Brighton Palace Pier, which opened in 1899, is a historic and thrilling destination offering fairground rides, bars, restaurants, and stunning sea views. Visitors can enjoy street performers and ocean vistas before exploring popular eateries and bars inside the pier. The boardwalk offers opportunities for souvenir shopping while indulging in sweet treats. Families can delight in arcade games, midway attractions, sideshow entertainment, and exhilarating roller coasters.
The Brighton Palace Pier is the heart of Brighton’s seaside fun and one of the most visited attractions in the UK. Opened in 1899, the pier stretches out over 1,700 feet (about half a kilometre) into the sea and welcomes millions of visitors every year. It’s famous for its lively arcades, classic fairground rides, and spectacular views along the coast. Families especially love it here, with safe, family-friendly entertainment ranging from gentle carousels for young children to bigger rides like rollercoasters for thrill-seekers. Food is another big draw at the Palace Pier. You’ll find the best of British seaside classics—fish and chips, doughnuts, candyfloss, and ice cream—as well as bars and cafés for a more relaxed break. At night, the pier is beautifully lit up, creating a magical atmosphere that combines nostalgia with excitement. Clean, well-kept, and packed with entertainment, the Brighton Palace Pier is a must-visit for anyone coming to the beach, whether for family fun, a romantic walk, or simply soaking up the lively seaside vibe.
Nicholas M — Google review
Nice to walk around and enjoy the sea view, but the visit is quite short. The pier is mostly filled with attractions, arcade games, and lots of food stalls (churros, donuts, etc.), so not much else to really do. Still, it’s a beautiful spot and worth seeing for the view over the sea and the coastline.
Malika D — Google review
Brighton Beach is a lively seaside spot full of energy and charm. The pebble shore, colorful promenade, and iconic pier make it a fun place to relax, eat, and explore. It can get crowded in summer, but the atmosphere is always vibrant.
Kshitiz V — Google review
Always worth a visit. Especially with kids. Nothing amazing or groundbreaking but perfect for a couple of hours. Playing the 2pence machines is fun and cheap. The waterslide and some other fares, a 🍦 to round it off, what more do you want!
Max G — Google review
Brighton Pier is such an iconic place to visit. £2 entry to the pier. Lots to see, do, eat and experience. A trip back in time with rides, amusement games, soft serve ice creams, fish and chips, and lovely ocean views. You do need to purchase separate tickets for the rides. Go as an adult and feel like a kid again.
Nicola P — Google review
We visited this lovely, nostalgic pier in July. It was midweek but before the summer holidays and still had plenty of families enjoying the amusements, stalls, shops, food outlets and fairground rides. The pier has plenty of seating and offers exceptional views of the beautiful beaches on both sides. If you wish to partake of the great selection of rides,it works out cheaper to work out which ones you want to ride and buy a card instead of individual tokens. The ice creams were also absolutely delicious 😋
Sarah S — Google review
Such a fun spot to wander around! Seaside fun with arcades, rides, and all the snacks you could want. The views out over the water are beautiful, and there’s a lively, nostalgic atmosphere. Perfect for a stroll, a few cheeky snacks, and soaking up the coastal vibes.
SJ — Google review
Absolutely lovely place to visit. Great vibe, a lot of people during summer season, a lot of things to do for everyone, no matter of the age. Funfairs, bars, restaurants, souvenir shop and other nice places to visit. You can rent a chair for £5 or sub bed for £10 for the whole day, collector is walking around. Also, pls bring flip flops as it’s very hard to walk on stones.

Full of joy and friendly dogs. Tennis courts, a cafe, lots of open green spaces. Too busy for us unless it's raining haha x
Taylor H — Google review
Fantastic place to bring the children nice long walks and just across the road there's a rock garden that the little ones can have an adventure going up and down the rock path. There's a sandy area with swings and slides and a few cafes on site what more do you need for a great day out
Peter L — Google review
I love going to the rock gardens over the road with my son and partner to see the fishes and to go in the little waterfall
Melody G — Google review
Preston Park, although not near the centre of Brighton, is worth a visit for the wide open space, peaceful setting and other surrounding attractions such as Preston Manor and the Rock Gardens. Various facilities including tennis courts and basketball courts, plus a choice of two cafes, the Rotunda (south end, beside the rose garden) or the Chalet Cafe (right in the middle and now open seven days a week). Sometimes also hosts a travelling circus (check online) as well as other events, including Pride On The Park which this year saw a headline performance by Mariah Carey.

