The 21 best ice cream shops in Zurich

I have been here a couple of times now so I thought its time for a review. Great Gelateria with a large selection of ice creams. I really like that they do not only have standard flavours but some nice and unusual combinations. Be aware that at times they have some very long queues.

Delicious ice cream with some original flavors like rosemary! Perfect treat on a warm day or after a stroll through the nearby streets—especially beautiful during cherry blossom season. Friendly service and a lovely little spot to enjoy something refreshing.

Really great sorbet and only CHF 4 for two scoops. It was so smooth and refreshing especially on a hot day. The line was long, back to the tree outside but locals in line said it was “short” so they decided to lump in because the line is generally quite long. Highly recommend

Decent gelato but I’m surprised by how popular it is. They have a wide variety of flavours, some of which are average, others are good but the ice cream itself is less creamy than what you’d expect and you’d occasionally also find the odd ice crystal in them - which is practically a disqualification for any top tier gelato

If you see lines here in the evenings or on weekends, it's because the ice cream tastes good (very natural) and the staff is very friendly + the interior is so atmospheric. And as for Zurich, the prices here are quite pleasant

For the moment it ranks as my favorite creamery in Zurich. However, keep your expectations at the right level: I would consider this to be a good ice cream also in Italy (even above average), but in terms of innovation and intensity of flavors is not even close to the level of the best of the best.

Very good gelato: the flavours are authentic, not so sweet like those where they use suger to bring out the taste. My favourite flavours are pistachio and tiramisu, the latter is so good that one has the impression of eating a tiramisu!

Wow, phenomenal gelato! It tastes like Italy. You can easily tell that this place is legit because the Pistachio ice cream is not green. Congrats to the team making this gelato. It was super flavorful, and amazing texture. I would come back and anyone visiting Zurich should come.

One of the best gelatos we tried, and we ended up going a total of three times during our stay. The gelato is perfectly smooth with strong flavours. There are a few unique combinations and some more traditional ones, and even across our three trips a new flavour was added so it seems there's always something different. The staff was also very friendly. Both staff members that served us were helpful and offered samples (sometimes without even asking for them). Prices might be a bit higher than other places but not by much for Zurich, and the quality here makes it worth the small increase.

I don't understand people queuing at Mövenpick. This is sooo much better. Not too sweet, intense creamy, full of flavour and all natural ingredients. This is italian standard ice-cream quality.

We used to get ice cream here and it's great. Just be aware, today I observed it took about 2 minutes per person on the queue to serve. If there is a long queue, e.g. 30 people, expect to wait more than an hour.

I honestly don’t understand the hype. I’ve cream was good but not amazing. Staff was very nice. The queue was insane on Sunday. Huge disappointment with the flavors. They had only like 6. Wouldn’t go there again

Ginepero gelato and Milk (mini scoop) Gelato. Ice cream flavours offered in western countries are often safe choices which makes me wonder if floral flavours from Birds of paradise can succeed in Western countries. This was probably one or 2 of the only more unique flavor I have seen. Pretty interesting though the crowd here seems to like vanilla or chocolate more.

Why i love this place,?the flavours halooo🤷🏽‍♀️ like its soo good and has a variety of ranges and they are different every time, and the flavours are fresh and you can actually taste, feel and smell them.....if you ate in Zurich, better try this place out. And oooh there is always a bonus test taste ice cream😍

The queue in front of the building alone shows that this is a need. And probably a good one. The selection is good. The quality too. I was positively surprised by their attentiveness. I had a chat with my son about the very adventurous-sounding Parmesan ice cream. This was overheard and I was given a teasing scoop on top of my order to try. Wonderful.

A local friend took us here because this place was her favorite place for gelato. They put a small scoop sample of whatever flavor when you buy a scoop of regular gelato. Friendly staff and very hygienic when scooping the ice cream.

The first gelato I had during my trip (I would eat many more during my trip😋🥰). I arrived in the evening and there was a long queue in front of the store. It is sooo delicious, and it is a standard price of the gelato in Zurich. There are many flavors to choose, I chose strawberry, and a spoon of chocolate for try! Sooooo nice💗🤎

I just chanced across the gelato by accident after a full day strolling around Zürich. Tried 3 flavours with an extra one added for tasting, and now I’m thinking I want to go back for more. Special mention goes to lemon and ginger which is exceptional and blood orange too, also saffron & last but not least pineapple and basil. Can’t wait for the store opening tomorrow, my new happy place.

