Sazio is a renowned pasta restaurant in Hastings, known for its exceptional food and welcoming staff. The name "Sazio" translates to "full or satisfied" in Italian, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to providing fulfilling dining experiences. The menu features delicious pasta and authentic Italian dishes made with high-quality ingredients and exceptional flavors. Guests can indulge in plates of spaghetti paired with sourdough focaccia, promising a satisfying meal.
AMAZING 😍 came here while visiting from Aus. Everything was delicious. I am gluten free and there was great options including a house made gluten free pasta which was so delicious. Menu items are locally sourced or house made. Beautiful spot, atmosphere and lovely staff. A must visit!
Jayne M — Google review
Food was delicious although the appetizers and mains were a bit underwhelming compared to their broccoli and carrot side dishes, the side dishes for me were the stars of the show. It was hard ordering from their menu because the options aren’t very appetizing to read, especially their dessert menu - majority of it were different coffee flavored desserts.
Wuuki — Google review
AMAZING FOOD. I had the meat option and it was very good. I also had the tiramisu which was absolutely amazing tasted delicious. I went in a group with my friends aged 17-18. The chef and all staff were lovely checked up on us throughout the night. Was very kind and understanding and catered for my dairy free friend.

Amazing! Best pork belly, great service and good location. Loved it!

Beautiful meal. We both had the Tagliatelle Lamb Ragu. So tasty! Our waitress (sorry, can't remember name but French girl) was super helpful and friendly which really added to the dining experience. Would eat here again.
Suzanne H — Google review
Absolutely amazing. The whole team are focused on ensuring you enjoy your experience! Gluten and dairy free easily catered for and well communicated - they make their own GF pasta and it is great! Atmosphere is great, with the kitchen on display and very helpful and friendly staff. The food is fantastic - I took two friends from Wellington and they were blown away with the tastes and textures of the food. Great location to move on to local bars and venues after dinner too! Thanks guys, we will be back!
Pieter S — Google review
Lovely service, simple but nice environment and more importantly, the pasta is amazing. I had the prawn one with chilli butter. Pasta itself got good texture which you can tell when you start chewing and the prawn was amazingly well seasoned. Will come back to explore more of the menu. Thanks for the service again guys!
Brooke W — Google review
The food was superb. We didn't need to order the extra serving of Foccacia bread but it was so good we just had to! The pasta was great. I had the special Kale Pesto. My husband loved the Raghu, and the market fish ( Snapper) was perfectly cooked (according the chef who dined with us). The sides of Brocolli and Carrots were excellent in themselves. The Tiramisu! Wow. Next time I will leave room for one of these. We will be back, an excellent Italian meal.

Cafe
Hawthorne Coffee Roastery & Espresso Bar, located in Havelock North, has been serving excellent coffee since 1999. The onsite roastery produces top-quality beans that are used by many other cafes in the area. In addition to their masterfully crafted coffee, they also offer a selection of cafe food and have a convenient takeaway window for those on the go. The staff is known for their friendly and helpful service, making it a delightful spot to enjoy great coffee and delicious food.
Excellent service and amazing coffee. The place has such a good vibe relaxed, welcoming, and full of positive energy. Definitely one of my top spots. Highly recommended!
Marcela B — Google review
Very good coffee and they give this lovely marshmallow with coffee. Highly recommended place to sit and have a good time. I enjoyed their date scone too. I ate the scone by adding fresh strawberry on top which was like an icing on cake. Yumm

Beautiful coffee and service, well worth the stop in and say hello
Chris B — Google review
We stayed in the area for a week and found this on day two. The best coffee hands down in the Hawkes Bay Area - and one of the best we’ve had in NZ. We went 5 times and it was consistently banging each time. Dog friendly, good service, lovely staff and amazing coffee. I’ve had a string of average oat milk flat whites and here they were so good. Pastries also delicious! We rate this as top notch!
Amber L — Google review
I regularly use Hawthornes for casual and professional meetings. Their coffee is excellent, their food is solid (though limited), the service is great, and the outdoor space on a sunny day is hard to beat. Being across the road from the Village Green is also a big plus.
Cameron J — Google review
Best coffee in Hawkes Bay! It was a busy Saturday morning when we went but the coffee came quick and was superb! So good that I had to buy beans for Auckland and hunted them down on Sunday at the Farmers Market!

