or two from you! We wish we had got to you sooner. My husband had the Ox Cheeks & said that was also fantastic. So thank you and my compliments to your great staff & your wonderful chef for making the end of our holiday great. I was very impressed. See you again next year. Best wishes Davina Blake MBE

The Miners Arms is a dog-friendly pub located near the Whitecroft Station of the Dean Forest Railway. It offers reasonably priced pub classics made with locally sourced ingredients and provides a 10% discount for railway ticket holders. The food is delicious, especially the lamb shanks, and the staff are known for being super friendly. With an impressive beer garden and a rustic pub grub menu, it's an ideal stop for tourists exploring the Forest of Dean.
Lovely local pub. Tasty filling food with staff that were cheerful and they couldn’t do more to help you, even taking the initiative to help before you ask without making you feel rushed or pushed. They allow dogs in the bar and have a lovely outside area with play equipment for kids. Bathrooms were clean and functional. We were so pleased to find this place for our Sunday dinner and would happily return.

We have come to this pub with a group of friends with teenagers. Chose to sit outside, it was a pleasant evening and we decided to have a dinner sitting outside. Good selection of drinks, food was really good. Ordered a variety from Sunday lunch menu and everyone liked their dishes. Good service, although my order didn't get through somehow but as an apology was offered a free drink, didn't need but appreciated the gesture. Please not that it is gastropub but service charge was not included and i didn't notice it and didn't leave a tip. My sincere apologies for that.

Staying nearby, we walked to the miners arms to be greeted with a lovely modern and attractive decor. Miner's Arms is dog friendly and has a dining area that allows our canine companions. The staff were friendly, professional and accommodating, the food was delicious, catering for vegetarian and meat eaters alike. Would definitely recommend and return again if we visit this location again. The service, food and experience were very much value for money. Would highly recommend

We had such a great experience here! The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was full of flavour and really well cooked. On top of that, our server was so lovely and kind, which made the whole visit even more enjoyable. A wonderful pub with fantastic food and genuinely warm service, can’t wait to come back!

We spent 4 days as a group of 9 in the Forest of Dean in August ’25 and decided to visit the Miners one evening. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Even continually moving tables in the conservatory to accommodate us all! The food was outstanding and reasonably priced too. There is a play area outside which the children thoroughly enjoyed. If we ever visited the area again we’d definitely return. 10/10.

What a lovely pub! Very dog friendly, staff member who served us was an absolute delight. Didn't catch his name but he was a great server and lush with our collie dog, bringing treats over and making a fuss. Very dog friendly. Suitable for those with dietary requirements. Had vegan starters, mains and deserts that were actually so delicious! Wide selection of dishes too, I wish I was local because I'd be here all the time. There's parking and a park for kids to play in. Would definitely recommend!

We fell upon this restaurant today. I don’t review often! This place was too good not to. The food was so tasty and hot. I had Lamb curry. The ambience was just lovely and the very waitress was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be revisiting to have some more of this gorgeous food.

As a tourist visiting the area for the first time, my friend and I were told to come to this place for a drink and a good time. We were let through to buy drinks, came back outside, but when we needed to go back in to use the facilities, we were stopped by a bouncer and was told we were not allowed back through, whilst the whole time he was letting other people in! I was gob smacked and mortified!! I still don't know why? There was nowhere else to go to use the toilet. I'll be waiting for an apology and a refund on our drinks!! Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Who lets people in to take their money but not to use their facilities? Or is it just women?! Are we going back in time or is this place sexist? I thought we were getting to a safe place for women, but clearly not, when there's staff treating women with such disrespect.

Wrote a review a few weeks ago and saying how nice it was, But after being really let down on Thursday night, My steak which was supposed to be M/W done came out rare, It then took ages to get 2nd time, My partner finished his meal, When I got my steak again chips over cooked and steak was really chewy, Couldn't eat the meal, Not happy.. So friends booked in for a meal here and we got invited and again was awful, A free pudding was offered as not been able to eat meal a chocolate brownie was chosen, Well it was burnt and very bland, A member of staff tried it and also said it wasn't good so we left very disappointed, When owner was informed he said nothing just walked away and have now decided will only use for drinking from now on as the food is no good.. So having come back because family and friends book here each time its still been bad. Tonight 14/7/22 we decided to try again but this was the worst the steak was awful, even the staff said they keep getting complaints from others about the food, Apparently Ryan and Nathan don't like being chefs and seriously don't want to be there said the staff, I feel so disappointed as wanted to be perfect instead I had to buy a sandwich from tesco next door, I will never recommend this place, Only things good about it are the selection of drinks and the two lovely staff Kat and Angelo, Very upset with tonight.. They said they would get bar manager to ring me today 15/7/22 and he didn't so even more disappointed.. Thought not been for a while and try again but it was still just as bad on 19/11/22 portions are smaller and put prices up, so thought won't have steak again as they can't get it right so had chicken, Leek, Ham pie well the puff pastry just evaporated I had 4 tiny bits of chicken 1 cube of ham and a small bit of Leek oh and 8 chips, my partner fish and chips he said weren't that good. Its a shame as used to be an amazing place to eat.. We don't eat here still but do like to go for drink here. Staff are always welcoming and friendly and now they have opened the bar out its so much bigger and easier to get to the bar.. Talking to one of the staff last night 02/02/2023 they welcoming any new suggestions. Did notice that they have a specials board in the restaurant which did look nice. Still recommend just for pleasant warm pub.. So went in last night 14/02/2023 and booked in the restaurant having had bad meals before was a bit weary of eating, but booked in as partners parents like it there.. Service was really good and when we all received our meals they were hot and really lovely.. 2 had ham eggs and chips and both were satisfied, 1 had fish and chips and again was happy. Having had a nice meal last week decided we would go back this week so last night 23/02/2023 we discovered that they don't know the meaning of consistency the mash on top fish pie was anaemic and the veg was not cooked so raw it squeaked in my mouth, Gammon was pink and tough, the steak that was ordered M/W was M/R but more rare than medium.. Safe to say we have called time on eating there which is a shame as used to be so good for food.. Well no longer chicken, leek pie. The menu is very limited and not that appealing. Boards seem to stay the same. Become pricey. They do a deal coupon but really not worth it..