Ice cream is truly fantastic with lots of flavours to choose from. Would give a 5* rating but the speed of service is just too slow. The “maxi” pot is not really maxi, they need a bigger pot for eating right away in my opinion (I should point out that you can also get a 600ml box which is more for take home than take out and eat right away). I will definitely be back, even in spite of the wait.

The ice cream is absolutely delicious, and I look forward to filling my stamp card from them again every summer. All flavors I’ve tried there have been so good, never been disappointed. One of the best black sesame ice creams I’ve found outside of East Asia. Other personal favorites are chai latte, dulce de leche, and ginger. The place is also beautifully located right across from the Grossmünster. Would definitely recommend stopping by!

Awesome little place with nice selection of ice creams. Huge plus on being bold and testing different flavours that are not mainstream and there prices where reasonable. My personal favourite was ginger ice-cream. Highly recommend on visiting here!

Best ice cream in town… by far!

This place has quickly become my favorite gelato spot in town. There’s something really special about it—not just the quality of the gelato, but the whole feeling you get being there. The flavors change every day, which makes each visit a little surprise. And they’re not just different—they’re thoughtful, creative, and incredibly well made. You can really feel how much care goes into every batch. It’s the kind of gelato that reminds you what real ingredients and passion can do. I’ve even waited in line for nearly an hour, and honestly? It was worth every second. I didn’t mind at all. It felt like part of the experience—like something you’d happily wait for because you know what’s coming is made with love. I’m already planning to come back as often as I can, just to slowly discover every flavor.

You need to go here! An absolute gem of hand made gourmet ice cream by an inspiring and quality minded lady. The flavors change daily, but every sine one I've had so far have been amazing.

Delicious ice cream with a wide variety of vegan options alongside all the classic flavors. The interior is stylish, and the service is excellent.

3.90 for a scoop though I think the people in front of me had two half scoops which could be the move because the scoops were fairly large. CHF 7.50 for two. Had a couple of sorbets, they were fine. A little icier than other places. Not great, not terrible. Probably not the worst place to try but there are better nearby. Line wasn’t too bad but stretched out of the building.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with Eisladen for our recent office event, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The coordination was smooth, the service was impeccable, and the ice cream—absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh! Our entire team was delighted. I can definitely recommend the Eisladen team for any office gathering or corporate event. They truly bring a sweet touch to the occasion! :-)

The ice cream, while not the best I've ever had, was decent. However, it didn't quite live up to the standards I expected in terms of quality. What disappointed me even more was the lackluster customer service. The employees were not as friendly as I would have hoped, which significantly impacted the overall experience. It's essential for a place that serves treats like ice cream to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, but sadly, that was lacking during my visit. Despite these shortcomings, I can't deny that the store has potential, and it might improve in the future. I hope they take this feedback to heart and work on both the quality of their ice cream and the friendliness of their staff. With some adjustments, this place could become a more enjoyable spot for ice cream lovers.

We tasted honey-almond, salted butter caramel & yoghurt and currants. They were all very nice!! The caramel was definitely my favourite!!! The currants were a little tart, maybe one could add a tiny bit more sugar, here. :) other than that, I’ll surely be back again & try the other flavours

There are plenty of good ice-cream shops in Zurich but none of them can compete with Eisladen when it comes to being fun and creative. I love the range of interesting flavours (e.g. blood orange and aperol sorbet), the home-made toppings and that you can have a grown up drink like vodka mate while you eat your ice cream. I had the spaghetti Eis last time I was there and I felt like a child again 💗can’t wait to try the ice-cream milkshake and the ice-cream in a doughnut.

Great ice cream, very tasty and not "just" sorbet. The staff almost seemed annoyed to have to serve us, and it wasnt very clear where to park the bikes (the neighbors made it clear that we couldnt briefly park our bikes around the shop). Would go again, but given the armosphere it's not one of my favorite ice cream places in Zurich.

A really good sorbet in this small ice cream shop. It will worth the walk and the ride. You won't find a fancy shop, but just a basic ice cream shop with a great range of sorbets available to taste. Strongly recommended.

