Castle
Schloss St. Emmeram, Thurn und Taxis is a grand Rococo palace complex built on the site of a Benedictine monastery in Regensburg, Bavaria. This historic town, which was once the first capital of Bavaria and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, boasts attractions like the stunning Regensburg Cathedral, patrician towers, and stone bridge.
What a magical Christmas market! We received discount admission vouchers from our hotel, shout out to Hotel Das Regensburg😉(and it was a very short walk). There are so many beautiful lights at night. Many food and gluwien options. Great handmade items for sale as well. Definitely worth the admission price. Don't miss this one!

Palace was much larger than I had anticipated and much more grand than I thought. Beautiful polished marble columns, statues and mosaic floors. Even though the tour is only in German, they provided my wife and I audio guides so that we could follow along and learn the history of the palace and the family that is still living there.
Philip S — Google review
LONG tour (90min) in German only and they are weird about taking photos. There are only a couple of German tours daily so plan ahead. The tour provides pretty basic audio guides in English. It IS odd to an American to keep hearing about German princes and princesses in the present tense, as well as 'princely' this and that. The old town bus does not loop even remotely close by, for unknown reasons. Once you're on the tour you're stuck for the duration. (I'm not much of a tour person). The tour areas inside are not air conditioned. Regensburg old town is fairly small but expect a full day of walking to and from everything.
Kate J — Google review
dated to the 19th century, a very strict guided tour allows you to see a part of the castle and Monastery. the tour costs 16€, in german and with audio guide for english speakers. the guide is very friendly and gives a lot of infos. you pass from the dinnerroom to fiesta hall to sleeping room to the chapel and then you take the stairs down to the monastery hallways with gothis arcades until the Court church. very impressive, dont forget to buy the guiding book since photography is not allowed.

A brilliant guided tour of the castle, unfortunately you can not take photos inside. Our guide was excellent, her English perfect. We were also incredibly lucky to be able to use the stables venue for a party, it's only permitted to be used twice a year!!

St. Peter Cathedral, a magnificent example of High Gothic architecture, stands proudly in the heart of Regensburg, dominating the skyline with its impressive bell towers. Originally constructed around 700 and later rebuilt in 1273 after a fire, this stunning cathedral is not only an architectural marvel but also home to the renowned Regensburger Domspatzen choir.
Amazing place to Visit. Such an incredible architectural work. But if you need to go inside, you have to see their religious activities time. Because at that time doors were closed to the visitors.every thing was fine and tremendous work and were well maintained to the future generation.
Kasun A — Google review
St. Peter’s Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking. The Gothic architecture is stunning, with soaring spires, intricate stonework, and beautiful stained glass windows that create a peaceful, awe-inspiring atmosphere inside. It’s hard not to be impressed by the history and craftsmanship. Even if you’re not typically into churches, this one is worth the stop. It’s right in the heart of Regensburg, so very easy to visit while exploring the old town. Highly recommend taking a few quiet moments inside—truly a highlight of the city.
Todd R — Google review
Massive pure Gernan gothic church that was built from the end of the 13th to the beginning of the 16th century using the architecture of French cathedrals as an example. The inside is dark and has beautiful details like the silver altar. The stained glass windows from the 13th and 14th century are impressive and the most extensive, still preserved, collection of medieval stained glass in the German-speaking world. An interesting detail was a large waterwell with a hoist and bucket inside the church which was used as a secure source of water for the clergy, cathedral staff and cleaning.
Seimen B — Google review
Learned so much about German history from our Viking excursion to Regensburg Cathedral. Stepping into this medieval masterpiece, we were instantly awed by its towering Gothic architecture and the sheer scale of the place. The amazing stained glass windows, glowing with centuries-old craftsmanship, were absolutely breathtaking. Our guide wove fascinating tales about the cathedral’s medieval sculptures and its historical significance as a key center of Christianity in Europe, making the past feel alive and vibrant. The world’s largest hanging organ was a true marvel, suspended like something out of a dream, and its presence added to the cathedral’s awe-inspiring atmosphere. Learning about the Regensburg bishopric’s influence gave us a deeper appreciation for the city’s role in shaping European history. This cathedral is a must-see for anyone visiting Regensburg—its beauty and stories will leave you speechless. Highly recommend making time for this incredible landmark!
Regis K — Google review
Great experience. Today was the 75 anniversary of Caritas and St. Josef Hospital celebrated with bishop Rudolf and former cathedral choir member (Regensburger Domspatzen). Usually the holy mass is starting on Sundays at 10 a.m. Be early enough there to get a place!
Francesco — Google review
Our tour guide told us this cathedral is always under some kinds of construction in one form or another 🤣 While we were here the towers were in repair and there’s a choir outside make Ng beautiful music.

Incredible cathedral in the heart of Regensburg. Beautiful architecture and stained glass windows. Free entry.

