Museums
The Musée De Picardie, established in the 19th century during Napoleon III's reign, is housed in a magnificent building designed specifically for this purpose. It stands out not only for its cultural treasures but also for its architectural beauty and well-designed gardens. Inspired by the Louvre, it is considered one of the top museums outside Paris. The museum's extensive collection includes archaeological finds, medieval art, sculptures, and European paintings.
Pretty nice museum especially the center hall arranged in a lovely way that I spent nearly an hour inside and circulated back for a second visit on different comfortable sofa. The explanation of each display is filled with facts and stories behind, to encourage your immersion experience. I definitely recommend it to any visitor in this city.

This is one of the finest museums in northern France. Every time I’m in Amiens, I make sure to visit this remarkable place. Everything about it is beautiful—from the elegant entrance to the serene atmosphere on weekdays. It’s quiet, rarely crowded, and features a splendid collection that’s always a pleasure to explore.
Frederic — Google review
Lots to see in this labyrinthine museum. We enjoyed the basement displays the best. We got the combined ticket with the Jules Verne house, the ticket has to be used on the same day.
Pauline M — Google review
Super collection of fine art and sculptures. Very well curated. Fantastic building
Richard M — Google review
This place is absolutely brilliant. There are some breathtaking rooms, like I've never seen before. It's more a Musee de Beaux Artes than 'de Picardie'. Fully wheelchair accessible. No cafe, surprisingly, but a nice lounge area to rest in (must have been a cafe at some point?). Plenty of seats throughout. This is the best provincial art gallery I've been to and I've been to many in France.
Jacqueline B — Google review
A lot of beautiful art and sculptures, however unfortunately nothing is in English, not even the map. Also the staff barely speaks a word English.
Joshua T — Google review
This is an excellent museum over 3 floors displaying a wealth of history. The displays are well laid out and follow a logical pattern, and are well documented. They have some beautiful sculptures and works of art, which, if I had time, I could spend many hours looking at them. I am English and rely on Google Translate, which worked extremely well with the exception of a couple of small areas. I will definitely visit again if I pass through the area.
Luke K — Google review
Has a bit of everything, not just huge paintings. Wooden facades sculptures Egyptology, Earth Sciences. Well worth a visit. Spent 2 hrs here. Use Google lens for translation if you're particularly interested in certain objects. Has a few interactive screens in English and German. Free deck chairs to sit on outside. Clean toilets. Free lockers.

Saint-Leu is the oldest part of Amiens, nestled alongside the Quai Belu and surrounded by the Somme River and canals. The area boasts a charming atmosphere with colorful shops, restaurants, galleries, and bars reminiscent of canal cities like Venice and Amsterdam. Visitors can enjoy coffee at cute cafes with views of the Cathedral or opt for drinks at trendy bars.
This colorful and very lovely neighborhood must be visited if you are in Amiens
Sasha — Google review
It's okay for a stroll and chilled day. We liked the Le Homme a la sur, La femme a la robe verte snd Le homme a la chemise rouge - see photos, added a bit of fun. Pretty area.
Jacinta L — Google review
The combination of the houses with they colours and the canal is great. It's a good place to take nice pictures if you have enough time to wait for the correct sun position ( unfortunately wasn't my case... maybe I will go there again one of this days).
Luis G — Google review
There is perhaps a very small area, one road, that has exquisitely designed houses, but the rest of the area is derelict and looks as if it was bombed during World War II and left to rot. A waste of time and for some bizarre reason it's supposedly a tourist attraction.

A picturesque corner near the center with funny street art and graffiti dedicated to popular resident Macron.

