Points of Interest & Landmarks
Waterfront Park, also known as Joe Riley Waterfront Park, is a popular 12-acre open space in Charleston offering stunning views of the harbor and the Cooper River. The park features a large lawn, walkways, fountains, public gardens, and two piers for fishing or relaxation. It is famous for its iconic Pineapple Fountain and serves as a gathering place for residents and visitors to enjoy the picturesque scenery of Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Waterfront Park (Pineapple waterfront Park) located in Downtown is a beautiful and serene destination that perfectly combines natural beauty with peaceful urban escape. Located along the Charleston harbor, it offers breathtaking views of the water, especially during sunrise and sunset. The park is well-maintained with wide walking paths, tall palm trees, and inviting green lawns that make it ideal for both relaxation and light recreation. The iconic Pineapple Fountain is a favorite spot for visitors and a perfect backdrop for photos. Benches are placed throughout the park, allowing visitors to sit and enjoy the sea breeze and the sound of gently lapping waves. The pier with swinging benches adds a charming touch, and it’s a great place to unwind or have thoughtful conversations with friends or family. Families with kids will appreciate the open space and safe environment, while couples often stroll hand in hand along the waterfront. One of the best features is how welcoming and accessible the park is—it’s clean, pet-friendly, and just a short walk from downtown Charleston’s shops and restaurants. Whether you’re visiting for a short break or spending a whole afternoon, Waterfront Park offers a calm, scenic retreat that leaves you refreshed and inspired. Highly recommended!

Stopped by on recent visit to Charleston. Nice place to sit and relax while walking thru town. Park is very clean and beautiful views of waterway. Pretty cool that you are allowed to actually walk in the fountain’s water. This is not a large area but again, nice to stop and take a break.
Mario C — Google review
What can I say it's a fountain? And it works, it does have a nice view and surroundings. It's hard to get a very outstanding picture. Because there are so many other people standing around, and the only reason why I actually stopped is because my wife was all excited about seeing it. Period if you go, you'll feel safe.Everything's clean, just straight up.Good time, especially with all the trees down the walkways.
Ken B — Google review
Couldn’t take many photos because my phone ran out of battery during the walk, but it’s such a beautiful place to stroll with a dog. Lots of people were running, walking, and biking while enjoying the scenery. I was worried the weather might be cloudy, but thankfully it cleared up, even though it was quite windy. The Pineapple Fountain wasn’t as big as I expected, but it was still worth seeing. I didn’t want to wait in line, so I took a photo from the other side, haha. The tree-shaded areas and piers were beautiful, and the vast wetlands with ocean views were stunning! Since it was Sunday, parking was free.
HJ C — Google review
Waterfront Park is such a fun park to walk through or sit down in for a little bit. It has the most beautiful view of the channel, where, on a lucky day, you can see the families of dolphins surfacing to come up for air. Of course, it also has the Pineapple Fountain, and the other spray fountain (not sure what it's called) that the kids love to play in in the summertime. The only downsides are that if you're driving there, parking can be a little hard to find, and it can be VERY muggy in the summer. Other than that, I love simply sitting in Waterfront Park and taking in all of the beautiful scenery.
John D — Google review
Beautiful and free to roam day or night. Lots of nice displays of monuments, art-sculptures, and beautiful homes. Great walking trail with piers to enjoy the water or fish. Lots of open green space to enjoy and a playground for the kids.
Robert F — Google review
Very beautiful! Great spot to visit! It’s really awesome to sit on a swing and watch the ships go by. If you’re driving a car, there is a parking garage very close by. It’s also not too far from Market Street which is great.
James V — Google review
This is such a great park! The paths are so well kept and the views are incredible. The fountain was clean and refreshing. Perfect place to come for a nice walk

White Point Garden is a picturesque public garden located by the water, featuring paved pathways, military statues, cannons, and picnic areas. It is one of the must-visit attractions in Charleston, South Carolina. The garden offers a serene environment for leisurely strolls and picnics while enjoying views of the waterfront. Visitors can also explore nearby landmarks such as Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, Fort Sumter & Fort Moultrie, and Rainbow Row.
Last while in South Carolina, visiting my son, we went to what he called Battery Park. It was a really nice breeze off the the day I think you call it. I couldn't stay there all day watching the birds nesting in the trees just Out Of Reach. Stop and talk to so many people about the birds and the area and it was just a lovely day
Joan A — Google review
This place was a gem.... Not very much to do here, but if you appreciate Confederate history, you'll have fun here and enjoy the monuments, and if you're a whiny liberal snowflake, I recommend you stay away from here... The Confederate monuments might hurt your sissy feelings.... On a serious note, there is a lot of rich history here and it is amazing to know this city still has an endearment attitude towards the confederacy.... Beautiful!!!!
Paul R — Google review
Beautifully kept garden area with cool, photo worthy structures and sites. Just FYI, there may be homeless in some of these structures. We couldn't go into the main one due to that so we took pics of everything else We loved the history of the area and it's definitely worth checked out. It's right next to the Ashley River which you have a very nice location to view it from up top.

Great historically significant park. Great view of the river. Some road construction during my visit but did not detract from being a great park. Pet owners and joggers are present. Expect seeing photographers and couples being photographed. It's a great backdrop for wedding photos

Lovely historical park at the view bottom of Charleston harbour. Only think which was a bit of a shame was that there was construction work going on at the time.

