Hue Imperial City was built in 1804 under King Gia Long and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993. I love walking around the ancient palace and admire the beauty at every corner. Hundred years ago, it used to a enormous and glorious palace. Sadly, many constructions are damaged, though they are being restored, could not bring back the original spirit of the place. The atmosphere was quite sad in a rainy day.

Come to the palace for a photo op, especially in traditional costumes. It's not a particularly interesting place for a casual tour, but it's beautiful in its details. If you're visiting on a sunny day, be sure to bring an umbrella, as there's very little shade.

Overall, it was a solid experience, though I expected a bit more. The complex is huge, but the overall layout could be better organized. I didn’t take the audio guide because I don’t like using headphones — probably a mistake. The descriptions of the monuments were quite minimal and not very engaging. If you're taking a Grab, it seems like the drop-off point is set too far. So you can just stop near the new bridge, which will open on March 26, 2025. It’s really nice for a journey along the water. The people selling boat rides WILL rip you off. A 200k ride for an hour quickly became 200k per person. Then our 1 hour ride was over in 15 minutes. Look it’s not expensive, I just didn’t appreciate being ripped off.

If you are interested in Nguyen Dynasty's document like Châu Bản triều Nguyễn (Royal Records of Nguyễn Dynasty), Địa bạ triều Nguyễn (Records of Address in Nguyễn Dynasty) or simply just want a nice quite place to settle down for a moment then this is definitely the place for you. It's basically a small library that has been existing since the Nguyen Dynasty. The staff does know basic conversation English but if you are looking for something specific then you better have your translator devices ready. At least they are pretty easy going and friendly. No tickets are needed, open in office hours. Although you should check their website in advance, in case they close for maintenance.

A hidden gem. Yes they are in the process of restoration and yet to be able to walk around the house and gardens is worth while. It's only 100k for a couple but well worth it. Not really on the main tourist trail but time permitting with a visit.

We requested special consideration as we have some access issues and were given VIP treatment. They asked where I was from and at the end of the show a girl came out wearing an Ao Dai with the flag of my country! Then they made sure I got a picture with her afterwards. Nearby you can enjoy kayaking, swimming in the river, and listening to the famous Hue folk songs. This is an amazing market, seems everything is here, quite big! Upstairs are clothing, bags and silks. We don’t have a very good experience up there, they were very pushy! A lady meet us on the stairs asking us to have a look at her clothing, told her we’re not looking anything in particular just having a look around. But she won’t have it, they will put anything you might be interested in your face! She was getting rude when I wasn’t buying. Price start really high! Another woman won’t let you passed by until they shoved anything they’re selling on your face! They repeat what you saying in a rude way! It can get pretty crowded and intense, especially in the late afternoon. This is the perfect place to grab local specialties or last-minute gifts. The market closes around 7:00 PM, so it’s best to visit in the morning or late afternoon. It’s a must-see spot in Huế.

Authentic local market, we went on a Monday morning, under 1% tourists. There an upstairs which Sells clothing and material which can be access from stairs in the middle. A good place to practice your bargaining skills and try some local cuisine. The market has sections: kitchen ceramics, baskets weaving, shoes, nuts and grains, fresh flowers, food incense etc.

Great market and street market outside in the week at least when we visited. Friendly owners help guide you through just about every food type and fruit. This is a special market where you can buy your fruit and veggies and tea and then sit and have some fresh food. Buy a bag for the family some shoes and then some jewelry for the wife or girlfriend followed by desert. Where else can you do that in a market.

The Nam Giao Esplanade, this three-tiered altar, used to be the most important religious site in Vietnam. It’s where the Nguyen emperors would hold ceremonies and offer sacrifices to their gods. The ceremonies were a big deal, with a grand procession and the emperor fasting for three days at the nearby Fasting Palace. (The last one was in 1946, by the way, but you can still see photos with English captions at the palace!) Since 2006, they've actually started re-enacting the ceremony as part of the Hue Festival. You'll find the esplanade at the end of Dien Bien Phu Street, about 2km from the train tracks.

Absolutely love this restaurant's quality. Probably the only hotel's in-house restaurant with dishes I find stunning. The restaurant and its chef deserves way more glowing reviews. I enjoyed thoroughly the Viet dishes here, especially the classic Bún Bò Huế. Recently came back after two years and tried the beef ribs, delicious too. Obviously it is expensive for Hue, but you get a 5-star quality and I think it's very worth it.

Spectacular Hue style food served in elegant surroundings. A restaurant is exceptional if it is better on the second visit and this is our third in a short stay in Hue. Regional cuisine, our favourites include the Hue crispy pancake and the baby clam rice bowl. One of the best meals we have had, ever.

We had a very good dinner here while staying at the Silk Path Grand Hotel. The service was great! Uyet, our server, was very attentive and friendly, as was the restaurant manager!

They can make anything. Usually when restaurants serve so many different dishes (from pasta and pizza to real local dishes) I expect the quality to be medium. But this was excellent. We went for the Asian menu, choosing the steamed fish local dish and a local soup. Amazing! Our neighbours picked the Western menu (pizza and icecream), and wow that looked and smelled amazing too, confirmed by them. The service is wonderful, very attentive and sweet. The prices are not too expensive for this quality (the soup was huge, and cost 180.000, the fish was a moderate filet and cost 320.000) I recommend.

Worst experience eating in Vietnam so far. They served a “tourist” version of bun bo hue. When I pointed this out, they threw in a couple more toppings but this STILL was NOT how they served the locals, which included pork trotters. The flavours were not anything memorable either and the soup was room temperature, so really they have no redeeming factors. AVOID

No prices displayed. We walk in and lady charged 65,000 vdn for a bowl of bun bo. Go to Bà Gai next door. They charge half price for the same.