Hove Park is a sprawling public park with lush lawns, colorful flower beds, and tall trees, providing a perfect setting for leisurely walks and outdoor activities. The park offers various amenities including playgrounds, sports facilities such as football pitches, tennis and basketball courts, and an outdoor gym. Visitors can also enjoy the miniature steam railway and the Fingermaze sculpture. It's an ideal spot for picnics or feeding ducks at the large pond.
Large park with a variety of things to do. A well maintained playground that is sectioned off from dogs, a wide, rolling path encircles the whole park with plenty of benches and bins along the way. Great for runners but maybe not cyclists as there are a lot of dogs and children running about. It’s very family friendly and there are football and basketball courts, toilets, climbing rocks, a slide, a model railway and large patches of grass for picnics.
Emma R — Google review
The park serves as a pleasant escape for a leisurely stroll after a long day in the city. Surrounding the area are several amenities, including a café, tennis courts, and a miniature railway. While the main section of the park tends to be quite crowded during after-school hours, it remains an enjoyable destination. However, after a few visits, the experience can start to feel somewhat monotonous.
R. R — Google review
Lovely park with nice cafe and wheelchair friendly paths perfect for family gatherings n picnics. Nice play area plus tennis courts a park run each week n other events during the year. A miniature railway runs sometimes too
Debbie G — Google review
This park is huge and I went along the pathways really easily in my wheelchair. It was busy as the kids are on summer holidays here. I liked the planting, open space and the designated areas for various activities. The coffee in the cafe was nice. The cafe had two stepped entrances at the front.
Samantha J — Google review
It's a lovely park to walk around, and it has the added attractions for children with a play area, basketball court, areas to play games of football, and cycling. Also, it has a lovely cafe to stop for refreshments

Once considered a bit worn down in the '90s, its North West section has transformed into stunning bluebell woods thanks to dedicated volunteers—an absolute must-see during springtime!
Love this little park. There's a little playground at the bottom for the kids. Early in the morning there's lots of dogs about which is good for socialising for them. Always have a nice time in the afternoon for a nice chill.

Janroy S — Google review
Drinks were not cold as they had no fridges, all ciders and beers were warm, good job it wasn't extremely hot as it would have been less than ideal especially as the tickets stated you had to be in the park by 7pm....On that basis I would think twice about going to see other bands
Alison J — Google review
Plenty of flat areas to walk and steep hillsides to negotiate. Areas for ball games and a net for football, some wooded area for excitement. Ruined by the homeless campers in the bushes who leave rubbish and human poo for dogs and children to run into, such a shame that you have to avoid these areas.
Susan E — Google review
East Brighton Park, is not just a good area where you can walk, play and relax. It is a vital area for all the Air Ambulances which need to drop off or pick up people from the Royal Sussex County Hospital. You can play football, rugby, tennis or even just play in the play areas provided.

National Trust - Devil's Dyke is a stunning V-shaped valley located about six miles from Brighton, England. It was a popular tourist spot in the early 20th century due to its mysterious formation and remains of historical structures like an Iron Age fort and Victorian railway line. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is part of the South Downs, offering picturesque walking trails with breathtaking views.
Great spot for a wee hike and ramble. Impressive views and very helpful staff at the National Trust cabin. Tried to come here before but it was mist bound. This time there was excellent weather and views.
Matt C — Google review
We visited here in early January and it was beautiful in the snow. The views along the walk were lovely. We went for a walk and stopped to have fun in the snow throwing snowballs. The only downside was there was not a huge amount of parking especially with the pub being there too. However, it was extremely picturesque and definitely worth visiting if you like walking with a wonderful view.
Emma A — Google review
Good view. Enjoyed walking around viewing nature If you're planning to walk down the downs I would recommend wearing climbing shoes. Because I saw a man fall on his back. 8/10 would go again. Beautiful view And a nice walk
Cornal W — Google review
An absolutely beautiful, iconic treasure of Brighton- a must visit for all ages. Walking through the Dyke itself isn't too strenuous and is a really peaceful, grounding experience. I love walking through with my son or on my own- it's great for kids who enjoy nature as insects, wildflowers and birds are abundant. If you aren't able or in the mood to traverse the steep hill, there are large flat walking areas as well which are just as much of a treasure to experience with stunning views. People often fly kites, walk their dogs and just enjoy the space no matter the weather. It's really a special part of Brighton and so easy to get to by hopping on a 77 bus. There is also a pub/hotel which has AMAZING chips which are a must, as well as toilets when needed.

