Nestled in the heart of Aberdeen, The Bread Maker is a charming artisan bakery and coffee shop that truly embodies the spirit of community. This social enterprise not only serves up an array of freshly baked loaves and delightful pastries made from high-quality ingredients but also plays a vital role in supporting local individuals by providing training opportunities for those with disabilities. Visitors can enjoy a cozy atmosphere while savoring delicious coffee—often hailed as some of the best around—and indulging in scrumptious cakes at reasonable prices.
Arrived on the Caledonian Sleeper and wanted a good cup of black coffee but only the chain coffee shops appeared to open early in the city centre. The Bread Maker is easy to navigate to and about a ten minute walk from the station - and luckily it opened 8.30am! Coffee shop had friendly service, nice atmosphere and even a little book exchange.

Bought one of the Bread Maker Mothers Day afternoon tea gifts to collect/take away. It was absolutely HUGE, looked amazing and tasted fantastic. Brilliant value for money and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. A great wee place where they clearly care about what they do.

I ordered sandwich platters for a birthday party. Couldn't fault the service or food received from The Bread Maker. They were so helpful when emailing and offering advice on amount to order for expected guests. Sandwiches were freshly made in time for me collecting, and well filled. They have great selection of fillings and allow you to mix and match the type of bread/wrap/softie used for the fillings. I received great feedback from guests, that they were some of the best sandwiches they had had. I will 100% be back for any future party catering requirements.

"I recently visited The Bread Maker Coffee House and I must say, the experience was absolutely wonderful. The food was not only delicious but prepared with great care, making my meal here truly special. The staff were incredibly respectful and kind, which made me feel very welcomed. I just want to say a huge thank you to the team for the amazing service and the effort they put into everything. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and warm hospitality!"

Suma Cafe is a charming spot with a delightful interior design and comfortable furniture. While the radio can be a bit loud, the overall ambiance is cool and inviting, providing a peaceful escape from Aberdeen's bustling streets. The service is friendly and attentive, and the food exceeds expectations, with dishes like waffles with brisket, chicken crepes, and avocado toast receiving high praise. The cafe also offers unique drinks like Pink & Blue Lattes that are highly recommended.
Amazing experience. Went into town for some last minute shopping and stumbled across suma. Probably one of the most delicious and aesthetically pleasing cafes I have ever been in. Service was outstanding, no flaws and was well kept throughout our meal. Tried the chicken pancakes & brisket pancakes and these were to die for!!!! What was even better is that they did a meal deal, therefore included fries and a cold drink for such a good price. Recommend fully.
Kirsty S — Google review
One of my favourites! Went there with my friend yesterday and ordered an iced latte and an avocado toast. The presentation of the food was beautiful but most of all, it was delicious! The owner welcome us with a smile, kept checking up on us about our food, and making friendly conversation the whole time. If you're ever passing by, this place is 100% worth your visit!
Zuzanna G — Google review
I was initially a bit hesitant to give this place a try, as aesthetic cafes and restaurants often fall short when it comes to the quality of their food. However, this place did not disappoint. I opted for the crispy chicken burger and my spouse went for the beef cheese burger and we were both impressed with the quality and taste of the food as well as the atmosphere and friendly and professional service. Would recommend!
H H — Google review
The girls (insta: girlschataberdeen_) all loved the decor and atmosphere here! Food was delish and mocktails fab, very speedy with replying to our messages and accomodating to our last minute changes, thank you again Suma Cafe! X

Had a lovely brunch with my friends at Suma's- staff was very attentive, the food was delicious and the mocktails are to die for. The lunch menu looked really nice as well. We'll definitely be back- could not recommended this more.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently hosted my friend’s bridal shower at Suma Cafe Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish! Atmosphere:The decor is a perfect mix of chic and cozy, with a warm and welcoming vibe that made us feel right at home. Food: Every dish was a hit, especially the chicken burgers and cheesecake, which was absolutely divine. The food was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Cocktails:The cocktails were a highlight—each one was expertly crafted and delicious. The signature Suma blue sunset is a must-try! Service:The staff was incredible, going above and beyond to make our celebration special. They were attentive, friendly, and truly made the night memorable. Suma Cafe is the perfect place for any special occasion especially bridal showers or a great night out. We had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back!

