This is a betiful building on the main square. The museum has a permanent Salgado exhibition, this is a spectacular showcase of his work. There are exhibits that explain the history of the area. Many in English as well as Portuguese. A great place to visit to understand the area.

Palácio das Artes is a striking modern performing arts complex located in Belo Horizonte. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, it houses the Fundacao Clovis Salgado and offers a range of artistic experiences. The complex includes three theaters hosting concerts, dance performances, theater, and operas. Additionally, visitors can explore three art galleries showcasing various exhibitions.
The most fascinating place in town, a show in itself. The architecture is awesome, and the location, just on the brink of a lovely public garden, makes it a place to visit even without attending the performance. Great!
Rosalba P — Google review
When I went there, only a small fraction of the palace was open, rest was closed for renovations and performance that night. Turned out to be a compete downer. Giving the benefit of doubt.
Utkarsh L — Google review
Always great shows, and plenty of different venues. The main theater is very comfortable and great for operas. The acoustics are excellent. The central location is also really good, and it's usually possible to park at the avenue in front of it after 8:00 p.m.

A beautiful building that hosts some really nice art exhibits. Being near the municipal park, it is home to a few stray cats in the lower cafe. All are friendly. Sometimes you find a few strange people wondering around, but all in all it is a nice central location to meet with friends.

The park also includes performance spaces and picnic areas amidst natural forests, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers. With its scenic views framed by the Curral mountains and modern skyline, the park provides a perfect setting to admire the city's beauty.
Beautiful park, It's definitely worth a visit and I recommend it.
Beatriz S — Google review
Great park. Paid parking. Free bus inside the park to get around. Nice lookout point to see BH. Decent services: restrooms and free bus. Well maintained. Sort of dislike the uneven atone paths as they're harder to walk on for long times and our toddler nearly fell quite a few times. Still, great spot for a walk. Lovely place to visit.
Ike I — Google review
An amazing and spiritual experience! The view of the entire city is very beautiful! I love every second of it and this would be an excellent place to propose to your partner ❤️
Leandro M — Google review
I guess it's usually a decent sized park area, but right now they have reduced access due to an outbreak of yellow fever at the end of 2017. The area which is still accessible is well kept and there are several sports areas, a skate park and a playground. We even saw some wildlife, which was obviously attracted by a possible opportunity to get fed by the tourists. A star deducted because the guard wouldn't let me use my little drone.
Christian K — Google review
A lovely spot in the town
Wemerson S — Google review
Lack of information, few useful signs. There was a sign pointing to "information" at the gate but could find no information office. No map of the park at the entrance. There is a cobbled road leading up the hill from the main gate. There are maps alongside the road indicating a 5km route but after less than 2km there is a closed gate. There was a member of park staff there, she said it had been closed for 2 years but did not seem to know why. Perhaps they might amend their signage. There is a trail through the trees that leaves from the far side of the entrance behind the furthest stalls. The final part is steeper than the road. It joins the road about halfway up. There is a mirante near the end of the road, it has a great view of the forest and the city below. There is a park bus that runs up to the top of the road from the park entrance. No signage but seemed to go up a down about every half hour or so. Got some coconut water from a stall. It was in a container as they said coconuts were not allowed in the park (!). Tasted weird, threw most away but now have bad stomach. Despite all the gripes (park authorities could easily make it better for visitors) the walk up the hill through the trees was pleasant and the view from the top was great.
Paul D — Google review
From other times I have visited it has gone a bit downhill but I think this was the pandemic and recommend people visit to help bring it back to its former glory.

Mineirão Stadium, situated in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, is a must-see for sports enthusiasts and football aficionados. This colossal stadium was constructed in 1965 and has become one of the country's largest sporting venues. With a seating capacity exceeding 60,000 spectators, it serves as the home ground for renowned football clubs Atletico Mineiro and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube.
Well thought of access ramps make very easy to get in and out of the stadium. Seats are comfortable enough, although you hardly use it as local fans watch the game standing mostly. Big flags also block the view at times, but it is part of the local culture so that was OK. Good sandwiches and beer available inside. Great experience

I went to my first football game here and it was amazing. I didn’t even like football (scoccer) before and now I’m addicted. The energy from the Cruzeiro fans is amazing. Never seen it heard anything like it in my life. I just have one problem. The VIP section isn’t that great. I paid R 750 for premium seats ( Hall Principal 203 VIP) and it didn’t come with food or drinks. One the website it said it would. I was pretty upset at first but honestly the game was so good I forget about it after an hour.

