Nothing special but good to go as part of a walk in the city or around the Bund area. The bridge on google maps looks more significant by the way it’s symbolically mapped out but is in reality not as grand or large. The buildings and bridge light up at night in different colours and you can look out to see the skyscrapers.

In my opinion, this is definitely one of the best spots on The Bund if you want to avoid the crowds but still enjoy a beautiful view. It's a great location to take in the skyline without feeling overwhelmed by the crowds in other parts of The Bund. Also, make sure to check out Yuan Ming Yuan Lu Road—it’s a really charming area and a lovely part of the city to explore.

Poplar must see location in Shanghai amongst the tourists. Public location and therefore it is free to see. Bit busy place with heavy traffic during the evening and night.

It's a great spot for photos at night, but during the day it's a bridge with cars and that's about it. The location and bridge have an interesting history, but there is nothing in the way of architecture or design features to make the bridge interesting to look at; quite the opposite.

A promenade along the Huangpu River with iconic views of Shanghai's skyscrapers and the Pearl Tower. Just steps away from Shanghai's bustling streets, dotted with historic European-style buildings, including the postal museum. There are plenty of vantage points to choose from, and plenty of street photographers are ready to help you snap photos. There aren't many good places to eat here, most of the places are overhyped and overpriced with terrible taste. There is one place to eat that we tried and it is cheap, some of the menu quite good and the taste is better than some of the expensive places there. We're lucky enough because they are open until late at night.

A postcard can't capture the energy here. We came for the iconic skyline but fell in love with the atmosphere. Strolling as the sun set and the city lights ignited was pure magic. The perfect blend of historic grandeur and futuristic wonder. An absolute must do.

Best go in the evening to enjoy the city lights from Shanghai buildings and also The Bund. Lights turn on at 6pm during winter. Also a good place for night photography.

The Huangpu River flows through the heart of city & divides Shanghai in older Puxi & newer Pudong area. River at near The Bund was popular tourist destination in Shanghai. East side was Pudong with modern high-rise skyscrapers along with iconic Pearl tower & 600-meter-high Shanghai tower whereas at north side was huge classical western buildings. River offered medium side cruise, especially during evening views from cruise deck was amazing.

This place is really beautiful at night. Went for the river cruise tour (About 100+ RMB i think). Can see shanghai oriental pearl tower here as well. Chill vibes. Relaxing river cruise. Would recommend for families.

This is an important landmark that is highly recommended if you are in Shanghai. You can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Shanghai from above. The view from the top is even more beautiful, especially at night. The only downside is that you won't be able to see the Pearl Tower. The elevator queue can be quite long, depending on whether you visit on a weekday or a holiday. There are several souvenir shops downstairs.

The Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai 🌆✨ At night, the lights are just magical! 💖 When you look from The Bund, the tower keeps changing colors — it’s so beautiful I can’t even describe it. 😍 During the day, it’s charming in a different way. When I got closer, I was surprised at how big it actually is! I walked around taking pictures from every angle, but didn’t go up to the top this time. 📸💫

This tower is one of the city's great symbols. Its design is very modern and different, really standing out in the Pudong landscape. The walk along the river, whether on the Bund or on its side, is great for observing it. At night, it's all lit up and the city view is beautiful. We didn't see it with any special light show, and it was hard to find official info about it. In any case, the normal lighting is already very nice. Free access to see from the outside.

One of the most remarkable building in shanghai. Ticket can be purchased if you want to go up the observatory. But you can also not purchase a ticket and just go in the lobby. Glass floor observatory is nice and offers more option to see the city and also for your photographs. Lots of stores outside the building and also at the lobby. There's also a large coke store located here. Shanghai history museum can be found here and ticket is included if you purchase the 199 rmb ticket for oriental pearl observatory.

I visited Venus and inquired about the prices, but then I discovered that trip.com offers a better deal for the same tickets. So, make sure to check online before making a commitment. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, especially during sunset, which is the perfect time to explore the tower. You can also visit the top level, although it may be a bit pricey. Personally, I believe the view from the second level is more than sufficient.

The Oriental Pearl Tower offers fantastic panoramic views of Shanghai and a fun glass-floor experience. However, it can get extremely crowded, and the waiting time is quite long — best to visit early or on a weekday. Still, it’s an iconic landmark worth seeing at least once!

One of the popular landmarks in Shanghai and it is highly recommended. Lujiazui financial CBD is well-designed that there is a inter-connected bridge between each surrounding buildings such as IFC, HSBC etc, providing a convenient pathway for people to walk around.

It was a great replica of living and development of Shanghai as a city. Enjoyed it throughly. However pls take down one of the photos posted by Timothy Pang and Jamie Higgd that is not accurate the building as it is not the museum MAYBE UNINTENTIONALLY. The museum is housed at the bottom of the Pearl Tower TV station.

