Bread A Espresso is a cozy bakery and coffee shop in Nagasaki, Japan, known for its high-quality breads and espresso drinks. The compact space offers a minimalist design with the aroma of freshly baked bread welcoming guests as they wait in line to enter. With a limited food selection that includes small rolls filled with nuts and chocolate, the bakery also serves excellent coffee options like cappuccino and latte.
Pretty amazing European style breads but with a bit of Japanese touch to them. Earl Grey and Walnut Raisins are our favorites but really all of them were delicious. Special mention to the cute little olive bread which packs 2 whole olives inside. I got there at opening hour but was the 12th in queue FYI!!!

I'm quite particular about bread and often make it myself so I'm not a typical reviewer. I arrived at 6:10 and was the 5th in line. By 6:30, a line of almost 30 people had already formed.
It seems like a popular shop in the neighborhood, although many customers were first-timers.
Just by looking at the photos, I suspected the bread was slightly heavy. After having eaten it, I think it's dense.
The breads seem to use good enough ingredients and they probably don't use much oil. Artisan bread, some sourdough?
I prefer more sour breads, fluffier, chewy, hard types of breads. I think the dough could use more hydration, then it'd be chewier, too. It's not really a hard bread shop. They're soft, I think adjusted to the Japanese person's taste.
If your family likes osozai bread or kashipan (snack breads), this isn't the place for you.
The earl grey bread seem to have some white chocolate in it maybe. It was quite nice and didn't need any additional jam or butter.
The bread was moderately priced. The baker seems hardworking and dedicated to his craft. The saleswoman, smiling and pleasant.
They should sell olive oil capsules, individual jam packets or cream cheese, too. It'd pair well with their products! I used some peanut tofu to spread on top, bought at a nearby supermarket open from 7am.
30-minute line at 8am Sunday but totally worth it. By the time I get it, only Earl Grey & White Chocolate are left. Both tastes like a dream with good crunch, especially the Earl Grey.
Coffee is underrated. A lighter, more modern roast than most shops in the area.

Better than this you won’t find! Found this just by looking on the google maps app for breakfast, we’re lucky with a quiet morning on Saturday and fell in love. Came back the whole weekend and had to wait like 10 minutes on Sunday morning were we got the last of the last little buns! Went extra early on our last day and had to get almost everything😍 they have a really delicious variety of flavors so definitely try a few!
Definitely my favourite bread shop in Nagasaki and arguably my favourite shop in Japan, being a resident of Tokyo myself. It’s so good that my mum and I decided to come back the next day as well and we were lucky to have their bread and latte for breakfast on both mornings we woke up to in Nagasaki. I say we were lucky because the shop isn’t open everyday: the business hours are 6.30-10.30am on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We arrived at between 8.30-9am on both days, had to queue on one day and were left with less than 5 varieties to choose from on both days.
Their coffee is equally good. There are 3 standing tables for dine in. The bread would be heated if you dine in and it tastes amazing. The shop owner was also very friendly and very kind. I bought additional bread to take back to Tokyo. I’d make sure to visit the shop next time in Nagasaki. Cant recommend enough if you are in town.

On the next day, there’s a long queue at around 7 and have to wait more than 30 minutes for entering the shop. Now it’s only for take-out and the bread taste the best right away you have them! The coffee is good and it makes perfect match with the bread! Especially recommend earl grey, chocolate, and walnut ones! Actually all the flavors taste great, and be sure to eat them freshly! Be sure to visit this place really early and be prepared for the queue if you want to buy one!
