Steak house
Upstairs At The Grill is a stylish split-level steakhouse and cocktail bar known for its warm atmosphere and locally sourced beef. After being closed during the pandemic, the venue announced its return with plans to transform its iconic home in the Olde Custom House Building. With a history of 22 years in Chester, founder Neil McDonnell turned it into a phenomenon that set new standards for bars in the area.
After reading reviews we knew we wanted to visit here during a recent trip to Chester and it did not disappoint. Booked for Sunday Lunch and the meal was fantastic, both myself and my partner agreed it was the best roast we'd ever eaten out. The beef was cooked to perfection, exactly how we had asked, and the cocktails were also so good. The desserts didn't disappoint either. The restaurant itself felt exclusive and high end without feeling unwelcoming. The staff were friendly and chatty. Highly recommend this gorgeous restaurant!

This was an amazing restaurant experience. Freya and Dan were absolutely faultless. Never had service like this before in a restaurant. They both gave fantastic recommendations on what to eat and we tried it all. Would rate this as one of my best restaurant experiences ever. The food was amazing. The service impeccable. If you like meat and your in Chester then this place is a no brainer.

We had a wonderful evening at Upstairs at the Grill. The food was absolutely delicious – full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and it really showed. The service was excellent too, could not fault it. The staff were friendly, attentive, and impressively knowledgeable about the menu. It was clear that a lot of care went into making sure every detail was just right. Their attention to detail was second to none, and they made us feel completely looked after throughout the evening. It’s rare to find a restaurant that seems to nail every aspect but tonight Upstairs at the Grill did that. I can’t recommend it highly enough, and we’ll definitely be back soon!

Came here to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday and couldn’t recommend it more. From start to finish, the whole experience and staff were fantastic, especially the blonde waitress and the gentleman host with the beard (sorry, I didn’t catch their names). The food was amazing and we can’t wait to return.

An absolutely fantastic experience. A truly remarkable dining experience, provided by a driven and tremendous team of staff. The additional treats my wife and I were given after we celebrated our marriage was out of this world. Providing a memory that will stay with us as we embark on our journey together. A true feast on the eyes and taste buds! Our close friends also emphasised their delight due to the dining experience. Outstanding value for money. A truly amazing restaurant where food quality, service and wow-factor are evoked and displayed simultaneously!

What a lovely meal! My boyfriend took me for my birthday and Erin (our server) took excellent care of us. It was our first time dining here and she was just full of knowledge. She talked us through the menu, gave us genuine recommendations and was just such a lovely, bubbly person! The steak was absolutely amazing, might be one of the nicest I have ever had!
Emma J — Google review
Probably the best fillet steak I've ever had. We booked dinner here whilst in Chester for the weekend and so glad we did! From being seated right through to leaving, the service was amazing, and our waiter was really helpful and friendly. The chips were also amazing, and the bacon and cabbage dish was gorgeous. The steak was the best I've had. I'd not hesitate to recommend this place!
Ella S — Google review
Came here for my birthday and did not disappoint, the staff were very friendly & showed us samples of the steak. Had a beautiful birthday card on our table, and the food was divine. You definitely get what you pay for here, can't to return for another occasion.

French restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Chester on the lively Northgate Street, Chez Jules is a charming bistro that captures the essence of rustic French cuisine. This beloved eatery prides itself on using locally sourced seasonal ingredients to create mouth-watering dishes that reflect authentic French flavors. While their menu features a delightful array of vegetarian options, it also caters to those seeking vegan choices, albeit in more limited selections.
We came for lunch on a Sunday. There was a fixed price menu we could have chosen from or the La Carte. There was plenty of choice on both for all price ranges and tastes. Fantastic wine menu with lots of wines by the glass and some tasty cocktails. All the food coming out the kitchen looked great. The food was delicious. A generous portion of veg with the mains. The waiting staff were excellent, very helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The building itself is stunning. Great value for money with a good choice of drinks and food. I would highly recommend it and can’t wait to come back.

We came due our anniversary and every single aspect of our dining experience was exceptional. Every mouthful was bursting with flavour, even down to the carrots! We couldn't recommend this place enough! They were very hospitable and attentive, a purely positive experience!

If you want a quiet restaurant this is definitely not IT. Now if you want a lively happy restaurant then you have found it. It is noisy with conversations and laughter. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food is of great quality and very well cooked. A most enjoyable meal. Great value for money.

We’ve been to Chez Jules in Chester to celebrate our 10th anniversary. And what an incredible experience we’ve had there. It was a great surprise, we had delicious food and Ula who was our waitress delivered an impeccable service, she was extremely friendly and kind. Our special thank you to make our special day even better!

They understood vegan!! Great staff. Friendly, efficient and on their 'A' game from the front of house right through to the table. Imaginative menu with well prepared dishes. Good wine list. Couldn't fault it!

Our friends choice 😁 Quite a big place on the ground floor, typical looking french 🇫🇷 restaurant👩‍🎨 Bigger very different looking first floor where the toilet is also situated. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff 😁 Bread on tables and menu choices made😁 Starters-french onion soup and goats cheese with beetroot 🫜 Mains- Duck, fish,Beef burgeon and Lamb Rump 😁👏👏 Really tasty food with a big bowl of veg and dauphinois 😁🥔 Choose french wine “yes please” Quite busy but not to loud or echoing 😁 No room for puds ☹️ Very happy with our choice of restaurant 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

This has been such a good experience. Firstly, the french onion soup is divine. Really one of the best I've ever had. As a main I ordered a pork belly, and the sauce was so rich, it really made the dish to be great. The wine was also very good, I took a glass of pinot noir and enjoyed it. The staff were very professional and kind. This is place is a must if you're in Chester.

Party of 15, everyone had something nice to say about the food. Relaxed place to celebrate or dinner for 2 The lamb rump was regarded as the best they had eaten by two farmers! Any place that serves rhubarb cheesecake deserves a medal!!

Bistro
Breakfast restaurant
Restaurant
Sticky Walnut is an intimate and innovative Modern European restaurant located in Hoole, just outside Chester. The restaurant features rustic exposed bricks and wooden furniture, creating a relaxed yet professional ambiance. It is part of the Elite Bistros empire led by chef-turned-restaurateur Gary Usher, known for his passion for high-quality ingredients. The menu offers a variety of delicious food at reasonable prices, with options for both lunch and dinner, including several vegan choices.
Located in a lovely suburb of Chester. Greeted by a friendly waitress where we were seated in a quiet corner. Short bistro menu with a good variety of options. Decent wine selection at reasonable prices. Open kitchen with engaging colleagues. We started with the Crab fishcake and goats cheese salad. The cheese was on a sweet crumbly base. The crab cake had a red fish sauce garnished with chilli oil. Perfect starters. For mains, we both had Seabream with poached mussels in a tarragon sauce. We added carrots and chips. The fish was exceptional, filleted, and delicious. For wine, we chose a French Shiraz, red is always our preference even with fish. Great atmosphere with nice background music and very comfortable seating. Overall, we would rate this restaurant one of the best in Chester fair price for the quality of food and service. Thank you for such a lovely evening.
Nick H — Google review
We're not especially fans of American cuisine but as Sticky Walnut were doing it for their set menu this month we decided to give it another chance and expand our taste. It's still not my favourite but the frickles (deep fried, very lightly tempura battered pickles), barbequed Boston beans, and fried chicken with collared greens were all raised to level well beyond the norm. Very unusually for me, the puddings were the standout course; New York cheesecake was delicious, and Honeycomb ice cream served in a chilled glass with cracking good solidified chocolate sauce, absolutely fantastic. Service was lovely, very friendly and charming. Excellent value, £23 each for all three courses. I don't think you can do better in Chester.
Daniel L — Google review
First timer here. Small intimate restaurant. Absolutely delicious food. Presented so well that we felt like judges on Masterchef. Our server was lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Chris B — Google review
We visited Sticky Walnut last night after hearing great things about it from several people. The restaurant has a strong reputation, so we were really looking forward to the meal. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. The menu had just changed and was quite limited. For our main, we had little choice but to order the double steak for two — not ideal since my partner prefers rare and I like medium. The steak arrived cooked somewhere in between, but it was on the small side and definitely not enough for two people. The potatoes were under-seasoned and rather dry, and while the salad looked pretty and fresh, it felt more like a garnish than a proper side. For starters, we had the bread and butter, but the butter was simply smeared on the side of the plate and the presentation was disappointing for a restaurant with this kind of reputation. Service was mixed — it took about 15 minutes before we were served, though once Camilla came over, she was lovely and chased up our drinks promptly. The wine was on the expensive side but unfortunately not the best quality. We did raise our concerns, and to their credit, the staff were understanding. They offered complimentary drinks, which was appreciated and did make us feel better. However, even after the discount, the total came to around £100, and we still left hungry — we actually stopped for McDonald’s on the way home. Overall, while the service was friendly and they tried to make things right, the food and value for money just didn’t match the high expectations or the reputation

Easily. One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. I would put this up there with the forestside, Gilpin and the stamp house in Ambleside. Ordered the steak tartare and to round it off the sirloin sharing board (for two) just for me haha. My other half had the halibut This was honestly phenomenal!!! I will rush back. Staff are sooo sound as well. BLOODY LOVED IT ha

I visited SW with 2 girlfriends this week. They have a new Chef - Luke and a new menu. The best restaurant meal I have had in Chester it was delicious. Great menu - I started with steak tartare followed by the monkfish in lobster sauce. All beautifully prepared and presented the flavours were perfection. The staff were wonderful. Attentive without being intrusive. We had a fantastic evening. Would highly recommend.

Very poor experience unfortunately. Food is great. Service was slow and the experience was poor. We were moved after being settled from a nice warm room, to a cold upstairs table with no atmosphere. Nice staff but need better planning needed.

We always enjoy the food here, tasty with a delicious twist. Lunchtime menu was top notch as a birthday treat. A mistake was made with the bill, charged fir evening 2 courses instead of Lunchtime charge. However this was soon rectified when we rang to explain. Lovely staff, excellent atmosphere of casual smart

Modern European restaurant
Restaurant
Chef's Table offers market-fresh, seasonal menus in a casual, well-lit restaurant with stripped wooden floors. The culinary team works closely with local purveyors to source the best seasonal offerings, providing diners with an authentic taste of the area. Guests can enjoy a laid-back cup of coffee or lunch during the day and savor seasonal dishes at night in an intimate setting adorned with local artwork.
Went for a 3 course lunch and could have not been better. The food was exquisite. Sent my compliments to the chef. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Been to many Michelin Star restaurants and some were not of this quality. Will definitely return.
Carlos M — Google review
I went here for my partner's birthday meal and we were absolutely blown away with how incredible the experience was. We decided to go for their set lunch menu at a very reasonable £35 for two courses (bearing in mind a single main on the evening menu is £40 average), the staff were very pleasant and the sommelier was fantastic - my partner and I love Romanian wine and it just so happened that so did he so we had excellent discussions across some of the best food I've ever eaten. I would highly recommend the iberico pork tasting for the main - it was unbelievable to have such a variety of cuts and styles in one dish, 10/10.
Robin H — Google review
Outstanding. Just chanced Chef's Table on a day in Chester, and it was a total treat. Understated care and attention throughout. I eat a lot a soup, but wouldn't usually pick it in a restaurant. Was drawn in by aubergine being the main ingredient, and so glad I was. Couldn't imagine how it could've been any tastier. Just kept getting better from there on in. Ridiculous value and super nice people, who seemed as happy to be there as we were. Photos don't do it justice
Matthew D — Google review
We went for the set lunch, which for the money was really good value, overall some really tasty and enjoyable food that was well presented, would recommend and would go back. Haggis fritters as a pre starter were a smash. The starter of halibut and fregula was gorgeous, everything complemented and enhanced the dish, a lovely light pasta dish. Braised bavette was a surprise full of flavour. The pork selection was fine, rib was melting, but rest just missed the point, nothing to complain about but not as good as the other dishes. The desert was nice , but each dish had 1 element that didn't quite work, the basil sorbet was a bit over powering, and the piece of rhubarb needed a bit more poaching as it had a bit too much bite. Maybe some of the dishes could have done with 1 or 2 ingredients less. Service was relaxed and really friendly.
Ian Y — Google review
We went for my husband's birthday and had the set lunch menu. The food was incredible, the featherblade beef wow! Lunch menu was great value for money and we really enjoyed the whole experience.
Joanne H — Google review
We went as a family of seven for Sunday lunch. The food was absolutely first class. Expertly prepared, good portions and good value for money. The service was friendly, attentive and hit just the right note. The staff were particularly attentive to our elderly parents. My wife's allergies which whilst minor weren't disclosed beforehand were immediately accommodated and an alternative sauce was offered to her chosen dish. I can't think of anything that could be improved.
Paul G — Google review
We enjoyed the most superb meal at Chef's Table on Sunday 19th October. It was the second visit for myself and I'd been raving about it and couldn't wait to go back. It's such a gorgeous restaurant with a lovely bar area. The food is absolutely delicious and so well presented, the staff are so friendly, professional and knowledgeable, the service is excellent and having the expertise of their Sommelier, Cino Noir just makes it a delight. I cannot wait to go back again. Thank you to everyone for such a fabulous meal and a wonderful experience!
Anne F — Google review
Couple of nights away in Chester so we looked at what was on offer. Despite giving less than 30 minutes notice we booked a vegan tasting menu and a non fish tasting menu. Excellent food and excellent service. We opted for the paired wine flight and they all complemented very nicely. All in all heartily recommended.

