Aran Bakery in Budapest is a charming establishment founded by a Hungarian couple with a passion for travel and baking. Their global adventures have influenced the diverse range of bread and pastries available, drawing inspiration from Irish, French, American, and Hungarian culinary traditions. The bakery's signature sourdough bread, crafted with a starter named Paddy from Dublin, is a standout offering.
The best croissant of my life to date. The taste is amazing, and very fresh.. This is not a cafe, the seating is limited and the space is small, but the quality of their pastries is excellent. Highly recommended
Negin — Google review
Arán Bakery offers a wide variety of pastries, breads, cafe and sandwiches with fast service and a stylish, modern vibe. It can get very busy, especially in the mornings. While the selection is impressive, the sandwich with chicken I had came with very hard bread—tough to chew and not the most enjoyable. Great for a quick stop, but some items may be more style than comfort. Decent prices in good location, overall recommend it!
Maria A — Google review
A lovely corner bakery with all kinds of baked goods and bread and you could get. The coffee are also super delicious. Seatings are limited but if you want to grab and go, definitely a perfect spot for that. We got the iced dirty chai, flat white, a cruffin, a cinnamon bun, and orange juice. Everything was great. We ended up revisiting a couple days later.
Khattiya C — Google review
We went to Arán for breakfast and tried their famous cinnamon roll, another pastry, and a latte — all of which were really good. There’s a small seating area, and although there was a queue, it moved quite fast. A lovely spot for a quick and tasty breakfast!
Dory G — Google review
Very tasty hot choc and pain au choc. I would return to try other parts of the bakery (although I'm restricted with nut allergy). Limited seating indoors so we took ours out to enjoy (there are seating spots round the side).
Callum S — Google review
This is absolutely the best bakery in Budapest! The pastry is of such good quality. You must try the cruffin.
Learn D — Google review
Amazing bakery, great prices and good quality! The savory pastries are delicious and the Guinness cake was a must. The Hungarian dessert was also incredible.
Pietra S — Google review
Another day, another tough decision on where to go for breakfast…and I’m so glad I chose this small bakery! Definitely worth the 30 minute walk, and I’d come back again. The ham and cheese croissant was gorgeous. The pastry was crispy and flaky, I loved the sesame and fennel seeds on top which added to savouriness. Also the apple and cardamom pastry, which was delicious and not too sweet. The price was really cheap too!

Breakfast restaurant
Artizan Bakery is a top craft bakery in Budapest, known for its expertise in sourdough bread and morning pastries. Located on Hold Street, this cozy cafe offers a variety of freshly baked long-fermented sourdough bread and homemade pastries. The bakery prides itself on using only locally sourced high-quality ingredients without any additives, flour improvers, or preservatives.
A Wonderful discovery in a fairly quiet side street. All products are wonderful to look at and super tasty! The staff is very friendly and they explained all the different pastry and types of bread to me. The latte was made to perfection! Loved it! I ate there but bought a couple of things to bring back to the apartment.
Esther S — Google review
We came because it had a high rating. There was a line at the door and the outdoor tables were full. We ordered one cinnamon roll, one chocolate roll, and two cappuccinos. We sat upstairs. The rolls didn’t taste that good. The place is cute, but what we had wasn’t worth the price. I think it’s an overrated spot.
Yasemin I — Google review
Charming bakery right by the Ministry of Sports. Expect a line, but it moves quickly. Warm, hard-working staff keep things humming. Pastries are stellar. Don’t miss the croissants, baguettes, and the tangy sourdough bread. Worth the wait and a repeat visit. Coffee’s solid, too. Prices are fair.
Jan — Google review
Artizan Bakery is an absolute gem in Budapest. Everything we tried was so tasty, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Their pastries are light, flaky, and packed with flavor, and the sourdough bread is exceptional. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques, which makes a huge difference. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, perfect for breakfast or a quick coffee break. Staff were friendly and efficient, even though the place was busy. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and the coffee pairs perfectly with their pastries. Tip: Go early for the best selection, items sell out fast. Try their almond croissant or pistachio pastries, they’re incredible. Expect a short wait during peak hours, but it’s worth it. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Artizan is a must-visit for anyone who loves great bread and pastries in Budapest.
Kelvin W — Google review
They’re the true bread superstars. Everything from the bakery is a hit, and the coffee is excellent. But what really stands out are their weekday lunch specials — incredibly tasty, healthy, and hearty. *Chef’s kiss!* Just make sure to come early if you want a seat.
A A — Google review
Artizan Bakery is a must-visit in Budapest! Their award-winning breads truly live up to the hype — fresh, flavorful, and delicious every time. I’ve been to Budapest twice, and both times I started my day with breakfast at Artizan Cafe. There was a long queue, but it moved quickly as customers were served fast, so the wait was definitely worth it. Just keep in mind to go early in the morning — after 9 AM, vegetarian options become limited. As a vegetarian, I’m especially impressed with the quality and variety of vegetarian choices. The staff are friendly and provide excellent service, making the whole experience even better. The ambience is cozy and inviting, and the prices are very reasonable for such high quality. If you’re in Budapest and love great bread and tasty vegetarian food, this place is a top pick. Highly, highly recommended! 🥖✨
Srashti U — Google review
One of the best pastries I had in Budapest! 🥐 Super crispy and thin layers—you can literally see them flake apart. So light but packed with flavor. Seriously amazing. If you're in Budapest, this place is a must-visit. Hoping it's open on Sunday because I’m definitely going back! All the staffs were friendly and helping customers even though 5 min before closing time!! What an amazing place. 👏

Welcoming breakfast place for pastries and coffee. We ordered at the counter and they gave us a number for our table. We liked the choices and plan to try other items in the following days. Service is nice and efficient.

Bakery
Freyja is a popular neighborhood cafe in Budapest known for its exquisite sweet and savory croissants, as well as sandwiches and coffee. The bakery has gained such popularity that it now has two locations in the city. Each croissant is meticulously crafted with 27 buttered layers, resulting in a light, flaky texture that melts in your mouth. The menu features a variety of creative flavors, including options like prosciutto and goat cheese with fig jam or pistachio.
Travelled half of the Budapest for the best croissant in town and it was not disappointed. I enjoyed the plain croissant more than the pistachio one but that's completely on me because I don't have a sweet tooth and can't really deal with sweet treat in the morning. But the croissant itself was crunchy, flaky and buttery. And when you bite inside, you can see the layers properly done. So it's worthy of the trip. But the flat white was too light and the iced macha latte tastes powdery. In terms of price, it's cheaper than the cafes in the city centre.
Jia L — Google review
It holds its own against the classic French croissant. It has more structural integrity but still has a flakiness and chewiness to it (not as flaky or messy, almost neat). The tastes are complimentary - I got the raspberry pistachio flower croissant and it was well balanced. Small but satisfying. À bit expensive but it is artisanal. The cafe has seating but is no laptop (which was annoying but I respect. Free Wi-Fi). PS there was no queue when I went and the tables turnover quick which was nice! Also toilets :)
Kelly F — Google review
They have good sweet croissants and they used to have savory options as well (ham and cheese croissant, in particular). However, the savory options are off the menu now and when I asked for ham and cheese croissant, I was told that they only have a sandwich now but offered to switch bread with croissant. Well, what I received was a total disappointment, which tasted mediocre at best. Would only recommend to come here for their sweet croissants.
Sofia K — Google review
Looks way better than it tastes. Had the pistachio croissant and the pumpkin spice caramelita cruffin. The pistachio cream was way too salty and the pastry to dry. Coffee was okay but nothing more. Interior light should be a little less “white” to make it more cozy.
Viktoria R — Google review
A place with a friendly atmosphere with a touch of Scandinavia. The pastries are very tasty, as are the drinks. We had a hard time leaving. We will definitely return the next time we visit Budapest.
Tereza F — Google review
Great pastries here! Flaky buttery croissants and sticky sweet buns. We didn’t get to try everything we wanted to try so definitely will come back next time I’m in town. The coffee is fine, could be a little stronger for me. ;) Gets very busy in the weekend!!
K — Google review
Amazing croissants! Freyja definitely lives up to its reputation. The croissants are perfectly flaky, buttery and full of flavor — honestly some of the best we’ve ever tried.
Sevi — Google review
The croissant and coffee were quite delicious. The only thing I don't understand is that even though we went early in the morning, they didn't have any salty croissants or sandwiches. It doesn't make sense that they were sold out. I think the habit of eating something salty for breakfast is culturally related. We didn't get to try any of the savory options on the menu.

Nestled just a short stroll from the bustling Great Market Hall, Butter Brothers Bakery & Bistro is a delightful gem that has been captivating taste buds since its inception in 2012. This charming bakery, run by an enthusiastic and innovative team, specializes in crafting rich and flaky pastries with an impressive array of fillings that change almost daily based on seasonal ingredients. Their cocoa swirls are particularly popular among patrons, showcasing their commitment to quality as they source dairy products from a local free-range family farm.
Hands down best bakery/coffee shop in Budapest!! I’ve come 5 days straight to try every baked good on the menu. Top favorites are cottage cheese croissant, blueberry Camembert croissant, and the körözöttes focaccia sandwich! Hope all of these will encourage you as they encouraged me!
Agnes F — Google review
I used to live close to this bakery and it was my favourite place. Unfortunately, now it is too far to visit that often. This week I came there twice because on the day I came first time they didn't have any kakaos csiga (my fav) so I took turos taska and I was a bit disappointed... the dough wasn't creating layers and wasnt crispy at all. It tasted like regular turos taska from lidl ;) i couldn't believe that the quality dropped that much. I came back again yesterday and I was positively suprised that the pastries were crispy and fresh as I remembered. Because of that situation I'm taking one star as that good bakery should try to keep same standard all the time. Regardless I recommend to visit this place! Most of pastries is 1000 huf per piece.
Joanna B — Google review
Great place to have a coffee and sth like a croissant and roll. The place is small and they don’t have many seats available so you might not fight a place to sit at busy times. The coffee tastes good, the walnut roll was good to enjoy. Good place. Recommended.
Murat K — Google review
I went there two days in a row for croissants, they do not have . Their croissants are the best in the world. I really like it. But they ran out of the croissant very fast before 10.
Keynes N — Google review
A cozy little place run by two young people eager to offer good products and friendly service. It's the perfect place for breakfast some pastries and good coffee.
Xavi C — Google review
Best chocholate rolls in the city but probably in the world too. On top of that: good vibe, premium coffee and a very cool owner. Its a must if you visit Budapest.
Bálint F — Google review
2000 HUF for a not fresh small pistachio croissant, and 2000 HUF for 1 FLAT WHITE??? That’s a ripoff. Place wants to compete with best bakeries in town like Vaj and Artizan, but provides very poor quality with inflated prices . AVOID THIS PLACE.
Eduardo M — Google review
If you are in Budapest, you MUST come here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recommended by our Airbnb host and we came here five days in a row. Small but incredible bakery. Both salty and sweet were amazing. Personally recommendation: Salty - red pesto is the best. Sweet - cinnamon bun is heaven. Go earlier in case sold out. I wanted to try daily soup but failed everyday………………. Definitely the highlight of our Budapest 😂