This delightful inn boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for unwinding with friends or family. What a little gem to find. the dog & muffler. The pub is absolutely stunning both inside & out, the staff were 1st class & the food was exceptional. Asking about the history of the pub, the manager was happy to give us the time to inform us, nothing was too much for him & the barman was very pleasant. Thank you both & the chef for a very pleasant experience, we will definitely return.

Nice pub tucked away at the bottom of a hill – though terrible if you need phone reception! It has a charming country vibe and is always quite busy on Sundays. The garden is great for summer, with views of rolling hills, and the interior is spacious and cosy, with several rooms branching off from the main lobby. The main bar area has a good selection of drinks, with Butty Bach being the highlight – an excellent Wye Valley ale. Prices are standard for the area. The Sunday roast is consistently good and offers great value for money. I’ve had the lamb leg before, and while it’s nice, I feel like having the bone in would be more traditional. The sides are what you’d expect, and the gravy is good too. Overall, it’s probably the best Sunday roast in the area for value and quality, and I always make a point to visit when I’m around the area.

A Hidden Gem for the Whole Family! We stumbled upon the Dog & Muffler Inn while exploring a quaint road and decided to stop as it looked perfect for our family, including Dexter, our dog. We were thrilled to find a welcoming atmosphere, and the garden area was a big hit. Our kids, aged 4 and 5, loved running around, and Dexter had plenty of space too. The lunch was delicious, with hearty portions, and the service was friendly and attentive. A wonderful, family-friendly spot—highly recommended!

4 of us plus two dogs. We did ring ahead to reserve a table but it was Thursday night and not rammed so the booking probably wasn't necessary. Food absolutely excellent. Between us we had sweet and sour chicken, beef lasagne, and chicken curry. Big portions and extremely tasty. Service very prompt and staff all extremely friendly. Highly recommended would definitely go again.

I and my wife were in Gloucestershire for the weekend to recharge our batteries. We found this charming local pub and decided to grab a few drinks and a bite to eat. Wooooowwww! It was really good! We were a little bit circumspect initially whether to dine here or not, reading a lot of negative reviews about their food. But we were super happy with the food. My wife had their Soup of the Day and I had Steak & Ale pie. Both were amazing!

Step into The Regal - JD Wetherspoon in Gloucester and be transported to a place where regal charm meets quirky eccentricity. The ornate chandeliers and unique decor give off a Shakespearean comedy vibe, making for an interesting backdrop. While the rooms may seem untouched since the Elizabethan era, they offer an experience that will make you feel like you've traveled back in time.
A typical Wetherspoon - good beer, great service and clever reuse of an old building . And unlike the White Hart in Winchcombe, there wasn’t a 10% service charge!
Stephen T — Google review
Another Wetherspoons I've previously been to many years ago, however did not review at the time. This is one of two branches in Gloucester. The Regal is a large branch of Wetherspoons situated in an old Cinema building, in King's Square, on the northern side of the City Centre. There is a reasonable sized garden area out the back of the pub. The bar area and coffee machines are on the left hand side of the pub, as you walk down the stairs at the front. On this occasion, I ordered a Vegetarian Breakfast, and a pint of Wolf Brewery 'Granny Wouldn't Like It' Ale - 4.8%. Total cost was £7.88. £4.99 for the breakfast, and £2.89 for the beer. The pint arrived within a minute of ordering, very quick! Food was a bit slower, arriving around 13 minutes after ordering. The food was well present and cooked upon arrival. Despite the recent price rises, still one of the cheapest places in Gloucester centre for food and drink.
Mark J — Google review
We visited here a few times when we stayed in Glouster. For the prices the food and drinks were good, service was good and the atmosphere was good it's a very busy spot. If I'm back this way I will drop back in pint of Carlsberg 2.54 pounds about €3 good deals on food and a pint

