De Bisschopsmolen is a historic watermill located just a short walk from the city center, along the Jeker River. The mill has been in operation since the seventh century and now houses a popular bakery where visitors can purchase delicious breads and pastries or enjoy them in the cozy cafe. Guided tours of the mill are also available for those interested in learning about its millennium-old flour production process.
Must visit. The coffee, sandwiches, people, atmosphere ... Everything is amazing here. Even the locality is right out of an 80s postcard. But, reserve a table. The place is extremely crowded and everyone wants to eat here.
Ann O — Google review
Visited couple times and i won’t be lying when i said: reserve before coming (if possible) because the place is small yet everyone wants to eat vlaai here. Other pastries also available (broodjeworst, also a favorite from this place). Recommended to pack some pieces home for your loved ones because you haven’t visited maastricht without vlaai from their place.
Adinda — Google review
Tucked away in the heart of Maastricht, Bisschopsmolen is a charming bakery that combines local tradition with warm hospitality. Known for its freshly baked sourdough bread, pies, and cookies, the bakery stands out for the remarkable freshness of its products. Pies are baked throughout the day, ensuring that each slice tastes as if it just came out of the oven. Next to the bakery, the inviting cafeteria offers a wide selection of pie slices, sandwiches, and beverages. During multiple visits, I had the pleasure of trying both vegan pies and vegan sandwiches, each one consistently delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The staff are not only knowledgeable about their products but also genuinely helpful and accommodating, which enhances the overall experience. Bisschopsmolen is undeniably popular, so expect a lively and bustling atmosphere. Seating can be limited, but the tradition of table sharing adds to the friendly and communal feel. Just ask politely and you’ll likely find a spot. What makes this place even more special is its setting. Adjacent to and behind the cafeteria lies the Wasserrad, a beautifully preserved watermill that underscores the historical charm of the location. It’s well worth taking a moment to explore. Verdict: Bisschopsmolen is more than a bakery. It’s an authentic Maastricht experience. Come for the pies, stay for the atmosphere, and don’t miss the watermill.

A must try Vlaai (traditional limburg pie, one kf maastricht pastry icon!) the strawberry one is really niceee and big portion! We share 1 for 2 people! The mint tea is also nice! They have dine in place with quite small capacity <3 sooo warm also beside there is a beautiful old mill
Mahira P — Google review
Freshly baked fruit pies with the perfect balance of sweetness and flavor. Quality ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere make this bakery a real treat!

SoDelicious is a versatile establishment located in the bustling Stationsstraat, just a few meters from Maastricht's Central Station. It offers a wide range of dining options, from coffee and pastries to hearty lunches and delectable sandwiches. The trendy lunchroom is particularly popular for its breakfast service on Sundays, serving up delicious rolls with cheese and Serrano ham, as well as freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat.
Delicious gluten free tuna melt. There were several options for gluten free food. Very attentive, welcoming and good service. I highly recommend it for breakfast and lunch.
Yana V — Google review
Such a pretty place and great service. Did not really like the food though - I had the avocado sandwich and it looked pretty but that muhammara was intense. Like I wanted to vomit a bit after I ate it. It doesn’t taste bad, it’s just they put a ton of it and it’s overpowering.
Yoni W — Google review
Nice breakfast very delicious. Interesting open kitchen and possible to see your upcoming meal. We went there at 9 am and shortly later started to get busy.

My favorite breakfast spot in Maastricht. I’ve tried 4 different places for breakfast and this is the only one I would like to go their again and again. I’ve tried the french breakfast and the so delicious breakfast both are amazing. The price is reasonable for the quality and the quantity.

SoDelicious is so good! We had a breakfast there and everything was perfect. All baked stuff was so fresh, I especially enjoyed a croissant 🥐 with homemade jam. The staff was nice and welcoming, we were seated immediately even without a reservation.
Oleg F — Google review
SoDelicous in Maastricht beautifully combines a restaurant with a bakery. This was a great stop for brunch and pastries. The restaurant decor is simply stunning and the staff were super friendly and were more than willing to speak English. The coffee is good, we ordered flat whites and they have plant-based milk options available. For food we ordered the pancakes served with maple syrup and fruit. They were delicious and light with some crispness on the outside. We also ordered the Luxe Onbijt wich contains scrambled eggs, bread, French toast, a croissant, youghurt with fruit and muesli and a glass or orange juice. Absolutely everything in this was divine, the French toast was particularly good. To end off our morning we had lovely mimosas. SoDelicious was a great stop and I will definitely be back to sample goods from the bakery!
Prinesh R — Google review
Great spot to grab some delicious lunch or breakfast. The food was very good and the prices were fairly decent for Maastricht standards. We loved the attention to detail such as the freshly baked mini cakes near our coffee. It took some time for our table to get served in the beginning but everything went smoothly after the initial interaction. They also have a bakery with great looking cakes so I would definitely check them out if in the area and in need of some sweets or a nice meal.

