Day trip to Bergamo, I stopped by to try Stracciatella (chocolate chip gelato). It is a birthday place of stracciatella. I am not big chocolate chip ice cream person. It was creamy and it was good. I wanted wafer cone, it is only come in 3 scoops, 4.50 euro. The wafer cone was okay. The other two favors were pistachios and strawberry. Stracciatella was the best of the three. Is it better than other gelato, not really.

The original stracciatella ice cream. Yes,this is much more delicious than anything sold as stracciatella. I became a fan. 🤩 Also tried polenta e osei which is a local specialty and very tasty. Crispy sweet polenta outside and some kind of cream with almond and apricot jam inside. Don't forget to try coffee with zabaglione as well, I loved it!!

A Perfect Afternoon at La Marianna – Gelato, Aperol, and Sunshine after a walk from the castello di san vigillio. During my recent visit to Bergamo’s charming Città Alta, I had the pleasure of stopping by La Marianna at Largo Colle Aperto, 4. Seated on their spacious outdoor terrace, I indulged in their specialty affogato a delightful combination of rich espresso poured over their signature La Marianna’s original 1961 creation, stracciatella creamy gelato. Complementing this was a refreshing Aperol Spritz, perfectly balanced and served with a smile. The gelato was creamy and rich, with generous chocolate shavings that melted perfectly on the tongue. It was evident that high-quality ingredients were used, making it one of the best I’ve tasted. The ambiance was serene, with the sun casting a gentle glow and the world leisurely passing by. It’s no wonder La Marianna is renowned not only for inventing the iconic stracciatella gelato in 1961 but also for providing such memorable experiences.  If you find yourself in Bergamo, I highly recommend taking a moment to relax at La Marianna. Whether you’re a gelato enthusiast or simply seeking a tranquil spot to unwind, this establishment offers both history and hospitality in equal measure. 

Gelato is good however 3 scopes in the cup is similar size of 1 scoop with cone.

Couldn't have asked for a better lunch, absolutely fantastic experience, both food and staff. Our waiter was absolutely superb. Described our dishes, gave recommendations and made the experience perfect. Highly recommend for a dining experience you won't forget. Grazie mille!

A typical tourist restaurant. The food was average, and there was no flexibility to order anything outside of the set menu. At least they managed to bring us tomatoes and mozzarella separately, as they weren’t able to prepare a Caprese salad. The pasta wasn’t bad, the most delicious one was the lobster pasta. However, the most disappointing part was that they added an extra bottle of wine to our bill, which we neither ordered nor drank. When we pointed out that we had only one bottle, they corrected the bill without any issues. Still, it left us with a slightly uncomfortable feeling, as it could have been an honest mistake or something less innocent. The only truly enjoyable aspect was the beautiful garden and its pleasant atmosphere.

Great local food. We had for apetisers au eroine which was not so reat and 16 year old prosciuto with bread and cheese - very tasty! Maine course we had the răzbit with polenta and ravioli👌

Incredible meal and a wonderful dining experience. We were served by Michel, a sommelier with a true passion for his craft. He had spot-on tasting notes for the simple montepulciano blend we selected, made excellent meal suggestions, poured a few glasses of a lovely white to try with our grilled sea bass (when I asked if we had made a classic wine error ordering fish while enjoying abbottle of red), and took care of us quite adeptly throughout dinner. Truly enjoyable!

Lovely service, our waiter was nice and helpful. The food was beautifully presented, we ordered several main dishes, and everything was very tasty. The coffee was perfect too. Great location with a nice atmosphere. The only downside was the QR code menu in Italian.

. We went into this café, and the guy who served us was openly disrespectful and completely uninterested. I get that maybe it wasn’t his best day — that happens. But his whole attitude just communicated annoyance and total disregard for the customers. No one expects a Broadway performance, but when you work with the public, showing at least a basic level of courtesy should be the bare minimum.

Really great food. Everything tasted fresh and well made. It did take a bit of time for the main dishes to come out. The casoncelli, which is the regional specialty, in particular was delicious and really hit the spot.

