Restaurant
The Bridge Tavern is a traditional pub located on the edge of Old Portsmouth's Camber Dock, offering a friendly atmosphere and a menu featuring fine food and drinks. The pub reflects its dockside location with dishes like Homemade Seafood Chowder and daily fish specials, along with excellent vegetarian options. With dark wood panelling, stripped floors, and harbour-side terrace tables, it has retained its traditional pub feel.
Fantastic Fullers pub. Lovely outside seating by the sea. Wonderful sun trap in the afternoon. Good selection of Fullers beers with extra ones in bottles in the fridge. On our list to return next time in Portsmouth.
AC A — Google review
Nice pub, location at the interior pier, but with marina flavor. The pub is cozy and comfortable. Great food, amazing mussels, great whitebait and also good sausages cooked with wine. The staff could be a little more emphatic. Recommended

Had lunch, and all three meals were very good, tasty, and large portions. The staff were very friendly is a definitely return place

Cool pub, great selection of beers, nice and friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Came for the valentines menu, food was fresh and cooked perfectly, the portion sizes were larger than what we would typically expect which was a nice surprise! Scallops 💯 👌 Duck breast 💯 👌 Steak and chips 💯 👍🏻 Cheese cake and chocolate strawberry love heart macaroon 💯 👌 Compliments to Chef Paul and the front of house staff who looked after us!
Dan C — Google review
It's lovely place with good location and lovely atmosphere. Dogs friendly. Good drinks. We ordered few dishes: Scallops (grilled) absolutely amazing, Mediterranean platter- just ok, Haddock - recommended but grilled Turbot we had not worthy a penny, not grilled at all, cold and served with cold vegetables. 4* for staff who sorted it out and offered another dish. We ordered two fillet steak burgers and hmmm described as "med rare only" so I belive not justly for us.
Radosław K — Google review
Fabulous pub on the harbour. We came here for my partner's birthday because the reviews were good and they allow dogs - we were blown away with the amazing food at good prices. So much so that we returned for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed.

Great pub set within the old Portsmouth harbour. Outside seating is available. Also serves good food and a great choice of beers and wines Good views of the harbour can be enjoyed in relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Pub
Located in the heart of the University of Portsmouth quarter, The Fleet Portsmouth is a popular red-brick pub housed in a historic building that was once a Royal Navy fire station. This corner pub features a large terrace garden and hosts events such as quiz nights and live music, making it a favorite among students, city center workers, and visitors.
A Flavor Explosion Worth Every Penny! If you're looking for a meal that delivers a little bit of everything-then The Fleet is your spot! I kicked off my feast with the Build Your Board and I must say, customizing it was a game-changer. The spicy waffle chicken goujons with ketchup, and loaded nachos (with just the right amount of jalapeños) had me hooked from the first bite. At £11.99, I was basically living my best foodie life! The Spanish ham croquettes? Soft, golden, and utterly tasty-like little bites of heaven. As for the spicy chicken burger, it didn't pack the heat I was expecting, but the flavor was on point, especially paired with crispy chips and a free drink to wash it all down. Oh, and let's not forget the crazy chicken bacon burger, which was as tasty as it sounds, proving once again that bacon makes everything better. From top to bottom, every dish was a crowd-pleaser. For variety, flavor, and all the right kinds of indulgence The Fleet has earned a loyal fan in me!

We come to visit as our brother has just started working here - we were served by Bobbie who was very polite, friendly and very welcoming. Definitely worth visiting for food. Lovely venue that's a bar above other local places we've been in when visiting Portsmouth.
Brooke K — Google review
We have enjoyed lovely food, kind and cheerful service. Lovely except for the soundscape. There seems to be radio and TV sounds happening simultaneously, the discord is terrible. So lovely to go outside again.

Food looks amazing but have not had a chance to try it yet,the pub is very big and has a garden lots of drinks to choose from
Wayne B — Google review
Our first visit since Feb 2020 after this awful Covid situation. So pleased to still see it roomy and friendly. Some shining stars in the table and bar service. Security friendly after reminding us that kids not after nine pm. All good. Good food for kids and adults all good.. First time back with kids. Staff super busy but super helpful. Great service. Food was good. Update. Visit with three kids. Staff OK but not really engaged. Ordered some chips and asked for the kids colouring set. Something to keep them entertained. Apparently this has stopped. OK not a big deal. But we had to go because the kids were getting bored. This review is given with the acknowledgement it is tough for business out there. Great service on Christmas Eve. Especially by a gentleman who maybe is hard of hearing. Couldn't do enough for the kids with table service and completely understanding the challenges of four kids.
Nicholas S — Google review
Food here is pretty good, slightly above pub standard and the prices are fair but do seem to change randomly which can be confusing. The small plates are good deals and £2.49 for 10 onion rings is definitely a steal. I also like the pub quizzes they do here, but it's not so much a general knowledge quiz when 60% of the questions are football related.
Connor L — Google review
Brilliant place, karaoke night is brilliant. Ordered Hunters chips and they were delicious, albeit a little dry. Then ordered the chocolate cake which was a huge slice more than I was expecting which was fantastic, but that too was a little dry, I don't know if they were under heat lamps or what but that was the only fault. Taste was sensational
Lex R — Google review
Enjoy coming here but seems a bit naughty to massively increase the prices for an England game which is what the staff said head office told them to do - nearly £7 for a pint. Reason being to cover the increase in glass collecting however you are serving in plastic cups!

Excellent pub. Publican was really welcoming and recommended a delicious summer ale. Kids ate all the sweets. Interior really atmospheric and toilets clean. What more can you ask for!

Lovely little old school pub in Portsmouth, not many left but this place is a friendly little gem... Didn't have food as too late in the day. But a good choice of beers and ciders..
Peter L — Google review
Went here on my first day in England. Very friendly pub owner. We had beer and cider, both were great. Enjoyed my time here!
Mat S — Google review
A really nice pub with cozy atmosphere and a friendly Bartender. The range of ciders we tried was really nice and some sweets at the bar looked very tempting. Music was quiet but fitting and they where flexible on the closing times, which gave us time for anorher round befor moving on
L. L — Google review
If you like a good ale pub, then this is the place to be. Offering a fantastic choice of beers. It is a small pub but makes it more cosy. They offer a sample of the beers for you to taste before you buy. Service is friendly and always happy to advise on what they offer. Highly recommended.
James L — Google review
A sad experience. I used to frequent this lovely little pub around 10 years ago; it used to be a thriving little boozer. I'm back on the South Coast so thought I'd pop in: it was a busy Sunday afternoon but it was shut!? So I went back the next Saturday evening. It was again a busy evening in Southsea - I got to the Hole in the Wall around 2030 and it was shut!! The owner actually saw us trying to get in and said that it's too quiet so he's had to shut early. Funny though how the Barley Mow and the pub next door where rammed....Needless to say we spent the evening at the Barley Mow.
Tim P — Google review
Quite probably the best back street boozer in Portsmouth. Great beer selection on cask and keg. The foreign bottle selection is also good. Great atmosphere and fantastic staff.