This shop is just around the corner from where the ice cream is produced (in a neighborhood no one would expect it). The ice cream is delicious and the variety super interesting: e.g. green tea & chocolate, caramel & salt, wasabi & cinnamon. Try them out on the spot (liked the cone) and take a few buckets home.

Despite the long take-out line, the service went quick and I was served within a few minutes even if I was behind in the line. Ice cream itself is your generic movenpick taste but they do have a wide selection. Great to a get a scoop or two before you explore the Bellevue area of Zurich. The lines can be extra long on a hot day or if there is an event in the area — which, seasonally, there is.

The team this summer needs to be trained. The place was not crowded there are about 5 staff, and yet it took them 30 MINUTES to get to our table and take the order. The Indian lady was busy chatting with other customers instead of doing her job. VERY DISAPPOINTING !!!!

The food is bio and fresh coocked. It’s a buffet and you pay per gr at the end after you choose everything you want to eat. The manager is kind but at the end I wanted to buy the exact alternative feta I ate from buffet and he recommended me another type ( confirming me that its’s the one I want ) even though I specifically asked for the same one.

Went here on our last day in Switzerland and had a great vegan meal. Tried pretty much everything and finished with kombucha and ice cream. Good food, friendly service, and relaxing atmosphere.

We mostly ate vegan eis-cream there. There are a lot of flavours, they taste very good and they give big portions. A big plus is... the kids can taste the flawours before they pick one :)

The ice cream was acceptable in quality but overpriced. This might be justified if considering their wider vegan selection compared to other places. What truly shocked me, however, was the terrible service. The employee/owner intruded into a private conversation I was having with friends as we entered, reacted rudely when I asked for pistachio (without realizing it was sold out—the label was still there), and later accused a friend of speaking too quietly (which wasn’t even the case). A polite request to repeat would have sufficed. Last but not least, he refused to serve frappè (despite it being on the menu) because it was close to closing time, and made other unpleasant remarks. I will definitely not be returning

BEST BEST BEST fresh ice cream spot in Zurich. It’s creamy, it’s fresh and it’s sooo delicious!!!! My fav one was Nocciutella (so delicious - it has pieces of hazelnuts). One scoop is 5.- though. I used to love Gelateria di Berna, but ORO is definitely #1.

Probably had my favourite Ice Cream ever here, delicious and really creamy (and I love Ice Cream). Chocolate with hazelnut and it's absolutely lovely. By Swiss standards it was cheap and very near transport. A must visit if in Zurich

They stopped making the fresh pizza and calzone to focus on gelato, and their savory isn't good anymore. Best Pizza I've had in Switzerland!! It's way too big for just me but I couldn't put it down. Their pastries also look amazing.

Italian baked goods and ice cream in a cute pastel coloured shop - definitely a good combination! I’m not usually that fond of Italian bakeries, but the croissant with vanilla cream filling I had was good! Very friendly service as well, and had I not been saving the croissant for later, it would have been nice to sit down in the very cute shop.

Nice place with some seats inside. Pretty/modern decorated. Besides ice cream, they have some lunch menus and coffee, pastries. I tried ice cream and wasn't disappointed. Cappuccino was great as well. They have panettone from italy homemade bakery at the shop this winter. Taste a lot better than those industrial products.

the best ice cream I have ever tried in Zürich so far, the vegans one are exquisite and the girl who was there can help you in different languages such as Spanish or Portuguese which is very comforting for someone who’s no from here! lovely

I loved the hot chocolate! The food was great, and the atmosphere was fantastic. However, the service we experienced was disappointing. When we wanted to get the bill, I waved my hand, said ‘excuse me’ several times, and even kept my hand raised, but unfortunately, all my efforts were ignored. It seemed like the older waitress could see everyone else but us (Asian). It wasn’t until I made direct eye contact with her that she finally sent a young waitress over to assist, who was much friendlier compared to the older lady. What can I say, experienced enough for this kind of passive aggressive during the time in Switzerland.