Such a nice environment for eating, it does get very busy at peak times - and no reservations. So plan your time around having a potential wait. It’s not cheap but the setting etc make up for that,

We stopped here for a quick dinner whilst in chester and I highly recommend it. In the evenings it does get quite busy but service is super fast, and they turn around the tables quite fast. We got seated immediately on arrival by a very friendly team. Tapas are lovely, with a lot of variety. The Toritilla and Prawns came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. All in all, it was a lovely evening and we had a great time.

I spotted this place last time we were in Chester and wanted to try it when we came back. It did not disappoint. Every member of staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. We didn't wait long at all for a table on a busy Friday evening. The Porta Spritz was the nicest spritz I've had. The food was delicious. We would definitely return to try other dishes and highly recommend.

I won't write too much. I'll just say thank you for the wonderful flavours you left us with, the crispiness on the palate, the swallows we look forward to with every sip. I won't write long reviews or make pretentious comments to people who know their job best. I'll just say that I had some lovely memories here as I passed by, and that I'll be back, you lucky people. To those on the back street, I'll say that you're out of luck today too, because we swept up the spoils on the back street. I'm sorry, life isn't fair; if it were, I'd eat here every day.

Had a perfect meal here while staying nearby. Staff friendly and helpful. Cold food came really quickly and hot food didn't take long. Red mullet was "special" and was delicious. Blue cheese with walnuts (photo) was amazing. Sangria came in 1/2 litres which was good as we were in the car. Thanks for a really good meal - we love tapas as it gives you a chance to try an assortment of dishes.
Bronia T — Google review
I love this place. Tapas and drinks list are all compellingly authentic and a far cry from ubiquitous chain-style patatas bravas. The staff are easy going without being indifferent and the whole place is very relaxed. Great option to feel transported for an hour or two. One of the coolest bars in town upstairs too. I could eat and drink here all the time.
ROBERT C — Google review
10/10 fantastic food, very attentive staff. Love that it's walk-in, all good brought as soon as it was ready, meaning we could pace our eating and not be overwhelmed with all the dishes at once. Best tapas I've had in a long time. Everything was cooked to perfection, nothing was left on the plates! Great quality, value for money. You will not be disappointed!

The Old Harkers Arms is a red-brick Victorian warehouse located on the Shropshire Union Canal in Chester, Cheshire. It offers an innovative international menu and outside dining on a large terrace, making it a popular spot for cyclists, towpath users, and city dwellers alike. The interior features high ceilings and brick pillars that divide the space into user-friendly areas with unimpeded views of the canal.
Stunning pub. We booked a table here for dinner and it’s a good job we did because the main part of the pub was heaving. Thankfully, they have a small, quaint area for dining bookings, which is where we were sat. The food was unreal. I had the wild mushroom and tarragon soup for starters. It was packed full of flavour and had a perfect consistency. The black pudding sausage roll looked, and apparently tasted, incredible. The braised shoulder of lamb was cooked beautifully, falling apart with the slightest tug. The gravy was so rich and complimented the lamb well. The veg had a good crunch to it, and the carrots were sweet, which worked well with the gravy. It was my first time trying dauphinoise potatoes and I wasn’t a big fan. Were they unpleasant? No. Were they cooked badly? I don’t think so. I likely just don’t like dauphinoise potatoes. The sticky toffee pudding was nice and didn’t seem to be bought in, as desserts so often are. Service was very friendly throughout, although towards the end, as the main pub got packed, we struggled to get the attention of a waitress as they were occupied with that part of the pub. We can’t wait to go back here and sample whatever is on the menu next time we’re in Chester!

The food was decent. But I don't recommend the pulled beef croquettes. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was really nice and fast. Just expensive for the amount you get. But honestly lovely experience and would go again.

The Old Harkers Arms, Chester. Quality pub and restaurant. Superb selection of well kept real ale. I had the Cheshire Cat bitter which is a lovely pint. They were doing a ‘pie week’ and what a menu that was - absolutely delicious. Needs to be on more than once a year it’s so good. A very well kept place. Bar man / owner had been there 12 years. Additionally, there are kid-friendly favorites like Mac n Cheese and popcorn chicken available.
Absolutely fantastic food. I am Gluten Free and I get very poorly even with slight cross contamination. I was made to feel very safe and shown the allergies list to reassure that what was ordered was safe I both my food and drink. All arrived with allergy flags so alk staff aware.

Stopped off for a bite to eat following a day out in Chester. A fabulous location. Pleasant and friendly staff. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu. We decided to try different things rather than ribs and steaks. Pleasantly surprised with the half chicken, Fajitas and additional nibbles. Well worth a visit.

A neat place to visit right on the river. Cool stuff all over the walls. Very fun if you've ever been to America. The food was decent. The ribs were a bit dry at times, but the jalapeno and cheese sausage was yummy. The shakes are so tasty and probably gave me diabetes. The server looked like she would rather be sorting trash in Birmingham than take our order. It took many attempts to get a fourth set of silverware and a glass for water. Had to pretty much pull in another server so we could finally get our bill. I would go again because I liked the atmosphere, but if the staff was similar again then I would cross it off the list.

Service was ok we had told them we was celebrating so had the board on table but wasn't asked what the celebration was. They was good with my gluten free choice explaining how it all works. Enjoyed our food it wasn't piping hot it was like ready to eat. The atmosphere was relaxing music in the background few other customers on tables got more busy as the evening got on.

Had a great evening. The building is beautiful being situated right on the river, but the internal decor is just fantastic, giving real redneck American vibes. From the moment I arrived all of the staff were great. Really friendly and attentive without being over the top and annoying. I had fajitas which were incredible - genuinely tasty! I finished off with a rum milkshake. Not going to lie, I felt like I was going to have a food coma when I left. Really great evening. Great food and great service. Thank you!

Nice place, nice ambience. Part of a small chain of restaurants. I am looking at 7 key areas (for me anyway!). Hope this helps you when reading the review - 1. Welcome - 3/5. I was a walk-in on a Monday. Not busy at all. Standard welcome, not too friendly. 2. Ambience - 4/5. This is a BIG place which can seat up to 400 people across a number of different areas. Feels like a US restaurant (which is the intention) with upbeat country-ish music and decor. A nice mixed crowd here. 3. Staff knowledge - 4/5. Helpful. It was my first time going there and and I needed to understand some of the menu items. 4. Food taste - 3/5. This is typical American fare but done well with relatively nice flavours. 5. Service - 3/5. I was not always served by the person who was meant to be looking after me, otherwise they were attentive & helpful. 6. Wait times for food & drinks - 4/5. My starter (Shrimp Tostadas) arrived so quickly it must have already been made and the dessert was definitely premade (straight out of the freezer). 7. Value for money - 3/5. OK. I had a milkshake which had too much spray cream, two starters and a desert. £33 with a 7.5% tip/service charge.

Interesting place, I love the American features and the menus are super cute. Atmosphere is a vibe. I wasn't fussed on the food as much because im a picky eater but my partner rated it 4/5 !! Would recommend to people who will eat a wide variety of food. Can be a bit pricey but you should expect this beforehand. Staff are really chatty and lovely.

Restaurant
La Fattoria is a rustic and intimate restaurant with exposed brick walls and warm woods, creating an inviting atmosphere in which to order traditional and modern dishes. The decor is warm, inviting, and reminiscent of Italy, with a family-friendly atmosphere. Menu items include fresh fish, classic Italian pizza & pasta dishes, making it the perfect place to enjoy a night out with friends.
A true Italian restaurant. The staff is very friendly and do their jobs well. Minestrone was better than most restaurants I've eaten at in Italy. Quattro Formaggi pizza was delicious. I can say I fell in love with the mushroom pasta, but the branzino was average. I'd give the place a 5. If it's your birthday, go especially; there are surprises for you 😊

Stopped by on a work trip to Chester - the hotel restaurant was busy and they recommended this place and I am really glad I went! The food was lovely - everything tasted very fresh and authentic. It was really busy but they were still able to find a table for me, and the food came out very quickly. Despite being busy, they were very attentive. I ordered the linguine al pesto and the tiramisu and both were fantastic. If I'm ever in Chester again, I'll be sure to pop by again!

We came here last weekend for dinner (group of 5 for a hen party) and it was absolutely fantastic! Food was amazing, atmosphere was amazing and the service was amazing. It was super busy but none of the staff were rude or stressed, they all had smiles on their faces, as did the customers :) We said it was one of the best restaurants we said we'd ever been to and we didn't want to leave! Thank you to the team for the extra effort you put into our hen's (bride's) desert with her special banana & cream...we are still laughing about that!! We will be back for sure :)

Fantastic little restaurant. Great vibe accompanied by fantastic service and really nice food. The steak was superb, cooked exactly as ordered. The pasta was delicious and uncharacteristically spicy for Italian. Top marks all round. The service was fun and friendly too, all around an easy 5*

Some of the best Italian food in Chester, in my opinion. The venue also feels really authentic and the servers feel like one big inviting family. I wasn’t very keen on the multiple birthday celebrations, the cut the lights and bang the pots very loud. Not really for me but I can understand it. I would definitely recommend booking a table if you’re planning on checking this place out.

Best Italian in the UK ❤️🇮🇹🍝 There’s a reason there’s a queue for a table here!!The food is authentic and service is fast. Even when there is a big queue you usually don’t have to wait too long. Angelo and the team are brilliant! Portions are huge and prices are affordable. Cant recommend highly enough. We’re now regulars! Rigatoni Titus is our favourite 🤩

Got to say it's not my type of place, who wants a locally produced ale with a tropical aroma, or with pineapple? That's not, in my opinion, a beer. Especially at over £6. The cocktail my wife had was very nice, but a whopping £11.50. Cuban Skyline. The staff were good, very friendly and very efficient. Just not the type of place for me.

The girls and I came to Bar Lounge as it was recommended by our friend that lives in Chester and it was lovely. The weather was gorgeous so we were able to sit outside and the atmosphere was great. The food and wine was delicious and Nick was so friendly and welcoming, he couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be back when in Chester again, thank you!

We started at BarLounge for drinks then moved across the Road to Upstairs at The Grill. We sat at the sofa at the bar on the 1st Floor. The staff are expectionally friendly, engaging and attentive. We ordered half a dozen Colchester Oysters amazing, steak with marrowbone and thrice cooked chips (my mouth is watering just writing this) the steak was cooked to perfection medium rare, juicey, tender and flavoursome, the marrowbone was sensational soooooo moorish absolutely 👌🏽, chips beautiful, the monkfish was tender and meaty slighty overseasoned for me but thats just personal choice. We didnt order a dessert but was sent a complimentary one. The music was jazzy and smooth, perfect ambience and atmosphere, I highly recommend Upstairs at The Grill and will be retuning again very soon

Wow. This is a great spot if your in and around Chester. Both indoor and outdoor seating, serving food and drinks. The atmosphere was a great vibe and the food was really nice, it’s a shame the bar is positioned on the side of the road and a little pricey but that is overlooked by the venue and quality of service. Nestled in the historic Gamul House, The Brewery Tap is a charming pub that offers a wide array of beers including those from Chester's own brewery and local guest ales. The establishment also serves traditional ciders and seasonal dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. What sets this place apart is its sustainable approach - the brewery's used grains are repurposed as feed for their pigs, which in turn provide delicious pork for the pub.
Lovely craft beer pub in a converted historical building with high ceiling and tapestries. Great selection of cask and keg beers. Some are even brewed on premises. Staff are very knowledgeable. You need to climb stairs to enter so not great for those with disabilities. We ate there and they have a Monday to Thursday menu with great prices not to mention the choice of hearty options. Toilets at the back were very clean. Highly recommended.

