Bakery
The Earth's Crust Bakery in Castle Douglas is a must-visit for foodies and those in need of picnic supplies or brunch/lunch items. The bakery offers a variety of freshly baked goods made from scratch using organic flour, local eggs, dairy produce, and vegetables. Visitors can expect generously topped focaccias, delicious quiches, cakes, pizza slices, and more. The spacious bakery also features an indoor sitting area and a selection of vegan products along with hot drinks.
Picked up some goodies here for a picnic. The only problem was that the olive & cheese twist we bought looked so delicious, it ended being eaten as soon as we left the shop and didn't make it to the picnic! If I lived locally, definitely a place I would frequently visit.
Elizabeth B — Google review
This bakery is a great addition to Castle Douglas! The staff are friendly and helpful, the place is spacious with an indoor sitting area at the side and the food is awesome. Come early for the freshly baked bread and they do run out pretty quickly too! They also serve delicious quiche, cakes, pizza slices etc with hot and cold drinks. Tried the quiche and plum cake and definite thumbs up. There is also a small area selling items like marmalade, chili jams, etc. Decor of the cafe is a bit quirky.. not quite homely/cosy but it's nice and clean. Definitely worth a visit!
Adrian L — Google review
The mushroom Stilton and broccoli quiche is to die for, absolutely full of all the flavors and taste Staff very helpful and welcoming ☺️ Next time we will be buying more
Edd C — Google review
Popped in last week for the first time and I’m so glad I did, croissants were devine and perfectly buttery. The smell of the place was so warm and homely, can’t wait to come back!
Victoria H — Google review
Such a great place to visit. A wide range of vegan products are on sale here, as well as hot drinks and cakes - the vegan chocolate cake is especially delicious! We were too late to buy any bread - they’d sold out, but did have some frozen loafs on offer. If you’re passing by, you should definitely drop in.
Sean — Google review
Lovely independent bakery. We picked up rolls, sourdough loaf and a huge almond croissant. All were excellent.
Rose B — Google review
Great coffee and best croissant I've had for ages. Castle Douglas Parkrun's best-kept secret 😉

Bakery
The Cornish Bakery offers exceptional coffee that sets a high standard in the world of coffee. The taste, aroma, and presentation are well balanced and impressive. Despite its unassuming appearance, the bakery is underappreciated locally. They offer a great selection of pastries that are both tasty and delicate. It is a must-visit place for anyone looking for delicious treats while shopping at the outlet.
Clan was heading north and stopped off at this outlet for a break and thought we would get some snacks and drinks here. What a lovely choice that was!!! Atmosphere was lovely, with these cool little cubbyholes to sit in. Yet had places outside too so you can enjoy the sun. Service was lovely, ladies were a delight to talk to. But the food and drink, shockingly good! I really want expecting it to be THAT good! Everything had tons of flavor! O and the white hot chocolate got passed around to try by all because it was so unique and tasty. All in all a great place to visit. Enjoy. X
G. “ — Google review
We really enjoyed the scones and the kids loved the cinnamon rolls. The atmosphere is cozy, clean and light. This is a great stop for lunch while shipping.
Roel M — Google review
A bit on the expensive side but comfortable, immaculate and the food is excellent. Great if you have a dog as he/she is welcome inside and out. Toilets are accessible directly from the cafe which is very handy.
Niall U — Google review
Great place for coffee and cakes en route to the northern parts. The scones are delicious and we always get takeaway pasties for the end of the journey. It can get busy but the queueing is worth it. Staff are friendly and take their time to deal with each customer properly. Much better than the other options at Gretna. Recommended.
Lesley W — Google review
Stopped here for breakfast with my wife and 2 young children. We all loved the pastries! Coffee tasted really good but came with no crema 😪. No crema, no good unfortunately! It would of had 5 stars all round if it wasn't for the crema on the coffee. Expensive, but good
Paul B — Google review
Lunch was taken at the Cornish Bakery. The service was quick and efficient. Of course we had to have traditional Cornish pasties. The pasties were extremely tasty. Even the crust was so very tasty. This I find is not always the case. There was a good choice of tea and coffees. We chose a booth which surprisingly cut out the noise from the rest of the cafe. The toilets were very clean which is always a bonus.