The museum comprises the first floor of the oriental pearl tower and uses a combination of models and projected images to provide glimpses into street scenes and domestic life of Shanghai's past. I found it engaging. Surprisingly it is free with no crowds and one Shanghai resident I spoke to didn't even know it existed.

Entry to this place is via purchase of ticket to the Oriental tower. You absolutely need to buy tickets in advance for this. The place is hard to navigate with multiple entrances and exits. Even finding the ticket office is hard. Nonetheless, I did not enter the museum nor ascend up Oriental tower. The overall experience is a turn off.

Visited in July 2025. It was tricky to find the place. It is placed on the -1 floor of Pearl Tower and not widely advertised. Despite the high season, we didn't have to buy tickets beforehand. Ticket offices are located outside of security perimeter, so don't rush to the tower, buy the tickets first. Then pass the security check, find one of two descents under the tower. You will see no museum labes on your way. The museum shows you the routine life of Shanghai citizens through the ages. I can't call it modern, but it is nice. The exhibit labels are translated into English, but no audioguide

The two buildings of the museum are pieces of art , built in the early 20th century in neoclassical architecture, they were formerly the British-run horse racing club. The high light is the roof top garden where one can see the surroundings from different points of view. There is a very decent but not expensive restaurant too.

The collection reveals unexpected connections—1930s cheongsam dresses contain hidden pockets for revolutionary leaflets. A working model of the Huangpu River demonstrates how tides affected trade routes, with miniature ships that actually float on salted water for buoyancy. The "Sounds of Old Shanghai" exhibit lets you hear reconstructed audio from wax cylinders, complete with the crackle of vintage recordings.

This is not a history museum, there are no artifacts here. It is actually a wax museum depicting the old shanghai and its glory of the old days. A fashionable and forward city even in 1920s. Worth a look if u have the time. This wax museum is not a building by its own. It is INSIDE the DONG FANG MING CHU tower at the basement. Entrance is free as part of the tower tix and tour.

Xupu Bridge, located in Shanghai, is an impressive cable-stayed bridge that spans the Huangpu River, connecting the Xuhui and Pudong districts. Completed in 1997, it stands out for its towering 217-meter height and a main span of 590 meters, making it one of the tallest bridges globally. With eight lanes, it plays a crucial role in easing traffic congestion in the city. While primarily a functional piece of infrastructure, the bridge is an architectural marvel, offering striking views from nearby elevated locations. However, some visitors note that the urban surroundings can detract from the overall scenic appeal. It’s not designed as a tourist destination but remains a notable engineering feat.

Extraordinary museum. The warehouse is the actual location of the battle that took place in oct/nov of 1937. Bulletholes are still visible outside and inside the whole story of the battle is recreated and shown in scenes. The western world (Americans, French, British etc) watched the heroic fight of the vastly outnumbered defending Chinese army from just the other side of the Suzhou Creek. The museum is free for foreigners too, and its highly recommended to watch the movie (The Eight Hundred) beforehand. Respect to the fallen heroes.

One of the best history museums in Shanghai, located inside the actual warehouse where the battle took place, the exhibition is focused on the Battle of Shanghai and the Defense of Sihang Warehouse in 1937 with many interesting historical artifacts on display. Recommended watching "The Eight Hundred (2020)" before visiting this museum, their heroic actions are elegantly recreated and displayed in this museum. Closed on Monday like other museums, free entry with no reservation or passport required, simply scan your bags at the entrance and you're free to explore! The location is very convenient, just two metro stops from People's Square station, plus you can have a scenic walk along the Suzhou Creek after visiting the museum. The only downside is the exhibitions are mostly in Chinese, but since the museum is not that big (~1 hour to explore) and crowded (visited on Tuesday), it's not much of a hassel to translate every exhibition you finds interesting.

Great place of historical significance for the chinese people and the world. This is the place where the nationalist army made their last stand in shanghai during the second sino-japanese war. The bravery of the soldiers are exceptional against an overwhelming force. The exhibit are in chinese and english but some are in chinese only so a foreigner have to use a translator app.

It was an interesting visit, and there are still evidence of the battle, particularly the potmarks from bullets outside the building. Many school groups were here too, and there seemed to be quite a bit of patriotic fervour among the many local visitors. The dioramas were well presented, though explanations and recordings were mostly in Mandarin. It would enhance the experience of tourists if there was some English translations, that's for sure. Entry is free, and the nearest Metro is about 8 minutes' walk across the road at the mall.