NOR"MA is a Nordic-style bakery that is a high-end artisan bakery located in Budapest, offering a wide range of contemporary global favorites such as cardamom buns, filled croissants, and sourdough breads. The bakery's name is a fusion of 'Nordic' and 'Magyar,' reflecting the inspiration drawn from the owners' time in Copenhagen.
Guys please enjoy a good and easy sweet/salty breakfast at this bakery. We been there for 3 mornings straight and we tried almost all the sweet croissant. They were all really tasty (even the empty one). The salty pastries were looking good too (see attached picture). Furthemore,I suggest to try the plain home made focaccia as well. Good quality coffee as well!
Flaminia F — Google review
We had a vegetarian sandwich and this sweet croissant, they were both very tasty and refreshing. For us as tourists I came across a bit of chaos in ordering and what everything is on the menu. On the other hand, the barista kindly helped us.
Anna B — Google review
I tried the Norma plate for breakfast and was unfortunately quite disappointed. The bread and pickled veggies were the only delicious parts. The garlic and burned butter were extremely bland and definitely took away from the overall experience. The coffee is solid and the pastries are good, but I’m sure you can find a better breakfast/brunch experience elsewhere in the city.
Sonya B — Google review
Just happened to stumble upon this bakery, which smelled heavenly. I decided on a kardamom pastry. It was good and flavorful but looking back kardamom is a very acquired taste, so I wish I had gotten something else. But it was good. 950 ft
Tiffany C — Google review
A Nordic styled cafe with not a big selection of pastries. The ones I tried were, not a wow, but quite good. Staffs were friendly and helpful. I loved the seating outside.
Thi V — Google review
I am on the quest for the perfect croissant.. Talán inkább ne északi stílusú pékség... Translate this bakery is emulating or attempting to emulate an "eastern style of baking"... To me there was no layering of the dough, laminated, maybe they went to far easterly. Croissants started in Hungary...maintain the integrity of the chefs when Község stood their ground.
Andrew K — Google review
One of those modern/new coffee places/houses in Budapest. Architecture and interior decoration is really pleasant. It’s spacious with a very pleasant set up. Tables inside with A/C when it’s hot and few tables outside. Good choice of breads, pastries and sandwiches. Many types of coffees and the ones I took were very tasty. The staff is very pleasant , patient and helpful, especially when one is limited in Hungarian.
Alexandre V — Google review
Cute little cafe with a selection of baked goodies. I had the pistachio crossiant which was not overly sweet, with a generous amount of pistachio cream. However, the prices are a bit on the expensive side.

Ruszwurm Confectionery is a historic family-run cafe located in the Castle District of Buda, Budapest. Established in 1827, this charming dessert cafe is renowned for its traditional Hungarian pastries, including the iconic creamy pastry known as "kremes." The cafe's signature almond cake has been a best-seller for nearly two decades and offers a delightful harmony of almond cream and caramel layers.
We had a tour and talked to owner. What an amazing story behind their purchase and getting into the business. Lovely people and wonderful products. Not a dining experience. A candy, confectionery business.
Paul B — Google review
Coffee shop with a lot of history. Great coffee and very nice cakes, the Ruszwurm custard cake was delicious. Avoid the lemonade; many people left it unfinished. Unfortunately, it's a popular tourist spot, so the shop is always very busy, and the service was very poor.
KloudManc — Google review
The cake was highly popular. I guess we are not for it as it had lots of cream but it is a cream cake so it’s only natural. It tasted good though. We just wanted to try this cafe as it has a long history. If you sit indoors, it is warm though so maybe sitting outdoors would be much better😀
Yeo ( — Google review
Absolutely loved this patisserie! The cake was moist, flavorful, and perfectly sweet — you can tell it’s made with love. The coffee was rich and smooth, a perfect match. What really makes this place special is the charming old-school vibe — vintage decor, cozy atmosphere, and a peaceful setting that takes you back in time. A good spot to unwind with a treat. Highly recommend!
Sarah M — Google review
We came for the Kremes ( Vanilla Cream Slice) and stayed for the Almond cake. Last visit was 8yrs ago and it is exactly as we remember. Yes the wait might be long to get a table and the staff are busy, but that's because it is so good. There are lots of beautiful places to sit not too far from the cafe so if the line is long, grab it to go. We visited twice this time around and great both times
Daniella B — Google review
Historic and popular café near Buda Castle, but a bit overrated. We waited in a long queue for an outdoor table. Tried three recommended pastries—none were particularly impressive. Staff wasn’t friendly. Not accessible for wheelchairs—there are 3–4 steps at the entrance.
Trawheel.packer — Google review
Good coffee and cream cake. The reason I gave it 1 star is because the service was bad. This cafe is known for its cream cake. Upon arrival I ordered 4 coffees and 4 cream cakes. We then got 4 coffees promptly and then just got 1 cream cake. I asked where the other 3 were and the server said they were sold out. Why couldn't he tell me this earlier? Secondly, this cafe is famous for cream cake, how could they sell out of such an iconic item
Akil M — Google review
If you’re a fan of desserts and tasty pastries, you must try their pastries. You will not be disappointed. I bake a lot and what I tried was heavenly. Congrats for making cakes and baked goodies for almost 200 years. Food: 5+/5 - we had the crème cake, caramel cake and Eszterhazy torta! My favorite was the Ruszwurm cake. They even have cookies and gluten free options. Try their assorted drinks and ice creams. I had the sour cherry lemonade which was full of fruity taste. They also offer takeout if you choose not to wait. Service: 5/5 the servers outside did a wonderful job with the crowd control as the odd person tried sneaking in. The lineups can get crazy and hectic. Atmosphere: 4/5 - there was outdoor and inside seating.

Molnár's kürtőskalács, also known as chimney cakes, have a rich history dating back to Hungarian settlers in Transylvania. These cylindrical pastries are a beloved traditional treat often associated with celebrations and special occasions. Today, they can be found throughout Budapest, with vendors showcasing the baking process on the streets.
Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács) [4.5/5] 🍞 Food Super addictive—I couldn’t stop tearing off strip after strip. The thin, glossy crust isn’t too sweet and gives way to a soft, slightly chewy, airy inside. You get a light sweetness from the crust and a gentle yeasty note from the center. Tip: enjoy half while it’s fresh from the oven, then have the other half after it’s rested for a few hours or overnight—you’ll get two different experiences. ➕ Toppings Tried almond, walnut, and cinnamon. None were overpowering; they added a nice small boost to the flavor. 👀 Experience Fun to watch it being made in the open kitchen. ✅ Verdict Strongly recommended!

Nice place to sit and relax while enjoying the best chimney cake in Budapest. Each empty chimney cake cost 2.2K Forint. They're good enough to eat as it is, no need the filling of ice cream or other stuff. The cafe has comfy seats and also clean toilet which my kid happily used for big biz.

Best chimney cake in Budapest!! Great prices. Hot fresh and crispy chimney cakes. Quick service. Plenty of clean seating. Free toilets. Have come back here many times and quality is consistent.

Very nice place where to sit and taste a delicious chimney in Budapest! We tryed the pistacchio chimney and it was so delicious! We really liked seeing the preparation of chimneys happening in front of us and here the product are 100% fresh. The chimney was big compared to others and the price was very good. We really like it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re in Budapest and want to try a truly authentic kürtőskalács, Molnár’s Kürtőskalács is unbeatable. This was by far the best one I’ve had in the city, the dough is soft, warm, and perfectly caramelized on the outside. What really sets it apart, though, is the ice cream. Unlike the artificial, low-quality ice cream you often find at other spots, this one is creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. The combination with the kürtőskalács is heavenly and makes it a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. Definitely a highlight of my Budapest trip!

Went there twice to get my chimney cake fix. Each time the chimney cakes were hot and fresh and rolled with the topping we want. It’s best cooled down but it was nice to have a freshly baked one.

While strolling around the city, we noticed lots of people holding these big, delicious looking ice cream cones and decided to give it a try. It was our first time eating it, and we didn’t really know what to expect, but it was amazing! The vanilla ice cream was creamy and milky, really smooth and tasty. But the real star was the chimney cake cone itself. Soft, slightly sweet, and warm, eating it on its own is already a treat, and with the ice cream, it’s next level delicious. If you’re in Belgium, don’t miss trying this, it’s fun to eat and absolutely worth it!

The pistachio chimney cake was 10/10. It was hot and warm when they served it. The almond chimney cake was tasty but the pistachio chimney cake with pistachio cream was the best for me. 10/10 warm and resently out of the oven.

Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros is a charming and traditional café with a cozy atmosphere, featuring classic Hungarian cakes and desserts. The family-run business has been passing down recipes through generations, offering a delightful selection of treats such as Dobos cake, retes, and Eszterhazy cake. Whether you're on the Pest or Buda side of the city, you're likely to come across one of their three locations.
I visited Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros and purchased cakes. The café itself has a charming, traditional ambiance with elegant mirrors and warm wood-backed furniture. The cake was beautifully presented, showcasing the craftsmanship that Auguszt is known for. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, making for a delightful treat. If you're looking for a cozy spot with high-quality pastries, this is a great choice!

Great cakes. Good espresso. Quiet place to sit down. What else would you need to kick off your afternoon? The down side is the FOMO for the cakes you haven't tried...

We went to this lovely cafe for breakfast today and had a truly wonderful time. This lovely lady provided us with excellent service. I've never seen better service. I highly recommend it. We also had dessert and coffee, and everything from the food to the drinks was excellent.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A true Budapest gem! Auguszt is not just a café – it’s a piece of Hungarian history served on a plate. Every bite feels like a journey through generations of craftsmanship and tradition. We tried the Dobos torte, the Krémes, and a savory quiche – all absolutely outstanding. The Dobos was rich yet perfectly balanced, the Krémes was light and heavenly, and even the salad next to the quiche was fresh and flavorful. The coffee was excellent too. The atmosphere is elegant but warm, with a real sense of family heritage. You can feel the pride and love that go into every pastry. Unlike the touristy cafés around the city, this one feels authentic, calm, and genuinely Hungarian. If you want to experience the soul of Budapest’s pastry culture – this is the place. Highly recommended!

An exceptionally pleasant and cozy patisserie. The interior is impressive, as can be seen in the videos. The lady who served us was very kind and friendly, and the Dobos and Eszterházy cakes we tried were delicious and light. It is definitely worth a visit.

One of the most welcoming and helpful staff I've come across in Budapest. The atmosphere was great, the staff were warm and welcoming. They were kind enough to go through all the different pastry names for me in English, no one's done that yet. Although I reached close to the cafe closing they were quite accomodating. I tried only one pastry, it's my new favourite and totaly worth it. I would definitely visit again! Thank you!

VAJ, which means "butter" in Hungarian, is a spacious bakery located just outside the city center by Rakoczi ter. The airy and industrial space offers a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and light fare along with cocktails. The glass display showcases an array of freshly baked breakfast pastries, breads, and bagels. Visitors praise the turos taska as one of Budapest's best.
This is a very nice place! They serve really good coffee and excellent pastries! Both savory and sweet. I recommend the creme brûlée croissant, it has such a great texture and amazing flavors. The cafe has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. The only negative thing is that we had questions about allergies that they didn’t take seriously or could answer at first. After that they got the manager, then we felt better because he could give answers about what pastries contained nuts! Overall I had a good experience

Our favorite breakfast place. We went 2 consecutive days as the variety of products will bet you surprised everytime :) We've tried sandwiches and also sweet products and all were amazing. I especially recommend the pretzel sandwich and the pistacchio croissant.

Easily the BEST coffee and pastries in Budapest. We tried Espresso Tonic, their Kombucha and Matcha tonic. Also had their pistachio croissant and crème brûlée croissant- both absolutely to die for. Also the veggies and goat cheese pasty looked great. For best coffee go to VAJ across the city.
Rituja R — Google review
Expensive but there’s a reason why it costs so much. They sell the best pistachio croissant I’ve had in my life. Perfect blend of creaminess, nuttiness and crunch from the pistachio creme. The coffee is solid as well. Would highly recommend to anyone who’s looking for the best breakfast experience in Budapest.

We visited Vaj Bakery and absolutely enjoyed the experience. We tried their famous pistachio croissant, which was really good with just the right amount of sweetness. The vegetarian toast sandwich was warm, fresh, and delicious, and the coffee was equally nice. The outlet we visited had outdoor seating, and it was pleasant to sit outside. They also have multiple outlets across the city.

