Stick Boy Bread Company, established in 2001, is a beloved bakery and coffee bar known for its delectable homemade pastries, breads, bagels, and cookies. Situated near Appalachian State University's east campus, the establishment offers day-old bread at discounted prices while ensuring that all other items are freshly made each day. The owners' passion for baking shines through in their commitment to using the finest local ingredients and serving fair-trade organic coffee from a nearby roaster.
This is the most authentic and yummy bakery I’ve seen in the state! They have fresh baked goods all day. I went in the morning and evening to take back a few dozen mixed cookies and pastries to the local Fire Department. We plan to stop one more time on the way out of town to take some home for friends and family. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly while I glared and stared at the case while making choices. The also had cute local made gifts and a great coffee selection. The decor was so cute and perfect looking bread. We didn’t buy bread…. Yet! This will be added to a MUST stop every trip to the Boone/Blowing Rock area!

Today we tried 4 types of cake and 4 types of icing for my friends wedding in July. We loved the lemon cake the best with the raspberry butter cream icing. What a great way to test/try each cake with each icing! Highly recommended ⭐️ I also got an oatmeal cookie that was da bomb! Best oatmeal cookie ever ( and I thought mine were fabulous) nope! Stick boy made these cookies light as lace. Best texture and perfect sweetness ❣️ the lemon tart - amazing too. Basically you can’t go wrong with any choice here folks🤗

The most amazing baked good from breads to pastries to cookies. The bagels are really good. It was worth the trip for the seasonal peach tarts. We also picked up some treats

Super busy on a Saturday but still didn't have to wait long at all. Service was great, helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere. And of course, delicious cookies and breakfast pastries.

Right across the street from Appalachian State. Wife loves the latte and our entire family loves their cookies! Endless options for everyone to enjoy - breads, pastries, even a refrigerated section with salad greens and other take home options. We’ve been coming here for over a decade!

We first had Stick Boy baked goods while staying at the Horton Hotel in Boone. I quickly fell in love! I promised myself that I would find the actual location & visit- I did so this morning. This place is a dream for bread & baked goods lovers. Oh my goodness…..these sweet treats. Becca helped me, and she is the sweetest! She picked out my Old World Sour Dough. The next time we are in Boone, we’ll return to try more items. PS Check out the grab & go! I wish we were local, this would be one of my favorite places to shop! ❤️ Josephine Local Guide

You must stop in if you're driving thru Boone! From coffee to fresh breads, pastries, cinnamon rolls, cakes, cookies, & cheese cakes. We got a sticky bun & asked if they could add their cream cheese frosting. They said absolutely & it was absolutely amazing!!! Great friendly staff, too!

much more than a bread company, stick boy has great soups (love the vegan chili) and pastries as well (sticky buns!!). they also have great coffee variety and some other canned drinks, as well as some fun frozen cookies and scones. prices are reasonable for the portions. a good spot for local foods like granola and honey too!

My daughter and I stopped into Stick Boy Kitchen on a snowy December morning for a bite to eat, and it did not disappoint! We tried a sticky bun and a chocolate croissant, as well as fried egg sandwiches with ham, bacon, and cheese on bagels. Everything was absolutely delicious. The cheddar everything bagel made my ham, gouda, and fried egg sandwich exceptional—just the right combination of flavors. The sticky bun was perfectly sticky and sweet, and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her chocolate croissant. While the food was fantastic, the service was a bit confusing when we first arrived. Being from out of town, we weren’t familiar with the setup. We initially sat down but quickly realized we needed to grab menus ourselves from a sandwich board. After that, things improved—especially thanks to a kind young gentleman who took our order and ensured everything went smoothly. The cozy holiday atmosphere was a nice touch, with college students decorating the space with coffee filter stars, adding a festive and quirky charm. Despite a slightly rocky start, everyone was friendly and helpful, and the quality of the food made it a wonderful experience overall. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! The flavors, cozy vibe, and unique charm of Stick Boy Kitchen make it worth a visit. Just make sure you grab a menu when you walk in!