Historic Sites
Fort Sumter National Monument, located in Charleston Harbor, is a significant historical site that played a pivotal role in the American Civil War. Accessible by boat, visitors can explore the ruins, gun emplacements, and a museum while learning about its place in American history. The fort saw the first shots of the Civil War when Confederate forces attacked it in 1861. Managed by the National Park Service, this nearly 200-year-old fort offers breathtaking views of downtown Charleston and the surrounding harbor.
Greatly enjoyed the ferry ride to and from the island, and of couse exploringthe island itself. It is a bit pricy but one has to take the ferry and historic site maintenance into account. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and had a sense of humor. Lots of cool history to see on the island itself,as well as seabirds and some cargo shipping going by. Some thought provoking exhibits in the visitor center as well. A nice, informative, relaxing excursion all round.
Emily B — Google review
Our national park ranger was amazing. We were there for the taking down of the flag, which was a cool thing to see, especially with a flag the size of the storm flag on the fort. The ferry ride was nice too. Plenty of places to sit in the shade and still see all around.
Brandy B — Google review
Well worth it. The guides were very passionate about history and getting out on the water to see the fort and surrounding islands was super cool! Price was right. We also saw dolphins on our journey. There is no bathroom on the fort so make sure you use it while on the ferry. Also a museum and gift shop.
Kristen G — Google review
We visited this place by ferry and the volunteer was very nice and informative. They explained very well the history of the fort. In the fort you have old Canon and ammunition to see and also some unexploded bombs stuck in the walls (still there) of the fort. Once you are there, you can feel the emotions and spirit of the braves. Highly recommend
S. S — Google review
We took the boat there from Liberty Square. Great inexpensive Parking option at the Aquarium parking garage. If you take the 1st boat you can help raise the flag at Fort Sumter.
Stephanie B — Google review
Being on an island in the harbor, a visit to Ft. Sumter involves two boat trips and a self guided tour of the fort. It's a great place to walk around to see cannons, bulwarks and explanations of the original event.
Rick N — Google review
Fort Sumter was a great experience and would recommend to anyone interested in American History. Remember to book your ferry tickets in advance, I chose the ferry that left from Liberty Square since it had move available time slots. If you take the first ferry of the day you get to experience the flag raising ceremony at the Fort itself which was cool. When on the ferry to the Fort, if the day is nice I would recommend sitting on the upper deck it has the better views of the harbor.
Jon M — Google review
The boat ride over is a great experience. The views on the ride are great. The fort tour guides are the exceptional! The views on the island are amazing. One of the best tours I have had in many years. Worth the money.

Rainbow Row is a collection of 13 vibrant rowhouses in Charleston's Historic District, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. These pastel-painted Georgian-style buildings are a popular tourist attraction, offering a glimpse into the city's rich history. Visitors can join guided tours that explore the LGBTQ+ history of the area, with proceeds supporting the College of Charleston's SC LGBTQ Archive. Alternatively, self-guided tours using an online map are also available.
We took a quick walk downtown to the waterfront park and then walked around to get to Rainbow Row. Not the easiest to see if you just drive by because of the trees, so walking is really a must! There's street parking and some parking garages not too far and it's such a happy little place. We loved seeing it!

Beautiful place!! What a lovely idea to fill everything with colors 🌈 Without a doubt, a place full of history and beauty 💗🫶🏻 Perfect for taking photos, but if you visit on the weekend, like I did, be prepared to wait for places to take them 📸 The heat was also intense! Apart from that, the place is truly enjoyable.
Ximena C — Google review
Beautiful place to visit. The weather was just right (early September), when my family and I went. Charleston,SC is such a charming place to see. I think it's a romantic place. Rainbow row is as beautiful as I've seen in other pictures. The area is a historic landmark. People running as they exercise and walking their doggies. You can smell the ocean water as you walk near the pier near by. Some parking around is free after a certain time in the day. There wasn't large crowds when I visited. The sunset was stunning! I highly recommend to visit.

Marion Square is a vibrant urban green space that spans 6.5 acres, offering a delightful escape in the heart of Charleston. This historic park, once the training grounds for The Citadel military academy, has transformed into a lively hub for community events and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy weekly Saturday Farmers Markets and various festivals like Charleston Fashion Week and the Food + Wine Festival throughout the year.
Today, December 22, 2024, my wife and I decided to take the short, five-minute walk from our hotel over to Marion Square—and we’re so glad we did. This historic park, named after Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion (the “Swamp Fox”), has long been a centerpiece of Charleston, once serving as a parade ground for The Citadel. Nowadays, it’s a lively gathering place known for its seasonal festivities and local events. Because it’s the holiday season, Marion Square was decked out in full winter cheer. We were greeted by a towering Christmas tree sparkling with lights, and a giant “JOY” sign complete with a glowing pineapple in the center—an iconic symbol of Southern hospitality. There was also a captivating Christmas light tunnel that would be stunning to see lit up at night. In another corner of the park stood a beautiful fountain adorned with various iron animal sculptures, each intricately crafted like its own work of art. We loved strolling through the park’s pathways and soaking in the festive atmosphere. We can’t wait to return and experience Marion Square all over again—holiday season or not!
Preston B — Google review
A Saturday Stroll Worth Taking Marion Square is a lovely spot to spend a Saturday, especially if you enjoy walking, browsing, and soaking in local charm. The park itself is spacious and well-kept, with a relaxing atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy the moment. What makes it really special on Saturdays is the market. Local vendors set up with handmade goods, fresh produce, art, and unique crafts. There’s something extra meaningful about knowing the items were made or grown by the people selling them—it adds a personal touch that big stores just can’t replicate. Whether you’re strolling through with a coffee in hand, picking up gifts, or just enjoying the vibe, Marion Square offers a warm and welcoming experience. It’s the kind of place that gives you a real taste of the local community.
Cheryl A — Google review
We really enjoyed walking through Marion Square and found it extremely well maintained. This large park is crisscrossed with gravel paths and covered in grass. There are several displays, a fountain and a monument on the property. A really beautiful and well landscaped area.
Louis E — Google review
Awesome place, great vibes. We went during the Saturday festival. This is where the vendors come out ... I believe it's only on Saturday.. keep that in mind.. plenty of things to do. Food options as well as handmade goods too
Kirk B — Google review
Great spot for fun afternoon in downtown Charleston. Offers plenty of shops arounds to grab bite to eat or shop too after enjoying the park. Plenty of community events hosted often like Cooper River Bridge Run (post-run-festival) with music, food and free items from popular vendors like Harris Teeters. I recommend parking at Visitor Center Parking Garage or Aquarium Garage less than 5 min way.