During my whole trip, I was on the lookout for a proper pastry shop - mainly for croissants and, most importantly, macarons. I stumbled upon this place almost by chance and was more than satisfied! For me, macarons are the true test of a pâtisserie, and here they were truly worthy. Croissants were excellent as well. I also liked the semi-self-service concept - makes the experience simple and relaxed. Highly recommended! 🌿

I tried the Crème Brûlée Croissant today and it was sooo yummy! I don’t even know how they made it taste that good! I also drank their Ginger Lemonade , not too sweet and super refreshing. The only thing is the shop is really crowded, so you can’t sit for too long. But I still wanna go back!

Amazing bakery with incredible pastries (worth the wait!) Vaj Bakery is truly one of the best bakeries I’ve visited — Scandinavian-inspired and absolutely delicious. There was a long line when we arrived, but it moved super quickly. The staff were friendly and efficient. It’s quite crowded outside, and there are lots of pigeons hanging around hoping for leftovers. But if you’re patient, tables free up pretty quickly. I tried the pistachio croissant — 10/10, with a rich, intense pistachio flavor. The vanilla poppy seed roll blew me away — the combination was amazing, full of flavor with delicious vanilla cream and perfect dough. One of my friends had the bostock croissant, and it was mind-blowing — another 10/10! And savoury one with pesto and dried tomatoes was guite delicious as well! Coffee was good quality too, a nice pairing with the pastries. A fantastic spot for pastry lovers. Crowded, but absolutely worth it for the quality of the food.

Cosy bakery, with plenty of freshly baked pastry 🥐 and bread 🥖 , I tried a flat white which was tasty. There are sites on side walk in summer. Plenty of paid street parking which is kind of hard to find a free one though due to a high number of businesses on the area.

I can only say that perhaps it's typical of cafes in Hungary, but the service is terrible, and this time was no different. Perhaps the owner could teach his staff to be friendlier, to greet you when you arrive, and even to smile, even if you've had a terrible day. That's called customer service..

Not a good experience here at all. I don’t know if they make these in house but what we got was stale and not tasty at all. Service here is also not very good or friendly. I’m not sure what the hype is about this place but it’s an overpriced bakery. You can get way better bakery items from Lidl or Aldi. So skip this place and go elsewhere. You can thank me later

Café Gerbeaud, established in 1858, is a renowned and lavishly adorned coffeehouse located in Budapest. The grand dining room features high ceilings and elegant chandeliers, offering a selection of coffee, delectable cakes, and Hungarian bistro specialties. The café's opulent décor includes original exotic-wood paneling, antique furniture, and intricate stucco details.
An iconic and elegant café in the heart of Budapest. I tried the famous Dobos Cake, a traditional Hungarian dessert made of thin sponge layers, rich chocolate buttercream, and a shiny caramel top. It was absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The cake itself has a long history: it was created by József C. Dobos in the late 1800s and became one of the symbols of Hungarian pastry art, once served even to the Austro-Hungarian royal family. The interior of Café Gerbeaud is stunning, with chandeliers, marble tables, and an atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time. Prices are a bit high, but the experience is truly worth it.

We went to this cafe on a weekday afternoon, and the indoor area was full! Beautiful interior design, very elegant. We had the Hungarian classics on one plate, which contained three slices of dessert selections with vanilla ice cream and apricot sauce. To be honest, didn’t expect that’s how the famous Dobo cake tasted like😅it’s just not for the ones with weak teeth.. the top layer was extremely sturdy. We enjoyed the Gerbeaud slice more.
Minnie L — Google review
A truly charming spot that feels like time has paused. You may wait a couple of minutes for a table, but turnover is quick. Pastries are excellent. Opt for the tasting menu to sample the range. The coffee is the star: precise extractions, smooth milk drinks, and aromatic filters. Service is warm and attentive without hovering. A lovely place to drop in for a mid-afternoon reset or an unhurried chat. Wholeheartedly recommended.
Jan — Google review
Overpriced and not worth the hype. I visited Gerbeaud Café, intrigued by its historic reputation and grand interior, and went specifically to try the famous traditional Hungarian layer cake — Dobos Torte. However, the experience was quite disappointing. We visited after lunch hours and noticed a queue of about 10–12 people outside, even though it moved fairly quickly. Once inside, we were surprised to see the café almost empty. It really felt like they keep people waiting just to create an illusion of high demand — they could easily allocate seats faster. The most shocking part was the pricing. If you choose to dine in, you pay almost double — for example, a slice of Dobos Torte costs 4,250 HUF when eaten on the premises versus 1,990 HUF for takeaway. We decided to go for takeaway instead, and honestly, I’m glad we did. The famous Dobos cake itself was underwhelming — the caramel layer on top was rock hard and nearly impossible to cut, the sponge layers were dry, and the overall taste was overly sweet and unimpressive. An experience I wouldn’t repeat, and definitely not something I’d recommend — especially considering the unreasonable prices.
Dory G — Google review
The beautifully designed and elegant interiors alone make this café well worth a visit. Drawn by its charming atmosphere, we decided to stop by for coffee and dessert. Both were beautifully presented and exceptionally tasty. The coffee was excellent, and it’s worth noting that the café offers various milk alternatives for those who are lactose intolerant, as well as gluten-free options on the menu. The only drawback is the rather high prices, further increased by a 12% service charge — although this is quite standard in Budapest. Nevertheless, for the combination of delightful flavors and refined ambiance, this place is highly recommended.

Amazing! This lovely cafe has gorgeous interior with history. Whole experience was outstanding!! Very relaxing and luxurious atmosphere with attentive staff, and most importantly their food was superb! Specially their cakes are must try. Delicate taste and not overly sweet cakes are divine!❤️

Wonderful historic place that serves the best traditional cakes you can find in the city. We got a seating without reservation and felt welcomed. The staff is kind and helpfull with explaning every cake on the menu. It is hard to say which one is the best, we ordered half of the menu. But the one that stands out is the Pistacchio one. Definitely worth the experience! 🍰♥️
Cristian T — Google review
The world famous Gerbeaud cafe lacks world class service unfortunately. They seat gests at the door having enough free tables further inside. You sit in the draught in winter due to the flood of incoming guests and constatly open door. At least they could install an isolation curtain in the entrance. When you get in, there is no garderobe and no hangers for coats so the whole cafe looks like a messy garderobe and if you are in four you have to sit on your own coats. Then you go to toilette where the hygiene is not up to standards of the prices of the cafehouse. When you order breakfast in two, they bring it separately with 8mins difference, so one has finished before the other one started. The thin ham and eggs does not come on pre heated plate, by the time you get to second egg its cold and by third even colder. After the breakfast it takes another 8mins to waiters to notice that you would like to order a dessert. For the service an automatic 15% service charge is included in the bill and the waiter patiently waits for a tip on top. Its a nice cafe at prime location, but the management should pay more attention to customer experience.

Centrál Grand Cafe & Bar is a stunning Art Nouveau cafe with a spacious interior featuring marble tables and a charming balcony. It offers an array of coffee, cakes, and traditional Hungarian dishes for lunch and dinner, as well as delightful breakfast options. The cafe holds historical significance as one of the oldest coffeehouses in Budapest, attracting renowned literary figures in the early 20th century.
We very much enjoyed our Sunday brunch experience at the Centrál Grand Cafe. The food choices were incredible. All four of us ordered different things and were extremely happy with our selections. The entrees were very well prepared and presented beautifully. Desserts were exquisite! When I took the first bite of my pistachio raspberry torte I declared it “heaven on a plate”. The atmosphere was greatly enhanced by live music provided by a talented cellist and pianist. Laci, our server, was so friendly, offered suggestions, made sure we were happy and was one of the best waiters we experienced in Budapest. While the New York Cafe has a lavish atmosphere, I preferred the Centrál Grand Cafe: food, choices of drinks, service, music, wait time, noise level, space for tables, and prices were all significantly better.

We love the atmosphere here in Central. Wonderful performance of piano & cello. Good service from an old gentleman with glasses ( sorry I didn’t remember his name). Outstanding food service. As someone who doesn’t like sweet food, the « Éclaire with Chestnut » surprised me. Ah, don’t forget all the food/drink with “Central” in its name. Strongly recommend them! This café is on my list of places I will return to.

The food was excellent and our waiter, Laci, was kind and friendly. We greatly enjoyed starting our day in Budapest here! The interior is beautiful- only reason we withheld a star is the 15% service fee on already higher prices. We will return as we enjoyed our experience but think that should be more clearly stated as it’s such a high percentage. Update: we returned for dessert and that was wonderful! There was beautiful instrumental music and our server Ga’Bor was delightful! Again, the service, the food and the atmosphere are perfect! We will return!

I've returned to Central Grand Cafe & Bar a handful of times during my stay and it never fails to disappoint. The atmosphere with live classical music playing elegantly in the background sets a relaxed mood without being too loud for conversation. Having tried a few dishes from the menu, including the desserts, its safe to say, nothing will disappoint. Finally, the service from everyone, in particular, Sandor, is above and beyond. Even during peak times, you still recieve personal service and friendly smile.

Amazing cafe in the center of Budapest. Our server Laci was very attentive and caring while we were having our desserts. We tried the Hungarian dessert set and it was very deliccious. Complimentary prosecco was also very nice. But, the waitress/server who greeted us at the front seemed very exhausted and took a very big noticeable sigh while taking us to the table. Other than that, everything was nice.

Művész Coffee House, also known as Artist Cafe, is a historic cafe established in 1898 located on Andrassy avenue. The cafe features high ceilings, huge mirrors, and chandeliers creating a bohemian atmosphere. It offers an outdoor terrace for people-watching and interior rooms adorned with ornate decorations and portraits of famous Hungarian cultural figures. The building's Neo-Renaissance facade adds to its charm.
In my opinion, when it comes to the design and atmosphere, there’s really no need for praise it’s a classic old design from 1898 that will definitely catch your eye. What mattered more to me, though, is that cafés with such a historic style, especially those popular with tourists, often don’t pay much attention to the quality of their pastries and drinks. Many times, tourists are so charmed by the beautiful setting that they don’t really focus on the quality Which, of course, is not a flaw it all depends on personal preference.. However, contrary to that expectation, the pastry and hot chocolate I ordered were truly good. The pistachio pastry was crisp with just the right amount of sweetness, and the hot chocolate was served at the right temperature with a well balanced chocolate flavor. The service was also fast and attentive.

Excellent eggs with bacon, nice cappuccino, friendly service. I liked sitting outside but inside is pretty and without the traffic noise. We've had breakfast there several times. The tables outside are a little small, fine for one person, but tiny for two.

This patisserie is an absolute delight! Established in 1898, its rich history is beautifully reflected in the elegant and classic interior design — truly a place that transports you back in time while offering modern comfort. The coffee is outstanding — rich, aromatic, and served just right. But the real stars are their artisan pastries and baked goods. Each piece is crafted with clear attention to detail, flavor, and presentation. From delicate cakes to buttery croissants, everything is simply delicious and of the highest quality. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine patisserie in a charming, historic setting.

I felt like royalty in there. Such nice cakes, amazing amount of choices of drinks, not too much food but we are here for the CAKES. Amazing atmosphere, not too crowded but could get in the right time I can imagine. Nice staff, and the CAKES. So fresh and so good! And how they show you on the screen how some of them are made is just a little something I didn’t know I needed in a cafe. Amazing!
Ronja ( — Google review
As the café’s name suggests, they still have portraits of artists hanging on the walls. The interior is beautiful and they offer a wide selection of cakes that aren’t listed on the menu. Instead, you have to browse the spinning cake shelves and pick what you want, which makes for a fun little experience. The coffee tastes decent, nothing extraordinary, but good. The waitresses are helpful but aren’t the friendliest, but I get it, working in a fancy place probably makes them a little unapproachable.
Megan W — Google review
The place is nice even they could mantain the old style in a better way ( big screen in the main salon..) and the service a bit slow, it took 20 min before coming for the order. The cakes are good but not excelent.