It’s a very cute place in Amiens, especially during the day. At night, it is a very local drinking place for students and young adults, a little rowdycand occasionally invaded by passionate drunks. But they mean well, i promise

Les Hortillonnages, also known as the Festival Art, Cities and Landscape, is an annual event organized by the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens. It showcases projects by visual artists and landscapers in the environment of floating gardens. Visitors can enjoy a 2.5-hour boat ride through this refreshing and natural setting. The hortillonnages are small islands in the Somme and Avre rivers, featuring fruit and vegetable plots along with flower beds.
What a beautiful place, probably my favourite thing this holiday. There's a guide sheet you can download in English so you can read about it as the tour was in french, but our very funny guide pointed out wildlife in English and explained things in really clear french so we understood quite a bit of the tour. Super well organised, loved supporting the conservation of this magical place.
Helga G — Google review
Great experience! Lovely staff A must to do when you're visiting Amiens!
Sophiaa G — Google review
You absolutely have to buy tickets in advance. The boat ride is really calming and a little escape into another world that is lush , peaceful and verdant. The guides are super knowledgeable of the local flora, fauna, the ecological importance, and history of the area. Our guide's English was very limited but we had Google translate on and it picked up everything he said and it was very interesting.
Aquias S — Google review
Loved our boat trip around Les Hortillonages. Our guide seated us just in front of him so he could translate into English where possible.
Pat H — Google review
Lovely way to spend an hour whilst visiting Amiens. The boat trip through the Hortillonnages was informative, interesting and calming. You can't help but be a little of jealous of the people fortunate enough to live in this lovely place. Highly recommended. Think about booking in advance. Several people were turned away because they were full on the day we visited.
Simon A — Google review
Be sure to take mosquito spray, since you will be bitten! Not able to sit together, we were separated on the boat! Had to sit with strangers! Feel sorry for the surrounding area, trashy, not well kept at all! Literally looking into people’s homes & yards! Signs up saying no photos!! The tour was only in French so we did not understand a word! Would not recommend.
David B — Google review
So if you are going to visit and want to enjoy the boat tour, you had better to hurry. I couldn’t find any website for the ticket purchase, so I had to visit to buy tickets, and unfortunately, I couldn’t buy them because it was sold out already. I had no option but taking a walk instead of taking a boat tour.
공짜장 K — Google review
We are from the UK and absolutely loved it! You will not be disappointed even though it's a French commentary you can just appreciate the beautiful scenery and winding canal around some amazing homes and gardens and wildlife...very peaceful and easy to find and really responsibly priced! Enjoy it wherever your from 🙏🥰😃

Jules Verne House, also known as the "House with the Tower," is a late-19th-century mansion located in Amiens. This historic home was where Jules Verne lived for 18 years and wrote most of his famous "Extraordinary Voyages" series. The house has been meticulously restored to its late 1800s appearance, showcasing preserved interiors, including Verne's study filled with reference books and scientific reports that inspired his iconic adventure stories.
A wonderful house that has clearly preserved Vernes ' energy and vision. It almost feels like he could come out of his office at any moment, to greet the guests. So much to see, read, take in - and yet a light and beautiful feeling of presence, of shared dreams and humanity. I look forward to visiting again soon.
Silvana A — Google review
Very nice building. Staff speaks English. Most items have also an english explanation. You get a lot of information about Verne and his life. Very lovely decoreted rooms and things owned by J. Verne are well presented. It is realy a pitty, you can't enter the tower. A little bit expensive.
Kraft K — Google review
As a Romanian couple, we were deeply touched to visit the house of Jules Verne, a writer we have admired since childhood and who remains so dear to us even today. Walking through his home felt like stepping into the imagination of one of the greatest visionaries of all time. The exhibition is beautifully arranged, full of fascinating details, and truly honors his extraordinary legacy. A must-visit for anyone who has ever dreamed beyond the horizon, just as Jules Verne inspired us to do since we were little.

It’s very interesting to see where Jules Verne lived in Amiens. A place full of history, with original pieces. The kids that love his books were very happy to visit the house, bigger than they have imagined.

