Nestled in the vibrant West End, STUDIO EAST Asian Gastropub is a culinary gem that beautifully marries Nova Scotia's farm-to-table ethos with bold Asian flavors. This trendy spot offers an eclectic menu featuring everything from sushi and ramen to unique takes on burgers and curries. One standout dish is their popular fermented short ribs, available exclusively on Tuesdays, which showcases their innovative approach to fusion cuisine.
Fantastic food in a great neighbourhood. Service was very quick and friendly. It’s a pretty large space. The pork belly bao buns were really good, along with the potato dumplings! My friend is vegetarian so we got all veggie apps to share and they were all good. A good array of food options for all preferences. Would come back for cocktails and appetizers with a larger group! Side note: they make a great Shirley temple

My friends and I had a fantastic experience. We took a chance and walked over, not expecting to get a table, so we were thrilled when we found one open. The food and drinks were all amazing—everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices. Despite being busy, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming. The restaurant does an excellent job of showcasing the flavors of Asia. We'll definitely be returning soon to explore more of the menu.
Donna B — Google review
What an absolute gem in our beautiful city! The food was unreal, the flavors, the freshness; this restaurant is on an entirely other level. The staff were amazing, so friendly, so prompt and really took great care of us! We will be back for sure!
Erin S — Google review
Reservations recommended, we went on the long weekend. We Ordered the house sticky ribs, crispy calamari and shrimp for starters. Both were delicious but the ribs were a hit. My husband ordered the pork ramen which he loved. I got the rice bowl with the fried chicken which was delicious. My friend got the chicken karaage as a main. I would come back to eat here.
Linda T — Google review
The food here is AMAZING. The burger wasn't my favorite, but it was still absolutely delicious. If I had a "complaint," it would actually be the french fries. They're normal frozen crispy fries. I'm not sure if the parm on top is with the extra money, but it sure is delicious. The reason I say the fries are disappointing is because everything else is so delicious. Seriously, you have to go here! The boa buns, the dumplings, the drinks, those ribs! All amazing. 🥰
Adrienne L — Google review
I drove 14 hours from Ontario just to have dinner at Studio East. The food flavour always satisfying. Cool funky atmosphere here. A must stop destination if you love good food and vibe.

Soooo delicious and very accommodating for allergies!!!!! Strongly recommend the chicken karaage. Can’t believe it was gluten free. Cocktails were great too!

Wow the food here is SO flavourful!!! Everything we had was delicious. I definitely recommend you try it out (and get some bao😍)!

Two If By Sea Cafe is a cozy downtown Dartmouth spot known for its delicious coffee and tea drinks paired with sweet and savory baked goods. The cafe's buttery croissants are a must-try, available in various iterations such as the delectable pain au chocolat filled with quality chocolate or served as a savory breakfast sandwich. They also offer unique croissant specials like the roasted red pepper and goat cheese, along with creative spins like a croissant-based sandwich inspired by a Big Mac.
I was recommended to visit Two If By Sea Cafe when visiting Halifax for the week. We ordered two croissants to share, a matcha latte and coffee. Service was great and the food was awesome. It is a very busy spot, the vibe is great!
Ryan B — Google review
I stopped by Two if By Sea cafe, and while it was a hip spot, I left feeling somewhat underwhelmed. The cafe itself is trendy, but seating is limited, so be prepared to grab-and-go. I ordered an iced matcha latte, but unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. The flavor was just average, and I've had better matcha lattes elsewhere. On the bright side, the croissants were a highlight! They're huge and flaky, and the almond croissant was perfect for me since it wasn't too sweet. However, I have to say that the plain croissant didn't impress me as much - I've had better ones from Costco (and you can't beat the value there!). The Nutella and raspberry danish were just okay - nothing special. Overall, I'd say Two if By Sea cafe is a solid choice if you're in the area, but it's not necessarily a destination worth seeking out.
Raia S — Google review
A really nice cafe, got there just when they were bringing out their fresh batch of pastries and man they are huge. The provolone croissant was bigger than my hand and the chocolate croissant was also very large. Loved the outside seating and their food and ambience.
Arnold D — Google review
🛑 BEST CROISSANTS IN CANADA! 🛑 if you are visiting Halifax do yourself a favour and cross the bridge into Dartmouth and go try these croissants! Best you’ll ever had! Won’t regret the trip over! You’re going to want to go back to visit Halifax only for these croissants! Don’t forget to pair them with a Cafe Moca, they’re great as well! Hint, go early! By 1:00 pm or so, they could sold out!
Gian B — Google review
We really enjoyed the coffee and the numerous varieties of pastries. We had the pain au chocolat and a everything croissant, and it was delicious. The vibe was also very nice, we sat upstairs with all the paper plates with art on them, we had a good time looking at the drawings! The americano is great, will go again!
Arielle R — Google review
Not really sure what the hype is about. The croissants are too dense, the flavor is good but croissants are supposed to be light and flaky. These were far from it. We have tried the prosciutto cheese one and almond croissant. Wouldn't purchase again but their coffee was good and people nice. Also, there is pizza place upstairs - definitely recommend it
Jana K — Google review
You will not find better croissants. The problem is choosing which one. The pain au chocolat is deliciously and generously filled with milk chocolate. The Everything Bagel flavored croissant is amazing as well, filled with cream cheese. This time around I had the special, which was a pumpkin cheesecake croissant. A bit sweet, but oh so good. The seating isn't super comfortable, but if you can snag a table by the open window it's nice. Very busy spot.
Shawn C — Google review
Such a cool little spot. Coffee was fantastic, staff was so friendly. Hands down the best chocolate croissant I’ve ever had. Definitely adding to our fav world coffee list!

Coffee shop
Located in a 20th-century shop in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, LaHave Bakery is a popular spot offering fresh bread and coffee. The bakery's products are widely used in restaurants and cafes across the province. Housed in a landmark that was once a fish processing plant, the bakery provides a charming setting to enjoy delicious food and scenic views by the water. Visitors can also take the ferry across the LaHave River to reach this delightful bakery.
Stopped in for some breakfast, food was delicious and staff were great. There wasn’t a lot of vegetarian options for my friend. The breakfast burrito I don’t believe mentioned it came with potatoes on the side or that the bacon was on the side. It would have been handy to know the bacon was separate from the actual burrito so that my friend could have ate it, given being a vegetarian. Had fudge brownie for dessert, also delicious.
Bri — Google review
I always go here whenever I visit LaHave. The coffee never disappoints, and I love the old lady atmosphere 💅 however. First, the butter tarts I tried were really hard and felt old (I might be wrong ¿), and second, I would love to spend more time inside, but the main sitting area has little to no air circulation and the air smells moldy… I think it would be nice to do at least some sort of renovation and/or a deep clean, because headaches are no fun ☝️😔
Daria H — Google review
We stopped by this bakery and tried a few things - I had a coffee, pizza, and a hand pie, which were all okay. My partner got a breakfast sandwich that was decent as well. They did have a nice variety of squares, although I didn’t try one, and the little local shopping section was fun to browse. We sat outside to eat and the view was lovely. I’d heard a lot of buzz about this place, and while it wasn’t bad, I honestly don’t understand what all the hype is about.
Sonia D — Google review
During our vacation in Canada, and especially in Nova Scotia, acquaintances advised us that we should not board the ferry without first visiting The Bakery. We quickly understood why. It is a bakery with a traditional, nostalgic atmosphere. It also has a terrace and, behind the shop, a beautiful old bookstore and a self-service grocery store. So, I am passing on the "order": do not board the ferry without visiting the Bakery. 😊😋
Arie D — Google review
This local bakery cafe is absolutely amazing. It has that old general store vibe. The staff are friendly and the food is great. Fresh baked goods, fresh produce, bulk goods and a selection of frozen meats and meals. Well worth the drive.
MoH C — Google review
LaHave Bakery is a gem! My favourites are the fancy grilled cheese and the mango chicken sandwich—both absolutely delicious and packed with flavour. The potato wedges with tomato aioli are dangerously good, and while I didn’t include a photo, their oat cake is hands down the best in the Maritimes. Consistently fresh, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. A 5/5 bakery experience every time!

Canada's Eastern seaboard is full of amazing jewels and gems. Add this Bakery is one of those amazing jewels. Good tea and good coffee combined with good food a great atmosphere amazing knickknacks and some wonderful sales people makes a stop here is well worth the time.

Have the ginger cake with lemon icing and zest - incredible 10/10. Always a lineup here, and it's obvious why. Delicious homemade baked goods, really pleasant places to sit inside and out, and a grocery, a craft shop and bookstore in the same building. Greek pizza was delicious, and the ginger cake was pure and simple and had perfect texture.

Sip Cafe Yarmouth is a local gem that started as a small kiosk in the area and quickly gained popularity for its wide selection of loose leaf teas. The cafe offers over 100 varieties of tea, making it a go-to spot for tea enthusiasts in Acadian Shores. Visitors praise the friendly and efficient staff, as well as the reasonably priced menu items. Additionally, patrons rave about the delicious flavor shots available at the cafe.
This is a great place if youre looking for a peaceful afternoon watching it go by with coffee. Great staff, aesthetically pleasing, great coffee. Food is great, selection of sandwiches, wraps, to-go snack cups. Their cookie and muffin selection is vast. For sure come grab a cup.
Ryan M — Google review
The coffee is ok, but there is much better coffee in Yarmouth in the immediate vicinity. The snacks here are recommended. The store is nicely decorated.
Marei B — Google review
Coffee is fine but their wraps have really not held up to the task. The chicken curry wrap was plain rice not even spiced with a few bits of chicken. The roasted pepper hummus had NO pepper but only large chunks of red onion not even diced. Hummus was only on one small part of the wrap. This is not the quality we are used to; we were told the chef is new. But training is a must as the food is a bust.
Leontine A — Google review
On our visit to Yarmouth, we stayed at the downtown area and Sip was at a walking so we tried their Hazelnut Latte and Caramel Macchiato, both were amazing. The next day we wanted tea and to our surprise they had a huge collection of loose tea. We tried their earl grey and Blueberry tea bothwere great. Highly recommend Sip Cafe.
Rinku G — Google review
Love love love this place. Been here for the past 5 days straight and can’t wait to come again. 🤩 They have a great selection of flavour shots (my fav is salted caramel & cookie dough). 🍮🍪 The staff are super friendly and fast! I’m from Vancouver & was surprised when they remembered my order on the second day. 🥰 Everything is also reasonably priced :) Needless to say, I’m kind of obsessed and love this place!
Andrea C — Google review
Coffee is good as are some of their snacks and desserts. I also had a smoked salmon breakfast wrap which was absolutely terrible. The service isn't the best, always feel that I am burdening staff with my order, could just be a hipster barista thing.
Ahmad — Google review
Didn't enjoy the hotel coffee, so I walked a short distance and got myself Sip's americano. Delicious! Also try the apple pie. It's not often that I ask for a breakfast sausage panini and a slice of pie. No regrets. It's a pretty chill atmosphere with lots of seating. Interior is basically wood. Like having a Vancouver cafe in Yarmouth.
Johnny D — Google review
The selection of teas available at Sip Cafe is incredible. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. There was a nice ambiance to the place where patrons can hang out, grab a bite to eat, or work on their laptops.

If you're looking for a delicious and nutritious sandwich, check out Old World Bakery And Deli. They have a wide variety of sandwiches that are perfect for lunch or dinner, including lamb and taziki sauce. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the food, making it easy to choose the right sandwich for you.
My wife is a vegan, so we searched for that and found this gem. The second we entered we were enthralled with the entire vibe. The decor, the materials of construction, the layout, the mild ‘60s music, and the overall peaceful feeling all combined to set the stage for what was about to come. We began by chatting with the owner. He is so gracious and kind - we learned about the vegan offerings as well as the non-vegan choices. I loved the Yarmouth Beef on white bread. She devoured her veggie sandwich on brown bread. The selection of contents for each sandwich was large, so much to choose from. They are very generous with the proportions. We had more than enough! For dessert I enjoyed a plum muffin. I hear ya’! When was the last time THAT was on the menu‽ It was scrumptious. I enjoyed it with a cup of handmade hot chocolate. A great combination. Would we dine here again? I exclaimed, “I’d move IN here!!!” If this was in our town we’d be regulars for sure. We’ll have to settle for this superb vacation memory. The Old World Bakery and Deli will forever be our new standard for what every bakery/deli/coffee/hot chocolate shop should be.
Rick S — Google review
Delicious fresh made sandwiches on their own bakery buns (we chose sourdough) - generous amount of fresh roasted white chicken meat and lovely roast beef with your choice of deli cheeses, with any fresh toppings (green or red pepper slices, onions, lettuce, tomato etc) - was delicious! Amazing old building and old deli style feel in the space - would be fun if we could see the bakery activity (which I believe is upstairs). Thank you!
Sheila Y — Google review
First off the Sandwiches were so delicious 😋 So nice to have fresh ingredients. I had the chicken sandwich on sourdough bread, no sauces and all the available veggies and smoked Gouda, and my husband had the roast beef on sourdough with his choice of toppings and cheese. Sooo good and filling. But, even though the sandwiches were delicious I was so amazed about how outstanding the customer service was from start to finish. The service was top notch. Atmosphere and ambiance cannot be beaten. Will definitely be returning again and again. Definitely worth 1hour to 2 hour drive .
Michelle H — Google review
I ate here twice. They make great sandwiches.
Mel J — Google review
Another great opportunity to support local businesses and farms in Yarmouth! Superb customer service with knowledge about the food and health benefits of the food they prepare! Today I had the lamb sandwich on multi-grain bread with fresh romaine lettuce, green and red peppers, feta cheese and topped with taziki sauce! Not to forget the Baklava that was so good that I forgot to take a photo! They currently have a limited menu but with still so many salads and other options that it is hard to choose! I guess I'll have to go back again and satisfy my curiosity!
Saline P — Google review
We are from Pictou County, and our kids are in karate so travel for tournaments. This shop was introduced to use 4 years ago by another parent,so every time we go to Yarmouth this is our go to location for lunch, excellent sandwiches and other baked goods and look forward to it as soon as we know we are heading this way.
Crazysteved88 — Google review
Easily one of the best places to eat in Yarmouth. The food is delicious, fresh, and REAL food. Bread is baked fresh in house, and the soups and stews are to die for. You are literally always granted service with a smile and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is phenomenal. I recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious and filling meal!
Stacey M — Google review
Fresh ingredients, good location, clear entrance and exit following Covid protocols. We ordered a sandwich and muffin to share. The price was pretty steep coming to $20 plus tax and tips for just two items. I wish the muffin was warmed up for a few seconds in the microwave prior to being served, because both the sandwich and muffin was cold, which we weren’t used to for a breakfast meal.

Steve-O-Reno's Cappuccino is a popular coffeehouse located in Halifax, known for its delicious coffee and breakfast/brunch options. The cafe offers a variety of house-baked pastries, sandwiches, and customizable breakfast plates. It's a small and vibrant spot with a cheery atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a cappuccino or frothy beverage along with baked goods.
We stopped in for breakfast. Man, what a place! A quaint, little, community spot where they know your name. We walked in and people sitting, having breakfast smiled at us. They had a simple menu beautifully drawn on a blackboard; fantastic and very healthy options where no one could go wrong. While we were ordering two of the best cappuccinos we ever had, someone accidentally dropped their coffee and the whole place turned to look at what happened. The owners put the man at ease by name and everybody got the sense that they really meant when they said that it was, “OK, not to worry.“ Great location, great ownership, great food, and great atmosphere. Highly recommend. ando
Ando D — Google review
The food is not bad but it's not worth the experience. The service was poor, we arrived at the place and we were totally ignored, we had to chase a waitress to ask if we had to be seated or we could take a table ourselves (the two people at the bar looked directly at us and completely ignored us). It seems to me the people at the kitchen had to do everything (from cooking and serving to cleaning up) while the people behind the bar just take orders (they won't do anything beyond that) It's really disappointing because we found that people in Halifax are very friendly and helpful. My suggestion: walk around the corner (not even 2 minutes!) and go to an Italian cafe nearby (we had the best Devil's Chocolate cake there).
Mario P — Google review
My wife and I visited Halifax from Toronto and Steve-O-Reno is hands-down our favourite coffee shop for breakfast. We came here for breakfast 3 out of the 5 days we were in Halifax. Their pour-over single origin coffee was incredibly well-brewed and their latte was also fantastic. The barista definitely knew what he was doing. All the pastries and bread were fresh and delicious. My wife bought 3 different scones and all of them were big and tasty, so were the bagels and muffins that I had. The coffee shop had a great atmosphere overall as well. Truly a gem in the city!
James Z — Google review
The smoked salmon and avocado benny was perfectly done and the cappuccino had a great medium roast flavour. Service was very good. A lot of character in this restaurant. I only wish it were open until later as it closes at 2pm.
Danny Y — Google review
Steve-O-Reno's seedy oatcake is quite possibly the best oatcake in Halifax (in NS?... the world?). It was so good and a pretty hefty size so you are getting a good deal for your money. The cappuccino was great too and beautiful to look at. They have a sweet patio where you can tuck away in peace and quiet with a book for a little while. Though they close a little earlier than most places (2 pm on saturdays), they were pretty relaxed and did not boot anyone out right at 2 pm on the dot. Great background playlist too. Thank you Steve-O-Reno's people!

