1Cai Rang Floating Market

Floating market
Cai Rang Floating Market is a vibrant and bustling marketplace located about 6km from Can Tho City in Vietnam. It is renowned for being the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta, attracting hundreds of boats each day. The market offers a wide variety of agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat, as well as prepared food and drink items like rice noodles and fruit juice.
These days, the market isn’t as crowded or lively as it used to be. Most of it now is set up for tourists to experience local life. A private boat trip costs around 500k vnd. If you want to save money, you can join a shared boat, but usually need to wait until about 7 AM when enough people show up. It’s worth going early to catch the sunrise, the river view in the morning is peaceful and beautiful. Boats on the river sell quick bites like bun mam and hu tieu. You’ll also find boats selling fruit and handmade local crafts, pretty fun to check out! People here live on their boats and do everything from cooking to trading right there, it’s a unique lifestyle of the Mekong Delta. If you’re in Can Tho, this is definitely something you should experience!
Annie P — Google review
After a very early start we travelled by boat to this floating market. Enjoyable boat ride but the market was very underwhelming. More tourist boats than market boats! This tourist attraction may be in decline as the real market activity is increasingly on land.
Michael C — Google review
The photos they post on google and on their adverts are very outdated, so this is like “expectation” vs “reality” We went to the Cai Rang Floating Market to experience their so call “vibrant floating market” hoping we would see the same things as what we saw on google and on the tours advertisements. We took the private boat tour and even went there very early because they said that the market starts at 6am, and it’s better to come early because that is when the floating market are busier but i’ll let you be the judge, I have attached some photos for your reference. Nevertheless, the experience is still cool up to an extent Our tour includes a visit to the Cacao farm (but they ask for entrance fee at the farm whether you are in a tour or just walk-in) And a two more places along the Mekong Delta but it will always depend on your agreement with the tour agents
Shiela — Google review
The floating market was not so special. It was very organized and made only for tourists. The real river markets are probably only deeper inside the country. But the breakfast — Pho soup on the river — was very good. The taste was even better because of the nice atmosphere. Price 2 USD, for the soup.
JB — Google review
Cai Rang Floating Market is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Can Tho. We woke up early to enjoy a pleasant boat ride to the market. Although it now caters more to tourists than serving as a traditional market, it was still enjoyable to see a part of the traditional lifestyle in the Mekong Delta, where people sell food and fruit directly from their boats.
Den L — Google review
Get there whilst you can. Our tour guide said there used to be 15 floating markets, but with the increase of bridges and modern vehicles, there is only 1 left. This market is subsidised by the government yo try and keep it alive. It's certainly an experience worth having a look at.
Jimmy F — Google review
⚠️Don’t waste your money here Nothing about this works. Around the pier, people will try to sell you overpriced tickets, but the truth is: there’s nothing worth seeing. You’ll have to wake up at 4:30 AM because boats are supposed to leave at 5. In reality, we spent an hour sitting at the pier waiting for latecomers. The “tour” then takes you to have “breakfast” at 6:30, where a few small boats approach to sell fruit, then to another stop to buy groceries, then yet another stop to buy miscellaneous goods in a bazaar. It’s a tourist trap from start to finish, with nothing genuinely interesting to see. The guides only speak Vietnamese, so you’ll have no idea what you’re doing or where you are. You’ll be hopping on and off the boat endlessly, like livestock, after waking up in the middle of the night. Completely not worth it.

