Cake shop
Takeout Restaurant
Nestled on Cavanagh Street, Kurts Cakes is a beloved bakery that draws in crowds eager to savor its famous vanilla slice, known for its light and airy texture. But fear not if you miss out; the bakery offers an impressive array of tarts, cakes, pies, and savory sausage rolls that are equally delightful.
Soo planned a farewell party in short notice and i want a cake but then again nobody’s taking me order because how short notice. Thank god Kurt saves the day 🥰 we discuss through the phone how i like it and gave me a quote, then went to his bakery and he explained how the cake should be. The cake was amazing and stayed outside and never melts ! 🤩🤩🤩 everyone at the party loves it! Definitely recommend to everyone who's having a partyy !

CUP CAKE MIX WAS CHEAP AND GLUGGY The service was really good considering I placed the order at the last minute. However if you’re expecting quality, it isn’t there. Not much effort put into making sure the experience of actually eating the cupcakes was enjoyable as the texture was as if they weren’t cooked enough/not aerated. More like muffin mix and the flavour was floury. Although they looked pretty from the outside, the icing also missed the mark.

Absolutely beautiful cakes. We had a cheesecake and a marble cake for the 4year and both went down a treat. Staff were great with communication and accommodating our delivery. Would highly recommend
Joshua S — Google review
Kurt is amazing! He listened to everything I wanted for my wedding cake and it was just beautiful. My young niece said it was “yummy, moist and delicious!” I have to agree! And it was delivered just as he said! THANKS Kurt!…also I will be back for another vanilla slice! Please note the cake topper supplied by Jodie at Ollie’s Room! Colour was pistachio. Cake flowers from Flowers for Ever After. Frangipanis provided by Kurt. Wedding photography - Nicole Zicchino.

Best cake ever! We loved all the details. The cake was absolutely delicious! Thanks for taking the order with such a sort notice. Customer service was great. Super friendly. We will definitely recommend Kurt's cakes for any of your events :):):):)

I came here specifically because I saw a review on Facebook about a guy rating vanilla slices all across Australia. I agree with his review, this vanilla slice was incredibly tasty. I happened across two customers devouring them in the generous seating area who said it was delicious. $6.50 - The custard filling wasn’t too sweet, perfect consistency - light and fluffy. The pastry topping and bottom was crisp not soggy and the icing the ideal thickness, not sickly. It’s a generous serving, I had half and it was plenty for me. The hardest thing was trying to eat it without getting it squished all over my face haha. Highly recommend!

I love this bakery so much! i even think they serve the bestest cakes in the entire Darwin city. The price is affordable, the taste is incredible. The staffs and owner are really nice and warm people too. The roast beef toasty is my fav there. All cakes are good actually. Some people also recommend to try carrot cake there 👌🏻

If you looking for an authentic flavourful cake this is your place I can’t recommend enough Kurt’s is the best pastry chef up here! My go was vanilla sponge cake with chocolate custard topped with extra decorations (macaroons)for my hubby special slice on his Birthday.

Trampoline Gelato is a vibrant chain known for its house-churned gelato, sorbet, sundaes, and milkshakes. The store in Darwin, NT offers a delightful range of flavors and friendly staff to assist you in finding your new favorite treat. During the Darwin Festival, Trampoline Gelato presents an exclusive flavor at Festival Park where visitors can enjoy a minimum of 12 flavors each night.
I love enjoying ice cream at Trampoline! It’s in a great waterfront location, and the staff are friendly and helpful. There are many flavors to choose from, and the cup is generously filled. The taste is amazing!
Emi L — Google review
Good gelato, advanced and complex flavours, no pistachio. Very busy place. Not sure about sampling. Location is superb and well situated for those using the watering areas. I tried the hazelnut and roche and salted caramel on a cone, which was quite tasty and recommended.
Matthew A — Google review
Heard some say this is the best ice cream in Darwin, so we had to try it! They offer quite a few flavors, and we went for Pokey Pokey and Hazelnut Roche. Not sure if it’s the weather or the gelato itself, but it melts super quickly—had to eat fast to avoid drips everywhere! The Hazelnut Roche is nicely nutty, and the Pokey Pokey isn’t too sweet. Definitely want to try more flavors before leaving Darwin!
Tan. W — Google review
After dinner at the waterfront this was the perfect dessert on a hot night in Darwin. 100 % Australian- 👏🙌 Was nice to come across gelato! The Aussie mess flavour was delicious as was the coffee crunch. Prompt service. Great location situated near all the waterfront restaurants.
Liisa B — Google review
The best ice cream ever! Love the special flavors like white chocolate macadamia or tiramisu - so yummy. ♥️
Julia G — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely love this ice cream shop! 🍦 The flavors are rich, creamy, and always taste fresh. They have a great variety—from classic favorites to unique seasonal options—so there’s always something new to try. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, and the shop itself has a warm, cheerful vibe that makes it perfect for a family treat or a quick stop with friends. Highly recommend if you’re looking for delicious ice cream and great service—you’ll definitely want to come back again and again!

