The Museo Regional de Querétaro is located in the historic Ex Convent of San Francisco, a 16th-century colonial convent that served as a significant center for evangelization. The museum features six exhibition rooms showcasing artifacts and items from archaeological sites in the area, including photographs, models, utensils, and vessels.
I recently visited the Regional Museum of Querétaro and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. The museum is housed in the historic Former Monastery of San Francisco, which adds a unique charm to the visit. The organization of the exhibits is very good, making it easy to follow the historical timeline and understand the context of each artifact. Here some highlights for me: 1. Archaeological and Historical Exhibits: The museum showcases a rich collection of artifacts, including sculptures, ceramics, weapons, paintings, and clothing from the Querétaro region. These exhibits provide a deep dive into the history and culture of the area, particularly focusing on the Otomi and Chichimeca ethnic groups. 2. Colonial and Independence Periods: The museum also highlights the multi-colored society of the viceregal period and the early independence period of Mexico. This section includes fascinating items from churches and monastery libraries, reflecting the social, economic, and political structures of the time. 3. Permanent and Temporary Galleries: The museum features seven permanent galleries and three temporary exhibition spaces, ensuring there is always something new to see. The quality of the exhibits is top-notch, with detailed descriptions and well-preserved artifacts. The museum is well-organized, with clear signage and informative displays that guide visitors through the various sections. The quality of the artifacts is exceptional, and the museum does a great job of preserving and presenting them in a way that is both educational and engaging. Overall, the Regional Museum of Querétaro is a must-visit for anyone interested in the rich history and culture of this region. The combination of its historic setting, well-curated exhibits, and high-quality artifacts makes it a standout attraction.

This museum is so interesting! In particular, it told a lot about the indigenous history of the region (something I haven’t seen in some other museums I visited in the area) and really enjoyed the exhibits on Mexican Independence and the Revolution. It only took us about an hour to go through the museum, but I easily could have spent a lot more time there—if you’re going to visit one museum in Querétaro, I’d recommend it be this one.
Cassandra C — Google review
COST: 90 pesos WORTH IT RATING: 6/10 The actual building that this museum is in, is an old convent several hundred years old. The architecture and the inner courtyard with a fountain are stunning and the best part of the visit. You can capture beautiful photos here. The information in the museum is ALL in Spanish, and very information heavy. If you speak Spanish, and enjoy large blocks of text, then this could be an enjoyable experience for you. It would take several hours to go through the entire museum and read everything. If you are fine with just walking around and perusing the old artifacts, clothing, and paintings, it could also be somewhat interesting. I felt the museum had a lot of potential and a lot of interesting info that i would have liked to learn, but the large quantities of text in Spanish made it feel overwhelming and dissatisfying.
Nichole P — Google review
A really cool museum to visit guys! Only cost 85 pesos, spent almost 2 hours(like to take my time in museum) lot of things to read about the cultul and the history of Mexico. A must go if you come here to visit!! Enjoyyy

(Translated by Google) There is a fee to enter the park, and there is also a museum. You also have to pay to buy tickets at the box office. I'm telling you this so you don't end up like some people who can't get in when they arrive at the museum because they sell tickets at the entrance. About the place, it's beautiful. In the museum, you learn about history and interesting things about Querétaro. The place is beautiful, clean, and very pleasant.

(Translated by Google) The Hill of Bells is often used for sweet 15 photos, weddings, etc. It's nice to walk around and look at the statue of Benito Juarez, but don't buy tickets for the museum. It's not worth it; most of the so-called interactive devices don't work. You just read a few slides and that's it. Entrance to the park costs $7 and the museum is $23. DO NOT PAY THE $23. Besides, they have clowns who don't let you bring anything in. They even stole a keychain I had in my bag, so why not buy toys?

(Translated by Google) For lovers of Mexican history, this place is a must-see. The chapel marks the spots where Generals Mejía and Miramón, and Archduke Maximilian, stood before their execution. Further up the hill, a massive statue of Benito Juárez, the revered figure, dominates the landscape. It's as if he's saying, "We won." (Original) Para los amantes de la historia mexicana, este lugar es imprescindible. La capilla marca los lugares donde estuvieron los generales Mejía, Miramón y el archiduque Maximiliano cuando fueron fusilados. My fav museum in Queretaro. They have a few rooms displaying arts from different artists. Some are really amazing and unforgettable.