X path across the middle made out of sand. There are some historical statues and fountains. Close walk to restaurants so you can get food and sit outside to eat. The breeze is great, so it is not too hot in this area.

Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site is the birthplace of the Carolina colony, settled in 1670. It offers tours and interactive exhibits that expertly re-create the life of early settlers, including a fort, palisade wall, crops, and a replica cargo vessel. The animal forest showcases native species encountered by the settlers.
Absolutely gorgeous! We loved it so much we came back two days in a row. My kids loved all of the animals. They were healthy and well taken care of. We were lucky enough to observe them being fed and a veterinarian checking on a recovering vulture. She was wonderful! The scenery was gorgeous. The history is fascinating. There is so much to see and do. We will definitely be coming back again. I have already referred friends to come visit with us next time and this will be one of our must see locations to bring visiting family! There are plenty of restrooms throughout and they are well maintained. They have picnic tables. Parking was convenient. My kids and I loved it!

Great place to visit. Lots of walking but you can bring your bicycle and ride the trail. Very interesting history and def worth reading about. Saw a good range of wildlife in and out of the zoo. The zoo was fun. Normally I do not like zoos but I did like the local wildlife. The turkeys look a bit sickly and old. The ship I was pleasantly surprised on the construction and authenticity of it.

I can't say enough about this low country treasure. It's a beautiful place with great trails, lots of wildlife and natural beauty, and plenty of history and activities. I'd recommend Charles Town Landing State Park to everyone. As far as national parks are concerned, this is one of the best.
Charles P — Google review
Situated along the Ashley River, this historic site walks visitors through a storied past. It's a great place to wander in the quiet, learn about a key role in local history, or just exercise. The visitor area is well-maintained and has a great museum to get started in. The overall grounds are rustic but beautiful, allowing visitors to step back in time. There are many great information boards, and a self-guided audio tour is available. Along the walk are gardens and even a replica ship you can tour. The main path is about a mile and a half around the park, so be prepared to walk. Kids and elders may have difficulty making the trip, especially on warm days. Bikes and dogs are welcome. The small animal forest offers a glimpse at some local inhabitants…if you're lucky enough to catch them out of hiding. Their enclosures are allowed to be very natural and somewhat overgrown. While that's not as attractive to humans I'm certain the animals appreciate it. Overall a great place to visit and well worth the price of admission.
Bradford C — Google review
A beautiful park. 12$ admission for adults. Cool zoo exhibits with red wolves, bear, puma, and other animals. A great willow and camellia garden you can walk in, as well as a colonial exhibit as well. The colonial exhibit also has a boat by the river that kids can climb on and play. Great for kids, great place to stroll and relax. Enjoyed my experience here very much and would come again.
Samuel S — Google review
Highlight of our trip. Beautiful short history walk. $12 per person. Easy parking. Small gift shop. We were able to board the replica ship midway through the trail. Only a few other groups were there on a Monday. I guess you could use one of the bikes in the visitor center? No one mentioned it and we forgot to ask.

This place is amazing and doesn’t get near the publicity it should. If you’re in the area make sure you take a few hours here. Such great information and views of the original settlement. And if you love birds, it has some of everything!

OASIS!! What a great place to stop and chill for a while. We met here to perform a group activity for some training and it was both serene and had some activity. Very pretty sight lines.

Nice park to walk explore stretch fish play breakfast/lunch/dinner… need to relax and walk your dog I highly recommend Brittlebank Park! Super clean and safe place to go. Sunrise sunset clean restrooms safe park for dogs and kids…plenty of room for parking too.

Chill spot for a stroll or a walk on the salt water fisherman friendly dock. Decent playground, a few picnic tables and a couple of small open fields for play, but not a fenced in park. Definitely on-leash dog friendly, poop bags available, so USE them. Port-a-John available. Nice view of the water and bridge. Baseball players are practicing today (Saturday) and they have some loud music playing. minimal amount of traffic passing alongside the park.

Brittlebank Park is a nice little Park. There is a playground for children at the one end. It's a nice place to sit on one of the benches and view the river.

Nice day yesterday for a short playtime break with our grandson. Walked on the pier and saw a dolphin & our grandson played on the playground. Playground equipment was ok, but really needs a good power wash. The ground covering/padding needs updating. Overall, he had an amazing time and that was more important than anything else.

Astronomy in the Park on Wednesdays during the summer, and so many more events. Or just a simple sunset but bring bug spray.
Charlee B — Google review
Overall it's a pleasant little park. Although the only facilities on site was a portable toilet. There's an open field for sports, beautiful low hanging oaks to play under, satisfactory playground (a little run down), fishing pier, and pretty views across the water and marsh. Downside was the trail... It lead us to a "makeshift campsite" and trash dump area. Not the best way to finish our visit.

Favorite place to come and walk the dog - and my dog’s favorite place in the whole world. Really nice park with a beautiful view of the river and plenty of benches to sit on. It’s free to visit and there is parking as well which is a plus. There’s also a nice playground for kids. Do note that there aren’t really lights as the park is technically closed at night.

