I have tried it in the morning when they just started. It is better to try it in the morning. Coz’ during lunch and day, the Q was so long. Ok the food was nothing special except it was fried and that it taste fresh and piping hot. But the food taste thousands time nicer because: when the store was passing me the stick, it accidentally dropped to the floor, was thinking that goes my snack and I need buy one more to try, but they gave me a new one without asking me to pay. I was really grateful for their awesome service. It makes my day and gave me lots of good vibe for the rest of my journey! Thank you! This shop sells fried momoji manju which is a soft sponge cake with fillings which is fried. It was delicious, crunchy on outside, soft and not dry on the inside. Fillings available are custard, red bean, etc. They also sell drinks. Seating available inside which is air-conditioned and with wifi. Good place for a break especially during summer days in this beautiful town.

We didn’t know about it until we saw a lot of people eating it while walking along this eatery street. We bought a red bean and a custard. We preferred the custard cream one although both were equally nice! NOT TO BE MISSED!

This specialty sweet store serves the most delectable local confectionary. The maple leaf shaped delight is so addictive you'd want to go back for more. 200 yen each so give it a try. You'd be glad you did. Do note that you'll have to pay for this pleasure through a vending machine and not at the counter so look for the vending machine inside the store first.

Awesome deep fried momiji manju with different fillings! It’s crispy on the outside and fluffy with whatever filling you like inside. My only gripe with the delicious snack is that it wasnt hot when it was given to me (though they were continuously making them). To buy them, you purchase the amount you want from the machine and then give the ticket to the person after the machines. Here you tell the server what flavor(s) you’d like. Then enjoy!

We tried the red bean and matcha monji with a cup of matcha. Kids tried their ice creams. The monji fillings misses the nutiness of the red bean, and the slightly bitter but creamy matcha but its good overall. Easy to eat. The matcha ice cream was good though on a windy and super cold day LOL.

A few years back we set up a tasting session, with momiji manju from 7 of the big producers on miyajima, and Fuji-ya was the clear winner. Since then I've been a loyal customer and have always chosen theirs to take back as a souvenir whenever visiting Hiroshima. Their shop on the island has the production line on display, and it's rather fascinating to watch the little cakes being made. Like most of the momiji manju shops on the island, you can have a freshly made ("yakitate") momiji manju and a cup of green tea, sitting on one of the little benches, and also with the added treat of a little garden to look at - for the absolutely paltry sum of 100 yen.

Great little shoppe. Seems to be family run since the Meiji era. Friendly staff all wearing striped shirts. Momoji are now 100 yen. Not sure if that is inflation or peak season pricing, but definitely still worth it - and enjoy the free tea

Fresh Japanese sweets for ¥100 a piece. I bought a few to eat at the beach along with a box and the individually wrapped pieces were still warm and fluffy when I made it down the street. Definitely recommended, staff was very friendly too.

I was stunned when I had a Momiji Manju at here for its sensitive taste and delicate sweetness. Momiji Manju is a very famous sweet from this Miyajima island, or widely known as a product from Hiroshima area, but nothing is like the ones from this shop, I felt. To me it was a MUST have and I would definitely come back here when I have another opportunity. The place is not far from the exit gate of the famous Itsukushima Shrine visitor course and you might want to look for the flags like attached photo alongside a small river there - after passing a bit busy area with shops. You can buy one piece at 100JPY which is still hot right after the kitchen and if you like it, you can go for a larger package with multiple pieces for takeaway. The shop could also arrange domestic shipping on your request. They would ask whether you like "Tsubu Ann" style or "Koshi Ann" style. You could buy each and see for yourself, or simply choose "Koshi Ann" as this shop was the pioneer for serving it since 1930s.

I came early in the morning so there wasn't many people. The 2 employees were making fun of an another foreigner customer (which they called 外人gaijin) in small chat after me. As a foreigner myself I was disgusted but I already paid. The fried momiji manju was way too sweet, I couldn't taste the peach or matcha taste. They are taking advantage of foreigner, so please avoid this tourist trap.