Nestled in the heart of Regensburg's Old Town, Porta Praetoria stands as a remarkable testament to ancient Roman engineering and history. Erected in 179 AD, this monumental gateway once served as the northern entrance to the Roman military camp known as Castra Regina. Constructed from robust limestone blocks, it not only highlights the architectural prowess of its time but also offers visitors an intriguing insight into Regensburg's rich heritage.
We preserved old Roman area and wall in Regensburg Altstadt. Various explanation signs relay history of this area . Several tourist groups have this as a destination stop on their Regensburg Germany city tours. Free Handicapped doable. When in Regensburg, you must go see the Porta Praetoria. It is a gate preserved from Roman times. From what I understand, this was the Northernmost gate to the Danube River. It is only partially preserved but it is still such a cool sight to see when you are walking down the street and you see it. For me, it's always as great to see it as it was the very first time that I came across it, purely by chance. There is so much Roman history here. This city is so cool. It is located right behind the Regensburg Cathedral ( The Regensburg Dom). So, you make sure that you are on Domplatz then keep on walking, following the curve of Domplatz, it will curve to the right. Follow it, and the street becomes Krautermarktstraße. When you reach the end, turn right and you will be on Goliathstraße. Stay on it and it becomes Unter den Schwibbögen. You will immediately see the big Porta Praetoria to your right.
Mar Z — Google review
If you are expecting to see very much Roman-era building works here in Germany, you're probably going to be disappointed. Yes, they should be properly preserved and documented. But you will only see a very few stones in the outline of a gateway that look exactly like the photos. Cool, but not particularly destination-worthy on their own. I heard a guide tell someone that Pope Benedict used to live there. Not sure where they got that gem from (he didn't). Certainly worth a quick look-see if you're already in town.
Kate J — Google review
There is not much left of what once was a gate like the Porta Negra in Trier. Now the remains are incorporated in the buildings around. The gate was built in 179 CE as the northern gate to the Roman legionary fortess Castra Regina. In a Roman Military camp (castra) this was the main gate leading to the praetorium which was the commanders headquarters or residence. Hence the name.
Seimen B — Google review
a partly preserved roman gate north of the Alps and known also as the watergate, due to its location near the Danube river. made of Corinthian limestone. only part of it is visible for visitors.
David A — Google review
If you're a history buff, you've got to see this. Got to love those! Romans.
Francine J — Google review
It was restored based on the remains of some of the Roman gate. Therefore, if you know the historical meaning of this, you will take it meaningfully, but you don't know it, you can only see it just as a building. It is located in the old town.
Park J — Google review
This Roman gate from the 2nd Century was built during the reign of Marcus Aurelius in 179 A.D.. An unexpected gem on our walking tour. Stone blocks laid without mortar 2000 years ago that they unearthed during a wall renovation in 1885.

The Old Stone Bridge, also known as Steinerne Brucke, is a historic medieval bridge in Regensburg, Germany. Constructed in the 1100s in Romanesque style, it spans 300m over the Danube River with its impressive 16 arches. For over 800 years, it served as the city's sole river crossing and played a crucial role in trade and government activities.
Visited on Sunday and was so busy at that time on the bridge. so stunning views and the wind come from the Danube river make so much of a pretty environment there. The perfect place to stay and enjoy your vacation day. The river bank of the Danube is so stunning in the afternoon.
Kasun A — Google review
Regensburg is a charming old city and this bridge is its emblem. It was built over 800 years ago. It offers splendid sights over the Danube. Lots of people go there, as well as on a picnic around it on the banks of the river. There are ducks living around too.
Nikola C — Google review
Regensburg is a romantic and a very beautiful city. The bridge area is a very dynamic area with a lot of people, many souvenir shops, terraces of all kinds. The atmosphere in summer is super pleasant.
Monica A — Google review
Part of the "Old town Regensburg and Stadtamhof" UNESCO world heritage, this bridge is one of the must-see sites in Regensburg! You can get a beautiful view of the city when crossing it and a stroll over it can be combined with several different pathways around the city. No cars or other motored vehicles are allowed on the bridge - but bicyclists do sometimes speed over it. So, be careful and walk on the edges ideally!
Stefan H — Google review
We visited Regensburg for the 2024 Christmas market season. The old town is very walkable. We were able to visit all the Christmas markets on foot including the small market just across the bridge. We had the best pork sandwich with horseradish at this tiny market. One of the best things we ate during our 9 day Christmas market trip. Took this beautiful photo from the bridge.
Deanna W — Google review
A beautiful bridge built in the Middle Ages with many arches across the Danube river. On both side of the river are the many tourist attractions and eateries. We came during some kind of festival and so fun to see so many people dressed up in the traditional clothings.

