Nestled in central Vietnam, Huế is a city steeped in history and culture, once serving as the capital during the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. The Hue Historic Citadel, also known as the Imperial City of Hue, is a significant attraction in Vietnam and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It served as the royal palace for the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years. The walled fortress spans 10 kilometers with impressive fortifications and features like the Imperial Enclosure and Forbidden Purple City. Visitors can explore attractions such as the ceremonial Thai Hoa Palace and Ngo Mon Gate within this historical complex.
The Imperial City (Hoàng thành), located inside the walled city of Huế, was the former royal capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty This is recognized by UNESCO as the world cultural heritage for over 30 years. I have experience many vicissitudes of history of Vietnam over centuries from many dynasties until Vietnam became a republic. The imperial city is still a long lasting and remain one of the most cherished values. Visitors will be able to learn about the 13 Nguyen dynasty kings who ruled Vietnam from 18th century to 1945. The many palace buildings that spread across the big compound was nice and grand and somehow you will feel that history has come alive from walking around. Note that the traveller could be spending half a day for walking tour.
Thanh T — Google review
Was really nice to be able to walk the walls of the citadel and the information panels along the way added all the relevant info. You could get an idea of how important the defences were in times gone by. Shame you couldn't get to upper levels in the towers. Take time to have a walk if you're in the area.
Robert S — Google review
Go between June and August for better weather. Still, such a great day trip from Da Nang with its rich history and passionate restoration work. You will see some Vietnamese locals dressed up in traditional wear taking photos, making the experience even more surreal.
Czarina V — Google review
Beautiful location and truly special from a historic standpoint. Well worth a visit. Stunning location steeped in history for the emperor and family with great photos and art. A lovely location surrounded by moats and water but leaving a relaxed sense as you walk through the halls and grounds. Truly stunning and well worth visiting.
Andrew D — Google review
Must visit. If you’re visiting Hue, plan to visit Citadel along with the tombs. Do a 2 days tour and don’t rush. Guided tours will offer more. Excellent capital city. Rich history and great architecture. You’ll be satisfied with the experience.
Ragavendra B — Google review
Hue Imperial City was built in 1804 under King Gia Long and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993. I love walking around the ancient palace and admire the beauty at every corner. Hundred years ago, it used to a enormous and glorious palace. Sadly, many constructions are damaged, though they are being restored, could not bring back the original spirit of the place. The atmosphere was quite sad in a rainy day.
Han N — Google review
Come to the palace for a photo op, especially in traditional costumes. It's not a particularly interesting place for a casual tour, but it's beautiful in its details. If you're visiting on a sunny day, be sure to bring an umbrella, as there's very little shade.
TatyanKA G — Google review
Overall, it was a solid experience, though I expected a bit more. The complex is huge, but the overall layout could be better organized. I didn’t take the audio guide because I don’t like using headphones — probably a mistake. The descriptions of the monuments were quite minimal and not very engaging. I also chose a bad day to visit since it was extremely hot.

Bodies of Water
Hue, a city with a rich history and royal heritage, offers visitors an array of attractions to explore. One of the highlights is the Perfume River, which flows through the heart of the city. Spanning approximately 80 kilometers, this river derives its name from the fragrant flowers that fall into it from upstream orchards.
Peaceful place and the boat ride is so calm and memorable. You can even steer the boat for an experience to remember. The place is so serene and wonderful

If you're taking a Grab, it seems like the drop-off point is set too far. So you can just stop near the new bridge, which will open on March 26, 2025. On the map, Grab directs you all the way to the end, which is a very quiet area with only two or three tofu stalls, where vendors aggressively offer you tofu. A bowl of tofu is only 10k VND, and it's actually quite good—just like a typical local experience. So you should give it a try!
Felicia H — Google review
Took a ~25 minutes boat ride for VND150K per pax. Nothing amazing, views were mehhh. Could be skipped.
ZH L — Google review
The Perfume River runs gracefully through Hue, adding charm to the city with its calm flow and romantic scenery. A boat ride at sunset is unforgettable, with the golden light reflecting on the water. I enjoyed every moment and will highly recommend my friends to experience this magical river.

Great River and site to visit in Hue. We took a night boat to listen to the palace music show. It was great and price is not expensive. Highly recommend!
Food 8 — Google review
It’s really nice for a journey along the water. The people selling boat rides WILL rip you off. A 200k ride for an hour quickly became 200k per person. Then our 1 hour ride was over in 15 minutes. Look it’s not expensive, I just didn’t appreciate being ripped off.

A peaceful place to admire the amazing skyline of Hue. It is ideal for a stroll along the riverbank and the park nearby. It was pity that we couldn't enjoy Hue folk song performances due to bad weather.

An amazing river at Hue This is the best nice river flow through the a city in Viet Nam. Its name "Sông Hương" meaning Perfume river. Once upon a time, the Nguyen empire choose this city because the river and the sight so harmony with nature. If you come to Hue. Take a dragon boat cruise along the river. Visit Thien Mu pagoda and tomb of the king. The boats and the river gives you an insight into the fisher families and Hue culture. Have a nice trip.