The perfect place if you want to know more about the Belo Horizonte and Minas Gerais history. There's a lot of artifacts and objects that show us everything of the past and the modern times.

The museum focuses on things people used for work. That might sound boring but it is really fascinating. The collection is large and everything is in excellent condition. This is a must-visit if you are in BH.

Excellent free museum in converted classical old railway station. A real window into the past of life in Minas. Eclectic collection of objects from agricultural and industrial processes from small to massive, with even a couple of complete old shops. Nestled in the vibrant city of Belo Horizonte, the Museu Histórico Abílio Barreto is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts. Inaugurated on February 18, 1943, this museum was established to honor historian Abílio Barreto and showcases the rich tapestry of the city's past. Housed within an elegant colonial mansion that once served as a pig farm, it features both permanent and temporary exhibitions that chronicle Belo Horizonte's transformation from a modest mining town to a bustling metropolis.
Nice little local museum that is free to the public. The majority of which is outside resembling a small park with beautiful greenery.

There are three parts to this museum. At the entrance there is a large room with photos and other historical items. Outside is a small museum of transportation. Finally, there is the historical house on site. Be sure to visit all three.

Farmers Markets
Mercado Central de Belo Horizonte is a bustling indoor market that offers a vibrant mix of food, crafts, and souvenir vendors alongside casual bars and restaurants. This modern city boasts a rich architectural heritage, including the Pampulha Modern Ensemble and Obras de Oscar Niemeyer.
The very best experience to understand and discover the local taste and culture. Being a Latino, some halls looked so familiar, I felt in Mexico, some others looked so Colombian or Ecuadorian... and of course, some felt a totally new experience and authentically local, 1000% Brazilian. Diversity as its best! Get lunch from the buffets with a nice portion of feijão and picanha, pared with a Brahma beer chopp. Then, look for a coffee with pão de queijo. And, since it is warm and humid, stop for a caipirinha, 500 ml or 1000 ml
Guillermo H — Google review
Mercado Central in Belo Horizonte is a vibrant and authentic experience you won’t want to miss! 🇧🇷✨ It’s the perfect place to explore the rich culture and flavors of Minas Gerais. From delicious cheeses, sweets, and artisanal cachaça to handmade crafts and souvenirs, every corner is full of charm. The friendly vendors and lively atmosphere make it a joy to wander through. Whether you’re shopping, tasting local treats, or just soaking in the vibe — this market is a true gem in BH!
Arto L — Google review
It's always a great experience to come here. They have numerous shops with food, drinks, and various products, from cheese, crafts, souvenirs, and much more. Try the local dishes, such as the "pão de queijo", "empada", etc.
Joao V — Google review
If you want to taste the soul of Minas Gerais, Mercado Central de Belo Horizonte is mandatory. Since 1929 this indoor market has occupied an entire city block and grown into a cultural hub with over 400 stalls offering food, crafts, produce, cachaça, and more. The tradition of Queijo de Minas, recently recognized by UNESCO as part of Brazil’s intangible cultural heritage, is everywhere. You will find every variation fresh, semi aged, and aged made and sold by local cheesemakers. Walking through the aisles, you see that this is not just commerce. It is a snapshot of Minas’s diversity, where vendors of Portuguese, African, and local heritage sell side by side. You hear local accents, smell roasting coffee, and taste sweets like doce de leite or goiabada. The number of micro bars and snack counters filled with locals eating feijão tropeiro, pão de queijo and having a beer shows how deeply this market is woven into daily life. What separates it from many Latin American markets is its cleanliness and organization. Floors are polished, stalls are tidy and vendors take pride in presentation. At the same time, it does not feel artificial. It still has that energy and authenticity that makes a market alive. Where it falls short is in the live animal section, which feels cramped, and the odd rule that bans bicycle parking even though the city promotes cycling. These are outdated issues that should be fixed. The structure itself has presence, with steel beams, high ceilings and historic character. In the 1960s the market faced closure but local merchants took control and rebuilt it as a covered space in just 15 days, keeping it alive for generations. Mercado Central is not just a food hall. It is a living panorama of Minas Gerais culture, flavor and identity. Whether you come for cheese, coffee, crafts or conversation, you leave feeling connected to Belo Horizonte’s beating heart.
Pedro A — Google review
What an amazing place! Full of randomly stuff, amazing stuff, good food, beautiful souvenirs and nice people

It’s a cool cool spot. There were some artisan hippies in there. I bought a cool little ring from and they have like an awesome gem museum on one side of the park on the other side. They have like an art museum. It’s like the old governors mansion it’s really spectacular a lot of history a lot of beauty overall just a gorgeous park in area.