A very honest review: I visited this cafe a couple days ago with some of my friends from Italy. As hungarian I wanted to show them the beauty of Budapest. Based on the quite good rating of the cafe I had the impression this would be something to amaze them, something that can also reflect Hungarian tradition. After walking in and sitting down we got the menus, as I was explaining the different foods to my friends one waitress came up, I told her in hungarian in a very polite and kind way that we still need some time. After noticing that there are also cakes next to the entrance, I went there to see, which ones we could order. In the mean time another waitress went to our table, where my italian friends told them in English we still needs some time. This probably all within the first 5 minutes. While walking back to our table I hear one of the waitresses say in hungarian, this table we will not go to anymore, because they don’t know what they want. I was not sure, if she meant us, but then I later realised she was talking about our table, number 17. After that, she kept having a negative attitude towards us, like we were not welcome, also when I kindly told her we would like to order, she rudely said „mindjárt“, which means something like „in a second“. I stayed completely calm and was kind and respectful throughout our whole stay, trying not mirror the attitude from the waitress. Honestly after having this experience, I would not recommend going there, for me it ruined the whole experience. This one waitress was rude for no reason, while the whole cafe was maybe half full, if not even less, implying that they did not have much to do. I don’t recommend tourists going there, they don’t seem to have patience, there is plenty other and better cafes with better service. I will also not return after this encounter. As a hungarian myself I am quite upset that this is the kind of service offered by such a cafe in Budapest. The food and cakes were good, but I would not say it was something incredibly special.

Lisboa Pastry & Bakery is a must-visit for those looking to experience traditional Portuguese lifestyle in Budapest. With multiple locations, including one at Gozsdu udvar and another on Hollo Street, this bakery offers a variety of warm egg breakfasts and their own brand of coffee. Indulge in specially spiced sourdough breads, almond croissants, burnt Basque cheesecake, and the famous Portuguese dessert Pastel de nata.
Very good croissant and food in general. Not a tourist trap, but a bit expensive, maybe more than it should. Just be aware that this spot is always crowded and the place is rather small, so the service is gonna be slow and rather chaotic most of the time. Quite often there's a line to order and you'll almost never find a chair to seat. Anyway, the snacks are good. The pistachio croissant is delicious. But do not compare this bakery with the true Portuguese bakeries. It's just a poor imitation. (but again, a good one).

Lisboa is a nice small bakery in an easy to get to location. I find it a good option although a bit pricey, I found the staff seemed a bit overrun so it took a bit longer to be served and when we got our food it had been sitting for a few minutes so the eggs had cooled down a fair bit. But other than that it was great.

I never tried nata before, honestly it’s not my cup of tea. Maybe I am not Portugal. Pistachio croissant and pistachio de nata were great, a bit pricey maybe because of they use proper ingredients. If you pay by card they are asking if you want to tip, that doesn’t make sence, it’s a self service cafe and asking for tip :))

we stayed in budapest for 3 days and always had breakfast there. Adam and Zena were impeccable, made everything to accommodate us and were super nice. the croissant were maybe in my top 3 and the filling was abundant. we also tried the egg and bacon and were great. the only flaw, if i must say, is the smell of frying oil coming from the kitchen, but that's just because the kitchen is see through and the bakery is very small. anyway, i really think it was really the best we could have found. perfect!

I visited Lisboa Pastry & Bakery and ordered ice cream, asking for two flavours. I even pointed to the image on their sign, which clearly shows two flavours in one cone or cup. The sign says 800 Ft for 60g but doesn’t mention anything about scoops or charge per flavour. When the staff member gave me a tiny amount of chocolate, I asked, “Is that all?” and she replied, “Yes, 60 grams.” Then she added a much larger serving of the second flavour and asked for 1600ft. I complained and she said that it’s ok, I can pay for only one scoop. It’s not about the money, I insisted that I pay in full, it’s about a clearly misleading add. If you’re going to charge per scoop, you need to say so clearly. The way this was handled felt misleading. At that point I thought, fine, maybe the ice cream is amazing?! Nope. It had icicles in it. I should have walked away when I saw gelato stored in plastic tubes.

Pékműhely Bartók is a humble bakery in Budapest, with two more locations. The bakery's motto emphasizes the importance of simple ingredients and love in making great bread. Unlike other trendy bakeries, Pékműhely Bartók focuses solely on its oven treasures. Their whole wheat bread boasts a crispy exterior and a soft, airy inside with a distinct sourdough flavor.
Tiny little bakery with one baker. You can see through the glass how your bread and pastry is made. Staff is friendly and you can pay by cash or card. Variety goes from spinach cheese croissant to walnut bun and of course bread.

Small bakery on the periphery of tourist central. Not many tourists venture out here, stellar bakery with traditional breads. Love the you can watch the baker hard at work. Very good price/quality ratio. English understood, a few words in Hungarian will help.

Stopped by before walking up the hill to the citadel in Budapest. Ate warm chocolate csigas (still warm!!) and cherry and cheese pastries. Both absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough - do yourself a favour and visit if nearby.

As someone who can claim to have tried generally every named bakeries in Budapest, this is definitely one of the 2 best kakaós csigas (cocoa snails) in town. I guarantee you won't find a similar kakaós csiga from other shops. It's unique. They also have two more shops under the name 'pékműhely' on the Buda side.
Tassama K — Google review
One of the better pastry shop in Budapest. I came here for kakaos csiga (cocoa snail or swirl) and turos taska ( cottage cheese pastry) both of them were excellent in terms of taste and dough quality. I will say that the pastries were smaller and pricer than the usual pastries in Budapest, but I guess you pay for the quality here. 650 forint ~ 2 USD is at least 2 to 3 times more than it used to in Budapest just a few years ago.

Such a cute and small authentic bakery. Standing room only. I got the cocoa krispy and it was very yummy!! Went back the next day for a cheese pogcasa, which was alright. Their offering changes daily.

Cinnamon roll is really tasty!! Whole bakery smells like fresh bread And the fact that all of their breads are based on sourdough is nice :) I want to come back and try it someday :)

Delicious pastries. There are some special flavor combinations you can't find elsewhere. Also they are making the baked goods right in front of you.

Kurtoskalacs, also known as chimney cakes, is a popular Hungarian pastry that can be found in bakeries and markets across the country. These cone-shaped cakes are rolled in cinnamon sugar and often served warm, with the option of being filled with ice cream. There are various flavors to choose from, such as cinnamon and walnut. The price is reasonable compared to touristy spots, and the service is quick.
very delicious cake both chocolate and vanilla and cost only 800ft
Antreas B — Google review
The cinnamon was 800ft, not bad, but maybe we got it late, so the bread was cold.

The shop is underground at station Astoria and easy to find. The price is very good and the warm chimney cakes are delicious. Plus, it smells like heaven when taken out of the oven. Cinnamon and walnuts ones are my favorite and it’s a must try when in Budapest.
Irina C — Google review
Thank you that you make the Station Astoria with your Kurtoskalacs smell like heaven! I always likes to go up with the escalator from the subway. Big thanks from my nose!👃🏻

The best chimney cake in the whole of Budapest! This a great spot if you don't want to get ripped off and try chimney cake at like a local. In Jan 2023 we got a cake for only 700 ft and they have a lot of flavors to choose from. Very friendly staff except for when you try to take a picture, which I really didn't get.
Matteo T — Google review
This is a very frustrating situation, and the way they handled it is clearly problematic. If a place sells chimney cakes, it’s a basic expectation that they serve them properly made and warm. What’s even more outrageous is that when it turned out they didn’t even have a way to bake them, they didn’t offer any solution but simply stated that there would be no refund. From a consumer perspective, this is unfair, and at the very least, some form of compensation should have been offered—whether a replacement with another product or at least an apology.
Viktória N — Google review
If you want a good, tasty and cheap chimney cake, give this underground place a try, you will not be disappointed. If you are wondering, each chimney cake costs 2€, and it is totally worth the price! Keep in mind, though, that these do not come with toppings like nutella, but they are empty (they are delicious anyway).

Restaurant
New York Café, a Neo-Baroque establishment dating back to 1894, has a rich history as a gathering place for Hungarian writers and poets. Despite being partially destroyed during World War II and later nationalized by the communist regime, it was restored to its former glory in 2006 by the Boscolo Group. The café's opulent interior features stunning frescoes by renowned Hungarian painters from the 19th century, along with intricate marble floors and gilded decorations.
Beautiful place! We walked in by chance and I’m so glad we did. The design is stunning, the atmosphere is calm and pleasant, and everything feels thoughtful and well-crafted. The service was outstanding! Zoltan, our waiter, was absolutely delightful, friendly, and attentive — he truly made the experience even better. I ordered the apple cake, coffee, and vanilla ice cream with blueberries — everything was fresh, delicious, and perfectly done. Such a lovely spot. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Efrat R — Google review
If you want to see the venue and want amazing pictures go for it. Try and come early or late to avoid the queues. It is very beautiful inside. However if you not fussed about the fuss then avoid. I think its good to see and experience once. Service was ok. We went with time and just chilled. Was overall a good experience. The live violinist was really nice. The history of the place is amazing. There were some vegan options. The hot chocolate was very filling and rich.
Mitesh — Google review
Not worth the money if you’re going for food or coffee at New York Café. Overpriced, with the decoration being the only thing that stands out but toilets decoration is pretty poor. We visited New York Café Budapest expecting a proper gourmet experience, and while the place itself is absolutely stunning, the food really missed the mark. To be fair, the decor is gorgeous—the chandeliers and lighting give the whole place a really special vibe, and the live piano music creates a warm, cosy atmosphere. Visually, it’s pretty incredible. But the food was a real letdown. The coffee had barely any flavour, and my partner’s coffee even came out cold, so we had to send it back. He ordered the Hungarian eggs, which were alright, but my eggs Benedict were honestly a shocker. The muffin was so dry and tough it was nearly impossible to cut—nothing like the soft, fluffy base you’d expect from a proper eggs Benny. Overall, the venue is beautiful and the ambiance is spot-on, but the food just didn’t deliver. For such a famous spot, the whole dining experience was pretty disappointing and definitely didn’t live up to the hype.
Yesenia S — Google review
Visiting the New York Café was a memorable experience. The grandeur of the building and its elegant interior immediately set the tone for something special. As expected, there was a queue to get in, which speaks to its popularity and reputation. Despite the wait, the atmosphere outside was buzzing with anticipation, and once inside, the staff made the experience feel worthwhile. From the moment I stepped through the doors, the staff were very welcoming—warm smiles and attentive service created a sense of hospitality that matched the café’s luxurious setting. Check-in and seating were handled smoothly, and I felt well looked after. It did take around half an hour for my order to arrive, which was a little longer than expected. However, the staff remained attentive throughout, checking in and making sure I was comfortable. The wait gave me time to soak in the stunning surroundings—the ornate ceilings, chandeliers, and rich décor that make the New York Café famous worldwide. When the food and drinks finally arrived, they were beautifully presented and delicious, living up to the café’s reputation. The combination of the welcoming staff, the iconic atmosphere, and the quality of the food made the visit feel like more than just a meal—it was an experience. Overall, while the wait time for the order could be improved, the charm of the staff and the breathtaking setting more than compensated. I would recommend the New York Café to anyone visiting Budapest who wants to enjoy not just a coffee, but a slice of history in one of the most beautiful cafés in the world.
Ebbie A — Google review
I recently visited New York Café in Budapest, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The moment I stepped inside, I was amazed by the breathtaking interior — the elegant architecture, stunning ceilings, and beautifully detailed décor make you feel like you’ve entered a palace rather than a café. It’s easily one of the most impressive and atmospheric places I’ve ever visited. The service was excellent as well. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and very professional, making sure everything was perfect throughout my visit. Despite how busy the café can be, they handled everything with great efficiency and care. I ordered coffee and dessert, and both were absolutely delicious. The presentation was elegant, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. It’s clear that they prioritize quality in every detail, from the ingredients to the overall experience. New York Café is not just a place to eat or drink — it’s a unique experience that combines history, beauty, and great service. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest. It’s definitely worth the visit!
7ORUN — Google review
Absolutely stunning café, worth visiting for the atmosphere alone. The New York Café truly lives up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful cafés in the world. The architecture is jaw-dropping: gold accents, marble columns, and frescoed ceilings make you feel like you’re dining in a royal palace. I went early in the morning to avoid the queue, and that made a big difference. The staff were polite, though service was a bit slow, understandable given how busy it gets. I ordered the Blueberry cheesecake sundae. It was delicious, but it’s the ambience that really steals the show. Prices are on the higher side, but you’re paying for the experience. Live music added a nice touch, and the whole place felt like a step back in time. Tip: Go early or late to avoid long waits. No reservations during the day, so be prepared to queue if you arrive during peak hours. Would I go again? Yes, for the atmosphere and dessert. It’s a must-see if you’re in Budapest, even if just for coffee and photos.
Kelvin W — Google review
We had a fantastic experience at the stunning New York Cafe. The queue looked huge when we joined, but it moved very quickly and we were seated within 15 minutes. The building itself is exquisite inside and out - ornate, luxurious and decadent. There are hundreds of tables, plenty of staff and service is quick. A string quartet was playing during our visit, and it made for a fabulous atmosphere. The menu is on the pricey side, but the quality and presentation of the food and drink makes it worth while. We ordered 2 luxury hot chocolates and 2 desserts, and the total was around €60. Definitely recommended when visiting Budapest.
Sarah D — Google review
Reviewing the cafe, not the hotel. Definitely worth visiting at least once in your life, because it’s an experience. The interior is astonishing. Though, I recommend setting realistic expectations before going - for instance, I wouldn’t order proper meal here, but to stop for a coffee it might make sense. Also, I didn’t understand why they charged service fee and then when paying they asked to choose additional tip on top, and the lowest possibility was still 5%. I believe if you already were charged for the service with the bill, tipping should be optional.