Almondine is a popular cafe located on Thistle Street in Aberdeen, just off Union Street. It's known for its central city center location, making it a convenient stop before or after exploring the city. The cafe is open from 10 am to 5 pm throughout the week and is particularly praised for its delicious cakes and scones. Almondine offers delightful Afternoon Teas with an elegant ambiance featuring a beautiful flower wall backdrop and fine duck-egg blue china.
It’s a nice, cosy, stylish place. We used to visit in Inveruri. We set out to try everything in this cafe and we almost did it. Each dessert is unique and has a very natural taste. This is an amazing place in this city.
MARYNA — Google review
I recently attended a bridal shower afternoon tea here. The experience was wonderful from start to finish. The ladies working there were very welcoming and great sports letting us decorate the table with vases, candles, and photos. The food was absolutely delicious, 10/10 for sure! There's something for everyone, even vegetarian options, if I remember correctly. The afternoon tea costs us £30 per person, and the food is really good value for money. I was full by the end and didn't manage to finish everything. My favourites were the scones with clotted cream and jam, plus the rhubarb crumble dessert. So good! The aesthetics made for fantastic photos as well. We now have pictures we'll treasure forever. I'd highly recommend booking with them. You won't regret it!

Nice little boutique cafe. Very friendly, helpful, and patient staff. Wide selection of teas and coffee as well as amazing sweet treats. Popular and busy cafe situated in Aberdeen's west end. Highly recommended.

Almondine is an absolute treasure in Aberdeen. Every time I visit, I’m blown away by the quality and beauty of their pastries, they look like little works of art and taste even better. The macarons are easily a 10/10, and I’ve never been disappointed by any of the cakes either. The staff are always so kind and welcoming, especially the lovely Canadian girl, and the owners clearly takes pride in what they do. It’s one of those places that just makes you happy. I’ll always keep coming back!
Dana M — Google review
Gorgeous French style patisserie with a good selection of macarons and cakes. The seating area is a little small and is often reserved at busy times, so best to arrive early or reserve in advance.
Laura M — Google review
I had a wonderful experience at this café! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is incredibly polite and helpful. The service was excellent, making the visit even more enjoyable. The cakes were not only beautifully presented but also absolutely delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great place to relax and enjoy a sweet treat!

WOW WOW WOW!! I was a bit wary about having cakes sent in the post but I was not disappointed. They came in perfect condition and taste amazing. Delivery was super speedy. I will definitely be ordering again!! Thank you so much ⭐️😍⭐️

What an absolute gem. Found Annies by accident in my hour of need having made a bit of a mess of finding a birthday cake for my partner while in the area on holiday. Impeccable cake, scone and coffees while we mulled a custom order to solve the cake crisis. Engaging friendly staff, great quality food, great view from their perch up the hill. Faultless.
Marc H — Google review
We went here for a coffee before an appointment. Husband loved his caramel macchiato, FIL had an americano and I had a wonderful latte. We each had a different sweet piece which were so good my husband bought a small selection of scones and cakes to take home. The scones were so fresh they were still warm. The bakers were filling the display with fresh goodies as we had our drinks. Amazing staff they did have allergen sheets which we didn't make use of but were advertised as available on request. Planning to go back and have lunch sometime soon as the offerings are really tempting the menu was on the table today's soup of the day was butternut squash, scones of the day were pear & toffee, cheese or fruit. They offer sandwiches, toasties, wraps, salads and baked potatoes. Pricing was very reasonable for the portion sizes I could see.

The Highlanders Bakehouse, located near Balmoral Castle in Crathie, offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The bakery, run by Cordon Bleu-trained chef Shona Jamieson, is housed in a converted garage and serves an array of delicious baked goods. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque views while indulging in vegetarian sandwiches, vegan burgers, apple & cinnamon scones with clotted cream and jam. The warm hospitality and quick service make for a delightful experience.
Stopped past when working for some takeaway lunch. Very tasty pizza and cake. People say the prices are high? Well you’re paying for the quality and it’s homemade, so if you want cheap you can get cheap else where. Service was quick. Quirky little place and the staff were friendly today. Small local business in my eyes. Worth every penny.

Super quaint roadside bakery. Excellent food with a wide selection of freshly baked goods using local produce. Good prices, lovely strong flat whites, & friendly staff. Would absolutely go out of my way to drop in here again!! There isn’t a ton of seating, but everything is offered as takeaway, so you can stay or go.