Bistro
Quán Bánh xèo 7 Tới is a popular dining spot in the heart of Can Tho, offering a delightful culinary experience with its signature Vietnamese pancakes. The restaurant provides a cozy ambiance and traditional flavors that embody the warmth of Southern Vietnam hospitality. While this dish can be found throughout Vietnam, the Mekong Delta version stands out for its generous fillings of pork, bean sprouts, and shrimp.
This is the BEST banh xeo I've ever had!!! Sooo different to what I've traditionally eaten and sooo good! The batter is light and crispy, not oily at all...the coconut shoots are soooo tasty. Service was good, they were all very sweet. I wish I'd eaten more!!
Vivien N — Google review
we decided to try this place after seeing some good reviews on YouTube. I am not sure if we were just unlucky ! we ordered 2 banh xeo, both were soft, not crunchy. It appeared that they served us those they already made, instead of making them when we ordered . We also ordered one serve of Banh Khot. It was also very oily,so we left more than half.
David L — Google review
First Banh Xeo I’ve had in Can Tho, recommended by my friend. It was a good meal for 85k. I wished the banh xeo was crispy, but at least the banh khot was. Definitely different with the coconut trunk. Strips of bbq duck would have been awesome but it was ground duck meat instead with occasional bone fragments to pick out. Generous mound of vegetables. I’m glad I tried it but wouldn’t be my go to spot for banh xeo.
Drew — Google review
💛 Quan Banh Xeo 7 toi has excellent bánh khọt . It's the best I've had in Vietnam! It's flavourful, crispy and filled over the top with mung bean and shrimp. Biting into it is fun as well. I prefer it more than their bánh xèo! 🥗 They also provide generous servings of leafy green vegetables. It's the easiest way to get in your fibre intake. The restaurant was smoky when we arrived and the smoke kept us company as we walked out. Service was friendly and getting waitstaff attention is easy, but unsure how it will go with tourists. Other Google reviews suggests it will be ok! 😊
Jasmine ( — Google review
The best sizzling crepes (bánh xèo) in town, in my opinion. My personal favorite is the bánh xèo with coconut core 😉(củ hủ dừa). The mini pancake (bánh khọt) is also an excellent choice. Neither dish is overly oily, and they are served hot with a bountiful assortment of fresh mixed vegetables. Highly recommended - they are absolutely worth the experience.
Thanh ( — Google review
Food was nice, fresh, and clean. Service was attentive as well. Price overall was good. Only 1 small issue, table and chairs was for a smaller stature or kids. Maybe ro increase the amount of guest, I'm not sure.
J C — Google review
Cheap banh xeo, crispy banh khot. Food doesn't taste greasy but my only complaint is the vit xiem (ground duck meat) was grounded with bones in them..so there were a lot of bites that had tiny bone fragments in them. Lots of herbs that tasted good together and I had no idea what half of them were.
Dan V — Google review
The banh xeo was fantastic! The crispy crepe held a delicious filling of savory duck meats and shrimp, while the coconut milk and green beans added a rich depth of flavor. The restaurant wasn't too crowded, and the staff was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this dish!

Cai Be Market is a lively floating wholesale market situated on the Mekhong River, at the meeting point of Tien Giang, Ben Tre, and Vinh Long provinces. It's renowned for its cultural significance and serves as a major trading center in the Southwest region. Each morning, boats from nearby districts gather here to sell an array of goods including fresh produce, flowers, household items, and more.
I would suggest going early early. We went around noon. As you can see we were able to rent a whole boat for just the two of us and rent it cheaply. But most the boats were closed down For nap time.

There was nothing of a floating market. NOTHING, nothing nothing. What a pity! We’re there at 4:30 am to 7 am and there was NOTHING. Some very busy lady wanted to sell tickets … for what? Apparently, previous to the pandemic, there was a big floating market.
Julica O — Google review
Doesn’t exist no more due to Covid but it’s definitely worth going on a tour through the delta BUT: if you book a tour make it more than clear that you don’t travel around the world for souvenir shops and that you want to see the river and channels, nothing more. In the Cai Be zone, we got showed candy manufactures and other stuff what basically serves to navigate you through products. They insist for tips even though you didn’t ask nor booked for a souvenir shop tour. The river, channels and the local market where the floating market used to be are worth a visit.

