Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Ulaanbaatar

Lately I had a chance to check this place out. Hazard is listed first in the list of the best restaurants in Ulaanbaataar, and I will try to debunk this false statement. Let me start with the overall setting and mood of the place. Safety first. Not enough light in the middle area where there is a staircase to the second floor. I almost tripped and fell because I didn't see where the steps were. I mean, my eyesight is good, I don't wear eyeglasses. The second issue with safety is tables. They wobble a lot, and you can spill your hot drink. Also, these tables have done kind of studs poking out, making the surface of the table really uneven, adding to the risk of spilling hot drinks. I'm gonna provide videos of the table, so you can check them out on your own. These tables are uncomfortable to sit at as well you have to spread your legs really wide as if you are giving a birth to a child. Next up is noisy setting. Of course, popular places get Noisy all the time, but if the restaurant says they have partitions, they gotta be good partitions made of some kinda solid material, not these thin curtains with cut windows and u can see people sitting in the next partitions. Photo is provided. As for waitresses or servants, they are really nice. Doing their job really good. But I feel bad for them, because they need to walk up and down this staircases thousand times percday. They might have developed really strong legs. As for the food, 8 out of ten. But naan was cold. Who serves cold naans in an Indian restaurant?lentil was good. One big minus is that they don't have proper teas in teapots. They should consider adding some good tea to their menu, in addition to massala tea. That's it.

Service is quick and friendly. Food is different from most Indian restaurants here. Overall not bad.

I have visited Hazara several times when I’ve been in UB. The atmosphere is inviting and friendly. The food smells and tastes amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend!

Just moved to UB and this is definitely going to be a regular place to eat. A mix of healthy and comfort food ranging from western to traditional Mongolian, and all vegan. This is a rare luxury in UB and very glad to have come here.

Great Mongolian classics in vegan form. The dumpling soup was a highlight of clean subtle soup with creamy mashed peanut dumplings was superb. The Mongolian plate for main was decent, but not mind blowing. Better than loving hut but vegans should check out bosque verde, which edges it for mine.

Amazing service, delicious smoothies, and great main dishes. Large portions. We got the power lunch, Sichuan tofu, and kimchi stew, as well as a couple of smoothies and can definitely recommend all of it.

I’ve had spinach mushroom pasta and special salad, which was beetroot spinach orange and some nuts with sauce. It was very delicious and fresh! I could only complain about the size.. too much. Don’t want to see anything thrown away so I just ate it all. Very modern place with young friendly stuff. English menue

It's a vegan restaurant centrally located in the city with a very cool ambiance and calm environment. Good variety of food, very friendly staff and quick service. If you want to try some vegan food in UB you must try this restaurant. Food taste is great. Highly recommended 👍🏻

It was a great pleasure—not just for the eyes, but for my taste buds too! I absolutely love Modern Nomads. I waited 3 years to try their new menu, and it was totally worth it. While we were dining, there was a live performance of Mongolian folk dance and music—such a beautiful atmosphere! I truly love this place and feel so proud of our brothers and sisters who created something so special. It’s the kind of place that leaves you with the most precious memories. ❤️🇲🇳

Nomads was recommended by a local for authentic Mongolian food. The decor in the restaurant was stunning. The horse meet appetizer was delicious. I also tried the lamb dumplings, which were also amazing.

The restaurant ambience is perfect! You can feel the vibes of mongolia. Food was okay. Service was excellent. Staffs were accomodating, even though we can't understand each other, we managed to communicate smoothly 😂. Their noodle "Japanese tourist" was delicious. The noodle was so good and the meat was so fresh. The serving was big, normally for 1 person but it can be shared by two😂. Could have been tried all their other dishes but maybe next time. The noodle paired with mongolian tea was a good idea😂. That was my first time. Perfection combination 👌. Their cappuccino was good too!☕☕

Visited this restaurant for lunch during my recent trip to Mongolia. The restaurant is nicely decorated. It is a restaurant cum pub/bar/karaoke (night time) and a stage for musical performance but I believe the band plays Mongolian music. So do not expect Bon Jovi or Maroon 5 songs. They serve Mongolian food as well as Mongolian milk tea, which is essentially cow’s milk mixed with water and salt. A very unique taste. But I love the Mongolian soup. I ordered the beef soup that comes with a piece of the bone marrow and dumplings with beef and of course, big chunks of tender beef. It is filling to a hungry stomach! Excellent. Met my old Mongolian friend and his family here for a nice big dinner. We ordered a good few dishes.....the lambs head dish, some beef, some stir fries, some chicken dishes, some beef tongue...... all great, all delicious, all fabulous. The beef was my favourite, the sauce it was covered in was so good! Over some beer, and good food, and the kids also got some ice cream, we all had a great time. Lovely decor and good friendly and efficient service. This visit to experience some traditional Mongolian food and with my friend and his oh so cute family, was definitely a highlight of my trip to UB. Strongly recommended ,

Disappointed Despite Great Atmosphere The service girl kindly recommended this dish, and I was excited to try it. The atmosphere of the place was nice – traditional nomadic live music and long songs created beautiful atmosphere. However, the food was a big letdown. The meat tasted old, and there was an added flavoring that was unpleasant and overpowering. I expected much better from a place with such a great setup. Sadly, the food completely ruined the experience for me. won’t go to nomads chain again … until I hear they make it better ! I wouldn’t recommend this place. If you’re looking for good Mongolian food, you’d be better off visiting a smaller local canteen. They often serve more authentic and better-quality dishes. I paid 42,000 MNT (about 12 USD) for just one dish and a glass of water – not worth it at all.

So disappointed! We ordered Khuushuur and Bituu soup, and the meal took over 50 minutes to arrive. The food was such a letdown, especially considering it wasn’t cheap. The meat tasted old and of poor quality. After eating, I felt nauseous and my stomach was upset — even though I’m Mongolian. Such a sad experience. Don’t go there if you don’t want to upset your stomach!

The food is tasty and authentically Indian, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. The waiter confirmed that the chicken is halal. Portions are generous, so I’d recommend ordering half portions

Was craving Indian food after a few days touring. This was an excellent choice. Food was generous and aptly spiced. What elevated it was the warm and friendly service of the male Indian server. He made sure I ordered the right amount of spice, checked on me every so often and was a genuine plus to this restaurant. Definitely a great choice in the area.

For a while, UB was a real mecca for Indian Food. Then, most of the Indian Restaurants in town went a bit downhill. Not so this place! It is the total gem of UB. Best Indian Food I've had since I was in Akra. Two Indian guys in the back cooking. Fabulous. If you're looking for table-cloths and candlelight, go elsewhere. If you're looking for the best Tikka Masala ever produced this is it. They appear to do a significant takeout business also.

Excellent food with rich satisfying flavours and enormous portions. A half portion here is almost equivalent to a full UK portion! Good value too. The service was very friendly and we were not rushed at all during our meal. We were provided with plastic cartons to take home what we couldn’t finish! Would highly recommend.

The food is very tasty. Just a little too salty. Wish they have extra hot sauce customers could use.