Bakery
Le Salonard Maastricht is a renowned bakery with two locations in the city. They are known for their delicious breads and regularly host tastings, which can be found on their Facebook page. Visitors praise the friendly staff and recommend trying the world-famous toasti, made with freshly baked bread, melted cheese, savory ham, and truffle mayonnaise.
We love this shop! They sells great breads and treats. They also have a fantastic assortment of cheeses, wines, meats, oils, and other things. Everything is fresh and of a high quality. The staff is also very friendly and happy to help in a number of languages.
Jennifer — Google review
"Don't believe the social media hype"!!! Really what is wrong with you people? This is an artisan product, which yes, can take a while to prepare but, it is totally worth the wait. The price, I believe is completely justified. Is this the most amazing toasted sandwich 🥪 that I have ever had? A resounding yes would be the answer. Super friendly service and we have placed our bread order for pick up tomorrow morning for our journey back to Hamburg. Do yourself a favour and check this deli out. P.s. the picture does not really do the sandwich justice 😀
Julian L — Google review
What a disappointment! The panini are pre-made by Voncken and come in labelled plastic bags. You’re not getting an artisanal, high-quality product here, but rather a very basic supermarket-style ham and cheese panini. The interior and products in the shop give off a high-quality delicatessen vibe, which unfortunately does not translate into the panini itself. The bread is bland, the ham and cheese are just okay, and the nearly €10 price tag is completely unjustified for what you get. In addition , it took about 15 minutes to get our order — and this was the very first one to be made. To be fair, the delay wasn’t due to inefficiency but simply because the cheese takes so long to melt. On the positive side, the interior design is very charming, and the shop sells a wide range of delicacy products and fresh breads (though also delivered by Voncken, not baked in-house). To conclude: the panini are not worth the hype. We can’t judge the other products, because we did not try them.
Edward W — Google review
An amazing toastie with artisanal produce. We waited 10 minutes, which seems fair. I admit, I wouldn't wait any longer than 15 minutes, but would definitely go again. They tell you the waiting time in advance, so you can decide for yourself.

Café Local is a traditional-style restaurant/brasserie located in the heart of Maastricht's city center, right at the market place with a charming view of the city hall and a small terrace. The menu features local dishes like Meesteechs Zoervleis, which is recommended for its delicious and fresh taste with a hint of sweetness in the meat sauce. The beer selection includes options like Affligem, known for its strong and bitter flavor.
I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal. I started with a vegetable soup that was absolutely delicious—rich in flavor, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. For the main course, I had fish and chips, which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, just the way they should be. The fries were golden and tasty, complementing the dish perfectly. To top it all off, I enjoyed a cold beer alongside my wife, making the launch even more enjoyable. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food served. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and a pleasant atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back soon! 64 € total for whole bill.
Dragos V — Google review
Small cafe with friendly staff. Went here for a bite to eat just before a concert ( Muziekgieterij about a 15 minute walk). The cafe is relatively small with the bathroom upstairs (steep stairs). There is a small selection of food but a good selection. Some special beets available but a limited choice. We started with the Asian Buikspek ( appetiser) which is a relatively large portion. Main course sate which also is good. Good spot for a small dinner.
Ivo B — Google review
Definitely recommend this place! There are seats indoors and outdoors. We ate lunch right at 12 o’clock and it was quite busy but the food came relatively fast. The waitress was very nice and polite and knows English. The food here tastes great, just a tad expensive (most probably because it is in the city center). Would come again!
Iris V — Google review
Café Local offers a truly enjoyable dining experience in the heart of Maastricht. The menu strikes a fine balance between creativity and comfort, with stand-out vegan options such as the vegan bitterballen, crispy, flavourful, and very satisfying. The service is professional and accommodating. Staff members are attentive without being intrusive, and they create a welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home. The ambiance of the café adds to the overall charm, warm, relaxed, and stylishly casual, making it equally suited for a quick drink, a leisurely meal, or an evening with friends. Verdict: Café Local delivers on all fronts, delicious food, excellent service, and a pleasant setting. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy great vegan-friendly bites and genuine hospitality in Maastricht.
Helen — Google review
Lovely spot, we stopped for a drink and treat. I had the apple crumble which was delicious but scolding hot and did not have enough crumble. This would be best served in a larger dish rather than the ridiculous glass tumbler it was served in. Other than that, the food, drinks and service was all good.
YoYo — Google review
Will definitely come again! I came with my family that was visiting Maas for the first time and they absolutely loved the vibe. Their meat and vegan Zuurvlees is absolutely delicious. Also their Truffle pasta was so nice and creamy! And their Aperol very refreshing. The attention and the girls were so nice, very chill compared to the rest of restaurants/ bars in city center (which was very appreciated so you can kinda escape from the chaos). They even said that if we wanted from fried they can definitely bring more and it would be no issue… who can say NO to more fries? Haha Love it 🫶🏼
Melanie N — Google review
Very cosy restaurant in the centre of Maastricht. We were there with a group of 8 people, which they managed to accommodate. Service was very friendly and smooth. All the dishes arrived at the same time and was from excellent quality. Definitely a place where I would go on a next occasion!