Moules a Go-Go Bar & Bistro is a bright and modern family-owned restaurant in Chester, established in 1999. It offers a wide selection of seafood dishes, with a focus on Welsh mussels and oysters sourced directly from Anglesey. The menu also includes steak, rotisserie meat, vegetarian, and vegan options.
Moules a Go-Go, the best place for mussels in Chester. The restaurant has tonnes of seating and has really funky decor. Very hip and trendy. The staff are friendly and attentive too I'm delighted this place survived COVID, it's been around for nearly 25 years which speaks volumes.

Tried most restaurants in Chester and this one is the first one brings the wow feeling. Fish and duck leg taste great. Desert tastes very impressive. It is a genuine restaurant, and I absolutely love it—I keep going back again and again. The food is consistently excellent, and the service is fantastic. Right now, it’s definitely my favourite restaurant. You do need to enjoy mussels to start with, but the starter board is amazing, and the oysters were truly satisfying perfectly prepared, and go perfectly with wine.

Came back here as I remember really liking the place as a child and was still amazed with how good the restaurant still is. Me and my partner came into the restaurant at 19:30 on a Friday and greeted by the staff which were super friendly. The restaurant was very quiet as well which was very nice to see so we had no problem being seen when we needed to by the staff. Great selection on the menu and we chose the Seafood platter which we both really liked the look of as well as some extra garlic bread. We both really enjoyed the food. Although we would suggest avoiding the garlic bread as it was £4.70 and we only got two small pieces which we didn’t think was too great. Although we thought the seafood platter was really good for the price. We both really enjoyed all the food and would definitely come again.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Chester, Piccolino Chester is an upscale Italian restaurant that effortlessly combines contemporary design with a warm, inviting atmosphere. This charming eatery offers a delightful array of classic Italian dishes, including mouthwatering pastas and pizzas that are sure to please any palate. What sets Piccolino apart is its dedicated vegan and vegetarian menu, brimming with innovative options for those seeking plant-based delights. The seasonal menu ensures there's always something new to discover on each visit.
I’ve been to a few Piccolino restaurants before and really like the chain - has the feel of an independent rather than a small chain, despite being a small chain. This one in Chester is bright and welcoming, situated underneath The Leonardo hotel, opposite a big car park and near to the city walls. A decent location and only a few minutes’ walk into the City Centre - very convenient for the Roman Amphitheatre if you wanted to walk over after dinner and see the tethering stone. Booked online, but my booking was lost. No woe though, for they were still able to seat us straight away despite being busy. The table selection is a bit odd - some oversized benches for five dominate, with other tables feeling a little squished and overlooked in between. Got a nice big table on a side bench though, so that was good. Big open kitchen to the side, with more seating arrayed for singletons. A general air of bustle about the place. Wild. Invigorating. Service was very good - drinks on arrival. The beer was Sardinia’s own Ichnusa - you like to see it. The beer. Disappointed to see they only have Moretti glasses - I like beers served in their own branded glass or in something plain. Not the end of the world, but still. Food was excellent - giant arancini to start was gorgeous and then the Spagna pizza with hot honey and blue cheese. I like that pizza - plenty of honey on this one. Yum. Tiramisu for dessert, a nice square slab. No complaints at all about the food, all good and hearty. The people next to us had some sort of sharing steak platter which was huge. It scared me slightly to watch. Such a big piece of meat 😆 Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely return here in future.

Had the most amazing evening at Piccolino on Saturday evening for our wedding anniversary. Cosimo, Faten & the rest of the team were so friendly & attentive.Nothing was too much trouble & they were extremely busy. We were recommend dishes to try & everyone's meals were delicious. From Calamari, Pasta & Pizzas, the traditional Italian flavour & freshness of ingredients was a symphony to our taste buds. They also have an extensive wine & cocktail menu too. We can't wait till we are back in Chester so we can dine with you again but until then, our heart felt thanks for making our evening so special & ensuring our anniversary was one we will remember forever.

Food was fantastic, watchingbthe chefs work and the waiter service was second to none. The only downside was the music choice, louder than background and the beat was distracting, bordering on being too loud for conversations, more suited for a pub atmosphere not fine dining

I visit my daughter in Liverpool every month, but this time we decided to visit Chester instead of staying in Liverpool. After several hours of being a tourist, we were very hungry and decided upon Piccolino. Really friendly welcome and we were shown to our table and given menus and told that a couple of things had sold out, as it was late afternoon when we arrived. There was a good choice of options. Don't be put off by the menu on display outside. That is only a fraction of the options available. The food is really great. I had the Bruschetta Classica to start followed by the Calzone. Both were fresh and really tasted wonderful. Despite eating a lot for the first two courses, it was rude to skip desert and we were not disappointed. We left with very full tummies and contented. The staff were really friendly and helpful without being overbearing. 100% would recommend

Dumpling restaurant
Pierogi, a newly opened Polish cafe in Chester, has quickly become a local favorite. The owners are known for their friendliness and hard work in creating delicious handmade dumplings that often sell out. The menu offers hearty soups and an assortment of plump dumplings, with flavors like sauerkraut and mushroom or sweet curd cheese and vanilla. Visitors recommend trying the mixed option to sample each variety.
Excellent dumplings! It is a very simple dish but very hard to master to the level found here. They are filled with a lot of mixture and all of them came perfect considering they are all handmade. We have tried multiple variations and all of them were excellent. I kind of regret not trying the special of the day as it sounded more experimental but considering how good the standard ones have been, we’ll have to come again one day. Great service and very nice place to dine it. Bravo!

We visited this lovely place with our family and it was absolutely wonderful. We tried pierogi ruskie (potato and cheese), pierogi with cabbage, and pierogi with spinach—all of them were absolutely delicious. You really can’t go wrong with any of the flavours! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and it’s also dog-friendly, which was very helpful for us. We even took some pierogi home to enjoy later. Thank you so much for having us today—we can’t wait to come back🤗

Love the Polish dumplings and borscht, we added fried garlic on top. The dumplings are very similar to Chinese dim sum dumplings and Japanese gyoza. The borscht is a broth, it's really good on a cold day. It's a hole in the wall so there's not much room to dine in and they only take cash.

Was nice to sit by the window watching passerbies. Liked the fact that wine is served by glass or carafe by default, since the two of us never manage to actually finish a bottle. All the dishes were classics with a twist, such as Caesar salad, but with ox tongue. Service was friendly and unimposing. Overall, great experience. The place is tiny, so book in advance.

Lovely reataurant staff very attentive and knowledgeable about the wine and food. Food was amazing not something you see or eat everyday. The only issue was they don't take cash which to me is awful they were very lucky we had our card otherwise they would of been forced to take cash. Joseph Benjamin is a modern and compact restaurant located in Chester, offering bistro-style dishes made from seasonal local produce. The establishment has a diverse menu and provides excellent service, making it an ideal place for a refined night out. The restaurant has been recognized with the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for nine consecutive years, reflecting its commitment to quality. Run by brothers Joseph and Benjamin Wright, the bistro offers intimate and warm dining experiences with well-judged flavors on classic dishes.
Booked ahead of a stay in Chester after searching for the best restaurants. The only availability was two stools in the window but I’m so glad we took them as it provided a great spot for people watching. We just had some olives to start and they were amazing (a Spanish queen olive called Gordal). We shared the paella for main which is made fresh to order. It was really very good, washed down with a French gin called G’vine which was new to me (and I have tried a lot of gin). I was impressed that the G&T was served in a small glass rather than the huge stemmed glasses which drip condensation due to the massive amount of ice. Finally we shared the baked cheesecake which was very rich and nicely accompanied with a fig jam and strawberry. This restaurant is not cheap, however the food was great quality, cooked fresh and the staff were lovely, so definitely worth it. The decor is low key and very clean. I think the price reflects the location and I would definitely recommend it for a romantic meal or celebration.

What a wonderful meal here today! Felt welcomed on arrival and the staff were attentive throughout, but not rushing us at all which makes a nice change. She was told that the kitchen closed at 14:30, do we could have a table at 14:00. We arrived to what appeared to be a very busy restaurant. The clientele was varied, from young to old, including children, and had a great vibe. We were shown straight to our table, and given menus and a jug of water. We both ordered the crab linguine to start, with a portion of sourdough bread and butter, and we both thought it was lovely - fresh ingredients and really tasty! The sourdough was nice too! For my main, I opted for the chicken ceasar salad with fresh anchovies, which made the dish for me. I also went for a portion of chips on the side. I really enjoyed it! My wife chose the shell-on king prawns (no photo, I'm afraid 😲) and the half hispi cabbage with sriracha sauce, both of which were excellent, especially the cabbage! We both went for a dessert, with me going for a brownie with peanut butter ice cream which was great, and my wife chose the balsamic strawberries with olive oil cake and mascarpone ice cream. She enjoyed that, but preferred the brownie! All in all a great meal and experience. We would heartily recommend this un-pretentious restaurant, and will hopefully be visiting again soon!

Excellent paella! Had the duck and artichoke. Nice relaxed ambience. The very cheesy cheese cake is for the connoisseur. Recommend this place

Opera Restaurant Bar & Grill is a grand dining space located in a Grade II listed building, offering an internationally inspired grill menu using top-notch ingredients. The restaurant can accommodate up to 400 diners and features a ground floor restaurant and bar, a first-floor restaurant and bar with a music lounge, as well as a south-facing roof terrace. Known for its opulent setting, the venue offers bottomless brunch with an array of delectable dishes and drinks.
After two previous attempts failing due to ill health it was great to finally enjoy the delights of Opera Grill in Chester. We had booked general seating but on arrival were pleasantly surprised to be taken upstairs to a lovely terraced dining area with live music adding to the atmosphere. The space had a great vibe and after settling in we were warmly welcomed by our server. We started with some fresh bread which was really nice before moving on to our steaks which were cooked beautifully, paired with excellent chips. Even though we were already full dessert was a must and both choices were delicious. The whole evening lived up to expectations and made it well worth the third attempt. We really enjoyed our time and will definitely look forward to returning again in the future.

Had such a great evening at Opera Grill in Chester! The atmosphere is lively but still relaxed, making it a lovely spot for a night out. I ordered the fillet steak and it was cooked to absolute perfection – tender, full of flavour, and easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. What really stood out though was the service. Jemima took care of us all evening and she was fantastic – so friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and she added such a nice personal touch to the experience. Great food, amazing service, and a brilliant vibe – can’t wait to come back!

We visited and ordered the Sunday roast beef, asking for it medium, but unfortunately it was incredibly tough – we couldn’t even cut through it with a steak knife. The roast potatoes were also extremely dry, with skins that were almost impossible to cut. We had to send the dish back as it was simply inedible – like chewing rubber. We then ordered the steak for two (£100), which looked fantastic when it arrived. While the presentation was great, it was again over-charred on the outside and just okay in the middle. I’m not sure what’s going wrong in the kitchen, but the quality of the main dishes was a real letdown. Only the trimmings were enjoyable. On a more positive note, the service was excellent. Big shout out to staff and the Manager – they were all welcoming, professional, and handled the situation with great care. The ambience is incredible – the space looks fantastic and has so much potential. It’s just a real shame that the food didn’t live up to the rest of the experience.

We had a fantastic experience at Opera Restaurant Bar & Grill! It was our first time visiting, and everything from the atmosphere to the food was absolutely perfect. A special thank you to Mark ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ , who served us—his customer service was excellent! He was warm, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. We’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended

Me and my husband shared the Treacle Steak, it was the best steak we have ever eaten, we wasn’t really sure what to expect but it exceeded all our expectations. The service was quick and our waitress was great, it was a special occasions and they spoiled us with a free dessert which we appreciated. We are leaving the country soon but have decided we have to return to have this one last time.

We always have a good experience in Opera, whether work or personal evenings. Gary and the team work hard to accommodate us. The new terrace is pretty special and a nice place to spend the evening. I normally enjoy the black cod or a sharing steak, the chimi-churi is excellent.

