A truly special café dating back to 1597. We were warmly greeted by friendly staff (especially Marietta!) who were happy to answer our questions about various pastries and baked goods. They described the history of their sweets and this region of Altamura. We tried two of the regional sweets and a croissant - both were exceptional! The coffee was delicious. Everything is baked fresh in-house each morning (which is actually somewhat rare in some regions of Italy!). The cafe itself is bright, clean with tons of personality (you’ll have to come see for yourself!). I can’t recommend this pasticceria enough 😊👌

We didn’t expect to stay in Altamura but are so glad we did so we could experience this place. It’s in a quiet area of the old city but it’s worth finding. The “nuns tits” were delicious, so many different flavours to try. Marietta was so lovely and helpful, and we came back twice in two days.

Technically on our way from Matera to Bari airport we stopped in Altamura, after an Italian friend recommended to do so. We went to the Pasticceria for elevenses and were welcomed warmly. We were told about all the different pasticci and chose to try the tette delle monache which were absolutely heavenly. We also got free extra sweet almond treats both with our sit-down pasticci as well as the ones we bought to take home with us! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