This is specifically regarding the Schoggi Tram. If you have food allergies be extra careful and ask staff to double confirm what each item contains. It’s a lovely experience but today my daughter bit into a praline with peanuts that was incorrectly labeled. The staff is very busy on the tram and there’s lots of room for human error. (In this case the plastic insert containing the pralines was put in backwards in relation to the labels describing each chocolate). Luckily she spit it out and didn’t have a reaction. Staff was apologetic but I worry didn’t grasp how bad this could be for some with more severe allergies. I acknowledge that I should have been more assertive confirming, but also feel we should be able to trust labelling a business provides.

Picked this cafe for a drink + snack due to street side appeal and glad I did. Wide range of choices and the coffee is legit coming from an Aussie tourist (note- latte is just milk in Italian so make sure you order caffe latte if you are after coffee) . Lots of customers buy service was prompt and friendly. Payment can be made in cash or card.

I was there actually for the strawberry tart and a hot chocolate, and they just bring to the table the hot chocolate, never the strawberry, when I had to pay they charged me 14CHF just for the hot chocolate… I was in a hurry and I didn’t notice how much they charged me. But not very nice! Because I saw the carta when I ordered and that wasn’t the price. I don’t know if they did this because I’m not from here, but very disappointed.

Old fashion European style cafe and pastry shop. Food quality is good, price is not cheap, well their location is in the heart of old town, the store has to survive. Few of waitresses actually speak English, communication could be hard if you don't understand Dutch, German or Swiss.

It is not as good as some reviews are telling. It is an average coffee shop, cake shop, rather over-hyped and overpriced. The Schwarzwäldertorte (Black forest cake) basicly did not have any taste, pretty disappointing experience, especially for the high price.

Cafe in the heart of the old town. Bit on the expensive side but scrumptious cakes and cookies. Also, we tried famous hot chocolate from here.

The pistachio croissant was ok, the pistachio cream was purely sugar, I did not wish to swallow it. The cannoli was bit better but not something that I would go back for.

All the gelatos were so sweet! All you can taste is sugar. The tiramisu was good but not mind blowing. Place is a bit rundown and staff isn't the friendliest I've met.

Omg love this bakery!!! Pistachio croissant was filled with pistachio cream and it was so good! The staff was really friendly too! I was staying near this bakery so we went here for breakfast, and on the first day i had a normal croissant, that was so good that we came here again on the next day haha

Caredda is the best place to order a perfect classic but unique cake - they are known for their Italian sweets and beautiful old-fashioned handmade cakes and unusual Italian flavors like Zabaione. A fresh breath different from all other boring Swiss bakeries where they all make the same stuff. Love their style and delicious cakes, all the details they put into a customized cake for a special day. Ms Yvonne Caredda is always super friendly consulting my cake requests. Hands-down my family’s favorite place to order a cake. May Caredda bakery live long! 🙏

Trafitionally italian pastries which taste absolutely amazing...and the aesthetic is just fabulous! This is a MUST TRY if you visit Zurich or else you missed out on an amazing desert-experience

Our group orders pizza from here for a lunch every week, and frankly I am not sure why we keep doing this to ourselves, the pizza is rather mediocre. Here, for 20+ CHF one gets a pizza with dry (sometimes burnt) crust taking like one quarter of the total pizza weight and frustratingy little toppings. If one is after a good pizza, choose NA081 or even Domino, it would still be better. P.S. I don't mean to be personal, I am just a little bit tired of highly overpriced eating out options in Zurich, and as they say it in London (albeit in a different context) "See it, say it, sorted"

More a takeout than a cosy Pizzeria, Pizza was good. Chilly a bit weak. Service was limited as ordering was at the bar, but the chap at the cashier was friendly.

Food**** We got a vegan pizza with vegetables and vegan cheese - came with peppers, olives, artichoke hearts, and mushrooms. We also added broccoli. Delicious pizza! We had ordered cupcakes for a family member's birthday. The cupcakes came without any stand (as shown in all pictures on their website) due to which the cakes had touched the walls of the box and even each other. For the price they are charging, the experience was rather disappointing and I will discourage folks from buying cupcakes for a special occasions from this store. PS: Attaching photos for reference. PPS: Maybe I wasn't clear. I didn't have an issue with the cupcake but with how the box was packed. It was ordered from Justeat.ch but the box is of your bakery and not eat.ch. You are responsible for the packaging. (The reply from the bakery is even more disappointing. It doesn't take much effort to ensure that the box is packed properly. But it's fine. The mistake was mine as a customer. I will definitely be careful next time. Regardless of who delivers, the smart sweet team needs to understand that it is their brand that gets a reputation, not the delivery person. And I can give you the order ID if that can help you verify if I am legit person)

My order was supposed to be a birthday surprise and it turned out to be a huge disappointment. It never arrived and i got charged the full amount. I have receipt and i will report this to Zurich authorities. Update after 10 months: The store has done nothing to fix it. In addition, they asked me to remove the review. Other stores, under normal conditions, would offer some discount or gift. They need to work more on their service.