Our day tour activity at Mekong Delta which takes about 2 hours drive from Ho Chi Minh City, we boarded a motor boat 🚤cruised along the Mekong River and the vast network of canals to enjoy the wonderful view and Cai Be Floating Market. Unfortunately, most of the business was closed due to the rain, we couldn't get any tropical fruits 🍌🍉🍍there, this is the reason I have to plan a return trip.....✌🏻Enjoyed a break for coconut water, fresh fruitsssss (jackfruit and dragon fruit😋)of Delta with Vietnamese traditional music performance🎶 in the fruit garden. Here landed an Island for the cottage industry: coconut factory🍬, honey🍯tea garden, rice paper workshop, pop rice workshop, handicraft workshop. Riverside lunch including rice paper roll🌯, a special 🐠elephant fish, chicken, vegetables soup .... yummy yum yum!!! Cycling around the village to end this fantastic tour🚲. 🚩 Group size: 9ppl with tour guide + driver Pick up: 7:30-8am@my hotel Drop off: 5:30-6pm@my hotel

Nothing much special to see if you are from Asia. The floating market is merely boats selling food stuff and fruits to tourists. The journey is too far from HCM city and not worth the time. Spent at least two hours plus on road to reach Mekong river.
Nick T — Google review
Cai Be Floating Market is situated in the area where the Tien River meets the 3 provinces, Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Ben Tre. From Ho Chi Minh City, it will take you roughly 2 hours to travel by car to the wharf, followed by a one-hour boat ride. There are quite a few things you should keep in mind before visiting Cai Be Floating Market: - The boat rides will be somewhat rough and shaky, especially the traditional ones. Make sure you’re not a seasick type. - Put on enough sunscreens and insect repellant. Dress properly with light clothes, as it might get a bit cold early in the morning, and then very hot after 9 am. Bring along a hat. - Double check the price and stopping points before you hop on any boat. Don’t forget to take photos of a huge Catholic cathedral on the riverside, which will look best on photos taken from afar.

You can witness the manufacturing process of the goods produced at this place. Its not for show reasons, what you see is the real production. Mainly traditionally handmade food processing. The sweets you get are delicious and some of them, like sesam-honey sticks, famous all over the world. Here you can see how these are produced. Or. Rice pops.

Amazing Place with Coconut-Themed Delights This is an incredible destination where everything revolves around the coconut! Not only can you see and experience the traditional process of making various goods from coconuts, but you can also immerse yourself in the rich local culture that celebrates this versatile fruit. The food here is equally impressive, with dishes like Bánh Xèo and Khọt standing out as particularly delicious, infused with the delightful aroma of coconut. Beyond coconuts, the area also boasts a variety of other plants, including dưa vàng (yellow melon) and nho (grapes), making it a diverse and vibrant place to explore

We stopped here during our 4-day cycling tour of the Mekong delta. The ambiance is so calm fronting the water and the decor is beautiful. Our room, decked out completely in coconut wood, was clean and the shower worked well. I especially enjoyed trying the local dishes and experiencing the unique culture of the region. I'm glad we stopped here to enjoy the beauty of the Mekong and the hospitality of the locals.

For 30,000 vnd this bowl of banh beo was so so so delicious. You can add on extra toppings if you’d like. The service is fast. Would come back everytime I’m in Ho Chi Minh City

Bánh Bèo Chợ Bến Thành is a must-visit food stall in the heart of Ben Thanh Market, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Specializing in bánh bèo (Vietnamese water fern cake), this stall offers a traditional dish that captures the essence of central Vietnamese cuisine. Bánh bèo consists of soft, steamed rice flour cakes topped with minced shrimp, crispy pork skin, and scallions, all enhanced with a light, flavorful fish sauce. Located in the historic Ben Thanh Market, which has been a bustling trade hub since the early 1900s, the stall provides a chance to savor authentic Vietnamese flavors in a lively and iconic setting. While some staff may speak basic English, visiting with local friends can greatly enhance the experience and help you navigate the vibrant market environment. For a true taste of Vietnamese street food culture, this bánh bèo stall is a culinary highlight you won’t want to miss!

A must try on the outside edge of the food stalls. So many different & interesting textures & flavours. This place is super popular but the turnover is quick. A absolute bargain of a dish too at 20000!? So good i visited twice!

I’ve never had bánh bèo like this before. Lots of textures and flavours. Highly recommended if you’re in the area! It’s right next to a sinh tố place so I ordered a durian avo shake as well which was delicious!