The Pineapple Fountain, located in the Waterfront Park of Charleston, is a multi-layered fountain shaped like a pineapple and has become an iconic symbol of Southern hospitality. The design pays homage to the historical significance of pineapples in Charleston's architecture and their association with warmth and welcome. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque views of the waterfront while taking photos at this popular spot.
We stopped by the Pineapple Fountain earlier today and it was absolutely worth it. Set right by the harbor in Waterfront Park, it’s not just a beautiful piece of Charleston’s charm, it’s also one of the most peaceful and relaxing spots we’ve visited on this trip. The sound of the water, the breeze off the harbor, and the view of the sailboats drifting by made it feel like time slowed down for a bit. It’s clean, well-kept, and surrounded by walking paths, benches, and shaded areas that make it perfect for families, couples, or anyone needing a quiet moment. We grabbed a few photos with the fountain and they turned out amazing. It’s iconic for a reason. Definitely a must-visit if you're exploring downtown Charleston. Whether you’re sightseeing, resting your feet, or just want to soak up some beauty, the Pineapple Fountain delivers.
Justin T — Google review
The fountain is in a well maintained park right on the water front. It’s a wonderful choice for a nice walk as the path that leads to the fountain is well shaded and you get nice breezes from the water as well.
Ray W — Google review
The Pineapple Fountain is one of the most iconic landmarks in Charleston, South Carolina. Located in Waterfront Park, this beautifully designed water feature takes the shape of a large pineapple — a traditional symbol of hospitality in the South. The fountain is surrounded by lush gardens and provides a peaceful spot for visitors to relax and enjoy scenic views of Charleston Harbor. By day, it’s a popular place for families and tourists to cool off, and by night, the fountain is elegantly lit, adding charm to the historic downtown area. Its unique design and welcoming symbolism make the Pineapple Fountain a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Charleston.

The fountain looks very nice and is a great place to cool your feet on particularly hot days. The surrounding area is also beautifully landscaped.

If you’re planning a Charleston vacation, you may have already heard about the beautiful Pineapple Fountain. It’s a city landmark built in 1990, and it represents the many uses of pineapples throughout Charleston's history. Located in the heart of the peninsula of Charleston. This famous Charleston icon is located along the harbor in a green public space called Waterfront Park. This is a wonderful place to visit and take in the harbor breeze and views. The Pineapple Fountain is very busy during peak season. There will often be kids swimming in the fountain during the summer months. The construction of the Pineapple Fountain began less than a year after Hurricane Hugo devastated the city. It has since become a symbol of the city’s recovery from the disaster, giving locals hope for a new life. Pineapples are common throughout the city, representing its tradition of hospitality. Historically, pineapples were expensive and extremely difficult to acquire, because they could only be grown in South America; this exoticness is what made it a symbol of wealth and hospitality.
Sanjay G — Google review
Beautiful waterfront walking path with a pier and lots of green space. The pineapple fountain is beautiful day or night and relaxing to sit and stare.

Charleston is absolutely beautiful — full of charm, history, and Southern hospitality. The historic downtown area is like stepping back in time, with cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and gorgeous waterfront views. The food scene is incredible too — from fresh seafood to Lowcountry cuisine, it’s a must-visit for food lovers.

Isle of Palms County Park is a beachfront destination that offers a variety of amenities and activities for visitors. It's an ideal spot for those staying in Mount Pleasant or oceanfront rentals who are seeking a stress-free day at the beach. The park features a playground, sand volleyball court, lifeguards during high seasons, public restrooms, picnic area with grills, and rental options for beach chairs and umbrellas.
My absolute “go to” for a 10 hour beach day! Yes, 10 hours. The beach is always clean and spotless. The lifeguards are super vigilant and conscientious of everything that’s going on. They are kind to everyone who comes by and very gracious. Thanks for one of the best days!

we were here for 2.5 days and upon research, we decided to check out this island too. Isle of Palms features a beautiful beach, delicious dining options, a marina, and endless activities on and off the water! it is located on one of the more upscale, family-friendly, and non-commercialized beaches in the Charleston area. With over 600 feet of oceanfront, this county park is a great place to enjoy a day at the beach. The park has picnic tables and grills, so beachgoers can pack a picnic lunch or grab a snack at the concessions stand. The park also boasts boardwalks, sand volleyball, and a children’s playground Fee: No fee but Parking is $15 for a full day. This is a popular park, so visitors need to arrive early in the summer, especially on the weekends, because parking is limited

One way in... one way out‼️ What a perfect storm... pun intended. It began to lightning, so there was a mass exodus from the beach. They leave signs to direct traffic as opposed to a staff member or non-emergency police. I understand the risk with lightning, but at least change the traffic pattern for a traffic circle to send people left. You are charging $25 per vehicle to park! That's what I pay for a garage in downtown Atlanta. The lot hasn't been updated since I used to come here in college in the late 90s. What is the money being used for...why is it no longer $7 exactly⁉️ We sat in one spot for 30 mins...typing review while I wait. Then the rain started. I'll update the review with how long it took to get out. I'll never park here again. Great day at the beach (2nd star), but coming here in general is now in question. I would be triggered from this overpriced, uncoordinated, nonsensical surface parking lot experience. 🫩🙄 Update: It took 1 hour 40 minutes to get out of the parking lot. I turned left and face little to no traffic. I don't even live in the low country anymore and knew that was the move. Traffic country would know to send people that way... 😒

Great spot for a day at the beach. It's $15 for parking during the week and $25 on the weekend. Our airbnb had a pass which was great. There are nice bathrooms, changing stalls, and lots of places to rinse off. My kids liked the playground and I liked the lifeguards 10am -6pm!

From biking and crabbing to camping and picnicking, the park caters to all kinds of adventurers. Visitors can enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, pedal boating, and fishing on the expansive lake or explore miles of biking, skating, and walking trails through lush landscapes.
We absolutely loved spending the week of 4th of July at James Island County Park. We tent camped (it was HOT), but we had fans made it work. The park was very clean and the staff were very friendly. We loved the water park and splash zone. It was a great way to beat the heat. The dog park is huge and they always have different events going on. I only wish we lived closer!