Had a lovely salmon bagel here, it’s a lovely little spot for brunch or lunch. A limited menu of bagels and sandwiches but what they do they seem to do well.

Just a stone's throw away from where we were staying at Prince George Hotel, this is quite the busy spot according to my wife. My eggs Benedict was absolutely FABULOUS. Her choice equally GOOD, along with our respective coffees.

Amazing spot ! Visited this cafe on our trip to Grand Pré Historic site. Just next to the exit 10 of highway 101. The café is set in a stunning location with breathtaking views that create a serene and picturesque atmosphere. Whether you're seated indoors or on the outdoor patio, the scenic beauty around you is truly mesmerizing. The place is huge, very neat and with clean washrooms. Ordered iced Latte, Hot coffee, cookies and scones for kids, everything was so flavorful. with a menu that offers a variety of delicious options. Overall, Just Us! is a hidden gem that combines excellent coffee, great service, and an unbeatable view. I highly recommend this café to anyone looking for a relaxing and scenic spot to enjoy a quick bite or a coffee. I'll definitely be returning soon!

I was in the area today for work and decided to finally stop in and try this place after driving by it for years. Lots of seating, bright, open space. I wasn't hungry so I just had a coffee but all of the treats looked great.
Christopher P — Google review
We stopped in here on a Thursday morning looking for some coffee and drinks and were well rewarded. I got a decaf cappuccino, and I am always on the lookout for a good, flavorful decaf coffee, since many taste like brown water. This decaf was good, I’d say it’s now my second favourite brand, and I’ve tried upwards of 20 brands, Canadian or otherwise. My daughter got the strawberries & cream Sea Freeze, and that was quite sweet but also nicely creamy (since they use actual cream in it). We also bought a candle from Lawrencetown Candle Co., Chai Latte, which smells great (very strong spice smell). Overall a great place to stop in the Grand Pré area.
Samantha D — Google review
Came here this past weekend and ordered the Salted Caramel Latte. It was delicious. My wife ordered an iced vanilla latte and she really enjoyed hers as well. We also ordered a Ginger Molasses cookie to share and it was amazing. The space is big and was very clean. There was a bit of a line up while we were there, which tells me it’s a popular place (always a good sign). The lady that took our order was very friendly, but the barista who made our drinks could have been a bit friendlier. I don’t know if it was because she was having a bad day or not, but when she called out my order, I watched her slam my drink down and the foam from my latte came up through the cup lid and I had to wipe it off, because she had no intentions to. She also made zero eye contact and did not respond when I thanked her. Overall we enjoyed our drinks and cookie to go. They do have a museum that we wanted to check out, but after the encounter with the barista, I did not feel like asking about it.

Great coffee with a local touch Just Us! Coffee in Grand Pré is the perfect stop for a quality caffeine fix. The coffee is rich, smooth, and full of flavour, clearly made with care and freshly roasted beans. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. It’s also great to know that Just Us! is a local roaster with a commitment to fair trade and sustainability – you can taste the passion in every cup. A wonderful place to start your day or take a mid-afternoon break.

Really good! This café is a bit of a dying breed in that it’s very maximalist: the atmosphere, menu and service are all ambitious but the team does a great job of delivering on that ambition. The classic breakfast sandwich was voted best in Halifax and it’s easy to see why! The coffee was pretty good too! A must-try in Halifax for sure.

I visited this place because of its high rating but left a bit underwhelmed. The seating inside felt cramped, and the chairs were uncomfortable and some were even broken. I ordered the egg Sammy, loved the challah bread, but it was awkward to eat. The bagel sandwich wasn’t very fresh, and the coffee was pretty basic. For the prices, it felt like just another overhyped breakfast and coffee spot. The bakery items (spicy walnut scone and peach cake) on the other hand, which I believe are outsourced, were actually quite good!!

We loved our breakfast bagels and coffees from Dilly Dally! I ordered the Veggie Bagel, and was overly thrilled with how delicious it was! The atmosphere was so cozy and charming, it felt very welcoming, like you could hang out all day. It was super busy when we were there, but the service was still very friendly and quick! I would highly recommend visiting Dilly Dally if you find yourself in the area!

Small coffee shop with options for quick grab and go items or more traditional served to table breakfast sandwiches. The shop has close quarters, so during peak hours you may have to use the outdoor seating (which is still quite nice!) Limited parking (two spots adjacent to the shop.)

Great coffee shop that seems to always be very busy, but we lucked out in getting a table and didn't have a wait. The Canadiano (bonus points for not calling it Americano) was excellent. I had the bacon and egg croissant, which was delicious. Bacon was thick and a bit chewy, but not overpowering. The wife had a butternut squash soup which had a really nice curry kick, and was served with some delicious soft bread. The lemon babke was great too. Definitely recommend, but be prepared to wait a bit because it was very busy!

What a special little spot! So much on the menu and the cafe was beautiful. It was so good, we barely had room to sit down. Loved it!

Love the vibe of this place. Eclectic feel, little Dino 🦕 figurines hidden everywhere, excellent vegan options. Had the BLT and made it vegan. They added seitan bacon and avocado. Every ingredient was thoughtfully seasoned. Plenty of plant milk options available. Highly recommend.

Poached egg salmon sandwich was good. Chai latte was fantastic. Matcha was great. You need a key for the washroom.

Located in Charlottetown, Receiver Coffee - Brass Shop is a popular spot offering ethically sourced coffee and freshly made baked goods. With two locations, it has become a go-to destination for coffee dates and casual meetups. The menu features a variety of breakfast options that change regularly, including items like breakfast club sandwiches, crepes, Eggs Benedict, and breakfast nachos.
A must go for breakfast if you are in the area! We had a wonderful experience with our server Ella who was super knowledgeable and gave us really great service! The breakfast sandwich was fantastic as was the egg Benedict with the added smoked salmon.

Lovely spot! Bright & friendly. Quick service. Kid & pet friendly (patio for pets, water bowl outside). Great coffee. The menu has options for different dietary needs including gluten free & vegetarian. On-site parking available. I had the yogurt with berries & granola and a London Fog. Recommend both!

Extremely slow service for such simple dishes. It took 30 mins for things to start coming. The BLT and eggs Benedict were decent, but the receiver breakfast and grilled cheese + soup were not good at all. Potato soggy, bacon overcooked into chips, and rock hard toast.
Bruce — Google review
-This is an odd, not a coffee shop, even though it looks like one. -Receiver has food and sit down table service, along with a lot of baked goods, that are top notch. And coffee. -Coffee is ok. Baked goods definitely worth checking out. Sourdough, lemon tart, butter tart, and another one we had were all excellent. -The identity crisis of coffee, baked goods, and food with table service is confusing. Wanted to sit and enjoy coffee, but then you’re taking up table space. There’s tables eating, and then there’s just ppl there working on computer.

Lovely, bright space to enjoy a quick meal of a nice coffee! I always really enjoy their Moroccan rice bowls, and their freshly baked breads are a staple! Their staff are attentive and thoughtful. Lovely place!

A very enjoyable breakfast with great food and coffee. Atmosphere was ambient but able to talk. Quesadilla tasted fabulous with a perfect balance of different ingredients and flavours.

The taste level of their espresso is top notch. If you are an espresso lover, I recommend the iced latte with half the milk to fully taste the espresso. Chefs kiss. The breakfast sandwich SLAPS, definite repeat order every time I visit. The bread, the bacon jam, the pickled onions, all work!!

Nestled in the vibrant North End of Halifax, Almonak is a delightful spot that elevates traditional breakfast and lunch favorites. This charming venue features a relaxed atmosphere with an inviting patio, perfect for enjoying their extensive brunch menu. From the iconic eggs Benedict to indulgent fried chicken French toast, every dish is crafted from scratch using top-notch ingredients.
A lively spot for brunch. They were very accommodating in seating us as a walk-in, despite being very busy at the time. Food was delicious, and there were specials on offer as well. The only slight disappointment was that the $6 add-on of roasted potatoes was dry and bland.

We were looking for a spot with a dog-friendly patio for brunch, and we’re so glad we picked this place! The food and coffee were both great — I just wish the portions were a bit bigger.
Amir S — Google review
Found the Almonak as we were going to be in Halifax for the day. Greeted by the coolest “linebacker” ever! Then proceeded with the most fun waiter ever! The meal was spectacular. I don’t say that lightly either. We’ve been on the road for two months (across the US, toured Newfoundland for a month, and just now heading back home to California) and have stopped for breakfast/brunch countless times and this was easily #1. I ordered the Gouda, Bacon, Caramelized Onion Eggs Benedict that came with roasted potatoes and a green salad - YUM! I can’t say enough about this contemporary and innovative cafe, so good. My only tiny issue is that they need some noise dampening medium/fabric to quiet it a bit. I’d return in a heartbeat though if it were closer to California!

I came here to work one morning and it was such a lovely spot. The service was great, the food was good, and the coffee was absolutely delicious! A wonderful place to relax or get a bit of work done.

Good food and great coffee, a lil pricey. We were a big table and they waited until after we ordered a second cup of coffee to tell us that we need to leave since we exceeded the 75 min on the table. I've been to some resturaunts where its dine and go vibes from how popular and busy they are. But they wait until youre done eating and their service is super fast so you get the hint. I just felt annoyed that they waited until after the 2nd cup of coffee was ordered and served to tell us that we need to leave. My sister had no time to drink it, it was super awkward. Then we had to reach out to staff for a to go cup, I wasnt sure if they expected she would chug it or just leave it untouched. But besides that hiccup in service. The food and coffee were great thats why we asked for seconds.

We had an impromptu stop at Rose & Rooster after spending a night locally for a birthday celebration. We were pleasantly surprised to find such a great place to stop and have breakfast. The staff were very friendly, the ambience welcoming and of course.. the food was excellent. Ice cream shop
Candy store
Sugah Confectionery & Ice Cream Emporium is a popular waterfront candy shop known for its iconic Moon Mist ice cream, a delightful blend of banana, grape, and bubblegum flavors. The shop's confections and ice creams are handcrafted using century-old techniques and pure ingredients, including unique local elements like sea salt from Nova Scotia's Atlantic Coast and dried cranberries from Lunenburg County. Located on the Halifax Boardwalk and Public Gardens, Sugah!
The location is perfect—right on the waterfront, so you can enjoy a scoop while taking in the beautiful ocean views. The ice cream itself is tasty with a variety of flavors that hit the spot on a warm day. But what really sets this place apart is the charming little souvenir shop attached. They have a great selection of gifts, perfect for picking up something unique to remember your trip. Whether you're craving something sweet or hunting for a cool memento, this spot covers it all. Highly recommend!

COWS icecream is so good! It’s very creamy & their serving sizes are just enough to fill you up. They have many different flavours to choose from with descriptions of what is in each flavour on their website (they have a QR code you can scan on location) so you’re aware of any ingredients in case of allergies or personal preference. This location also has lots of merch you can purchase & also other milk related products to purchase. They also have multiple employees working especially at peak hours so sometimes the line will be out the door, but wait times shouldn’t be too long. I’d highly recommend trying it out

I’m not usually an ice cream person, but this small ice cream chain really won me over. Their ice creams are rich, flavorful, and have a wonderfully creamy, milky taste. I enjoyed them so much that I visited three times during my stay in Halifax!

It claims the best ice cream in Canada. Only way to know for sure is a coast to coast train trip to find out. Maybe @downielive is ready for the challenge

Tried it . Not worth the price . I cannot say that is bad but even a simple flavour like chocolate it s not intense and it s 7 $ dollars for one scoop. At Deedee I pay 7$ with a nice waffle and 2 big scoops that really taste good . I grow up in Italy so I know something about ice cream . And I can definitely tell that the price is not realistic. Other than that staff was nice .

Lots of space to sit, one of the few places that closes at 6pm which is nice. Tried the starberry milk latte which was nice though a bit on the sweet side. Good place to do work and they have a space in the back that seems like it is also nice to chill with different vibes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5 for everything except the matcha) This café is absolutely amazing — great coffee, super friendly staff, and perfect service. Everything here is 10/10! But the matcha… unfortunately, it’s really bad. It tastes like cheap powder, has a muddy color, and no real matcha flavor. The funny part is, the price is the same as at Starbucks — but Starbucks’ matcha tastes a hundred times better. Please, get a better quality matcha — you deserve it, because everything else in your café is perfect! 💚

Finally went here on a weekday morning to try out the breakfast. While the food/atmosphere isn't too notch, I literally don't think there is currently a cheaper diner breakfast in Halifax. Like, I think this is the cheapest. 7 bucks for eggs, meat, toast, hash browns... MWAH 🤌🏼 Give this place a try, the vibe is nothin fancy, the food gets the job done, and to be honest I quite liked it. (Maybe just be more generous with the hash browns next time )
Bodhi A — Google review
It's the best value meal on the Halifax Harbourfront. Nothing spectacular about the food, but it won't hurt your wallet. Clubhouse sandwich uses real turkey, albeit a bit dry. Has an outside patio that looks out at the waterfront and the overpriced $30+ lobster roll shack, the opposite of this place. Or take out and sit at one of several tables on the waterfront. Weekdays only.
KM — Google review
I wanted to eat lunch on the wharf. I have passed the Summit Cafe many times and wanted to try it. I had the club house sandwich and it tasted good. The turkey is real not deli sliced which is a huge positive. There is spinach instead of lettuce. Great value for its location to the wharf. The prices on the menu all looked reasonable. I look forward to trying breakfast sometime.

Very basic but charming and relaxed little breakfast place. Food was SUPER good and got to our table surprisingly fast - I typically associate long wait times with breakfast restaurants but I was proven wrong here. Service was equally excellent. If you're nearby for the Buskers festival, this place is a phenomenal way to start your day.

What a great find!! We were told by a local vendor that Summit Cafe is where the locals eat. Large servings, good prices and great tasting food. Kinda hard to find but follow the signs.

This place is all about comfort food at comforting prices. I stopped in for a quick hot breakfast and it was delicious. The patio might be the best on the whole waterfront. I wonder if this place is a secret to anybody who doesn't work in the building. There's just a small subtle sign by the stairs on the boardwalk. Definitely a spot worth seeking out

I stopped in for a quick breakfast and unfortunately left quite disappointed. I ordered the French toast, which appeared to be little more than plain bread given a brief dip in egg. The dish was undercooked, lacked any real flavor, and overall felt rushed. For something so simple, I had expected much better.

Couldn’t find a better set of baristas. Willing to educate and offer advice. I tried something outside my comfort zone. It hit really hard and I’m glad I went there. Cute shop well worth it for those that value good espresso (or those like me that just want to try something new). Not any seating but enjoy at the coffee bar in the window.

During my week trip to Halifax, this became my go-to coffee spot. Delicious coffee, warm, friendly staff and could tell there was a good community vibe there with all the people stopping in to chat. Even do a meeting here. Only stand-up room but there are places along the wall to set your coffee down. Had an americano, latte and mocha latte. Treats looked tempting and a colleague mentioned they loved them. Also chatted with the staff about resto recommendations which were so helpful. Highly recommend and will go back next time I’m there.

Lovely little espresso bar. Friendly service and the best flat white I’ve had in Halifax so far. Not really any seating, but that’s a good excuse to head down to the water with a coffee.

Pretty good coffee - worth a try if you’re visiting. Tiny spot, so no seating. I’d rate it 4/5 - the latte was good, but at $6.50 for a medium, it’s on the pricey side. Nice as a one-time stop for tourists, but probably not a go-to for locals like me.

Came in based on the high rating. Ordered the red velvet cheese cake. The cake was dry and stale including the cheese cake part itself. It had no flavour. For over $8 + tax, it was not worth it. There was no service to even comment on.

On July 1st, I urgently needed a birthday cake for a friend around 4–4:30 PM. After calling several bakeries with no luck—most didn’t have any ready-made cakes left at the end of the day—I reached out to Piece of Cake. To my surprise, someone kindly offered to try and make a cake within 30 minutes and asked for a bit of time to confirm with their delivery person. They followed up shortly after to confirm that delivery would be possible. The entire experience—from the prompt and clear text communication to the on-time delivery—was absolutely seamless. The cake itself was delicious and beautifully made. It truly saved the day, especially since I live in Calgary and couldn’t be there in person. I really appreciate their incredible customer service and willingness to go above and beyond. Highly recommend!

