Pub
The Globe Inn Marsh Rye is a vibrant and sustainable restaurant with a modern, eclectic interior featuring hanging lights, colorful furnishings, and stained glass windows. It offers a menu of fresh seafood, British fare, wood-fired pizzas, burgers, and more made from locally sourced products. The restaurant's quirky design uniquely combines rustic and modern elements. Situated near the River Rother, this gastropub-style eatery showcases maritime heritage and serves creative cocktails alongside mouth-watering dishes like mussels.
A really lovely pub only about 5 minutes walk from the town centre although it is a busy road. The road noise is the only downside when sat outside. A lot more peaceful inside. The pub has been voted one of the cosiest pubs in the UK. Very eclectic. Three real ales. I had the Romney best bitter. A new brewery for me. Very good. Deric, Liza, Madge and Casta loved it here. Food looks good, lots of fresh fish.

From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which instantly made us feel at home. There was an excellent choice of drinks – I started with a Spritz, which was perfectly refreshing for a sunny day. We shared the ribs, which came coated in a rich BBQ sauce and were absolutely delicious – so tender and full of flavour. I followed it up with a Whiskey Sour, which was expertly made. The place itself is a total gem – beautifully decorated with vibrant colours and quirky touches. It felt authentic, unique, and full of character. You can really tell a lot of thought has gone into making this a special spot. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, fab drinks, and a welcoming vibe!
Rachael M — Google review
Sadly the food has really gone down hill since I was last here 3 years ago. It used to be a food destination but I wouldn’t bother coming here again other than for a drink. All the food seemed like it was pre-made offsite from a supermarket or something or straight out the freezer. Very poor for the money, especially the small plates. Would rather you charged more and they were better quality. Much better places in town.
Michael D — Google review
Had a wonderful time at the globe inn, greeted with friendly welcome we ate in the beer garden, which is perfectly set for outside dining. Went for the recommended Romney Lamb and it was very tasty. Great staff, and a good wine list, topped off an enjoyable evening.
Patrick C — Google review
A lovely pub located just out of Rye town and the harbour. Food was exceptional. One of the best burgers I have ever eaten. You can tell that they use quality local ingredients. Prices are standard pub prices, I would say they are justified. Great atmosphere. 100% worth the trip. Plus the outside areas are like being on holiday in the right weather.
Josh L — Google review
We had a lovely family meal here on Sunday evening. They were still serving Sunday roasts which some of us opted for. I went for the fish of the day which was perfectly filleted and cooked. A good range of cask beers available. Plus a wide selection of wines.
Andrew S — Google review
Absolutely brilliant place, we have not visited before. Really quirky decor and something to see in every corner. Great service and staff, the sea bream was delicious would recommend 10/10
Susan B — Google review
A lovely, cosy, pleasant, venue with a fantastic choice of food superbly cooked and delivered - a supreme, delicious burger and triple-cooked chips !!! The atmosphere is relaxed, the decor is modern and trendy, and the service is friendly, helpful, and efficient. The beer garden is not huge, but looks a great stop-off on warmer days. Keep it up !!!!!!

Nestled in a charming old-world pub, The Ypres Castle Inn offers a cozy atmosphere with plush velvet booths and a roaring fireplace. The inn features an ever-changing selection of guest beers, including Sussex-based ciders and locally produced vodka or gin from Kent. Guests can also enjoy delicious charcuterie boards and local cheeses while sipping on their favorite brews in the welcoming pub or spacious beer garden.
A near old-school pub with a lovely beer garden and a good selection available. I love the no fuss interior. It's in a great quiet, tucked away location.
Jennifer K — Google review
Great little place for people that like pubs the breweries haven't commercialised. Great beers and ciders that are different from the usual everywhere and a great stout (called Blacks) that's a lovely change from Guinness. They do good cheese plates and pork pies. Open log fire with very friendly staff. The owner is there in the bar most of the time chatting to everybody everywhere. He loves his 'work' and creates a very welcoming, open atmosphere. Nothing is fancy, but it's all very authentic and honest. If you're in Rye and looking for a pleasant distraction for a couple of hours, seek it out. You''ll probably be pleased you did.
David S — Google review
Came here about ten years ago and once again starting off the day here. Liza kicks off with a Langudoc rosé. I had a Kent brewery 4.1% Golding. Lovely pint. Two real ales and a cider on handpump. A beautiful pub in a great setting. Friendly staff. Large walled beer garden with views over the wetlands to the sea. Looks like decking also being built. Only bar snacks and pork pies: not a food destination.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Chilled out pub with a great beer garden, dates back to the 17th Century. We visited on a Sunday evening so there was only one cask ales on (they shut Monday - Weds), but there is a good choice of other drinks. Dog friendly. They don't serve food and access is down some steep steps.
Diane R — Google review
We had a lovely visit to the Ypres Castle Inn – the perfect spot to enjoy a cool drink in their beautiful beer garden. We sampled some of the bar food and were not disappointed – the cheese and pickle roll was delicious, and the large pork pie was absolutely spot on. The service was warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We actually turned up a little early before opening, but they were incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home. A hidden gem with great atmosphere and friendly staff – would definitely recommend!
Amy W — Google review
Great old vibey little inn serving local ales, ciders and more. Well worth checking out after a visit to the 'castle' Pop down the stairs afterwards and you can go grab some lunch at the fish market and seafood bar! Perfect!

Stumbled into this lovely little country pub on a beautiful day in Rye. Fantastic selection of beers and ciders, many from Sussex but lots from around the world. Beautiful beer garden, cozy fire, what more could you ask for?