Just came back from Orlando Florida where the water parks were at least 5x the size… however that’s because they have to compete with Disney and universal. We went to a waterpark in Orlando at a hotel and it was larger than this, plus a full bar, however my children seemed to have just as much fun, and that’s what matters. 2 big, main water slides, a couple, smaller more in the splash zone, a lil lazy river and a pool that maxes at 4ft. All in all, it’s good for the price and a fun place to take littlies. I’d consider a season pass, however this is the only water park I’ve encountered in charleston (moved here last January and we normally go to either our apartment pool or the beach). Again, for the price, worth the visit. They also have a regular park to visit outside the water park grounds. It’s $2 per person to go, and the park is decent, nothing crazy, but still worth a trip

This is our favorite campground. We just got home today after a nice 9 nights camping there. The staff are so friendly. The sites are good size. The bicycle/walking trails are great! Wildlife abounds! Raccoons, squirrels, various birds, jumping fish and alligators of all size. Wooden swings located throughout the trails with scenic views. Paddle boats, paddle boards and canoes to rent. Water park in the summer. Dog park where dogs can run free and chase balls in the water. Fishing is available in lake and water ways. Bingo, ice cream night and more. Full hookups and close to lots of stuff in Charleston. Highly recommend!

Walked along the trail that surrounds the park, about 1h, with nice views. Nice 50ft climbing wall too. In December, if you come around 3:30/4:00pm, you can also enjoy the lights while leaving before the 5pm closure and the opening for the light festival.

What an awful place for those that like nature and fishing. Seems like all they really want here are, water park people and the Christmas lights visitors. One pond in particular USED to really produce massive bass. Now it seems like that pond was poisoned to remove all aquatic vegetation. The fish kill that occured here was sickening. Now there doesn't seem to be any fish life in it at all. Places I used to fish 3 to 4 years ago are now littered with no fishing signs. 100% won't be back.

Gorgeous beach. Nice and clean. I didn't park at the $15 lot with the restrooms, playground, and restaurant. I just went down the same street and found a small free public lot between 2 beachfront houses. It had a boardwalk over the dunes to the beach. Definitely consider taking some shade, a cooler, a beach blanket/mat and sunscreen bc once you see and hear the waves crashing, taste the salt air, and get your feet in the ocean you won't want to leave.
H.w. E — Google review
I fished off the Folly Beach pier and had an absolute blast! It's beautiful. For $4 you can't go wrong. They have a nice bar outside just before you enter the pier as well as a nice restaurant just in front of the bar which you can dine inside or out. There's a well stocked tackle shop where you can rent a rod. Impressive please which I will definitely frequent again and again!

We went to Folly beach for a day trip on a Friday. The entrance fee is per car $15 M-F and $25 on the weekends during the summer. We arrived after 11 am and there were only a couple of parking spots left. So make sure to come in early. They have plenty of changing rooms and a rinse off station. The proximity to the beach from the parking is very close. There were lifeguards at the beach which is very nice. If you want less crowded space you would need to walk further away but then you are swimming on your own risk. There were a couple of turtle nests down the beach, they were fenced off and had a sign saying that they should not be disturbed. We also saw a dolphin playing in the waves which made my day!

Comparing folly to Destin beaches it’s not as good, but we had an overall good time at the beach they had concession stands with pretty good milkshakes, and a really good cinnamon pretzel. the beach is clean no trash laying around and have a spray off area and parking was $15 which was a pretty good deal. The view was nice and wasn’t too crowded on the beach. overall it was good and I would go back

New and beautiful. This location feels safe, it is amazingly built and a lot of research put into its location. With the bridge overhead providing shade and an amazing view. Lots of areas to fish that is well maintained. A lovely gift shop and swings, benches, chairs, picnic tables it is super welcoming. Pets are not permitted on the pier and that is kind of nice since you don't have to worry about a mess or someone having a pup that doesn't have manners. Overall this is an amazing pier and park! It also leads up go Ravenel bridge and that walk is breath taking!

We had such a great time at this park with my partner and our nephew! The space is clean, well-kept, and has plenty of room for kids to run and play. Our nephew loved the playground, and there were so many spots for us to relax and enjoy watching him have fun. What made it even better was how family-friendly the atmosphere felt—safe, welcoming, and full of other families enjoying the day. It really gave us the perfect chance to spend quality time together outdoors. This is definitely a park we’ll be coming back to again and again!
Corrie S — Google review
Plenty of free parking right across the visitor center. This park is free and well maintained. We visited on a week day and there were only a handful of other people walking around in the park. It’s very nice and the view of the bridge was beautiful. Be mindful of the noise of the traffic from atop the bridge though. It’s actually quite loud at times. We were able to see the York Town memorial from afar which was pretty cool. Dogs are allowed in most of the park but not on the pier which was disappointing to us. There’s a good sized cafe/gift shop at the entrance to the pier that sells breakfast at a reasonable price.

Lovely place to get 'lost' in South Carolina. They have unpaved trails as well as boardwalks. It was quiet in early February. A good amount of wildlife or at least evidence of it. Bring a good lens and camera to get bird photos. I imagine it's crazy busy during the summer, so time your visit right.

First time going here with 3 kids. They loved the observation tower. They also really liked the storybook walk it was short enough and had signs with little poems on them. Plus seeing all the crabs and lizards running around was really cool. It was super hot so we decided to go to the pool it was so nice for younger kids. The toddler splash pad type pool was super close to the swimming pool I could stand there with my toddler and still clearly see my older kids. The swimming pool didn't go deeper then 3 1/2 feet deep I think. It was really fun and decently priced.

Unassumingly cool park. It's not huge, but definitely large enough to enjoy a nice walk out in nature among the woods and marshes. Wildlife everywhere. Birds nesting deep in the marsh grasses. You can hear them calling out to each other, sometimes even just a few feet away from you, but you can't see them. What you can see are the thousands upon thousands of teeny tiny marsh crabs skittering about everywhere. Very cool, if not slightly unsettling! The observation tower provides a beautiful view, although it seemed a tad wobbly. Might want to look into that! Facilities seemed nice. There were fishing docks, picnic pavilions for rent, etc. We loved their old 70s logo. Almost wanted to buy a shirt!