Haidplatz is a picturesque triangular square located in the heart of Regensburg's Old Town. This historic square has been witness to medieval jousting tournaments and is home to the impressive Golden Cross, an early Gothic castle with origins dating back to the 13th century. The area surrounding Haidplatz is easily walkable and offers accommodations in historic buildings, providing convenient access to major attractions such as St. Peter Cathedral.
Wish we had more time to visit Passau. We were pleasantly surprised with this magnificant city and all the history. Lovely restaurants and shops to choose from.
Magda K — Google review
Haidplatz is one of the most beautiful squares in Regensburg, and walking around it really captures the city’s positive and welcoming atmosphere. I loved just strolling here, surrounded by the historic buildings and lively cafés—it feels like the heart of a perfect European old town. Interesting fact: Haidplatz is one of Regensburg’s oldest squares, dating back to the Middle Ages, and it used to be a popular venue for tournaments and knightly games in the 14th and 15th centuries. Today, instead of jousts, it’s full of culture, cafés, and events, but it still keeps that historic charm.
Get-nabla — Google review
Beautiful town square in Regensburg. There’s a Christmas market here in December which is a must see.
Hannah M — Google review
Definitely check this place out!! The oldest running restaurant in the world!! The wurst and kraut is AMAZING! You can’t beat it! We sat outside next to the river. Afterwards we walked up to the bridge and grabbed ice cream, and then walked all around the village. There are SO many cute shops for shopping and things to be seen. Don’t worry about getting lost, everywhere you go will be picturesque! Also, check out the cathedral! It is quite impressive. And you can go inside! It’s so beautiful and reminds me of a mini Notre dame!
Hailey F — Google review
Haid: Comes from the Middle High German word "Heide," meaning an uncultivated field or meadow. Platz: The German word for "square" or "place". Therefore, Haidplatz directly refers to the "Meadow Square" or "Field Square," a name that reflects its historical origins as an open, undeveloped expanse
Rita P — Google review
It's a town square, one of many in Regensburg. It's nothing special, but it has nice colored houses surround it. Many cafes and restaurants.
Paul H — Google review
Haidplatz is a triangular shaped public square in the heart of Regensburg that dates back to the Middle Ages. Here you'll find impressive buildings that are enjoyable to see while sightseeing around the city centre. We visited during December when the square was hosting the Lucrenzia Christmas Market, seeing a handful of stalls setup selling gluhwein, traditional holiday foods and a small assortment of seasonal items and decorations. That added to the nice atmosphere of this particular square in Regensburg

The House of Bavarian History is a captivating museum showcasing the rich history of Bavaria through over 1,000 exhibits, including gilded sleds and carriages once owned by King Ludwig II. The museum, which opened in 2019, has received acclaim for its modern architecture and covers an expansive 2,500 square meters. Visitors can enjoy multimedia displays that bring the history of Bavaria to life.
Excellent museum. Every first Sunday like today and also because of the Regensburg Marathon the entrance was free. Very interesting place with many different exhibitions, temporary like one on Emperor Kaiser Ludwig I but also the permanent on the history of Baviera and its many facets as you can see clearly from the pictures, from Napoleonic wars to the different emperors, to sports or political life in the state, different experiences with politics or Nazism, literature or other cultural practices. It seems to me that it gives a very good and complete picture of what Bavaria is and was and of its many faces like a huge mosaic. Also well designed for kids, families and it has for everyone something. Also accessible for handycapped persons, has a library, lockers and a restaurant is next to it with a nice terrace.
The E — Google review
We went there on Sunday with our baby. It was really nice if you really like history. But it's so boring for our baby. It's really not child friendly. The building has elevator, which is helpful for our stroller.
Annisa Z — Google review
Awesome museum to learn about the rich history of Bavaria. The museum also has English translations on the exhibits. Highly recommend visiting here if you love history or wish to know more about Bavaria.
A. T — Google review
Initially, I so disliked the outside of the museum, I resisted going, but once I visited, I just loved it. The permanent exhibits are very well done and accessible to English-speakers. The displays are often interactive and engaging - it is a very modern museum - and I learned so much about the area!
Laura L — Google review
This is a very good museum, that helps to understand the history of Germany and Bavaria within - most displays in German and English. Very wide ranging, from royalty, to industry, to beer, and things like playing cards - which are particularly interesting. Could have spent twice as long there. High recommended.
Nick H — Google review
A really great modern museum, from its building to interactive exhibitions. Texts both in German and English, for the Baroque exhibition also in Czech. A lot of interactive elements and kids' trails (in German) that add on to the experience.
Lenka V — Google review
This museum presents a lot of opinion as fact. In addition it feels like most exhibits are purely pro-independence propaganda. I would not recommend for anybody not personally invested in Bavaria as an independent country.

The large hall was originally built as a ballroom for the city of Regensburg and then used for the so-called perpetual Reichstag from 1668 to 1803. Today the hall serves its original purpose again and is used by the city of Regensburg, for example for receptions or concerts. An old Romanesque monastery with a wonderfully impressive gate. This Romanesque beauty is to the west of the old town of Regensburg and has a magnificently grotesque gateway. The interior of the church still preserves much of the old Romanesque feel and it is quite different to the high Gothic of the cathedral or the Baroque splendour of other churches in the town. It is often quite quiet and well worth visiting if you enjoy Romanesque churches.

POSITIVE: + Historical significance: Opened in 1889 as a meter-gauge narrow-gauge railway from Regensburg to Donaustauf, later extended to Wörth. It originally served to improve access to Walhalla, the temple of King Ludwig I. It was an important link for passenger and freight transport in the region, especially for visitors, quarry operations, and local businesses. The line was 23.4 km long, with a maximum gradient of 33 ‰, technically challenging for the time. + Folk culture charm: The nickname "Walhallabockerl" testifies to local ties and fond memories. Many Regensburg residents associate the railway with childhood memories, excursions, and family stories. The railway ran through picturesque towns such as Tegernheim, Donaustauf, Bach, and Wiesent, which also made it scenically attractive. NEGATIVE: - The railway was finally closed in 1968, which many considered a loss for the region. - Unfortunately, there is no tourist replica or museum railway today, although there would be interest. CONCLUSION: A brief glimpse into the past that can be beautifully integrated into a city tour.