The National Library of the Nguyen Dynasty, located in a serene area away from the tourist hubbub, served as the administrative center during the reign of the Nguyen emperors. While access to the interior may be limited, its well-preserved and majestic architecture offers a glimpse into this historical site. Adjacent to Tinh Tam Lake, visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll. The library's unique location in the middle of a pond was designed to safeguard valuable documents from fire.
Majestic & well preserved. Lesser known so not too touristy. Nearby is the Tinh Tam Lake (peace of mind lake) that makes for a nice stroll. FYI It’s open from 7am-5pm from Monday - Thursday & doesn’t open for public holiday
Hoang P — Google review
This is considered the 'server' of Nguyen Dynasty's administration. The building locates in a quiet and away from touristic area. unfortunately we couldn't enter to visit the rooms and antiques. We could only visit the architecture outside. Nice view to the lake.
Thiên-Bảo L — Google review
Went on a rainy day. This is a place where the Nguyen stored documents in the past. Built in the middle of the pond to prevent fire (said an employee there.)
Nhat H — Google review
Hidden gems of the old Capital. A heaven for social science researcher. If you are interested in Nguyen Dynasty's document like Châu Bản triều Nguyễn (Royal Records of Nguyễn Dynasty), Địa bạ triều Nguyễn (Records of Address in Nguyễn Dynasty) or simply just want a nice quite place to settle down for a moment then this is definitely the place for you. It's basically a small library that has been existing since the Nguyen Dynasty. The staff does know basic conversation English but if you are looking for something specific then you better have your translator devices ready. At least they are pretty easy going and friendly. No tickets are needed, open in office hours. Although you should check their website in advance, in case they close for maintenance.

An Dinh Palace, situated along the picturesque An Cuu Canal, served as the royal residence for Vietnam's last kings. Originally built as a private home for King Khai Dinh, it later became the dwelling place of Emperor Bao Dai and his family from 1945 to 1955. After undergoing meticulous restoration work adhering to UNESCO standards, this early 1900s palace now welcomes visitors eager to explore its period rooms and admire its impressive art collection.
An Dinh Palace, a historical site built by Emperor Khải Định in Hue from 1917 to 1919, showcases remarkably modern architecture for its time. It's a great spot for young people to visit, take photos, and explore, especially on sunny afternoons. The entrance fee is 50,000 VND per person. Let's work together to preserve this valuable heritage.

lovely palace! It it a masterpiece of Indochinese architecture presenting as the beauty of time. Hue vibrant over its rich history.
Nga T — Google review
An Định Palace has stunning architecture and beautiful painted ceilings. However, when I went, there were many Vietnamese girls dressed in silk dresses taking photos everywhere. They took up a lot of space, making it hard to move around freely. It’s still worth a visit for the architecture and photos, but be prepared for crowds.
Arabelle B — Google review
Beautiful old french style house of King Khai Dinh’s family, lots of people come here to take beautiful pictures.
Linh D — Google review
This palace is stunning and very well-maintained. The tourist guiding could use a lot of work, though. There’s a real lack of signage or explanations, even for basic stuff, and they could offer so much more to enhance the experience.
Eddie L — Google review
Selfie paradise. Off the tourist path however you need to dodge all the original photos happening here. The building still needs quite a bit of restoration. Part of the building was not available to the public
Ana K — Google review
An Dinh Palace is a stunning architectural masterpiece located in Hue, Vietnam, that stands as a remarkable testament to the final years of the Nguyen Dynasty. It is a must-see for visitors interested in a unique blend of Eastern and Western design, as well as the personal history of Vietnam's last two emperors
Tâm M — Google review
A hidden gem. Yes they are in the process of restoration and yet to be able to walk around the house and gardens is worth while. It's only 100k for a couple but well worth it. Not really on the main tourist trail but time permitting with a visit.

The "Hue Ao Dai Show" is a vibrant celebration of Vietnam's rich cultural heritage, particularly focusing on the iconic Ao Dai garment. This captivating performance not only highlights the elegance and beauty of the Ao Dai but also immerses visitors in traditional royal court artistry, lively folk dances, and thrilling martial arts displays. Attendees are treated to a visual feast as top Vietnamese fashion designers showcase their innovative takes on this classic attire using luxurious silk and elements of Hue’s folk art.
Ao Dai show was exclusive for me as I loved the costumes. The lotus dance and so many different form with the clinking cups and somethings, such an awesome show. The quality of performance is 5 stars, I wish they could work a bit more on the theater ambience which is quite basic. They serve you pop corn and some fruit with a beer or a cold drink that is included in the ticket. Sitting arrangement is cozy with a table in the front. They also engage with you while performing like, serving some drink in a traditional cups or coming down the stage to teach you one of their cup techniques. The best is when you get a free souvenir and the kids walk the ramp. All the performers are very professional, good looking and serious about what they do there. Fun part in the end you can choose your artist to talk to or take a picture. I say a must do for 300.000 dong totally worth. Hope you enjoy the pics and videos.
PAROOL B — Google review
Definitely 5 star experience. Don't miss this show. Beautiful, colorful costumes and storytelling. The models are real pros, the girls are beautiful and the guys handsome. They do a fantastic job representing the Vietnamese people. Where else can you get snacks, drinks, an interesting show and a souvenir for 300000 dong? We requested special consideration as we have some access issues and were given VIP treatment. They asked where I was from and at the end of the show a girl came out wearing an Ao Dai with the flag of my country! Then they made sure I got a picture with her afterwards. An extremely enjoyable evening!