Déryné is a two-floor brasserie in Budapest that offers a blend of Hungarian and French cuisine. Situated at the foot of Castle Hill, it is one of the oldest restaurants in the Buda districts. The restaurant features an in-house bakery, a garden, and daily piano performances. While not the most budget-friendly option, Déryné provides a unique dining experience with its French-influenced Hungarian dishes and an extensive wine selection.
The place is charming, large, with a variety of indoor and outdoor seating options for all tastes. It's luxurious, so don't do as I did and come well dressed. The food is delicious with good, fresh ingredients and freshly prepared. The service is very friendly and very professional. The price is in line with the quality of the place; you should come with a full wallet.

I really wanted to give this restaurant a 5 — and trust me, I’m holding on to that last star so tightly! This spot was recommended by a friend, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for a great evening. The waiter greeted us warmly and reassured us they’d find us a table, which they did without any hassle. The atmosphere was absolutely spectacular — beautiful, elegant, and with a sexy charm. A DJ was playing in the background, adding to the vibe without being intrusive. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating, each space beautifully designed with dim romantic lighting, warm wood accents, and plants woven into the decor. We chose to sit outside and it was perfect. We turned to Google Maps for food suggestions and ended up ordering the eggplant schnitzel as a starter and the veal escalope for our main. The portions were generous, the presentation was excellent, and the quality of the food truly stood out. Everything was full of flavor and thoughtfully prepared. To top it off, they welcomed us with complimentary bread, olive oil, and thyme — and ended the meal with delicious Hungarian bubbles on the house. It’s those extra touches that really make a difference. A special shoutout to Martin, our waiter, who was incredibly helpful and added so much warmth to our experience. We highly recommend this place — it’s absolutely worth the visit!

Truly an incredible meal. I've eaten at a lot of good places and this is top 5 if not the best. This place should have a Michelin star. Every dish was phenomenal, words really can't describe how perfect everything was. This is fine dining at the highest level. It's tied together with incredible service. Our server Matte was on point and really sets an example of how a server should command the whole meal and delivery

After a disappointing visit some time ago, I decided to give Déryné another chance and I’m so happy I did! I completely fell in love with this place again. The food is delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Every time I’ve been back, the experience has been excellent. The service is also 10/10: each time we were served by different waiters, and every one of them was kind and attentive. They paid attention to every little detail and made us feel truly welcomed. The atmosphere and decoration make it such a warm, cozy, and elegant place to be. It’s one of my favorite spots in Budapest, and I always look forward to going back. I recently celebrated my birthday here, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Overall, Déryné has completely won me back. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing vibe. One of the best places in town!

Everything about Déryné is just perfect. I would give this restaurant 10/10. The food we ordered were a beef steak (dry aged chuck steak from local), octopus ceviche and jamon serrano. Our server Kristof recommended us with local wines to pair with, which were all amazing. I will definitely recommend this place to those who are looking for a great place to wine and dine! Such an amazing vegan restaurant we ate here 3 times on our Budapest trip and were impressed every time. Such good menu options including gluten free. Affordable prices, great service and such amazing food! Must visit for vegans in Budapest!

I had been here today for dinner. I'm not sure if this is intended to be a fine dining experience, but it felt like one in every way. Warm staff, quick service, delicious and satiating food and a cosy atmosphere. They have a crazy range of vegan desserts and pasteries (including Hungarian specialities) as well as a bunch of traditional hungarian stews, soups and kolozsvar — but all vegan! I ordered the Hungarian Bean Goulash Soup and a dobos tortazelet (desert), both of which are hungarian specialities. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to have an authentic Hungarian culinary experience! The best part is that they're open even on Hungarian national holidays!
Bhairavi G — Google review
Very cute and classy-feeling restaurant. The staff were very kind but the music being shut off at 9:00 on the dot feels a bit hostile. I had the platter which was quite tasty, but the bean goulash was definitely the standout of the night! The desserts, thought plentiful in options, were lacking a bit in flavour - perhaps it was just the ones we chose. They also do not serve alcohol.

We had been to this restaurant as soon as we landed in Budapest and we had an amazing lunch here… I was very impressed for offering so many vegan options… We ordered Pad Thai and Falafel platter and it tasted delicious. So we had to return the next day to try more and we ordered their daily specials and it was yummy as well!:) The portions size is also very generous and the restaurant offers very reasonable price… Service is very polite and english friendly and the place is very clean and tidy… Highly recommendable…!!
Spoorthi H — Google review
Very cute little cafe and restaurant serving a variety of food from vegan takes on classic Hungarian dishes to pad Thai, gyros and falafel. We had the sharing plate which meant we didn't have to choose from the extensive menu and could try a bit of everything and fill up on some protein. For those looking for a lighter bite there are zucchini noodles dishes and salads on offer too. Drinks are varied but I believe they may all be non-alcoholic. We had the virgin mojito. For those searching for a treat the cage has an incredible range of exquisite cakes and also a variety of ice cream. Service was impeccable. Background music was 90s hits via the saxophone which felt extremely retro but quite fun.

Food is average. Potatoes are from frozen bags and are dry inside, the flavor is barely there. Falafel is also very dry. Seitan is also barely seasoned and it doesn’t taste so good. We expected more looking at the opinions. The best was goulash.

Tucked away in the heart of Budapest, Hoppácska is a whimsical paradise filled with quirky artifacts and mind-boggling oddities. The eclectic decor features mismatched furniture, peculiar posters, and a ceiling that looks like it was painted by acrobatic monkeys. This hidden gem offers reinvented chimney cakes with unconventional toppings, both sweet creams and savory delicacies. The menu changes weekly, offering three salty and two sweet combinations on edible plates made of lukewarm chimney cake.
We tried the Chimney Burger and the double sweet chimney with poppyseed, vanilla walnut, and raspberry. The poppyseed wasn’t too sweet which we loved (we got used to the seedy-ness), and the raspberry was delightfully light and flavorful with real chunks of raspberry! The owner was so kind to us and gave us plenty of recommendations and explained some Hungarian culture surrounding the flavors. It was a great, small meal!

This is my absolute favourite place in all of Ráday Street. Service is extremely friendly and impeccable, they treat you like family here! Their food is outstanding, one of the best meat patties in the hamburger in all of Budapest! Love these guys, their energy and most importantly their sumptuous food!

Originality is what attracted me here at first, as I never ate savoury Kurtöskalacz before. I had the one with duck and red cabbage and it was really amazing. Great experience. The staff was also very friendly and helpful, which was compensating for the slightly unclear display of the menu (lacking the sides for example or not really explaining the sizes properly). I also had a sweet Kurtöskalacz there, and even if it wasn't the best I ever had it was still very good. The issue with Kurtöskalacz is always that if you prepare them in advance they get dry very fast. This place definitely prepares them in advance but then coats them with a kind if syrup, preserving a bit of it's moisture, so partially compensating for the natural drying of the Kalacz with time. All in all, still a great experience.

We had a reservation and we got a table immediately. Unfortunately my coffee wasn't very hot. Food was quite good. I also had smoked salmon. It was probably the cheapest salmon you can buy in a shop, very light, pale and unfortunately there were a few bones in it, which has never happened to me before. My boyfried had bacon, which was completely cold, fried in advance. We wanted a croissant but it was gone at 9:30. So I had a banana bread. It wasn’t very good. My first homemade banana was better. We won’t come back. There are bettter restaurants for breakfast in Budapest.

Daubner is a letdown despite the hype. The waiting line is incredibly long and chaotic, with no clear system, and the staff isn’t particularly friendly. Always a long queue in that place. They should make the serving somehow simpler (I'm not sure how, but where there is a will there's a way). They have nothing at all sugar free product (people who have diabetes). I think it would be a nice gesture to have one cake on the menu for them. Anyway, the quality is exceptional, but I think it needs some improvement here and there, hence is only 4 stars.

What can I say, it's an incredible bakery with amazing and unique cakes to Hungary. The variety they had was overwhelming, you could've spent several days, and you would still not be done trying all the cakes. Everything went very fast when you were ordering, they also had a lot of different flavours of ice creams. We got Pogácsa and a few different slices of cake and the cakes were very light and super tasty and the Pogcása were the star of the show. It is a bit outside, but it was a smooth ride to get there. Make sure to go here to get some pastries and cakes while in Budapest.

Mákos Guba Bistro is a charming eatery that offers traditional Hungarian desserts like the delightful Mákos Guba, a sweet pudding made with layers of white bread soaked in a creamy poppy seed sauce. This popular treat is often enjoyed alongside vanilla custard and is a staple at Magyar festive feasts. The bistro also serves up other Hungarian classics such as Goulash soup and oven-cooked cottage cheese pasta.
My second visit after three years. And again it was really good! The waiter was on the spot. Chicken paprikash didn’t disappoint again. Definitely would recommend!
Jonas A — Google review
Pork fillets were good but only three slices. Chick legs were in good portion but a bit dried in terms of the taste. Soup was good although only three pieces of beef chunks that were slightly under par in terms of the taste. The vibe was good in general and provided us with ok experience. Maybe not the right dishes that I ordered this time!

Was looking for a place to taste Hungarian cuisine, and it’s definitely the right one! The portions are huge, the personnel is very friendly and approachable, and the service is really quick. We have ordered goulash and cottage-cheese pasta - were very delicious. Strongly recommended.

Absolutely amazing lunch! The paprikás csirke was perfectly cooked, true comfort food. And the mákosguba for dessert was fantastic, soft and full of poppy seed. A real Hungarian treat and the service was super friendly as well!

