This is the top ranked restaurant in Lappeenranta according to TripAdvisor. New year's eve lunch went according to plan, although most customers did not have a reservation, the place slowly filled up after 12:15 onwards. We did have a reservation and the table was nicely set, whereas walk in customers so not have table settings. The lunch price is rather pricey for a daily eat, and the offering is similar to other lunch eateries, salad, soup, one hot meal, dessert and tea/coffee. The salad was a nice assortment of vegetables with various dressings and more dressing available to hand. Soup was standard, warm and filling to get the appetite going, or as a complete meal for small eaters. Main course was table served, with only one waitress whereby alcoholic drinks could be served if the water was not enough. On the day we arrived, there was shrimp curry (vegetarian was halloumi curry) and rice or breaded fried meat with potatoes and olives. The portions were large for the meat, and conservative for the curry. The halloumi was soft rather than grilled, rendering the usual salty flavour tasteless, and over powered by the spices on the mild curry. Service was pleasant. Home made bread looked to have been over cooked. The ciabatta was extra crispy on the outside, and doughy inside with it being butter spreadable much like a crumpet. Overall, the ambience is busy and rustic, with a famous personality to eat at. Casual and formal lunch are possible, and another verdict is needed after dining for dinner...

I was in town for a work meeting and was introduced to this restaurant by a colleague. It was close to our hotel, and a quick walk. It has a comfortable ambience, where it feels intimate and quite cozy. I did not have anything to drink except water, but they have plenty of offerings for those who want it. I had been flying non stop from the USA so I was avoiding alcohol for a good night's sleep. Our appetizer was the single portion Blinis. They come with finely diced onions, sour cream, and roe that looks so fine it is impossible to say how tiny they are. The Blini itself could have been eaten alone, but when you put it all together it was magnificent! All of us then had the fish of the day, the pike perch with a beurre blanc sauce and potato pancake- pickled whole mustard seeds and a fennel salad. This dish was exquisite. I cannot remember a time when I saw a combination of items I have never had, plated beautifully, and also just absolutely delicious. The Fennel and mustard seeds were a beautiful counterbalance to the fish and potato pancake underneath- which made sure it was crispy by sitting above the beurre blanc. Our server was Iida, (pronouned EE-dah) and was very attentive, professional, and then when we thought our meal was going to end they asked about dessert. This was also a show stopper. Yuzu ice cream with fresh blueberries, blueberry granita, and blueberry jam. It was also one of the most finely plated dishes I have ever seen. I regret not taking a photo of the blini, but I will post the perch and the dessert. Stunning to look at and remember. Thank you to Iida and the team here at Ravintola Wolkoff. Probably the most atmospheric place in Lappeenranta. Very cosy restaurant with local food. It is possible to find a table for up to 6 people. But suits best for small groups 2-4 persons.

This is a great place with a cozy nordic atmosphere. The food is beautifully cooked and presented with small fine details which enhances the experience. The staff is genuine, friendly and offer excellent service. I truly recommend this place.

We took 4 course menu with wine pairing and hard to find anything to complain. Everything was just great and we took white fish (kuha) as a main course as it is local (I think more local than a lamb).

A small family owned restaurant, in a cosy old timber building, with very nice and service minded staff! We were a small group of ten persons, taking part in a burial ceremony at the ortodox Pokrovan church nearby (at the Linnuitos area), and then had a memorial event, with excellent dinner, at ravintola Wolkoff, including the priest that hold the burial ceremony. We highly recommend the restaurant to be visited by other people!

Wanha Makasiini offers delicious wine pairings with mouth-watering testing menus, as well as an a la carte menu. The location is a beautifully restored old building close to Lappeenranta harbor. The reason for 'only' four stars is that the ingredients could be more locally sourced - serving seawater salmon in a restaurant located by the biggest lake of Finland seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity...but I would still definitely recommend!

The neighborhood and the restaurant itself was very nice. I loved it. I took the burger and the rest took the beef steak. The burger was nice, it wasn't fantastic but it was nice. It seems that the guys loved the steak! However, one of the steaks were done raw while it was asked for medium, so they had to change it. Actually, they did a good job, as they made totally new steaks , so Kudos to the staff. Nice slection of drinks available as well. All in all very good.