Immaculate vibes all round! Incredible cocktails, ambient lighting and wonderful jazz! What’s not to love. We came for a hens weekend and it was the PERFECT vibe. The service was lovely too, they were so attentive and efficient! Grab your friends or a date, book a table and thank me later xx

Absolute gem! Cosy authentic atmosphere, fantastic live jazz performance and great house champagne - all that’s needed for a great evening! The service is very friendly and professional too. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Rye 🙂

What a fabulous wine bar. Brilliant atmosphere, attentiveness staff. Excellent entertainment and quality champagne, wine and cocktails, we also had the cheeseboard which was very good value for money. We would highly recommend, and wouldn’t hesitate to return

This is how a jazz bar SHOULD be! Terrific atmosphere with low lights on individual tables. Able to hear the music wherever you sit. Great wines and table service so you are treated like a customer and not a nuisance. A must visit if you love wine and jazz!

Rye Waterworks Micropub is a charming and historic spot, located in a building that was originally a water pump house for 300 years before being repurposed as a soup kitchen in the 1890s. Now, it's a cozy micropub offering craft ales, beers, ciders, and light snacks. The place exudes an old-world vibe with its bric-a-brac that can be purchased from an antique store within the pub.
The only CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub in Rye. Liza is not sure why as Rye is wonderful and full of great pubs.( might be my afterlife Heaven!) Stayed for two rounds as the beer / cider choice is superb. Ticked off three new breweries. Super pork pies and Scotch eggs. They encourage you to share tables. Some front outside seating. Like the idea of flushing the loo with Sharp's Doombar. All it is good for says Liza.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
What a brilliant pub! It’s got such a brilliant atmosphere. Everyone is so welcoming who works there. And the beer selection they brew is fantastic. The hazy was absolutely delicious. Sat there for a good few hours taking in the sights. Will definitely be back.
Jon — Google review
The beer is excellent. The food is good, but not great. But you can't beat the atmosphere and the vibe here. It's what a stereotypic nice local microbrewery should be.
Michael P — Google review
Absolutely brilliant pub a must visit if you like a real ale. The landlord brews a lot of the beer down the road in an old waterworks, hence the brewery name. Pub is small, but Dave, the landlord, has turned that into a bonus. He will move people about and sit them together, so you have to talk to strangers. There are quite a few regulars, and they will chat with anyone. I defy you to leave this palace without a smile on your face. In fact, Dave will do his utmost to make that very unlikely Oh, and the beer is great and very well priced. I've been through the card over the last 2 days and didn't find one I would not drink again. Food is simple, pork pies or scotch eggs, so don't plan on dinner here, but that said they were both very nice and great to fill a little spot between beers.
Christopher R — Google review
This pub is a whole new level of dope! The owner’s a legend, and the place doubles as an antique shop. Yes, even your seat and table are up for grabs lol! The drinks are fantastic.

Live music venue
Restaurant
The Queens Head, a historic pub dating back to around 1830, was among the first establishments granted a beer-selling license under the Beerhouse Act. This lively and family-friendly venue welcomes dogs and occasionally hosts live music, drawing in a diverse crowd with its selection of local and real ales. Situated near Rye's historic Landgate, The Queens Head exudes charm and comfort while serving up traditional dishes alongside refreshing pints.
My wife and I visited Rye for 12 days from the USA. We were lucky enough to find the Queens Head on night 1, a Wednesday. Cal immediately took us in as family and we were able to participate in all the music activities. This is the most down to earth, friendly, and community forward pub I have ever been to in the UK. Well done Cal and team!!!
Geoffrey D — Google review
I visited this pub for dinner and I liked it a lot, the food was very nice, well cooked and tasty. The pub had a very old, authentic feel to it. The toilets were very clean. The furniture was comfortable, and there were board games and books available. The bar staff whose names were Nick and Tia were friendly and accommodating. Also the pub is dog friendly and everyone, staff and customers made a fuss of my dogs.
Kerrie P — Google review
We stopped by to have lunch while walking around the town of Rye. Decent food but heartwarming dishes. It seems to be a pub full of history where you could see historic displays on the wall. Love the decor inside, warm and cozy and very homely. The portion was not big, so would recommend to get an appetiser / dessert other than the main course. Nice beer as well.
T. S — Google review
Friendly warm and knowledgeable barman (Calvin). Great food from the set menu. Well kept real ales. Came here for lunch at end of break and found a hidden gem. Set menu for food had a good range and it was good quality food which was very reasonable. Looking forward to going back to Rye so we can visit again soon.
Jds M — Google review
We came for a chill evening and dinner and both delivered! Staff was lovely and all the food was delicious! Recommend the baked camambert for a cold weather treat.
Ratki A — Google review
The real ale not the best and the food athough tasty was such a small portion we had to have something to eat in a different pub to fill ourselves up. Did not return as there are better pubs in Rye.
Shaun J — Google review
We went there for food and it was absolutely miserable. We tried pretty much everything from the mains and every single thing was horrid. Tartiflette had just some cream and cheese sprinkled on top which was burnt, and potatoes undercooked. Burgers were dry, Crab and Fish unseasoned and unflavoured, and pasta was reheated and overcooked. It had become a clump of gooey mess and I barely touched it other than the veggies (which also weren’t grilled as described on the menu). The woman cooking the food was also rude and bossy to the waiter who was the only saving grace. The poor guy was literally on his own running around to serve everyone and super nice to us. If it weren’t for him I’d give zero stars. Give this man a raise cause I would have walked out, and bring an actual chef that knows how to cool basic stuff like pasta and potatoes.