Ended up getting lost in my adventures today and Trampoline was the first place that I ran into that offered something to be able to cool me down. I'm glad it was - their mixes were delicious! I had the salted caramel and red velvet chocolate and it was absolutely devine and reasonably priced. Would recommend ❤️

Yum yum! On the waterfront, adjacent to lagoon, it is very handy. Prices fair - $7.50 1 scoop, $9 for 2. Lots of flavours & a few unique ones. In cone or cup, & serving size in cone anyway, was generous. Staff friendly & allowed sampling of flavours if needed.

Best icecream in the world. Can’t change my mind Amazing product and owner. No bias, all facts
Nicholas C — Google review
Yeah, nah! We came here based on other reviews but I am not sure what they were rating it against. Tried one flavour which was OK, but the icecream itself had that icy texture. Settled on another, asked for a scoop and was served it in a cup. When I said that I wanted it in a cone she dismissively told me that they had no cones - they hadn't been delivered. It would have been professional to have been told this in advance. Said icecream was OK, but definitely not real gelato. I would have overlooked all of these things if the person serving looked like she gave a shit, but, alas, she did not! There are better options just around the corner!
Angela H — Google review
I won’t be returning. The lady who served me was very rude. I ordered a pandan cone, but she gave me a banana one instead. When I told her I had ordered pandan, she insisted I said banana and threw it away. After that, she prepared everything very loudly and with attitude. When I ordered another cup of ice cream, she sarcastically said, 'Hope it’s not wrong again.' Good luck with their business.