New American restaurant
Nestled along the picturesque Cooper River, MOMO Riverfront Park is a delightful dining destination in North Charleston that promises an unforgettable lunch experience. With its extensive menu featuring mouthwatering options like the Momo Burger, shrimp and grits, and delectable truffle fries, this eatery caters to all tastes. The charming indoor space complements the spacious outdoor seating area where diners can soak in stunning waterfront views framed by swaying trees.
We have dined here more than a handful of times now, and the food/drink quality has been nothing but exceptional in all those times. The location is ideal! We love to stroll around the old Navy Quarters or the Riverfront Park, then slowly make our way to MOMO. I will say their menu stays pretty consistent (not much seasonal changes). Therefore, I usually know what I'll be ordering before getting here. I recommend making a reservation if you are planning on visiting.

The atmosphere at MOMO Riverfront Park is beautiful, and its location in the park makes it a great spot to relax. I arrived around 4 PM when the restaurant was nearly empty, but was told all the outdoor tables were reserved. Oddly, even when I left at 5 PM, many of those tables were still unoccupied. That was disappointing, as the outdoor seating is a major part of the experience. I hadn’t made a reservation—so I’d definitely recommend doing that in advance if you want to sit outside. The food was average in taste but priced like a luxury hotel, which didn’t feel justified. Service was okay—not particularly warm or attentive. Overall, it's a place worth visiting for the ambiance, but the dining experience could be much better with improved service and more thoughtful table management.

I have been wanting to try this place for years so I was extremely excited when the opportunity presented itself. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the turkey sandwich and everyone else at my table had the steak. I don't think I have had any as good as their Gouda grits. Everyone enjoyed their food. We also ordered several different cocktails and wines - all of which were fantastic. Do not skip out on the dessert either. Three of us ordered one and they were all fantastic. The restaurant was not super busy that evening but our waitress was not the most attentive. We had to get her attention a few times and give her a few reminders. The restaurant was very warm, which I assume was due to the open kitchen. Unfortunately, one of our table members got too warm - mix that with a glass of wine and she had to go outside by the water to cool down. Something to consider when going in the heat of the summer. Overall it was a great experience but I may wait until the cooler months to return.

You can’t be the scenery - even on a blistering day. We had such a relaxed lunch. Service was a tetch slow - but no biggie. Food was great - I think I could’ve been a little more imaginative in my order - but I saw Tina Melt and my stomach said “yes please”. It was tasty!!!

I love the location of this restaurant. It's beautiful. We were able to sit out on the patio with friends who were visiting from out of town. I ordered the grits plate. The shrimp was delicious, the grits were ok. I didn't like the pulled pork and the gravy. I was hoping I'd love this new way of having shrimp and grits but I didn't like it. The dish was very small, I was very surprised for the price. I did enjoy the Palmetto cheese but had to refuse the pork rinds and ordered crackers. The server was great. I will be back but will try something else.

Great atmosphere. The staff is wonderful and accommodating. Food was hit and fresh. I had the chicken sandwhich and the deviled eggs. Fantastic. Also the mixed drinks were great. Also they have a private room upstairs which would be great for private events, rehearsal dinners etc. would def come back again!

This is perhaps one of my favorite restaurants in North Charleston. The scenery, the vibe, the food and the service always exceed my expectations. The top reason I love this restaurant is being able to bring our dog and dine outdoors on the patio year round thanks to the heat lamps, fire pits and the complimentary blankets. On this last visit, it happened to be my birthday lunch with my adult daughter and her puppy. The expresso martini and the indigo butterfly cocktail are my favorites. I always get the wedge salad and a bowl of truffle fries. The fries are incredibly good, don’t miss out on those. We encountered a quick rain shower and the manager was very accommodating to our situation with a quick box up of our meal. We waited out the weather and they graciously brought out a slice of their delicious chocolate cake. We are lucky to have this gem of a restaurant !

So many amazing options on the menu, it was hard to pick one thing. What we did order was amazing! I would recommend trying the creme brulee for dessert. The waitresses and other staff was great. Loved the atmosphere and loved the outdoor seating. It truly felt like such a romantic scene. We came to visit Charleston and ate here both nights.

Isle of Palms Beach, originally known as Hunting Island and then Long Island, has a rich history dating back at least 25,000 years when it was first inhabited by the Seewee Indians. The beach offers a vast expanse of sand with amenities such as outdoor showers, summer lifeguards, and options for beach chair and umbrella rentals.
Very spacious! Although there were a good bit of people around it was still so quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed my walk and time there. The town itself is beautiful!!

Lovely way to spend a day. Clean restrooms, parking ($$ but with in-out privileges, so net positive), changing cabanas, outdoor showers, shaded picnic tables, volleyball court. Some shells for collecting. Water was nice and warm, no dangerous critters to be seen. Watch and listen to the reports, though, nature is always unpredictable.
Acrophile H — Google review
Great clean beach with reasonable parking ($25 for the day). Just be mindful to head out on time before the gate closes! Rinse off stations were clean and well maintained. The beach itself was gorgeous and also very clean. While it was crowded (as expected for a nice summer day), I never felt like anyone was breathing down my neck.

Visiting from Nebraska back in June 2022. Our family had a blast. I can't swim but my husband could & our daughter can. I knew I was safe in my husband's hands/arms. He was country strong. I always wanted to go to a beach & my husband finally got me there. Such a beautiful site. I could have stayed there all day. It's really crowed but The people are very friendly & don't mind when kids trampled them on accident. This beach is family oriented. The best part was jumping when the waves came. It was super fun!! I will always have these memories as long as my memory operates. I lost my husband in July 2022, a month after this amazing vacation & I've been torn every since. Cherish those moments because you never know when those might be your last memory with someone. 😢