The food is great as well as the interior of the place. Lots of seafood in the menu. I enjoyed my burger, there was nothing ti complain. The fries could be a little more crispy. The fish burger was also great.

Excellent casual bistro experience. We stopped by quite early in the evening and had no trouble finding seating. The food was well prepared, but a little on the heavy side for my liking with bacon, deep fried fish and creamy potato mash. The bistro is situated near to the water, but the view mainly consist of a car parking place. Excellent service!

The food was very good. For starters I had pike tartar and it was excellent. The Black Angus I had for main course was well prepared and the potato cake and the veggies were really tasty. It's a quiet place in a historic building and based on this experience I can warmly recommend this restaurant.

Seems like a decent place with a creative chef. I had the fish platter and was quite happy with it, although came with cooked salmon instead of smoked one. The best was probably the whitefish so I would recommend it at least as a starter.

Interesting pizza combos and great pizza combos and a huge variety of different beers. Great food But little expensive.

Staff do not greet you at the beginning but let you wait unsure whether or not they noticed you (waiting queue to the tables). Pizzas are nice and good quality, but for some reason we had very little tomato sauce in our pizzas. Fix these small issues and you have super pizzeria!

The good: cozy atmosphere and polite staff. The bad: worst pizza I had in my life, huge chunks of sausage and dripping with grease, could not finish it. Also, they charge 0.80 eur for tap water 🙂

Prob best looking pizza place in imatra, great service and proper pizza. The wait can be a bit long though and food quality can vary from ok to amazing. Still, all this placf would need to improve is consistency with its food.

When I arrived in Lappeenranta from London, I was told of this 'legendary' burger shop that came second place in a nationwide vote for Finland's Best Burger which is definitly no mean feat! Fortunately I had a chance to try out one of their burgers and let me tell you, this thing was absoutely phenominal! Maybe the best burger I've ever had. Everything was fresh and locally sourced (okay maybe not the Pineapple as Finland is not quite a tropical paradise 😉) and just tasted amazing. Locationwise its also small and out-of-the-way meaning its not too busy and you need to know about it to be there. If I ever find myself in Lappeenranta again, I'm definitly coming back!

My God, I just had the most fabulous burger in years. Maybe in my entire life. It wasn't fatty and it didn't leave me with a strange taste in my mouth, unlike most burger joints (they add too much fat). The bread was fresh, I could taste the meat and how juicy it is. Perfectly seasoned and went well with veggies. I'm returning again for another amazing experience one of these days.

Nice place that has been refurbished. Lots of space, smaller break out rooms for private functions. Food is ok. It could be less salty, but maybe that is just my taste! A nice range of coffee break refreshments and snacks at a reasonable price given the location (old castle Fort).

Lots to eat in the meat platter. Meat was good in general except for the ribs which couldve been more tender and maybe could've used some seasoning. The music on the terrace was horrible.

The dishes are very delicious and huge portions for their prices. The salad selection as starter is super fresh and good. Husband and I came to this place two days in a row for lunch. So that should mean something. ^^ The service is very good, food came fast. Staffs were kind.

My wife and I were trying to decide between Lalo and Ship Restaurant Prinsessa Armaada. We made the right decision. Lalo was less expensive, better tasting, has an incredible salad bar, and outdoor seating. The only thing to knock is the mind numbing club music. It made us leave earlier than enjoying the atmosphere. That would have been better on the ship restaurant.

We spontaneously came here for dinner and had to wait a bit to get a table. Although this isn't a small restaurant it's always packed. Rightfully so! The (grilled) food is truly divine, the staff friendly and the atmosphere cosy and welcoming! The prices are actually on the lower side considering that you can take as much as you like from the well-stocked salad buffet (lots of antipasti in there too!), as well as the coffee, tea and dessert buffet! And it's all good quality stuff, so you definitely get a lot of bang for the buck. I think you get free water too, if you don't order drinks. An English menu is available and we can't wait to eat there again! :)

Underrated place. Really good atmosphere and lovely staff. The food here is amazing, really delicious. We had the Angus Beef Burger and Veggie Skews.