Nestled in the heart of the community, John's Bakery & Cafe is a delightful spot that has garnered attention for its diverse offerings. This award-winning establishment specializes in more than just freshly baked bread; it also provides catering services and an enticing breakfast and light meals menu. Guests can indulge in delicious pies and sandwiches while savoring expertly brewed coffee. Hasting's best kept secret. Super comfortable and relaxed setting. Great food. Service with a smile always.
Tony S — Google review
Just about the worst egg n bacon pie ever. Everything but. If I'd wanted a vegetable pie that's what I'd have got. The girl serving wasn't exactly the most pleasant either. Quite the snotty attitude.
Ged — Google review
I haven't been here for a while and I resent paying $6 for a regular coffee but I sense John's Bakery is trying really hard to balance their prices with operational cost so I respect that. There's a great range of appetising cabinet and menu food and the cake size was generous and made with quality ingredients. I also enjoyed a bacon panini which was served hot (and quickly) with a small salad. I'll be back and will recommend to others.
Susan M — Google review
Nice large open spaced Cafe with seating inside and out. Friendly fast service. I liked the vegetarian sandwich except for the balance of filling to bread, the slices were very thick. I didn't have any luck with the custard square. I found the pastry not crisp and the custard a very mild flavor. I'll try something else next time.
Linda — Google review
The worst steak pie I've ever had. The pastry was tough and so seemed like it had been in the pie warmer for a day ir more. And it was far too hot to eat comfortably. I used to like the pies here but I'll be looking for a better bakery in Hastings now.
Gordon G — Google review
This cafe is welcoming with lots of space and a great selection. Their afghan cookies are very very good which is rare and their bacon and eggs are tasty, iv added hash browns/bacon in the past and was happy with the portion I got for the additional cost. The pancakes are kind of mushy inside so I don't recommend them and unfortunately the poached eggs are sometimes abit over-cooked. So all and all I do recommend people come here if they want a fast, tasty meal with pleasant service.
Natasha S — Google review
Whats left of a Big Breakfast…. Service, pot of Tea and breakfast was great….. and didnt know what eggs over easy was but the lady at the front of house asked and they were wonderful. Looks like the new Breakfast spot when in the HB thanks for a great start to my day

Funbuns is a trendy spot in Hastings that's all about bao buns, those delightful Chinese fluffy steamed buns. The menu features a fusion of Asian street food and local Hawke's Bay produce, offering options like Fennel Lime Pork bao and Vegan Classic Bun with spiced tofu, pickled cucumber, hoisin ketchup, peanuts, and coriander. In addition to the delicious buns, they also serve Korean fried chicken and dumplings.
This was an awesome place to dine at. We were given a free dish of deep fried Bao buns complimentary of the kitchen because we booked a reservation beforehand ,which was delicious. All the food we got tasted so good and was perfectly cooked. The staff were really friendly. There was no one else in the restaurant when we were there so it was nice and quiet dining which was enjoyable.

A huge friendly smile greeted us as we walked in the door. Cocktail was made especially for Miss 11 to suit her mood for the night 🙄... The pork bites with cheesy corn and Korean BBQ sauce was to DIE for

Bakery
Ya Bon French Baker in Hastings is a popular spot known for its delectable pastries and perfectly brewed coffee. While the bakery doesn't have a fixed menu, visitors can choose from a variety of options such as battered or crumbed fish with golden fries from nearby restaurants. The bakery's freshly baked items tend to sell out quickly, usually by around 11:00 am, so it's recommended to visit for breakfast.
Their coffee is one of the best in Hastings. And, their almond croissants are 10/10
Marwati K — Google review
We normally love having pastries and great coffee there and a fresh baguette to take home. However today the salmon sandwich was everything but a salmon sandwich. Pic attached. Butter, lettuce, literally two capers, a drop of crème Fraiche and the tiniest of slivers of smoked salmon. I hope they were having an off day, the danish was a bit dense too. If this is a new standard of sandwich I’d rather just spend money on delicious baguette and coffee!
Katia B — Google review
Went in yesterday, so hungry but unfortunately there were 3 flies in the sandwich cabinet 🥵 1 was crawling on a sandwich. Get some fly fans! Our friend got a lovely coffee. I left with nothing
Melissa M — Google review
I have visited here twice, on Friday 7 February and the week before. The pastries are quite good but a little soggy for what they are, tried a bit of the almond croissant from Hawthorne on Saturday 22 March when I was with my parents and thought the same thing, they agreed. The bakery is a cool setting though, you get to watch the bakers making the products. The coffee by Firsthand Coffee was great. The baguette was pretty good too.
Joseph M — Google review
Went there for a late afternoon coffee and there wasn’t much left by way of bakery goods. However the one praline cream pastry we had was absolutely delicious. And the coffee was spot on for someone who’s fussy with their coffee. Apparently most freshly baked items are gone by about 11:00 am so next time we’ll do breakfast here. Not much by way of seating but there’s a nice outdoor area as well.
Fab N — Google review
Absolutely disgusting what I found in their restaurant a rat lurking around contaminating the place DO NOT EAT THEIR FOOD! After seeing this I wanted to puke.
Kobie B — Google review
That day there were only five ciabata loaves left; we were rather late in the morning. Unfortunately they were every pale-looking and despite having some on the day and the day following it didn't live up to their usual standard. Have to go much earlier next time so we can get the super sourdough loaf.