Cannot recommend this place. Whether you are looking for some great chocolates as gifts or for yourself, it’s such a cute little store. They also do takeaway hot chocolate that I swear it’s the richest and most creamy hot chocolate ever.

Max Chocolatier in Zurich is one of my favorite stops. The staff is always super friendly, and the chocolate is amazing. Their chocolate affogato ice cream is perfect on hot summer days, and their rich hot chocolate is my go-to in winter. Always a delicious experience!

I travelled from Sydney Australia and was delighted to find this wonderful delight of divine chocolate in Zurich. Eva made my selection easy. She was one with the store. I can’t wait to give my wife and daughter max’s chocolates. Not for my son, however. He will devour them too quickly. 😊

This was such a pleasant stop on our way to dinner. The employee we worked with gave us a recommendation for the family member we were shopping for, and he gave us samples of a couple different types of chocolate. He was friendly and conversational. The interior of the store is nicely decorated as well.

Wonderful satellite store from the Lucerne chocolatiers, staff was super helpful with the seasonal chocolates and they are very conscious of all of their ingredients including no palm oil. Great place to take home some hand made chocolates from Switzerland that aren’t the main brands easily found globally.

Our last day at Zurich, dropped by this after the Zurich Festival. It's a big WOW! We tried chocolate, vanilla, mixed berries and orange. All are literally impeccable! Soft, silky but strong and natural flavors! I'm a big vanilla lover tried many brans thus far this is the best! And it's reasonably priced. In my 2-week travel in Swiss, had ice cream at different shops almost everyday, Raffael's is simply the best. I even bought 3 bottles of chocolate home cos I hadn't had enough. I give a 5 star.

Absolutely the best ice cream in Zurich we had so far, and it seems like reasonable prices (for Zurich). SF19 for 2 ice creams and a small chocolate bag. The chocolate is also delicious.

We always come here for gelato when we’re in Bellevue area. It’s so creamy. Wonderful!! Servers are very pleasant and will ask if you want to sample the different flavors.

Hot Chocolate, Crepe's, Ice Cream - all excellent. First night my daughter and I stopped in for Hot Chocolate which was wonderful. It has ruined me to all other hot chocolate from this point forward. My husband said the coffee was excellent. While waiting for my hot chocolate, I watched them prepare beautiful crepes. We returned the following evening to have crepes for dinner, my son chose the ice cream. Upon sampling his ice cream, it was determined we would return again the next night, our final night in Zurich, to get ice cream. This was truly the most wonderful, smoothest ice cream I have ever had. The staff was super friendly, enjoyable to visit with and extremely helpful. The pricing was very reasonable.

Best gelato around! So creamy and so tasty. Honestly didn’t had such a good ice cream in a long time. The things that would be even more nice it’s offering also brioche not thrust the cone and cups, but this does not in any way affect the special taste that the ice cream here has! 💯💯💯

It is one of the best ice creams in Zurich and a great and refreshing stop during a walk in Niederdorf.

Fantastic spot. A+ highly recommend. The sorbets are awesome, ended up choosing the Lemon Ginger one. What's great is that you get a tiny scoop of a second flavor on top! Whole family enjoyed.

Very yummy ice cream. Mango flavour is the best

Excellent. The flavours were natural and strong (I had blackcurrant, raspberry, and natural yoghurt, with a little 'biscuit taster') in a cone. The icecream didn't melt quickly even though it was 25°C, as it was properly frozen. The cone didn't get soggy either (and had a love taste too), so I could enjoy my icecream leisurely. Excellent and friendly service. I really cannot think of an improvement.

I have been all over the world as a connoisseur of ice cream. The flavors here blew me away. Go with the blackberry yogurt, milk, and rum raisin. Or don't, you can't go wrong