The Atlantica Hotel Halifax offers a luxurious stay with its polished accommodations and four-star rating. Situated in the heart of Halifax, it provides convenient access to various city attractions and boasts stunning views of local parks and the waterfront. The hotel features an indoor pool, fitness room, and a restaurant/bar, ensuring guests have plenty of recreational options. Additionally, its central location allows for easy exploration of nearby landmarks such as Citadel Hill and Dalhousie University.
This hotel was a great choice for a work trip. The staff were kind, helpful, and held my luggage after checkout, even offering tips to make the most of my limited tourist hours. I’d definitely return. The room was clean, and the pool was especially nice—warm, clean, and likely saltwater (I didn’t notice any chlorine smell). The hotel overall was well-kept. A couple of small drawbacks: there was early morning construction outside (not the hotel’s fault, but disruptive—it started earlier than what’s allowed where I live), and the hot tub had some visible brown staining along the walls. It could probably use a deep clean, so I’d recommend checking the hot tub above the water line before hopping in. Otherwise, a great stay and a place I’d confidently book again.
Amanda K — Google review
Absolutely phenomenal. I stayed for two nights with family. The room was clean and so quiet: remarkably quiet for its location. Its location was great. Easy to walk to stores and the Commons, and it was easy to use public transportation with stops within meters of the lobby. The highlight were the customer service and the pool. Staff were so kind and helpful (and I asked for lots of help lol). The pool was the best pool I’ve experienced in a hotel. The water was like bath water and not overly chlorinated and the hot tub was perfect. There were tons of comfortable seating and space to relax. Overall this was a great experience. Thank you Tania and Atlantica staff for creating a welcoming experience and comfortable stay.

stayed at this beautiful, newly renovated hotel and absolutely loved it. The design has a Great Gatsby vibe, with thoughtful touches like complimentary snacks and drinks that made the stay extra special. The gym and swimming pool were also a big plus. Tania and the rest of the staff provided excellent service throughout, which really stood out. The hotel is located in a quiet area near Central Park, offering both convenience and a beautiful view. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I’d happily return

Clean rooms, super comfortable beds. Lots of room, and a large TV. The hot tub was a residential style hot tub, and was small. Only fits 4 to 5 people comfortably. The pool was nice and the fitness room was small. Location was about 25 minute walk to Harbour area. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops nearby. We were on the 15th floor and could hear traffic from Robie St. which was weird for being so high up. Also, for "4 star" hotel, they only outfit the rooms with plastic cups. Why not a decent glass tumbler?

The location suits the neighbourhood that is in and it blends in well with the surrounding atmosphere. When we first arrived, Tania at the reception desk was absolutely fantastic. You could see the pride in her face in the way that she lit up when she described the amenities and all of the locations that we had discussed visiting. The lobby area and restaurant are very inviting and the rooms are very well appointed. We would definitely return and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at the Atlantica almost a month as i was undergoing treatment at QE2 hospital. It has been a wonderful experience! Haris at the frontdesk was so helpful and kind and made a massive difference during a dark time in our lives. The restaurant staff was gracious and accommodating and the renovations make the space feel warm and modern. Will definitely be staying at the Atlantica again!

It was a fantastic stay. The staff are so wonderful, friendly and helpful. Even with all the construction going on in the area, the hotel was pleasantly quiet. The pool is fabulous. The restaurant (the Cannery), the food was delicious and the staff were wonderful. I will definitely book this hotel again.

This is a great spot, everything is top notch. Very clean, modern (but not annoyingly so), large rooms with comfortable beds and quality linens. Staff are wonderful and it's worth getting the breakfast package add on - the restaurant is a highlight. Location works, it's a $10-12 cab ride (which comes quick and at the push of a button at the front desk) to the waterfront, with lots of sights and donair shops around and in-between .

The Westin Nova Scotian is an elegant waterfront hotel located in downtown Halifax, offering comfortable rooms with complimentary WiFi, as well as an indoor pool and dining options. Overlooking the Halifax Harbor and cruise ship terminal, this historic property was built in 1928 as part of the Canadian National Railways collection of Grand Railway Hotels. The hotel's classic elegance is complemented by modern amenities, providing guests with a sense of luxury and heritage.
We missed our connecting flight and ended up booking last minute at the hotel. I shared the situation and the guest services advisor Maria made sure we had an amazing overnight stay by providing cheesecake and a handwritten card in the room. We also got an upgrade to the junior suite as per my Platinum benefits which made the experience so much better. The suite was spacious and the bed was comfortable. We had a great sleep. We also got a late check out which allowed us to nap before our flight in the evening. The hotel is situated next to the Halifax harbour which has many shops and restaurants as well as boat tours. Best location! I’d definitely recommend this hotel.

We just spent 5 nights at the Westin Nova Scotian. Fabulous place to stay, although it is at the far end of the Harbourfront, so a longer walk for older folk, like us. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Of special note were: Scott, Maksym, Sanath and Lily, in the bar; servers Cammy and Tracey in the Seaport Social restaurant (fabulous food, by the way!); Asmira from housekeeping. Thank you to them and the rest of the team (under the guidance of Glenn Bowie, general manager), who made our stay so memorable!

Had a lovely 8-night stay with our two Goldens. There are 4 great strengths to this hotel: unfailingly helpful and professional staff across the services. Second, Bellhops in particular very welcoming and friendly to our dogs, as was the general manager. Third, the waterfront location is great. Fourth, the bromine pool and whirlpool are perfect, as well as gym They just need to be open for a bit longer at night. Downsides: the room was small, as was the closet, which also has an auto-shut which is really inconvenient. The plumbing is outdated. Simple amenities that should be basic are: more hooks to hang clothing or towels, or add towel bars; more hangers; a microwave, and slippers. As well, the cards to open the rooms and use in elevators don’t read that well. As to atmosphere, this seems to have become more and more a convention centre, with constant large groups everywhere and in elevators. and hanging out in the lobby with their drinks, and loud parties tolerated there can be heard in the rooms, ostensibly allowed until midnight This is not the “experience “ or “wellness “ that Marriott touts. It isn’t elegant or restful and doesn’t provide a little extra, such as a complementary breakfast We enjoy the hotel especially because it is so welcoming for our nice dogs and puts us at a really lovely and tastefully developing waterfront. Westin and Marriott need to capitalize on guests’ appreciation for this city, which conventions will not care about

Currently staying here, staff have been great and the room and location are lovely. Just one constructive piece of feedback-please install EV chargers in your main parking lot. We picked your hotel as we thought we could use the one in front but it seems it’s for valet only! Other than that great spot!

I've stayed at the Westin Nova Scotian multiple times this year, and as someone who spends at least a third of my life in hotels, I've become particular about what makes a place worth returning to: solid value, actual comfort, walkability, and ideally, a restaurant that doesn't make you immediately search for alternatives. The Westin checks all those boxes—and throws in pet-friendliness for good measure. The hotel itself is beautiful, bright, and recently renovated. Well, almost everything. The fitness center requires navigating a peculiar elevator tucked away in what feels like a completely different building, as if the gym is in witness protection. But the rooms? Quiet, spacious, and outfitted with those signature Marriott down comforters that make leaving bed feel like a personal failure. The on-site restaurant is legitimately excellent—good enough that I eat there even when I'm not staying at the hotel. Breakfast is solid: the buffet does the job with a live omelet station and rotating options, but ordering from the menu gets you the real highlights, like seared duck frittata or what might be the best avocado toast in the city (smoked salmon, poached egg, the works). Happy hour is even better—dangerously so. My wife and I once ordered one of everything, assuming tapas-sized portions. They had to push another table over just to fit it all. The baos and mussels were standouts. The jackfruit? Once was enough. Parking is slightly odd—it's around the corner behind the building—but accessible via elevator, and conveniently shares space with the Hertz rental center. The building also houses a few independent vendors (spa services, boutiques, home decor consultants), though they're not formally part of the hotel. Location-wise, you couldn't ask for better: minutes from the waterfront, blocks from the city's best restaurants. A car here is optional at best. If you're Marriott Platinum Elite or higher, upgrades are surprisingly easy to snag, even during summer, unless there's a major convention in town. There are only a handful of hotels in the world I'd return to without hesitation. The Westin Nova Scotian is one of them. In fact, my experience here was good enough that it played a part in why I moved to Halifax.

We spent four nights at this hotel with three adults and were only partially satisfied. Upon arrival, the lady at the reception desk was unfriendly. We were neither greeted nor shown any form of sympathy. We had booked breakfast for all days via booking.com. We were given vouchers for two adults and two children. When I complained, I was told that this was always the case and that we should clarify with the restaurant ourselves whether two children count as one additional adult. I felt stupid and started to ask questions. The receptionist explained to me that breakfast can only ever be booked in combination with children and that it was our fault. After a lengthy discussion, we were finally issued vouchers for three people. Overall, the room was dark and musty, with an unlit storage room for suitcases and a wardrobe. It certainly couldn't be described as beautiful at least it was clean. The “highlight” was the breakfast. In principle, it was delicious and the room was very nice. However, there was an incident: I was standing at the omelet station when suddenly a mouse climbed down the curtain next to the chef. Mind you, in the breakfast room with an open buffet?! After pointing this out, several employees were called and supposedly set traps. Especially with open food, something like this should not happen. This is a serious hygiene problem and not acceptable! We will not be returning to this hotel or recommend it.
Verena B — Google review
Had a wonderful stay. Our harbour view room was spacious and exceptionally clean, giving us ample views of the 6 cruise ships docking in port. Front desk and valet were courteous, helpful and professional. Our servers at Happy Hour, dinner and breakfast were attentive to our dining needs. Our only complaint was that the food at the breakfast buffet was luke warm at best.
Claude D — Google review
I was disappointed with the quality of my room during my stay at The Westin Nova Scotian. The room felt clean but there were several elements that felt dated and below the "typical" Westin standards. The food and service in the hospitality spaces were great. I had very positive experiences with the restaurant and room service staff. The location was perfect - very accessible to downtown attractions, food, and activities.

The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites is a historic landmark in Halifax, welcoming guests for over 85 years. Located near the Halifax Public Gardens and within walking distance of the Citadel National Historic Site and the city's harbor front, it offers refined accommodations with modern touches following a recent refurbishment. The hotel's old-world charm is preserved in its remarkable lobby, complete with stately doorkeepers, topiaries, and grand chandeliers.
I felt compelled to share my amazing experience at the Lord Nelson. I stay here from time to time and as always my experience is great. I had to give my appreciation to all the staff who work very hard. From the bell man who treated me and was ready to assist. The house keeping who kept everything clean with a smile. Last and certainly not least the front desk who from check in to check out provided their amazing hospitality. In particular Bidhan was very helpful and I just wanted to take the time out to show my gratitude.

My husband and I stayed here on a recent vacation. It was very, very nice. The room was spectacular, the staff, friendly and helpful. The area had everything, restaurants, shopping, and beautiful gardens right across the street. If you are in the area, and have the opportunity to stay here, do it. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for a lovely stay .

We have visited several hotels in Halifax area, and selected the Lord Nelson for our event. This is a very nicely renovated hotel with great event space and excellent service. Hotels food is usually 5 out of 10, but the Lord Nelson gets 10 out of 10 from our international attendees and that means a lot. Meals were healthy, delicious, and artfully decorated. The event manager, Jahnia, was above and beyond helpful, ensuring a smooth event operation, setup, and addressed all our requests in a timely fashion. The crew on the ground make the experience a great one and makes us come back. Shout out to Amir at the catering service with being on top of everything and helping with all our needs. We had a great experience and happy with this choice.

Couldn't have been better. They upgraded us to a king suite for our anniversary, even left us wine and chocolates in the room. Everything was tasteful, spotless, and comfortable. The staff was very attentive, and the hotel itself is a historical classic train hotel, with all the beautiful wood, brass and marble accents. The location across from the public gardens was very convenient. We'd stay again, and definitely recommend to friends.

So many things went right with my stay at the hotel from Sept 16 to 19th. Check in was very positive. A sweet, smart an chatty reception agent. She gave me a beautiful room on the 9th floor. She really shined by sending me a handwritten note in my room a couple days later welcoming me to Halifax. In the note was reference to why I was in town, and wishing me the best. I was very touched and still have the note in my briefcase. My room was excellent. Nice to open the fridge and see all I needed for coffee waiting inside. Comfortable couches and bed. Shower was excellent, lots of pressure and roomy. Nice quality amenities. Very quiet as well. Easy parking, but if I had a few bags, I would drop them in front of the hotel with the bell man and then park. Humping a few bags in an unfamiliar parking garage, and then the trek to the actual hotel could start you off on the wrong foot. The hotel is right across the street from the Public Gardens. A great place to take your morning coffee. The real kicker about my stay was that I forgot about the three shirts I had in the wardrobe. I called and the hotel sent me my shirts by Canada Post with only the postal charge. Legendary service. Can't use names, but the person I spoke to about my shirts was as nice and sweet and the front desk person. The location is great for nightlife as well. Only a ten minute walk to be in the heart of the Halifax restaurant/bar scene, but nice and quiet by the hotel. Again, many thanks to the hotel staff for not only a great stay, but for sending me my shirts. Highly recommend.

Standard hotel room. We stayed Saturday night and there was a wedding on so hotel was busy. Elevators are very slow, lucky we were only on the third floor so we took the stairs! Walls are thin, we are woken up in the middle of the night by loud guests and children in the hall - Saturday night so what can you do. No breakfast included but there is a restaurant as well as a McDonald's, Tim Hortons and Starbucks just around the corner. Good location, right across from the public park which is lovely, short walk downtown to restaurants, bars and the seafront. Easy car parking underground for a fee. If you pull up in front they will give you a card to access the underground right away, then there is a drop box when you drive out after check out.

This is our second time staying at the Hotel, our first time was in February and our experience wasn't great. We decided to give it another try. This time everything was perfect. Danielle and her staff did a great job in making our stay a great experience. Danielle, thank you so much to you and your staff. We will be back!

Great old railway style hotel. Beautiful and historic in common areas, with rooms fully renovated and up to date with little kitchens and living areas. Perfect combo. Fun neighborhood, walking distance to all of downtown and waterfront. Easy driving access too. Secure underground parking. Priced really well for our stay. We would easily stay here again.

Hotel Halifax is a modern business hotel with free WiFi, a restaurant, indoor pool, and meeting spaces. The location is perfect for families as it provides easy access to downtown waterfront, Citadel Hill, Historic Properties, and other tourist attractions. Guests can enjoy the on-site heated pool that opens at 6:00 am and a fully equipped gym. Additionally, the hotel's connection to an indoor walkway makes it convenient for exploring nearby malls and businesses even during bad weather.
I had a delightful two-night stay at this location. The convenient on-site parking was a plus even tho it was paid, and the bar and restaurant were a lifesaver, especially during inclement weather. The staff were pleasant and efficient, and while the rooms were a bit dated, they were spacious and well-maintained, especially considering the price. The hotel had a wonderful ambiance overall. I would recommend it to anyone seeking an affordable option in this area.

The room was likely the best we have stayed in. Comfortable bed. Clean room. Ecstatically it’s dated but ok. The location is perfect. No breakfast included. There is a restaurant (Tempo) on location. there is also a Boston pizza. Right on Barrington st many places to eat. Staff were very friendly. Helpful. It’s not a high end hotel but for a night or two it’s fine. Parking is not free. There is a fee

Had a great stay at hotel Halifax. Yes they are under construction and as a result amenities are unavailable, however our room was freshly renovated with a comfortable bed, beautiful patio with a view of the harbour, and spacious shower. Staff were extremely friendly, providing free coffee and snacks in the lobby as well as bringing us any requested items throughout the stay. Location is great and we would definitely return. Only negative was we found the pillows to be quite bulky and would recommend regular size pillows be provided.

It's a decent enough hotel with little to complain about. Staff is always on it, rooms are clean. Just beware that if you're booking through a 3rd party (e.g. Expedia), that the prices are deceptively competitive. This is because Expedia isn't great at communicating about things like parking fees ($25/day) and pet fees ($35).