waiting for our breakfast more then half an hour. croissant wasn’t fresh. big breakfast was not rich - only one piece of cheese and ham. eggs Benedict were overcooked. we pay 31,70 for two. coffee was not included - very strange…

Good pork schnitzel, but the fries and beer were excellent. We ate dinner in the atmosphere of the old market square. A place worth recommending

The worst Croque Monsieur I have ever seen, I just could not eat it. The waitress said it was ok, she is eating it every day.
Andreas V — Google review
We have eaten here many times. Breakfast, lunch & Dinner. Always good. This visit also. Food; tomato soup, pasta funghi & dame blanche were really tasty. Service a little slower than normal as shortstaffed.

I had a pleasant lunch and the food was as the reviews said. I had a decent glass of rose wine. The coffee wasn't impeccable, but being Italian I'm picky when it comes to coffee.

This place is always nice to sit. Simple but good. When on the other side of the river it's a good place to have a drink or two.
Emma G — Google review
I am no drinker by any stretch of the imagination and never go out drinking in the UK because basically - pubs - which ones are left because a lot of them are closing down, are not the most inviting of places, especially if you are not a local. They can be quite hostile if you are not a local but when walking past Zondag one night during my stay in Maastricht. I saw happy people having a nice time on the outside tables. So, I thought I would take a chance and I ventured inside to have a beer. The bar was staffed by three friendly guys, service was swift and the beer was good. My beer was actually served in an old fashioned British pint glass with a handle - something I hadn't seen for at least 30 years in a British pub. So, I was taken to my environs immediately. So, when it came to payment. Their card reader wouldn't take my card and the friendly barman shrugged and said cheerfully 'We have problems with British debit cards unfortunately' and I said 'well, I have a Chinese debit card, let's try that!' which made him laugh, it made me laugh too as it had less chance of working than my British card but actually, the Chinese debit card kind of works OK in the Netherlands but it is a bit more hit-and-miss than my British bank card as you can imagine (for the record - we tried the Chinese debit card - it didn't work!). The way the bar staff at Zondag dealt with this problem and the solutions they offered impressed me so much that I am on here writing about it and am happy to give them full marks for their service, friendliness and understanding. Thankfully, my British debit card started motoring on the second attempt and I managed to pay for my drinks. What would have happened in the UK if that happened? Maybe death, dirty looks, comments about my dearly missed, deceased mother? More than likely! The chilled out response from my friends in Zondag? Doubtful! So, full marks to all staff at Zondag! Thank you for your understanding and may you have many more happy evenings with your wonderful patrons.
Carlos W — Google review
A nice place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. I really appreciate their wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks - it's not your usual Coke & Sprite. Their kombucha is especially tasty (really sour). The food is also pretty decent, I tried the tortilla de patatas - it was nice but a bit bland and cold. The only thing that really bothers me is their service. I went several times and they barely come to your table once. After that they never come back, even if they are not busy at all. It seems that they do not really care about the customers, which I find annoying. If it weren't for their bad service, the place itself deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, it ruins the whole experience, so if you don't mind, give it a try.
Silvia H — Google review
We ate breakfast here and the food was just immaculate, I ordered the cheese toastie and the cheese was just perfect and very unique (probably the best toastie I’ve eaten in my whole life). The staff were really friendly, I recommend coming early as it gets busy within minutes! From Kuwait 🇰🇼

Gelateria Luna Rossa is a must-visit for ice cream lovers in Maastricht, boasting some of the most delectable flavors in town. With multiple locations, including one nestled in the charming Jekerkwartier, you can easily enjoy your treat while strolling along the scenic Maas River. Another spot near Plein 1992 offers equally delightful scoops, but don’t miss out on their location at Onze Lieve Vrouweplein—it's truly worth a visit!

I really like the ice cream if i can rate i will give those score: Taste: 10/10 Price: 4/10 Service: 8/10 Location: 7,5/10 I think this ice cream is nice to try but just expensive. There is a quality behind the price. I would come here again to try another flavor
Wiby P — Google review
I was so excited when I was inside the 1st time. The man behind the counter was very helpful and patient. I order 2 milk shakes and both of us was happy with the results. So went back again the next day (today). 2 girls was behind the counter this time. Order the same drink. But this experience was different. I paid for a full cup, but when walking out realize that the cup was only half full. Being a tourist. I assume this maybe normal practice. But i have to say. A full cup would have been the proper think to serve. So, I am giving a less then 5 rating. Just recommend you look first before paying.
Ray L — Google review
Ice cream is tasty but the prices are sky high. 14 euro for 4 small scoops. I think it’s greedy, you can give a very decent portion for this amount, .
Jan L — Google review
This ice cream shop is one of the better ones. However, What happened to the ice cream prices?!? 7 euros for two scoops, might be my ignorance but it does take out the pleasure of going for an ice cream.
T. V — Google review
Do not buy their milkshakes. For Euro 7 you get half a cup and like flavoured milk. Server wasn't able to address my disappointment as she had been told that that's the portion control they have to work towards.