This popular stall is located within Ben Thanh Market. It’s a must try if you are looking for local cuisine. Interesting favour and texture which is on the sweeter side. No tables available so you will need to eat like a local with small stools and chairs provided.

Bánh Cống Cô Út is a popular street food in Can Tho, Vietnam. This savory muffin is made from a mixture of green beans, minced pork, and little shrimp. The process involves steaming the mixture and then deep-frying it in flour dough to achieve a crispy texture.
A very delicious little snack. The deep-friend shrimp cakes are served with a plate of greens and a bowl of fish sauce. I first visited this little shop in the afternoon when when it opened and I didn't know then there was a method to eating this dish. In the evening of the same day, I returned to this shop with a small group street food tour and was shown by the guide how to properly enjoy it. You're supposed to take a small piece of the cake and wrap it with a piece of each vegetable and then dip it in the fish sauce for full experience and it is quite delicious. Recommended.

Amy W — Google review
This place definitely lives up to the hype, the cakes are delicious and crispy on the outside and has a kind of filling that you would find in a bao bun. The fried outside is balanced by all the fresh leaves and herbs you are given to create a roll. Worth a visit, as haven't had these anywhere else!

The facilities are clean and accessible, with easy reach to the ferry for exploring An Binh island. Located right on the Mekong, it provides breathtaking sunsets in the evening. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and guests can enjoy delicious meals while taking in the beautiful view of the river and garden.
A little slice of paradise by the Mekong Mekong Riverside Homestay is a true gem, perfectly located right on the banks of the river, offering a peaceful and enchanting setting. The charm of the place is undeniable, and my room with a terrace and direct view of the Mekong was a huge highlight. The air conditioning worked flawlessly. The meals were absolutely delicious and varied. The homestay offers a wide range of services, including massages, bike and motorbike tours, and assistance with bus transportation, all without ever being pushy about it. The owners are incredibly kind and genuinely caring, with no pressure to use the services, they simply want every guest to leave happy and satisfied. An absolute delight. I highly recommend this place for an unforgettable stay by the Mekong.

I had a truly wonderful experience at Mekong Riverside Homestay An Bình, Vĩnh Long. The homestay is beautifully located right by the river, offering peaceful views and a relaxing atmosphere. The hosts are incredibly warm, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything you need. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and give a real local touch of the Mekong Delta. What I loved most was the authentic experience – from enjoying delicious home-cooked meals with fresh local ingredients to exploring the surroundings by boat and bicycle. It felt less like staying at a hotel and more like being part of a family. I highly recommend Mekong Riverside Homestay to anyone who wants to discover the beauty, culture, and hospitality of the Mekong Delta in the most genuine way.

We had a wonderful time on the peaceful island of An Binh. The restaurant area where you can read and relax overlooks the Mekong, with beautiful sunsets. The owners' boat tour is varied, informative and very enjoyable. You can borrow bicycles or hire motorbikes to explore the island. The set menu is absolutely delicious - highly recommend staying here!
Sarah B — Google review
We booked a room with river view but when we arrived it smelled really musty so we changed rooms for one that was a bit better. The mattresses still had a rubber smell but we can live with that. What wasn't good was that all the rooms seemed to just have nets over the windows, no proper curtains. We got a couple of extra sheets and pinned these up and it was good we did as there was a light on behind the room at the back all night. The room was still light at 6am. We booked for 2 nights and ordered the set special dinner no2 the first night. The food was OK when it came, nothing really special if you've already been eating Vietnamese food, the salad didn't come at all and the vegetables were changed for a different veg. When we asked about ir, the landlady said the cook would redo it. She did redo the veg but with no garlic so there was no taste, and the salad never appeared. The landlady had disappeared by then but we called her and she said she was sorry and would cook for us for free the next night. We weren't sure about this as the food hadn't been that impressive but the next day she went out and changed her mind anyway and by phone said we could have the salad and had to pay for anything else. We weren't happy about any of this and decided to cut our losses and leave. Her husband, who was nice, part refunded us the second night. If it's your first SE Asia river experience, it's an ok place to sit and have a beer but there's more pleasant hosts and better value rooms and food around. It just seemed to be all about the money and once we'd said we didn't want to do a boat trip as we'd already been, the landlady wasn't interested. You also have to pay 60 dong to use the hotel bicycles, which is unusual. So glad we decided to leave as we went over the river to Vinh Long and stayed at the Paris Hotel and Cafe which a was fabulous 1920s style, sparkling clean gem of a place at just over half the price of here with an amazingly friendly owner who spoke perfect French and decent English, so it all worked out for the best.