Wonderful stay at Hotel Halifax. Our room had the King size bed, medium firm. I recommend everyone sleep on a bed like that when away from home. We had the best sleep. I highly recommend booking your next trip here. I also want to appreciate the filtered water stations on each floor. They're very helpful and located near every elevator on each floor. The hotel is situated in an urban environment and perfectly connected to the mall food court and Enterprise Car Rental in the mall, and only just steps away. Very convenient for travelers not wanting to walk around the city with their suitcases looking for car hires.
Mike K — Google review
The rooms are very basic. We stayed in 613. Our toilet was always running and wouldn’t flush properly. There was a huge crack in the tile on the shower, and the shower had stained marks from the shower mat that were permanently there. The carpet had stains and the bed squeaked like crazy. But they had a nice big smart tv that you could cast too and the windows were big and nice. The hotel staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and were quick and efficient. And the location is great for walking distance trips down town.
Shannon W — Google review
Overall, for the price point, can't complain. Staff were great, the restaurant had good food and was reasonably priced. Decent location in terms of being close to the harbour and other tourist attractions. Little tricky getting around due to construction but looks like once that's done it will be great out front. Rooms need updating. Bed was older and not overly comfortable...and small pillows for a king size. Dated decor and a bit musty smelling. A staff member did mention that the place plans on renovating in the future. Hopefully they do. Would have given 5 stars if they modernized abit. Parking garage was tricky at first but once we figured it out, good to go! Would go back in the future if they do end up upgrading the rooms.

This hotel has amazing staff! From the front desk, to security to the restaurant. Hands down one of the few places we have stayed where the customer service was outstanding everywhere you turned. For this I give them 5 🌟. We stayed in a king size room. It had a view of the lovely courtyard and was very clean. Highly recommend!

Its OK. Positive - LOCATION, easy to get from. Airport transit, Staff nice and the Restaurant is hopping, Lobby is clean rooms water pressure and shower head great. Negative Rooms are dated, showing major age, mattress were so squeaky and sheets did not fit mattress, major stain bottom side of mattress, no fan in washroom, vents were dirty, Sauna in women's bathroom did not work Its a solid 3 not anymore than that.
Melissa P — Google review
There is definitely a reason this hotel has a no refund policy. It is dated but not in the quaint or charming way, more in the “maybe it has not been updated since the early 90s” way. My room had bugs, which was a nice little surprise I did not ask for. Housekeeping only comes after three days which might be fine if the place felt clean to begin with but it did not. To make it worse the cleaning staff I overheard were loudly complaining about how much they hate cleaning… which is hard to get behind when they only show up once in a five day stay. There is almost no sound proofing. By 6am you are woken up by constant banging, most likely from the GoodLife gym below. Nothing like being forced into early morning cardio without actually working out yourself. No waters were left in the room which is kind of basic hospitality 101. The one bright spot was the front desk staff who were kind and professional. Unfortunately that did not make up for everything else. Overall I would say if you are looking for a restful stay, maybe bring earplugs, cleaning supplies, and a sense of humor. You are going to need all three.
Nicole G — Google review
This was a nice location - close to the water front board walk where lots of restaurants are. Not the best pool area as there is no hot tub and it takes forever for the saunas to heat up and I saw bugs crawling around inside of it. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the lobby restaurant had good dine in food and a nice selection of grab and go options for a quick snack. Shout out to Lisa being a great server at the Tempo restaurant!

Worst experience i have ever had at a hotel. The front desk has zero idea of what they are doing. Took us over an hr waiting on them to figure out our reservation. Zero parking on site and cost almost 50 dollers for 4 hours where they recommend you park. If you have elderly with you drop them off before parking cause you'll do a good 10- plus minute walk from car to hotel. Rooms are extremely outdated. Wallpaper was peeling off. Pool was gross workout room was very tiny, To where only a few people at a time could work out and you would still be in there space. No hot tub. Best thing about this hotel is location. Definitely not worth the 300 plus a night. Look else where cause this place is a serious joke.

Place was nice and the staff were very friendly but the men's sauna wasn't working which was a let down. The rooms are also very old looking, a more modern renovation would be a good idea but overall a great hotel. Staff forgot to empty the compost in our room from the last guest but we appreciated that you actually had compost.

Could catch a peek of the bay, from our room. Walking distance to pier. Spacious room and very comfy. Price reasonable,, considering we were 3 blocks from the pier. Great restaurant attached for breakfasts we had during our stay. Waitress was a charm.

Excellent central location in Downtown but I had no WiFi during 3 of my 4-day stay, for which they only credited $60 to my account as compensation (?) For a hotel charging what they charge they should be putting more dollars back into infrastructure. My room felt outdated, run down and unclean. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful but the internal infrastructure MUST improve (see pictures).

The Prince George Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia offers stylish rooms and upscale amenities including an on-site restaurant, meeting rooms, and a pool. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of other hotels in the area. One standout feature is the availability of two different buffet options at their restaurant. Additionally, the hotel is pet-friendly and provides amenities for four-legged guests, making it a welcoming choice for travelers with pets.
Granted the hotel was very busy when we went. However the rooms were very clean and spacious. The pool was warm, clean and lovely. The sauna was clean and nicely done. The hot tub well maintained. Location was excellent, and only a short walk to great local sites. The breakfast buffet was good value for the cost. The parking was easy. Staff was approachable and eager to help.

My husband, dog and I stayed here for our first time in Halifax. This hotel is absolutely wonderful. The staff are insanely professional and polite and the atmosphere is lovely. Patrick, who was phenomenal, checked us in and gave us a complimentary upgrade and a present for our dog (she was thrilled). Our room was clean and the view was great. We were also given two complimentary breakfast buffet cards—and that was delicious. We LOVED our stay and cannot wait to come back!

I’ve had the privilege of staying in some of the world’s most luxurious and high-end hotels, yet Prince George Hotel stands out as one of the finest experiences I've ever had. What truly sets it apart is the exceptional service and professionalism of the staff. Every team member is remarkably courteous, attentive, and communicates with genuine warmth and clarity. It’s evident that they go above and beyond to ensure every guest has a memorable and seamless stay. The rooms are immaculate, generously spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with all the modern amenities one could need. From start to finish, my stay was nothing short of outstanding.

My wife and I stayed at Prince George Hotel for 4 nights during our trip to Halifax and absolutely loved the hotel! The room we reserved looked exactly like the photos online. The hotel was extremely clean and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. I requested for a microwave because I needed to use hot compress on my eyelids daily to treat dry eyes, and they provided one without extra cost, which I really appreciated! We were especially impressed by the made-to-order cookies in their in-room food menu. We ordered some cookies, which were made from scratch and delivered to us still warm. The location of the hotel was extremely convenient as well, just steps away from the citadel and all the great restaurants. We will definitely be choosing Prince George Hotel when we visit Halifax again.

Excellent hotel. Great staff. Nice room, more like a suite. Maid service even left a written "thank you" for each daily tip. Shower was big enough for a small dance party. Jetted tub was huge, as well. Valet was quick and easy. Morning breakfast buffet, although repetitive, was very good.

My wife and I arrived at the hotel late evening following our flight from the U.K. and were warmly welcomed, and to our delight, upgraded to a suite with complementary breakfast for our two night stay. The hotel is well appointed and spotlessly clean and all the staff we encountered were polite, professional and friendly. There is secure parking beneath the hotel. The hotel is also ideally situated for easy walking to the waterfront bars and restaurants. Highly recommend. 👌🏻

This is a great hotel. Check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was attractive, well-equipped, and spotless. The hotel had two small but important features that distinguish caring hotels from indifferent ones: the bathroom had a nightlight, so you don't have to blind yourself when you get up in the night, and the room had plenty of conveniently placed USB outlets for charging devices. The hotel is in a great location in downtown Halifax. I'd certainly stay there again.

I had an impressive stay at the Prince George Hotel. My executive suite was very spacious, relatively updated, had a great spa-like bathroom and was very clean. The suite views were also impressive, considering that I was only on the 4th floor. The hotel's front desk team were friendly, professional and attentive, Paige was particularly friendly and helpful with my stay. The hotel is quint yet charming, has all the conveniences that one would want with a great central location to everything within easy walking distance...so many great restaurants and amazing cafes nearby! Breakfast was also impressive, fresh and had a bountiful selection. Service was also excellent and attentive. The bar and outdoor terrace was also nice, great drinks and snacks (service was friendly yet pretty slow). Some of the lobby furniture needs updating, elevators were slow, pool and hallways really needs updating, as they were showing their age (room hallways — are badly dated and smelled musty). The hotel also really needs to add a doorman (especially during busy seasons), and key access to the room floors for guests privacy/security! The hotel also backs onto a very busy "party" street, so be sure to know that rooms facing that side of the hotel can get pretty loud with street / pedestrian noises late into the night. Otherwise, I had a terrific, pretty much flawless stay that exceeded my expectations.

Loved our week stay here! Halifax is a beautiful city! Hotel is very convenient to the downtown harbor area. The walk is up and downs hills, so be prepared! Hotel is right next to the historic Citadel! Rooms are nice sized and very clean. Housekeeping staff is incredibly friendly and asks if you require any additional help. Breakfast is different types of eggs, potatoes and meats in addition to waffles and breads. Kitchen staff is friendly and quick to keep items stocked! We saw the Ops Mgr at Breakfast a couple days. He took time to greet guests and offer suggestions on things to see/do. He also had no problem bussing your table! Very impressive touch! Front desk staff is wonderful, greeting guests as they came and left the lobby. Would definitely recommend this property while staying in Halifax which we hope to again soon!

This is a lovely hotel well situated. We stayed for 2 nites. Parking is on site and plentiful. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean and spacious. But the star of the show was Hedy our reception person. She was kind, patient, and informative giving us lots of information to make our stay wonderful! Hilton is lucky to have her representing their brand.

The hotel was very clearly understaffed for a high-volume weekend. Even after checking in through the Hilton app we needed to stand in line for 30+ minutes — digital key cards weren’t working. While check in begins at 3pm, rooms were not yet ready at 4pm. Was told it would be a 10 minute wait and we could not get a room key until the room was prepared. Instead we received a key pass for parking and then headed out for dinner. At 5 pm, we then were required to wait in line for another 30 minutes to finally get our room key. As an “apology” for our wait and inconvenience we were given two bottles of water… The next morning, after getting breakfast, our room keys were no longer working. Had to wait another 10 minutes at 8:30 am to have them updated. In addition, I received a call two days prior to our stay that my payment card was not approved and they threatened to cancel my reservation. I rectified this the next morning by calling the front desk. Then while checking in, once again I was told my payment method was rejected. This was frustrating because it becomes questionable when I update my info and they then claim to not have it. For $460 this was the most inconvenient hotel stay ever. Unfortunately, as a high-volume weekend, it was the best price available in the city. Next time I’ll shell out for a better venue.

We just finished the stay at the Hampton Inn. The location is great as it's really close to downtown and a short walk to the waterfront. We had a harbour view room, which was very nice. And the breakfast bar was a nice touch, and the customer service was pretty standard, nothing really above and beyond. As Google states, this is a 3 star hotel. So please set your expectations to match. Unfortunately, our room was not adequately cleaned prior to our stay. When arriving we found a Mike's Hard lemonade can by our bed and old honey roasted peanuts on the floor of the room. Thankfully, no one in our family has a peanut allergy. We mentioned this to reception who was very apologetic and took care of our parking charge for the inconvenience. When we went to use the bathroom, we found pink bacteria growing in the grout and around the corners of the tub. This would mean that the shower and tub have not been cleaned properly for quite sometime, not just 1 or 2 days. That bacteria begins to grow usually after a few weeks. When we went to use the shower, the drain was so clogged that water would rise above my ankles within 1 to 2 minutes. I kept having to stop the shower to let it drain and then restart. The idea of standing in a pool of clogged drain water is absolutely revolting, and I immediately regretted getting in the shower the second the water started to rise. Unfortunately, the bathroom sink is also so clogged that it would not properly drain either. Finally, when my son was using the pool last night there was a used bandaid floating around. This was mentioned to the front desk upon checkout, they apologized and asked to send an email to them so they could advise housekeeping. I have already sent that email. This definitely isn't a hotel that is up to the Hilton standard we've experienced at other locations.

Great hotel. The location is right in the heart of downtown, minutes away from Halifax Citadel. Our room was clean, and the service was great. The free breakfast had a good selection. I would stay here again.

Wow, what a great stay at the Hampton. I’ve stayed in Halifax many times, but never at this chain or location. I was a bit nervous about how the full week would be, and it was amazing. The staff, I can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff. From check in, to breakfast, to check out, and everywhere in between, they were over the top helpful and friendly. When you ask for something, it isn’t just an answer telling you where to look, it’s them helping you find it. A hello is always followed by a ‘how are you doing’. I’d give a special shout out to the building engineer who helped me find the stairs (and had a great chat with me about how important it is to get your steps in). Sir, you have sick ink, and a really kind approach to people. Also, to the check in clerk whose father is a retiring Coastie, you were wonderfully kind, and so helpful! Lastly, the room cleaning crews do an awesome job, some of the cleanest and best turned-over rooms I’ve ever stayed in. 11/10.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a family of 4. Awesome staff, helpful and engaged. Hot breakfast buffet is a worthy incentive, good food which varied each morning, also got a waffle machine if you’re picky. Room is modern, in good condition and well kept. Pool is clean and maintained but can get quickly crowded (its small). Gym has a good variety of equipment, no bench press if thats your thing. Parking can be a bit of an issue, if you get a rental make sure you talk with reception desk for arrangements depending on your needs. Location is good with walking distance to everything downtown. 5 min walk to the bus terminal for the 320 regional express that travels between the airport if you want to save $50 on uber/taxi (buy tickets on the hfxgo app - make sure you get the regional express ticket) All in all great hotel would definitely recommend.

Awful hotel. The toilet is off the flange shaking. It's like sitting on a rocking boat. The air conditioner seemed noisy, and being an hvac professional , I had a look. The filter in the unit, has not been changed since December of 2024. It is now the 31st of August, 2025. The filter in that unit should be changed every 3 months at the very maximum. Its is clogged solid, and disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Hotel front desk told me there is nothing they could do for us, and the filter can not be changed until the next day, after our checkout. Stay somehere else.

I had a great stay at this hotel! The staff were friendly, professional, and truly went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. I had a small issue with my room, and they responded immediately and resolved it without any hassle. The level of service was outstanding, and I really appreciated how attentive and helpful everyone was. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-managed hotel experience.

Excellent location for a conference I was attending at the Halifax convention Centre. The rooms were spacious, little Kitchenette with fridge, microwave, coffee machine. The furniture is a bit worn and dated but exceptional with the cleanliness. The shower was hot with good water pressure which is all I ask for ;). A makeup mirror would be nice. Breakfast buffet is included and it was nice …bacon/sausages were an extra fee. Wonderful service and very clean. Rooftop patio and fitness area with hot tub and sauna (loved this option for workouts and fresh air). They provided food/drinks on Friday and Saturday evenings. Delicious. Location close to Citadel, Convention centre, restaurants, walking distance to waterfront (be ready to embrace your inner mountain goat on…very steep hills). The set up encourages lots of young children so lots noise from that end but overall it is quiet.

We had a really nice stay in one of the queen suites. The staff was very polite and attentive (I appreciated the initial phone call to check if we had everything we needed in the room). Good location to walk to the waterfront and citadel (despite the construction which isn’t the hotel’s fault). Everything we needed for breakfast. The rooftop patio had a great view.

Stayed 5 nights a week ago, found the check-in process very easy and the room was ready for our early check-in. The hotel is very close to the Citadel and an easy walk to the waterfront. Sackville St, is very close and an nice downhill walk. Returning to the hotel was more difficult but I climbed the hill about 4 times during our stay (did I mention that I am 73 with a replacement hip) but I did it. The free breakfasts were good, especially the coffee. The only concern was paying extra for bacon or sausage so I did without, better for me anyway. The concern I had with our last night of our stay, although it was not their fault (a concert) the addressed my concern very quickly and to my satisfaction. Thank you Will. I would definately stay here again. Carl Schurman Ottawa

We had planned to stay here for three nights with our two month old. Before making a reservation we called ahead to ensure the hotel would provide a pack and play for safe sleep. Upon check in the hotel provided a dated folding crib which does not follow current safe sleep guidelines for a babe of this age. We requested a pack and play once again and the hotel staff attempted to create “bumper pads” which we explained were a suffocation risk. Following this we decided to check out and find alternate accommodations as our babe’s safety was at risk. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with a baby or toddler.

Great place to stay! Full breakfast with good choices and coffee was good (I'm super picky). I appreciate lobby coffee and water where I stay. Awesome roof top patio to hang out. Fitness area with hot tub but gets busy, of course! Loved the location to walk to so many places including Pier 21. Staff were all friendly too!

Beautiful view of waterfront. Sun was setting from hot tub roof top. Rooms were neat, clean and cozy. Staff were friendly and helpful. I like the lemon water station by the front desk. Nice touch. Left a chocolate bar for my birthday in room!

We arrived at about the same time as a tour bus full of seniors. Our room was very large and comfortable but had a room freshener that left me feeling ill. Also street construction made it difficult to get there. We walked a short distance to get dinner and the area is great for walking. Breakfast was so crowded that it was difficult to get food. Then they were out of spoons and I had to wait so long to get one that my oatmeal got cold. Maybe it is better on other days.