Very nice restaurant that will definitely help you when you're hungry, especially if you have just arrived after the road. Just take a pasta and you will have an opportunity to try some salad, vegetables, jalapeno pepper, bread, coffee (with milk or not) and dessert. All this for the affordable price. It's the way we did as we came to Lappeenranta and thanks to my girlfriend that she spotted this restaurant among the other places on Valtakatu street when we were really hungry and cold. Nice service here and great atmosphere. Recommended restaurant.

Nice place, rather expensive. The snails were not that great and I got like 3 chicken stripes with very greasy vegetables but the goat cheese was amazing plus the alcohol free wine was such a pleasant surprise and did taste really good. All in all it was an okay evening with some mediocre good food. For the price I would have expected a bit more. On the side note I ordered an cappuccino and it was so small 😂. But the service was really nice and great.

Very good option for a Business Lunch or a evening out with friends. Centrally located so Angus is easy to reach. There is a separate Vine Cabinet for more private occasions.

No joke, best burger I’ve ever had. Soft bun on inside, crispy on the outside with a butter coat. Burger was nice and tender paired with great toppings. Fries were ok. They have vegan, vegetarian and fish options. Alcohol free wine as well. Service nice fast and friendly. You get complementary water (I’m not used to that in my home country). Interior cozy, pretty and clean (I really like their candle light thing). Will go again.

Even the entrance is one of the simple ones, but you get surprised with decorations when you walk in to the restaurant. super delicious foods with a very fast service. Stakes, salmon and chicken filet are those that we tried and all were fantastic.

We went to pizza perjantai expecting we could taste different pizzas as the promotion estates that you can eat as much pizza as you want. In fact you can select one pizza from the menu and have the entree and desert in the promotion. So if you don't like the flavor you picked you might to get stuck with that an to be honest one pizza is enough for one person so the promotion is quite pointless as if you some up the pizza the entry and desert, depending the pizza you choose could be cheaper just pick what you want than go to the promotion, specially if the person has not the S-group card. We struggled to find the waitress. We have to wait for 5 or more minutes until someone give us attention. And then another 20 min for the pizza. We just had normal tap water and they change it when they saw it was about to end. The pizza was mediocre, nothing really special at least the ones we ordered a lá Rosso and chicken bbq. Entree and desert were quite good. When we were about to pay, another surprise when we realized they charged us for the tap water. We drink two thirds of one and one third of the second and would never expect to be charged for that. In comparison with other pizzerias the experience was catastrophic I am not willing to come back anytime soon. Almost forgot, the salad buffet was so small and with very few options that I rather not get any at all. Big disappointment

Overpriced and under-serviced. Had lunch on saturday 4 june. In the chicken and bacon toast with fries and salad there was a small piece of chicken and about 20 fries with some iceberg sla leaves and pieces of sundried tomato for nearly 20 Euro. REALLY?? and it took 55 Minutes between us sitting down and the food being served. But hé, the waitress apologised that she hadn't told us that waiting times usually are 45 minutes. Never Again, thank you. PS: i had good memories of Rosso from some years ago, but have seen quality and service go down every year since.

A great restaurant find in Lappeenranta, Finland. Quiet atmosphere, understated decor, and the waitress offered us a menu in English. My choices of grilled salmon and grilled cos lettuce hearts with bacon were perfectly cooked and delicious.

Modern looking place with lots of air, overall seemed even a bit bare, since the place was near empty on a Saturday nigh in January. The food was very good, if perhaps a touch traditional. There weren’t too many fresh ideas on the plate that I could see. But a classic done well is a nice thing to have. Quite a good wine selection, with staff well on board with recommendations. Otherwise very good and fast service too.