When I first sat down to write this, my gut said to give it three stars. Why? Well, I wasn’t quite sure to be honest. As I parsed through my thoughts, I decided that in fact it was a four star place, but you need to have the right expectations. We stopped in for lunch, and Stick Boy Kitchen serves hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads, quiche, and of course a large selection of Stick Boy Bakery pastries. They also serve a wide range of smoothies and coffee drinks. I would describe the ambience and offerings as more of a cafe than a restaurant, and that’s where I think my own expectations were misaligned. All that said, we had a good meal with good service! Pros: 1.) Stick Boy baked goods. If you’ve not visited the bakery just down the road before, then you’ll need to sample some of the pastries here. Get whatever looks good to you—it’s all good! Pair it with some Hatchet coffee! 2.) Mains. The sandwiches we had were all quite good. Interesting takes on standard offerings, such as the Kluckin Kop, a twist on the usual grilled chicken sandwich. Their quiche was also excellent. 3.) Service. The service was quite prompt, and staff addressed any questions we had very quickly and comprehensively. Cons: 1.) Sides. I feel like this is a big miss at an otherwise great restaurant. The sides available with our sandwiches were bagged chips, cut fruit, hummus and carrots, or fries. All were okay, but to have such great mains with relatively uninspired sides was a bit of a let down. Overall, a nice spot for a leisurely lunch and coffee.

We came up to visit our son in Boone. When we moved our son into his apartment we stayed at a hotel on King St. that had Stick Boy pastries on their menu—it was love at first bite! Later I googled & found their bread company (taking home some bread & treats). On this overnight trip—I was visiting the plaza to seek out some vintage finds at the thrift shop & stumbled upon this restaurant. Yesterday afternoon I brought the family for lunch and it did not disappoint. I highly suggest looking at their online menu because the line is long because of their popularity. You’ve got to know what you want to order when you get up to the register. I’m happy they had outdoor seating because the indoor accommodations become filled-up fast. The Kluckin Kop was recommended to me & I loved the blend of the provolone, honey mustard, and mayonnaise. I took pics of the boys orders, too. My son enjoyed the cold Chick Pea sandwich. My husband went with breakfast. We also each ordered a baked good. I can’t pass up a sweet. I also love the Hatchet coffee! It’s delicious! I’m glad I tried it. It’s my go-to when I’m visiting Boone. I highly recommend taking a bag or two home. Check out my pics of other merch available. I also got to try the hibiscus lemonade and it was perfect to cool me down on this hot day. I definitely want to come back & try more off the menu. Stick Boy leaves me wanting more. I’m hooked and you will be, too! Happy Eating 🍴 Josephine Local Guide

FIVE STARS for Stick Boy Kitchen in Boone, North Carolina! This cozy spot serves up excellent coffees, smoothies, breakfast plates, soups, sandwiches, baked goods, spreads, cream cheeses, dressings, hummus, and other fresh sides — all made from scratch with quality ingredients. Pastries and breads are baked fresh every day. Open Monday–Saturday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

My girlfriend and I came here for lunch, we were instantly greeted by an amazing cashier named Emma she answered all of our questions with a smile and was super kind throughout us ordering. She brought us our food and drinks and everything was excellent. I got the Kitchen Chicken Biscuit and a Blueberry Matcha Lemonade, my girlfriend got the cool as a cucumber bagel and a Twilight Sparkling lemonade!

Located in Boone, NC, Local Lion is a cozy spot offering delicious coffee and pastries. The name pays homage to a local mountain lion encountered by the owner during a camping trip. The establishment aims to elevate the experience of enjoying coffee, emphasizing its flavors and artistry. With excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere, it's an ideal place to savor quality coffee and delectable treats in Boone.
We love going to the Local Lion whenever we're in the Boone area! We love the Donuts & other goodies & the coffee. It's a beautiful place to have coffee & a light breakfast or a mid day coffee break. ☕️ They have their own (free) parking lot & they have a drive-through. We love to bring our dog & have our coffee & Donuts outside on the lovely covered patio! Awesome place, great staff & service too.

Set out to try as many local Cafe as I can while in the area and Local Lion did not disappoint. Had the Blueverry Jasmine donut and Local Lotus with my Cortado. Because why not? 😎😁 The donut was soool yummy and the Jasmine scent really came through, yet in a sweet suttle way. The lotus was like... Imagine a donut and a cinnamon roll had a baby. Not too overly sweet. Friend staff. Quick service. Lots of seating available. Outside seating area is nice too.

Freshly roasted coffee I mean like you can watch it being roasted and then brewed! Service is great the donuts are tasty the atmosphere is so sweet. I’m praying the Holy Spirit come rest on this place and it be a morning sanctuary for peace. What a great way to start the day Christ & Coffee

I graduated AppState in 2021 and came back for a visit. The Local Lion never disappoints! The staff is always wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. I recommend the Bee Balm, Queen Anne's Lace, and the Turtle coffees. The Maple donuts are awesome, but the Sugar and Cinnamon donuts are the best! Very fluffy and filling! The Local Lion has a very chill atmosphere, inside and out. Completely stress free. With plenty of seating and tables, it's a calm place to work and talk. The mugs are made by an Appalachian State University allumni who graduated in 2016, who was a barista here. Very impressive craftsmanship.