This is typical Wetherspoons reasonably priced and worth the money, meals seem smaller but still just as good, this is set on Kingsquare in Gloucester, has plenty of seating inside and outside and smoking area, children friendly, this was the old cinema for gloucester, worth a visit.. We now come here a bit more. They do clear down alot quicker than Lord High Constable. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Did have issue with still frozen food then got taken back and came back still frozen. Kitchen Manager did ring and email to apologise and apparently has taken steps to ensure food safety. Sat here and watching waitress transfer sauces from one bottle to another which is against health and hygiene. To be honest it's disgusting. We also sat and watched while 8 meals sat under the warming lamps for 5 minutes and no excuses it's not that busy 16/04/2025. This is a really good wetherspoons but just little things like this not good. But do enjoy the deals and speaking to the friendly staff. Will still use. 18/04/2025. Nice to see a member of staff using initiative using trolley and lift to clear down. All tables wiped clean. And such a lovely friendly hardworking lady Carol. And she would be brilliant training the others apart from duty manager who also works well.

The setting and building are wonderful. There's plenty of space outside to sit, with many covered. A delightful spot to unwind. We arrived late Friday evening, the restaurant was busy, but they managed to squeeze us in. They had a couple of decent beers on tap, and the wine list was well-priced and varied. The food, though, that was truly excellent. They use local produce where they can, and it's cooked to perfection. It's much more than a gastropub, more decent restaurant, and priced accordingly. The staff were also friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed ourselves so much we booked to return the following evening. This time we had the rib-eye steaks. They were cooked exactly as ordered. The only minor gripe was that they were served on a bed of fried onions and mushrooms, which made the plate a little greasy. But that's a minor quibble, as the meat was rightly the star.

What a gem of a place! The atmosphere, the service and the food are fantastic. Fish dishes are particularly impressive, which makes Glasshouse really stand out among alternatives in the area. The whole sea bass I had was beautifully fresh and cooked to perfection - the pictures speak louder than words. It's tucked away from A40 in a beautiful location, and it should be a destination restaurant for a wonderful experience both in winter and in summer!

I made last minute plans to take some friends to dinner, and they recommended the Glasshouse. We didn’t have reservations, and showed up on a busy Friday night in the hopes that they'd have room for us. They were super accommodating, and ever so friendly. Despite being busy, the service was great. We even had the chef come to our table on several occasions. The atmosphere is perfect for enjoying conversation with your guests. Our meals were delicious, and dessert was also yummy. You can go for a nice walk afterwards on the public paths that surround the area. We will certainly be back to this hidden treasure.

One star on food because I didn't have any. Service was what I would expect one bar staff gave exceptional service. Atmosphere was lively but I definitely got the impression it had some idiots in the place that night. Definitely will be going back again

What a great little find. In all the years I’ve lived in the county never even knew of this place. We stopped for a pint whilst waiting for a carol concert at the nearby stunning Gloucester Cathedral. We were served quickly and the beer was very tasty. This pub is a great reason for why people should start using pubs again like we used to. Buying alcohol from the supermarket isn’t really the same is it? Maybe pub chains need a bit of marketing to get out out again. Well done the Sword Inn, we shall definitely be back.

A quaint country pub hidden away on quiet lanes. It has a really nice garden over the road next to a stream! The prices are very fair. It's definitely worth checking out, however be warned the roads to get to the Royal Spring can be very steep.

Traditional country pub. Delighted to find it open for a drink and a packet of crisps on a weekday. Also a nice pint of London Pride at an outrageously reasonable price. Dog friendly, friendly staff and clientele. Lovely break from a hike in the Wye Valley.

We heard the pub had now ownership so we thought we'd check it out.....I am so pleased we did! 3 of us had lunch, small menu but beautifully cooked. Service was brilliant & staff were friendly & attentative. Pub was clean & beautifully decorated. I loved the chilled background music. Lovely, chilled, local vibe. The dog enjoyed his visit too! They only do food on lunch times at the moment (March 25) but hopefully they will add evening food soon. 😃

Nestled in the picturesque Forest of Dean, The Malt Shovel Inn is a charming 11th-century establishment that perfectly blends history with modern comfort. With its simple yet inviting rooms featuring exposed-stone walls and antique decor, guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi during their stay. This lively pub is known for its vibrant atmosphere, especially on weekends when live music fills the air.
This is one of the oldest Inns in England (0910 I think). Full of character and quirks. Had I one night stay and a meal which was excellent and great value for money. Our room was clean and tidy and the staff look after you well. Beers and Ales tasted good. The car park is a bit of a scrap yard with many rusting relics, but somehow just adds to the character to the place.