Be careful, it is really loud! Drinks are free and there is popcorn and mango. There is also a small figure as a souvenir. At the end, photos can be taken with the artists. Admission per person was 300k. Children under 1.30m are free. (Original) Tolle Show, interessante und wunderschöne ao Dais. (Translated by Google) Pleasant show with an alternation of traditional and contemporary costumes given by excellent dancers. The stage moves forward in the room, which allows you to be “immersed” in the show. You still have to be placed in the first ten rows to benefit from it. In front of your seats, a narrow table where rice wine and appetizers will be served. You will probably receive a small embroidered pouch. A little boy and a little girl will pass through the ranks, I understood a little late that it was customary to give them some coins. For us, Westerners, this is surprising and a little annoying.

Thien Mu Pagoda, a renowned 7-story Buddhist temple constructed in 1601, is a prominent landmark in Hue city. Nestled along the Perfume River and surrounded by landscaped grounds, this ancient pagoda holds great spiritual significance and boasts an impressive architectural design. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich historical narratives and explore the various structures within the pagoda.
Beautiful pagoda right by the perfume river. Visited one late afternoon in August and it was very busy with tourists on tours. But the grounds are very peaceful if you keep walking back. Some monks were even playing badminton with public.
Alex M — Google review
A beautiful and unique place, the pagoda sits on a hill, peaceful and serene, right next to the picturesque Perfume River. There are tasty local foods and great seating spots by the river. Nearby you can enjoy kayaking, swimming in the river, and listening to the famous Hue folk songs. Inside the pagoda, many relics and valuable information about the Nguyen Dynasty (Vietnam’s last feudal dynasty) are preserved. The pagoda also houses a great bell recognized as a national treasure.

A small complex comprised of the pagoda and a temple above stone steps. The pagoda faces the perfume river, which used to be perfumed by flowers flowing down from the vicinity. The pagoda is not open for entry, but you can still admire the piece of preserved history. The temple in the back is open for visitors, but please show respect and follow the rules in terms of clothing and decorum.

We visited Thiên Mụ Pagoda as part of our shore excursion from the cruise ship, and it ended up being one of the nicest stops on the tour. The pagoda sits on a hill overlooking the Perfume River, and the views alone make the visit worthwhile. The grounds are peaceful, clean, and beautifully maintained, with plenty of space to walk around and take photos. The architecture is elegant and iconic, especially the seven-story tower at the entrance. Inside the complex, the gardens, pathways, and temple buildings create a calm and serene atmosphere that feels less crowded than other major attractions. Our guide shared the history and significance of the pagoda, which added depth to the experience. Even without a guide, the cultural and spiritual presence of the site comes through clearly. Overall, Thiên Mụ Pagoda is a beautiful and relaxing place to visit in Huế. It is easy to explore, offers great river views, and is an excellent stop on any cruise tour or day trip.
Travis K — Google review
Lovely pagoda overlooking the river. Very nice and tranquil and free to walk in/around. The grounds are much larger than it looks and in the back is a courtyard full of large bonsais. In the very back is a miniature pagoda with its own courtyard

A quaint tourist spot. It is serene, sleepy and yet charming. This spot is especially enticing when there are not a lot of tourists around and you are left on your own. The history of this spot is already covered on other sites, so I am not going over it.

the pagoda was built during Nguyen Dynasty in the early 17th century, regarded as the most well-known pagoda in Hue. The traditional architecture style looks simple but solemn and peaceful. A bit noisy with many tourists in the morning, will be more quiet in the late afternoon or sunset time.

It offers a glimpse into the daily life of locals and showcases traditional Vietnamese market features like sampan landings and bustling bazaars. Visitors can indulge in iconic Hue dishes such as beef noodle soup and mussel rice while exploring souvenir items, bronze goods, and local delicacies like sesame sweetmeats.
Remember to bargain. Lots of things sold here. All categories of goods under the same roof. After shopping around, one can sit down to try the local Vietnamese food and refreshments

This is an amazing market, seems everything is here, quite big! Upstairs are clothing, bags and silks. We don’t have a very good experience up there, they were very pushy! A lady meet us on the stairs asking us to have a look at her clothing, told her we’re not looking anything in particular just having a look around. But she won’t have it, they will put anything you might be interested in your face! She was getting rude when I wasn’t buying. Price start really high! Another woman won’t let you passed by until they shoved anything they’re selling on your face! They repeat what you saying in a rude way! Downstairs all food, plenty of dry fruits, nuts, anything you can think of and in all different sections. Quite pleasant to look around here because they won’t bother you that much unless you ask! Helpful to have google for translation, most of sellers won’t understand English. Great experience.
LALAAG A — Google review
A buzzing, vibrant market located just a short walk from Trường Tiền Bridge and right by the Perfume River. If you’re looking to experience the real hustle and bustle of Huế, this is the spot to hit especially towards the last for hours before closing. Inside, you’ll find everything from fresh fruit and local snacks to handmade hats, clothing, shoes, and souvenirs. The variety is impressive, and the atmosphere is very local, energetic and noisy. It can get pretty crowded and intense, especially in the late afternoon. This is the perfect place to grab local specialties or last-minute gifts. The market closes around 7:00 PM, so it’s best to visit in the morning or late afternoon. It’s a must-see spot in Huế.