Went for a bottomless brunch and twas delightful. Food was delicious loads of veggie options which was good. V quick service from Rob and James shout out they were amazing drinks to hand at all times. Would come again for sure! Highly recommend.

Found our new favourite place. Had my favourite cider on tap (inches) and the food and cocktails were also excellent. Very friendly and fast service, will definitely be coming back.
Lyndsay B — Google review
Came here for a friend's birthday and did the bottomless brunch, we've done quite a few in different places but this one was one of, if not THE best! The staff were so good, kept the entire table of 10+ constantly topped up, the food came out fast and was really tasty, and the atmosphere on a Saturday night was loud but not too loud, just right! Cannot recommend this highly enough!
Jamie R — Google review
The service was amazing, served by the same guy, Robbie, as the first time we came and each time Robbie has always kept a smile in his face even when dealing with difficult customers. Honestly made the whole experience of bottomless brunch very enjoyable!!
Grace J — Google review
Shoutout to their cleaner Kojo! A very kind, hard working and polite young man who was incredibly helpful the other night! Thank you again buddy! You were awesome! ♥️
Y Y — Google review
Cannot rate our bartender highly enough, Simon. Cocktails came in perfect time, i asked questions about the history of classic cocktails and he answered them happily and with ease. Incredible skill and just an incredible knowledge base. We were here for a bottemless brunch, the food was perfect for the occasion. The atmosphere was lovley. I will definitely come here again.
Lee H — Google review
Came here as Spoons was full and didn't regret it. Decent food which you can order from your table. Comfortable seating and nice atmosphere. Only quibble I had was Wi-Fi wasn't working when I visited but that's a minor point as you can get mobile signal in there.
James D — Google review
Absolutely Awful – Avoid at All Costs I don’t normally leave reviews, but our experience at The Dockyard in Portsmouth (Guildhall Walk) was so appalling, I felt compelled to warn others. From the moment we arrived, the staff were disinterested, rude, and completely inexperienced. It felt like they didn’t want to be there, and they certainly didn’t want us there either. We booked for the bottomless brunch, which turned out to be anything but “bottomless” — we were served one drink in the space of two hours. No attention from staff, no explanation, and no effort to make it right. The food was equally disappointing — cold, bland, and clearly just thrown together with no care or quality. We ended up leaving most of it. To top it all off, the manager seemed totally uninterested in our complaints — no apology, no resolution, just shrugged us off like it was our problem. For a venue in such a central location, the standards are shockingly low. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. This place needs serious improvement, starting with management and staff training.

The Dolphin Pub & Kitchen, located on the High Street at Old Portsmouth, is said to be the city's oldest pub, established in 1716. The historic bar area features stone flag floors and roof beams adorned with memorabilia. This charming establishment offers a fantastic selection of real ales and serves everyday pub plates in its quaint quarters and beer garden. Visitors can enjoy great service and well-priced food while taking in lovely views from the cozy bar area.
Delicious traditional British food. When you tire of the chain restaurants in Gunwharf Quays; come and fill your belly with some wholesome grub. My food was served piping hot, and I enjoyed every bite. The young lady waiting on my table was polite and attentive. The atmosphere is homely.
Ryan — Google review
Was so looking forward to returning to a popular venue, but was not impressed with the gloomy atmosphere with the dark decor. We used to visit fairly regularly many years ago when it was a real 🙏 to go there. The meal was a good choice of food but was luke warm and swimming in gravy. Would we visit again? Don't think so!
Ann J — Google review
Nice quaint pub with historical connections. Simple food selection with some good takes on British food (fish finger sandwich recommended). Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff. Ramp available for wheelchair access, just ask.
Mark H — Google review
The Sunday roast was excellent, we had the lamb shank and the vegan one and both were great. The Yorkshire puddings were huge, definitely recommend.
Ruksan E — Google review
Myself and mate come here every Wednesday for a couple of drinks and a steak dinner. The service, and food is amazing! Perfectly cooked, with beautiful sides. The staff are very friendly, and ensure we are happy and content.
Gary H — Google review
Popped in for a pint recently while out for a walk and wasn’t disappointed. It seems a friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. It was cosy and well kept, with some good event offerings, including a curry and comedy night. The beer was good and the staff friendly and welcoming. Will visit again!
Sarah C — Google review
Read such great reviews so only one that we stopped by when drove to Portsmouth for a day out. Dog friendly yes it was all around the pub but nothing on menu for dogs so something to add maybe. A bowl of water was given though! Ambience decent. Food was average! The seafood pie was a let down! The cocktail was just sugar sweet. Chicken was tender in the meal. Sauce though tasted more like Passata. Lasagne was decent. But for the price main with some peas thrown as side and chips or fries hmm… ! Seasoning, taste all needed a bit of an extra!
Sunita — Google review
Lovely 18th century pub. situated just across the road from the beautiful portsmouth cathedral. Serving good food menu choices as well as wine and beers. I can recommend the gammon steak it was delicious. Service was very efficient and friendly and also a great interior decor which made the visit more enjoyable. Highly recommended.

The Sir Alec Rose - JD Wetherspoon is a relaxed British pub located in Port Solent, offering a laid-back atmosphere and a patio with views of the marina. As part of the JD Wetherspoon pub group, it provides good value food and drinks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The venue is Cask Marque accredited and serves a variety of quality cask real ales. Customers can also enjoy free Wi-Fi access.
It was a Tuesday. We were there to kill time and to celebrate as we just finished moving to another accommodation. Lovely to be sat outside enjoying the sun and a bit of sea breeze. Service was fast. Steaks were good and seasoned well. Condiments are on the side, pick whatever you like. You can order through Wetherspoon app and scan the QR code. We were quite happy to order by the till.
Rich A — Google review
The 'Sir Alec Rose' is nicely located in the marina. Most recently, I was disappointed with the portion size of my fish and chips, even though I ordered the larger option. The fish fillet was rather small and thin, and there was a modest amount of chips and mushy peas, I think the chef must be used to serving Ethiopians. However, everything was cooked perfectly; the fish had a delightful, crispy golden batter and was delicious. The chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside, the peas were well-seasoned and of excellent consistency, and everything was served hot. I also like that all sauces are quality branded & not cheap catering rubbish often served elsewhere. Considering the meal cost £11.61, including a pint of Leffe (which is £5.50 alone), the value was very reasonable even given the meagre portion. I especially like the app ordering system, and the food arrived promptly, served by friendly staff. I have dined here several times, and aside from the occasional cold breakfast, I always find "The Sir Alec Rose" a nice place to visit.