This place is really cozy. I asked the barista to make me a coffee in my cup which I just have bought in the parliament. And he did it. 🧡 The cake was tasty. The design of the room is pleasant, as the music as well.

My new favourite artisan/vegan coffee/cake shop in Pest, hands down! They have this amazing thing called sweet gorilla, i would discribe it as an in-house brewed (coffee and cocoa) mocha. Its the best, creamiest, cleanest and smoothest tasting amazing chocolaty coffee creation, that i can just not get out of my head. I loved the name so we had to order it cold (for me) and hot (for my partner) both were exceptional. I also appreciated the glass straw mine was served with. We tried the vegan ice-creams, i liked the mango best. We also sampled kne cake on the premises (strawberry matcha - was very good) and took a box of 4 home to try - the round raspberry was my fav, everyone loved the fusia punk one, the chai latte caramel is very good if you like those flavours. And the tiramisù for me was a bit too nutty tasting but still good. Service is very meticulous, helpful and friendly so just ask fir recommendations when you are there. Absolute must for all to take a photo on the hanging-trunk swing inside! Note: at the moment they are open from Thursday to Sunday only.

Loved everything I had here, especially sugar free coconut ice cream. So good. If you're not sure what to have, give it a try. The pistachio one was okay, not really to my liking. Matcha-mango pie was also really good, refreshing and not too sweet.

It is a nice, friendly place. However, it is good to book a table in advance. We’ve been there for a brunch on a Sunday at 10 o’clock, but we could keep the table until 11:30. The other day (average Monday, around 11 am) there was a queue of 2 ppl in front of the store, so I couldn't even get in to check what they have in stock... I was in a rush, I wanted a quick bite, a small gf pastry that I can have while we were walking to our destination, but I was told to go to the end of the queue. 😄 I left as there are many other 100% gluten free bakeries in Budapest, I just wanted to try out this place too as we were in the area. I am sure they have lovely products, but waiting in front of the store without even knowing what's inside...? No way.

Staff was friendly and tried to talk to me in English. Tried the gluten-free raisin bread and it’s delicious and has a good texture like normal bread (I wasn’t intolerant before.) A great and recommended place to enjoy a coffee and a chimney cake in the area. The staff was friendly and very helpful when we asked for restaurant recommendations. Coffee was good. Wonderful restaurant. It is nice to have the opportunity to try local cuisine in a vegan/vegetarian form. The dishes were excellent and very tasty. The servers were very courteous and helpful in explaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We only wished we had more opportunity to try other dishes. Definitely a must visit for someone vegetarian trying to get a taste of local food.

Wow wow wow the food was really good. I came with my non vegan boyfriend and he enjoyed the food as well. But what we enjoyed the most is Patric our waiter. He was really nice!!!! And gave us good wine recommendations and he was really professional. There was another waitress who was very nice as well. I really recommend.

Went here twice during our visit to Budapest. My party tried a variety of foods, the pictures attached are what I had. This restaurant is great if you are vegan and you would like to try some Hungarian food while in Budapest. Pictured are bean goulash, mushroom stew, and a Hungarian cottage cheese dessert. There are also schnitzels, pizzas, cream cakes, and plenty of other foods available on the menu. The food was fresh and tasty, my only reservation would be that it is rather pricey. Also probably best to make a reservation as the place was full both nights that we went - for good reason! Staff are polite, there are toilet facilities available, and it is in a good location.

We had a delicious vegan meal and drinks here. The atmosphere, decor and food were all beautiful. We were also served by a great waiter (wish we got his name! Young man, blue eyes and I think blondish hair, working lunch time on 3rd October 2025), who was funny, attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

We visited Vegan Garden today and tried the Vegan Brassoi and the Mushroom Paprikash, both recommended by our waiter. In fact the Vegan Brassoi should have had tomato sauce, pea etc which we could not see(certainly did not look like the picture on their menu).Unfortunately, we found the taste of both dishes a bit bland, which was disappointing as we had high expectations from the reviews we had read of the restaurant . The staff, however, was great, our waiters were efficient and served with a smile. While we would not order these two dishes again, we would be willing to return to try other items on the menu.
Mahesh G — Google review
The most amazing vegan restaurant in the whole city -- maybe even the best vegan food I've ever had!!!!! Everything was fresh and delicious -- the cream cake and the lavender lemonade are what dreams are made of!!!! We loved it so much we went twice!! Ordered totally different things for each visit and was blown away by it all. Bravo, VEGAN GARDEN!!!
Abbie S — Google review
I was really excited to discover the thriving vegan food scene in Budapest. It meant I could enjoy traditional Hungarian dishes reinvented as vegetarian or vegan recipes. I showed up late on a Saturday night without a reservation, but luckily they still had tables available. The waiters were a bit slow taking orders—probably because the place was pretty busy—but that’s understandable. I tried the goulash, and it was delicious! The Hungarian cream cake was tasty too, but honestly, it was way too rich and creamy for me to finish on my own. Definitely a dessert meant for two or three people to share. All in all, it’s a great spot if you’re looking for good vegan food in Budapest.

I went to this cafe with 2 friends because I have to eat gluten free. It is such a cute little cafe with upstairs seating. The cakes (belga csoki, nutella cheesecake and cherry cake) tasted amazing! I will definitely come back. This place is a celiac's dream!

Absolutely adorable little cake spot. I had what I assume was a chocolate moose cake. And for being gluten and sugar free, it fulfilled my cravings. So light and delish! It could have been more chocolatey, but it was very good. And the price I paid seemed reasonable. The girl didn’t speak much English, but she was still pleasant and did her best to communicate. They serve cake by the slice as well as gelato.

Tucked away behind Andrassy street, this is a sweet little "cukraszda" (cake shop) that specialises in a wide range of sugar free (xylitol, erithritol, stevia) cakes many of which are also dairy and gluten free and some of them paleo. The paleo was good. My favourite was the apricot with "cream cheese" as it featured two complimentary layers of cream cheese with rice bits and spinge with nuts. Unlike some diet / vegan cafes like Naspolya which use very high quality ingredients that are mostly bio and sourced from abroad, unsurprisingly, there's some compromise at these low prices but it'd still recommend the place.

Tucked away in the heart of Budapest, just a stone’s throw from the majestic Danube River and the bustling tram lines, lies a quaint bakery that feels like a slice of home. This boutique pastry shop, with its warm, family-oriented atmosphere, invites locals and travelers alike to indulge in a delightful array of baked goods. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, a testament to the shop’s commitment to quality and tradition. The selection is commendable, offering a variety of treats that cater to both traditional Hungarian tastes and international palates. While the shop exudes charm, visitors might find themselves a tad bewildered if not fluent in Hungarian. The English language barrier can present a momentary puzzle, but the staff’s hospitality and the universal language of delicious food quickly bridge any gaps in communication. This central Budapest bakery is a worth visiting. Its proximity to the Danube and the city’s sights makes it an ideal stop for a sweet respite. Despite the language hurdle, the experience is overwhelmingly positive, leaving you with a taste of Hungary’s rich culinary heritage and the warmth of its people.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful treat that embodies both tradition and flavor, look no further than the Chimney Cake shop. This iconic Hungarian pastry, known as "kur-tus-skol-ach," is a must-try whether you're lounging at the beach in summer or exploring festive Christmas markets in winter. With its origins tracing back to Transylvania and possibly even ancient Greece, this sweet delight features dough that's crispy on the outside yet fluffy within.
This shop is located right on the main shopping street in the center of Budapest. There are many places selling this pastry, but both the chimney cake and the ice cream I tried are tasty and quite sweet, sharing one between two people is more than enough.
Phuong N — Google review
Well, we had to have at least one time when we were here. This type of delectable mouthwatering treat must always be consumed while on vacation. We stopped into this shop after dinner and the line was not that bad, but still it would have helped if there were more people working. The staff members were polite, but not overly friendly. This was probably due to the number of people they had to serve, which can wear you down. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and a restroom inside for customers. As for ice cream, it’s ice cream, and who doesn’t like ice cream, which makes the world a better place.

Over priced over sweet over rated cones with Nutella and tons of whipped cream for about 2,900 each … If u crave sugar then don’t hesitate and you can expect to burn out the calories by 2027 if lucky - lol

Nice little shop in the middle of the city, just near the ferry wheel. Love the chimney cake here. We chose the one with cinnamon outside and apple cinnamon stuffing inside.

The chimney cake shop at Deák in Budapest offers freshly made, warm, and delicious kürtőskalács with various flavors and toppings. The aroma is inviting, and the staff are friendly. It’s a perfect spot for a quick, authentic Hungarian treat while exploring the city center.

By far the best and the sweetest desserts in Budapest. You can take out or sit outside and enjoy your treat. We chose two with delicious ice cream.

Bad service, The blonde girl working at the store was very rude. We simply asked if they had white chocolate, and she replied disrespectfully that they only have what’s shown in the picture. Then she started talking to her coworker about us. Very unprofessional behavior!!!!

Szerelmes Levél (Pékműhely) is a delightful bakery on Lovohaz utca that offers a variety of pastries and baguettes. The bread here has a crisp texture, is compact, and has a subtle tanginess. It can be enjoyed alone or as part of a sandwich. This artisanal bakery is reasonably priced and highly regarded by locals.
Happen to pop in last week, got a goat cheese, an other cheesy one, some jam pastries, all exceptional! My friends usually go for the "felbarna" bread, very good bread! Well done. A super nice young woman served me, huge credit to her.
Giga B — Google review
Good as the other branches, but coffee is more expensive for some reason. They have a nice huge table where everyone sits and eats the newly grabbed bakery, making the atmosphere inside very cozy.
Aliya R — Google review
Baked goods are great but on the expensive side. I mentioned this to the sales person, a woman with dark hair, and she flipped out. She became offensive saying things like “this is not the Albanian bakery” and “don’t talk to me, I don’t care what you say”, and when I said how horrible her reaction was, she tried to ridiculed me for complaining about her attitude. Definately not suited for customer service!
Piros J — Google review
Tasty savory twists, and good coffee. Morose service, but that’s the Budapest default, so don’t take it personally. No trays. No iced coffee. No smile.

Amazing bakery and also very popular among locals. Rich flavours, quality ingredients, nice service. Not much space to sit around but perfect for a grab 'n' go. They have booth sweet and salty options, 4-5 each usually and a couple of kinds of breads too.

The best Hungarian pastry I've had in the city. I love this company, they have recently opened some new locations too. My favourite are the different sweet rolls, and the gorgonzola cheese filled pastry. The prices are very reasonable too, you can have an excellent breakfast under 1000 forints (3-4€). Note that the last time I've been here, they only accepted cash.

The Aquincum Hotel Budapest is a refined lodging located on the Buda side of the Danube River. It features elegant rooms with modern amenities and access to an exclusive lounge in the Executive Room. The hotel is close to attractions such as Vasarely Museum and Hungarian Museum of Trade & Tourism. Additionally, it offers a thermal spa with healing waters.
Highly recommend it. Very nice hotel, good food for the breakfast buffet, many options. The pool area is really nice and relaxing, there are 4 different pools, a 27⁰ regular pool, then a 30⁰ and 34⁰ relaxing pools and a jacuzzi with saunas for male and females seperate. There is also a gym, but not many options in it, just the basics. The massages are also good, and you can also take mus baths or get different variety of massages. Would recommend.
Allusura — Google review
Upon arrival, the first thing I had to do was clean the toilet myself, as it was sticky and covered in dust. The bathroom floor was visibly unclean, with strands of hair and sticky residues throughout. While the bed linens were at least clean, the overall condition of the hotel left much to be desired. The property is clearly old, which in itself would not be a problem if cleanliness were maintained to a reasonable standard — unfortunately, it is not. The floor in the reception area was dirty, and the same applied to the pool area. During my stay, I did not once see any staff performing cleaning duties. In the morning, while sitting in the pool (advertised as being 30°C), I noticed debris and dirt floating on the surface. The pool stairs were similarly unclean, with visible buildup in the corners. The fact that the hotel is dated does not justify the lack of hygiene. This establishment does not meet the expectations or standards of a 4-star hotel. Despite numerous reviews mentioning the same concerns — lack of cleanliness, outdated furniture, and stained carpets — no noticeable improvements appear to have been made. Additional issues included a dirty room door that seemed untouched for months, a mirror covered in spots, and a malfunctioning bathroom drain. In summary, cleanliness and maintenance are significantly below what should be expected at this rating level. I hope management takes the consistent feedback seriously and implements the necessary changes.