A beautiful old oak tree is the centerpiece of Angel Oak Park, which is located on Johns Island just west of Charleston. This park is a great place to visit if you want to get a little bit of shade and enjoy some peace and quiet. The tree is estimated to be over 1,000 years old, and it stands 65 ft tall. It provides 17,000 square feet of shade, making it an awesome spot to relax in the summertime.
It had been 20 years since my last visit. Things have changed, Back in the day on a visit and you would be alone with the tree... now there are tour busses, signs, cones, and roping. A genuine tourist attraction. It is still impressive and worth the visit. I really enjoyed chatting with the artists and even bought a print of a rendering.
Michael B — Google review
What a magnificent tree! Definitely worth the visit. Not a lot of parking so be prepared to walk a ways down the dirt road. Modular restrooms that were clean. Pretty nice gift shop with a variety of souvenirs, including postcards.
Roads P — Google review
Incredible to see such a massive, historic tree in person! We stopped for about 15 minutes on our drive from Hilton Head to Charleston, which was the perfect amount of time to take it all in. There’s a small gift shop and restrooms on-site, along with plenty of parking. Other than the tree itself, there aren’t additional attractions, so don’t plant for a long stay.
Andrew L — Google review
Beautiful tree, must take the trip to see. Free entrance and parking. There is parking along the dirt road where you drive in. The area is protected by a fence. There is a small gift shop, very basic local items. It was a bit disappointing with no information plaques.
Aimee L — Google review
Beautiful tree. Lots of signs, gift shop closes 30 min before they official close. I understand the need for signs but they were everywhere. It was nice you could touch the tree gently.

TRULY Magical Place to visit during your stay in Charleston! Just 25 min outside the downtown area - what a fairytale place! It’s my 3rd visit and I just love the views! Just to think how much has happened in the world while this magnificent tree was slowly growing! MUST visit! Cute gift shop, plenty of parking along the road.
Katya K — Google review
Really cool (and free) place to come hug a giant ancient oak tree. Plenty of parking on the dirt road as well as handicapped parking inside the fence right beside the gift shop. There is also a bathroom trailer and porta potties. Cold drinks, snacks, souvenirs inside the gift shop, as well as live basket weaving while i visited.

HarbourView Inn, located in Charleston, offers chic and airy rooms with Wi-Fi and minifridges, some of which boast water views. The hotel is steps away from Port of Charleston Cruise Terminal and Waterfront Park. Guests can enjoy amenities such as a rooftop terrace, complimentary wireless internet access, concierge services, and a daily complimentary reception. The property provides stunning views over the harbor from its private rooftop and recently completed a refresh with design enhancements.
Our stay at the HarbourView Inn was exceptionally enjoyable. The room was immaculate and surprisingly tranquil, despite its central location within the city. We were fortunate to enjoy a breathtaking view of the water and the fountain. The inn provided delightful treats, including afternoon wine and cheese, evening milk and cookies, and in-room breakfast. The staff was exceptional. They were highly attentive and never intrusive, exuding a genuine warmth and friendliness. The entire establishment fostered a cozy and comfortable ambiance. If you are planning a trip to Charleston, the HarbourView Inn is an indispensable destination. It is a must-visit for travelers seeking an unforgettable experience.

I'm not surprised by all of these five-star reviews. We had a great 3 days staying here and these guys check all the boxes. Beginning with layers of delicious breakfast items being delivered to your room.. they spare no expense. It's also the best bed I've had in years of staying in fancy hotels. Well done to the managers and staff.
Jason W — Google review
My wife and I stayed at the HarbourView Inn for two nights on the end of a family vacation in Hilton Head. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the valet and the front desk staff. I must point out that throughout our stay every staff member we interacted with was friendly, polite and extremely helpful. We were in the historic wing of the hotel with a window overlooking Vendue Range and the Fountain at the entrance of Waterfront Park. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable. The amenities provided to guests were excellent. We took advantage of the Continental Breakfast (delivered to the rooftop terrace) in the morning. The Wine & Cheese event at five o'clock offered an excellent variety of wines and cheese and the cookies later in the evening were very good. We had no issues with noise or security at the hotel. The location is great, the city is very walkable. The HarbourView Inn is a great place to enjoy the history and charm of Charleston.
Robert G — Google review
We had a fantastic trip and stay at HarbourView. The location absolutely cannot be beat. Right on the harbor, central to basically everything we wanted to do while in Charleston, and the service was top notch. The valet staff was outstanding, the front desk staff that checked us in was fantastic, and everyone we encountered just walking around was pleasant and helpful. Their continental breakfast, if you can even call it that, delivered right to your room, is the best I've ever experienced. The only issue we encountered, and the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, was our room was damp. I mean even the carpets felt damp and our clothes were damp to the touch in our luggage or hanging in the wardrobe. We only stayed for 2 nights and it's Charleston in the summer so we just dealt with it, but it's worth mentioning. Even with that we would definitely stay here again.
Allison M — Google review
We absolutely LOVED this hotel!! Perfect location but our favorite part was having breakfast delivered to our room every morning, the afternoon happy hours and the late-night cookies and milk. The staff was incredible as well, they would go out of their way to accommodate us and other guests, but the best part was they engaged in conversation with us! It was a delightful experience and one we won't forget!! We wish more hotels offered the same things as Harbour View!
Misty W — Google review
This was a proposal trip, and when I Informed the front desk, they were more excited than I was! They gave us a free bottle of champagne, and a small cake, along with a note. Such a great group of employees at this place. The doorman would open the door for us every time, and they have free bikes and umbrellas you can use. The breakfast is great, and you can have it delivered to your room. They have free water bottles you can take in the lobby, and the view is great.
Jacob F — Google review
This was our second stay at this hotel. We loved the location and the balcony view of the harbor. The rooms are spacious and very clean We especially looked forward to the charcuterie and wine every evening. We would like to offer some suggestions regarding the staff and expectations of the customers given the cost of this hotel. Both times at check in we were never informed of the amenities. The only indication of these is the card that contains the key cards. There was no professionalism in the greeting of the customers. Our stay over the summer they never offered us the chairs or umbrellas for the beach. When we asked for the them the second day they stated they couldn’t locate their umbrella. Upon checking in we asked if they had coupons for the surrounding restaurants and were told they don’t do that ( Jonathon). An hour later there was a new girl at the desk and we asked her and she pulled out a shoe box containing the coupon cards offering free appetizers at dozens of restaurants. Her name was Melony We ran out qtips in our room and asked for more and they were out unacceptable at a 4 star hotel. The weekend we were there they had a nor’easter on the way. The hotel never offered us ponchos. A hotel of this price point should anticipate these things for their customers. Several times coming back to the hotel for the evening the front desk staff never even acknowledged us to say good night or even acknowledge us. They would be on their phones which is so unprofessional. My husband called the front desk to ask about a spa we could go to for the day since it was raining and they told us to google it. A hotel of this price point should have a list of local businesses on hand I feel the staff is not trained well One evening my husband overheard the front desk person in the back cussing on a personal call. Upon checking out this morning I told the front desk person (Doug) we were checking out and he said I sent you an email. Never said thank you for staying with us or hope you had a great stay. This is the absolute worst hotel experience with front desk staff. However the best trained staff would be the valet’s They were all so courteous and always offered a good morning and good evening and asked if we enjoyed our stay. We wish we could say we will be back and hope to be treated better but upon seeing the Cooper hotel opening shortly we are going to book our next stay with them. We stayed in room 401 the only reason we are giving it one star review is because of Melony and the other front desk girl that were working on Saturday and the valet’s