Tourist trap! Very nice ice cream. But.... The scoop size are ridiculously small with insane high prices. They also don't speak Dutch! Not even taking an effort into using a single dutch word. Not returning

Excellent bakery! Everything we tried was great. They even had complementary espresso! However if you get an espresso make sure you only take one. The woman got very angry at me when I came back for a second one. I’ve never even seen an angry Dutch person before, they are all so nice. Bad on me I guess, guest coming in to their beautiful city upsetting the social order. Me: one star. Them: five stars!

Excellent pies! The smallest piece they sell is a quarter of a pie (but they cut it in half for us) and it costs around 5€. We had an apple one and sour cherry and both were delicious. Will go again for sure.

Fruit tarts in my pics were some kind of heaven - unusually crispy sugar crystal crunchy outer pastry, delicious cream filling, glossy fruits and lovely fresh mandarin segments on top for €4.5? - first one was so good we ordered a second which was the last one on the shelf. Serve yourself coffee in a paper cup. Coffee filled to about half full - espresso may be smaller. You can sit inside to eat on a narrow bench for two if tables outside are wet after rain - busy shop looks like all women making beautiful pastries.

A must go-to when you are in Maastricht. The vlaai is delicious and all the pastries are just amazing. I’ve had the peach and the cherry vlaai and they are so yummy. I’ve bought other bigger cakes for birthdays and every one of them is just yummier than the previous one. The service is great, the patio seating is perfect and they give you free coffee for the purchase too! It’s very lovely to see the different decorations they have depending on the season
Anto B — Google review
One of the best bakkerij in Maastricht. They have very good fresh bread, croissants, pain au chocolate and Vlaai of course. You have to take a token and wait in line on Sundays and the weekends. They have the best pudding and Rice Vlaai in the city. There are also seasonal Vlaai which use seasonal fruits and ingredients. I would suggest ordering in advance if you need larger quantities
CrticalTraveller — Google review
I used to live in the neighborhood and this was always my go-to spot for vlaai. In my opinion, it’s hands down the best vlaai in the city! My absolute favorite filling is the apricot with pudding — so good. Their croissants and pains au chocolat are also absolutely delicious. One tip: if you’re visiting on Dutch Father’s/Mother’s Day or other big celebration days, it’s best to order in advance or be prepared to wait in line, as the selection can be limited. But trust me—it’s worth the wait!
C M — Google review
Very popular bakkerij in town, and for very good reasons. Great products, always fresh, the team is always welcoming you with a smile & they do amazing traditional Limburgse Vlaai, easy to order online for pick up. Sometimes, on peak hours, there's a queue, but if you are not in a rush, it's totally worth the waiting. 120% recommended
Arturo P — Google review
we really wanted to try rice vlaai and kept seeing recommendations for this bakery, so we stopped by in the morning. we ended up buying a whole (small) one since they were freshly baked, still warm, and couldn't be cut yet. the person who helped us was very nice about this it was tasty enough, bit bland for my tastes, although i suppose we haven't had any other rice vlaai to compare to 😅 we also got a sausage roll here for breakfast and i was extremely dismayed when i bit into it as it was ice cold. probably straight from the fridge. i've never experienced this from a bakery before - usually if something is cold, they'll ask if you'd like to heat it up, right?

Eclair Affair is a patisserie that offers exceptional eclairs. Despite the initial perception of high prices, customers are treated exceptionally well and the flavor of their eclairs is extraordinary. The dough is remarkable, and the filling, particularly hazelnut-flavored in this case, is abundant. A visit to Eclair Affair is highly recommended as their eclairs are worth trying.
This is truly my favorite pastry shop I know, every time I go to Holland this is my first stop. Such delicious eclairs that when you eat them you feel like you are in a dream. Thank you for such delicious sweets. I recommend the eclair st.honore and Millefeuille
Veronika V — Google review
OMG!!!! I consider myself lucky for discovering this gem 💎!!!! If you want to have a real French patisserie experience (but in Maastricht 😉) here is the place! The cakes AND the ice cream are simply DELICIOUS! The high quality of their ingredients, you can actually taste it in their products. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. He even told us what’s to visit and he even gave us a few tips where we could eat. Next time in Maastricht, I know where I will have my dessert 🍮! You should too! 😉
Ramona S — Google review
Excellent service, wide range of flavor options and each option is super delicious! We found a taste that we could not find in most patisseries in this eclair store. Birthday eclairs instead of birthday cake 🥰
Esin Ş — Google review
To be honest the pistachio eclair was pretty, but that’s about it for me. For the price (5 euro) I expected higher quality cream. I definitely wouldn’t go back, and if I did I would try a different one. Or ask if they’ve updated the filling recipe. Gorgeous in looks, just didn’t deliver for the cost paid.
Never N — Google review
Felt this to be a bit over-hyped place (1 eclair is for 5.5 euros!). Since we went at 4.30 pm - we received a bit hardened Eclairs - ingredients were fresh though. Interesting try.
Madhura P — Google review
Here, the classic eclair is brought to art level. You can choose from many flavor combinations and you will not be disappointed by any of them . My favorite was the Earl Grey. They have as well the best ice cream in town. The owner is extremely friendly adding a big plus to the welcoming atmosphere of the establishment . It's a must if you vist the town