We were warmly and professionally welcomed by the young receptionist, which made for a perfect start to our stay. The spa area is very well maintained and wonderfully relaxing. Special thanks to Daniel and David at the River Bar – they are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always in high spirits. They truly are the heart of the bar and made us feel so well taken care of. The food was outstanding. Overall, a fantastic stay – we can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel! We Stay in Room 150

Absolutely loved this hotel. Couldn't fault it. The pool area was just divine. So relaxing with warm/hot pools and jacuzzi/sauna. We dined in the hotel bar most evenings of our 9 night stay and the food and service were outstanding. Orsolya Dósa allocated us a great room with river view & twin beds, as requested. Vilmos Kubicsek was very attentive, friendly and anticipated our every need. Nikoletta and our regular waiter (pictured here with us, missed his name sorry) made each mealtime something to look forward to. Huge thanks to all involved. We loved EVERY second of our stay with you.

We were very happy during our stay in this hotel. The staff was absolutely amazing, kind, polite, and sweet. River Bar with the best drinks and service during our whole stay. The spa is wonderful, with two pools, jacuzzi, sauna, and a gym that my boyfriend enjoyed very much as I did with the Aphrodite Bar. We will be back for sure.
Maria P — Google review
The hotel is very conveniently located, well connected for travelers by car or public transportation. Our room was spotless clean, however the design is a bit outdated, both in the room and bathroom. We didnt go to the spa, although wanted to check it out, maybe next time. All in all a pleasant stay.
Virág A — Google review
I’ve stayed in the hotel several times because it’s close to our office in Budapest. The previous times that I went the staff was lovely and there were no issues. This time it was different. When checking in there was only 1 person at the front desk and there was a line of 4 people (including me); it took a while and we were in a rush for a work dinner. We shared with the lady at the desk that we are pressed by time but she didn’t bother to look for a colleague, or see if the other guests would let us check in first, etc. There were no shampoo, shower gel and conditioner in the room. The water wasn’t draining properly in the bath either. I reported this at the front desk and asked if they could refill these. They reassured me they would but then when I tried to shower again (the following morning), I saw the conditioner and gel weren’t refilled at all and the shampoo just a little… The fridge wasn’t cooling off. Last but not least, they contacted me via chatbot in WhatsApp to remind me to check out (the day before I was scheduled to check out). Poor strategy. It just irritated me and made me feel they can’t wait for me to leave. It would have been much more appropriate to contact me prior to my arrival, etc. All in all - compared to other times, it’s been a subpar experience. Hope this feedback is taken in a productive way, as the only reason for me to leave it is because I like the hotel and would like it to maintain its quality. Thank you!
Gloriya H — Google review
This is an unsatisfied experience First of I wanna start with the good things. - the hotel location is fine, the reason I give it 3 is beacuse there isnt a lot close by. - the spa area is nice and the people very nice. The food is incredible though The bad things - the service overall is very bad, since they told us we didnt have free use of the bar and drinks, we paid for everything and on the last day they said we have free use, after we paid so many times, so their mistake is hugely unappreciated - we got room cleaning without nobody cleaning the bathroom, just sweep the floors a bit -one guy we asked if he knew what was behind a door in the room, and he said he had no idea. How do you not know when you work there? This hotel is kinda lame imo

Nestled in the picturesque City Park of Budapest, right next to the Capital Circus, you'll discover Édes Mackó, a charming chimney cake shop that stands out as the only place in the city serving this traditional treat roasted over charcoal throughout the year. This delightful family-run business, operated by Vitez Kurtos, hails from Szekely Land—the birthplace of chimney cake.
The only place that I found who served gluten-free chimney cake and it's delicious. And the regular version is by far the best chimney cake in Budapest. Located next to the zoo.
Daniel B — Google review
I recently tried the chimney cake from the cafe, and it was a delightful experience! Freshly made in just 10 minutes, each flavor was a treat. I sampled the pistachio, chocolate, and apricot, and all were incredibly delicious—rich and satisfying. The variety offered is impressive, making it hard to choose just one. The price is reasonable for such a quality dessert, but I did find the paper costing nearly 600 HUF a bit unfriendly. Overall, though, the chimney cake is definitely worth trying for anyone with a sweet tooth! Highly recommended!

Definitely a must try even if you are not a fan of Kürtőskalács, they have a remarkable amount of varieties so you can taste them the way you like the most, price is not cheap, however considering the product and the results it is worthy, specially if you consider you can easily pay the same amount for average or disappointing ones on the city center.

Truly amazing bakery located in the centre of Budapest, but in a quieter area. The flat white tastes better than other bakery shops I have been so far in Budapest, so as the pastries. They also have sourdough but they don't slice the bread for their customers. But all the all, the pastries and the coffee are really good, so as the very reasonable price.

This is not a pain au chocolat! While they sell it as one! I have been going there since a couple of years ago, but last week I was extremely disappointed. The pain au chocolat has been always very original and delicious. But recently they have changed the recipe and not only it's not original but it also tastes bad 😣 the layers were extremely heavy, not buttery as the original good quality recipe. There was a weird thing around what they sold as pain au chocolate which was soaked with a sweet syrup 😰 you can see the texture, the weird coating and the sticky syrup o the photo. They commented on my post that the picture is not of a pain au chocolat and I agree! The problem is that they sold this as pain au chocolat, it was old, soaked is syrup and extremely sweet . I also checked on Wolt, they have removed the pain au chocolat from their offers.

Kind teams but the food is really not good. The bread of the sandwich was dry and the garnish was not tasty at all. One exception was the thona fish sandwich which was incredibly salty. Never again.
Bruno B — Google review
The supposedly French-inspired "baguette" with french flour and hipster sourdough starter tastes like a Frenchman's tears. Poorly baked, much too much dough inside, and probably baked a good 12 hours earlier. This is what supermarket bread tastes like in France, not what bakery bread tastes like.

If you're in Budapest during the holiday season, make sure to visit the Christmas markets and festivals to try the traditional chimney cakes known as Street Cakes. Originating from Transylvania, these oversized kurtoskalacs cakes are baked over an open fire and coated with a variety of flavors such as cinnamon, freeze-dried blueberry, or dried ginger.
Such an awesome place. The workers are really friendly and the place is very cozy. The chimney cakes were so delicious omg. Tip: instead of a syrup topping, get a nutella filling, totally worth it.

We went in search for this place which, to be honest, wasn’t as good as I had envisioned. After seeing lost of people trying it out we figured it must be really good. It took quite a while to get our desserts to arrive and when they did the ice cream had already started to melt. I ended up trying to eat an almost empty casing with a pool of ice cream gathering at the bottom. They also got my boyfriends order wrong, however they did offer to make him a new one so great customer service in that front. Nice place with friendly staff, but maybe not worth rushing across town for.

Chimney cakes are not usually filled, but here they offer you the chance to create a custom chimney. The ice cream is ok, the cake is also ok. It's worth a try, but I prefer the normal type of chimney cake.

It was okay. It looked very pretty, but the ice cream quality wasn't great, and the cakes were bland and a bit stale. I didn't expect them to be hot because the ice cream would melt, but they just weren't great. Slightly overpriced for what you get, but it makes for a nice picture.

Chimney Cake Budapest, also known as kurtoskalacs, is a traditional Hungarian dessert that features a caramelized crust and a soft, chewy interior. The dough is wrapped around a baking spit and cooked over charcoal. This sweet treat can be found at the Chimney Cake Shop in Kiraly street, close to Deak Ferenc square. In addition to the traditional version, they offer special varieties filled with ice cream that are lactose-free.
We got addicted to this chimney cake! Absolutely no ideia why the rate is so low but we had really warm and fresh chimney cakes every time.
Beatriz C — Google review
Very very cute place with swings inside for sitting. Girl at counter knew English well. The downside is the chimney cakes were very hard even when cooked fresh. They came out steaming hot but we're hard. Payed 2000 ft which was a bit overpriced. The chimneys in the metro were 100x better.
Mirko M — Google review
Chimney Cake Budapest is a nice spot to try this popular Hungarian treat. The cakes are usually pre-made, so the freshness and warmth can vary depending on when you get them. While they might not be piping hot every time, they still make for a tasty and enjoyable snack. The location is convenient and the staff are friendly, making it an easy stop if you want something sweet while exploring the city. The cakes have a good balance of crispy outside and soft inside, though there are definitely other places in Budapest where you can find chimney cakes that feel a bit fresher or more freshly baked. Overall, it’s a decent choice if you want a quick, sweet bite, but it’s not the absolute best chimney cake experience you can find. Four stars for a solid snack that’s convenient and pleasant, but there are better spots if you’re looking for top quality.
Emanuele F — Google review
The almond chimney was ok but I think I should’ve tried the cone with ice cream version! Ah well always a next time I visit Budapest! Can pay with credit card
D. R — Google review
I walked by and was hooked. I ordered a cone with vanilla ice cream and it was warm and delicious. The next day I came on purpose because I really enjoyed it last night. There were a lot of people and I told myself that my superior was right. I waited patiently and it was my turn. I asked for exactly what I had ordered the day before. Instead, the salesman made me chocolate ice cream. When I said he was wrong, he simply threw the cake in the trash and said he wouldn't sell it to me. According to the reviews, it turns out that this is the nature of their service!
Alexander K — Google review
Super quick service and cake was nice and warm - can’t complain! We had gone further up the street for chimney cake and they had ran out, so this definitely saved the day :)
Caitlin — Google review
Have never had a chimney cake before so cannot compare but this was warm - the ice cream was very watery but I didn’t really care.

Domi’s Kitchen Factory is a local bake shop in Budapest known for its delicious homemade sweets and friendly staff. While the physical store is closed, they offer cake delivery with a wide variety of treats at reasonable prices. The interior is charming with attention to detail, and the staff provides positive and kind service. Customers recommend trying the raspberry cheesecake and sugar/gluten-free mango cheesecake. Although seating inside is limited, there's more available outside where blankets are provided.
Great tasty brunch, gently and smiley service, and very good prices! recommended!
Klearchos K — Google review
Really nice little spot in the heart of Budapest. They have a big variety of foods and drinks for reasonable prices. There’s not a lot of seating inside, however much more outside. They do offer blankets for outside. The staff is very friendly. The hot chocolate wasn’t really hot or warm. Most of the cutlery was dirty and we had to clean it ourselves.
Tata — Google review
Nice, quiet place with pretty cakes. Unfortunately the taste is not so good, it's flat and "just" sweet. I ordered cake with popcorn looking for some new texture and saltiness, but came out disappointed and with half of a piece not finished because of how sweet it was. Too bad! I hope that they will balance the flavors better in the future because the place is really nice and there is card payment avaliable (which is sadly not a standard in many Hungarian locals).
Urszula K — Google review
A lovely local bake shop! The interior is full of small details here and there, the staff is very friendly, positive, and kind. The homemade sweets are delicious and (by my modest opinion) worth a bit more than you’re paying for. I loved the raspberry cheesecake even tho I’m not a fan of raspberries. I went on and tried a sugar and gluten free mango cheesecake - delicious! Tips aren’t included, so be sure to bring some local currency; the service and the cakes are more than worth it.