Had an awful experience in this place. No tea coffee milk sugar in my room. No towels. The toilet seat fell off. The bed springs had gone. The bed was small and I got bit 3 times in the night. It was dirty noisy and I was supposed to get a breakfast in the price of my room. And there was no breakfast. Dirty plates piled up in the kitchen. And there was noone to be seen. The landlord said he would get me a refund. And I am still waiting after 3 weeks. The phone number and email address is invalid. I only got hold of the landlord on Facebook.
Hannah C — Google review
My partner booked this so called B&B as a last minute weekend break for us both, when we arrived outside I could of cried, it looked as though it was boarded up and very run down, we went in and then I did break down, it was very dated and run down, our room was dusty, the tv wasn't working, the bedding was clean but not ironed, the carpet was dirty and stained, the shower over the bath constantly dripped which was like Chinese torcher , yhe eindows were dirty and tne mirrors were also dirty, there was a kettle and some tea/coffee sugar but no milk!! We had to ask for milk and was told the milkman was late in delivering ( this was around 5 pm ) we eventually had a little milk in a small jug around 7pm , the toilet seat was loose we went down to the bar later in the evening which some of the locals were very drunk so we went back to our room, next morning we went down for breakfast and there wasn't anyone or anything there!!! So we went out for the day, we bought our own milk and t bags/ sugar as none were put in our room while we were out, also there was only a little left on a toilet roll so had to ask for another one which another young man went into another bedroom and took one from there for us, we went down to the bar around 8 pm and was only there a while as at 9.30 pm they closed up saying there licences said they had to close by 10pm ?? Next morning we went down to try to have breakfast again but still no one there !! There was a toaster there this time and a few small box's of children's cereals but no bread, butter, milk or dishes cutlery ect we went straight back to our room and packed up and left so I would advise no one to go to stay here EVER!!!!
Avril G — Google review
This place could be a gold mine! Which they could charge double for! It's a beautiful place with so much history & quirkiness! But it was completely let down by the lack of attention to detail, everywhere. Unfortunately, we had no toilet roll, no soap for our hands, out-of-date milk, sugar but no tea or coffee, dirty mugs, cobwebs everywhere,, Our room had a tv but the lead didn't reach the socket, that's the rooms. The rest of the Inn, no wifi password, no toilet roll in the women's toilets in the bar area, random stuff everywhere I don't mean the signs or old taxidermy items, that's all part of the quirkiness (If you don't like old quirky and different this place isn't for you anyway!) it's the broken pool table upon first entering just left there, peoples personal items just left out, we weren't sure if we were walking into someones personal home at one point. Little things are helpful, like if we were told the kitchen was going to be closed for the evening when we asked at 6 pm the barman did apologise & advised us to try the CrossKeys Pub, about a 15min drive away. (It was an amazing meal there) but also a heads up in the morning that the breakfast will take 20/30mins. 1 gentleman seems to be doing everything, checking us in, manning bar till late then up first thing making breakfast. Which I will stress was lovely, though he mentioned he couldn't do us sausages as there was none available at the shop, we did have to laugh! These are all small things that are easily rectified, we did mention some of these politely especially toilet roll & extension cable for tv but had to wait for the landlord who was in & out then just busy so we gave up. (Luckily we always keep tissues in the car - no shop in the village) When we did see him we didn't get a chance to speak as he came in with his family into their accommodation within the Inn and we didn't see him come out before we returned to our room. Being a mystery shopper in the past & working within the travel industry I was frustrated because the potential with this place is just huge! Yes, we did only pay £60 for the evening in a twin room including breakfast which was a last-minute booking 7hrs before we arrived, however, you should always have a clean room as standard the saving grace was the history, breakfast & location. All the above things rectified we'd have easily paid £120 for a night!
Katyia J — Google review
2nd visit and it will be the last I'm afraid. Room not clean shower constantly drip drip drip, TV not working, bedside lamps not working no toilet roll or toiletries, towels damp. Asked what time we wanted breakfast told them, asked if we could get evening meal to be told sorry no kitchen? We went out for meal and then went down for breakfast nwxt morning and literally nobody anywhere kitchen closed dining room empty. We left very dissatisfied and had breakfast elsewhere. Please do not book. It is awful.
Steve V — Google review
I recently came across old pictures of when I stayed here with my partner a year ago, and felt compelled to write a review because we had such a nice time. We were driving back from camping in Wales and were cold and tired and found this place randomly on trivago. £50 for a room with breakfast seemed good. We arrived late at night and were hesitant as it looks a little run down, but as soon as we stepped inside and met the staff we were completely at ease. They were so welcoming, and even though we arrived very late the chef made the effort to make us dinner - big, hearty portions with vegetarian options, and went the extra mile to make garlic bread from scratch when she realised she was out of stock. She even sat and chatted with us after we finished our meal - it felt like visiting a friends home. The room is a little threadbare, everything a little wonky, but still clean, and if anything the it adds to the charm and cosiness - keeping old furniture like the sewing table was a lovely touch. Breakfast was very basic but fine. A little Cotswolds village with the Forest of Dean so close, its a great location. We're in our 20's but it would be suitable for older people and families too. If we were in the area we would definitely stay again!
Lauren H — Google review
VERY DISAPPOINTING, dirty room, television not working, no hot water, no plug for the sink. Room rate included breakfast - hot food ok but no cereal, no toast, the urn had not been put on so no hot drinks, when the urn did warm up the staff had gone leaving me to make a hot drink with no milk or tea spoon. Think again before booking this place.
Simon K — Google review
Probably the worst accommodation I've stayed at in thirty years; just inept. The drawer liners are news pages from 1966, probably the last time any maintenance or cleaning happened. The room was filthy, most of the electricals didn't work. The main wardrobe nearly fell on us when we opened it and the landlord admitted it did the same to him a few days before! Hot water in the sink was a dribble. Hot water in the shower ran cold very quickly. A fellow guest tripped on the landing steps as there was no lighting. Our room looked out over the landlords patio and a delightful accumulation of two weeks worth of dog poo. Don't open the window. Breakfast service was non existent. The coffee maker sat in a semi-dismantled heap in the corner.