This restaurant is between the new shopping centre and the pedestrian streets of Lappeenranta. In other words, it is not an obviously place to find and visit. The restaurant is rather large and is run by a restaurant chain in the city. For the price that is charged, it is no wonder the chain restaurant survived in Lappeenranta. There are two other restaurants with distention types of food, but they are all rather overpriced. When paying a price, it is not just about the experience of tasting good food, but also the experience and the environment. On this occasion, I visited the restaurant in a table of four, including one child. The waiters didn't mind where we were sat, and this later caused issues with regards to noisy and rowdy nearby customers. So, even before we started to eat the food, the experience was uncaring. This is often a problem with Finnish waiters, but in other restaurants whereby the price tag is as high as this restaurant, the waiters are usually trained. In this restaurant, any temp worker could have done the job and with no expertise in customer service. I could write more about the poor experience, but I'll get to the point about the food. Over priced is an understatement. We decided to share two starters. Beetroot dish. There were a mixture of sliced beetroot, and shavings. Not impressive at all. The presentation was in a bowl, and I'm not exactly sure how they expect people to eat from it. Poor culinary skills demonstrated. We also had a cheese board. The last time I had one of these for a star was in Warsaw, and I had so much of it, I thought I would never eat cheese again. On this occasion, it was OK, although there was a sauce on it that was too, although only half a place, so who knows what the point of that was. Main course, we had two fish eaters, a steak, and a vege burger. The steak was cooked well done and was satisfactory, despite the 33eur mark up. There is no information about what type of steak it is sourced from, and it was the most expensive main course dish, by around 10eur! The fish portion for the child was the same as the adult. The skin on the salmon was still on it, so again poor chef skills given the dish was in the children's menu. The adult version had a nice orangey sauce, and was satisfactory. The vege burner was 20e, comprosed of smoked tofu (from the shop), large mushroom, put into a burger with 5 different sauces in it, that they're was never the same bite. This may be nice for an Easter who is an adventurer, but it would have been nice to at least reconfirm the last bite taste palette. The worst part were the potatoes, which were supposed to be fries. Again, poor quality from frozen foods, given that there was hardly any potato, and just skin drenched in oil. Even this simple dish, the kitchen could not get it right. The waiters some how also thing it is good to give both sets of cutlery at the beginning, when the tables are not that clean and there are fabric napkins that occasionally go on the lap. The hygiene consideration by the management needs a reality check on the customers needs and not only focusing on the practical aspects for convenience of the staff. We didn't stay for deserts, although, we did want to order a drink between starter and main course, but the drinks arrived after the main course food. In summary, this is a restaurant that is over rated, over priced and more attention is needed on the customers needs and better quality food. I wouldn't have minded, paying the price, but the staff must offer some sort of service and think about table arrangements if noisy neighbouring customers. In that way, I left with the impression that the place is a compete rip off.

Very nice place in heart of Lappeenranta. U can choose lunch for 10 or 13 €. There were bolonjeza, fish and chicken for main meal, soup, big variation of salads. Drink: coffee, tea, sparkling water, soda. Food was very tasty, place very comfortable and cozy. I will get there again. 😋😋

My partner and I had dinner at The Kitchen while visiting relatives in Lappeenranta. We were welcomed by friendly staff who helped us throughout the evening with food and drink choices. We stayed for three hours, consumed starters, mains, desserts, beer and cocktails and left happy and satisfied with the whole experience. I was especially impressed by the cooking of the steak which I ordered rare as well as being offered an array of exceptional choices when ordering whiskey later in the evening. Will be revisiting whenever we are here and I can’t wait to bring more people so we can try the Chef’s Special menu!

My first time at The Kitchen. When asked of allergens in food, they were extremely attentive and kind to find alternative ways to provide me a allergens free meal. Also, the food was very tasty. Will come back for sure.

We were in a restaurant today, we have been going here for many years, and here we are. Nice simple atmosphere and staff. The lamb is very soft BUT VERY SALT! Even one serving is difficult to eat, and let alone what is stated, eat as much as you want. It would be very nice to reduce the salt - this is a request for the restaurant owners.

If you love tender, soft lamb meat & potatoes you're at the right place here. Served with a quality wine of your choice, this restaurant will serve you round after round of the same plate until you're sated. Be careful about over-eating! As a desert you'll be given a traditional bowl of compote. A tasty, memorable culinary experience for all.

Absolutely one of the best if not THE best Finnish traditional dishes. Simple but tasty. Good service and friendly staff. Nice and unique narration to the almost 1000 year known history of Särä eating. Heartily recommended! Good for almost any religion, since it's lamb.

