Ethiopian restaurant
Addis in Dar is a well-established family-owned Ethiopian restaurant located on Kisutu Street in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The restaurant offers a communal dining experience where guests can enjoy traditional Ethiopian cuisine, eating with their hands using injera bread to scoop up delicious stews and sauces. The cozy outdoor terrace overlooks a serene garden, providing a tranquil setting for diners.
Very Unique experience at Addis in Dar. The food is yummy & tasty, the coffee as well was soo good. The Ethopian wine they had Tej, it was a sweet wine. Atleast enjoyed the experience & the surrounding.
Hiren P — Google review
Hi there, If you looking for a romantic date with girl, this is the place. The food just authentic, you eat with your hands though so no rubbing eyes after... Service was a bit slow but the rest of the ambiance made you feel so relaxed that you actually only noticed when you checked the time. I definitely will go back. Cheers
Richard L — Google review
The staff here is 100% pleasant and professional. Food is great authentic Ethiopian food. Excellent experience all over. A bit too pricey for Dar but it's worth every bite.
Afri ( — Google review
Nice and cosy place with good service. It was our first time trying Ethiopian food, good experience. However, the portions were quite small, and unfortunately, it felt a bit pricey for the quantity
Asma — Google review
One of the finest restaurants in Dar es Salaam. The whole experience of sharing food in a traditional Ethiopian platter, the nice first floor veranda, the Tanzanian night sky, the furniture and the music add to a unique experience. All the dishes we tried were well cooked and tasty but the lamb was delicious! The service was very polite and genuinely friendly and the prices were reasonable for tourists.
Pavlos H — Google review
Well, the ambient, lights, chairs, tables, way of serving the food and all arrangements very unique and I believe authentic (as I can’t compare to any other Ethiopian restaurant). Nevertheless, what I believe is the most important - the food, was not within our taste. The bread was very sour and made our eating very mixed taste and feeling. We will definitely not come again and I would rather not recommend this place to my friends.
Dominik — Google review
Wow. This place is incredible, a quiet spot tucked away from the busier streets. Traditional Ethiopian cuisine with curry style dishes served sociably onto one single sharing plate onto an Ethiopian style rice based pancake. Not only is the service and food fantastic, it makes for a really unique dining experience. The staff are lovely and very friendly.
Richard G — Google review
Beautiful atmosphere, calm and cozy place embedded with Ethiopian culture and a mini museum-like. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. Gotta say I'm not that big of a fan, but everyone else I went with seem to really enjoy the food, so I guess it depends with your palate. The overall service was really good.

Chapan Bhog is a delightful gem for those seeking affordable and delicious South East Indian cuisine. Nestled in the heart of the city, this cozy eatery may have a simple ambiance and can get quite busy, but it’s well worth the visit. The menu boasts an impressive array of vegetarian options, including crispy dosas and lentil pancakes served with flavorful chutneys or rich curries.
Honestly, the vegetable momos were stale and the gulab jamun was just okay. Taj offers better quality and quantity for the same price. For my next visit, I'd recommend trying their Punjabi Thali. it's significantly better than their regular menu items.
Rehmat — Google review
This restaurant is one of the area's longstanding establishments, exuding a dignified atmosphere that feels truly special. The menu offers a wide range of authentic Indian dishes, with South Indian cuisine being a particular strength. The rich aroma of biryani spices and the generous portions of dosa reflect the restaurant's authentic quality and regal ambience. Considering this, the prices are quite reasonable. However, there is one downside: the occasional disruption caused by staff sitting too close to guests and constantly staring at their smartphone screens, or laughing loudly. While likely unintentional, this behaviour unfortunately detracts from the otherwise refined atmosphere and dining experience. It’s a shame if such simple awareness is lacking, given the restaurant’s high standards. # Dar es Salaam # Tanzania