I found the food to be very well priced and tasty. there was a great selection of kiwi favs. so much to choose from! the shop itself is very basic in its appointments, but it's clean and tidy. the availability of tomato sauce, sugar and salt is great. The kumera chips were fantastic. my 2 gripes: cutlery was poorly washed and the coffee way too strong and bitter. all said, I'll be going back there some time. the well priced food with its big portions and the great selection are just too tempting! oh, and there is quite a nice public toilet within 100 metres of the shop in King Street

We went here for lunch yesterday, should have walked out. The worker was on the phone, did not get off it to serve us. Ordered pot of tea. We had eaten, had to ask where it was, oh I forget. I told him to get off the phone, which he did. All tables inside were not cleared, still there when we left. Worst customer service we have ever had. Where was the boss?

Love this place. Shame it's only opened on weekdays. We had the pear sandwich, pizza of of the day and the banana waffle. All ingredients were fresh and the waffle was so delicious. They even used wild blueberries which is not available where I come from right now (Sydney). Great place for health conscious people. And it's yummy! So glad I found this gem

Having not reviewed for about 5 years, I thought it would be time to update. Oh My Goodness have recently opened for evenings & and is offering something different now. They have a canteen style setup, where it is self-serve style. You take one of their pre made buckwheat pizza bases and build your gluten-free pizza from an array of yummy toppings. The staff will then weigh it, and you will be charged by weight. They have a great selection of salads, a hot broth, desserts, delicious smoothies, and a selection of herbal teas available, too. The atmosphere is inviting and warm. My family and I enjoyed a delicious healthy meal and definitely will be back for more! All the best to OMG for this new food offering.

$7.20 for a pie now from the get go I had my doubt if it could live up to the price tag. The pastry was dry and hard the filling didn’t taste that bad but for the price would expect more maybe if it was fresh it would be nicer. In all honesty would rather drive further for a better deal at any other bakery. Also got a caramel rough slice and that was actually quite good.
Cadell H — Google review
The chicken drumstick was overpriced 4.30 for one. Pie was average, felt like it was there for a while but overpriced 7.20. I ve had way better pies in Auckland for 5.50. The staff were friendly but overall quality n price was below expectation.

Great coffee. Great looking food on offer. But too much food displayed uncovered at spit height. Covid, Flu etc etc all shared so easily. And flies in house.

The a moorish cabinet is straight out of an Otellinghi cookbook. My biggest regret was not being able to try everything! The warm cinnamon scroll went down a treat with my toddler (sorry about all the crumbs afterwards). Will be back again soon

My experience with Long Island Deli is twofold. First, it's a favourite place to go for lunch of mine. Their food is always so fresh, delicious, and if you're looking for something out of the ordinary this is the place to go. Their salads and delicious, and baked goods are beyond compare. I also use them to cater for events. We always get amazing compliments on our catering from them. Kirsty is so easy to work with and accommodating for different budgets and dietary needs.
Jessica A — Google review
My first experience was a chance encounter with the cream cheese savoury muffin along with a coffee - as I left a fresh batch of cheese scones landed on the counter, forcing my return visit. The cheese scone is well priced and even better quality. Soft and fluffy filling with just the right amount of cheese, wrapped in a crisp almost outer shell of golden brown. The display is filled with artistic choices of both sweet and savory, small and substantial, the end product presented perfectly with pops of color and plenty of variety. If in doubt about the clear love that has gone into the process, you can step outside and watch the kitchen from the footpath. The high standards and focus on quality is clear to see, Long Island is an impressive ambassador for the hospitality of Hawkes Bay.