Cathedral
Place of worship
The Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens is a magnificent 13th-century Gothic cathedral, renowned for its lavish decorations and intricate carvings. This UNESCO-listed landmark is Europe's largest Gothic cathedral, boasting a stunning facade adorned with thousands of statues and carvings depicting various scenes from ancient occupations to depictions of sins and virtues. Inside, visitors are greeted by a nave twice the size of the Notre-Dame in Paris.
If you're anywhere near Amiens, don't miss this cathedral — it's absolutely worth the detour. Notre-Dame d’Amiens is even bigger than the one in Paris, and way less crowded. The detail on the facade is insane, and inside it feels massive and peaceful at the same time. In the summer, I’d recommend going late afternoon so you can catch the light show in the evening — it's honestly magical how they bring the front of the cathedral to life with color. Tip: take your time walking around the outside too — there are lots of little carvings and details you might miss!
Emilia S — Google review
A truly awe-inspiring cathedral! Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens is astonishing in its size and the incredible detail of its carvings, both inside and out. The height of the nave is particularly impressive, and the light entering through the clear glass creates a beautiful atmosphere. Don't miss this UNESCO World Heritage site if you're in the area.
Yecheng S — Google review
Huge cathedral, at least in my experience, as I am not really a cathedral expert.... One can choose which Saint to honour of to pray to or burn a candle for. Extremely detailed tableaux with more or less medieval daily life and church life images. The whole building is so full of symbols and sculptures that it is impossible to grasp. The large organ was under restoration, but also that is huge. Worth a visit, it is for free and nice cool inside on top of all those holiness.
Christy D — Google review
I have a thing for Cathedrals, and this one was exceptional. Bigger than the one in Paris it’s filled with stunning details. Free light show on the facade every evening in the summer. We visited on a Friday afternoon and it was very quiet. We were driving past Amiens and I’m very glad we stopped!
Lizzie ( — Google review
I was stunned at first sight and drawn into the mysticism and ritual. Then suddenly the Sun came out and the nave was bathed in mystic light and I was stunned anew. It was a night-and -day experience and it was still only noon. The experiences you have here are of the things you hold dear for your life.
Bob P — Google review
Wonderful historical cathédrale to visit. Very large, with many interesting areas and features.
Peter C — Google review
Built in the 1200s to impress and to house John the Baptist’s head, and it still does both. Bigger than Notre-Dame in Paris, sharper in detail, cleaner in structure. The façade is a textbook in Gothic sculpture, but not chaotic — it’s all deliberately ordered. Inside, it’s vast and surprisingly bare, which only makes the architecture stand out more. Worth a visit but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going to Amiens specifically to see the cathedral.
Yevgen G — Google review
Visiting Amiens Cathedral was like stepping into a living monument of medieval art, history, and faith. It’s a Gothic cathedral in the north of France. It’s huge, peaceful, and full of beautiful details from the 13th century. Also: It’s wheelchair accessible with ramps and smooth paths.

Zoo Amiens Métropole is a compact zoo that houses around 300 animals from 90 different species spanning five continents. The zoo offers educational tours and events, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn about the diverse flora and fauna it hosts.
Awesome zoo experience! Tons of greenery and wide assortment of animals! Several shows are performed throughout the day. Price was affordable and a great value. Enjoyed our time here and would recommend to others. For more travel content, check out Adventure on a Dime on YouTube.

It was a good zoo, not too expensive. Chip shop in the middle was lovely and petting zoo part was great. Only issue I had was being told off for entering a part that was only blocked from one side.... Parking is good and free
Brett W — Google review
Visited Zoo Amiens Métropole with my wife and two young kids — we had a fantastic afternoon! The landscaping is beautiful, full of trees and greenery, and it rarely feels like the animals are in enclosures at all. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out. There’s a great variety of animals, from big cats to penguins and exotic birds, and the zoo’s compact size makes it perfect for young children — easy to walk around, plenty of shade and rest spots, and even a small contact area where kids can get closer to animals. Ticket prices are very fair for the experience, and the overall atmosphere is calm and family-friendly. A wonderful little zoo that’s perfect for a relaxed family outing in Amiens!
Pieter M — Google review
The zoo is medium sized. There are few animals and reptiles which are noy so frequently met. The ticket has an acceptable price. The place looks good and has informative panels.
SVC — Google review
An exceptionally pleasant zoo. While not huge, the zoo uses its space very well and offers a wide variety of animals and landscapes. The trees provide a lot of shade and the rivers crossing the zoo provide a sense that you’re in nature. Pound for pound, one of the best zoos I’ve ever been in.
Kyle — Google review
Fantastic zoo, good value for money and not too big. So you can get around it in about four hours and enjoy all the animals.
Lorraine J — Google review
I read reviews to say it’s beyond expectation but it still amazed me when we visited. The zoo is built like a big park surrenders by a lot of greens and has very nature like setup and the animals looked very free and comfortable. It’s selection of animals is also very nice, we see some species rarer than London zoo. There are also animal encounter activities throughout the day (though not during lunch time). We saw the seal encounter and the host had been explaining things (although all in French) during the whole 20 minutes of show. They also have a contact zone where you could touch goats and see rabbits very closely. We spent a little over 2 hours in the zoo. There’s a cafe in the zoo to serve food like sandwiches or you could book to eat French dishes in le Pavillon Bleu right outside of the park. The zoo also provides free pushchairs for little ones and the ticket are really very reasonable to my opinion
V&V W — Google review
Nice small zoo with friendly prices. Good for 2-3 hours. Major upgrades are planned in the next years, which will improve the zoo and add more interesting animals.