Koekmakerij 't Keukske is a charming cookie shop in Maastricht that has garnered rave reviews from both locals and visitors. The warm and buttery cookies, presented with reheating instructions and care for quality, have left a lasting impression on many. Visitors have expressed their love for the delicious flavors such as milk chocolate and pistachio, as well as the friendly service provided by the owner. The use of local ingredients adds to the appeal of these heavenly treats.
We were the first customers so we got the cookies when they were still warm. They tasted amazing! We got one of each flavor. The white chocolate lemon flavor was very interesting. The staff was nice and friendly. We were happy that we tried. 😊
Nhi D — Google review
Look, this cookie strutted into my life like it was ready to change everything—and to be fair, the base cookie is delicious. But let’s talk about that “blueberry and lemon” situation, shall we? Because baby, I was promised a zesty, fruity affair, and what I got was a Where’s Waldo of lemon and a blueberry witness protection program. I bit in, expecting Beyoncé-level citrus sass. Instead, the lemon whispered, “Hi… I’m here. Maybe.” And the blueberries? Blink and you’ll miss ‘em. I’ve seen more blueberries in a basic muffin from a gas station. And don’t even get me started on the price. For that money, I expected to be personally serenaded by a blueberry while lemon zest was grated over me like parmesan on a fancy pasta. Would I recommend it? Honestly, yes. Because it’s still a good cookie. But if you’re expecting a full-on fruit explosion, manage those expectations, honey.
Floww — Google review
THE ORIGINAL ONE IS BESTTTT! The other flavor we think are just okay and more towards too sweet, but the cookie texture is nice! Chewy and crunchy 🍪 love it!

I was vacationing and introduced here by my friends who are locals. I was so impressed by the shop, the friendly service, the deliciously warm and buttery cookies and presentation. Loved that they come with instructions for reheating to perfection and storage. You can tell the owner cares about the quality of the product and your enjoyment. I ended up returning for cookies for a dinner I was hosting and made a special trip to bring some back to Los Angeles. Everyone loved them! These are so needed here! Every flavor delicious and they make such a beautiful gift with very nice packaging for someone special! Definitely would recommend stopping by.

I have my own cookie shop so I’m very strict on what I think is a good soft baked cookie. I will say the butter they use is fantastic and you can taste it in the product. The chocolate they also use is not cheap compared to what you see in America. I follow this same concept and appreciate when other places do the same.

This charming spot specializes in creating stunning cakes for special occasions, including unique wedding creations that draw inspiration from flavors around the globe. Visitors rave about their red velvet cake—considered by many to be the best in the Netherlands—alongside other delectable offerings like carrot cake and salty caramel brownies.
The best cakes and pastries in Maastricht. The red velvet is our absolute favorite and the best in all of the Netherlands in my opinion. They also have specialty cakes and take specific orders for events (weddings, parties) Some of them look so good, I would be afraid to eat them! The carrot cake is also very good. It's focused on take away though and there is no seating in the store
Chubato — Google review
Fantastic little place with some of the most divine tasting cakes and cookies. Simple yet elegant and tastes amazing! Not so sweet that it gives cavities and every bite leads to more! Staff is super friendly and lovely! There is no sitting area, it’s more grab and go which is perfect. Parking can be a problem because it’s street parking so first come…but it’s worth it!
Ket T — Google review
If you're a fan of sweet treats, you'll LOVE Ginnie's. They offer a wide variety of cookie flavours, different types of brownies, banana bread, and cupcakes. You also have the option to order custom cakes. We have visited multiple times, and we personally love the fudgy salted caramel brownie, the traditional chocolate chip cookie and the biscoff caramel cookie; they are exceptionally good. We didn't like the banana bread and cinnamon twist as much, as they were a bit dry. The matcha and bueno cookies are not as good as they look. However, we are being very critical. Overall, Ginnies offers a sweet treat for all tastes, and if you know what to choose, you'll be happy. Be sure to visit in the morning to ensure you have the full variety on offer, as the cookies often sell out.

Tasty, although, there is way to much butter cream for a small cake like this. Very thick butter cream layer and just a tiny for the other crème. Last but not least, Slightly overpriced for a butter cream cake.

Georg M — Google review
Was gifted a lovely little red velvet cake for my birthday, the sponge and cream cheese filling was delicious! And the decoration so cute :) The only thing I would suggest to improve on is the buttercream. Even just refrigerated normally it goes far too hard. I prefer a creamier texture (to match the rest of the cakes’ texture), as most mouthfuls were soft cake, soft cream cheese and then a chunk of hard buttercream. Other than that, I do love the value and other bakes this bakery creates - the cookies are really good!