Guests can enjoy the pleasant outdoor terrace or head upstairs to play games, listen to music, or simply relax. The staff is accommodating and the pub is dog-friendly.
A quirky, compact and fantastic bar, which has to be seen to be believed! There is always a fantastic selection of well-kept beers and ciders, which rotates quite regularly. The refurbished games room upstairs is both popular and amazing, with the arcade machines being free to play for punters. Don't let the location of the bar put you off!

Small bar in a narrow side alley. Few tap beers and real ales available. Not much seating available. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Lovely old,low beamed pub/ restaurant in the middle of the countryside. The food was perfect and well presented. In fact it was so tempting that I forgot to take pictures til we were half way through our meal! 😆 We all had different meals, ox cheek ,venison, pie, burger and battered fish, all of which were excellent. The ox cheek just melted in the mouth. The desserts were scrumptious and of decent size and the price tag was reasonable. Definitely deserves a second visit!

Pub
The Turks Head Inn, located on Southgate Street in Gloucester, is the city's first micropub. It has received accreditation from the Best Bar None national scheme, which is delivered locally in partnership with Gloucester City Council and Gloucestershire Constabulary. This recognition reflects the venue's commitment to responsible management of alcohol licensed premises and ensuring high standards for a safe environment and customer satisfaction.
Visited Saturday 1st Feb. On a day trip to Gloucester, I found this wonderful pub whilst exploring the city centre. It was so good that I visited twice. During the afternoon, and again an hour before I was due to depart on the train home. Upon entering was greeting with a range of three beers, one golden, one amber, and one dark beer. In the afternoon visit, I had a pint and a half of Buntingford Oatmeal Stout. The beer was served in excellent condition. It must of been a fair way through the cask, as when I returned in the evening it had sadly gone. After a few hours of exploring Gloucester, returned for another pint and a half of Glastonbury 'Black At Yer' Stout. Once again, the beer was in perfect condition. 5* on both occasions. What I like about here is how friendly people were, and the excellent prices for a pint of well served cask beer - £3.80 a pint. Very few places serve beer at this price nowadays, obviously barring Wetherspoons. If you are in the Gloucester area, I highly recommending paying this pub a visit. Will definitely be making a return here, when I'm next in Gloucester, or passing through! Just beware it is cash only, however that is not a major inconvenience when maintaining a friendly and very well priced establishment.

Very quaint bar, nothing special but enjoyable. Staff were friendly and polite. Few tap beers and real ales available at great prices. Benches for seating with wooden and metal trunks for tables, amazing idea. Walls covered with beer logo labels. Wheelchair friendly but tight as it's a small bar. Down to earth sort of place Beer was good. Very nice visit.

Quirky place with lots to see. Small range of beers and some lovely ciders too. Dogs welcome, which is always nice and even some treats available. Seating not very comfortable and fairly limited, but the small size of the place is one of the redeeming features.

My boyfriend took me to this pub yesterday as he'd been thr week before & thought I'd like it. Sat outside at the front as the weather was glorious. Great atmosphere in the bar, decent music from all eras & several staff & customers chatted to us, making up feel relaxed & welcome. The drinks were fantastic, I drink cider & there was a gorgeous & very impressive choice of them, I had a Cloudy Rhubarb then an Elderflower one, both beautiful. We will definitely be visiting again.

The pub is bottom of Northgate Street in Gloucester.. Since first writing this review have been in a couple of times and definitely not as friendly and welcoming as before. Seems very clicky. We had a great experience adopting our Poppy from CDCH a year ago. The staff were very thorough to ensure we were a good fit but friendly and professional. They all clearly cared for the animals in their care and have been on hand for any advice that we needed. CDCH have also followed up to make sure all is going ok on our end!

CDCH have been so wonderful to rescue from! The staff are kind and supportive at every step of the process, even beyond that! They provided me with training resources, and they sell all necessary essentials at their front desk so they have everything you need when you adopt. And to top it off their facilities are lovely; they’re always clean and are in a gorgeous location. A year later I couldn’t be happier with my dog and everything CDCH did for us.

Couldn't be more in love with our new additions. Nala & Obi have been with us for over a year now and we are all besotted. Nala is very much a home bod and shadows me around the house all day while Obi loves to 'help' with my work... Playful, happy young cats. Can't imagine our family without them.