A must-visit for nature and hiking lovers! Devil’s Dyke is one of the best hiking spots I’ve visited. The views are absolutely breathtaking — endless green hills, fresh air, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it perfect for a weekend escape. The hike takes around 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace, and every part of the trail feels rewarding. There are plenty of photo spots, and the panoramic view from the top is just stunning. It’s well-maintained by the National Trust, with good walking paths and clear signboards. Whether you’re hiking solo, with friends, or with family, this place is perfect to refresh your mind and enjoy nature. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the South Downs area! 🌿🥾

Absolutely stunning. Lots of free parking with a gentle walk to reach the pub, playground and information point. The views are amazing, can see for miles on a clear day

Devil’s Duke is a beautiful place. The views are amazing and everything is very green. There’s a clear path to walk on, and it goes through a small forest with great, tall trees. We even saw cows crossing the path, which was a fun surprise. It’s calm, easy to walk, and perfect for taking photos. Bring comfy shoes and enjoy the fresh air

Incredible sweeping vistas, wide and grassy hills: the South Downs at its best! I recommend a mountain bike (or an e-mountain bike) to get the most of the sights without necessarily having to go the whole way on foot. Clearly marked walking and riding routes, enough people around to feel safe but not too many to feel crowded. Great place to feel dwarfed by the terrain.

Stunning part of the South Downs and not as busy as other parts. Had a very relaxing walk. Great for all ages. If you are a dog owner, make sure that your dog is on the leash, as livestock is rooming around.
Sabine E — Google review
I came here with few of my motorbike friends. On a clear sunny day, you will get a very clear and amazing view. The car park is a little bit tight but still there are spaces. There is an ice cream van that sells coffee, tea and of course ice creams. Its an uphill ride so if you are planning to come in your bike(not motor bike), then be prepared for some good uphill riding.

An interesting sign informs visitors that the land was gifted to the National Trust in memory of a lost son. A lovely and overtly privileged gesture that has enabled NT to create a carpark in this remote and picturesque part of the downs. The roads leading up to the site are narrow and steep, but you'll only be driving at 5mph behind a busy cyclist. It's a popular and challenging climb. The South Downs way runs right through this spot, so the carpark is very popular for completing a short stretch. We were very happy to find an ice cream van, so sugar loaded before setting off for a walk. Stunning views as expected, plus an OS triangulation station at the high point. We stuck the NT card in the machine for free parking thank you very much. Only one bench, so take a rug to sit on the grass if you want to enjoy a packed lunch.

Fantastic location for hiking, picnics and views Limited parking but on a clear day you can see for miles . One eyesore blott on the horizon the ugly Amex stadium spoils the view apart from that . Rare orchids wildflowers and birds and great rambling

A very short amble up Ditchling Beacon which is the highest point in East Sussex, England, with an elevation of 248 m (814 ft). It is south of Ditchling and to the north-east of Brighton. It is a large chalk hill with a particularly steep northern face, covered with open grassland and sheep-grazing areas. It is the third-highest point on the South Downs, behind Butser Hill (270 m (890 ft) and Crown Tegleaze (253 m (830 ft).

Nestled in the northeast of Brighton, where the city meets the stunning South Downs, lies Stanmer Park Nature Reserve. This expansive park is not only home to an impressive 18th-century house and a charming 19th-century flintstone village but also boasts a rich history as a designated Local Nature Reserve and a site of Special Historic Interest.
Great area to take a walk in, it’s especially lovely during the spring time 🌼 Good for children as there is a small playground. I love going here to clear my head and see people walk their dogs which always brings a smile to my face 🐶

Beautiful countryside right on the doorstep for Brighton and Hove residents. Perfect for forest bathing. Take a 78 bus to Stanmer House or a 25 to be dropped by the entrance. Parking also available for car drivers. A lovely space, not to be missed. Come and recharge your batteries, highly recommended!