Restaurant
Located on the bustling High Street, The Fig is a chic cafe and four-bedroom hotel that has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. The cafe offers a global menu with locally sourced coffee, cocktails, and healthy dishes such as avocado toast and herby mushroom Benedict. The vibrant atmosphere and stylish presentation make it an ideal place to start the day. Each of the hotel's rooms is uniquely decorated with colorful furnishings and handmade ceramics by owner Rosie Patenall.
I visited for brunch. It was toward the end of a month-long trip across Europe, and this was hands down the best meal I had—not just on the trip, but possibly even compared to what I’ve eaten back home in Japan. The food was exceptionally delicious—one of those meals that quietly surprises you with how good it is. The staff were friendly, attentive, and the service was delivered at just the right pace. I’d love to stay here someday and try more of the menu. I’ll definitely be back—and I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

We chose The Fig at Rye because my husband is vegetarian, and this place truly stood out with its thoughtful and creative vegetarian selections. Often, vegetarian options at restaurants feel like an afterthought, but here they were just as carefully crafted and full of flavor as the rest of the menu. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, with a relaxed charm that made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, making great recommendations that suited both vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences. The food itself was outstanding — beautifully presented, fresh, and full of unique flavors that made each dish memorable. We especially appreciated the balance of textures and seasonings, which showed the kitchen’s attention to detail and creativity. Overall, The Fig at Rye exceeded our expectations. It’s rare to find a restaurant that caters so well to vegetarians without compromising on taste or variety. A wonderful dining experience that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Rye. We’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic modern room with hint of India decor in the room, set in the village high street of Rye, with the added bonus of the delicious breakfast that will tingle your taste buds. The menu is vast which is the inspiration of Rose's travels. The staff are more than friendly, created a fun atmosphere. They were very polite and helpful to meet our needs which is most appreciated. The rooms with the food at The Fig, Rye is highly recommended. Will be most definitely coming back.
Nade A — Google review
We visited the restaurant twice during our 4 day stay in Rye, once for brunch and once for dinner. On both occasions staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable, especially considering how busy the place was. The food was good on both occasions and we felt they had the biggest variety of vegetarian dishes of any of the places we ate at in Rye but the meat dishes were also excellent. Very good cocktails, which is a bonus. Good spicy margarita.
Turan H — Google review
I had heard & read great things about The Fig - It was totally worth it & lived up to the hype. I would really recommend and advise booking ahead for dinner. Fantastic range of vegan options and we were really pleasantly surprised by & loved the "mushroom & greens" dish.
Tara — Google review
We saw a big queue, so we joined. Since the queue was long so our expectations were high. The restaurant was quite small but packed with customers. We missed the brunch hours so we ordered from their lunch menu. I had this gnocchi pesto with pine nuts, which was really nice. However the pull pork taco was nothing special. The taco was just too soft.
Chaya K — Google review
My wife and I visited for our first wedding anniversary. Thank you so much for fitting us in with very short notice, and the complimentary glasses of prosecco were a nice touch! The food was amazing and the service was brilliant. We both had a wonderful evening - thank you! Would highly recommend to anyone!

Popped in for an evening meal whilst staying in Rye and what a meal. We chose 5 dishes and each one was so tasty. The goats cheese was so delicious as was the the fennel and apricot salad. The restaurant is small and was very busy but it didn't affect the service we received.

Cinque Ports is a warm and traditional pub located near Rye Harbour in East Sussex. It offers a variety of British favorites such as pies, gammon and eggs, and Sunday roasts throughout the day. The pub has a friendly atmosphere with spacious garden seating and provides entertainment like live music, sports viewing, and farmers markets. Additionally, it is conveniently situated close to the railway station with ample parking available. Visitors can expect welcoming service and affordable prices at this family-friendly establishment.
A lovely pub to finish off a day in Rye. Near the railway station. A Sheperd Neame pub so had the excellent Spitfire bitter. Good beer garden. Liza tells me that it was home time, I'd had plenty.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Probably one of the most welcoming and friendly pubs I’ve been to for a long while. We had 3 adults, 3 children and a baby eating here. The children had the kids breakfast and the fish fingers and chips. I had the homemade lasagne (generous potions of garlic bread!) and the other two adults had the full English. Clean plates all round! They’ve got a high chair for little ones and while there’s no baby change, if you ask behind the bar, they’ve got a changing mat you can use. Good, solid food, and lovely staff. A really decent experience and meal.
Eliza F — Google review
Busy pub serving pub staples for a reasonable price. Ham egg and chips for £7.95, though l had scampi and my partner had pie and mash, which still only came to £25. Served quickly and freshly cooked. Bit noisy and sports showing on the tv but great for a pit stop before exploring Rye.
Alison M — Google review
Lovely welcome on arrival from lady behind the bar. Menus given and specials explained. Nice food. Sat outside in the beer garden. Very nice enjoyable lunch at a reasonable price x

Nice unpretentious boozer. For some reason the TV is in at full blast (including commercials!). Who goes to the pub to watch daytime TV?
Morten — Google review
If I could leave a zero star I would this place is horrible. being told off for not drinking fast enough by the owner . Me and my mate made the terrible mistake of buying cokes instead of pints, which apparently isn’t spending ‘proper money’ in this pub. Lovely to know hospitality here depends entirely on how quickly you empty your wallet. If you’re after a warm welcome, maybe bring a stopwatch and a big bar tab — otherwise, expect dirty looks by the owner