Great hotel. Rooms are spacious and very elegant. Love that they have a Nespresso coffee machine in the room. Great view of the Harbour. Minutes away from waterfront. Excellent customer service. Everyone is nice, friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

I had a fantastic stay at The Sutton Place Halifax! The hotel was spotless — you can tell the staff take real pride in keeping everything in top shape. Check-in and check-out were seamless, and every interaction with the valet and front desk team was friendly and professional. The location couldn’t be better — steps from the waterfront, restaurants, and shops, and right next to the conference center, which made attending events incredibly convenient. Highly recommend for anyone visiting downtown Halifax!

We had such a lovely staycation in this hotel to celebrate my birthday. We initially booked a queen size two-bedroom suite and were delighted to receive an upgrade. The hotel was cozy, clean, and had such a relaxing vibe — exactly what we needed for a weekend escape. The staff were friendly and accommodating from check-in to checkout. Special thanks to Patricia Lopez at guest services — she went above and beyond to assist us and made us feel so welcome. Also, a big thank-you to Shelby at valet parking for his professionalism and thoughtful support — it truly meant a lot to us. Our room was spotless with a beautiful view, breakfast was delicious, and the location was perfect for exploring the city and waterfront. My kids said, “These are the best days of our lives. Thanks, Mom!” 💕 Highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, warmth, and local charm. We’ll definitely come back again!

We had a great stay at The Sutton Place Hotel Halifax. The front desk service was warm, professional, and attentive. Valet parking was excellent — staff were courteous and helped with luggage and doors. The room was very comfortable and well-maintained, with a nice view. We only stayed one night but overall had a very positive impression. The only minor downside was the bathroom layout — it had several separate doors for the toilet and shower (for dry-wet separation), but the door placement made the space feel a bit cramped. Otherwise, everything was wonderful. The location is fantastic — just a 5–10 minute walk to the waterfront. Very convenient and highly recommended.

One of the best valued hotels I have stayed at in ages. I wish more were like it. Large modern stylish room, extremely comfortable bed and pillows, luxurious bathroom, soft house coats. The chop steakhouse in the hotel is the best one I have visited. Walking distance to everything down town. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed one night for the Foreigner concert at the Scotiabank Centre. Perfect location, steps from the waterfront, restaurants, shops, and beside the conference center. Our room overlooked the harbour, worth it for the view alone. Valet parking was cheaper than hourly rates and a great addition to the excellent service. Highly recommend and would stay again.

Spent 2 nights in a pleasant king room overlooking the Citadel. Nicely furnished and a good size. Location is super central for seeing downtown Halifax. Street parking is free evenings and weekends, but was difficult to find a spot anywhere nearby. One of the elevators seemed to be out of service, and the other 3 could not keep up, so there were some long waits. Service was good, but nothing that would have suggested this was a 5 star property vs 4 star. Cleanliness had some room for improvement with things like handprints on the glass bathroom door, something sticky on the desk.

Impeccable! Won't stay anywhere else in Halifax after this first stay at the Sutton. The rooms are beautiful with all of the right amenities...comfortable bedding, well appointed bathroom, great views, all the space you need and not an inch wasted. Staff are lovely and every detail is attended to! Great location in the city - close to everything!

Stayed here for almost three days. The room was great, it was spacious, comfortable beds, and clean. I also felt safe, given that I was alone. The staff were so nice, and friendly. The restaurant, Latitude, I believe the name was(?), was also good. I had the cauliflower bites. Really helpful to have a restaurant within the same infrastructure of the hotel. The location was perfect. If I ever return to Halifax, I sure will consider staying here again.

Cancellations happen, but it is how a business deals with it what matters. We would like to Thank Four Points by Sheraton Halifax and especially Aryan for how they handled my mothers cancellation which we had done on Booking.com. They took charge and found another comparable accommodation swiftly without trying to shift blame. They also gave a taxi voucher to make sure she reaches safely. Thank you again, and we hope to stay there in the future!

I would gladly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great getaway! Thank you very much frim Terri & George Clark!

I have stay at this hotel multiple times with my family over the past 2 years. It's an amazing spot since it's close to everything we want to do. The staff are always extremely friendly and very helpful with anything we need. Including offering our little ones some Popsicles on hot days. The rooms are always very clean and smell great, we have never gotten the feeling that there is something dirty in the room, like when we stay at some other hotels. The Four Points have definitely won our loyalty.

In-room microwave did not work. Front desk attendant did not care. Hotel was clean but vibe was off. Advertised at $180/night on Booking.com, charged $220 upon arrival, then more fees at sign-in. Clerk acted as if it was a significant concession to provide complimentary breakfast passes when a free breakfast fast was already advertised online? And then a check (invoice) was presented at the meal’s end! This was a completely lessor experience. Not a Hilton Conrad would enjoy. Hey, McLean headquarters, visit this mess. (Also, no EV chargers at way too many Hiltons in NE and Canada after big corporate announcement to the contrary. Boo on Hilton!) — Jeffrey Yorke, an unhappy HH member

Location is right down town. It was tricky to find the parking at first and no where to pull up and check in, but once we found it, very convenient. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Was only here for one night on our stop through Halifax.

The buildings and the rooms might look old ant not “luxurious” but quality wise everything is great. The only thing I wish that can be changed is to provide more space for the gym. The gym area was too small. Thanks to Remen (I hope I pronounce his name correctly). He was at the lobby, a great guy and welcoming.

The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Halifax - Dartmouth is a modern hotel located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The hotel is conveniently situated near the Dartmouth Crossing shopping complex and just a short drive from Halifax. I had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. The check-in process was smooth and friendly, and I was immediately impressed by how clean, modern, and beautifully maintained the property was. The room was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed with every little detail taken care of—comfortable bedding, great amenities, and a stunning view. Housekeeping did a fantastic job of keeping everything perfect throughout my stay. What truly stood out, though, was the service. Every staff member I interacted with was warm, professional, and genuinely caring. They anticipated my needs before I even had to ask, which made the experience feel extra special. The on-site dining was another highlight—delicious food with excellent presentation and service. I also appreciated the amenities like the pool, gym, and lounge areas, which made the stay both relaxing and enjoyable. Overall, it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I left feeling refreshed, cared for, and already planning my next visit. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort, luxury, and exceptional hospitality!

This hotel is conveniently located in Dartmouth Crossing. It's close (within walking distance) of the commercial hub, where you'll find all the restaurants, outlets, and stores. They're a bit expensive for what you get. The rooms are pretty small and not all that clean. The sofa in my room had drippings all down one side that dried up and it was pretty beat up. I didn't dare sit in it. The office chair in the room was void of any integrity, as well. The bed was comfy but I let them in to change it mid-week and when I got in from work, it wasn't changed. Just tucked-in. They didn't even vacuum. They did change the towels, at least. The breakfast is where it's at, though. It's a nice continental-style buffet. There's a bit of everything and it all seems relatively fresh. They also offer some grab bags at the front desk so you have a morning snack and a bottle of water when you need it. A good idea for the person on the go. They have a nice gym and a nice pool area. However, I wouldn't mind some privacy glass in the pool area like they have for the gym. I noticed a few gawkers while waiting for the elevator. That close to the lobby, it needs to be more private. In all, it's an okay place. They definitely need to work on their pricing as the hotel is starting to feel a bit rundown. They might want cut back on booking large groups a bit.

Great location in Dartmouth Crossing area with the highway right near the hotel. Not noisy at all. The room we had is a bit old. There’s stains in the carpet and around the toilet. Free daily breakfast buffet is part of the stay, and food was good. Fresh waffle maker is always a nice start to the mornings. Rooms were nice and big. Just dated and could use a renovation in the near future.

Absolutely Wonderful Stay Every Time! We stay at this hotel regularly for hospital visits, and every time we’re here, it truly feels like a home away from home. The staff is absolutely amazing; so kind, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. They always go above and beyond to make sure we're comfortable, which means the world to us during stressful times. What really touches our hearts is how sweet and friendly they are with my 2-year-old daughter. She’s always greeted with big smiles, and they make her feel just as special as we do. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality these days, and we’re so grateful for the warmth and care we receive here. Thank you for making every stay feel safe, comfortable, and full of kindness. You’re truly the best!

I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in Dartmouth and had a really good experience. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, which made for a relaxing stay. Breakfast in the morning had a nice variety, and the pool and fitness area were a great bonus. What stood out the most was the service — the front desk staff were very welcoming and helpful, always ready to answer questions or give directions. Overall, it felt like a well-kept hotel with great hospitality. Would definitely stay again.
Ashutosh S — Google review
Lovely hotel, I didn't rate the rooms as I personally never stayed in the room I was in town for a business meeting in the hotel, so I can't critique what I never interacted with. The service was wonderful though, plenty of spacious parking, and walking distance to 25 restaurants and amenities like hairdressing and tanning booths. If you're in Dartmouth and want to save gas driving, look no further than this inn.

Rationed cookies on checkin The breakfast is meh. I call it prison food. No cut veggies or fruit. They do have green bananas and apples. No spices, salsa or tobasco. Not much in pastries (a muffin a scone). Syrup packets weren't maple. My room had no hair conditioner (empty pump container). Other family room beds were not made when they returned in the evening. Beds comfortable. Rooms did not smell. Windows do not open.

We stayed at the Hollis celebrating our anniversary. We had a great time, The room was lovely, spacious and clean. Very comfortable bed and pillows. We had breakfast at the hotel and was pleased to see so many vegetarian choices. I stayed here for work for a few days....excellent location, just 2 blocks from the harbour, and 2 blocks from the Halifax Convention Centre. The warm cookie complimentary at arrival sure makes a difference! It was much appreciated. The concierge service was also great; personable and helpful. The suite room I got was BIG, and reasonably priced. The pool is nice although a bit small. Gym is full serviced. Overall, if returning to Halifax, I would stay at this location again. Lovely staff, very generously sized room, and excellent location for sightseeing.

Hotel was good. Good location and room was nice. Pool area was good. Decent enough gym. Hot tub was small, something you would find at a friends house, and was un kept and dirty. Ended up with a rash from the dirty water. Didn't realize things until I noticed a rash a few days later. Would expect a Hilton to have better hot tub maintenance.

We stayed here for several days in July. The hotel was perfect. The room was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The hotel location was perfect. Short walk to the boardwalk, restaurants, and many attractions. The staff were absolutely amazing. There was a very slight delay checking in but Wit was amazing and ensured we were comfortable while we waited. Great attention to service. The breakfasts were really good. Aeriana and Sarah served us breakfast. They were so friendly and nice. Typical East Coasters. They talked to us every morning and shared recommendations for restaurants and tour locations. This is a great hotel with amazing people.

Poor front desk responsiveness – calls from the room were never answered regardless of the time of day. Staff were unprofessional (one employee was wearing pool sandals with his uniform). The mini-store fridge was never re-stocked once during a five-day stay. Valet service was extremely slow, averaging 45 minutes daily, with no option to call ahead. Rooms were dirty, the AC was not functioning, and housekeeping arrived as late as 5:00 PM on one occasion. While the location is convenient, the property is poorly managed, overpriced, and offers far better alternatives nearby.

This hotel could be good, but our experience was frustrating. We were a larger group staying for a work event and had our breakfast included in our room rate. Breakfast here is plated to order, but it took nearly an hour each moring order, eat and get out because it was short staffed every day. We were confused about the process, frustrated with the wait and disappointed in the food. One person in our group got charged for all the breakfasts even though they were supposed to be included and we had to dispute. Then when I checked my credit card statement I got charged for a bottle of water that I never came anywhere near. They reversed the charge but that's a dirty tactic in my opinion. The rooms are big but have a few issues. Some mornings the water was cold, no sheers on the windows with a million balconies looking in and odd dark and depressing living spaces no one actually wants to be in. The hotel was also freezing the entire week. The bed was clean but I dont know that I'll endorse staying here next time.

After considering many other options in Halifax, we went with the Hollis and it turned out to be amazing! Location is ideal to discover the city, the service is outstanding, the rooms are neat (we had a king suite with harbour view on the top floor, wow), the pool & jacuzzi are nice and the complimentary breakfast is exceptional. Kudos to Hilton for offering such a reasonable deal for what turned out to be the best hotel we've stayed at in recent years.

We stayed four nights at DoubleTree Hollis. I'll give it 3.5 stars. PROs It's in a great location, I think we were upgraded to a bigger suite; the rooms were huge and the couches were in great condition. CONs However, the room was really dark, we couldn't open the curtains because the construction workers and building next door can see into our room. Our room was only cleaned once. (Would've been nice to have the room cleaned yesterday). I'd stay here again, but would like a better located room with more light.

We had a suite on the 12th floor. Great size with awesome views, though you can basically see directly into other people’s condos across from you, so they can see you too. But was not a deal breaker. Everything was clean and smelled good. Bed was comfortable, along with the pillows and blanket. We did not use the pool, but did see it and looked usable and clean. Gym was decent. Staff was helpful and friendly, parking expensive but worth it since can walk to downtown fairly easy( very hilly lol). Overall a good experience. Only complaint would be single ply toilet paper… when spending this kinda money now a days, give me the good stuff lol.

We checked into this hotel on July 7th - we were initially in room 1205, and then moved to 1605. Our first room was in rough shape. It looked as though it hadn’t been vacuumed in quite some time - fluffs and other debris all over the carpet. The sofa, walls and just about every other surface was covered in stains. The tub didn’t drain, the tub walls and caulking were red with mildew, which made the bathroom stink. There’s dirt in all the corners of the bathroom. We let the front desk know this, and they moved us to room 1605 - we made the move around 7:30pm - but this room is basically the same as the first. There’s a smeared pizza stain on the ottoman. The bathroom is once again covered in mildew and the tub doesn’t drain, again. This one somehow smells worse. The mildew / damp smell spreads out into the bedroom, so enjoy relaxing in bed with that smell. We would have left, but we’re travelling with a 2yr old and getting her up and finding another hotel at night is an ordeal. The desk was willing to move us, but ultimately seemed pretty indifferent and said to not be surprised if there were more stains in 1605, as it’s an old hotel. Those are just the rooms - the pool is in need of serious renovations, and needs someone working down there. We went to swim with our toddler and the pool deck was a mess - old towels all over the floor, hair everywhere, all kinds of junk floating in the pool, no fresh towels in sight. The doors down there are all rusted, there’s no fresh air at all - it all feels oppressive and like you might catch something. The elevators are beat up, with panels falling off. This place needs some major, major renovations to not feel like a dump. It would be great if that happened - the views and location are very, very good - in the 05 rooms you can see the harbour, and I think some of the rooms have a view of the Citadel. It’s just the hotel part that isn’t good. The older, negative reviews have lots of talk like “rest assured, we will address these deficiencies” - but those date back to 2022, 2023 - in 2025, it appears those have not been addressed at all. Update: We ended up leaving the following morning and finding somewhere else. For this price, you’d expect something decent. This is worse than a roadside motel in the middle of nowhere.

We booked suite 1606 with 2 bedrooms and living room. Both bedrooms were quite large, 1 with a king bed and the other with 2 queens. Both had their own bathrooms. Spectacular waterviews, suite 1606. 3 tv's and a small kitchen with kuerig type coffee machine. There is also a sleeper sofa. Breakfast included with things like eggs, ham, fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, selection of pastries. Front desk staff were very helpful and professional.

Wow it’s our first time in Halifax. Our hotel is 45 min drive from airport. Well organized, clean and friendly staff. Eleanor was an absolutely delightful lady at the breakfast dining. I had some questions of what to do, where to dine , sights to see for our first visit here. Eleanor made great recommendations for my family. Breakfast was so yummy. Highly recommend you and your family stay here. Having a kitchen is great in your room.

The pool was freezing. The breakfast buffet was limited. Most hotels give you a bottle of water for free. This hotel charges $2.50 per bottle in your room. Despite it being $541 for 1 night. Not great. Even as a Hilton Honours Member. Parking was easy, location to the airport was convenient.

I had a terrible experience with this hotel. I booked in advance and specifically chose it because I needed to be downtown Halifax for evening events and early morning meetings. I flew in, paid $60 for a long Uber ride, and arrived only to be told my reservation had been moved, without notice, to their sister hotel near the airport, far outside the city core. Staff were unhelpful and seemed overwhelmed. The manager conveniently disappeared and never reappeared. Other guests were dealing with the same issue, while people checking in after us were somehow being given rooms, which made no sense. They offered me a cab voucher but completely ignored the larger issue: that I flew in for something important and they moved my reservation without consent to a completely different location. I ended up missing most of the event I came to Halifax for. Even trying to cancel the new booking was a painful process. I won’t be staying at this hotel or recommending Hilton properties in the future.