Authentic local market, we went on a Monday morning, under 1% tourists. There an upstairs which Sells clothing and material which can be access from stairs in the middle. A good place to practice your bargaining skills and try some local cuisine. The market has sections: kitchen ceramics, baskets weaving, shoes, nuts and grains, fresh flowers, food incense etc.

Great market and street market outside in the week at least when we visited. Friendly owners help guide you through just about every food type and fruit. This is a special market where you can buy your fruit and veggies and tea and then sit and have some fresh food. Buy a bag for the family some shoes and then some jewelry for the wife or girlfriend followed by desert. Where else can you do that in a market.
Andrew D — Google review
Big market that sells everything from great looking fresh fruits and vegetables, traditional snacks, pickles, dried teas, kitchenware, Vietnamese hats to flip lops, high heels, clothing, fresh Sambal/chili sauces, stalls selling freshly made cooked food with seats in front, and even gold stores!

Dong Ba Market is not just a place for trading; it's also a popular destination for tourists eager to explore local cuisine, products, and the unique cultural essence of Hue. It's best to visit in the morning or late afternoon, especially during the summer. The market can get quite hot around midday. When shopping, always ask for the price first. If you're interested, you can bargain down the price, often aiming for one-third or even one-quarter of the initial asking price. Early Days (Quy Gia Thi): The market's origins trace back to the Nguyen Dynasty, initially known as Quy Gia Thi (Market of the Returnees), located outside the Chanh Dong Gate (now Dong Ba Gate). This name commemorated the return of the Nguyen forces after a period of turmoil. Destruction and Reconstruction: In the summer of 1885, when the Hue imperial capital fell, Quy Gia Market was burned down by French colonialists. In 1887, King Dong Khanh ordered its reconstruction and renamed it Dong Ba Market. Relocation and Growth: In 1899, King Thanh Thai moved the market to its current location, close to the Perfume River, between Gia Hoi Bridge and Truong Tien Bridge. Since then, Dong Ba Market has undergone several renovations and developments, becoming a bustling commercial center deeply intertwined with the daily life and culture of the ancient capital's people.

Meridian Gate, also known as the South Gate, serves as the main entrance to the Imperial City and was constructed in 1833 by Emperor Minh Mang. The gate features a pavilion on its upper level where ceremonies and troop movements were observed. It consists of five entrances, each designated for individuals of different status.
Grand entrance into the Imperial City. The upper level has great views and wonderful historical relics. Definitely worth the easy climb from the interior side of the gate.

My first visit after 2009. it’s a nice place, many houses are rebuild, a good mix of old and new. The entrance is not the exit! WARNING: be careful at the ticket counter. Only cash no card, the lady try to keep all my money, no change.
Knackwurst0815 — Google review
The main entrance to the Imperial City is the Ngo Mon Gate, which faces the Flag Tower. The central path with its yellow doors and the bridge over the lotus pond was just for the emperor. Everyone else had to use the gates on the sides and walk around the pond. On top of the gate, there's the Ngu Phung Pavilion; you can't miss the huge drum and bell up there. It's cool that the gate's name and general look are the same as the first gate of the Forbidden City in Beijing. This is also where the emperor would appear for big events, especially to announce the lunar calendar. And get this: the Nguyen dynasty actually ended right here on August 30, 1945, when Emperor Bao Dai gave up his power.

The Meridian Gate is an impressive and majestic entrance to the Imperial City of Hue. Its grand architecture, intricate details, and historical significance make it a must-visit. Standing before it, you can truly feel the legacy of the Nguyen Dynasty. It’s a perfect starting point to explore the rich heritage of the citadel. Nam Giao Esplanade is a significant historical site in the outlying area of Hue, Vietnam. It served as a place where the emperor would make sacrifices and is aligned with the citadel gate. Although it may be simple, it holds great historical importance and is worth visiting for history enthusiasts. The esplanade offers a quiet atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to explore on a Sunday afternoon. It's recommended to experience the ritual when visiting Hue to gain insight into its cultural significance.
This is an important historical landmark where the emperor would offer sacrifices. It is directly in line with the citadel gate but I have never heard it mentioned. It’s a simple place but if you enjoy history, definitely worth visiting. Very quiet on a Sunday afternoon.

The Nam Giao Esplanade, this three-tiered altar, used to be the most important religious site in Vietnam. It’s where the Nguyen emperors would hold ceremonies and offer sacrifices to their gods. The ceremonies were a big deal, with a grand procession and the emperor fasting for three days at the nearby Fasting Palace. (The last one was in 1946, by the way, but you can still see photos with English captions at the palace!) Since 2006, they've actually started re-enacting the ceremony as part of the Hue Festival. You'll find the esplanade at the end of Dien Bien Phu Street, about 2km from the train tracks.