Cold Rock Ice Creamery Darwin is a delightful destination for ice cream lovers looking to craft their own unique treats. Located in the bustling Mitchell Centre, this locally owned gem offers an array of flavors and mix-ins, allowing customers to create personalized combinations that tantalize the taste buds. From indulgent ice cream cakes and shakes to classic cups and cones, there's something for everyone. One standout option includes a refreshing curry-flavored ice cream topped with crispy noodles—an adventurous twist perfect for warm days!
Hubby and I decided to take our kids for their first mix-in ice-creams this afternoon on a whim, and I am so glad we did! The kids loved it, but beyond that, the young man who served us was an absolute legend. He was friendly and engaging with our little ones, and so thoughtful and considerate of what we may need as parents, all while completing the other aspects of his job efficiently. So impressed!
Erin P — Google review
I had high hopes for Cold Rock Darwin. The variety of mix-ins and the rich, creamy ice cream were promising. However, the aftermath of my visit left a lasting impression far beyond what I anticipated. After enjoying my ice cream, I seized the moment and confessed to the girl I like that I "frothed her." A bold move, but things took a sharp turn when I abruptly had to announce that I needed to relieve myself urgently. As if that weren’t embarrassing enough, I proceeded to vomit just outside my car. The situation escalated on returning home, where I spent the next four hours alternating between vomiting and other bodily distress, all while unintentionally keeping her awake. While the ice cream itself was delicious, I can’t say the same for the experience that followed. Proceed with caution.
Brendan M — Google review
Lovely flavours but both our ice creams were too soft and melted before we could eat them, sticky hands and a messy table was the result.
Daniel D — Google review
Mint chocolate chip was fine on a cone. Refreshing for a hot day so no arguments with the ice cream. They should be wiping down the tables outside constantly so you have a place to sit. The staff wasn’t overly friendly but wasn’t rude either.
Jane F — Google review
Appalling service! We were there Tuesday 29th July at 9.15pm, waited 15 minutes then told by the surly disinterested staff they were closed so not serving us. The people in front of us had also been waiting a while and the son was served but not the dad. We finally got served but the two boys serving literally threw our icecreans at us so they fell It was such a joke!! 😠 then watching them ’cleaning’ well lets not go there 😳
JULIE H — Google review
Someone was in front of me waiting to be served but the girl behind the counter ignored them, even after I pointed them out. She also didn't clean up after the last ice cream she prepared so that got mixed in with mine. She didn't crush up the mix-ins properly and then she charged me for a large after giving me a regular after I asked for a large. She just did not look like she wanted to be there
Thomas P — Google review
Hands down the worst experience ever. Google wants you to evaluate on three fronts, food, service and atmosphere, then let's take a look at them shall we? I visited the store twice on my holidays as it was at a prime location next to Coles. I always like to try something new, and the "Hot Rocks" caught my attention right away. I asked whether there was a picture of it somewhere, but none were to be found. So the staff literally took the recipe off the wall and showed it to me. I couldn't really tell from all the text at a glance, so I took a chance and ordered it anyway. Then bizarrely, she put the recipe down and started to study it intensively as if she never made it before, which got me worried about the quality of what I was about to receive. But it turned out okayish, although a bit melty probably due to the warm temp in the store thanks to the broken door stopper which always left the door half open and let the extreme heat pour in. And that's probably what also caused the heavy condensation on the counter glass and made it almost impossible to see the ice creams, not to mention pick them. The second time I walked into the store, the staff changed to a young man (boy was more like it). This time I asked for a large smoothie with two flavours of ice creams, double choc and lemon sorbet. After some running around he came back to me saying that they ran out of large cups?! (which was unbelievable to me at the time, then I quickly found out why) So I said no worries, a regular would do. He responded "Uh...okay" with a noticeable hesitation (again, I found out why shortly afterwards). He got down to it and came back to me with the smallest "regular" sized cup I've ever seen (not that much bigger than a coffee cup). Now I think about, I'm pretty certain it was actually a small cup, only claimed as a regular one. And the only conclusion I could draw was that they ran out of regular cups as well, and the poor boy probably didn't have the heart to tell me again. But that was the least of the problems. I took one sip of it, and my first reaction was that he forgot to put in the ice creams. Because that thing was as smooth as milk with NO SUBSTANCE, NO FLAVOURS whatsoever, and it was ROOM temperature for Pete's sake! No wonder they don't stock up on any cups, because no SANE people would ever go back and order it again!!! So let's review the three aspects again, i.e. food, service and atmosphere, shall we? I think it's safe to say that the food is "bad". The service is basic. And the atmosphere is non-existent! (imagine eating melting ice creams in a warm bathroom, that's what it feels like to eat in the store) I did discover that this brand is a franchise. So maybe it was just this store that was bad, or even that their other products were actually good. So don't listen to me, go and see for yourselves.
Leon L — Google review
Really friendly staff who are happy to help out with your custom icecream request. The art of adding your mix ins to the icecream is a display worth experiencing.

I visited Bubble Bean today, and I was amazed with the place and their products. I tried dark chocolate with almonds, which blew my mind. P.S they have a comfy couch as well, you can sit and enjoy your coffee. A must visit place for sure.