This place was fantastic! Amazing coffee and great donuts. Prices were very reasonable as well. Service was awesome, the folks behind the counter even gave me some hiking recommendations. If you're in Boone, it's tough to beat this coffee spot.

Hatchet Coffee is a beloved local spot in Boone, NC, situated near Center 45 Climbing and Fitness. Initially a small roaster selling their own coffee beans on-site, the shop has expanded to offer an array of Nitro brews and specialty coffee drinks, including seasonal creations. In addition to their famous roasted coffee beans, they now serve a variety of breads and spreads along with favorites like avocado toast.
Hatchet Coffee is one of my favorite spots to grab a great cup of coffee and enjoy some delicious food. On my visit, I ordered a latte, and the barista surprised me by making the latte art into a cute little bear! It was such a fun touch, and the drink itself was absolutely delicious... smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. But Hatchet Coffee is so much more than just great coffee. Their food menu is impressive with plenty of tasty options. I am a big fan of their avocado toast, which is always fresh and flavorful. The focaccia bread is another favorite of mine. They also have amazing fruit tarts and so many other choices that make it hard to pick just one. The atmosphere at Hatchet is really inviting. It’s a great place to come whether you want to study quietly or catch up with friends. The vibe is cozy but lively, with plenty of seating and natural light that makes it easy to settle in for a while. On top of all that, they offer some awesome merchandise and coffee mugs. It’s fun to take a little piece of Hatchet Coffee home with you or find the perfect gift for a coffee lover. I highly recommend checking out Hatchet Coffee if you’re in the area. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or just looking for a great place to eat and hang out, this spot has something for everyone. Becoming a regular there, would highly recommend!
Kathryn P — Google review
Definitely popular. There is only table seating or "bar" type seating. Lots of variety of people hanging out. The matcha was pretty sweet. I was there long enough to have a drip dark roast and was surprised it was pretty bitter.
Sheila N — Google review
From the moment I walked into Hatchet Coffee, I knew I was in for something special—and the Sweet Bee Latte sealed the deal. If you like your lattes with real character (not syrupy sweet), this just might be your new favorite. Hatchet Coffee is warm, inviting, and stylish without being pretentious. It’s the kind of place you can linger—great lighting, ample indoor and outdoor seating, and a friendly, welcoming staff. Not to mention the food—the breakfast burrito is banging! I still can’t believe it’s not made with real meat. Lastly, every time I’m in the area, I have to grab a bag of their Blue Ridge Blend—a smooth, dark roast that never disappoints.
Shannon B — Google review
Very cute, very hip, very happening cafe off the main drag. Lots of space to sit and socialize or get some work done. Coffee and breakfast were absolutely delicious!
Amanda C — Google review
Awesome coffee shop! I came here originally before climbing at C45 right next door, but the line was so long I decided to stop by on my way out of town instead. I had an iced coffee and orange cranberry scone. I sat down and read for a bit while enjoying the drink and food. It's so light and vibrant in here, they also have a good small merch section with local artists/vendors up front that's fun to peruse. I will absolutely return here either before or after climbing (just depends on if the line is out the door)!
Dee B — Google review
Loved the vibes! Highly recommend the Tea time in Tokyo. It was nicely sweet with a hint of orange scent.
Sandra P — Google review
I adore Hatchet! Such a cute spot and the drinks are always great. I always stop by when I'm in town to try new flavors. I have enjoyed their matcha in the past and recently really liked their honey bee latte. Would recommend the avocado toast, very flavorful and they do not skimp on the avocado. The people there are always super nice and provide good recommendations. They also have a lot of spacious seating and cute merch, as well as products from other small businesses. Definitely worth a visit!
Lynne C — Google review
I don't get to visit Boone very often, but when I do, I 100% visit Hatchet Coffee every morning. After one visit, you can't help it - they have a nitro coffee with chocolate milk (I know it sounds odd) which is bar none the best thing I have ever put in my mouth, ever. They also have the best seasonal drinks I've ever had - I skipped Pumpkin Spice and went for a hot honey mocha (a little 8 oz cup) and it absolutely blew my mind. Also, the food is incredible - super fresh bread from a local bakery, amazing pastries (seriously - the pumpkin loaf and the avocado toast are absolutely TOP TIER) and most importantly, STUNNINGLY good coffee. I promise I'm not over selling it! Also, for what it's worth, the staff are super awesome. I tend to be a little chatty and they've always been super kind and pleasant (even early in the morning!) They also have some super cool shop items, local honey, etc. to pick up. The vibe is super chill and comfy with a modern/farm house blend aesthetic. If you are a student and you want an amazing $3.50 americano or a working professional in need of a little oomph in the morning, do NOT sleep on this place. Seriously one of my favorite spots in the world!