Beautiful place for a stroll, any time of day. Bonus if you read up on the historical value of the buildings you see surrounding the park itself. Sidenote: there's a very kind man just off the south side of the park, on Avenida Cristovao Colombo, who sells chicletes and other boxed treats from his wheelchair, to passing motorists. He's been selling from this very same corner, from his wheelchair, for over 30 years.

Beautiful park both during the day and at night. Very cool museums and sights around the border. Look out for free entry days into the museums!

Beautiful square in the center of Belo Horizonte inspired on the gardens of the Versailles palace, it is one of the most relevant ones. It has the so called cultural circuit around it, including different museums, knowledge institutions and at least one theater. The CCBB (cultural center of Banco do Brasil) stays nearby and is a must do visit. Also notice the wavy building, it is Oscar Niemeyer’s project. And such a beautiful one. The palm trees lane is so beautiful!

A very beautiful park in the heart of Belo Horizonte with some stunning trees. It is very large with over 180.000m² with many tropical plants. Its history goes back a long way and some of the trees are over 120 years old. It doesn't open on Mondays.

Lovely city park that is kept fairly clean...seems to interesting events every time I visit. Nice park!
Katy K — Google review
Nice park. I have visited this park several times for running from the hotel. The park presents some good uphills and downhills, several lakes and public bathrooms. On Sunday, it is extremely busy but other days it is fine. Furthermore there are tennis courts and basketball court. Unfortunately they could keep it cleaner and tider than it is in reality.

It's always good to find some green in the middle of a big city. The park is quite beautiful, but lacks some upkeeping. Or perhaps, that was the impression after a long holiday of visitors littering around.

Palácio da Liberdade is a neoclassical 19th-century palace in Belo Horizonte, offering guided tours of its lavish interiors and a landscaped garden. The Casa Fiat de Cultura has moved to the Palacio dos Despachos, part of the same architectural complex. This move allowed for the restoration of historical buildings and significant artworks, including Candido Portinari's 'Civilizacao Mineira.'
This was far one of the best museums in the town. It’s amazing. Though it took around 10pm to enter. They need to improvise with a better idea for registration. Apart from this; the building itself is amazing. The architect is next level and worth the visiting. Lot of ancient artifacts inside the building. It’s a must recommend visit in BH for everyone. Including family and children