It’s a 100% famous turistic place, called “Irish” but with almost ANY kind of Irish food or drink (at least the beer , but nope). The waiters are very kind, but service is extremely long, especially for grill: I’ve been told a waiting time of 40 minute and it was 1h30’… and the meat arrived cold… ultimate comment: the grill was producing an incredible quantity of smoke, obliging several customers to move the table meters away from their position… ASVISABLE IF: you want a different place to eat instead of the Mongolian traditional restaurants. NOT ADVISABLE IF: you hope to find an Irish pub and an Irish beer… for my experience not a good place in a city offering so many variety of restaurant.

Grandkhaan Irish Pub, commonly known among Mongolians simply as “Irish Pub,” has been around for 20 years. In addition to offering a wide variety of beers, the food here is truly outstanding. Not only Mongolians but also many foreign travelers praise this place. With both indoor and outdoor terrace options, it provides plenty of seating choices.

I guess that this is the only Irish Pub in UB. great vibe with beers and cocktail. The signature mojito is excellent here and I find the Mongyu beef rather tasty too. it is as equally as good as Wagyu or Kobe. The local Mongol cuisine is also available here as great too. However, it is Irish pub. it is not hard to just skip Mongol cuisine and go for traditional pub dish here. All in all, a great place to drink and hangout all day long.

It's alright, but a bit overpriced for the area. The music is a bit loud and service is alright.

An Irish pub like this you would not find in Ireland. Large seating area inside and outside. TV screens everywhere. Cool place to watch the wrestling during Naadaam. Food is little slow but huge portions.

Old reliable pub that’s been a staple for older Mongolians and expats for a few decades now. It can be a frustrating experience getting the attention of the waiters (order everything you need in one go during peak hours) and the food is definitely on the expensive side by Mongolian standards but it’s a fine establishment all the same. They have VIP rooms on the second floor as well. Burger and sausages are genuinely pretty good.

I recently tried the Carbonara. While the sauce had a nice, rich flavor that I really enjoyed, the spaghetti itself felt a bit firm. It could have been cooked to a slightly softer texture to balance better with the creamy sauce. Additionally, the bread served alongside felt unnecessary, especially since the Carbonara itself was already quite firm. While the flavor of the sauce stood out, the overall dish could use some improvement in texture.

Went around 3:30~pm for a late lunch and had to wait around 40 minutes for the order. Food was good, albeit the lettuce they used with the falafel should have been tossed out a few days ago, but no big deal. Service was quick and pleasant. Atmosphere was ok, but some people day drinking heavily nearby were a bit loud.

From their menu /which was written detailed information about ingredients/, ordered Mexican salad to takeaway. But when I got the salad, only half of the ingredients were in the box. If there’s shortage of veggies, you don’t need to receive the order!! 0 value of money.

Really cool place. Staff can speak English very well. Food are tasty. The mood is so unique and free. But plz get here with your friend if you wanna try pizza and beer.

Nice little place. Was hungry so wanted my breakfast and something filling so went for an old reliable, an English breakfast with a pot of tea. Service was fine, and the food came quick enough. The English breakfast was pretty damn good, albeit the sausages were more Germanic than normal, but as we are far away from old Blighty I wont be complaining too much. It was pretty good fare, and filled me up. Well presented too. It took a while for the milk to come with the English breakfast tea, but it did come eventually! I don't think they got the memo that you need to drink milk with breakfast tea! Ordered a local draft beer, and man it was good, very cool, and lovely and refreshing after my breakfast. I really liked the decor in the place, and they also had a lot of greenery, especially hanging from the ceilings and from above, interesting. Even though it was early the place already had a good vibe and its a chilled out place, without being pretentious. I liked it here and strongly recommend this as a place to take it easy and relax as the day goes by. Bill came to just under 9 Euros, which wasnt too bad at all, me thinks.

Favorite pub in UB. Went here almost every evening. N pretty nice atmosphere. Food is okay, nothing special. They struggling some times with glasses and draft beer.

First experience in an authentic Mongolia food in this restaurant. Overall is an superb experience and food is delicious. Had many various type of local food and all taste very good. The only short coming that I would feedback is the slow wait for the food. Took more than 30 min before the 1st dish is served.

Very enjoyable dining experience. I had the covered mutton soup and beef tongue on mashed potatoes with salad. Everything was excellent. Service was attentive to the button I was given and the food took about 30 minutes to come out. Highly recommend. Price was perfect.

Expect that you possibly will need to wait for a free table. Food was so-so. My friend enjoyed Mongolian food though. Maybe it’s not the best restaurant to come for non Mongolian dish (I had pasta). Most of the waiters speak English. Nice view from the terrace.

Came here for Mongolian food but was refused to enter the restaurant. The Mongolian staff informed that non-reservation is not welcomed though I saw 90% of tables at that time were available. No one waited. Additionally, there was a review saying that walk-in is acceptable. I was very curious about the reservations that she mentioned, so I checked how to reserve but found no information and no reservation gateways in the official page. I think she didn’t say the truth about the reservations. If tables are truly fully booked, it’s ok. Just inform me that “Sorry, tables are fully booked” but she did not say that. I hope this is not discrimination. I communicated with staff in English so the language should not be a problem to enter the restaurant.

Great service and great food on the 4th floor. We ordered the Mongolian platter and it was for 4 people. The food is really good and diversified. I recommend this restaurant.

A popular wine and dine spot and our usual go-to for dinner dates. The atmosphere has a nice Mediterranean vibe with vintage touches. Lately, though, the service has been slipping (likely due to new staff?). Last night there were just three servers for a full house, and they seemed overwhelmed. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold inside, which shouldn’t be blamed on the outside weather alone. I usually go for the pizza, which is still one of the best in the city. Their hummus, steaks and steak salad are excellent too. This time I tried the lamb souvlaki, but it was disappointing. Overseasoned, salty, and the side dishes were all sharp—sauerkraut, balsamic greens, raw onions. The whole plate felt overly sour and intense. Still, it’s a trusted place for group dinners in a city with limited options. But at this price point, they really need to maintain their once-great service and food quality.

Every member of our dining party enjoyed their food, and this was the highlight. The lighting and decor makes this restaurant a really delight to experience. Although service was somewhat slow, it’s well worth a visit for great food and good ambience.

The staff was nice and friendly, but the food was mid and everything in this restaurant was overpriced. If you ask me to choose between Chipotle (or even Taco Bell) and this restaurant, I would prefer Chipotle though 🤷‍♂️ Plus, I thought it may not a good place for bringing the family up (especially if they speak English) since they played some songs with inappropriate lyrics.

We ordered food for nine people. The food was great, and everyone was satisfied. However, the interior decoration is quite old and needs renovation.

I remember first time ordering a burger from them (a couple years ago) and the portion was enormous!!!! It came with fried potatoes and a side of salad (all included into the price). And a year later I ordered the same burger and it was tiny and came with nothing. Overall the food is good, just the add mayo to every single dish.