Coyote Kitchen & Lost Province Taproom is a vibrant restaurant known for its eco-conscious Southwest and Caribbean soul food menu. Located in Boone, North Carolina, this colorful establishment offers a fusion of Latin and Caribbean flavors with options for vegans, vegetarians, and those with special dietary needs. The menu features favorites like burritos, tacos, chicken sandwiches, and burgers with meatless twists using tofu and tempeh as protein options.
Lovely establishment. I ordered the pineapple burger and it was great! The burger itself was alright but all the toppings were what made me enjoy it so much. The sweet potato fries were tasty, seasoned nicely. The bowls and boats looked delicious, I’d love to come back and try them. The triple chocolate cake was delicious, i didn’t expect a vegan dessert to taste so good but I was very pleased with it. They are very accommodating to food restrictions, most if not all the menu items were vegan or gluten free. Menu is long, plenty of options to choose from. Staff was very kind and the space was cute and clean. Would come back!

Large flavorful menu with something for everyone! Although most items are a bit pricy, they are nutritious and very filling. I got the marley burrito, and for $15 I got a huge burrito and chips and salsa. The atmosphere is suitable for large gatherings, and the outside eating area is shaded and there are fans! Also this place is suitable for those who are Gluten Free.
Daisy T — Google review
This place came highly recommended so I am sure that many people have had great experiences but I felt the need to share ours. We haven’t had this bad of a dining experience in a very long time. First off it was about a 35 minute wait on a Saturday, not horrible. But when we were sat we were only handed one menu for the four of us. I had to look up the kids menu and drinks on my phone since they weren’t included on the one menu. It took another 15 minutes for the server to come over. He said sorry, and obviously we were ready to put in our entire order including an appetizer so we did. He delivered drinks and we never saw him again. Another waitress delivered our food before our appetizer. Guy came back, apologized for the wait and we had to tell him that we never got our app. He then went to the back and came out 10-15 mins later with them. First of all, how long do nachos take to put together? At that point we were done eating. After we were finished we sat around for at least ten minutes without seeing him again trying to pay the bill and leave. Just and all around horrible experience. We also sat in the back area which is cut off from the main bar and dining area, I wouldn’t do that again. The food wasn’t bad, we all enjoyed ours. It was the service.
Kyle S — Google review
Service was good, unusual menu items, colorful, tons of gluten free options, some items we loved, like the wings and coyote pups, others were ok like the burger had a cold gf bun and patty wasn't very warm, tacos were good. We would try it again. Didnt try the cake but they had a few gluten free cakes to try. Thanks!
Rachel M — Google review
Loved the plantain chips. I haven’t had them fried like that before. The shrimp in the grilled shrimp plate were cooked well, but needed more seasoning. The slaw was good and spicy. The coconut rice was sweet and complimented the slaw well. The sautéed veggies weren’t very good. The black beans were standard.
Olivia L — Google review
The food at Coyote Kitchen is flavorful, creative, and well-balanced—perfectly blending Southwest and Caribbean influences. Great options for gluten-free, vegan, and allergy-friendly diets. A must-try in Boone!
Ivy C — Google review
Took my daughter here for dinner. She has Celiac and they were extremely safe and she liked the food. Service wasn't great. We had to wait to be seated, which was no problem. But we are seated around 6:50pm, ordered drinks/ appetizer. An hour or more later the waiter came to take our food order. Other people that came after us were being taken care of before us. I'm pretty sure our waiter forgot about us. Would've been nice to get a discount or free drink since we were there for over 2 hours and it wasn't that crowded.
Kimberly C — Google review
I love Coyote Kitchen because it is one of the very few restaurants I can eat at in Boone because I have celiac. The food is incredible and when I dine in, they are very accommodating to my allergen concerns. And their cocktails are always amazing! However, anytime I’ve tried to place a to-go order, the online ordering isn’t available AND the phone is off the hook when I try to call. This has happened at least four times in the past few months. It’s a first world complaint and I know that, but it’s really discouraging and frustrating as a local because I don’t have other options for food. I am so thankful for a restaurant that can accommodate my dietary needs and I want to give them my business, so my hope in leaving this review is that the owners or GMs will see this and maybe take action to improve the to-go service.