Italian restaurant
Restaurant
Sergios is a family-run Italian restaurant in Chester that serves huge portions of delicious food. The staff are friendly and fast, and there's always plenty of space at the tables. One downside is that tips aren't passed on to the staff, but this doesn't detract from the quality of the food or service. If you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience in Chester, then Sergios is definitely worth a visit!
We went on Tuesday evening. It was very busy, the staff & service was lovely. We did have starters but I forgot to take photos of them. It’s the best Veal Milanese & pasta I have eaten in years. It was piping hot as well. My partner enjoyed his lamb chops. Another wonderful dining experience for us….. will definitely be back!
Louisa S — Google review
Been here before years ago and liked it so came back. And pleased I did as very good all around. Huge menu and reasonable prices, friendly staff although if not busy they didn't seem organized as got asked 3 times if I wanted a drink. Food came out very quick and quite tasty and big portion. Even though not busy it was quite loud with the tile floors, not a cozy romantic place for dinner. Had good wifi when found the password. So would recommend and come back next time here
David J — Google review
Sergio boasts that it’s been established 40 years, problem is that it shows. Probably still the same furniture and decor of when it first opened its doors 40 years ago. I’m all for trying to make you feel an Italian ambiance, but not from the 1980’s! The place is in dire need of a major overhaul along with the food that they’re serving. We had their lunch time deal, two course £14.50. A decent price but the drink prices certainly ramp it up. My starter of sardines were out of a tin. My wife’s starter calamari, not home made but out of a freezer bag. My main was chicken breast in a cream and mustard sauce, a £2 supplement implemented - why? My wife’s main was spaghetti ragu, served in a 40 year old dish, not hard to cook spaghetti and a jar of tomato sauce poured on. I’m of Italian decent and I know what Italian food should be and taste like, unfortunately Sergio’s didn’t live up to my expectations or impress me, sorry but I would not recommend or revisit.
Mario L — Google review
Came here on recommendation for a couples dinner. Had the calimari as a starter and it was really good. Shared a beautiful bottle of rosé and had steak and chicken for our main. The meat was delicious and cooked exactly as we wanted, the flavours were unique and delicious. Our service was great, quick to bring a smile to our faces and incredibly friendly. Had a lovely dinner without a complaint
Edan H — Google review
Excellent Front of House staff, very attentive and considerate. The steak, however, was awful. £23 for a cardboard thin piece of meat the size of my palm with a side of vegetables looks like an addition on a starter. It was like a kids meal. I wouldn't have been as bothered but it was overcooked, barely seasoned and lacking any sauce. The, so called, chefs should have been absolutely embarrassed to send that out to a customer. Atrocious to the point I refused to treat myself to a second drink or dessert as I didn't want to hand the restaurant any more money.

Back again for a second time with work colleagues, whole experience was excellent and can confirm the pasta is equally as good as the pizza. First visit, just excellent 👍🏼

Wonderful place serving a huge range of pasta and other Italian dishes very close to the cathedral. Authentic atmosphere. They have a very reasonably-priced lunch menu and a-la-carte. We chose the lunch menu and the bill came to just over £20 a head including drinks. They provided a surprise birthday profiterole with a candle for my mother who was celebrating her birthday, and sang "Happy Birthday" with us! Such a touching detail, thank you!!

The Architect is a restaurant located in Chester, close to the city walls and Roodee racecourse. It opened in 2012 and is housed in the converted St Martin's Lodge, which was originally the home of architect Thomas Harrison. The restaurant offers modern British cuisine served in elegant Georgian rooms as well as a modern extension and outdoor terrace. The building overlooks two of Harrison's important commissions, Chester Castle and Grosvenor Bridge.
I cannot thank the Architect enough! We had one of my friend’s hen party dinners with you and we were so impressed. I dropped off a few decorations the day before and when we arrived, we were shown to our private room and everything was perfect! The staff went above and beyond. As always, the food and drinks were amazing and such great quality. Thank you for a perfect evening!

Have been wanting to try this place every time we stayed in Chester. Couldn't fault it such a lovely place and love the daily menu and home cooked dishes. Love the view to the racecourse, will definitely return. I had the fish and chips and my partner had the cheese pie both were delicious.

The food was delicious, ordered a beef roast dinner and it was up there with one of the best. The venue itself was lovely, and the staff were really friendly with great customer service. As the table was booked for my birthday, the team left a happy birthday card on the table, which was really special! Free parking at the venue was possible for some of us, but others had to pay in the parking lot across the road. Keep in mind if you are driving!

Opposite Chester Racecourse. Handy for parking in the racecourse. Quick light lunch, just had a couple of starters and a steak sandwich from their light bites menu served until 5:30. Again presented nicely and delicious. We have never had a bad meal here. Place is always immaculate. Private rooms available to hire. Love the posh toilets 👏👏Love the outdoor seating benches and the under cover area even on a wintry day. Always great service from smily, uniformed staff. 10/10 👜 handbag restaurant review for our lunch today.

Absolutely lovely venue, the barman was really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our food and would definitely return. The only thing that let it down was the chef smoking on the terrace right by the door to the restaurant at the end of service and smoke blowing into the restaurant. Also, staff commenting on another member of staff with customers in earshot…unfair and unprofessional.

After meeting Cristian in the town after a long lunch out, where he assisted me with my mobility scooter, we called in on chance. All round a good night out, but made memorable by the great service from Cristian & his team. First time in; absolutely not the last!

Booked this place because we didn’t know anywhere in Chester and it looked very nice on Google maps. Wanted an Italian with a bit of atmosphere. It’s really nothing like it looks online as it’s on the main road and very small inside. Needless to say we thought the food looked nice enough to give it a go. After sitting for over 30mins I had to go and ask for a drinks menu and to be served. By that time we were also ready to order food but were told we had to wait for other people to be served. Starters came fairly soon after ordering and we all ok. But the mains were average at best. The rump steak was ordered medium rear and came well done and when we raised it was taken away with no comments on what was happening. 2 of us had finished our meals before the waitress came back to say the steak was on its way, which left my son eating on his own. Even when we asked for some ketchup we were told we had to wait for her to clean a table first! 2 drinks we ordered never arrived and we left the restaurant very disappointed and underwhelmed. Not great from start to finish.

Koconut Grove is a contemporary gem nestled in Chester, showcasing the vibrant flavors of South Indian cuisine. The extensive menu features traditional dishes crafted with freshly ground spices for an authentic taste experience. Guests can enjoy various spice levels tailored to their preferences, ensuring that every palate is satisfied.
One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in a while! We had the potato dosa, the fish biriyani and also poppadoms, lentil soup and chilli paneer to start. Absolutely delicious and excellent sauces to match the dosa and biriyani! I’ll be returning probably for my birthday. Friendly and fast service too.

I had to wait almost 50 minutes to get my food, which was frustrating. The Chicken Manchurian was disappointing — not spicy or flavorful, even though I specifically asked for it to be spicy. The garlic naan was small and definitely not worth the £3 price. On a positive note, the vegetable biryani was tasty and came in good portions. Overall, the long wait and lackluster dishes made the experience underwhelming.

Lovely time out for a student/ staff department dinner from the uni. The servers were so good at accommodating all 16 of us and food was really lovely. Had a chicken tikka masala with pilau rice and garlic naan! (Although naan was a bit on the thin side). Food was warm and staff always checked everybody for drink top ups regularly. Lovely atmosphere and decoration in there as well as nice bars nearby. Definitely recommend.

Visited Sunday with my son. A buffet was on offer for £13.99 and looked very tempting. As it was my first visit I wanted to order from the main menu to experience what they really had to offer. The service was perfect as it was attentive but not over baring. When our glass was empty we were immediately asking if we'd like another (no looking around or trying to get someone's attention) a few minutes into each course someone came to check politely if everything was okay? Plates were cleared promptly after each course. 10 out of 10 for service 100% the correct interaction. Not being a run of the mill curry house. Koconut Grove specialized in southern Indian cuisine so a majority of what was on offer was alien to me. The menu was in great font as I didn't need to use my reading glasses. The meals had a good clear description of each course which made it easy to choose our course's. The food came as a generous portion and I couldn't fault it. Your are given a choice of how spicy you would like each course and gentle advice on which dishes potentially be a bit to spicy for some. The draught beer was very clean and the glasses didn't have a residual taste of other flavours ( I think some restaurants clean the glasses in the same dishwasher they use for the crockery this certainly didn't seem the case here) 10 out of 10 across the board will definitely be going back. Thank you for a delicious meal and fantastic service.

Lovely little restaurant with friendly staff, great service and good food. We went for dinner as part of a little pre Christmas trip to Chester. The small plates were delightful. We had the focaccia, meatball and fried lasagna. Every item was lovely… and I’ve definitely been inspired to deep fry my lasagna in future! We had the onglet, bhaji burger and broccoli tagliatelle for mains. The onglet was delightful, but I didn’t regret my choice (the tagliatelle). The mango ketchup that came with the bhaji burger was too sweet for us, but I’m sure it would have suit those who have a sweeter palate. If we had extra stomach space, I would have loved to try the lasagna (because the fried version was so nice!) Nothing wrong with the dessert per se, but they were the weakest course… which was a little odd. The chocolate crème brûlée was fine but nothing to write home about … while the sticky toffee pudding was not the right texture for me. The coffees were delightful though!! Overall, this was a good find! I’d love to go back during the day and try their brunch - the Malaysian in me is intrigued by the chai tow kway & paratha (the description is that for chai tow kway so not sure where the paratha comes in, but I wanna try it!!)

Came here for the first time in summer 2022 and had a great time visiting again this December 2024. The storm couldn't keep me away from a breakfast menu and coffee that's as fantastic as ever! Amazing service and made my toddler very welcome too.

Nestled beside the charming Grosvenor Park and just a stone's throw from Chester's city center, The Forge at Hotel Indigo is a culinary gem that has quickly made its mark. On opening day, I had the privilege of tasting Chef Mike Robinson’s signature dish: slow-cooked shoulder of roe deer from Bathurst Estate, paired with wood-fired beetroot and rich deer gravy—a true delight!
Let’s get straight to the point; the food here is absolutely incredible. Honestly some of the best food I’ve ever had. And for a very reasonable price too. On average, a 3-course meal & cocktail here will cost you £50-£55. Given the quality of the food, I think that’s actually a really good price, and cheaper than most other city restaurants that I visit these days. Plus, there’s no service charge! A rare commodity in this day and age. It’s a nice venue too — if I’m being harsh, my only criticism would be that the service was a tiny bit slow and a little inattentive. Could have been a bit friendlier/chattier. Still, undoubtedly a 5 star restaurant that I will definitely be returning to.

Enjoyed a special dinner with my son here. The staff made us feel at home, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and family-friendly. We will definitely come back again! It was the best steak I ever had 😊
Liudmila C — Google review
All i can say is that i regret reading the other one-star ratings too late. The waiter was inattentive, the ribeye steak to share was so so bad - its chewy, cooked unevenly, some very dry some too raw when we have asked for medium rare. The dirty mash and sauce for the steaks are so salty that I just almost didn’t touch it.

The food is absolutely amazing. Quality ingredients, so not really expensive for what you’re getting, expertly cooked by a caring chef and team. Friendly waiting staff, good beer. If you’re umming and ahhing, book it!

Literally the best carrots I’ve ever had in my life. Good choices for vegetarians. Mushroom parfait gets a special mention too. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, everything arrived swiftly and the wine selection was fantastic.
Jack T — Google review
Went there last night for the first time. The food was lovely (esp the dirty mash, WOW!!!). The staff were brilliant and the atmosphere fantastic. The only gripe was when we got sat down we were OFFERED water, brilliant, it was only when I got the bill that I realised that they had charged me £4.95, if I had known I would have asked for iced tap water. I don’t pay for any drinkable water when you can get it for free. It felt a little bit like a scam. Other than that it was brilliant.

Really good food, accommodating for vegan and gluten free diets. If you want a fine dining experience in Chester, this is the place to come. All the staff were extremely friendly and attentive to our needs.

An amazing meal! We had a fillet steak to share between two that was cooked to perfection - one half blue and one half medium. The staff were amazing from the bar staff through to the restaurant staff. In particular Gino was very helpful and friendly making the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Nestled in the heart of Chester, La Brasserie at The Chester Grosvenor is a chic Parisian-style eatery that has been delighting diners for over two decades. With its elegant leather and wood decor, this brasserie offers an upscale menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. Following a contemporary redesign in 2018, it continues to impress with exceptional service that reflects the hotel's long-standing reputation since 1865.
From the moment I walked into La Brasserie in Chester, everything felt flawless. The ambiance is stunning – classic yet modern – with warm lighting and elegant décor that creates a sophisticated and relaxing atmosphere. Jerome was exceptional – highly professional, attentive, and personable. From recommending the perfect drinks to guiding me through the menu, his service made the whole experience feel personal and seamless. The food was outstanding: beautifully presented, perfectly balanced flavors, and clearly made with top-quality ingredients. Every course was memorable, from the starters to the desserts. Overall, La Brasserie delivered one of my best dining experiences in Chester – a perfect combination of elegant setting, world-class service, and exceptional food. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a refined and memorable evening. ✨👌

Unfortunately not recommendable for vegans. I was excited to choose from the vegan menu and picked the Jersey Royal fricassee. What I received were a few potatoes with green peas and green leaves, no sauce, barely a trace of seasoning. For £21, I can imagine that his dish has a great profit margin. I was hoping my partner would be more satisfied with his steak in pepper sauce (£27), but he was disappointed too. The service was great and the interior looked very nice, I just wish the food matched those standards. I would recommend visiting a place with more vegan cooking experience.