Having left an ancient pub ( the Mermaid) Liza stumbled straight into The Old Bull, which claims to be even older..1400's. Lovely sun trap side beer patio. Two real ales, Liza told me to have a Harvey's best bitter while she sups a Limoncello Spritz. Small pub that offers food.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fast food restaurant
Restaurant
Marino's Fish Bar in Rye is a beloved spot for traditional fish and chips and other classic favorites. Located at the bottom of The Mint, this simple and relaxed restaurant is open year-round for lunch and dinner, catering to both locals and visitors. In addition to the standard fare, they also offer scallops during the right season and deep-fried pineapple fritters for dessert. Known for their excellent fish and chips, Marino's uses beef fat to cook their chips but can accommodate alternatives.
Sat in to eat with a view of the pretty road. Ordered 2 kids cod and chips meals for 2 adults as we didn’t want a lot. The size was actually really decent. Cod was fresh and batter crispy, the chips were crispy and soft inside. Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Both the server and chef were very polite and helpful.

The fish is good quality and very fresh, chips come with each meal and the tea is standard. Battered sausage is okay and can be bought separately. The main standout would be the fresh cod. If you prefer you can sit in to eat your meal though it does not seem obvious. It is quite hidden but there is a door next to the shop. Table service is fast. It is quite a small space and gets quite noisy as it becomes quite full. The doors on each side of the room open and slam shut with a loud bang every now and again. Atmosphere is not the best, good for a quick eat not good for a date. It gets quite busy on a Saturday evening and we were lucky to get a table. I think they close their table service around 8pm.

Came for a visit to Rye with my wife on a Saturday afternoon and as we got hungry, we decided to try the local fish & chips shop. The hosts were very friendly, greeted us and showed us to a table for 2 by the window that just got freed up. We took our seats and placed our food order. I had a large cod & chips and a lemonade, whereas my wife got the medium portion of cod with chips and lemonade. I was debating if I should get the mushy peas or not, as I know the potion is usually small. The host encouraged me to get it and I'm glad I did, as they really put as much mushy peas in the portion as they could. The chips were piping hot and the fish was nice and flaky, but crunchy on the outside. The view out the window was also nice, as we could watch people go by and enjoy their day. Overall a very good experience and whenever we'll be passing through Rye again, we'll look to eat here.

Great Fish & Chips! Found this place online and it didn't disappoint, tasty food, good portions and wonderful service! The sitting is traditional cafe/dinner style, a bit cosy but okay. I would go again. To be honest by the time we were leaving there was a queue outside!

Really enjoyed a lovely Saturday treat of Hake and chips with mushy 🫛. The chips tasted home made and the batter was light and crispy. Would definitely return.

We travelled down from Windsor to stay in Rye Harbour and had fish and chips from here. Food was fantastic and the portions are huge. Massive thank you to Marion’s, proper fish and chips

First time in Rye yesterday , was really looking forward to fish and chips all week. The chips were nice, but the fish was terrible, no taste at all. They must have thought she’s not from round here, we’ll give her the oldest frozen fish. Ketchup you have to pay for, which I don’t mind, but they told me this after I had paid, and it’s a £5 minimum card spend! Overall wasn’t impressed.

Nestled on the charming Mint Street, Hoof - Rye is a delightful country-style eatery that champions locally sourced ingredients. This independent gem specializes in an array of mouthwatering burgers and steaks, all crafted from the finest cuts of meat. The rustic wooden interiors create a cozy atmosphere where you can savor everything from classic lamb burgers to indulgent brie and bacon options.
Visited here 3 times this week whilst on holiday and every time everything was perfect. They are dog friendly and our dogs appeared very comfortable and they were very well behaved on each visit.. the menu is limited but is done very well. The roast is amazing and it is also worth getting the extra sides as the pigs in blankets are huge and the best sausages we have had and the cauliflower cheese with bacon is amazing. Staff are very friendly and create an easy atmosphere. It is a bit more expensive here but you get what you pay for and it really is worth it

Food was very good! The burger was done really well and tasted amazing. The service was quick and very good as well. The place is small and busy which gives it a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

This was tied for the best dining experience we had while visiting the UK and for what it's worth it was a small shop on a hill in Rye. I can't say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere and service were as good as it gets. Now for the food, locally sourced beef, vegetables, fruit and essentially the entire menu. The steak that my wife and I had and we have been to so many restaurants all over was arguably the best steak at a restaurant we've ever had. The sides were on point and the meal as a whole was exceptional. Should you find yourself in Rye this is a MUST VISIT!

Wow what a little Gem of Rye. Absolutely amazing place. Lovely attentive staff, great choice of food and drinks. Best sirloin steak i've ever had and hubby said the same about the Dirty Hoof burger. We will definitely return and this place is a must.

We got the muddy hoof burger which has beef patties, chilli, bacon, cheese, burger sauce, lettuce, tomato, jalapeño and onion ring which was lovely, served with skin on fries and drinks. Staff very friendly and nice atmosphere. Has upstairs seating and outside, dog friendly throughout.

We had the most amazing meal last night. I would suggest that you book a table as it was pure luck that they were able to accommodate us without a booking. This is a very cosy restaurant with an emphasis on delivering excellent food from local farmers. We both ordered the bavette which was cooked beautifully along with the mushrooms, tomatoes and locally grown skin on chips. Delicious! Would highly recommend the Rioja which is in my opinion a perfect accompaniment. Couldn't fault the meal, service or ambience.