R Little Bakers Ltd is a delightful bakery with an impressive array of delectable treats. Their cheese scones, apple danish, and chocolate doughnuts are simply divine. The bread they offer is also of exceptional quality. The staff members are warm and welcoming, providing excellent service to customers. Prices at R Little Bakers Ltd are remarkably reasonable, making it a highly recommended establishment. The ingredients used in their products are top-notch, ensuring great taste and generous portion sizes.
Working in Moffat, I came across this bakery, honestly the best food I've eaten from a sandwich shop/bakery. Excellent choice, everything's fresh daily. Tried lots of different items and cakes over the 4 weeks I was there, couldn't fault a thing. Ham salad in the sub roll is a meal in itself, just see my photos xxx
Marie H — Google review
An absolutely fantastic old school bakery! I adore how traditional it is! Every time I'm in Moffat, I'm requested to bring back some baked good from here, usually an iced bun! Such a pity there's nothing gluten-free, but is fantastic for those that can have gluten!
Em — Google review
This is scotlands best kept secret. Friendly service with a smile and great tasting produce at a fair price! The steak pie is to die for and those french fancies are FANCY!
Jordan H — Google review
Wonderful shop! Popped in as was in Moffat for an overnight stay at the amazing Moffat House Hotel. Friendly, happy staff! Bought some chia bread (wish I had bought more!). It was amazing! 😋Also bought treacle scones which most bakeries don't do now. Delicious! Glad I bought six! 😋. Definitely be back in to stock up next time when visiting Moffat! Xx
Linda R — Google review
The bread and cakes were lovely as was the young lady who served me but I have a deep fear of wasps ever since my mother was attacked by a hive when I was a little girl and I became highly agitated when one came into the shop. I was verging on historical tbh but an older lady in the shop made a very rude remark about me, shaking her head in disgust and walked away! She obviously isn’t affected by them or they are afraid of her! She did look like she’d just swallowed some!
Sonia M — Google review
Great bakery. Highly recommend the sausage rolls. Great value for the cost.
Stephen L — Google review
Lovely little authentic old bakers, so many things to choose from, we bought 1x fruit slice, 1 empire biscuit, 1x shortbread round and 1x glass bottle of maines raspberryade. One of the best empires I’ve had, highly recommend.
Ebony R — Google review
Great little Bakery, huge selection of cakes, it was hard to pick one so I had two! Friendly and patience staff (it did take me a few min to pick). Would definitely stop here again.

Marchbank Bakers, a well-liked establishment during lunchtime, offers a variety of delectable options. Their Scotch pie and sausage roll are packed with flavorful meat. The sandwiches and salads can be customized to order and appear appetizing. Additionally, they provide hot food choices and local pickles. The service is pleasant and efficient, with skilled bakers who offer great assistance. For an affordable price of 3.
No photos of the coffee or cakes as the cakes did not last that long. We popped in for Cake and Coffee whilst out for a walk. The coffee was really nice, and the Cakes were lovely! We had Strawberry Tart and fresh cream and Jam doughnut. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Amazing family Buisness with great service and really nice Cakes.

Breakfast rolls for the win! Really tasty, hot and fresh. Coffee was good too. A stop on the way home and if we’re passing again, we’ll stop again!

Very popular here during lunchtime, I opted for a Scotch pie, and sausage roll, the pie was packed with meat and tasty, sausage roll very good too. The sandwiches and salads are made to order and looked good, some hot food options too. I picked up some local pickle too. Nice service, good bakers!