I’m in love with Trattoria La Colombina! The food is absolutely a 10/10 – fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff make you feel right at home. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat!

The pleasant atmosphere, quality ingredients, authenticity of the recipes and friendliness of the staff make it an easy choice. It’s a traditional restaurant with a limited menu and reasonable prices. I especially enjoyed the casoncelli alla bergamasca, the pork cheeks and the espresso with ice cream.

Stumbled upon this Trattoria by pure luck while venturing outside of the Citta Altà and I arrived right on time as they were opening and got lucky to have a beautiful table with a view even if I didn’t have a reservation. The food was amazing and such good value. I tried the Casoncelli alla Bergamasca and I was wowed! Soooo good! The only downside was that the lady that made me pay at the end was not very nice, a bit cold and unable to smile but the other staff were lovely. All in all, I highly recommend this place!

Insanely delicious food, excellent wine and stunning views as it’s located on top of the hill. We were super lucky to get in without a reservation but the restaurant was packed. Carpaccio was recommended by the staff member and was exceptional. We had a great time here and a very friendly experience. We’re so full we couldn’t eat until the next day, beautiful

Great experience. Friendly staff, lovely views and good food. I shared a starter with my partner and we could easily have shared a main course too. Portions are enormous. Very good quality and value for money. Dessert is giant too.

A classic touristy spot—crowded but efficient. Service was quick, though the pizza leaned a bit salty for my taste. They were too busy to clean the tables promptly, but we managed to find a spot upstairs. The space there felt a bit bare, with plain walls and no decoration.

What a place! The pizza is exceptional in flavour and choice. It was busy the times we went but the numbering system to order is helpful and having more than one person with you to find and wait for a table whilst the other pays and collects is ideal. You pay by the kilo so can be easy to ask for a small/large slice as they cut them to order.

The focaccia was absolutely worth the wait! From taking the ticket to placing and paying for the order, we waited about 20 minutes – but every bite made it worthwhile. We paid around €20 for two pieces, which is more than fair given the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Perfectly balanced flavors, soft and aromatic dough – it simply melts in your mouth. Definitely a place worth visiting!

Very popular place for pizza and focaccia in old town Bergamo. Service was quick with lots of options for pizzas. Pizza is also reheated and baked before they serve you.

Honestly the food looked so good and I have been seeing it on instagram . But when I reached there , there were already a lot of people in queue and yet the food tasted old , stale and not fresh . I paid almost 10 euros per slice because it weighed and it’s mostly bread that heavy . The croissant ham sandwich was mid and so was their latte. Honestly I would never go back there . The margarita I ate was honestly the most fried slice of stale pizza I have had and the salmon was edible but for the money I paid it’s such a rip off

There was a big queue and from the outside the pizza looks amazing - Sadly it didn’t live up to the hype.. Pizza: 5️⃣ way too salty, definitely not worth the price (my slide was €8.6) Staff: 9️⃣ friendly tho, which was a plus

Decided to try this place based on reviews and storefront attraction of jams and cozy inside. Got a latte and it was well balanced. It was great. Also ordered polenta and the cream inside was great. I also ordered pear juice while not their own, it was great. The location is great right in the old town and fantastic cozy ambiance. The service is slightly poor due to lack of recognition of customer and attentiveness. May come back again.

Love this cafe. My dad took me here 20 years ago. Coffee and atmosphere amazing. I re attended 19 and 18 years ago so was delighted to go back when on Holiday the last few days. Place has been renovated. Still has not lost its touch. Staff were attentive, cakes and coffee phenomenal. Didn’t try their food, however cant recommend this cafe enough Thanks for looking after us

Elegant café/patisserie in Città Alta. We went for breakfast and tried jam brioche,salted caramel pastry,espresso and cappuccino. Pastries are super delicious, high quality. Friendly staff,beautiful interior. Prices are moderate,absolutely worth it.