The museum was nice. Most of the exhibitions are contemporary. There is not much classic art. Admission is free. Staff are friendly. It is not a very big museum.

Amazing architecture, security, exhibits, and events nearly every hour and day they are open! Go at least once a week and appreciate the Centro area.
Joel B — Google review
The Museum was once a cloister for St Agustin. It houses various temporary exhibitions, mainly from Mexican artists. And is worth visiting. The building itself is magnificent with XVIII Baroque architecture. The museum is free to access.
Carlos B — Google review
This majestic museum is free to enter. The building is wonderful and the sun lights up its orange walls. It had several exhibitions, all were well curated and beautifully displayed. This is a must see when in Queretaro
Graham S — Google review
This art museum is a gem of Querétaro. In addition to being free (there's not even a donation box and I have never been in any museum in any city without a donation box), it has a varied and interesting collection and is housed in an impressive architectural building which in itself is a work of art. Formerly the Augustinian monastery, the building is spacious and comfortable. The works are somewhat shockingly unprotected and virtually outdoors but I guess if your climate is arid enough this is fine? Anyway, worth a visit and worth your time.
Anna S — Google review
A free art museum housed in a beautiful old Augustine Monastery with some lovely examples of contemporary and historical local art. Currently under renovations that are adding even more exhibit space. It only takes an hour and a half to get through, but it's worth every minute.

The Mucal Museum Calendar, located in the historic center, is a unique museum that showcases decades of Mexican calendar art. The museum consists of 19 exhibition rooms displaying original artworks and over 400 retro-style calendars. Housed in a beautifully renovated mansion with gardens and courtyards, it offers a journey through time and space. Visitors can explore the political and commercial messages in 20th-century calendar art and compare calendars from different civilizations.
I was unsure given the name but the Calendar Museum is wonderful. The building and grounds alone are worth the visit. I was impressed with the amount of rooms and the quality of the of the displays. In the back of the garden is a cafe restaurant.
Graham S — Google review
Interesting and quick calendar info through the decades but take the time to sit in the peaceful beautiful garden.
Gonz C — Google review
Probably one of the most interesting museums I have been to, it sounds boring but the reviews here are right when they say you will have fun in this museum. It's very fascinating to look at different types of calendars and calendar arts from all over the world. You can also buy something from their cafe with the ticket you bought. All in all, a really good deal that you shouldn't miss when in Queretaro.
Nicole — Google review
This was an interesting museum! After about 20 minutes I started wondering why there are so many calendars here. I didn't realize this was a calendar museum. LOL. Then I said OH!! It was really interesting seeing the different calendar art and the other art presented. I think you will enjoy this museum. You can easily spend an hour or two looking around and they have beautiful gardens.
S R — Google review
Its a beautiful place, with a great patio and terrace.
Andrea C — Google review
Educational but mostly fun to see how cultural norms are reflected in the art of Mexican calendars. Probably better to go with someone to exchange observations. The interior garden is phenomenal and cool, and there are some interesting views from the terraza.
Kyle M — Google review
Never realized how important calendars have been to the Mexican culture. Dating back to the Mayan civilizations the calendar museum dates the chronological history of the calendars. Also showcasing beautiful art galleries from Mexican painters. The building showcases some of Queretaro's architecture with green courtyards and a nice restaurant and bar. The terrace by far was my favorite place. Sitting in the benches with the cool mountain breeze and the amazing views from around the city. A must if you are in the area.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Queretaro, also known as MUSEO DE LA CIUDAD or the Queretaro City Museum, is housed in the former Capuchin Convent. This museum showcases a diverse collection of contemporary art within an ancient baroque structure adorned with intricate figures. The museum's cross-linked patios, mysterious hallways, and spacious rooms filled with light provide a captivating setting for both local and international artists' works.
A nice collection of contemporary art in a nice comfortable space. There was quite a variety in the art displayed. I enjoyed the exhibits. As I recall, there was no admission cost.

Top notch museum. We didn't make plans for our visit here, but wanderers stumble on great things. This was one of our favorite museums that we visited so far in Mexico. The collection is great. I don't know how much the rotate exhibits, but I found it inspiring!