The fried momiji manju would feel right at home at any US state fair. The outer batter has a sweet funnel-cake-like flavor, and the fillings add contrasting flavor and texture.

The fried Momiji mangyu was the highlight of this place. The fried fish was ok. All served very hot from the fryer.

Another delicious vendor where we had the fish cake made with fresh fish , chilli and onions for 300 Yen. As well as their fried Momiji mandu filled with red bean paste for 200 Yen. These were both very delicious and freshly prepared for us and well worth the visit. Topped off with their maple soda of 350 Yen which has a nice and bright flavour , would definitely recommend a visit while on the island . They also have the non fried version of the treat but we did not try it at this time.

Enjoyed another local delicacy, deep-fried steamed bun. The first bite was similar to tempura, then comes the sweetness of the bean paste. Hard to describe, but the closest thing I can think of is a deep fried sweet potato. The recommendation is order the sentonai-weizen with this lovely dessert. I thought, again these Japanese sweets taste like any other. Like Taiyaki (fish shaped pastry) I assumed. But, I know myself a bit, I always wanna try some of the local food and this time I was surprised! The very friendly English speaking lady told me the custard variant was here favourite after I asked her. We'll, so I went for that one. Really delicious and comes very well with the free hot green tea you can get in the store. I'm glad I took the opportunity to get one!

If you haven’t had udon while in Japan, do give this little shop a try. The shop only had the owner(I think) so do give him some time as he’s the only one working the front of house and kitchen. Whoever said this was the best pizza ever, has never eaten a real pizza. Frozen pizzas in Europe are better and the pizza here looks&tastes like a frozen pizza baked in the oven. Crunch was good though so the timing was right. Udon noodle soup was mediocre. Prices were alright for the location right next to the ferry port. You can’t expect much from a tourist area restaurant.

Absolutely amazing place! We only had to wait about 8 minutes for a table but the lady working there kept apologizing and thanking us for waiting, which really wasn't necessary at all. The Wagyu lunch set was delicious and full of flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and the staff were super friendly. The lady even took the time to chat with us for a bit. I'd definitely come back here again next time I'm in the area.

Visited today for dinner. We got the dinner beef set, smoked salmon and the 4 cheese pizza. The beef set had sliced steak which was the best I’ve ever had, the sides sashimi and fried octopus were amazing as well. We came in without reservation so we had limited time; but it was above expectations. The menu set was perfectly sized with fresh food. We didn’t expect the wagyu to be so tender and juicy for that price, usually you pay much more. Overall great experience, the vibe of the restaurant matches the food.

The beef lunch set menu is amazing. The wagyu beef is cooked perfectly and the aides were very flavourful. What stands out here is the service, though. For lunch, they offer two options: the ‘Daily Japanese Style Lunch Set’ and the ‘Steak of Japanese Beef Lunch Set.’ I opted for the latter, and the beef was exquisite—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The place isn’t very big, prolly sits 20-25 pax. Try to sit at the ‘bar area’ if you can as the experience is different. They serve the onokomiyaki to you on a hotplate as they need to use the whole cook top for cooking. It’s delicious but be warned - the portions are huge (there is a minimum order of one order per pax) and they do not doggybag leftovers. We just stuffed ourselves silly but it was worth it! 🤪

Tucked away from the main tourist streets in Miyajimacho is this hidden gem. I was not really expecting to find such delicious handmade gelato in Japan. They serve up 18 different types of gelatos and sorbets every day - they are all fresh and creamy. They have traditional flavours: chocolate, hazelnut, lemon, pistachio and salted caramel but also some more unique to Japan: black sesame, grilled rice tea, matcha. The family who runs this gelateria are extremely friendly and happy for you to sample their wares. Because it is off the main tourist streets you don't feel rushed. You take your ice cream delights upstairs to a traditional dinning - low tables and bamboo mats and relax whilst you devour your ice cream. The prices are more than reasonable, and the quality is as good as places we've tried in the mediterranean. Definitely recommend searching it out when you are on Itsukushima.