Stayed at the hotel quite a few times so usually have breakfast here, and often a nightcap as convenient. Last evening after travel I was tired so decided to have a light meal here, so this is a mixed review. Wonderful elegant decor, super nice staff, interesting view from many tables of everyone walking by on the street outside. Breakfast has always been good as are drinks with decent wine menu, and not too crazy prices. But the food prices are crazy expensive, it was nice but fortunately didn't want much as wouldn't pay those prices for a proper meal, even with all the above positives

Continental is included in all stays at the hotel - we decided to eat elsewhere for most of our trip but ate here on our last morning. You have to book your slot with reception the day before. It is table service so no help yourself buffet. The service is really great across the hotel & everyone is very attentive. My partner had the porridge which he found was quite watery. I had the fruit salad & yoghurt and we shared the selection of pastries which was lovely! The coffee was good, much better than the machine coffee you get at some hotels.

Very much enjoyed a sweet treat and fruit juice on my visit. The service was perfect and all the staff attentive and friendly. The surroundings; a little bit of old fashioned luxury. I was seated at 11.45am and the restaurant was really starting to fill up by 12.15pm so I would recommend booking in advance if possible. The caramel, chocolate and crumble tart shown was heavenly!

We enjoyed a delectable lunch at la brasserie. We ordered sandwiches, cakes & scones with cream. The service was friendly, polite and efficient. Would definitely recommend a visit as a treat 😊. For 3 of us including tea & bottled water & service tip was approx £60

Just had an excellent 2 night stay here. Service was excellent and our room was lovely, clean comfortable and very quiet at night. The air conditioning was extremely easy to use and was very effective. Breakfast both days was very nice. Parking in the Grovensor Centre Car Park (chargeable) allowed for very easy access to the hotel and it felt safe to leave the car there. Our thanks to all.

My wife and I stayed here the night of our wedding, along with our immediate families. The rooms were incredibly luxurious and spacious with lots of care and attention paid to them. Bed was incredibly comfy - we didn't want to ever leave! The breakfast the next day - which was most needed - was delicious and fresh, and everyone enjoyed it. A huge thank you to the staff who really went the extra mile to assure that we had a wonderful evening when we arrived and throughout our stay. From organising the block booking of rooms, to arranging breakfast for us all the following day to the personal touches special to my wife and I to celebrate. We're locals to the city and it was truly a wonderful experience to get to stay here.

Ok the location is great. The door staff and the staff in the brasserie very good. Food good and not badly priced. Good value. They add 12.5% service charge automatically which is strange. You may wish to leave more but just pay the bill anyway. Reception is efficient but the reception area is nothing special, in fact a bit dark and drab. Place needs a little bit of updating TLC. Not bad and great for location but not really 5*.

As expected the hotel was fantastic. The staff couldn't do enough for us, every area was very clean. Yes this is a more expensive hotel, but you really do get what you pay for. If you want the afternoon tea book in advance as this is popular Worth a visit if you can.

Wow how the mighty have fallen this used to be the best hotel in the area with a Michelin starred restaurant and a member of the leading hotels in world. Now it’s a pale shadow it’definitely shouldn’t be 5 stars anymore. A lot of the staff are either rude, very rude or couldn’t give a damn and the rooms a very tired and dated. Very sad to see, it used to be a lovely place for a luxurious treat…now all you will get is a headache or a nostalgic pang for what it was.

Wonderful location. The accommodation size and quality is what we expected for the price of a suite. We did have one precariously wonky and unstable table. The bed was incredibly comfy. We enjoyed being able to order breakfast to the room.

Shockingly poor service for such a property. No comprehension of service standards or even basic etiquette. Auctioning food at the table is not what I expected from The Grosvenor. The food, once served was excellent. Almost worth the visit but not quite. Such a shame.

The Oakfield, situated within Chester Zoo, is a must-visit eatery that offers a diverse selection of food and beverages. This contemporary pub boasts an exceptional ambiance and friendly staff. The menu features locally sourced dishes alongside a variety of carefully chosen beers, wines, and spirits. Additionally, patrons can indulge in afternoon tea with or without prosecco, catering to dietary preferences such as gluten-free and vegan options.
Visited near Christmas in an afternoon for lunch. The food was really nice - and a little bit more unusual for what you'd normally expect from a 'tourist attraction' type place! The staff were friendly and helpful with assisting with a gluten intolerance that one of our party has. Would definitely recommend for if you are visiting Chester Zoo!

Mine and my wife's 1st year wedding anniversary today 25-04-25, when I booked the table I told them we got married here a year ago, when we arrived we got a complimentary glass of champagne each and a lovely card. We also got a lovely plate of the team congratulating us. Wonderful team, definitely making this a yearly anniversary for us. Thank you. Also food was amazing, cooked to perfection and hostess was fantastic and everyone made us feel 🤗 very welcome

Olha M — Google review
The food you can pick up anywhere at Chester Zoo is usually pretty good. However, the food at the Oakfield is excellent. It's probably best described as "pub food", but taken to another level. Really tasty, well presented and served quickly too. Even at peak times, the food seemed to come out fast, which is an added benefit if you're trying to see the whole zoo and don't want to 'waste time' in a restaurant. There was a range of options available, from a burger, fish and chips, to slightly more exotic tacos and similar dishes. Coupled with a wide range of drinks, you could spend some time in here and completely forget that you were in a major tourist attraction at the same time. You do need a zoo ticket to visit, so even if you book a table, you'll need to either be a zoo member, or already have a ticket for the day. There's no way around this. One slight downside was, when asked how a particular dish would be made gluten free, as per the menu options, our server replied "don't know" and made no offer to go find out. Didn't fill me with confidence, so I'm opted for something safer. All that said - well worth a visit.
Alastair S — Google review
You absolutely need to reserve a table for The Oakfield, and upon arrival, you can see why. The building and its location within the zoo are stunning and promise a real treat. Sadly, the promise of the setting wasn't met by the experience. The food itself was fine – there was nothing to complain about, but it wasn't memorable or special either. It did the job, but didn't feel like it matched the grandeur of the surroundings. The most disappointing aspect by far was the service, which was severely lacking. Despite seeing at least four staff members on the floor, they seemed completely inattentive and disorganised. Our main courses were brought to the table before our drinks had even arrived, and we had to prompt the server to bring them over. When it came to ordering pudding, we were simply ignored. The staff avoided eye contact, seeming preoccupied with polishing cutlery and talking amongst themselves. It felt like we were an inconvenience. Overall, the impression was of a young and inexperienced team with no real focus on service delivery, which resulted in a thoroughly lacklustre and frustrating meal.
Arran W — Google review
A beautiful, old school, red brick pub/restaurant inside a zoo! What's not to like! Super friendly staff, fabulous food and we sat in front of the open fire before we ate! Definitely worth a visit whether you are at the zoo or not, as there is separate access!

We were here for my wife's birthday, as she loves the zoo and so decided to book into the oakfield for an early dinner. It has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The food and drinks all arrived very promptly and the food was very well presented. It was a great afternoon break before continuing around the zoo. We will definitely book to go again. Thanks to the staff.

Arkle is a celebrated fine-dining restaurant located in the famous Grosvenor Hotel. It offers a la carte and tasting menus, boasting an extensive selection of over 1000 wines. The restaurant has a rich culinary history, having held a Michelin star under Simon Radley for over two decades. Chef Elliot Hill continues to impress with scrumptious five-course tasting menus that celebrate Cheshire's culinary heritage while incorporating contemporary techniques.
I had an afternoon tea at the Arkle in The Chester Grosvenor purchased for me as a birthday present. My partner & I selected a mixture of traditional & gentleman’s afternoon tea to share between us. The traditional is finger sandwiches and the gentleman’s was bigger items including Welsh rarebit, chicken roll & an amazing battered haddock sandwich. The sweet treats were beautifully made and it was made extra special with a chocolate happy birthday! The selection of teas was vast, I went for English breakfast and my partner chose the rum coffee tea which was really different but very nice. The service was great, it did get a bit quieter with servers after 4pm though. There isn’t a dress code at this time, I dressed a bit fancy as it was a special occasion but others were very casual so anything goes really!

It was our first visit (a Birthday celebration) and its certainly won't be our last. The entire dining experience was faultless. We received a warm welcome, enjoyed stunning oer d'oeuvres and fizz, before moving into the restaurant for the exquisite 7 course tasting menu which was accompanied by superb well thought out drinks pairing. A social mention to Sommelier Boris, whose knowledge and passion shone through and made sure that we had a memorable experience. Hats off to Chef Elliot and team. Chester should be proud! Absolutely wonderful, you know you’re in for a treat when you start wondering why the pre-starter canopies aren’t expanded into a main dish. The food was great, as was the service (special mention to Boris the Sommelier and Katie), a few nitpicks that took away from a 5-star review BUT does not warrant you not visiting – it’s a must if you’re in the area/want to take someone out for something special! - This was a surprise for my other half and when we arrived, we were placed into the bar for the pre-mentioned canopies. Upon being asked what we’d like to drink and me declining, knowing I had booked the wine flight so we didn’t need cocktails, I was met with a visibly shocked waiter that asked if I ‘was sure’ in a way that, for the first time ever, I felt I had to justify my autonomy to say no. It was a very strange reaction if honest and I only mention it because it jarred an otherwise streamlined experience. - After opting for the wine flight, a gift for my other half as I’m not too keen on wine, I was offered the opportunity to have half glasses to which I gratefully accepted. I was, to my surprise, also told that because of this, my bill will reflect this but when the meal was concluded and I was asked to pay, this wasn’t the case and I was charged the full amount. I didn’t say anything at the time, because I don’t want to be ‘that person’ and haggle over £40ish, but at the same time again it was a slight jar of an otherwise extremely smooth experience. -The cheese was a slight letdown. I am victim to having experienced a wide range of cheeses, so this point is entirely subjective, but worth mentioning.
Kahmal S — Google review
We had the 7 course tasting menu. The food was beautifully presented and the New Zealand Pinot Noir was lovely. Couldn’t fault the service or the presentation of the food. We were full at the end. Highly recommended
Andy B — Google review
The food was incredible here, and the staff very welcoming, really making the experience. I must say one negative though as is my duty for allergy sufferers - I am lactose intolerant and had pre emailed this to the restaurant. When we got there, they knew this and referenced it. I was impressed that all members of staff seemed to be aware. On one course the staff member told me I could not have the lobster dish because it was cooked in butter. This was different to what the first member of staff had said as she had discussed with me if that was what I wanted. No bother, all the food was delicious. Imagine my surprise then that tucking into my tomato pasta alternative it was covered in cheese... To be fair to the staff, they did all seem mortified and gave us a free drink each. However, if I was allergic to dairy that's a really serious mistake to make. We were out celebrating so I let it slide more than I normally would and I did end up feeling bad for the servers! The end to end experience was fantastic, but be prepared for a long night. From the start of our booking to paying it was nearly 4 hours and we didn't have the cheese course. Not sure if that's usual but seems a long time...
Verity W — Google review
My wife and I had the tasting menu and it was excellent to be honest, certainly up there with the best we've had. The service, as you can imagine in an establishment such as this, was top notch. All staff were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. We ate at the Savoy a couple of months ago and the service and food at the Arkle genuinely blows the socks off the Savoy. Very expensive by the time you've had a bottle and a few cocktails (our bill was just shy of £500 for 2 of us), but you genuinely pay for what you get here. It's very good.
John P — Google review
One of the best restaurants I've ever visited (probably the best!). From the moment we arrived, we were treated with great care. We opted for the tasting menu, which began with a range of canapés (my favorite was the one with red caviar and pomegranate notes). Afterwards, we were ushered from the bar to a spectacular dining area where we had an incredible experience. The service throughout the evening was friendly and knowledgeable. We even had the opportunity to chat with the chef towards the end, amusingly about how to cook asparagus. Thank you so much for this memorable experience! We will definitely be back.

Nestled in the charming heart of Cheshire, Twenty Eight is a delightful British tapas restaurant that truly celebrates the essence of farm-to-table dining. Sourcing its produce from the nearby Field28, a local farm committed to sustainable practices, this eatery showcases vibrant and inventive dishes crafted by head chef Jay Tanners.
The meal at this restaurant was absolutely exceptional. The sauce in every dish was excellent, and we had to order extra bread to finish it. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an outstanding meal. I will certainly be returning next week, because the food is simply that good.
Jun M — Google review
We really enjoyed our time here. The restaurant is really pretty with a nice atmosphere due to the music playing in the background and the lighting. The food was nice but I suppose we expected much more from this restaurant. We really enjoyed the lamb special that was incredible and the sourdough with the olives. However, we also got the chicken thigh, cabbage and artichokes dishes. All three in our eyes lacked that wow factor. We also found the dishes extremely salty. The chicken thigh lacked any real flavour. We can tell, clearly a lot of effort goes into the dishes aesthetically and that doesn’t go unnoticed but unfortunately it wasn’t incredible in the taste as we would be expected. Overall, I would recommend to go for the experience though.
Wida N — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous food and attentive service. Manages to combine a pleasant chilled vibe with a touch of the high-end feel. The food was exceptional across all meat, fish and vegetarian options. Even the Olives were like those fantastic ones you only normally get abroad. Well worth checking out the specials board, example in photos. The wine choice was the Sauvignon-semillon which is new on the menu. Staff were super friendly and helpful despite being busy. Highly recommend if you are having a special occasion or just a nice meal out in Chester.