Love this place. We stayed 5 nights to relax and sightsee leisurely. Our host respected our wishes, not pushy at all. Hired a scooter, rode the courtesy bicycles; rustic but functional and fun. Did the boat tour, lovely morning on the river. No pushy sales, just to view local industry, really informative and interesting. We walked from ferry by choice; not far at all. Clean, kettle, nice shower, great riverside views. Dinners were delicious and never disappointed and vegetarian meals too. Wife is a marvellous chef. Lots of variety and substantial meal portions, relaxing service on the deck. Host organized bus and pick up shuttle to bus station to depart, everything worked out. Thank you. Highly recommend this place, stay a while its very chill.

(Translated by Google) The shop is clean, easy to find, and sells take away. Available for retail sale (2 pieces priced at 35k each type of cake). - Palm sugar beef cake: The cake is fragrant with the smell of eggs, has the caramel taste of palm sugar, not too sweet, the top half is spongy and the bottom half is flexible, quite delicious. The cake is at normal temperature, not hot. - Pumpkin cake (red): Quite similar to mousse cake (smooth) but not as powdery as I thought, stored cold. Not too sweet either. Not as delicious as jaggery beef cake but still delicious to eat. The cake as shown below costs 70k. The price seems a bit expensive, I'll probably just eat it to show off and not buy again. Bánh nhiệt độ thường, không nóng. - Bánh bí (đỏ): Khá giống bánh mousse (mịn) chứ không bị bột như mình nghĩ, được bảo quản lạnh. Cũng không quá ngọt. Market
Phong Dien Floating Market offers an intimate and authentic experience with more stand-up rowing boats than motorized ones. It differs from the larger Cai Rang market as it is less frequented by both locals and tourists, creating a charming atmosphere during dawn. Visitors can enjoy fresh fruit from vendors and capture picturesque scenes of the sunrise behind the bridge. The market is accessible through guided tours or by scooter from Can Tho, providing a beautiful experience for early morning visitors.
What a beautiful experience! We did a little early morning trip to this floating market and it was so delightful! The morning fuss, the organized mess, the beautiful sunrise while having a delicious coffee and a yummy pho 🍜 Definitely recommend it! Also is the cutest lady that sells the coffee in this market also sells the most amazing banana chips that I’ve ever had! You will find it a little bit more expensive than normal prices on the street, but don’t forget that it will be a little bit touristy and they are selling from a boat! Definitely worth a visit in the early morning!
Seomara P — Google review
Authentic little floating market. Takes place very early in the morning and is less touristy. There are about 20 boats. We were there around 6am. It is worth it as there is still a real trade. They mainly sell food and fruit, vegetables and dishes.

It was a great floating market experience even there weren’t much boats selling stuff but still a different experience to woke up at 3:30 in the morning and sail under the stars to reach the market in the sun rise. The seller women were so friendly and smiling.
Guzide D — Google review
Loved our boat tour to this small but authentic floating market. This floating market differs a bit from the larger Cai Rang market: it is mainly smaller boats and it is much less frequented, both by locals and tourists. We very much liked the atmosphere during dawn with the sun rising behind us illuminating the scene in a beautiful way. Cai Rang has a lot of very big boats, that people live one plus the smaller boats buying vegetables wholesale and carrying them to the street markets. If you want to experience both, it is best to book your tour starting at one of the homestays located between the two markets. Phong Dien opens and closes early in the day, Cai Rang runs all day long.