The park is a good place to relax and enjoy the nature. It is beautiful there also in the dark. Colorful lights brighten it and lots of people come to do sports in the evening. Furthermore, there is an Exhibition Center hidden in the Mengqing park, which has 3 floors of exhibition and tells the story of the pollution and rehabilitation of the Suzhou Creek, as well as represents architecture along the river. The museum is open only on weekends from 09:15 to 16:15. Free entry! I highly recommend to visit the centre, besides, it's located close to the Mogashan Art District (Mogashan 50). So, you can combine all three activities together (M50, park, exhibition centre).

Yu Garden is a magnificent Ming Dynasty oasis in Shanghai — an absolute essential for first-time visitors!! Inside, the classical Chinese architecture, meticulous rockeries, and the famous Nine-Turn Bridge offer a serene escape from Shanghai's modern pace, a must walk through for blissful life journey. The 'Yu' (Peace) in its name is well-earned. However, the immediate surrounding area, the Yuyuan Bazaar, is where the real commercial energy is. It is packed, but you must stop for local snacks like authentic Xiaolongbao. It’s a wonderful cultural contrast: 400 years of tranquility framed by pure, bustling Old Shanghai commerce.

Absolutely amazing place, worth the visit for all nature and scenic lovers, it's in the heart of Shanghai near the yuyuan bazar and a must for people visiting Shanghai, it's better to be early as it's less rush we went in October mid but the temperature was still a bit warm but manageable, tickets can be bought at the garden itself for 30-40 rmb depending on the season, for kids below 120 cm it's free entry. You can buy some souvenirs in the premises if you want and come out to the bazar and enjoy some great food.

What an incredible place! It is a perfect example of classic Chinese architecture from the Ming Dynasty, serving as an oasis of tranquility amidst the city's hustle. An important note: the classic garden itself (Yu Garden) closes before dusk and has a paid entrance. The surrounding area, the Yuyuan Bazaar, is what becomes incredibly illuminated and, in my opinion, even more beautiful at night. Access to the bazaar is free and the view is magical.

Yu Garden, Shanghai is a 400-year old garden built during the Ming Dynasty as a private garden. The garden has very intricate design structures, with traditional buildings, bridges, ponds and pavilions and the most beautiful Dragan wall. There are many scenic areas and each one is a big photo opportunity. The famous Yuyuan Bazaar is located right next to Yu Garden. The Chinese architecture and design of the Bazaar is very beautiful. There are a lot of shops in the Bazaar selling jewelry, souvenirs, and local food items. Minimum three hours is needed to visit the Yu Garden. It's a must visit place in Shanghai.

This garden is an absolute must-see. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to spend a late afternoon — which is exactly what was recommended to us. Although it can get a bit busy around that time, the soft, golden light gives the whole area a magical atmosphere. I suggest arriving around 2 p.m. and staying until closing. By the time you leave, if it’s after dark, you’ll step out into the surrounding area, which is also beautifully illuminated and well worth exploring.

Yu Garden (豫园 Yùyuán) is nice to visit if you want to feel the beauty and peaceful garden design. If possible, visit on a sunny day with a clear blue sky — the contrast between the elegant curved roofs and the sky makes the view absolutely stunning ☀️🏯 The entrance ticket is 40 RMB, and right next to the garden, you can explore the Yu Bazaar (豫园老街 Yùyuán Lǎojiē) — a lively area full of traditional shops, tea houses, and delicious local snacks. Perfect spot to try Shanghai’s famous soup dumplings (小笼包 xiǎolóngbāo)! 🥢

The Yuyuan garden is a really searched touristic target in Shanghai and because of that, very crowded. It is better to look for specific periods which there is not so much people inside. Other good possibility is to go with one previously organized tour. The garden is amazing, full with Chinese history and very fine and unique pieces. There are different sectors, all of them with different kinds of art and the exterior gardens are part of such art. The entrance costs around four US dollars/Euros. I'd estimate 90 minutes to see it. Absolutely recommended.

As of April 2025, the main exhibition is "The Civilization of Ancient Egyptian" special exhibition, with many permanent exhibitions relocated to the Pudong branch ("Shanghai Museum East Campus" on Google Maps), leaving only three permanent exhibition halls at the People's Square branch. That's why I spent most of time here on Egyptian exhibitions, the artifacts on display are very well curated with tools, sculptures, tablets, four thousand years old bread, and many historical pieces on display, visualizing the ancient civilization on many aspects. Notes that the names of the exhibits are available in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean, but the full description or extended explanation is in Chinese, so make sure your translator app is ready. I spent about an hour at the permanent exhibitions, the displays of Chinese furniture and Chinese minorities' arts and crafts were interesting, but not on the scale that I expected to see here. The permanent exhibition is free, but I couldn't find a way to book the ticket or tell the staff that I just wanted to walk-in. I ended up booking the special exhibition for 148 CNY/person through the "上海博物馆参观预约" WeChat miniapp, just show on your phone that you booked and they will let you in the front entrance, the actual ticket validation is at the entrance of each special exhibition hall using your passport number. Even though I did not expect to see ancient Egyptian artifacts in Shanghai, I believe the special exhibition is worth the price, but this is not the place to learn about Chinese and Shanghai history. If you happen to be in the area, the alternative ones are Shanghai Historical Museum and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, both of which are in the People's Square area (disclaimer: I have yet to visit these two).