Nestled in the heart of Maastricht, Chris’s Micro Bakery emerged during the COVID pandemic and has quickly become a beloved spot for bread enthusiasts. Renowned for its mouthwatering sourdough loaves, this charming bakery also offers a customizable brunch menu featuring an array of French breads, buns, baguettes, and bagels. What sets their creations apart is the use of natural dyes like beetroot and pumpkin, enhancing both flavor and aroma.
The best bread in Maastricht and the best sourdough so far in the Netherlands. They use sourdough in everything so it's always tasty and filling without all the standard bread bloating afterwards. It is more of a takeaway place and unfortunately, they don't have decent (fresh) coffee yet. Regardless, you must try ALL their baked goods

It‘s a really nice bakery with very good food and coffee. The bagels were freshly made an with a lot of ingridients and love :) You can see the love and craftsmenship in this bakery. Chris was also very nice and welcoming! I would recommend going there and getting a pistachio babka.

Best sourdough bread and bagels I've had in years!! They gave me a cookie to taste and the taste was irresistible! I started with a nibble which quickly turned to gobbling the (large) cookie down in one sitting. The staff is so friendly and clearly excited about their new endeavour. Hope they keep up the enthusiasm and quality. HIGHLY recommend.

The food is very inconsistent, bought cheesecake multiple times. Loved it the first time, but then every other time the sizes and tastes were not good, which is frustrating as you are paying for the “same” item each time. For €5,80 you would really hope to get the same good quality slice of cheesecake.

Bought two slices of Basque cheesecake for 11€. The cake had completely horrible consistency and fell apart when they were putting it in a box. It was also, for some reason, very salty and close to inedible. To be fair, I had tried the focaccia here before, which was fine, but I expect a batch with such obvious low quality not to be sold to paying customers, especially for this price.

I went there to buy the famous vlaai from Limburg. But only had the picture from the Rijstevlaai (my favourite). The prices are good taking into account quality ans size. (Rijstevlaai = 5.50€; fruit vlaai = 4.25€). The service is really nice and friendly. The only thing I found really inappropriate is the fact that people working there touch the food with their hands without gloves, which is not hygienic. Amazing coffee served in an exquisitely decorated coffee shop. We enjoyed a soy flat white and a normal flat white. The coffee was really good. We had a slice of their banana bread, it was divine. They also sell waffles, pastries, brownies and some cakes. The breakfast menu has other items with eggs on it if you're looking for a full meal. They made me pay 16 Euro for two small cups of ice cream. You'll get them for exactly half the price in other ice cream shops in the city centre.
Tullio V — Google review
I recently had a disappointing experience at Luna Rossa. As a student, spending €6.50 on a cone with two scoops of ice cream is quite a lot for me, and unfortunately, it wasn’t worth it. The scoops were incredibly small, which made me more angry than happy. The flavors I chose were very underwhelming, which was even more frustrating because the staff member with piercings didn’t let me taste them beforehand. Additionally, the order in which the ice cream was scooped was incorrect, which negatively impacted my overall enjoyment. I ended up throwing away half of the ice cream, something I would never normally do. Overall, it was a regrettable visit.

My husband and I attended chocolate tempering workshop and it was amazing (and tasty 😋). We got to know a lot about chocolate itself and learnt how to create bon bons, chocolate rolls and chocolate animals figures. The time flew really quickly. It was very nice meeting Arnout! Definitely recommend!
Ekaterina — Google review
Arnout was a fantastic host! We learned a lot about different wines (and regions) and how they fit together with his amazing chocolate types. He made the whole experience interactive and even built in a quiz to test your knowledge upfront. We thought it was also very good that Arnout noted down our feedback and is willing to consider it for his next recipes and workshops. He is an expert in his field with a ton of knowledge and in addition makes his guests feel comfortable with his friendly personality. A hidden treasure on the outskirts of Maastricht! Highly recommend. Thank you, Arnout!

Attended the wine and chocolate workshop a while ago and exceeded our expectations by far. We had a wonderful time with high quality chocolates and wines. It was a super personal and informative experience. I still make use of the knowledge gained. Would always recommend this experience for smaller groups.

My parents and I visited Arnout for a chocolate and wine tasting - it exceeded our expectations! I have attended wine tastings before and often find them intimidating; however, Arnout makes it a fun experience where there are no right or wrong answers. The variety of wines and chocolate are perfect combinations, and we all came out with a better understanding of not only how the products are made, but what we like! All three of us would suggest this tour to anyone looking for a relaxing, tasty and fun afternoon :)
Mattea W — Google review
2 of my friends an me visited the atelier. As intro he had a little quiz about manufacturing chocolate, which was quite interesting and nice arranged. After that we did the course step by step together. No one worked alone in his/her corner, but we did everything together, which was very interesting, because he had many more facts and details to tell. All together we needed more time (4h) than told online (2h). I will use my new knowledge in the future at backing new cakes. So it is not only nice to know, but usable knowledge. At the end of the course I bought as much chocolate as my money allowed me. It tastes just like heaven on earth. If you are interested in chocolate and have a little time left, go to K&K and take the course.