I adopted my lovely Winnie from CD&CH 8 months ago and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. From the application process all the way through to the subsequent phone calls, visits, information sharing, collection and follow up, the whole process was designed to ensure Winnie found the most suitable home for her needs which is ultimately the most important thing. The staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable (especially Lauren) and they made sure I fully understood Winnie’s behaviours so I could ensure she had the smoothest transition to her new home. In 8 months she’s gone from a scared and unsocialised pup (though clearly very well cared for while at the shelter) to a brave, really lovely girl and I couldn’t do without her now! Thank you x

We found our new fur bundle online and filled out the form. A few days later we were contacted and organised our first meet. Flash is a very special boy and we needed a few more visits to make sure we were right for him and he was right for us. The Team are amazing both through the adoption and after care. They always put Flash first. They are always here for us, providing help and advice when ever needed and are always happy to get updates on how Flash is doing. All the members of the Team go above and beyond for the aminals in there care. If you want to adopt a new "Fur Baby" this is the place to go

It is a lovely rescue centre, all the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and really seem to care about the animals. Before Rocket (now Herby) arrived I had fostered a beautiful doe from CDCH. She was due to be a companion for my girl Meredith. But after 4 weeks of trying to bond them it was clear that they were never going to like each other. CDCH were beyond helpful and thoughtful. Meredith needed a friend and Rocket (the sweetest, cutest little boy ever) needed a mother figure. He fell in love with her instantly. She took a little longer but she adores him. He likes to tuck right under her chin so that she has to hug him! Heart-warming or what!

Pub
The White Hart Inn is a charming pub and restaurant located on the bank of the Severn. Despite being a bit pricey, the quality of the food and service justifies the cost. The cozy interior offers a larger space than expected, with a friendly and accommodating staff. The Sunday roast, particularly the beef, is highly recommended. Additionally, their special mixed grill is worth trying as it offers well-sourced and deliciously prepared meats.
Whilst visiting the Forrest of Dean we stumbled upon this place. It is nestled nicely on the river Severn. What a great place to come for food. The portions are huge but they do not skimp on quality!!!! As you can see by the photos. The food looks amazing. We ordered fish and chips (xxxl fish), barbecue ribs and steak. The chips were delicious, very chunky, crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. The home made tartar sauce was delicious 😋. We are already planning our next 2 hour drive to the area so we can have an excuse to go back!!!

Food was excellent. Good portions too. Slight wait for food but not an issue. Nice setting on the river. Children's play area & large car parks available. Under cover eating areas outside. Would have given 5 stars but the glass tables outside badly needed cleaning. Would visit again.
Julie “ — Google review
Had breakfast here with a glorious view over the Severn. Service was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was very good, apart from the sausages which were little dry inside for some reason. Overall though, a great place to have breakfast on a sunny day.

A very large pub by the river. Huge inside. The food was good. Service was good too. In the Summer I imagine that the outside of this pub by the river is packed.
Darren S — Google review
Booked table by phone and asked for river view and got exactly that. The atmosphere was good with plenty of people in but comfortable amount. The welcome was excellent and the food was top drawer and good value. Highly recommend the steak pie.😋 Would love this place as my local...👏👏👍

I stopped here for a cool drink while out in the Forest of Dean and, out of curiosity, asked what time they stopped serving Sunday lunch. Expecting that a reservation would be needed (as it seemed very popular), I was pleasantly surprised to learn the kitchen was open until 7pm and they could fit me in for a food sitting. I ordered the roast beef lunch and was really impressed with the presentation. The portion was generous, everything was cooked perfectly, and it tasted fantastic. I’ll definitely be adding The White Hart to my favourites on GPS!
Loz K — Google review
Had a lovely meal here. The pub has character and the staff are very polite, and provided a good service. The cost per meal was slightly above average. Limited range of real ales.

Located in the charming city of Gloucester, Tank is a cozy and inviting hangout known for its relaxed ambiance and delicious food. This gastronomic oasis offers a variety of hearty meals that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. The rustic interior and welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal place to refuel before exploring Gloucester or to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
5 stars for it’s service, atmosphere & nice choice of cask & keg beers. Just enjoyed this great place as i was visiting this area. Attentive staff, like both of them for their customer service. Great beers offered at small prices comparison to London 😜 as well as spirits n tasty food on offer too. Situated at brilliant place just next to dock with lovely views of both sides. Oh don’t wanna forget love rusty high chairs 😄.