Hands down my favourite dairy free chocolate and as someone who cannot consume dairy I have tried a LOT. Bumble Bean chocolate is silky-smooth, has a delicious flavour and all the different varieties I've tried so far (Honeycomb, Almond Clusters, Freckle, Choc Crocodile, Choc Mango and the Advent calendar dark chocolates) have been equally delicious. Used to live in Darwin but moved down to S.A a couple months back and am so glad Bumble Bean offer Aus wide shipping. Chocolates were packaged extremely well and they made it in mint condition. The thank you note included was also a lovely touch. Overall great customer service and high quality, unique products - couldn't ask for more :)

We went to the Frog chocolate making workshop today and had a wonderful experience! The owner is such a genuine lovely man who really took his time to explain the history of the store and chocolate making process, with a awesome sense of humour! The chocolates we got were delicious and very generous for the price! Highly reccomend that people go support this amazing local business. Cannot rate it highly enough

I bought chocolate from this company in the airport and wanted to see the shop and i was really surprised! The shop was cute, there is a lot of choice! The staff was really nice, smilling, giving me a lot of recommendations. I tried the white hot chocolate it was really nice🥰 I also took the marshmallow stick chocolate my kids loving it! Im gonna come back! Thanks a lot !

We went here yesterday because it was recommended to us. Terrible service, unfriendly staff, very bad atmosphere and very expensive for very substandard chocolate, no taste at top shelf prices. Steer clear of this over the top place. Awful chocolate. Do not recommend

This popular gelateria is perfect for cooling off in the heart of Darwin. With a wide variety of flavours, you can't go wrong with any choice. And if you're gluten free, be sure to try out the gelato!
After dinner, we visited La Granita and were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were kind enough to let us sample different flavors before making our choice. They offer a wide variety of ice cream flavors, catering to different tastes—whether you prefer something sweet, sour, or a mix. The place has plenty of seating, and we especially enjoyed sitting outside, where the night atmosphere is vibrant with music and people. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy some ice cream at night.
Emi L — Google review
La Granita is an absolute gem. The ambience perfectly matches the shop’s aesthetic — bright, inviting, and full of character. The décor gives the space a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer just to enjoy the atmosphere. Customer service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and genuine. The staff made the experience feel personal and relaxed. And of course, the gelato itself was outstanding: rich in flavour, smooth in texture, and clearly made with care. Overall, La Granita delivers on all fronts — taste, service, and setting. It’s the kind of place you’d easily recommend to friends or make a regular stop for your dessert fix.
Peter G — Google review
Michael is phenomenal and this place came recommended from George from Stone Monkey. Pistachio is amazing and highly recommended. Cherry-chocolate was quite delicious. Sampling is available and encouraged to find the right flavour. Sorbets also available. I came back on a Tuesday at 2030 and they were sold out :(. I will be coming back.
Matthew A — Google review
Absolutely faultless gelato's & sorbet's! 🍦 🍨 We are visiting Darwin & went for dessert after reading such great reviews! I am on a very low dairy diet & so was very happy with the sorbets on offer (so much so that we bought a takehome pack!). The owner was very professional despite having a line of customers literally out the door to the sidewalk! The only negatives we would note is to allow time to purchase as we were in the shop for around 15+ min's (it was a Wed night around 7.30pm in peak season though), & the flow of traffic was an issue that, in busy periods especially, could have been helped by a que going around the outskirts of the shop rather than through the middle of the shop. Still, the wait was so worth it & we will tell our friends traveling to Darwin take sure they get their gelato here 👌 👨‍🍳 🍦 🍨 thank you! ☺️
Louise K — Google review
Best thing that happened to me in Darwin: I found this lovely gelato place. Worst thing that happened to me: I found it on the last night of my trip. Tried hazelnut and mint chocolate. I must say it's so good that I wish I could go back to Darwin for it. 😍

Having spent 12 days in Italy recently enjoying ice cream everyday it was a real treat to find this place. The creme brulee ice cream was some of the best I've had. Rich, creamy ice cream with a delicious flavour. Lovely guy serving.