Pinky is a popular waffle spot in Maastricht, with multiple locations near Vrifthof Square. The aroma of freshly baked Liege waffles draws visitors to this charming establishment. There are indoor and outdoor seating options available. While the variety of flavors is extensive, some patrons particularly enjoyed the coffee and Oreo options, although the tiramisu flavor received mixed reviews. The staff is known for their friendly service and efficient operations, accepting both cash and card payments.
Wide variety of interesting ice cream flavors. Waffles are also nice and fresh! 😋 The staff is friendly. 😊

Pinky serves up some seriously delicious waffles that almost taste like the original – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just the right amount of sweetness. My top recommendation? Go for the chocolate sticks or Nutella as a topping – they really take it to the next level! Personally, I skip the powdered sugar, but with all the other options, you’ve got plenty of ways to customize. If you’re in the mood for a tasty waffle, Pinky is a great choice!

Nice place good ice cream. Near parking. They have many thing can choose.

Ice cream is nice, young lady working there as well, but old lady is a bit rude picking up stuff while it is still not finished. Does not share wifi to customers and also has this attitude which makes you feel unwelcome
Djordje S — Google review
Pinky is a place from my university years! It is still growing but not getting older. I love the waffles, I think they are great. You can be even feel happy with the smell of waffles when you are passing by. I like waffle with powder sugar but I can also recommend the ones with chocolate.
Ece G — Google review
Fresh waffle smell filled the place. There is a small table inside, and a few tables outside. The location is very nice, right in the center. As for the flavours, there are many to choose from, i liked the coffee flavor, as well as the oero. However, the tiramissu flavor tasted a little weak. The staff is friendly and service is really fast. You can pay cash or with cards.

Ice cream shop
Chocolate shop
Marks is an artistic ice cream shop in Maastricht that emphasizes sensory experiences. They strive to offer pure and authentic encounters that deeply resonate with your soul. This establishment stands out for its high-quality and delectable ice creams, which are not just visually appealing but also a treat for your taste buds. Instead of the typical multicolored piles, Marks stores their ice cream in cylinders with lids, indicating their commitment to quality.
Incredibly tasty ice cream! You must try it! The variety of tastes is not huge, but every one is worth to try. Don’t know why, but it is known as Australian ice cream. You could also order waffles there and coffee. You could seat inside, outside or have a takeaway. Also, there are good selection of chocolate to buy as a present.
Natalia R — Google review
Pretty good! I had a chocolate waffle, the place is very aesthetically appealing and cozy. I really recommend!🧇🍫

Great selection of ice creams! They have: vegan, gluten, and lactose free options too!

Best creamy ice-creams in Maastricht.
Sagar B — Google review
I only have the best to say about Marks. I was so excited to find dark chocolate vegan ice-cream, which turned out to be delicious. Berry and coconut were amazing as well, creamy and refreshing. Others I did not taste but I am sure they would be as fantastic as the ones I had. Super friendly people as well, cannot wait to go back.

Must be the best icecream in Maastricht and surroundings! Their products aren't made for the eye but for your taste buds - here you won't find big heaps of multi-colour icecream, their ice cream is stored in cylinders with a lid (often a sign that such a place is worth trying). Innovative flavours - but selections such as "olive oil with basilicum" or "gin with raspberry" are not gimmicks - they really are delicious. Definitely an ice-cream parlour to visit!

Decadent ice-cream. Super vegan and gluten free options. The salted caramel is divine! Friendly staff. Will be frequenting the shop.

Ice cream shop
Lunch restaurant
This ice cream shop, IJssalon Venezia, offers delicious products that are freshly prepared daily. Their scooped ice creams are made using a traditional family recipe without any artificial additives or vibrant colors. It is known to be one of the best local places for ice cream, particularly their mocha flavor with cream in the scone. They also serve pancakes which are popular among kids for lunch.
This is a really cool place—kind of a family-friendly diner with an emphasis on ice cream that is gelato-style, in a wide variety of flavors. Many people were enjoying large and inventive sundaes on the Saturday I visited, but I was on the move, so I got a cone to go. Very scrumptious!
Andrew R — Google review
Just sublime. Wonderful food, nice staff, clean and very nice atmosphere. Gluten-free options are available. They make sure of any cross contamination by making questions.

Totally delicious and generous. Lovely staff and a lovely "gezellige sfeer"! Highly recommended.
Michael S — Google review
I wanted an ice cream with 2 tastes. I asked to try grapefruit (just 1 taste) , and I was answered in a very unpolite girl, a young weitress, "you cannot try it!!". It never happened to me that a gelateria doesn't let you try 1 taste and I never experienced something so unpolite, like that weitress. After that I did not take the icecream anymore, and we will not go there ever agian. They probably do not care that they lost 2 clients, but for me was important to tell everyone.