Brilliant pub serving their own amazing beer and gin, as well as local ciders. This became our local while we were on holiday in Gloucester! Very dog friendly, staff brought water, biscuits and gave ours a cuddle. The food was fantastic too, we had pizzas and snacky bits. The cheesy pretzel was easily my favourite!
A J — Google review
Came here numerous times and loved it! The staff were absolutely fantastic, welcoming and very friendly. A big shout out and huge thank you to you all... Nick (a real legend), Connor (manager..nudge nudge, wink, wink...say no more 🤫😉), Millie, Bailey, Louisa and Jovan (this fragrance is named after you "Jovan Musk for Men"..a real classic, try it). You are all stars and your boss/the owner has some real gems of people in all of you, well done all...!! 👊👏👏 What a fantastic place and their burgers and pizzas looked so delicious too. Maybe next time we'll pop over for a lunch or dinner and have one of these.... I guess the staff got to know me after a few visits and even took my better half for a wee Rhubarb and Ginger gin which she absolutely loved! (All these gins are made at their Gloucester Brewery and Gin Distillery) What great real ales and first proper cask ales I've had in a very long time. Their Gloucester Brewery and Fox Gin distillery is a short walk away over the bridge on the other side of the docks basin. Definitely worth a visit as you can buy all the ales or gin at the Brewery shop. (A visit to here is a must!) The only other inhouse and onsite Brewery I know of is in Market Drayton, Shropshire. I had the Cascade Red ale which was great and fresh: Gloucester Brewery – Cascade – 4.2% – Red Bold aroma of spicy & floral hops over a perfectly balanced biscuit malt base But my absolute favourite is the Dockside Dark Porter!! Gloucester Brewery - Dockside Dark – 5.2% – Porter Velvety smooth and subtly sweet award-winning porter with a gorgeous aroma of coffee, chocolate and dark fruits. I highly recommend this pub, restaurant, Brewery....the decor throughout is stunning and so vibrant and with it, no stuffy or dated decor here at all... Thanks to YOU ALL for making us and me especially feel totally welcomed and so at home... Amazing place, amazing staff and amazing perfectly kept and chilled real cask ales, great Gins and delicious food..!!! 👍👊

Great beer. This is the Gloucester Brewery, established in 2011. Large selection of cask ales brewed by themselves. Award winning beers. Ever changing selection of great guest beers. Wines, spirits, great selection of gins. They also serve great food. The service is polite and friendly. They are very willing to provide advice on the selection of beers. Great atmosphere. Visit any day of the week. One of my favourite places in Gloucester.
Stephen W — Google review
Good lunch had here, went for the salmon and cream cheese toastie. Not too busy when we arrived, so slightly subdued atmosphere. The ale selection was very varied, opted for a nice light pale ale which went well with the food choice. Daughter had a pizza which I was told was lush!
Martin P — Google review
Lovely setting, gorgeous cocktails, beer selection was good and amazing food!!! Would highly recommend to others visiting Gloucester.
Donna G — Google review
Great selection of beer, especially that they're mostly brewed locally! Looks like lots of events on too throughout the week! Sphere of destiny is a 👌🏻 beer!

Friendly staff been here before and food was much better, this time the burger was a bit tasteless and served in a cold and white bun (I’m being critical for the cheapest burger over £10). Plenty of chips but they were slightly undercooked. Think I’ll steer from the place for food in the future which is a shame

What a fantastic discovery! In search of a post-visit dining option following Chepstow Castle, I was pleasantly surprised by stumbling upon this hidden gem. The pub offers a wide selection of delectable fare and delightful beverages, all accompanied by the warm and hospitable staff. The quality of their chips is unparalleled, and their burgers are equally impressive whether you prefer vegetarian or meat options. Additionally, they cater to vegan preferences with scrumptious bangers and mash.
A great community pub. You'll love the food and staff. The best steak & ale pie I've ever had! We'll return if in the area again. There is no car park so leave extra time to park your car. It was very busy In a week day- early evening.

Fantastic community pub, lovely staff and really excellent food. We had salmon and chicken supreme one night and Sunday roast beef the next day. All meals were really delicious and excellent. Hot tasty and well presented.
Colette — Google review
Fantastic Sunday Roast. Stopped by on way back home from Forest of Dean and so glad we did. We had the pork belly, fish and chips and nut roast and all were fabulous. The nut roast homemade and “the best nut roast” my wife has ever had. Service was incredibly friendly and they checked with us multiple times to make sure we were taken care of. Great selection of drinks - including local Wye valley beers. Highly recommend. We’ll be back for food whenever we’re back in the area!

We visited as a group of 5 on Sunday evening. The service was polite and friendly. The Sunday roasts were top notch. We all enjoyed the sticky toffee puddings and crumbles. Great place and would come again.

We were a group of 6 girlfriends having a weekend away and we came here for lunch. The sharing antipasto plates were excellent as was the baked Camembert. I had the steak sandwich which was superb! Such lovely helpful staff nothing was too much trouble and clearly a popular pub with lots of groups coming and going. Would be back again soon if I can!

What a find! Fell upon this place whilst out walking at the last minute decided on a Sunday lunch. The service was so friendly and attentive, fast and caring. It’s rare to get this and we felt very well looked after, the staff had a friendly open attitude which was encouraging when we asked for mint in our gin and tonic and feeling overwhelmed with so many top favourite choices on the dessert menu. The food was delicious, a top beef roast and loads of veg with the perfect amount of gravy and the lemon tart on of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend and we’ll be back for sure I can see this will be on of our regulars places to eat. Thank you so much. My husband had the lamb and brownie sundae, there wasn’t a scrap of food left over.

I walked in and everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. I was then met with the lovely manager, Lois who could not of been any better. We then were sat down and we got a couple of drinks then ordered. I ordered the pie of the week, which at the time was chicken, bacon and stuffing with fries and gravy and that was one of the best pies I have ever had. Great time will definitely come again.
Woody B — Google review
The food was excellent. The restaurant manages to strike a balance between feeling special enough for a celebratory meal, yet also welcoming and relaxed enough for a Sunday lunch. It was family-friendly too, with a corner of games for children to enjoy, and several staff members went out of their way to talk with our kids, which made the experience even warmer.