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights! We enjoyed how spacious the suite was including the large TV and couch. We also appreciate the location of the hotel making the city walkable. It's close to the Citadel and Boardwalk. The continental breakfast also had a lot of variety. We'd stay here again if we were visiting Halifax!

Our party of 4 stayed at this hotel for 6 nights, we constantly had to get housekeeping to bring us towels and replenish supplies for 4 as they kept only leaving supplies for 3 people. The sofa bed was old and stained and uncomfortable and the chairs in the kitchen were also stained and dirty. The lights in the bedroom does not work, we were told someone would come to repair, this did not happen. The positive was the staff responded promptly, however it's not within their control to upgrade and replace stained and uncomfortable furniture. Parking was also bad..it's on a 1st come basis.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Halifax - Bedford is a Non-Smoking hotel with just under 100 rooms. It features a gym and an indoor pool, as well as free breakfast.
This is by far the best holiday inn express I have stayed at for a long time. We arrived early well before our check in time and Ryan at the front desk was absolutely amazing. He was able to get us checked in early and into our room. He was also hilarious and he always had an amazing positive attitude about everything and made us laugh. The same thing goes for the Hotel Manager Carmela she was also absolutely amazing just like Ryan so I can’t say enough good things about the staff here. So whoever does the hiring here has the ability to find the best people for this job. So if it’s Carmela hats off to her for the amazing job!!!! Thank Ryan & Carmela for making our stay memorable!!!

The location of this hotel was perfect for location with easy access from the highway and ability to get downtown. Staff were thorough with all the information we needed to enjoy our stay. Room was incredibly clean and just the right temperature. There is a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in this room so you could easily stop at the grocery store and get some snacks too, although there are convenient fast food options close by. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of sweet and savory options. We had enough for us and even had options we could share with 8 month old. Staff were busy maintaining a clean and organized kitchen area. The only complaint we had was our room was close to the elevator which seemed to run constantly without anyone on it and it was really loud.

It was good till the mice started running across the floor and we could couldn't use the couch that was covered on mice droppings. They were full so we couldn't change rooms and set out more traps. Plus side the breakfast was okay and good coffee in the morning. Negative side, we couldn't use the pool as it was swimming lessons and full of kids and parents all standing in the hallways. The parking was free and plentiful, easy on/off the highway but quite a ways from downtown or airport. In the end they comped us the room so that was very nice of them.

Our stay at the Holiday Inn Express (980 Parkland Drive) was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, Ryan and Carmela went above and beyond to accommodate every request we had—not just for my husband and I, but for our entire family who were visiting from out of province. Ryan is incredibly down-to-earth and genuinely accommodating, and Carmela is just as welcoming and helpful. You can really tell they care about the guests and take pride in what they do. It made such a difference in our experience. We're truly thankful we had the chance to stay at a hotel managed by such wonderful people. Thank you again, Ryan & Carmela! We'll definitely be back.

Well, we are disappointed. After a nighttime shower, both the shower and bathroom sink had nothing but HOT water. We discovered that the cold water was a mere trickle; enough for brushing our teeth. The front desk was okay, but the room wasn't ready on time. The toilet paper roll is well beyond arms length. The main highway faces the rooms along the front of the hotel, and the AC fan and white noise aren't enough to mellow the truck noise down. Good price is not enough to retain our business.

Just had a lovely one night stay at the Holiday Inn here in Bedford, room. Was awesome, nice and clean, super lucky and grateful to have a free breakfast morning after, even saw the kitchen staff refilling the bacon multiple times to make sure there was enough for everybody. The manager, Carmella was super nice and her staff were right there with her. Great! Stay totally recommend.

Was charged extra for having a pet in the room for the night ($20 which adds up after a few nights) which would have been fine if the room was actually appropriate and safe for pets. My poor little cat got stuck in a small hole left open behind the structure they built to hold the bed. The whole reason I stayed here was to decrease his stress and ensure we were on time for his neurology appointment. Him getting stuck and me frantically having to try and move the bed to see if there was a way to get to him certainly added to our stress and made us late for our appointment. In the end he ended up having to squeeze himself backwards to free himself. Very dangerous and he could have been injured. They should probably warn people to block that area off or better yet do it for them since they are keen on charging the extra money.

We grabbed this hotel last minute because I wanted to explore the Costco in this area. Check in went smoothly and before we went to our room, we explored the hotel and went to the gym. My son who is almost 10 was sitting on the rowing machine when the gentleman that just checked us in 10 mins prior came in and filled his water bottle up and asked me if I knew this boy(who was arms length away from me), I said yes he’s my son. He asked me if he was 16, I said He’s almost 10, and the rules posted state that anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.i found this odd. We went to our room next, which I was impressed with, I like that it’s flooring when you walk in and carpet in the bedroom area. Bedding was comfortable, love the dove line, plenty of towels , I’m an XL and they just fit me. I love the wallpaper through out the hotel , gives it a clean, inviting atmosphere. The elevators when not in use hold at ground level and light up green or red when in use(loved this), breakfast was the best I had next to the delta and the lady working there was helpful , oatmeal and cinnamon buns were a favourite. Loved there was turkey and pork sausage available. The carts for your luggage was the best we used and a first to see in our travels. Room for improvement, we found an ant in our room near the coffee machine, It got away by the time I got a tissue, but there was sugar underneath the coffee tray and then another one the next morning on the floor. As mentioned in other reviews, the key card was finicky and the pool stairs need to be addressed still . We were travelling for a few days, so I purchased some Tide from the little store there but when I went to go do a load of laundry, one of the washers was out of order and the front load washer seal was grimy with hair in it and the washer just smelt like an abundance of smelly beads so I chose to go to a local laundromat(spin cycle laundry , highly recommended , they were friendly and helpful) .upon checkout, the worker was friendly, as I stood there a Lady in a beautiful green dress went behind the counter and spoke to the worker as I stood there and she didn’t say hello, didn’t grunt, which I found Unfriendly since she looked like someone of importance to the hotel. I’m use to staying at the Marriott lines where hospitality is second nature when it comes to the staff/owners and they ask how was your stay upon leaving, not in this case. I also found the front lobby entrance congested with all the furniture. Overall good stay , loved the oatmeal , didn’t see any mice.

The Residence Inn Halifax Downtown is a modern extended-stay hotel offering stunning harbor views and a rooftop patio where guests can enjoy complimentary hot breakfast. Situated in the heart of Halifax's Entertainment district, this hotel provides stylish accommodations with spacious suites featuring well-lit workspaces and flat-screen TVs. Conveniently located near various restaurants, retail shops, and the Halifax Convention Centre, it offers easy access to top attractions within walking distance.
We had a wonderful experience at this hotel. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite. It was spacious with a full sized kitchen, table, living room, and two bedrooms each with a full spacious bathroom. One room even had a walk in closet. We are a family of four and we're so grateful for the extra space and bathroom. The room was clean. Breakfast was very good and the breakfast room was clean and modern looking. Never enjoyed a hotel stay as much as we did this one. Thank you for going above and beyond!

Came here on a vacation with my family. Rooms are in good shape with kitchenettes in each of the rooms. Good AC system that works fast, beds run a little bit firm. Location is right in the heart of downtown Halifax, tons of shops and restaurants within walking distance as well as decent sights to see nearby. Now the reasons I'm not giving this place a 5. The parking garage is tiny with only a 6' clearance. Big trucks or SUVs will not be able to park on site at the hotel. Biggest issue though is the noise at this location, this hotel is surrounded by a lot of bars with live music, often going late. Unless you can sleep through noise, this may be a problem. The room doors are also heavy, they click loud and you will hear it if any surrounding room opens or closed their door without being exceedingly gentle about it. Overall, if you're looking for a prime location in Halifax and looking to experience the city with minimal walking, great spot if you're willing to put up with the surrounding noise of the city. If you're a light sleeper though, or are coming with a large vehicle, you may want to keep looking for other options.

Gave our room away on busiest weekend. Booked directly through website with credit card. Received emails with a confirmation number stating guaranteed by credit card deposit. Received similar email week before we were supposed to arrive. We got to Halifax on the weekend before university started (to move my daughter into their apartment) and I was told to check my spam as someone had sent me a message that they wanted more info about the credit card (even though the reservation had been confirmed with a credit card deposit). Told that since it had gone to spam and I had ‘t replied, they had given my room away that day (Saturday). There were no rooms available in Halifax as it’s one of busiest weekends with parents moving kids to school residences and apartments (only rooms available required us to go back to airport). Staff didn’t help us at all. Couldn’t explain why I received a confirmation number for hotel saying I had guaranteed my booking with a credit card deposit. Said it came from head office and didn’t mean anything. Then told us to find other accommodations (as the had given our room away that morning for likely twice what I had booked it at). Staff couldn’t care less and asked us to move to side while we frantically called hotels trying to find a place to stay. Luckily my friend and daughter had booked a suite at the Sutton down the street and the hotel let my daughter and me stay with them as room slept 4 people (my other daughter had to call a friend who had already moved into their apartment to stay with them).

Ants crawling across the hand towels were the first thing to greet me upon entering my room, a fitting preview of the hotel’s standards. When I raised the issue at the front desk, the response was almost comical in its apathy: “Housekeeping will come with ant spray tomorrow.” Tomorrow. As if spending a night in an insect-infested room were a perfectly reasonable expectation. Housekeeping also never came. The shower drain was completely clogged, turning what should have been a basic amenity into a small swamp. I was forced to stand in ankle-deep, stagnant water, a detail that sums up this establishment’s approach to cleanliness and maintenance. The noise level was equally intolerable: not just people yelling outside, but loud music blasting late into the night, easily heard through the paper-thin walls. Even the gym, which could have been a redeeming feature, reeked of a musky, foul odor, likely due to the inexplicable choice to carpet the entire room. It was less a fitness space and more an olfactory assault. I rarely write negative reviews, but this stay was so appallingly mismanaged that it feels irresponsible not to warn others. Between the infestation, the disrepair, and the total lack of concern from staff, this was, without exaggeration, the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Stay elsewhere.

Staying at this hotel for two nights in September 2025, conveniently located next door to my conference venue in Halifax, was a generally pleasant experience. The room itself was a definite highlight – spacious, well-lit, and thoughtfully equipped with plenty of outlets and USB ports. The convenience of an in-room kitchen with utensils, constant lobby tea/coffee, and helpful luggage storage at reception were all greatly appreciated. The breakfast offering was also quite good. The rating of four stars reflects a few areas that could be improved for an even better guest experience. A faint, unaddressed smell in the bathroom was noticeable. On Thursday night, the noise from the pub across the street was significant, making it somewhat difficult to fall asleep. Additionally, the lack of an in-room safe, a non-operational juice machine at breakfast, and the absence of a tea kettle in the room were minor inconveniences. I also noted that the room's vent did not effectively direct airflow towards the bed. Addressing these points would elevate the stay from very good to exceptional.

Great staff and location. Hotel can be very noisy with so many bars in the area. At times ear plugs or a white noise machine, which they offer guests, are a must. But again, the staff in the entire hotel are great. The breakfast buffet was good and provided added value. We will stay here again.
Colin J — Google review
The staff is nice (both front desk and cleaning) and the rooms are spacious and clean. But.. the management does not know what they are doing. Good rooms but cheap single glazed windows in front of super loud pubs and night clubs until 3am? How expensive can windows be? That makes no sense. The video below is taken *behind the (single glazed) window*. The breakfast is free but there is often no food and it is chaotic because there is just not enough room for the clients of the hotel. Went to the rooftop. Hadn't been cleaned in many days. No one was there. Parking is first come first served, with a limited number of spots. Hotel furniture is stored in the parking lot. Not really up to the Marriott standards.
Amine O — Google review
The rooms are clean and well equipped, but the windows are not double glazed. Horrible stay with 10 days, and loud noise coming from the pub next door. Every night is a nightmare. Building code is probably not followed as even the smallest noise is bad. Staff are super friendly and helpful. The breakfast is always full, no seating ever left and at 9:00 AM there is no food left as well. This is even when breakfast is supposed to go until 9:30 AM. The rooftop is highly advertised, but not cleaned in many months. Full of pigeon poop.

The Old Apothecary is a charming bakeshop and cafe located at 1549 Barrington St. The coffee and espresso drinks are top-notch, satisfying any caffeine craving. Upstairs, the shabby-chic sitting room features brightly-colored vintage furniture, creating a comfortable and stylish atmosphere to enjoy your brew. The menu offers a variety of pastries, including must-try items like the pour over coffee made with a Panamaian light roast from Phil & Sebastian.
I mean look at the size of that spinach and feta danish. The egg tart had just the right amount of Mornay sauce. And a quality cup of coffee . Watching them load the bread in around 9 was just perfect.

Went for breakfast and the pastry was cold. The staffs seemed just busy that they didn’t make little effort of heating up a cold egg puff. Also had a cupcake which was dry and stale. Though I like their loaf, it is overpriced pastry and overrated place.

Visited their new location in Brewery Market recently. The decor was funky and relaxed and although the selection was small, the pastries were unbelievable! Service was friendly too. Looking forward to going again soon.

As I walked to work everyday, I slowly watched as this place became an empty husk of a venue to the brilliant bakery it is today. I've never had a dessert there I didn't like (even some that I was reluctant to try). The staff was always friendly. Their burger week special was an excellent out-of-the-box idea and was worth its price.

Went here for some breakfast food and coffee and found that everything was way overpriced. I didn't think the food was amazing - it was ok, but definitely not worth what they're charging. Also if you're average male height or above make sure to duck under the lighting fixture they have in the washroom.

Pleasant service. Amazing baked goods. Would recommend the donuts if you want to try something unique and amazing. They also sell travel mugs, ceramic coffee filters, and locally made tea and coffee. Can occasionally get crowded by popular demand. But that is no fault of the store, other than being so good.

While set in a dated decor, the old apothecary offers an amazing Cinnamon Bun. A bit undercooked for my taste but still very much decadent. Perfect to finish your week with your favorite cup of coffee

First saw this bakery on the Food network show; Baking Sisters (I think it's called). So while in Halifax, I had to check it out. The aroma of their bread is intoxicating! If it wasn't for us staying in a hotel (and doing no meals in room) I would have tried their breads. It was hard not to buy! We were too late for croissants or cinnamon buns. I'm betting they sell out fast. But the lemon tart we had was wonderful! Also, (not pictured) we tried a mini orange cake with mascarpone icing, which was also yummy. My next visit to Halifax, will include another stop here. And next time I'm coming for bread!

Halifax Backpackers Hostel is a trendy and unpretentious accommodation option offering rooms and dorms, along with a shared kitchen and a cool cafe. Situated in Downtown Halifax, it provides convenient access to the city's major attractions such as the Citadel, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Maritime Museum, Farmers Market, and harbor cruises. The hostel boasts super friendly staff and a warm and cozy environment with its on-site cafe. Guests appreciate its proximity to downtown and LF bakery.
It’s not as comfortable as a hotel, of course — it’s a dormitory after all. I arrived in the evening and almost missed the check-in time, but everything worked out fine. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm, and it was quite clean and pleasant. There’s a coin laundry and a shared kitchen available, which is really convenient. The shower area was also clean and well maintained, which I really appreciated. Overall, it’s a nice and comfortable place for a short stay.