Great coffee and beautiful cakes. You can see them being made too! Great little find in Budapest.

Girlfriend and I were so lucky to find this gem. Made pancakes better than I ever had them, and they can fit all dietary needs. Locally run and everything tastes homemade. This should be your go to breakfast place in Budapest.

Amber's French Bakery & Cafe is a delightful gem nestled in Budapest's bustling Fovam Square, right by the iconic Great Market Hall. Inspired by the owner's travels through France, this charming establishment combines a bakery, bistro, and cafe to offer an array of delectable pastries and traditional Hungarian cakes. The inviting atmosphere welcomes guests with stunning baked goods that are sure to catch your eye.
Delicious cakes with a wide variety of choices at affordable prices.
Ayshan H — Google review
I had one of the worst hot chocolates I've ever tasted here—it was so bad I couldn’t take more than a sip. It lacked flavor and was far from enjoyable. On the bright side, the pastries were decent, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, a disappointing experience, especially considering the high expectations set by the cafe's ambiance. Wouldn’t recommend the hot chocolate at all.
Diva S — Google review
Don’t expect to be able to order what’s on the menu photos for the prices on the photos. They add extras for what you see and refer to the menu as just ”illustrations” which don’t correlate to the price tags on the illustrations. ”Because this is Hungary” is the explanation with a rude and sharp tone, even though I’ve never ever seen this practice anywhere else in Hungary.
Erik A — Google review
Very nice cafe with wide variety of cakes and pastries. Though not five star tastiness, the price definitely makes this place worth it. The design and atmosphere of the place is great too!
Samuel C — Google review
It's okay if you are a tourist passing by. Though there are much better places for breakfast within 5 minutes walk. Location is good, service was okay for me, interior is nice but for this quality Amber's is overpriced. I had a raisins roll - it was delicious -, a croissant - sadly overbaked, there was plenty of butter in the pastry yet it was dry - and a flat white. Well, the flat white was a disappointment: single espresso with overheated milk. While it was made a barrista died in France. :'( Back to the furnishing: when you try to be fancy, looking prestigious, a burnt out light bulb will be a magnet for the attention. Overall there is room for improvement, and it was not bad at all. It's just an average overpriced café.
Bálint K — Google review
An excellent place to sample iced coffee and apple pie. Elegant seating allows you s bird’s eye view of the Allee shopping centre, one of the city’s smartest places to shop.

Nice place with france vibes. Perfect coffes and a wide range of beautiful desserts. Salads and sandwiches are also available. Litte bit expensive, but great quality!

Really good french style bakery. Coffee and croissants were really delicious as well as all the other options they offered. The place seems to be quite touristic but the quality is great and prices are also good and cards are accepted. Overall we had a lovely breakfast and I would definitely recommend and come back to this place when visiting Budapest.

The Box Donut is a delightful twist on the traditional doughnut, offering an array of square-shaped pastries that are as visually appealing as they are delicious. With over 25 unique flavors to choose from, these donuts stand out for their crispy texture and generous cream fillings, avoiding the greasiness often associated with fried treats. Located conveniently near Margaret Bridge and Westend Shopping Centre, this modern franchise is perfect for travelers seeking a quick yet indulgent dessert experience.
These are the BEST doughnuts, I still dream about them all the time! So light and fluffy, they’re absolutely delicious. When friends have visited Budapest, I always recommend they go to The Box Donut during their trip. Can’t wait to go back one day for more doughnuts!! 😍

The Best Square Donut Shop In Budapest! 🇭🇺 We Have Visited This Place Since 2020, And 5 Years Later We’ve Came Back To Try Their Donuts Again. 🍩 The Decorations And The Atmosphere Is Amazing, Wish To Return Again Soon. ❤️
Gary Z — Google review
Visited on a quiet Thursday morning at around 10 am. Absolutely no waiting time. Large variety of delicious square donut, cookies, and drinks too. Their pesto & mozzarella breakfast toastie was a little dry, but the ham, mustard and cheese one was perfect. Their donuts are the best in town. Visited them countless times and the quality is still great, fresh and not too sweet, although a little pricy
Emese P — Google review
I really like this place—the donuts are very tasty. However, there’s one issue that affects the experience recently: the smell. I visited about a month ago and noticed an odor similar to a toilet. I visited again yesterday and the same smell was still there. It might be a problem with the cleaning or water system, but I hope it can be addressed soon.
Serchmaa T — Google review
Excellent location, easily accessible from the 4/6 tram and across the street from Nyugati Train Station. Menus were available in English and Hungarian. Staff was friendly and efficient. Every thing I had tasted delicious. Immediately after opening the door there were 3 steps to enter the restaurant. Order and pick up at the counter, which makes for very efficient service.
Debra S — Google review
Enjoy everything we order and did not regret the calories spent here! Love how both the ice cream bar and the donut were perfect on the sweetness. The donut not only looks pretty, but also taste good! I wasn’t expect the jam in the middle and it definitely added more texture, flavor in the donut. Will be back again!
Travelbug — Google review
Good coffee. Good pastries. Kind service.
Z. G — Google review
We’ve visited the donut box for brunch. The donuts are very delicious. I am Krispy Kreme donut 🍩 fan but having these while in Budapest I have to say these are far better than Krispy Kreme donuts ! Love how the donuts are square . They also do square shaped bagels 🥯. They look amazing but also taste amazing! Wish we had the donut box here in the UK 🇬🇧 My daughter uses a wheelchair so it was a little tricky to get in as there are stairs as soon as you go through the door. So it takes 2 people to get in one to bring the wheelchair in and the other to support the person with mobility issues. Apart from that, we were really glad to have visited.

BITE bakery café, located near Budapest's Nyugati Train Station, is a popular spot known for its freshly made cinnamon rolls available in small and large sizes. Additionally, the café offers a variety of filled bagels from lunchtime onwards. While some visitors appreciate the delicious food and efficient service, others find the presentation lacking and prices slightly high. Despite this, BITE bakery café remains a convenient option for a quick bite before catching a train.
Food was great and fresh. There is a large selection. We went twice during our visit to Budapest. Cinnamon rolls are a must try. They have several varieties. The matcha drink isn't strong enough, however, for my taste.
Irene L — Google review
Food is tasty, fresh. Stuff is friendly and knows English really good. Cinnamon rolls are tasty. Place opens at 7 which is perfect for early breakfast. The only small concern is the price, as for this type of food is a bit overpriced, but I would say worth it, since I wanted to come a second time.
Yuri — Google review
Solid cinnamon swirls, very fresh and tasty, I only had the regular one but they have a variety. They have a fair amount of seating aswell. I'm not much of a coffee conisoure but the coffee was nice.
SuperRobotMonky — Google review
Not worth the time to come to this coffee shop, servings are super small, you have to be a hobbit to enjoy the amount they give you. I asked for hot milk and it came out lukewarm. It seems to me that most of the coffee franchises in Budapest don’t understand what hot milk entails. Store is at a great location opposite the main train station. Hence the reason for the three stars only.
Jose F — Google review
I didn't like how they served the coffee. If you're going to serve it there, it should be in a regular cup, not a to-go cup; otherwise, I would have ordered it. The food is served on a cardboard box. It's expensive for what you pay, and serving it on cardboard is awful. A homeless person would be better.
Ana S — Google review
Stayed here whilst waiting for the gap between hotel checkout and the time to leave for my flight. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even through my extremely broken Hungarian (those serving me could speak English, but I need practice - sorry!) The apple and cinnamon buns were soft and sweet, one was enough for me this time, but I could see myself ordering multiple given the opportunity. The latte was decently sized for me (although it may be a bit large for some) and went down a treat.
Kyle E — Google review
Best cinnamon rolls in Europe! Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you 👍🏼

You can get the best breakfast bagel in Budapest here: the perfect blend of soft bun, boiled egg, and salty, crispy bacon. There’s just the right amount of sauce — it doesn’t overpower the other flavors. I just wish they had a location on the Buda side too!

Cafe Marcella by Yum-Yum is a charming and intimate café located in the heart of the city. Tucked away on a peaceful street near the Basilikum, this cozy establishment offers a limited yet delightful menu of breakfast options, coffee, and desserts. The attentive staff are exceptionally courteous and helpful. Due to its small size, it is not recommended for large groups, but it provides an ideal setting for couples seeking a romantic dining experience.
It is a lovely place with healthy tasty food. Owner was very sweet and friendly, environment was pleasant, love the little decorations!

Very cosy, really small cafe in the city center, hidden in a quiet street near the Basilikum. It offers a small selection of breakfast, coffee and dessert. The staff was really polite and helpful. As I mentioned before it is a small place so when there are more than five people and everyone is ordering breakfast the waiting time will be longer. That’s why it is not recommended to groups but perfect for couples :) Nevertheless while visiting Budapest remember to put it in your schedule ;)

Delicious and yet healthy cakes, very good coffee, very nice people&service! No desire they wouldn’t fulfill if you want to have a good breakfast, or just relax by a good coffee and a cake! The Coco-cake is highly recommended (no added sugar and gluten-free!) You shouldn’t miss it hanging around the Bazilika Church…

Very good service, coffee, and pastries but a little expensive relative to the standard coffee prices around Budapest. I came here after I walked out of 9 Bar very disappointed with the cappuccino. Highly recommended.

Worst breakfast ever! We had eggs and ham and eggs and sausage but both were so so salty we couldn't eat it. The salad was not fresh. And she short changed us on change. What a disappointment. Never again! We accept that the short changing may have been accidental as the lady serving there was too preoccupied with whatever business she was talking to the other 2 persons in the shop about, but that doesn't change the fact that the breakfast was awful... The only time we had bad food on our whole Budapest trip!

BITE bakery café is a delightful spot in Budapest that promises a cozy atmosphere and friendly service, making it an ideal choice for breakfast or snacks. Renowned for its exceptional cinnamon rolls, which many claim to be the best in Hungary, BITE also offers tempting pastries and good coffee. While prices may lean towards the higher side, the quality of food—like their delicious raspberry pistachio roll—and warm ambiance make it well worth a visit.
A cute bakery offering delicious pastries and good coffee, perfect for breakfast. It’s safe to say, they have the best cinnamon roll in Budapest. Their raspberry pistachio roll was just as tasty. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, the prices are a bit on the higher end but definitely worth it.☕️

Food is pretty good, cubed croissant was amazing with lots of filling. Girls that are working there are also very nice but they have no gloves or any kind of understanding of food hygiene: they touch everything without hand wash or using paper or utilities, that is pretty disgusting. Also tables and seats are sticky and ambient is very strange.

Still lovely to grab something! Update: plantmilk was not extra!!! All is well in life, there is progress, there is hope! :) My old post: They charge you extra for plant based milk. Screw you, man. It is like chargeing someone extra for being lactose intolerant. And it is not like we are talking about a 50 cents Coffee. Everything was fine besides that: service extra friendly, food and Coffee nice, but 1 euro exta for the plant based milk in the 2 euro Coffee...

Truly the best cinnamon roll so far in Hungary. It's hard to find a real cinnamon roll here because Hungarian bakers almost always use cocoa in their rolls rather than cinnamon. The"Bite" was a great find and they have several locations. Staff was quick and courteous too!

First time in Budapest and for breakfast/ snacks this place will not disappoint! Omelette and salad was nice but the star of the show was the cinnamon buns, really nice coffee too and friendly service
Mike — Google review
Coffee taste good, the recommended cinnamon roll was also fine, quiche was really good. We were not attacked by the pretzel sandwiches— they look like cheep super market cheese and ham inside the pretzel. The low carb bread-cookies with sources was good to eat otherwise it’s very very very dry. Okay service- the boy gets easily no patience to customers when it’s a bit busy.