The architecture is very interesting, the surroundings are very well kept and the view of the lake is very picture worthy. Great green space in Belo Horizonte. A bit under utilized at the moment as most of the offerings were closed and some spaces like the medicinal garden were in poor condition. However, it's great if you are wanting a bit of walk or even run in nature within the city limits. Perhaps even bring a book and read under the trees. Catholic church
Place of worship
Located on the shores of Pampulha Lagoon in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Santuário Arquidiocesano São Francisco de Assis is a modern Catholic chapel designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Consecrated in 1959, this unique building features stylish curved lines and elegant contemporary architecture. Initially controversial for its design, it was not used as a place of worship for many years.
The Santuário Arquidiocesano São Francisco de Assis, also known as the Igrejinha da Pampulha, is a true jewel of Belo Horizonte. Designed by the legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer and adorned with beautiful tile panels by Cândido Portinari, this church is a masterpiece of Brazilian modernist architecture. Nestled by the Pampulha Lagoon, the location offers a peaceful and scenic atmosphere for both prayer and reflection. A pleasent visit for those interested in art, history, and spirituality.
Arto L — Google review
The church is very beautiful located on the lagoon. You can walk or bike (there is bicycle for rent) around and enjoy the atmosphere.
Wanlapa R — Google review
One of the first and nicest takes of Niemeyer on designing a church. Despite its small size it totally feels like a masterpiece of organic, sinuous architecture. The location, at the tip of land in an artificial lake, surrounded by beautiful landscaping and the interior design (with wall paintings and pictures by Portinary) add to the overall effect. An unmissable visit in Belo Horizonte.
Carlos O — Google review
A striking masterpiece of Brazilian modernism. This church, designed by Oscar Niemeyer with gardens by Burle Marx and stunning panels by Cândido Portinari, is more than just a place of worship: it’s an architectural landmark. The curves of the building echo the nearby lake, blending structure and landscape in a way that feels both bold and serene. Inside, the simplicity of the space contrasts beautifully with the powerful murals of St. Francis’s life. The setting along Lagoa da Pampulha offers a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for photos, quiet reflection, or simply admiring the harmony between design and nature. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and must-see in Belo Horizonte, this church is not just for architects or art lovers, but for anyone who appreciates beauty and cultural depth.
Pedro A — Google review
This place is so magical and faithful. You can buy souvenirs
Cassia S — Google review
Overall, I have really mixed feelings about this place. The surrounding landscape and neighborhood feels really nice and could potentially afford a high quality of life. The church itself looks good and its architectural relevance for Brazil has been pointed out by many people. So if I were to evaluated this place just on that basis, it would be a 5/5. That said, as this is part of a UNESCO world heritage ensemble, the standards have to be higher than just being a nice building with some history. It has to have relevance to the world. And if you compare this church to many of the amazing churches in Europe, or many of the other amazing world heritage sites, it is massively underwhelming. As some people are traveling the world to see monuments of great significance, one can only warn them that they should likely not plan a trip to Belo Horizonte (or Brazil) just for this sight. If you are in the area anyways, sure, it’s worth to check out but I would not recommend to go out of your way to visit it. On the plus side, lots of public street parking was available— which is a rare feat for many UNESCO world heritage sites.
Chris F — Google review
Stunning church by Pampulha Lake. Very out of the box design with some of the most beautiful tiles I’ve ever seen. It’s pretty hard to miss if you are ever visiting the Pampulha Lake because the design literally calls your attention. Simply incredible!

Mirante do Mangabeiras, located in Belo Horizonte, is a popular observation point that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. Initially established in 1976, it has evolved into a significant tourist attraction over the years. Accessible by both driving and hiking, this elevated site provides an ideal vantage point for capturing breathtaking sunset vistas and urban landscapes.
Free and open to the public. Very fun and cool ride up to the look-out in the first place. Pay attention to the awesome houses and first glimpses that you get of the skyline before getting up. At the look-out itself you have a wonderful view that all visitors to Belo Horizonte should take the time to see. The city is immense and it’s really cool to see it all laid out before you and the scope of the hills and all. Super cool. There isn’t anything else in the park right now so you can see it all as fast or as slow as you want.

It feels like nature can rest here! And we can, too. If you are looking for a peaceful addition to your date or family outing, look no further!

GREAT SUNSET VIEWS!!! If you want to get the views of entire Belo Metropolis area while enjoying the stunning sunset, this is the place for you. The park is open from Dusk to Dawn. The gated location is easily accessible by Uber followed by a short walk to the viewing area. There is no entry fee for the park! The area is clean, safe and family friendly. However the only thing missing is there are no food stalls. So plan to bring drinking water and snacks to enjoy with the view! There are public restrooms but those are not too clean either. Magestic building thanks to genius Oscar Niemeyer, although the exhibit wasn't that interesting and it is quite small. Hard to get there if you are not driving there. They could do something more interesting with the cafeteria, since it was empty and I was really looking for a soda...

The zoo is committed to conservation, education, and animal welfare through partnerships with research institutions and educational programs.
I'm not sure why it has a very low rating! It is a botanical garden, zoo and acquarius place! You pay for 3 for the price of 1! Just the garden I was impressed with. I went to many gardens, and this is one of my top 10! The trees and flowers were combined so well! I paid only 2$ to enter (9 reais). This is impressive! Yes, it is true that we can not see many animals, but I believe it is because they have more hidden spaces (more privacy) than most open zoo! For me, this is a good thing! I posted mostly the garden pics to show you how worth it this place is. The zoo is a bonus!
Antoine A — Google review
Premises look very unkept, although there was so many staff members as well as security and even army people present. Zoo animals are in very good condition. Botanical is non existing and embarrassing as so many gardeners around and it was dry and terribly neglected. The lion alone is worth a visit he loves to chat. Snakes are amazing in size and great variety of snakes, also well kept. Entrance of Zoo from the road is enough to scare you away! The premises are very big be prepared to walk a lot.