Absolutely stunning meal! The flank was cooked to perfection & the burgers were juicy & succulent. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was just superb, very good music choices. They are very aware of allergens / lots of GLUTEN FREE options. Would highly recommend this restaurant. It is clear that this is a popular venue so booking is advised.

Amazing lunch at Hoof on a Sunday afternoon. The food was good. And the service was extremely friendly and attentive. We had the goat cheese salad and the crispy squid for starters and the rump steak and the mussels for mains. All dishes were nicely prepared. I think the chips were one of the best I have tried. And most ingredients are sourced locally. For drinks we tried the local lager which was very good.

Stayed for one night to celebrate a milestone birthday for my partner. We had booked one of the cottages. It was wonderful!!! The biggest most comfy bed you will ever see! The shower and all amenities were first class. Off the main road so was extremely quiet too. Our evening meals were also very good with a good selection for both food and wine. Both of us enjoyed our meals. Partner had steak which was delicious. I had home made lasagne with home made garlic bread. . The service was friendly and very attentive. The staff couldn’t make you feel any more special. Back at the cottage we slept soundly and then had a lovely full English breakfast in a lovely homely quiet room. I couldn’t rate this establishment any higher. Steven, Lisa and their team are fabulous and go out of their way to make you feel special. Thank you all so much for making my partners birthday the best !!

The king’s head recently held a wedding reception for myself and my wife and I I couldn’t ask for more from Lisa and steve and their team. Everyone worked so hard and made the day very special. The food was excellent and the rooms were lovely also. The pub was decorated to a very high standard and is such an asset to rye and surrounding areas.

We stopped here by chance - the friendly staff found as a table straight away. We had a really yummy dinner - breaded mushrooms, fish and chips and Mac n Cheese from the specials (all great portions). It was a cosy atmosphere and we were well looked after. Would highly recommend to others.

We booked every room the night before our wedding in nearby Camber and had the best time. Everyone at the King’s Head Inn was attentive, the service was great - as was the food and the rooms. Nothing was too much to ask and it was the perfect place to get together with loved ones and celebrate.

Good sized portions of hearty food, and excellent quality too. Service is personal and I believe most of the food is home cooked on site, even their creme bruleè. A pub one side of the bar and a restaurant the other so everyone is catered for. The kings head also benefits from having a decent sized car park.

Had a delicious tender roast beef dinner. Larger than average portions well presented and delicious gravy. Definitely eating here again. Staff friendly and accommodating.

One of a party who attended the Kings Head on Saturday 11th October for a meal which truly awful. Food thrown together to mimic prawn cocktails was diabolical and tasted bland and looked terrible. The soup I ordered was vegetable (I use that word loosely) was revolting and my comments were to a very sweet waitress did the chef make the soup from his discarded socks! With hindsight we should have refused to pay the bill entirely. The chef made several trips to the bar whilst we were eating to fetch beer for himself that he was drinking en route to the kitchen! Health and Safety springs to mind! The Kings Head should be reported to the Food Standards Agency,,,,,,,,do not eat there save yourself a tragic food experience and I wish we had looked at the 29 dreadful reviews before we booked. The worse meal I have ever experienced. Well done to the waitress find another job you are worth more than serving customers such a poor standard of food

Very welcoming wee wine bar. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and made to feel part of things by both him and some of his regular guests. We found a spot by the window to nestle and there is a fireplace, books and plenty of well priced wines to choose from. I ordered a glass of local sparkling wine and it was absolutely delicious. People were popping in for take away wine as well, which looked like a well priced and interesting selection. Lucky Rye to have this little gem.
Alison T — Google review
Popped in for what I intended as a quick drink last night to sample a wine from a local vineyard. I received a really friendly welcome. The place was buzzing with locals who chatted to me. Graham who runs it with his wife was so lovely and enthusiastic to talk about the wines. There is a really interesting selection by the glass at reasonable prices. I was really lucky that the local vineyard came in to run a pop up tasting so got to discuss the wine I was drinking and sample another with the loveliest lady, Chantelle. Ended up staying rather longer than planned. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend. I will definitely re-visit when next in Rye.

Without a doubt, the highlight of our Rye holiday. Superb selection of wines of all varieties (and they actually let you have a taste before committing! Take note, literally everywhere else). The best way to describe the atmosphere is like being invited into your favourite neighbours' front room where it's always Bank Holiday, and all the guests are jolly and just the right amount of tipsy. Dog friendly too!

I highly recommend this wine bar- it has great wine selection at very very reasonable if not too good prices. Especially if you want to drink fine wines (£30+) i think this is great as there is almost minimal mark up on the wines. Also, the shop owner is very friendly and nice. Highly recommended and will visit again personally!

What a gem in Rye. We wandered in here on a rainy Thursday afternoon and were greeted with such warmth by Graeme that we knew we'd found a great place. Graeme recommended some delicious wines and gave us some local tips about the area and where to eat etc. We came back again two days later for some more drinks and were welcomed back like regulars. If you're in Rye you must visit!

My sisters and I went to this wine bar for a drink before our meal and ended up going back for another glass after our meal! The wine was so smooth. The staff were amazing and so friendly! The George Grill, located in the heart of Rye, is an upscale hotel that seamlessly blends modern decor with historic charm. The 16th-century inn offers beautifully renovated Georgian ballrooms, bedrooms, a wood-beamed pub, and a grill restaurant. Guests can enjoy the terrace and garden views while taking advantage of amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi and concierge services. The on-site restaurant serves excellent fish and chips for dine-in or takeaway, cooked to perfection in beef fat.
I read several mixed reviews on TripAdvisor, some of which were terrible, but i was excited to find out for myself. I am glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious. I love a small menu with limited options because it's usually a good sign that each dish is done very well. In this case, that would seem to be true. I loved every bite, and there were no disappointments (except it being socially unacceptable to lick your plate clean). The drinks were very grown up, not much fan fare, but equally as delicious as the food. The service was wonderful, attentive, fun, and friendly wait staff. Simple food done very well. Excellent visit.