I normally don’t write reviews, but after my stay here I feel like I have to share my experience. I booked two nights in a private room for around \$270, which is quite expensive for a hostel. The location is very central, which was convenient, even though the neighborhood itself felt a bit run-down. Arranging a late check-in also worked smoothly, which I really appreciated since I didn’t arrive during office hours. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. Cleanliness was really disappointing: when I entered the room there were black hairs on the floor (I was the only guest and I’m blonde), dust on the fan and around the room in general, and in the bathroom there was something that looked like mold, trash, and more hair. In both areas it was smelling. The room had no AC and was unbearably hot – even with the window permanently open and the fan running all night, it didn’t really cool down. On top of that, the mattress was uncomfortable, and the bed linen didn’t smell as if it had been freshly washed. I have to admit that I peeked in the downstairs bathroom today and it looked much newer and cleaner. Anyways especially the upstairs facilities don't meet the bare minimum. For a hostel, some of this might be acceptable, but for the price I paid I definitely expected a higher standard, especially when it comes to cleanliness.

loved it! i went with my partner and friend and it was a great experience. the staff are welcoming and helpful and were lovely faces to see day to day on our trip! minor thing would be that it happened to be extremely hot and humid and it was something to get used to. my room had had a few fans, however still got hot during the day! however, quick trip to the cafe downstairs had better AC! it was nice to be able to meet new people and share stories about our day by the end of it— even make new friends! the hostel attached to a cafe that serves great food for breakfast. by the evening, an external chef duo offers sushi! other than that, the location offers many places to see close by! my group was able to spend the whole trip seeing everything on our list by just walking! 😋 highly recommend!
Keni — Google review
Originally booked a 7 night stay and unfortunately had to check out early after my first night. The cleanliness and environment was not what I was expecting and left me feeling quite uncomfortable and unsafe. Upon arriving to the hostel, I found my door unlocked and left open for who knows how long as it was evident others were staying in the room but no one had returned until hours after I arrived. It felt as though the hostel was not properly monitored by the staff throughout the day to ensure safety for all guests. The washrooms were poorly maintained, the floors were dirty and grimy and the shower stalls were unkept. There were no shower handles, just a thin metal rod making it incredibly difficult to use. There was also a significant amount of mold within the shower itself and a potent mildew smell. I find it interesting that there are no images of the kitchen, bathrooms or common areas which feels deceptive now knowing the state of them. The kitchen itself was fine, wasn’t overly dirty but wasn’t the cleanest (both in the evening and the morning) in comparison to other hostels Ive stayed in. There were dishes in the sink that had remained overnight, overfilled garbage leading to flies and an unpleasant smell. The area was okay, close enough to downtown but a little more sketchy. Overall I was disappointed, the staff however were very lovely and understanding. Management refunded just under 50% of the total cost of what I paid for the 7 nights and had no comments to the feedback I provided regarding my experience. I personally would not stay again or recommend to others especially as there is a much nicer hostel approx. 25 min walk away for very comparable pricing.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend staying here. I wanted to like it as the cafe downstairs seems cool and the people working there were nice - but the truth is that this place was absolutely filthy. The floors throughout and especially in our room felt and looked like they had never been cleaned. There was dirt all over the floors and walls and baseboards. We were there on a hot summer day and our room was unbearably hot. The only relief was a small table fan that was absolutely covered in dust. The bathrooms were not cleaned thoroughly. I felt dirtier after my shower. The location is close to a few cute bars and restaurants but it seems to be quite a rundown neighbourhood experiencing a lot of the impacts of gentrification. I would not feel safe walking there alone after dark. The hostel is really lacking security. There is a side door that is basically left open into the night and the only lock in our door was a door knob lock. Not safe or secure. I would suggest paying a few extra bucks and staying somewhere else. Thankfully we were only here for one night or we likely would have had to find different accommodations.
Hannah B — Google review
I have to concur with the previous reviews on the cleanliness of this space - granted the bed linens were clean, showers & floors in the travelled areas were modestly clean, staff were nice, but this entire place needs a proper deep clean and broken furniture needs to be fixed. Fan in my room was grimy with dust, ceiling light contained lots of dead bugs there’s years of dust piled into the room corners, very poor air flow through the one small window in my room so I imagine summer would be sweltering. I stayed one night only bc the HI hostel I booked didn’t have that one night available, but when I moved to HI what a world of difference in cleanliness, comfort, & organization! You get what you pay for unfortunately.

First time in a hostel and it was absolutely incredible. Accommodations are great, the staff was totally helpful and friendly the whole time. I felt secure and comfortable as soon as I got in. The Cafe downstairs is also great. Thanks to the people who put this together and it is definitely more than worth it to spend time here on your travels.

It is baffling to read what people glowingly wrote about this hostel giving it 5-stars. I wonder if they were writing about another hostel. All told, this hostel is easily one of the worst one I had spend a night in and I have been to countless ones. This hostel has many tales to tell. When you come in, you passed by a takeout restaurant counter and the check-in desk wasn’t readily apparent. But then a polite young lady checked me in and, going up to my room through a dimly lit stairs that felt more like a ladder. I was put into a six-bed dorm. The first thing I noticed about the room was that the lower bed did not have a privacy curtains like practically all other hostels offer. There were only two of us in the room and my cohort and I looked at each other in puzzlement over what this hostel was all about. When I tried to open the storage cabinet the whole door came off in my hands. Then I looked around and noticed only one cabinet had a door still mounted on it. The pillows, which resembled rectangular pancakes were woefully inadequate. Luckily I used one of the other unused ones in addition to the one I had. Some of the bathroom hexagonal floor tiles were not grouted and after my shower some of the loose tiles stuck to the bottom of my feet and I needed to dislodge them as I tried to dry myself. The kitchen, which was positively too small for more than two people, was so dimly lit that it was hard to see our way around. The window mount fan came on loud when it did. I talked to a couple of other fellow hostellers and was told the only reason they were forced to come to this one was because the other ones were booked and they had no other choice. The hostel management might not have control over some of base building items such as the steep stairs and narrow corridors, but there are dozens of things they can do to improve this facility, but it is apparent that they don’t have either the capacity or the interest to do so. The rate that this hostel charges is on par with all the other ones across Canada, but the service and facility it provides are woefully subpar. Unless I hear things have improved, I likely won’t repeat this one. I do not recommend this hostel

The hotel's Stories Restaurant is known for its inventive East Coast fusion cuisine, making it a popular dining spot for both guests and locals.
Love the history and old fashioned charm. The staff were friendly and helpful. It had a perfect location. Extremely walkable to everything! Free morning coffee in sitting rooms in main building. Nice backyard seating with water feature and lights. We lucked out on parking but they were happy to have back up parking if needed, which was in a good walking distance to the hotel.

Super cute and comfortable! We stayed in one of the petite rooms with a double bed, which was excellent. I have back problems and every bed other than my own gives me soreness when I wake up. This one did not! The room was quaint and clean with no smell and a nice bathroom. The hotel occupies three heritage buildings. The main entrance has a lovely but small lobby with a nice sitting room and a small breakfast lounge. The staff were super accommodating, allowing us to store our suitcases in a room there in the morning (we caught a red-eye flight into Halifax landing at 7:15 am) and then put our room on priority cleaning for an early check-in. We were very grateful for this after a sleepless night on the plane. I gave 4/5 stars on location because it is off on one side of the downtown rather than centrally located, meaning many things could be quite a walk, but the location itself is quiet and pleasant with nearby attractions like the public gardens. A good place to stay if you’re catching the train as well.

We had a lovely stay at the Halliburton and will be back again! The hotel is old but very well kept and clean. Rooms were very unique with antique furnishings. There was a lovely courtyard and garden to enjoy. We really liked the complimentary coffee in the morning in the library. We came back in the afternoon to enjoy a couple drinks for their happy hour. The staff are exceptional and really made our stay enjoyable.

Great location in historic downtown. Everything was walkable from there. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable. We didn’t have the breakfast there. Lovely and charming with wonderful friendly staff. It includes parking at the back if you need it.

Loved our stay at the Halliburton! The bed was VERY comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Bonus points for having a shower cap in the bathroom! So many hotels don’t provide one anymore and as a curly girl it is a must!

My wife and I like boutique hotels, so we thought we'd give the Halliburton a try. The lobby is very nice and the staff, what little we saw of them, were friendly and professional. We stayed in a basement room in the building next to the main house. And that was the problem. The basement persistently smelled of mildew and was a bit damp. I asked for another room, but they were booked. Looking back, we should have gone to a different hotel. Having said all this, I suspect that the other rooms (those not in the basement) are likely nice.

We love it here. The Halliburton is special to us, because my fiance proposed in our room the last time we stayed. This was our second time staying and will be the place we chose to stay any time we are in Halifax. We were surprised with a bottle of bubly in the room when we arrived and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The outdoor gardens are beautiful and relaxing. Highly recommend!

Lovely and quaint hotel in an excellent location in Halifax. The staff was amazing, helpful to a fault, and the room was just the right size. Be forwarded, there are no elevators, but the staff is quick to offer help. And parking is also tight, but with a little car jenga, you're on your way. Oh and value for dollar...amazing!

The Residence Inn Halifax Dartmouth is a laid-back hotel that offers simply decorated rooms with kitchenettes, an indoor pool, and dining facilities. Located just 45km from Downtown Halifax, the picturesque fishing village of Peggys Cove is a must-visit destination in the Maritimes. The village features charming clapboard houses, wooden fishing piers, and the iconic Peggys Point Lighthouse. Guests at the hotel can enjoy spacious rooms with full kitchens and a delicious hot breakfast selection.
My parents and I stayed at Residence Inn Dartmouth Crossing the end of January. This was the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed at. My father had to have surgery and stay in the hospital...if it wasn't for the amazing staff our stay could have been very different. As well..the hotel was beautiful.. rooms..eating area..everything fr the time we stepped foot into the hotel until we departed. Every single staff member we came across were so pleasant and quick to help...front desk staff housekeeping staff..which was the same lady... breakfast staff..all went above n beyond. I hope to be back with my parents under better circumstances. 100% plus for this hotel. I can't thank the staff enough.

My two-week stay at the Residence Inn by Marriott Dartmouth was absolutely fantastic. A true home away from home. My room felt like a spacious condo, allowing me to settle in quickly and comfortably. I loved the complimentary breakfast each morning; the staff's energy and laughs were the perfect start to my day that I needed. The location was also ideal, just a 15-20 minute drive to downtown Halifax and lots of food options within a short walking distance just around the hotel. To top it all off, I accidentally left a device in my room, and the hotel's top-tier customer service truly shone. Big thank you to Alex L. She shipped it back to my house, which I received today. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in Nova Scotia again! Thanks for making my stay one to remember.

Usually my place to stay when in the Halifax area. The rooms are always comfortable and clean and love the access to the gym and the pools. Only gripe is the parking lot is a little small to park your car but other than that, I can't complain. I have been staying here for years now.

Loved this hotel. The pool and water slide were a lot of fun and the water was warm. Rooms were nice and large and clean. Lots of food options around the hotel, and shopping.

Fantastic hotel and suites. Loved the amenities in room and in the reast of the hotel. Beautiful pool and outdoor patio area. Great breakfast, and lots snacks and market items. So much food and shopping really close by too.

Absolutely Horrible Experience – Never Again I’ve stayed at Marriott properties before and usually trust the brand, but this experience has completely destroyed that. I checked in around 11:30 PM and was rushed through the process with zero care or proper information. When I got to my room, the toilet was overflowing with human waste. Disgusting is an understatement. I was too exhausted to deal with it that night and just tried to sleep. The next morning, I went down for the “included” breakfast at 9:30 AM, only to be told it was over—even though the front desk had twice confirmed it was open until 10 AM. There was absolutely nothing left. On top of that, all requests for towels and someone to fix the plumbing were flat-out ignored and met with rudeness. The following morning, I tried again at 8 AM and was told they had run out of eggs, bacon, and most other items. All I was able to get was a yogurt, an orange, and an apple. For a supposedly inclusive breakfast, it was a joke. When I went back to the front desk to demand someone deal with the plumbing, I was told, “This happens often” — no apology, no urgency, just told I had to leave my room while it was fixed. To top it off, I had originally booked the waterfront Marriott but was redirected (without being informed) to the Dartmouth location instead. At $1400 CAD for 3 nights, this was an absolute scam. I ended up canceling the third night because I couldn’t bear staying there another minute. This was hands-down the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. A total nightmare. I’ll never book with Marriott again.

Surprised by the amenities here. Pool and hot tub. Exercise room. Restaurant and a coffee shop offering Starbucks. Residence inn rooms have a kitchen and sofa with dining table too. Great for families. Easy access to bridges to Halifax (no more tolls to pay). In Dartmouth Crossing next to IKEA.
Lisa Y — Google review
My employer has a corporate rate with this location. I have stayed in both the Residence Inn as well as the Courtyard brand which is in the same building. Both are great for a frequent business traveler to the Halifax/Dartmouth area. The main difference is the Resident Inn side offers a free breakfast , and all of the rooms have a full kitchen. This offers the ability to cook your own meals during extended stays. Besides that, the location is adjacent to major highways, making my commutes to meetings across the region efficient. Dartmouth crossing also has a wide range of dining options, and a Walmart Supercenter within walking distance. The hotel is consistently reliable in cleanliness and comfort, and makes my trips here routine.delivers on what I need most: reliability and comfort. I am impressed by the courtesy and professionalism of the staff, especially the hostesses running the breakfast station, who recognize me and address me by name.

HI Halifax Heritage House is a modern hostel located in an enduring building with a casual vibe. It offers various types of rooms, including dorms, private suites, and family suites. The hostel provides clean amenities such as bathrooms, showers, and a shared kitchen. The location is excellent with easy access to restaurants and public transportation. The staff is friendly and accommodating, making it a pleasant place to stay for travelers passing through the area.
I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It’s newly renovated, with clean, cozy, and comfortable rooms. We stayed for five nights in a private room, and everything was quiet and relaxing. The kitchen is spacious, and the room was well-maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. On New Year’s Eve, a group of us, including fellow guests and staff, went together to the fireworks and the New Year’s party at the Grand Parade area. It was such an amazing experience, and I had a great time celebrating with everyone. Everything about this hostel was perfect, but I do have one small suggestion: adding some hangers in the rooms and bathrooms would be a great improvement, especially for winter guests like us who needed space to hang jackets and towels. It’s a minor detail, but overall, the hostel was absolutely fantastic!
Saride A — Google review
I’ve been to quite a few hostels and this ranks near the top for me. The hostel very clearly has undergone some recent renovations, all the facilities were beautiful. The bathrooms were always clean and available. The beds were comfy and the lockers were a good size, a great kitchen and food storage system. The location was also on a main street and a very short walk away from the harbour. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I was in Halifax. Only 3 things I’ll mention that didn’t tarnish my experience but would be good to note. There is no AC, if on the 3rd floor be prepared to walk your luggage up all the stairs and there is no sign outside which makes locating the hostel confusing (or I’m just not observant 😀)

Highly recommend, great value for money, very central location and clean. I stayed there for 4 nights in the women’s only dorm in August. The staff was very helpful, common areas are bright and spacious. The other travellers were respectful and friendly and I was able to get good sleep.

Great location! Close to the waterfront. Newly renovated, so, everything looks very new and clean. The staff were very nice and friendly. The beds are a bit too stiff but I didn’t mind. Probably the most clean and comfortable hostel I’ve stayed at so far. Would definitely recommend! :)
Do P — Google review
No locks on bathroom doors in shared co-ed dorm, no locking options on lockers, or curtains on beds. The staff weren't particularly helpful or welcoming, and the hostel was a significant walk from anything of interest. The beds were cozy, however, and the rooms and general washrooms were clean!
Clara E — Google review
Their manager Shane doesn't have the brain to hire decent folks, instead the ones he hires end up doing filthy things to people's food behind their back. Then he ignores the complaints and says it never happened. Truely a sick place not a youth hostel service.

The staff are very accommodating and friendly. Large kitchen area. We had a private room booked and it was very quiet.

Great location and the hostel was clean and well taken care of, but I found the staff a bit standoffish and they seemed annoyed anytime I approached them for assistance. I love staying in hostels because they're fun and welcoming but I didn't feel that with the staff here

I love to support small businesses, especially due to what’s happening in the US, but I was highly disappointed with the two coffee drinks I got. My iced Americano was 3/4 full (I did specify I wanted it black, so no need for room for dairy), and my partner ordered a macchiato that was in the smallest cup ever. I understand there is espresso macchiato, however, it wasn’t stated on the menu and if I’m paying over $4 for it, I assumed it would be normal size. Not to mention, I would at least understand if it was tasty, but both coffees were overly burnt. Moreover, the staff were not very friendly, and one of them actually got annoyed at a customer for being in their way. As a worker in the service industry, I was not impressed.
Lian E — Google review
Stopped by for an iced cherry latte and some light snacks. The coffee was definitely strong and had a bold roast, but we were a bit disappointed that there wasn’t much cherry flavor—it didn’t quite match the name. That said, the ambience was lovely—cozy, laid-back, and perfect for a mid-day coffee break in charming Lunenburg. Staff were friendly, and the space had a nice local vibe.
Jhanvi S — Google review
I never write reviews but this was a terrible experience. Waited over 30 minutes for two take away lattes and a breakfast croissant. Our kids were understandably starting to lose it. Staff were rude and dismiss of us repeatedly confirming our order had not been lost. The coffees eventually came ~25 mins later without a smile let alone an apology. Then it appears they forgot about the croissant which only arrived after more asking 15 mins later. We love Lunenburg and supporting the great small businesses. This experience was a disservice to the coffee company and we will not be returning.

I was there a few Saturdays ago and it was super busy but there was a blonde lady who served me and recommended the maple latte when I didn’t know what I wanted. The young lady I spoke to was so nice and cheery I wish I remembered her name so I could call her out but I only remember that her first initial was a K. The maple latte was totally worth it I’m so glad she recommended it. I am planning on going back soon so I can get it again and hopefully that lady is there to serve me.