Topzz is a charming spot that started as a small ice cream parlor and has now expanded to offer vegan noodles, broth, tofu, and vegetables. Visitors can craft their own vegan noodle soup here. The dairy-based ice cream is also a highlight. Guests praise the fresh ingredients and diverse selection of soups, with the option to customize your own bowl. The frozen yogurt with various toppings is particularly popular.
Love this place! Nice taste of yogurt icecream and noodles. And the owners were so kind that made me happy. Definitely want to go here again

What a delightful small soup and frozen yoghurt shop. All ingredients are fresh and there is a wide variety of soupz to choose from, or if you wish, build your own soup. I had the spicy beef soup and it had a good kick to it and was delicious - perfect for these cold winter days. The frozen yoghurt with fresh fruit was also delicious.

Such a great idea! After a hot freshly assembled cup of noodles, there's frozen yogurt and fruit toppings so conveniently in the same place. Takeout Restaurant
Bakkerij Paulissen is a charming bakery offering a variety of quality bread, traditional pies (vlaai), and cakes. The friendly staff provides excellent service and can even prepare fresh sandwiches. It's a great spot to grab breakfast with loved ones, and their fruit vlaai comes highly recommended. While the bakery offers an extensive selection of bread, some visitors have noted the absence of milk alternatives for drinks. Nonetheless, it remains a popular choice due to its good service and delicious products.
At the end of a long trip all around Europe we decided to head into Netherlands from Belgium for breakfast to add another country to the list on the way back to Dunkirk. We found the Bakery through Google maps as the only place that seemed to be open for breakfast early Sunday morning and in easy reach of the Belgian border. It was all perfect, the best breakfast of pastries and coffee we had in our two weeks away and the staff were friendly and helpful speaking better English than we do and definitely better than our Dutch! We stocked up with more pastries for the road. Toilets were lovely and clean as well. Perfect place to pop in for breakfast, delighted we did!

Lovely bakery, lots of choice of breads, rolls, pastries and tarts. Also cafe on site. The cafe served rolls, soup and pizza slices with a large range of coffees, teas and pastries. The staff who worked 16th of July was very quick and slow. I had to wait for ordering Panini kip and club paulissen for more than 15 minutes. Also the food wasn't as good as usual. I ask the administration not to leave new staff without the supervision of a manager or other experienced employee, so as not to spoil the overall impression of the establishment.

(Translated by Google) After a hot day in Maastricht we cycled past an ice cream shop. Nothing special from the outside, but inside it was already clear that it was a 5* ice cream shop. We were helped nicely and I chose banana, Malaga and another flavor (my memory fails me here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was hazelnut.) Large buns, which they can follow in the Randstad. and most importantly: excellent taste. Worth repeating. In fact, on the next visit to Maastricht I will plan this brasserie on the way back 🚴🏾‍♂️🚴🏼‍♀️ as a culinary resting point. And for those who love it: don't hesitate, have it with whipped cream!

Ice cream shop
Smullies * Ijssalon * Patisserie is a unique and popular spot in Maastricht, known for its delectable collection of pastries and surprising ice cream flavors. Located near the Groene Loper, it has become a favorite among locals and even renowned chefs like Servais Tielman. The shop offers an array of treats including macarons, chocolates, sorbets, and soft serve ice cream.
Has to be the best ice cream and what a cute shop. They have plenty of seating and a restroom as well. Staff communicated so nicely and I so appreciated them making us feel welcome and sharing more about their relatively new ice cream shop. We can't wait to visit again!

I stopped by Smullies in Maastricht recently. After sampling a few of their flavours, the Pistachio one stood out the most to me and I’d give it 8.5/10
Andy L — Google review
The place has not just delicious ice cream, but also absolutely amazing desserts & pastries. The prices are quite high but the quality, taste and visuals of the available food makes it worth it. Would highly recommend visiting the place.
Jeroen K — Google review
Had a really good service here, which is also important to me. Now when it came to the "quirky and unique concept", I remained a bit hungry. First off, the ice cream options were not at all that unique, except for maybe one or two (ruby chocolate raspberry and hazelnut dulce de leche). I had the feeling they are playing on safe here. I mean, the flavors were quite okay, but having read about it on beforehand I expected something more. Second, to give them a new chance I tried two of their 'big boy macaroon' and they were even more dissatisfying. They were really clumsy to eat (even more so if you're clumsy yourself, like I am) because the macaroon was too hard and the cream filling too soft. Even the taste was just ... it could've been more in every way. I get that you have to cater to a larger public and I believe the ideas are there but you just need to dare to go bigger. At least for those people who are looking for that quirky and unique character you advertized. Let the flavors explode, I'm very willing to pay for that.
Sven V — Google review
It would be great if they also offer vegan ice cream (not only sorbet as alternative, this is not ice cream)