Hands down the best chocolate gelato I’ve ever had, from a self proclaimed chocolate gelato connoisseur. Dimitrios Speciality Cakes is a beloved cake shop in Darwin, known for its delectable and moist cakes that are not overly sweet. Customers praise the great customer service and attention to detail when taking orders. Many have fond memories of visiting the shop since childhood, making it a nostalgic favorite. The store offers a variety of Greek treats, with highlights including kataifi and chocolate baklavas.
I don't remember too well as this was 9 years ago but this looks just like the little family bakery my dad and I walked into to get my 10th birthday cake. It was a stunningly decorated white (vanilla?) custard cake. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was in April 2015. I had previously enjoyed a flan and wanted a similar flavour and cake for my 10th birthday and they delivered very well.

I am really disappointed with the service. You might be making good cakes but I feel service is important. Would never recommend to anyone because I don't want my friends to go through what I have experienced. You just spoiled my day...The only suggestion please be kind to all your customers.

I have always heard this place does great cakes. I have always been meaning to try them and I just did and I am glad I did. Worth every cent. The cake was so yummy. Nice and moist and light and not too sweet. I have ordered a cake for my sons baptism too so we will look forward to that. If you haven't tried them yet do not leave it because it might be out of your way. They are worth the journey. Plus great customer service. Asked many questions and wrote plenty details down.

Have been ordering from this little family shop for many years. The quality of food has not changed since I was a child, always fresh daily. My personal favourites are the Milfae (best to get at lunch as it always sells out), the profiteroles, and the chocolate mousse cups. Family very lovely too.

VERY RUDE, NOT POLITE AND DOES NOT RESPECT CUSTOMERS. We have been a long-time customer for this shop, went there Saturday morning (10/Feb/2024) to order a customized cake. We discussed with the girl available sizes and pricing, the largest size as she said is starting from $220.0 and the smaller size according to her is in the range $120-$175. We agreed to come later to bring the design, which we did and came one hour later. We gave the design, and the girl took all the details, we decided to go with the smaller size. The girl went inside and checked with Dimitrios, and came back saying the price is $275.0. I know it is their shop and they can charge whatever they want for their service. I just asked her to go back and confirm it is the smaller size that we want not the largest (this is way above what she quoted earlier). Everything was quiet and friendly. She went inside and few minutes later Dimitrios came out and he was very angry, and his lips were shaking, he took the papers with the details and teared them in our face, saying in an angry and non-respective voice “I CAN NOT MAKE YOU CAKE, GO OUT”. We did not say a word and left, but I will never ever step into that shop again and will spread the word. Very disappointing behaviour from a local business, I used to visit very frequently. I went directly to another business and ordered the cake.

3.5 stars The young girl was nice, with smiles. Various choices of ice cream and sorbet. Ordered one scoop and waffle cone $6.5 Flavor: - Coconut - Fruits of the Forrest Yummy, but melting very fast in the hot day. Had to eat fast as possible.

Had a quick desert after a nice meal at The wharf. My wife had Sticky Date pudding which was soft and light and served with a choice of their ice creams. I had a cookies and cream in a waffle cone which was okay. A couple of school age staff were friendly helpful and efficient.

Very yummy ice cream with a great range of flavours! Best of all was the customer service from the young girl serving. She was friendly, helpful and a credit to the owners. We attended on 2/6/23.

The ice cream is. Nice but we went In there to a lady who was very rude and grumpy yelling at kids for leaving the door open for other customers she refused to make frappes or pancakes and would not even use the soft serve machine and then when she scoops the ice cream she does it in such a angry way it was funny but just sad of how rude they where not to mention over priced

Ice cream shop
Porkies Milk Bar is a vibrant counter-serve chain known for its satisfying pies, sausage rolls, and sandwiches. While it may not boast top-notch ambience or prices, it's a go-to spot for coffee enthusiasts. As the sister cafe to Four Birds, this local gem excels in milk and espresso-based beverages. Whether you're grabbing a takeaway coffee or indulging in sweet treats, Porkies Milk Bar offers a cozy setting with excellent baked goods options and attentive service.
Very local store with good baked goods options, good coffee, quiet sitting areas and great service.

Unenthusiastic young boy serving behind counter who didn't seem interested at all in the actual product. Our little cups were only half filled so a few mouthfuls and it was gone. I didn't think it was good value at all, could of gone to woolies and bought a 2 ltr of ice cream for cheaper.