A Mexican-American (“Chicano”) Review: —FOOD: I ordered the “Enchilada Con Frejoles”, yet not a single frijole (bean) could be found. It would have decent to be informed by the kitchen staff that they were out of frijoles so I could order something different, instead I was given an overcooked tortilla filled with chicken. To call this an enchilada is false to say the least. This was filled only with bland chicken and with barely any sauce. I honestly enjoyed the salad more than the main course. The only things I can positively say is that there was some effort in presentation and the chicken wasn’t dry at least. —SERVICE: NOTE: The waitress was a nice young lady and I commend her for her well treatment of me, tending to all the customers, and the establishment itself. So she is the reason for there being even a single star rather than zero. So the service rating is objectively concerning the restaurant as a whole during my lunch-hour visit. She alone was tending to me and the other customers (upstairs and downstairs) while also tending to other tasks such as preparing napkins, silverware, and such. Meanwhile, three employee men with the same attire and the bartender sat around the bar talking with their backs turned to all the customers. A shameful display… —ATMOSPHERE: The name of this place is clever and catchy. The interior design is very nice and is well decorated. I liked what I saw and I especially liked how they cleverly wrapped the pillars with many different mexicano and chicano themed films. This made me feel a little more at home, but unfortunately the music being played killed what could have been a 5 star-rating for ambience. Rather than having Mexican or Chicano music playing it was predominantly Mongolian rap music and some Mongolian pop music (some of which I personally like). It seemed as though it was what the three Mongol amigos wanted to listen to rather than giving the customers a Mexican ambiance. In conclusion, I was honestly looking forward to visiting this place when I found it on Google. I’m disappointed to say the least. There are a two things we Mexicans do well: work hard and make one of the greatest foods in the world. In my opinion, the Mongols and other peoples visiting Ulaanbaatar deserve to know what our food truly tastes like. I must concur with a previous review that this is more of a “Mexi-Can’t” and due to the price of the meal it felt like I got “Mexi-Conned”.

I went to a Mexican restaurant in Ulaanbaatar because I was craving spicy food. The staff at the restaurant spoke English, and the restaurant was good, but my choice of dish was not great. I ordered nachos, but ended up eating a mountain of tortilla chips that didn’t include any meat or cheese. Next time, I’ll try ordering a burrito or enchiladas.

I grew up with Mexican food in Arizona so when I travel I always seek out comida. This place should be called Mexi-can't because the food doesn't quite cut it, but the locals don't seem to notice— on a Friday the place is bustling.

Great food with nice mix of Mexican and Caribbean taste. Dish size is quite enormous but still tastes well till the last bite. Definitely will come back and recommend to everyone. One of the very few Mexican foods you could find in the metropolitan.

We had a lunch set for two, it had rice and light soup, accompanied by4-5 side dishes. Its located at the 3rd floor of Shangri la hotel, bit pricey but meets the price expectations.

Hutong was a great dining experience overall — the atmosphere was stylish, the service attentive, and most of the dishes were well-executed. However, I was genuinely shocked by how disappointing their steamed dumplings were. In a Chinese restaurant, dumplings are one of the most fundamental dishes, and unfortunately, these were dry, stale, and lacking in flavor. We both agreed they were probably the worst dumplings we’ve ever had — even store-bought frozen ones would have been better. That said, the rest of the meal was solid enough to still warrant a 4-star rating, but I really hope they revisit their dumpling recipe.

Somewhat disappointed from the food of Hutong in UB. It wasn’t bad, but also wasn’t the best. The worst dish were the dumplings with prawns and onion, the dough was really not good and the filling was mostly egg? Portions are very generous and two dishes are more than enough for two people. Service was ok, we didn’t wait too long for the food, about 30-40 min. But the waters don’t speak a good English. The interiors are nice and the vibe is relaxed.

This review is for a dinner we had last September, but the experience was so memorably poor that it has stuck with me. For a restaurant located within a prestigious five-star hotel, we were anticipating a phenomenal meal. What we received was anything but. The main issue was the food itself. We ordered 3 different main courses and an appetizer, which were shockingly bland. The promise of dynamic, high-end Chinese cuisine fell completely flat, with each dish lacking the vibrant flavors and thoughtful execution one would expect at this price point. However, the most bewildering moment of the night came when we ordered a bottle of Spanish red wine. It was brought to our table warm!! When we politely pointed this out to the manager, we were informed, without a hint of apology, that the restaurant does not have a wine cooler! Let me repeat that: a restaurant in a five-star hotel does not have the basic equipment to serve wine at its proper temperature. This is a fundamental failure in hospitality and something I have never encountered at an establishment of this supposed caliber. Needless to say, we are not going back!

Hutong specializes in Northern Chinese cuisine—think expertly prepared Beijing duck, Mapo tofu, Kung Pao Chicken, hot pot dishes, and dim sum. Came here especially for Cantonese Delighs menu. Everything tasted super good, portions were fine. The prices were upscale for signature dishes. The service leaves much to be desired. Lack of stuff made us wait for a long time, the waitress was just skipping us.

Nice Chinese Restaurant, quite authentic! I recommend the Beijing Duck.

My family went during Lunar New Year for 4 a table and ordered Whole Duck set . Enjoyed with stunning Atmosphere and Manager’s services He is absolutely helpful what we needed . But the Beijing Duck was not really good enough unfortunately However The other menus pretty good . Too greasy . Not Crispy at all we have never had like this Roasted Duck .

Staff were friendly, and the environment was very nice. The drinks were great, and while the appetizer and main dish sides were quite similar, they were still enjoyable. My steak was first served well-done, but the staff quickly offered to recook it for medium-rare. The second attempt came out medium-well — better than the first, but still not quite right. Despite this, I still recommend the restaurant and am willing to give it a second chance.

The best menu I've found in the city. Good quality products and meals. Simple decor with elements of Mongolian tradition. The worst thing is the service. The waitress is nice and smiling but doesn't know her job, very unprofessional. She won't manage without good training. But the kitchen defends itself so I'll be back.

Service staff were kind though I couldn’t speak the language. Food was impeccable, absolutely loved the pork ribs!! Not sure if I would order the roast chicken mezza again (it’s like a mediterranean pizza) as i’m not a fan of cheese sauce but even so, that was super flavourful and everything went so well together. I cleaned my plates haha. Passionfruit iced tea was also super yum!! Update: I came back a second time, this time the chicken skewers were kind of dry and the passionfruit tea was too sweet, pork ribs were also not as tender.. sad

It was the worst steak I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered a T-bone, but I have no idea what I was actually served—the meat was very tough. As for the vegetable salad they brought, I have nothing to say… Finally, I wanted to order a dessert, but they told me they only had ice cream. I really, really didn’t like this place at all.

I had the pumpkin soup and lamb chops. The soup was just OK, kind of bland. The lamb chops came out well done. Waste of perfectly good baby sheep. This was totally my fault for not specifying. I assumed the server would ask, and when he didn't, I just let it go. Lamb chops were still tasty, but would have been fantastic medium rare. The pumpkin mash with chickpeas that came with it was awesome....how the soup should have been seasoned.... A little allspice/cinnamon/clove something. Very good. I had on jeans and sneakers with a pullover shirt. I felt grossly underdressed. I would have left when I walked in, but I was literally the only one there (very early dinner). Collared shirt and slacks for sure. No sneakers.

I like that the restaurant has balanced dishes though one full meal was not filling for me😁 They are also one of a few restaurants that have kids’ menu with various options. Here’s what we’ve had: - grilled salmon - chicken skewers (kids’ menu) - beef kofta (strangely couldn’t find this dish in their online menu🙈)

This restaurant serves pretty good food. Though steak was a bit too fatty, overall was good. Customer service based on my encounters has much room of improvement in mongolia. This applies to the manager at this restaurant. She wasn't rude, but just not kind and don't leave a good feeling. Ambience was good. We kind of enjoy sitting there, enjoying our slow lunch. I could have given a 5 star if not because of its service level.