We seated in the main restaurant even with our Service dog. The restaurant was lovely really nice atmosphere music not too loud so we could easily talk. We had the steak and chips with peppercorn sauce and it was truly lovely. The Service by Dave was brilliant. He made my wife’s birthday really special. We would go back there again.

A Mixed Experience at The George Inn, Rye My girlfriend and I recently dined at The George Inn in Rye with my parents, and unfortunately, it proved to be a rather disappointing experience. While the historic charm of the inn itself is undeniable, the food fell far short of expectations. To start, my girlfriend ordered the leeks, which were disappointingly chewy. My mother's chicken dish was excessively sweet, lacking any savory balance. For our main courses, my parents both opted for the fish and chips, hoping for a classic pub staple. However, the fish was utterly bland and lacked any discernible flavor. I chose a cod stew, which, thankfully, was quite delicious. However, my side order of chips was inedible, overwhelmingly salty to the point of being unpleasant. The saving grace of our visit was the Guinness, which was undeniably excellent. Perhaps The George Inn is best suited for a casual drink, as their culinary offerings left much to be desired. Based on our experience, I would hesitate to recommend The George Inn for a meal. There are undoubtedly better options in Rye for those seeking a satisfying dining experience.

Excellent food location and service in the centre of Rye. I had a dinner with my girlfriend and I was pleasantly surprised how good the food and service was. Fantastic service and the dining area is very stylish and has excellent design. The menu is varied with so many choices for all different dietary requirements. The surf and turf was the same price as the separate gambas and steak mains added together and only came with 3 (albeit delicious) prawns. I suspect you may get more prawns if you ordered then separately. Great wine and cocktails as its part of the George In Rye which has a full bar. Highly recommended the Devon crab if its on the menu. Oysters are fresh and also delicious. I would recommend making a reservation to ensure you get a table.

The Mermaid Inn, located in Rye, England, is a 15th-century half-timbered inn known for its lavish period furnishings and rich history. Considered one of the most haunted inns in England, it was built in 1420 and is an authentic smugglers' inn with undeniable charm.
Tucked away on a charming cobbled street in the picturesque town of Rye, this beautiful historic building is home to a characterful 3-star hotel that's welcomed its fair share of celebrity guests over the years. If you're a history lover like me, here's a little gem! the cellars date all the way back to 1156! The building itself was rebuilt in 1420 after both it and much of the town were burned to the ground. The sense of history is everywhere you look. The bar is located at the back of the Inn and has so much charm. You enter through a quaint little door (which I loved!) into a cosy, atmospheric room full of original features and historic touches. The drinks selection isn't huge, but honestly, you'll want to order something just to soak in the surroundings. 1 absolutely loved it here. Full of charm, history, and character. Would return in a heartbeat!

Historical & Legendary Hotel We stayed here this summer one night with my family and absolutely loved it! We were staying in the Crow Nest room as it was the best room to accommodate a family of four and it was fabulous! We really enjoyed everything, the food the drinks the room. To be noted we did a three weeks trip in the UK and stayed in many places, but this hotel (in fact it not a hotel it is a real Inn), dating back from 15th century is the only one my family remembers and will continue discussing for the next few years I am sure. The staff was also great very friendly & helpful. The Mermaid Inn is also dog friendly (for some rooms I believe) which is great so we could have our Teddy with us. This Inn comes highly recommended from us, we will definitely stay in the Mermaid Inn the next time we are in the South of England.

Nice stay at hotel for 2 nights. Very atmospheric being such an old building with lots of knocks and crannies. Ate here one night and food was good albeit risotto rice needed a couple of minutes more of cooking. Staff were very friendly albeit seemed a bit under pressure in the restaurant (as are a lot nowadays). Breakfast was also good too. Nice stay - thank you!

What to say? The Mermaid is gorgeous. We have been to the Mermaid Inn on many occasions but this is the first stay we have had. We had a lovely 4 poster room, the bed was only a 4 foot 6, and it was too small but we coped, the ambiance compensated for the discomfort. The restaurant, staff, service, food quality was fabulous. Looking forward to continuing the Mermaid Inn visits to come in the near future.

A Bit Disappointing for a 4.6-Star I visited this restaurant for the first time after seeing its impressive 4.6-star rating, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. The food was not well cooked, and when I asked for it to be cooked a bit more, nothing was done. In addition, the staff forgot to bring the water for the kids and the sauce that was supposed to come with the meal. The service was polite, but these small mistakes and the quality of the food made the experience less enjoyable. I truly hope this was just an off day, as the place seems to have great potential. I won't go back again!😔

Went here just to eat lunch, and the person at the bar was so friendly. The food came and it was delicious good tartar sauce, a good fish finger burger, and great chips. There's loads of history I would go again. And now we have Stayed here and we got so mutch Paronormal activity we stayed in room 12 and we had a motion detecting catball and it went off 4 5 or 6 times and when we were sleeping i have a sleep app on my phone that can pick up noises and it picked up this clicking noise at like 3 or 4 am and when i woke up i could feel like i was being watched.