Queen's Park is a 15-acre urban oasis that offers a variety of activities for visitors. Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll, an invigorating bike ride, or a game of tennis, this park has something for everyone. The park features leafy gardens, a central pond, and even a wildlife garden created by a local herbalist. Visitors can also enjoy regular concerts and events held within the park.
Great park, with lots of open space to play, a small cafe on the road around the outside of the park, entrance approaching from west drive, one toilets in the children's park, areas for dogs, a quiet garden, tennis courts, ducks to feed and a large pond.
Jade C — Google review
Fabulous park came to feed the ducks bit unfortunately it was more like feed the seagulls. The pond was covered in green stuff. But does have a brill play park for kids of all ages and a cafe. Plus a little sand pit area
Allie G — Google review
We love Queen's Park, specially in the summer. We are going there often because my son loves to feed birds, watch ducks and swans swimming around the pond as well as massive slide and zip line on the playground. Beautiful place to relax and calm you nervous system 🥰
Monika C — Google review
Queens Park in Brighton has always held a special place in my heart. It was the first park I often visited when I first moved here, and over the years, it has become a backdrop to so many of my memories. From quiet strolls to sunny afternoons on the grass, the park has a warm, welcoming feel that never fails to lift my spirits. It’s more than just a green space… it’s a part of my story in this city
Seenivas C — Google review
This has just been refurbished and if you have little children it's great, nothing for the kids 9 upwards. There's a cafe that sells everything from sandwiches, hotdogs, ice cream, toasties etc. There is usually only one person servicing so be prepared to queue. Watch out for the hoards of seagulls that are waiting to snatch your just purchased food, this has happened to myself several times. The toilets are the absolute worst. Unclean, smelly and rancid. Myself and children refuse to use them. There is a pond which is home to some beautiful and rather tame ducks, geese and swans. The pond itself is relatively clean but has got bits of rubbish here and there. There is also a side park which has a luminous green trickle of water through it that once upon a time you could see the tadpoles and frogs but not anymore. There are lots and lots of squirrels, a few are tame and will come and take the nuts from your hand which is an absolute delight. There is a supposedly separate dog area but when we visited there were a few dogs in the actual park area. By the side of the pond there is a large green playing area and also a few tennis courts by the clock tower. All in all the park equipment is okay for young children, the cafe be prepared to queue and some things are pricey and it is cash only. Avoid the toilets if at all possible. Look out for dogs loose in the children's park. Bring bird seed for the ducks and geese, I and monkey nuts for the squirrel and the swans love lettuce. Just be mindful that the large green area by the lake has had a few groups of people getting merry and can be quite boisterous and sometimes intimidating for children.
Tracy P — Google review
I love going to Queens park, it is a lovely place to go during all months of the year. In autumn, the colorful leaves are specially beautiful to admire. There are many dogs in the park playing, and there are dog-free zones as well. There's a children's park, a lovely pond and lots of green space. My favourite activity is to feed the squirrels and ducks around the park. The squirrels are quite friendly and will fetch peanuts from your hand, or you can throw them in their direction, it's a nice place to go for a refreshing walk. I will say that there are stone paths around the park if you don't want to step in the grass, but the park itself is a bit steep, going up and down, night be an issue if you have special mobility needs.
Marjorie N — Google review
Lovely park with wildlife pond in the middle with lots of waterfowl such as geese moorhens, ducks & swans. Plenty of benches to sit and relax. There’s playground for kids and 6 tennis courts. We found a group doing yoga in the park. There’s wildlife garden too. The Open bakery is such a lovely café! Nice to treat your self before your relaxing short stroll in the park.
Richard Q — Google review
Beautiful park to visit on a sunny day. There are some tennis court nearby and a play area for the kids. Could use some toilets especially on the kids play section. The grass needs to be maintained by the kids play area. There is a lovely pond , some chairs to sit and enjoy the view or read a book 📖.