When you visit Regensburg, don't miss the breathtaking postcard view from the Steinerne Brucke, or Stone Bridge. This remarkable structure, built in the 12th century, boasts 16 arches that gracefully span the Danube River. As you take in the panoramic sights of Altstadt's rooftops and spires, you'll appreciate how this engineering marvel once connected northern Europe to Venice, transforming Regensburg into a bustling trading hub.

The Altes Rathaus Regensburg, or the Old Town Hall, is a captivating blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture that stands as a testament to the city's rich history. Dating back to the early 14th century, this remarkable structure was once the heart of civic life in Regensburg and hosted significant events like the Imperial Diet of the Holy Roman Empire from 1663 to 1806.
Awesome tour! I attended the German tour at 1200, and used a device that gave English translations at each stop. There is an English tour available at 1400, but I didn’t have time to wait for that one. Very awesome experience and beautiful scenes to witness in person. I highly recommend to all history lovers to attend this tour. Well worth the 7.5 Euro.

Rathaus is one of the most historically significant buildings in Regensburg. With its origins dating back to the 13th century, it served not only as the seat of the city council, but also as a key political centre of the Holy Roman Empire. From 1663 to 1806, its Reichssaal hosted the Perpetual Imperial Diet (Immerwährender Reichstag) – a unique institution of European diplomacy. Today, the building combines Gothic and Baroque elements and houses a museum that offers guided tours through the historic council chamber, courtroom, prison cells and interrogation room. The Altes Rathaus complex is accessible via guided tours which generally run between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with extended hours to 5:00 PM in the peak season (April–October). Tours commonly start at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30, 14:00, 15:00 and 15:30. Guided tours are usually conducted in German—English tours are available by prior arrangement through the local tourist office.

the 400 dating rathaus maybe older. a very good english guided tour and the guide is funny, well informed and gave clear informations about the building. you will start from the counsel room of the 7 leaders till the meeting room and then the great ceremony Hall. you will then get downstairs to the dark side of the building with well preserved interogation rooms and tools with prison cells and the canons in the backyard market. interesting tour for the whole family. entrance os 7.5€ and duration around 1 - 1.20.

We visited on friday, while there were wedding parties going on, so we couldn’t tour the whole townhall. We saw only the cellars with the torture chambers, despite that the tour was amazing and the tour guide very kind and friendly. There is an english tour at 14:00, however audio guides are available for every tour at the information centre.

St. Emmeram's Abbey, also known as Schloss Thurn und Taxis, is a historical site in Regensburg, Germany. Founded in the 7th century as a monastery, it was later converted into a palace for the Thurn und Taxis family. The abbey complex features a Romanesque basilica with Baroque interior and includes the remains of the 13th-century Herzogshof.
An ancient, very beautiful and worth seeing basilica, away from mass tourism, built around 780 as the church of St. Emmeram, during the following centuries it was expanded and made a princely abbey in 1731. In 1964 it was finally elevated to the status of a “minor basilica” by Pope Paul VI. Beautifully designed inside, definitely have a look!
Alex S — Google review
One of the most interesting historic churches we visited recently in Regensburg is that St. Emmeram, a Basilica minor located at Emmeramsplatz next to the Thurn and Taxis Palace. The church history dates back to 780AD and is considered a National Shrine in Bavaria. There are quite a few interesting things to see at St. Emmeram. The church is a mixture of Romanesque and Baroque architecture. The main portion of the church nave dates back to the 8th-century but was given a High Baroque makeover by the regionally important Bavarian architects Asam Brothers in the early 18th-century. The high altar, pulpit, ceiling fresco and numerous decorations with gilding create a beautiful interior. There is a 11th-century crypt with important tombs in the back that is worth a quick visit. Given the church age, its worth reading up on its history before or during your visit. This will help create context to what you are seeing at St. Emmeram Basilica in Regensburg.

A brooding and beautiful church building in a wealthy monastery. Filled with lavish tombs in the dark Baroque splendour, this monastery church is peaceful, creepy, and wonderful all at once. The preserved corpses of saints in glass coffins make it a little macabre, but for those who are into it, it is well worth visiting.

Set within a former monastery dating back to 1221, this museum offers an impressive array of artifacts that span from the Stone Age to contemporary times. Visitors can marvel at Roman relics that highlight Regensburg's significance as a key Roman stronghold, alongside medieval treasures that showcase its role during the Holy Roman Empire.

Nice museum shared with the church attached to it. It's very good on the prehistoric time of Regensburg and then jumps to Roman and Medieval times. The Roma period in Regensburg is well represented. The Medieval period is rather "laconic" and centred on religious history. A good visit if in Regensburg.

divided in 3 floors: ground floor flr the roman era and prehistoric era with history of germanic-roman people and relation with the city. first floor for the medieval life of the people in regensburg, the second floor is a collection of christian relics and paintings from regensburg artists also from the medieval ages. there's a church also but only to be visited from Easter till October, the museum is on the ground of an old gothic Monastery but you can greatly follow the History of Regensburg.