Restaurant
Dragon Bar, located at 71 George Street, is a popular spot known for its friendly atmosphere and vibrant vibe, especially during weekend DJ sessions. The bar showcases local artwork and offers freshly prepared, restaurant-quality meals with seasonal inspiration. Owned by two brothers from Hastings who also run a bar in London's Shoreditch, the venue attracts a young crowd and features a tiny kitchen that serves great-value food. Visitors can expect friendly staff and unique touches like the ladies' restroom set into the rock downstairs.
While on a trip to Hastings, we were hungry so we went looking for a place where we could eat well and where dogs were welcome. Walking through the old town along George Street, we visited many bars and restaurants until we finally reached the inconspicuous Dragon Bar. Maybe at first impression it is not very exposed, but we boldly entered inside. And we already knew it was a good choice! Although there is no sign that dogs are welcome, we found a place right next to the entrance with a view of the entire bar from where we could observe the guests. After a while, I was already at the bar, the polite bartender offered drinks, I must say that everyone will find something for themselves, from a soft drink, Guinness beer, Staropramen, wines and cocktails prepared on site. The menu is not very rich, but as it turned out later, the secret of Dragon Bar is not the number of dishes. We ordered grilled bass, mushrooms on the toast, smoked salmon fishcakes and tomato and thyme soup. We waited quite a long time, but considering that we weren't the only ones waiting, we hoped it would be worth it. And it was worth it! The dishes presented in a beautiful form (it would be a pity to destroy this work) tasted amazing, truly heaven in your mouth! Mushrooms on toast were full of mushroom flavor, thyme emphasized the taste, garlic toast complemented the taste and the whole thing was delicious, a poetry of taste. Grilled bass fish served with rice and bit of trace created a tasty composition, fresh fish and ingredients ensured the unique taste of the dish. grilled salmon fishcake is real poetry not only in appearance but also in taste. I have never eaten fishcake served this way. And the tomato soup mentioned was delicious, slightly spicy and tasty, and the grilled bread with topping took the taste sensations to a different level. Finally, we had two desserts served, cinnamon apple tarte with soft cream and the second dessert was rhubarb mousse with apple, crushed meringue and biscuit. everything tasted out of this world. It was worth waiting longer than usual for such a tasty treat. There was a nice, relaxed atmosphere in the bar, the staff were friendly and served the dishes with a smile. If you are a fan of good food and a friendly, unobtrusive atmosphere, you must visit Dragon Bar! Thank you very much for your visual and taste experiences. We highly recommend Dragon Bar! Oh and one more thing, it costs much less than it looks! Truly ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Dragon Bar

Perfect spot on a warm summers day for a cold pint of cider, some scrumptious oysters (although somewhat smaller than I was expecting) and fabulous service. An overhead fan cooled me down and the background music was great. Would visit again to try the paella.

Had an enjoyable lunch. Eat a lot of vegi food at home but rarely out. Opted for the vegi bean stew, rich, saucy, tasty, would definitely have again. The Mrs had the Caesar salad, she liked. Beer is fine, not that great a choice tbh. The service was hapless yet sharp in a very sweet way.

Great place for lunch. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced, service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately not the best experience. Watched customers meals sit on the counter for 6 minutes before it wee given to them, thankfully ours didn’t take as long, however the food we were served wasn’t great. The pickle on(not in) the beef burger was not my favourite tasting pickle I’ve had, the bun was soggy and falling apart as well. The grilled club chicken sandwich was not grilled and was cold, the filling was just chopped chicken and lettuce which is something that should be put in a wrap not a sandwich.

My go to bar in Hastings - Dragon Bar is a rustic bar, situated in the old town of Hastings, offering a great selection of drinks and a variety of food options on the menus from small plates and large plates. Dragon Bar hip, and edgy restaurant bar, with fresh and vibrant food options. With a tiny kitchen pumping out great options on the menu it is one of the better places to have a eat out in Hastings. Or a place to relax for drinks. It is on the rather more expensive a sides for a Resturant / bar in Hastings, however we’ll worth the price point. The bar is very scenic and has a good atmosphere. It is on the more causal side , being dog friendly, and more chill service to bare that in mind if you are expected top quality service. It has friendly staff but it is a more of a sit back and relax DIY order at bar kinda vibe.

Have just had a Sunday roast at this place. What can I say. Superbly presented. Tasted lovely. Staff excellent. Cant recommend this place enough. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Hastings.

Nestled in the charming village of Camber, Camber Landing is a delightful bar and restaurant that offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for relaxation. Known for its impressive selection of natural wines, this spot also serves up local, seasonal, and organic dishes that are sure to please any palate. Coffee enthusiasts will find it hard to resist their brew—often touted as the best in town—while those with a sweet tooth can indulge in delectable pastries like the famous gazillionaire slice.
Deserves support. Someone’s made a real effort to create a cool little coffee shop here. Love it !! - great if you have little people. There’s a corner with toys and things to keep them busy. While you have a coffe. Or a pint from the amazing selection of local beers.
Thomas B — Google review
Having visited Camber for many years, I'm delighted it now has this cafe / bar on what is a very sad little main road in the village. The cage has a lovely atmosphere, the coffee is great. We have never got there early enough to try any pastries and I'm nit going to soend £9+ on a plate of waffles! As Camber is such a tourist spot the prices are steep, but this is much nicer than the beach front places. Is dog friendly

My husband and I were looking for a place for coffee after having a Wonderful walk on Camber Beach... We found Camber Landing and got a warm welcome from staff member ISSI... She made us lovely coffees and toasted sandwich... There is various seating - we relaxed in comfy chairs looking out... Atmosphere, music in back ground great!!! We will be visiting again before our holiday break finishes...
Theresa S — Google review
Very chilled atmosphere. Easily the best coffee in Camber! Great selections of pastries and cakes - the gazillionair slice is both naughty and heavenly - highly recommend! Also a great selection of beers. Perfect place to drop into after a walk along the beach. Very kid friendly. We loved it so much, we found ourselves popping in almost everyday of our holiday! Oh and the home baked bread was beautiful! When we come back to Camber, Camber Landings will be the first place we’ll be popping in to!