Pub
Nestled on Old Hereford Road, The Crown Inn has recently made waves by becoming the first venue in Stroud to clinch a prestigious county title, triumphing over notable competitors like The Salutation Inn and The Pelican Inn. This charming pub, which once faced demolition for housing development, is now a vibrant hub under the new ownership of Jo and Steve. Visitors rave about its warm atmosphere and friendly staff who go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome.
Excellent little find, was just down the road from the hotel we stayed at, decided to take a chance at a local pub with arriving late. I would say it was a locals pub so had a few people in chatting away which is better than entering an empty pub on a weeknight (Thursday) The food was suburb for the price, staff were very friendly and everyone was welcoming of Marley (dog), I think by the time we left he had made friends with everyone in the place as they walked past to the toilets 😀 Would recommend if your in the area and need a cheap bite and a drink.

During a recent journey, I stumbled upon The Malswick House Pub, and what a delightful surprise it turned out to be! Nestled conveniently along the way, this pub boasts an intriguing layout that adds character without detracting from its charm. The friendly bar staff made me feel right at home and recommended their signature dish, which was simply divine. The food here is nothing short of exceptional; you can customize your burger just the way you like it!
Our 30th Wedding Anniversary we treated ourselves to a meal out, so to The Malswick, where we'd booked previously. We'd wanted a quiet, peaceful place, with good food and service, We hit the jackpot, other than a couple or three youngsters playing pool in the other bar and the owner/manager We were alone, it was warm inside as outside it was cold wet foggy and dark. Neither my wife and I drink though she did have a couple of half lagers, having worked behind bars myself and in my youth destroyed quite a few brain cells I've not drunk for 20+ years, I digress, The food.......Kaz had a pasta dish, I had this enormous "Argos plate" which was piles of mixed meat, pittas, chips and salad, the taste flavours that reminded me of a long ago holiday in Turkey, it was great, Kaz also enjoyed hers and reviewed separately. After the meal I had lemon cake, highly recommend, I didn't eat The Argos Plate entirely I couldn't it was too much, we brought home remains in a "doggybag" I'd asked the waiteess to take a few pics on my phone of my wife and I which she was happy to do so, please forgive me not naming her, I am useless with names and a tad forgetful. In all at The Malswick, good food, good service and quiet on a cold damp late November night.
Mark B — Google review
Had a couple of pints and some food here, and limited choice of beer, especially ales. Food tasted really nice, but the portions were very small on the dishes we ordered, but saw small others having the wraps, and they looked decent size. And the pudding selection was very disappointing. Overall a bit pricey for what we had
Shaun B — Google review
We stopped here on our way to our destination and by chance it was a nice place for food. The pub itself felt a little weird, you'd have to see it to understand and I'm not saying it in a bad way, just a weird layout for a pub. But, the lady behind the bar was very friendly. She recommended The Argos? I think it was called for lunch and it was delicious, I finished every bite but couldn't move after! No regrets. There's a massive beer garden and a car park right outside. TV, pool table, kid-friendly. Would happily stop here again if we're ever passing by.
Ironic S — Google review
Called in on the off-chance as we needed a Sunday evening meal & were instantly made welcome, the food was excellent, as was the service, it was a little noisy, but it is a pub.
Trevor M — Google review
Absolutely terrible! Felt unwell whilst driving and decided to pull in at the next safest place so my wife could take over driving. Who’d have thought stopping briefly in a pub car park with no warning signs would cause a £100 fine. Extra cheekiness to give you 14 days from the issue date to pay a lesser charge but make sure it takes a week and a half to actually be delivered. Must be a right little earner as there’s no other option to stop on that main road!
Jack B — Google review
We just happened to stop by on our weekend trip to Wales, my god was it the right place to stop by. The staff were great, very efficient and friendly. Nice location, big garden and big carpark (free for customers) The décor was lovely, the colours are some we personally found lush, wall lights are very nice and give a nice atmosphere. The food was great, I had the Bacon Cheese Burger, it was MASSIVE 3 patties with 6 bacon rashers and 3 layers of cheese, plenty of chips and a amazing side salad. Well worth the money. My partner had the mixed Gyros wrap, she loves Santorini and claims this wrap today was almost as good as her favourite traditional kitchen in Santorini. Massive portion again, also well worth the money. To anyone considering stopping by, highly recommend. Extremely happy we decided to stop here on our way out. If we're ever coming past again, we will definitely be stopping in for some more 😋
Matt B — Google review
The food is delicious. Here you have the opportunity to create the perfect burger, according to your preferences! A lightly crispy top bun, but soft inside. It is very tasty! If you don't eat meat, (like my husband) you will be pleasantly surprised with a veggie burger. Fries are something special! Somewhat reminiscent, as in the Beefy Boy, with cheese sauce and bacon. Biggest burgers and its definitely very cheap for this kind of superb quality food. Very helpful and friendly service. High recommended!