The history museum of Regensburg is located in a former church (dates back to early 13th century) presents the history of art and culture in Regensburg and Bavaria since stone age to the 19th century. There are 3 exhibitions, prehistory, Roman and middle ages. There are numerous astonishingly beautiful artifacts in each room. In addition to that, the church area is still well reserved and amazing. This is a must visit in Regensburg. The entrance is 5 euros and free entry on 1st Sunday of the month

Established in 1970, this museum has dedicated itself to preserving works from artists linked to former German cultural regions across Central and South-Eastern Europe.
I discovered this gallery by chance on my way to the city west of Regensburg, and I was thoroughly impressed. The exhibition of illustrations based on Kafka’s works was exceptional, showcasing a remarkable selection of artists and imaginative interpretations. It’s one of the most inspiring exhibitions I’ve seen this year. I couldn’t resist buying a book of the illustrations as a keepsake. A must-visit for art lovers!

The Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady Regensburg is an extremely old Catholic church located in Regensburg, Bavaria. The church has been in use for over a thousand years and is one of Bavaria's oldest places of worship.
This is the oldest church in Bavaria, built in the early medieval era and redesigned in the Baroque age. The interior features Rococo art at its finest. There is an internal fence for security but it doesn't obscure the views. The side chapel has no fence and had stunning rococo art adorning its ceiling.

The Roman Catholic Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Old Chapel (short: Collegiate Church of the Old Chapel or Old Chapel) on the Old Kornmarkt in Regensburg is the main church of the collegiate monastery of Our Lady of the Old Chapel, the oldest existing collegiate monastery in Bavaria, and the oldest Church of Regensburg. In terms of art history, it is considered one of the most important rococo churches in Bavaria. According to legend, it is also said to be the oldest church and therefore the mother church of Bavaria, from which the Christianization of the country began, and stands on the site of a Roman temple to Juno. The core of today's building dates back to the Ottonian period, when the collegiate monastery was founded in 1002 by Henry II and his wife Kunigunde. The elevated choir, on the other hand, was only built in the middle of the 15th century and is designed in the late Gothic style. After a thorough redesign in the second half of the 18th century, the rococo style dominates the interior.

a basilic from the era of the holy roman empire. now on the baroque style with rococo ceiling. very old and impressive.
David A — Google review
The Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady is the oldest Catholic place of worship in Bavaria and one of the most important churches in Regensburg. It is located on Alter Kornmarkt to the east of Dom St. Peter's in the historic city centre. The church was originally founded around 1000 when a Romanesque abbey was built at this location. In the 18th-century the interior nave was given a Baroque and Rococo redesign. It is considered a Rococo masterpiece in the manner of the Wessobrunn School. The exterior is rather subtle and unassuming. However, once you enter the main chapel area, you will see an immaculate nave and interior with ornate decoration, endless gilding, artworks, ceiling fresco and elaborate high altar. There is much to feast your eyes upon within Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady. It is well worth simply taking a seat and enjoying what is around and above you within the church. Note, you can conveniently visit Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady before or after other interesting churches in the area. These include the Carmelite Church of St. Joseph on the other side of the square and St. Peter's Cathedral just a couple minutes walk west of this location.

The Brückturm-Museum is located at the southern end of the historic stone bridge over the Danube in Regensburg. The tower also provides panoramic views of the historic center, stone bridge, and the Danube.
A museum and tower that offer scenic views of the old town and bridge. The museum gives some idea of the history of the bridge and the town of Regensburg. The tower itself is climbable, but has a one way system that is not obvious to those who do not speak German. There is an old clock mechanism in the tower that is also quite interesting to those who are interested in such things.

One of the interesting heritage buildings to see in the city centre of Regensburg is Bruekturm (Bridge Tower) which stands on the south side of the Danube and the Old Stone Bridge. We enjoyed seeing the attractive tower after a brief stroll on the bridge. It is a convenient attraction to view while in this area of Regensburg. This gate tower once served as part of the city fortifications and dates back to the 13th-century. In the early 20th-century a large archway was built to allow room for trams to pass through. Today it serves as a museum and during part of the year (March to October - open 10.45am - 5pm) as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Visitor Centre throughout the year.