First visit: Lovely place and location. Great view over the marina. Edit. Returned 2 months later. Paid £8 for 2 bowls of chips. Worst ever tasteless dry and quite a few burnt ones. How can you enjoy???
Gordon B — Google review
Good food esp freedom breakfast. Coffee machines giving barely half cup but tasted good. Quite small, noisy upstairs but quieter downstairs, lots of seats outside though.
A M — Google review
This was by FAR the worst piece of meat and burger we have ever had! The steak was supposed to be medium rare. It was burnt, had no spice and VERY chewy! The burger patty was burnt. Almost no meat! I will never ever come here again. If I could give them a minus 10 I would
Erika B — Google review
Always a fabulous experience. ALL the staff are amazing. The position is fabulous. Great food. Great prices. Great atmosphere. I can literally go anywhere, but choose here 😜
Deborah H — Google review
Had a small breakfast (Freedom) and the fried eggs appeared to be microwaved. I could bounce the edge of my knife on the white without making any impression. I was assured by the server I accosted (sorry!) that they weren't microwaved and that she would bring me some replacements. She did, and they were the normal fried eggs I'm used to in Spoons, delicious. If the first ones weren't microwaved the chef has invented a new way to make eggs inedible. On another subject: Dear Tim, a grilled tomato is not a raw tomato that has been scorched briefly on one side. Tell me where we can meet and I'll show you how to do it.😀
Alan C — Google review
We ate here on Monday and it was really nice. We found a table and ordered via our phone. As you can see from the photos we had curry, pizza, jacket potato and burger so a wide range. We also had puddings, soft drinks and a coffee which I was too full to refill, even though I could have done. The food came in good time and was hot and we had no problems. The salad was nice and fresh and we all left having had a nice time. The staff were friendly and we will be returning. Thankyou.

My first time visiting in a very long time, and I must saying there is a massive improvement, across all bases! George the new manager is doing an incredible job, felt very welcome as soon as I walked through the door! The atmosphere in there is 10 timers better than it used to be! I'll 100% recommend to anyone. Will most certainly be visiting again!

There was confusion with the order at first as the tables had been moved around and the waitress did not know where to deliver the food, but we didn’t wait too long and it was nice when it arrived. Build your own burger for £5 on a Wednesday was excellent value.

Catering food and drink supplier
Nestled on Albert Road in the vibrant area of Southsea, The Royal Albert is a spacious pub that boasts a single bar and a charming "secret" beer garden tucked away at the back. This lively spot serves up an enticing menu featuring delicious food, refreshing beers, and creative cocktails while also showcasing live sports events on their TVs. One highlight is SHROOM, a pop-up experience dedicated to mushroom-based dishes that has drawn in many fans eager to indulge in these culinary delights.
A Joyous Start to Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall Attending John Rutter’s Christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall was the perfect way to kick off the festive season. The atmosphere was magical, with the iconic venue beautifully adorned for Christmas, and the music was simply breathtaking. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was stunning, delivering each piece with precision and heartfelt emotion. Whether it was the soaring strings or the delicate woodwinds, every note felt like a celebration of the season. John Rutter’s joyful energy and interaction with the audience added an extra layer of warmth to the evening. The sing-along carols were a delightful touch, making it feel like a shared festive moment with everyone present. Before the concert, we dined at The Edgar restaurant. While it was conveniently located and saved us the stress of rushing, the experience left something to be desired. The service was fine, but for the price, we expected a higher standard of food and ambiance. It wasn’t bad, just not quite up to the level of the occasion. That said, the concert itself more than made up for it. The combination of festive music, the grandeur of the Royal Albert Hall, and the outstanding performance of the orchestra created a truly memorable evening. If you’re looking for a joyous and inspiring start to your Christmas season, John Rutter’s concert is an absolute must. We left feeling uplifted, festive, and ready for the holidays!

If you want a massive roast which is very reasonably priced and served with a smile, this is a great pub for it! Every time I've been here on a Sunday, I see people going to the kitchen to tell the staff about how lovely their food was which is a wonderful atmosphere, very warm. That being said, I've also been here on nights out and it can be a long wait to get a drink due to how busy it gets however, it's great fun regardless! Keep up the good work guys!
Martyna C — Google review
Decent pub with lovely, friendly staff. Delicious food, nice bright courtyard area for outdoor sitting. Sunday Roasts are popular here and quality meat is always used. Lamb is offered where some places do not offer that option. Different sorts of entertainment on some nights.

Spur of the moment visit . A tardis community pub with colourful outdoor seating area. £12 Freshly cooked Sunday roast drew us in. We had Lamb and Beef both tasted better than they looked and were very good value

Never disappointed with this pub been coming here since it opened and has only got better, like a good wine, lol 10 out 10 again and again consistently on random different days so i mean it's a no brainer if you like good food really reasonably priced and the service you wud expect these days. I've said it before and will say it again, I highly recommend this pub for your Sunday roast or Friday night it's got it all wins for me hand's down

A great pub for karaoke on a Sunday night.

Good grub and grog at reasonable prices. Huge breakfast served all day for £7.50. Could use a little sprucing up inside to get the 5 stars but still worth a visit. Also very central to pretty much everything in Portsmouth/Southsea.
Mark T — Google review
Had Sunday lunch here for the first time recently. Pros: one of the best Sunday roasts we've had for a long time. really well thought out and executed ingredients and cooked properly in the old way. Full marks to the chef! bar service was quick friendly and efficient. you can tell a great deal about a pub by the type of people who go there and all seemed rather decent. Cons: I'm a fan of real ales which are especially complimentary with a good roast. there seemed to be none available. Beer prices are at the upper end of the market for a regular type of pub. Other: the staff aren't too happy if you haven't booked for lunch. I get this but it's always nice to feel appreciated for my custom regardless of protocol

The Admiral Drake is a popular biker-friendly pub serving real ales and simple food. It also regularly hosts live bands. The pub has a pool table, jukebox and dart board as well as a selection of cask ales. It is open 12 PM until late and cash only. The kitchen is currently closed, but this may change in the future.
If you fancy some cheap booze, that's the place. I am sure it's great when there is live music bands but we were here around lunch time just for a drink in mid week, it was very quiet. Available parking and tables to sit outside.

Visited here for a few drinks to end our holiday after getting off the ferry on a Sunday evening. Great no nonsense pub that was very welcoming (Unlike Sovereigns next door, shut at 10pm!) Great prices and looks like they have a good crack with lots of bands will visit again when in the area, hopefully catch a band!

Lovely atmosphere, staff are extremely friendly, the food was poor Had steak and eggs from the breakfast menu, medium rare, the sauce and eggs were beautiful, the steak however was so tough you needed a chainsaw to cut it, Wish I had had the standard breakfast, however the waitress did offer something else if we desired, which was a nice touch, and gave a refund

We came here for the Light/ Dark Beer Festival. Amazing atmosphere and lots of great beer! (apart from the cask reptile dysfunction 🤢 which honest to god is one of the worst beers I've ever tried! Personal preference I guess!) The Taproom is a pretty cool place and if you like your hazy IPAs then this is one for you!

Great drink variety, however paid for the £18 beef brisket slices with chips, coleslaw and bbq sauce. Didn’t receive the coleslaw and had to go back and ask for it, the beef didn’t really look like anything we have seen on the website or other reviews and the bbq sauce pot was barely filled up (as you can see in the photo) . This came with three slices of beef and chips, however only 2 remaining by the time I took the photo. Had we have known what the food was like on the day, we wouldn’t have spent the £18, a bit disappointing.