Absolutely love this restaurant's quality. Probably the only hotel's in-house restaurant with dishes I find stunning. The restaurant and its chef deserves way more glowing reviews. I enjoyed thoroughly the Viet dishes here, especially the classic Bún Bò Huế. Recently came back after two years and tried the beef ribs, delicious too. Obviously it is expensive for Hue, but you get a 5-star quality and I think it's very worth it.

Spectacular Hue style food served in elegant surroundings. A restaurant is exceptional if it is better on the second visit and this is our third in a short stay in Hue. Regional cuisine, our favourites include the Hue crispy pancake and the baby clam rice bowl. One of the best meals we have had, ever.

We had a very good dinner here while staying at the Silk Path Grand Hotel. The service was great! Uyet, our server, was very attentive and friendly, as was the restaurant manager!
Volker W — Google review
They can make anything. Usually when restaurants serve so many different dishes (from pasta and pizza to real local dishes) I expect the quality to be medium. But this was excellent. We went for the Asian menu, choosing the steamed fish local dish and a local soup. Amazing! Our neighbours picked the Western menu (pizza and icecream), and wow that looked and smelled amazing too, confirmed by them. The service is wonderful, very attentive and sweet. The prices are not too expensive for this quality (the soup was huge, and cost 180.000, the fish was a moderate filet and cost 320.000) I recommend.

The short street allows for a leisurely stroll to take in the refreshing breeze from the river and explore wooden kiosks offering souvenirs and delectable street food.
Loved walking along the boardwalk in the evening. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Hue. Beautiful views of the river and bridges, while watching how the locals enjoy the weekend. We also passed by a row of museums along the way and enjoyed the outdoor exhibits

Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Walking Street in Huế is a hidden gem that offers a delightful mix of local charm, culture, and relaxation right in the heart of the city. I spent an evening here during my recent trip to Huế and was absolutely enchanted by its peaceful ambiance and riverside beauty. Stretching along the Perfume River, this walking street is smaller and more intimate than some of the more commercial pedestrian streets in Vietnam, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It’s clean, well-maintained, and has a uniquely calm and romantic atmosphere — especially around sunset, when the sky turns golden and reflects off the water. What I appreciated most was the blend of local life and gentle tourism. You’ll find local families taking walks, street performers playing traditional Vietnamese instruments, and small stalls selling art, souvenirs, and light snacks. There are also several charming cafés and teahouses where you can sit and enjoy the view while sipping a cold drink or Vietnamese coffee. The street is beautifully lit in the evening, with colorful lanterns and tasteful lighting that enhances the cozy and poetic feel. It’s the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll, unwind after a day of sightseeing, or just people-watch and feel the rhythm of Huế. If you’re visiting Huế, don’t miss this spot. Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Walking Street is the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard — it simply lets Huế’s gentle soul speak for itself. Five stars without a doubt.

Hue’s walking street comes alive at night with colorful lights, street performers, and local vendors. It’s a great place to enjoy music, shopping, and local snacks. The lively atmosphere makes it unforgettable. I had so much fun here and will definitely encourage my friends to visit.

Nguyen Dinh Chieu Walking Street is a charming riverside promenade that blends local culture, scenic views, and relaxed energy. Located along the southern bank of the Perfume River, it stretches from Phu Xuan Bridge to Truong Tien Bridge and opens daily from late afternoon into the evening. As the sun sets, the area comes alive with street vendors selling snacks, drinks, and handcrafted souvenirs. The LED-lit bridges and river breeze create a peaceful backdrop for strolling, people-watching, or catching impromptu street performances. The street is compact but full of character—ideal for a short walk or a casual night out. It’s pedestrian-only, making it safe and quiet compared to busier city zones. Locals gather for music, games, and evening hangouts, while visitors enjoy the mix of food stalls, art displays, and photo spots. It’s not a major shopping hub, but it’s a great place to soak in Hue’s laid-back nightlife and riverside charm.