Lovely , very busy bakers. Loaf was very nice as was the Millionaire shortbread & white chocolate Malteser cake.
J C — Google review
Two pies, (one Scotch, one Macaroni) and an espresso for £3.50!! And great, friendly service (they filled my water bottle for free and with a smile). Much better than the chocolatier next door who, despite having spent £12 in her store, wouldn't let me take a photo.
Gordon C — Google review
No photos sorry! Just had delicious 3x pork sausage filled rolls! Also picked up some chicken salad rolls for lunch- then we have their renown strawberry tarts for afterwards! 🍓 All freshly made! Great friendly service! 😀

Bakery
If you find yourself wandering through the charming town of Kirkcudbright, make sure to stop by Paul Jones Bakery for a delightful afternoon treat. This beloved bakery is known for its incredible selection of pies, including standout options like the steak and haggis pie and the mouthwatering macaroni cheese pie. Visitors rave about their experience, often mentioning how they were drawn in by the enticing queue outside—an unmistakable sign of quality!
Brilliant little bakery which puts Greggs to shame in respect of both quality and price. I only tried the traditional scotch pie as that's what all the school kids were buying for lunch, and it was excellent. I only wish I had bought some of the other flavours on offer!
Graeme P — Google review
No complaints about the food 1 of the best bakery's I know but I remember coming in 2018 and getting a brownie for 70p but know its about double the price which isn't necessarily they're fault but still quite expensive for a brownie
Kaiden G — Google review
Asked for 3 warmed pies (2 chicken and haggis, 1 steak pie) however they were served just with a hint of warmth and the steak pie was undercooked. I was also charged nearly double than the previous year and substantially higher than the listed price. Very disappointed.
James G — Google review
Fantastic pies and cream cakes.
Irene A — Google review
We visited the Paul Jones Bakery at the Easter Weekend in April 2017. Wow! What an amazing bakery - The pies are incredible. We tried a macaroni cheese pie and a chicken tikka pie, but the outright winner was the steak and haggis pie... deeelishus! We had a couple of these! :) I would heartily encourage anyone passing by Kirkcudbright to call in to this bakery and try out their amazing fayre.

Popped in to get a pie because of the reviews on here. Didn't regret it. Went with steak and haggis. Absolutely spot on. One of the best pies I've had.

Honestly the best steak pie I have ever had but then I followed up with a steak and black pudding pie that was sublime. I am so glad I live nowhere near this bakery because I would be tempted to visit every day. Go, get a pie and enjoy!

Brilliant wee cafe, properly Scottish, full of tasty treats. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating to our large group, which included kids aged 9 months to 6 years old. Highlights: pancakes, macaroni pie, cheese & onion slice, shortbread (all made in-house).

First visit here today. Shop is exceptionally clean and bright. Chocolate brownie is one of the best I have ever tasted. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his yum yums. Price was very good for the size of our cakes, apple pie and rolls. Will definitely be a regular customer now. Lady serving us was lovely and friendly. Well worth calling in.

We ordered a simple wedding cake for 20 pax with vanilla sponge, fresh strawberries and cream. Apart from the generous portion sizes (each person got a gigantic slab that could've fed two), everyone was raving about how delicious the cake was. Really appreciate the lovely cake and wonderful customer service from Katrina and the team. Thanks for making our wedding celebrations extra special! Highly recommend Picnic for special occasions and everyday (everything we've ever had was downright scrumptious - the pear and almond tart is my current favorite).

Greggs is a popular bakery chain that specializes in preparing various breads, savory snacks, sandwiches, and sweet treats. It is well-known for its delicious steak bakes and sausage rolls. Located conveniently in Dumfries Town Centre, it is a convenient place to stop off during shopping trips. Great Greggs! Clean tidy. We were served by the manager he was helpful and very friendly with a big smile. Well done

Horrible Mexican chicken pizza that I bought at 5 30 pm that was chilled on places...ie onion on top was chilly and the pizza base was chilled inside, though the chicken pieces were cold but had been cooked I wasn't expecting it to be hot but it was revolting and if I didn't have a train to catch would have taken it back.Greggs are hit and miss and this one(& Gregg's in future) I'll give a miss.