Breakfast restaurant
American restaurant
Located in Boone, NC, Sunrise Grill is a family-run restaurant that offers classic American breakfast and lunch options at reasonable prices. Known for their various types of Eggs Benedict, including traditional, southern, and the unique Flankenstein with goat cheese and grilled flank steak, this joint is a local favorite. Despite being busy at times, the excellent food and friendly service make it worth the wait.
The Sunrise Grill is absolutely stellar!! From the fresh baked goods from Stick Boy to everything tasting homemade, it's a great spot to check out. The breakfast croissant was literally to die for, and the oatmeal was so delicious. My only issue was the latte was very acidic and syrupy, so I probably wouldn't recommend the coffee bar unfortunately. But, aside from that, if you are in Boone, I would absolutely recommend you give this place a try!
Alex — Google review
The restaurant is smallish and, on the weekend, there could be a wait. They have a great cell phone connected wait system. Service was great. Our server was great, the food came out hot and perfectly cooked. Would very much recommend for breakfast and lunch. Mind the operating hours. They are open for breakfast and early lunch only. They close at two on the weekend.

Amazing breakfast place to explore a lot of menu options in omelettes, pancakes, quiche and croissant. They have great matcha and coffee options available here I had the Tumeric ginger tea with honey and matcha latte We have veggie omlette, santé fe and custom omlette cheese Lowering the stars as the women’s washroom was bummed completely !’

Big pros - Good food, very attentive server, plenty of parking and decent atmosphere Some cons - Sausage was undercooked and the wait for both being seated and getting the food was a bit excessive.
Saikot C — Google review
The sunrise grill is a must hit breakfast spot any time you’re in town. I always love the Florentine benedict & my husband tries a different hearty meal every time. They have wonderful coffee. Since there’s almost always a little wait (the good food is well worth it), get yourself a fresh made cup of coffee & check out the art on the walls.
Sylvia S — Google review
We both got the John Wayne tortilla plates, so much food but delicious! We went on a Thursday morning and there was no wait but it is a very popular spot, when we tried to go back Sunday morning on the way out of town it was a 35-45 minute wait for 2 people.
Megan O — Google review
Best breakfast in all of Boone. We go here every time we visit. There is something for everyone on the menu and the food is always delicious. I’m only giving three stars for the atmosphere this time because we were seated next to a very grumpy couple that complained about our three-year-old and was actually extremely well behaved. I think the elderly couple is used to eating in complete silence and we are very happy, lively family. There are always other children in the restaurant that you can hear and otherwise the restaurant is very family friendly.

Great food for brunch. Very filling size portions. I recommend the biscuit and sausage gravy was very tasteful.

Neat place, great beer, great vibes. The brewery sits on the side of the mountain. Has a nice outdoor area. Also has amphitheater style seating with lots of room for the family.

Had a super great time. Beers were tasty. Food was more delicious than we expected. Compliments are to the chef! Atmosphere was fun and they had live music. Will definitely go back.
Joel W — Google review
It was a sunny Friday afternoon. We were driving through on our way to Boone. Had to make a pitstop here. Honestly one of the coolest breweries I’ve been to. Huge parking lot, 2 big setups. A primary one with ton of indoor and outdoor seating, then another area with a big stage, Cornhole, several picnic tables, lawn chairs. Great spot for kids and dogs to move around. The beer was solid and food was great (elevated bar food). They even had a nice reggae band playing. Cool spot, highly recommend
Robin M — Google review
Loved the atmosphere here! Very family and pet friendly spot. Good drink selection and a lot of different food options. Our waiter was also super cool and helpful. I’m also not a huge fan of loud atmospheres where the music is too loud and you can’t even have a conversation but this was a perfect environment!
Connor S — Google review
Food was good and so was the beer. Servers were good and have 2 floors of seating when you are going when it's colder. Worth the stop if you are in Boone, NC
B K — Google review
We tried the East Boone Pils, Lavender Lemonade, Soft Pretzel, Burrata Salad, and Chicken Tenders. The drinks were good and the food really exceeded expectations! The atmosphere was lively and there was plenty of seating across indoor, outdoor covered, and outdoor uncovered options. There was live music playing in a park closer to the parking lot, but I assume that’s part of the brewery, it sounded great! The main parking lot was full on a Friday evening, but there is designated overflow parking across the street.
Kaylin E — Google review
Love this brewery! The atmosphere is beautiful and the service is top notch. My husband got a few Amber beers and I got the cranberry orange mocktail which was awesome! We split the fried Brussel sprouts, pretzel with beer cheese, and the veggie flatbread. It stays pretty busy here but the servers do a great job of managing their tables and checking in with you while you are there.

Had some really good food and brews with some fun trivia at Booneshine. I would highly recommend this place and Karter did a great job of making recommendations on the food menu.