The Beffroi d'Amiens is a medieval bell tower in Amiens, France. It is one of the most impressive monuments in the city, and has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The belfry is a Unesco-listed monument and features a carillon that was installed in 1857.

Jerry J — Google review
A symbol of municipal freedom and of communal liberties the Belfry has stood in Place au Fil since the Middle Ages. The belfry played host to the alderman meetings, housed the city bells and served as watchtower and prison. Its joyous carillon now provides a musical background to the day for Amiens residents.
Edward — Google review
Perhaps not the most beautiful belfry, but one with history. The 52-meter high belfry of Amiens is one of the 56 belfries of Belgium and France that have been registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2005. Although the belfry was built between 1406 and 1410 as a symbol of the city's independence, its main function was that of a watchtower. After the tower burned down for the second time in 1742, it took seven years for the architect Beffara to start rebuilding. This gives the belfry its current appearance. Unfortunately Marie-Firmine, the 11-ton alarm clock, was "killed" in 1940 and eventually replaced by a carillon in 1989.
Koen — Google review

The Dewailly Clock, featuring the statue of Marie sans Chemise, is an intriguing landmark in Amiens. Although it may be considered commonplace by locals, visitors are captivated by this emotive piece of art and often treasure it as a sentimental photographic memento. The sculpture itself is strikingly beautiful and evokes a strong emotional response in those who appreciate its aesthetic value.
Louis Dewailly, former mayor of Amiens, bequeathed 25,000 francs to the town so that it could build a clock so that residents of Amiens could not miss their train. The body, created by Charles-Emile Riquier, is made up of a Rococo-style spire surmounted by a three-faced clock lit by gas (later, electricity will replace gas). Albert Roze, in charge of ornament, added to the building a statue representing a half-naked young girl carrying an apple branch. She is sitting on the pedestal. The Puritans felt offended but the people of Amiens quickly gave her a nickname for their clock, she became the "Marie Sans Chemise". ruins. When the city is rebuilt, it is abandoned in a wasteland and disappears. Gilles de Robien had promised the Amiens: the Dewailly clock will be rebuilt identically and will find its place in the heart of the city center from the year 2000. With great emotion, hundreds of Amiens discovered the new clock, which has been the subject of many conversations. On December 31, 1999 at noon, the clock stamped with the 2000 vintage struck its first twelve strokes. The new "Dewailly" clock is revealed at 11.30 a.m. As the veil that hides her slowly lifts, applause rings out.

Les Hortillonnages, located northeast of Amiens city center, are a network of floating gardens and waterways that have been in existence since medieval times. Visitors can explore this unique area by taking a boat trip through the picturesque gardens, which offer a serene and scenic experience.
Loved our boat trip around Les Hortillonages. Our guide seated us just in front of him so he could translate into English where possible.

What a beautiful place, probably my favourite thing this holiday. There's a guide sheet you can download in English so you can read about it as the tour was in french, but our very funny guide pointed out wildlife in English and explained things in really clear french so we understood quite a bit of the tour. Super well organised, loved supporting the conservation of this magical place.
Helga G — Google review
We are from the UK and absolutely loved it! You will not be disappointed even though it's a French commentary you can just appreciate the beautiful scenery and winding canal around some amazing homes and gardens and wildlife...very peaceful and easy to find and really responsibly priced! Enjoy it wherever your from 🙏🥰😃

This is a lovely botanical garden and is one of the minor attractions to visit in Amiens. It is twenty minutes from the centre and slightly hidden away. The garden has various types of plants and flowers that are clearly labelled. There is a fountain as a centrepiece that is surrounded by benches to take in the natural surroundings. It is not covered, so it can be very hot on warm days. There is a centre next to it and you will see the happy workers passing by. There is no place to buy refreshments in the garden, so it is worth bringing some if coming to visit on a warm day. A nice gentle time to relax in Amien can be had in the garden.