Bun Bo Hue My Tam is a must-try dish in the city of Hue, Vietnam. It's a local favorite and has gained recognition from both national and international sources as one of the most delicious Vietnamese dishes. The original noodle soup with beef in Hue stands out due to its big vermicelli threads and rich-flavored broth. This dish has gained worldwide fame, partly thanks to Anthony Bourdain's influence.
With my family, good services. 65k is reasonable price for full bowl 🥣
Nguyễn D — Google review
Worst experience eating in Vietnam so far. They served a “tourist” version of bun bo hue. When I pointed this out, they threw in a couple more toppings but this STILL was NOT how they served the locals, which included pork trotters. The flavours were not anything memorable either and the soup was room temperature, so really they have no redeeming factors. AVOID
Rufina ( — Google review
No prices displayed. We walk in and lady charged 65,000 vdn for a bowl of bun bo. Go to Bà Gai next door. They charge half price for the same.
S M — Google review
It’s ok if you pass by and wanna stop over for a bowl of Bun Bo Hue, but not a must-try place. To me, the Bun Bo is ok, it doesn’t have a very strong taste so it might be good for foreigners. Reasonable toppings. The price might be high for local but I think it’s ok for tourists, cuz Bun Bo in Saigon, for example, have similar price. I like the fact that the beef and pork leg are soft enough. Mình order tô thập cẩm, phần thịt cũng nhiều, nước vị nhẹ thanh. Ăn ổn.
Nguyen W — Google review
The Bún Bò here is fairly average in taste — not the most flavorful version I’ve had, but it’s still a decent option if you’re craving a warm, comforting bowl. The portion is generous enough for a filling meal, and the ingredients are fresh, just missing a bit of the depth or richness that makes a bowl truly memorable. What stood out more was the friendly and supportive staff. They were warm-hearted and attentive, making the dining experience pleasant and easy. Even with limited English, they tried their best to accommodate requests and were always smiling. One major plus: this is one of the few Bún Bò spots that stays open late, which is a real bonus if you’re looking for a late-night meal. It’s convenient for travelers or night owls who want something more than fast food after dark. Overall, a decent choice for a late, local bite, especially if you value kind service and need something quick and satisfying.
Bui M — Google review
This Bun Bo Hue place was recommended by a friend who lives in Huế. The facility was clean and the soup was delicious. Everyone should try Bun Bo Hue. If you are not that adventurous, you can order with beef only, without all the other ingredients like: pigs blood, cartilage, crab balls, etc. I also had the fresh orange juice. The oranges have, “Green” rind and look like a big lime, but the juice is orange and very sweet. The owners speak enough English to communicate. Our total bill for two people was 130k vnd.

Fantastic park situated along the Perfume River, we came here just before sunset after a day of hiding indoors away from the heat. Fantastic atmosphere with the noise and flashing lights, you can buy drinks and snacks from a few sellers near where the motorbikes are parked to enjoy a sit down. Heaps of families around, lots of young children having fun on the electric crazy carts,These rides are for hire and we paid 50k$ for half an hour, which was heaps of fun. These things go fast and just like the local motorbike traffic, it looks hectic when youre zooming around but we didn't experienced or witness any accidents. Do watch out when using the pathways around the park because you do still get the stray motor bike going past your unexpectedly.

Visited this park several times during the Vietnamese Reunification Holidays, as there was a culinary festival going on. Several food stands had been setup alongside a stage and every evening during this time there was a ton of local food to try and a few fun performances to watch! Additionally, the area was pretty clean and it was nice to see people using the nearby fitness equipment!

Cầu Trường Tiền, also known as Trang Tien Bridge, is a 402.60m long bridge spanning the Perfume River in Hue, Vietnam. It features six spans of comb-shaped steel beams and is designed in Gothic architecture. The bridge is a popular spot for locals and tourists to visit souvenir shops offering lacquerware, handicrafts, and unique Hue souvenirs.
An absolute standout when the sun sets—Trường Tiền Bridge lights up in a stunning display of colors that reflect beautifully on the Perfume River. The ever-changing lights transition between vibrant green, purple, red, blue, yellow, and even a rainbow sequence, making it a photographer’s dream at night. The bridge itself is an iconic structure connecting the two sides of Huế, with easy access for pedestrians. It’s not a long walk, but it’s one you’ll want to take slowly to enjoy the views and atmosphere. The lighting setup is really well done—tasteful, modern, and enhances the whole riverside area. Definitely worth visiting just before dusk so you can catch the transformation as the lights begin to glow. A great spot for an evening stroll, night photography, or just soaking in Huế’s riverside charm.

Walking across it, I was captivated by the stunning views of the Perfume River, which offers a serene contrast to the bustling city around it. During the day, the bridge bustles with activity, providing a glimpse into the daily life of locals and fellow travelers. Kien Trung Palace, nestled at the northern end of the Forbidden City, is a stunning testament to Vietnam's royal history and architectural evolution. This remarkable site showcases a unique blend of Asian and European styles, particularly Indochine influences. Once the backdrop for Emperor Bao Dai's abdication, it symbolizes the end of Vietnam’s monarchy. Despite its destruction during wartime, recent restoration efforts have revived its former splendor.
Dien Kien Trung is a stunning architectural gem within the Imperial City of Hue. The building showcases elegant design and intricate carvings that reflect the sophistication of Nguyen dynasty art. Every detail, from the delicate patterns to the graceful structure, tells a story of imperial grandeur. Outside, the area is even more charming with vibrant flowers blooming everywhere, creating a colorful and peaceful atmosphere. The beauty of nature blends perfectly with the historical setting, making it a perfect spot for photos and quiet admiration. Dien Kien Trung is truly a highlight of Hue’s cultural heritage.
Jenna L — Google review
Nice Palace which combines different styles and influences. It was the House of the last Emperor of the Nguyen family. Destroyed by the Vietminh during the war, it has been entirely renovated and therefore it has lost a bit of the charm of buildings which conserve the marks of time on their walls. It is slightly kitsch as compared to more authentic buildings and tombs which can be visited in the Hue.
Oliver K — Google review
Worth taking time to visit this magnificent palace. The palace has been restored to its glorious condition. The decorative motif is superb!
Quan D — Google review
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to step straight into a Vietnamese imperial fairy tale — complete with dragons, gold leaf, and an abundance of photo ops — Kien Trung Palace is the place. The exterior alone is jaw-dropping. The intricate mosaics, vibrant colors, and dragon sculptures are so detailed that you’ll start to wonder if the artisans had magnifying glasses for eyes. Walking inside, it only gets better: golden trim, lush wall patterns, and chairs so ornate you almost feel bad sitting on them (don’t worry, they’re mostly for display). The art gallery upstairs was a fantastic surprise — modern and traditional interpretations of dragons, qilin, and imperial symbols blend beautifully. It’s like stepping through time, except with air-conditioning. My personal favorite was a painting of a stone dragon lit up like it was ready to leap out of the frame. Pro tip: bring a camera and an extra SD card. You’ll need it. Also, be prepared to say “wow” so many times that people might think you’re part of the tour guide staff. Overall, Kien Trung Palace is a must-see in Hue. It’s a gorgeous mix of history and artistry that’ll leave you feeling like you just visited the set of an epic Asian period drama — minus the sword fights. 🐉