Blue Deer on King is a charming bakery located at 516 W King St, Boone, NC. They offer a variety of delectable treats such as homemade cookies that can be paired with locally sourced ice cream to create customized ice cream sandwiches. The cozy atmosphere and great upstairs seating area make it a perfect spot to enjoy some coffee, baked goods, and delightful desserts.
What a great place! We went to the King Street location. The person that helped us was very chill and nice. They also had some great deer themed art. My favorite is below. We will def be back!!

Thank you Amelia and Sage! Being there on a major holiday with such a great energy and enthusiastic hospitality. The experience was so great I had to leave a review. Thank you again for the cookies and cream ice cream sandwich and the good vibes.

I have visited both blue deer in Blowing Rock & now this one on King in Boone. At this location, Luc was at the register and Lindsay made my vanilla shake with crumbled chocolate chip. She took the time to get it right. Both employees were nice, too! While I love their ice cream which is sourced from Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC—I did ask where they get the baked goods & it’s actually US Goods, from my understanding. I would love for them to source local cookies & baked goods to use in their ice creams. It would elevate the experience! I did find out the bagels are local, that’s a plus for me! BTW, our son enjoys their coffee and the upper levels to occasionally get his projects and reading done for App State. I do highly recommend Blue Deer! If you can, go up and sit way up high and get the views! Happy Exploring 📍

Another nice coffee shop. I stopped here on the way out of Boone for a coffee for the road. I ordered an iced dreamsicle (orange) latte. It was definitely interesting, probably not my favorite but not bad by any means. A bit steep ($7) after tip, but I guess you can't really even get a hot drip anywhere for less than $4 so I can't complain too much! The shop itself is really clean and cozy, there is an upstairs area too where I sat for a bit while enjoying the first few sips and watching passersby on the main street below., I think next time I would try a different flavor and definitely get a cookie and/or ice cream.
Dee B — Google review
Sweet little shop offering ice cream and other treats. We were told that the delicious ice cream we were served is from Homeland Creamery out of Greensboro.

I didn't have any, but my kids loved the cookie ice cream sandwiches, especially because they could create their own combinations. The rooftop chairs and the loft were nice surprises.

It's a good thing I don't work here- I'd weigh 500 Lbs. The ice cream sandwiches are yummy and look forward to going back in the Fall when they add some new flavors to the mix. Nice folks and a cute shop.

Nestled on Faculty Street, Appalachia Cookie Company is a beloved spot in Boone, known for its delectable array of cookies baked from scratch using fresh ingredients. Founded by former App State student David Holloman in 2012, this cozy bakery offers an assortment of flavors ranging from classic chocolate chip to unique options like cheesecake and maple bacon bourbon. The establishment has garnered widespread acclaim and even earned a spot on Paula Deen's list of Top 10 Cookies in America.
We have been coming here since our first born went to college. They have moved to a new bigger and updated location. They now offer canned & bottled drinks as well as freshly made hot & cold specialty coffees. The main attraction is their soft delicious cookies. If you’re getting a dozen then be prepared to wait 20 minutes…..it is so worth it! The cookies are made fresh in house and they come in various flavors. Our favorites are the Cheesecake & Snickerdoodle. The new place is cozy and warm with indoor and outdoor seating. It is very inviting and relaxing. Since school is not I. Session it was not terribly busy. Staff is super friendly and attentive.

Dry, crumbled frozen cookies wrapped in a plastic bag. Not edible, expired, gross. Maybe where they are naked they are good, but obviously they Re shipping frozen crap to Chicago and distribution thru doordash.
Rodney Z — Google review
We ordered cookies through DoorDash for the first time. Appalachia Cookie Co was very quick! The cookies came very well packaged and the presentation of the cookies was super aesthetically pleasing. I’m sure the freshness from in store would’ve been a different experience, but our personal experience is that the cookies were kind of stale…even after heating. We were pretty sad. Other than that, a good experience.
Atasia B — Google review
Absolutely love App Cookie Co! I highly recommend the blueberry white chocolate oatmeal!! My favorite! You really can't go wrong with any flavor though. Plenty of parking and seating options while you wait. Or you could always enjoy them there if you want.
Sadie F — Google review
First time visit July 3rd. 2025. Excellent cookies. Huge variety. We came by July 19, 2025 again to get more. You can order ahead, yet we were ok with the 20 min wait as they are baked fresh. I'd recommend.
Skipper P — Google review
I purchased the assorted half dozen cookie box. Each cookie is baked to order, so they come fresh out of the oven! The cookies are quite large and considering how decadent they are, a box of 6 could feed 4-6 people!

I stopped by Appalachian Cookie Company while visiting Boone the other week. I decided to try their cotton candy cookie! It was the best decision ever! They baked it fresh for me in just 20 minutes, and when it arrived, I paired it with a cold glass of milk. Absolute heaven. Soft, gooey, and perfectly sweet without being overpowering. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and you can tell they truly care about quality.