Delicious coffee and pastries for a great co-working vibe in the morning, with a smooth transition to after work beers in the sunshine. The margaritas on tap are a particular highlight. Overall, a very cool and relaxing new spot in Camber and the staff are excellent - super friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

Ordered a toastie, but didn’t stay to eat it because the poor hygiene practice really put me off - barista (with longish sandy coloured hair) was using his bare fingers to scrape stuff off forks back into jars - and using the same hand to shove fallen cheese into his mouth as well as scraping some from the table back into the cheese bucket, and using the same hand to wipe off the sides without hand washing in between. Service was also very slow despite it not being very busy when we ordered. The coffee was also very small for the price and not great. The tables were not wiped in between customers. Only redeeming feature was nice decor and being the only toilet we could find near the beach.
Cora W — Google review
Went there yesterday during our visit of Camber beaches in this heat wave, to have a bit of cold beer. The young lady behind the bar was delightful and very kind. She would let my wife sample beer and also filled her water bottle. We got to try the local Camber lager which was some of the best beer I've tasted in the UK. Great place to visit!
Peter D — Google review
I ordered 2 x cheese sandwich and coffee, but the experience was disappointing. The staff member behind the counter showed very poor hygiene — he stopped eating his own food to prepare mine, handled multiple items without washing his hands, and even petted dogs before touching our sandwich again and never washed his hands once to make my Sandwich. It was off putting, and I couldn’t bring myself to eat it. The coffee was also below standard, the coffee tasted “burnt” and milk was quite lumpy. This place has potential as it was a great atmosphere and lovely service, but food quality and hygiene standards urgently need improvement. Thanks you.

20Rye Waterworks Brewery

Brewery
Rye Waterworks Brewery, an extension of the successful Waterworks micropub in Rye's town center, opened its Taproom in late October 2022. Managed by the same team, this brewery offers its signature beer, UrRYEnal, a 3.7% bitter always available on handpump. In addition to local guest beers during winter, visitors can enjoy a wide selection of ciders and beers with a laid-back atmosphere and friendly vibe.
Took the bus from Rye (a short journey) to visit the brewery on a quiet, sunny Friday. It’s just a rough bar counter and a few tables and chairs (some outside) this isn’t a criticism. I didn’t come for the decor, I came for the beer…and very good it is too. Sausage roll was also tasty. Just a few others (locals) enjoying the beer as well. I believe they have music some evenings when it would certainly liven up but if you want to try their beers in a livelier atmosphere, they are all available in their pub in Rye itself without the need for a bus or a walk. Personally I enjoyed peacefully contemplating a decent pint of Pissoir Porter.

Popular place to spend time with friends, listening to great music and drinking locally made cider,Gin and Ales. It's worth the ride out of Rye.

I visited yesterday and had a jolly time, lots of ciders and beers to choose from. Nice vibe with plenty of people to talk to. Laid back position from the road. Will def be going back.

A fabulous local brewery and social 'thing' with live music. We stumbled over it through staying in a hotel across the road, and it was the best bit of our road trip. Thoroughly recommended. Who knew that Rye rocks?

Nice addition to the amazing Waterworks in Rye, some great tasting ales, dreamy scotch eggs, nice views to boot.

Great tap house / brewery full of local characters super friendly great selection of bears and ciders a must, please go il be back
Mark E — Google review
The place convivial and the welcome was warm and friendly. It was a lovely evening to sit outside in the countryside. The selection of beer was good though not as extensive as the waterworks pub in town. To be honest I’m not sure I really want to sit and drink in a brewery amongst all the paraphernalia of beer making. Some people obviously do.

The Brewery Yard Club is a cosy bar in the town centre that's open to the public for drinks and socialising. The live music performances are amazing, and it's one of the best places in town to meet friends.
Was there last night for the drag queen bingo. I can honestly say it was the best night I've had in a very long time. From start to finish it was brilliant. Would 100% recommend it. Already planning another night there. Well done for such an amazing night. Colette and gang. From London and Rye

Jane and her team were brilliant throughout the evening - very warm and friendly. The Brewery Yard Club is such a great venue with a lovely cosy atmosphere but more than enough room for our 60 guests. We had a fabulous evening, thank you.

We came for the Rye Get Down DJ Night. Always a friendly welcome and the drinks, including cocktails were good. The DJs played some excellent music. We had a good time but it was very quiet which was a real shame. Hope to come again when it is busier and more atmosphere. We have also seen live music here. It is a really nice venue and deserves to be successful.

Had a great time here at a recent friends weekend away in Rye. Really fun Halloween Quiz with dressing up rounds and general silliness. The cocktails were great and the staff super friendly. Would recommend!
Laura G — Google review
An excellent, well resourced and stylish space for my training session today. Jane was there to welcome us and made sure we had everything we needed. A brilliant alternative to soul less corporate venues, great attention to detail from high end refreshments to spacious conference room. Cannot recommend highly enough.

What a fantastic night we had New year's eve. Great service from Jane and her team, lovely cocktails, so welcoming. We will definitely go back. If you're think of a party venue, take a look.