The Musée des Hortillonnages in Amiens is best visited during the International Garden Festival, which runs from June to mid-October. The festival showcases the work of young artists such as landscape artists, visual artists, and architects. Visitors can take a tranquil boat tour through the hortillonnages with a designated route. The museum offers informative tours about the city and the hortillonnages, with beautiful outdoor surroundings.
What a peaceful moment in the center of Amiens. Thérèse and her companions, all retired market gardeners who run the Musée des Hortillonnages in Amiens, literally enchanted us. Their private boat tour with Jean-Noël, who told us all about the history and life of the hortillonnages, which are at the heart of the city, and his daily life as a market gardener.
Pierre B — Google review
Visiting Amiens we wanted to visit the hortillonages so asked at the Tourist board. Whilst there was a number of options only a few offered English tours and none had space for 4. They recommended we visit the musee as there we could just wait. We are so pleased we took up their recommendation. Arriving at the musee, we paid a very reasonable 10€ each which would include the boat ride. The welcoming receptionist actually took us to where we joined the queue for a boat. One of the staff realising we were English gave us a laminated translation sheet, then suddenly Emiline was by our side explaining that she spoke English and would be our guide. She explained that she was volunteering there as part of her university language course. She accompanied us on the boat ride and then suggested we looked at the museum. Joined by another student, Marie, she went through the history of the hortillonages and took us around explaining everything. It’s not a fancy museum, but there is lots to see and with our wonderful guides we enjoyed our afternoon. Thank you Marie and Emiline and good luck with your studies

The Archaeological Garden of Saint-Acheul is a significant site that showcases the traces of Palaeolithic human presence in the region. The park features a stratigraphic section classified as a Historic Monument, offering visitors an insight into the period through explanatory panels and educational workshops. Situated in the heart of the Saint-Acheul district, this 19th-century brick quarry has yielded carved flint tools from the Acheulean period, shedding light on the formation of the Somme valley.

The staff is known for being friendly, helpful, and ensuring a safe experience, especially during these times. Even beginners had a great time kayaking here. Renting a kayak allows for an easy paddle through les hortillonnages, offering beautiful scenery and water gardens worth spending a few hours exploring.
So worth renting a Kayak and taking an easy paddle through les hortillonnages at your own pace, beautiful and definitely worth a few hours of your time. Staff were friendly and helpful and it was worth the money.

We took the half day tour, which means that you have four hours to paddle back to the office building. Getting started took a while. Staff was definitely not planning on trying any other languages than French. And not willing or tablet to understand our limited French. So, it was a bit complex to complete the forms, understand what to collect and where we would be brought to. But, it did work out very well! The ride to the starting point in a fast flowing river, not the Somme, took 20 minutes or so. Carrying the canoe to the water another 5-10 minutes and then we took off. Very nice river, good speed, some fun obstacles to round, like fallen trees or grass balls. Swimming in the river is only possible if you are a good swimmer Swimming vest recommended, because the current is quite strong.
Christy D — Google review
The best way to visit the hortillonnages. Kayaking means you can explore at your own pace and access some paths that are closed to barques. My husband and I reserved our kayak in advance via the website and were able to enjoy a stress free morning on the water. Staff is super friendly and wonderful. They also are great at making the whole experience safe including in corona times. Neither me nor my husband are expert kayakers and yet we both had a great time. You can get a bit wet so I do recommend bringing a towel (you can put it in a water proof barrel on the kayak).