By chance I saw this fancy looking cafe/patisserie offered a lunch menu. Went in to check the prices and found a very affordable weekday lunch deal. We were 4 adults and ended up sharing 2 x lunch deals which gave us 4 primi dishes, 2 cakes, 2 waters 250ml, and 2 espressos for the very reasonable price of €44. No coperto but they still gave us a generous portion of bread. The table service was top notch, and the interior decor was beautiful, dining room was quiet tucked away at the back far from the busy street. Food was excellent; meatballs and polenta was creamy and flavorful, casoncelli and trofie al pesto pastas were delicious. Admittedly the size of the primi dishes are not massive, someone with a big appetite might want the €22 deal for just one person, but this was adequate for us, especially with the addition of the bread and dessert. For dessert you got to choose from a selection of tea cakes in the middle table; the pistachio strawberry was top notch. This special menu pricing was not advertised anywhere outside the cafe so I am very glad I went in to check!

Wonderful place, cosy, relaxed, super friendly and helpful staff, quiet oasis in busy old town, various inside and outisde seating is available. We had a fabulous apero with handmade delicate canapés, delivered with love. Loved it, try it!

Excellent quality gelato. All carmen shops provide the same high level of experience both for food and service. Very gentle people with will to explain and help. 4 stars only because this place does not provide toilets for the customers even if they offer tables to sit down and enjoy your sweet choice. With food you eat with your hands that it is also melting, it would be nice to have a sink to wash your hands. Especially since it is in a shopping zone that maybe the hands are not in their cleanest version.

Very beautiful place because of the scenery But the gastro experience by itself is not worth it. There is too much choices for breakfast so it is hard to choose. The pastrami sendvich was dry and overall 2/10. The Italiana style sendvich was 5/10. We asked for a bottle of water twice and it was never delivered.

We just had a coffee and cheesecake here and they were fine, there is a lovely view. It is not too popular, as its at the end of the funicular hall so you have to navigate your way through the line to get there. The upside was that it was easy to find seats on the terrace with the view, even over easter. Interesting spread of clientele and somewhat tired staff most of whom are migrants.

Beautiful view and benefits from an outdoor space but no freshness in the milkshake or smoothie, matcha of good quality but unfortunately not well worked, the value for money is not great, I think you have to ask for ice cubes in your drink to be refreshed

We only ordered beers so cannot comment on food. First impressions is it’s a tourist trap but I feel the food could be good. The view is definitely great. To our surprise our beers that were €6 each for large, were accompanied it a free tasting plate. Service is good and speak English.

Lovely place to eat with friends with a lot of food variety to choose from and a nice view to enjoy all the meanwhile. We've had an avocado toast and we've all been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ingredients, so the price is totally justified, and we'll definitely be back next time we visit Bergamo.

The best cake we’ve ever had! The chicken wings were also delicious. The outside (terrace) would be awesome but there’s always some people smoking so we had to change tables and sit inside because they blew the smoke right into our faces.😅 But other than this it was a great experience and we liked the interior design very much!🥰

Scammers, after telling us the price of two red bulls (10€) we said we changed our minds. The cashier told us we have to pay anyway because she already printed the receipt. When I pointed out that the receipt was not printed yet and the order could have been cancelled she proceeded to hit confirm and print the receipt. Greedy company, and greedy owners forcing their workers to scam people. Disgusting do yourself a favour. Do not shop them and let them close forever. Every year their price goes up by 20%. Also the food quality is poor and two day old with flies crawling all over it.

A muffin for sure aged for 5 days, hard as a rock. Worst I have ever had. Stopped after a bite. Service poor, needs training a lot! Only positive aspect was the sandwich, not bad.

Rudeness, indecency and aggressive behaviour from the short red hair lady at the counter. No idea of customer care whatsoever. Strongly racist bias towards black people sat next by because they occupied part of the corridor, she started screaming at them whereas the white ladies occupying the same corridor with immense bulky luggage were left alone. I was instead rudely asked to leave immediately by vehemently tapping my table 3 times with her palm, because I was working on my pc after my coffee and juice and that was apparently not allowed (!!). Of course other people occupying seats after food and drink were left alone, maybe because they were chatting whereas I had a laptop open?! Never EVER experienced any treatment like this anywhere before.