Went here on the 4/5/24 with my wife, the set up they have there was great. The food was like nothing I’ve tried before, it really is English tapas. We had four plates each which was probably two too many as we were slightly too full for pudding at the end. If you’re a lover of food and like to try new things please give this place a go. The waitresses that looked after us were very busy but still gave us time to chat. Honestly well done guys you’ve smashed it.

Great experience, as you walk into twenty eight their great staff welcomes you with a great smile and their fantastic menu. We opted for a lot of their vegetarian dishes which were all beautifully presented and equally as tasty, the beetroot tartare and the potatoes with the gerkin ketchup the top 2 favourites. We also tried the sourdough crumpet with bacon and the mussels that were just the highlight of the meal. To finish, the cheeseboard was just the cherry on top of the cake.

The food at Twenty Eight is truly special. Artfully presented, deliciously complex, and elegant without being stuffy. Came here for my brother’s birthday and so glad we did! The whole experience was amazing from start to finish. The chef’s fire show was great fun — loads of energy, laughter, and interaction that really brought the evening to life. It wasn’t just dinner; it was a proper show! The food itself was delicious too — full of flavour and cooked perfectly in front of us. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a really memorable night. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Amazing night for my daughters 21st birthday meal. Great food, great staff, great entertainment. Kids loved it too. Only one feed forward I would give is to let people know when they’re doing the fire as we would have liked to video that part too

Visited yesterday with two vegans, and two neurodiverse children, so we were quite a fussy table when it came to dietary requirements and specific food preparation. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They accommodated every need and checked with us along the way, laughed with us, and never once treated us like we were a bother. The food was absolutely fantastic. Considering the teppanyaki elements which are grilled to order right in front of you, it was all cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. The sushi and other bits that were prepared in the kitchen were beautifully presented and so fresh. And my daughter who has very limited "safe foods" was catered to and ate more than I've seen her eat all week. 🙌✨ Finally, the atmosphere was second to none. The staff were all so welcoming and friendly. Whenever food wasn't being prepared they would find another way to keep us entertained and laughing. I'm Autistic and new situations can be so overwhelming, but I felt right at home within minutes of being there. I couldn't recommend this place more highly. 5* 🩵

If you're on the hunt for an authentic taste of Turkey in Chester, look no further than Istanbul BBQ! This charming restaurant is a haven for lovers of grilled meats and vegetables, all expertly cooked over a traditional charcoal grill. The atmosphere is enhanced by the sight of skilled Turkish chefs preparing your meal right before your eyes through a glass-enclosed BBQ area. Families will feel right at home here, as the welcoming staff go above and beyond to engage with guests of all ages.
Probably the best halal food in Chester, I know there's not much competition but the food is really flavourful and fresh. They also have a place to pray salah, great staff and good location.

It has been one of my favourite restaurants in Chester for so many years. We go there at least once a month and have never been disappointed. Food is devine, freshly cooked from live kitchen. Aroma of food is amazing. Good service, friendly staff.. sometimes it gets busy but service always quick. Atmosphere is cosy and gives Turkish vibes. As if you are sitting at a restaurant in Istanbul. All my friends loved this place.

Food was absolutely beautiful, warm welcoming restaurant, great service from staff. I came to Chester for my birthday weekend and I have to give my special thanks to Naz who went above and beyond and ended my weekend on a much more positive note. Naz has great customer service skills, always happy to help, friendly, positive and has great energy. If I’m ever in Chester again, I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant, I guarantee you will not be disappointed! Thank you again to Naz and the team :) xx

This place is consistently spectacular. Amazingly authentic Turkish food, family run by the most beautiful friendly people and an incredibly fun and vibrant atmosphere. We come from Manchester every year for our wedding anniversary and this place never disappoints. We had the mixed meat platter for 2 and wowzers, come hungry because the portions are huge but so so delicious. We finished the evening talking with the owner into the early hours. She is a lovely lady and we will be back next year

We booked in last minute on a Friday evening and then managed to squeeze us in. The place was packed when we arrived but we were shown to our table really quickly and drinks orders taken. Staff were really friendly and talkative and you could tell they enjoyed being there. We shared the hot mixed mezzo to start, amazing!! Then had the iskender as a main, so tasty and fresh but a massive portion (took the rest home for lunch the next day!). Baklava was also amazing! Cannot fault the food at all, just wish it was on our doorstep so we could visit all the time 😀 We will defo visit again the next time we are in Chester.

We tried Istanbul BBQ after a visit to Chester Zoo & whilst searching for a Halal Certified place to eat - I didn't find much in term of choice other than fast food outlets so with the limited options we tried this restaurant over the establishment across the road which seemed to have a large number of mixed reviews. As we were only looking for a quick bite we ordered the starters for 2, an additional portion of wings & drinks. The restaurant was busy for take aways and we were the 2nd table that was being used. Service was good & all staff were friendly & welcoming.

Nestled in the historic rows of Chester, Olive Tree Brasserie provides a serene setting with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic city views. On Saturdays, guests can indulge in bottomless feasts featuring a variety of dishes like smashed avocado and halloumi on sourdough, spinach and herb falafel, tomato and basil arancini, and padron peppers paired with lager, Prosecco or specialty cocktails.
Food was lovely and served really quickly. Restaurant atmosphere was great, all the staff friendly and attentive. Upon booking I stated it was our wedding anniversary and we were gifted 2 glasses of prosecco and there was a card for us on the table. A lovely gesture which we weren't expecting. Looking forward to going again.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of vegan food for a Greek restaurant! Even down to the drinks, starters and desserts. Food was delicious, service was excellent, our waiter Donny was great! Will absolutely come back again, might be our new regular spot.

My wife booked here for my birthday, the gentleman who greeted us I think his name was Mike brought us a complimentary glass of prosecco. We ordered the mix platter for two and it was lovely plenty to feed the two of us. Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. We were also brought a free dessert and helped make the end of our day out special. Can't wait to go back.

Had a two course Sunday lunch. Starter of garlic mushrooms was plentiful and tasty. Wife had chicken and I had beef for the main event. Plenty of jous and well cooked veg. Could not fault it. The only thing we marked it down for was atmosphere. I know we had a Sunday lunch but the restaurant did not have a Greek or Mediterranean feel. We will be back on our next visit.

My partner booked for us to come here for my birthday- we had previously visited in 2020 and loved it, so were keen to come back. Katie/Katy and Louis/Louie (sorry didn’t check how to spell) exceeded our expectations with their wonderful service. The food was beautiful, fresh, so affordable (well worth going in the week when there’s a few deals on), and served in a timely manner. The service was really faultless; we had a lovely handwritten birthday card waiting on the table when we arrived, and were so well looked after. Can’t wait to come back. Thanks Katie and Louis for making my birthday so special.

Firstly it’s definitely worth booking to get a table here and I’m glad we did! We had a warm welcome from the staff and wow the menu was amazing. There were lots of gluten free options and I was told all the cooking for gluten free was done separately which is exceptional! I had a lush gluten free toastie and the biggest piece of cheesecake I’ve ever seen! Mostly all their cakes are gluten free as well, apart from the scones Would definitely recommend for gluten free

I just popped in for breakfast. Now, as an American that usually means coffee and muffin/roll/scone (nothing like a British scone). I'm not celiac BUT my gastro AND my endo think I should avoid gluten as much as possible. Sadly, scones are the only baked good that isn't GF at Marmalade. I went with fruit crumble and custard sauce. It was wonderful. They brought my custard on the side (Americans!!!). I was glad, as it had a subtle sweetness with vanilla finish. The crumble itself was the perfect level of sweetness and crisp.

We were lucky to have been bought a wine tasting experience with some accompanying tasting treats, and from the moment we arrived to the second we left we throughly enjoyed it. We had the pleasure of Haley explaining to us the different wine selections and taste bits. Best pancakes about!! My girlfriend and I have been here an unhealthy amount of times, worth it! The staff are friendly, prices decent and atmosphere lovely. The lady, who I assume is the owner, is lovely and welcoming. We usually come here when we fancy pancakes but also had the masala dosa which is amazing! They also have a good selection of drinks. Happy to keep going back, the staff are welcoming, the service efficient. This is a popular place and can get very busy, so it's advisable to book. I've been visiting regularly with my son and his cousins since they were toddlers, so that's getting on for ten years now. There is no need for me to repeat that the pancakes are superb. I would like to highlight the coffee, which is a delicious blend, the latte is something special.

This is such a quirky little hidden treasure to come and eat. The lady who welcomed us was so polite and sweet. Love all the little touches. I had an omelette and a pot of tea. First time visit, as a pancake day treat for the Grandkids. Friendly greeting with an attempt at a 1950s American diner theme. What initially looks like a comprehensive menu soon turns out to be a bit restricted, not much in the way of savoury on offer but plenty of sugar loaded toppings to be had for the kids. As it was pancake day they were very busy but did not skimp on customer service. At no time did we feel rushed to leave the table to ease the queue outside their doors, well done on that 👏 As a treat, I can forgive the price but return visits will be few and far between at over £10 a head for a pancake and drink.

Visited today, didn’t book, would recommend, however we were very quickly accommodated and welcomed . Busy vibe, but attentive and best pancakes you have ever tasted! We came here for breakfast one morning. The staff were lovely and welcome as soon as we walked in. Ask and brought over a highchair without us having to ask. They’ve a dedicated vegan section on the menu which is great! Kids get a free pancake and then you just pay for topping. I went for the banana blue I think it was called which was nice, I also had a smoothie which was good too. My husband really enjoyed his pancake too. We planned to return but unfortunately they were shut that day! Would return and recommend.

The Indian omelette is worth visiting this restaurant for. The interior is a vibe with a blend of Indian and chic colours, pictures and plants. The service is always extremely helpful and you're always greeted with a smile! Would recommend the green coriander chutney with the Indian omelette too, possibly one of my fave things to get here. The sweet breakfasts are also yummy with the ability to change my order easily (lactose allergy but I wanted to try a range of flavours) and the pancakes look great. I've had a range of things off the menu and would certainly take visitors with me when returning.

Beautiful building, genuine slightly wonky stairs & creaky floors, lovely cosy bar & friendly staff. We stayed in room 1, which was spacious & comfortable, with a nice roomy ensuite (large rainfall shower - bliss!) Perfect location for a gig at Storyhouse, but also great for Chester in general, as it's fairly central. While you're there, try their beer (brewed onsite), it's excellent!

The power outlet below the TV was leaking electricity, which caused my entire left side to go numb and tripped the power in the room. A 220V electric shock is strong enough to be fatal. I immediately reported the issue to the front desk when checking out. The staff member was polite and believed my report, but said she had no authority to handle the issue and provided me with her supervisor’s email. Unfortunately, the supervisor’s reply was very disappointing — they denied that there was any problem in the room and refused to acknowledge that it was unsafe for guests. Additionally, the bathroom window in this room faces an alley, and while my wife was showering, a man passing by repeatedly knocked on the window, which was extremely disturbing and unsafe for female guests. In conclusion, this room is not only hazardous, but the management also lacks the proper attitude toward guest safety. I strongly advise against staying here.

Noisy at night and early morning especially when glass waste collection is being carried out! Other than that we loved our stay here. The whole building is so old - built in 1547 - and wonky! So much character!! Loved the spacious bathroom too.

Unbelievable. They ask credit card number, expiration date and CVV over the phone for a reservation. When I refused, they did not accept the reservation. Using booking.com, they saw it was the same person and canceled my reservation. Anyone knows that giving credit card details over the phone is something you should NEVER do. Doesn’t look like a serious and honest hotel

I would like to award zero stars for this but unfortunately the app wouldn’t allow it. Worst nights sleep and definitely not value for money at £157 for the night with a discount ! The bed was a double with zero springs in the frame just plywood resulting in less than 3 hours sleep. We were staying with friends who had the same issue with their bed in a different room and again that was plywood so it was not unique to our room. Added to this the cleanliness if the rooms left a lot to be desired. The bathroom was a decent size but there was no hot water in the shower so had to have a cold wash. We expressed our concerns to the manager in a nice manner but he could not have cared less or been any more dismissive. He said “ sorry about the hot water there’s nothing I can do about that” We told him it was unacceptable and he told us to contact the operations Manager but he couldn’t even be bothered to write the contact email down so we wrote it in an order pad. The staff behind the bar were great but I wouldn’t even put a homeless person in this pub/ hotel.