Interesting place, but not my thing. The ciders are all very maximally weird tasting, very loud. From interesting, it was cool to play on old machines, but on some of them not much worked

The venue features a fantastic function room known as The Barn, which not only hosts regular live music events but is also available for private gatherings.
I'm propper chuffed i chose this pub today! Paid less than £13 for a pint of Staropramen, burger and chips. Made my order and hoped for the best. Recieved a gorgeous burger with perfect chips. Punching WAY above its low price. Can't fault this place. Friendly staff and punters. Pool table & jukebox. Sport if you want it. Surprisingly good selection of beers.

The food was very good and Georgia the barmaid was really lovely.
Lisa W — Google review
Nice atmosphere in the Barn for a gig. The beer was good and not stupidly priced. My only criticism was that they could have done with an extra member of bar staff on the night I visited. The barmaid that was working was great but it took ages to get a beer because she was on her own. I've deducted one star but 100% not blaming the barmaid for this. Would definitely go back though as had a great night.. Also worth mentioning that the security staff were super polite and friendly too..
Stephen P — Google review
Four of use were going to a big at the Barn music venue behind the pub and decided to eat there. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu had so much to choose from. We ordered chicken and bacon wrap with dirty fries, fishcake and chips, steaks and ale pie which came with mash, veg and gravy and fish pie with veg and a huge slice of tiger bread and butter. All prepared fresh on the premises and every mouthful was absolutely delicious and very reasonablly priced. A love!y dining experience and The Barn was a fabulous little music venue. We really enjoyed our evening there.

I've attended a few events now and also pops in now and again for a drink and been there to have food and theres not manh pubs where you can say the food is amazing but here i can and its the landlady that does all the cooking herself so ill take my hat of too her. So i must say I couldn't fault them the atmosphere and the general feeling being there is outstanding the landlady is the unreal and the bar staff are lovely and takes time to to get to know there customers.

We hired the barn for a hen do . Can’t say enough about the staff at this place . During the day when we were setting up at least 3 members of staff came in to offer help and ask if we needed anything . On the evening we were told we had one barmaid , she was amazing , kept up with all the drinks orders and was cheerful and polite , towards the end of the evening other bar staff came into help and once again couldn’t do enough for us . This was on a match day so the pub was full but it didn’t effect the service we received! Great place for private hire . Thankyou very much to all the staff for making our night go perfectly

So booked a table for Sunday dinner when arrived the table was not ready due to them letting people sit at the table, Went for Sunday dinner, the price you see online is not the price they charge you! Then they menu they give you with the price is still not the price they charge you so ended up being charged more.other people at our table ordered the chicken roast which should off been £17 but got charged £19 even tho the menu given said £17 so everyone at the table got charged different prices from everyone els even tho ordered the same food! The food was warm and dry Then when came to dessert had to ask what they was just got told brownie, cheesecake or ice cream so went for the brownie this came out hard and freezing cold straight from fridge to plate not even warm! I could understand more if was busy and rushed off your feet but was dead in there. I get it’s all 2 for 1 but not a place I would go back to again Then the toilets these were vile dirty and smelled like piss that haven’t been cleaned, but after all off this the only good thing to come from this is the staff are all very lovely

Poor experience this evening. Band advertised as playing at 8 but still not on when we left at 8.50. Got to the bar at 7.30 on a Saturday evening but they'd sold out of nearly every beer on tap, and didn't even have ice! Waited for ages to be served, which was no fault of the barman who was amazing and doing his best to deal with loads of demands. A pub that offers live music really needs to have enough staff on and a well stocked bar.

Went to a bottomless brunch today and cannot recommend enough. Food drinks entertainment was brilliant and the staff really looked after us making sure we had a good time .... massive thank you especially to the lovely young lady who kept our glasses topped up ...will definitely be back again

I hired this venue as a leaving party for moving abroad, we booked through the manager at the time who was great but left unexpectedly. The owner did not let us know about this and no one had contacted us about planning our booking. We were told we had the venue from 11 am, so we told guests to come from 1pm as it was a sunny weekend. The beers on tap had mostly gone and the fridges with beer were broken, so there were only two beers available, one of which tasted strange. Spirits and wine were also low or out and we were told by staff that the manager didn’t put a stock order in despite there being two events on this weekend. When we arrived on the day, we also had to clean up the venue ourselves. We ordered food and many of the items on the menu did not arrive, meaning we had too little food and poor alcohol choice. The bar staff and DJ were lovely throughout and made the event bearable, but the owner caused incredible amounts of stress through his poor communication. When we emailed to complain, we were ignored for weeks on end and every phone call either didn’t get picked up or the owner was “busy”. We eventually received a small “good will” refund, but absolutely no recognition nor apology for the incredibly poor showing and management from the owner. Do not host an event at this venue unless you want to be disappointed.

I’ve been coming to this pub for a very long time for various events, gatherings and quiz night. However, never have I seen such disgraceful behaviour from a member of staff in this establishment. Not only was I completely ignored on arrival by said member of staff, I was not alone with the 4 other patrons waiting to be served while this guy stood and had a chat rather than serving. My quiz team and I then witnessed this member of staff have a go at another team member in front of customers, resulting in her bursting into tears. Bless her she continued to work through her tears but it was very clear she was upset. This isn’t the first time I’ve witnessed this sort of behaviour from this particular team member. The place would be much better off without him. On a positive note, the quiz was highly entertaining and we will be back.

Great place We were made to feel very welcome. There were families eating. And dogs were welcome The food was very good. I had fish and chips and my wife is vegan and had katsu curry. All cooked fresh. We will be coming again. Bit difficult to park but we found a place on a road nearby I am disabled and on a powered wheelchair I had no problems getting in and no problems getting round inside.

*Updated - I received a call the next day from the deputy manager to apologise. They had been advised by the staff, the tables had been moved around, earlier that day or during the week. So they were unable to find our table (although they have table numbers attached on silver circular discs). I also received a call a few days later from the manager to also apologies and say the same. Therefore attentive managers, I agree.* The most disappointing service I have had at this venue to date. Placed an order on the app at 1703 at 1745 I went in to ask where it was to be told, I couldn't see a child at the table so your drinks are sat there behind the bar.....so I took the drinks and the food cane out at 1815. At 1850 we moved inside ad it had become chilly, AND we were still waiting for desert. My child was finally provided dessert at 1900. What was intended as a quick pint at 1630 ended up being 8 drink later thanks to the poor service.

On the table today Gakes HSB, Fullers took on Gales but the beer is still potent. Piano in tune although after some HSB sadly my fingers were not....I hit all the right notes not necessarily in the right order or so some wise comedian once said. I like the Eagle. Worth seeking out.