Overall I was pretty disappointed with this zoo. There are some parts that look nice but some parts are clearly not well kept. The botanical garden looks pretty much abandoned. They spend a lot of peak time closed! I've been here three times and they were closed all three times. The Bank of Brazil Culture Center just around the corner has much friendlier hours! The 3 times I've tried here has been after leaving the other museum. From this thing on the door, It's near impossible to know when they're open. I hope they have good art! some day I'll make it when they're open. This place apparently keeps bankers hours and the bankers museum doesn't. That's ironic!

The PUC Minas Natural Sciences Museum in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais is a renowned institution dedicated to preserving Brazil's natural and cultural heritage. The museum features exhibits on animals, dinosaurs, and a butterfly house, making it an educational and entertaining destination for visitors of all ages. Its collections include a variety of Brazilian fauna such as mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians from the cerrado region.
I went to the excursion museum. I found all the fossil replicas amazing and not counting the explanations given. I recommend to anyone who wants to go, to include in the package the students, because it facilitates the understanding.😉
Maria M — Google review
Excellent guided your! Their collection is great and the floors are themed based on different eras.
Marcelo L — Google review
Very cool place to visit if you are in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. It is a good way to travel back in time and also to get to know some of the prehistoric species that used to live in the south American region and Brazil. It's a nice place to bring young kids and people interested in museums. Totally recommend it!
Nigel Z — Google review
I give it 2 stars due to the fact it is 3 stories high. The lack of information in all of their exhibits is uncanny, as if all of us are anthropologists or biologists. Come prepared with your biology books, unless you were looking for a place to take pictures of replicas. Also, bring a flashlight just in case the lights go out as it did in my case, seems that the generators are only for emergency lights only.
Luis M — Google review
Incredible collection of brazilian exotic animals by Peter Lund, a naturalist from Denmark. Replics of elephants, dynosaurs, a lot of butterfly, a real whale and others non brazilian. Great place to visit with family and friends. Nice price per person (local money).

House Kubitschek - JK, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer in 1943, is a modernist gem with period decor and beautiful gardens. It was the former summer residence of Juscelino Kubitschek, the ex-mayor of Belo Horizonte. The house now serves as a museum showcasing the life of this influential Brazilian politician.
Probably the only thing worth visiting BH for.
Kevin S — Google review
The house is not as large as I expected. The furnishings are especially interesting. I grew up in the USA in the 1960s and it reminded me of those times. There could be more information in English for visitors like me who don't speak much Portuguese.

The former home of then mayor J. Kubitschek. It's a great place to visit and admire the building, designed by Oskar Niemeyer, as well as the interior of Kubitschek's house. Entrance is free.

Adore this home. The modernist style is one of the best in my opinion. Simple, minimalist and clever functional home along with the furniture.
Josi L — Google review
Firts of all this is a place for architecture and design lovers, like myself. The garden and the interior are overall well preserved. Eventhough we can not touch any furniture it is totally worth the visit. If I could make a suggestion I would say that would be amazing to have there a coffe shop.
Michelle C — Google review

Casa Kubitschek is a place where one can travel to another era. 1940's modernist architecture and furniture combined with ambient music and the smell of the amazing garden are an invitation to Belo Horizonte's golden years. It is definetely worth a visit. I recommend adding a small coffee shop, it would make the experience even better.

I used to live across the street, near Praca Alaska. I would go to Park JK every once in a while. At the the time there wasn't much to do there except walk around the periphery of the park. I see that now there are more things to do there, especially for children. Unfortunately, I was mugged there. Some hooligan ripped the earphones off my head and grapped my cd player out of my hand, the ran towards the favela. So, all I can say is be careful and avoid the interior of the park. I was mugged just after walking around the soccer field. :)

Carlos Drummond de Andrade Statue is located at Pampulha Airport in the city, which serves regional flights. The statue stands as a tribute to the renowned Brazilian writer and poet, Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Visitors can also find an information sign nearby that provides insights into his life and work. Despite being a beautiful representation of literature, it's unfortunate that the statue often falls victim to vandalism. Nonetheless, it remains an important cultural landmark for those interested in Brazilian literature and poetry.
(Translated by Google) In addition to Drummond, it is important to mention that he is at a meeting with another writer, Paulo Nava. There is an information board next to him. There’s really no reason to call this a cultural center, because there’s nothing really cultural about it except that it hosts theater productions and live music shows. I was unclear if there was any art or cultural experiences besides those here. It’s connected to a country club type of thing I think which makes it all very confusing although the premises are beautiful and well kept.