No DONUT HOLES...WHAT? Krispy Kreme of Boone needs to step up their donut game. The "lobby" is NOT open to customers. Drive thru ONLY! Time to open up your business to the public. The drive thru was s l o w. The employee didn't even know what they did with the center of the donuts when asked. 😉 Enjoy!
Evan G — Google review
THE SIGN IS A LIE!!! Donuts were reheated, NOT FRESH. I had never eaten a donut before one of my friends convinced me to go to the Krispy Kreme in Schaumburg, IL. That fateful night in the fall of 2004 changed my life forever. I was 22 years old and had just been introduced to the love of my life: a hot, fresh, plump, succulent, Krispy Kreme original. Fast forward 15 years, I try to eat healthy but there's no fighting the lure of that Hot-Fresh-Now sign. Tonight, while driving my wife and three young children through winding roads toward our vacation destination in Blowing Rock, NC, we pass by a familiar sign and we have to turn back. We were all excited for the Krispy Kreme experience but we were not prepared for the deception that lay in wait for us all. We ordered a dozen assorted donuts (the kids just HAD to have the spring specials) upon taking that first bite I knew something was amiss. I was expecting it to be soft, sweet and crispy. I was expecting it to melt in my mouth. Instead, it was chewy and hard and nothing like a normal Krispy Kreme. My wife asked if they were reheated and the girl at the counter replied that they were. "But what about the HOT NOW sign? Doesn't that mean you just made them?", my wife said inquisitively. "Well, they're hot", was the only reply. This isn't only deceptive, it's damaging to the brand. How can we trust anything, if even Krispy Kreme will lie to save a buck.
Anthony C — Google review
Stopped at this Krispy Kreme, September 28, 2021 in Boone NC as I had been here a year ago. Got to the front door found it to be locked.... only the drive thru was open. A little strange that all the other restaurants, ice cream shops, etc were open for inside dining or carryout but I'm beginning to see this type of tren often. So I really wanted to try the newly advertised cinnamon roll they currently were selling and reluctantly went to the drive thru. Got my order and went to a nearby park to try the cinnamon roll but was a little disappointed as it didn't look much at all the way the photo on the drive thru listing board. Another reason I don't care for drive thru. Also they provided no napkins however the person working the drive thru was very nice. I did eat the cinnamon roll and a regular glazed donut which were delicious. My main point here is most people going to pick out bakery items like to see or pick out the items rather than drive thru. Plus they may even buy more.... better for business..🤔
Donald B — Google review
went to krispy kreme after a stressful class, ordered half a dozen glazed doughnuts. lady looks at me dead in the eyes and says “you had the 6 glazed right?” now tell me why i open the box and it looks like this
Reece P — Google review
So disappointed in this Krispy Kreme. We've tried them 6 times in the past 3 years. Today's experience has smaller donuts which is no surprise. My donut had next to nothing on the creme filling and my husband's red velvet cake donut also lacked in resembling their pic with a donut topped with icing. Not worth $2.25 a piece. I understand locations are franchised and this particular location is failing to measure up to the Krisy Kreme reputation.
Melissa L — Google review
I've always been given delicious fresh donuts every time I've come through here, never once an old or stale donut. In addition to this, their service is BLINDINGLY quick in my experience. I got 2 dozen donuts from a drive through and was given them with zero delay. Impressive! What inspired me to leave a review is just how kind and chipper the employees are here. They always seem very eager to serve you and will cheer you up. It is worth mentioning that the inside of the shop is closed and the drive thru ONLY is open, but I doubt this is due to choice. Lots of places are understaffed and I'm guessing by the "help wanted" signs present in the drive thru windows that this place is too. For a business working during these times, between the pandemic and the "great resignation" as many are calling it, they are doing a wonderful job in my opinion.
John D — Google review
Great place! We went there because if you are in elementary school(and maybe high school) and you bring your report card, they will give each child one donut for EVERY 'A' that you have. We brought our two young sisters and they walked out with half a dozen donuts EACH. Pretty cool!(the limit per person for doing this is 6 donuts). They usually have hot and fresh glazed donuts, which are AMAZING! And for kids, they have classic paper donut-maker little hats you can wear.

While visiting Boone, we decided to stop and check this place out! This place place is totally cool and unique! Books, arcades and donuts. A little something for everyone! I absolutely love this place!! The donuts are huge and phenomenal. My personal favorite is the maple (left), whereas my roommate really enjoyed the Frosted Flakes donut (right). We also had lattes which were very good!! We were able to speak to the owners who are super incredibly sweet. The overall vibe is very inviting and laid back. A perfect place for studying, a date, for families, etc. I will be coming back to this beautiful family owned small business!!