We started with the ravioli which was ok and then had the beef ribs and a creamy truffle pasta with mushrooms. The beef rib dish was generous although some may find it quite fatty. The pasta dish was light on truffle flavour. We had the raspberry iced tea to drink which was lovely, sweet and refreshing. The service was good as was the location.

The restaurant offers varieties of lunch menu set, which were nice. Desserts at this restaurant is very disappointing, not many choices. One service boy was kind of rude, he had that annoyed expression to us like we were forcing him to work there. But other service people was quiet normal. The atmosphere is cozy but it was really dark (bad lighting interior), the terrace of this restaurant is really nice. Overall, a mid restaurant with great lunch menus. Solid 3.5 out of 5.

This is a really cute trendy place. My group had lunch here. Have a wine menu and the variety on the food menu is nice. We all enjoyed our dishes. Food is fresh and well made. Depending on when you dine may affect the service quality. I didn't receive the soup I ordered until everyone else had finished their meals.

They listed four red wines that were available by the glass. After ordering one, I was told none were available, and offered white instead. Since I was on my own a bottle was too much and I don't like white wines, so I decided to skip a drink. It seems like poor management for a "wine lounge" to not have any red wine options available by the glass. I also tried to order the pork chops and was told they weren't available. I decided to go safe with some pasta, which they had. It was okay, as was the service. I would have liked to sit and enjoy a couple glasses of red wine, but instead I just had a quick pasta and was gone within 30 minutes. Unremarkable experience, unfortunately.

I had visited this restaurant a year ago and had a wonderful experience, but unfortunately, this time was disappointing. The atmosphere, which was once warm and cozy, felt cold and uncomfortable during my recent visit. Additionally, I was served a full bottle of tea meant for one person, which felt unnecessary. The risotto, a dish I had high hopes for, was not as tasty as expected. I hope the restaurant can bring back the charm and quality it once had, as I know it has potential. Sadly, this visit didn’t live up to my previous experience.

The tacos I had here were absolutely amazing and one of few vegetarian options I was able to find in Ulaanbaatar. I did get them to go because the restaurant was very crowded and practically a party. Would be fun, just not alone. Highly recommend the mushroom tacos!

The food is flavorful, well‑crafted, and perfect for sharing if you’re 2😅 the portions are too small for their prices. But the bites were delicious I must say. Best tequila in the neighborhood, take a pint of classic one. The music and vibe is good. It gets really loud so you can barely hear anything. There’s a pool to play, but some customers may be rude to you and not let you play. There are several sitting areas: indoor, at the bar, outside (summer), open kitchen and private rooms.

Great time. Food was surprisingly good( we are in middle of Mongolia and this was good Mexican food). Tequila was good. I went late on a Saturday night and was no issue getting a table or bar seat. Service was good. They have an outdoor seating area so I don't know why people say you cant smoke(unless they don't allow but not sure). Ya it was a bit noisy as most Mexican restaurants are but thats how I like it. They have pool tables as well.

Remarkable choice for a special date. It'd be what you'd call a fusion cuisine. The menu has good versatility though I don't agree on its pricing. A good place to start if you'd like to get a grasp on finessed cuisine. The place had a hot launch but has since degraded in every aspect. When I last came here, I couldn't hold a conversation without spitting on my company or putting my mouth in their ears thanks to their brilliant music. The ventilation system seemed to have failed as we became barbecues by the time we left. The churros I ordered had a deceptive look as it had a mushy texture. A big disappointment.

The food is very average and very blend. And everyone was shouting at each other because the music is really really loud. We asked multiple time to turn down the volume but they turn it up! Everyone is suffer so please have better service. We asked for sauces that also never come as well. The cocktail also extremely sweet so please avoid the Margaritas

Young, hip, fancy and loud are the first things come to my mind when entering the place. A great location with different seating areas and a very attentive and great service team. Food arrives fast, is well presented and tasty. Only the spicy dishes are in my eyes too spicy. I enjoyed my visit and will for sure come back again

During my visit, I experience good customer service in connection to kindness. If you look at the picture of my meal, are you able to find a picture to match in the eatery's menu? I'm familiar with available Vegan options in the local Vegan market: I mention so because I like to buy a similar variety of Vegan chicken nuggets (in the meal in the picture of what I receive for my order) from a local Vegan market. Reviewing the meal in the picture (which I receive as my order); the chicken nuggets taste best to me with rice and salad on top after a dip in the creamy-sweet sauce; the ingredients taste better together than apart, to me. The interior of the eatery is calm, chill, and down to earth (I like wood as a part of interior/ decorating). The eatery accepts different forms of payment.

Nothing to complain about all perfect. I had great vegan food. The menu is not in English but I used google translate to scan it. The staff spoke English.

Beautiful place with very nice deco. Decent food with lots of variety. Had the Mongolian bone soup, that could be tastier. Didn't really have much taste, so a lot of the dishes, I needed to dip into the peanut and soy sauce. Otherwise, a very nice environment for dinner with friends.

The interior is quite nice and lively, service is polite and fast but the food is just OK at best. Majority of the menu is hot pot related but they have a few items they prepare in-house. Reasonably priced.

Wonderful! We had all the types of meats, in this private little room for 12 people. Even horse meat! Which, to be honest had the same flavor to the normal cow meat we eat everywhere. These rich flavours of the food, the cleanliness of the place, everything perfect. We all got our own hot pot, and the center table goes around so you go grabing your own meat, noodles, dumplings anything you want and cook it in there. The fried rice comes ready and is brutal!

First time try horse meat. The meat is tender. Cow and lamb are fresh. Everyone has their own hotpot, tempureture easy to control.

We used to come here very often but every time they didn’t have something from the menu. The worst was for our vegetarian friend. The rest was ok. They have a plenty of table +vip floor.

A bit of old vibes 🕰️ Food is actually not bad. The ambiance is with a touch of elegance, and the outdoor patio was perfect on a warm evening. We started with a fresh salad, which was vibrant and perfectly dressed with a light vinaigrette that complemented the crisp greens. The Merlot we paired it with was a great choice from their extensive wine list. (smooth and well-balanced). The spicy seafood soup had just the right kick and I’d say the spice level was mild enough for most palates. We also tried a variety of other dishes, including the fillet steak. Overall, Le Bistrot Français is a gem in Ulaanbaatar for anyone craving refined French cuisine with a welcoming vibe. Recommended.

To start with the positive, nice setting, comfortable tables and chairs, nice glasses and cutlery, amicable staff (which is usually the case in UB), food of decent quality. Then the not positive: a good portion of the menu is unavailable (and it takes forever to order because of back and forth with the kitchen), beef will always be served super well done regardless of customer’s desire, waiting times are long for food to arrive in spite of few diners in the restaurant.

I went to Rock Salt primarily because of the Himalayan Salt Rock plate gimmick. To my surprise, they had no menu items in stock that used the Salt plate. Half of there menu wasn't available. This has come to be the norm at "nicer" looking places in Mongolia. The food was.presented well, but nothing special. The service was ok, which is a step above most other local places (I'm looking at you Nomads). The atmosphere is nice and cozy. Definitely do not expect all the advertised dishes to be available.