上海博物馆 (人民广场馆) The museum is spread over 2 buildings, some distance apart. This is the one at Renmin Square. Free to enter but you need to plan early and snatch tickets online in advance. The slots open at 12.10pm thru their WeChat account 2 wks out (recommend going in at 12nn and keep refreshing the page until it opens). All the slots were snapped up within 20 mins or so. Level 1: A special Egyptian themed exhibit split across 3 halls - The Secrets of Saqqara, The Land of Pharoahs and The Age of Tutankhamun. On till 17 Aug 2025. Wasn't my intent to see this, having been to Saqqara before. But this is what the locals are here for hence the tight ticket situation (cause you first need a general entry into the museum). I paid ¥30 for an audio guide, thinking it was for the normal exhibits, only to realise it's just for the Egyptian showcase. As such, I paid another ¥148 for the ticket to the 3 exhibit halls. The audio guide only covered slightly more than half the exhibits, and with the many tour groups and crowds, it would have been more effective if the earphones are noise-cancelling. Level 3 & 4: Free to enter. A hall on Costumes of the Minority Groups in China, another on Ming Qing Furniture and a special exhibit hall on carvings made out of Rhino horns.

The Shanghai Museum at People's Square has limited displays. During my visit, most of the rooms were closed. However, the building itself is quite impressive. I've heard that there are two or three other branches of the Shanghai Museum nearby that feature more interesting exhibits worth exploring. If you are visiting People's Square, a half-hour visit to the museum is sufficient, and there is generally no waiting time to enter. There's no need to buy tickets; our passports serve as admission.

We were asked to book this special exhibition to enter the museum as the free entries to the museum had already sold out. The reservation needs at least a week or two ahead to secure the free entry. If the museum is sold out, do not rush to buy like us. It was utterly crowded and noisy. You could not view a single exhibit in peace. Visiting here was unforgettable. The view of the city skyline, especially famous skyscrapers like the Oriental TV Tower and Shanghai Tower is beautiful no matter day or night. Shops surround the area making getting a snack very easy. This is a must-visit!

This park is established more than 130 years ago. Its first name was "public garden" before World War II as it was the first free park for the Chinese. I saw the view of the skyscrapers in Shanghai at this place. The Bund (80 feet tall) is in between the Huangpu River. The bund depicting three rifle barrels that are made of concrete was erected as the monument to the public heroes of Shanghai such as the monument of the People's Heroes, the Bund History Memorial Hall and large relief sculptures. There are some coffee shops here too. I visited this place during the day, but I heard that the nights of this park are amazing.

Located near the bund, the museum only opens roughly every other day. I actually enjoyed the exhibition explaining the China postal system throughout the history. There are a couple of stamps that are very nice in the ac room. I loved coming back where I was to send post twenty years ago!

EASILY NAVIGATED STATION ON THE SHANGHAI METRO Nanjing East is a station for lines 2 and 10 on the Shanghai Metro (subway). Its well signed (in Chinese and English) with colour coding for each line. Access to the Metro is via single use or rechargeable cards. Single use can be easily purchased via ticket machines in the concourse. Machines accept coins and cash but NOT non-Chinese credit cards. If you are going to be in town for a few days its well worth buying a rechargeable card.. these cant be purchased from the machine - you need to go to a staffed info desk to obtain. Not all info desks will sell them.. My advice is to buy a single ticket at Nanjing East ( a few Yuan) , travel to People's Place station where you will find a fully staffed ticketing booth and helpful staff! Rechargeable cards can be loaded with varying amounts of Yuan and have the added benefit of being accepted by taxis in Shanghai. The Metro is VERY BUSY during the morning and evening peaks and can be a very stressful experience for first timers (think squashed sardine).

Nanjing Road a really huge shopping districts with all sorts of shops, boutiques, bars, resturants, malls and similar. Mostly very crowded at evenings here. There is a subway connection direct to Nnanjing Road so no matter where you are in Shanghai you have easy access to the Nanjing Road. Alos of Police and overall security in this shopping distric so very little scammers and shaddy people here, peobbably the best place for Tourists.

From this station is convenient to go to bund by walk. Many stores and pubs is also good choice to visit. In the national holiday or weekends pretty crowded...

This is one of the best way to discover Shanghai as you can walk, run or bike along the 30+km trail along the Huangpu river, you can visit both sides but the one in Pudong is clearly the best!!