Shrine
Hon Chen is a riverside temple complex located on the banks of the Perfume River, about 10 km upriver from Hue. It is dedicated to a goddess and has an associated folk legend. The temple hosts the biannual Hon Chen Festival, featuring drums and women dancing in colorful attire.
Such a tranquil temple with gentle breeze and cicada song. Peaceful and sacred Temple for centuries.

Very disappointed with this one - 50,000vnd for what only takes 5 minutes to walk around. Beautiful view but can be seen without entering the site.

Pretty, but not really worth the visit unless you're passing anyway. You go up a dozen steps, walk 15m in each direction & you're done.

Want to learn about a legendary temple in Hue? You have to check out Hon Chen Temple! It’s connected to a cool story about a turtle that returned a jade cup to the emperor. This temple is also a great example of the cultural mix between Vietnamese and Cham people. It was originally built to worship a Cham goddess, who was later worshipped by the Vietnamese with a different title. When you visit, you'll get to hear some interesting stories and explore a colorful part of Vietnam's history.

It's a very small place, and there's an entrance fee(50,000 VND). You can get there by car or grab. The ladies of the Dragon Boat say they can never get there by the car^^; You don't have to rip off to ride a dragon boat. I don't think I need to visit this place.

Hon Chen Temple is located on a hill by the Perfume River and is one of the most sacred sites in Hue. Its colorful festivals and rituals are full of energy and local culture. I found it both spiritual and fascinating, and I will definitely recommend my friends to come here.

If you're looking to immerse yourself in the culinary delights of Vietnam, a Hue Cooking Class is an absolute must! This vibrant city is renowned for its imperial cuisine, offering a unique blend of flavors that you won't find anywhere else. During the class, you'll have the opportunity to learn from skilled chefs who will guide you through preparing traditional dishes like prawn mango salad and charcoal-grilled pork skewers.
Very good workshop! Anh was very kind and knowledgeable. We started with going to the market to buy the ingredients and he would also point out different things to tell us what it is. Next we had a really nice workshop in his kitchen. We made super delicious dishes that are also Hue traditional dishes. Things you'd normally only eat but now you also know how they're being made. His kitchen is in a very nice and quiet part of Hue. All in all we'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something special to do and also have nice food to eat as a bonus!

This class was a fantastic experience – genuine, intimate, and absolutely delicious. If you're expecting a professional, custom-built kitchen setup with air conditioning, matching dinnerware, and all ingredients prepped in advance for you, this might not be the right fit for you. But if you're after real, hands-on cooking with a personal touch, this is perfect. We really appreciated the relaxed vibe, the conversation, the recipes, and the chance to get involved in every step. Highly recommend! Anh was wonderful – his English is solid and he has a deep knowledge of the food and recipes.

I would highly recommend this cooking lesson. Anh the host was friendly, informative and kind. He took us round the local market where he picked out the ingredients that we used to cook with. We then went back to his house / cookery school and began the lesson. We made a mango salad, traditional chicken dish, pork skewers and he also catered for the vegetarians in our group. It was a great local experience and the food we cooked was delicious.
Ruby F — Google review
I really enjoyed Anh's cooking class when I visited last month. We just had one full day in Hue, and only had time for the evening cooking class (that didn't include the market visit). Anh helped us cook a delicious meal of traditional central Vietnam cuisine using fresh and flavorful ingredients: Mango salad, lemongrass chicken & pork skewers. I'd highly recommend for anyone visiting Hue.

It was a very nice experience learning to cook typical vietnamese/hue's food with Anh! He is very kind and speaks great English so he was the perfect Host. At first we had a nice market walk with Anh. After that he shows us how to cook in vietnamese style in a authentic and interactive way and we also learned a lot of vietnamese culture. We enjoyed the time in Anh's cooking class and can highly recommend it!

Hue Cooking Class with Anh was a fantastic way to spend our morning. We started off with a trip to the market to shop for ingredients followed by a short taxi ride to Anh's house where we were taught how to make three delicious dishes.