What a beautiful use of an old convent. The exhibits were varied and really interesting. They have stairs or an elevator. The staff was kind and helpful. And it is free and there is a lovely plaza and church adjacent. Go!

we went not knowing what to expect, and we really enjoyed the second floor: it was a feast of very Mexican colors! we also enjoyed the patio at the entrance in the afternoon light, very very interesting!

This place is AMAZING! Super modern in an historic renovated convent located in one of the plazas in the historic centro! The renovation of the building is it's own feature! We were stunned at the super cool exhibits which some were over-the-top funky. The Sunday we went there was no entrance fee which we couldn't believe. As you enter the outdoor space the first thing we notice was a giant Salvador Dali structure. Go inside and there was a variety of exhibits from artist all over the world. It ended up being the highlight of our trip to Queretaro!

Fantastic views of the city and the aqueduct. I wish we had visited at night to see the city lights. Easy walk down to centro.
Brian K — Google review
Great view point close to many historic monuments and interests. But honestly not the best view of the los arcos. Because of all the unevenly constructed houses and buildings. the best view is from the beginning of road that leads to the mirador. But I highly recommend visiting this view point.
Patric V — Google review
Nice panoramic viewpoint- it’s free to see, so no cost associated with it. The only thing is if it’s a busy time there might not be enough railing space for you to get a selfie’s/ pics, so you might have to wait a bit.
M C — Google review
The viewpoint is located a few blocks away from the terminal part of the aqueduct. Its a pretty good spot to take in the full scope of the arches. Its clean, and safe at least during the daytime. There are a few vendors and there is an interesting cemetery nearby. A 15, maybe 20 minute visit should suffice.
Bobby C — Google review
Such an amazing spot! The view from Mirador de los Arcos is incredible. And it’s not just the viewpoint there’s a bunch of interesting historical places around it too, so it’s fun to walk around and explore a bit. If you can, go in the evening. When the aqueduct lights up at night, it looks absolutely beautiful. The whole area gets a really nice vibe. Definitely worth checking out!

Museo Casa de la Zacatecana is a must-visit museum located in a well-preserved 17th-century mansion, just a block south of the Plaza de la Independencia. The museum showcases an extensive collection of centuries-old furniture, decor, paintings, and other art pieces. English-speaking visitors will appreciate the availability of English videos and labels throughout the mansion. The museum also holds a grisly legend associated with its former owner, adding to its allure for Mexican tourists.
Very interesting place. Cool to see how people lived during that time. The furniture was incredible. First museum we went to in QRO. interesting creepy story of couple and intrigue. English ñ available. Fee to enter.

80 pesos to visit and an extra 20 pesos if you want to take pictures of the room (I skipped on that). It wasn't busy, it was a pretty small museum with lots of history. For non Spanish speakers, they have a nice little booklet that gives you the history of each room which I really liked. Overall, not a bad museum to visit. It was nice walking to it

Wonderful house museum. The staff is very helpful and they even have a printed guide in English if you are interested. The exhibit itself is beautiful, done with a lot of thought and care. Definitely recommend.

Many antiques from the 19th and 18th century. The back story is a little silly but ads a touch of intrigue and realism to an otherwise simple display.

Located in the heart of downtown, Templo de San Francisco is a historic religious site with origins dating back to 1550. The temple, completed in 1640, was the first religious building constructed in Queretaro and played a significant role in the urban development of New Spain. It served as a cathedral for several years and now houses the Regional Museum of Queretaro.
Impressive building, but I actually enjoyed the plaza outside more than inside the church itself.

Most churches in Queretaro are ok looking but will not make a lasting impression on a visitor. This one is no different. It has a rich and interesting history but overall it is not so different from other churches in Mexico as to stand out.
Bobby C — Google review
Construction of Queretaros' first religious building began in the late 1500s. The temple of San Francisco acted as a convent church, cemetery, and orchard. It is located in the historical center of Santiago de Queretaro. From 1852 to 1922, it functioned as a Catholic cathedral. The architecture is a mix of Baroque and Neoclassical styles. During the centuries, the site has received numerous renovations and upgrades. Unfortunately, most of the temples and chapels from the 16th and 17th centuries were destroyed during the reform war of 1858-1861.

Jardín Guerrero is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, with plenty of space to stroll, sit, and soak in the beautiful surroundings. It’s clean, well-maintained, and never feels overcrowded, making it ideal for both quiet moments alone and friendly gatherings. Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee nearby, reading a book under the trees, or just people-watching, this garden offers a calm and refreshing escape. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Querétaro!