I enjoyed popping into this coffee shop, we got a to go latte and pasty and they were both very good. The service was a bit slow (a little less than 10 minutes) even though there were very few people, however, the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff made up for the minor delay.
Eric S — Google review
I've been drinking their coffee for over five years, but it is the exceptional customer service I received this weekend that got me to post. Since we don't live close by, my husband and I bulk order (at least 8 bags) every couple of months and then make a trip out of going to the HSFM for pick up. This time there was a bit of a snafu with our order that could have led to a huge inconvenience for me because the Mackay bridge was closed. When I communicated with the owner they came up with a solution (delivering to an alternate location) that worked brilliantly. I really appreciate the effort and enguinity to find a solution. Plus the coffee is yummy. Rock Your Boat forever!!!

We had a wonderful time. The service was great and the food was delicious. Eden was pleasure to have serve us. She was happy to serve us as well and said we topped her day. She had a customer who dropped their wrap on the floor and was irate that she would not give her a replacement...come on people, it's not a massive chain restaurant. Treat people kindly! Yes they are there to serve you, and clean up after you, but not to heap your ... on! Thanks Eden! I only have one issue, the menu says, and I quote, "Please advise your server when ordering of any alergies so that we can try and accommodate your needs". I tried to order some peanut allergies and they looked at me very confused like. What's the deal?🤣🤣🤣

Fresh tasting fish with a beautiful bun, and nice coleslaw. Staff are very friendly and the porch, although small, is very nice. Shaded and overlooks the dock The toast for breakfast was nicely toasted with the perfect amount of butter. The side of jam was tasty as well

French toast was good, not too sweet. Atlantic poached egg was perfectly balanced. The haddock burrito has a nice flavour but was too heavy on the carrots. Also tried their specialty the day before which was Thai Green Curry Mussels but was disappointed as you could barely taste the curry. Nice decor and a slight cozy feel. The staff was friendly.

Tried the breakfast at this spot. The deck view is beyond words and a wonderful experience. The food was pretty good but nothing spectacular. The lobster Benedict could have been fresher. Their coffee was also really nice. Nice little brunch spot when you're in town.
Shayan G — Google review
Wonderful location with a great view, but the food was disappointing. We tried the mussels, which were not that fresh and lacked flavor punch. Our experience at other places with PEI Mussels has been way better. The lobster roll was total letdown. The filling was just slathered in mayo and lacked complete balance. The sunrise tequila drink was okaish. They have a great view and location but need to focus on the food for the long term.

Fast paced but efficient, very busy café, especially for breakfast. The staff were constantly busy and attentive to the customers. Food was well cooked as requested ( over hard eggs ) The deck view is fantastic if one can get a seat out on the deck.

Absolutely wonderful customer service and truly DELICIOUS food!!! I had the card fish cake and my friend had the smoked salmon. Both were 10 out of 10. And to finish off, we had the famous from and raisin cake which was to die for! So thanks to other reviewers who recommended it! The view of the waters is beautiful from here. Looking forward to coming back again!

While waiting for move in day for my daughter’s apartment we decided on a quick day trip to Lunenburg to visit this quaint town but we needed some lunch. So we decided on The Savvy Sailor. We enjoyed our patio meal and seeing the view. The girl had a Fish Burger and the Dad had the Thai wrap w/ side Caesar salad. Also paired with a local shipwright brewing Golden Ale. Fish Burger was made of haddock and cooked perfectly. Coleslaw was tasty. The Thai wrap was a nice mix of vegetables and chicken. Definitely full of flavour. A tad drippy of the wrap but still tasty. Worth a try if you’re there.

Worth a detour for sure! Amazing food, baked goods, and gift shop. Lobster and halibut chowder and lobster eggs Benny were stellar. Fun retro music playing, soothing the soul. The owner Linda is lovely, and she even served up our food. Lemon tart has excellent pucker.

There was unfortunately someone with a whipper snipper absolutely going at it during our dine. Not the restaurants fault really as it was the neighborhood but it was noted. Other than that honestly this place is one of the cutest cafe's I've ever been to. The decor and atmosphere is rustic with a hint of seaside port. They have a wonderful interior designer, and the little specialty shop and they have for groceries and a few knicknacks are definitely worth the visit! Especially if you're a Greek cuisine lover, they have imported olive oils and top quality pasta products that are sensational! Now into the menu, it's simple casual cafe type food. Comfortable and not too heavy, however they have a playful combination of variety to keep your interests. Playful food pairings from pear and blue cheese salads, to mushroom cream sauce on a delicious toast with the most delicious candied walnuts I've had. A combination I never thought would work. So give it a shot, but he prepared and remember that you are in a residential area, there may be some resident level noises! And it's pet friendly!!

We went to this lovely location for brunch to celebrate a birthday and to say we were impressed would be an understatement! This spot has the holy trinity of food establishment benchmarks. Quality food, amazing atmosphere and the best customer service you could find anywhere. We had tea and coffee and some of their brunch items as well as a sweet tea service. We were treated with such great service we were almost surprised by it and the location is furnished in such a manner to make you feel right at home while being inspired by the many books and history of the locale. One of the best breakfast sandwiches my boyfriend and I have ever had! This is a very cute cafe tucked away in Mahone Bay, and it's totally worth the trip! It feels like a tea party and bookstore mashed into one. Great food and friendly staff. We're definitely going to miss the biscuits!

An amazing little restaurant that was always a go-to treat in NS. Sadly the owners have had to pivot their offerings and their in-dining will change to pickup-only for sandwiches and pastries. This was a fantastic location for afternoon tea when you wanted to splurge a bit, or we're celebrating something truly special. Staff was amazing, people here were so friendly, we will always remember our times here. I think we were the last to have tea service ever. Local community hub, they also sold relevant local products like old posters or reprints. They will be missed as a restaurant, and lots of possibilities if they sell the antique house.

Quaint little cafe. Think it's popular for afternoon tea, but my wife and I stopped by to take out some goodies on our way to explore Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. We got the blueberry tart (great buttery shell, strong blueberry compote), lemon tart (ditto with all the goodness), dark chocolate carmelita (oaty bar which was nicely chewy, though would have liked a stronger dark chocolate cake) and cookie (super soft). While really pricey, it's obvious Biscuit Eater takes pride in the quality and care it puts in it's products. The owner mentioned they may be shutting down soon and moving on, so if you're in the area, stop by before they go - it's a definite treat!

This is the best high tea you can get in Nova Scotia. There is a very relaxed air here so you can sit and enjoy for however long you'd like. The food is absolutely delicious and their teas are local. A genuinely Nova Scotian gem, that has local authors and supports all the right causes. I will definitely be back!

Delicious Treats, Great Coffee, and Even Better Service! We stopped at Jo-Ann’s in Mahone Bay on the recommendation of our amazing tour guide—and we’re so glad we listened! This cozy café/deli is full of charm, just like the town itself. We came in for a dessert break and were blown away by the cheesecake—rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Jo-Ann's is a cute little market style shop in Mahone Bay with a little of something for every appetite, especially those with a sweet tooth! I've had savory and sweet treats here, and by far the sweets are the standout. A friend professes that their pies are the best they've ever had! While I'm a little biased towards another source, all dessert lovers will find a place in their hearts for Jo-Ann's. Note that the outdoor patio is lovely, and there is a washroom on site, even though it doesn't look like it!

The Green Elephant Café is a popular spot for breakfast, lunch, or a relaxing tea time. They offer keto and gluten-free options, although the selection of keto desserts has decreased. The café has a typical cozy atmosphere but can get noisy at times. The menu features various specialties on specific days of the week, and the service is friendly and efficient. Customers have praised the delicious food and recommended trying out their offerings. Overall, it's a pleasant dining experience with good food and accommodating staff.
Found this little nook while visiting 2 years and brought home some gluten free wraps back to Ontario. Thank you for still carrying these magnificent wraps to enjoy our supper with tonight. The Peanut Butter Cheesecake was delicious as well. See you next time.

Dissapointed with the portion. The price is not low (a waffle $15 or more) and most of the breakfast dishes cost $15 - 20. We got hungry a few hours before dinner time:(. Topping’s portion is quite ungenerous, too. Normal brunch places offer good portions but but definitely not this place:(. Also no real maple syrup is served:(.Also, we have to be served at the entrance to get a table but they were not attentive and I had to get their attention to be finally noticed.

Our server was excellent, super friendly. My husband had the mushroom skillet, excellent. I had the bacon cheddar waffles, good. Coffee was great. My only complaint, and a pet peeve of mine, was my husband's food was served first without his toast and he was half done before my meal and his toast came out. This shouldn't happen especially as there were only a few other patrons. Otherwise, we enjoyed everything.

Absolutely love Green Elephant. I'm a local now and they remember my order, they are always so friendly and encouraging with me. They've gotten to know me over the years I've been here and I enjoy the VIP experience. I'm originally from Ontario and I've never experienced this even with shops i went to on the daily. Too many people shift changes you don't get to know just 1 person. This is an awesome place to go for service whether you're a local or a visitor for a week. They will get to know you and if you talk with them and they aren't busy, they'll talk with you. The atmosphere is awesome too, but I absolutely love elephants so I enjoy seeing if there is anything new added to the decor when I come in. I've been going here for over 3 years now and I'm still finding new stuff! I like there menu, I have always had a good experience and warm food. If you have a group over 4 just call in advance and they'll reserve you the right amount of space. Patio available in the summertime too!!

Arrived at the restaurant 1055 am wanting to have breakfast, the menu stated it was available until 1100 am. However, was told kitchen was no longer serving breakfast, huge disappointment!! I had spent several decades working in food and beverage establishments and in my experience if a customer arrives before 11am they are never told the kitchen isn't serving breakfast. Had my partner and I been able to order breakfast we would have also ordered momosa,(which resulted in a loss of revenue $26). We have been visiting this establishment for over 4 years, the food is always good, never had any issues there, the atmosphere is generally nice and clean. However over the past while I have noticed the service has gone downhill, others in the community has noticed also. Today was a perfect example...the only person who seems to be happy and welcoming is the little lady with the bun and glasses! Everyone else is grumpy and looks very unpleasant. We didn't get the water we asked for, the server who brought the food just dropped the plates and walked away even as we said thank you to her, there was no you are welcome or enjoy your meal, nothing!! We were 3 quarters finished eating when the original server came by and said everything is okay here I take it? Then preceded to walk away, when she came to collect the plates didn't offer anything else just told us our table number and walked away. This is very disappointing service in a time when people are very conscious of where they are spending their money. Many other establishments that focus on customer experience as a priority are available and it's sad that a local community establishment may lose support due to lacking customer experience....

The No 9 Coffee Bar is a well-liked establishment in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. It offers an assortment of coffee and pastries for takeout or dine-in. Operating year-round with a brief hiatus during the winter months, this cafe presents a varied menu featuring nutritious breakfast items and delightful pastries. Additionally, they host occasional pop-up dinners throughout the year to diversify their offerings.
Grabbed some cappuccinos and a mocha espresso this morning and really enjoyed them. We also had to take a mixed berry lemon scone with us plus a couple Galletes. Everything was so yummy!

Very cute type of cafe, the sizing of the cups feels smaller than what you would usually see in other cafes though very cute in terms of a place to study. It is a home that got repurposed into a coffee shop so it feels very homey.

Two days in a row having breakfast here, absolutely awesome. The staff are super welcoming and gave us an amazing start of the day. The kids loved the cheddar scones and breakfast galette. The streamers with different flavors make my 6 year super happy. The backyard is beautiful to sit and enjoy the morning coffee, while watching the birds flying around!

A local recommended this cafe and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it’s in a lovely, cozy house with adorable decor. Snack options were all vegan as far as I could tell. I had an absolutely fantastic cortado, probably the best of my entire trip in NS, and a couple of the small square, chocolate dipped vegan cookies, which were a perfect complement to the coffee. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend this beautiful little cafe in Lunenburg.
S K — Google review
I was originally a bit skeptical of the pricing on the galette; but upon trying it, see how it's worth it. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie was decent; but I probably wouldn't get it again. The star was the VEGAN cinnamon bun. We're NOT vegan; but this might just be the best cinnamon bun we've ever had. I don't know how they got the dough to taste so much like brioche without dairy.

We happened to stumble across the cutest and quirkiest coffee shop in downtown Lunenburg. Lucky us, especially since it was a rainy day... :-D Great coffee, house-made baked goods but the decor and attention to detail is what made this the best experience for us! Local art, upcycled and vintage furniture, and fun decor. <3

Three different sandwiches, each was incredible! The curried chicken was loved by both of my companions. They also shared a ham and roasted red pepper melt... Loved that one too. Hot and fresh! I make it to trying to be more vegetarian on a good day, but took a leap and tried the vegan wrap. Blew me away! So delicious and I would eat this every day... You might not think just a sandwich would be so filling, but it was. Lovely atmosphere and staff today. Lots of take out options too. Took home a brownie that was huge! He loved it. The Barn Coffee & Social House is a charming café located in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, with a second location in Bridgewater. It offers strong espresso and delectable baked goods, creating worthy competition for other local coffee spots. The inviting interior exudes a unique style that sets it apart from the typical café atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy delicious treats like blackberry and white chocolate scones while soaking up the bustling yet cozy ambiance.
Amazing coffee house! Absolutely loved the atmosphere here, the decor. Friendly staff and delicious drinks. We had the blueberry maple fog (so good!) and a caramel latte (also so good!). Probably the best hot drinks we’ve had in a long time! We’re visiting from Niagara, Ontario, and we’re so glad we happened to find/pick this cafe in beautiful Mahone Bay! A place we’ll definitely come back to on our next visit.
Kathleen F — Google review
Normally I absolutely love The Barn but my recent experience wasn’t so great. I bought a turkey BLT expecting it to be just as phenomenal as anything else I’ve gotten there before but opened my sandwich to see that the bacon on it was literally raw. As someone who’s worked in restaurants in the past the last thing I want to do is complain because I know how high pressure things get but this was an impressive mistake. Again, great establishment but how does one put fully raw meat on a sandwich and not notice?
Jocelyne L — Google review
We stumbled upon The Barn while hunting for coffee in Mahone Bay, and what a charming find! It’s cozy, welcoming, and full of character. I ordered a Blueberry Matcha and an oatcake, and both were absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and warm, so glad we discovered this little gem!
Nicole I — Google review
It was really busy when we got there. The servers cleared the line pretty quickly. We had to wait about 15 to 20 minutes to get our drinks. We got the blueberry iced matcha which was really good, the iced chai was okay, the strawberry rhubarb muffin was delicious and the chocolate cookies were so good. We also picked up a bag of coffee beans.
Batsala B — Google review
Fancy a blueberry maple London fog? Don’t mind if I do. Something freshly baked alongside? Why not? I’d like an excuse to stay a little longer to eavesdrop on the local gossip and soak in the vibes that manage to be both rustic and polished, folksy and urbane. Screams Nova Scotia charm.

Lovely atmosphere cozy and warm. Ordered a flat white soya decaf extra hot, came 1.5inches short of the rum and warm, not hot. Service was average. Appreciated the outdoor seating and parking.

Popped in during a day trip. Quick bite between meals. We had the fish and chips. Quick hits: Chill place, friendly service, good food, and a wonderful breeze through the front door. Bonus: Seems like they’ve got an arrangement with ABC next door, too!

I had the special of the day: pulled pork sandwich, with Bost pasta and potato salad as sides. The sandwich was excellent. The potato salad was good. If you like potato salad I'm sure it was amazing, but I am "meh" about potato salad, so I'll call it solidly good, would eat again. The pasta salad (mayo and Dijon mustard based, and topped with Parmesan cheese!) was fantastic - hands down the best pasta salad I have ever eaten, and I'm only slightly more favorable to pasta salad than potato salad. Service was very fast and friendly. All in all highly recommend!

Dessert options and coffee options were great, loved the treats however the lady that helped us was incredibly rude which was very disappointing. We asked her about a dessert and she said “maybe you should read the label, does that look like a danish to you?” And then when she was ringing us in she rang in the wrong thing and seemed as though it was the wrong price so when I mentioned that she rudely said, “yeah, I’m aware”. I can totally understand someone having a bad day but to treat people rudely and ruin someone else’s day too just isn’t cool. I saw a review from a few weeks ago mentioning someone rude as well, so I’m guessing it was more than just a bad day and is actually just someone who is perpetually rude. If you aren’t phased by someone being rude to you, however, then the coffee and treats are recommended. We were planning on heading back there for breakfast tomorrow but not anymore, would prefer to start our day with someone pleasant :)

There is something majorly concerning going on with management/owner/whomever is responding to these reviews. Its actually embarrassing and the most unprofessional thing I've come acrossed when searching for a place to eat. You do know some people stroll through reviews to decide where to go. Somewhere in the small town is a bully who needs to seek enlightenment and growth. Just look at the reviews and responses. Ive personally screenshot many to provide to newspapers and media. This is disgusting behaviour. Its well known for years the slow ignorant service out of this establishment. Im from this area and embarrassed to see this. No I wont be stopping in.