Historical place
Thai Binh Pavilion, situated in the heart of Hue Historic Citadel, served as a tranquil retreat for the emperor and hosted significant royal ceremonies during the Nguyen Dynasty. Although currently under reconstruction and inaccessible to visitors, its exquisite exterior craftsmanship, particularly the roofs, can still be admired. Once an imperial library and reading room, it now houses artifacts and operates as a souvenir shop.
Thái Bình Lâu, located within the Huế Imperial City, is a pavilion that served as a personal retreat for the Nguyễn emperors, particularly for reading, studying, and relaxation. Its name translates to "Pavilion of Supreme Peace," reflecting its intended purpose as a tranquil space. A fun fact about Thái Bình Lâu is that it was a favorite spot of Emperor Khải Định, who had a particular interest in arts, culture, and Western ideas. He would often come to this pavilion to read books and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The architecture of Thái Bình Lâu blends traditional Vietnamese elements with some European influences, particularly in its interior decoration, symbolizing the cultural exchange that took place during the later period of the Nguyễn Dynasty. The pavilion is surrounded by lush gardens and ponds, making it a serene place for the emperors to escape from the affairs of state and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere conducive to intellectual and artistic pursuits.

(Translated by Google) I entered the restaurant at 9:00 p.m., ordered 3 dishes and 2 glasses of water, but after waiting for more than half an hour, I thought I was going to drink coffee because I only got 2 glasses of drink. With a service standard (The staff in charge of ordering tables must take care and ask if your table is missing anything). Meanwhile, the customers were gone and there were no longer any crowds, so why were the staff running back and forth joking around while I had already asked for the food twice. For a while, feeling helpless, I kept waiting for more than an hour and only got one dish of fried rice with minced meat. And the third time I asked, the staff kept running into the kitchen without giving me any response until the last time I said if I haven't done it yet, I don't need to do it anymore, and charged me on the table. Only then did another female employee come out and apologize that the kitchen missed the bill😇. It's a terrible experience to go out to eat and watch other people eat, then gradually all the guests leave the table and you still don't have your food (Original) Mình vào quán lúc 21h00 order 3 món ăn và 2 ly nước nhưng đợi hơn nữa tiếng thì tưởng chừng là đi uống cf vì chỉ có được 2 ly đồ uống. Luong Dinh Pavilion is a historical site located in Hue, Vietnam, and is part of the architectural complex of Hue's ancient capital. It holds significant documents of the Nguyen court and is featured on the 50,000 VND banknote. The pavilion was traditionally a resting place for kings before their river journeys and a spot to enjoy the cool air. Visitors can relax, camp, and take leisurely walks around this beautiful area.
A symbolic landmark that has stood the test of time, situated by the Perfume River that runs through the city. Great to go for a jog or a stroll, take your kids for fresh air and recreational activities such as roller skating, photo ops, go-kart-ish rides, or just a fried sausage -- day or night.

(Translated by Google) When visiting the Hue Citadel, I would like to comment on the following issues. Although small, they cause discomfort for tourists and reflect the manager's poor talent and intelligence. One is: the current tour ticket price is 200k/person, but when entering, you cannot visit Thai Hoa Palace because it is being demolished due to restoration => so why not reduce the ticket even for guests but sell it for 200k? Second: Hue ancient capital relics are an important and meaningful heritage in many aspects, like a giant outdoor museum => there should be a tour guide to give a systematic and systematic introduction about this place and should not be wasted. Yet this place still charges a demonstration fee. The amount of 150k is not large, but our way of dealing with history like that is excessive and lacking in education. Third: electric cars here are charged by the hour, 1 hour is 300k, a car can carry 7 people and still charges 300k. But the tram can't go very far, it just runs around in circles, and can't get close to the nine Gods. Seeing many aunts and uncles trying their best to ride the tram but the tickets were too expensive so they had to walk, made me feel sorry for them. Only families that are well-off can afford to rent an electric car. => Tickets pile up on tickets, squeezing tourists, not serving thoroughly, in the end still "shaping" tourists to the bone. You should review the price of the electric car or the exit route to make it more convenient for passengers. Fourth: relics are displayed for sale haphazardly inside, some are real but some are fake, losing the solemnity of a big relic => regardless of money, causing a lot of resentment for tourists. This is my subjective opinion, I hope to receive more constructive feedback.

During your culinary adventure in Hue, make sure to indulge in the delightful "Bánh Bèo Khay." This traditional dish consists of small, circular rice cakes that are a true representation of Hue's rich culinary heritage. Often served with a variety of toppings and accompanied by savory dipping sauces, these bite-sized treats offer a unique blend of flavors and textures.
What puts this place apart is the amount of shrimp on it. I had two portions of the pic at 80k. Can I get cheaper? yes. Can I find the same amount of shrimp and this taste? Not yet!
James — Google review
We shared a tray of 20 bánh bèo for 80k. The price feels high compared to other places we have eaten and considering other reviews. Our mistake for not asking the price upfront. The food was very tasty, not greasy and lots of flavour. They could have filled the plates a little more for the price; for two people it would only make a light snack.