Museo de la Ciudad, also known as the Queretaro City Museum, is housed in a historic baroque mansion that was formerly the Capuchin Convent. The museum features contemporary art exhibits and offers a variety of events including performances, workshops, and activities for kids. The ancient baroque structure is adorned with intricate figures and serves as a showcase for both local and foreign artists from the 21st century.
Wow! This is one of the best contemporary art galleries I’ve visited. Not only is the building very cool, the art inside is really good (not always a given). There’s a lot to see in here - and it’s free!
Ben J — Google review
This is a place that demonstrates the type of buildings in the Centro Histórico. They rotate the exhibitions of the first floor, while the top floor is all about the construction of the temple and it's convertion into a museum. It is free every Sunday. There is also a mummy on the top floor.
MyHusband D — Google review
So this isn’t a museum about Queretaro city, it’s a modern art museum in an a ramshackle old building. Some exhibits are quite creative, though there isn’t much in the way of explanation (and what there is is in Spanish only). It’s free and worth a visit if you’re into modern art.
Ryan W — Google review
This place gives off creepy vibes-maybe because we went in the evening? It’s a former convent and it’s pretty run down. One of the security guards had some interesting stories to share about the building and creepy things that he’s seen. It seemed like someone was camping out there and seem to have some of his clothes hanging on the weird wooden structure around the fountain. Was that part of the installation?? I don’t think so…. It’s cool that local artists have somewhere to show their art. Our admission was free—not sure if it always is. We went Sunday evening.

It's a beautiful architectire of the city, with unique and different expositions. Now is in remodelation but still nice.
Ali R — Google review
There is SO much history in the building itself! A former religious convent that was turned into a museum around ‘97. You will need a guide to help you learn about it, since this is not a historic museum. There are several presentations, cinema, design, music concerts and traditional, contemporary and modern art expositions. They are usually great and free. Would definitely recommend!
Sab G — Google review
This place is more of an active, contemporary art museum that is unafraid of showcasing the unique and unusual. Not all of the exhibits are superlative, but there are definitely gems that can be found amongst the hidden back rooms of this old converted monastery. My admission late on a Sunday was free, and the experience was worth much more than that.
Duffy E — Google review
This place is ok, tours at night must be terrifying as it looks gloomy. There's music, theatre and installation performances almost every single day, so you will not get bored. Probably if you want to present something here, you should actually think about all the stuff you should bring with you as the organisation does not always provide what is needed.

Nestled within the historic walls of the former San Agustin monastery, the Museo de Arte Sacro stands as a testament to Mexico's rich Baroque heritage. Established in 1743 by Augustine friars, this museum showcases an impressive collection of colonial-era art, thoughtfully organized by painting style. Visitors can explore both older and contemporary religious artworks that reflect deep devotion and spirituality.
Sizable exhibition space filled with older and contemporary religious art. Entrance is 50 pesos and another 25 pesos if you are bringing professional video recording equipment. I really loved the exhibit showing the backpacking pilgrims as they travel to various sacred sites around Europe. Dedication, discipline and devotion to a higher power. Very well preserved stone built aqueduct near the historic town center of Queretaro. Only down the street from the terrace you will find the church where the Austrian Emperor of Mexico, Maximilian took refuge.

In the middle of a very busy street in the middle of an equally hectic city is this astounding example of a historically significant piece of architecture and engineering. The Aqueduct of Queretaro runs a fair distance and although one could walk, bike, or drive the entire distance, it is not necessary. At the point on Google Maps where this pin is placed is a plaza with benches, some information boards, a few artistic bronze statues, and it is an excellent spot to take some photos of this engineering marvel. The fact that at the time of my visit there was a group of university grads taking photos in their grad gowns tells me this is a popular spot amongst locals for that special photo. I am really glad I came here to check out this gem and am awarding this with 5 stars.
Wong F — Google review
The aqueduct stretches for a good while, over a kilometer, so your experience of it will vary depending on where you see it. To be honest, it's not that impressive. Five minutes after you get there you'll be done taking your pictures and looking for something else to do.