October 2024 4* Visited the place for quick lunch. The place is very simple. I am giving one extra star for food. The atmosphere is very basic and there is strong smell inside. Here is food list: - Chole Bhuture **** - Masala tea **** It is local sweet shop so you can buy sweet and namkeen. No washroom (I did not notice). Good place if you are looking for local food at good price.
Jaspal S — Google review
Only good things are Mithai, laddoo, paneer pakoda and chumchum. The worst Sambhar in town. It’s almost always stale . Today it was looking and tasting ugly like the picture. Dosa is really bad. Handwashing area needs a lot of improvement and also overall hygiene needs considerable improvement
K G — Google review
Very nice and affordable indian veg food in Dar Es Salam. Good service and good taste too.
Arunava M — Google review
I recently visited the shop and was impressed with the wide variety of treats they had to offer. From classic candy favorites to unique and exotic snacks, there was something for everyone. The store was clean and well-organized, making it easy to find what I was looking for. The staff was friendly and helpful, answering any questions I had. I particularly enjoyed the fresh-baked cookies and the handmade fudge. Overall, I had a great experience at the shop and will definitely be returning
Life A — Google review
Place is good, food is good. Great variety of food options, mainly Indian food. All served dishes are pure vegetarian. Located in a very busy area on Saturdays and Sundays where the area is full of Indian residents and tourists for the Indian restaurants around this place. But even on a busy day like that you can find a seat here where few other famous places around has house full and very difficult to get a table. Also this place sells Indian sweets. Prices are bit lower than other popular Indian restaurants around.
Anuradha P — Google review
One of the best vegetarian restaurants I have ever visited in Africa You feel at home Their spring roll Dosa is fantastic 👌 They do various types of dosas more than any other restaurant even in South India. All their preparations are authentic Indian. Even my African friends started eating at this restaurant whenever I visited Dar. East Africa is a heaven for Indian vegetarian food. Let us salute them for their magnanimity in accommodating other cultures.

Epi d'Or, a renowned eatery in Dar es Salaam, is widely favored due to its delectable cuisine, reasonable prices, and amiable service. Situated on State House Road, this French establishment has been offering delicacies like escargots and braised beef cheeks since 1972, consistently satisfying patrons with their culinary expertise.
They have amazing food, anything you order would be yummy for sure. They keep busy but the service is surely good. Lamb shank was out of this world. Play area is lovely, nieces had a blast playing on the swings and sand. Would go back always. One of my favorite spots in Dar es salaam 😍

The food was good but cold. Shakes were really good and the service was very poor despite of being less traffic innthr restaurant
Inder B — Google review
The only thing I can recommend are the shakes, especially the cookie one. The food is flavorless and cold, and the service is poor; it took too long to bring us anything. I don't know if it was just bad luck or if it's always like that.
Kimberly C — Google review
Wonderful spot in Masaki – with a French name, though the menu leans more international. You’ll find the French touch mostly in the bakery. I tried a few starters, and everything was prepared with care. The outdoor seating under the pergolas has a relaxed, inviting atmosphere.
Oliver H — Google review
Delicious food and great atmosphere. The steak was the star of our visit. Service does take a bit longer when they are busy. It does take a long time for a server to get to your table, happened to me twice. Their coffee options are great they also decaf options which was just perfect for me. They have a small area for kids to play with some slides and a sand pit. They also have the best bread in the city.
Kamal S — Google review
The place could really do with their wait staff to really pay more attention to detail (had to swot away flies trying to land on my food for 15 minutes before I lost my cool before someone noticed. Are there no professional pest control companies in Tanzania like Korea’s CESCO? They could even even have suggested that they move me inside the restaurant building, which as it was my first visit, I know noticed after finishing my meal. Also utensils, there’s nothing worse than using a blunt knife to slice through toast. Otherwise the food tasted really good and my passion fruit mousse from the patisserie was out of this world good!
Christopher K — Google review
The food is amazing and the staff are super friendly, great service all around!

Found this place online with good reviews. Visited here for dinner. There was a birthday party going, so we had to sit inside. Anyways, good seating options both indoors and outdoors. They have a kid park too, for kids entertainment. We ordered Iced tea, Chicken Pizza, Seafood Pasta and Salmon feta sandwich. Salmon cheese was bland and salmon was raw. Pizza and Pasta were fine. Service and ambience was fine.