(Translated by Google) My reason for going to Regensburg! And absolutely justified! Audio guide with headphones: the headphones could be worn comfortably over hearing aids. However, it was difficult to understand when the tour was taking place at the same time. If the museum is "quiet" it works great for me. This audio guide was definitely a really great introduction to the museum. (I don't want to give too much away here - try it out yourself!). All floors are accessible via an elevator (please wheelchair users come to the museum from the back, not the side facing the Danube). After the previous tour of the World Heritage Center, I was totally exhausted and unfocused. So I came back the next day and explored the museum as part of a guided tour: it was so exciting to have the exhibits and Kepler's life explained again - things that I hadn't been able to appreciate the day before and to be able to classify them from a different perspective. For example, the explanations of the "perpetual calendar", the reality of Kepler's life at the time, but also what influence his research still has on us today (keyword optics, that was still completely new to me!) and how many topics he explored and researched in his scientific life. For me, the most fascinating thing was the comparison of the different world views and (unfortunately the technology was on strike) the many letters that Kepler wrote - these were briefly presented as part of the tour about his life story. The issue of accessibility is very important to the museum, although it could not be implemented in all places due to the old, listed building. But as I said, you can get to all floors with an elevator. I recommend that people with visual impairments take someone with them - also because the ceiling is quite low in some places on the stairs. Unfortunately, there are no touch stations - but you can discover a lot with a guided tour and/or the audio guide. Hearing impairments were also taken into account (although the music of one of the exhibits was a bit disruptive during the tour). But there was a solution for that too. Conclusion: I was in this ("small") museum for a good 4 hours in total and still feel the need to come back and discover even more. I would like to thank the employees of this museum for their patience in answering my questions, the nice conversations and especially for "a moment of peace and relaxation" when my concentration was totally at a loss.

Salzstadel, a historic building dating back to 1620, served as the most important salt store in Regensburg and its surrounding regions during a time when salt was highly valued. Today, it has been restored and houses a restaurant, shops, and the city's visitor center. The visitor center showcases over 2,000 years of history of the city - from its Roman origins to its significance as an important trading metropolis.
Lovely place and the information office has a nice overview/museum of the history of the city and its region.

The Salzstadel was the central building for overnight storage of the salt on the salt road from Bad Reichenhall to the West over the boarder at the Lech River. According to the reccords the salt hat to be stored for 3 nights in the city, was weighed and the toll was charged. Therefore the building providied stables for the horses and carriages - storage space for the salt and accomodation for the personal

Stadtpark is a 21-acre former quarry site transformed into a beautiful city park with lawns, linden trees, chapels, and a pond. It offers various attractions such as a Biergarten, playgrounds for both older and younger kids, and a water play area. The park hosts events throughout the year and provides ample space for picnics and leisurely walks.
I love this park! It is always clean and exactly the right spot to come and read a book, have a coffee or talk to friends! The lake makes this place even lovelier, along with its trees, pretty benches and flowers! There are many nice cafés and bakeries nearby so you wont need to wander off too far either :)

The Stadtrundfahrt Regensburg - CITY TOUR is a 45-minute guided tour that provides an introduction to the Old Town and the rich history of Regensburg.
I enjoyed the excursion! The price is 10 euro for around 40 minutes. There is installed audio guide and the driver gives you headphones so it's nice to learn about the city that way
Evgeniia — Google review
Nice little trip around the old city in a "train", with good audio commentary. Might be a touch of green-washing here, at least as far as the information in the pamphlet/flyer/leaflet goes. The "train" engine on my tour did not seem to be electric; "our electric-train Emma" according to the flyer. When we set off you could clearly smell fumes from an engine (diesel?). Cute engine, but not the one depicted on the flyer. If the pamphlet had indicated one carriage had audio commentary available in multiple languages via plugin, wired, headphones I could have brought my own. Headphones /wired ear buds are provided for the passangers in that wagon, but they aren't collected at the end. So, as wasteful as the "free" ear buds airlines provide. But it's still a GREAT way to get a feel for the fantastic old city & an orientation - in time & space. And the coupon for a coffee at the Weissbräuhaus... much better to try a weißbier & put the 1.50 € towards that 🍻
David H — Google review
It is one of the best ways to see the city before you start your in-depth visit of each site. It was hot on the day during our visit. The train does not have AC. It was quiet hot, but once the train starts moving it was bearable. The audio tour itself was very informative.
J L — Google review
The toy train ride was enjoyable and also they have language options for guidance like , german, English, Italian, Spanish and Russian. It's a 45 min ride and they cover all the historical sites.

Good tour on a cold, grey winter day, kept us out of the cold. In good weather probably not worth its while, the area the tour covers could just as easily be walked.

If you're looking for an exhilarating escape room experience in Regensburg, look no further than The RoomSolvers. With two uniquely designed rooms that showcase creativity and innovation, this venue promises a thrilling adventure for both novices and seasoned players alike. Each room is meticulously crafted with attention to detail, ensuring that every moment spent inside is filled with excitement and engagement. The Time Travel room stands out with its clever ideas and captivating backstory, making it a favorite among visitors.
Did the 80s room last week in a team of 3 which worked very well. Loved the time travel theme and use of electrical tech combined conventional physical problem solving methods. Loads of love for detail went into the room which enhanced the atmosphere for me. The subtle acoustic hints that time was slowly running out was also locically and seamlessly integrated. Play benefits from different "strategic" preferences of individual players. I was more the practical "searcher" and "putting-things-into-the-right-places" guy while the others loved solving number and letter games to get combinations, etc. I'd recommend the room for 2 - 4, maybe 5 players (except you feel fine having spectators around...). The introduction (in character) by a young lady in charge of the game was great, too. So if you are in Regensburg, make sure to arrange an appointment beforehand. :-)

Unfortunately, the second time we saw “Back from the 80s” we were a bit disappointed. We found it very difficult, although it is a beautifully designed space and well done. Unfortunately, the supervisor wasn't that good, we got very few helpful tips, she just wasn't as relaxed and personable as the first time. In addition, an important piece of paper for solving the puzzle was forgotten! That was really very annoying... but it worked out and we were able to solve it. Ostentor, also known as the East Gate, is a well-preserved medieval tower gate located on the eastern edge of Regensburg's old town. It was once part of the city walls and provides a glimpse into the fortified history of the area. While visitors cannot enter the gate, it is still an impressive sight to behold from both sides. The location by the river makes it a perfect stop for a leisurely stroll along with nearby park.
A large and impressive tower gate on the eastern edge of the old town. The tower gate is worthy of a visit as it is much more visually striking than the western gate and gives an idea of what the old fortified city must have once looked like.