Los Arcos" in Querétaro, Mexico, which is a natural monument and tourist attraction. Los Arcos is a rock formation located in the Sierra Gorda mountain range, about 22 kilometers northeast of the city of Querétaro. Los Arcos consists of seven large rock arches that span a distance of approximately 300 meters. The arches were formed over millions of years by erosion from wind and water, and they are composed of sandstone and shale. The site is considered a sacred place by the indigenous communities of the area, and it has been used for religious ceremonies for centuries. Today, Los Arcos is a popular destination for tourists and hikers who come to explore the natural beauty of the site and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. There are several hiking trails that lead to Los Arcos, and visitors can also enjoy activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, and zip-lining. There is also a small museum at the site that provides information about the history and geology of Los Arcos. Overall, Los Arcos is a unique and fascinating natural wonder that offers visitors a glimpse into the geological and cultural history of the region.

There is also a small chapel built by the Austrian government to commemorate Maximilian's death.

This place was beautiful and well maintained! The tour bus only took us to El Cerro de las Campanas, but this place also has a museum in the back and a scenery plus a huge statue of Benito Juarez. Something we would have missed if we didn't see the huge statue while riding the tour bus! We totally recommend to visit the entire place on your own.

Very lovely park where you can stroll around and learn some history while you’re there. Admission to the park is just a few pesos and there is a separate admission to the museum that you must purchase at the main entrance, not at the museum. There is a chapel on the hill where Emperor Maximilian and two cohorts were executed for treason. At the top of the hill is an impressive statue of President Juarez and of the centro of Queretaro along with some nice views of the city. Not a grand scale National Park like the USA, but a nice visit all the same.

El Cerrito Archaeological Zone is a fascinating site dating back to approximately 300 BCE, featuring a pyramid that was once used as a worship site by the ancient Toltec civilization. The pyramid, reaching up to 30 meters in height, offers an Indiana Jones-like adventure for history enthusiasts. Surrounding the partially excavated pyramid are well-maintained grounds and interpretive trails for visitors to explore.
Loved this! Sadly the museum was closed on the day we visited but the gardens were beautiful and the main temple were amazing. The security personnel on site (there to supervise that no one climbs the ruins) were so helpful and shared wonderful stories about the history of the site!
Michael P — Google review
Another beautiful archaeological site. There is limited on street parking near the entrance however there is a parking lot to the southwest of the pyramid on Calle Camino Al Cerrito. I can’t remember how much the cost was but it was around 40 pesos. There is a little bit of a walk to enter the front entrance, but it’s manageable. You have the option of doing a guided tour. We did not do this during our visit however, there was a group of students that were there and it seemed as the guide was giving them a lot of in-depth information. The museum on site had good information. The walk to where you’re able to see the whole pyramid wasn’t too bad and a small incline, but it was very manageable. The path around the archaeological site takes you to a couple of different sites. All very manageable. I would recommend the experience.
Traveling A — Google review
It’s located a little out of town. We went on a Friday morning and we were the only people there. Only accept pesos to pay for ticket. It’s a somewhat easy walk up to see the pyramid. If you’ve seen any ruins in the past it’s very similar and I would pass on this excursion. If you’ve never seen a pyramid before this would be a nice place to visit. There’s a small museum as well. Not much else to do there.

The Templo de San Antonio de Padua in Santiago de Queretaro is a stunning example of colonial architecture with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Originally built by the Franciscan order, it played a significant role in the Mexican War of Independence. The exterior reflects Spanish Colonial design, while the interior boasts Baroque elements and houses exquisite altar pieces and sculptures.
Welcome to the Temple of San Antonio in Queretaro! This beautiful church has a rich history and many interesting stories to tell. Did you know that the temple was built in the 18th century by the Franciscan order? It was originally a small chapel, but it was later expanded into the stunning church you see today. One of the most fascinating things about the temple is its unique architecture. The facade of the church features a mix of Baroque and Churrigueresque styles, with intricate carvings and sculptures that are truly breathtaking. Another interesting fact about the temple is that it played a key role in the Mexican War of Independence. In 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo, a leader of the independence movement, took refuge in the church with his followers. They used the bell tower as a lookout point to watch for approaching Spanish troops. Finally, one of the most beautiful features of the temple is its stunning stained glass windows. These colorful works of art depict scenes from the life of Saint Anthony, the patron saint of the church. Be sure to take a close look at them when you visit! I hope you enjoyed learning about the Temple of San Antonio. It's truly a gem of Queretaro and a must-see for anyone visiting the city.