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant Masaki area of Dar es Salaam, Bella Napoli Ristorante & Pizzeria proudly claims its title as a premier destination for Italian cuisine. This charming eatery specializes in authentic southern Italian dishes, crafted with fresh local ingredients and traditional cooking techniques by an experienced Italian chef. Guests can indulge in a variety of vegetarian options and homemade delights like fresh bread and breadsticks, many sourced from their own garden.
It was the first time I tried pizza in Dar. I saw the reviews, and because it was located in Masaki (good area), I decided to try. The pizza was really good, good quality ingredients, nice size, and very fair price. So, for that reason, I give 5 stars. The place is ok, not fancy, but reasonable. The weather was terrible, so it did not help the atmosphere. If you take kids, they have a huge playground. Service was also reasonable but not really that nice and friendly like we are used in Africa. The restaurant is located in a kind of private backyard, with no view to anything, and that is a little strange. Considering the food quality and the cost, it's for sure a good place for pizza in Dar. It's totally recommended.
Vergílio T — Google review
The lemon puffs are not to my taste, there is ginger in them, the taste is very strong, the pasta is delicious, the environment is elegant
Stephanie — Google review
A quaint Italian restaurant with cozy family vibe, ample indoor and outdoor seating. Service is lacking, the lack of hospitality and arrogant attitude of the waiting staff can be off-putting. PROS:lovely vibes, food is decent, price is reasonable given the decor of the restaurant. Portion is generous. We would love to keep coming back if it weren’t for the ‘haughty and mighty’ wait staff. CONS:service service service. If only the wait staff is more friendly. But almost all the female staff we spoke to appeared indifferent and ARROGANT even, no smiling whatsoever. Our waitress forgot to bring our antipasto, when asked, she didn’t even say a simple ‘sorry’, not a smile, only went away with a straight face. Our moods were pretty much killed after that.
ART L — Google review
The restaraunt has lovely setting with lots of parking. A stress free and calm place and kid friendly. The pastas are freshly made, and grilled dishes decent. However the pizzas are disappointing. The cheese is not fresh buffalo mozzarella. The marinara sauce also lacks any real flavour. We really hope they can revamp their pizzas as it's overall a great place to have a meal.
Lunar R — Google review
A cozy family style, classic restaurant from Napoli, Italia. Everything looks so simple but also very authentic. Their Risotto tastes better than the one at Amalfi Mediterranean Restaurant.
Pepe — Google review
So we reached the restaurant when they were few minutes to close. (Which we dint know that they close early) but they still served us, which was great full of them. The server was knowledgeable, he knew the products served. The food was great, the ambience was also good! The place has indoor & outdoor sitting, as well as a small playground for children. The only disappointment was on the drinks, the virgin mojitos ordered, was too sour & not sweet, tried to ask for sugar syrup. Got sugar instead, but then was taking time to dissolve. So couldn't enjoy it. Otherwise good experience!
Hiren P — Google review
Delicious food! Was so happy with our experience here. My husband had gluten free pizza and pasta for the first time in forever and my daughter enjoyed the playground and the nice dada working there. We will be coming back!
Rebekah C — Google review
Nice and quiet italian restaurant. It was a bit dark inside. The food was good (pasta and pizza). Thin crust pizza which I think is the best I had in Dar es Salaam. The pasta carbonara was good and the portion was big. The service was nice and quick. They offered us some bread, oil and garlic when we sat down

I love the service, the waiters r very friendly and loving, the atmosphere is great. The sitting arrangement of also great. Inside and outside sitting areas, a garden too. Food is very nice and coffee is great. The parking section is not so clean though but overall everything is great. The price is reasonable too.

Cozy! Delicious coffee! There are 3 cute white rabbits in the yard. The only problem is that it's impossible to find a table during lunch time because many people come to the coffee shop to work with their laptops. Guys, rent an office instead of making the coffee shop a co-working space.
Анастасия С — Google review
Delicious food & coffee, great service. Very helpful staff who work hard to get food out fast even when they're busy. I worked on my laptop for several hours and the wifi was strong and reliable. Comfortable outdoor seating, as well as quiet, air conditioned indoor seating
Sofia A — Google review
Friends recommended Woodberry Cafe, and the first impression—with the backyard garden and the white rabbits roaming freely on the green grass—was lovely. Still, the garden and the children’s play area could use a serious makeover. The food, though, was a real disappointment. Nothing I tried, not even the chocolate chip cookie at the end, was particularly tasty. The service, on the other hand, was excellent.
Oliver H — Google review
A very calm and peaceful place to work or read a book or pass your time.. Amazing food... I really loved the food and chai pots they have on the menu.. Kids can also enjoy their time here.. Nice play area, garden and rabbits running here and there makes it the best place to bring your kids for a while.. And you can have your space while they enjoy the place
Sahitya K — Google review
I got a fruit smoothie, which is nothing but fruit. No cream, milk, etc. I don't think it even had added sugar. Very nice. And I had a white rice bowl with chicken that came with an onion/chives sort of relish. Delicious. Very reasonable price. Great environment and nice staff.
Martin H — Google review
What i liked: The restaurant is located in a nice and quiet place, they have a good garden and open space. Decorations are fitting and amazing. The customer care was really good and the food was exceptional. What I did not like: There were flies when we were having breakfast which caused me to not fully enjoy my meal. However everything else was so on point that i just have to give a five star rating. My Experience: It was my first time visiting the restaurant and i was impressed by the service and food. I ordered the large breakfast menu, with juice, sausage, Spanish eggs etc. yum-yum Recommendations: Anti fly devices on every table would help. Or alternative methods