Kind of a must have experience when in the area but you have to book ahead, no walk-ins. The lamb that serve is brined in salt water for 4 days and then is prepared for 9 hours (so for the 1pm serving they start at 4am!) in a wooden trough called särä which gives it a sweet and smoky taste. They will serve as much as you can eat and then you can finish with a fruit soup. Also the low alcohol homemade beer is great.

The restaurant only offers one local traditional finnish dish called Särä: a slow roasted lamb with a side of potatoes. The dish is accommodated with bread and butter and you can wash it down with some sweet homemade low alcohol beer. For dessert you get a large bowl of fruit soup. The price is not cheap although you can eat as much as you'd like. The personal was very polite and welcoming. That said, it is worth a visit only if you like lamb and happen to be near Lami, which is where the restaurant is located.

Definitely the best lunch buffet place in Lappeenranta with variety of options (Sushi, Rice, Drinks and delicious Chicken). Two types of rice (plain and fried), varieties of sushi, original wasabi, moderately spicy chicken, boiled healthy vegetables, salads, fruits - I was amazed by the taste and number of items! This is really worth going everyday. Another surprise was the Lehmus Roastery Coffee which was included with the Buffet. What a finishing to my nice meal. I went there with colleagues and it was a treat from our CTO. I'm grateful and lucky that he chose this place. Really amazing environment, taste, price and service. Highly recommended.

Even though the dishes are quite Chinese in certain perspective, these dishes are not taste really good. The Beef Stew is one of the worst, which is not soft enough and taste too salty.

Please look at the more recent reviews before going here as most of the good and great reviews are years old. This place used to be good. Emphasis on used to. Nowadays the food is tasteless and the service is nonexistant. I went at lunch right at the opening hour when you would expect the food to be really fresh, but the rice in the sushi was already dry, as well as the sauces being quite cold. Usually I go to Lukiefun for lunch and I just came once. I promise I won't come again. The sushi is not fresh and rice are bad. The Chinese dishes are just salty without any other flavor. As a Chinese I am so disappointed. Chinese foods are not like that at all. This is the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever tasted.

At the end, staff gave free buffet voucher to compensate but overall bad experience.

You get to choose from 4 pizzas for 10€ and you can pick a piece of each of them. It's nice but if you do want something else that is not provided with meat you need to pay 3€ on top of your buffet price, only vegan pizzas from their list would be for free with the buffet. The salad bar has been out in the open for a while so rather avoid it, just get the salad itself or a sauce if you like that. Side dishes are also limited and all in all it has changed and I actually wouldn't recommend it, you get better pizza somewhere else, or a whole pizza buffet in Prisma which is better.

Overall experience at the hotel was nice, but I must mention that the rooms are not satisfactory or up to the standards Scandic usually maintains and should maintain. The beds provided were so bad that I wasn’t able to sleep at all.

Stayed for a few days in the hotel. Bathroom had an individual sauna which is a good touch. Breakfast is fine with selection of cold cuts, cheese, English breakfast. Reception staff is helpful. A few opportunity for food and shopping close by.

I loved this hotel. I'm realizing that all of the hotels in this area have somewhat smaller rooms. The rooms are nice. I just felt a bit more cramped than usual. The Staff was friendly. I loved the location of the hotel. You are within walking distance of good food, shops and attractions. I even spent some time walking along the marina. It was very peaceful. I would definitely stay here again.

Still great quality in sushi even though limited sit in capacity (max 2 chairs). ---- Funky little place to have sushi in Lappeenranta. The food, for Finnish standards is good, but when compared with other places, there is a lack of authenticity. This may be a problem with expectations of Finns eating sushi, or it is led by places that serve sushi. For example, the rolls were too large in size, and they could have been rolled more nicely. Not that it really bothers people, as there were many choices of food available, especially from the sets. The deserts were really good though, and would recommend going there just for that if a couple wanted to try something sweet with a coffee. Only 6 tables, so places are limited and it is proving popular.

I would say its a best sushi what you can get in Etela-Karjala region. I try many different places there and there and definitely you won't find anything better. About the prices it's definitely not buffets but you get best bang for the buck for sure. Once I had to wait almost an hour for the my order so from now when make reservation would verify that there is no delays.