I liked a lot this restaurant located in UB downtown near the city centre and best hotels. The atmosphere was warm and very hi-classy, and the service professional and polite. The food was good, especially the dessert: a very strange one with a taste I never tried in my life, amazing! also meat was good, some different kind of in the same plate, well presented. The price is honest compared to food and service. I've found also a good IPA Americn beer. Wine list seems to be complete, without low segment quality.

This place is far from good. They pretend/want to be a high quality restaurant, but have a really long way to go. I had to come back after a big disappointment to see If I was only unlucky the first time. It is clearly a kitchen that don't know how to treat meat or vegetables. I asked for medium cooked lamb rack, and it was served cremated. Driest meat I have ever tried. Vegetables was overcooked. Seems like the kitchen is sleeping some when cooking. And there is way to many things on the menu that they don't have. One star for some interesting wines and one star for interior ( even if the lamps are fake )

Having eaten here on three separate occasions, I can confidently say that this restaurant is quite appalling. The food is not fitting to the prices charged, even the lunch menu is awful. Service staff are not trained. Management have no idea. On one occasion a patron took it upon themselves to walk into the kitchen and abusive kitchen staff, then feigned a heart condition. Management did nothing, whilst every other patrons night was disrupted.

After eating mutton for nine days while touring the Gobi, we were more than ready to enjoy some urban lifestyle in Ulaanbaatar. Being too tired from traveling, we thought to give the hotel restaurant a try. Sukura was able to take us in that evening. Our family is quite spoiled with amazing Japanese cuisine in San Francisco, and that unintentionally sets a high bar. To our surprise, Sakura was excellent and beyond our expectations. My wife ordered quite a bit of food, of which none was wasted. The sushi was fresh and beautifully served. We also had fried chicken, nigiri, tamago, miso.... Everything was delightfully prepared and served beautifully. We were seated in a private room where we were able to order food and listen to music from an iPad. This was nice, but it could have been nicer. The battery was dying on the iPad, and the music was very distorted. We ended up turning off the music. Also, the call button didn't seem to attract the server. I ended up going outside the room to look for help. Not a bad thing, but the restaurant was quite empty, so.... But that's being picky. Overall, the experience was fantastic, and I would highly recommend dining at Sakura.

Generally I feel their sushi’s a wee bit overpriced but it was great. Also it felt to me that the waitress was trying to be overly formal and professional which I’m personally not a fan of (asking me the Mongolian equivalent of “may I take thine coat for safekeeping?”). Nice interior. Located on the second floor of the hotel with the set I got below costing just a bit under 70k.

While the sushi itself was pretty fresh and tasty, the service was not so great - the staff forgot our drinks and part of the order (misu soup and salad) and we had to remind them again and again, also helping them understand how their menu is constructed, pretty annoying. Atmosphere wise - no music nor anything interesting.. Just awkward.

I hear that they just opened just over a year. It’s located on the 2nd floor of Kempinski Hotel. Ulaanbaatar isn’t well-known for Japanese cuisine but this place is worth a visit. I dined here recently. Ordered a mixed beef and seafood grill set and the presentation and overall quality of the food was really good, right down to the type of dipping shoyu they use. Nothing was over cooked. Portions were just right. The set meal I ordered plus beverages costs around $65 for two. For the quality, that’s a pretty good deal. Highly recommended. Check this place out if you’re in the mood for something different in UB.

This place has real cult status in UB! For around 20k you get really good Japanese food and excellent cakes. Prepare for a long wait to be seated though. And once you sit, you better eat up and make space quickly for the next people in the queue. It is a real experience and I highly recommend it. But I can also understand the people that don't like the concept, hence my warning here. With the menu attached to this review, you can order via phone (Mongolian only) and cut your wait time in half.

It’s my one of favorite places. I like their udon noodles. So yummy!! U have to eat quickly like in Japan. Because the place has a little space and always people wait seats there. Owner is Japanese guy and it really feels like Japan atmosphere.

Such a great little spot. If you're in Ulaanbaatar, you'll most likely find yourself at the State Department Store at some point. Just down the road is this bakery/restaurant. It's one of my wife's favourites because of their baked goods. So, I had to try it. While I never had the opportunity to try their food beyond the baked goods, what I did have was incredible. 3 different cheesecakes and a piece of apple tart and all were delicious. Their Special Cheesecake was something I've never had before. It was unlike any cheesecake I've ever had and the topping was like a sweet cloud. Loved all of it.

Great hotpot restaurant! The quality of the ingredients is very good and fresh. They have a English menu and English speaking staff. They price quality ratio is extremely good. The service is great but not on the level of HaiDiLao. Nevertheless, I think it’s the best place for hotpot in Mongolia. The furniture is top notch!

Quite a morden, comfortable dinning place. Just next to the Genghis Khan Plaza. You got great view, clean and bright surrounding. Dedicated Mongolian food and hot pot. Musical and dance folk show sometimes. Very nice experience overall.

Great location in Ulaanbaatar for quality food and drink. Extensive menu with many varied options. Yummy hearty meals and a personal favourite of mine.

It was bit disappointing compared with cost!! 1. The bread was served straight from the refrigerator, which was disappointing. As a culinary school graduate, I believe bread should be served at least slightly warm to enhance its flavor and texture. 2. The stone table felt cold and unwelcoming to the touch. A tablecloth or some form of covering would have made the dining experience more comfortable. 3. The service was notably slow, even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. Our drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, and the first dish, khuushuur, wasn’t served until 30 minutes after we ordered. The second dish, beef and broccoli, arrived 40 minutes after we placed our order, which felt excessive. 4. The Coke was served warm, which was surprising and disappointing. Given the price of the drinks, which likely accounts for refrigeration costs, I expected them to be properly chilled, comparable to what you’d find in a market. Overall: While the staff was friendly, the experience was underwhelming. The service felt unprofessional, and the food didn’t stand out. The khuushuur was acceptable, as it’s a dish that doesn’t require much skill, but the beef and broccoli was lackluster. Unfortunately, there was nothing particularly special about the visit, and I hope the restaurant can address these issues to improve the dining experience.

Used to Be a Favorite – Not Anymore Back when my husband and I were dating, we used to frequently go to California (the restaurant) and order their seafood scampi. It was one of our favorite places thanks to the great flavor, cozy atmosphere, and quality service. Sadly, that’s no longer the case. Over the past two years, they’ve increased their prices at least 2–3 times, yet the quality has only gone downhill in every way. People probably kept coming back for the old-school Cali service, but now it feels like the place is run by a bunch of disengaged, disinterested staff who barely speak and act like they’d rather be anywhere else. Food – 4/10 The seafood scampi was way too salty. The seafood didn’t seem properly cleaned — I kept tasting bits of grit and sand. On top of that, it was clearly overcooked. Really disappointing for a dish we used to love. Service – 3/10 The staff seemed annoyed to even be working. Cold attitude, barely any interaction. It might be time to consider either raising their wages or giving them proper customer service training — something clearly needs to change. 🫠 Ambience – 5/10 Clean enough, but nothing remarkable. Overall – 4/10 A place we used to love has unfortunately become a letdown. We won’t be going back anytime soon unless they seriously improve.