Bear & Billet is a historic English inn located in Chester, dating back to 1664. The three-story building offers a warm and welcoming space for visitors and their furry friends to enjoy real ales and traditional pub food. Situated inside the historical Chester Walls, it's conveniently close to prime dog walking spots like the meadows and racecourse. Despite its austere Tudor facade, this legendary stop promises an exquisite range of real ale and assorted food offerings.
A Perfect Start to Our Chester Experience This was the first pub we visited in Chester, and it set the tone for a fantastic trip. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we absolutely loved how it looked—charming, cozy, and full of character. The barman was incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome from the start. The overall experience was great, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin our time in Chester. Highly recommend!

Visiting for the first time and despite it being crazy busy ,particularly with the Liverpool game on! All of the lads serving behind the bar were fab. Polite and efficient, really impressed with their service! We are new to the Chester night life but the staff that served me here have been the best I've met so far this weekend!. Would visit again.

What a lovely, historic pub that’s as interesting inside as on the outside. The Bear and Billet has a great selection of craft beers on offer and bar staff that clearly know their beers. The two barmen on during this afternoons visit were super friendly and helpful and brought my wife’s tea to our table on the first floor, to save us waiting. Food was dropped off to tables adjacent to us and looked great, so we’ll be ordering a meal on our next visit.

With a good array of cask ales the art of pouring needs a little direction. Glass cleanliness is the start of a good ale and sparklers should be on imho. Friendly, helpful staff in abundance. Olde worldy establishment with CAMRA discount to members. Right on the river Dee by bridge street makes this an ideal place for a beer, wine, soft drink and food. A place to visit

Popped into here because of friendly dog reviews as I have my dog with me on a weekend stay in Chester. Very welcoming walking through the door, very polite barman did not catch his name. Very very nice food, between the 4 of us we shared the chicken kiev fries and chicken tenders! Would recommend anyone to pop in lovely atmosphere and very welcoming. Feels like a nice friendly local pub

What a lovely pub, so much character and a cosy fire burning. The homemade steak and ale pie was amazing , full of meat and very tasty. Large portions also. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, definitely recommend .

OK. Back in the late 1970's this was one of my top ten pubs of all time. I was horrified when it closed for a few years but reopened maybe 10 or so years later. First pub I ever had IOM brewery Okell's .. and they still sell it. Lovely bar over three floors ... tv's on each. Ic n Flic had food incl very filling corn beef hash for £14. Still well worth finding.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Burger Shed 41. This charming eatery offers an impressive menu featuring not only mouthwatering burgers made from locally sourced ingredients but also scrumptious hot dogs, poutine that locals rave about, and divine chicken wings. The unique offerings include creative options like the Camembert Burger topped with cranberry sauce and rich camembert cheese or the flavorful steak-based creations reminiscent of Steak n Shake's style.
Great first time experience. Fantastic food and great service. Although this place has been established for four years, this was my first visit. I wasn’t disappointed. All the staff, Mark, Liam and Daniel were excellent. Just genuine, down-to-earth guys. I opted for the Pulled pork burger, cheesy fries and a beer (moretti)

The place is really nice and cozy. The atmosphere is pretty cool. It's a good place to spend some time in. The staff are very friendly and the service was really good. We got a burger and a hotdog and drinks. The drinks are really nice and refreshing. Burger was huge and juicy. Really enjoyed the food.

Fun little place with good food. Went on a Wednesday when there is 2-4-1 on the burgers. Great taste. I had the simple cheeseburger but they managed to make it taste better than what you'd expect. The pic shows the Pulled Pork one.

I dined here on the 21/8 and I thought it was great! The food was extremely timely and to an excellent level. The menu is easy to read and covers most bases bases for anyone walking through the door. I had the burnt end brisket balls to start which were great, well cooked and hardly any gristle which brisket is well known for, then I chose the funky chicken burger which I thoroughly enjoyed until I reached the food wall :) but it was the service that stood out for me, really efficient but polite and attentive. I would certainly eat here again. See photos.

Nestled in the vibrant Rows of Chester, Shrub is a delightful vegan restaurant and cocktail bar that truly captures the essence of plant-based dining. With its inviting interiors and a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the bustling streets, it’s an ideal spot to unwind. The menu boasts an array of global flavors, featuring hearty plant-based burgers, flavorful curries, and nourishing bowls that cater to every palate.
Wow wow wow you must go here! From the minute we walked up the stairs, Alex greeted us and made us feel welcome. He allowed us to pick where we wanted to see as it was early in the evening though the other tables soon filled up fast. We asked for recommendations and then picked 8 dishes from the menu (2 mezze and 6 small plates). Every single one was incredible - 10/10 for all but an honourable mention to the artichoke wings and, of course, the frickles. Then we still had dessert which was equally incredible but very light so we weren't being rolled out! The service was perfect, conversational at the right time, and everything was quick but not rushed. We had a wonderful evening and will recommend Shrub to everyone.

We originally popped into Shrub just for a drink, as I’d already heard the name while researching vegan food options in Chester. The atmosphere was lovely, and thanks to Alex – who welcomed us with such great energy, we decided to stay for food. He was fantastic from the very start, made us feel so comfortable, and honestly was a 10/10 for customer service. We ended up ordering a few plates and the Sunday roast, which was absolutely incredible. Everything was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and exceeded our expectations. A huge thank you to Alex for making the whole experience so enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!

Amazing vegan place, me and my friends went for lunch, vegan and non vegans and we were all impressed at the quality of the food and service from the the staff, everyone is really friendly. Really lovely heated seating out on the terrace or indoor area. Absolutely delicious dishes and really creative options available. We had 2/3 plates each and shared everything, we loved it that much that 2 of us went back the next day. The standouts were the muhammara, onion bhajis, lamb fries, frickles, artichoke, potato terrine, tofu was good (would be nice for this to be a fuller portion for the price). Would definitely recommend and will for sure go back again! Thanks

Went for a mid week visit, it's so impressive! Really knowledgeable and friendly staff, quick service and the food is out of this world. All gluten free options are clearly highlighted on the menu, I can't get over how much choice there was! Gluten free beer battered pickles, need I say more! Everything we ordered was delicious, we ordered 3 plates each for 2 people and shared which I think was more than enough!

So we landed on Shrub by accident.. we wanted to head to Brewski over the road but couldn’t get a table so chose shrub, oh my days we are so glad we did!!! This place is sensational! We aren’t veggie/vegan but the small plates are something else. So flavoursome and tasty. We will recommend this place to everyone we know and will DEFINITELY be returning. Staff are super attentive. Millie in particular, our server guided us on best options as this is a whole new dining experience for us! She clearly loves her job and knows her stuff, thanks Millie! Such a gorgeous place, if you’re in Chester you have to visit Shrub! 🫶🏻 xx

Loved it here! This place is a bit special and I can’t wait to return. The food is creative, flavoursome and cooked really well. It’s small plates so it’s recommended to order a few per person, but they do have larger plates which are slightly bigger portions. I went for the pumpkin tortellini and the lemon posset for dessert, both mouthwateringly good. Next time I’d love to try the Sunday Roast. Voted best restaurant in Chester 2024, having visited I can understand why.

We dined at shrub last night, we had a fantastic night. We tried as much of the menu as possible getting 12 of the small plates. As somebody who would usually choose Vegan options I was blown away at the taste and ingenuity of the food on offer here, literally everything tastes amazing. I was encouraged by friends who have been before to try the Celeriac steak and I was not disappointed. I couldn't recommend it more highly, it was the standout dish by a mile. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and we can't wait to go back.

We both loved it here. We're not vegans or even vegetarians but if we could cook as well as this, we'd eat a lot less meat! We ordered 5 small plates and that was plenty between the two of us. Everything was delicious but a special shout-out to the onion bhajis. There was magic happening there! Great service too and a wonderful atmosphere made this a truly memorable meal.

This independent coffee shop offers a vegan menu featuring various brunch dishes such as vegan breakfast, breakfast bap, and Shakshuka.
I was on city break in Chester for two days. I found this place on Instagram few days before my visit. The dessert was tasty and very nice decorated. The prices are reasonable. I liked the plants hanging from celling. The young girl who was our waiter was nice but very sad and looked miserable. I think it could be there much better atmosphere if she tries a little bit smile taking the orders. It doesn't cost a lot. It's not a complain, definitely not. Just my own impression.

Really lovely spot in Chester. We were going up for a girls trip and stopped for some Brunch. The presentation is lovely and the Welsh rarebit was exactly what I expecting! I would have loved it even more if the potions were a bit bigger as I found myself ordering some extra toast on the side to keep me full.
Diya G — Google review
The vibe was amazing – very cozy and welcoming, which made for a lovely atmosphere. The food was nicely presented and great for photos or social media. Taste-wise, it was okay, quite similar to what you’d expect from a typical brunch place. The staff were generally friendly, which we appreciated. However, when we paid our bill (around £31–32) with £40, one of the staff asked, “Do you want change?” That made my husband and me feel a bit uncomfortable. We usually leave a tip without being asked, but in this case, the way it was handled felt a little awkward, so we decided not to tip. Overall, it was a decent visit. Beautiful setting and warm vibes, but there’s a bit of room for improvement with the food and service approach.

Decided to go to Chester for breakfast on our way home from a summer party and found The Flower Cup - lovely little place. Breakfast was mighty - think I had half a loaf, with whole avacodo and a side of smoked salmon. Absolutely delicious and rolled out - eggs Royal was pretty special too!

Lovely little café with lots of greenery and a relaxed vibe. I had the Hot Honey Halloumi French Toast (£12), which was really good—though they swapped pomegranate for blueberries, which changed the flavour slightly. My partner had the Maple Syrup French Toast (£10.30) with an added poached egg (£2.50) and enjoyed it. We didn’t wait long, and service was good albeit a little miserable from our server, she didn't seem interested in being there at all. A nice spot for brunch in Chester.

he atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with warm lighting and comfortable seating that made it perfect for both relaxing and catching up with friends. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we felt welcomed from the moment we walked in. The menu offered a great variety of options, from freshly brewed coffee to delicious pastries and hearty brunch dishes. I tried their signature avocado toast and a latte, both of which were absolutely delicious—fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors. The coffee was rich and aromatic, clearly made with high-quality beans. The prices were reasonable for the quality, and the service was quick without feeling rushed. The only minor suggestion would be to add a few more vegan options to the menu.

Stile Napoletano is a cozy restaurant located in Chester, known for its authentic Neapolitan-style pizza and delectable desserts. The chef, Giacomo Guido, originally from the Bay of Naples, brings his expertise to create mouthwatering pizzas using a blend of carefully selected flours and a 48-hour dough rising process for a light and easily digestible crust.
This place is such a gem! It's pretty small so would recommend booking. The food is amazing, we had margarita pizza and the calzone special and both were delicious, in fact my husband and I both agreed we enjoyed them more than the pizza we had in Italy! And we shared the Nutella and pistachio dessert which was so so good! I think the drink selection could be more exciting. Pear juice and peach juice aren't really very thirst quenching and sometimes it's nice to have something other than your usual soft drinks. There is plenty of choice for wine drinkers though (of which me or my husband aren't). Staff were lovely, gave us a warm welcome and service with a smile apart from one older lady who was quite abrupt and very matter of fact when serving and didn't come across as much of a people person. Who knows what kind of day she may of already had, but I think it's good to point out these things because your demeanor as a server, has an impact on your customers experience. We will most definitely return to this place when we next visit Chester again, the food is just too good!

Myself and my husband visited for our wedding anniversary. We were blown away. The food was to die for. We were wished a happy anniversary by the team and left a message on our table. We were made to feel really special. So reaonsbaly priced. For two starters, two pizzas and four cans of drink we paid £55. So incredibly cheap and such incredible value!!!! The only thing that was a slight inconvenience was how warm the place was. The style was open kitchen in the dining area with no air con and only a fan blowing warm air around the room. It was well worth suffering for! And we did visit mid June in the middle of a heat wave! Just something to be mindful of.

Myself and my partner went for food last night, it was absolutely unreal food and the service was spot on, all of the waiters/waitresses were so attentive and the atmosphere was really nice. Also really reasonable prices, two starters 2 pizzas, 3 glasses of large wine and 2 diet cokes was mid £60s. Highly highly recommend! We booked a table in advance, I’m not sure if they do walk ins as the restaurant was the only full place in Chester when we had a walk around before the reservation

We came to Chester for the day and googled where was good to eat dinner. Up popped “the UKs third best pizza restaurant” (and the only one outside of London) and it was a no brainer. We had the Salsiccia e Friarielle and the Bufala. They were both superb. Next time I’m trying the ragu pizza. We then had the ricotta e pera which was a nice light (ish!) ending to the meal. Service was fantastic, and it was a scorching hot day so we enjoyed our meal outside the restaurant.