The new arcade theme is interesting. The workers are always very friendly, coffee is always good, and the donuts are always excellent. I continue to come back when I'm in town because my aunt and I love the donuts.

Oops! I forgot to take a photo of the maple doughnut because it was so good - I just ate it without thinking. This place is so welcoming and cozy. Good place to study and hang out. So many fun options.

Great donuts. Not a ton of variety, but the quality is there. I had a vanilla with sprinkles (because I'm a child) and chocolate and strawberry glaze. Both were delicious. Good and soft. The vanilla icing was perfect, and the chocolate icing with strawberry drizzle was a nice touch. Definitely recommend the if you're sweet tooth is demanding some attention.

Super chill on a Thursday morning at 9. Minimal types/ flavors of donuts. Apple fritters looked like a fail today as well as the glazed unless it soaked into the donut already. Big fluffy yeast donuts decently tasty. Coffee was good, staff was nice.

Awesome, inviting space & nicely decorated. You feel very much at home. You can get your donuts, even cupcakes & ice cream & kick back to enjoy some relaxation on the sofa, neatly tucked into the corner. I love how they lay out checkers and other fun things to do! We met Sophie, she was such a nice girl, she took our order. I had the Chocolate glazed donut & it was just P E R F E C T! My husband got a coffee, can’t have treats without it! We loved this place! Will be back the next time we are in Boone. We now have a Mountaineer so it’ll be more often a :-)

I got a chai with oatmilk and it was absolutely delicious and the donuts were huge and so good. The girl who was working at the time we came in was so sweet and kind to us and the other customers. Auntie Anne's is a beloved global chain known for its delightful array of sweet and savory soft pretzels, each crafted to perfection. Whether you're in the mood for a classic flavor or something more adventurous, Auntie Anne's offers an enticing selection of toppings and dips that elevate your snacking experience. One standout option includes mini bites featuring Nathan’s Famous hot dogs wrapped in their signature fresh-baked pretzel dough, topped with pepperoni slices and a delicious three-cheese blend.
Emma was great she help me with my promo that I was having difficulty pulling up on my phone. Great employee.
Don Q — Google review
Ordered two regular pretzels online and scheduled my pick up for a half-hour later. When I arrived at the appointed time, I was advised by the employee on duty (the only employee in the store) that she was backed up on orders and mine would "take some time" before it was ready. Other customers in the store said they had been waiting for more than 20 minutes and there was a car in the drive-thru waiting as well. This sole employee was working very hard in the kitchen preparing orders while also working the counter and drive-thru. The store was clearly understaffed which is the same experience I've had previously at this location. Very frustrating. The pretzels themselves, once I received them, were delicious. So, kudos to the employee for upholding product quality despite the terrible customer service situation she was put in.
Randy R — Google review
Went in on 11/2 to get pretzels and blue raspberry lemonade only to wait 30 minutes without service. Our order was taken then we watched as people behind us got their food and drinks. The people in front of us also waited over half an hour. Only after both of us called over an associate did they start on our order. Half the cinnamon sugar pretzels didn’t have the coating or were salty and the drink was half foam. Would not stop by again.
Kendal — Google review
came here on my lunch break. Ordered a thing of the pretzel dogs and was told it would be 10-15 minutes. Ended up being late back from lunch… Only one person working is honestly sad. I hope the girl working gets treated fairly because she was trying her best.
Addison W — Google review
They stop baking after 8pm. Which I understand and is fine because pretzels are half off after 8pm! I was pleased to hear. However it was a little stale, glad I didn’t end up paying full price for it. I also got a smoothie. I had the PB banana protein. It just wasn’t very tasty. Maybe other smoothies on the menu are much better. Idk, it was my first time trying anything here.
Byron H — Google review
I need management to tell me why they think it’s okay to have 1 person running the store on free pretzel day. Completely unfair yo the lovely lady who was taking, baking, and completing the orders on her own.
Amya M — Google review
Absolutely delicious pretzels. But the past two times I’ve been to this location I’ve ordered a total of 4 regular pretzels and each one has been so over cooked on the bottom I’ve had to throw almost half of the pretzels away we couldn’t eat them. Just wanted to make it known so the employees here could maybe pay more attention to that issue.
Brandi R — Google review
Went at around 8 pm, no one in line or at the store - took 25 mins to get a smoothie and two pretzels. Asked for the sweet glaze and got what literally tasted like glue, it was completely separated and for sure past its best. I’ve tried to give this location the benefit of the doubt but it has been consistent bad food and service.