Nice boulder gym. A lot of routes for every taste, a separate wall for grab and finger training. Quite an amount of polished handles, but I guess it's only 1-3 ones, which are rarely used and maintained which is fine. Great gym, beautiful sitting area with beer, coffee, and food. Toilets and showers are really nice with lockers and there is plenty of room to stash bags in cubby holes around the gym. The climbs were really fun with a lot of variation, a good amount of slab and slight overhang which I enjoy and a good range of difficulty. Holds were all clean which shows they are reset often. Parking was easy on the weekend but might be paid on weekdays if we interpreted the signs correctly? Overall loved it!

CinemaxX Regensburg is a fantastic destination for movie lovers, offering a modern and well-maintained environment that elevates the cinema experience. With its sleek design, large screens, and excellent sound quality, every film feels immersive. The seating is particularly comfortable with ample legroom, ensuring you can enjoy your favorite flicks without discomfort. Visitors have noted the friendly staff who enhance the overall ambiance of this sophisticated venue.
Very nice cinema with comfortable chairs - any row is fine to view the screen just fine because the rows are apart from each other far enough! We also got ourselves the jumbo reusable bottle that must hold like 2-3 liters!
Stefan H — Google review
I recently had the chance to visit CinemaxX Regensburg for a Telugu movie, and I have to say, it was a great experience! The theater is modern and well-maintained, with a sleek design that makes it feel more upscale than your average cinema. The screens are large, and the sound quality is excellent, really enhancing the movie-watching experience. The seats are comfortable with plenty of legroom, which is always a plus. I also liked that they have a variety of seating options, but I wish they had more premium recliner seats. The theater was clean, and the staff were friendly and efficient. The concessions are what you'd expect at a standard movie theater. The popcorn was fresh, and they had a decent selection of snacks and drinks, though the prices were a bit high, as usual. The only slight drawback was that the theatre didn't use air conditioning because of the lack of crowds. It's a bit much for a well-known theatre to behave like it's trying to save money. Also, parking in the area can be tricky at peak times. All in all, I'd say CinemaxX Regensburg is a great option for a movie night. I'd definitely go back! Only 4 star: It's missing a few key features, like recliner seating and for not using air conditioning.
Kranthi M — Google review
An absolute beautiful Cinema. But it's idiotic, you choose to buy tickets online in advance and you actually save the Theater on some of their personnel cost, and then you realize it's indeed over 2€ per ticket more expensive than buying them directly there. Two online tickets and with two popcorn combos, over 50€. As a monthly Date night opinion, it's a fantastic time, but it's slowly getting too expensive.
Ric N — Google review
Lots of advertising for OV movies. But unfortunately OV is only shown on release date and after that apparently never again. They shouldn’t advertise it if they do it only once. Wanted to watch Naked Gun or Mission Impossible in OV on the weekend. Not possible. Watched Freakier Friday instead, the only choice today. Apart from that it’s a nice cinema. Drinks and snacks overpriced as usual. €5,90 for a 0,33 Heineken is heavy. Infrastructure and systems are on the higher end. Reclining seats kinda come back at you. It’s all right. I just ask for more OV really.

Qite sophesticated and well organised cinema hall. Neat and clean, friendly staff, good ambiance, comfortable seats , audio quality is also good, medium acreen size. Give a fell like you are watching cinema at home.

Was there to watch lord of the rings for 12 hours straight, absolutely amazing and kind staff, Especially when it was quiet the staff was very nice, the prices weren't as bad as i expected But it's 4 stars because after a while in the theater room itself it really started to become a hard to breathe in air quality, yes there were breaks but i forgot to go out so i had to leave for a bit during the movie, couldve also just been me But overall very good, definitely will visit again
Leonie G — Google review
I was there to watch Mission Impossible. It was Friday around 14.30. And only 5-6 person inside 🙈😍
Dewiii — Google review
Today we had a really bad experience for Oppenheimer movie. The air conditioner was off and we were sweating during the movie. Additionally the seats were making noise when we leaned forward. And lastly some random guys were sitting on our seats and when we asked them to move, they asked us to seat to some other seats. Sound quality - 3/5 (voice needs to be clearer) Seats - 4/5 (overall comfortable but needs maintenance) Cinema hall -3/5 (only one entrance which interferes the movie experience when someone uses for an exit)