They make some tasty food items, but I forgot the name of what I had (a thick bread with mozzarella on it). I was so hungry I couldn't see anything properly. Please keep in mind that the food items are a bit expensive, but they are homemade and tasty. You can also get burgers from this shop.

Stopped by for coffee and cake. The coffee was brilliant. Lovely staff. Cook environment. The cakes were really good, the doughnuts in particular! Dairy free options available :)

Hands down the best bakery we've been in the UK and all reasonably priced. Coffee was nice as well. We wouldn't go on another trip to Highlands without stopping there and filling our bags with goodies.

Highly recommended by many past patrons. The sweet pastries were 100% delicious, the savory not so much. Wish we had had time to enjoy their brunch options on - site.

I would give this more stars if I could! Rowies (butteries) were out of this world and the chocolate and hazelnut swirl was to die for! Don't pass this place by without a stop off you won't regret it! Will be back for sure. Staff lovely and everything cooked fresh by the owner. Seats outside and inside to eat your takeaway surrounded by gorgeous scenery. Very reasonably priced!
Natalie B — Google review
Why is five stars the maximum you can give on Google reviews? This wonderful place needs a special category for being so special. At least 10 stars required. We've been up for the weekend and discovered that there was also a shop selling Highland Bakehouse's delicious baked goods in Braemar too. It is not an exaggeration to say that we have mainly subsisted on their yummy bakery stuff the whole weekend. Packed lunch? No need. Get a special focaccia from highland bakehouse. We had one with chicken asparagus and pesto and two with cheese and bacon (between three ...) and we couldn't even get started on the pastries we also brought with us. We stopped for coffee and hot chocolate at the end of our walks each day and nearly cried when the lovely man running the place brought us cute hot water bottles while we drank the hot drinks. My husband got a Yoda hot water bottle and I got a sloth. It is really hard to recommend this place enough. I think even if deeside didn't have the gorgeous walks and the woods and the waterfalls (and the various tartan and royal stuff) it would be worth coming only to eat these pastries and drink the absolutely exquisite coffee and hot choccy. Thank you!!!!!

What a lovely Hidden Treasure in Johnshaven! The Cafe was toasty warm following the last few days of Babet’s brutality along the east coast of Scotland. I enjoyed a Flat White with a slice of Fruit Loaf and wished I purchased more for later, though most likely it would have been devoured before later. Mary Brennan, proprietor, is a delightful host and baker and as you can see in the photos her baked goods look excellent. I would love to sample them all, which warrants a trip back to Stonehaven!

Really happy with our visit to this cafe, we were greeted with a smile and immediately felt welcomed. Both food and drink were delicious and served quickly despite being slightly busy. I recommend the hot chocolate with cream, marshmallows and flake - alongside one mug of it I got some extra on the side which was a bonus! This place truly is a hidden treasure, and hopefully at the next opportunity we will be back! :)

Nestled within the scenic grounds of Haddo House, Mrs Smith's at Haddo is a charming café that offers a delightful retreat after exploring the park. Known for its inviting atmosphere, this spot serves up delicious coffee and an array of tasty sandwiches, including their standout homemade tuna melt baguette with jalapeños. The outdoor seating area features covered picnic tables and benches, perfect for enjoying a caramel latte while soaking in the beautiful surroundings.
What a great wee cafe this is after a long walk around the park to sit outside and enjoy a caramel latte and a tuna melt baguette with jalapenos which was so good we have incorporated the chili into our homemade tuna sandwiches , theres covered bench seats and tables aound the courtyard and few small tables inside.Very reasonable prices a good selection of food makes this our go to when visiting the park

Mrs Smith's at Haddo truly knows how to make a wedding cake not only look beautiful but taste absolutely incredible! Their design was the perfect fit for the couple's vision and it was such a delight to photograph. The intricate details really stood out, and it was clear the cake was made with so much care and skill. It was a showstopper that definitely got all the attention, and I can't wait to work with them again at future weddings!

Great wee cafe with good coffee, great sandwiches etc. and friendly staff Usually open when the main house cafe is shut. Very limited indoor seating, but a few picnic tables outside, some of which are covered. Only issue is, and I don't know how the cafe staff control this, are customers who think it's OK to allow their dogs to sit ON the picnic tables. Seriously?

Unbeatable on quality and price for a lunch, very good baguette sandwich for £4.50 definitely fills you up. Good outdoor seating with pleasant scenery. No brainer for a sunny day.