Have just visited this bakery and not one friendly, smiley face was to be seen! Staff came out to serve and they all appeared not to even want to be there!! C'mon ladies!! Nobody wants to be served in that manner. All other customers at the time got the same unwelcome treatment. Wont be back at all.
Wendy J — Google review
Went there to get some pies and coffee. The worst pie we have ever had. All the pies were very salty. Coffees were below average and not to forget the worst customer service by the lady at front. She seriously needs to learn customer service skills and stop being rude to customers. Customers are the ones who pay her bills.
Sujan V — Google review
I think it was a minute past 2pm and told I couldn’t have a coffee as they stop serving at 2pm and had cleaned the coffee machine 10 minutes ago. Obviously before 2pm! Anyway, the pie and pastry I had were excellent and a very good selection to choose from. I like the quirkie art deco these in the seating area, just pity about the coffee which wasn’t a major.

A nice selection of classic kiwi sweet and savory food at passable prices. coffee is not bad. great that they have a toilet for customer use. a fair amount of seating inside including a couple of couches (sofas). some outdoor seating too. staff could be a bit more engaging, but it's a tiring job being on one's feet and interacting with customers al day. go before 11.30am to guarantee a seat and the pick of the best and freshest foods

Clean, tidy, easy parking and friendly service, affordable prices too!. Mince and cheese pies are SUPER TASTY,the pastry is so flackey and filling is to seasoned perfectly. Definitely will be back 😊👍🏼

The pies are the best at this bakery but certain staff need to step up their customer service. One lady in particular is rather disgusting to deal with and I am tired of having to be served by her 😖if it wasn't for the fantastic baking I wouldn't bother going back

Little Frimley Kitchen is a fantastic bakery that offers delicious doughnuts with delightful custard cream fillings. The service provided by the staff is exceptional, earning the bakery a well-deserved 5-star rating. In addition to their remarkable doughnuts, they also serve world-class coffee and scrumptious savoury items such as flaky pastry sausage rolls. The friendly and talented staff create an inviting atmosphere for customers to enjoy their spot-on coffee and delectable food.
Best donut I ever had. Plenty of cream and that cream was really tasty!! size was very generous. Also coffee was good as well. They use All press coffee. For personally I love All press. So I would definitely go back again.

We were just two innocent souls in a campervan, chasing snacks and sun, when we stumbled upon this café. Thought we'd grab a quick bite and be on our merry way. Little did we know… we were about to fall HEAD OVER TOAST in love. Hubby ordered the breakfast brioche expecting something casual. You know, egg, bacon, the usual suspects. What he got was a fluffy, golden, butter-kissed *cloud* sent straight from the brunch gods. The egg was so perfectly cooked it winked at me. The caramelized onion? whispering sweet nothings to my tastebuds. I swear he almost proposed. To the loaf. Not me. We sat there in stunned silence, halfway through chewing, exchanging looks like: *Did we just find our soulmate in brioche form?* The coffee? Smooth enough to make a jazz saxophonist weep. 10/10 would veer off the highway, abandon our itinerary, and possibly the campervan just to eat this brioche again. Honestly considering a tattoo in its honour. Small café, huge flavors, and now the bar is set so high every other breakfast has trust issues. Thanks so much Nicole x

My daughter and I dropped in here today for one of the long cream donuts. Girl was busy texting out back and after a minute came and took my order for the last 2 donuts. Our donuts were very heavy and looked like they were filled with oil. We have had them from here before and they were good but sadly something was really wrong today.

Great food and coffee. We had a doughnut which was world class (real cream, not that mock stuff) and a sausage roll that was full flavored and meaty with flaky pastry. So good will return.

I was shopping around looking for a bakery to do gluten free cakes for a future event and I came across a review for gluten free items at Frimley Bakery. WHAT? No way! I went there like 7 years ago and I could only get a $9 toastie (good but $9 in 2018). Today they have a whole shelf of GF items and there is savoury and sweet. I got a whole spice loaf for $7.50!!!! It is soft and yummmmmm!

Honestly the best doughnuts in town! Love the custard cream fillings 😋 Mmm I am always looking for great little places like these with just darn good great food. Service was amazing too so really a well deserved 5 star! Will have to come back to try the coffee.

The staff are so friendly and talented. Coffee is always spot on and the food is to die for! Recommend this spot to anyone for a local brunch date.

Whatever you did with my flat white today, it's the best coffee I've had in months.