Super sweet little cinema in Regensburg! Prices are reasonable and even include a discount for students. It was very cosy and comfortable and the staff was also very kind, if you are looking for an evening out filled with retro flair, I can recommend this place :)
Caitlin J — Google review
This is a small and cozy theater that always has some good movies - both blockbusters, as well as some indie ones. The atmosphere is nice and there have never been too many other people in this cinema. The staff is nice as well!
Stefan H — Google review
Old fashioned cinema club with amazing atmosphere.
Vit S — Google review
Amazing small theatre, very cosy. They have only 2 halls, but it is famous among locals and sometimes the hall might be full. You can also buy some drinks (incl. beer) and pop corn at the reception. The hall is old-styled with small tables and lamps like in 1960s, and inspite it looks old, the chairs are very soft and convenient. It's a great experience and I love returning to this place again and again. A hidden gem of the city!
Ilyà H — Google review
Big display. And very good sound. Recommended to visit
Oleksandr T — Google review
I wish I can get a salty Popcorn here. But the place is super nice with classic theme. I was in the third row, but it wasn't bad. The sounds can be more louder maybe in the future?!

The theater was awesome. It really has the old age kind of vibes and the Dolby music system is insane and the seat’s are super comfortable. The staff were super cool and friendly. Must really get this kind of experience watching in this theater which was running since 1926 😁
Viswa B — Google review
It's a cute cinema with an alternative vibe and some movies in English. No popcorn. The bathroom is inside the theater room itself so you can only use it after you are allowed to enter the room. There is no fixed seating but there weren't many people either when we went, so easy to find good seats without stress. Some seats are couples seats (no rest arm between them).
Cris — Google review
Super cozy, old school cinema. Very comfy with more leg space than most cinemas. There are no seat reservations, you can just seat yourself as you please. The cinema also features a seat row with couple seats.
Johannes E — Google review
Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Nothing to add that the other reviews didn't say. If I lived closer, this might be my go to movie theater.
Andreas H — Google review
I love this cinema! It has a cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and a great selection of movies. The Sony Digital Cinema 4K projector and the Dolby Digital 7.1 sound system make the viewing experience amazing. The prices are reasonable and the location is convenient. Highly recommended!
Local G — Google review
The best movie theatre in town. Combining the latest blockbusters with more alternative titles. With a bit of luck they screen also original or sub-titled versions. Love their series "20/30/40 years ago" screening old classics from different genres. And did I mention the have beer too?
Vít B — Google review
Local Cinema in Altstadt Regensburg with very comfortable seats with a good selection of current movies. We always go there when they have the movie we want to see ... being a small Cinema the selection is limited. The screen placement is not ideal (you have too look up) and the sound is not the best - they have no Dolby Atmos audio for example, only 7.1 - but lower ticket prices and shorter commercial break than in Cinemaxx make up for the technical downsides.
Catalin I — Google review
Great movie theater. Very confortable room. Inexpensive when compared to bigger cinemas. I don't speak German but they offer some sessions in English. There are seats expecially designed for couples. Only downside is the lack of popcorns.

A wonderful place to play with friends/family and an excellent customer service from the lady who help us in the journey (unfortunately, i forgot to ask her name, but she is from Venezuela ♡). Hope to be back soon.

We had an amazing experience at this escape game. The prison theme was immersive, and the storyline was both captivating and well thought out. The puzzles were challenging but very rewarding to solve, keeping us engaged from start to finish. On top of that, the staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome right from the start. It was clear that a lot of effort had been put into creating a memorable and enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!
Matthieu B — Google review
Great experience, lot of different kind on puzzles. Staff is super kind. Suitable for non german speaker too. Shout-out to our game-master Jürgen
Dario B — Google review
I tried the lost bus and the "attentat". The staff was really cool, they were helpful and funny. Both escape rooms are nice and have many different riddles. Groups of 4 are the best size, I think
Raphael W — Google review
We asked to do one escape game in English and they were all very prepared for that. We were 4 persons and we did the "Lost Bus". 'The effects and everything was great, I was super afraid because I am easily scared. Nonetheless, I had a great time and the organizers are fantastic and really friendly. I would recommend it for sure, I will go back.

This was the second year in a row that I celebrated my birthday at Live Act Games. The second room was just as much fun as the first. I was a little worried that a jail cell would be too sterile, but I had nothing to worry about! We had a blast, especially because the personnel were so friendly and attentive. Looking forward to going back and trying the third room!

Andreasstadel is a small, cozy cinema with 28 seats that offers an alternative to mainstream films by focusing on niche and international movies not typically shown in larger theaters. Located within a restaurant, it provides a unique atmosphere where patrons can enjoy a meal before or after the show. The cinema's architecture integrated with an Italian restaurant adds to its charm, making it an ideal spot for those seeking film art away from blockbusters.
Beautiful little cinema with a fancy and demanding line up. Cosy little screens with a private ambient. Especially the monthly movie from the hard-line film festival is a must go for Thriller and horror fans

(Translated by Google) Great little arthouse cinema with 2 screens. We were in the small hall with 25 seats and a living room atmosphere. The picture and sound were perfect and you can buy snacks and drinks quite cheaply that you can take with you to the cinema. Like many old town cinemas, the Andreasstadel also has a very special charm. Only the parking situation directly in front of the door is not very favorable.