Some of the best pizza I've had the pleasure of eating out. Menu is limited, but what they do they do it VERY well. Some nice touches by stocking regional beers and wine from Italy as well and the service was attentive without being over baring. We'll be back!

Great, authentic Neapolitan pizza - for an immigrant like me, it’s a bit of home away from home We had creative pizzas (Ischia, Sud) and the kids one for my son Everything was fantastic. Lovely friendly service and central location. Small venue so must be booked well in advance

Never been so disappointed, having read the reviews… We have just returned from Italy, having spent 6 weeks out there, comparing local Pizzas… so I’ve no wish to comment on Pizzas here! But, it is the wine list that really urked me! Looking at the Reds, it amounts to a choice of 3 straight Reds & then stupid money. The waitress kindky offered us a tasting of the House wine & the next one up, neither got past the taste buds. So like everyone else we had a beer!

Brilliant place, booked for a birthday bottomless brunch the festive menu in the day time at 1.30pm- venue is really busy at this time, it is fully booked and only had choice of one booth left which we had no choice to take, would of loved to sit where the pretty photogenic parts are but its not the end of the world for us. Food is delicious and came quite quickly. The servers were amazing with restocking our cocktails, half way through our brunch we did have to wait but it got so busy it couldn't be helped. The cocktails themselves were amazing, plenty of it and dressed nicely. As it’s a set drinks menu i only really tried 3 out of the 6 cocktails as they weren't to my taste. I wasn't a fan of the passion fruit bellini. We also ordered a Shot Tree which was an extra cost but was really cute. The decor is pink and girly and the music is mostly girly songs. As part of the bottomless brunch you have a time limit of 1.45minutes there. Once this time has come to the end i thought we could have stayed but just paid for the rest of the drinks we ordered afterwards but it wasn't the case. The server was lovely i didn't catch the name, and politely said that we need to leave as our bottomless brunch had ended.

My go to place in Chester for a gorgeous breakfast in such pretty surroundings, especially if you like pink! It’s spotlessly clean and has such a welcoming atmosphere. I’ve been several times now and can highly recommend the breakfast menu. Everything is delicious and very well presented and the service is great, we met the owner and he was so friendly and accommodating. All the little finishing touches I love, such as the pink mayonnaise! They even do a cocktail happy hour in the evening, from 5 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Thursday, where you can get two cocktails for, I think, £11.95. There is a amazing selection of drinks to choose from, all well presented in beautiful glasses. When we paid the the bill we got a voucher for £5 off our next breakfast visit, which was a nice surprise. We will definitely be returning again on our next trip to Chester.

Really disappointed by my experience here last night. Asked the manager for a refund as I did pay a deposit of £20 for the table to be told no. Will never go back and would not recommend. Nowhere on my booking did it state there would be a dj playing from the late afternoon meaning the whole ‘restaurant’ had turned into a dance floor for our 6.30pm reservation. Palm is a cocktail bar/nightclub not a restaurant. Please do not book for an evening meal on the weekend as you’ll be sharing your tapas with drunk people grinding on you while you eat.

For a cocktail bar the food here is amazing! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and loved the music 🎶 I had the 3 little dishes for £15 on a Tuesday, and all three were really tasty and they did the egg for me just how I asked 😊. My partner had a steak which he was very impressed by, would come again if we are in the area again 💕

Horrific stay well clear! 1 hour to make brunch without any word from the waiters. It turns up with burnt slices of hovis instead of sourdough, burger bun tops instead of muffins, Heinz baked beans instead of chakalaka beans, and co-op guacamole instead of smashed avocado… the audacity of the waiters to plonk that down without any mention in the hope we won’t notice. Pathetic!

Chester Market, awarded the best small indoor market at the Great British Market Awards 2020, offers a diverse range of unique and traditional stalls not commonly found on the high street. The market also features a central dining area perfect for people-watching and an array of delicious food options. Vinological, an independent wine merchant and bar within the market, provides high-quality wines by the glass or bottle.
We walked in not expecting too much as we have been to many food markets in the UK (and Europe) but it is a really beautiful space. Lots of options to choose from and a lovely family friendly atmosphere (5pm on a Tuesday). We didn't try any food this time but bought two drinks from the main bar and they were great.

I left Chester for a job for almost 1.5 years and I have always missed this place, their environment and food has never let me down. Highly recommend for a visit!

It's actually a nice vibrant area, but unfortunately only a handful a market stalls. The large area inside consists of eating places, I personally found it extremely crowded and load with the noise making hard to have a conversation. Not a lot can very done to address this as its working as its busy. But personally just a bit to loud for me.

Fantastic space in Chester. Frequent live music and performances on the stage in front of plenty of seating. Huge variety of food and drink available and all that we tried was very nice. Good to be able to choose different cuisines at the same time and mix and match! We went back three times over the weekend as it was such a nice atmosphere! 😁😁😁

A brilliant market. Clean and vibrant. Plenty of places to eat. Also many different market stalls to buy a gift or something you want for yourself. Shall definitely be visiting again. Purchased some oatmeal dog shampoo for my Boston Terrier Vincent. Gave him a shower with this product. I'd like to thank the lady who sold me it... Thank you... 👍 It got rid of his dandruff....👍👍

We were visiting Chester and this was recommended to us. Have to say, it's a fantastic set up!! A lot of places could learn a thing or two. We were there on Friday night. There was a guy playing and singing. He was brilliant. The place has so many good places to eat and drink. Very reasonably priced! Very dog friendly too!
Ciaran 1 — Google review
You can enjoy lots of different types of food! Everything other people were eating looked really tasty. There are family box seats and high chairs for babies, so it was the perfect place for us to have lunch with our two-year-old twins!

Really lovely food hall! Great vibe! Pleasant selection of restaurants. It also has a beautiful flower shop by the entrance and a nice, simple Asian supermarket. There’s a cute little vintage shop and Chester Zoo gift shop too!

The Stables Bar & Grill Restaurant, located within the Crowne Plaza hotel, offers a delightful dining experience with its exceptional cuisine and attentive staff. The head chef, John, goes above and beyond to meet guests' needs, even arranging surprises like cakes. The restaurant's employees are kind, friendly, and always ready to cater to any request. With its beautiful setting and reasonable prices, this bar restaurant is highly recommended for those seeking great food and excellent service.
It was the best afternoon tea! Everything was delicious and the americano was also very good! The chicken burger was also delicious! Afternoon tea was £19.95. You have to make a reservations in advance by phone.

Great bar restaurant in a beautiful setting inside the Crowne Plaza hotel. Very friendly and helpful service. Price are reasonable and you get 25% off the bill if you have a blue light card. Food isn't the best but they are not bad either, so would definitely recommend.

Fabulous food with attentive service and a lovely atmosphere

I’m not sure if this review fairly reflects the food but this were my experience, I picked the bbq wings and pepperoni pizza, food came out quickly and servers very attentive. Unfortunately the wings and pizza were little more than what you’d expect frozen from a supermarket. My colleagues had lamb shank and a curry which looked and apparently tasted hugely better. Beware also the drinks will drain your wallet long before giving the desired effect.

Last night me and my colleagues went to the bar in the Plaza for some drinks after attending Chester Races yesterday, all i have to say is WOW, the two behind the bar were very good! they kept up with our large order by having the girl take the order while the guy started making them thank you both for great service, we all really enjoyed ourselves
Burt P — Google review
Had an amazing meal (the lamb shank was the best ever). Amazing food and the service was second to none. Thank you Raffa. I will recommend and return.

Apart from the amazing food, nothing was too much for the staff to do for us. John the head chef went above and beyond to cater for our needs, including arranging a surprise cake for our guests. The staff in the restaurant were kind, friendly and again catered to our every need. I would recommend the stables bar and grill to anyone wanting great food and excellent service.

Great location, lovely reception and bar area. Bathroom was dated mould around the bath and tiles. Air conditioning extremely loud through the night from room 323. Air con below the window sounded like a helicopter taking off. Had a poor night's sleep. If I we're to stay again I would have to insist on a better room. Disappointed this time round

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Chester, Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel is a stunning 17th-century establishment that perfectly blends historic charm with modern luxury. Guests can enjoy elegantly decorated rooms equipped with contemporary amenities and complimentary Wi-Fi, ensuring a delightful stay. The hotel features inviting spaces like a piano lounge and a chic bar/restaurant where visitors can indulge in an exquisite afternoon tea experience.
Contrary to some negative reviews on here and being an avid traveller. Reception was perfect, room was nice, you could be picky on some imperfections cosmetically but the room itself was nice. Breakfast was good again Contrary to some reviews. Like four in a bed would I stay here again 💯.

⸻ I have never stayed in a worse hotel. It was extremely dirty and smelled musty. The service was worse than what you’d expect at a train station. The breakfast was terrible — there was barely any choice, and the next day there was practically nothing left; everything was empty, and we had to wait a very long time (in fact, we never got any food, so we ended up eating elsewhere). It was a complete waste of money. This place shouldn’t be called a hotel — at best, it qualifies as a hostel. The rooms were filthy, with someone else’s hair, thick dust that clearly hadn’t been cleaned in weeks, windows that probably hadn’t been washed in years, and cobwebs everywhere — absolutely disgusting. I’ve never seen anything like it, and my husband and I travel a lot. The only positive thing I can mention is the location — it was conveniently close to everything. Other than that, there was nothing good about our stay. To make matters worse, when we checked in, we were given a room that was already occupied. There was no apology, no concern from the staff, which made me feel unsafe and very uncomfortable throughout our stay. I absolutely do not recommend this place.
Malgorzata D — Google review
The hotel is shabby and tired. The room itself was fine, but the bathroom is in need of attention. The only staff we saw were 3 young people, all under 20 I'd say. They did a good job, but it didn't really instill much confidence. Breakfast was very average. Massively over priced for what we got.
Santiago P — Google review
Would definitely not recommend this hotel!! The only good thing was it being located in the city centre. We were gifted a £100 voucher by a relation by way of an Anniversary present. We booked in a double standard room which we later found out was nothing like the room we were allocated. Unfortunately, I omitted to take photos of the room and bathroom. The room was tiny. The TV crackled when in use which was annoying. Shower curtain had black mold spots on it. Room and bathroom need updating as a matter of urgency. Carpets need a good clean or renewing asap! I did take this up with the voucher company who, in turn took it up with the hotel. The hotels response was that they were keeping the £100 even though the double standard rooms were approx £60 at the time of our booking. On looking in their website the room we had been allocated wasn’t even pictured on there. The dearest room they had was the suite priced at £84! So the £100 voucher covered this room but we wasn’t offered it. They didn’t have any milk for breakfast cereal or any yogurts. They staff apologised and said they hadn’t had a delivery- this was at approximately 8.30am! Bearing in mind they are based in the city centre and next door was a M&S no one thought to pop out and buy some milk and yogurts. Wouldn’t ever book this hotel again.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Surprised that a hotel such as this does not serve meals, only breakfast. From an 8 night stay, there was never black pudding for breakfast as stated on the menu, only a bowl of fresh fruit on the first Sunday and a plate of sliced watermelon on the Friday. Requesting stronger coffee every day was never a problem to the staff. Our room was fine but the bathroom sink had a few cracks in it. The socket in the wardrobe did not work which is a shame as it would have been perfect for the fan as it was so hot, we did plug the fan in but it was quite distant from the bed - an extension would have been ideal. The public toilets beside the reception would benefit from having the bowls scrubbed vigorously, they were quite stained. Didn’t feel it was quite the standard as our previous visit which was pre-covid. Overall though, we did have a lovely stay, thank you.

Cleanliness was excellent, very spacious room too. Perfect location. Definitely will visit again to try the breakfast. Only issue we had was the air conditioner which we had trouble putting on. Highly recommended
Caroline N — Google review
Okay, it’s very reasonably priced. And it’s got a nice atmosphere, in the centre of town, high ceilings, traditional, my room was spacious. But it’s a basic, old hotel, probably approaching the end of a revamp cycle and really needs a bit of a TLC. I am really put off by worn (moth-eaten?) carpet. Other stuff was a bit ropey. Nonfunctional windows. Non draining shower drain. But it was clean, comfy, central, cosy, cost effective…..
Jon B — Google review
Our room was quite small but functional none the less. Breakfast and service were excellent and the location is one of the best in Chester. Visited a number of times in recent years and we were able to secure a decent price for a midweek break which was a pleasant surprise given the time of year.