Nestled at the intersection of Fratton Road and Somers Road North, The Froddington Arms stands as a charming local pub with a rich history. Named after the Saxon term for Fratton, which translates to "Frodda's Farm" or "Frodda's village," this establishment has seen various incarnations over the years.
Nice pub with dart boards and footy on the TV

One of their drunk patron was kicking off at me in front of my autistic son for parking in a space by the pub. The sign says all day Sunday , which I thought meant I could park there. But it was the opposite as police told me after. Anyway the drunk patron he threatened to burn the mosque down next door where I just been. And got into his car parked opposite reserved and blocked me in. The patron is a regular as I’ve been told he regularly harasses people that park there so he was upset that I took his space. Anyway the police weren’t that bothered about a drunk driver which I’d witnessed nor the landlord who defaced my car windscreen with lipstick. The landlord over served drunks who drive home after getting hammered. Fact

Well... we didn't even get to try anything, we walked in, went to take a seat and from the first moment the old woman behind the bar with white hair and glasses gave us the worst look ever. We've got uncomfortable straight away and she wouldn't stop staring at us for a few minutes with a really bad look in her eyes against us. We decided to leave as we didn't feel welcome at all and she was the only member of the staff there so she was going to take our drinks and food so no thanks. Pretty racist for 2023 lady, I'd remind you this is not the England of 1830s. And more than 10% of the UK population are immigrants. I'm not even dark skin, I'm yellowish, wondering how she would treat other people.

Only been in there once briefly to pick up a friend however the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was overall quite nice and family friendly feeling. Was only in there for a short time so take what i say lightly but my friend is a regular and loves the place.

Very disappointing. Limited beer, one poor quality keg bitter on sale. Noisy in a bad way, just people shouting, unmusical drunk karaoke. An atmosphere of suppressed drunken violence just waiting to kick off! I needed to sit with my back to the wall. No way you could bring your girlfriend here. I won't be back

The Fawcett Inn, located at the intersection of Fawcett Road and Lawrence Road in Southsea, was constructed in 1878 by Alfred Bone. The inn is named after Lieutenant Alexander Fawcett, who perished during the Indian Mutiny. A portrait of him adorns the pub sign. Visitors can enjoy a delightful Sunday Roast with options like Pork, Beef or Chicken while being served by friendly staff.
Had the shell fish platter and it was amazing. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was great.
Leanne T — Google review
I think I found the best value Sunday lunch in Portsmouth today! I had beef, gammon and chicken; Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, gravy and roasties; peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower cheese and carrot n swede mash. And all for £9.95! They also have great homemade puddings for £2.50 - I had a lovely apple crumble and custard and the others had lemon cheesecake. Plus a large glass of wine is only a fiver. The pub has recently been taken over by new manager Sarah, who was lovely and friendly. It’s a much improved space compared to what it used to be - but it still very much feels like a traditional no-fuss local Southsea pub. We all thought it was lovely home cooked food and I have to say I don’t think I’ve had better value for money in a long time. If you’re gluten free like me, you can also have everything on the roast too which felt like a real treat. Advance booking required (just let them know that you need GF or any other dietary requirements when you book).
Darragh G — Google review
Was in a large group for a Sunday Roast, choice of Pork, Beef or Chicken. Food was delicious, expertly prepared and served at the same time. Extremely lovely management and staff. Seems a very popular place.
Julia M — Google review
Love going to The Fawcett Inn, it's staff and customers are friendly and welcoming, the Sunday roasts are definitely something to try, as well as the other snacks that they make, some friends and I had a few hours in there one night, we all tried something different, the food was freshly prepared, nice size portions too and good price as well. As for the bar prices, I don't think you'll find a pub who can give such a good price as they do, totally surprised on how cheap a double gin and lemonade was, so I had many more. It's LGBTQ friendly and a safe place, so if you're shy or nervous, try not to be, come along to one of their events, relax and chill out with like-minded people. I'm not sure if they do offer some dietry needs, but best speak to a member of staff or the lovely landlady Sarah.

Not sure what it currently going on. A shell of its former self. No atmosphere and not welcoming with groups of lager louts hanging out of the door. Never seems to be any ales on tap anymore. Staff were very friendly though.

Nestled near the picturesque Southsea Seafront, The Florence Arms Gastro Pub & Restaurant is a delightful spot that perfectly blends traditional British cuisine with a modern twist. This charming establishment boasts an impressive selection of cask and craft beers, wines, and cocktails, making it an ideal destination for both casual diners and those looking to indulge in a leisurely afternoon tea. The menu at The Florence Arms features everything from light bites and sandwiches to hearty main courses like succulent steaks and vegetarian options.
A lovely set-back pub away from the bustle of the seafront, really beautifully renovated and clean, and plenty of food and drink options. Our host was by himself but managed to cater for a few table covers capably, and our food and drink got to us in good time, and was excellent. Reasonably priced and well worth anytime time, for a quieter (non-sports) pub experience in the area.

Lovely pub & restaurant, Sunday Roasts are heavenly and a good size, I had the beef. We had a table booked for 1pm and there was no mention of roasts being sold out like I had seen another review mention. Desserts are a little on the pricier side for the portion size in my opinion, and could do with a couple more options to choose from, but other than this I can’t fault my visit. Will definitely return!

Called in at 12pm on a sunny Sunday in June to see if there were tables free. There were. Staff were excellent - attentive but not pushy. Roast beef was so good - best quality beef we've had in years, really tasty carrots, parsnips and cabbage and gravy spot on. Never been before but will certainly go back again.

It's not the first time we have been here, but this certainly will not be the last! We have always enjoyed the food here and found the service to be superb, having returned after a recent refurbishment and menu change, we can confirm everything somehow has improved on what was already excellent. The new interior is warm and super inviting. We all had starters and mains. Here is a selection of some of them. What I didn't get a picture of is the steak my wife and mum had. This was one of the finest pieces of steak I've ever tasted and cooked to perfection! This all made sense as whilst we were eating a local butcher delivery arrived and the owner confirmed they are using locally sourced meat and produce. Get yourself along and try this place out.

WOW our first visit for a Sunday Roast and the vegan and veggie roasts were AMAZING. The quality, quantity and taste were second to none. I had a fabulous alcohol free raspberry gin and there was also a selection of alcohol free beers. The photo shows the veggie option nearest...normally has a huge Yorkshire pudding but we were late in the day so lucky there was anything left at all. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovelies who served us...a credit to the Establishment. Thoroughly recommend a visit here for a roast :)

We have been in here a few times now and always have a great time. The staff are always welcoming. Addison was our server today and he was quite attentive and friendly even bringing our dog a bowl of water. The past 2 visits we were severed by an equally lovely chap (wish I could remember his name) that remembered our order. The food is really nice. Absolutely perfect, we had the most amazing experience from the minute we walked in till we left. The manager and staff were second to none. We were looked after very well. Had a fantastic experience at Kassia in Drayton! From the moment we walked in, the service was quick, friendly, and professional. A special mention has to go to Wayne, the manager—his expertise and thoughtful suggestions really elevated our meal. He clearly knows the menu inside and out and helped us pick some incredible dishes we might have otherwise missed. The food itself was absolutely delicious—full of flavour, beautifully presented, and served promptly. We had a sit down meal early on in the week with some friends having not eaten here before. It was quiet inside, food and service was very good though. We ordered way too much food, tapas and mains.... should have ordered one or the other! But was lovely to pick bits not tried before, great experience. We also found out they cater for takeaways whilst there, so tonight we have had a collected takeaway from Kassia Drayton, extremely good. We now have a new curry house.