The overall is great, this California restaurant is little bit overpriced than other one maybe because it’s owned by different group or company. The waiter takes long to bring menu or take your order and apart from bit overpriced the drinks like matcha or burger it all tasted decent just like we tasted every other place and was little disappointment for extra price. Overall service was good the environment was good and food was good. They just need to focus little bit on the speed and taste.

Great place, generous portion and great service. The place is spacious and have enough seats. Chicken breast was little bit dry but pan fried vegetables and desert were good. They offer various types of meal and drink options. The menu is mix of Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, American and Mongolian cuisine. You'll find sushi and sashimi as well as good comfort food, even Philly cheese steak. Price is little bit towards the higher end but you'll get good dining experience. Definitely recommend this place.

I used to really love this place, but coming back after a few years was such a shock. The prices are insane now and the food is honestly terrible. I ordered an burrito and it was one of the worst I’ve ever had — completely tasteless, just a pile of plain rice stuffed inside with what looked like some sad, overcooked cabbage leaf in the middle. It was soggy, flavorless. It honestly felt like they’ve given up on caring about the food, and people are only still going because of the reputation this place had years ago.

Food was ok. The atmosphere were lively however it is kinda cold which was not comfortable. The service was okay but needs some improvement in friendliness. Steak was hard to chew and not exactly how to order with correct degree of doneness. You can order medium to get medium well .. i guess

Good hot pot chain in Mongolia. Several exotic protein options like horse meat and bull pizzle. The air con could be cooler though. We had to open the window in the private room to let cooler air in from outside.

Another good branch of The Bull Hot Pot, the soup is as tasty as the other branches and the service is fast and good. However, it is a very busy branch so make sure to order in advance.

Very cute and cozy place, tucked away in the backyard of Broadway 120. The food and service are excellent, and it’s a great spot for both small and large group gatherings. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE THEY HAVE NO RESPECT!!!! I’ve visited this restaurant many times, never had a problem. Today they lost a customer for ever they served me a Caesar Salad with a hair the size of a horse tail as I mixed the salad we let the server know and he took it we said we didn’t want a salad but they brought another the second salad had another hair which we found once we ate some of it. I didn’t have an issue these things happen I asked to pay for half the salad because I didn’t continue eating after the second hair. They charged me full price for the salad and didn’t actually care. Beware of Broadway they would rather take 10 dollars from you than own up to their inability to wear hair nets. I didn’t take a photo of the large hair out of respect but honestly will never go there again. I’ll be producing a YouTube video about the incident later to be linked here.

Day 1 coffee stop to plan the rest of the day in Ulanbaatar. Amazing warm carrot cake and tres leche cake. Coffee was fine as was the Philly Stesk Sandwich. The staff were all warm and welcoming.

My wife took me to this restaurant twice. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. The breakfast...incredible. we had the French Toast and I had the mocha. The French Toast was so buttery and so sweet, it was like candy for breakfast. My wife actually got their Lemon Pie. It also tasted fantastic. So tart with a flaky pastry shell. The dinner was less so. We both had the Chicken Burger. It was a massive burger, so no problem there. It had a really nice crispy golden coating so no issue there either. We both just thought it was lacking flavour which was weird because everything else we've had there was extra flavourful. Either way, a nice restaurant with a great price and very friendly staff.

Not a fan of the aesthetic. Atmosphere is okay, good place if you like to hear English and other languages as background noise. Food is just okay. I prefer the breakfast menu to the lunch/dinner menu.

Lovely and well known breakfast place with decent omelette and the best lemon tart near and far. Update: been coming here for the 5th year in a row, almost every morning. There's 3 tables on the terrace and it's very lovely in the morning to sit outside, no matter the weather.

This place is the poster child for bad Mongolian service IMO. Lots of waiters milling about, super slow service, absolutely no care or attention given to customers. The food is genuinely great and is an enjoyable eat for locals although it does take a while to come out (minimum 30 minutes). Interestingly, I’d say their Mongolian milk tea really ranks among the best.

Food was good when they finally arrived. Service could be improved, the waitress forgot our orders and we had to ask again, and was finally told the dish was sold out.

Overall, quite ok experience here at this chain restaurant. I expected a little more but seems like it is quite average. I tried the grilled lamb and it was mostly really really tough. Not sure if it was over cooked or just a tough part of the lamb- quite disappointing. The cheesy chicken breast turned out quite good surprisingly. Tender and it went well with the cheese. Not too overwhelming. The fish soup was also good- served piping hot it was a good appetiser of sorts. Each dish is around 7usd depending on what you order. My first meal in Mongolia so I can’t comment on the value but seems pretty reasonable for what it is.

Ordered chicken breast salad and Mongolian steaks. Staffs are good and responsible also salad was good but my steak was so chewy like bite a rubber . When I order I requested but can’t speak english so I could’t choose how cook my steak I normally eat medium rare steak thats why . Tho I really enjoyed my dishes . Would love to visit again 100%.

Exceptional in all ways imaginable! Fantastic, genuine Mongolian food with a touch of fusion. English menu with some of the staff speaking English. Lots of pictures and lots of things to try. If you're not getting it home cooked, this is the place to go! Even still, it's worth trying their versions of Mongolian staples. Mongolian beef options too. Worth it!

Very disappointing experience. The server never acknowledged us when we walked in, and when the food arrived, the enchiladas had burnt tortillas. All the food came out at the same time, which felt rushed. The atmosphere was okay, but the service was poor and the prices were too high for the quality. Not worth it.

Very very oily and heavy food. You get out there like a balloon that cannot roll any longer because of the weight. Sure I took a few pounds eating there. Still feeling unwell. No second chance in this place.

The food was expensive and not worth the price. Small portions and we ordered coconut chicken curry and we failed to taste or see any coconut. The bathroom area wreaked of cigarettes. Also, I watched a cook come out of the bathroom with out properly washing his hands. Very disappointing.

Food, drink ,vibe .. everything was good.. we went there sunday night and there was only few people beside us. And food was absolutely delicious. Ordered some fish stick and some salad, and quesadilla.. every dish was delicious. I ate outside almost daily .. and this is the one of the place i want to go again.

This is a lovely, comfortable place to eat. We had assorted tacos, Rogan Josh, and naan. There were enough toppings on the tacos that we used naan so that each one made 2 tacos. The food was all very good, but it is worth noting there are a lot of flavors and spices that overlap between Indian and Mexican cuisine, and in this instance the flavors of the Mexican food leaned more than usual towards tasting like Indian food. It was delicious, and a much better pairing of cuisine than Carlos O'Kelly's near Washington DC in the USA, which serves Irish and Mexican food and makes no sense at all.

Super good. Only place with good Indian food. I like the butter chicken with garlic Nan, and samosas.

After shopping or running around the city certainly one of my favorite spots to rest my legs before more strolls. Very cozy comfy and love the smell of coffee there. Gelato icecream, sandwiches and coffee.

I haven't been here in a couple years, but I remember the service wasn't great, and they didn't have most of the items on the menu. Coffee is fine; better than some other cafe franchises in UB

The KK Lounge is a very upscale venue for UB. The staff are fantastic, very polite and helpful, they made lots of great recommendations for food and drink pairings. The food was excellent, lots of variety and all presentable and delicious. The live jazz made the evening and it wasn't too loud that it became obtrusive. All in all a great venue and a great meal, if you're looking for comfort in UB come here!