Can't beat a steak bake or sausage roll from Gregg's and it's a very handy place to stop off when shopping in Dumfries Town Centre. Never have to queue for long and prices are reasonable.
Bobbie J — Google review
Got an order from just eat got a roll instead of a baguette ordered a steak bake with it also and it was so cold you would have thought it was leftovers from yesterday absolutely terrible cannot believe this is the standard greggs has in this area.
Daniel M — Google review
Absolutely terrible. Visited with my 7 yr old son today and asked for 2 sausage and bean melts to take away from the grumpy looking woman serving. When they were served, they were cold. When I questioned her she said that they don't keep them hot. I asked why they were serving hot food that wasn't hot. She said yes, they don't do them hot. Against my better judgment I took them anyway but couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. Really horrible when cold. Very unimpressed with the staff and disgusted with the food. I won't go back as there is a really nice friendly bakery only 50 meters away that sells excellent hot and tasty food.
Andrew G — Google review
You couldn't complain about quality, service, staff, hotness or cleanliness. I just love their Stake Bakes, excellent! But I must divulge this little story 3 years ago before my mam passed on- she asked me when down the street to get some scones I popped into Greggs and they informed me that they didn't make scones so what does this tell you? Answer : Greggs is not a bakery but really a ' Fast Food Outlet' draw your own conclusions my friends! This was for the Annan branch only and not Dumfries or Nationwide.

Bakery
Marchbank Bakers is a delightful stop for anyone traveling through Scotland, especially if you're in need of a tasty treat during your journey. Their coronation chicken is creamy and perfectly balanced, making it an absolute must-try. The staff here are known for their quick and friendly service, always ready to assist with a smile. While there have been some minor hiccups with the phone ordering system, the overall experience remains positive.
What a fantastic Bakery. Look no further! Homemade Lorne- excellent breakfast/ all day rolls. Lovely rolls (softies!) themselves! Majority (I think only one not) homemade pies that are fantastic. Great to have a proper Baker's! Also the staff are very helpful and so friendly!
Matthew D — Google review
I didn't think it was possible leaving a cheap bakery disappointed! The food was fine, standard bakery stuff like Greggs or Wilds but the attitude if the staff and hygiene issues meant we'll never return. The old lady serving us was extremely rude and unpolite, one of the most miserable people I've met in Scotland. Muttering as we asked her a couple questions about the food and prices. Me and her both watched a wasp crawl over the three iced fingers in the cabinet. She then asked us what type of iced finger we wanted with our kids meal. I said we don't want any of them, a wasp has been crawling on them, to which she replied 'jesus' under her breath and didn't offer any replacement for the iced bun yet still charged us full price. One of the few times I think replacing an independent bakery with a Greggs would be the best thing!
Benjamin D — Google review
We loved Marchbank Bakers, we popped in here during a 6h drive to the Isle of Whithorn from Wales. At 9am hungry & in need of some Scottish charm, we found it with great food, coffee & lovely friendly helpful service. As soon as we entered their friendly team showed us they had a 3 for 2 deal on & what was included - we bought 2 pack of scot pies, 4 pack of choc brownies & 4 mixed scones. We also bought 2 coffees & a hot choc, they told us they had a deal, hot drink & a roll with 1 choice of a range of options for £2.95! We chose 1 bacon, 1 flat sausage & 1 haggis, the baps were so good. All in all we came away completely charmed by the bakery, arms full of food, happy bellies & very pleased we stopped in. Their coronation chicken is to die for, creamy and not too spicy. The staff are always quick and helpful. Only niggle is sorting a better system to be able to place orders for collection if in a rush - twice I've tried to call and the phone hasn't worked

There have been three transformative events in my life - * When I married my wife * When my son was born * When I first ate a Marchbank custard doughnut I studied in St Andrews and have sought a replacement for the Fisher & Donaldoson venerated fudge doughnut ever since I graduated. I have tried many and all have fallen short... Until I came to Marchbank - the sweetness of the custard, the caramel topping, the pastry... all were divine. Move over F&D, a new doughnut has a place in my heart.

Food is amazing and the staff are so friendly. Whenever we are in castle Douglas we sit into eat and take food home aswell. The food is fresh, tastes good and not at all greasy. Sausage rolls and scotch pies are our family favourite. Our friends love it when we have came for the day because we always take cake home. A must visit place for everyone including families.

Had a coffee and tea with a Chelsea bun that we shared. Very enjoyable, even bought a cake to take away. Both the cafe and the shop were very busy which is always a good sign. Couldn't believe how reasonable the price was. Will certainly visit again.