The Wedgewood Rooms, located in Portsmouth, is a popular live music venue that showcases both emerging and well-known bands as well as hosts weekly club nights. With a main venue capacity of 400 standing (or 230 seated) and a smaller venue called The Edge with a capacity of 100 standing (or 70 seated), it offers top-quality in-house PA & Lighting in both spaces along with dressing rooms.
Fantastic grass roots venue with both tiny and medium sized stages - if you love music, come here. Toilets cleaner and more modern than many venues of this size, (a far cry in 2025 from what they were like when I first came here in 1992!). The bar is great and staff are friendly, merchants stand is well placed and even when sold out it always feels like a warm and gracious atmosphere; even when lively! As a gig goer for over 30 years, this is still probably my favourite venue.
Martin H — Google review
Well laid out venue , with merchandise room just inside entrance, and bar opposite just beside the stage. Street parking is free after 7 pm , and it takes a small search for space.
Kenneth C — Google review
The best venue in Portsmouth for watching some of your favourite bands. You'll be surprised of the big named groups/artists that play there . I went to see the Nova Twins, it was just awesome.
Martin H — Google review
Music was great but the experience was ruined by the lead security who was extremely rude and unprofessional to my girlfriend making her cry for most of the night and his responses of "it's not my problem" and "I can do what I want I own the building" were disgusting, this all sparked from her being continually moved while trying to speak to a family member regarding a serious personal matter and did not show compassion for her being upset. The smoking area and bars were too loud to hear the call and a suitable place was not suggested. The following day on the second day we were there for golden touch he was extremely rude to her and even laughing at her...

Can’t give 0 stars unfortunately so have had to give 1. Bought tickets to what was advertised as a Freddie Mercury tribute night last night. £5 per head. Was absolutely awful. Event was badly organised, not everyone had paid for tickets, watched loads of people walking in without even being asked for them and spoke to loads who hadn’t paid. Pub was really overcrowded. Singer was atrocious, had stripped down to his sweaty bare chest by the end of the second song and thought it was appropriate to grind his body around anyone in the pub. It was disgusting. Only did an hour of Freddie Mercury and then came out in the second half doing random songs sounding like he was a drunk doing karaoke. Spoke to several regulars who said they had been refunded but when we complained we were refused. Apparently we got an hour so that should be good enough.

The new menu is delicious! We are passing through Portsmouth and staying near by, so was looking for a pub to have some food and drinks where we could also watch the euros. All three ticked and very well indeed! The staff are very friendly and helpful Jack in particular was very lovely and welcoming but honestly they all were! But let’s talk about the food! It’s the first day of their new menu and impressed is an understatement. I had the pulled pork burger which was 10/10 the pork is fresh and so yum! My parents were also super impressed with their food (shepherds pie & baked Camembert) big well done to the chefs for creating such a yummy menu. All round just a lovely pub with great atmosphere a good choice of drinks and lovely (affordable!) food! Highly recommend and if we’re ever back this way we will be sure to come back. Thanks guys

Usually a decent little pub, come here every now and then. Bar staff are lovely, HOWEVER, last night me and few friends went there for a drink and a sing along. But our night was rudely interrupted by some bald guy, originally he tried getting my mate kicked out cause he was vaping (didn’t warn us). We apologised to the bouncers, vaped outside and thought that was it done. We go back in, go to the bar and the bald guy approaches us again, this time threatening us. We ignore this and try to get on with our night, then all of a sudden the bouncers come over and say we have to leave. We went outside as instructed to, we then got told we had to leave as “it’s easier to have the 4 of you leave than him”. While we’re getting told this, the bald guy then came out and threatened us infront of the bouncers but continued to let this individual stay. 3 of the bouncers were good, but the tall one who wouldn’t give his name was very odd. Kept saying stuff like “you wanna chin him”, just kept referencing fighting and we kept saying no. Not ideal, won’t be bringing people here again.

Portsmouth Guildhall is a grand Victorian hall that hosts concerts, comedy shows, and exhibitions. It also serves as a stunning wedding and event venue with elegant interior decor and original features. The venue offers various rooms for ceremonies and receptions, along with beautiful grounds for reception drinks and wedding photos. Known for its impressive architecture and rich history, Portsmouth Guildhall is a top venue for live music, theatre performances, comedy shows, dance performances, and festivals.
Good venue. Audio system is excellent. Only negatives are the seats are small and tend to move too easily when anyone gets up or sits down in your row of seats. Plus there isn't any air conditioning so it can get quite stuffy and hot during a performance.
Tony D — Google review
Had my convocation held here. I felt it was quite warm inside especially when in graduation attire. Very beautiful building. Up keeping it is not to the level. Saw spray painting on walls outside guildhall
Alé N — Google review
A good venue. My only gripe is with the seats in the Upper Stalls. These seat rows need to be placed about an extra inch or so apart to allow for more legroom and comfort. Note also that there is no aisle towards the left most and right most seats there.
Benet U — Google review
Portsmouth Guildhall is more than just a civic building — it’s a cultural landmark filled with history, character, and memories for generations of locals. I first knew it as the place where I celebrated my graduation, and even years later it retains the same charm every time I pass by. The Guildhall sits proudly opposite the City Council, with the Queen Victoria statue standing just in front, adding to the sense of heritage. The square is a lovely spot to pause, sit down, and enjoy a quiet lunch, while taking in the atmosphere of a place that has witnessed countless events, concerts, and milestones in the city’s history.
Abdul Q — Google review
Visited for a Level 42 Concert, the queue system, security, friendliness of staff, and venue itself were spot on. Sure it was overpriced for my liking at the bar - £6.50 for a jd when the restaurant we ate in earlier was £2.50 other than that, it was spot on. no issues. a great venue.

usually have great experiences with guildhall however I do have to say this time wasn’t the best. They hadn’t had enough chairs available so we were shoved on random chairs on the end of the row, the microphones and sounds were shocking.

Nestled at the bustling intersection of Elm Grove and Albany Road in Southsea, The Deco is a vibrant pub that has been captivating locals since its establishment in 1936 by architect AE Cogswell. Known as the go-to spot for rock and alternative music lovers, this lively venue attracts a youthful crowd, particularly students who enjoy its welcoming atmosphere and special discounts for RN personnel.
Thought to drop a review as they just completed a renovation- same great staff and great music, now with an even cleaner/crisper(?) look and feel. Highly recommend popping in and trying one of their very reasonably priced beers, or something from their list of cocktails. One of the most welcoming bars in Portsmouth, I always bring my very diverse friends here and everyone is always welcomed!