I want to express the food is acceptable but the service you need to be cautious on how they show you the menu and make sure check the final price if they will overcharge. Server will show the lowest price menus that is for local but will not reveal the other menu that is for the tourist as they claim. Example I have to pay 11,000 mnt for a can of coke. Local menu (which they claim is for local) and that is what the server will show us when drink for a can of coke is 9.000 mnt, payment time is 11,000 mnt. I want to express why they are not willing to show the final price and never informed us. Food is acceptable and atmosphere is excellent. They are not trustable base on what they will charge on the final bill.

This truly beautiful restaurant is located in the heart of the city, right in the middle of a children's park. It offers a variety of delicious dishes, with a wide selection of Asian and Western cuisines. It's a popular spot for families, friends, coworkers, and tourists alike.

Update 2025/10/09 Place has mediocre service, you have to ask to be served. Food has 7/10 taste but portion wise it wasn’t good. On the menu it says “2-3 people dish”, but in reality there were 7 short ( slim meat) ribs with 2 little meat pieces. Atmosphere is meh, food is small but expensive. Overall impression 4/10

They have variety of menus to choose from, starting from korean to european, chinese, japanese etc. Also not so pricey. Loved their food. Loved their special location hidden between the woods of amusement park. Also because of its location, not many people know this place. Highly recommend if you want to try different country's cuisine at the same time which is rarely seen in Mongolia .

Burger is just OK. Chips were fried too much. We ordered the black and brown burger set but we got 2 brown burgers. The terrace was so nice you can chit chat with ur friends and enjoy street view.

Excellent place to hang out with friends, family. Reasonable price and the beef burger that I tried has a delightful taste, the soft buns and the tender beef is a great combo, but the salt wasn’t spread evenly so that’s the only negative thing I can point out. The environment is also put into consideration, love the interior design. The music playlist is to my taste, the workers here are really nice and have great vibes. The light covers above the corner seat are made of tin cans, very environmentally friendly! They give you black gloves with your order for hygiene, which is a great plus of this place, also a cool free wristband along the meal. I definitely recommend going here, if you want to chill out with your friends, family in a relaxed atmosphere. As for me, I’m gonna come back here to try out the bulgogi burger.

This burger was a war crime in a bun. Even CU convenience store burgers taste like gourmet in comparison. Whoever made this clearly thought sauce could cover their sins, but instead drowned the entire burger in what tasted like straight vinegar. I left with heartburn and regret. The bun was soggy enough to qualify as soup, the patty was so thin I almost needed a magnifying glass to find it, and the fries? Mid. The only thing that had flavor were the mosquitoes that bit me while I ate. Truly, an unforgettable experience — for all the wrong reasons.

The Double Black Burger was great, though the Steak Burger was a little on the dry side.

Burger’s OK. The patties were way too soft and I’ve never been a big fan of using fresh cucumbers for burgers. Service was prompt, food came out fast, it was reasonably priced at 18900 and the place seems like a nice chill place to study or chit chat. Appreciated the gloves and they’re definitely of proper make to ensure your fingers are clean at the end.

It was the first restaurant that I had lunch in Mongolia. I even can not speak any Mongolian but staff can speak few English word. He is so kind and burger was also very good.

The food’s just fine (fried rice had generous portions of meat but it’s a bit hard to eat since it’s still on the bone, tonkotsu ramen had just stir fried pork and forgettable noodles & broth) but the service is polite and fast, atmosphere is pleasant and modern, and the dishes come fast and are reasonably priced. Overall a decent choice for a meal especially if you want a quick bite to eat.

Back and forth because this is near the pace I stayed in Blue Sky Hotel. Good Ramen, good fried rice, Well, not the best ramen and fried rice I ever had, but acceptable. I am a little bit upset about the spiciness. They said the fried rice is spicy, but it's not spicy at all, according to me 😄

I visited Arig late evening on weekday with my friends as the firstly visited restaurant was almost close time. I ordered Cheese Ramen which came with big chickens and lot of Parmesan cheese. It’s of course delicious but a bit too much for the late night meal. Anyway I like it.

I was kinda hungover and wanted to have ramen for lunch. The place was packed. But the service is fast. The chicken ramen though, seems to me lacks flavour. Lately, their ramen doesn’t taste good. Actually i like their chicken ramen. But now tastes not good. Maybe u like it. Their green tea is good. Their atmosphere and spaces is nice. They have terrace too. When summertime, its best choice to sit there.

This is a trendy bar for the late twenty somethings to forty somethings. No food was being served on a Friday night (it was early March). A cool spot to observe the locals kicking back. Friendly staff to this foreigner. Also not really jazz music being played, I asked if there was live music and got a funny look, so I would say Jazz cafe in name only.

On their menu they had a lot of options for burgers but I ordered the three mini burgers and an extra plate of chips. The burgers were ok, a bit dry and not as juicy as I would have liked, but I guess they did the business as I was hungry. They actually came with some chips as well so the extra order of chips was far too much for myself. The chips too were a bit dry and not crispy at all, very stodgy. But I honestly couldn't eat so much food, so left a lot on the plate.....me bad! Portion sizes were very good it has to be said. The place had a nice décor and there was a pleasant atmosphere in the burger bar. Service was good and efficient. With a big pint of beer, the total bill came to a very reasonable 14 Euros..... excellent value I think. I wanted to like the burger, but to be honest I have had better. Sorry guys.

Great burger. Great service. Place is a bit dark and could use some different decor. Needs more variety of soft drinks. The mural on the wall is awesome. Definitely recommend, come hungry.

I think this is one of the best burger places in the town. It has a huge portion of burgers with great selections. You are not able to bite. You have to use knife to eat your burger. Very tasty and delicious. Service is very nice and fast. Price is affordable. This branch is located inside of the Zaisan Hill Center, on the 2nd floor. Highly recommended place. A good hangout place.

My favorite burger joint. Immediately after arriving in Mongolia, I went there for a hamburger. As delicious as in 2018 when I last ate them. I recommend.

This is a place to go if you want to try some Ukrainian and/or Russian dishes in UB. However, be prepared that service might not be so good and waiters and waitresses look odd in Ukrainian costumes but that's just my thoughts.

ate cheese tonkatsu and miso ramen, drank mango cinnamon tea. Tea is sweet and delicious. The miso ramen had a weak flavor and the ingredients seemed out of harmony. The cheese tonkatsu was delicious. Modern Japanese style. Service was great.

The iced tea was undrinkable, and the fried foods had an unpleasant taste, likely due to old cooking oil. The place also had a strange smell. Overall, I do not recommend this place

Excellent restaurant, the best sushi in UB! So many different meals, hot pot, miso, udon, seafood, make with excellence and so many details! Also variety of special pot tea, many ice tea and smoothie options. I so much recommend this place!

It was the first place in UB where I tried the most delicious pasta there. But I guess it depends on the chef as later it tasted differently. Tried aaaall of them😄 Recommended anyway. There were 3 types of cheesecake. Try with sea buckthorn as something local. The owner is always there. He’s super welcoming and always cares about his customers. They also sell their own cheese.