Truly amazing vegan food (with a separate meat menu as well.) The portions are huge. The quality of the produce and dishes is the best I’ve had in all of Tanzania. Everything is fresh, well-cleaned and well-prepared. The vegetable balls were my favorite, as were te vegan crab cakes. But I was happy that big side salads were served free of charge with everything

I have been here three or four times. It has a great atmosphere. It's an ideal place for a date night. It is the only restaurant in Dar with a huge selection of vegan options. This is my second review on pappa rotti however with at least 6-7 times visit with friends. I was surprised that on social media there was a boom on all fancy and great photos but the fact that service grade is decreasing. My friend has ordered beef fillet with chips first but after while the waiter informed us there’s no chips ready. I have order fresh orange juice then be informed there’s no orange, then they referred me choosing passion fruit juice after while be informed again there’s no passion plz choose other so I picked avocado then again there’s no avocado I have to choose mango juice. The espresso that I have the coffee cup was dirty with stain on the cup and plate that I have to tell barista plz change for me. The Greek salad I received was totally not the GREEK salad, the waiter saw me with confusing face then he invited the manager explained me they don’t have the cherry tomatoes and rocket veggies. Was surprised but had no choice right ? The cheese in their “geek salad” isn’t feta cheese it’s like cheddar cheese. The manager said “you know local market isn’t stable.” What’s that mean? The client would be more comfortable if you just apologized and told the truth that you didn’t prepare for these ingredients. It’s a nice place for photos, the baked bun and a cup of papa milk tea. I am glad that the nice decor is providing a place for gathering but the food and service just don’t expect too much with the performance right now so far. Positive thing is servers are friendly. For foodie friend who’s looking for higher standard of service and food and beverage sincerely I recommend their neighbor cafe like epicdor/ levant / orchid cafe. For this second review sincerely wish to give these comment and advise to visitors and owner. P.s. the ladies toilet is too stuffy.

There are many reasons to visit here. 1. Spacious area. There are many tables not only outside but also inside. 2. Pleasant atmosphere. The area including toilet is clean. Inside cool, outside fresh. 3. Featured Coffee Bun. This cafe is famous for Coffee Bun. They make it professionally. There are various toppings. I strongly recommend cheese topping. (I think it is expensive a little bit.) 4. Drinks menus are also good. Especially PappaRoti milk tea(Hot) is creamy & sweet. 5. Kind staffs and good service. Almost staffs try to make guests feel comfortable. 6. Closing time. PappaRoti closes 2:30am everyday. There is no cafe or store which closes at that time in Masaki except PappaRoti.

Cake delights serves it fundamental purpose as a cake bakery, nice designs, and different flavours (vanilla, chocolate🍫, red velvet & lemon 🍋). Their shop was somewhat lacking in space to showcase enough of their work, but they make up for it in the effort that goes into the cakes. In all honesty, I ordered a cake from them for a friend and never got to taste it, so I can't comment on that. Hence the 3/5 rating. I would still tell you to give them a shot, they just might surprise you and your taste buds.

I visited Soul Treats bakery because I was attracted by their advertised naked carrot cake priced at 35,000 TZ. Unfortunately, they didn't have it available, so I settled for a slice of their carrot loaf instead. The loaf was delicious and the store had a nice setup. However, I felt that the price of 36,000 TZ for the loaf was a bit expensive. It seems that cakes are considered a luxury in Tanzania.
My verdict: definitely go have some cake at Soul Treats! They are sooo good! The location is a bit hidden, but once you see it, you won’t forget it. The atmosphere is modern and cozy. I gave it 4 stars only because it feels like it could be even better. A star was simply missing. It was clean and smelled good, of course. Service was great and the cakes were amazing! I definitely recommend Soul Treats!

I actually went to soul treats cos of the naked carrot caked advertised on their website for 35,000 tz it would have been perfect but they didn't have it. Tried a slice of the carrot loaf. Its really good. Nice set up in store as well. Felt the loaf for 36000 was too pricey. I guess cake in tanzania is considered a luxury

The customer service was great. I ordered a red velvet cake for my mom's birthday and it was delicious! The cake design was also top notch. I also had a brownie from the shop when I stopped by, it was moist and delicious. Loved it!

Good cakes & cupcakes. Their buttercream topping is exceptionally good (according to me, of course😉!). Slightly expensive. Costumer service was also good.
Jungle B — Google review
The cakes are really good and the bakery is really cute and comfy. However, they dont really have any classic cakes like a simple blackforest cake, so if thats what you're looking for, it's not the place. It's also pretty pricy, but they're really friendly and produce a good service.