Went here for a 21st birthday party, and it didn't disappoint. Music was brilliant, atmosphere was amazing and the pool table was free. The biggest plus for me were the cocktails, 12 in total and all taste great. Staff are always smiling and there was no trouble there at all.
Craig W — Google review
They play shouty metal music, on request they might play what you want, then go straight back to shouty metal death music. They have a pool table and the chalk is pointless.

Portsmouths greatest rock bar! Spent many nights here and made life long friends along the way. This bar is a great place to listen to some of the best heavy music and drink some of the funkiest drinks. Highly recommend
Samuel C — Google review
Really good place for a drink .. I'm 44 and felt chilled in the environment. Staff are nice the drinks are sooo cheap and it's a really mixed bag of people. There was zero stress on a busy sat night and the security team were really nice. Overall I'd go again :) .. not just for the 5 pound cocktails and free pool table!! ;)

I've been to The Deco a few times now with friends, it's recommended to take a form of photo id to get entry especially at the weekends, the staff are lovely, the music is alternative, so if you're expecting chart or pop music, this is not the place that you're going to hear it in. I remember when it was The Elms back in the 80's, and it was known as a alternative pub back then.

Went here the other night and we had the best time! We were served by the nicest girl ever called Kiera, she was so helpful and so funny and we honestly had such a good night because of her. Honestly cannot thank her enough for being such a great hostess and we will definitely be back solely for her!! Usually you can’t get two words or a smile from someone behind the bar but this girl honestly went above and beyond and it made such a great and positive difference!

Great place special 80s music 🎶 night 🌙 on Monday. After midnight it was fancy dress as Stranger Things 4. I went as Hopper. It's great sitting outside talking to loads of young people I was with my wife, Son and Daughter. I'm 61 and born in 61, but that didn't bother anyone, I still had to show my ID lol . Door staff were great 👍 stopping trouble before it came in.. Arrived at 11:30 and park on the street outside. Great crowd mainly locals as students have gone home 🏡.8 A special mention to Eagle eyeyed KARL who spotted 👀 me in the photos 📸. Just to let you know that this is a great place. Well never got to enter the place because i didn’t have id and 47 year old women are TROUBLE . Didn’t let it ruin my night but heard good things about albert rd last year after some locals we met in gun wharf Quays said it was the place to be. We came back this year and did Albert Rd but wouldnt recommend the one eyed dog . I’m a chilled lady of 47 with no ID but was made to feel like trouble despite doing absolutely nothing other than attempting to frequent their bar 🤷‍♀️ shame really as we’d had an ok night prior to this . However last year around gunwharf Quays felt friendlier and people were just chatty and chilled ☺️ *** WOW just read recent reviews, when bars are struggling maybe check reviews and get rid of the obviously bad staff. On a good note glad it’s not just me, as it did feel a bit poop after doormen wouldn’t let us in at 8 in the evening 🤷‍♀️ and only reason was at 47 i didn’t have ID 🙄😅

Blamed my friend for something he didn't do because he has face tattoos.. discrimination and weak excuses. Took our money then said you can't drink here. Do not come here if you're alternative. Weak and stupid bar staff.. do not come here if you do not conform. Took our money then said we weren't welcome. I'd give this pub a negative score if I could.
Paul M — Google review
Absolutely disgusted at the security working for the one eyed dog,I had accidentally bumped into a girl on the dance floor as the place was completely packed it was over crowded and it couldn’t be helped,I apologised to her but she instantly looked at me with disgust and so did her friends,I asked her what was wrong and that I was sorry but she had a problem with me since this moment, things escalated between us and we were told to leave I completely understand that part. When me and my friend got outside the front we were manhandled by security, one security guard with long hair from what I remember a large build with awful hygiene slammed me to the ground causing my head to bleed and blood to come out of my ear,he put his knee on my neck with all his weight restricted my passage for breath,I could not breathe and I kicked and tapped him until my body went lifeless,he took his knee of just in time before I passed out and then scarpered into the building,I was seconds from what felt like death. I’m a 9 stone 5ft6 female and the force used was completely unacceptable.your friends and family will not be safe in the hands of this man. I’m left with trauma, and damage to my jaw, neck and head, this will absolutely be going so much further and I need answers asap. My friend cannot remember anything that happened to her but her phone was smashed and she woke up very achy and also has a really sore neck.

Located in Emsworth, near a small village, The Kings is situated on the edge of town. It offers opportunities for leisurely walks along the beach or around the mill pond. For those seeking a countryside escape, a short drive will lead you to beautiful rural landscapes. This traditional pub, featured in the quiet pint guide, presents an atmosphere free from jukeboxes and instead focuses on its rich history.
Had a private party in the loft, it's now looking a lot better in there with a new dance floor and the toilets are looking a lot better. Friendly bar staff and decent beers upstairs (although only the premium beer) so a touch expensive but you can always go grab a beer downstairs. I would highly recommend this as a venue.

Went in on my own to see the new refurbishment, was cosy and clean, and both bar staff were lovely, unfortunately I was served wine in a really filthy glass, which was rectified right away when I asked for a new glass and staff were apologetic, lighting is quite low so I think an honest mistake

Went here for a gig on Friday. Smart little pub downstairs, under a tenner for a pint and a large wine so I was dead happy. Upstairs the venue was great, proper decent grungey music room, lots of stickers and graffiti. Sound quality was very good, briefly met the manager who was a really good chap. Bit weird that the upstairs bar mostly sold cans but got a decent pint of Neck Oil. Will definitely go back.

We held an event, upstairs in the iconic Loft bar. Shaun and the whole team welcomed us and really looked after us. We feel safe & welcome in this pub, great place, great people. We can't wait to attend & run more events!

Had a trip to Southsea (Saturday)and decided to visit a few local bars, Kings was mentioned to us and we were pleased when we got in there that they had karaoke on we grabbed a table and drinks then the karaoke started and after a couple of songs we decided to put a couple of songs up as not many takers being early on. We waited and waited then as more people got in we seem to be forgotten about, my wife spoke to the host who then said he couldn’t find my wife’s ticket and would put my song up but then came over and said he didn’t have my song. Clearly looking out for the bigger groups and locals so we won’t be going back there next time. We left and enjoyed a few of the other pubs around the area. Guys on the door were great and very polite especially Damien 👏🏼👏🏼. Gents toilet downstairs could do with a little attention, not a great site with tiles of the wall and a hole in the ceiling. Bar staff were also great.