A quaint little restaurant in UB. But don't let it deceive you, while the seating is limited and a bit on top of other people the food makes up for it. The service from my few experiences here is either attentive or non-existent. The owner, Mike, makes you feel at home and does an excellent job welcoming you. The menu is varied and has a lot of choices. The pasta is by far the best. The downside is the portions aren't the biggest and a bit pricey. I've had the burgers a few times and in my opinion, easily top 3 in UB. You can taste the quality in every ingredient. Absolutely recommend this place, in terms of price and quality it's one of the best in town.

I first stepped into the cafe on my second day in Ulanbatur in September before my friends and I leave for our Altai trip.The cafe was on my good food list that I had looked up before visiting Mongolia. The Borscht is heavenly and full of vegetables and meat.Our first time trying the hot seabuckthorn tea- we were smitten and literally throughout our tour we looked for this drink in our stops😆. I had the yak sausages after my Altai trip .It was delicious with lovely roast potatoes and the yumm condiments. My 3rd time was after my Gobi trip when we returned to UB. We had the awesome 4 cheese pizza and Spagetti Bolognese. I wish I could pack one and bring home on departure😋. On my last day in UB,I bought the delicious Khustai Gouda to bring home. I will definetely dine here again on next trip to UB Thank U Michael and your staff🥰

A little haven if you miss European style food. A good wine selection is available for European tastes and the dishes are freshly prepared. I had the yak meat sausages with sauteed potatoes and it was first class. The staff are amazing: dedicated and passionate about the restaurant and the food they serve. The owner is an interesting, well travelled and worldly guy that takes time to engage with his customers. Try the organic, small batch artisan cheese: uniquely Mongolian in its deep, rich taste. It gives Gouda a whole new dimension.

One of the best cheesecakes and burgers I’ve had in Mongolia. Such a hidden gem! The burger bun was so nice and crunchy and the cheese was just perfect. Also loved the borsch, the meat was tender.

The Bull always lose point with their service, i mean it depends but waitress comes in at least 5 min later we seated , thankfully the soup comes in pretty fast , so no worries

We had to wait an hour for a table—my fault for not reserving in advance. Even after being seated, it took another 30 mins for the food to arrive. The tofu, vegetables, and broth were good—especially the vegetables, which were fresh and flavorful. But the Mongolian Beef (35,000T) was extremely disappointing. The texture was awful—like paper melting in ur mouth. It felt like something had gone wrong during the freezing or thawing process? I’ve never had beef that bad beef before. Would I return for the refreshing veggies? Yes. But for that kind of beef? Definitely a NO.

The food was very good, and you cook it yourself. I haven’t experienced anything like this in Europe yet. I ate a portion meant for two people by myself, but it took me three hours. Along with a bottle of wine, the whole dinner cost less than $35. The staff were friendly, but their English wasn’t great. The waiter forgot to bring all the extras I ordered, so I had to remind him. You can easily communicate in Russian.

I think this branch is the best among all of them. Whatever we asked from the menu they had. Plus, there’s even a kids playground inside.

The food was decent, but the service was extremely disappointing. Orders from foreign guests were not properly entered, causing delays in food and drinks. Even after pressing the table call button multiple times, staff were slow to respond. Not recommended for those who are not fluent in Mongolian.

The food was ok and fresh however the service need to be improved. The guy who was on the reception wasn’t friendly and left us with no information. At the dining table there was no linen napkin. Usually the place is crowded, especially during the lunch hours. The atmosphere is quite good and the price is reasonable. There is almost no parking except for three spots in front of it.

Naadam Bar is a visually impressive venue within the beautiful Shangri-La property. The space itself is stylish and comfortable, and the happy hour specials offer excellent value with a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices. However, the service left much to be desired. Despite several staff members being present, it was difficult to get their attention. They often seemed more engaged in chatting with one another than attending to guests. This lack of attentiveness was disappointing and took away from what could have been a much better experience. The food was just okay. Some items arrived cold, and condiments we asked for were forgotten. While the menu has potential, the execution didn’t quite deliver. Naadam has a lot going for it in terms of location, design, and pricing, but the staff would benefit greatly from more training in hospitality and attentiveness. With stronger service, this could easily become one of the standout spots in the hotel.

Beautiful space. Food priced fairly but the staff is distant and on the verge of being rude. You see them chatting with each other and very hard to get their attention. When you do they seem irritated that you need something. Most of the food was cold, but the Mongolian khuushuur we got were delicious.

I haven’t tried their food, only went for cocktails. Six cocktails came to around 260k, and honestly, they were the worst cocktails any of us have ever tried—you’d find better at a dive bar. Really disappointing. The interior is grand but feels more suited to an older crowd, especially with the music.

Ordered a Khuushuur, at an odd hour of 3pm there wasn't anyone. I know the kitchen might be slow at this hour but it took 45mins for just my 1 dish to come. But thats not what got me disappointed/agitated, another friend of two came in after me, somehow they got served the same Khuushuur (one of them, cant help but notice when you've waited so long) before me!! So I had to tell the waitress whats that about. That was around 30mins in of waiting and had to wait another 15mins for a grand total of 45mins. This is poor service. Although she did apologies for the hiccup.. also concur with some of the people who reviewed here they seem to be more occupied talking amongst themselves than being attentive to the needs of the guests. Very very poor service to be in Shangri-la

Service=0. Manager did not listen to the customers’ voice. During my visit, lot of customers were disappointed on food quality (Recharging food trays’ process takes too much time; almost 80% of food were left overs of lunch time; each hot beverages’ tray was empty;…) need to get professional service on the current process.

Probably the worst Shangrila buffet restaurant in the Shangri la group. The locals probably did not know what a good Shangri la restaurant is eg HK, Shanghai, Singapore. The food is taste less, empty serving trays, over worked staff. Even paying takes 30 mins ! The management needs to take a serious look at the state of restaurant and not short changed the locals who are paying a lot of money for poor quality food.

Wasn’t particularly impressed with the chewy meat, overcooked dumplings, or the lack of any Middle Eastern breads during their themed week. I was genuinely surprised at how mediocre their service was though. No person manning the meat carving section, no bowls at the soup section, wait staff clearing tables but not replacing the cutlery they took away. The restaurant itself is beautiful but for 89k, I wasn’t blown away.

One of the most beautiful corners in that level, but I didn't get what happened to the cook. We just wanted to enjoy a one small Pizza, we re both mostly vegetarians, my wife bought it without any salami, tuna or chicken - She ordered artichoke, but all we found were 2 small pieces exactly and comparatively small Pizza with bland test. For more than 15 Euro? Not even in Australia. I don't care for money I just done with this shameless Slovak greediness.

Had dinner there. Some of the food looked like they were sitting there for the entire day. Some were cold. Most of the food trays were empty or had scraps. They were rarely refilled. Please pay attention to this issue. Despite the fact that the restaurant is not open for an hour (17:30 to 18:30) prior to dinner, it felt like no preparation was made besides cleaning for the dinner guests. Disappointed.

It was ok for what it was I suppose. They let the food run down to where you had to wait a while before they would refill and the quality of the food (meat especially) wasn't as good was told. Lots of undermarinated chewy bits. For what its worth, the flavor was good. Just tougher than I thought it would be. The desserts on the other had were outstanding. My only gripe would be that the ran out of ice cream cones when I wanted ice cream.