(Translated by Google) I took my 15 month old daughter. She really liked it. Negative point, the safety of 0-3 year olds because in the structure there were children between 6 and 9 years old running while babies were crawling in the structure. In the end, it pissed me off so much that I barely stayed 1 hour so paying 6€ for my baby doesn't bother me but paying 6€ to stay barely 1 hour because there was no security for the little ones, that disappointed me a little (Original) J'ai emmené ma fille de 15 mois. Ciné St-Leu is an exemplary arthouse cinema, offering a consistently captivating selection of films. With screenings in their original version and special programming for children during school holidays, it caters to diverse audiences. The cinema is conveniently located in a pleasant neighborhood, making it easily accessible for visitors. Moreover, the reasonable prices ensure that everyone can enjoy this cinematic experience. Overall, Ciné St-Leu stands out as an outstanding movie theater with a comfortable ambiance and an exceptional program.
You won't find the latest blockbusters, but it will show most movies in their original language with French subtitles, not the awful French translations. On many weeks, it is the only real cinema choice in Amiens.

The Festival international de jardins | Hortillonnages Amiens - Port à Fumier offers a delightful excursion in the Camon district, where visitors can rent electric boats to explore 50 stunning artworks. The experience typically lasts around two and a half hours, with parking spaces available and a welcome desk for convenience. While some visitors arrived late and missed the festival, they still enjoyed the beautiful landscape and atmosphere.
This place is great. What a fantastic concept! You drive yourself around in little putt-putt boats stopping at various islands where you can hop out and explore the art installations. It's green, full of flowers, plants, birds = nature! So relaxing and creative. Highly recommend. A great family outing.

(Translated by Google) Visit on June 1, 2025 Five of us came for two 40-minute laser tag sessions, booked in advance via the website. The atmosphere inside is pleasant, and the place makes you want to play, but unfortunately, several things disappointed us. First, we thought we'd only play among ourselves, as seems to be the case when you book an entire slot. In the end, we were mixed with other people, which hadn't been clearly stated when we booked. Secondly, the welcome was rather cold: the person at the entrance (a young man) was on his phone, unsmiling, and explained the rules unenthusiastically, almost annoyed. He even huffed when we asked for help with a 1 euro coin lost in a faulty arcade machine. The same goes for the explanations for the vests. There was a direction, but since it wasn't explained, we had put them on backwards, he haughtily remarked, "First of all, it's not the right way up 😒." It's a shame, because the laser tag itself is still fun, but the customer service could be significantly improved.

(Translated by Google) In the heart of Amiens you can find the Hôtel de Berny. Housed in an old mansion from the first half of the 17th century, it originally served as the office of the treasurers of France. After the French Revolution it was sold at auction as a national treasure. At the end of the 18th century, the building underwent numerous renovations a few years later, then the construction of the zodiac pavilion in the 1930s, in the garden, by the then owner Gérard de Berny, a wealthy collector and bibliophile. It is to him that Amiens owes the creation of the museum, with in particular important collections of works of art such as furniture, ceramics, silverware and tapestries The museum opened in 1966. It is currently undergoing major renovation works, which means it is temporarily closed. Rue Victor Hugo. (Original) In het hart van Amiens kunt u het Hôtel de Berny terugvinden. The outdoor pool is ok. proper size for proper practice. Due to metalic reflection of the pool tilings, you'll get the UV effects way more . 1-There is No Hot or Cold jacuzzi which is quite unusual for any normal aquatic space. 2-The Hammam has no water faucet/reservoir to clean the benches after each use. So basically people sit and lay down on other people's body drippings one after the other. 3-There are limited number of benches in the corridors for short relaxation times. ppl tend to put their stuff on them and leave completely for swimming or using the saunas so the benches remain empty but no body can use them. 4-The locker rooms tend to get very very dirty very soon, which need a faster cleaning , not happening. 5-The swimming pool water tends to get very dirty at times.

A very pleasant place to visit on hot days. We loved the outdoor swimming pool, the dedicated pool for small children, and the showers and lockers, which were all very easy to use. 🚩 Negative points: The swimming pool wasn’t very clean — we could clearly see dirt at the bottom, and there were a lot of long hairs floating in the water. It might be a good idea to require people to tie up their hair when swimming. Also, there weren’t enough hair dryers and mirrors for the number of visitors. Since it was a hot day, we left without drying our hair, but on colder days, that could be a real issue. All in all, it was a positive experience, and we’ll definitely come back.