Historical landmark
Old Steine Gardens is a charming triangular garden featuring a Victorian fountain, war memorials, and a statue of surgeon Sir John Cordy Burrows. Despite its small size and proximity to city traffic, the well-maintained flowers and various monuments make it an attractive spot. Historically, it was part of the village green in Brighthelmstone and later became integrated into the lawns of William IV's Royal Pavilion. Today, it serves as a central point connecting Brighton's major landmarks.
Went to see the Christmas Trees at the Royal Pavilion, I go every year when they are put and dressed. There is a beautiful tree in each room, and they are all different. The year they had Father Christmas which you would have to book to see. Well worth going to see at Christmas.
Laureen W — Google review
I just stopped by Old Steine Gardens in Brighton while passing through. Everything looked alive and well-maintained, which was nice to see. To be honest, I’m a little tired these days, but it was good to take a few minutes by the fountain and just relax. It was working properly, and the spot gave a little peaceful break from the busy city. Sometimes it’s these simple places that make a difference.
Andy K — Google review
At the moment it's a shambles with massive restructuring of roads. Most of the gardens and fountain have been cordoned off to store construction materials. Hopefully it will be restored back to is original look when works have finished

When it’s the Brighton Fringe (around May to June) this place is just magical. So vibrant and full of cool shows and fun. Both day time and night time are good time to visit. Potentially a good place to hang out with friends or bring kids to. Sometimes there are also protests here in other months. There was once a temporary Ferris wheel was installed here.

Nestled in the heart of nature, Withdean Park is a sprawling 38-acre oasis that beckons dog walkers and nature lovers alike. This picturesque park features lush grassy areas, enchanting woodlands, and an impressive collection of over 250 types of lilacs. As you wander along its winding paths, you'll be treated to stunning views of the South Downs, making it a perfect backdrop for leisurely strolls or invigorating runs.
Three 'fields' with a surrounding woodland walk. It contains The Puppy Park in the second section and there is endless joy in watching puppers and dogs cavort about, going rogue, doing zoomies and coming up to you. Foliage, greenery, a rough swing under a huge tree, hidey holes, lilac trees in Spring, some remarkable twisty turny old trees, an abundance of colour in autumn, fantastic views and plenty of benches to sit and watch the dogs and the views. Love it.

I love Withdean Park and I take my dogs there, but if you own a small dog or puppy they can escape!!! As the bottom of the fence has gaps in it. Plus the fence is only about 4.5 ft tall, so dogs could jump that and get out on the road!!!!

I've lived in Brighton for a over a decade and I can't believe I've never been to Withdean Park! Lots of gates makes this a great place for dogs and the views are simply stunning. If you are a flora fan as I am, head there purely to take in the heady aroma of the spectacular Lilacs.

Lovely safe place to let your dog off the lead. On a Saturday morning, the church have a coffee shop in the park, so gives you an option for a coffee and a walk. Also has a kids playground, which our friends say is nice.

One of my favourite parks in the city. It has a certain intimacy with nature as it's secluded from any main highway, and has all the general public facilities one would expect in a public park. A football field (some posts would be nice though), a basketball court, an outdoor calisthenics gym, a spacious and varied children's playground, benches and tables, public toilets and most importantly, a good variety of trees. There's also a horse stable nearby for any horse lovers out there.

As you stroll through its winding paths, keep your eyes peeled for fascinating species like the great spotted woodpecker or tawny owl.
Special place to walk the dogs or just to wander around on your own. Glorious in Springtime great place to listen to the dawn chorus! Bluebells in the woods and home to a wonderful Lilac tree collection. Nearest cafe on Woodbourne Rd also a post office.

Just a short walk from Preston Park Station up a path by the side of the main railway line, then over a bridge and into the woodland. A pretty little oasis in almost central Brighton. The Buzzards love it here too- there were a number of them calling to each other over the valley. Would have given it 5 stars but currently busy with dogs and their owners due to "lockdown"
Chrissie B — Google review
Don’t bother coming or you’ll regret it. The place is tiny, you can constantly see the football pitch next to the “woods”. It’s so small that it shouldn’t even be called “woods”. If you want a nice experience being in the nature, this is not what you’re looking for.

A nice place to visit with children, but sadly in disrepair. Also no bins, not even for dog poo. As a result there are a fair few deposits to keep an eye out for! Shame it's not getting the investment it deserves.

Abandoned. It was nice to roam around the area and hear the birds however the pond was quite delusional as it was abandoned. It’s surrounded by rubbish, looks like people had their picnics and left things behind. The gates to get there are clearly not in use, they are wide open and almost fully covered in weed.