Booked a table at this lovely bar and restaurant, what a experience. Had a drink in the bar first, great service and lovely atmosphere, then went into the restaurant. We ordered Thai fishcakes and prawn cocktail for starters, really well presented and very tasty, and main course was house burger with fries, and chicken pork pie and side vegetable. Very big portions and very well presented and exceptionally tasty, great service too. 3 drinks ,starters and mains £51 . Great price

Used to have the reputation of the most expensive pub in North End. It is now one of the cheapest. Can't go wrong for a £2.55 pint of Doombar 👍 (03.11.2023). Usually has at least one pump pulled ale on the ready, with most of the popular larger's and cider's on tap, or bottled, in the fridge. A locals pub, which is very welcoming to outsiders like us, who have moved into the area. Just pub snacks, so the two stars on food, isn't really a fair reflection, as the snacks are of great variety and always well topped up. Great local boozer.... Need I say more....👍
James C — Google review
We thought we would have a lunchtime drink here. We ordered our drinks and sat down, the pub was fairly busy. There were two people behind the bar serving when a Mac Donald s delivery came in and passed over the bar, the two people then got out their food and started to eat it on the bar. A customer had to wait untill they pulled off the monopoly stickers. Will not be going back.

Nice revamp for the area! Was advised about gin and which mixer. Would be amazing if they had fever tree and also some local gins / local bands and events on to make the place feel more down to earth and less like the Clarence. Loved the atmosphere and liked the new staff.
Finnuala Q — Google review
Great refit! Great team heading the newly refurbished pub to be honest… I can overlook the glasses piling up on the bar and none being collected; it’s a fresh team. But INCONSISTENCIES already mean several disappointing visits. On a Sunday they told the whole garden at 1030pm that was it and pub closed. No notification. No last orders. And then the table the landlord had been sitting at was allowed to order again? People get upset about this sort of thing… Weekends open till 12… hmmm? Well sometimes the door staff let you in and sometimes as of tonight at 11.02pm they stop entry. That’s fine there’s enough other pubs open to 12 and 1 around them. The FOUNTAIN is great and Wetherspoons if you really want entry at 12.45pm… but why 11pm some inconsistent nights?? Have a suspicion this pub will get better and better but inconsistency means currently 3 out of 5

This is now the worst pub in North end. I had the most disgusting pint of beer in here 2/2/24. Stupidly over priced (£9 for a cider + a real ale) aswell and the staff were busy munching on kebabs instead of serving. Shame because they had live music but I won't ever go in here again and I won't be recommending the place! Another pub that will close, but in this case look at yourselves!!

David T — Google review
Nice pub indeed.
Allen C — Google review
A little gem of a pub that I'm thrilled to have found! Despite living around the corner for nearly two years I had never really ventured into the Nell. It was recommended to me by a friend and I thought I would give it a go. So glad I listened! Amy the landlady is lovely and so welcoming, all the staff and the locals are warm and friendly and the pub has a strangely modern feel to it whilst remaining traditional. Great range of drinks at very good prices and even my dog is welcome! They have made a loyal customer of me in just three visits. I would much rather spend my money in there than in a chain pub or bar, and I will be encouraging all my friends to do the same. Looking forward to earning my title of "regular" customer!

Great pub for pre match beers. Good Pompey crowd. Excellent service, very quick given how busy it was.
Roger C — Google review
When I found out The Nell was going to be taken over by the same guy that runs the Old House At Home I was excited for it. For years this pub had been neglected and I knew that soon it would be turned around. I visited on opening day on 20th May and a fair few of my friends came down to see the refurbished Southsea pub. We were all made to feel welcome, the place was spotless and there were so many drinks to choose from at really good prices. Looking forward to seeing the live music that's coming up. Definitely a good place to meet up with friends.

Been in here a couple of times since it has been taken over. Before it was dark and depressing but since being taken over it’s so clean and friendly and they have started to get bands back in.I can see this place doing well.

Genuine pub which always has well kept real ales on tap. Landlord Paul puts on live music on when he can and the Alley Cats open mic night is on twice a month. I’m very lucky to live a short walk from this friendly pub.

It is surrounded by other traditional pubs like The Junction Tavern, The Foresters Arms, and The Gypsy Queen. Always a warm welcome as you walk through the door! Service with a smile and great conversation with both old and new friends. Four legged friends welcome and just as spoiled. Fabulous place for a catch up. Lovely garden where BBQs held during the summer and entertainment provided several times each month, including DJs and karaoke! 🎤🎶 The staff also cater for special events, such as McMillan Coffee ☕ Morning, birthdays 🎂🎈 etc. All you have to do is ask!!
Jane A — Google review
Small but lively pub with jukebox and a garden. Service was quick.
Lyndsay B — Google review
Not a very clean pub and a very old and tired pub. Very small and the table we was sitting at was right center and next to the toilet entrances which we had to keep closing the doors when sat at the table were people was going in and out which was very annoying when you are trying to relax and have a quiet drink. We could of moved but the pub being so small no room round the other side of the bar. The chairs wasn't clean the garden was tatty and need a good revamp . I know this is a very old pub in the area and is struggling to keep open but some updating is to be needed. As for the staff they were very friendly and made us feel welcome. It's a shame because this could be a lovely little pub for the area if they give it in some thought into the decor and furniture.

Having only frequented this pub a couple of times I was delighted to discover its lovely garden recently.. Lots of lovely vibes & sm8ling faces. Will definitely be popping in again soon. There are a couple of other local traditional pubs close by. The Junction Tavern. The Foresters Arms & of course, The Gypsy Queen. There are various local businesses, including florists & convenience stores in the area that are always friendly & welcoming. Offering convenience foods including potatoe milk! (Fortified Tea) & cold convenience foods, freshly made and delicious, If you love your history, the Beautiful cemetery (Victorian) is a peaceful place to meander, Highly recommend this area 💜

Went to a friends 70th Birthday, I think the staff coped very well as it was busy all night. We had party food and a curry, I think I spent about £20 on drinks,, I was quite pleased with that.

Has live entertainment every Saturday Night (and also on Sundays Bank Holiday Weekends), Showing all Sky Sports (although the football is favoured by the locals and takes priority before other sports) With 2 Darts Boards, a Pool Table, and modern Juke Box which is free for all every Friday Night and all day Sundays. Theres also a meat raffle at 4pm every Sunday where the various prizes are purchased locally from a traditional quality butcher This pub is clean, friendly and fun and serves a good choice of beers, wines, ciders, spirits, and soft drinks at competitive prices. Popped in before Warriorfest last weekend. Really excellent proper pub. Staff were really really friendly and keen to chat about drinks. 3 Ales, London Pride, Ghost Ship and Sharps Atlantic - really good tasting and good price - £3.30. Comfortably the best pub in The Hard area.

Went in on a Monday for a few drinks before a concert at the Portsmouth Guildhall. Served straight away by a friendly chatty member of staff and massive bonus. Free pool too. Nice relaxed friendly atmosphere.
Stephen B — Google review
The food is absolutely BANGING! Cheeky couple feeds wasnt expecting much, good pub food was the highest expectation... Blew that expectation out the water like a Japanese Submarine, fries that'd leave a chippies wife's knickers moist and a burger to make the chicken proud, The fish was fresher the Bel-air, might as well have gone diving with a deep sea fryer, Highly recommend
Alex N — Google review
Recently refurbished and they have made a good job of it. Drinks are a good price for the location that it is in and not as packed as the other pubs just round the corner. Well worth a visit.