So glad I choose this hotel for my Charleston trip. Not the cheapest accomodations, but worth every penny if you are looking for a romantic getaway. To me, this hotel is perfectly located in Charleston. It is so close of a walk to anything. You are literally across the street from the Joe Riley Waterfront Park and the Harbour views. The hotel provides bikes for free to ride the city. Car parking under the hotel is $40 something for the day. Other local parking lots are around $29 all day. All of the staff have been extremely nice and helpful.

Captain David did really great in following our pace and explained well at every sight-seeing spot. My daughter said he is very funny and she enjoys listening to him. Will definitely recommend for others and if have chance will join the tour again.

Highly recommend this speed boat tour if you're visiting or are from the area and have people in town, It's a great way to show them Charleston by water. Luckily it wasn't too windy so we got to see all the stops, Fort Sumter, USS York, The Battery and more. Great bday gift for my boyfriend and family in town, we had a blast and I would absolutely do this tour again. Graham is awesome!

We loved it!! It was such a nice way to tour the harbor! If you have no boat experience don’t be too brave but our tour guides Dave was the best!!! I will for sure do this again!

This is the best tour of Charleston hands down.. Make sure you go on a clear day and the waves can be choppy.. It at least an hour tour and you drive the boat.. We saw rainbow row, dolphins, cruise ships, and an old navel ship. The tour guide name was Graham and he was so awesome and laid back.. Again the best money I spent on a tour boat, you drive it yourself. It’s a speed boat and it can seat you to 3 people with max weight of 300-350lbs
Brittney D — Google review
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour!! Although it came with our Tour Pass for Charleston we would've definitely paid for this without that pass. It was so awesome to be on the harbor and to actually be under the bridge! We will never look at the harbor the same knowing we traveled on it. Another great thing about this tour is that we actually got to see dolphins! Graham was a great tour guide and made it seem super easy!

This was the highlight of our trip to Charleston!! So much fun!!! The water was a bit choppy closer to the ocean but Graham gave us great instructions to follow to keep us safe!! This should be a “must do” during your stay in Charleston. It’s the best and most fun way to experience the Holy City!

My husband took us here as an anniversary gift and enjoyed it. First time I have ever driven a boat...and had an amazing time... Despite the rough waters of the day my husband and myself had an amazing time and will be back in the spring or summer for round 2. Graham was amazing, professional and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time...I highly recommend.😊

Nice games and all seats are close enough to the stadium. Big up for the band it changes the whole atmosphere 🙌🏻. Variety of food trucks are there. My only complaint is the seating is not organized. You get a number but everyone is sitting in a way such that you need to look all over and move people around to find a seat when the place is full. Maybe arrive a bit early 🫣

Great game and atmosphere. it was nice to see that the soccer program is very successful for charleston and for the team. The team won tonight some amazing goals. Fireworks after topped it off! Our company met earlier to tailgate, and we all enjoyed all of it.
Sean B — Google review
I attended the game against Pittsburgh last Saturday 07/22. Overall, enjoyed it. Atmosphere is family friendly and they have a good range of food and drink options. The reason for 3 stars is I paid $40 each for a premium reserve section and the main reason I was happy to pay extra (normal price is $14) was for the waiter service. When we sat down and scanned the QR code, we got a message saying ‘service unavailable’. Not sure why, we asked a couple of staff members at the game and they could not give us an answer. The seat was comfortable but not worth the extra money. I emailed the Club a week ago for some feedback but I have not had a response. Would go again but wouldn’t bother paying extra for the premium section

Overpriced and not very exciting. The video board and the audio system are from the 90s. The food options are decent. Rather go to a river dogs or stingrays game any day.

Wragg Square is a charming and often overlooked downtown park in Charleston, open to the public since 1801. Gifted by the Wragg family, it offers a peaceful contrast to the busier Marion Square nearby. The small, fenced park in front of the Second Presbyterian Church provides ample open space for walking and picnicking. Adjacent to it is Wragg Mall, offering a shaded walkway and seating areas.
This square in front of the Second Presbyterian church has been recently updated and improved. There is more landscaping and the gardens have been cleaned up and replanted. They’ve added a row of palm trees on either side of the central path and with the addition of many benches there are plenty of places to rest and enjoy the tranquility.

The 12-acre park offers over 1,000 feet of waterfront views and features a large pier with stunning harbor vistas and a pavilion hosting various events and concerts. This is a nice spot to stop if you are visiting Charleston. There is a pretty cool view from the pier of all of the water. Also Waterfront Park is waking distance to the historic Rainbow Row.