It’s ok if you pass by and wanna stop over for a bowl of Bun Bo Hue, but not a must-try place. To me, the Bun Bo is ok, it doesn’t have a very strong taste so it might be good for foreigners. Reasonable toppings. The price might be high for local but I think it’s ok for tourists, cuz Bun Bo in Saigon, for example, have similar price. It’s convenient for travelers or night owls who want something more than fast food after dark. Overall, a decent choice for a late, local bite, especially if you value kind service and need something quick and satisfying.

This Bun Bo Hue place was recommended by a friend who lives in Huế. The facility was clean and the soup was delicious. Everyone should try Bun Bo Hue. Fantastic park situated along the Perfume River, we came here just before sunset after a day of hiding indoors away from the heat. Fantastic atmosphere with the noise and flashing lights, you can buy drinks and snacks from a few sellers near where the motorbikes are parked to enjoy a sit down. Heaps of families around, lots of young children having fun on the electric crazy carts,These rides are for hire and we paid 50k$ for half an hour, which was heaps of fun. These things go fast and just like the local motorbike traffic, it looks hectic when youre zooming around but we didn't experienced or witness any accidents. Do watch out when using the pathways around the park because you do still get the stray motor bike going past your unexpectedly.

Visited this park several times during the Vietnamese Reunification Holidays, as there was a culinary festival going on. Several food stands had been setup alongside a stage and every evening during this time there was a ton of local food to try and a few fun performances to watch! Otherwise, the park is a nice area to walk around and have a picnic in as there are a lot of trees, greenspace, and wonderful views of the river. Additionally, the area was pretty clean and it was nice to see people using the nearby fitness equipment!

Beautiful view especially after dark with the cozy breeze from the river. The boats line up for a river tour too plus one floating restaurant. The changing color of the bridge at night was amazingly stunning.

Nice Palace which combines different styles and influences. It was the House of the last Emperor of the Nguyen family. Destroyed by the Vietminh during the war, it has been entirely renovated and therefore it has lost a bit of the charm of buildings which conserve the marks of time on their walls. It is slightly kitsch as compared to more authentic buildings and tombs which can be visited in the Hue.

Worth taking time to visit this magnificent palace. The palace has been restored to its glorious condition. The decorative motif is superb!

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to step straight into a Vietnamese imperial fairy tale — complete with dragons, gold leaf, and an abundance of photo ops — Kien Trung Palace is the place. The exterior alone is jaw-dropping. The intricate mosaics, vibrant colors, and dragon sculptures are so detailed that you’ll start to wonder if the artisans had magnifying glasses for eyes. Walking inside, it only gets better: golden trim, lush wall patterns, and chairs so ornate you almost feel bad sitting on them (don’t worry, they’re mostly for display). The art gallery upstairs was a fantastic surprise — modern and traditional interpretations of dragons, qilin, and imperial symbols blend beautifully. It’s like stepping through time, except with air-conditioning. My personal favorite was a painting of a stone dragon lit up like it was ready to leap out of the frame. Pro tip: bring a camera and an extra SD card. You’ll need it. Also, be prepared to say “wow” so many times that people might think you’re part of the tour guide staff. Overall, Kien Trung Palace is a must-see in Hue. It’s a gorgeous mix of history and artistry that’ll leave you feeling like you just visited the set of an epic Asian period drama — minus the sword fights. 🐉

The upper floor of the palace had a temporary art exhibit. Ground floor has a couple of gorgeous rooms, a snack bar and patio, with a gift shop.

In my opinion, not the most beautiful part of the Imperial Citadel. It is clear that the whole building has been renovated after the War and it lacks true authenticity. It is still worth the visit.

But if you're after real, hands-on cooking with a personal touch, this is perfect. We really appreciated the relaxed vibe, the conversation, the recipes, and the chance to get involved in every step. Highly recommend! Anh was wonderful – his English is solid and he has a deep knowledge of the food and recipes.

I would highly recommend this cooking lesson. Anh the host was friendly, informative and kind. He took us round the local market where he picked out the ingredients that we used to cook with. We then went back to his house / cookery school and began the lesson. We made a mango salad, traditional chicken dish, pork skewers and he also catered for the vegetarians in our group. It was a great local experience and the food we cooked was delicious.

I really enjoyed Anh's cooking class when I visited last month. We just had one full day in Hue, and only had time for the evening cooking class (that didn't include the market visit). Anh helped us cook a delicious meal of traditional central Vietnam cuisine using fresh and flavorful ingredients: Mango salad, lemongrass chicken & pork skewers. I'd highly recommend for anyone visiting Hue.

Prettiest place in the forbidden city for us. So much wonderfull trees and flowers and the Koi's are amazing. Loved the arrangements of flowers growing on trees and the big old bonsai.

Beautiful gardens to visit in the palace grounds. The garden architecture is a great execution of East Asian design philosophy, resulting in a tranquil and serene place to enjoy whilst visiting the palace.

By far my favourite place in the forbidden city. The plants are being taken care of and the architecture of the garden is just beautiful. I can only imagine this being a favourite place of the royal family to take walks or sit and talk during the Nguyen dynasties time. There are many picture opportunities and a lot of people are using them so don’t expect to be alone here during the main visiting time. If you want to have the garden all to yourself stay until the sun starts to set.

A lovely rock garden with bonsai and small ponds, interspersed between winding verandah. Reminding me of the classical Suzhou Garden. Worth a visit if you like such structure.