The yoghurt and nuts package had expired 2 days back and was smelling aweful. The old lady on the tills dint understand that she was selling an expired stock to me. So pathetic experience.

The waitress was rude. I had bought a meal and was talking to my friend after finishing it and she wanted us to leave. I wouldn't recommend eating there, for the prices they charge the food wasn't good and a total lack of courtesy.

All the advertised juices were not available so you'll have to get the pricier 'centrifugued' option but without the mint or berries today = an apple juice for €5.50 !!!

Charming bakery. We tried the traditional sweet polenta (POLENTA E OSEI), typical of Bergamo, and it was very tasty and interesting. The cannoli and the roll with yellow cream and raisins were also very fresh and had a wonderful flavor.

It is a rustic bakery right by the fanicular. We tried the popular polenta cake. It was fresh, moist, just a bit too sweet for me. Other bakeries were all very delicious, especially the pistachio cream croissant was something not to be skipped.

Foccacia was delicious. Pizza dough was not so great, as it was dry and there was no salt at all on the topings. Very small place. Can get crowded very fast. But overall okay. No vegan sweet bakery options.

Their custard filling croissant is to die for! The custard filling is just different from anywhere else. It's topped with the whipped cream that was holy mellow milky moo-moo yum. Oh god bless Italian pastries

From breakfast to pre dinner appetizers, Krizia has it all. The extensive variety of pastries make the selection difficult. They are all excellent, fresh and of the highest quality. We also like to come to Krizia for appetizers. The bite sized snacks are innovative and delicious. We’ve sampled the food at Krizia numerous times. The service is quick, and always served with a smile.

IMHO this is a 5 star place and certainly closer to a score of 5 than 4 ( as I write it is 4.4). The quality is very high, prices in line with the quality including service but not exaggerated. Indeed elsewhere, you can pay the same or higher for less quality. Overall a 'must' if you are nearby and a fan of Italian cakes and pastries, like me.

The place was full, packed, about 15 people were serving tables. I thought I would have to wait 40 minutes to get served so I decided to sit inside. With my surprise I ordered after 3 minutes and got my breakfast in only 12 ! That's just incredible, my cornetto (crossaint) with pistachio was great, cappuccino was good too. I have to comeback again and see if I was just lucky, however I'm impressed.

It's hard to find a place for breakfast in Bergamo on Sunday! Fortunately, Botega Caffe Cacao is waiting for visitors first thing in the morning. A large selection of delicacies for breakfast and delicious coffee to go with it. There are crowds of visitors from the morning, fortunately, the tables get vacated every now and then. It's worth starting the day with breakfast at this place!

I was looking forward to coming here as a huge pastry fan. Ordered 2 pistachio cornettos, 1 to go and they were severely under filled with just a squirt of pistachio cream on the top. I opened it up to show in full the amount of cream. Very dry and unsatisfying cornettos, nice coffee but due to the disappointing cornettos I cannot recommend it.

The cheapest coffee I have ever found in Bergamo and it was good. I really liked this place not only for the cheap coffee but also for the lovely staff and chill atmosphere. The place also offers snacks, and a lunch menu. They have an outside terrace or two indoor sitting rooms. It was a hidden gem in the most popular shopping street and I highly recommend it.

Its a place that where I would come a milion times. The bread is horrible, burned and the sandwich had the worst material quality. Other than that the bathroom is dirty and of course there is no paper. The cleaning in this place is totally horrible. The table are either dirty or sticky. In conclusion horrible experience

The lady bartender who shifted on the 16th of June at 9.30 served us with used cups one had lipstick smeared on it. Her attitude was aggressive and to top it up the coffee and croissant was the worst I have had in Milano. I do not recommend this place at all.

Authentic Sicilian taste! Absolutely delicious aragostine with ricotta and pistachio - crispy, flaky, not too sweet, well balanced. The muffin with almond cream had a bit too intense flavour for your taste buds and made us nauseous at the end but it was natural flavour and good nonetheless. There was a lot of cream inside all of the pastries. The lady that was serving us didn’t speak much English but was nice and tried to explain us everything. Worth a visit when you’re nearby!
